In short
The episode is a “Best of NBA Playoffs Part 2” recap focused on blowouts and role-player impact. It opens with a Knicks closeout vs the Hawks: New York wins 140-89, including an 83-36 halftime lead and a 47-point halftime margin, described as the largest in NBA playoff history. The hosts highlight extreme plus/minus (e.g., OG plus 42, Brunson plus 41, Bridges plus 40) and note the Hawks were outmatched early, with the game essentially decided in the first quarter.
Key claims
the Knicks “chose violence” defensively and offensively, and the Hawks “came with no mass.”
The second major segment shifts to the Lakers vs Rockets: the hosts discuss LeBron “turning back the clock” and the Lakers’ control from start to finish. They emphasize Lakers defense limiting Houston to 78 points, LeBron’s early paint pressure, and Marcus Smart’s value despite scoring late (hustle, turnovers avoided, blocks, and defense). Notable examples include Smart’s late threes, Houston’s missed early shots affecting confidence, and Lakers rebounding/second-chance prevention.

Hey, I'm going to turn your ass every which way but loose. You hear me? Guess what? I can deal with the consequences, homeboy. And you ain't gonna have no choice. All right. All right. Don't worry about it. I got some for you to play, boy. Hey, it's okay. You thought they stopped making them when you got one? You thought they stopped making them when you got one? I'll tell you what. Y 'all see what y 'all done turning Joe into? Y 'all see what y 'all came on? He just saying quiet, saying a few words. Nigel looking to pull the strap out Damn there Damn there I chose violence tonight This time coming Hey I tell you what Don't you got Pilates in the morning Pilates yoga I'm in midtown home boy I know exactly where it's at I know exactly where it's at Matter of fact I'll meet you at the door 12 o 'clock noon I'll be there All you gotta do is pull up I'll be there at 11 Hello Hello.
9:15Hello. I ain't playing no game. I ain't paying nothing. Yeah. I hope so. Yeah.
9:24Get it in blood, partner. See what y 'all started? Hey, that's how I get it because I'm all red. I blame y 'all for this. I blame y 'all for this, chat. This is all y 'all fault because y 'all kept wanting Joe. Y 'all talking about Joe, man, Joe this, Joe that, and now see what y 'all done turned Joe into. Hey, for the past four hours, I've been getting my ass chewed out by my Hawks. So you know what? If we ain't win the game, we finna win the damn fight. I'm choosing violence tonight. Yeah. So Ocho, however you want to do it, partner. Hey, listen. Not only did y 'all lose the game, you're going to lose the fight, too.
10:00You hear me? You're going to lose the fight, too. You see we had Big Big Robinson up in that Ford Nelson. about to put him in that headlock. Yeah, we're going to win something tonight. Hey, I don't know who that referee is. Hey, Joe, he needs to simmer down a little bit now. I know he's taking job really serious. I know he's trying to set the tone and show, listen, I'm not going to tolerate any of the bull crap, any of the extra stuff, you know, on the court. But, like, come on, man. We ain't come to watch you. We ain't come to watch you throw people out. Unnecessary. Especially that early in the game.
10:40He's seen how chippy the game was, Ocho. He knew. See, Reb know if they don't step in right away, it's going to get out of hand. All he had to do was give people warnings. You don't got to throw nobody. Warning. You see how we would get down? Warning ain't going to do nothing. Ocho, they're down 60. What the hell are you warning? Yeah, what the hell? What a warning. Now, I'm ready to fight. We need to get thrown out. Yeah. We can't win the game. I'm going to win something. I'm going to tell somebody to ask somebody. We finna win something. Yeah. I mean, I turned the game on. It was like 51 to 19.
11:18I'm like, what the hell is this? Hey, I'm watching the game. And I'm going to tell y 'all something, man. I had floor seats tonight. And I couldn't go because I had something to do with my kids. Man, I'm watching the game. And I'm like, after the first quarter, hell, I'm like, damn, we ain't come to play. We BSing. Man, we were stuck on 15. Them boys had like 51 to 15 or something like that. I said, damn. I'm thinking to myself, I'm like, I can't believe this. I see the crowd dead as I don't know what. I see people starting to leave. Man, you got all the celebrities in there. I'm like, oh, man.
12:01That one hurt, fellas. That one hurt. I ain't going to lie. That one hurt. I'm talking about the Knicks really just, they came with no mass tonight. Yeah. They chose violence. Yeah. I mean, look at all these plus, these minus 38, minus 43, minus 24, minus 29, minus 36, minus 44. That's crazy. I don't even know. I've never seen anything like it. So I don't really know. I mean, Joe, you could speak to like in a situation like this, I don't know if you've ever been down that bad. I'm sure there have been some games that you've probably been down 20, 25, maybe even 30 at the half, but down 50 at the damn half?
12:40What's being said in the locker room? Man, ain't shit you can't say. Look, at games like that, Coach don't even come in there and say nothing. Hell, what are you supposed to say? Hell, the Knicks look like the 96 Bulls. Damn Bridges and Adam Nobile look like Jordan and Pippen out there. I'm like, damn. Bridges ain't had no good game the whole series. This man couldn't miss. 10 of 12, 2 of 2 from 3, 2 of 2 from the free throw line. Cat had another triple-double. Cat had never had a layoff triple-double in his career and got two in six games. And you know what's crazy? As bad as they beat us in the first half, they came out in the second half with the same intensity, bro.
13:25They did. I'm talking about still wasn't missing, still shooting fast break threes. I'm like, damn. Well, y 'all couldn't get nothing going over there, Joe. Nothing at all. It was a bad night tonight, fella. It was a bad night. And you know what, Joe? The problem is, is that as well as you guys played the first three games, you guys looked really bad the last half of that game three, but four, but ooh, five and six? I don't know why honestly Ocho I don't know why Joe chose violence tonight I understand that his team didn't play particularly well but for the man to come out and say I'm not paying and that's the end of that he said yeah I owe Ocho 700 I'm not paying and that's the end of that okay let's continue to talk about the game I don't even know why y 'all keep bringing it up here my mind ain't gonna change shit hey y 'all Everybody in life has choices, and they got to deal with the consequences.
26:03Yeah, you're right, Ocho. Joe got to deal with the consequences. That's it. So now, he living in Atlanta, ain't got to look over his shoulder all the damn time. I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. You know, you think you good. Yeah, yeah. You think you good. Yeah, and I keep that fire on me. Yeah. That who? That fire. You ain't the only one. They made more than one. Well, hey, hey. With that switch, you getting 10. Off the rip.
26:44Yeah. That's fine. Hey, look, that's fine. Hey, as long as my statement is made. Okay. All right. Look, I hope you can get that look at. I hope you get it out. Oh, yeah. Oh, it's already out. Okay. Okay. I don't know. Ocho, I've never seen, I've never seen, I've never seen or heard Joe behave in this manner. I ain't never seen my damn Hawks play like they played tonight. This is why I'm choosing violence. If I owe you money, you got to get it back in blood, partner. It ain't just you, Ocho. It go for everybody, partner. but since I'm sitting here talking to you, I'm letting you know. I like that.
27:25Ain't nobody getting paid. Yeah. Hey, hey, you know what? We might have to give him a little pass tonight because he on that Brown. You hear me? Oh, okay. He on that Brown. So he's not responsible for what he's saying. Okay. Yeah, he's not in the right state of mind. Hey, I'm on that yak tonight. What you mean who ain't responsible? I mean, I ain't. What you think this is? Hey, hey, Joe, I'm going to tell you one thing. I'm going to tell you one more time. That brown gonna make you frown. Now, you keep playing me if you want to now. Don't you let me say he ain't paying you? I don't know what else to tell you.
27:57Okay. Okay. Hey, boy, your head gonna be a nail in the coffin. You keep playing with me like that. I'm trying to coax, you know, maybe like$250 here,$250 there, and another$200 at the end. But it doesn't seem like he willing to budge. It doesn't seem like he gonna pay you anything. It's okay. Hey, Unc, it's okay. These hands gonna budge across his head. Hey, hey, hey. That's fine. Boy ain't getting Nathaniel. Hey, when you see, hey, you come to the A and you see that red dot on you, partner, don't get scared, all right? Hey, I like red dots. I used to date an Indian. Yeah. I like red dots. I used to date an Indian.
28:32What you saying, boy? Okay, yeah, I'm going to put it right in the middle of your head, too. Huh? Yeah, right there in the middle of your head. Come to the locker, come to the locker, come to the locker. Put it down. Okay, okay. Put it down, boy. Okay. What you saying? Okay. You got the right one, boy. Yeah. Oh, so do you. So do you, partner. You got the right one on the right date. Yeah. I chose that. You better give me. I better have my money, boy. How you want it, Ocho? Yeah. How you want it? Hey, now he done pissed me off. Now I want it in dollar business. Damn. Man, I don't care how much you get pissed off.
29:05Huh? Boy, you ain't got no deal. You got to go to the bank, Joe. You got to go to the bank. And they got to count out$100 or$500 once? Who do? That's what Ocho say. How you want his money? Where they do that at? Didn't I just tell that man they ain't getting this money? Okay. Damn, bitch, how's I got to tell you? You won't bet none. You won't bet none. Damn. What you won't bet? I bet your A, I bet your A'd be on the evening news. Bet it. Yeah. Bet it. Support for the show comes from Public, the investing platform for those who take it seriously. 33:40oh you know what they're talking about say get your coat your brim and get on out of this gym get your coat your brim and get on out of this gym get your coat your hat and leave People. People. People. That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. You feeling good, huh? You know I'm on that. Hey, Joe, I'm on that pole tonight. We might go four hours. We might go four.
34:14You on that liquor, huh? I got you. You on that yak. Okay. Hey, before we even start, I got a question for you, right? Now, before reality set in, I know the Lakers played really well tonight. LeBron was impressive. He did what he needed to do. Yeah. Hey, Achi Moura. Did I say that right? Yeah, O 'Hachi. O 'Hachi. Hey, Achi was hitting them shots tonight. You hear me? Yeah. Hey, don't connect. He showed up. He came to the party. No, you're talking about LaRavia came in. LaRavia. I don't think he got in the game. He came in late. No, it was LaRavia came in, gave him some quality minutes. Yeah, yeah.
34:51Five rebounds. Seven points. Block shot. Yeah. It was the radio. Brother Reeves played well tonight, too. Yeah. You know, he got that rust off a little bit, you know, going into his second game. So, I'm going to let you have a night for the fun because y 'all won this series. It's over. But y 'all know you're no a dragon laying in front of you now, right? We're not to that castle. We're not trying to kiss that princess yet. Oh, you're not worried about that yet? That castle where the dragon is at and he's blocking the princess. Right, right. We're going to talk about that then. Right now, we're going to talk about them stinking rockets that failure to launch.
35:29Okay. Them duds. Let's talk about them duds. Okay, okay, okay. They're talking about rockets, they duds, they misfired. Yes, sir, yes, sir. Anybody know anything about fireworks? You know when you get a big old pack and half of them duds. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Hey. Joe, you look at the Lakers and they understood the assignment. They didn't want to play a game seven. because anything can happen. They got confidence. They're like, hey, we've already won in their building before. We can damn sure go in here and win again. Lakers adopted that same mindset. JJ said, look, guys, game three. We went there and we won.
36:03We can win again. All we got to do is take care of the basketball, keep those guys off the glass. They did a great job of that tonight. Joe, what was so impressive? What you found most interesting and why the Lakers won this game and in the fashion in which they did? Well, I thought the Lakers played great defense. Uncle Ocho, I mean, as you can see, the Rockets only scored 78 points. And when you cut them young guys' water off to where they're not efficient, they're not making shots, you see the difference, right? Yes. It's a huge difference. But the biggest key is probably the way LeBron started the game.
36:39You know, putting his stamp on the game early, you know, getting into the teeth of the defense, living in the paint, scoring at will. I'm like you. I don't give a damn that he went 10 for 25. I'm cool with that. Hey, bro. Yep. Hey, as long as you being aggressive, making plays, trying to score, then everybody else, you know, they can get it off the glass. So they'll catch up with you and they'll start to play off you. I just thought the Lakers were in full control tonight from start to finish. They really never looked like, you know, like they was ever going to lose. Any danger. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:13They was never in any danger. But that's indicative to playing a young Rockets team who, yeah, they got a little experience, but hell, if they ain't making shots, okay, Ocho, how else can they affect the game to keep themselves in it at home? And they couldn't do it tonight. And I think the thing is that because Reed Shepard wasn't able to hit some threes early, nobody was diving to the basket. I thought they did a great job. They's like, look, we're not coming to help. They's like, Aiton, you got to anchor down. And he did a great job of absorbing that contact because Shingun, when he bothers you, he said, nah, I ain't going nowhere, bro.
37:51I'm going, hey, I dropped anchor right here. I ain't moving. And he made him, he forced shots, made him go off over the top. I thought Marcus Smart was unbelievable tonight. He did a great job of taking care of the basketball. Remember, he had six turnovers last game, Joe. But think about it. It's his hustle plays. It's that he's blocking shots from back. Like, hey, and I don't know who it was. Was it Easton? I don't know if it was Easton. I don't know who it was that he met him at the summit. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it was. Yeah. He met him at the summit. Yeah. Yeah. He was sensational tonight. I thought he stepped up to play.
38:28I thought, Kanawha, I thought everybody played really well. They got a little loosey-goosey with the ball. I thought Alistair Reeves tried to pat the ball behind his back. It goes out of bounds. Bounds, yeah. And the next thing you know, Houston goes on a 6-0 run. Yeah, I agree. Those are the type of plays that when you play a better team, now you do this, that 6-0 run, okay, see, that's 16-0. Yeah. But we'll talk about that, Ocho. We'll talk about that next week. We ain't going to talk about it right now. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Hey, listen. Listen. I like what you said about Marcus Smart. And for guys who enjoy playing the game, who enjoy watching the game, man, listen, when you ain't making shots, how else can you put your stamp on the game?
39:08Because Marcus Smart probably didn't score until, what, the third or fourth quarter, Uncle Ocho. He had one point until those final two threes. Yeah. He had one point. Yeah, so he never hung his head. He kept playing hard. And here, you got to have him on the court because his energy and effort that he brings defensively, you know, keeping guys together on defense, I think, I mean, he's a hell of a piece, bro. You got to have guys who can really stay in the right mind frame, Uncle Ocho, when things ain't really going their way. And for young guys, that's hard, Uncle Ocho. It's very hard. Yeah, but when you got a veteran guy like Marcus Smart, who'd have been around the block here, he didn't give you 20 plus, you know, in this series.
39:47Yeah. And he didn't. And it's been games like tonight where it didn't look so good to him or for him until late in the game, you know, to where he was able to make a couple of shots. But for the most part, bro, he still played his role to the T. Yeah. Hey, Joe. And that's that's something to Joe. You mentioned the two before. Sometimes like when you get to this level, you got to understand everybody can score. But depending on where you're at, depending on what your role is, they might not need you to score. So you got to be of value somewhere else outside of just being a score like Marcus Smart was tonight.
40:19Okay? I'm not scoring, but there's some other valuable attributes that I bring to my game, you know, for the Lakers tonight. Hustling, playing crazy defense, you know. Hey, Unk, I don't know what the hell meeting at the summit is, but I know he did something, right? Yeah. He made it back to the rim. He tried to dunk it. We didn't got it. And he would have named, uh-oh, you got to go higher than that. Okay, okay. Hey, I'm at the penthouse too. Okay, okay, okay. So, unless your penthouse on top of mine, but we both at the penthouse. I like that. And guess what? This high as you can go. Yeah, yeah.
40:53I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. Joe, that's the thing. When you're a young player, you're not used to things not going your way. Right. Because for the majority of your life, things have gone your way. You were the best player in your area. You was an all-state player. You probably missed the basketball. You're the best player on your college team. So now, and so things have always gone your way, so you don't know how to respond when things don't go your way. Absolutely. It's kind of like life. Sports is a microcosm of life. When things are always going your way, it's easy.
41:28But when you have a little setback, when you have some stumbling blocks placed, obstacles placed in your way, Now, how do you overcome adversity? Absolutely. We saw DeMarcus Smart played a terrible game. And even though he didn't have but one point until probably like the last six minutes of the ball game, other things, other attributes that he contributed that he brought to the table, that is the difference in winning and losing. Absolutely. He's a piece that you, more times than not, he'll contribute to you winning as opposed to you losing games because he's going to do all the little things.
42:01and he understands that, you know what, I'm never going to be the best player on an NBA team. Right. With that being said, that doesn't mean I can't contribute. That doesn't mean I'm not valuable. There you go. And so once you understand, because a lot of times, Ochoa and I sport, we only equate value to do, if I don't catch no passes, I'm not valuable. If I don't score no touchdowns, I'm not valuable. Right. But know sometimes that being a decoy, Sometimes getting that block, instead of it being a 10-yard run, it's a 50-yard house call. You have to understand there are other things that are valuable.
42:37Sometimes people just place things, value on monetary things. That's fine, too. We all love monetary things. But sometimes there have to be something other than that that brings you value, that brings you happiness. And so I was very excited, considering how poorly he played the other night, to see him bounce back because he had played so well in this series. And when he had been healthy, he had played so well for the Lakers. So it was great to see him bounce back like that. And that's what veteran players that's been in these situations before, this is what they normally do. Absolutely right.
43:09And that's why you got to have glue guys like Marcus Smart, Uncle Ocho. You know, because the game isn't, his game isn't really the sexiest. But at the same time, he knows how to be effective, bro. He knows how to be effective. He plays his role to the T. He stars in his role. You feel what I'm saying? Yes. When you got veteran guys like that playing in tough games like this, I don't know what it is about playing at home. This is what I was telling you guys. Like, when you're on the road, bro, it seems like it's just you and your teammates against the world. Yeah. So, you know, it's likely that you can come out and have a pretty decent game versus being at home when you're comfortable, slept in your bed, you know, you got your family around, you let your guard down a little bit.
43:55You know what I mean? And to me, it seemed like that's what kind of happened in Houston because Jabari Smith didn't really play a hell of a game as far as scoring-wise. Him averaging about 16, 17 in this series. They needed all those young dudes to play well. You know, I like the demeanor that LeBron had to start the game. Just very serious and understanding and knowing that, man, I can't settle too much tonight. Oh, yeah. I got to put pressure on these boys. I think the thing is, Ocho and Joe, is that last game, these guys had out-of-body experiences shooting the three. Guys were pulling up with guys in their face shooting the three.
44:33I mean, Tari Eason, the way he was breaking, even his mom was talking about how he was shooting the ball bad on social media. Jabari Smith was letting it rip. Yeah. Now, all of a sudden, a couple of those shots, that's the difference. You see a couple of shots go in, you grow. All of a sudden, you clank a couple of them, you shrink. Hey, you shrink. Now you all of a sudden, you aim at each other. You're like, come on. And you're doing all this body layer. Yeah. Damn. Yeah. Yeah. All it takes is for a couple of them to miss. And now all of a sudden, you're not nearly as confident as you once were.
45:11But that happens to young players. As an event player, you understand you're going to have ebbs and flows of the game. I might drop one, and it might be a big play. I just know, hey, come back. They're going to bring you on a shallow cross. You're going to have an opportunity on a choice or an option route. Just catch that one. Just get the feel of that pigskin. Feel that leather. Then we right back in business. We right back in business. I thought the Lakers, this was the type of game that we wanted to see in game four. This was the type of game that we wanted to see in game five. We didn't see that.
45:42Hey, we saw LeBron get right downhill. Let's get right to it. All right, let's get to it. Yeah. Hey, what about your boy Rui? Your boy Rui came to play tonight, didn't he? Hey, he was feeling good. We talked about Rui getting streaky and how he can hit five or six. Hey, Joe, we talked about that the other night. I said, Joe, he's a guy, because I watched him in Memphis and I watched him in some of the series. He's a guy, he's their best catch and shoot guy from the three. Now, I think Kennard is an overall better shooter from the three than Rui. But as far as just catching the ball and letting it go, he's the best on the team.
46:15Yeah. Hey, hey, and he covered for us tonight, too. But when Rue is playing like this, you know, to where Bron can create and get him wide open shots and kind of get him going, you know, that kind of picks him up, gets his defense going. I just think, hey, now the Lakers got to, you know, they got to get some rest, Uncle Ocho, and see what they can throw at OKC. Well, they get Saturday off, they get Sunday off, they get Monday off. They don't play until Tuesday, Joe. Oh, yeah, they got a little time. They got a little time. They got a little time. Also, D.A. didn't have a big night scoring the basketball, but Joe, on the glass, he got everything that was upcoming.
46:56He did, bro. He did. He did. And that's what you have to have. They didn't get – remember last time, I think they doubled them up. Yeah. In offensive rebounds. Yeah. Tonight, the Lakers had 15. They had eight. Now, all of a sudden, those second-chance points that you was feasting on the other night? He didn't allow that. Guys got on the glass tonight. I thought Marcus Mark had seven rebounds. Rui had six rebounds. LeBron had seven rebounds. Right. You can live with that. Hey, LaRabia came in there in 16 minutes. He gave you five rebounds. He did. Hey, listen. For Houston, I like Torres Easton.
47:35But you need a KD bro in this series in order to be able to win. Because these young dudes weren't going to be able to take you to victory. Not throughout the series. Yeah, they can win you a game or two. Because Easton, you need him coming off that bench, Ocho, to give you a little five-power, a little spark plug that probably could have helped you get over the hump in a couple of these games. But without KD, I mean, we didn't really think these guys was going to run the table and win two in a row against the— I know I didn't. You know, I wouldn't have been too surprised. Well, actually, it would have been four in a row.
48:05Well, yeah, four in a row. Yeah, I really wouldn't have been too surprised had they, you know, kept it close and maybe even won this game tonight. But I wouldn't have picked him to beat the Lakers. Look, we thought that – my thing was, my only concern is that, Brian, if Brian come out being passive again, trying to get everybody else involved, because now you try to get everybody else involved, you're throwing yourself off real. Yeah. You know, sometimes on y 'all we talk, man, you helping everybody else, and now you can't help yourself. Now you find yourself in a predicament. Yeah. Hey, get it off the table.
48:36Yeah. I'm going to pile this on my plate. Some fall off, grab it. But I cannot run the risk of throwing myself off rhythm while all the while trying to get you in rhythm. Right. Yeah, I agree. I thought, look, everybody understood the assignment tonight. Look, Austin Reed is, look, he's defensively challenged. It is what it is, Joe. He's not going to get any better. He's not going to get any better. He's not. He's not. The guy just don't. I mean, you can try all you want to, but he just doesn't have the lateral movement. His feet heavy. His feet just heavy. Some guys can just, it's easy. You look at Marcus Smart, he can just slide and just slide and just slide and retreat.
49:19You got to hope he get in a little better shape, though, on the Ocho. You seen all them boys hunched over, grabbing their shorts? Them boys were dead dog tired. Yes. I'm like you. They understood the assignment knowing that, man, look, we got to get these young dudes up out of here. We got to go back home, baby, get us some rest the next couple days. And I felt like the Lakers, they did that from start to finish. Get them down. Now they're going to come down and start jacking up shots. They're not going to be patient. Because the one thing, as a young person, you're not patient. No. As a young person, I remember when I was a young person, guys, hey, I got my chicken from cracking eggs, not by letting them hatch.
50:02I wasn't waiting. Shea wasn't waiting on nothing. Hey, that was a bar. That was a bar. That was a goal. And so, Joe, you already know. You young. I'm going to try to get it. Hey, let me come down here to three. If I hit a three, that's going to get the crowd. I come down here again. But then what happens? You go airball. And you go airball. Yeah. I may probably look at you like, what was that? Yeah. What was that? I think people are like, oh, you try. I'm not trying to take no shot at KD. I know they're not a better team without KD. I think some of those guys on that team think they play better without KD.
50:38That's the issue. Hey, there is some of them guys that are a lot more aggressive without KD. I mean, when you look at it, Uncle Ocho, they ain't have nobody with more than three assists tonight, the Rockets. You know what I mean? That's not who they are, Joe. I know because it's such a young team. They're not really sacrificing. You feel what I'm saying? It's like, if I got it, I'm taking it. You feel me? It's like, my turn, your turn. Like, there's really no chemistry and continuity with those guys, maybe because KD is out. You know, Ben Fleek ain't playing. You don't have no veteran guys out there who can help lead this young team.
51:13And that's kind of what you've seen tonight. You know, it was guys just kind of one pass shot. You know, it wasn't really a good flow of chemistry between the guys tonight. What guy – look at these guys. I think Thompson is available for a contract extension. you. You don't make no max dollars being an assist guy. Tari Eason. Those guys. Jabari Smith. Joe, I'm trying to get money. KD gonna keep money out my pockets. You don't think those guys think of that? Oh yeah, I know. That's the only way real. You got Jabari Smith. You got Thompson. You got these young guys. They want Max contract because they saw guys in their draft class getting that.
51:58Hold on. Didn't Paulo Bancaro decide out a max deal. Didn't Chet Holcomb just sign a max deal? Jamari Smith said, what about me? I ain't got no money yet. Y 'all ain't got no money for me? Y 'all ain't got nothing for your boy? Y 'all ain't gonna slide nothing on the floor? So, KD's scoring 26-27. I ain't gonna really, they ain't gonna really give me no money if I'm scoring 12, Joe. But with KD out, I bumped that up to 17-18. feel what I'm talking about? It change everything. Man, hey, they ain't got no playmakers though, Unk and Ocho. Hey, Unk, you heard what Joe just said? They ain't got no playmakers, right?
52:39They don't. They don't have a point guard. Hold on, let's say KD not playing and you bump them numbers up to 17, 18, hell, it still look like fool's gold. That's all it is. It look like fool's gold. You know, it's not real gold. It's gold-plated. Because without KD, what did everybody look like, Joe? And I mean no disrespect. They don't look great consistently. They'll have nights. You know what I mean? Like, in this series, they've had games to where they've looked, you know, pretty good. You know, but like I said, man, that's when they make shots. When they make shots, they look damn good. Hey, Joe, when you get a MAAC contract, they pay you MAAC dollars because you what?
53:17You what? You elite at what you do. And you consistent. Damn near. You damn near consistent. Yeah. Yeah. Jabari Smith signed a five-year,$122 million rookie extension. This contract begins in 2026 season. Long-term court following his initial four-year,$35.8 million. He look at that like, man, you see what Chet got? Chet in my class. Yeah. You see, what did Paulo sign his max extension? It was about two-something, wasn't it? that's 118 million dollars more on the same year what did chet get two something chet got two something yeah yeah he got the same thing as paulo and and oh cho you know you you know the receivers in your draft clad don't you yes you know when they went to the pro bowl you like well hold on he don't went to the pro bowl i gotta get that too yeah paulo got bancaro done made the All-Star team.
54:17Chet Hongren done made the All-Star team. What you think Jabari Smith thinking? Okay, okay, I got you. Hey, I've been there, huh? I know exactly what you're saying. I know too! Hey, hey, that's why I tell you, look, when I was in Phoenix and I turned that 50 down, I seen Jason Richardson get 70, seen Gilbert Arenas them signing these big deals. I'm like, hold on. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Hold on. Hey, I got to get some of this here. You know, hey, look, I'm going balls to the wall. You hear me? Yeah. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Especially, Joe, if you and Ocho, you feel that you're better than the guys that's getting that money.
54:57I remember all the receivers that came out. I'm better than him. Okay, you got that initial money. Gotcha. Tight ends. I played with some of them. I was like, bro, I was at the East-West Shrine game with you. I was at the blue-gray game with you. Bro, you're not like that. At all. I'm not hating. I'm looking at him like, so now I'm thinking it's kind of like you in a relationship. She chose him over you. What is it about him? I got meat for days too. I figured out what it is. Okay, he ain't got no money. I ain't got no money. I'm 6 '2", 225. He's 6 '1", 215. I got the baby arm I don't know what he working with I'm saying so what is it I'm funny I tell jokes I dress I dress pretty good you know what I mean I got Ralph Lauren I got Tommy Hill I got Lee and Calvin Klein so what is it yeah okay them guys getting money yeah what is it what are they doing that I can't man please right you're absolutely right Hey, that's mainly, you know, I would say mainly in football, basketball.
56:17That's what these young dudes thinking, bro. They trying to contribute to where they can get a huge contract. You know, do they want to win? Yeah. But at the same time, hell, I want to be involved. Joe, them boys worry about that money on, Joe. But most of the time, you know, them boys get exposed when the time come to show up and you're the focal point and you can prove you worth whatever those Mac dollars off? Half of them don't show up to the party, Joe. But see, unlike us, Ocho, that five years, 122, that's guaranteed. He can drop down to four points a game. He going to get that money. All of it.
56:56Paulo Bancaro got that five, 245. He getting all of that. Yeah. It ain't no, well, he signed where he got 100 million. No, no, no, no, no. That five for 245, Paulo Bancaro is getting all of that. That's set in stone No matter what Check is in all of that No matter what No matter what Yeah Not unless they do something Agreed Now obviously Anytime you're dealing With that kind of money There are morality clauses In there Right But as long as you As long as you go play basketball And you don't run a foul You gonna get up all that And so guys And I'm looking at it Ocho I'm 22 So by the time I get up off this deal Guess what I'm 26 Then sign another They give me another deal I'll be 30, and I'll be getting another deal.
57:43We're going to get another one. Ooh. So think about it. By the time these guys 30, they could be done signed$600 million in contracts. Oh, yeah. At 30. It's going to be something that's going to have that, yeah. Yeah, Ant-Man. Ant-Man going to come back and make all NBA. Ant-Man can be the first guy to make$80 million a year. Ooh. 80. 80 a year. It's probably going to be more than that considering Adidas is endorsements and all that. Yeah, that's just on the court. We ain't talking about out the court. Yeah. So when you look at it like that, guys sometimes
58:27everybody says sacrifice, sacrifice, but I don't want to be the one to have to sacrifice. Right. Let him sacrifice. I need my numbers. It's okay. You look, bro, you already got your money. You already got yours. You good. Yeah. You said, let me get my money. Then I'll think about sacrificing. I'll think about sacrificing once I get my bread. Yeah. But they're a young team. Do I think they're a better team without KD? No. No, no. But they play better because they're not standing around watching what KD does. They kind of reverted back to what they were. But if you think about it, they stayed close to home.
59:06They didn't send help to double-team Shingun. So now everybody stayed home. Now what do you do? It's like, well, damn. No, son, you got to go sit on screen. You got to go dive to the basket or something. You just can't stand there. Yeah, yeah. He can't throw the ball through, Rui. He can't throw the ball through Austin or Smart or LeBron. You got to give him something. Yeah. Hey, you got to get a Lakers credit, though, because typically Singoon always has more than one assist, fellas. You know, they made him, they just, hey, they told Aiden, guard him straight up. We're going to guard him straight up.
59:41Because one thing you can't do is let him come out here and have like no triple-double numbers. Yeah, you can live with 17 and 11. Right. All day long. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't let him have no 10, 11 assists. And hitting these guys, cutting back dough and all that, you can't let all that go on. I thought the Lakers did a great job. But yeah, Houston got some work to do. They got some work to do. They do. They got some work to do. They need some guys to be available. Look at the game that the Nuggets won. Look at Jokic's assist total when they win. Yeah. Look at his assist total when they don't.
1:00:16Yeah. Same thing with Shingun. Now, go ahead and score. If you can score 40, bless your heart. Yeah. But what we're not going to do is send a double, and then here you are getting guys wide open looking at threes. And they're hitting. Nah, we're not going to do that. We're not going to do that. Right. But you know what? Lakers moving on. I know what y 'all are talking about. Well, they ain't going no further. I don't know how far they're going to go. But I know they're going to play on Tuesday night. Yeah. Yeah. One team playing on Tuesday night. If your team, not the Lakers, and they were playing against the Lakers in the first round, your season is officially over.
1:00:53That's it. Yeah. I like it. Turn out the lights. party's over they say that all good things must end they're going to be in for a good one boy oh it's going to be a great game it's going to be great yeah he got to be LeBron 28 points 8 assists 7 rebounds next up the defending champs with OKC Thunder on Tuesday JJ on LeBron to me he's had the greatest career of any NBA player Rick says the locker room making the goat bad noise for LeBron James after the game. He said, hey, we already know.
1:01:38Steve Kerr says Draymond Green is a better defender than both Bulls teammates Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. The modern game demands so much more than it did in the 90s. You have to be able to guard all five positions because there's so much pace and energy in cross matches. You race back on defense. You got to guard the guy in front of you. And then there's pick-on game. I guess the opposing team is going to bring the weakest defender into the pick-and-roll to gain an advantage. Draymond can guard any action in any position, any player. Joe, what's Steve Curry saying? That he's a better defender than Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman.
1:02:20I don't know about that. I think Draymond is a hell of a defender but considering the fact that Scottie Pippen 6 '7", 6 '8", Dennis Rodman 6 '9", those guys were crazy athletic and they were lengthy, you know, had long arms and they could defend their ass off. Draymond can defend his ass off too but to say that he's just head and shoulders better than them guys, I know Steve Kerr played with Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen but that's hard for me to believe, bro. I seen, I done seen Pip sit in that chair, especially in, what was that, 91 when they was playing against the Lakers. Yeah. He guarded Magic full court.
1:03:00Like, I mean, bruh. Like, I know Steve Kerr played with those guys, so for him to say that. Mean a lot. Yeah, but I can't just say Draymond is just head and shoulders better than Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, Ocho. I can't go there. Hey, listen, that's out of my pay grade to really have an opinion on something like that. I mean, you would know better than I do. When you think of Pippen, you always think of him being, I don't want to say second fiddle, but the crutch, you know, the crutch to Jordan during that time, they were together. You know, obviously, you know what he's done defensively.
1:03:40But the game is so much different now, though. It is. It's very different. Would Pippen and Rodman still be able to hang with these much more athletic and much more elusive guys today in today's game? Yeah, I think so. Man, they were... If you go look at them Bulls, especially in the 90s, Ocho, look how ripped and cut up them dudes was, bro. Like, them dudes were... They lived in the weight room. Like, I'm talking about from Jordan having a breakfast club to what guys worked out before practice. Like, everybody was cut up. You don't really see that nowadays, bro. You see guys playing, but they don't really have that muscle mass them cuts like them dudes had in the 90s.
1:04:20Them dudes was in, they were in thoroughbred shape. You know what I mean? And I'm talking about Scottie Pippen can guard, he could guard the point guard, the twos, the threes, the fours. It's just back then, guys, you know, smaller guys really wasn't guarding fives because the fives back then were really, really fives. From David Robinsons to Patrick Ewens to the Rick Smiths. Like you had real, real bigs back then. We really got like two, maybe three bigs in this era. There ain't really no bigs.
1:04:58So why is it when Steve Kerr says that, but if a modern player was to say that it's tougher now than it was back then, everybody's talking about they're crazy.
1:05:12How many times the guys have said now, it's so hard, the pace of the game. to play 82 games like those guys did back then. Ain't nobody walking the ball up. Ain't no 73, 75 ball games. Nah. Nah. And it's just too many weapons on the floor nowadays. Your fours and fives can shoot the shit out the ball now. They can shoot the three. You know, the floor is a lot of space, which is why it's so hard to really guard a lot of these perimeter guys because your help is primarily not in the paint anymore. They're all spaced out. The game is a lot more wide open than it's ever been.
1:05:56It's just, I don't know why, but every era holds their era so close. We don't want to give it up, Ocho. We don't want to give it up, Joe. Right, right. there are great guys but there are more of these guys that can shoot the ball there are guys that can shoot there's just more of them now there are guys that can handle the ball back then there's just more of them now and that's okay
1:06:27when people ask me what's the biggest difference between when you played tight end now and when the guys playing tight end today I say there's just more of them there were really only a handful of guys that could do what I do back then. Now you got Kelsey and you had Gronk and you had McBride and you got Laporta and you got Hawkinson and you got where there was two or three, you got ten. Yeah. Yeah. You got ten where you had maybe one or two guys, two guards that could shoot the ball like Reggie Miller. Yeah. How many guys can let it fly now? A flip-flop. There wasn't no fours that could shoot the ball like Kevin Durant.
1:07:10No, sir. What we doing? What we talking? Come on now. There wasn't no fives that could shoot the ball like Chet Hongren, that could shoot the ball like Jokic. What are we doing? Come on. That's not to take anything away from those guys. David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Rick Smith. Those guys were great. Yeah. That's not to diminish them. They not shooting the ball like Jokic. No, no. They're not shooting the ball like Chet. They're not. They're not shooting the ball like Joel Embiid. It's okay to say it. That doesn't diminish them. It's called evolution. Yep, it's evolved. Yes. Why you think the guys, look at the guys' shooting percentage.
1:07:50Go back and look at the guys in the 40s. Look at their percentages in the 50s. Look at them in the 60s. Look at them in the 70s. And look at it. It gets better and better and better and better. You're right. The guys got better. It's okay.
1:08:11It used to be an anomaly. Somebody threw 100 miles an hour in baseball, you're like, oh, my God. They got 25 guys to 100. Yeah. Now they ain't even looking at you if you don't throw a damn 100.
1:08:25You had maybe two guys. Not everybody throwing gas. Everybody throwing 100, 103. cut fastball, two seams, slide or split. I think the training is a lot different nowadays, too. For sure. You know, when you think about it, even when I came into the NBA, you didn't have a trainer. We just hooped. That's it. We meet up. Okay, we hooping at 2 o 'clock. That was it. That's how you got better. Yeah, you may have got some spots shooting up afterwards, but we wasn't doing no cone drills. We wasn't doing none of that. Nowadays, see, they get these guys when they're younger, and you may be 6 '8", 6 '9", 6 '10 in high school, but we doing guard work.
1:09:13You working on your jump shot. So that's how the game is able to evolve. And then by the time you get to college, you're a totally different player. Guys don't play until they back to the basket no more. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's only a couple dudes who have it in their repertoire. You know what I mean? But a lot of these bigs, they can't play like that. I mean, hell, you look at Aiden. And Uncle Ocho, he ain't really got no back-to-the-basket moves. He a face-up big. He a face-up big, yes. Yeah, he a face-up big. And he ain't drop-stepping. He ain't got no, hey, them guys used to turn their face.
1:09:46Yeah. He ain't got none of that. Nah, nah. But you look at Jokic. Ain't no big passer like Jokic out of the double team. No, sir. Nah. Ain't nobody passer like Joel Embiid can pass the ball. Yeah. Ain't nobody got the range. Ain't no big had the range of Joel Embiid. what guy was seven foot can handle the ball like Kevin Durant? What guy was that tall can handle the ball like Wimby? It ain't one. It ain't one. The only guy that was, there were only like a handful of guys that was six, like Penny Hardaway and Magic. They're a bunch of guys now. And they were past first point guards. Yes! Like Penny was a past first point, but he could score.
1:10:27You know what I mean? Like now, now you got to be able to damn score that ball and, you know, and pass at the same time, but your point guard is pretty much, you know. It ain't no point guard no more. Because if we look at point guards now, they're just two guards masquerading the other point. There you go. There you go. It ain't no more Gary Payton. It ain't no more Jason Kidds, Isaiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, John Stockton. It ain't no more of them guys. These guys are masquerading. Yeah. They're really twos. Yeah, you right. Allen Iverson was a two masquerading at the point. James Harden is a two masquerading as a point.
1:11:03Steph Curry, all these guys are twos masquerading as points. Yeah, yeah. I think AI was more of a two guard than any of them. Because, I mean, I ain't saying he couldn't pass. He could pass, but he was just so prolific at scoring, bro. It was unreal. It was unreal. I don't know how that little joker did what he did. At his height, at his body. Man, Chuck might have weighed 160. And think about it. Look how great he was in football. I mean, damn. Yeah. You know, it's... But that's the mentality that he had on the basketball court. There you go. There you go. That's the mentality that he had. Yeah.
1:11:50So, yeah, look, I think the thing is, is that, obviously, everybody going to praise their own player. Everybody says, they get a player that says, he's the best player that I've ever seen. I've never seen anybody do that. And I get it. And I think Draymond's a phenomenal player. Yes. Do I think he's the defender of Akeem? I don't. Akeem was a bad boy, boy. And you're right. Scottie Pippen, you know, could really, I mean, Scottie could sit in the chair. I mean, he wouldn't guard no fives, because back then the fives were true fives. That's what I was saying. He wouldn't guard no Elijah Wan. I mean, he might take it for a possession.
1:12:26messing around and get on the pick or something. Yeah. Get switched up on him. But dealing with David Robinson or Patrick Ewing, Akeem. Yeah. Nah. Them was true back-to-the-basket bigs. They were true bigs. Yeah. Hey, they were not finna bail you out by taking a 20-footer. Yeah, no. They were gonna walk your ass down to the basket, drop step, and you're gonna foul them or they're gonna dunk on your ass. Put them elbows up in your neck and your chest. Yes. that's what it was about
