2:38Welcome to NFL Daily, where we've got Colleen Wolfe back in the building. Hey! I'm Greg Rosenthal. I'm here in the Chris Wessling Podcast Studio with my friend Colleen, fresh off her flight. Pretty much. From Australia. Although you did game day morning fresh off the flight.

2:55Colleen Wolfe:Yeah, I was the Rams in that scenario because I had been back in L.A. for less than 24 hours. Oh. And I was on the air. And I had been in Australia for a week. And that's your game. That's exactly. Sunday morning. Game day morning is my game. So, yeah, my travels. I'm telling you, the jet lag was not bad going to Welsh. Yeah, well, that's the whole thing. I didn't realize that. I'm a mess. I'm a disaster. Well, that, to take a diversion here, we're going to have a fun segment, some fresh predictions after week one, which is like, you know, it's like you think of something all off season, and then you get through week one, and you're ready to rip it all up.

3:37We'll do some news. We'll preview TNF. But I like this little sidebar to the jet lag story since you are our mouse that we test things on, guinea pig. I am in the lab. The reason that the Rams will try to tell you is that you're actually the 49ers in this scenario. You were there for a week and that you came back. And that the whole thing was we can stay on one time zone and we're not going to get messed up on the way back. So you're going to have to really see how it goes in week two. That was sort of the sports science play. It just didn't work out on the field or for you.

4:12Colleen Wolfe:I'll tell you what. I was on the Rams sideline during the game. Oh. And just compared to the rest of the place, which holds 100 ,000 people and the Niners sideline, they were so like, there was no energy whatsoever. Even early when it was close and they were ahead. People kind of forget they had a lead in the second quarter. It did. And then it was the whole sequence, the Pukunakua, when it didn't count, they didn't review it. And the push that didn't work with Stafford. Yes. Then everything changed. No energy. It was like the game was over. It felt that way, that they were just like running out the clock at that point.

4:55Colleen Wolfe:So, yeah, it's real, though. Jet lag. It is. It is always worse coming back from that side of the world and then some. but we are happy to have you. Happy to be back. Now, you know what would have been a great time to get that insight being, I didn't know you were on the field. Yeah, the whole thing. Yeah, because you were doing the NFL in-stadium experience there. It would have been great if we had that insight on our show last Sunday, as you said you were going to send us a little clip. Yeah, about that. Forgot about that. So there's a lot going on. I'm only giving you grief I just I thought it was We're gonna make changes around here I'm gonna get it next time Look we've worked together for more than a decade now We're friends I got you covered for London, Munich Paris and Mexico I'll be in Paris with you Oh perfect So will Jordan Okay Great That's pretty exciting I don't know if we've announced that officially on the show but we're all gonna be there The CUX Tuesday crew That is gonna be great and yes we'll have Jordan sometimes on these Tuesdays as well Like when we do QB Island but we also do some news.

6:03Let's get into it. Let's talk about those Rams quickly to start because we never really hit the fact that Miles Garrett is on injured reserve on this show. That's disappointing for the Rams. You have a month without Garrett and they right now are undecided about Aaron Donald. Sean McVay did a press conference on Monday and he did it from his office. It never looks that comfortable when he's in his office but this man did look like he had not been getting a lot of sleep. and it's just very stressful. They have to wait until Monday night football against the Giants. So they were so early in week one and they'll be the last teams to play in week two.

6:40You were there and you saw the buildup and you saw kind of the letdown. Garrett out for a month. Have your adjustments changed for the Rams after only one week?

6:53Colleen Wolfe:Yeah. And I know that that seems crazy because one week, It's like, I think back to, was it last year or two seasons ago when the Saints won two in a row and everyone was like, oh my God, they're really good. And then everything fell apart. That was Clint Kubiak, I think, when he was at the OC there. But this is significant because they traded away Jared Verse and with Garrett having surgery going on IR and they don't know about Aaron Donald yet. This puts so much more pressure on Byron Young. And you're kind of, there was no pass rush whatsoever. And like, you couldn't even really manufacture one.

7:36Colleen Wolfe:And I don't know if that was just the matchup itself with the Niners because they looked so good and so powerful and explosive, the Niners did. But if this continues like that, I mean, I don't know how they're going to play defense against a lot of these. Their next schedule is brutal. Well, the Giants are a tricky game, but, you know, that's a game where I think they're going to have a chance. I'm not panicking on the defensive side. I've seen enough out of Byron Young and Kobe Turner. They're going to be fine. The 49ers had a good game plan. Maybe it was the scheduled thing. Yeah. And I kind of think Aaron Donald's going to be out there.

8:12The insiders are hinting that it's more likely than not. Come on. Monday Night Football.

8:18Colleen Wolfe:They have road tests against Denver, the Eagles, and the Bills. Okay. So we'll get an answer to that. Fair. But I do always think about this now. I remember Jordan saying on this pod multiple times that the Rams are a team that gets better as the season progresses. So that's true. They've started slowly year after year, but that division seems more open. You mentioned the Eagles on the schedule. Had some news out of Philadelphia on Monday. Landon Dickerson is going to injured reserve. He was like speaking on, I think it was a radio show and they, they asked him about it and he, and he was like, well, I have to assume that's true to the point where he wasn't even sure that he was being placed on injured reserve, or maybe he just didn't know that that was going public.

9:05Either way, he just didn't look right. This backs up a lot of what was talked about in training camp from our friends on the scene. They're like Bo wolf who just said Landon Dickerson didn't look great. So he's going to injured reserve. It just seems like they're just trying to get his body right. Like, where are you at and feeling about the offensive line? Because one thing I wish I had mentioned on our Sunday recap was they struggled, especially on the interior. It did not look like a great offensive line like we're used to seeing for Philadelphia.

9:34Colleen Wolfe:Well, I just I don't love when Nick Sirianni says that they're going to be shorthanded. They could be shorthanded on the interior offensive line for the foreseeable future as they kind of navigate his absence. but I mean, this is going to be matchups against what the Titans, Bears, Rams, and Jags. Not bad. I mean, Rams and Jags certainly present their challenges defensively, but overall it's okay. And they have a, they have a kid. I can call them kids now. They're like 200 years old. Who has a kid? Nick Ciri, 100? No, I mean, they being the Eagles have a kid, Drew Kendall. Oh yeah. Whose dad was a somewhat long time Patriots guard actually back in the day, who's actually, I believe from the area.

10:15and I think he had a good camp and they have this guy, Willie Lampkin. Like, it might not be the worst thing in the world. Their center, Cam Juergens, also didn't look great and maybe that's what he's referring to. Could Cam Juergens get benched? Either way, just something to keep an eye on. Let's go to Cleveland where we talked about the Browns on Sunday night. I've gotten a chance to watch it since then and I just did not see on film what Todd Munkin saw on film.

10:43Colleen Wolfe:It's only been two weeks. he's gotten all the reps. And there were some really good things on film, some things that you can build on. And there were some others that, you know, operationally, we got to get better at. There's concepts that, you know, there's only so many looks you get from week to week, be it red zone concepts, third down concepts. And I did think that when he had time, when he understood the concepts, he didn't play tentative, that he let it rip. And, you know, even the touchdown at the end, sure, that was garbage time, but that was on their one corner. I mean, that was one of starters out there and that was a communication between him and the receiver so there was a lot of things to build on so the the i'm gonna parse some of those words when he has time and when he understood the concept first of all the point of starting deshaun watson in theory is that he understands the concepts better and then you're not gonna have time most of the time or a lot of time.

11:38That's the game. That's how it works. One of the big tests I often say is like, you are an NFL quarterback if you shred the opposition when you have good pass protection. Like they all can do it. Like the decent backup quarterbacks will kill you if they get good pass protection, but you're not going to every week. I don't know. I don't know what he saw.

11:58Colleen Wolfe:I mean, well, I mean, clearly he saw something different than what we saw, but I just, I don't know what there is really great to take away from the Browns offense and the way that Deshaun Watson played. And just looking at their schedule, they have the Bucs coming up. And then with their week three game, that's their home opener. That's against the Panthers. And if next week is anything like this past week was, then week three, the home opener is going to be brutal for them. I don't think they'll start them. I do think that they went into this season thinking, and they said the crowd doesn't matter, that we'll see how he looks in these first two weeks.

12:40This would be tough matchups for Shador, for anyone. And it was against Jacksonville, throws a lot at you, Tampa throws a lot at you. But he said the operation was why they started Deshaun Watson. And the operation was awful. They had delays of game. They had timeouts because they couldn't get the play in on time. They had false starts. He can't throw on the move anymore. He can't improvise. The interception he threw at the beginning of the game was the interception he threw.

13:06Colleen Wolfe:When was the last time we saw him really play well? That was in Houston. That was how many years ago? The Seahawks have a quarterback that's been playing very well when he's healthy. It's Sam Darnold. Just a quick update there. It's not a hip injury. It's a unique, this is quote, a unique soft tissue injury. They're calling it a glute injury. He's got a butt injury. Yeah. He strained his butt. His butt hurt. Whoa. You can say that. Yes. Not wrong. No. It sounds like he's going to miss this week. And that makes Drew Locke against the Cardinals, which is intriguing. As we tape this on Tuesday, we don't know who the quarterback of the Falcons will be.

13:47Although they did schedule a press conference for Cooper Rush. Our friend Steve Weiss.

13:51Colleen Wolfe:Uh-huh. Your ESPN colleague. It's very confusing with Colleen. She's an ESPN employee. I play both sides. You play for both teams. I do. NFL media employee. Literally. Right? Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Multiple income streams. I'm trying. Must be nice. We're cobbling it together. Yeah, they don't know who it's going to be. Our guy, Steve Weiss, said just because they're, you know, announcing that Cooper Rush is the guy, that doesn't necessarily mean that they've made the decision. I think they would really love to have Michael Penix out there. What's the rush, huh? Well, he's coming off a torn ACL. It's mental.

14:26I think it's one of those things where it's his call, Michael Penix's call. And you have to trust the player on that. but they're probably behind scenes being like, Hey, it's just football. Right. What's the worst that could happen? A lot. A couple other injury nuggets before we get to our segment, the freshest predictions after week one, Minka Fitzpatrick is reportedly out two to three weeks. He left that jets game. That's disappointing for them. And then Omar Cooper, their rookie wide receiver is also week to week. So both of those guys are going to be out for the jets this week as they try to go to an out.

15:00I'm intrigued by that jets Packers game. I love week two. We're going to get into the preview show.

15:04Colleen Wolfe:You love every week, Greg. Week two has a special something, though, too, where it just feels for some of these 0-1 teams. It's like, we better not lose this freaking game. Like if the Packers lost to the Jets, for instance. Doesn't that feel like, oh, my God. Yeah. Like Matt LaFleur is going to be like enemy number one in Greenwich. And he won't be happy about it. I can already feel the press conference heat. Sneaky grumpy. Yeah. Mike LaFleur, off to a better start. Henry Toto is a linebacker of the Houston Texans. Part of that defense who's coming off a really poor performance. He's going to be out for a little while.

15:39The Cowboys lost Malik Hooker, who's a starting safety for about six weeks. And then the Falcons have a defensive tackle, Deshaun Hand, out for the season with a quad injury. So more bad news there. Not a ton of big news on this Tuesday or Monday, which is great, which means compared to some years, it's relatively healthy out there. Yeah, you're right.

16:00Colleen Wolfe:Tuesdays have been big news days We are going to be doing that Sometimes on the show A lot of Jets firings I feel like we've had It's always the Jets It's always the Jets Aaron Glenn's looking good right now I think we're going to avoid it this year The prediction segment we are going to do Was inspired in part by the game you watched in person Oh, okay And I don't know if we're going to get to To one of these teams in the segment or not Actually I do I have one of the teams in the segment but you know one of them you know the 49ers made me feel different after that week and I just thought like you do all these rankings and you do all these predictions all off season long and then you kind of have to stick with them and that's fair you should stick with them but if you were doing let's say fantasy football rankings this week for the whole season I would personally change them dramatically over what they were even a week ago because you have proof what you saw in week one is more important And then all the things that were just like bouncing in your head.

17:01Colleen Wolfe:Yeah. Finally, there's a little bit of a proof of concept. Right. Like Bucky Irving, for instance. I was pretty down on Bucky Irving. This is just a random aside. Okay. I got to see that running game in the first week. It's a totally different scheme. I questioned the coordinator. Bucky Irving was never healthy last year. I didn't know how it was all going to fit. Bucky Irving looked fantastic in week one. Now I'm just like, oh yeah, he's going to be worth what you took him in fantasy. It's maybe even better. That's kind of the fun part about week one, though, because there's so many things that are going the exact opposite way that you thought.

17:30Colleen Wolfe:And then other things where you're like, yes, I hit on that. Look, they're delivering. And you don't want to overreact. But like Ashton Gentry, you look great week one too. You don't want to overreact. And that's kind of like the cutesy. It's become cliche. It's like, oh, overreaction. Like it's a segment everywhere. Don't overreact. Like, hey, we're going to overreact. That's an ESPN.com like article overreactions from week one. And to this, I say we are not overreacting. we are reacting appropriately with these fresh predictions for week one yes okay here's how we're gonna structure it we're gonna have some mild takes some medium takes and some spicy takes I saw Danny Parkins do this on Fox he's on Nick Wright Show and I was like I like that and I'm just gonna I'm gonna use that mild medium spicy okay I like that so didn't you guys used to do the Scoville scale there's all you know at a certain point you realize every segment has already been done in some form or fashion But just a way for us to get some new, fresh predictions.

18:27And we didn't really get many from you. So let's get a mild one from Colleen to start.

18:31Colleen Wolfe:Okay. So, yeah, this is mild because I worked my way backwards when I was putting this together. I started with spicy, then went mild. And I think because what we saw from the Lions was not at least what I expected. I went from overreacting at first to like, oh, my God, this is not good. their offense is like stuck. It's like a shell of itself. The defense, how, how are you giving up all of these unanswered points and then almost losing to the saints. But then I, then I sat back down and I reeled it back in and I said, okay, you know what? The lions, they're going to be fine. They're going to finish with double digit wins.

19:11Colleen Wolfe:Now this on its face doesn't seem like it's a bold take. No, that's why it's mild, right? It's very mild. I mean, like, yes, the secondary was very exposed in this game. Tyler Shuck threw all over the place. No problem. There's a lot of cornerback concerns, I think, because I mean, Chris Alave was able to get big play after big play. And I didn't love the offensive inconsistencies that we saw from Detroit. Jameer Gibbs. Yes, he had an incredible game, but you can't just rely on him to be the main bell cow and cover up for any other deficiencies because then he's going to hit a wall by the time their schedule really takes form.

19:55Colleen Wolfe:Their second half is brutal. I think he's on pace for roughly 570 touches. That's not an exaggeration. No, that's true. Well, and we'll get to Thursday Night Football, but that's where they are playing against the Bills to open their new stadium. So I think the fact that the Lions have the cure for their own disease right now, because they have like a really good defensive front and everything can break down in the secondary. But when it really matters in the game, those players in the trenches can hold. And even though it took until overtime against the Saints, they still were able to get the win.

20:34Now, I'm trying to get inside of Colleen's mind here. And we will preview this show. I mean, this game a little later, the Lions and the Bills. But this is a mild prediction that they're winning double-digit games. And you got there because you had concerns about them. But then the nicer Colleen in your brain said, calm down, go over there, not a big deal.

20:56Colleen Wolfe:It's going to be fine. This is fixable. This offense has stars on it. They can't be stuck in the mud forever. They scored 31 points, to be fair. And somewhere on short fields and all this stuff. Right. I mean, I just, that's not what I expect out of them to, like for the defense to give up that many points and to make this game so close to force it to overtime. I mean, they absolutely could have lost this opener. They probably should have when you really look back at it. And I know they had a 21-0 lead. But yeah, they had, it's one of those that it doesn't matter in the end. And like, no one remembers how these games, you're going to be a totally different team in November than you were now.

21:36And it is so important. I know there were a lot of Saints fans that watched that game. It was like, they were kind of happy that they came back. And Shuck showed a lot. And I'm like, man, you're going to need that win. Like somewhere down the road. That hurts. Especially when you're going to Baltimore this week, if you're a Saints fan or you're playing against Baltimore. All right, I'm going to go to my mild take here. Okay. And it's about Dalton Kincaid specifically. Oh. Now, may this be influenced somewhat by our producer, Eric, being a Bills fan and me having to get on his good side because.

22:09What did you do? Well, just I'm just a general, you know, can you imagine living with me? That's he's being forced to live with me. We are tighter than ever. It's Eric and I just working all the time on this show. So when I have something positive to say about his team, I'm going to do it.

Read the full transcript

22:25Colleen Wolfe:That's nice. This is a strong marriage you guys have. Thank you. Thank you. It's built on respect. Dalton Kincaid is awesome. He's going to go over a thousand receiving yards. Okay. That's pretty mild. I think, especially after, you know, his big week one, one 50, I'll go even a step further, make it a, you know, mild, but with like some real flavor to it, which is, he's going to finish top three in tight ends, uh, this year. And so maybe that's all pro voting. Maybe that's total receiving yards, whatever it is, the highlight package that you can put together for Kincaid from week one. And yeah, if you're watching on YouTube, give us a like and a subscribe because we have this footage.

23:05He went ahead and he mossed Derek Stingley. Of all people, he goes over the top on a freaking all pro, Derek Stingley. Big moment in the game. They got to go down the field to go win the game. Kamari Lasseter, one of the best cornerbacks in the league, says, oh, you got a tight end on me? Like I'm a physical cornerback. I can cover him. I'm going to undercut this route. I'm not fast enough to keep up with Dalton Kincaid. Dalton Kincaid gets to the outside faster than him. And then he runs after the catch. I have never seen Kincaid move like this. He has always been an excellent mover, but he has not looked 100 % in a couple seasons.

23:39Colleen Wolfe:Yeah, he had that knee injury last year. He did. And even the year before when he came back from it. And sometimes as you get older, like I don't know if it's a workout routine, but he looked incredible in this game. All signs point to monster Kincaid. I love that. He's clearly fully recovered from his injury, from the knee injury last year. I mean, he's a central weapon for Josh Allen. And when you have him in such a high-powered offense, the fact that they finally started to integrate DJ Moore into the offensive game plan. So I just think that when that really gets going, then that's only going to open things up too again for Kincaid.

24:21Colleen Wolfe:So yeah, he's huge. This is awesome. Congratulations to anyone who has him on their fantasy. Right. I was going to say, like, don't sell. He's going to keep it going. And for him to get top three, by the way, you know, that means, you know, there's Bowers. There's McBride. He's got to he's got to edge out a pretty big name. Maybe it's a Colston Loveland who, unfortunately, and this is where I say I'm sorry to Eric. Eric drafted in his fantasy because I touted him so much in the preseason. And Loveland didn't have a catch in week one. But I think that's, I think this is the kind of season that Dalton Kincaid is going to have.

24:57I have one other like really just bonus mild take. Okay. I had too many. I'm sorry. Is that okay? No, it's not okay. This one's more of a quick one. This one is personal between me and Zach Taylor. Not, you know, he doesn't know. What's going on with you guys? Nothing. He doesn't know who I am. But I've often called him the polo shirt of NFL head coaches. Like he's just fine. He's just there. You're like, you need to. I wear a lot of polo shirts. Like they get you through, but just like,

25:24Colleen Wolfe:I kind of have a polo shirt on now. that's like a rugby shirt. It's cool. And like, there's cooler, I, there's cooler polo shirts. I'm just talking about like a standard sort of just like black or Navy, just, you know, work a day polo shirt that he's kind of the, the NFL head coach equivalent of a polo shirt. Yeah. The, the mild prediction is I will stop calling him that by the end. Oh, really? Cause I liked what I saw at a week one. I just wanted to get, you know, what, what changed your mind? Just a little aggro. Just, um, at the end of the game, they could have easily played. They blew a big lead late in that game against the Bucs and they got the ball and the Bucs have all their timeouts and you could have seen them revert to type and like run, run, pass, play conservative.

26:03Instead, they like spread out the Bucs, which they hadn't been doing all game and they like were throwing on first down. The first play was drawn up for this guy, Dante Myers, who not so long ago was in the Canadian Football League, who was trying out for the Canadian Football League, like came out of nowhere. It's his first NFL game. And they're like dialing up plays for Dante Myers. And they're throwing on first down. Like everything about it was like, hey, we're going to finish this game on our terms. They asked him about it afterwards. And he said he took some things from these joint practices that like we can't like, we can't let the other, you know, we can't hope that the other team just like lets us win.

26:39We got to go out there and take it. I just, I just saw a new Zach Taylor. Respect that. Yeah. The Bengals. Stock up on the Bengals? A little bit. Like ownership, I think, has him under fire a little bit. and maybe it has him like coaching like there's no tomorrow. You know what I mean? Yeah. Those polo shirts. Start wearing some... I like Greg's shirt today. Brightly colored shirts.

27:00Colleen Wolfe:It's a textured button up short sleeve. It's great. It's a little divisive. It's a little divisive. I came downstairs. My beautiful wife, Emeka, wasn't sure about it anymore, that this deserved to be in the rotation. But she gave you the update. But then she said, you know what? Why don't you wear a t-shirt under it and keep it open? That's called the Ellis look. that's my daughter and that that worked out yeah now you're cool guy that's uh that's like me trying to try to be more like this version of zach taylor who also i think put his foot down while i'm just talking okay i know i love your zach taylor passion he also he also installed an offense all offseason long that like joe burrow maybe not super comfortable with but that's what zach taylor wanted to do because it's going to be the best for this team in the running game in week one he stuck to it for the most part.

27:47Yeah. And the running game looked better because of it until the very end when he was like, OK, Joe, go do your thing. Let's go. All right. That is our those are our mild predictions.

27:56Colleen Wolfe:We're going to we're going to do that too. Yeah. Well, Taylor, we're going to have to revisit this. It's a tricky prediction because I can kind of control it, but he's going to have to keep keep earning my trust throughout this season. OK, let's take a quick break and then let's come back with our medium and spicy takes. And yes, our TNF preview opening the new Bill Stadium. Yeah, that's a good one. Lions and Bills. Back in a few minutes.

32:29Back on NFL Daily. Look, I probably should have looked up and checked to see if Eric, our aforementioned producer, was wearing a black polo before I besmirched it. Zach Taylor, of course. On the shirt, you know, today. But I didn't. And that's what he's wearing. That's what I wear a lot of these days. Yeah. There's nothing wrong with it. Let's get to our medium takes. I am curious where you go here.

32:48Colleen Wolfe:Okay. I'm going to the city that we are in right now. Mm. L.A. Where Justin Herbert. Ooh. We'll finish the season with a career high rushing total. Okay. You got me excited. Out of sheer self-preservation. Because everything has been focused on Justin Herbert and Mike McDaniel and downfield throwing. But the reality of the situation is the Chargers poor pass protection, which has haunted them for years and continues to do so, is going to force a drastic shift in his play style. Like this is Herbert's current career high in rushing is 302. That can't be right. 498. 498. Yeah. So I say he goes above 500.

33:46Colleen Wolfe:it. Okay. That was last year. Right now, with 29 yards in week one, he is almost exactly on pace. No way. Pretty much like right there. He's slightly behind. You need him to pick it up. I don't love that for him. I don't either. If he has to, because he's a great runner when he wants to be, but he tends to take big hits. He's such a big guy. It's like he's not worried. Almost Josh Allen style about the hits that he takes. Maybe he's the one delivering the punishment. I'm not panicking. I talked about the 49ers, for instance, changing my mind after week one. I'm going to feel okay that that was a bad performance out of the Chargers.

34:28I'm not going to freak out. I did spend the whole offseason saying they better win their first two games because it's the easiest start to the season of any team. And then they have the toughest stretch I've ever seen from weeks three to ten, something like that. And now they've lost that one game.

34:44Colleen Wolfe:Did you change Did you change your mind at all about the Cardinals? Yes. It was more like I felt better about the Cardinals than I even feel bad about the Chargers. And I already was wanting to be optimistic. Jim Harbaugh, I don't know if you saw this, during the week said he regretted not playing his guys in the preseason. Oh. It was almost like, ah, these newfangled sports science guys and we're not supposed to get anyone hurt and he's more of an old school guy who would rather play his guys in the preseason. I shouldn't have listened to them and that they weren't totally ready. There was a little feeling to that of like, man, they just weren't ready for this game in a way that the Cardinals were.

35:23And I'm going to give them a one-week pass.

35:25Colleen Wolfe:I don't love that sentiment. I don't love him already having regrets about how the ramp up to the season has gone. Look, if Herbert doesn't evolve and improve this year, it's going to be a tough one for a lot of us who've had a lot of Herbert stock year after year. What do you think of even the accusation that I'm going to make about your medium prediction? Okay. Which is like it's almost excuse-making for Herbert right there. Like we're already blaming the offensive line when we're only one week in. And to be fair, he's got Joe Alt back who looked great. He does. At right tackle. He's got Rashawn Slater back at left tackle.

36:08It's not perfect in the middle. That's for sure. But if you're a great quarterback and you got some good weapons around you, it's year three of the program.

36:17Colleen Wolfe:Like, I just felt like that. Like nobody, nobody was open. Like there was no separation. There was nowhere for him to even go. I think it was a totally stunned crowd there. Yeah, it was quiet. Chargers fans at one point after all these penalties that Jordan talked about on Sunday night, just started booing. Like, and you just, week one, they were booing like Mike McDaniel and the offense, which just hasn't happened a lot in the Herbert era. It was as like tough a loss because I think of the opponent and it was home as any team had in week one. We actually have some sound of Jim Harbaugh after the game, which frankly troubled me.

37:00Colleen Wolfe:Jim, how do you feel the defense played today? You know, again, the credit to the Cardinals, you know, our... Oh, no. I mean, the thing that this... There's things for not the way we would want it to go. Oh. Oh, no. We could have kept going on, but it really did feel like Harbaugh was glitching. like it was just i don't know what's that like he couldn't he like kept trying to restart like he he couldn't quite believe what he saw yeah out of his team it was almost like he had multiple things going on in his head at once and he was trying to answer the question but he could not get off of whatever the topic that was happening in his head was and he eventually got to the line like I believe in our players.

38:02And it was just like... I don't think they expected it. I didn't expect it. Look, there were great moments. Herbert had a great pass on Sunday, which cut the lead to 16 to 14. And the game was still within reach. Right. It's on the money. And after the touchdown, like they immediately show Madison Beer in the crowd and she's, you know, doing a little dance. And the fact that they then went on to lose to the Cardinals. Yeah. That, it struck me like, hmm.

38:43Colleen Wolfe:That caught a lot of people off guard. I mean, that ruined a lot of people's dynasty leagues and elimination pools and everything. Are you at all concerned that the like Herbert Madison Beer combination and the dance afterwards is is very much like almost the like they are the chargers equivalent of travis kelsey and taylor swift no no who are like the dynasty one of the greatest teams ever and like hey we're we're that version of that why because he has like a hot famous girlfriend i'm just it's just yeah it's just like i don't think but like we're like we're the team that's like renting our stadium from the Rams, basically.

39:27Like, it's just not at the, you know.

39:29Colleen Wolfe:Well, yeah. I'm very happy for them. I'm just saying it's like you got this other example right in your own division. We don't need to compare, Greg. Okay, that's fair. That's fair. But that's kind of what we do. All flowers can shine together. That's kind of what we do when it comes to the quarterbacks, at least. Yeah, you're right. QB Island voting for MVPs. That is kind of our job to compare. What not? What is my medium take? You tell me. Okay, I think I settled on a few here. Which one will I go to? I'll go for the 49ers one. So I thought about this team, and they are the team I feel the most different after week one.

40:08And so the reason this is only a medium take is I'm going to predict the 49ers will finish ahead of the Rams. Ooh, that's good.

40:18Colleen Wolfe:Or the Seahawks. Just one. They're going to come in second. Okay. See that little rope-it-up? That's why it's a medium one. You know, I'd been honking all offseason that it's really like a big two, that Seahawks, Rams, I'm putting them ahead of the whole rest of the NFL. I like this take. I'm being perhaps unduly influenced by this week one performance. It really wasn't just the way they won. It was the fact that all those stars were on the field and it was proof of concept. It was Christian McCaffrey proof of concept. It was Fred Warner, proof of concept. It was Nick Bosa, Mike Evans, all of whom had different injury questions coming into the year.

40:58And now it's like, oh, actually, those dudes are all still dudes.

41:01Colleen Wolfe:Yeah, just to have a defense that had multiple people healthy was such a different experience, I think, watching the game. It was, they just looked so dominant from start to finish. And they looked like a team that had so many different upsides to it. Like there are so many things that you could point to that are just fun and exciting about the team. I think that like the outlook is really good. What were the vibes there from the 49ers? So high, like the highest of vibes. Also, everyone in Melbourne was wearing 49ers gear. It was all over the place. And it just felt like, I know I've said it before, but like the energy from their sideline was palpable compared to the Rams.

41:50What was the crowd like? Because it was kind of hard to tell on the broadcast.

41:54Colleen Wolfe:Oh, the crowd was awesome. Yeah? Yeah. They were so into it. Also, it was the best wave I've ever seen in a stadium. Pro 49ers or just more pro football? Well, it was a Rams home game. Right. They tried to do like the Rams whose house. I was like, that's not going to work. They did. They did. And I didn't realize it, but you have to say it three times in order for it to be a thing. I thought you could just say once. It's like Beetlejuice. Yeah, exactly. But yeah, it's definitely in the stadium. There were a lot of Niners fans. And I talked to a lot of Australians who had been Niners fans even before the game was coming.

42:35Yeah, I think a lot of overseas fans in general are fans of the big 90s teams. Yeah. Because that's when they first or 80s teams because that's when they first like saw football on their television.

42:48Colleen Wolfe:Dude, Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice walking around. No credential. Just like just the most swagger I've ever seen. That man loves an audience. He is such an entertainer, such a performer. He is incredible. I did a sit down with Jerry Rice, Tori Holt and Roger Goodell. and the trash talking that was going back and forth between Tori and Jerry was just epic. It was so good. Look at the name drops Colleen can give us on these. That's incredible. The only person who I've seen try to get away with like no credential in a spot like that is Marshawn Lynch at the Super Bowl. Like you have to be Marshawn Lynch level.

43:30And even he got kind of checked at one point, but it like, yeah. Oh my God. Gets away with it. All right, let's get your spicy take.

43:38Colleen Wolfe:Oh, we're there. Okay. so this is spicy this is spicy on a lot of fronts i think but i think it's especially spicy coming from me knowing my history with this team oh the giants are a playoff team whoa that is spicy listen they've been a playoff team just twice you might be overreacting we'll see We'll see. They wouldn't be spicy if you weren't. Well, I had to make it spicy. Yeah, fair, fair. This was... All that matters is you're going to be right. And that's all that matters. So I just think about the culture and the chemistry of this team. And it's been just wrought with failed marriages at head coach in the past.

44:25Colleen Wolfe:Brian Dayball, Joe Judge, Pat Shermer, Ben McAdoo. I think that John Harbaugh is a perfect fit for the team and the fact that they're young and they're hungry and just watching Jackson Dart and Cam Scadaboo, it's like they're just picking up where they left off last year with the vibes being high. And sure, it could be a total overreaction. The Cowboys' defense was a disaster, and it was a disaster last year. And I feel like it's going to be again this year, and they could not get off the field. So we had a lot to look at this Giants offense, but it's just, I think that they're going to be, I think that they're going to be good and they have an easy schedule.

45:11It, you know, it makes a lot of sense. Harbaugh and the giants could be an example. And the giants have been an example of this when they've made the playoffs since Tom Coughlin left, they have made two playoff runs with teams that like weren't really that great, but they got a wild card. And my theory is like, it's not that, that hard to improve from a five or six win team for one year to, like a 10 win team, if you just kind of raise the floor. And that's what John Harbaugh can do with a young team. He makes a lot of sense as a guy who can get some discipline, get everyone going in the same direction and take advantage of the talent that he has.

45:48Cause the defensive line and the offensive line could both be excellent. And that's like a hell of a place to start your team as, as having an advantage. That means though, that like either the Cowboys or the Eagles are probably not making the playoffs. well I

46:02Colleen Wolfe:based on what I saw from the Cowboys that's so you're leaving the Cowboys out yeah but I'm not saying that the Giants are going to be converting 80 % of their third downs like every single week why not but it's it's definitely that's what I was expecting that performance was what I was expecting from the Cowboys and not the Giants and they if they can possess the ball it's a great formula for them because their pass rush is going to be great I can see it Okay, so you have the Giants making the playoffs, not ahead of the Eagles. No. Okay. I can't. And to be clear, I said the 49ers will finish ahead of the Seahawks or Rams.

46:40Right. I didn't say which one, and I didn't say that they didn't finish ahead of both of them. That's possible. But at least ahead of one of them. That would be spicy. I think it was more week one was like, oh, Sam Darnold's already got an injury. This happened with the Rams. Miles Garrett has an injury. Like, yeah, sports is unpredictable. One of these teams are going to stub their toe somehow, And then the 49ers take advantage. I like that as a spicy take.

47:03Colleen Wolfe:Okay. What's yours? Okay. I'm going to go with the Bears and Ben Johnson and their offense, making Ben Johnson look like Babe freaking Ruth. You know, the story of Babe Ruth calling his shot, you know, pointing out to the outfield before he hits that home run. In this case, not as dramatic. It's Ben Johnson off mic with Dan Pompey, a great reporter of The Athletic, letting him come to work with him every day and then saying that we are going to be the highest scoring team of all time. And then him actually doing it at that very least. We're going to week 18. It's going to be part of the story of the whole season.

47:46And I want it to be. They get to week 18 and they have a chance to break the single season scoring record. Now, the Broncos in 2013, they scored 606 points. The Bears are already on their way. They scored 59. But it can't just be, you know, beating the points record. It has to be a points per game record, which is over 39. And so, I don't know. I could absolutely be overreacting. But, you know, they have some of these AFC South games out of division. That's where they're going to have to really clean up. The thing that worries you, and you could have said this about Denver too, but you know as some of the cold weather games that they're going to have late in the season but man it only took one week for me to just imagine this actually happening them them being one of

48:34Colleen Wolfe:the greatest offenses yeah I mean this is now I'm I'm looking over their schedule and it it could happen I mean late late in the year yeah you have the Jets you have the Falcons you know you have the Saints you have the Dolphins you what you need to do is put a bunch of 50 and 40 burgers You have to. Because you will have games. They're playing the Vikings this week where you got to be happy going, you know, winning 26 to 21. I like it. That's spicy. But I also kind of feel like after watching them week one, everyone is sort of can see it. Everyone can see it. Maybe it's not that spicy. It's maybe more just I changed my mind.

49:13You know, the Bears only had two 500-yard games, I think, in franchise history before Ben Johnson arrived. And then they've had two with Ben Johnson. It's outrageous. I have an extra one, too.

49:25Colleen Wolfe:Bonus! I just wanted to throw out just for you, because you were talking about your history with certain teams. You're usually very anti-Giants. Yeah. You've also been very pro-Colts on this show. And this one, I really am worried about. I'm leaning in. I'm very intrigued. the prediction is that the Jets will have a top three pick in the NFL draft because the Colts will be that bad and they own their draft pick no no like the worst case scenario for this team is so bad and week one freaked me out I'm a little panicked I listened to some I mean I listened to some of the local coverage too they're already talking about hot seat when you're going to have a disastrous season It needs to start poorly with a guy on the hot seat.

50:16That's what's going on here with Shane Steichen. The defense is what concerns me the most. And I know they were playing Baltimore and hopefully they recover, but the secondary was just lost and slow and young.

50:30Colleen Wolfe:Justin Wally. He was struggling. Like there was just a lot going on. And I just thought the recipes are here for incredibly bad vibes. And their pass rush. Like, well, I don't know what's going on with it. Where is it? Yeah, they played the Ravens who had a good plan for them. On paper, it should be okay. But then you look at the guys who are there in the middle. It's DeForest Buckner. It's Grover Stewart. They've been there together for seven, eight years, which great. But maybe their best days are behind them. Lamar had so much time. Like every single... I just felt like he could have made a sandwich back there with the amount of time he had.

51:07And that would be a surprise. Are you in on the kids lingo these days? I don't know. They're calling it.

51:16Colleen Wolfe:Hello, fellow kids. No, that they're calling interceptions, meatball subs and whatnot. I'm really sounding alls now. Wait. See, you're not even in. You're not in it. No, but someone was trying to give me the nickname meatball salad. So I don't know if that's related. Meatball subs, like different types of sandwiches as interceptions, you know, it's a thing. I am so not up on that. Okay. Um, Greg, you clearly are. Get with the kids or stay off social media. Like you probably have this. I do. That's different. I'm a man. I'm 40. I'm much older than 40. Uh, yeah. My daughter in high school. It's so weird.

51:57Colleen Wolfe:I cannot believe she's in high school. No, let's get to our TNF preview. It's the lions. It's the bills. It's on Amazon. It's Al Michaels. It's Kirk Herbstreet for the first time this year. This is their debut because that first game was on Netflix. Yeah. You want to get the multiple income streams. How about you do the Netflix and the NFL media and ESPN? Would that be possible? Is anyone pulling that one off right now? I don't think so. I don't know. That would be tough. You know, I feel like if anyone could do it, it would be like an MJ. MJ has Netflix going on and ESPN, but yeah. Yeah. So the game though.

52:36Yes. Four and a half points is the spread. for the Bills at home against Detroit. They are opening the new stadium, at least for the regular season. The preseason didn't go so well.

52:48Colleen Wolfe:It didn't. But this will be the baptism of Highmark Stadium. In fact, like, has a stadium opening ever gone worse? They had to replace the entire grass field and people were calling it like an embarrassment. They couldn't understand what happened. They had to replace the whole thing. Like, it was dangerous. and they had all the obstructed view seats, like 500 plus seats were obstructed. I'm not trying to rain on the parade. I'm just hoping that's all figured out. That's what preseason is all about. It's good that they had the preseason. You gotta work through these things. It's a dress rehearsal.

53:22Colleen Wolfe:And you know what? Stadiums need it too. I should not be bringing this up on the official NFL show. I'm just giving some context. I think for this game though, it bodes well for Josh Allen. What, if the defenders are slipping and stuff? No. No, I'm just saying that Detroit, they struggled. Their secondary did. And now they're facing Josh Allen and what Josh Allen, this offense, did to the Texans, who this was, they finished as a top-ranked unit last year. And the last time that Josh Allen had faced this Texans defense, he was sacked eight times. So, yes, it's one game. first one of the year. We don't have a sample size, but this could be another shootout game.

54:12Colleen Wolfe:I think it could be. It's definitely going to be explosive. You could argue the most impressive offensive performance of week one was not Chicago, 59 points. It was what the Bills did because of the opponent. Yeah. And Joe Brady came out and I liked the confidence. There was an early fourth down that they went for. The first third down of the entire season, third and long, was a hook and ladder. I'm like, whoa, you're breaking out the hook and ladder for your first third and long? And they got it. Like, he was not messing around. Let's actually hear from Joe Brady opening the new stadium. You know, the city of Buffalo, it's a night that they deserve, right?

54:56Colleen Wolfe:And it's going to be an outstanding environment. And it's where we want to be, and we want to play under the lights. We want to do all that. so let's embrace it you know and now it's an opportunity for us to show kind of our conviction and what we believe in and not feel like we have to put on a show more concerned we're trying to put on a clinic we don't want to put on a show we want to put on a clinic i love that that's good energy was that planned yeah how did you think the energy was he's got like the t-shirt and the gold chain and it's like kind of kind of he presents young and he is young he does present young.

55:31Colleen Wolfe:That presents old, saying it that way. I just mean like there's a vibe with Joe Brady that some of the younger head coaches, like including, let's say like a Jesse Minner or Sean McVay, like he presents like he wants to be one of the guys a little bit more. It's like he's a dude. It's a different tier of, it's a different tier and different type of coach. It presents It's quite young. I like the aggro, though. It was very encouraging. And the way they ran their offense was encouraging, too. It was a lot of Kincaid, but it was a lot of Kincaid in a heavy grouping with two tight ends, three tight ends on the field.

56:10And then Kincaid was out there even when they were asking him to block a little bit. But then when he's basically your second receiver and you've got heavy personnel on defense to try to match up and then he's winning those battles, Like they had more three tight ends on the field in this game by far than any other game in the Josh Allen era. So they attacked the Texans in a different way.

56:34Colleen Wolfe:Right. And they have DJ Moore now, which that connection, it was late in the game that we finally saw it get going. But five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. And now this will be DJ Moore's first game in front of Bills fans as a bill. So that feels super exciting. I'm a huge fan of DJ Moore. So I'm really happy that he went to Buffalo. And I think that he's going to have an awesome year with them, just based on even one game. But also Greg Rousseau on the defense just was lights out. Three sacks. I mean, he was awesome in this game. Eight pressures. It's going to be a tougher matchup if he's lined up against Pinesuo.

57:21who moved to left tackle quietly and looked great doing it. But the Lions were really creative on their offense where on Jameer Gibbs' touchdown, I missed this on Sunday, they actually switched Sewell's position, moved him back to his normal side on the right, and they just had this monster group on the right side. And then everyone expected them to run behind him. And then Gibbs kind of cut back the other way. And it was like an easy touchdown. Like they can do some cool things. Now, Blake Miller, their rookie first round pick, who is their starting right tackle, was on the injury report, missed the fictional Monday practice that they have to do an injury report for.

57:57Are you aware of this Monday practice injury report thing?

58:00Colleen Wolfe:Yes. It's weird. They have to estimate whether the players practiced or not for a practice that didn't exist. If there was a practice that day, they have to estimate if they would have practiced. But they don't practice because it's the day after a game. No one can practice. I think this is the dumbest thing in the world. Why is anyone wasting their time on this? I guess it's injury information. But I feel like, do you even have to be truthful? No. In gambling, I suppose it provides more integrity there. But I think all that matters is once you get to Wednesday and they have to do the questionable or the out.

58:36That's all that really matters. We do think the Lions are probably going to be without one of their starting guards, Christian Mahogany. You know, the Lions, we talked about them already in the show, but it's hard not to be worried about a defense that gave up 358 yards and 30 points after halftime against the saints after halftime that includes overtime but i also was encouraged you know i know the offense felt a little up and down in that game but i think this sets up as an awesome prime time week two game to continue the trend of points points points it's the highest scoring week one ever. This on paper looks like the highest scoring game of week two.

59:20I know the Bills had some moments on defense, but ultimately I kind of trust the Lions offensively to get it done against this Bills.

59:29Colleen Wolfe:Yet neither of these defenses looked incredibly like dominant in week one. No, CJ Stroud had like a great middle three and a half quarters. The problem is he fumbled the ball in the first possession and he fumbled the ball in the last possession. And you give the Bills some credit for that. But yeah, they can test the secondary of the Lions. I mean, of the Bills, rather. It's Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, your old friend. Yes. He's back there. It's last year's first round pick, Maxwell Harrison. Damar Hamlin's back there. They were playing a lot of six defensive backs last week. And then you can kind of just like run right through them.

1:00:04Either way, I feel like the Lions will have answers for them on offense.

1:00:07Colleen Wolfe:How many touches will Jameer Gibbs get? Well, I don't like the pace. What was it? 579 yards. 79. I did the math earlier. That's for sure. And it does get to a point that I think is true about a lot of these Thursday night games. Like depth is really tested. I think the week two Thursday night game is the worst draw of like the season because you have to play twice in five days after not playing all season. I think Thursday nights are always like a terrible draw. But the fact that you have to play two games right away to start the season and if you look at how off how long these defenses were on the field last week if you count the penalties the Lions defense was on the field for 90 plays last week that is a incredible amount and the Bills were on the field a ton too they were on the field for 79 plays so like this is a game where you would have where you'd like to be rotating in a lot of you know substitutes and the Lions specifically I don't know if they really have substitutes I don't know if they really have starters that you can trust that at safety at cornerback.

1:01:14No,

1:01:14Colleen Wolfe:they don't. They're, they're really thin back there. And if you think about the game from two years ago, Eric, you might remember 2024. That was a shootout. And what it was 48, 42. And the last seven matchups between them have been decided by a score. So historically these two teams, and then based on what we saw in week one, feels like everything is lining up for a shootout. Also, by the way, I said that Greg Russo had three sacks. He only had two sacks, but he did have three sacks in that game two years ago. That's a good note. He is all about accuracy. You know what, though? He had two sacks, two more quarterback hits, and four more pressures.

1:01:57That's eight pressures overall. That's a monster game. Ow! I was worried the Bills defense doesn't have enough juice this year, and overall, it wasn't a great game, But individually, you saw Rousseau play well. You saw Ed Oliver play it well. You saw Deion Walker play well. So it's a good matchup this week. And a great matchup up front when it's Aiden Hutchinson, who was awesome last week for the Lions against Deion Dawkins and the Bills offensive line. So it should be a lot of fun. Jared Goff, I think coming off a solid week, actually made some good plays against pressure. Who do you like to win?

1:02:29I like the Bills. Do you like the Bills to cover? It's four and a half points.

1:02:33Colleen Wolfe:Yes. Okay. I think I'm leaning that way too. I think it's a tough spot. The opening in a new stadium. That's the thing. The Bills offense looked pretty good. I think they go back and forth, but it's so high scoring that four and a half points doesn't seem that crazy. Let's go 37-30. Just get wild. All right. Something like that. 34-27. We did it. Hey! One in the books. We're going to have Colleen Wolfe each and every Tuesday on this show. So it's not exactly the same See You Next Tuesday crew, but it's the light version.
