In short

This episode is a “best of NBA news” discussion focused on three main storylines: Zion Williamson’s summer work and what it means for his next contract/extension timeline; Anthony Davis and the Washington Wizards’ reported extension talks with agent Rich Paul; and LeBron James’ GOAT debate plus his reported move to Philadelphia and how that affects the Eastern Conference. The hosts argue that “obsession” and routine drive greatness, and that teams/organizations also chase wins and rings, so criticism of player movement is inconsistent. They also debate LeBron’s GOAT case: great players don’t need to stay on one team, and LeBron’s production includes Finals appearances, Finals MVP, and all-NBA selections across multiple stops. Notable examples include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar being traded (Milwaukee to LA), Shaq being traded (Orlando/Lakers), and comparisons to MJ, Bill Russell’s 11 rings, and Kevin Durant’s Hall of Fame “Supersonics” jersey idea.

1:21Your Duolingo is not going to come back to you when a man is inside of you. Oh, no! I'm Julie Pinheiro, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first. 2:01What are you doing with my belt? To Bill Burr. I don't think I've ever met somebody so exactly out of their mind as I am. And now, we even have more great guests coming up, including the great John Turturro.

2:12Joe Johnson:It's called happiness. Delivering happiness. And many, many more. Open your free iHeartRadio app, search Delivering Happiness with Nick Turturro, and listen now. This is Chelsea Handler from Dear Chelsea. Every week, the news gets worse, the world gets crazier, and Yamanika is here to tell whoever's responsible, you're the problem. 2:51Shannon Sharpe:The Wizards and Anthony Davis' agent, Rich Paul, have decided to wait and talk for the potential extension until after the season starts. AD becomes eligible today to sign an extension worth up to four years,$275 million. One source, Coach Shams, this gives both sides the first 20 games to marinate on whether to pay AD or not. Joe, do you believe 20 games is enough to see if AD is worth$275 million over four years? Hey, listen, it gives me a nice little sample size, and it keeps some fire under AD. You know, you got to show me something, Uncle Ocho. And in them 20 games, I don't need you taking no games off.

3:31Shannon Sharpe:I need you because you say you're going to play 82. Now, it's been reported that he's not really saying he's going to play 82 games. I'll say 72 at this point. I'm just telling you what he said. That man said he's playing all 82. I want to see AD get back to dominating. Yeah, they'll break him off. He better be cutting cheese, boy, in the first 20 games. I know that. Boy, hey, hey, hey, Ocho, that'll be all on my mind, but the first 20 games, I got to come in and show out. Yeah. What you thinking, Ocho?

3:58Joe Johnson:I mean, listen, based on his injury history, based on what we've seen almost every single season, he's always been hurt. For sure. I ain't never knocking on nobody when it come to making any money. You know, four years, 275, he's earned that. He one of the best fours, best fives, one of the best stretches, you know, to ever play the game. And I'm just saying, I'm just thinking about he's always hurt most of the time. But, you know, get your money. Get your money, young boy. I can't knock that.

4:31Shannon Sharpe:And, and, Uncle Ocho, they just gave Trey Young like 212. Yeah. Something similar to that. You know what I mean? Like the Wizards, that's going to be a lot of money for a team who wasn't in the damn playoffs last year. You know what I mean? So jump out the gate, you know, show some promise. You know, help this young AJ to bounce out. Hopefully that all blends and meshes well together. Yeah, man, they, hey.

5:03Shannon Sharpe:Zion, oh, Joe Dumars told Zion Williamson, to be great at basketball, you have to be obsessed with it. Per what? Where have they heard that word obsessed? and about to be great at something. Isn't that what we talk about all the time? Yeah, it's the only way to be great at something. But why wouldn't they give us credit when we say, how many times we done said this, don't you? Yeah, over and over. You got to be obsessed with it. But, okay, you can't casually become great in the league. What I've seen from him this summer is he's obsessed with the work he's putting in, And this is really encouraging for me that he's putting in this type of work.

5:45Shannon Sharpe:That's all we've been saying.

5:48Joe Johnson:Hey. Hey, I got a question for you, Unc. And Joe. Yes. What's that? This work he's putting in, is this a contract here?

6:00Shannon Sharpe:I don't. Is it really, Unc? I think he's eligible to sign an extension this summer. Oh, yeah. You mean next summer, when next summer come? Yes. Oh, yeah, he's trying to get that 300 done. All the NBA will do it for you.

6:20Joe Johnson:You see what I mean? Yeah. You see what it'll take? To get you to be obsessed? Or it's time to get paid? Okay, now I'm going to lock in.

6:29Shannon Sharpe:A commitment, a singular focus. But, hey, hey, but if you do get that prize, you still got to stay locked in, man. You can't exhale. Hell, that's all we've been talking about with Zion, man. If he put the work in, because I'm telling y 'all, man, when that man plays, Ocho, he going to give you at least 26. Yeah, every time. And that's a guy who ain't even really in tip-top shape. Now, from that picture that we seen a couple weeks ago, man, if that man look anything like that coming into the season, he's able to sustain that. He's going to be unstoppable, bro. I'm telling you. Unstoppable. he was eligible, Joe, he was eligible this offseason for an agent but there's been no movement.

7:12Shannon Sharpe:Why would you? They say we see, they say holler at us next year, bro. Why would you? You ain't show me that you was worthy of that so, okay, come out here and show me something this season. Boy, we're back to bring his truck up.

7:26Joe Johnson:Now he got to prove himself.

7:28Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, he gonna do that, bro. And the little bit of greatness that I had, I know what I did. I can imagine what a Tiger Woods, a Michael Jordan, a Serena Williams, a LeBron James, a Tom Brady, a Peyton Manning. I can just imagine. I can just imagine. A Denzel Washington. A Tom Hanks. A Samuel L. Jackson. A Viola Davis. A Meryl Streep. I can just imagine. There's an obsession. You're obsessed with this. It's hard when you have, name something that you achieve that you want less of. When you achieve great, it's like, nah, I don't have enough. I don't want that no more. I'm cool with that.

8:23Shannon Sharpe:And it's so monotonous. It's so boring to be great. Because guess what? I'm doing the same Joe Johnson taking his ass in the gym and shooting a thousand damn shots every single day. And no matter how he does it, I don't care if he gets somebody throwing the ball. I don't care if he go chasing his damn self. He's still shooting a thousand boring-ass shots. Hey, hey. And Serena hitting that ball forehand, backhand, forehand, backhand, slice, ad court, fork, all that. Hey. Until you develop a routine, bro. Yeah. I'm talking about how to stick to it. I ain't talking about do it on the days that you feel like it.

9:04Shannon Sharpe:I'm talking about on them damn days you don't feel like it. That's what you get. Okay, Ocho, I've been telling my son, man, since he was eight, nine years old, hey, bro, you got to develop a routine. Got to have a routine. You got to have something that you do on a day-to-day basis, regardless of how the hell you feel. You got to get it done, bro. And if that's that, getting up shots, working on your handle, you trying to become a better player, because there's too many guys out here who are hungry, bro. Yeah. When you realize that you're not the only one that have this dream, that's what you got to realize.

9:40Shannon Sharpe:I don't care what your dream is. Somebody else got that same dream. Man, Ocho, I could have been a little kid and dreamed like, man, I want to fly the damn space shuttle. There are five other people that got that same damn dream want to fly the space shuttle. Man, stop dreaming my dream, damn it. You wouldn't even think about no space shuttle until I started dreaming about it. basketball, baseball, whatever the case may be, CEO, entrepreneur.

10:11Uh-oh.

10:13Shannon Sharpe:Somebody, what are you doing? Because the only thing that come to sleep is a dream. You got to get up and make it work.

10:22Joe Johnson:And that's the problem. That's the difference, though. Not too many people willing to put in the work to make those dreams come true. a very small percentage. And that small percentage is known as the 1%.

10:35Shannon Sharpe:Because everybody wants to dream, but they don't want to put their heart, they don't want to put their grind in. Absolutely not. Hey, hey, hey. The Bible teaches. Go ahead, Joe. If you want the game to come easy, I don't care what sport you playing, hey, man, your workout regimen, it's got to be harder than damn games.

10:56Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. The Bible tells us you can't enter the kingdom of heaven unless you die. Everybody wants to go to heaven. Don't nobody want to die. Everybody want to be successful. Everybody want to be wealthy. Ain't nobody trying to do no damn work. That's why the lottery. What does the lottery require? Go in there, drop$2, drop$3, drop$5 down. Boom, that's it. What if I told you if you work really, really hard? What if I told you you work really, really hard? You could have$200 million. You could have$300 million.

11:37Shannon Sharpe:Man, I ain't really trying to work that hard. Do you know how many times people have told me I ain't trying to work that hard? I ain't trying to eat like that? Yeah, okay.

11:50Shannon Sharpe:I mean, you see when I was talking with my teammates? TD said, man, I was looking around. I said, okay, that's what greatness looked like. Then I found out what to do. I ain't really trying to be that great.

12:05Shannon Sharpe:It ain't that complicated. They right. I had my stuff stacked. I had my little chicken breast. I had rice. I had green beans. I had broccoli. That's all I had. And I had water. That's it. Don't come over to my house and think you're going to eat. You're going to eat tater chips and cookies and oatmeal pies. oatmeal pies and you're not you're not you get the water you man this food bland okay it works for me man I think I picture myself here and this this steak this ribeye man these rios that's what I pictured in my mind

12:45I wasn't going back to Glenville that was not an option for me

12:53Shannon Sharpe:Zion, boy, you got so much ability. You got so much God-given ability. But I love what – you know what I love? I love when athletes that have won, that have accomplished, or been great, transcendent, historically great. Joe Dumars is a Hall of Famer. Joe Dumars is a finals MVP. Knows what it takes to get there. I think he went to Magnet State. I think that's where Joe went. I don't even know. it ain't that complicated

13:26Shannon Sharpe:you go to if you play a professional sports and you go to the restaurant Ocho and Joe there are two things on the menu wins and losses

13:40Shannon Sharpe:that's all I serve it at my restaurant that's all I serve Joe how the hell the fresh dobes You get a hot L or you get a fresh dub. That's all I got for you. That's it.

13:57Shannon Sharpe:Bill Simmons thinks Kevin Durant goes into the Hall of Fame. He'll be wearing a Supersonics jersey. And why do you think that? I think he'd do the Supersonics. That's the move, yeah? It's like he loves Seattle. I would have loved to play there. But the honor of the Sonics, I'm going to be a Sonic. What you thinking, Joe? Do you think because of all the success that OKC has had since he left, do you think this plays a role in that?

14:35Shannon Sharpe:Probably. I mean, he did go to three championships with the Heat. I mean, excuse me, with the Warriors. He won two there. He didn't have the level of success, a team success. He enjoyed success as an individual. in Brooklyn. Didn't have this level of success, individual success. He went to the All-Star game. He was all-NBA selection at the Suns. And now he's in Houston. Yeah, I think OKC. I think OKC of the Super Suns. I don't see him going in as a warrior. No. No. Yeah. Yeah, no, he ain't going to go in as a warrior. But I think, you know, him being the number two pick, the number two pick that year behind Greg Oden.

15:23Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. And Seattle really giving him an opportunity and really, really, really trusting him with the franchise. I think he really, you know, he has a special place in his heart for him. I can see that, Joe. I can definitely see that. But damn. To go in, to go to. They ain't like they got a whole lot of superstars. I mean, you know, Hall of Famers. Outside of Gary Payton, Sean Kemp. GP? Yeah, GP. But GP went in the Hall of Fame. He was a superstar. But what you call him? Sean Kemp? Rain Manning going in the Hall. Is Gus Williams? Is the Wizard in the Hall? I don't know. Dennis Johnson? But most people probably remember DJ from the Celtics.

16:18Shannon Sharpe:Wally Walker, Jack Sigma, Marvin Webster. Hold on, but... Downtown Freddie Brown. Are they supposed to be bringing the team back to Seattle? Mm-hmm. Yes. Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here. You know us, or rather, you know them. Tony and Candice, Nina and Lance, Spike, and yes, the chicken. We've played a lot of iconic characters over the years, but today we're showing up as ourselves to tell you about Podlandia, AO Rewatch, our brand new podcast. Each week, we'll revisit an episode of Portlandia from the very beginning, breaking down the sketches, exploring the backstories of our most iconic characters, revisiting the Portland locations you know and love, and opening up about our creative process.

17:02How did any of this get made? Why do we think that was a good idea? We're ready to talk about it. And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life. guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Kreisel, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more. Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song, a melody. Well, I thought he was going to write, I thought you were all going to write a song. 18:11Oh, that's fantastic. And you make it on, you make your own. That's great. I call him Taro Reed. That's a good name. They're all named after cast members of American Pie. Yeah. Oh, gotcha. I never looked up if she was in this, but I call him Leachie Sobieski. I don't think she was in American Pie, but I still like that. Haven't looked it up. Haven't looked it up. She was prominent around the same time. Then Mary Steenburgen. Why are you guys talking to me like, why are you talking so down to me that you think I don't understand your little play game? I've shared a slice with everyone, from Seth Rollins. What are you doing with my belt? To Alex Rodriguez.

21:19Joe Johnson:Just to let you people know, we're talking to one of the goats here. To Bill Burr. I don't think I've ever met somebody so exactly out of their mind as I am. Open your free iHeartRadio app, search Delivering Happiness with Nick Turturro, and listen now.

21:50Shannon Sharpe:What happened, man? y 'all I'm going to have to let you after this one first back for Scott on LeBron James being considered a goal he says great players don't join multiple teams most of us judge LeBron based on guys that just mentioned I'll throw one more guy in there Kareem Abdul-Jabbar he got traded for Milwaukee to LA right so two teams his whole career MJ two teams basically you know in the whole career so when you're judging LeBron you're looking at a guy of the greatest players of all time and they what they did at those organization. They basically never left. Come on, man. Huh? Hey, listen.

22:30Shannon Sharpe:I don't know why they go at Bron so much. Maybe it's because he did lead the Lakers, considering the fact that he could have went back there. He could have went back to LA, Ocho. But come on, man. I don't know why he gets the scrutiny that he gets. You know, it's okay, man. He ain't got a... Well, right now, they got a podcast. And you beat him up right now, you're going to get clicks and likes. You're going to get mentions. Now, he said, the fact of the matter, he said multiple teams. Multiple teams mean more than one. Back then, it's kind of like in the NFL. Guys couldn't move like they can now, Ocho.

23:04Shannon Sharpe:Guys couldn't move like they move in basketball. So, I guess Shaq couldn't be considered a great player. KD can't be considered a great player. LeBron, Charles Barkley, Carl Malone, Moses Malone, Akeem Olajuwon, Patrick Litt. Come on, what are we doing, man? What are we doing? I don't care if he went to 20 teams. How good was he on those teams? Every team he played for, they won a championship. Every team that he played for, he was an all-NBA selection. How many guys can say, you know what, I've been on four different teams and I've been an all-NBA selection on all of them? Probably no. Every team that I've played for, I've gone to an NBA Finals.

23:45Shannon Sharpe:Three of those are four teams that I've been on. I've won an NBA Finals. I've won a Finals MVP. Yeah, it would be great. People always talk about players not being loyal. But hold on. You said something very interesting. And I love B. Scott. And B. Scott know this because I used to work. We used to work out in the same gym when I was in L.A. And I see him, and we always mess up. We end up talking for an hour and mess up our workout because we talking basketball, we talking football. But the fact of the matter is, Milwaukee traded Kareem. Where was the loyalty? Where was the loyalty? The Lakers traded Shaq.

24:23Shannon Sharpe:Where was the loyalty? Orlando traded Shaq. Where was the loyalty? We expect loyalty from the players, but we don't demand loyalty from the organization. The organization says, we're doing what's in the best interest of the organization. A player does what's in the best interest. Oh, he's running from time. He's running. He's chasing rings. What are teams chasing? Why did Miami trade for Giannis? You don't think they're chasing rings? Yeah, yeah. Why did 76ers trade for Jalen Brown? You don't think they're chasing rings? What are we doing here? If you're in a sport, aren't you trying to win said championship of your sport?

25:04Shannon Sharpe:I would like to think so. Now, maybe everybody's not under that same. Everybody ain't trying to win. Everybody just because you're going to make X amount of dollars whether you win or lose. Okay, I get all that. But I just don't get this. So now the man can't be, it would be great if guys could have stayed like the old Celtics. You know, for the most part, those guys stayed there. And Elgin Baylor stayed there. And Jerry West stayed there. But it's not like that anymore. Guys, y 'all know that. B. Scott, you know in today's game, football ain't the same. Guys move. Baseball ain't the same. Baseball always traded their guys.

25:42Shannon Sharpe:That means hell, they traded Babe Ruth, so ain't nothing. Frank Robinson got traded. Hell, he was an MVP in the league in trading, went and got another MVP. He and Shohei, the only two ever did that. But I just don't get this. I just don't get it. I don't get it. Ocho, chime in, Ocho. What do you think?

25:57Joe Johnson:I mean, listen, they're always going to find something wrong because of the person it is. We've never seen anything happen like this before. We've never seen anything done like this before. Because he's a king, because he sits atop that mountain, everyone's going to take shots at him. The fact that he's still doing it today at 42 years old, going into his 24th season, I just don't understand. Obviously, I don't know the ins and outs of basketball and have a great knowledge of it the way you two do, but I do understand how great LeBron is. And because he's been great for so long and been consistent at what he does for so long, they're going to find every little way to nitpick at the way he's won.

26:36Shannon Sharpe:Man. Can I ask you a question, guys? Let's just say for the sake of argument, Kobe had to win to the, when Kobe asked for a trade, he goes to Chicago and win a championship. And then all of a sudden, after several years, he goes to another team and wins another championship. As he looked, how is he viewed? He's still going to be great. Yeah.

27:05Shannon Sharpe:I've never seen anything like this. man no but if the man got into a skin they want lebron to be into a scandal so bad that's what it is they want because he you can't be this perfect ain't no way you ain't got no speeding ticket ain't nobody ever seen you in no salacious details we ain't seen nothing you too perfect and we don't like it they gotta find a way to knock you down got to everybody is waiting I shouldn't say everybody, but a lot of people are waiting. I told you. I knew it. Hey, but it's good, though. It's good. It's good for LeBron. You know, all he needs is a little something to get him going, Uncle Ocho.

27:48You know.

27:49Shannon Sharpe:Some people, some people got, hey, some people, my mom worked at a job, she worked at Nubisco for 34 years. My stepdad worked there for 36 years. How many people work at the same job ever? How many times do you think people change jobs in their life? He didn't change jobs. He just changed teams.

28:13Shannon Sharpe:I wonder how we look at it. Y 'all sound ridiculous. He's supposed to do what y 'all want him to do. If Cleveland was a better city and they could have – look, I get it. I really do. If Cleveland had a general manager like a Bob Myers, if they had a guy like a Jerry West, if they had a general manager like a Jerry Krause that could draft talent, could bring talent in, could draft, and then could trade and get the right pieces. I don't think LeBron leads Cleveland. He knew he couldn't win there. And we all, y 'all already said, this man would have had all those points and no check and no rings.

28:52Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all would have killed him even more. Now he got ring. Now he four and six. He went to the finals 10 times. He went 10 times. All right. Michael's 6-0. Well, damn, he played 15 years. What happened the other nine years? Hey, if Brown didn't get out of Cleveland, Ocho, ain't no way in hell he beat that Celtics team. Not with KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen? Ray Allen. He had to get out of there, man. Yes. But hold on, Ocho, Joe. Did anybody beat up Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen for going to join Paul Pierce? They said they should have left earlier. Hell.

29:33Yeah.

29:37Shannon Sharpe:A lot of people that beat him up. Even my guy Chuck. Chuck, why did Chuck leave Philly? Because he said he couldn't win a championship in Philly, so he went and joined. And he tried to make it seem like Marlon wasn't good. Dan Marlon was a damn good defender. Was it all in B? Kevin Johnson. As a matter of fact, didn't Kevin Johnson have the... the NBA Finals. He almost had them in the NBA Finals. Houston beat them. They were a good team. Tom Chambers was a damn good player. Let's not make it seem like that.

30:17Shannon Sharpe:Got Scottie Pippen talking about he better than LeBron James because he got six rings.

30:26Shannon Sharpe:but you was never the best player Scotty you messed up you had an opportunity to do something special but when you didn't take your ass back in that game and Tony Kukul hit that shot and won the ball game ain't nobody looked at you the same since

30:42Shannon Sharpe:everybody saw on national TV you actually quit on your team you're a phenomenal player you're a top 75 you're a top 50 player. You're not better than LeBron. You won't find one general manager. You won't find other than you and maybe Dennis Rodman that will say you're better than LeBron James. The only two players that will say you are better than LeBron James are yourself and Dennis Rodman. Ask the other 50, the all 50 NBA players if they think you better than LeBron. At what? Defense. You're not a better scorer. You're not a better rebounder. You're a better facilitator. You don't shoot the ball better than he did.

31:24Shannon Sharpe:You couldn't drive the ball better than he could. So I'm trying to figure out, other than play defense, what could you do better?

31:33Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all got to stop this, man. Come on now. The man ain't perfect. The man is not perfect. And I'm not finna sit here and tell nobody LeBron James is perfect. He's not. He's made some missteps. But this is getting outrageous here. This man said, what, ask who's great? I have six rings. Do you want individual accolades or championships? I want them both. Damn. When people ask me, Joe, people ask me all the time, would you rather win the Super Bowl or the Hall of Fame? I said, I'm glad I ain't got to make that choice.

32:04Shannon Sharpe:Hell, I'd take my jacket off and throw the rings on top of it. But they got to stop this, man. But see, that ring culture again. He got six rings and LeBron has four. He actually thinks he's better. So under that scenario, Yo, the greatest basketball player of all time is who, Ocho? Bill Russell. He has 11. Yeah. How many times have you ever heard somebody say, Bill Russell is the greatest basketball player ever, Joe? You ain't really heard it. He got 11 rings. He has, I mean, Sam, I think Sam Jones, I think Sam has 10. Havlicek has eight. Havlicek is eight and no. nobody ain't said Havlicek the best player they don't even mention Havlicek when they mention small forwards don't nobody mention John Havlicek duty they talk about Larry Bird they talk about Kevin Durant they talk about LeBron James Dominique Wilkins Elgin Baylor they talk about when last time you heard somebody mention John Havlicek he ain't no and he got some finals MVPs on top yeah Ocho yeah yeah

33:13Shannon Sharpe:they need to stop man this is getting It ain't going to stop, though. It's going to continue. As long as he's playing, Ocho, he's going to always catch criticism regardless. But who is he hurting, Ocho? Damn.

33:28Joe Johnson:Uh-oh. They dial up. Hey, why don't, until he get right, why don't they mention those other, why don't they mention, you know, the best ever with those that won the most rings since they always want to use rings as their reasoning?

33:42Shannon Sharpe:Why don't they mention Bill Russell? Because MJ came in and made the game sexy, Ocho. You know, he ain't got the most championships. Oh,

33:55Shannon Sharpe:yeah, he ain't got the most championships.

34:00Joe Johnson:Yeah. But when you're talking about, like, defying gravity

34:05Shannon Sharpe:and changing the way that we view NBA basketball. Yes, sir. Jordan led that charge, bro. Dr. J was before him, and then Jordan came. yeah he changed it he changed it and the game has been it's been in great hands ever since bro he took it to a whole another level but even when even when Michael Jordan had no rings and Magic and Bird had all the rings they said he was the goat so they were saying that and he had no rings

34:41Shannon Sharpe:Magic had five before he won any Bird had three before he won any. And they said Michael was a better player.

34:51Shannon Sharpe:All those Celtics had 11, 10, 9, Sam Jones, Casey Jones, Tom Heinsohn, Mr. Russell, John Havlicek, all those guys. Bob Cousy. Bob Cousy got like 7-8 range. Nah, Celtics rich in history when it comes to winning, Ocho. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They used to never lose no damn championship. How you think As a matter of fact they won like eight championships In a row

35:24Shannon Sharpe:Lost to the St. Louis Hawks And then wiped the table with everybody else from then on We ain't gonna see that ever again No teams Teams running the table like that Eight straight You might not Joe you might not even see a repeat Yeah you right Think about it. It's been a decade since you saw a repeat with the Warriors. Yeah. It's been a decade. Before the Warriors, it was the Lakers, huh? Yes. Man. No, the Heat. Oh, that's right.

35:57Joe Johnson:2012. The Heat went 12-13.

35:59Shannon Sharpe:Then the Lakers 9-10, and then the Lakers 3-peated. And then the Bulls 3-peated, and then the Bulls 3-peated. And in between the 3-peat was the Rockets 2-peat, back-to-back.

36:13Shannon Sharpe:but I don't get this. USA Today released their top 10 coaches on the hot seat heading into 2026. Shane Steichen, the coach, number one. Jess Aaron Glenn, number two. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles, number three. Zach Taylor, four. Dan Quinn, five. Nick Sirianni, six. Matt LaFleur, seven. Clint Kubiak? How Clint Kubiak on the hot seat? He just got there.

36:44Joe Johnson:Hold on. Well, Aaron Glenn just got there, too.

36:47Shannon Sharpe:He on the hot seat. Damn. Man, you know the Jets don't play O 'Job.

36:54Joe Johnson:Listen, I understand that. Most of the time, they give us those opportunities. You know damn well we're not going to be able to turn anything around. In order to turn them around, you need at least three to four years to do so. So, hey, it is what it is. And how the hell is Shane Steichen on the hot seat with the way they played last year?

37:13Shannon Sharpe:Well, do you remember they got up to that great start, Ocho? They was the number one seed in the AFC. And then what's he talking about? Danny Dimes got hurt.

37:19Joe Johnson:So you can't put the coach on the hot seat when he was playing as well as you were.

37:26Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that lady, she took over. The three daughters took over. But one of them's in charge. I forget her name. She don't play.

37:34Joe Johnson:And Zach Taylor being on the hot seat, that don't make no sense. because one thing you do know about Mr. Brown, if there's a coach in the contract, he's going to play the entirety of that contract out. He's not fighting.

37:45Shannon Sharpe:Didn't he just sign an extension?

37:47Joe Johnson:Exactly, and he ain't firing nobody, so that one don't make no sense. There was somebody else. There's one more name you said that didn't make any sense to me that just got there.

37:56Shannon Sharpe:Sirianni. Todd Bowles, Dan Quinn, Nick Sirianni. Sirianni.

38:00Joe Johnson:Okay, Sirianni, I can see.

38:02Shannon Sharpe:Matt LaFleur for the Packers.

38:04Joe Johnson:Okay, I can see that too. Again, these are situations where you think about the Packers team, as great as they are, the expectations are extremely high. The expectations are extremely high over there, and they're feeling if they don't play well this season, which I'm sure they will do because offensively they're good, defensively they're sound, I think they might move in different directions. I can see that happening. As great as the Packers are. Excuse me, not great, as good as the Packers are. Let me see who else.

38:38Shannon Sharpe:What the hell? Ocho, he just got the job. This is his first year. He already on the hot seat?

38:45Joe Johnson:Well, hell, Aaron Glenn just got there. How he on the hot seat already? Look what he got to work with. And bringing another coach in, still not having anything to work with, it's still going to give you the same goddamn results. Yeah.

38:59Shannon Sharpe:Got to have some players. And then Patriots, Mike Vrabel.

39:03Joe Johnson:Man, all right, now they just putting anything on there now. They just put anything on there. You know, good and well, Mike Vrabel ain't on no hot seat, man.

39:11Shannon Sharpe:The man just went to the damn Super Bowl.

39:13Joe Johnson:You know what? At that point, what, what, what? Who is it? Who wrote this? Who wrote this?

39:18Shannon Sharpe:USA Today.

39:20Joe Johnson:He made it. He made it. All right. Hey, they just filling out names. It's about two or three on that that actually makes sense.

39:32Shannon Sharpe:Yes. Yes. And if they were going to get rid of Raven for the trade, even though that doesn't impact. I don't think I don't think anything that transpired this offseason and we know what transpired this offseason. Does that impact his ability to coach this team? Because when I make a move, I'm looking at it. OK, how does this impact that his said behavior? Does it impact this team? not.

39:56Joe Johnson:I wish more people were inside these locker rooms to see how these players really don't give to you-know-what.

40:04Shannon Sharpe:I don't care nothing. Man, I ain't studying what that man got going on. I got my own issues. Hello. My baby mama dragging me back to court talking about she want more money. You think I worry about what the hell he got going on? Say that a little louder for the people in the back, for the people who probably man. Yeah. Joe, I for real, man. I ain't worried about what somebody else got going on. I got, but they don't even know.

40:32Joe Johnson:Oh, man. Hey. I just, you know what? I wish, I wish, I don't know how to...

40:50Joe Johnson:Hey, Unk, what you want? Dial up over there? Hey, Joe. My co-parents sent fire to me.

41:01Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, we can't eat. Yeah. Oh, that was me. I think that was me, guys. This internet here, we won't be back in the hotel no more. I promise you. Were you on dial-up over there? Hey, they ain't got too many more times to mess up with you. You done with them. I'm done. I'm done. I was done with them this time. They booked this hotel without my knowledge. But it won't happen again. You're good. I promise you. Yeah, but whatever code you got going on, as long as it's not a medical emergency, as long as it does involve life and death, I got my own issues. Like I say, my co-parent got me under the gun.

41:49Shannon Sharpe:Man, leave me alone. No, no. I ain't done with you yet. What? What you mean you ain't done with me yet? Come on, Joe. Come on, Joe. Girl, I ain't bothering you.

42:02Joe Johnson:Oh, no. Oh, oh, no. The funny thing about it is. I got something for you. It's a cold game, boy. Hey, if you were able to tap in to the lives of each individual player and the issues that they have going on, along with the so-called scandal between coach and the reporter they would put what they got going on to shame. Yeah, for sure. They would put it to shame. I mean, people have no... Oh, man, it just... I'm not here to speak on that, but...

42:34Shannon Sharpe:You know what happened, Ocho? It just because it played out publicly. Damn.

42:47Joe Johnson:Damn

42:51Joe Johnson:You might need a little hot spot over there boy Is that

43:00A million

43:01Shannon Sharpe:The person got his life It is what it is

43:09Joe Johnson:Hey Hey Hey We ain't hear nothing you just said Yeah, boy. I can hear y 'all, though. Yeah, you can hear us now. Oh, yeah. I thought Joe was froze for a minute. Joe wasn't moving. Nah, I'm locked in. Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here. You know us, or rather, you know them. Tony and Candace, Nina and Lance, Spike, and yes, the chicken.

43:58How did any of this get made? Why do we think that was a good idea? We're ready to talk about it. And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life. Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Kreisel, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more. Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song, a melody. Well, I thought he was going to write, I thought you were all going to write a song for me. I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia Ayo Rewatch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

44:36On Solita, we share the messy stories of traveling alone as a woman. Your Duolingo is not going to come back to you when a man is inside of you. Oh no! I'm Julie Pinheiro, and I travel by myself because it's a rare space where I can say yes without asking anyone else first. I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility. Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people, and they were like, you smiled at us, not a lot of people smile around here. I can wait four hours for the next bus or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle. It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is and not the lies you're sold about it.

45:22So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your first trip, I hope you listen to Solita on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, this is Hayes Davenport. And Sean Clements. We host the podcast Hollywood Handbook. Every episode, we're trying to help our guests improve their careers by mainly focusing on how they can help us improve our careers. The show is famously super accessible, so you can easily jump into any of our 650 episodes and understand what's going on. We recommend some of our recent episodes with Ben Stiller. The definition of what is a movie has kind of changed anyway, too, right?

45:58What do you think it is now? It's images and words being spoken, captured by some sort of technology. Danny McBride. He loves Boba. Oh, that's fantastic. And you make it on, you make your own. That's great. I call him Taro Reed. That's a good name. They're all named after cast members of American Pie. Yeah. Oh, gotcha. I call, I don't, I never looked up if she was in this, but I call him Leachie Sobieski. Yeah, I don't think she was in American Pie, but I still like that. Haven't looked it up. Haven't looked it up. She was prominent around the same time. Then Mary Steenburgen. Why are you guys talking to me like, why are you talking so down?

46:37to me that you think I don't understand your little play game. I just really am trying to set you up for success here. Listen to Hollywood Handbook on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Nick Turturro. You probably know me from NYPD Blue, The Longest Yard or Spike Lee's Black Klansman. But I'm also from Queens, which means I know pizza. And on my new podcast, Delivering Happiness with Nick Turturro I deliver pizza from Prince Street Pizza to a new guest. Are you delivering pizza now? Then we sit down for a real conversation. I've shared a slice with everyone, from Seth Rollins.

47:13What are you doing with my belt? To Alex Rodriguez. Just to let you people know, we're talking to one of the goats here. To Bill Burr. I don't think I've ever met somebody so exactly out of their mind as I am. And now, we even have more great guests coming up, including the great John Turturro.

47:29Joe Johnson:It's called happiness. Delivering happiness. Mariano Rivera. Oh my God. And many, many more. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Delivering Happiness with Nick DeTuro. And listen now. This is Chelsea Handler from Dear Chelsea. Every week, the news gets worse, the world gets crazier, and Yamanika is here to tell whoever's responsible, you're the problem. 48:46Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe and Joe, there's a big news drop while we were off. LeBron is going to the city of brotherly love. He's teaming up with Jalen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey. Let's listen to JB. be he was on the stream i think tonight talking about teaming up with lebron let's take a listen to what you had to say super excited for this upcoming season yo we got bron and like what an opportunity that is like obviously everybody's gonna say whatever they want to say and it's gonna be a bunch of media this whole entire season but like for me like what an opportunity is to learn i one of my favorite things to do is to learn despite what people may say despite what people may feel about.

49:26My favorite thing to do is to learn. I love learning. So, like, to have the opportunity to learn, one, from one of the, if not the greatest player of all time, you know, I get an opportunity to, like, on the court, off the court, learn and gather experiences that can accumulate to my own knowledge base.

49:47Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, for the longest time you've been telling the chat and Joe and I that he's going to Miami. Are you surprised that the pivot, because a lot of people said, okay, Miami, it could be Cleveland going home for the final chapter. Dorothy said in the Wither Bonds, there's no place like home. There's no place like home. A lot of people now say, well, I don't really think, and you hear Draymond say, I don't think Golden State was an option because of Steph and the heated rivalry between the two. But he pivots and he goes to Philly. Yes. What are your thoughts not going to Miami, and then are you surprised that he ended up in Philly, and what do we expect from them?

50:23Shannon Sharpe:this year?

50:23Joe Johnson:Well, obviously I'm not surprised at all. Obviously me being a Florida native, a Miami native, a supporter of the Miami Heat, I always want what's best for that team. LeBron being free. I've kind of guessed right, you know, for the most part when it came to free agency with certain players, with Giannis coming here. And I thought, honestly, I thought LeBron was coming as well. I think one of the things that did hurt us is us not having shooters, not having anyone on the perimeter that can really shoot the ball. I think it's a good decision on LeBron's part, especially at 41, 42 years old and his 23rd, 24th year in the league, in the NBA in general.

51:00Joe Johnson:This is a chance, an opportunity to go to a team where the supporting cast is extremely stellar. We don't have to do that much. I think this is a team where he doesn't have to carry the load. He has Maxie. He had Jalen Brown. He has Eskim. He has Embiid. So that is like, to me, excuse my reference and analogy and using in football sense with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They needed one piece to get over the hump. Coming off one season with Joe when they had James Winston, it was his 30-30 year, 30 touchdowns. What a phenomenal team, but he had 30 interceptions. I think that missing piece to the Philadelphia Sixers, trusting the process piece that can get them to their end goal is adding LeBron to that team.

51:44Joe Johnson:and this might be the year they do it and come out the East. What you think, Joe?

51:48Shannon Sharpe:Man, listen, I've been telling y 'all this. Since we first heard the rumors, Ocho was like, oh, no. And honestly, the Sixers team wasn't the team that I thought he was going to, but, hey, man, make it make sense for me. When I hear JB come out and speak the way he speaks, saying that he's looking to learn, he kept saying the word learn. Man, it says a lot. You know, JB's character has been somewhat assassinated. Has been assassinated because of analytics saying that he's not a great player, bro. And I think he fuels it. He's going to fuel from that. And he's going to use this season, bro, to help the Sixers try and win a title.

52:30Shannon Sharpe:I think LeBron kind of understood that. Having Maxie, having Edge come, having JB, having MB. Damn, man, I could just come out and orchestrate this thing, Ocho. I ain't got to do a whole hell of a lot. You know what I mean? So it makes a lot of sense to me because we always talk about in the NBA, in order to win, when you look at teams like the Knicks, hell, they beat you in a multitude of ways with a multitude of people. This is what LeBron is looking for. He's looking to go to Philly and like, look, man, I ain't got to be historically great every damn night for us to win a game. I got this Maserati over here.

53:04Shannon Sharpe:I got this Lambo over here. Hey, man, we're going to pull all these things out and have a party. You feel me? So I like it. And when those guys buy in to whatever it is LeBron selling, bro, sky's the limit for the Sixers, man. I like it. I do too. I'm happy for him. I'm surprised. You said something very interesting, Joe, about the way the Knicks ended up winning the title because OG, it was OG one night. It was Cat one night. It was Josh Hart one night. It was always a different guy. Now, the guy they could constantly count on was Jalen Brunson. Yes, sir. Because when it got clutch time, when they were down all those points and somebody else might have helped them get reattached, but that's when Levin took the time.

53:46Shannon Sharpe:I think he's number 11. I think he ended up taking the ball game over. And so now you got to – we know what Joel Embiid is. He's a former MVP. We know what JB. JB with 28 points, was an all-NBA selection. Tyrese Maxey, back-to-back, if I'm not mistaken, back-to-back years, an all-star. Edgecombe is an up-and-coming player. They have the pieces. Now, fitting around him, KCP, I think he got a buyout. They're going to have to be able to knock down three. Ocho, you mentioned Tom Brady. And people are like, well, why would he go to Tampa? They had two Pro Bowl receivers. They had an outstanding defense.

54:24Shannon Sharpe:Outstanding, young, homie, hungry, vicious. The same reason Peyton went to the Denver Broncos. Do y 'all remember what they had up there? Yes. Hello. They had Demarius Thomas, rest his soul. Eric Decker, Julius Thomas, no Sean Marino. They had a Vaughn Miller. They had Chris Harris Jr. They had Bradley Robey. Now, they got to add some other pieces. They go next year, they'll go get a DeMarcus Ware. They go get a Aqib to leave. And you see what happens. MVP for Peyton Manning. They get to the Super Bowl. They get thrashed in Super Bowl 48 against the Seahawks. But they come back in 50 and they win it all.

55:01Shannon Sharpe:So, I'm happy for him. This seems, look, he's like But this is what I don't get, guys. I need y 'all to help me. Because I happen to be on Fox when LeBron went to L.A. Damn near to a man. He didn't go to L.A. to catch Michael Jordan. He went to be Michael B. Jordan. He went to retire. He's in la-la land. No way you thought this man could win a championship with the pieces that they had in L.A. They killed him. Chad, you know I'm telling the truth. Yeah, facts. That's what everybody said. He didn't go to catch Michael Jordan. He went to catch Michael B. Jordan. Now he goes to a team that have pieces that have really good players.

55:44Shannon Sharpe:Oh, he ring chasing. Yeah. I need y 'all to make it make sense. I need y 'all to pick a side. And whatever side you decide to stay on, I'm cool with it. But the very people that said he wasn't trying to win. So what is he supposed to do? Now, you said if LeBron was serious about winning, he would take less money. Well, how much more less money is$4 million? You want him to play for free? I don't think the NBA will let him play for free. But$4 million compared to what he was making. Now, it's reported that the Clippers offered him a one-year deal,$20 million. He's like, no, I don't want that. Maybe they could have cleared out$15 million for the Warriors.

56:22Shannon Sharpe:Maybe they could have got a little mid-level exception for the Miami Heat. I don't know. But all I know is he says he believes that he can be a piece toward winning a championship. All the people that said the very reason that he went to L.A. wasn't to win, you criticize him now that he goes back to Philly with a chance to win. You know, nobody thought Philly was stacked until he joined them. You know that? You ever noticed that? Hey, now he – hey, I'm like, well, damn. It's like I was always, well, Shannon, you can't play. Why can't I play? Because you make the team uneven. Well, damn. How I make the team money?

57:05Shannon Sharpe:I'm 10 just like you. Right. LeBron makes the team uneasy. A 42-year-old? Really? A 42-year-old, Joe? I thought he wasn't any good. Nah, nah. Come on, Unc. Y 'all see how that man take care of himself, how he in the gym every damn morning. Come on, man. That man, he playing for something, too. He playing for his legacy. He know going to Philly, hell, Unc, they ain't warning how long? How long it's been? 43 years. 1983. They swept the Lakers. 43 years. So you know, Bron got that and be like, man, look, I take this franchise. Ocho, I take this franchise, the Sixers, to the top. We get to the mountaintop and win?

57:43Shannon Sharpe:Come on, man. I ain't got to catch MJ. You know what I'm saying? But I've done something that no other guy in the NBA history. Four different teams that he would have won a championship with, Joe. Huh? This would be the four of teams. If he were to win a championship, it would be the four of teams. Miami, Cleveland, Lakers, now the Sixers. now Cleveland had never won a championship he helped get them one the last time the Heat had won a championship about 7 years last time the Lakers had won a championship it was what 10 so 10 years and now we're talking about 43 years but if you remember the year before in 82 they had lost to the Lakers they come back they get Mo and Mo said fo fo fo I be damn fo fo fo he got him up out of there

58:27Joe Johnson:yeah and you know the funny thing too Joe you mentioned his legacy. I think LeBron actually going to Philly. Let's just say he doesn't happen to win a championship and things don't go the way we think they may go. As far as his legacy is concerned, it's cemented at this point, Duncan Joe. It's cemented. I don't think he can do no wrong. There's nothing that can tarnish his legacy. But he can add to it, Ocho. It's cemented in history. He can add to it, but he can't do anything to actually harm it. Obviously, I want him to come here in Miami, understand the pieces that are missing for him to have a chance to...

58:58Joe Johnson:I mean, no, listen. I'm gonna see you. I'm gonna see you. I'm gonna see you. No, for real. Come on. Listen, I understand the pieces that are missing here in Miami. You know, thinking about it being too much, too much on him, not having the extras needed, you know, to be able to do what he needed to do down here in Miami. It's not, I'm happy for him. I'm not happy for him, but I'm happy for him.

59:20Shannon Sharpe:But help me understand, Joe, and you played the game. Why is it that him going to Philly and not winning a championship would harm his legacy, but Michael Jordan going to Washington did nothing to harm him. Oh, he was just going to have fun. He just wanted to play. You see? So let me ask you a question. Had he won a championship, would he have turned it down? What would you have said? Michael Jordan goes to Washington, wins seven. He's 7-0. Yeah. That's what would have been said. Yeah. I'm not making this up. See, hey, there's benefit. it. And Ocho, we had this discussion when we first started the show.

59:59Shannon Sharpe:And I said, Ocho, at some point in time, you realize the only thing left to do is to get old. Being 58 years of age and really understanding the game of basketball and seeing the transformation of it, I'm old enough to remember. I'm old enough to remember. And we're going to address the topic in a second about LeBron and Jalen Rose, what he had to say. But I just don't, I just need people to help me understand. What is it about this man that rubs you so wrong, that upsets so many people? We've never seen it. We've never seen a more polarizing figure. And once upon a time, I thought it was Tim Tebow.

1:00:38Shannon Sharpe:But this is Tim Tebow on steroids, growth hormone, insulin, decaduavulin, sustenance, 250, all that.

1:00:46Joe Johnson:Well, listen, the question you just asked is the reason why they don't like him. the question you just asked why don't they because we've never seen it before joe because the expectations that he had on his shoulders coming out of the high school many people thought he wouldn't be able to maintain it let alone exceed him the way he has he superseded everything not only his own personal goals hell everyone else's everyone else's expectations on the outside looking in he've exceeded theirs as well so the only thing left to do is for those they got to find something wrong with it. They got to. And every time they throw something at him, he come back with something else.

1:01:23Joe Johnson:And he's still going. At this age, still playing quality basketball. At his age. Still one of the best in the game. At his age. Of course, people aren't going to like that. And the funny thing about it is most of the hate, some of the hate is coming from those that played on the same type of hardwood he did.

1:01:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it's tough. You know, I think he's going to supersede the expectations, man. I think Brian understands and knows Ocho that, man, this comes with the territory, bro. You know what I'm saying? Like, this is just another stepping stone in the right direction and trying to make it a part of history. Going to Philly is definitely a risk, but I think it's the risk that he's willing to take. Knowing and understanding that, man, at that point guard spot, Ocho, you got to have a guard, bro. Who going to be able to get money? That's the most value position in basketball right now. Just like football is a quarterback.

1:02:17Shannon Sharpe:If you ain't got no good quarterback, hell, it's going to be hard to win, just like in basketball. Man, if your point guard can't get money, control both ends of the floor at some point, man, it's going to be hard to win in this league nowadays. Yeah. Joe, you said something I heard you while I was off camera. You said he understands that comes with the territory. Tell me in the history of the sport, a man that's faced this level of visceral when he's been this good, has nothing off the field. As far as we, he hasn't been in the blotter. He hasn't got a DUI. He's been exemplary, as far as we know, off the field, off the court.

1:02:56Shannon Sharpe:Married to his high school, been together since the eighth grade, raising three beautiful kids. I just need somebody to tell me. I just need somebody in the chat. Tell me what it is. Tell me the man that wasn't caught. He just played. Tell me what is it about him that elicits such a reaction, be it good or bad, with this man? Man, listen.

1:03:27Joe Johnson:I can't think of that joke.

1:03:29Shannon Sharpe:It's the admiration. It's the longevity. People tired of him. People tired of the glazing, bro. They tired of the glazing of LeBron. That's what they call it. They tired of it. You know what I mean? And when you've been great for so long, at some point, man, they're going to start throwing sticks. Let me ask you a question. Tell me the time that – do you remember – do you understand people have been glazing Michael Jordan since the shoe came out? Yeah. Yeah. In 84. Yeah. We're talking about 42 years. Yes, sir. We're talking about 42 years.

1:04:01Joe Johnson:Yeah, but you got to understand, Jordan has been a standard with no comparison. With no comparison. There was nothing to compare to it. therefore glazing and appreciating what Michael had done over the years not only uh on the court but off the court culturally what he's done for us culturally you know in general so it's kind of different now someone has come along that is comparable that to that of Michael Jordan and what he's done on the court now you have issues now you're splitting the committee up of those who enjoy the game of basketball so they're gonna they're gonna nitpick every it any in which way they can when it comes to those two.

1:04:35Shannon Sharpe:But LeBron's game is so, you know what, Joe? Completely different. If he, they didn't get mad at Kobe, who basically copied, he's a facsimile of Jordan. Yeah. If LeBron had did that, I was like, bro, come on now. If he had did what I did to my brother, everything that my brother did, I did. If he had did, I said, come on now, LeBron, damn. His game, the only thing that he got, well, two things. He got the number and he got the powder toss. But Jordan didn't throw the powder toss. I think he just patted in his hand like this. Now, he might have – I mean, people didn't put it on it like they do now.

1:05:11Shannon Sharpe:If you got a celebration, they got 15 – these guys got 15 handshakes. They got a handshake with every guy. They got a handshake with the camera lady. They got a handshake with – I was like, well, damn. How y 'all remember all this? Hey, that's Bruh. Hey, Bruh started all that. He started all that. He dabbed up the dude, the security dude at the damn front. No, when he comes before he come in. The dude at the desk, he dapping him up. Hey, we had one thing, Denver. My high salute. Okay, get it going, cook. That's all we got for you. But I just think the thing is, I believe that we can appreciate.

1:05:48Shannon Sharpe:Because you like Michael Jordan, that doesn't mean you have to hate Kobe or LeBron or any of the others. Because you like LeBron, that doesn't mean you have to dislike. Like, and it took me a while to get that. Because I get this a lot. When people say, and Joe, we was having a conversation. We had a conversation when I called you the other day in a couple of days and tell you how great a job you were doing. I said, Joe, I had to get out of this, Ocho. When somebody gave their opinion, they asked, okay, that's his list. That's his list. When people ask me, what's your favorite food? I'm like, chicken breast.

1:06:24Shannon Sharpe:Chicken breast diet? You don't like no ribs? You don't like no, bro. I ain't killed nobody. I say, that's fine. So you can have, but just because I like chicken breasts, that doesn't mean I got to poop on oxtails or ribs or lobster or shrimp. I can't eat shellfish. I'm allergic. But that's all I'm saying. We've never seen in the history of the game, and I go back, the first championship I can remember was the 76ers playing the Portland Trailblazers. Philly got out to a 2-0 lead. The Portland Trailblazers, Big Bill Roughton, Big Red, Dr. Jack Ramsey was the head coach. They had Lionel Hollis, a few other guys.

1:07:10Shannon Sharpe:But those were the two main guys. So I go back that far. That's 50 years. That's 50. So I remember that. I've never seen it. And all the years, I remember when NBA was on CBS, Bill Russell was calling games. How many of y 'all remember that? You remember Bill Russell was calling games, Joe? No, I don't. I ain't going to lie to you. Casey Joe, yeah, yeah, yeah, they call games. Yeah, all them, yeah. I ain't know that. Then it went to NBC. Marv Apple was play-by-play. Bill Costas. Peter Vesey was on the sideline. Amar Rashad, not one person, one person, nobody has had a relationship with a player like Amar Rashad had with Michael Jordan.

1:08:00Shannon Sharpe:Not one person ever said he glazed. Not one person ever said he was on the payroll. Not one person. Now, if you like a player, you're on the payroll. Tell me what they said to that, chat. And it's because how we ingest the information and how we see everything. And today, the media is different. It wasn't that much. You can only see that on the Amara Rashad show. You know what I mean? On the Sunday game of the week. You know what I mean? Now, we ingest so much, bro. And I feel like media is at an all-time high with a lot of former athletes, you know, giving back. That's a good thing, Joe. No, it is.

1:08:44Shannon Sharpe:I know it. That's what I'm saying. So many more. Because there are so many more outlets, Joe, there's so many more opportunities for you to get revenue. Back then, there was only one place. There you go. That was it? There you go. So you got so many people. It's a lot of people with different opinions.

1:09:05Shannon Sharpe:And that is your opinion. But let me ask you a question. When did this? So what were Michael Jordan fans called? Were they called fans or were they called stands? What was Kobe fans called? Were they called fans or were they called stands? What was Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Dr. J? What were their fans called? Were they called fans or were they called stands? Joe, I throw it to you first. No. What were they called, fans or stands? Yes. Yeah. They were called fans. Yeah. I got it.

1:09:41Joe Johnson:I got it. I got it. I got it, huh?

1:09:43Shannon Sharpe:I got it. Ocho, what do they call LeBron fans?

1:09:47Joe Johnson:Okay. I mean, obviously, stands right now. You got to understand culturally, the lingo has changed since then. So back then, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, they had fans. Now, you know, we've ushered in a new generation that has changed the way we talk. They changed the dialogue. Oh, I know what it was called back then.

1:10:05Shannon Sharpe:They weren't saying nobody, oh, you jockeying that man. Get out that man, jockeying. Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah. That go way back. So, okay. I'm glad you said it, Ocho, because you said the lingo changed. So back then it was called jocking. So who said you jocking Jordan? Who said you jocking Kobe? Who said you jocking Magic or Larry? I'm glad you did that, Ocho. See, hey, Joe, you see how I open the door? See, that's what you got to do. Sometimes you got to open the door because Ocho don't want to open the door. So I got to kind of nudge it. Yeah, yeah. I got to try to nudge it. I'm glad you said that.

1:10:39Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. That's all I'm saying. You can look. Bruh, y 'all see all them damn Jordan shoes I got? Yeah. Y 'all see all them Kobe shoes I got? I love them all. I do believe. I do believe I can appreciate LeBron. I can appreciate Kobe. I can appreciate Jordan. I believe that. Now, you got who you believe is the GOAT. That's an argument that's never going to be decided. They never got an opportunity to play each other. Jordan says it's not fair for him to say him to go because I didn't play against, you know, some of the Bill Russells. I didn't play against the Wilt Chambers. I didn't play against some of those guys.

1:11:21Shannon Sharpe:And some of the guys that's going to come along didn't play against me. And some of the guys didn't play against LeBron and so forth and so on. So I get it. I get what he's saying. It's hard to transfer errors because things are different. Technology is different. Ochoa is different now. Guys are able to train. and all these, you see that$175 million facility the Broncos just built, Ocho? Ooh, I see it. $175. They got an Olympic-sized cold plunge. They got a, the locker room, Ocho, 102 seats. You can only have 53 guys on the roster with another 15. So at most, you can have a 70. They got an extra 30 seats up in there.

1:12:07Joe Johnson:Oh, yeah.

1:12:09Shannon Sharpe:They got a full bar to just walk out. I'm like, oh, my God. I said, man, I would have never left there. Ocho, I would have been like you. Ocho, I would have been staying at a facility. I ain't got no aid. I ain't paying no$1 ,400,$1 ,500 a month for no rent. I'm staying my black ass right here.

1:12:22Joe Johnson:Listen, one thing, not to go off topic, when we talk about upgrades and what teams have done to improve their facilities, I had an opportunity, obviously, while I was off, being that I had to work, I had to work in Carolina. I had an opportunity to go to the Panthers practice. I was able to see the Panther facility. Man, Mr. Tepper, man, what he did in putting that facility for those players, you know, for the amenities that they have. Joe, I ain't never seen nothing like that, Joe. I thought the Bengals was stated art. No, you didn't. Which it is. No, no. Hey, listen to me. Hey, all jokes aside, I'm not talking about the old Bengals.

1:12:58Joe Johnson:I'm talking about the new Bengals and what they did. It's crazy. So then I go to the Panthers. They got the same stuff the Bengals got. They've added all this stuff that I think for us, I mean, it would have been great to have at the time, but in a sense, I don't think we needed all that. The red light therapy, the saunas, the therapists. You don't think we needed all that? Hey, Joe, listen, they got the mini nutrition bars and the shakes and the vanillas and the fruit. And then I go to Chicago. Joe, two days ago, I was in Chicago. I went to Chicago practice. Man, who's the owner of the Bears?

1:13:32Shannon Sharpe:Miss Hallis, the Hallis is founder of the Bears. He passed it to his daughter, Virginia McCasky. She passed away. It's her son, but it's still in the family. So the McCaskys.

1:13:44Joe Johnson:Well, I'll tell you what. Hey, the McCaskys, boy, they did one hell of a job over there too, Uncle Joe. You hear me? With the facilities, with the amenities, the practice field. It's ridiculous at this point. I understand it is the NFL, right? But based on what I used to see when I was playing in the upgrades that they have now, think about your high school, Uncle. When's the last time you've been to your high school, Joe? Well, my high school doesn't exist anymore.

1:14:06Shannon Sharpe:They merged the two. Oh, damn.

1:14:09Joe Johnson:But, Joe, think about your high school, Joe. Does it look the same way it did when you were there?

1:14:12Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it's historic, Ocho. It's HBO special on Little Rock Central. Look it up. But you can keep going, though. Keep going. So they didn't make no improvements or nothing? Yeah, they added some stuff. Like, they added this big field house. Okay, okay, okay. I get where you're going, though. I get where you're going. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

1:14:25Joe Johnson:Hey, hey. Boy, hey, I'm talking about it.

1:14:27Shannon Sharpe:It look good. Hey, it look good, Joe. Yeah, hey, I went back to my high school. I said, damn, these seats small.

1:14:34Shannon Sharpe:I went back to my college. I'm like, how did I sleep my big ass on this twin bed? I'm like, well, damn. Yeah. Yeah. But, yeah, the thing is different now. In Carolina, I only played in Carolina. I played preseason games, Ocho and Joe. I never played a regular season. Yeah. That feel, man, that grass is packed. I don't know if they still got natural grass, Ocho, but that grass was about, you talk about speed track, Ocho? You talking about a speed track? Yeah. Yeah. Man, listen. When I had Teague on here a past few days ago, you know he talking about, he referred to Atlanta Hawks practice facility, the country club.

1:15:16Shannon Sharpe:Man, listen. Oh, it's nice. Oh, my God. Over there by Emory. Oh. It's like that, Joe? Yeah, it's nice. It absolutely is nice. Hey, hey, hey, hey. I got me a little key card to go in there and get me some work in, too, here. You know what I mean? Hey, Joe, they still give you access like that, huh? Yeah, I still give you some access, Ocho. You know, see, Uncle Ocho, when I was playing, that was my thing. Like, if I couldn't sleep at night, bro, I'd go to the gym at 2 in the morning. You know what I mean? Get some shots up. Use your key card. Like, you know, just be like that sometimes. That's different to me.

1:15:50Shannon Sharpe:If I couldn't sleep at night, I'd get a mean one. Go right to sleep. Oh, man. Come on, man. Come on. Come on. That's a sleeping pill for me. That's ambient. Hey, hold on. Nah, nah, nah. Hey, all I had to do was free Willie. Willie Waller, I'm free Willie.

1:16:09Joe Johnson:That's it. That's it. Hey, listen. Hey, Unc, I'm with you when you're right now. I don't know what Joe on, y 'all. Yeah, yeah.

1:16:16Shannon Sharpe:Joe talking about he can't sleep. He's going to go get some shots up. I'm going to get a shot in. I don't know about up. I'm going to get it in, though.

1:16:24Joe Johnson:He shoots. He's gone. You know what, Unc? You know what? See, you know what's funny, too? When you think about the difference in sports, Unc and Joe. See, if we can't sleep at night, there's really nothing we can do at 2 in the morning. Hell no. We can't go to the facility. See, with basketball, it's a little easier, Joe. You can get up and go get some shots in. You know, you're inside the gym. No, I— Football-wise, it's a little different.

1:16:44Shannon Sharpe:But it ain't even just getting shots here. You might just want to go in there and sit in a hot tub, sit in a jacuzzi, get in the whirlpool. Yeah. Hey, you never know. You know what I mean? Oh, Joe, I want to be in something hot. Yeah, Joe!

1:17:01Shannon Sharpe:It ain't no jacuzzi. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't know what type of time you're on, but bless his heart, Chad. Bless his heart. Hey, Ocho, any time on the holidays and my family used to come down to Atlanta and everybody, man, we would all go to the practice facility on, like, Christmas out there. Everybody opened up gifts, and we were hooping. Man, it was just stuff like that, bro, that, you know, When you look back at them, I'm like, damn, we had some great times. Yeah. Hey, I ain't need no holiday to open up something. Hey, hey, hey. It's been a while, y 'all can tell. I've been away from y 'all for a while, so I'm just getting back in the swing of things.

1:17:50Shannon Sharpe:Each of them, you open up some presents. Man, look here.

1:17:56Shannon Sharpe:Boy, it wasn't part of time when I was held when I was well, Joe. Yeah. Crack leg like Humpty Dumpty. Mean demonstration. Hey. Huh? Mean demonstration. When I was at my 20s, Joe? I already know it. Hey, listen. I'm with you when you're right. Joe, 20? Oh. With all that testosterone I had, hey, what grandma told me, hey, woo and woo and make your head pop up. Yeah. French fry. French fry. I said she ain't got nothing to say to you, man. Joe, let me ask you this. You think Philly can win it all? Yes, I do think Philly can win it all. I think what's going to determine Philly's fate, Uncle Ocho, is, I mean, it's health, bro.

1:18:38Shannon Sharpe:We can't ignore that. I mean, hell, we got to hope MB stay healthy. We got to hope, you know, obviously, Brown stay healthy, you know, with him being up in age. French Fry, what's up, baby? French Fry. What's up? Say hi. You done got big. Hi.

1:18:57Joe Johnson:Just like Daddy, huh? Thank you, Daddy. Yeah, see all that hair? Say you got more hair than Mommy because Mommy bald head.

1:19:05Shannon Sharpe:No, don't say that. Don't say that, French fries. Say Mommy got lots of hair. Man, you know, man, you know what you call a watching man, Ocho. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about it. No, we're going to keep the peace. We worried about it. He want to stand something up right there. Yeah, yeah. He always on some bull, John. Hey, hey, hey, coming out vacation, he a little spicy. But yeah, if... Man, Joe, somebody just said Chad say Unk Unk number one Shea number two and Shadow number three they ain't lying I'm trying to hit me all the spots yeah they ain't lying but that's okay though we ain't we don't put we don't put no judgment on you and it don't make you no bad brother that don't make you no bad brother it don't you ain't no bad brother because of that yeah man it is what it is

1:20:00Honestly, honestly, honestly, no one wants to think about HIV, but there are things that everyone can do to help prevent it. Things like PrEP. PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, and it means routinely taking prescription medicine before you're exposed to HIV to help reduce your chances of getting it. PrEP can be about 99 % effective when taken as prescribed. It doesn't protect against other STIs, though, so be sure to use condoms and other healthy sex practices. Ask a healthcare provider about all your prevention options and visit findoutaboutprep.com to learn more. Sponsored by Gilead.
