In short

Best-of NBA offseason moves, focusing on major trades: Charlotte trading LaMelo Ball to Minnesota; Boston trading Jalen Brown to Philadelphia; plus discussion of other roster implications (including Julius Randle’s move to Brooklyn and Miles Bridges’ situation).

Guests (hosts/participants)

The episode is hosted by “Uncle Ocho” and “Joe” (with “Chad” joining briefly). They debate fit, contract logic, and team needs across the league.

Key claims

  1. Minnesota’s pairing of LaMelo Ball with Anthony Edwards will make the Wolves “fun” and more offensively potent, especially by countering Edwards’ frequent double-teams with a pass-first, spacing-capable guard.
  2. Charlotte’s return (Naz Reid plus draft capital) is framed as a value/contract decision, with LaMelo’s injury history and looming large third-contract money cited as a driver.
  3. Boston’s Jalen Brown trade is portrayed as salary/“business” strategy, shifting pressure onto Jayson Tatum.
  4. Philadelphia is expected to benefit from Brown’s edge and two-way potential, while also reducing offensive “ball-stopping” burden around Joel Embiid.

Notable examples

  • LaMelo’s expected assist/scoring impact (examples like “16 assists, 12 points”).
  • Minnesota needing a shooting threat behind Rudy Gobert (Naz Reid discussed as a stretch option).
  • Celtics–Sixers trade details: Brown for Paul George plus multiple picks (as stated in transcript).
  • Julius Randle’s trade to Brooklyn described as a low-return salary dump.

4:29Shannon Sharpe:Well, we had a big trade last night. The Charlotte Hornets traded LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Timberwolves for Naz Reed and a series of draft picks. The Hornets will receive a 2033 unprotected first round pick. Three second round picks, 2029, 2032, 2033. Charlotte also get first-round pick swaps in 28, 29, and 30. The Timberwolves now have number one and number three picks from the 2020 draft. Joe, did Minnesota just become a dangerous backcourt in the Western Conference after pairing Mellow and Ant-Man together in Minnesota?

5:07Chad Johnson:Man, I don't know how dangerous they're going to be, Uncle Ocho, but they damn sure are going to be fun and watch. They're going to be exciting, huh? Oh, man, they're going to be fun and watch. I would dig a way to say that, Joe. They might not be the most dangerous, but they going to be entertaining as hell. Oh, man. Hey, because, you know, you got to understand, both of those guys probably rank top five, top ten in signature shoes that's out right now. LaMelo with Puma, Ant-Man with Adidas, and just the aura that they both carry. I think they're going to make each other better, bro. I think it's definitely going to help.

5:41Chad Johnson:If y 'all notice, we always talk about a copycat lead, whether it's the NFL, whether it's the NBA. You see what Minnesota got going on. They trying to surround Rudy with all these tweeners who can do a little bit of everything, kind of like how San Antonio, obviously Rudy ain't no damn wimby, but, you know, they playing. I kind of see it. Same way with New York. New York got cat at the five, but then you got OG, Hart, Bridges. You know, you got all these tweener guys around them. So I can kind of see that's where Minnesota's going because they got rid of their beef. I think they, they, they, yeah, Joe, I think the thing is,

6:16Shannon Sharpe:is that they need more scoring. They need consistent scoring. They need somebody that Ant-Man that can absorb some of these double teams from Ant-Man. Ant-Man was facing constant double teams. And so, and to try to lighten the load on him, he has a guy that can stretch the floor. They haven't had this type of guy in a very, very long time. He can shoot the three. He is good at one leg shooting three as we have in the NBA. He can put the ball on the floor. He got a nice flow game. He can finish. Now, look, he ain't much on the defensive end, but he's going to put so much pressure. He and Ant-Man are going to put so much pressure on you on the offensive end.

6:50Shannon Sharpe:And he says, this is what we need. This is a scoring league. You're not finna hold somebody to 80, 90 points consistently. You might have a game, maybe two games, where you keep a team under 100, but you better be able to score on the other end. Because if you count on your defense, 90 in the night out, Joe, like this was the 90s, the 80s, the whole team's under 90 points. That issue ain't happening in today's game anymore.

7:15Chad Johnson:Nah, nah, nah. I see LaMelo Arcan Ocho. He going to make the game a lot easier for Ant-Man. You know what I mean? Because LaMelo is a pass-first point guard who can score. You know what I'm saying? So it's going to be nice where he probably going to have 16 assists, 12 points. And it's going to be other nights he may have 27 points and 8-9 assists. You know what I'm saying? Like, he's one of those guys who's going to be able to fill out the game, but he knows he's going to always have to get Ant-Man going. So I think his high IQ for the game is so underrated. I'm glad he's been put in this position to where he can kind of showcase what he can do on a playoff caliber team, you know, who's trying to, you know, ultimately win a championship.

7:59Chad Johnson:Now, I know they want to do anything they can, bro, to please Ant-Man and try to keep him around. I think this is a step in the right direction. Now, although I don't think they done because you got to have some size. Okay, Ocho. You got to have something. You ain't got nothing but Rudy. They ain't going to get it.

8:15Shannon Sharpe:No. I think, but Joe, concern with that thing is because you know Mello take a lot of bad shots. Yeah. Now, the thing is he's not a prototype. He's not the old school point guard. Mello, I mean, what do you average? Now, I am not surprised by this trade. when they went and got Kobe right they really love Con Caniple they like okay we're more conventional now they want to build around Caniple they want to build around Brandon Miller now so we got Kobe we got Caniple we got Brandon Miller I like what we got right now and so I am people like oh I am not shocked by this and plus mellow injury history yeah So I am, because guess what, Joe, Ocho, in two years, he's looking smack dab at$300 million.

9:07Shannon Sharpe:Oh, yeah.

9:08Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

9:09Shannon Sharpe:Teams are thinking about that now, Joe. I think they're thinking more about that, having to give a guy that third contract. Right. Okay, the rookie contract is easy. That's a no-brainer. He's slotted here. This is what he's going to make. Now we got a rookie, a guy, now we got him on the second contract. Is he an all-NBA selection? Is he an all-defensive selection? Is he an MVP? Is he a defensive player of the year? because now that makes you get a super max contract. Now we get to that third contract, Joe. That's 290, that's 300.

9:39Chad Johnson:And at this third contract here, we still ain't no damn playoff team. You know what I'm saying? So you're right, Unc. These teams are trying to get away from that. But to kind of piggyback on what you were saying about the Kobe White thing, I think he played so well in those play-in games, Unc and Ocho, and not even just then. But since he came from Chicago, I think he's been so consistent. He was just great in those play-in games that I think they really looked at it and was like, you know what? Hell, if we do have to get off LaMelo, that's cool. I feel like Jacobi can run this point. You know, we like Con Caneple.

10:15Chad Johnson:We like Brandon Miller. You know, we like the high-energy guys that we got. Man, maybe we just move forward because if you're fighting to get in the damn play-in and understand, you know, hell, the heat done got better, the Eastern got a little thicker too. You know what I mean? so why not move on why not move on him now when he's probably at his highest value because he's just coming off probably his best season statistically in the NBA

10:39Shannon Sharpe:and Mello can score we know Mello can score I mean you don't realize how tall he is he's legit 6 '7

10:47Chad Johnson:yeah oh yeah

10:48Shannon Sharpe:can get his shot off is very unorthodox but he can get that shot off he can put the ball in the floor he got way above average handles he can finish he got a float he can finish but I am not surprised by this based on the simple fact his injury history he's going to come up on a third year contract and as you said Joe now we're in the play-in now we're fighting for 9-8, 9-10 nah hell nah 300 million for that nah let somebody else deal with that

11:16Chad Johnson:right hey go ahead Ojo I'm going to say I mean he's one of the few players that Charlotte's had that can put butts in the seat as far as how that's seen and going to Uncle Joe, they coming to see Lamella because he's unpredictable. He's exciting. He's entertaining. He's polarizing. You don't know what's going to happen. So to let a figure of that magnitude go, and then you pair him with someone who just as polarizing as he is on the court, off the court, not only does the Minnesota got to worry about it, they got to make sure he drive the right way. That's it.

11:52Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you, Ocho. Yeah. They traded Luka Doncic. now with them trading Luka Doncic he's a six time first team all NBA selection do you think who is untradable in the NBA nobody everybody can get it Wimby because once they traded Luka the NBA was on notice everybody in the NBA was on they traded a guy 25 years old that was a five time first team all NBA selection rookie of the year and he's a potential He's top five MVP selection every single year, and they moved him. Yeah. I'm not surprised by this. Everybody got the green light. And so guess what? They moved him wide. Man, he on the second contract.

12:39Shannon Sharpe:That third contract going to be$350, going to be$400 million. He has some help. We know he's outstanding. Led the league in scoring again for the second time. Over 33, what, 32, 33, 34 points a game. Yes, sir. He's done that. But, man, injuries are starting to creep up. There's some habits that he has. Yeah. The working out habit. There's some habits that he got that, uh, you know, Ocho? I mean, look, he's a phenomenal talent. We're not taking that away from him. But to give 350, and it's kind of hard to get him to, like, like the old Mew. My grandma used to say, boy, can't get you like a Mew.

13:16Shannon Sharpe:Can't get you to G-R. I mean, go horse power. If we can't get him to G-R, he'll on a rookie contract or first and second contract, what the hell are we going to do when you get to$300,$350? Nothing. Yeah. I'm not saying they should or they shouldn't have. I'm just trying to have a business, as these owners, how they're thinking.

13:41Chad Johnson:Yeah. And listen, but we all know Minnesota was looking for a point guard. They needed a point guard. They needed somebody who could control things. We've seen the double teams that Ant-Man was getting who could take some pressure off of him. And this is one guy who I definitely think going to help. But I think for Minnesota, what they're really looking for, Uncle Ocho, is for Jaden McDaniels to take that next step. He has to take that next step, Uncle. I know we talk about it all the time, but I tell you, he's going to need anywhere from a nice, efficient 16 to 22, 24 points a night consistently, bro, for them to be effective and still be that defensive paralysis.

14:22Chad Johnson:like a Scottie Pippen type. You know what I mean? They gonna need him to really turn the corner in this upcoming season.

14:30Shannon Sharpe:Well, and they're hoping that with Julius up out of there, because when they pass the ball to Julius, they're like, man, who got the ball? You ain't getting it back. What? If you get it back, it's gonna be with four seconds on the clock. Bro, you had the ball in 12 seconds, and all you did was beep, beep, beep, beep, and then shoot a wild shot didn't look at the referee.

14:55Chad Johnson:They said Julius Randall to Brooklyn, man.

14:59Shannon Sharpe:Hey, they sent that man to Brooklyn and not for a first round. They traded him and a 28 pick in the first round for a second round pick. They traded that man for a 1974 Pinto.

15:17Chad Johnson:Right, right. I couldn't believe it.

15:22Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man, come on. Joe, you know when you want to get rid of something, you don't care where they go. Or you don't have to care what. That's like somebody giving up$400,$500 million to their ex on a divorce settlement. Do you really know how tired you must be if somebody said, yeah, I got$500 million for you, bye? Yeah. Yeah, I got a billion for you, bye? Yeah, I got a single board for you, bye? That's what they said. Yeah. We really don't want anything in return. Because think about it. For every Draymond Green and Nikola Jokic and Jalen Brunson, second-round picks that turn out to be – well, we know Jokic is going to be a Hall of Famer.

16:05Shannon Sharpe:Draymond Green is trending in that direction, two MVPs, a defensive player of the year, four championships, and Jalen Brunson is what he's done. He's definitely trending in that direction. How many second-round picks are we actually going to do something? I mean, you got way back when, when it was like four or five rounds. You had Willis Reed, if I'm not mistaken, as a second-round pick. But for the most part, in the mock common draft, that ain't happening. So for them to give up a first-round pick, even later first-round picks, basically you're trying to get guys that are a lot of – look at the guys that weren't MVPs.

16:34Shannon Sharpe:Most of those guys are early-round picks, at least top 10. Yeah. So I'm not surprised in considering how poorly Julius played against San Antonio. And, you know, you –

16:50Chad Johnson:Hey, hey. Go ahead. Hey, you got to give San Antonio credit now. They're a hell of a defensive team, Aki Ocho. Yeah. You know what I mean? I think, you know, now I know Julius didn't play, he didn't play his best ball against him, but it must have been something more than that. I'm sure it is. You know what I mean? Because they got out the first round, you know, they was able to beat the Nuggets. I thought he played well in that series. It's just, man, you played against a hell of a team, a hell of a San Antonio team, bro.

17:16Shannon Sharpe:And the power forward, you should be able to do, you should be able to have your way against Bissell and Castle. I'm sorry, Joe. As a 6 '9 power forward, those are twos and threes that are guarding you in the post. Hey,

Read the full transcript

17:32Chad Johnson:them boys playing big, though. These ain't no regular twos. Listen, I understand what you're saying, but these ain't no regular.

17:39Shannon Sharpe:You're going to let a 6 '2", 3 guard, a 2 guard, or a point guard guard you in the post? I'm not. I'm not. That's six, nine and a half. I'm not. And you got Bissell and you got Castle. And I know Castle is unbelievable. But that's the problem. Joe, that's the problem. They paying this man$35 million. That's supposed to be your advantage. Him.

18:02Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. And especially when you hobble, because Ant-Man is hobble. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I understand that. I understand that. And then we cut.

18:11Shannon Sharpe:But I think that's why they go. Because remember, Gordon was kind of hobbled in the first round against him. So now that would have been the matchup. So he had an advantage, and he kind of took advantage of that. Now, when Ant-Man is still kind of hobbled, we paying you. You're supposed to be the difference maker. Remember, they traded Cat for you. Yeah.

18:35Chad Johnson:The boy just got him one. That's crazy.

18:37Shannon Sharpe:Now they're looking like, oh, Lord, we traded Cat.

18:41Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, yeah.

18:42Shannon Sharpe:You got to move on. You got to. And like you said, and my thing is you hear about Kobe say, you know, when you get in, you go get bro. You're not Kobe. You're not Kobe. These guys got to stop thinking, oh, Kobe said this. And I appreciate Kobe impartaking, rest your soul, Kobe, impartaking wisdom on these guys. But the problem is these guys actually think they're Kobe.

19:05Chad Johnson:Yeah, they got the mamba mentality. No, they think they have the mentality.

19:12Shannon Sharpe:They got Kingsnake. They got brown snake, no venom. See, what made the black mamba so deadly is that the black mamba isn't the most toxic snake in the world. Right. That's a crate. That's a West. That's an inland taipan. That's a common brown. There are probably two or three. The viper, maybe the gaboon viper or the Russell's viper has more toxic venom in Africa than the mamba. but the mamba is one of the few snakes that will bite without provocation he's looking for a problem kobe didn't need any reason to do something bad to you right so so that's what i'm saying people like the black no the black mommy is not even close to being one of the most toxic snake in the world and now they're starting crossing snakes to get even more toxicity you bleeding out of Anything that has a hole, you bleeding out of it.

20:12Chad Johnson:Hey, if you got a pet snake, I do not want to come over your house. You know what I mean?

20:17Shannon Sharpe:You definitely don't want to come over if it's venomous.

20:19Chad Johnson:Snakes and spiders. Hey, Joe, you scared of snakes and spiders, boy? Snakes and spiders. I don't play with those snakes and spiders. I know what they have on me when I see you. Yeah, okay. I know what they have on me when I see you, Joe. All right. I love me some spiders. You know, in high school, they used to call me arachnophobia. Nah. Yeah. Because you used to get down on all fours and get busy. Come on. Hey, hey, hey. See how you done went left field? Hey, Joe. You see that? You see what I'm talking about?

20:54Shannon Sharpe:Ocho was talking about arachnophobia, which is fear of spider. And so now we talk about, oh, you get out of the office. Come on, Joe. Where you going with this?

21:03Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, hey. Y 'all got to chill, bro. That is you, Joe. Y 'all can't be trying to. Stop trying to point. You're like one of them little kids in class. See? See? It's him. Come on, man. Stop talking. How do you go from talking about spiders and snakes,

21:16Shannon Sharpe:and you talking about getting on forward and trying to get busy? Because that man said he arachnophobia. So I'm saying. That is the fear of spiders. And arachnid. Huh? Yes, that is the fear of spiders.

21:27Chad Johnson:What did he say he was?

21:29Shannon Sharpe:They used to call me arachnophobia. Arachnophobia. You know exactly what he's saying. Yeah, he's saying what I'm saying. Y 'all see? Ocho and I've been trying to tell y 'all. I said, I ain't never been number one.

21:41Chad Johnson:Nah.

21:41Shannon Sharpe:You know, I ain't. I'm just here. Joe. That's between Joe and Ocho. And Joe done took over.

21:49Chad Johnson:Chad, Chad, anytime somebody is in denial like the way the E-boys be, that's how you know they're number one because they can't wait to try and deflect and put something on me. No, we're not deflecting. You said it. We're showing you that your innocence is not who you truly are. Okay, y 'all check them out, Chad. Go ahead. Keep going. What'd you say?

22:11Shannon Sharpe:Joe. I pulled Joe. I'm a police officer. Go ahead. I pulled you over for speeding. You got me side the road talking about, what about all those other cops? Look how fast. I said, well, you know what? Joe, if I had to pull you over, I could have got one of them. But I got you side the road. Uh-huh. That's you, boy. You know what? Maybe had Ocho said what he said, what you said, we could have pointed at Ocho. But you said that. We talking about spiders. as Ocho says, they used to call your boy arachnophobia, which is the fear of spiders, it's arachnid. You talk about, yeah, cause you was all four getting busy.

22:45Shannon Sharpe:I was like, where did this come from?

22:47Chad Johnson:I must have, well, I must have, I probably - You in this hurt, you heard exactly right. I know, I know. He done did, hey, um, he done did at the past four shows in a row. Yes! You know that he went all the way and left field. And who's counting? Listen, listen. Who are you counting?

23:02Shannon Sharpe:Cause you quit to point it on me. Man, I told you, man, um.

23:07Chad Johnson:Hey, Ocho, man, me, Chad, we already know y 'all big freaks. Ain't nobody, listen, the thing is, it don't make y 'all no bad brothers, man. We still like y 'all the same. Ain't nobody judging y 'all. We just know what it is. No, the Bible teaches us judge you not,

23:23Shannon Sharpe:least you be judged. So we judge free.

23:27Chad Johnson:That's what I'm saying?

23:28Shannon Sharpe:We judge you? But it's the fact that you quit, man. Man, man, man, man, man. You know you say you was held when you were well. Hey, so we know now, hey, Isojote didn't play back in the day. That's what I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.

23:47Chad Johnson:Listen, man, listen. I like that. Listen, listen. I know this man, if he claiming he was any type of insect or anything, that mean he was doing something freaky. That's just who he is. That's just who he is.

24:00Shannon Sharpe:That's just who he is, bro. This man say from a freaky. This man said, because the man said he was an insect, he had to be doing something freaky. Yeah, Joe. You know what? Hey, Joe, get your mind out the gutter, man.

24:12Chad Johnson:Y 'all see this? Y 'all see this? All right, all right. Chad, my bad. My bad, Chad. My bad. You're damn right it's so bad. It ain't your good. I'm going to chill. I'm going to chill. It's too late now? It's too late. Hey, yeah. Say, damn it, y 'all already done. Yeah. It's been done. The business done that. Damn it. Damn it. Damn it. Hey, you know what? Damn it. Call me what you want. Y 'all want me to be number one? Damn it, I'll be number one. Damn, I'm gonna crash out of here. I'm number one. I'm number one. I'll be number one.

24:40Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe. Now I think, hey, guys, hey, Chad, I think I know what happened. I think I know to get the heat up off him, Joe might have set me up with the video. Joe might have set me up with the tape. Okay. What? He might have sent somebody to infiltrate us, Ocho. I think so. I like how I'm picking up. Man, listen. that we're putting down, huh?

25:05Chad Johnson:Hold on. You think my character gives off that type of vibe? Oh, for sure. Absolutely. You're talking to Arkansas shady.

25:12Shannon Sharpe:Man, they shady. Nah, nah, nah.

25:15Chad Johnson:We may, hey, hey, we might be a little shy in the way we move sometimes, but shady, I wouldn't say shady. Okay, shy. You know what I'm saying? Same thing. You know, like... Shady, you all start with an S. Yes. Yeah, like, if we owe you something, if we owe you some money or something, we may not pay you, you know, that type of thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because you owe me still. I had to forget about all that. My bad.

25:36Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, but that's okay. Joe, like you said, you being number one, I still look at you the same. I think you're as clutch of the NBA player that they've ever created. Yes. A big shot taker, a big shot maker. Yes, sir. That's you. So anything outside of that, you taking and making big shots, I still hold you in high regard.

25:56Chad Johnson:Same. Same over here, Joe. Huh? Hey, I don't look at you no different. You hear me? Listen, y 'all will be number one I'll be number one just for the night I'll be number one

26:07Shannon Sharpe:That's you cook

26:09Chad Johnson:Yeah, I'll take that with the night Hey, you know what, it's so bad He's so delusional, he the type that need therapy He need counseling He don't even realize it He the type need to be in them AA classes Yeah You're not an alcoholic, but you're out there drinking 6 in the morning You're drinking 12 in the afternoon Then you're drinking again at night That's what Joe is. He the kind that go to the

26:34Shannon Sharpe:Freak Anonymous. I saw Joe Johnson and I'm a freak and people clap for him. He's like, well, hell, y 'all clapping for this. I'm going to stay a freak. Y 'all was supposed to boo. But hell, once y 'all started clapping, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing.

26:50Chad Johnson:Listen, listen. Hey, I can't believe you and Ocho here tonight acting like that, man. Damn. My light went off, man.

27:00Shannon Sharpe:It's all good. Like I said, that don't make you no bad, brother. And I think, I hate, look, I think the thing is with Nas Reed going to Charlotte, because there's two parts of this, a big guy that can stretch the floor.

27:13Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah.

27:14Shannon Sharpe:He's another stretch guy. Look, they got guys that's going to be able to shoot the cover off the ball. Brandon Miller can shoot the three, but he can elevate. He can finish above the rim. Knipple, we know the most threes by a rookie in NBA history. He can shoot it. He's only going to get better.

27:28Chad Johnson:Yeah.

27:29Shannon Sharpe:I like Kobe White. He can shoot the three. He got great handles. He can penetrate. Hey, look, the East, and then like I said, they beat Miami, ended up losing, I think they ended up losing to Orlando. Orlando. They might, I'm not, obviously, they're not no serious contenders. I don't, this move does not put them above the Knicks, and I don't think it puts them above Detroit and some of the other teams. I think with Miami doing what they did, I don't think that puts them above Miami. But I think they can cause some problems because, like you said, Joe, the other night, after the All-Star break, they had one of the best records in the NBA.

28:07Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah.

28:09Shannon Sharpe:So that's definitely something they could do. They were playing great ball.

28:11Chad Johnson:Yeah, they were playing great ball. So I think they added some great pieces. I guess what they're going to do with Miles Bridges, I think, I'll get Ochoa, because if you bring over big boy Nas Reed, I think it's time for Bridges. I think it's time for him to get paid.

28:28Shannon Sharpe:Well, it is. He's on an expiring contract, a little under$23 million a year. That makes him very, very enticing to someone because they only have one year on that contract. I don't think that could be they keep him and he plays out of his mind because he can score. He's another dude, man. He get hot? Yeah.

28:47Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah. He get it going, boy. And you know what? I think what's underrated in this is because LaMelo had great chemistry with those guys, bro. You talk about Knipple, the rookie year that he had. LaMelo had a lot to do with that. You know what I'm saying? With him getting assists off Conn Knipple. Him getting assists off Brandon Miller. I just thought that was a great match. But obviously, you weren't going to be at the top of the damn E. So it's going to be hard to pay a guy 300-something M. So go on, get up off of him. He got some great value and some great years left in him. Because at least for the next two, three years here in Minnesota, they'll really get a chance to kind of see what they made of.

29:25Shannon Sharpe:But if you think about it, Joe, when you go back to Minnesota, cat, seven foot, let him go. You trade, let him go, and you trade him for a 6 '9 and a half Julius Randle. I don't know how tall Nas reads. What, 6 '10, 6 '11, you let him go. You're kind of small now, Joe. You're kind of really small. Yeah, you are. Ant-Man, 6 '4, 6 '4 and a half. You got Melo, 6 '7. You got DeSomu. You got Jayden Daniels. You got Rudy Gobert. Now, they're going to need a big to back Rudy Gobert up because you're not getting offense for Rudy. Rudy is there to anchor your defense. So now you're going to need points on the offensive end, and you're going to need another – you probably need another defender.

30:08Shannon Sharpe:And Joey's random wasn't no great defender. But I think you're going to need some defensive guys. You've got all those guys with offensive weaponry. Now, that man's going to hold his own. But Melo is really not a defender, and I hadn't seen enough of the summer to see if he's a really defender. We know Jayden McDaniels and we know Rudy. Those are your defenders.

30:30Chad Johnson:Hey, but we do know that young buck Terrence Shannon, who made his playoff debut, he going to be in a rotation this year. You know what I mean? Yeah, but I think with Minnesota, because Rudy is a defensive big and the way he played against Denver, against Jokic, You know what I'm saying? The defense that he put on Jokic in that first round, bro, it helped him get out of that round. So, you know, you got to try to hope if you do run into that problem again, he can kind of duplicate that type of performance. But, man, when you play San Antonio, you play OKC. You're going to have your hands full, Joe.

31:07Chad Johnson:You're going to have your hands full. But, listen, when you got all those guys surrounded, you know, like they got Rudy, I just feel like your backup going to have to be some type of a shooting threat on that Ocho. You got to have a big who can shoot the ball, bro. You know what I mean? To be able to mix up coverages and give different looks. But those guys, Ant-Man, LaMelo, McDaniels, Ayo, like two of those guys, they're going to have to be special. They're going to have to be pretty damn good on a night-to-night basis. You know what I mean?

31:36Shannon Sharpe:And I think the thing is, if you look at teams that have bigs, the bigs are opposite of what the starter is. If you look at cat starts, but Mitchell Robinson is totally different. You look at Wimby, and Cornette is totally opposite. You look at Rudy Gobert, Nas Reed was totally opposite. So you're going to have to get somebody. I agree with you, Joe. You're going to have to get somebody that's an offensive threat. You can't have two defensive threats at the big position.

32:05Chad Johnson:Because, listen, you already know what's going to happen when you meet the cream of the crop, meaning the Spurs. Wimby going to be playing there in free safety, and their defense going to look elite. They defense going to look elite because if your five man ain't no threat, that's why the Knicks were able to win, bro, because Cat was such a threat. You know, if you're big, if you're five can't shoot, your ass in trouble, boy.

32:27Shannon Sharpe:The Wolves also discussed Jalen Brown with the Celtics before trading Lamello per John Krasnick. I forgot, bro, you got this name. I don't know what this is, C-Z-Y-N. Krasinski. let's go with Krasinski John Krasinski Minnesota thought Mellow as fitting more what they needed and far less compensation going out

32:57Chad Johnson:man listen if I'm JB Jalen Brown I really don't give a damn what happened you gotta be hurt huh Joe every time something come up it's always his name that's in the conversation

37:43Shannon Sharpe:I don't think this surprised anybody. We talked about this the other night, but the shocking news of the day. The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Jalen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks, two second-round picks. The Celtics originally was asking the Sixers to include Vijay Eskimo in the trade. Boston asking price on Brown continued to fall over the past few weeks until they accepted a deal. centered around Paul George and picks Jalen Brown. Now, check this out. The NBA has now traded Paul George for Shea Gilgis, Jalen Brown, DeMonte Sabonis, Victor Oladipo, Denali Gallinari.

38:25Shannon Sharpe:Seven first-round picks, four pick swaps. Paul George has now become the most valuable player in NBA history. Joe, we had talked about this. we saw the writing on the wall that the Celtics was getting rid of Jalen Brown. And we can go in a little further depth, but when you heard this news, what was our first thing that went through your mind?

38:47Chad Johnson:Man, you know what? As we've been talking about this lately, I'm like, with all these scenarios that's been coming out about Jalen Brown getting traded, I didn't really understand why. And for him to get traded, it doesn't surprise me, Ocho. But to send him to Philly for Paul George, obviously Boston's trying to save some money to some degree. You know what I mean? Knowing and understanding that, Ocho, yeah, we're going to have to deal with the riff of trading him today. And we understand that. But, hell, come next season, he's going to be looking to re-up and get him another contract. And if we're dealing with this now, we can't continue to do business like that.

39:27Chad Johnson:So while he's hot, while he's still probably at his highest value, Let's see what we can get for them. And I think they got, you know, I think it was a pretty even swap, for real, if you just want me to keep them 100. How it's even, Joe? With Paul George in that injury history. You get, what, you get two first-round picks? Yeah. Listen, listen, listen. And what Boston is looking for, okay, I don't want to have to, I don't want people to have to riffraff between who's 1A and 1B and all that. They ain't really rapping for them. Listen, yeah, this clearly puts the pressure on Jason Tatum. Hell, without Jason Tatum, if Jalen Brown can lead us to a three seed, you know, if we put some competent pieces around JT.

40:11Chad Johnson:Hey, a two seed, if we put some competent pieces around JT, him knowing that he can lead us, I just think, man, they really didn't want to deal with Jalen Brown stuff, bro. Considering all the things that he said, they took an opportunity to be able to get up off for him. What you hope is that Paul Joyce can be a consistent, valuable vet.

41:25Chad Johnson:When was the last time that happened, Joe? Hold on, hold on, Unc, hold on, Unc We ain't asking him to score no 22 and 25 points a night A very efficient 16 to 18 points a night is pretty good Man, they got a lot of pieces Look, did y 'all forget that they went and got Mitchell Robinson from the Knicks?

41:43Shannon Sharpe:I knew that was going to happen

41:45Chad Johnson:So listen, once you start winning, what do teams do? Okay, also, they start picking off your damn players

41:51Shannon Sharpe:But I need you to answer me this. When was the last time Paul George was healthy enough to give you what you're asking from him? I didn't think he played bad in the postseason.

42:03Chad Johnson:Joe, the man missed damn near 40 games. But when he played, he... What do you mean he didn't play bad? I'm saying when his... Listen, what I'm saying is, we looking at what Paul George is making from a salary standpoint. He can't give you that production. When he making 50, Paul? What he going to give you?

42:20Shannon Sharpe:So, hold on. You traded Jalen Brown because you said you wanted to get off contract. Jalen Brown gave you, without Jason Tatum, 29 points. With Jason Tatum, he's giving you somewhere around 22. So, I need somebody because, guess what, Joe? If you leave your girl, you expected somebody to replace her. She got to look just as good, just as fine, cook just as well, and put it down in the sheets.

42:45Chad Johnson:Yeah. If she can't do all that, what am I trading for? Oh, you wasn't going to get nothing that was comfortable. You lost out of him. Look, look, look, look. I'll keep with it. Look, look. You threw him out there. You lost out on Giannis. So this was your backup playing hell. What else was you going to do?

43:00Shannon Sharpe:You couldn't bring him back? No, no. Well, what you know what problem was is that you should have kept your mouth shut and let somebody come to you. Because you opened your mouth, everybody knew you wanted to get off on him, and they knew you were going to catch hell bringing him back after all this because no matter what the chat says and people say about the media, Jalen Brown is a very smart individual. That man with the Cal Tech, excuse me, Cal Berkeley, he knows all this information coming out, it ain't from no media. Now, he get upset at the media that they're reporting it, but he knows it came from the Celtics.

43:33Shannon Sharpe:He knows that. And I think that's one of the reasons. So they know that, he know that, we can't bring him back because, like you said, Brad Stevens said, we love Jalen Brown. But that don't mean his ass safe.

43:44Chad Johnson:But listen, this you got to understand. Jalen Brown was two steps ahead of everybody else. How long has house been up for sale, huh? How long has it been up for sale? Oh, yeah, yeah. The writing was on the wall. That happened a long time ago. Obviously, the writing was already on the wall, and the player always knows before everybody else. Now, another thing where you know he was leaving, and Jalen Brown continues to talk. He continues to fire back and go back and forth with certain people, especially, you know, the higher-ups and positions of power who have a voice. He loved going back and forth with them.

44:16Chad Johnson:That's another tall tale and sign that, you know what, I ain't going to be here anyway, so you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to do what most NBA players don't do. I'm going to go back and forth with him. And again, Jason Tatum, yes, they like him. Why do they like him? Because he's safe. He's safe. He's not going to say much. Jalen Brown, he's not safe. He's fun. He's entertaining. He's a little edgy. But when it's time to play basketball, you know what you get, Joe? You get that boy. You get that boy.

44:47Shannon Sharpe:And Philly got that boy.

44:49Chad Johnson:Philly got one now. Philly got one.

44:51Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Ocho, you said the writing was on the wall. Guess who's writing? The Celtics? The Celtics up there doing your feed.

45:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. Then I drew a big old picture of Jalen Brown exiting, walking out the building. Yeah, yeah.

45:12Chad Johnson:Yeah.

45:13Shannon Sharpe:While everybody kept saying, man, I remember when I was on Undisputed, they would get mad when we was having a conversation. You guys are trying to break. Y 'all trying to pit them against each other. No, the Boston Celtics are pitting them against each other. We're just talking about it. We're doing our job. Don't get mad at the messenger. They had to pick a side.

45:35Chad Johnson:But this is the thing. Un-Joke. They picked a side a long time ago. Go ahead. Go ahead, Un-Joke. when you support a team, you always defend said team and the players that are on that team. And you're kind of blind to the fact of what the teams are trying to do internally. Me and you, we can see what they're doing. We know the noise coming from inside the house. We understand, oh, I see what they're trying to do. You peep game. But as a fan, you blind. And if you're blind, you really can't see it. You can't see what they're trying to do. You just defend your players.

46:06Shannon Sharpe:They're not blind. The blindest person is the man that can't see. it's the blind that's choosing not to see. The Celtics fan chose not to see because it was easy to blame. You know what the easiest thing to do? Is to blame someone else for your troubles. That is the easiest thing to do. So instead of saying, well, damn, why does this keep coming out? What is this stuff about JB and JT? Yada, yada, yada. What is this? It's easy to blame people that get on TV and talk for a living about it. Y 'all making up stories. I remember we were talking about it last year, Ocho. They talking about it must be a slow news day.

46:44Shannon Sharpe:No, no, no, no, no. It sped up in a hurry, didn't it? It was slow. Now, I ain't one of them guys that sit back, but I told you, Joe, and I remember and I had this conversation. I said, two$300 million contracts? Two? Jalen Brown is in line to get two years,$143 million? Extension as we sit here?

47:07Chad Johnson:Yeah.

47:08Shannon Sharpe:Jason Tatum is just what in the second year over 300 million a 317 JB signed a 306 yeah he's due he can sign a two-year extension for 143 nah nah nah nah and then reading a little bit about it uh somebody was covered today the guy that's the front of the face of the Celtics really he's the face of it but he didn't put up the most money he got a venture capitalist group and they got more control. Right. I told you this, Ocho. Yeah, I understand you talk about winning, winning, but they ain't really trying to go in that second apron. The objective is in the business. I'm going to spend as little as I possibly can to make as much as I possibly can.

47:46Shannon Sharpe:So having two, three hundred million dollar guys on my payroll, that ain't really conducive for business.

47:51Chad Johnson:No, sir. It's hard to build a team out like that.

47:55Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

47:56Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, hey, this. Guess what? What?

47:59Shannon Sharpe:Jason Tatum. How old Jason Tatum? 27, 28?

48:02Chad Johnson:Yeah.

48:02Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, guess what? next year. What he going to be looking for? Are you going to re-up again? Two-year extension 150. Are you going to re-up again? Yeah, I'm sure. A year, either next year, 27 or 28, Jason Taylor going to be right back in the table. That's going to be dope.

48:17Chad Johnson:Just in time to go to the Olympics. That's going to be dope. That's going to be dope for him. Hopefully, God's grace, he stays healthy and comes back next season, obviously, being able to take the reins and lead that team the way we know and we've seen him do before his injury. I'm happy with JT, man. I'm happy with JT. Tatum is 28 years of age. I'm happy with Jalen Brown, too. This is making it even worse. You think about all the noise, right? All the noise of the people counting the Celtics out because JT was hurt. What Jalen Brown came out and did, led their head to a goddamn second seed. What do you think he's going to do in Philly with another chip on the shoulder?

48:58Shannon Sharpe:The difference is he got a ball stopper. he got another guy trying to cut his teeth and show that he's incredible Maxie went to the all with an all-star you got the one guy that you throw it in there he clogging up the thing you know you got kids in the backseat and you can't turn around you just hand the cookie back there and then grab it and it don't come back that's Embiid when they throw the ball in the post

49:21Chad Johnson:hey but hold on think of this doesn't that take some of the pressure off Embiid doesn't that take some of the pressure off Maxie where you don't have to do much because now you can defer to someone else who can get to it just like you can? Well, listen, it should. It should, Ocho. But, you know, JB just coming off averaging 29 a game, bro. Maxi average. Yeah, Maxi average. 26, 27 a game. Yeah, so we know Embiid led the league in scoring. Take off, Joe. So you got Embiid, like Uncle said, he a ball stopper. I think he going to have to change his game more than anybody, Embiid. Because you got Maxi, Edgecombe, and Brown.

49:58Chad Johnson:around MB, I think it can be great, but he can't be no ball stopper to where he's messing up the rhythm, bro. You know what I mean? Like, you got some young thoroughbreds, some boys who can get out. JB gonna be able to get heels on both ends of the floor. I think that's the most valuable piece, honestly, because if he comes in, he could be a lockdown defender, and he's giving you roughly 22 to 25 a night, I'm talking about efficiency, he's gonna, look, he's gonna be looking to prove a lot of people wrong, and he's gonna be looking to show how valuable he is, meaning he's going to be a winning piece to the right situation.

50:33Chad Johnson:And I think, hey, I'm not mad at it, bro. I like him in Philly. If they can figure it out, if B can stay healthy, hell, maybe 60 games. Can B give us 60 games? And you know what's funny? Even if he don't give you 60, you still got Maxine, you still got JV, even if you don't. And whoever they have in place, I'm sure they can not be in the middle, not be in the way and clogging up the goddamn paint so Max and JB can do what they need to do.

51:01Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you a question, Ocho. What was your best receiving? What's the most yards you ever had in the season? 1 ,400? 1 ,400? 14-something. So let's just say for the sake of argument, at 25, 26 years of age, you just had 1 ,500 receiving yards, 095 catches, 13 touchdowns. And they bring a guy in your same age that just put up those same numbers somewhere else and say, Ocho, we want to take a little pressure off you. How you feeling? I mean... Okay, that's all I want to say. Because once you get to that Pro Bowl and you see all them other guys in that Pro Bowl and how they talk, Ocho, good job, man.

51:37Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's a bad boy right here, man. Ocho put that work in. But you know how Ocho, we just bring another guy in to take some pressure off you. Hey, but hold on.

51:46Chad Johnson:Think about this, right? We've seen it many a times before, right? Think about Torrey Holt and Isaac Bruce. Think about Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison. Now, we've seen duos that operate and have 1 ,300 apiece on both sides of the ball. So I'm looking at it from that view standpoint where you got two people as a coach offensively. But, hell, I got two dudes that can get it off the goddamn muscle. I ain't even got to do nothing. So in hindsight, I'm seeing it as a good thing as opposed to, goddamn, I got one A and one B. I'm looking at it a little different.

52:21Shannon Sharpe:I think in basketball, when you got a guy like Embiid, if it's free-flowing, yeah, you can get that. Embiid is not a free-flowing player. He needs the ball, and he needs to boot, boot, boot. I'm standing around. What am I supposed to do in the meantime, Joe? What am I supposed to be doing while he's doing when he's backing up, and he's looking to see if the double team's coming, and he's steady backing up? What am I supposed to be doing?

52:47Chad Johnson:Look, your opportunity is going to come, but they're going to be far few in between. They ain't going to be like they used to. So the ones that you do get, Ocho, you know, you got to make them count, bro. You got to make them count. Because, see, once you play with a lot of talent like this, I feel like the NBA is running into this because you have a lot of guys teaming up, a lot of star players teaming up with other star players. Bro, it takes some, you know, sacrificing a little bit. You know what I mean? So you're going to have to. You can't come out thinking you're finna average 30 and you win Maxi, Eskimo, and B.

53:22Chad Johnson:What I'm saying is, man, that efficient 22 a night, 24 a night that you probably can give them, gonna be far better than you trying to get 30. You feel me? Like, I think they got, I'm with you, Ocho. I think they got enough players to where they can take pressure off one another and make the game a lot easier and simpler for them. And winning cures it all. Hell, if they winning, come on now. Hey, Philly, I know. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

53:47Shannon Sharpe:Hello. Boston just won and they broke it up. They just won the championship two years ago, Joe. Man, if you... Let me ask your question, Joe. You say I sacrifice points. But in sacrificing points, guess what else I'm sacrificing? An opportunity to be All-NBA. An opportunity to be All-Star. And guess what else that means at the end of that All-Star and All-Pro... Oh, excuse me. All-NBA is what?

54:10Chad Johnson:Max contract. Hold on, baby. Hold on. We're talking about two players that's been paid already. And B, they've been paid already. Maxie's been paid already. JB's been paid already.

54:18Shannon Sharpe:Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on. Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth. You talking about I've been paid already. What's better than A? Yeah, y 'all can be.

54:26Chad Johnson:Hey, hey. I don't know if you're talking about it that I've been paid already.

54:28Shannon Sharpe:This man want another 300 million. You want to want a double dip? Yeah. They want a double dip. You got to realize JB is 29. Hey, hey, hey.

54:39Chad Johnson:And not only that, Maxie might be 24, 25. Oh, Maxie's going to get his regardless, though. he already just signed he want another one I'm just saying he going to get it anyway listen I'm not a basketball savant I don't have the knowledge of the game the way y 'all do I just think those two can operate together I just think they do oh I believe they can yeah I think they can too I believe it will be a little smoother if Embiid wasn't there hey think about this what if they had a center like Cat I'm not saying that Cat would be I'm just saying a center like Kat that's not clogging up the paint that can, boom, be out there.

55:21Chad Johnson:Spacers. Like a stretch. I think MB can play that role to some degree because he's a good pick and pop big who can shoot the ball. But the thing is, man, every time we come down court, if you sitting on the block waiting for the ball, calling for the ball, then that's going to be a problem, Ocho. You got to set some of these up picks. Set me a screen right where I'm across half. That way I got a lot more real estate to work with. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, but every time we come down, I'm getting into my dance, and you run down there posting up, damn, I need you to get out of the way.

55:50Chad Johnson:Trying to get through here. Hey, Joe, that's why you got to call play, Joe. No, no, listen. What I'm saying, look, JB is good enough to where in transition, he's going to be a nightmare. Defensively, you know, he should get 6 to 10 points, 6 to 12 points off of defense alone just by being in the passing lane, being disruptive, stealing skills. He has that type of body. Him and Eshcombe. That's why I like this move for the Sixers, and I think they're going to cause a lot of hell, boy, in the Eastern Conference. Boy, you know what?

56:25Shannon Sharpe:The Celtics don't hold him in very high regard. Ain't no way in hell I'm trading a guy that was in the MVP discussion the whole year. That's the All-NBA selection who's a Finals MVP of Eastern Conference, and I'm going to trade him to one of our rival rivals? That's what I'm saying. And that would kind of, but that tell you, I don't, I don't, hey. You know, hey, you know what that mean? Hey, baby, you can go date anybody you want to.

56:46Chad Johnson:Don't you date my homeboy? Hey, you know what that mean? You know how bad you want to get rid of something to let them go? I'm going to use it in NFL terms. You know how bad you got to let something go? If you play for Cincinnati, you say, you know what, forget it. I'm going to ship them to Cleveland. You know what, forget it. I'm going to ship them to Pittsburgh. You know what, forget it. I'm going to ship them to the Ravens because I just want to get him, I just want to get up off of him. You want off it. Yeah. You right? Damn, man. I ain't see this coming. I ain't going to lie to you. I did.

57:13Chad Johnson:You did see it coming.

57:14Shannon Sharpe:All this talking, you saw it coming. No, no. You probably didn't see him going to Philly. Yeah. But you know they had to move him.

57:22Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know that. But not to Philly, though. Damn. You know what I'm... Okay, okay. He probably could have kept his house.

57:28Shannon Sharpe:Because we've been talking about it. He leaving Boston.

57:30Chad Johnson:You know what else, too, Uncle Joe? I'm glad not only did he let him go, they sent him somewhere we can contend. They put the right pieces around. you already got Max, you already got Embiid I'm not sure, obviously I think NBA when is NBA started already? Not some league where you can continue to improve your team and get assets oh yeah it started today I mean

57:57Shannon Sharpe:you can start, but yeah, you see people already trading and things of that nature but you look at McKay Bridges he goes for five first round three pick swaps. Desmond Bain, four first rounders two pick swaps. Jaron Jackson three first rounders. You look at all the first rounders that they gave up and what you call go for Paul George? Paul George got a bad contract too. Paul George making over$50 million a year. If he was that Paul George and Andy, he was that Paul George when he was with Russell Westbrook Look at OKC. You got him at a bargain. Because that Paul George was a hellion on both ends of the court.

58:40Chad Johnson:Yeah.

58:41Shannon Sharpe:This Paul George right here.

58:44Chad Johnson:Hey, hold up. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. See, you looking at him, hell, when he averaging 26 a game. I ain't looking at him like he averaging 26 a game. Yeah, I understand that. I understand that part. That's how he getting paid. But we got to be realistic. You know what I'm saying? He's going to Boston, bro. I think he can be a valuable piece. Is he going to do what Brown done? No, he ain't going to do that. Why the hell you moving? He going to be a great complimentary piece to Jason Tatum. Hell, we ain't going to have to deal with no riffraff neither, man.

59:15Shannon Sharpe:Jason, Jay LeBron didn't give y 'all no riffraff. If you didn't like me, just say you didn't like me. But y 'all smiling and cheesing in my face. And all the while, y 'all talking ish behind my back. That's the problem I got. I don't have no problem playing with JT. As a matter of fact, he and I get along great. Do we do anything off the court? Nah, that man got his life. I got mine. I'm okay with that. I didn't come to Boston to meet any new friends. I came to try to win a championship and improve and get better and contribute. That's what I came to Boston for. But this notion, y 'all pat me on my back and y 'all saying all this stuff to me.

59:57All the while, y 'all leaking stuff about this and about that.

1:00:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, it's going to piss me off. He knew that.

1:00:07Chad Johnson:He played it right, though. He played his cards right. Hey, I know what. I know what. MB better be getting his ass in some shape because JB going to call him out.

1:00:18Shannon Sharpe:Apple and Pears are shapes.

1:00:20Chad Johnson:Huh? Apple and Pears are shapes. Nah, JB going to call him out. Hey, hey, JB coming over there to win. He ain't come over there to play no games, man. Yeah, he coming over to win, Uncle Ocho. Yeah, I mean, listen.

1:00:33Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all go ahead. I'm going to go get me another show.

1:00:35Chad Johnson:Yeah, Joe, you're right. I still think it's going to be a good thing. I know Philly fans should be happy. Philly fans should be happy. What? You should be stoked, obviously. It also should be encouraging to Embiid to know, okay, I got Maxie. I got JB coming in. I need to come in in the best shape of my life. So I can not only contribute, but I can also have a season where I can play as many games as possible and be as effective as possible. You know, that's my mindset. I'm not sure how Embiid thinks, but I think they're going to be nice. And now they are a contender too. They're a contender. As they continue to get assets, you know, now that free agency is going on right now, they're going to be a contender.

1:01:18Chad Johnson:One little move changes the trajectory of an organization. Yeah, I agree. I like them in the East. They'll definitely be contending. I'd say top five team in the East, top four or five team. But, yeah, if Embiid come in in shape, bro, and ready to go, ready to work, Ocho, like I say, I'm trying to be realistic here when I say him playing 60 games because if he's healthy and ready, bro, the chemistry and continuity should be there. You know what I mean? It's when he's not playing and those guys out there just free-flowing, you know what I mean? having fun, enjoying the game, and it looks a lot different.

1:02:00Chad Johnson:You feel me? When everybody gets a chance to touch the ball, now Max and Edgecombe, they in their bag, you know, playing great. And then when Embiid comes back, now we're back to this slowdown pace, and it's hard, bro. It's hard to gain momentum like that. So they're going to have to figure that part out. It's really going to be up to Embiid.

1:02:17Shannon Sharpe:I can't believe Joe.

1:02:19Chad Johnson:What's up?

1:02:19Shannon Sharpe:They have been in the league 13 years, and now all of a sudden, in the year 13, we're going to ask him to come in healthy and hungry and in condition. Wow. So when we gave you that max contract, that was asking too much. And then when you had two years left on the contract, and we gave you an extra three years that kicks in this year, that was asking too much for you to do that. But now, we got Jalen Brown, that's what we need from you.

1:02:44Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, that's what we need. That's what we need, big fella. We know you've been bogged down with some injuries, knickknacks, hand there, okay, cool. But look, now, We need you to get it in gear. We need you to get it in gear because we got guys around you who we know can get to it. And are proven winners. So, yeah, man, we need you. Huh?

1:03:04Shannon Sharpe:That's what you wishing, huh? Yeah. Okay, I tell you what. I tell you what. Wishing one hand and pooping the other and see which one fill up. That was great. He said, I tell you, you wishing, huh? He said, wishing one hand, pooping the other, and see which one fill up. Okay. I'll be right here. That's the thing I love about it. Because now that you know it's Ocho and Iso, we get you all year, so we're going to see.

1:03:31Chad Johnson:We're going to see, baby. That's the beauty about it. Let's go. I like it. I like it. I like it.

1:03:38Shannon Sharpe:This man... Look, my thing is that I think we all in agreeance. We saw this coming. It was too much momentum. them. It was too much talking. In years past, it was whispers, you know, JB and this. There might be some butter gutter head. There might be some envy. I don't believe it was envy on either one of those guys' part. This was Boston did this. Boston started leaking information to certain people and they started talking. And JB was like, well, I ain't say that. I ain't do that. Why all of a sudden I don't bother nobody. I ain't never been in trouble I don't run a file with the law y 'all don't see me out here in the club he had a lady nice little lady she was nice she used to be a WNBA player it was a season that's all they needed it was a season but for the most part that man don't bother nobody

1:04:36Chad Johnson:yeah

1:04:37Shannon Sharpe:and he's like I'm just trying to figure out why of all the people the way I play hard on both ends of the court I give you everything there's never No one has ever questioned, does JB play hard? Does JB care about winning? Is JB in shape? Nobody has ever questioned my dedication, my love, my purpose for the game. Yet I hear everything that comes out about in Boston, my name is attached to it.

1:05:06Chad Johnson:Well, maybe it's something we don't know, Uncle Joe. Maybe it's something we don't know that was going on internally. Most of the time. No, we know what's going on. Watch, watch, and it always happens. Once the player leaves, look what they did to Miles Garrett once Miles Garrett left Cleveland. All of a sudden, now you got something bad to say about him. So whatever was going on internally that we don't know about that caused the ruckus and some of the leaks to come from inside the house, something going to come out soon. Watch. Guarantee you.

1:05:36Shannon Sharpe:Can I – let me explain. This is what I think. This is me. I don't know anything. I don't know anybody in Boston. I'm trying to get up to Brockton, Massachusetts. I heard they got some nice scenery. Got some nice tall buildings up there in Brockton, Mass. That's what I hear. I don't know, but I'm trying to get up and take a look around. But anyway, this is what I think. I think the Boston Celtics, JV got there first, but I've always believed, and I said this on Undisputed, they've always valued Jason Tater more than they valued Jalen Brown.

1:06:08Chad Johnson:Right.

1:06:09Shannon Sharpe:And it's hard not to let that rub you the wrong way because I'm putting in just as much effort, just as much energy. I'm taking the tougher of assignments. You didn't guard Luka Doncic. I did. And when we had, yeah, we took turns guarding LeBron James X, Y, and Z. But for the most part, I had that assignment to begin with. And I don't know what else I can do to ingratiate myself. So he's always felt slighted. No matter what he did, no matter how well he played, it was always, this is JT's team, he's 1A. well why can't I be 1A and he be 1B why I gotta be 1B because we all know A is the first letter of the alphabet but whether they say 1A or 1B what do they still tell you Ocho you second I can't identify all the languages alphabet but A in the English

1:07:03Chad Johnson:is first you are right you are right

1:07:10Shannon Sharpe:no oh no Oh, when they put a question, they put one. They said, okay, the first question, one. Do they put B, A, C, D, or do they put A, B, C, D?

1:07:26Chad Johnson:Hey, listen, we know he got a good argument, though. Hey, look, I'm the finals MVP.

1:07:31Shannon Sharpe:Of course, he got a great argument.

1:07:32Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, I'm the finals MVP. I'm the Eastern Conference MVP. When we get there, I show up and show out. You feel me? I think that's more of what JB is trying to, you know, get his point across. Like, damn, like every time I look up, my name is always in conversations.

1:07:49Shannon Sharpe:Always.

1:07:50Chad Johnson:You know what I mean? So you're right, Unc. They've always valued Jason Tater more than they did JB, and he understands that. That's why he going to go out here. He going to show up and show out, man. Hey, I think he got there.

1:08:02Shannon Sharpe:Huh? And he would be disingenuous if he said it doesn't bother you because you've seen situations where parents have put emphasis on one kid more than the other, and the kid resented the child, the other sibling, even though they had nothing to do with it.

1:08:20Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:08:25Shannon Sharpe:There's a little truth even in a lie. So even if things were coming out of Boston wasn't the full truth, JB knew there was some truth in it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It bothered him. Even after this season, when they took what he said, I know what he meant. He said, this was the most fun I had. Martin said, well, I mean, you mean to tell me we have a 3-1 lead. We lose. And you talking about you had fun? Oh, you had fun because you got you some numbers on.

1:08:58Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:08:58Shannon Sharpe:Oh, okay. Okay. All right. Hey, hey, okay. You remember Denzel when they had Denzel in the jungle? Okay. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.

1:09:08Chad Johnson:I'm going to put, I'm going to put, what did he say? I'm going to put what? You think you could do this to me? Shoe program, nigga.

1:09:20Shannon Sharpe:23 hours.

1:09:23Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:09:24Shannon Sharpe:People thought he was talking about shoe program. That's special housing unit. That's what, the 23-hour lockdown, we're doing a special housing unit. You get 23-hour lockdown.

1:09:33Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:09:35Shannon Sharpe:They might let your ass out to take a shower. Hey, yeah, you get an hour for a shower and maybe walk around in the yard. Damn. Buy your lonesome. But you damn sure ain't doing nothing with somebody else. Man, look, I hope he gets out there and ball too. Because I like him. But we knew when you become this outspoken, it's just a matter of time.

1:10:00Chad Johnson:it's just a matter of time. And when you're just outspoken, there's no better way to shut their ass up than to come out here and perform at a high level night in and night out. You know what's funny?

1:10:11Shannon Sharpe:He won't lock their ass out of the playoffs. Lord, just let me get through this little situation. Hey, that man might be Michael Jordan.

1:10:20Chad Johnson:He want to see them in the playoffs. He want to play a seven-game play. Listen, I'm telling you. I'm telling you what it's like, bro. Hey, I'm turning him loose.

1:10:31Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hold up. Who the nurse? Nick Nurse, Dakota. Hey, JB. I'm turning him loose.

1:10:40Chad Johnson:Doesn't this put pressure back on JT as well? Jalen Brown going on. 1 ,000%. He's never felt so much pressure. We saw what Jalen Brown did while you was hurt. Now we give you the keys to the team. We don't have to worry about no 1A or 1B no more. This is your team. Now can you replicate what Jalen Brown did while you was hurt? Can you get us to the promise lane side? Yeah.

1:11:05Shannon Sharpe:Brian Windhorse just reported, even though Jalen Brown was talking about himself for MVP, the Celtics did not feel like Jalen had the best season of their team. They felt like Derrick White had a better season. Boston got a chill. They just got out of hand.

1:11:24Chad Johnson:They just got out of hand. Are they trying to be funny, Joe? Man, I don't know what they're trying to turn into a comedy show. That's what they're trying to do. Hey, Wynn Horst, you know, hey, don't mess up your credibility, man. Don't mess up your credibility. In fact, I wouldn't even have wrote that, Joe. I wouldn't even have wrote that. Come on, man.

1:11:46Shannon Sharpe:Here are Derek White's numbers in 25-26. He averaged 16.5 points a game, 4.4 rebounds a game, 5.4 assists per game. His net rating on and off was plus 6. Jalen Brown averaged almost 29, almost 7 rebounds, 5 assists. When he's off, they're minus 6.2.

1:12:13Chad Johnson:Joe, are they serious? Man, come on, bro. They got to chill.

1:12:20Shannon Sharpe:You know how it is. you've been on jobs. Nobody ever say anything bad about you while you there. You show up to work every single day on time. The moment you leave, he was difficult to work with. No, I just didn't take no job. I wasn't going to let y 'all pay me peanuts. So if that makes me difficult, yeah, I'm difficult. I'm very difficult. I wasn't going to let you lie to me. You told me one thing and then when I said, I said, you told me this and then you try to not hold your feet to the fire yeah I'm difficult to work with

1:12:56Chad Johnson:yeah yeah hey yeah I know what it is just like that girl just like just like that girl you was when you was with her it was oh man yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah they put it down yeah when you ain't with her boy she talk bad about you yeah she was he ain't got no motion like that his Stroke ain't like that. Try to hurt my feet.

1:13:19Shannon Sharpe:I want to know one thing. Did you tell your friends, did he crack? So he wasn't like that.

1:13:25Chad Johnson:You let him crack for four years, five years, six years. Man, Joe, I ain't experienced that one yet. What? Yeah, I like that example, though. Hey, but I want to know, hey, are you sure that was written? Oh, that's not AI? I mean, because, I mean, like, come on, man. Come on, man. Come on, come on, come on. I mean, especially, like, if you don't like him, you know, those that are inside the organization. But don't report on no bullshit. Excuse me. No bull crap like that. Y 'all know damn well.

1:18:50Shannon Sharpe:But think about it. Which one of those two guys went to the Olympics? Oh, don't start that. Don't start that. Don't do that. Joe, tell him how. Joe, Ocho, do you realize people, that's how they do. They look at like, well, he went to the Olympics, so he got to be better.

1:19:15Chad Johnson:Nah, hell no. Uh-uh.

1:19:18Shannon Sharpe:We smart enough to know, but everybody, sometimes if it comes from the organization, it got to be true.

1:19:25Chad Johnson:Well, the devil is a lie. Shoot, somebody in the organization must got one eye like me. Because I can see better than what they talking about. Man, we all know it was a money issue, bro. They ain't want to have to deal with that. Obviously, JB made it a little easy for them, but...

1:19:41Shannon Sharpe:Yes.

1:19:42Chad Johnson:They weren't trying to do that.

1:19:44Shannon Sharpe:Damn. Immediately after the trade, Abelio of Jalen criticizing Embiid for flopping made its rounds. Let's take a listen to this video. I mean, this is my personal opinion on basketball. Some of y 'all might disagree. You know what I mean? But argue with your grandma. Flopping has ruined our game. Joel Embiid is a great player. One of the best bigs in fucking basketball history. Flops. He know it. This ain't breaking news. This ain't, you know what I mean? It is what it is. Y 'all can clip it up. Like I said, y 'all can post it on. these paid accounts that y 'all these bought whatever that's just my opinion

1:20:29Chad Johnson:hey i like that joe he didn't he ain't tell no lie ocho he ain't tell no lie you know what i mean does he is do i want to call it flopping at times i guess you can't but he sells it he sells it whenever you touch him or whenever you initiate that contact yeah he gonna sell it and i'm sure he'll tell him that to his face because he did say he was a great player he He said he's a great player, but he does flop. One of the best big men to play this game. So obviously he gave his credit. He gave his kudos. But he did say there's a part of your game where you're a little excessive, you know, on a flopping.

1:21:04Shannon Sharpe:And you're a big man. You're a big man. Play like a big man sometimes. That man 7 '2", well over 300 pounds.

1:21:11Chad Johnson:And he dropped like a sack of potatoes. Listen, listen. See, but here's the thing. Guys who love to score the basketball, Uncle Ocho, they're willing to do whatever they can to manipulate. the defense, the referees, I don't give a damn what it is. They enjoy scoring. They want to get two points. You talking about Shea? Yeah, he knows how to manipulate the game. Yeah.

1:21:32Shannon Sharpe:I'm accentuating. I'm accentuating. Yeah. I'm accentuating. Ah! And one! Hey, you got to hit that cat. You got to hit that cat.

1:21:45Chad Johnson:Oh my God!

1:21:49Shannon Sharpe:So, I got to do Hey, I got to do whatever I can to get this call.

1:21:58Shannon Sharpe:Miles Bridges, a 2029 first round pick, a 2027 second round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Grayson Allen, Royce O 'Neal, and a 2033 first round pick. 20, damn. 2033? Hey, we sure the world going to be around in 2033? Yeah, yeah. Hopefully we going to be here. Yeah. Damn. But Bridge signed through one more season at about$22.8 million, and he's set to be an unrestricted free agent ahead, and he'll be only the age of 29 years of age in 2027. Joe, considering this was the first time in a very, very long time the Charlotte Hornets had been successful. They had a very, very young team, young, budging stars.

1:22:44Shannon Sharpe:You look at Mellow, you look at Knipple, you look at Miller. You know, they traded and get Kobe White. They were starting, and it's seeming like they blew it all up. Are you surprised at the steps that the Hornets are taking, considering this is the first time in a very long time, they've enjoyed some level of success?

1:23:02Chad Johnson:No, no, I'm not surprised at all, fellas. You got to look at it from this point. They haven't had any value over there in Charlotte for quite some time. Okay, now that they finally created some value, okay, boom, Now we got some assets that we can kind of use to kind of go out and get more assets. Because, look, these guys are coming up for contracts. We ain't finna pay LaMelo 250, 300 M's. So he got the highest value. Real talk, he got the highest value that he's ever had. Let's try to get off of him, get some great competent pieces back to where we can just build around Miller and Knipple. And I think that's kind of what it's been.

1:23:40Chad Johnson:Now you look at Miles Bridges, who's coming up. He's probably, he's going to be looking for a new contract here soon.

1:23:46Shannon Sharpe:He's going to be on 35, 40 per year, over four or five years. Yeah.

1:23:50Chad Johnson:Yeah, so listen, great elite talent, physical scoring forward, bro, who thrives in transition. You can give him the ball at times, and he can ISO you and go get a bucket. He's a high-energy, live threat guy. Remember what I was telling y 'all yesterday, man, that the teams are starting to go with a lot of these tweener guys. because Miles Bridges ain't about 6 '6", 6 '7". You know what I'm saying? But he got a long, about 6 '11 wingspan. So he's able to play the 4 and 3. So he's a tweener guy who you put around, I would say a big, whoever you're going to have, but you have all these guys who can score the basketball and defend at a high level.

1:24:29Chad Johnson:I think that's kind of where the game is going. But considering that Charlotte wasn't going to pay Miles Bridges, Uncle Ocho, why not? He got some value too. Hey, Uncle, I got a question too. Yes. Obviously, Joe, you just stated, obviously, the Charlotte Hornets haven't had much success. The people in Charlotte haven't had much to cheer about. But you have a player in Miles Bridges. You have someone that's exciting, that's polarizing, very unpredictably when he's on the court, like LaMelo. And you let him go and you say, Joe, you know, financial reasons, you don't want to pay him what they're going to earn and what they're projected to make.

1:25:04Chad Johnson:You want to get off of him because of the money. and then you bring in other players that are not as polarizing, you know, that aren't as good. So what message are you sending not only to the team, but to your fans also? It ain't that you're not trying to win. Look, you went and got Nas Reed. I mean, if you get Nas Reed and you got Miles Bridges, that's why I'm saying I can see why they're getting rid of Bridges. You know, because Nas Reed, hell, he making about$25 million a year. Okay, Ocho. Five years, 125. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so what they're going to do is they're going to go with this young quarter they have, and they believe in Kobe White, who came over from Chicago, who was great in those games, in those playing games.

1:25:45Chad Johnson:And I think they're going to try to ride this wave with these guys for a couple years and see what happens. What wave is that, Joe?

1:25:52Shannon Sharpe:I agree with you, Joe, because when you look at it, okay, we got Knipple and we got Miller that's going to be up for contracts. Those contracts between the two is going to be north of$350, maybe even close to$400 million. Now we got LaMelo. We're not going to play LaMelo$250,$300 million. We're just not. We're not fooling. And plus, the market, we can't support that in this market. So it's not like they're in New York. It's not like they're in L.A. and they have this abundance, these big sponsors and corporate dollars that's just pouring in. It's just not there. It has to make sense. and people are like, well, they're trying to win, but I'm trying to win on a budget.

1:26:33Shannon Sharpe:Ocho say, I want to look nice, but if I can look nice at$100 as opposed to spending$1 ,000, guess how I'm going to look nice?

1:26:40Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:26:41Shannon Sharpe:Spending$100 as opposed. So they're saying if we can win and be successful, hey, we're in the play-in. Yeah. If we're going to be in the play-in, we're going to be in the play-in spending maybe a year,$200 million a year. I bet damn if we're going to be spending, have guys on$300 million, 250, 225, 185, 125. That's not going to happen. So I'm kind of not surprised that the witness, especially when they got Kobe White, and it's like he's kind of more typical of the point guard that we kind of want because he can distribute the ball. Not to say Melo can't, but Melo likes to shoot the ball too. And now when you got Brandon Miller and you got Con Caniple, we want somebody that's going to distribute the ball to them.

1:27:28Shannon Sharpe:It's going to be, look.

1:27:29Chad Johnson:Well, the thing is, you know, if we just keeping it real, LaMelo ain't deferring to Miller nor Con Caneple. No, he's not going to do that. Hey, hey, I got this thing going, Ocho. Look, y 'all ass got to catch up, okay? You got to catch up. Hey, I'll find you when I find you. You know, that's just the real talk. He been there the longest. You know, hey, man, he's admired by the youth. This is what it is. The dude is a superstar. You know what I mean? He ain't going to slow down and try to, oh, let me make sure he get this. Yeah, he'll make sure they get one here, you know, two there. But for the most part, man, I got this thing rolling.

1:28:01Chad Johnson:Y 'all boys better catch up.

1:28:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You're exactly right. And that's, I mean, in order to, and he wants to flourish. Yeah. I think he's made the All-Star. Did he make the All-Star team? Hadn't he made the All-Star team?

1:28:11Chad Johnson:I think he has. I think he has made one at least.

1:28:15Shannon Sharpe:Joe, you know you get a taste of the All-Star. But you around, you're like, hold on. Man, they go Bron, they go Steph, KB.

1:28:22Chad Johnson:They do something to you. Yes, sir.

1:28:24Shannon Sharpe:Oh, hold on. They go Bronson, Ant-Man. I'm in here too. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I can't go back. Oh, no. Yeah, no. Oh, no. But I think for me, watching them over the last little bit, I think they saw enough in Kobe White that it made this decision a lot easier than it would have been had they not had Kobe White. Oh, yeah. I agree. They watched the way he played, and he's more of the typical kind of point guard because they want to kind of put their team towards Miller and Knipple.

1:28:55Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:28:56Shannon Sharpe:That's kind of why they want to go.

1:28:57Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:28:58Shannon Sharpe:And I don't think – and Kobe White, what did he sign? A three-year,$74,$72,$74 million? We can stomach that. Melo next contract, Melo was going to be on the verge of a contract. If he makes an all-star game or he's an all-NBA player, that contract was going to be over$200 million. Oh, easy, easy, easy, easy, easy. Brandon Miller's contract, Brandon Miller's going to be doing contract. If he makes an all-star team, he's an all-NBA. You see what his contract's going to be. And so I think, you know, and it doesn't look good to the fans of Charlotte because they're looking at it like, man, we just started to be good.

1:29:38Shannon Sharpe:We finally was able to draft players and not all these bust talents that we draft the year after year after year and never materialized to anything. We finally drafted players. We drafted Melo. We drafted Miller. We drafted Knipple. And those guys are starting to play. And as soon as they start to play, well, damn, we get off of one of them.

1:29:57Chad Johnson:Hey, but it's not backtracking, Ocho. What you got to look at, you got to look at the additions that you've made to your team. Hell, you feel like those additions, let alone, they should be able to keep you where you're at. If you're in the play-in, I mean, hell, ain't like we was a playoff team for real. You know what I mean? Yeah. So I don't think they could go no lower than where they were already at. Right. You know what I mean?

1:30:19Shannon Sharpe:I think I said, I don't know if mistook me, but I said Mello. I think Mello has made an all-star team. I know Miles Bridges hasn't made an all-star team, but I think Mello has. Can we check that ass right quick?

1:30:34Chad Johnson:Miles Bridges having, but Uncle Ocho, I'm telling you, I think he averaged about 17, 18 a game this year. Hey, Miles Bridges is going to help the Phoenix Suns, bro. The Phoenix Suns got to figure something out. if they're going to continue to play Devin Booker heavy at the point guard, but they're going to have a plethora of guys who can score the ball, defend. You know, they looking decent.

1:30:56Shannon Sharpe:But Joe, yeah, Melo made the all-star, one all-star in 2021. Melo, Joe, but that's not what Book is. You're paying just because somebody can do something, that doesn't mean that you should. I agree. That is hindering him. they need to get a point guard and put book at his natural position, which is a point guard. I mean, excuse me, two guards, the same problem that they had in, uh, in Houston.

1:31:24Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:31:24Shannon Sharpe:I'm in Thompson. It's not a damn point.

1:31:26Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:31:27Shannon Sharpe:I don't care how much you try to make him that put the ball. Hey, okay. So we're going to put the bank. We're going to show you that we trust you. Okay. And yeah, you trust him, but that's not what he is. I play a book and book. got to get everybody else involved and by the same token trying to keep himself involved yeah yeah it's just it's too much but i thought much guys they they they overthink this and they think oh he's a great basketball player there have been very few guys that could that could like you know what this is the position that he played but he's also equally as talented in that position there have been only been a handful of guys in the history of the game that's ever ever been able to do that.

1:32:10Chad Johnson:Hey, Uncle Joe.

1:32:11Shannon Sharpe:What's that?

1:32:11Chad Johnson:Y 'all confuse me a little bit now. Now the traditional point guard is going away. We don't have that no more in today's game. And most of the time, some of the point guards in today's game, you got to be able to score. Why is it uncomfortable for Book to, why would you want Book to go to the two when he can run the point and score as well? That's his natural position, Ocho. That's his natural position. He's a natural score. He's a natural shooter. And can he go get it on his own? Yes. But if he had a point guard who could get him some easy buckets here and there. I like when he had Chris Paul.

1:32:42Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah.

1:32:43Shannon Sharpe:Go look at his numbers when he had Chris Paul.

1:32:45Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:32:46Shannon Sharpe:Because it's too much on his plate. He's got to think about a lot of other things. Right. Steph Curry. But if you look at a lot of their offenses, Draymond initiates a lot of the Golden State's offense. He always has.

1:32:59Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:33:00Shannon Sharpe:Some of these guys, and James Harden, but you got to realize, from the very jump When James Harden got to Houston, they put the ball in his hands.

1:33:10Chad Johnson:Hey, but what we do got to remember now, scoring is a premium in the NBA nowadays. Yes. And to put Book in that position, back in that position, in that two-guard spot, to where he don't have to work as hard throughout the first three quarters, Uncle Ocho, but in the fourth quarter, I ain't going to lie to you. I want him with the ball in his hands. He's got to be able to pace himself in that way to where he don't burn out.

1:33:35Shannon Sharpe:I'm going to tell my guy, pick his ass up. He got the ball in his hand, pick his ass up.

1:33:39Chad Johnson:Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying the first three quarters play within the offense. In that fourth quarter, when it's money time, hey, hey, we coming to our money tonight. Hey, y 'all get y 'all ass out the way. You know what time it is. Get that man the ball. You know what I mean? And when you got guys like that around you, bro, and you know that and that's going to go hard for you, hey, man, I think it makes the game a lot easier. So I do think that the Phoenix Suns need a point guard. They got so much talent over there. on that perimeter that I think one of them guys going to have to go.

1:34:12Shannon Sharpe:Who on the pool are you talking about?

1:34:14Chad Johnson:I'm saying you got Green, you got Brooks, you got –

1:34:17Shannon Sharpe:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, yeah, yeah. But they already don't play no damn defense. You let Dylan Brooks go, he's the only guy that's playing defense.

1:34:24Chad Johnson:Hey, hold on. They gave up Grayson Allen and my boy Rose O 'Neal. They both went to Charlotte.

1:34:28Shannon Sharpe:No, that's your defense.

1:34:29Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah. So now you got Dylan Brooks.

1:34:32Shannon Sharpe:you already know Jalen Green ain't playing no defense. Who are we kidding? Book played great defense in the Olympic team. He said, but I'll be willing to do that. I ain't willing to do

1:34:42Chad Johnson:that with Phoenix. But you know the problem is that Phoenix was so hurt last season that Green didn't play a lot so Dylan Brooks he was able to kind of get into his bag. Then I think Booker missed a lot of time as well. You know what I mean? So they wasn't full strength. So we don't know what they'll look like, you know, full strength as a team. Obviously, somebody will probably have to sacrifice a little bit. But I like the direction they're going. I just think they're going to have to make some decisions, bro.

1:35:13Shannon Sharpe:Hold on. Dylan Brooks says, I finally showed y 'all that now all of a sudden I'm not the fourth option. What I can do. I just showed y 'all, now you want me to sacrifice?

1:35:22Chad Johnson:Uh-oh. Here we go. Hold on.

1:35:24Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all done forgot about me. All these two started to do all this stuff. Y 'all done forgot about me. Now you want me to sacrifice? Here we go. Oh, okay. Remember, at the end of the day, Joe, I need y 'all to be talking, because when these rankings come out, and when everybody talk about these execs, who you want to start a team with, ain't nobody mentioning me. When they mention the top 25, I see I'm in the 20s. Oh, hell no.

1:35:49Chad Johnson:Oh, son, son, don't worry about that. We building something over here. Listen, we trying to win a title. We trying to win. Listen, it's been a different champion. It's been a different champion every year for the past eight years. Damn it, we're looking to be the next one.

1:36:03Shannon Sharpe:You know what, Joe? I'm glad you're building it, but I better be the head carpenter. I better be the head carpenter. I got all the hammers and the nails. Hey, hey, hey.

1:36:13Chad Johnson:I want everybody else to be subcontracted. I tell you what. I tell you. I tell you. You go out there and do your job, and I'm going to do my job, okay? Yeah, you do your job, and then I'm going to take care of everything else. Don't you worry about it. You know what my job is, Joe? What's your job? Score. Give me about 20 shots a night and score. I know. I need you to play both ends.

1:36:30Shannon Sharpe:See, that's the problem. I ain't going to be able to do that, Joe. That takes too much out of me. It's exhausting. It's exhausting.

1:36:34Chad Johnson:No, we need you as that emotional leader. We need you. We don't need you just coming out here jacking up 25 shots a night. They won't need that.

1:36:41Shannon Sharpe:We need you to be able to change the game, bro. Joe, you just said points are at a premium. Tell me the guys that are getting paid. What do they do? They scoring their ball. You see right now? But, hey, Jalen Durant, hey, he feeling some type of way, Joe. He's like, they got an offer on the table. He's saying, I'm thinking about a signing trade. They say, we ain't say nothing about that. We say he. Because guys see guys that are making the big bucks, putting the ball in the basket at a very, very high level. It's all, Ocho, it's the same way in football. Who can, what receivers are getting paid?

1:37:22Shannon Sharpe:What do they do, Ocho? Do they catch the football or do they block?

1:37:26Chad Johnson:Catch that ball. Exactly. Listen, man. Everybody got a job to do. If we playing against a guy who averaging 28, damn it, don't let him get 28 tonight. Can you do that for me? Can you do that for me?

1:37:41Shannon Sharpe:Hey, if you think about it, Joe, hell damn, everybody you play averaging that. So you got me playing defense every night and showing my offense.

1:37:49Chad Johnson:That's what I'm saying. The guys that you guarding, they putting up buckets, man. You got to make it tough on these guys nowadays, bro. And listen, the way this offseason is going, it looks like it's going to be a four out and one in, and all folk can get to that money. That's what it looks like. That's what teams trying to build.

1:38:13Shannon Sharpe:If you look at it, if you look at, like, the Knicks and the Thunder, the last two, I don't know, Joe. teams ain't, because normally it's a copycat league. I don't see nobody copying that. You don't see nobody copying what? The Knicks and the Thunder?

1:38:32Chad Johnson:Nope, they're not. You know what they're doing? They're selling the franchise. Hold on. They're selling the fans dreams. Are you really trying to win or are you trying to make money? Well, hold on. If you look at the landscape of the NBA, Joe, if you're like being honest with yourself, putting fandom aside, look at the West and look at the East. How many teams on the West can truly contend for a championship? How many teams from the East can truly contend for a championship based on the way their teams are built? It's only so many, Joe. Every other franchise, you look what Charlotte did. You know what?

1:39:08Chad Johnson:We trying to take shortcuts. That's what we trying to do. We getting ready two stars. We going to get some guys, you know, hardworking guys, that don't cost much, but we're going to act like we're trying to win. But we're letting the better players walk. Listen. Because we don't want to pay them. It ain't, y 'all already know you can count on one hand. It ain't but a few big men that we really got in this league that can play the center position and they can shoot the three. It ain't but, hell, about three guys, four guys.

1:39:37Shannon Sharpe:That's it.

1:39:37Chad Johnson:And San Antonio got one and the Knicks got one. OKC got one.

1:39:42Shannon Sharpe:Joker, that's not, he don't live there in B. But it's really like four guys, Joe. Like you said, 6 '11", 7 '0", a little taller than you shoot the three. Yeah. Other than that. No, it ain't. It ain't, bro. I ain't counting. I don't be really. You know, Triple J has tried to add that to his resume, but I don't really care that he shoots that shot.

1:40:01Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:40:03Shannon Sharpe:But he was a guy that got paid, Joe. Yeah. He was an all-star, and he was an all-NBA selection and a defensive player of the year. So when you look at it, they had to pay him. But I'm looking at that, and I'm like, uh, nah. Mm-mm.

1:40:17Chad Johnson:Well, they ain't. Hey, look. Utah ain't even gave it a chance yet. We don't even know what it looked like because, hell, they done sat him on the bench as soon as he got over there so they could get the number two pick.

1:40:27Shannon Sharpe:So they get number two? Yeah, absolutely.

1:40:28Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:40:30Shannon Sharpe:Miles Turner. You know, Miles Turner, you know, shoot the three, play defense. Little offensive guy. He give you 15 and eight. Yeah. You can live with 15 and eight. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes I think he falls in love too much with the three. But what player doesn't, Joe, when a couple of them go in early? Who doesn't fall in love with it? We saw that with Wimby. Wimby had some success. And we're like, Wimby, will you please get your ass down there? Man, you 9 '2". Get your ass down there, man, and stop hanging out around the three-point line. We know you can make them. Yes. But damn.

1:41:09Chad Johnson:You got to remember, he 9 '2", but he weigh 180 pounds. Hey, hey, less resistance. And them bigs don't know how to guard perimeter guys. So when he out there winding up, he know they feet slow. You know what I mean? He know they feet slow, and that's what he's trying to take advantage of. But I think Wimby's going to get better. We all know that. We don't have to worry about that part.

1:41:33Shannon Sharpe:22? I hate to see him. If he keeps progressing, the only thing that can slow Wimby down is injuries.

1:41:39Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:41:40Shannon Sharpe:is he can stay healthy. When he's 25, Joe, they got hell on their hands.

1:41:46Chad Johnson:Yes, yeah.

1:41:47Shannon Sharpe:They got hell on their hands now. He's only going to get better as long as he gets to train in the offseason and not have to rehab. There's a difference between training and rehabbing. In rehabbing, you're trying to get back to that point. In training, you're trying to exceed what your baseline is. Rehab, they're just trying to get you back to the baseline. Thanks. as long as he doesn't have to do to have any more setbacks and he can just train, boy, they got hell on their hand. Yeah.

1:42:15Chad Johnson:Yeah, and those guys continue to mature around him as well, Uncle Nocho. You know, obviously, we know Wimby going to be a beast, but, you know, you got to hope that those guys around him, the Harpers, the Castles, the Vasselles, those guys wish their potential, because they already know the pecking order, man. You hear it in their interviews. They always talk about how he's the best player in the world, So, you know, and he's been given something that he didn't ask for, which was height. Hell, you can't teach that.

1:42:42Shannon Sharpe:Well, you better be glad he got it. Because at that weight, if he wasn't that tall, he'd be a tall-ass something, but not an NBA player. The Hornets projecting the starting lineup. You got Kobe White at the point. You got Knibble at the two, Miller at the three, Reed at the four, and Diabate at the five.

1:43:00Chad Johnson:That's a nice five. Look, they're going to win some games in the East. Yeah. And when I say win some games, they could potentially be in the low seating, meaning like the 6, 7, 6, somewhere between 6 and 9. I can see that happening.

1:43:14Shannon Sharpe:I can see that happening. They going to be able to get up and down now. Yeah. They got a bunch of shooters. Kobe White can shoot it. Knippa can shoot it. Reed can shoot it. Miller can shoot it. The only guy really can shoot it, DeBate. But they got four guys that, hey, Grayson Alley can shoot the ball. We saw Royce O 'Neal can get hot in three.

1:43:30Chad Johnson:Yeah. Good. And that's what it is, bro. It's having, you know, you can have a decent starting five, but them guys you got coming off the bench, bro, if they too damn young, you know, they don't really understand the moment, so it's kind of hard to depend on them. It's only a few who really understand it. But to have good venture help coming off that bench. Yeah. And the Hornets got that with Grayson Allen, Royce O 'Neal. Who else they got over there? I know they got somebody else over there, but, you know, I like them two just to start, man. I like what the Hornets doing over there. I ain't mad at them for getting rid of, you know, they key guys.
