Podcast Notes: Newsweek Radio - Episode: Trump and the Standing Army the Founders Feared
Episode Overview In this episode of Newsweek Radio, hosted by Jesse Edwards, the discussion centers around Donald Trump's deployment of militarized federal agents in Minneapolis. The episode draws parallels to the fears expressed by America's Founding Fathers regarding a standing army and examines the implications of unchecked federal power.
Key Themes and Concepts
Militarization of Federal Enforcement
- Context: The episode discusses Trump's use of masked, militarized agents in Minneapolis, invoking the fears of the Founding Fathers about a permanent domestic military force.
- Critique of Federal Actions:
- Federal agents are accused of acting without warrants, violating the Fourth Amendment.
- The agents are likened to "glorified rental cops" and described as intimidating citizens.
Historical Perspectives on Standing Armies
- Founding Fathers' Warnings:
- James Madison: Identified standing armies as a formidable instrument of tyranny.
- John Adams: Warned that standing armies represent a significant threat to liberty in a republic.
- Thomas Jefferson: Advocated for the people’s right to alter or abolish a government that becomes destructive to liberty.
The Current State of Civil Liberties
- Concerns Raised:
- The deployment of federal agents mirrors a domestic occupation rather than legitimate law enforcement.
- Examples of excessive force and mistaken identity during enforcement actions (e.g., arresting Native Americans).
- Quote: "Whatever you allow the government to do to others, they will eventually do to you."
Future Implications
- What Happens Next?:
- Speculation about the consequences of normalizing militarized federal enforcement in peacetime.
- Potential for future administrations (regardless of political affiliation) to misuse authority.
- Call for state and local leadership to resist federal overreach.
Key Takeaways
- Federal Overreach: The episode emphasizes a critical viewpoint on the federal government's increasing power and its implications for civil liberties.
- Civil Rights vs. Enforcement: A discussion on the balance between immigration enforcement and the rights of American citizens.
- Civic Responsibility: A call to action for citizens to remain vigilant about their rights and the actions of their government.
Conclusion Jesse Edwards concludes by expressing concern over the current state of civil rights in America and the implications of accepting militarized federal forces in domestic settings. The episode serves as a warning about the potential erosion of constitutional protections and calls for a return to principles that safeguard liberty.

So we're going to be doing something with Greenland either the nice way or the more difficult way. I don't have to use force. I don't want to use force. I won't use force. So what kind of shiny new object will Trump chase after now that NATO stood up to the imperial asshat? I guess we're all done in Venezuela now? I mean, that already feels like old news somehow. Minneapolis is still upside down now with ICE agents going door to door claiming that they can enter the premises without a warrant.
0:32Why don't you try that in a small town, you stupid hick? Look, I've got no problem with immigration enforcement whatsoever, and suffice to say that the average American would say the same thing. But we just happen to have an idiot man-child in the White House who possesses all the tactical and strategic capability of a 12-pound sparkly purple dildo.
1:13Donald Trump has unleashed the very standing army in a Minneapolis that our forefathers warned us about with his Mad Max pack of masked wackadoodles packing AR-15s like they're in Kabul. These glorified rental cops that couldn't qualify to be real police officers were sent in by the bulbous-headed cave-dwelling sea serpent Stephen Miller just to intimidate cause of a scene and to violate the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens in the meantime in Minneapolis just to prove that he can. This is the standing army, I believe, that our forefathers warned us about. A federal force marching through the streets of Minneapolis with military authority backed by memos that let it kick down doors and enter homes without a judge-signed warrant.
1:59That internal memo leaked by whistleblowers to Congress, explicitly tells agents that they can ram open doors to a residence and haul people out based solely on paperwork, bypassing the Fourth Amendment guard rails that used to protect every American's front porch and bedroom. If they can do that to them, what's to stop them from doing it to us? The carnage on the ground looks less like immigration enforcement and more like domestic occupation. Thousands of federal agents, women getting shot in the face. Federal agents arresting Native Americans because they're mistaking them for Mexicans for crying out loud.
2:32The stupidity knows no bounds. Tear gas and pepper spray being used against protesters. Old men being dragged from their homes in their underwear out in the freezing cold who were legal citizens to begin with. Yes, this is the standing army I believe that our forefathers warned us about. Not a foreign invader, not redcoats on the horizon. Just imagine our own government deploying a permanent armed masked force against civilians in peacetime, acting with unchecked executive power. You know that James Madison called this exact sort of thing the most formidable instrument of tyranny? And John Adams warned that a standing army was one of the greatest threats to liberty a republic could face?
3:10And they were very clear about what to do when that happens. Jefferson wrote that when a government becomes destructive of liberty, the people have the right to alter or even abolish it. What would that look like in an America tomorrow when Trump is finally gone? Once you accept a standing army in peacetime roaming your cities, once you accept door-to-door warrantless raids without judges, and once you accept masked men in military gear sporting short-barreled AR-15s and interpreting your constitutional rights on the fly, you are no longer living in a constitutional republic, my friends. You're living in the exact system that our founding fathers designed this country to prevent.
3:50These are accomplishments. The tragedy isn't that Trump is responsible for all of it. These are the accomplishments of what we've produced. The tragedy is how many Americans are applauding the very mechanisms that will be used against them in the future. Here is the book. It's even a meme that's been bouncing around in my head for the past couple of weeks. whatever you allow the government to do to others, they will eventually do to you. It's not that complicated. So don't be surprised when the next far-left president feels emboldened to go door-to-door looking for illegal weapons with warrantless blanket searches of homes.
4:27Don't be surprised when violent political rioters on the left are pardoned and set free, some of them turning around to run for office. And don't be surprised if you see a far-left president kidnapping a third world dictator at gunpoint in the middle of the night just to exploit their oil reserves. Republican, Democrat, really doesn't matter. And don't be surprised when the next far left-wing president ignores court orders to release millions of documents related to sex trafficking because his or her name is all over said files. Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This is what happens when you lower the bar this low.
4:59This is what happens when you sell your soul to the cult of personality and hitch your wagon to a horse with no legs like Donald Trump. What needs to happen is for the state and local leadership of Minnesota to stand up to Trump and his goons just like Europe just did with this international embarrassment over Greenland. Nobody's stopping Trump from enforcing immigration laws. You just don't get to do it by sending in a hastily assembled army of untrained hotheads who were afraid to show their own goddamn faces. Put immigration officers in regular green service uniforms like they used to. With a basic service pistol and a badge.
5:36Send them out in pairs. Not 30 of you walking down the street like a bunch of goose-stepping Nazis. Even Nazis weren't cowardly enough to cover their faces like you clowns. You can even go door to door if you find it necessary. But you cannot enter without a warrant. And you can't terrorize entire neighborhoods and shoot women in the face as they try to get away. Well, that doesn't seem to be the case realistically, though, does it? Because they're doing it and they're getting away with it. At least for now. Call it a teachable moment, but what this is showing us is that there is virtually nothing the governor or leadership of Minnesota can do to fight back against this invasion of federal law enforcement legally other than to file some lawsuits and refuse to comply.
6:16That's about it. So much for state sovereignty. Federal law enforcement can come to your house, put a gun in your face, your wife's face, your kid's face, hogtie you, throw you into the back of an unmarked van, detain you for weeks as a U.S. citizen, and get away with it. No, we are no longer living in a constitutional republic. And if the powers that be are no longer willing to play along by the rules that we all agreed on, then why exactly the hell are we? A fun little spot to end things on. And until we can do it again, it's Newsweek Radio. I'm Jesse Edwards. Catch you next time. Bye. And we say bye bye.

I would have gone back. What? In today’s episode, I break down Trump’s use of masked, militarized federal agents in Minneapolis and why the men who built this country feared a permanent domestic force more than any foreign enemy. Warrants, raids, executive power, and what happens when a republic stops restraining itself.
