In short
Podcast Notes: Newsweek Radio - Episode: "Trump Answers to Putin, Not Israel"
Episode Overview In this episode, Jesse Edwards discusses the shifting narratives surrounding Donald Trump's foreign influences, specifically arguing that Trump's actions are more aligned with Russian interests rather than Israeli influence. The episode critically examines the motivations behind these perceptions and the financial dynamics at play.
Key Themes and Arguments
- Trump's Foreign Influence
- Carrie Prejean's Statement: A longtime supporter expresses disillusionment with Trump, suggesting he is now influenced by foreign powers, particularly Russia.
- Influence Dynamics: The narrative shifts blame towards Israel, but Edwards argues it is primarily Russian influence guiding Trump’s decisions.
- The Blame Game
- Conservative Base Reaction: Notable conservative figures are distancing themselves from Trump, which Edwards interprets as a misguided belief that Jewish influence controls him, rather than recognizing the complexities of his ties to Russia.
- Misunderstanding of Influence: He emphasizes that the current conspiracy theories oversimplify the situation by attributing control to ideology instead of financial leverage.
- Financial Connections to Russia
- Real Estate and Debt: Trump's questionable financial dealings during the 1990s are highlighted, with an assertion that Russian money has been a significant factor in his business ventures and political resurrection.
- Blurry Lines: The distinction between business partnerships and potentially manipulative relationships is discussed, suggesting a nuanced form of influence.
- Conspiracy Theories and Simplistic Narratives
- Critique of Conspiracy Focus: Edwards criticizes the tendency of some conservatives to blame Jewish control, labeling it intellectually lazy and dangerous.
- Nuance in World Politics: He argues that political dynamics are complex and require a more sophisticated understanding than binary thinking.
- Trump's Statements and Inconsistencies
- Claims of Conversations with Other Presidents: Trump’s assertions about having spoken to former presidents regarding his actions in Iran are questioned, with a lack of corroborating evidence from those involved.
- Media Reactions: Even conservative media outlets challenge Trump’s credibility on these claims, reflecting a shift in how his statements are received.
Key Takeaways
- Complex Influence: The episode presents a compelling argument that Trump's actions align more with Russian interests than with Israeli influence, contradicting prevalent conspiracy theories.
- Financial Leverage: The role of financial dealings in shaping political influence is emphasized, suggesting that personal interests often overshadow ideological loyalty.
- Critical Examination of Conspiracy Theories: Edwards advocates for a more nuanced understanding of political relationships, urging listeners to move beyond simplistic blame narratives.
Conclusion The episode highlights a critical view of Donald Trump’s foreign policy decisions through the lens of financial influence and challenges listeners to reconsider their assumptions about political allegiances. The discourse serves as a reminder of the complexities inherent in international relations and the motivations driving political figures.

Automatic transcript. May contain errors.0:00Irreverent News Talk Opinion Satire. It's Newsweek Radio. I'm Jesse Edwards. I've been a loyal supporter of the president for almost 20 years. This goes back to when I was 21 years old and I was Miss California at the Miss USA pageant. And I've known him. I consider him a dear friend. And I will tell you right now, I do not recognize our president. I think that we are an occupied nation. I think that a foreign country has occupied our government. And we are seeing now that this president of the United States of America is being influenced by a foreign government. and MAGA, let me tell you right now, MAGA is dead.
0:35It is deader than dead and Americans are furious. We do not recognize President Donald J. Trump anymore. And out was Carrie Prejean, or Prejean, longtime Trump supporter for 20 years, just said that. Between folks like her and Marjorie Taylor Greene and many other prominent conservatives jumping ship every day, Trump couldn't care less. How do we fix this country? How do we come back together? I'll tell you something that's going to get me in trouble, but I couldn't care less. No, he couldn't care less because he's got nothing to lose. He's too old to be a serious threat of stealing a third term.
1:05But it is still extremely satisfying for me personally as a never Trump libertarian to hear and watch these people snap out of the bubble in real time. The problem is that a lot of these folks who are jumping ship on MAGA are doing it because they think the Jews are controlling Donald Trump. This president of the United States of America is being influenced by a foreign government. And please, Benjamin Netanyahu knows better than anybody that you can get Trump to do anything if you simply kiss his ass. I'm telling you, these countries are calling us up, kissing my ass. It's Russia that's been manipulating Trump for the past three decades.
1:38Putin says jump and Trump asks how high. I had a very good call with President Putin and he wants to be helpful. I said you could be more helpful by getting the Ukraine-Russia war over with. That would be more helpful. But we had a very good talk, and he wants to be very constructive. Israel didn't need to ask Donald Trump to attack Iran. If anything, they just convinced him that it was his idea to begin with. It's that simple. But unfortunately, half the conservative base now think that Trump is a puppet for Israel when he's been a Russian asset the entire time, allegedly. According to people like me who think that this has all been hiding out in plain sight for decades now.
2:16Decades of shady real estate financing. Indocumented interactions with Russian-linked mobsters. in a pattern that constantly aligns with Moscow. Now, it doesn't prove control, but it does strongly suggest that if the compromise exists, it would most likely stem from financial exposure, not ideology, not even the Epstein files. But if you really want to follow the Russia thread all the way down, it starts in the wreckage of the 90s, when Trump is radioactive to American banks and suddenly money begins flowing through condominiums instead of boardrooms. Units get bought in cash, flipped, resold, names that don't quite connect start circling the same properties like Vulture.
2:51And over time, that line between business partner and handler gets kind of blurry. Nobody just walks in and says that you work for us now. It's a lot slower than that. Debt gets refinanced. Favors get traded. And eventually, the leverage isn't even spoken of because it doesn't have to be. If your big comeback is fueled by money that needed a place to hide, then you don't own the comeback. The money does. And the people behind it don't need to call in favors like it's a movie. They just need to remind you how the entire thing was rebuilt. And at that point, influence doesn't look like orders. It looks more like your own instinct, because one naturally and instinctively protects the relationships that kept them alive.
3:28And you start to move in ways that conveniently happen to benefit the same orbit that rescued you when nobody else would even touch you. That's Donald Trump. In a nutshell, Putin and his KGB are smart enough to orchestrate and nurture this plan from the beginning. But Trump is so blind to it that he likely has some level of plausible deniability, which is a nice way of saying that he's a total moron. Honestly, I'm all for people with learning disabilities, but not for my president. I don't want, I think a president should not have learning disabilities, okay? If you want to take it one step further, the elegance of a setup like that is that it never needs a moment of awareness.
4:05The intelligence play isn't to recruit a knowing agent. It's to cultivate a useful idiot. You don't brief them. You don't trust them. You build the conditions around him so that his instincts and his debt and his ego all point in the same direction you want already. From his perspective, he's acting independently, calling his own shots, thinking he's outsmarting everybody in the room. But from outside, he just looks like a guy repeating Kremlin talking points because they've kept his empire afloat since the 90s. A United States strike on Iran helps Russia by driving up oil prices, which boosts Moscow's primary source of revenue, while simultaneously pulling American attention, resources, and political focus away from Ukraine and the Epstein scandal.
4:44The instability fractures Western unity, making it harder to sustain coordinated pressure on Russia. Russia, Russia, Russia. It doesn't even require coordination, just the right set of consequences. It was all bullshit. And Russia benefits from all of them. So, to the conservative conspiracy wing that makes up a major quotient of the Murica First crowd, I would say that you need to ease up on the Jews quite a bit. Because Israel is the largest United States military base in the world. They don't own us. If anything, we own them. But it's not quite that simple. Nobody owns anybody here, and the conspiracy nutjobs need to learn about nuance because they look at everything in white and black, ones and zeros, and life is more complicated than that, especially when it comes to world politics.
5:29Yes, I'm saying it's intellectually lazy to blame the Jews. And no, I'm not getting paid to say that. But there are a lot of folks out there who would prefer you believe it's the other way around because they need to generate more podcast downloads to justify their existence. I'm talking about Alex Jones, Megan Kelly, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Nick Fuentes, the whole stinking lot of them. These kind of folks are just one step away from claiming that not only is the US owned and controlled by Israel, but that the Jews are secretly lizard people who harvest human souls and eat babies. And look, I wish I was exaggerating here a little bit because I believe that a little embellishment is the spice of conversational rhetoric.
6:02But that is a lot of what the tinfoil hat crowd believes. And they're allowed to vote on top of it, which I just can't wrap my head around. I'm sorry, but I don't believe that flat earthers, for example, should be allowed to participate in our republic. And if you think that the president of Israel is secretly a lizard person, you need to be checked into a hospital, not a voting booth. Oh, and speaking of the insane, after President Trump recently claimed to reporters twice that he had spoken to a former president who praised his actions in Iran. I've spoken to a certain president who I like, actually.
6:37See, I like Bill Clinton, a past president, former president. He said, I wish I did it. I wish I did, but they didn't do it. I'm doing it. Immediately after, aides to all four living presidents, Bill Clinton, George W., Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, have all issued statements to CNN saying there is no record of any communications between them and President Trump. Even Fox News dared to question Trump about this to his face yesterday. Take a listen. Just want to ask you about something very interesting that you said twice today, that you talked to another former president about the Iran strikes.
7:10I did. Was it George W. Bush? No. Was it Bill Clinton? I don't want to say. I don't want to say. Because a member of a party, a member of a party, they have Trump derangement syndrome all, but it's somebody that happens to like me, and I like that person who's a smart person. but that person said, I wish I did it. Okay, but I don't want to get into who. He's such a terrible liar. Nobody called and said that to Donald Trump, but he was obviously trying to hint that it was Bill Clinton. Listen again. Was it George W. Bush? No. Was it Bill Clinton? I don't want to say. It's somebody that happens to like me, and I like that person who's a smart person.
7:58I still like Bill Clinton. What do you like about him? I liked, well, I liked his behavior toward me. I thought he got me, he understood me. I've spoken to a certain president who I like, actually. See, I like Bill Clinton, a past president, former president. He said, I wish I did it. I wish I did, but they didn't do it. I'm doing it. Do you really think that Bill Clinton reached out to Donald Trump and said that about Iran just weeks after Trump's DOJ dragged him and his wife to Capitol Hill to embarrassingly testify about the Epstein files? I mean, come on. Maybe that would suggest that the entire show was designed to clear Bill Clinton's name, not to tarnish it.
8:36But that, that is just a theory. A conspiracy theory, if you will.
8:47That's it for today. And until we can do it again, it's Newsweek Radio. I'm Jesse Edwards. Catch you next time. Bye. And we say bye-bye. Newsweek Radio is a member of the Trust Project. I'll tell you something that's going to get me in trouble, but I couldn't care less.

A longtime Trump loyalist cracks and says what others won’t, and suddenly the blame game shifts to Israel. But that story falls apart fast. This episode follows the money, the history, and the pattern that’s been hiding in plain sight for decades, arguing that if there’s any influence at all, it doesn’t come from ideology or loyalty, it comes from leverage. While the conspiracy crowd chases easy answers, the real explanation is a lot less cinematic and a lot more uncomfortable.
