In short

Episode topic: “Best Guest Moments 2025 Part 1,” featuring highlights with Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia and filmmaker Ryan Coogler (plus brief guest banter with Theo Von and Ryan Seacrest as host).

Guest backgrounds

  • Diego Pavia: Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback from Albuquerque, New Mexico; discussed his path through Juco and being doubted as “washed,” then leading Vanderbilt’s success.
  • Ryan Coogler: director/writer of Black Panther and Creed; cited NAACP Image Awards and major nominations; played football in college (Sacramento State) and transitioned to film after an injury and creative writing encouragement.

Key claims

  • Pavia: expectations are to win a national championship; stay level-headed by not reading press and using yoga/grounding; focus on one game at a time; “dominant” Vanderbilt football.
  • Coogler: football is fleeting; he pursued film after a broken zygomatic arch; Sinners is a fast, genre-bending horror/mystery with blues/church themes and paranoia; filmmaking timelines can be 2–4 years, with Sinners made in about one year.

Notable examples

Pavia described a late-game sequence where a play changed to him, a reviewed Hail Mary touchdown/OT moment, and a season run including wins over Alabama (first time in forever) and other ranked opponents. Coogler discussed Sinners’ IMAX + Ultra Panavision lens combination and named prior works (Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther).

3:26Shannon Sharpe:best start in 80 years. Better yet, three wins have come against AP top 25 teams, the first time in Vandy history, and here he is, a large part of that, the reason why the Vanderbilt Commodores have had success, the quarterback, Diego Pavia. Diego, what's going on, bro?

3:47Shannon Sharpe:You're muted. My bad, my bad. What's up, y 'all? I appreciate y 'all having me. I got some people in the background, though, that want to say What's up? All right, what's up? Who you got? Hey, what's up? Hey, that's what's up. How you doing, man? Yo, yo. Hey, Chad. Hey. Hey, Chad. Hey, I need some feet. I need some feet drills, Chad.

4:10Shannon Sharpe:Yo, yo, OG. Well, bro, we appreciate you up. After a big win like that, we know normally you'd be out, probably celebrate with the boys. But we appreciate you giving us some of your time. Well, honey, you know the party don't start till after 12. So we're all good. OK, that's what's up, dude. That's what's up. You can't be there when the party starts. You got to walk in and let them know you there. D.P. Now we're thinking alike, huh? When this season, look, after last year, what you were able to do, you beat Alabama for the first time in forever. And so now you set expectations. Coming into this season, what were the expectations for you and this ball club?

4:48Well, we set out in January that we want to win the national championship. we feel like we're the best team in college football still our defense is really good, our offense is good and our special team is good so we just put those three together shoot, you know what it is

5:04Shannon Sharpe:and you, you, the way you've been playing you kind of caught people by surprise last year but the way you played last year so you know the expectations coming in this year you're supposed to improve on last year's production how have you been able to stay even keel. Don't get too high. Don't read the press, the internet, the press clippings and let everybody pat you on the back and tell you how great you are. You've stayed really level-headed, but you've played exceptionally well this year. Coming into this year, a lot of people were like, man, Diego's figured out. He's washed. He ain't got it.

5:38You know what I mean? Real shit. Real shit. That's what they were saying. Yeah. You know, come show me. Come show me I ain't got it. Come show me you got me figured out. I think the most important thing though is we're a team like we all got each other six that's how it is I like that hey you're confident where you from originally Albuquerque New Mexico they call it Albucrazy New Mexico though yeah I like it with the confidence you have not only the way you play the way you speak the way you carry yourself the way you walk you you move your aura you move like you him where's that confidence come from especially at the quarterback position most of the time is frowned upon.

6:18They want to be buttoned up and say all the right things. But I like your style. I like your style. And do you think once you get to the next level, please tell me you remain the same way you are now. I'm going to be the same killer I've always been. I've been doing this shit since Juco. You feel me? But no one believed in me. No. I like it. I was a negative star. You ever see one of those? Yeah.

6:44Shannon Sharpe:I like it. I like it. But the thing is, I'm looking at your numbers. I mean, 10 to 19 and 129, you didn't have the greatest day, but you found a way. When the rubber needed to meet the road, when you need, hey, it's 10-10. And it's four minutes in the ball game, and we got to go down and get a touchdown because we're going to put pressure on you. We don't want you to kick no field goal. We want you to come down against our defense and have to get a tub because I'm going to get this in the end zone. Hey, we're going to get this ball. When I throw it, you catch it. When I hand it to you, just hold on to it because we're going to get this ball in the end zone.

7:20Shannon Sharpe:And we're going to put pressure on them to make them go down and get a touchdown against our defense. I was just in the huddle, and we came off the timeout, and the first play was supposed to go to me. And then they changed it up and gave it to Seti. Seti got it close or whatever, and I knew that next play. I knew that bitch was going to me. So I was like, shit, ain't moving. Hey, so let me ask you this. They throw the Hail Mary, and the guy catches it. Because the officials at first said no good. But they review it, and then look, he caught it, but he was at the one. One. I was like, oh, shit.

8:01We're going into overtime. And the crazy thing is that we went into overtime with them last year, too. But the score was 20-20. So it was like, I was like, oh, shit. That shit coming over. But it was going to swing our way this time, you know?

8:13Shannon Sharpe:Right, right. So now, look, you're 7-1. There's still a chance you guys can get to the SEC championship game. You go to the SEC championship game, anything can happen. You know, you win the SEC, you go into the college football playoff. That's the one thing we know. Whoever, moving forward from now until perpetuity, if you win the SEC championship, you're going to be in the college football playoff. So now, how do you remain, how do you keep this team focused? They're like, look, guys, we really haven't accomplished anything yet. Yeah, we're 7-1, and we're happy. And in the words of young fuck, whoop-de-doo.

8:48Shannon Sharpe:Whoop-de-doo, we're 7-1. But now I'm trying – how do I get to be 8-1? So what's your message? What's going to be your message to your team? Obviously, you're going to enjoy the win. You get 24 hours to enjoy the win. Yes. What is going to be your message to your team on Sunday? Well, I think a lot of guys broke up with their girlfriends, so they're hungry themselves. Ah!

9:09Real shit, real shit. Junior just broke up with his girlfriend, so he's hungry. He said feeding the ball, you know?

9:15Shannon Sharpe:Okay, that's what's up. A lot of guys don't got girlfriends right now on the team, so I think that motivates us. But I think going into this next game, it's taking one game at a time. Texas is a good team. They won tonight in a critical time, and we'll see them at home. Dude, we're really excited. Just to get another opportunity to play, though. So our defense is playing lights out. Our O-line, they were coming up to me after the game, and they're like, yo, bro, sorry, sorry, sorry. Now my dude, we won, you know? But they just want to play better and just, like, become so dominant. Like, that's just the expectation of just being a Vanderbilt football player now is just being dominant.

9:51Like, not these little margin wins. It's going out there and just laying it all on the line, you know?

9:59Shannon Sharpe:How have you been able to stay level-headed? obviously look Vanderbilt the program is not what it's not Alabama it's not one of these perennial powerhouses but you're turning it into that because Johnny Manziel put Texas A &M back on the map it was now when they think of Texas A &M and they've had good players come out of Texas A &M but Texas A &M now is the house where they play Kyle Field is the house that Johnny built now you're that guy. You're the guy that's putting Vanderbilt football back on the map. So how does Diego Pavia stay level-headed and say, you know you the ish. You know that.

10:37Shannon Sharpe:You know, I mean, you're like, damn, what's that smell? Oh, that's me, because I'm the dookie. That's me. That's me. So, how do you stay level-headed to make sure that you don't get too far in front of yourself? Well, one, I do yoga every Monday. They make me come. and just like come back to earth, you know? And then on Tuesday after practice, I do a lot of grounding. I'll ground for like an hour. And that usually after that, it's like our full reset. I'm good to go, ready for fucking Saturday. That's what you got to do. So what a party at tonight? Have you ever heard of the street called Broadway?

11:21Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What are we talking about, huh? Okay, okay, okay. I like it. Hey, quiet and careful, Ocho. Nashville like that. Ocho, you haven't been here? I've been to Nashville once. I've been to Nashville once. Hey, but listen. You must like black girls. Listen.

11:43Hey, DP, this is the thing. I'm one that I don't party. I've never had alcohol before. I don't drink. I don't do anything. I don't go to clubs. I like jazz. I like cigars, so I'm really not the fun guy you would like to hang with. And I play video game 24-7, so I'm really boring. My boy CB, too. He don't drink. He don't do any of that either. He still has a good time on Broadway. Broadway's a place for everyone, I'll tell you that right now.

12:08Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. Hey, yeah, yeah. Hold on. Is that an invite? You called me. Is that an invite? That's an invite. That's an invite. We have two more home games. This is an invite for both of you guys to come out and show out. Hold on. I come. Can I come on the field? Do dogs bark? Hey, I'll be there. And we might be able to put a helmet on you. Ask Theo. You still got some, how much time you got left available? Hey, Theo, what's up? What's good? What's up, bro? How you doing? Good? Hey, all is well. See this guy, you feel me? Yes, you pull out. Hey, I got you. Make sure you're there. We're going to have a fresh cigar right there on the sideline for you.

13:00Hey, ask Theo. Vandy over here, they even let you, like, blow the whistle for, like, the start of the third quarter or whatever, huh? Bro, they got more recruits here now. When I first came, the first game, they had probably six recruits on the sidelines. They had one dude in a wheelchair. He was a recruit. And I'm like, what is he going to do? But they said we might need him. I said, the Lord needs him. Just give him some rest. But now today they have like 150 recruits, man. It's wild. It's different.

13:34Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, hey, man. Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt turning up. They turning up. So, hey, Diego, I mean, you got it? You going to have any more eligibility left after this year? Yeah, I think I got like 14 or 16 years in the league.

13:50Shannon Sharpe:Hey, just sign me up. I'll win you a few of these, you feel me? That's what's up. Hey, man, Diego, man, that's unbelievable, man. So I get, see, now you with the guy, because Theo is in Nashville, so you just go with Theo, so everything just opened up. This is the guy. We might be going down to Nashville, man. Damn. Hey, wait, I'm going. Nashville is an hour and 30 minute flight for me. Where you at? Damn. I live in Miami. No, no, no. We might have to visit you. We might have to visit you. Oh, OK. Bring some of them white girls with you.

14:30If y 'all sparing any, I know y 'all like to keep them to yourself. You know he's selfish. You know he's selfish.

14:36Shannon Sharpe:Put him in the glasses and shit, both of them. No, nah. Hey, I was going to come. Hey. I was going to come, but I can't come now, because y 'all bring y 'all again. Hey, listen, hey. I'm on probation. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, DP. Uncle, Uncle's on probation and I'm married. I'm married. I'm married. I'm married. Oh, shit. Yeah. If you have a cookout at your home, I might be able to come. But since you're going to be going out, unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to join you, Diego. I'm sorry. We could leave you guys at the jail cell with my brothers or whatever.

15:13Shannon Sharpe:man appreciate you hey Diego appreciate your time man best of luck stay healthy and man hey we look I love watching you every single week watch you do your thing man appreciate you I appreciate you guys that's love man I'm gonna catch you guys love show I'll see you here yeah let's see it we'll see both y 'all all right all right bro appreciate you man love I love y 'all boys, man. Appreciate you. Hold on, Ocho. Hey. Is it 26 already? Hey, he live, uncle. Oh yeah, you could tell. Oh yeah, he all the way live. He live. You know what it remind me of? This is my first time meeting him, just the interaction and the way he carries himself.

15:53He's very, very confident. Hey, he remind me of like Scadabo, but playing quarterback. Yeah. I like him.

16:00Shannon Sharpe:Oh, you, oh. he all the way live. I like him. Oh yeah. Oh he no no he live live. Like the Joker like the Joker said in the first bat what? Oh we got a live one here. Yeah. He all he all the way what foul? Hey listen that that is the kind of quarterback I want to play for. Oh yeah. That the type of dude you want to play for. Yeah. Like that man that hey that's good energy boy. That's good energy. It's different than what a quarterback is supposed to be like. It's different. It's authentic. It's raw. Pause. I can see why Johnny gravitated towards him. Johnny sees, and I told you at the beginning, Johnny sees a lot of himself in him.

16:50Now I get it. And we're not just talking about it on the field either.

16:53Shannon Sharpe:Nope. I like good energy. Yeah. Good energy. Johnny got an opportunity to know him. outside of the field. Yeah, okay, their height and they kind of play similar, but their personalities and the confidence that they exude, that they instill in their teammates, yeah, I see why. I really see why now. That was dope. That was really dope. That was dope. Yeah, that was – he got Theo Barr.

17:30Shannon Sharpe:They won Charleston Southern. They beat Virginia Tech. They beat South Carolina. They beat Georgia State. They beat Utah State. Lost to Alabama. Beat number 10 LSU at the time. 21:55It always warms my heart when I see athletes prolong that career. You know what I'm saying?

22:03Shannon Sharpe:Well, let me ask you this, Ryan. Okay, you played football. Did you have professional or collegiate aspirations? Absolutely, bro. Yeah, absolutely, bro. I used to play with Marshawn. For real? Okay, beast mode. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We from the same neighborhood. So, you know, I played against him in Pop Warner High School in college. Yeah. I played at Sacramento State. So, Ocho, bro, we both played for the same college, man. You remember Coach Steve Mushagan? Hey, Coach Moose. Yeah, Coach Moose. Yeah, Coach Moose got me my scholarship at Sacramento State. Oh, yeah, look at that. That's me scoring a touchdown on Davis right there, on UC Davis.

22:44Shannon Sharpe:Oh, that's loud. You a wide receiver, right? I was. I played slot. I was. You was cooking him? Not like y 'all, bro, but I paid for school. You know what I'm saying? I paid for school. You feel me? Yeah, they are, girl. Yeah. That's dope, man. Coach Moose is good, man. Coach Moose. So let me ask you this. Okay, you go to college. You have a nice little college career. When did you decide to say, you know what, film is going to be the direction that I go in? Yeah, bro, that's a great question. So I got my first scholarship to a school called St. Mary's College. It's known as a basketball school.

23:23We used to have a football team, and then I dropped the program after my freshman year. Okay. I played quite a bit that season. I was returning kicks. I was playing receiver. I played a little bit of DB that year. So I got some more scholarship offers. But while I was there, it was a woman named Rosemary Graham who taught a creative writing class. And she read something I wrote. And she was like, hey, man, you should think about writing screenplays. You know, my girlfriend at the time, she's now my wife, she bought me a little software that I could write screenplays. But I fell in love with it, man.

23:57So by the time I transitioned to Sacramento State, I was doing it on the side, taking taking classes and shooting shooting short films with my homies. You know, and then I applied to film school in 2007. It's crazy, bro, because because we was in I was doing real well going into my senior year. And I got an injury doing seven on seven where I walk on a cat was trying to walk on a team was over eager. And he he caught me on a post and broke my zygomatic arch right here. So I was eight weeks off where I couldn't lift. I couldn't do anything. And during that time, I realized, like, I need to put this application in for film school.

24:35Man, football is fleeting. You know what I'm saying? So I applied to USC film school, and I got accepted. I found out I got accepted, like, in the middle of the season. And right around that time, man, I started to find myself, my mind wondering when I'll be on the field. Thinking about something else. I'm thinking about a movie I want to make. I'm thinking about being on set. You know, that shit is dangerous when you're doing that. You got to be, football, you got to be all in. And I was kind of when I knew, you know what I mean? That's dope, man. I want to talk, listen, I'm a movie head. I enjoy films.

25:06I enjoy the arts and the crafts of it. I enjoy getting lost in character. I get very passionate when I talk about stuff like this. So I watched the trailer for Sinners. And to me, it seemed like a unique blend of supernatural action, you know, mystery and psychological theory. How did you approach this genre and bending concept? And what was it about this story that made you want to tell it? That's a beautiful question, man. So I had an uncle who was from Mississippi. You know, I'm from Austin. But I had an uncle who was from Mississippi. And he was like the oldest member of my family, the oldest male member of my family.

25:42You know what I'm saying? So whenever I kicked it with him, he wanted to listen to all the blues records and drink all the Tyler whiskey. You know what I'm saying? And he passed away while I was working on Creed in 2015. and I never really, really reckoned with his passion. You know what I'm saying? I would put blues records on to think about him. And that was how I got the idea for this, man. Like, you know, coming off of Black Panther, it was a real long movie that would count for everyone. We dealt with a lot of tragedies, a lot of misfortune dealing with the COVID situation. So for me, I wanted to make something that was quick, but also something that was very unique, very profound.

26:19You know what I'm saying? Like, like in, in, and I wanted to, to, to play in, um, in a genre rock and incorporate music. Um, but I also wanted to make something that was a little bit, that was a little scary, man. Cause you know, black folks, we like that. You know what I mean? We like theater and talking at the screen. You know what I'm saying?

26:35Shannon Sharpe:Something that, um, exactly. You know, I think, I think, um, we have some incredible filmmakers that have, that have capitalized on the medium. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, I think it, I think it's Jordan. Jordan Peele. Yeah. But, but. Get out. Yeah. Yeah, but Spice done his thing in that genre, Nia Dacastas done everything in that genre. You know, so I was fired up about it, bro. And truthfully, bro, it was a chance for me being a product of the great migration, you know what I'm saying, from being born and raised on the West Coast, to get back to the South and embrace that part of my ancestry.

27:10You know what I mean? I had the most amazing time making this movie, bro. Rob Markman - That's dope. How long, I'm just curious, how long does it take to make a movie in general? I don't mean this one specifically, but I'm just saying in general, what's the timetable like? Rob Markman - That's a great question. So this one we made relatively quickly, but they can go from anywhere from two to four years. Rob Markman - What? Rob Markman - This one we was able to make in one year. Yeah. It's essentially, bro, it's essentially like, imagine a season, season and a half of football. you know what I mean

27:44Shannon Sharpe:because it takes you six months to shoot six months to a year to shoot it and then you have to edit it it takes you another six months to a year to edit it correct yeah man and that's not including writing the script because I write the script too right sometimes you gotta shop the movie around you know what I'm saying right you know I can tell you how long my movies all took so this is my fifth movie that I wrote and directed okay Fruitvale Fruitvale Station classic Oscar Bryant classic man right on that's crazy I said that man But it took me about a year to make that one. Okay. You know, Creed, we shot that.

28:19So Creed was about a year and a half. You know, like in a half of that year, we were just trying to convince Stallone that it was worth doing. You know what I mean? Right. Rightfully so. You know what I mean? He wanted to make sure that we were serious about it and make sure it would work for him. And then we shot in January. We put the film out in like November. That was a fast one. Black Panther took about two years. started working on that in 2016 put it on 2018 but you know kind of forever was like a was like a four-year movie you know because i wrote i wrote one script you know what i'm saying chadwick passed away i didn't know you know i didn't even know he was sick so i didn't have to rewrite that you know we got going um the pandemic slowed down quite a bit and then you know my uh my lovely actress got injured so we had to shut down for a little bit you know what i mean and then we put that one out so so i wanted to make something fast after that after that you know four years on on one movie You feel me?

29:10But I was blessed, man, to be able to make something that I'm so proud of, man. Like super, you know, really proud of this man. I can't wait to show it to y 'all. I think y 'all gonna dig it, man. Rob Markman - Listen, I know I'm a dig it. When you watch the trailer, for me, when it comes to anything that you do, whether you're an athlete, you have to be a special athlete that puts butts in the seats. When you're a comedian, you have to be a comedian that has stage presence to always keep the crowd engaged. when I watch the trailer and it catches you when it catches you right away I don't know who did the editing I don't know who did the trailer but I'm telling you right away it catches you and it keeps you and it holds you and then it's like it's an appetizer but it ain't enough it ain't enough because I want to see what's next so now I can't wait to see it and it just I'm very passionate and enthusiastic when it comes to movies bro I've been a fan of yours for a long time all your work everything you've done.

30:04That's why I can't shit up right now. My bad. I'm going to tell you something crazy. Ocho, for real, bro. I'm going to tell you something crazy. We met before, bro. For real? We met at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was the first film festival I ever got into. Spike did a movie called Kobe Doing Work. And ESPN had the world premiere of it, bro. And I saw you in there, and I went over there and shook your hand, bro. You know what I'm saying? Just on the stream. You know, just being a fan of what you do on the football field. I was a student of the game, bro. You know what I'm saying? Like, what y 'all was doing, bro, over there in Cincinnati, man, when it was you and TJ and the boys, bro.

30:40Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I'm saying? Hey, like, just the precision of the rock running, bro, the confidence. You know what I'm saying? Both of y 'all had that. Both of y 'all had the mental game, too, bro. I remember Shannon, bro, when he used to be mic'd up. Acting a fool, bro. You know what I'm saying? Hey, yo.

30:59Shannon Sharpe:I appreciate that. I appreciate that. I appreciate that. I appreciate that. Hey, Brian, let me study your movies. A lot of your movies, you got Michael B. Jordan. Now, Michael B. Jordan in this role, he plays a dual role. He's stacking. Because I'm like, I said, hold on. That look like Michael B. Jordan playing both of these both. I said, come on. Now, hold on. So I had to rewind it and look even closer. I said, it is. So what is it about Mike that you love casting him in your movies? If I'm not mistaken, he was in Fruitvale, too. Yeah, for the station. Yeah. Yeah, even in all of them. Look, bro, like what you'll find is chemistry, man.

31:36You know what I'm saying? It's a head coach and a quarterback. It's a quarterback and a receiver. You know, like you develop a shorthand where you save time. You know what I'm saying? You establish a tone for the rest of the crew. And we're not the first ones to do it, man. Usually when you see filmmakers work, they usually have to go. Spike and Denzel.

31:56Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Oh, yeah, man. I mean, big time. Spike and Denzel. Tony Scott and Denzel. Yep. You know, Scorsese had a thing with De Niro and then he rekindled it with Leo. Exactly. You know, it's it's it's it's helpful, man. And Mike has a, you know, Mike, Mike has a has a very amazing work ethic. You know what I'm saying? Like he's always willing to go, always trying to push himself. He doesn't want to rest on his laurels, you know, and I can rock with that, bro. So, you know, I'll put him in every movie if I can. He'll always have a role if I'm working, you know what I mean? Let me ask you this, right?

32:34Shannon Sharpe:How did you come up with the name Sinners? Why the name Sinners? Man, that's a great question, bro. We found that late, man. Like, for a long time, the movie was just called Grilled Cheese. It was a working title. Yeah, like, so if you pull up in Louisiana, you know, this past summer and say, hey, man, we're Grilled Cheese shooting at that, they would have brought you to our movie. Okay. And, you know, and the story behind that name was I've been cooking these long, these long, drawn out crazy meals. I wanted to make something quick and fast. I knew it would taste good. You know what I'm saying?

33:03So that's how we came up with that. But for Sinners, you know, it was a collaboration between us and the studio trying to figure out the right name for the movie. And we realized that that line, you know, that word was said so many times throughout the script. You know, it deals with blues music and its relationship with the church. You know, like a lot of times the best blues singers will come from gospel. You know what I'm saying? You'll learn that. You know, a lot of times that daddy's was pastors. You know what I mean? And they sing, they sing music about drinking and bumping and grinding.

33:34And it's in conflict with how they was raised. You know what I'm saying? So that so that dynamic was one that we were really that we were really, you know, once we realized like that, like, like it was like, oh, man, it was always a name. It should always been called that, you know. But this movie, but trust no one, because this movie has a lot to do with paranoia.

33:59Absolutely, bro. I mean, look, it's, you know, it's dealing with it's dealing with black culture. You know what I'm saying? And a lot of folks don't know that, like, that, you know, I would argue that blues music is the most important contribution that America has made to global pop culture. You know what I'm saying? Everything originated off of blues. Everything comes from that. And when you do the research, it really came from this one specific area of Mississippi. You know what I mean? Like, like, like in, in, in, at that time when blues was created, it was very hard. It was a very hard place to be black.

34:32You know what I'm saying? Yeah. people um and people were trying to people were trying to affirm that humanity affirm that dignity at a time when when when it was you know when it was when it was very difficult and people were trying to keep them separate right you know what i mean um and for me that experience kind of breeds a level of paranoia you know what i mean when you can't when you can't be out after after the dark in certain towns where you gotta you know where you know where everybody knows everybody so when somebody new shows up you know i'm saying or somebody who's been gone a long time you know it's a little it's a little bit uh uh you know you might look at them a certain way you I mean, how did y 'all come up?

35:05Did y 'all come from places where everybody knew everybody? You could tell an outsider at the job of that.

35:09Shannon Sharpe:I'm from a small town. There were 3 ,500 people with two traffic lights. So we pretty much knew everybody. Now, obviously, there were people that would come back from New York or Chicago or Detroit that I wasn't familiar with, but I knew their family. And after a while, they ended up staying. So we were cool with them also. You said something very interesting because everybody talks about the Mississippi Delta, the Delta Blues. Yes, sir. This film deals with a lot of brotherhood, loyalty, fate. Yes, sir. You did a great job of working it and putting all that together, and it came together. From the trailer, from what I saw, I haven't been to the movie since the pandemic.

35:52Shannon Sharpe:I'm going to go check this one out. I'm interested to see how you tie this thing all together. Now, I saw the two-minute trailer, but I want to see you tie this thing together for 90 minutes. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I mean, we, I'm proud of it, man. And like, look, another reason I think he going, you going to dig it, man, is your relationship with your brother Sterling, bro. You know what I'm saying? Like whenever I hear y 'all, whenever I hear y 'all talk, I got to imagine in y 'all neighborhood, y 'all was known. You know what I mean? Like, you know, like in that, so these twins, you know, it's a, it's smoke.

36:22Yeah. Smoke and stack. It's an archetype, right?

36:29what I'm saying? Yeah. And we plan on that, you know, that relationship between the brothers, man, what makes them similar? What makes them different? You know, I think Mike just did a beautiful job with it, man. I think you're really going to enjoy it. Anybody who got that type of relationship, you know what I'm saying? Got a big brother, got a little brother, you know, going to really feel this movie, I think, on a different level. I like it. I got one more question, man. After creating something like this, something that's so bold, so different, and you're pushing boundaries with most of your work and your craft.

36:59And again, I'm going to tell you, I'm going to harp on it because I've never had a chance to actually tell you. Now I do. I'm going to make sure I let you know I'm a huge fan of everything you've done and I'm really, really excited for this. But do you see yourself continue to push boundaries with more genre films? Or just, I don't want to be too nosy, but what's next? We got another Creed coming? If we do got another Creed coming, I want to shoot my shot real quick. I can be like the final boss. Yeah, we got Ellie Creed coming for sure. Mike's going to direct that. So yeah, absolutely, bro. I think we love to make something happen for you.

37:39The other piece for me is I want to work a long time, bro. I want to make all types of stuff, man. I do love working in the genre space. This is my first movie with out and out horror elements. And bro, I tell you, it's very addictive. You know what I'm saying? Like the idea of doing something else that isn't this much fun, it kind of frightens me a little bit, man. But we'll see, man. We'll put this out to the world and see how people respond and then we'll go from there. But I'm definitely not closing the door on doing more genre work for sure, man. It was just too much fun, also for real. Right, right.

38:21Shannon Sharpe:I like it. You know what, Ryan, when I look at it and I think about like you did Fruitvale, you've done Creed, you've done Black Panther, now you're in this genre. It's kind of like Spike because Spike has kind of been all over the place. He's done Malcolm X, he's done Hurricane, he did Devil in Blue Dress, he's done Harlem Blues, he's done Inside Man, he's done, I think he did Man on Fire. He did 25th Hour? 25th hour, yes. So he's kind of been, is that kind of the direction? Like, look, I don't want y 'all to pigeonhole me in there and say, oh, he only does, if this is comedy, this is Ryan. If it's something to do with Marvel or Black Panther, this has got to be Ryan.

39:00Shannon Sharpe:You want to be, like, multifaceted. You don't want to be tied down or pigeonholed or typecast for any particular type of movie. Right. That's absolutely correct, man. Spike is a big hero of mine, man, a mentor. You know, same with John Singleton. You know what I'm saying? Yep. big hero mentor and then stepping outside of our community. I love filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh, you know what I'm saying? You never know what they're going to do next but you know it's going to be quality. You know what I'm saying? I do definitely want to continue to push myself but also push the medium forward, man.

39:38You know what I'm saying? It's a blessing to be able to work in a space where you get to work on things that are fresh, work on things that haven't been done before. For instance, with this film, this is the first time that the IMAX camera has been combined with an Ultra Panavision lens. So it's the same camera work, same camera package that was used on Quentin Tarantino's film, The Hateful Eight. That was great. That was good. So you combine that with the traditional IMAX film camera, first time ever. You know what I'm saying? So getting a chance to break new ground and do that with people of color on the screen.

40:12and a story set in the Mississippi Delta, it's a great honor to be able to do something like that. You know what I mean? And it helps me to be motivated. It helps me to stay sharp. I'm getting to work with people who I've been working with for a long time. It's just amazing.

40:27Shannon Sharpe:I don't want to be too presumptuous of this, but I saw something and it seems like, I forget the two brothers, but it's two brothers, Ocho, and one of them might be cast. I want to throw my hat in for T 'Challa. You know, I want to throw my hat in. I just throw my hat in. Hold on, man. Hold on. What you doing? Hold on. Hey, man. I want to throw my hat in to me. Hey, man. Get it in there. Hey, man. We can talk about it, man. Hey. How you going to take Mastillo? Can I get my role first in Creed? Oh, okay. Okay. Oh, you okay? You want to be one of the fighters that Creed fight? Yeah. Okay, okay, okay.

41:03Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I got an extensive background in combat sports, so it would be perfect to be able to transition. so I ain't really got to play no character. I can just be myself. Hey, pop in that thing as Ocho, honey. I feel it. Yeah, Aldis Hodge. That's his name. Aldis Hodge. Oh, Aldis Hodge. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, hey, they had him already in the uniform. I was like, okay. Yeah, he could definitely pass for T 'Challa. Yeah. He could. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, Aldis, big shots off to Aldis, man. He's incredible. You know, he make watches too, bro. Does he? straight up straight up know how to make watches bro right wow like a genius bro you know what I'm saying Ryan were you as a kid were you in the comics were you a superhero fan yeah big time I had an older cousin you know I'm the oldest of three boys so I didn't have no big brothers I always been looking for one you know what I'm saying so I had an older cousin who was who was seven years older than me who was a big comic book head and I got into him just cause he I thought he was cool you feel me so that was when I started reading him but I did I did always read him like um i took a break from a little bit when i when i got serious about sports right we still watch the cartoons what have you but it was you know it was it was all school and ball but like you know from i would say from like from like eighth grade like ninth grade maybe to uh to to my senior year of college and when i went back to film school i got back into them you know i mean do you collect them man that's a great question bro i honestly i i i do i do man like not but not actively, bro.

42:34What happens now is I'll go to Comic Con for work and I'll go. They got basically a floor where you can go buy anything. I go in there and hit the floor and cop one or something. You know what I mean? But it's been a while since I've been in the comic book store, man. I'm not going to hold you. Give me your top five superheroes. Ooh. Shit. All right. I'm going to go fast. I'm not going to overthink it. I'm going to go T 'Challa number one. Okay. And then I'm going to go Wolverine. Okay. Can I put villains in it? You can. I got Magneto number three. You got who, Magneto?

43:21Shannon Sharpe:Magneto. I got Magneto number three.

43:28I got... I'm going to go deep cut. I'm going to go deep cut. Roar Sarch from Watchmen. Okay. I know Watchmen. Roar Shark. Roar Shark from Watchmen. And then I'm going to go I'm going to go Rogue. Okay. Rogue number five. Yeah. Rogue is gash. Rogue is gash. Take her glove off touch, you take your powers, knock you out. I mean, that's pretty solid.

44:03Shannon Sharpe:I'm surprised you really didn't go with a lot of the old like Superman. Batman, Batman ain't no superhero. Batman, he can't do ish without that belt. Bro, bro, Batman was a dog for me, bro. Like the fact that I'm saying this without saying Batman is crazy because that was the one for us because they had to animate a series. Yeah. And we used to mainline that. I had a homie from Fresno who played DB, incredible defensive back. He a coach now. Man, me and him, during fall camp, bro, we went half on a DVD pack. And during them double days, we would ride back to his girl house and watch the movies in between the double days, bro.

44:45She'll make a little fool for us, bro. We on the couch, bro, taking it back to eighth grade with it. You know.

44:52Shannon Sharpe:That's live. That's live.

44:57Shannon Sharpe:Black Panther 3, how long we got to wait? Not long. Yeah, not long. I mean, there's been a lot of rumors circulating that Denzel going to be in it. Yeah. I don't know. That's what the word in the street. Yeah. I have a head. We talking. Yeah. We talking. Yeah. I'm been dying to work with Denzel, man. And I'm hoping we can make that happen. but um but but i got i got every intention on working with him in that in that movie and and he as long as as long as as long as he interested man we it's gonna happen um but but but you know he he a living legend man and and um and a great and a great mentor for so many of us you know like like he just he just he all about he all about looking out for us now man you know what i'm saying and and um you know what it was an example bro for how to how to how to live man He got his family around him, his children.

45:54Yeah, man. Like, everybody around him.

45:55Shannon Sharpe:Paulette, we've been with Paulette for 40-plus years. Oh, she's huge. John David used to train with me in Atlanta. I had retired, but he was down at Morehouse, and the trainer that trained me, bring him to the track, you know, tell him how to do certain things. Yeah. I've known that family for 20, that was in, I retired, so like 20-plus years. Yeah. And Denzel is great. Yeah. His wife, Paulette. Yeah. John David, man, they're unbelievable. Unbelievable people. RC, I just seen Denzel. I wasn't able to actually, I was able to let him know I was there, but he wasn't taking no visitors. It didn't matter who you were.

46:33I was able to see him last week in New York. I went to see Othello. Yeah. He don't play when he on Broadway, bro. No, no, no, no. When he on Broadway, he in a different zone, bro. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. How was the play? Oh, man, beautiful. Beautiful. Listen, I took drama in high school, so that's why I still have a love for drama and the arts and theater and dance. So I really appreciate - Excuse me. Huh? Come on, Unk, man. Start playing, right? Hey, listen. Unk, you already know, because you can hear me talk when I talk about certain things. You already know it's something I really like now.

47:10Hey, why you caught bullshit when he said dance? I was when he got up in there on you, bro. Hold on. This is how you know I love dance, too. Mind you, RC, I did ballet when I was playing. Yeah. I just left New Orleans last week. I went to see Alvin Ailey, man, for the umpteen time since 1988 when my grandma took me to go see him in 88 at the Gussman Theater. I love it, bro. Alvin and the Chipmunks. Why you on this talk, man? hey

47:46Shannon Sharpe:I want to go see him I'm going to see him I haven't been to a whole lot of Broadway I saw Samuel Jackson when he played Dr. King I might not get there yeah Broadway is different it's so different than going to an actual movie I don't know if it you just went to but to sit there and to see I'm like, damn, this is amazing. Yeah. It's no joke, bro. It's a true actor's medium. You know what I'm saying? Yes. Like, whereas in film, you know, like, it's arguably a filmmaker's medium. They'll say television is a writer's medium. Like, that stage is an actor's medium, bro. They got nothing to save them.

48:30You know what I'm saying? They just up there. You know what I mean? It's no, you can't fool me in. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's just, I love it, bro.

48:39Shannon Sharpe:And that's what Denzel says. Denzel says he's a theatrical actor that went to the screen. He cut his teeth on Broadway. He says some people are staged and they come to Broadway. I was Broadway that went to the screen. it's interesting too bro because because like because like a lot of people don't a lot of people don't understand too is like um it's like it's like the culture of broadway you know like like um very similar to you know very similar to basketball right like if you if you if you you know like basketball is very culturally ingrained in the united states so much so that if you go professional if you go watch a professional basketball game anywhere in the world most of the players is going to be from the states you know what i'm saying if you go overseas to Italy and watch a game there or overseas in Germany.

49:28You know what I'm saying? Like you'll, you'll, you'll see a lot of players here and with that stage work, you know, it's so culturally ingrained in the UK. You know what I mean? Like it's, it's a part of that culture. They, they, they, they about the stage, the way we are about basketball here. You know what I'm saying? It's in every school. It's in every, you know, so you see, so you'll see these British actors getting shipped out all over the place, man. They ain't on every row. You know what I mean? They ain't on every, You know, white British actors, black British actors, you know what I'm saying?

54:13Shannon Sharpe:All right, guys. We know y 'all been waiting to say, no, you have not missed the Bud interview. Now it's time for you to show you guys the interview that Ocho and I had with Bud Crawford earlier today. Let's take a listen to this sound, guys.

54:28Shannon Sharpe:All right, ladies and gentlemen, We told you we had a very, very special guest joining us tonight in the four belt era. He's the first male boxer to be undisputed in two weight classes. Here he is taking on the ultimate test. He says he wants to do it. He's going to do it. Here he is, ladies and gentlemen, Terrence Bud Crawford. Bud, what it do? What's up with it? Man, I'm good. But look, we're seven, six, seven days away from this flight. You seem so calm. You seem so relaxed. When I did the earlier interview on Club Shay Shay, you was like, I'm ready. I've been preparing for this. Everybody seems concerned because you're moving up two, three different weight classes.

55:09Shannon Sharpe:But you seem calm. What's going on? What are you thinking now as the crescendo is about to happen? Only thing I'm thinking about is history, you know, making history. That's it. But how has camp been so far? How has your approach been in camp this time as opposed to other fights? Have you had a different approach in the way you went about training for this fight? Not at all. Like I said before, camp is camp. We go in there and put in the hard work no matter who we fighting. Canelo's no different. We train hard. We fight hard. You know, the work is done in the gym. The novice, like, oh, man, Bud, Bud, Bud.

56:01Shannon Sharpe:I've saw a lot of people that do this professionally, do what you do, box professionally. And they'll say, I don't know if Bud understands the difference in punching power from a 168 versus a 147 versus a 154 versus a 135. that seems to be the concern of people that do what you do for a living bud are you concerned about that because when i talked to you said he need to be concerned about my power fact you know one thing is evident is that you're gonna get hit in the boxing match okay oh always you know everything could be you know all the questions will be answered come saturday you know they They don't got to speculate and guess and hope.

56:47Oh, man, he can't take the punch. How do you know I can't take the punch? You know? L.A. never hit me and I said I can't take the punch or... You know? So I just laugh at people that's, you know, praying and hoping that it goes the way they want it to go. You know? So Saturday, everything will be shown.

57:10Shannon Sharpe:You look good, bud. Bud, I mean, you had the internet and the buzz. They say, man, damn, Bud look good. Here we are. And we're still a couple of days away from the fight. And he's looking like this. So obviously, he's put the time in the gym. He's put the time in the weight room. The one thing that's never been questioned about you, Bud, is that you took your craft serious. You put the time in. No one has ever said Bud Crawford stepped into the ring. And he was unprepared. So we know you are prepared. But what, and I asked, I said, well, damn, bud, I mean, to step up in this weight class, what do you normally walk around at?

57:45Shannon Sharpe:You're like, I'm good. He's like, this is really good for me because I ain't got to cut that much weight now. Right, right. No, I'm good. I'm good, you know? Like I always say, everything happened for a reason. And that reason being that I'm here now and, you know, it's already written. And so I'm just ready to go out there and make history and see my legacy. Come Saturday. Yeah. Listen, if there was one boxer who can make history, going up weight classes, going down weight classes, regardless of what it may be, you have a chance to cement yourself in the history books when it comes to some of the greatest boxers of all time.

58:27If there was one boxer that can do it, it's you based on your mentality, your upbringing, your surroundings that have built you for moments like this. Boxing is about moments. Boxing is about making history and making fights people want to see. The only question I have going into this fight, I'm excited. I have you to win. What challenges you think you might face fighting the Canelo? It's going to be a lot of challenges. You know, he's a good fighter all around. You know, he's a good pressure fighter. He's a good counter puncher. He's a good boxer. He has great defense. You know, it's going to be a lot of challenges, but that's what makes for a great fight.

59:10You know, you got to solve the puzzle. So, you know, just like he got to solve my puzzle, I got to solve his. You know, we're going to go in there and we're going to give our all and the best man going to win.

59:24Shannon Sharpe:Have you thought about it? Have you thought about it, Bud, when you look at guys that have moved up, you look at Sugar Ray goes from 35 to 40, 47 50, goes all the way to 60 to fight Marvin Hagler. You look at Floyd and what he's been able to do. You see Pacquiao but when I think about a fighter, I'm looking at Roy Jones. Roy Jones started out as a junior middleweight 154, goes all the way up to heavyweight I'm looking at you, where you started bro, you 35 30, 40 pounds from where you originally started at. Have you let that sink in, the gap and what this would mean for Bud Crawford legacy. I'm a I'm going to be able to tell my grandkids, your papa, Uncle Joe and I are going to be there.

1:00:05Shannon Sharpe:Your papa was there when Bud Crawford shocked the world when he did what no one thought he could do other than himself and those in his circle. Have you allowed yourself to think about what this moment actually means in boxing history? I haven't thought about that yet because the job is not done yet. Okay. You know, so of course, you know, a lot of people kind of remind that, you know, this is history. Like, go out there and do your thing. But, you know, you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself. Yeah, like it ain't I ain't did nothing yet. You know, so after after, you know, the fight, that's when, you know, all the emotions and everything come out.

1:00:53Shannon Sharpe:reality sets in. You know, my question is, how soon after your last fight did you start thinking about the Canelo? Or was Canelo always on the horizon? You fought Sean Porter. You fought Errol. And then you fought this last fight. So how far did you start thinking about, man, I want to fight Canelo? Well, really, I wanted to fight Canelo when I was at 147, before I fought Majumar, I wanted to go up three divisions to fight Canelo, you know, because that never been done before. I want to do things that never been done before, you know, so I can be the first, like I was the first to become a two-time undisputed.

1:01:43In the four-bed era, first male boxer to do that. Like that's legacy right there. When they talk about, you know, being undisputed and undisputed champions, they're going to cement my name as number one. I was the first fighter. The first to do it. Yeah. And that's going to set the bar high for the fighters coming after me to try to, you know, do better, which they probably will, you know, in history. But given time. But you're giving them something to shoot for, bud.

1:02:15Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure. Just like the other boxers I mentioned, Sugar Ray and Roy Jones Jr., some of these other fighters, gave you something, gave you a target. And that's because, like you said, some fighter in 15 years, 20 years, 30 years from now said, I saw what Bud Crawford did. And I said, you know what? I want to challenge myself like Bud. Bud went and did it, had no fear, and said, hey, whatever happens is going to happen, but I need to know. I don't want to have sit back or regressing. Man, I should have got that fight. I should have did that and be afraid. Somebody's going to say they did something because they saw Bud Crawford do it in 2025.

1:02:53Shannon Sharpe:For sure. Yeah, something that the fans always ask for, including myself, being a huge boxing enthusiast, we always talk about making boxing great again, getting fighters to fight each other. I think you're going to start something, taking on the challenge, daring to be great, wanting to create a legacy and make history in itself. I think a moment like this, when you do step in the ring with Canelo, it will get some of the other best fighters to actually fight each other instead of, you know, motioning around and picking and choosing when to fight. Scared. Just the challenges that you're taking on is dope.

1:03:28It's really dope to see. But after some of this magnitude, but a fight like this, where you talk about legacy, you talk about history. I'm not trying to put the carriage before the horse, but what's next after something like this, of this magnitude, this damn big? Hey, listen, man, we take one fight at a time. One fight at a time.

1:03:49Shannon Sharpe:Well, you meant to put the horse before the carrot because the carrot does go before the horse because the horse is chasing the carrot. But we got what you... But we get what you... We understand what he mean, bud. We understand what he means. My bad, my bad, my bad, my bad, my bad. But I know you're very close to Floyd. Did Floyd give you any pointers about how to go in there? Because Floyd fought Canelo. I think Canelo was 23, Floyd was 36. So you're a little slightly older than what Floyd was. Canelo's a little slightly older than when he fought. But has he given you any pointers of how to go about your business?

1:04:24Shannon Sharpe:Or do you even take pointers? Do you watch film on fights? Because Floyd said he didn't watch film. He took what his trainer was going to say, and he implemented that in the ring. Do you watch film, and has Floyd give you any pointers? Well, of course, you know, I watch a little film. You know, not too much because, you know, I always said that the fighter that I'm fighting now is not going to fight me the same way because my style is different. Watch a little video to see the things that they like to do. Once I see that, then I know what to work on. I know what to watch out for. As far as Floyd, no, I haven't talked to Floyd about Penelo or the fight.

1:05:03Shannon Sharpe:When you go into the... When you say you watch a little video, are you looking for a pattern? Are you looking at the way he's trying to set things up? Are you looking at the way he's circled? Are you looking at the way? So what exactly are you looking for? Just, you know, a little bit of everything. I like to look at it to see what the tendencies is and things that they do, things that they don't like, and just certain patterns, for sure. So then when I'm in the ring, I recognize it when I see it. And you know what's coming. Are you? You have all of us, all of us have, I have a routine before I played football game.

1:05:41There was some that, there was a pattern. There was a, I'm not really superstitious. Is there a certain routine that you do before every fight? And are you superstitious in any way? I'm not superstitious or anything. Like I said, all this is already written. You know what I mean? This is already a guy playing. So, you know, there's nothing he can do, I can do that can write history. It's already done.

1:06:12So, we just got to see how it goes. So, go ahead, Ocho, go ahead. I was going to say, I know how it's going to go. I know how it's going to go. And when you raise your hand, I'm going to jump on the ring like little mama did when Jason was on stage. I'm telling you right now, I'm jumping in the ring. They had to take me to jail. For sure. For sure. I'm going to make sure they have to take you to jail, though. Don't worry.

1:06:36Shannon Sharpe:So, so, so, so, but now, okay, here we are a couple of days away. Now, for the most part, the hay's in the barn. There ain't no most far. I don't know. You might, might have one more day of road work, whatever the case may be. You now, all of a sudden you trying to make sure you come in at that one 68. So over the next three to four days, what is a bird call for a day? Are you watching movies? Are you, you, you know, you catch it up last, you know, Your trainer's in your ear and says, okay, remember this? This is what we worked on. So what's the last three to four days, what is that going to be like for Bud Crawford?

1:07:11A lot of media, a lot of interviews. Got the press conference. You got the weigh-ins. You got, you know, the shakeouts. You got the making weight. Then you got the fight. So you don't just be sitting in a room just chilling, you know what I mean, all day. You still got things to do.

1:07:32Shannon Sharpe:Is that a good thing or a bad thing that you don't sit alone in your thoughts that you like you said you're doing interviews and you you got you you got this media tour that you got to go on and you mentioned you got the press conference. But for the most part, I would think family, friends and loved ones leave you alone. And so you can focus on what you need to get focused on. So is that what happens? I mean, you've already given everybody. OK, look here. I cut the phone off at such and such a time. Don't call me. hey somebody else is gonna handle what they need to do uh mama you got the kids mama you handle everything manager you handle everything over here now it's time to prepare my mind and really just lock in yeah it uh it gets like that but at the same time me as a protector i still be you know worried and thinking about them yeah especially when they all come to vegas and And, you know, they all partying or going out, things like that.

1:08:30Knowing me, I'm like, what they doing? Where they at? You know, are they here? They here. All right. Make sure they're good, you know. So the worry in the bottom ain't going to never stop. But everything else is definitely cool to be, you know, in your thoughts at times. Like, I like to sit by myself and visualize the fight, you know, how it's going to happen and what I'm going to do if this happens, what I'm going to do if that happens, you know, and just be in your own space at times.

1:09:01Shannon Sharpe:Do you believe, a lot of people say, well, I don't believe Bud can win a decision. Bud is probably going to have to stop Canelo because Canelo is the champion at the 168. And it's probably the likelihood of him getting a victory by decision in Vegas at this weight, probably not going to happen. I mean, what's your mindset? By any means necessary? If it has to go to the card, it goes to the card. If there's a point in the fight where I feel I can sit down on some punches and get him up out of there, that's what I'm going to do. My thing is I don't worry about what people say. You know, many people is worried about what other people are saying.

1:09:45Oh, he's too small or he can't take the punch or he's not going to get a decision or he's this, he's that. I don't worry about none of that. My job is to go out there and fight. That's what I'm going to do. Come Saturday, I'm going to go out there and fight. And I'm going to fight my ass off. You know what I mean? And then whatever happens, happens. But I know one thing for sure. I'm not leaving without all them belts.

1:10:09Shannon Sharpe:Damn. So, hey, you're going to be like a department store. You're going to have about seven, eight, nine, ten belts when you walk up out of there. I'm going to be walking out with all of them. I mean, has your power, your footwork, your speed, Has everything carried up despite the weight gain? Everything flows with you, right? Yeah, for sure. You know what I mean? Like I said, just because you gain a little weight doesn't mean that, you know, you slower. People get faster when they get bigger. We're explosive. Punch a little harder, things like that. So I'm not worried about, you know, foot speed or hand speed or anything like that.

1:10:46I'm just fine.

1:10:47Shannon Sharpe:But you also didn't have to go through that big weight cut to come all the way down to possibly 47. Because, you know, and I was telling people, I said, man, they said, man, you was in the ring wrestling with Bud. I said, that little mofo's strong now. Hey, you saw, hey, I said, you saw how you had me huffing and puffing. So don't let the signs fool you. I know you say, man, he only won. I said, nah, he wasn't 147 that day. He said he won 147 that day. I don't know what he weighed, but it wasn't 47. Yeah. But do you feel comfortable? Do you feel like, because sometimes you gain a little weight, bud, you're like, damn, I don't feel comfortable.

1:11:26Shannon Sharpe:You feel comfortable carrying this weight around? I feel great. I feel great. You know, I'm just ready. I'm just ready to go out there and do my thing. All right. Well, bud, look, this is the last one we got to wrap on, Joe. Last one? Listen, I just want to make sure, do me a favor. I know this is not really returning to the fight. I just want to make sure Andre Ward is in attendance because we got some unfinished minutes. He on the commentary. Leave him alone, man. I told you he's going to whoop your butt, man. Just make sure he's there. He going to stop you. Nah, but that's what I do, boy. We cut from the sand.

1:12:08Hey, hey, hey. You remember you was talking stuff to that big dude. I forgot his name, the football player. James. Yeah, Debo. James, hey, I'm going to go. Keep your ass.

1:12:19Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Debo's going to grab your little ass up. Hey, hey, bud, make sure you in attendance. Bud, make sure you there for that. Hey, Debo's going to grab you like shit and grab me.

1:12:33Who's side you on, bud? I don't know. Nobody's side. I'm just saying. Debo's going to grab you like shit and grab me. Hey, man, listen, I got this. Just make sure you're there when I whoop him. When I whoop him, just make sure you're there. And then Andre next.

1:12:48Shannon Sharpe:Bud, I appreciate your time, man. Congratulations. Best of luck on the fight on Saturday night. We will be in attendance. And I want to be able to say, you know what? I was in attendance when Bud Crawford shocked the world. Good luck. And we'll talk to you after the fight. Appreciate it. Bud Crawford. Yeah. It's always great having Bud. But, I mean, anytime I'm around, I mean, I did the first interview a couple of months ago, and he's just like, like you've been knowing him. I mean, he makes you feel like you've been knowing him your entire life. It was great to have him, wishing the best of luck.
