Key claims

  • Jets’ rebuild is “refreshing” because it’s admitted before the deadline.
  • Colts are in true win-now mode and paid a premium for Sauce Gardner.
  • Cowboys’ defense issues trace to Micah Parsons trade; Quinnen Williams helps run defense but is a gamble.

Notable examples (trades)

  • Jets trade Sauce Gardner to Colts for 2026/2027 first-round picks plus A.D. Mitchell.
  • Jets trade Quinnen Williams to Cowboys for a 2027 first (higher of Cowboys/Packers), 2026 second, and Mozzie Smith.
  • Seahawks trade for Rashid Shaheed (4th/5th).
  • Saints trade Trevor Penning to Chargers; Jacoby Myers to Jaguars (4th/6th).
  • Cowboys add Logan Wilson (7th); Bears get Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (late swap).

1:52Welcome to NFL Daily, where we love a deadline. I'm Greg Rosenthal here in the Chris Wessling Podcast Studio. Trade deadline is over. I'm with Jordan Roderick and I'm with Colleen Wolfe. Heyo. We got the See You Next Tuesday crew back for the first time in a minute on one of the biggest Tuesdays on the NFL calendar. Tuesday it is. And on, you know, America's calendar because it is election day as well. Oh, get out to the polls. Big Tuesday all around. And it's Steve Mariucci's birthday. Happy birthday to Mooch. Look, I already voted. I pre-voted and I put it in the envelope and then I went for a short run and put it into the closest voter box because I love a functional run.

2:38Let's talk trades. This is too much honking. right after the, you know how like very often on these types of shows, it's like, you need that? My note card went flying. Jordan doesn't like it there in the middle of the table. It's like, oh, you know, we really build, kind of bothering me. We really build up the trade deadline to be such a big deal and then it doesn't end up being that big of a deal.

2:58Jourdan Rodrigue:False. You know what happened to be this year? A big effing deal. Totally. This is the opposite of how I treat my writing deadlines. Like they don't really exist. This one actually exists. It was one of those. It was a huge deal. I do love deadlines. I only work with a deadline. I can't work unless I have a deadline. Apparently the New York Jets, who I do feel like have been a subject on a lot of Tuesdays. We were here for the Robert Sala firing. We were here for some other assorted firings last year. Certain events. And now we're talking about a complete restructuring of who we thought the Jets were.

3:41But more important, who we thought the Indianapolis Colts were. Let's start with the Sauce Gardner trade because that was the most surprising. That was the biggest. We'll get to Quinn and Williams and everything else that happened today. But Sauce Gardner is an Indianapolis Colt. Love it. The Jets receive 2026 and 2027 first round picks from the Colts and A.D. Mitchell, which feels just like a little throw in. But I actually think that's a nice little part of the deal for the Jets. We'll get to the Jets side of things. But I do think it's for the 2025 season more interesting that your Colts are going all in in a way that probably surprises the outside universe.

4:26but I think actually makes a lot of sense when you think about how their team is structured as a not so secret Colts believer. Colleen, how did this trade make you feel? Well, first of all, I love that you're calling them my Colts because this was the one year that I was like, all right, I'm not going to do it. But I do, you know, think maybe Connie Bowl is on the table here. Eagles Colts. Oh, my God. Can you imagine? Okay. First of all, this is such a departure from how Chris Ballard, the Colts GM, usually operates. He's pretty conservative. He loves the draft and develop strategy. So the fact that he traded like this for such a splashy player and there was so much given away as well in it was just sort of a little bit of a surprise, a lot of bit of a surprise.

5:14but it also just goes to show how confident this regime is in the current roster, that it's not a blip for them, that they are all in. And I love the move for them.

5:25Jourdan Rodrigue:It's the epitome of aggression right down to the player himself. And certainly with how Sauce Gardner has been playing and just some of the vibes in New York, just continue losing, getting sort of that stink out and really going to a place that is on a roll really other than a little blip last week. And he's an aggressive player. He allows them to mix their coverages. He wants to play man coverage. He wants to make plays on the ball. Lou Anarumo in his renaissance here. Big Lou. We love him. Big Lou is having, he's a perfect player for him because he can do a lot of different things and he can be as aggressive as he wants, especially with a front that's playing well and a pass rush that's playing well.

6:05Jourdan Rodrigue:You can really compliment that with a player like Sauce Gardner. And I want to say too, the aggression that you noted, Colleen, I think is so important because there were some real, I guess like come to Jesus conversations that, that have happened within that building is real understanding where their roster was at and where they had sort of carried themselves down the decision-making process, knowing they had a good roster and it's a really continuous group between Ed Dodds, Kevin Rogers and John Shaw, all those guys in scouting and pro personnel and player personnel. They have, they had to really say really, where is our roster at and plug in the right quarterback and make an ego decision to move on from a perceived mistake at that time and then really understand where they're at as a team in terms of making a real contention push.

6:50Jourdan Rodrigue:Making a move like this is a real contention push. Well, that's the thing. It didn't make sense because Daniel Jones is their quarterback, but they were among the biggest win-now teams in the league. And that's when I was making the mea culpa about being so wrong about this Colts team. That is one thing that you could have seen, that they have incredible continuity. They have a lot of guys in their primes when you think about Michael Pittman and Pierce and their offensive line for the most part and downs and everything. And then they also have some players that aren't going to be around that much longer, like Grover Stewart and DeForest Buckner have been around forever.

7:25Zaire Franklin and Kenny Moore, they're at the point of their careers where it's like, okay, it's year to year. And most of these guys have been in this system on both sides of the ball in terms of the offensive system has been there. And then the players have been there on the defensive side. And you get Lou Anarumo. And he was such an important part of it. And you think, okay, cornerback is very unpredictable. And the Jets would probably say Sauce Gardner over the last year and a half has not been as good as he was the previous two years. But you do get a coordinator in Lou Anarumo that you feel like can maximize everything that Sauce Gardner does.

8:01So I think that's a big part of that is like faith in Lou. in addition to Faith in Sauce Gardner, whose contract extension that he just signed in July literally hasn't even started. That part. That part. Like, the Jets obviously were not planning on trading him if they gave him this contract in the offseason. And it's just such a huge fire sale for them. Like, they are now just in full rebuild to trade him and Quinnen Williams. Like, these two players together just shows you that they're ready to implode the whole operation at this point. I can't remember. Or Reese Hall. I was going to say, I can't remember a team like doing this quite as aggressively in recent memory.

8:41Because to go over the picks they have now, they have three firsts in 2027. And they're not like, you know, in the NBA, sometimes you get a first and it's like, it's like the Thunders first. It's like, that's the 29th pick in the draft. They have their own first, the Cowboys first and the Colts first. Like that could be pretty good in 2027. You don't know what the Colts are going to be like. we don't know what the Cowboys are going to be like. They also have two firsts this year, you know, in 26 in the next draft and two seconds. So they only had two top 100 picks actually before this trade happened.

9:16So that was weird. They are a team, though, that has done this before. They actually had three first round picks in 2022. That's how they got some of these players. And it doesn't didn't necessarily go well, but they are loaded up in terms of pick. So I even though I was smarmy kind of thinking like, wow, they could even get good players like Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner, maybe if they're lucky with these picks. I actually don't hate it for the Jets. I think it makes sense for both sides, especially in the Sauce Gardner deal.

9:41Jourdan Rodrigue:I think this is totally allowed to be a win-win trade. Yeah, honestly, because for all parties involved, because it's great for the Cowboys to get a player of Quinnen Williams caliber. And I know we're going to get to that particular move in a minute. But speaking of the Jets specifically, I think it is so refreshing when a team actually admits that they have to commit to a rebuild before the trade deadline of that same season happens. Because the draft, you need to recoup some of that ammo ahead of that spring's draft if you're really going to be aggressive about where you're at and be very honest about where you're at as a roster and the way that it's constructed.

10:17Jourdan Rodrigue:And I think that you have a new set of talent evaluators in under Darren Mugi and a new regime and a new head coach. And so you're going to start installing your players with those picks. and we'll see if it works out for them, obviously short-term and long-term, but in terms of understanding what you are, first of all, which I think the Colts are doing really, really well. On the other side, understanding what you are not, which I don't really think the Jets moved this preseason and start of the regular season, like they were really realistic about who they actually were. They were trying to push it.

10:50Jourdan Rodrigue:Well, I think all of us were kind of like, I said it myself, I was like, I kind of am in on the Jets with what they're doing. Well, they just weren't that team. They didn't really have, they didn't ultimately have the answer at quarterback. They certainly did not have the answer on defense. They certainly need to make some moves additionally to what they already have on offense, all on every phase. And so I think admitting that before the trade deadline, the Bengals, for example, are not admitting this before trade deadlines. Other teams that are not contenders and need to rebuild in a big way or at least fully rebuild one side of the ball, like I find it refreshing that they've done this.

11:26I was talking about this with Daniel Jeremiah. We have a move the sticks. We did not move the sticks. Wow. Freeze it. Are you Jim Kerwin and Pat Miller? Pat Miller, Jim Kerwin? I'm not trying to get on that podcast. We have a 40s and free agents coming out later this week. We were talking about this off air. It's just like building around defense is tough. It's very much the Bill Polian method from 20 years ago, but I totally agree with it. Offense is more consistent. And I think if you're going to invest like most of your resources on defense, the path is way thinner. And that's where the Jets were at.

12:04They were with this Robert Sala defense. The defense was great under Robert Sala. These were two of the best players. And I think it had really soured. You heard from Connor Hughes at SNY. I've heard this separately that like Quinn and Williams seem like the happiest guy ever. And at one point, and he was kind of done. I'm so excited that we get to see Quinn and Williams smile again. This is so great. All right, let's go over that. I still think we should have a few things on the sauce, but let's talk about exactly what they got for Quinn and Williams. So the Cowboys get Quinn and Williams. The Cowboys, it's just outrageous.

12:44and they get a 2027 first round pick from the Cowboys. And it'll either be the Cowboys first round pick or the Packers first round pick, whichever is higher, which to me is a great little wrinkle. It's a great little NBA wrinkle and a nice piece of business by the Jets to cover themselves there. They also get a 2026 second round pick And they also get Mozzie Smith thrown in the deal. So if you really want to have your brain broken, here's the Micah Parsons trade. That's it. Big picture. Here it is. They essentially traded away Micah Parsons and Mozzie Smith for Quinan Williams and Kenny Clark in a move up like 20 spots to the back end of the first round of the draft, which is not that much, in my opinion.

13:39I know it's a lot to consider, but we'll consider this one like on its own. What do you think about the Cowboys getting Quinnen Williams? I think that it immediately addresses their run defense, which is helpful for them. Obviously, he's really good in the middle of the field there. But I just feel like this trade kind of shows that obviously Jerry Jones is maybe regretful of moving Micah Parsons. Micah Parsons, who potentially wins defensive player of the year. And all of their defensive struggles stem from that move specifically. So now he's trying to go back all in since... I mean, even before last night, before last night, the narrative of the Cowboys was their offense is so good.

14:31Their defense is not holding up this end of the bargain. And then last night, I mean, you saw what the Cardinals were able to do. Their defense was a disaster, the Dallas Cowboys. So I like the move and I'm happy for Quinn and Williams. But I just feel like ultimately the Cowboys should have never traded away Michael Parsons in the first place.

14:49Jourdan Rodrigue:I think it's coming to terms with the fact that you can't put the lid back on the pot. Right. Right. And maybe I said that in a little Jerry Jonesy way. I can't put the lid back on the pot. I don't know. The toothpaste back in the tube. I don't know if he would say. He's more about like glory hole. Yeah, I was going to say. Wow. And trying to, what is he trying to do? Something with mosquitoes. He's always talking. You can't close the glory hole. Okay. So I feel like this is actually him and the team itself understanding like what's done is done. You have to plan for the future here. I do like that the Cowboys still have their 2026 first round picks.

15:21Jourdan Rodrigue:I like that. I also like that this offense is clearly an elite group to the point where if we are even at a looking at a medium level defense, you're talking about a for sure playoff contender, maybe even a team that can make a run. Now, we're not talking about that. We're talking about an offense that they're clearly hoping is going to continue to be play at this caliber, maybe regress a little bit, but probably not a ton because of all of the guys that they have and some of the young guys they especially have up front can still play at this caliber. Quinton Williams is only 27 years old. He'll be 28 next year when I do think that they think their defense will be ready to match the level of the offense.

15:59Jourdan Rodrigue:So I just think this is obviously a little late of a move for this season, but it's also sort of a coming to terms with what you did, first of all, and what now you have to do next in order to get this group as competitive as it needs to be, seeing how far beyond and above schedule your offense is and where your defense at least needs to hit the floor of in order to have a more complimentary group. That's 2026 to me. And it's good that they have those picks because if you draft well in a couple key spots on defense, you can play those guys right away. You're not inserting them into complicated series of passing layers.

16:34Jourdan Rodrigue:You're not asking a rookie running back to pass block for you. You're not asking an offensive lineman to be really good right away. No, you're plugging in defensive players who grow as the season continues with some weight-bearing walls, and Quinnen Williams is certainly one of them. But that's also, to your point, talking about looking ahead to the draft, seeing how Quinn and Williams affects the defense and then being able to plan ahead. Okay, now what do we need to do with our draft strategy in general? And I love Quinn and Williams, but they didn't get any extra picks in the end. I mean, that's crazy.

17:03They traded away Michael Parsons and they don't have any extra picks. They just like moved up 20. Essentially, they moved up from the Jets, you know, second round or their second round pick to the Packers first round pick, whatever ends up that being. Let's right now, it would be about 20 picks.

17:17Jourdan Rodrigue:I'm not saying the logistics or the return on the trade is necessarily great. I'm just saying I can see what their process was after they realized that there's no turning back or getting the process is like, is make it up as you go along. And a lot of it, I think is emotional. I mean, Jerry Jones even talked about on Monday, how annoyed he was about Micah Parsons lying down on that trainer's table, which is by the way, good move by Micah Parsons. I, it really sounded like that was kind of the last thing. He was just like, when Michael Irvin have ever done that, would Deion Sanders have ever done that?

17:45And it's like they're having to answer for a boss that's like, go get me someone. Now, I think Quinton Williams is great. He is three years older if we're kind of comparing him and Sauce. But I think he's probably a safer overall long-term bet. I just think when you look at these three trades in general, when you're talking about the Micah Parsons, it's kind of crazy to me that Sauce Gardner went for the same price as Micah Parsons. essentially. I would argue because I like I'd rather have A.D. Mitchell maybe on his money than Kenny Clark. Like Sauce Gardner costs more. But essentially Sauce Gardner and Micah Parsons cost about the same.

18:27Micah Parsons and Quinn and Williams were pretty close to the same. And that's a missed evaluation of Micah Parsons. And Cowboys fans would be like, well, that's in the past. Now we're just talking about the president. Well, it's all it's all together. You know, you have to evaluate it all together.

18:41Jourdan Rodrigue:And I do want to say a couple of these teams, of Packers specifically and the Colts, they are, they do share a very similar quality, which is that they believe they're going to make a Superbowl run. So you stop, I mean, we saw it right next door a couple of years ago. You really stopped thinking about what things cost when you need to add players to get you through those little glass layers of contention as November ends, December begins in January as well. That that's the point, like get as high of a return on those guys as you can. And certainly that I see why the Colts gave that much for Sauce Gardner really because of this, because they believe that he is a player that put the Cowboys on the other hand are three, five and one with a struggling secondary.

19:24And I ensure they'll hope that they can get into Superbowl contention next year, but that's just, it's just a hope. And there's not much reason to think about. I did want to kind of point out though, the sauce trade is risky like two firsts for a cornerback who is coming off a year that was pretty poor i would say a year ago and this year he has some good numbers like next gen stats notice you know his his tight window forced uh rate is really high like the highest in the league in terms of like when you know passes are coming into coverage now a lot of those have been completed but he's been in tight coverage he does travel with like the opposing one the talent is obviously there but it i do often think about like cornerbacks are impossible to like evaluate.

20:07There's so much variance. They're like the Colleen Wolfe of, of like, of, you know, position. What do you mean? No, I'm not. Please go on. Colleen Wolfe shows up here and she's, you know, hitting a home run every time. Cornerbacks, you don't know what they're going to do. I don't know. I just, when I'm searching for words, I like to just, I just think I'll, I'll help you out here, Greg. I just think that if they don't, if the Cowboys don't make the playoffs, which it's dicey right now, they're three, five and one. If they don't make the playoffs, then they're sacrificing these long-term assets without even making the postseason.

20:42So it's kind of like a huge gamble.

20:44Jourdan Rodrigue:Yeah, but I don't even care about this season if I'm the Cowboys. I mean, I care, obviously, like everyone cares about things. But like, I don't, if I'm them, I don't, I'm not even looking at this move in the vacuum of this year. I've already seen enough. This defense is going to let you down. Like there's no, they are in such a hole in the NFC at this point that yes, they could still get into a couple of shootouts and certainly it's not, all is not lost. And you know, three win teams have made the post season before, but it's November, like it's getting too late. And so this move, like I said, I just think this is totally made to regather yourself, admit where you're at, and then really look ahead at 2026 is the year you make, you make, try to make a run.

21:27If it's for 2026, like, why wouldn't they have gotten more in the trade in terms of resources? Yeah. Well, because this to Jordan's point early, and it's a great one. It's like this is when I think you get the most for Quinn and William. I mean, if you're the Jets, but I mean.

21:43Jourdan Rodrigue:They won't pay their players early, but they'll trade for them early. One of the things that one of the things that I thought about here, too, is like when you're when I'm adding up all these, you know, what the Cowboys got, what the Jets got, what the Packers got. like here's what the Cowboys didn't get Quinn and Williams for the last nine weeks you know and I think that's part of it too and that gets to my point about they're just making it up as they go along like Quinn and William they lost that half season of Quinn and Williams but I do think the ages are important because the Colts are looking at this like yeah we're sacrificing these draft picks that is going to hurt our team building process overall but Sus Gardner is a young player that is not going anywhere anytime soon I just think it literally is as simple as this.

22:26Jourdan Rodrigue:You're almost saying the same thing as me, but I think it's literally just as simple as this. The Colts are in truly win now mode. Like not just they think they are, they are in win now mode. So they're going to pay a higher price for a player. They think can help them win a Superbowl. The same Packers did the same thing, but they didn't pay as high a price. This is not creeping up to the trade deadline. Nobody really knew what they were going to look like, even though they're a very good team. Clearly we're seeing the fallout of that. Now the Cowboys on the other side, understand they are not a win now team right now, but they have a win now offense that probably will not regress much in 2026.

23:00Jourdan Rodrigue:So they're paying for 2026 and they're paying 2026 money to 2026. If that makes sense. Sure. I, I think ultimately it's also just, I just don't think they're like floating in the breeze, like not plant, not I think they're legitimately planning for 2026. Yeah. Maybe I have, maybe I'm giving them too much credit. I mean, I believe they're, their GM like or who sort of acts as a GM uh Will McClay right uh like he's he's doing the best that he can with the orders that that he's got but I think I think it's chaotic and I do think it's a show of faith in Daniel Jones and Aaron Glenn I ultimately think that the Jets are saying like we're gonna we're gonna understand that you're gonna keep losing Aaron Glenn and Darren Mugi their GM and like we're gonna stay with you because it would be insane to be like firing your head coach after doing something like this.

23:52And I do think it's the Colts saying, yeah, we got a bargain with Daniel Jones right now. We are going to pay him so much money because none of this makes any sense unless Daniel Jones is making all that money next year as a member of the Colts. Pretty crazy. And a badass secondary, by the way. When Charverius Ward gets back, it'll be Charverius Ward, Kenny Moore, and Sauce Gardner. Let's take a quick break and then we'll come back and we'll finish up the other trades from a big trade deadline.

You know what you're going to have to do if you're an NFL Daily listener?

27:46Just check out our big time award show which is coming Wednesday. Hey, we've got Colleen Wolfe and Jordan working double here. We're taping a couple shows So everyone check out our mid-season awards, which are coming. We have some fun ones. We can't only talk about the Jets and all their draft picks. I was thinking, like, okay, they had a bunch of draft picks, like, a few years ago. They once had four first-round draft picks. That was in 2000. That was the famous, infamous Kyle Brady draft. John Gruden and Mike Mayock once had three first-round picks. It did not work out. That was the offensive linemen, right?

28:23That was one of them. Yes. Yeah. Still playing. Cleveland Farrell. Cleveland Farrell. Didn't work out. So sometimes, you know, what's in the mystery box is not as good. But I'm hoping that they can turn it around. Let's talk about some other moves that happened on Tuesday. Was excited for this one. Rashid Shahid to the Seahawks for a fourth and fifth round pick. The Saints made a couple moves. They also traded Trevor Penning to the Chargers. But this Shahid move seems like it could really have an impact in the NFC.

29:01Jourdan Rodrigue:I mean, I love that they did this. And it sounded like, based on some reporting, that they were scouring the receiver market just to try to see. I just think this was probably their A-plus plan because of his connections with Clint Kubiak from back when Kubiak was the Saints offensive coordinator. I love this not just for the passing game because good luck to you picking which player you would like to tilt your coverage toward and Godspeed. But also, they can truly stay in a lot of their 12 personnel like they want to because you've got two true burner receivers who can exploit so many different intermediate and long layers of the passing game, and they can stay just as explosive.

29:41Jourdan Rodrigue:But I think this helps open up their run game, which I love because if more defenders are accounting for multiple receivers who can hurt you deep on the field, that means they're going to have less of those defenders in the box stopping the run. And they have struggled with running against medium or even heavier boxes. They're not seeing a ton of light boxes so far this year. So I think it helps them become a much more complete team and they can stay in their preferred heavy personnels, but still have that lightning speed threat on the perimeter and all across the middle of the field because these guys can run a lot of different types of combinations.

30:12Yeah. And now it'll be a much quicker integration, I think, into the offense because of Clint Kubiak being there. It gives Sam Darnold another deep threat in this offense. And it comes at a perfect time while some of these Seattle Seahawks receivers are dealing with injuries like Cooper Cup. He's also an all pro returner. So this could help out their special teams as well, Seattle. I love it for this offense. And for Greg, your team who you said weeks and weeks ago was the best in the NFC potentially. and now I feel like after a primetime game, people are on board with this more and more. It is such a strange place to be because the NFC is so loaded.

30:54So it's like you would still take the field, certainly over the Seahawks. Heck, like the NFC West is so loaded that we don't know by any means that they're going to win their division. It's awesome that the Seahawks and Rams still have two games left against each other and just, it just feels like six of the best eight or nine teams in the NFL are in the NFC. So nothing's guaranteed, but I don't think the price was too big. A fourth and a fifth. I think it was fair for both sides. I actually give the saints some credit for getting a pretty fair value. I think for a guy that they probably weren't going to resign.

31:27I just don't know why you weren't resigning him because up until this year, he was like a guy averaging 16, 17 yards per catch and just has incredible speed that you can't really find anywhere else.

31:39Jourdan Rodrigue:Yeah. By the way, yet another reason you're talking about the depth and the, how loaded the NFC is yet another reason why the Cowboys decided to look honestly at themselves and work toward 2026 and actually admit the truth. Yeah, this is my favorite trade of the entire day. I love this. I love the fact that we are going to see a couple of these teams, the Rams included and the Seahawks reach their fullest form, like exactly the right time, barring any sort of crazy circumstantial changes with injuries. and I like that it's like explaining your faith in Sam Darnold because you're giving him more weapons.

32:18Jourdan Rodrigue:It is helping out JSN because you know that once you get to the playoffs, it's going to be total matchup football and defenses are going to try to figure out how to game plan your best player out of that game so then hit him with another guy. I loved this and I like it for the Saints because like you said, they got decent value out of it. We still don't know what they're getting for Trevor Penning who was famously a surprise first round pick that they traded extra picks up for and did not work out very similar to how Mickey Loomis traded up to first for Marcus Davenport. That's probably going to get released like overnight, just like slipped in to the mix.

32:56Jourdan Rodrigue:You know, it came in right under the wire. It was the last trade of the day. It's probably... You know, trying to hide it. It's probably not a ton. And we talked about it, me and Shook on Monday night too. like will the Chargers try to do something to help that offensive line after losing Joe Alt. So that, that makes sense on that perspective. I do wonder, you know, Cooper cup is not a long-term answer for the Seahawks. I'd be surprised if he was on the roster next season, they do have an out in that contract. I don't think it's been like a great fit. And I think he'll just play less now because if, if they're in that 12 personnel, you know, he, he's not going to be on the field all the time.

33:35And that's, that's not the worst thing. He could give you more maybe playing 20, 30 snaps. Tori Horton looked pretty good the other day. Like Seahawks.

33:44Jourdan Rodrigue:They're rolling. Jacoby Myers went to the Jaguars for two mid-round picks. A fourth and a sixth. And I just want to congratulate Jacoby Myers because I feel like no one else wanted to get traded more than Jacoby Myers. Kind of like Devontae Adams last year. Hopefully this works out better for Jacoby Myers. than Devontae Adams and his time with the Jets a year ago. But even then, I think he was just still happy to get out of there. Yeah, and it fills an immediate need for the Jags with... Why am I blanking on Trevor? I wanted to call him Trevor Lawrence, obviously. That's the quarterback, but...

34:22It's the commercials, which right now, they took a big gamble in the first place doing all the Trevor Lawrence, Travis Hunter commercials. Yes, that's what it is, exactly. It's a great commercial, but it was a risk and not working right now. Yeah. So obviously this will help out. And it's not like Travis Hunter was giving them a whole lot at the wide receiver position because they kept switching him back and forth between a couple snaps here on defense, a couple snaps here on offense. I just don't know if that is going to work for him going forward. Maybe next year, everything will slow down a little bit more and he can, he can contribute a little bit more.

35:01But when I was doing the international game that they were on. Gerald McCoy was just talking about Travis Hunter and how he really believed that he should only be playing defense on the defensive side of the ball. And then here and there having like a couple fun little packages for him on offense. But I like that Jacoby Myers now will be there. He's a wide receiver that will be able to help Trevor Lawrence now that Travis Hunter is not out there. And Deami Brown also got hurt in that game last week. Like that could have been part of it. Parker Washington was their clear number one. Brian Thomas Jr.

35:33got a little banged up in that game. Don't know if it was serious. Ian Rappaport does say, though, Travis Hunter will be back this season, probably pretty soon after he's eligible to get off IR, which is three more weeks, and that he'll still be playing wide receiver.

35:47Jourdan Rodrigue:Can I put my Galaxy Brain hat on for one? Please. Do you need help with it? It's heavy. It's so heavy. Oh my God. The big brain. It's a big brain. I don't know how your neck supports that. so I think that this is a move not just to like give them a little help production help in the short term I also think this is a move that sets in motion a more cohesive plan for Travis Hunter and this passing game in the long term after he is back from this injury because if you bring in Jacoby Myers one of the things that that tells me is you would like to have a Chris Godwin like player in the slot, which Travis Hunter can be, which Liam Cohen is trying to turn a passing volume and dictating his passing game through that player.

36:32Jourdan Rodrigue:And I do believe they think that player can be Travis Hunter. And so then you can have your perimeter threat still in Jacoby Myers. And it has been really weird with Brian Thomas Jr., whether it's they're running him in concepts he's clearly not comfortable with, or he's taking a step back. And then there's like weird trade rumors circulating about him that the team is like super quick to shut down. But like still reports surfacing about, well, we'll take a call, you know, didn't happen in the end. But yeah, it sounds like they were listening. Someone wanted to give them a so sauce gardener type offer.

37:07Jourdan Rodrigue:I'm just saying, I think that not only is this like, OK, we need to keep producing as an offense in the short term, but we also need to have a much better plan overall and reset what we want to do in the passing game and whether it is the reverse of what i said where you're seeing jacoby a little bit more inside and trevor travis hunter i just did it travis hunter on the perimeter just one of these players has to be the volume inside guy that's what liam cohen wants to do we've seen it work and so that's where i think this actually resets their passing layers in a big way i just don't think we're talking about it yet and maybe we will be after travis Hunter gets back.

37:46I don't know, though. Help me take this off. It does seem like a little... All right. Got it. Got it all. Like, there's a lot of repeating, maybe duplicative skill sets. I mean, Hunter and Jacoby Myers are different, but Jacoby Myers is a predominantly slot player throughout his career. And he plays plenty on the outside, too. But most of his snaps are in the slot. And Parker Washington was outstanding in the preseason and last week. And it's kind of a predominant slot type of player. Yeah. De 'Ami Brown is hurt. I think that maybe we'll find out is a bigger part of it. But Jacoby Myers is just a good player.

38:20The interesting thing to me...

38:21Jourdan Rodrigue:Just saying, keep an eye on it. Yeah. We'll wrap here. It's like Shahid and Myers are both on the last year of their contracts. So it's kind of tryout period for both of them. Because if you're going to give up two mid-round picks, sure, it would help if they help you in a playoff run now. But you would love that to be like a long-term thing. and I think Shahid would have a better chance for it to be a long-term thing, but who knows? Maybe Jacoby Myers ends up like re-signing with the Jaguars or something long-term as well. They want a Chris Godwin and a Mike Evans. However, it shakes out one or two.

38:57Jourdan Rodrigue:I believe one of those players is Travis Hunter and the other one is going to be Jacoby Myers after Travis Hunter gets back. Okay. However, whichever position it shakes out being slot permit. What's Brian Thomas Jr. then? He's Jalen McMillan? Gotta figure it out. man what emica abuka he's emica abuka what a step back though he took from last season like it's hard when a new coaching staff comes in and it just doesn't seem quite congruous to me yet and and it's i don't know that it's anyone's fault particularly i certainly don't want to bury the player he's so talented he really is so talented but it's like patrick clavon noticed it early in the season they're sending him on all these in breakers he doesn't feel comfortable with then He's running some in breakers, some outbreakers.

39:40Jourdan Rodrigue:Trevor Lawrence, I almost did it again. Trevor Lawrence is only targeting him on outbreaking routes. Like his, his heat chart for passing is crazy in terms of where Brian Thomas Jr. Is running and the only times he will throw him the ball. So I'm just saying there's, there's something going on that just is not quite matching yet. Hopefully it gets resolved, but you don't make a move like this just because people are injured. Travis Hunter is to Trevor Lawrence as Sam Darnold is to Sam Bradford. Very good. Right, right, right. I got there. I got there, man. Circle gets the score. Jacoby Myers, it's just like a comfortable pair of shoes.

40:19You know what I mean? Like, you know what you're going to get. And I have this feeling that he's some aged receiver because it was crazy that the Patriots let him walk. That contract aged so well. He only got$33 million over three years. and they wouldn't even pay him that much, or$39 million over three years. He's only 28 years old. So Jacoby Myers still, I think, has two or three more good years. But like Shahid in Seattle, they'll have decisions to make pretty soon. They'll get a little time to test drive it. Another couple minor deals before we say goodbye. I should have mentioned with the Cowboys, they also picked up Logan Wilson for a seventh, which is funny that they just gave up a pick for Logan Wilson, a guy who couldn't get on the field for the Bengals.

40:59but he probably will help that Cowboys linebacker group, which is not great.

41:03Jourdan Rodrigue:And then casualty of Al golden. Yes. And their, their defense for what it's worth, you know, they benched them and started playing two rookies. They've somehow gotten even worse since they benched them. And I always feel bad for Logan Wilson. Cause I'll always just remember that holding call he had that kind of swung the super bowl. That was maybe not a holding call. They called it pretty, totally forgot about pretty tight. I mean, the Rams would have had a couple more plays at the goal line, but you know, if they didn't call it, who knows? Joe Tryon-Shanka also to the Bears for a late round pick swap.

41:33So that's it for our trade deadline. How do you feel, Greg? I feel satisfied. So alive. How do you feel, by the way, as an Eagles fan?

41:44Jourdan Rodrigue:I should call it a live line, am I right? Hey, yes. How do you feel as an Eagles fan? To me, the Jalen Phillips trade was not as big as these Jets trade, but just as big or bigger than the Rashid Jahid and Jacoby Myers moves. You get a real deal young pass rush. Best pass rusher at the deadline. So, of course, Howie Roseman was like, ring, ring. Let me grab him. And I'm going to also help out my secondary as well. I love the move. It's aggressive. And that's what Howie style. I'm wondering who's going to get cut there. That someone can't make that team because they're adding Brandon Graham to the mix.

42:20They're adding Jalen Phillips to the mix.

42:21Jourdan Rodrigue:They only had 51 roster spots, though, right? They did clear some room in terms of space. Jalex Hunt is there. I mean, Nolan Smith is there, but he's not on the active roster right now. It's just they got a lot of players. They got a lot of cornerbacks. Michael Carter they brought in. Jair Alexander they brought in. Also, earlier in the year, Tank Bigsby they brought in. This is pretty good. You don't have to wait until the deadline to make the moves, but I'm glad that some teams did. So good luck to the Jets. We'll be talking about you a lot in the upcoming March and April. What else is new? Don't mess it up.

42:5727. Cowboys, we'll be talking about you a little less than we expected. I will fight them. Good fight. That's right. You were so high on the Cowboys in the offseason. I thought, well, that was before Micah Parsons got traded. But yes, I did take them over eight wins this year. And I guess Quinn and Williams gives us a chance. I'll tell you who's not giving up on 2025.

43:22Jourdan Rodrigue:Greg. Yeah. Jerry Jones is not giving up on 2025. Yes, he did. That's my point. The eternal optimist. All right. We will come back for the awards on Wednesday morning. Yes. Tomorrow. We'll be back tomorrow. We'll also do our TNF preview. Yes. You'll see that show in the feed. Preseason MVP. All the rest. We'll be wearing the same stuff. We will see you then. Bye.
