Bears can exploit Raiders’ lack of pass rush; Caleb Williams momentum. Packers are complete and Cowboys lack pass rush/cornerbacks. Vikings defense (DVOA #2) will control Steelers in an “ugly” game. Jaguars plus-3.5 vs injured 49ers; Jaguars defense/coordination and 49ers injuries.

Notable examples

Ashton Gentry’s 145 after-contact yards; Caleb’s eight-second flea flicker vs Dallas; Russell Wilson’s 454 yards then benching; Cowboys “no cornerbacks/no pass rush” and Mario Kart rainbow-strip analogy; possible Van Ginkle pick-six; Brian Thomas fantasy disappointment discussion.

2:11Welcome to NFL Daily, where it's okay to drink Guinness in the morning. I am Greg Rosenthal, and I'm here at Kennedy's in Dublin with my friends from the Ringer Fantasy Football Show, Danny Heifetz, Danny Kelly, and Craig Horobach, the secret weapon of the show. Look, you guys are like a one-to-one replacement for Cynthia Freeland on the usual pick show. Good to have you on. Absolutely. It's our honor. Thank you very much for having us. The Guinnesses are flowing, Greg. Thank you for having us.

2:43Danny Heifetz:We just combined are as smart as Cynthia. I don't know why I called Craig like the secret weapon right off the top, like sewing division between the three of you. Like, you know what you're doing. I hope Craig is cool with me because we just did the Ringer fantasy football show. Everyone should listen. It's one of the best podcasts, sports podcast point blank. And I joined them this week. And I just hope you didn't mind because I found myself. I was like staring at Craig just because of how we're seated, like in the eyes. It was like a lot of eye contact throughout the show between me and Craig.

3:16No, I loved it. Danny Kelly never looks at me. So that was really nice.

3:20Danny Heifetz:Thank you. All the YouTube comments are just everyone's like, wow, Craig's the hot one. And DK are like, yeah, cool, cool, cool, cool. We've recently learned the term mogging. Yeah, we're getting mogged. What is that? No. Mogging is when you have one friend who's way hotter than your other friends, and all the photos, you're getting mogged because no one's looking at you in the photos. Like, if you have a photo of Craig, you can't put it on your hinge because then everyone's like, oh, I'm in the hand. Okay, relax. We can move on. He's married, everyone. Calm down. It's a very, like, how do you do fellow kids moment for me?

3:47So we are here, and I mentioned Guinness. Shout out to Robert, the proprietor of Kennedy's. Not Robert Kennedy. Not Robert Kennedy. We got here a little before 1030 in the morning. The place was locked up at this point because the Ringer Fantasy Football Show shut it down to begin with. We never left. As I walk up, like Steelers fans are waiting in line to get in. One of them asked me if my black and yellow shoes were bought purposefully for the Steelers. No, they're not. I'm actually anti-Steelers this week, at least in terms of picking the Vikings. But this place started filling up pretty early, and it's rocking out there at noon.

4:31The vibes are high.

4:32Danny Heifetz:The Ryder Cup, people are going crazy for the Ryder Cup right now. And then also just obviously the game. I actually am shocked just being in Dublin. I actually can't believe how many Steelers fans are here. There are more Steelers fans than regular people who live in Dublin, I think. Yeah, on my travels over here, I saw zero Minnesota Vikings fans. My flight was 80 % people wearing Steelers gear, zero Vikings fans. It has a Super Bowl feel and a Super Bowl in a smaller city like New Orleans where in London, it's great, but it's still London. There's a million bars. Here, there's Steelers everywhere.

5:11And this is a Steelers bar, so it's self-selecting. But when I got out at my hotel, there were 20 Steelers fans just out and about. I have a friend from work who said they went to a bar the other night, and Jason Kelsey is just by himself at the bar drinking a beer. They're like, hey, Jason Kelsey. And I'd seen, like, Ike Taylor walking around, and the whole thing, it feels awesome, honestly. It feels like sort of like a football in the round. We're going to get to the picks. We're just kind of trying to set the scene. Do you have any other Dublin takes? I know we're pretty soon off the plane.

5:41Oh, no. I mean, I think we all got to experience the Ireland, the real Ireland Guinness taste test last night, which is great. It does taste better here in Ireland. I think we can all attest to that. But, yeah, the vibes are amazing. The vibes are really good. Like you said, it kind of does have the Super Bowl feel, where it's the couple days leading up to the Super Bowl when you're in that town are just the vibes, like party vibes. It's everyone's having a good time. You know, even if you see people from other teams, you're ribbing each other or whatever. And so, yeah, it's really good. But I haven't seen any Vikings fans yet.

6:11I did see one, so I do want to defend. And we all screamed at him.

6:16Danny Heifetz:Get out of here. I really can't stress how many Steelers fans are here. Like, the last, we went to the Chiefs by the three-peat with the Super Bowl. I think a lot of the Chiefs fans who wanted to go to a Super Bowl and could afford it had already done it. There are so many, like, hard to describe how many more Steelers fans are here now than there were Chiefs fans for the last Super Bowl that I saw walking around New Orleans. It's not even close. It's basically all terrible towels and Gavin for president signs. I'm just seeing that. Which is not Will Gavin, who will be hosting, by the way, the game.

6:44If you happen to be overseas and listening on the radio, I will be doing the game with Will Gavin on TalkSport Radio. So check that out. We're going to get to the picks. Weekly pick show. Cynthia and I struggled last week. Because you guys are here, I'm not going to bore you and go over what our picks were that we were right and wrong about last week. Although I did have the worst beat of the year in that Rams game. We had that too. I wonder if they just missed the kick. So we'll go over all the records next week when we have Cynthia back on. But I do have her picks because I know the fans are interested in what her computer model has to say.

7:18So I'll sprinkle those in because we agree on a couple. The way I decided to do it is I still have my usual three picks and you guys have one pick each, like your favorite pick. Hopefully we have some differences here. Let's start with Danny Heifetz.

7:33Danny Heifetz:This is really boring, but I'm doing the Chargers, giving six and a half to the Giants. I'm sorry. I know that's really boring. This is emotional hedging. This is so lame. Dude, I'm a Giants fan. I believe in Jackson Dart, but this is a really hard way to start, man. The Chargers are 3-0, first time since 2002, and the defense with Jesse Minner, the defensive coordinator, is doing an unbelievable. Greg is just shaking his head like pathetic. I am because you are one of my favorite hosts in all of podcasting. I'm a huge fan. You have been on the show before, so at least it's not your first time.

8:04But to come on this show and make some argument because you're in your feelings about the Giants and you want to feel good if they don't cover is just like how dare you.

8:15Danny Heifetz:To be clear, I'm setting myself up. The Giants can lose by like four and then I miss the bet and the Giants still lose the game. That's the worst feeling in sports. Yeah, I know. I just think, I know, but fundamentally it's just, I think basically we don't. Hyvius is in his hedging era, you know? He really is. Travis Hunter, now this. I feel like mentally we're still not counting Herbert like he's as good as Josh or Lamar because we haven't seen it in the playoffs. But I would think this season, I don't think it's controversial to say Herbert's playing that well, right? No, it's not. It's Herbert playing versus a rookie quarterback making his first career start.

8:47Danny Heifetz:If it was week one, we wouldn't blink about pulling Traeger on a touchdown favorite. it. The flip side is the Chargers defense is the best defense in the NFL and success rate this season. So I'm like, what? I don't like, am I really? I know. I do think you're a little crazy. I'm on the Giants on this side. I actually thought about going Giants is one of my three favorite picks that felt a little too crazy for me. But if I had to pick, I'm on the Giants because week one, you're right. But Russell Wilson would have been starting. And maybe I'm crazy. And we talked about it on your show. I think Jackson Dart will be an upgrade overall from Russell Wilson.

9:19I mean, And he's certainly going to elevate. When you look at the Russell Wilson offense, like we've talked about this for years. It's basically like deep shots to the sideline or dump offs. And Jackson, there's nothing in the middle. Jackson Dart can come in, open up the entire middle of the field. I think he's really confident throwing down the seams. That was one of the things that you notice about his college tape is like the first off, pushing the ball down the field aggressively. Second of all, he's good against pressure. And that was like one of the main selling points, I think, with him coming out of the college, because obviously, you know, playing in that offense.

9:48He takes hits. He's got a little bit of a Ryan Tannehill to where he just stands there and gets totally blasted. He's willing to stare down the gun barrel. So, yeah.

9:57Danny Heifetz:Greg's so disappointed when he keeps looking. I actually think what Heifetz did is rational. I would pick the Chargers in this one, too. It's his first start versus Herbert. Gambling is not about being rational. It's the biggest quarterback to spirit of the week, and it's a very complicated defense that he's facing. I only feel comfortable being disappointed because I care. because I think, and maybe this is, you know, me trying to just, like, you know, sun you here. You know, that, like, the worst feeling doing this, working in this business is to pick against your own team, and then you're watching Jackson Dart in what's going to be a seminal moment of his career, maybe of Brian Dable's career, of the Giants, and he plays his ass off.

10:39Maybe he loses a close game. Maybe he goes out there and wins the game, And in that moment of total Giants fan ecstasy, and you've been wanting those moments, you have to think in that moment, oh, man, I went Chargers. I lost my bag. Yeah, it's like I went Chargers minus six. This is so good because I won't feel that way at all. The intro? Okay.

10:59Danny Heifetz:I bet on the Patriots to beat the Giants in both Super Bowls because I figured that I'll be a python. And it didn't hurt that at all? No. Maybe we're wired differently because I would always be annoyed. Just pick what you want to happen anyways. No! That's spoken like a Patriots fan. I know you're like a Republican. You're like someone who lived a charmed life. I'm now shifting back towards Heifetz because I do believe in the emotional head. How many championships did you see to your professional teams in the 21st century? 14? A lot of championships. Every other year? The first Super Bowl I ever went to cover was the Giants beating the Patriots in their first Super Bowl, ending the undefeated season.

11:38It actually was better, I think, in person. You didn't realize how devastating a moment that was until you started seeing the highlights and everything. But 3-3 in person as a fan for the Patriots. But yeah, I hear what you're saying. Maybe it is Patriots' privilege. Is 3-3 supposed to make us feel bad? He said 3-3.

11:57Danny Heifetz:I only saw three Super Bowl wins in person. I've only been to six Super Bowls. Only six Super Bowls. I want to interject real quick, though, with Heifetz. I know, he's right. I'm a coward. No, here's the deal. It's a long-time standing joke between Heifetz and I. I've worked with Heifetz since 2016, right? In all that time, I think he's rooted for his team to win, like, one game. 2022. The one playoff game. Otherwise, he's like, I want him to lose, get a better draft pick. Like, he's never gotten to root for his team. The Giants are. Why are you so afraid to, like, finally jump on the bandwagon?

12:29Danny Heifetz:I just, they're throwing dart. Like, he's rooting for them to lose. Emotionally. I guess I'm like. But what Greg was saying is, like. Just stay away, though. Just like you could have picked 15 different games. Literally, we're picking one game. Do you feel that strongly over all the other games? That's fair. And yet here I am. And I'm excited. I am on record now saying that I think Brian Dable is going to be rejuvenated. He's building the offense around him. The Chargers haven't seen it. I did think the offensive line for the Chargers did not play that well last week. Granted, against Denver, but Herbert under a lot of pressure and that this front will make it a fun game.

13:05So I think it'll be fun. All right, I'm going to stay with the Jets. We'll go back and forth between you guys and me. And Cynthia is on the same side of me. We don't usually have the same picks, but we picked separately this week. We are both on the Jets plus two and a half in Miami. And I could break down how the Dolphins are investing all this money in the pass rush, and they're not getting anything up front. And actually the Jets offensive line is where their strength is. I could get into how Tua at the end of games is just fritzing out. And weirdly, TNF, I think we'll look back on as a high point.

13:43But it's really more based on vibes for me. That I think the Jets right now are a better organization than the Dolphins, which seems crazy to say. And that the press conferences since the Dolphins won that game have been so concerning and some of the reporting coming out that I actually think, even though it was close and from the outside, everyone was like, oh, good try, Miami, you got close. Like, the aftermath of that game, it seems like everyone is pulling in different directions, and there's source-offs, and Tua is, like, yelling at the press. Like, I think he might have taken a shot at Ben Solak, even though the question— Really?

14:22Can you guys see this? No, I missed this. What did he say? Our buddy Ben? How dare him. Okay, so they asked him a question, how Cam Newton criticized Tua Tungavailoa specifically. And he did mention the name Cam in his answer. But it was almost like he had a pre-planned answer for this. And he went through and his answer was like, it's really easy to say if you haven't played and that you're sitting there with a clicker, what's right to do. And I'm thinking like there was a few people like that, but I feel like Solak was the most prominent. Maybe he was talking about it.

14:56Danny Heifetz:I'm almost positive Cam played too. That's what I mean. And so he had this answer, and he's talking about the Solacks and some of the other people that are killing his decision-making. So it's more of a vibe off for me. I just think this is the Jets' chance to go win a game. Miami shouldn't be favored against anybody, to be honest. Who's the starting quarterback this week? It's looking like it's going to be Fields. Fields practiced fully. As of this taping, Aaron Glenn did not answer clearly. They're being cagey about it, right? Yeah. I think that's him trying to make them prep for two. I don't know that it's a huge difference in terms of who I think would win the game.

15:32Like, the approach would be different. But either way, I would like the Jets' chances. I think I like this, too. I had this in mind. It wasn't one of my picks, but I thought about it. And it's the same deal. With Tua, for the last few years, the offense was very specific. I even make jokes sometimes like Tua is the MVP, actually, because the offense completely falls apart and can't do anything. It's sarcastic.

15:57Danny Heifetz:In terms of, like, net value loss. To be clear, I'm being sarcastic, but, like, when Tua's in there, the offense that they have designed right now is that he's the only one that can make it work. But now, and it's so predicated on hitting his back foot, getting the ball out. Like, quick reactions, decisive throws over the middle of the field, those kind of things. Now teams are starting to figure out how to kind of, like, muddy what he's seeing over the middle of the field, not let him get rid of the ball so quickly. And after, like, one second, he can't do anything. It also feels like the opposite now where I almost think if you could get anybody else in this offense, I'm like, if you could just get Mack.

16:32Well, not Zach Wilson. I'm like, if you could get Mack Jones in there, I think this Dolphins offense could be good. Tua is, once again, he has a noodle arm. Like, he's not able to make these throws down the field anymore. Like, the velocity on the football is gone. Tyreek is, once again, back to fielding punts down the field. He turns around and waits for the ball. It's unbelievable.

16:50Danny Heifetz:It really does look like special teams. I will say, you're right. The thing about Tua is the only one who can make the offense work. I think it's the same way like I'm the only one who can find stuff that I lose in my apartment because that's not a good system. It's a mess, and it's a really bad system, and I'm the only one who can find it because it's catered to me. And the Dolphins catered. This system just works for him with a bad O-line and the fastest receivers in the NFL. And when they were at 100th percentile speed and agility from Tyreek, suddenly you're like, oh, the whole thing falls apart.

17:18Danny Heifetz:That's a bad system. And we bagged on the Dolphins a decent amount on our previous show, so I don't want to repeat myself. but there was this segment of Tom Pelissero in his car on the Rich Eisen show where he kind of went through the limitations that Tua constricts on a play caller and why it makes it so tough. And I'm like, are the Dolphins coaches or coach burying Tua? Because all respect to Tom Pelissero, he's not coming up with these takes. That's a bad sign. And then Tua was so unhappy in that press conference. He is reading all the comments. And one of the questions they asked to him was, what's the difference between you and you back in college?

17:57He's like, well, you know, the surgery is on my ankle. You know, I'm just not I just don't move as well. I'm like, this this sucks. I'm going. I was like, the Jets actually aren't that good at the defense. And it could be kind of a sneaky, fun fantasy game where they score a lot of points. But I ultimately think the Jets make enough winning makes everything better.

18:15Danny Heifetz:Losing makes everything worse. And the Jets have a newer voice. But McDaniel, it's like he's he's done because he got to with a contract. He's going to be the one kicked out. Chris Cruz has been there 25 years. When you're basing a selection on vibes and you pick the Jets, you know it's bad. That's why he's the secret weapon. All right, let's go to Craig's pick. I'm taking the Bears plus one against the Raiders. Interesting. I like it. This game's in Vegas. I think Vegas is a little bit of a disaster right now. I think it's not working early on. They cannot run the ball. Ashton Gentry has 144 rushing yards.

Read the full transcript

18:48145 of them come after contact, which doesn't make any sense. Gino has been turning over the ball a ton. And I do think what we saw to Caleb, albeit it was against Dallas, and Dallas is making everybody look good right now, I think Caleb is a momentum quarterback. I think he is somebody where once things start clicking, I think things will continue that way. I think he's going to have, like, a positive snowball effect to his game. And I think the Raiders' defense is a perfect follow-up to Dallas. And them getting points, I was a little surprised at that, to be honest. And I believe in Ben Johnson scheming up all these open wide receivers, and I think Caleb can hit them.

19:20I'm not necessarily the biggest Caleb guy in the world. However, I do think what I saw last week against Dallas is replicable against Vegas. I agree. I think Bears against a team that doesn't have a good pass rush is a great recipe because some of those plays last week with Caleb, he just had all the time in the world for someone to uncover. They ran an eight-second flea flicker. And that showed off. The highest flea flicker you've ever seen.

19:47Danny Heifetz:Slow motion. And he made a couple plays. There was one where the pressure got to him right away, where just his instincts, and that's where I agree with you, that he can be a confidence player when it starts rolling downhill. And I think the Raiders will give him that confidence because they don't have a pass rush. The Lions really didn't have that much of a pass rush in week two against him. Last week, same thing. I do want to ask you, Craig, though, because you were going to ask about Gentry. I thought on your show, what is your feeling about Gentry right now? Well, I think the vibes around him are actually pretty bad.

20:20And it's odd because I think when the ball is in his hands, he looks great. But I think when the ball is not in his hands and he's on the field, things are weird. I think the pass protection stuff with him is a little odd considering that was what we thought was a strength coming out of college, or at least he was capable. Well, they're not even using him in, like, the two-minute drill. No, Dylan – I still don't know how to say his name. Lowby. Lowby. Lowby. Lowby is playing in the two-minute drill against the guy that took six overall in the draft. I think that's very bizarre. Lawey didn't even play last year.

20:47I just think it's a bad sign that there's already – there's like every press conference now with him is about like, hey, Ryan Clark said this thing about you. Like, how do you feel about that? And he's like, well, I'm not trying to like listen to anybody in the media. I'm just trying to like focus on my game. And they're not giving him that many touches. I think as a talent on the field, he's great. And I think it's just a sign generally that like if you're a bad team and you have a bad offensive line, you should not be drafting a running back. They're a terrible offensive line. I'm with you. He made a couple people miss last week.

21:14He broke yards after contract. He's awesome with the ball in his hand. He's a little bit, and I heard you guys talking about this with Derrick Henry, that if he doesn't get a good runway, he'll kind of stop his feet and then get toppled over. What did you guys get? Like the Saddam. Derrick Henry getting tackled at the line of scrimmage

21:34Danny Heifetz:looks like the statue of Saddam falling over. If he gets hit before the line of scrimmage, he just topples his statue in his square. It's like his ankles are tied. He's just falling over. completely different body type, but I think Jenty has a little bit of that too and they are right now, along with the Bengals. I thought you meant body type of Saddam. No, I mean... Actually, he was low to the ground and kind of like thick in the way. I think he would be a decent running back. Saddam Hussein. It's hard to find in the home. Jenty's vision's been like a little off here and there where there has been a cutback lane to hit.

22:12But last week, actually, I thought he ran well and had a good couple cutback. So I'm with you. Saddam was 6 '2". Oh, he was a unit. Get his name out of your mouth. Here's one thing that I want to say about. We got a 40 time? We were talking about vibes. Greg's like, I'm going to get fired. The Guinness is showing off here. One and a half. Guinness is that's all it takes. We were talking about vibes in the last game. This game, I think the Raiders vibes, after having the best offseason of any team, like in terms of vibes, like raising the floor. We got adults in charge now. Like they got Jenty.

22:44They have this exciting new thing. It feels weird. The vibes are atrocious right now. And you know who the scapegoat is right now? Tom Brady. Brennan Carroll. Pete Carroll's son. Why? Who is the offensive line coach. And there's no. That is. The fans are turning on Brennan. Honestly, that's fair because they have almost the exact same offensive line as the previous two seasons, especially last year. And they played like they punched above their weight last year where everyone was like, oh, wow, they're greater than the sum of their parts offensive line. Now it's like Colton Miller and four negatives.

23:16So I'm with it. And they moved guys around off their original positions to try and find the best five. And so now there is no yardage available for Ashley Jardim. I think Geno's played pretty well except for that Chargers game, which was his worst start since getting the starting job in Seattle. I know not many people watch that Washington game, but he was under siege. And actually, I thought played pretty well overall.

27:49and a half i think the gap between the packers and this cowboys team without cd lamb and the two offensive linemen is as big as bill saints like i'm not saying the line needs to be that big because tack prescott's involved and like but it could be double digit points and i still would be into that like if you wanted to move the line like i feel like the over under on packers scoring is 35. This was going to be my pick, too. I can come up with another one, but I like this one a lot, too. The Packers have one of the best defense. They have the number one rated defense in DVOA, and they're good on offense.

28:30They are just such a complete team. There was a reason people were talking about them before this last week against the Browns where they kind of collapsed as potentially going undefeated, Super Bowl-type team. The vibes are incredible. They're very good on both sides of the ball. They're the type of team that can beat you in so many different ways, to um whether it's jordan love whether it's the pass rush whether it's you know the run game i think it all makes sense and with a very injured pack uh cowboys team that's an easy pick i think there's a lot of things in retrospect that look really good now for green bay like now that win against detroit everybody after that game was like well detroit's a different team now maybe they're not as good now that we've seen detroit rebound a little bit and we're actually like oh detroit might be one of the best teams in the nfc again packers winning 27 13 in that game looks really good and even I mean this loss to the Browns I agree with you Greg that it's a perfect timing for the for the Packers to then come in and kick the out of the Cowboys in this game terrible luck for the Cowboys to face the Packers after this loss but also the Browns defense once when we look back on the season in retrospect that 10-13 loss we're going to say the Browns defense actually might be one of the best defense in the league again so I think you can look at every game the Packers have played this season and they look even better now even though it's

29:36Danny Heifetz:only been three weeks I mean also when was the last time the Packers played it was less than the Cowboys gave the Packers a competitive game. That's fair. Was it the Dez Coddick game? That was like 10 years ago. I mean, number one, I don't know if we even want to go into the analogy we have for the Cowboys defense. I feel like this is a family-friendly show. Yeah, yeah. But. The Mario Kart rainbow strip, perhaps. The Mario, yeah. That's kid-friendly. Yeah. You ever play Mario Kart? The rainbow turbo strip? You hit that, you go 10 times as fast. That is the Cowboys defense this year for other offenses.

30:05Danny Heifetz:They have no pass rush and they have no cornerbacks. That's a pretty bad combo. As we just said on our show, Russell Wilson threw for 454 yards, brought him to overtime, and then got benched. Second most of his career. Like Caleb Williams just had the best game of his career against Matt Eberflus, the Cowboys. He's a defensive coordinator. Who should have known Caleb better than anyone? They have no cornerbacks. I don't care if Trevon Diggs and Duran Planned end up playing in this game. They're not healthy. The Cowboys literally are running out of cornerbacks. They have no pass rushers. Who are the Cowboys' best three players in this game?

30:30Danny Heifetz:Dak Prescott? Tyler Smith? Who's playing in this game? George Pickens. who this week it's like, it's George Pickens time. We were Pickens. Exactly. No, I think this is smart. It's that every week. If you ask George Pickens, hey, you could lose by 20, but you have 180 yards and two touchdowns, or you win by a point and don't catch a pass, what happens? What does he pick? I think it's obvious. Guaranteed. I think Dak is top five quarterbacks in the league right now. So I am fascinated to see that matchup. Jeff Halfley is very creative, and I think they're going to come up with special ways to get Micah Parsons in one-on-one situations with some of these backups on the inside.

31:12Which one? There's multiple. Right, like Cooper Beebe's out and Tyler Booker's out. And so Tack Prescott's one of the few quarterbacks, even shorthanded, that I think could make this entertaining to the point that it's 40 to 25. But I just think on the other side, they're just not going to be able to keep up ultimately.

31:30Danny Heifetz:Green Bay, first two weeks of the season, small sample, but they were pushing the ball downfield as much as anyone, and they didn't do that against the Browns. but the Cowboys defense is allowing nine yards per attempt. First down needs 10. They're allowing nine yards. Is that right? It can't be overstated that Russell Wilson threw for 450 yards against the Cowboys the second most of his career, and then seven days later was benched. That bought him one week. Hit the goalpost twice in a row. That's the ultimate sign of how bad this Cowboys defense is. Also, the matchup of LeFleur versus Eberflus, like Bears fans and Packers fans can remember very well.

32:04And Matt Eberfluss is just running out the same old stuff. Like, you can give him, like, the really expensive shave and the new haircut, but, like, he's still running out that, like, 1995 defense.

32:15Danny Heifetz:Well, it's the same problem as the last Cowboys defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer, who was running things that stopped working three years earlier. He brought them back three years later. It's the theme of the Cowboys. Their ideas are from 30 years ago. Jerry Jones, older than Joe Biden. It's, like, that logic all the way down. I'm just saying, like, everyone is out of date with the ideas. I'm really big on the Packers. We are going to do a power rank-like segment on tomorrow's show with Michael McQuaid of Pro Football Ireland. And look, the Packers are going to be very high there. Okay, so we all agree on the Packers.

32:47DK, I'm making you pivot now. Wait, so can we talk about the game that's happening in Ireland? Yeah, that's good. It's a good idea. I'm going to go against my two colleagues here. We actually picked the Steelers when we do our picks in this game, but I want to pick the Vikings in this one. I think the – so what is the line? Two and a half. It's up to two and a half. Vikings are giving two and a half. The public are on the Vikings as well. I just think the Vikings' defense is one of the best defenses in the NFL. Number two in defensive DVOA, they have an excellent pass rush. As you know, Brian Flores likes to mix things up in the blitz packages.

33:21They're blitzing a ton, just making lives difficult for opposing quarterbacks. And we have on recent history of him doing that against Aaron Rodgers. So I think this is going to be an ugly game, a back-and-forth game, lots of turnovers. But ultimately, I think the Vikings' defense is going to be the difference.

33:38Danny Heifetz:It makes sense on paper. I mean, at the end of the day, the Vikings are coming off a 48-10 win. But I just overall – in theory, it's like the Steelers, all they do is let teams move the ball on them. But I'm like, at the end of the day, I don't think in a game where everyone's going to Europe, Carson Wentz is going to move the ball on the Steelers' defense consistently. And it's funny because it's cliche, but it's true. The Mike Tomlin games, these ugly, muck-em-up games, kind of like how the Steelers don't play normal games. I don't think the Aaron Rodgers-Tomlin teams play normal games. And I do think this is going to be close in the fourth quarter, and it's going to be Carson Wentz versus Aaron Rodgers.

34:07And Carson Wentz versus T.J. Watt and Nate Herbig and Cam Hayward. The Steelers have playmakers. And you got Harmon back. They should get better on defense, and they showed signs last week. And don't forget, this game is 80 % to 90 % Steelers fans. The people in the actual stadium. They're going to play renegade. People are going to go crazy. Okay, so to me it feels a little bit like one of those games where a few big momentum-shifting defensive plays or special teams plays are going to be like... Like hypothetically, Andrew Van Ginkle

34:35Danny Heifetz:jumping a screen for a pick-six? Things like that. And I have more faith in the Vikings' defense to do that. I can imagine Carson Wentz on one play, like seeing his first reads not open. Herbig is screaming around the left side. So he panics. He starts running the other way. And like Cam Hayward just blasts him. The ball flies up. And they like return it for like a fumble return by Patrick Queen, and that's the big play. Because my head agrees with you, but there is something in the air here. You've got Dan Rooney looking down on him, the ambassador. You're not going to let the Steelers lose. Can I just make one caveat?

35:12If Carson Wentz tries to throw a pass with his left hand, the bet's off. We need a cash-out option.

35:19Danny Heifetz:To your point, I think this is a game that not only the Steelers are losing at halftime, I think they're losing through three quarters. Coaching, I think, will dominate for three quarters. The fourth quarter, it's going to be the players. Rodgers versus Wentz. Rodgers and Watt versus Wentz. And I'm like, in the fourth quarter in that moment, as long as it's a one-score game, I just think they're going to pull it out. How much were you rooting for Rodgers to stay healthy last week? Because, my Lord, if he had gotten hurt, Wentz versus Rudolph. And we were here. Oh, man. It's a good call. I was torn because it was the Patriots going against them.

35:46But I also wanted, like, the 2-1 matchup versus 2-1. It would have been Mason Rudolph versus Carson Wentz, which just like is not fun. Not fun. We don't want to send an eight hour flight to watch Mason Rudolph. Good Lord. All right. I'm with you on that one. All right. Let's wrap my picks. So Cynthia's third pick, by the way, the Washington commanders, who we were both on last week and they did wind up covering. She has them as a road favorite in Atlanta. It's a one and a half point favorite. Their defense has been a lot better this year. I think it slipped a little under the radar. It has been against bad opponents, but you got like Dorrance Armstrong leading the league in pressures and their team, I think, leading the league in pressure rate.

36:30And it's going up against the Falcons that has a lot of problems. My final pick, though, is a little spicier. I like the Jags plus three and a half. Yeah. In San Francisco, I actually kind of like them to go and just win this game straight up. You like their defense a lot, right? Into that. Yeah. Yeah, they have really good players. And Campanile, you didn't know anything about him. He's the defensive coordinator coming into this. But he came from Green Bay. And they're just in that new world where they're showing all the disguises. And it seems like it's working. And Trayvon Walker is a lot better than he used to be.

37:05And Heinz Allen is really good. And Jordan Lewis is like another ex-cowboy defender that's playing much better away. Dorrance Armstrong is another one that I just mentioned. Like, he's playing well. I just think that 49ers have a lot of injuries. and they've been skating by a little bit with these lucky games. Trayvon Walker working out is funny. I feel like he was considered such a bust for so long. Well, I think it's just a comparison. It's not like he's been bad. He just, Aiden Hutchinson, it was the choice between him and Aiden Hutchinson, right? And Hutchinson. And that still looks bad, but if Walker was the seventh pick in the draft, he'd be like, great.

37:38Right. He's a plus starter.

37:39Danny Heifetz:Totally. Expectations minus reality. He's like Andrew Wiggins. It's like what Andrew Wiggins worked out is he's actually like a very solid role player, but he was pegged as like Canadian Michael Jordan. And, you know, he obviously wasn't that. To your point about the coordinator thing, I don't know if you feel this way. I think one of the hardest parts of the job is not just offense, but defense trying to figure out which coordinators are going to work out new spots because you can find the system, but it's not just bringing a system. It's are you able to coach it and teach it to the players? Like that's completely different than just knowing a system yourself.

38:06Danny Heifetz:And you don't know, how do you know if someone's a good teacher or not? It's just hard to figure out, but you're right. Like the Jags defense, there is a lot of talent on that, that has been used poorly. So I do think that raising the floor. And again, whatever the quarterback situation ends up being for the Niners this week, they have a lot of holes, too. It sounds like it's Purdy. As we're taping this, hopefully Pearsall gets back at practice. He finished out last week's game, so I would think he'd be okay. And they get a couple players back. Demarcus Robinson is off suspension. But on defense, they're a little banged up there.

38:38And in general, I just feel like three and a half points is what does it. They call the extra half point the hook. And, like, that does hook me. I think they've been slightly better. If you look at overall team DVOA, this is actually a really good game. It's the number nine team in the league, the 49ers, versus the number 10 team in the league. And that's what the Jaguars have looked like to my eye. Like, they kind of look like a six seed to me. And Trevor Lawrence is still missing a lot of throws, and they're figuring out Hunter, but they looked well coached. We just talked about, like, the Raiders and Brendan Carroll.

39:08Like, their offensive line is moving people. They're protecting Lawrence. Like, the plays seem like they make sense to me. Devin Lloyd is, like, playing really well. I just kind of like them.

39:17Danny Heifetz:What do you make of Lawrence and Brian Thomas? That's annoying. Well, yeah, because I was going to say, from a fantasy point of view, which is, like, what we focus on primarily, it's like the Jags have been a mess just from a fantasy point of view. Brian Thomas, one of the biggest disappointments so far this year. If you have to create the blame pie chart for Brian Thomas, who absorbs most of the responsibility? It seems like it's mostly Brian Thomas, but maybe them, Jordan Rodrigue talked about it on our show this week, a little bit Liam Cohen trying to fit him into some prototype that he's not, you know, like this outside, like Cooper Cup type Robert Woods receiver.

39:57Like that's not who he is, and maybe he's just like thinking too much. But going back to training camp, apparently he was having all these drops and all these struggles. and him being in his... It's kind of like the yips or something. But he's open. Yeah. And like, Deami Brown's open, although he might be hurt for this game. Like, Brenton Strange is good. Like, Parker Washington's open. Parker Washington is doing stuff, yeah.

40:18Danny Heifetz:I had an intrusive thought last week. I was like, just watching the game, I'm like, Parker Washington's the best receiver on this team. He looked good last year, too. I don't believe that, but he thought it. So I am buying the Jaguars. The three and a half points is enough. We did every one, right? We did every pick. We got through all of Cynthia's picks. Again, she has the Jets and the Packers. Jets plus 2.5. I am the Packers minus 7 along with Cynthia, so we agree there. We have the same picks. She has the Commanders minus 1.5. I also threw in the Jaguars plus 3.5. DK, you went with the Vikings.

40:51I like that our listeners are just getting free picks. This feels like you ever listen to those shows on the radio on, like, 830 in the morning on, like, 8. They're still on in L.A., like, when I'm on my way to work, like, on AM Ready, where they're like, I'll give you one pick now, and you call 1-800-9. Who is paying for what they're calling the 1-800 line for the other good picks, but the free picks are still out. Where do you think I got my Chargers pick? I just mean you could have picked any other game. Our real picks. That's what the guy on the phone said. Our real picks are on our Patreon, so if you want to subscribe to that, you can hear our actual picks.

41:26Yes, listen to the Ringer fantasy football show. It's not just fantasy football. In the offseason, it's a lot of draft. But even during the season, it's very much not just fantasy football. They have some of the best chemistry. Danny is an outstanding host. Just, like, the vibes are excellent. Very good hang. Very good listen. Check it out. And, yeah, we're going to have some fun out in the city. Hopefully. I don't know. We'll see you before the game. Of course they're coming to us to the Book of Kells. That's right. We are going to the Book of Kells on Saturday afternoon. Oh, you double booked.

42:02You forgot about that. No, no, I didn't. Double booked of Kelsus. Oh. Oh, wow. I didn't know anything about this, but I am a dork and would have probably spent my Saturday anyways, like, walking around Dublin and going to, like, old bookstores. And this is, like.

42:16Danny Heifetz:I was like, do you want to do any tourist stuff with us? You were like, no. And I was like, it's an old book. He was like, sign me up. Hold on. This book is so old. It's so old. How old is it? Yeah. It's like. This thing's 1 ,000 years old. It's like 1 ,500 years old. 800. Something like that. 800. A.D. AD. So we're going to do that. We're going to finish these Guinnesses in front of me, and you will hear me next in the feed. We have an extra show this week. I mentioned it earlier. It's Michael McQuaid from the Pro Football Ireland. He is like the Rich Eisen of Ireland. He will love this compliment.

42:51He is just dominating all of his competitors and just, frankly, squashing them out as he tries to just become an international superstar. So he's on the show. We're going to talk about football interest in Ireland. We're going to do a little Power Bowl. We'll talk about this game. That's going to come up, a bonus show on Saturday. It's just been a joy to have you guys on. We will see you on Saturday on NFL Daily.
