In short

“Best of NFL News Part 1” discussion focused on Cowboys/Packers trade talk and Browns/Cards preseason updates, plus a long debate about NFL play-calling speed and quarterback readiness.

Key claims

Jerry Jones compared the Micah Parsons trade to the Herschel Walker 1989 trade, arguing the Walker deal forced Dallas to be more aggressive and take more risk; hosts dispute whether the Micah trade is comparable, noting Walker was the Cowboys’ best player and the Walker trade netted three firsts, three seconds, a third, and a sixth. Another claim: Shedeur Sanders may be getting fewer plays because he’s slower to get plays in and must get the offense lined up faster; practice tempo and coordinator/player coordination can fix it.

Notable examples

Mahomes quickly signals for the next play after tackles to avoid clock issues; New England practice periods required consecutive perfect plays; Jeremiah Love (Cardinals) is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is unlikely to play preseason.

2:52Shannon Sharpe:After Cowboys traded Michael Parsons to the Packers last year, Jerry Jones compared the move to Hershel Walker trade in 1989. Today, Jerry did it again. You could say those picks got us key players, but the main thing is that Hershel Walker trade did. It caused me to be more aggressive and caused us, if you will, take more risk because we had more picks.

3:16Shannon Sharpe:Jerry Jerry ain't starting y 'all man he was Ojo he was he was Mike Truff sacrificed one of the best defensive players in 2026 for a first round pick in the 2027 second first round pick and a defensive tackle Kenny Clark for Walker he had 1 ,000 yard performance in three NFL seasons the Cowboys the words with three first round picks, three second round picks, a third round pick, and a sixth round pick. How is that comparable? Now, if that was Barry Sanders, okay, sure. Hershel Walker was not one of the best offensive players. He was the best player Dallas had, but he was not one of the best players in the league.

4:04Shannon Sharpe:Because you do realize, like, Jerry was in the league at that time, right? Joe Montana was in the league. Bruce Smith was in the league Reggie White was in the league All those guys were in the league I mean at the running back position

4:19Joe Johnson:Wasn't Herschel Walker that boy?

4:21Shannon Sharpe:Christian Okoye was that boy Baron Sanders was that boy Thurman Thomas was that boy He had 1 ,000 yard season Ocho Like I said he was the best He was the only thing the Cowboys could trade Do you realize what the Cowboys got for Herschel? Three first round picks three second round picks, a third round pick, and a sixth round pick.

4:45Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, who would get that right now in today's game? Those exact numbers. Prior to the injury, probably Mahomes. He's the only one, too. Three first round picks?

5:06Wow.

5:09Shannon Sharpe:Game different. three man look here like I said he was the best player Dallas had he was the only thing that Dallas could trade right that matter Micah for me I think Micah was a top five defensive player yeah

5:36so

5:37Shannon Sharpe:I don't think it's the same Jerry's going to make it seem. Maybe Jerry, that's wishful thinking. And all it has to do is Jerry said, if I win a Super Bowl, that's all that matters. That's it. That's all that matters. And he just won him another Super Bowl before he go on. He does. That's it. That's all he wants. And you know, it seems like the farther, the more time passed between you and the one that you just won, the one that you won, you're like, damn. It's going to happen? Am I going to win another Super Bowl? Or, because think about it. Jerry brought the team in 89. By 95, they had three.

6:22Shannon Sharpe:Right. Damn. By 95, they had three. So, you know what happens when you have that kind of success so early, Ocho and Joe. You say, this is a bad, this is, hey, like Ha Ha Davis said, this is about to be a breeze. Breeze.

6:41Joe Johnson:Oh, no. Oh, no. Well, listen, it was a breeze when you had that kind of college you had.

6:46Shannon Sharpe:And you had that kind of coach that could drive him.

6:50Joe Johnson:That too, until the rest of the league caught up.

6:51Shannon Sharpe:If you Kansas City, and you came to Kansas City from 2019 to 2024, all you know is going to the Super Bowl. That's it. You're like, man, this thing. Man, people talk about going to the Super Bowl hard. Man, we go there every year. is normal. It ain't normal. There's nothing about getting to the championship in your sport and doing it consistently. There's nothing normal about that. You might think it's normal. I'm saying, but... It ain't. I'm saying, but when you're making it consecutively like that, you feel like that's normal. You do. You know, I mean, every year you feel like you're going to get back to that point.

7:33Shannon Sharpe:And hell, then it may become a point here you don't see that for the rest of your damn career. That's a possibility. You know what I mean? that's how look at Buffalo Joe your point is Buffalo Bills 90 91 92 93 yeah and never got back damn nope

7:52Joe Johnson:both times and every loss was a kick no the first one was a missed

7:57Shannon Sharpe:kick field goal they lost to the Giants that was the closest after that they got the door blowed off them they got the last one was close in Atlanta when they lost to Buffalo. When they lost to Buffalo in 92, out there at the Rose Bowl, that was the first Super Bowl that I actually went to. Man, they got the break, got the break draw beat off them. They did. That was with, remember with Leon Lett, they was about to put a 60-piece on them. When Leon Lett put the ball down and Steve Tasker knocked it out of his hand and it rolled out of the end zone.

8:34Joe Johnson:Yeah. Don Bebe. Don Bebe, right? No. Bebe, bebe, bebe, bebe, bebe. Oh, okay, okay.

8:40Shannon Sharpe:I remember that y 'all remember when Don Bebe took off you know Don Bebe ran 4-3

8:48Joe Johnson:yeah yeah remember when Don Bebe used to wear that extra that was Tasker that was Tasker

8:56Shannon Sharpe:no that was Steve Tasker that was Mark Kelso Steve Tasker was the special teams maven you talking about the one that had that big he had that

9:05Joe Johnson:and he had that extra he had the concussions cap

9:08Shannon Sharpe:Way back when. That was Mark Kelso. I played against him, Ocho. Okay. Yeah.

9:17Joe Johnson:Okay, okay, okay.

9:19Shannon Sharpe:And that's throwback. Yeah. But look, Jerry made the trade. And see, this is what caused attention. Jerry said he made the trade. What did Jimmy say? Jimmy said he made the trade.

9:38Shannon Sharpe:You see how it's easy? You see?

9:41Joe Johnson:Yeah.

9:42Shannon Sharpe:Everybody wants credit.

9:49Shannon Sharpe:Look, it worked out for the Cowboys, but it doesn't matter how many draft picks you got. Jimmy know who to draft. That was the problem. It ain't the draft picks. Everybody, for the most part, unless you traded away, guess what? Everybody got a first-round pick. who do you draft because you might take a guy and then a guy that goes in the second round could have been your first round pick and boom look what you got

10:17Joe Johnson:thanks and most of the time your first round your first round I don't know what percentage Uncle Joe and this goes for basketball too what percentage of your first round is most of the time they don't pan out either

10:30Shannon Sharpe:damn first round it's a high percentage on that Yeah, because you got to realize, Joe, when you're a first-round pick within your first three years, you're supposed to – look, the high you go up, you're supposed to be transformational. So now your first three years, you need to be a pro bowl. You need to be an all-pro. You need to be that level of a player. Even if your team is bad, you got to be the one exception

10:55Joe Johnson:that makes my team that much better. At least give me a chance.

Read the full transcript

10:59Shannon Sharpe:That is absolutely correct. And it doesn't always work out like that. So, with that being said, but the Micah, Jerry had it out for Micah. Once, you know, Jerry felt that he reneged, it was over. They weren't going to see eye to eye on that, Joe. And Jerry wasn't them old handshake guys. You shake Jerry's hand on something, you better come through. You better come through with it. Hey, Jerry tried to swindle that young man. Even swap ain't no swindle. You know you got to go through that mirror. Jared said, even swap ain't no swindle. Michael said, I was shaking your hand, thanking you for having, you know, for meeting me, you know, for having a conversation with me.

11:45Shannon Sharpe:Jared said, nah, you shaking my hand, we had a deal done. That's what Jared was saying. Hell no, it don't work like that, fellas. It does not work like that. You know, an owner, and especially with the games that they play

12:00Joe Johnson:and know how to play, especially contractually, it's a good thing it's a great thing that players have agents are you need representation because boy if you really saw how owners feel about you if you was ever in those negotiating rooms and they lowball you every time but you never know but your agent know i wish players would do that do it one time especially the elite players elite players go back to what they really say about you behind closed doors.

12:29Shannon Sharpe:That's why you have an agent because I don't want to hear that. Right. I don't want to know. Just go ahead and give me my money and let me think that you think that much of me.

12:46Joe Johnson:It's a reason they have everybody waiting on this joke. What's that? It's a reason. Only players... What is going on right now in Tampa Bay, This is one of the first times, few times I've seen a quarterback actually publicly display his… His frustration with a contract? Yes, first time. I ain't seen this in a long time. Because they normally get their money. Long time. Always. Always. Because the one person you want to have and you don't want to disgruntle is your quarterback. That's the one person. Receivers or equal weight.

13:20Shannon Sharpe:You ain't got nothing to do. Where you going?

13:25Shannon Sharpe:Pig said that's alright I'm having another 1500 yard season having another 85-90 catches He gonna get guopped down by the Cowboys Nah, not the Cowboys It's over for you, Joe Y 'all some haters It ain't over for me, boy It's just getting started here What do you mean? Yeah You happy now? You be sad later Nah, I don't know I don't know I know who gonna be saying But I ain't gonna say no name I ain't gonna call nobody Damn, Ojo

13:58Joe Johnson:Who, who? Don't take your time Damn, Ojo ain't gonna say Me talking about you

14:03Shannon Sharpe:You saw my team On full display today

14:07Joe Johnson:Hey, boy I know you ain't for the youth Preseason I know your quarterback Got sacked for the first drive Facts Your quarterback Gonna get sacked too

14:19Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey Now what y 'all gonna do is tomorrow. Before we get on here, y 'all gonna watch some real football. Y 'all gonna see some boys out there really clowning tomorrow, okay? Woo! There he go. There he go. There he go. Acting like he don't know what's going on. Boy, the Bengals played yesterday, boy. Boy, that's old news, partner. Oh, the Dolphins played. Man, there's nobody talking about the guppies. Man, you know damn well they ain't got no football team. Guppy ain't nothing but feed a fish. People feed guppies to bigger fish. Man, stop that, Ocho.

14:52Joe Johnson:We are in a rebuilding stage. Take your shots now. Take all your shots you want to now. We'll be back.

14:57Shannon Sharpe:Hey, y 'all trying to drive Buddy from Ohio State. Jeremiah Smith? Oh. Yeah, yeah. He from there. Ain't he from Miami?

15:09Joe Johnson:Yeah, he went to Chaminade, yeah. He right, right, right, right, yeah. That's hard, though, huh? Because he would have to go number... They definitely taking a quarterback. Either Dante Moore or Arch Manning.

15:23Shannon Sharpe:Oh, if Miami get the first pick, they probably take it, what do you call him? Arch Manning. How?

15:32Joe Johnson:Hold on.

15:33Shannon Sharpe:Even if Malik Willis playing his butt off?

15:38Joe Johnson:Nah, that don't make no sense. I ain't going. I ain't going. Nah. They only gave me three. Your deal, Ojo. Jeremiah Smith.

15:50Shannon Sharpe:You don't you don't pay you know no no no no so you say you'll take Jeremiah Smith over Archimedes Okay, yes I Wonder what that thing check what you think check find out Well, first of all y 'all y 'all might get the first right y 'all might get the first because y 'all go the guppy's gonna be that bad

16:14Shannon Sharpe:It's gonna be a long I'll do that.

16:18Joe Johnson:Y 'all need to learn to have faith.

16:19Shannon Sharpe:You know y 'all stay with the number one pick. That's just crazy. Y 'all. Nah, Cleveland. Oh, Cleveland notorious.

16:31Joe Johnson:Cleveland stay with the number one pick.

16:33Shannon Sharpe:Hell, in basketball too, hell. For sure. Wiggins, Bennett, Kyrie, LeBron. Who else they had? Hey, don't sleep on what you calling me, the San Antonio. What about them? They got the first pick, too. David Robinson, Kim Duncan, Wimby. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm right. But Cleveland, Cleveland, stay with that number one pick. Ooh. Oh, Brad Doherty. Oh, for Cleveland? Yeah. He went one, yeah. Yeah, he went number one. you know you know you go way back to the 60s hell I wasn't even thought of in 60s and 70s I can't I can't keep up sometimes didn't catch the latest Roland Martin unfiltered podcast here's what you missed and the argument is do you want to win if you don't win you have no power it's real those are the very people who I always say vote against their own economic interests and they complain about the very thing they were seeing It's raw.

18:22I'm Mungish Hatikula, and I'm back with a new season of the podcast Skyline Drive. This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood boys, blue zones, and brain replacement to try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever for all of us. I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you, and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain, as opposed to his brain. Here are some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost a four to five year acceleration. And get myself into a world of trouble.

19:07I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know. Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Well, it's that time again. Backpacks, first day of school outfits, and the low-key anxiety of, am I even doing this right? Good Mom's Bad Choices is diving into the back-to-school season the way only we know how. Unfiltered, funny, and full of the moments other shows won't touch, from surviving morning drop-offs to the guilt of missing the first bake sale. Irie told me that next season she wants to join a club team that's by your house.

19:48So I was like, so you want me to pick you up from school? I'll take her by my house. But then I have to take her there, and then I have to drive back? And then some days I'm here and I have to go pick you up at school and then bring you. I was just like, hell no. This is a space where moms treat their highlight reel for the real real. Whether you're a new mom, a veteran mom, or just trying to make it to pick up on time. This season of Good Moms, Bad Choices is for you. 20:22That call was really pivotal for me. Hey, it's Emily Tisch-Sussman. And this season on She Pivots, the podcast where women share bold career moves and personal turning points that changed everything. I sit down with culture shifting women who share their pivots like Paralympian Allie Truitt. I was like, I'm a month out from a shark attack. There's no way in 11 months I'm making the Paralympics. Advocate Elizabeth Smart. I still feel that drive that I can still make a difference. So I'm going to keep going. Celebrity chef Carla Hall. Was that scary to walk away from such a stable career after just two years?

20:55No, I was more afraid of being unhappy than I was broke in a dead end job that I didn't enjoy. And feminist legend Gloria Steinem. All of us were trying to express women's real lives. We need a meeting place of our own. And if I can contribute to that, I'd like to maintain that and leave this house for that purpose. Listen to She Pivots on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On Big Lives, we take a single cultural icon. People like Jane Fonda, George Michael, Richard Pryor. And we pull apart the story behind the image. And we do this by digging through the BBC's vast archive.

21:37We're talking iconic moments in broadcast history.

21:40Joe Johnson:I'm not just a boxer. I'm educated. I can talk all week on millions of subjects. And forgotten interviews that change how we see these giants of our culture. Well, if changing the system from the ground up is revolutionary, then I'm revolutionary. We're here for the messy, the brilliant, the human version of our heroes. I mean, when I go on stage, I like to dress as slutty as possible because it makes me dance better for some reason. I'm Emmanuel Jochi. I'm Kai Wright. And this is Big Lives. Listen to Big Lives on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.

22:21Shannon Sharpe:Steve Smith Sr. says Shadour Sanders has been getting less plays than Deshaun as he's slower to get the plays going. Smitty says, I've heard that sometimes Shadour not running the same amount of plays because he gets to play in faster. He has to get the guys lined up. He's a little bit slower on that. Ocho, I'm going to send it to you first. What you thinking? does that make sense?

22:47Joe Johnson:I mean, listen, when it comes to Smitty, I mean, his credibility, you know, and with the people that he does know inside organizations, not just the Panthers in general. So there's probably some truth to it in general, but that's something that's fixable. That's something that can be corrected. Obviously, that's the point of having practice, you know, getting the plays in, being able to call them faster, being able to make sure everybody's set up right before you go through your cadence, before you go through reading, reading your progression of your defense, you know, making your points and whatever you need to do as a quarterback, once you get to the line of scrimmage, all it is is telling the quarterback, listen, we need to speed up a little bit.

23:24Joe Johnson:Obviously, the 24 o 'clock, they have the 24 o 'clock running in practice to kind of gauge where you are when plays are coming in. Obviously, and it's also on the offensive coordinator to be able to get the plays in fast enough. Yeah, all of that collectively, it's intertwined between coach and player. and not just Shadour. Joe?

23:46Shannon Sharpe:And maybe that's a development stage for young fellas Shadour. You know, maybe it's just something he has to kind of experience and go through. I think he'll get better, you know, as the season goes along or as his reps increase, Uncle Ocho. You know what I mean? You don't know the headspace this young man is in considering the fact that he's coming out and competing day in and day out against Deshaun to try and see who's going to end up being a starting quarterback, but I don't see no big deal in it. But I'm like you, Ocho. I take what Steve Smith says, you know, it's respectable. Yeah, it's tough.

24:26Shannon Sharpe:He's still a young quarterback trying to figure this thing out, trying to be perfect. And the thing is, it's like most quarterbacks, they feel they can go in there and play the game and be free. He knows he can't make mistakes. It's hard playing like that. It's hard. It's hard when you're under man and you know if you make a mistake, Ocho, that might be the difference in Joe. That might be the difference in you. Hell, you might not see the field again. Thanks. Yeah. Thanks.

25:02Shannon Sharpe:But that's a tough position to be in. You definitely got to get the plays in because that clock starts. And if they're slow getting the ball in, And he was like, if you notice, like Mahomes, as soon as that play, as soon as somebody get tackled, he over there doing this right here. Come on, give it to me. Now, damn.

25:22Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, he wanted to play. The play's still going on. He like this. Yes. Give me the next one. Give it to me. Yes. Mahomes don't. Because it gives him time. He gives him time to see everything in front of him, and he's not rushing. He's not rushing. So anytime a quarterback can get that offensive line up early, and you got 15 seconds on the clock, that gives you plenty of time to assess what you need to, not only offensively making sure everybody's in the right place, but also defensively.

25:51Shannon Sharpe:Any audibles that I might need to make, any adjustments that I need to make, I can make those in a timely manner because the last thing I want to be doing, I'm getting to the line of scrimmage with 10. And now by the time I get set up, I send the guy in motion. I might want to make an adjustment. I can't make a damn adjustment because you didn't get to play in until 15 seconds. By the time I got it and called it and we broke the huddle, it's 9, 10 seconds. By the time we got to the line, it's 7, 6, 6, 7 seconds. And now you want me to go through blue 17, blue 17. Going to motion, timeout. What happened?

26:26Shannon Sharpe:Your slow ass took too long to get the damn play, and that's what happened. Hey, hustle up here, hustle to the line. Hustle to the line?

26:38Shannon Sharpe:but because of the offensive coordinator basically you don't really get a chance to enjoy the game won't you you call a play you might look up and see what they're in you got to be in your call sheet to see what it is hey and somebody feed you what what down is it second and five second and five second and five now you're going to the second and five call sheet okay yeah

27:01Shannon Sharpe:run a red right red right Z short two jet flaker drive red right two jet Z short two jet flaker drive ready break what down is it it's close is it a first damn it

27:25Shannon Sharpe:what do you mean you think it's a fumble is that a fumble should we challenge it they got a hundred they got a hundred things going on so it's not easy quarterback just think they just call the play when they try to get everything situated they try to hey what's the hey can we get a measurement no man come on we get a measurement that's close that's close That's a first down. But I'm just trying to get him to stop the clock. I don't have no damn first down. That ball a damn foot short.

27:58Joe Johnson:My favorite story on the joke is when I was in New England, and another reason I got a better understanding on why they win so much, why they're so consistent year in and year out, is when it comes to practice, everything was perfect. Everything was perfect. And you had to go consecutive plays without messing up or you'd be starting over. Not practice in general, but that specific period. You know, period. 10, 10, yep. 10, 12 plays. Yeah. But 10, 12, they got to be perfect. Well, I remember one time, I'm not going to tell the whole story, but I'm just going to tell a little bit of it. And I think I told it before, but Bill O 'Brien, his mic wasn't working to call him to get the playoff, just like we saw right now.

28:43and Tom

28:45Joe Johnson:and Tom I can't hear give me the play again and Bill said to play I mean not Bill Bill O 'Brien said to play again and Tom looked again and said give me the goddamn play and boy Bill O 'Brien man I gave you the effing play already well I didn't effing get it and boy on the joke what ain't him and Tom going back and forth I'm like wait a minute

29:10Shannon Sharpe:you gonna intervene anytime Coach Belichick no They'll figure it out.

29:15Joe Johnson:Hey. And Belichick got his whistle around his finger doing like this. I'm like, okay, this is normal. We started the period over. They got the mic working. We went through all 12 plays and every last one was right. Hey, man. That was... I didn't see anything like that. No, no. Hey, Ocho. It's Tom Brady. They demand greatness on Ocho.

29:41Shannon Sharpe:Joe. And Joe, that's how it was in Denver, Joe. Alex Gil, get in the effing huddle. I'm like, hold on. Why are you telling TD, cut back? I'm like, TD, why are you listening to him? He ain't running no running back. Shut the eff up, 84. How you gonna tell TD, he's just the best running back in the game, and you telling him what he should have done? man get your old ass out of this huddle did he threaten me with 16 power cause that was the only way to get me 16 power especially against the over front that mean I gotta block that big ass defensive end by myself hey that 16 power I call house come get this one right here my knee a little sore my knee a little sore Yeah, yeah, that need a little soul and 16 power.

30:40Shannon Sharpe:That ain't, that big D and I ain't fooling with that man.

30:47Joe Johnson:Oh, boy. Boy, there's so many good stories.

30:50Shannon Sharpe:Harold Fanny Jr. had high praise for Browns rookie Denzel Boston in case he concepts young. You could definitely tell night and day difference in the weapons. You can tell that them boys are special. Honestly, it makes me work even harder because you get to watch them work so hard. Just kind of building off each other. Off rip, KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston are some go-getters. They go and get it done. They go out there and execute. You can talk about Denzel. In my mind, he has the highest ceiling. I'm watching him, and I'm like, that guy is somebody special. KC, too. I didn't know he was that fast.

31:23Shannon Sharpe:He can move. He can jump, too. Great ball tracking skills. Ocho, remember we had KC on, a guy that's worked his way through a speech impediment, Joe. we had him on last year he had a speech impediment and we finally got him to open up we started making some jokes and he was having a good time but we watched him at Texas A &M we got an opportunity to see him a couple of times because obviously Texas A &M was a good team they were on a lot we also had Johnny Menzel but that's high praise the two rookies and that's what you gotta have you gotta have guys that can go get it done because for so long they've been ineffective in that area Ocho they need You got to have playmakers out there.

32:02All that other stuff, I know you got to have,

32:05Shannon Sharpe:but you got to have guys that you can put the ball up and they go make plays. Put the ball in his hands and let me go make a difference. Let me be a difference maker.

32:14Joe Johnson:Yeah, and I think the last time the Cleveland Browns had a difference maker was probably Josh Gordon. I don't know what year that was, Joe. You ever seen Josh Gordon play, Joe?

32:23Shannon Sharpe:Yes, yes. Oh, my God. He was special. Boy, he was amazing, boy. He was special. Hey, I like the fact that he said those young guys make him work harder, bro. You know, when you got good talent, guys who come in ready to work, ready to prove themselves, man, they can rub off on guys that you never would even imagine. You know what I mean? So for him saying, like, to see them guys, how hard they work and how fast they are, it makes me work harder. Like, I enjoy hearing stuff like that because a rookie can motivate a guy who's already been in the league or a veteran guy that's been in the league.

32:53Shannon Sharpe:So it's good to see that. Yeah, I like Harold Fanny Jr.'s game. I think he has the potential to be really, really special. I think he can be really, really, really good. He has that kind of ability. And he showed some promise last year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can run. Can high point the football. Great runner. You know, great transition. Can get in and out of breaks. That's what I look for as a tight end. How seamlessly does he get in and out of breaks? How well does he transition? All the other stuff, I can teach you that other stuff. I can teach you, you know, the concentration and catch the football.

33:24Shannon Sharpe:But if you can't get in and out of breaks, if you choppy, if you tip it routes off. Hey, do y 'all think that's why they let, what's his name, Njoku? Is that probably why they let him go? Yeah. He was injured a lot.

33:40Joe Johnson:They don't let you go unless they know the person behind you is going to be able to fill in position and give you that same production or even more. And that goddamn family was nice, boy. Oh, yeah. When it came to the Cleveland Browns, outside of Shadour being a bright spot that everybody wanted to watch, he was a bright spot when it came to production and make a play week in and week out until he got.

33:59Shannon Sharpe:And he's probably a whole hell of a lot cheaper too. Yeah, for sure. On the rookie contract, look, the rookies that Cleveland had, they played really well. Remember, the linebacker was defensive player, defensive rookie of the year, Ocho. I think it's Swearinger or something. Yeah. I think he was defensive rookie of the year. Harold Fanny Jr. was unbelievable. Shadour came in, and when he got an opportunity to play, he played really well. They got some guys that can hopefully make some plays, and now they drafted two more guys. They need playmakers. I don't give a damn who the quarterback is. You better have somebody they can throw the ball to and can make it happen because that's what football is.

34:38Shannon Sharpe:It's about, hey, putting the ball in your playmaker's hand and let them make plays. The sooner I can get it to you, the better off I'm going to be. Hello.

34:54Shannon Sharpe:Cardinals running back Jeremiah Love is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is unlikely to play again in the preseason, per Adam Schefter. The team is hopeful the number three overall pick can return for the regular season opener on September 13th against the Chargers. Ocho?

35:08Joe Johnson:Hey, he ain't got to worry about it. Hey, Jeremiah Love, holler at your boy. I guarantee you'll be ready for the next game. Hey, Chad, somebody tell Jeremiah Love about my remedy when it comes to sprain ankles. And I ain't never had an issue. I like your remedy.

35:25Shannon Sharpe:I like your remedy by staying on the ground. I like that one better. Yeah.

35:31Joe Johnson:Oh, that's how he heard it? From Hurling?

35:33Shannon Sharpe:I don't know how he heard it. Hey, hey, hey. It ain't going to help it if he stay up in the air. Hey, listen. Hey, y 'all can say what y 'all want to about that young man, but man, that young man run hard, bro. Oh, he does, bro. Hey, look, when I came on here and I said that, he reminded me of Adrian Peterson. I hadn't heard that in no way, but I've been hearing people say that they -

35:54Joe Johnson:Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down. Slow down, Joe. Who the hell said that?

35:58Shannon Sharpe:Somebody said that for real? Ocho, Ocho, Ocho, he run hard like AP, bro. Nah, I mean - I'm watching Ocho.

36:04Joe Johnson:No, no, no. Hey, Joe, listen, he run hard, but no, don't, no. The Adrian Peterson comparison, I ain't letting that fly. Not all of that.

36:10Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, Ocho, you must, I don't know what you were watching, Pardo.

36:13Joe Johnson:I was watching him, Joe, but come on, we can't do that now. Ocho, that man was getting through there, bro. You see how hard that man was running, bro? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, but that ain't A-B. That ain't A-B. I said he showed flashes, man.

36:25Shannon Sharpe:I ain't said he A-B. Damn, he showed some flashes. A flash?

36:28Joe Johnson:A camera flash? No. Oh, man, here he go.

36:31Shannon Sharpe:Here this man go. Are you kidding me?

36:33Joe Johnson:Hey, hey, hey. Slow down, Turbo. You ain't seen.

36:38Shannon Sharpe:Hey, slow down, Turbo.

36:40Joe Johnson:You didn't see that man running style, how you were hitting them gaps? I saw him. I saw him hitting them gaps. I seen him hit the A-gap. I seen him on the tall sweep. I saw him on the counter. But, boy, he ain't no A-B. he ain't no all day he could go Adrian Peterson was different you hear me stay with me now Joe I agree with you

37:02Shannon Sharpe:yeah yeah yeah he showed me some flashes Ocho he showed me promise that he got a hell of a future back there you hear me now that he does have there's a reason why

37:11Joe Johnson:he was the third pick right there's a reason why he was the third pick but with the comparison to being all day who was one of the greatest running backs to ever play this game.

37:22Shannon Sharpe:That's a comparison, Ocho. You can compare players when they come into the league. Damn, man. He remind me all day, bro.

37:29Joe Johnson:Man, shoot. The devil is a lie.

37:31Shannon Sharpe:No, no, no. Listen. They don't disrespect all day. Now, that boy, that was something serious. Okay?

37:36Joe Johnson:Boy.

37:37Shannon Sharpe:I think he was better after he came back off ACL. Hell, I'm like, damn. What kind of ACL they put in this knee?

37:46Shannon Sharpe:Now that man come back. How that man come back like that, bro? I don't know if they took part of his patella or they put a cadaver in there. Sometimes they take cadavers and put it in the knee. That boy hit the ground running. He down to hit the ground running. Listen, Uncle Joe. And he would have had more. Remember, he got in a little trouble for the situation with his son and he got on the commissioner's exempt list. So he missed the whole season. So if we add, and that was still his prime. So if we add that, if we add another 1 ,300, 1 ,400 yards to all they got, he probably, I don't know, I think he probably 13 ,000 yards.

38:29Shannon Sharpe:He probably had 14 ,000. We're probably looking at probably another 10 touchdowns. Hey, man. I just wish you'd have stayed in Minnesota. Yeah. I hate that he went to the Saints, and then the Saints moved on, and he went to Arizona and then he went to Washington. I just wish he could have stayed.

38:51Joe Johnson:But you know how they do you, especially when you play running back? You know, Emmitt Smith. Yeah. You know, every great, all the greats that you think and you would want to stay with one team and be a one-team jersey, it just never happens, even to the greatest running backs of all time. Frank Gore. You know, he's another one. But outside of that, Chad, I need y 'all to spam brother Jeremiah Love and tell him to Google my remedy and he going to need his teammates. I need his teammates. This is why it's called a team. There's no I in team for a reason. Tell his teammates to look at the remedy for high ankle sprains.

39:28Joe Johnson:And I guarantee you he's able to play next week. I guarantee you. Yeah, send it to his Instagrams.

39:35Shannon Sharpe:It's preseason, Ocho. He ain't really worried about playing next week, man. Ocho said this will have him ready for the regular season. Yeah, yeah. He got, if he got, it ain't a...

39:45Joe Johnson:What's your remedy? What is it? Huh? What's your remedy? Heated urine. It's like red light therapy, but it heal you faster.

39:54Shannon Sharpe:Nah, that's yellow light therapy. I don't want it.

39:57Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah, yeah, same thing. Hey, listen, it's a home remedy. It's a home remedy, you know, from back in the day. My grandma, them used to use it back in the village in Africa. Damn, they used to warm up urine? Yeah, that's how you treat your injuries.

40:12Shannon Sharpe:I mean, I heard about guys in baseball peeing on their hands. They're toughing up their hands. Hey, see? Nah, I'm good. Hold on, hold on. I seen where Ricky had, and wasn't he drinking his pee before the Floyd Mayweather fight? Hey, listen, I'm telling you. If you're stranded on a desert island, I mean, you're stranded, you can do that. Drink your pee? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Joe. Joe, you ain't doing it. Yours now, you know. Hold on, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You got to chill. You got to chill. Hey listen, Ojo, what you mean? No, I say Joe, you ain't never had nobody pee on you, Joe?

40:46Joe Johnson:Nah, man, why would I have somebody do that? Let me tell you something, Uncle Joe, this is something that y 'all probably don't do, chat, I'm not sure. I sure don't do whatever you about to say

40:56Shannon Sharpe:come out your mouth next, I don't do it.

40:59Joe Johnson:Listen, Joe, listen, Joe, you need to try this at home, you hear me? What, what I need to try? Where else I'm gonna try that? Let me tell you, right, listen to me. You know, hey, Joe, remember when y 'all used to get in the cold tub.

41:11Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

41:11Joe Johnson:And you contrast from the cold tub to the hot tub. Yes. And you notice how all the blood flow, it tingles, and that sensation it gives you from contrasting back and forth. And then you feel fresh like you never ran or jumped or jumped or jumped or jumped.

41:24Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

41:25Joe Johnson:That's the same thing a golden shower can do for you, but it has to be somebody. It got to be your lady. It got to be your lady.

41:30Shannon Sharpe:I'm going to throw up. No, it ain't going to be, no, my lady ain't going to never do that. I'm going to throw up. No, why don't you throw up? Why don't you throw up?

41:37Joe Johnson:What do you mean Boy, please, somebody play on me. Joe, just hold your nose like you got to lay down on your back. Hey, Joe, tell your lady and make sure you hold your nose and close your eye because it burns if you get in your eye.

41:48Shannon Sharpe:My kids got me a couple of times, but I ain't finna let no grown person. My kids got me. Yeah, they got me. But my grown person, oh, hell.

41:57Joe Johnson:Wait, time out, time out. This ain't about being kinky or freaky. This is a part of therapy and rehab. What is a part of therapy and rehab? What I'm telling you to let the... What it does for the body, the toxins in urine, it purifies everything. It's your urine. Ocho. No, it can't be yours. It has to be someone else. It got to be hers.

42:20Shannon Sharpe:I ain't going. I ain't rolling. I ain't going. Joe, listen to me. I got to miss a couple of games, Joe.

42:27Joe Johnson:Hey, listen. This is why we can't get nowhere to society because we don't listen. We sure ain't going to get nowhere. I ain't going nowhere.

42:37Shannon Sharpe:you're right Ocho I happen to hold you you're right we ain't going nowhere if somebody got a pee on me for me to play hey y 'all hold it down man good luck out here today you fellas hello I don't know what this man on bro

42:48Joe Johnson:Joe I've never been injured in the times I was I used this method to heal me much faster than any technology can

42:58Shannon Sharpe:so what you did the girl whoever you was dating she gave you a golden shower

43:03Joe Johnson:oh yeah Joe Hey, Joe, listen. You got goggles? You be going swimming?

43:07Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I go swimming. I really do swim, for real.

43:10Joe Johnson:Put your goggles on. Put your goggles on.

43:12Shannon Sharpe:Okay.

43:13Joe Johnson:You hear me? Yeah. And just wait. Make sure she drink apple juice. Why? Why apple juice? Because better apple juice than when the urine, you know, when it come down, ain't no smell to it. You hear me? Well, she should drink pineapples. It should be pineapples then. No, I like apple juice better. You know, hey, pineapple, it's a little sweet. It's a little sweet. Sometimes they get in your mouth, Joe. See, I ain't, Ocho, I'm going to keep it real.

43:37Shannon Sharpe:It just sounds too freaking for me. I'm just going to keep it real. I just ain't, I ain't, I just ain't. Listen, I'm like, oh, hell, I'll miss a few games. If I got to go through that, I'll miss a few, bro. Hey, hey, ain't tripping. Let it go. What y 'all doing? Yeah, I'm good. I'm putting y 'all on game. I got limits. And, you know, behind closed doors, a lot of things have happened behind closed doors. Right. But you got to draw the line somewhere, Ocho. At some point in time, you got to make a stand. See, this is what we call crossing the Rubicon.

44:07Joe Johnson:You done gone too far. You done gone too far, Chad. Hey, y 'all done made me take my shades off, man. You know I'm going to take mine off with you. That ain't happening to me. Listen, Uncle Joe, it's so frustrating trying to improve y 'all's life, man, with the experience that I've had throughout the years. It's really frustrating when y 'all don't listen.

44:26Shannon Sharpe:But how you know we ain't having tons of fun over here? I'm having tons of fun over here. I'm going to keep it 100 weeks. Listen, Joe. What about old shape?

44:33Joe Johnson:Joe, listen. Joe, listen. Uncle Joe, everything I've said since the time we started the show for the past three years, y 'all have said no to it. That means you're having fun, but you're having kindergarten fun. It's time to graduate. I need you to get to junior high. I need you to graduate to high school. I need you to graduate to college. Let me ask you a question. Come on, man.

44:53Shannon Sharpe:When you was in high school, how many PE classes you had? When I was in kindergarten, they sent us out to play three times a day. at the top of my life. I don't know what you're talking about. Hello. Hello. You had one PE class. I don't know. You about to have two.

45:12Shannon Sharpe:But most people, most people in high school only had one PE class. Man, ain't nobody

45:16Joe Johnson:trying to do all that, man. Hey, listen. Listen, and this is another problem. Like, a lot of us are scared to live in our truth. And Joe's one of them. How are you going to tell me how I'm living if I'm living in my truth? A lot of us are scared to live in our truth because we're scared of what people will think. We know we're trying to protect an image. Listen, this is me. I've always been wild. I've always been open. I've always been a social butterfly. I've always been willing to try and do anything because I don't care what people say. I don't care what people think about me. I'm going to always move to the beat of my own drum.

45:46Joe Johnson:I'm going to my own beat, right? So I'm trying to tell you guys in the chat, Unc and Joe, and bring new things to your life that you would never probably even think about, let alone even try it, let alone do. So I'm just asking you to try it. Those of you in the chat that are in relationships, try it. It will help. I'm telling you. Some of the toys that I brought on here, it's all about the experience. You don't have to like it. It's all about enjoying the experience. When you go to Knott's Berry Farm, when you go to Disney World, when you go to the movies, it's all about an experience. It's temporary.

46:17Joe Johnson:It ain't wrong. Nobody's going to know.

46:19Shannon Sharpe:You can listen to Peapod if you want to, but I ain't listening to Peapod. Hey, I said P.E. class, not P.E. class. I ain't fooling with Ocho. Ain't nobody fooling with Ocho. I definitely not. I'm not listening to Ocho. Okay. Hey, I've lived 58 years. If the Lord spent my life, I'm going to live another several years. Yeah. But I'm not listening to Ocho. All right, hey, just try it. No, I'm not. You're going to just try it. I'm not. No, I'm not. I'm good.

46:50Joe Johnson:I'm good right here where I am. You know what? And see, this is one of the issues with us. It ain't no issue, though. Ain't no issue. It is, Joe. Because we never want to try anything new. We always want to be stuck in a box. We want to stay within our comfort zone. And before you look at it... That ain't what I do. Listen, listen. But I got limits, Ocho. We're 80 years old with no experience and didn't try anything. We didn't live. Y 'all are live, but you're living. There's a difference. There's a difference.

47:19Shannon Sharpe:Even planes. Even a mark. There's limits to everything, Ocho, how fast you can go. Even if you break the sound barrier, you still can only go so fast. Even if you got a car that costs$10 million, it still can only go so fast.

47:35Joe Johnson:Hey, but the whole point is being able to reach that speed limit. Y 'all ain't even trying. You mean, y 'all stuck in the school zone, but you don't want to do nothing. You don't know how fast we going over here, man. I know how fast you're going. You said no to everything I suggest.

47:53Shannon Sharpe:I just ain't that.

47:54Joe Johnson:I mean, you got a lot going on, brother. I mean, you ain't going to lie to you. Joe, it's not a lot, Joe. I'm just living. You alive, but I'm living. There's a difference. I'm living, old Joe. That's what I'm trying to tell you. No, Joe. I need you to add some more seasoning to your food, Joe.

48:10Shannon Sharpe:Boy, it ain't spicy. It's spicy over here, old Joe. I don't need no more seasoning. I want to taste chicken. What kind of spices do you use? I don't want to taste all that paprika and black pepper and all that lemon juice and all that. I want to taste the chicken.

48:21Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, I guarantee the chat grew with me. I bet people in the chat don't agree with you. I bet you they're going to try it after they get off.

48:29Shannon Sharpe:Well, listen, listen. They're going to try it. It's a couple freaks in the chat. Now, I ain't going to be delusional to act like any couple freaks in the chat. I already know what's going on. It's a teacher's own. Yeah. It's a teacher's own. I ain't going to never judge nobody. That's all I'm saying. Hey, Chad, the chat ain't nothing but family.

48:46Joe Johnson:The chat ain't nothing but family. The chat is nothing but an extended family of us. That's all. But it's okay.

48:53Shannon Sharpe:It's okay for them to be a little freaky in the chat. Ain't nobody judging them men. That don't make y 'all no bad chat. That don't make y 'all no bad chat because y 'all do that. I mean, if y 'all want to listen to P.O. Cinco, that's okay. But I want no part of P.O. Cinco.

49:16Shannon Sharpe:What did you say?

49:17Joe Johnson:It don't make no bad chat? That don't make y 'all no bad chat. Hey, that's a good one. That's a good one. Didn't catch the latest Roland Martin Unfiltered podcast? Hey, it's Emily Tisch-Sussman, and this season on She Pivots, It's the podcast where women share bold career moves and personal turning points that changed everything. I sit down with culture-shifting women who share their pivots, like Paralympian Allie Truitt.

52:41I was like, I'm a month out from a shark attack. There's no way in 11 months I'm making the Paralympics. Advocate Elizabeth Smart. I still feel that drive that I can still make a difference, so I'm going to keep going. Celebrity chef Carla Hall. Was that scary to walk away from such a stable career after just two years? No, I was more afraid of being unhappy than I was broke in a dead end job that I didn't enjoy. And feminist legend Gloria Steinem. All of us were trying to express women's real lives. We need a meeting place of our own. And if I can contribute to that, I'd like to maintain that and leave this house for that purpose.

People like Jane Fonda, George Michael, Richard Pryor. And we pull apart the story behind the image. And we do this by digging through the BBC's vast archive. We're talking iconic moments in broadcast history.

53:42Joe Johnson:I'm not just a boxer. 54:52Joe Johnson:Hey, let's go Vaughn. Let's go Vaughn.

54:55Shannon Sharpe:Early this offseason, Dak dubbed the Dallas unit the greatest offense there is. Well, now C.D. Lamb believes that 2026, he and George Pickens can be the best ever. That's a very, very high bar because you got Randy Moss and Chris Carter. You got Laughness, Jell-A, Anquan Bolden. You got Isaac Bruce and Torrey Holt. You got Mark Superduper and Mark Clayton. You got John Stallworth, Len Swan, Fred Belitnikoff, and Cliff Branch. and then when you put anybody with Jerry Rice, Jerry Rice and T.O. Do they realize that Jerry Rice and T.O. was on the same team, Ocho?

55:26Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah, absolutely, absolutely. But listen, I like that he said that, Uncle Joe. I like that he said that. You're supposed to feel that way. Regardless of the history of the best duos that played in the NFL, you're supposed to feel y 'all two are going to be the best. Now, I don't think they'll be able to play long enough together as a duo to be able to reach the status of some of the ones that you just named. but this season coming up, boy, they got a good chance. Yeah, Joe, you heard me. They got a good chance to make their mark as one of the best duos to actually play together.

57:16Joe Johnson:I'm rocking with what CD said. And honestly, right now, they the second best duo in the league right now. They only been together one year. Behind who? What you mean behind who, bro? Bro, you're Uno Uno Cinco down there in Cincinnati. Make the hell out of here, man. Hey. Man, get out of here, bro. Hey, don't, Joe, don't, come on now.

57:33Shannon Sharpe:Nah, don't you, don't, don't piss me. Don't piss me off tonight, Ocho.

57:37Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, no, don't you piss me off being delusional now. Nah, I ain't delusional. So I'm just keeping it 100. Your 100 is 99. Nah, it's 100. If you think C. Lamb is picking the better than Chase and T. Higgins, man. What did you talk about?

57:49Shannon Sharpe:We didn't mention Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Yeah, yeah. All right, well, listen, listen. Hey, guess what, fellas? We got work to do. We ain't worried about that. We don't mind no little work, man. If that's what y 'all are talking about, we're going to put some work in, partner. We ain't worried about that part. We can put Jerry with anybody. Anybody that played opposite of Jerry Rice is a part of the greatest duo ever. whether it's whether it's uh jt john taylor whether it's uh uh tim brown yeah rather it's to anybody that was across from him is part of the greatest deal ever because of j because of how great jay was but i'm anxious to see this offense uh when you put statements out like this ocho you already know like you did when you challenge dbs you gotta go out there and back

58:32Joe Johnson:it up oh yeah that's that's the easy part that's the easy part because they've been doing it all their career hell they were doing it in high school they were doing it in college and they've been doing it they haven't been voicing it out loud which i wish more receivers would do even though it adds a little pressure on you but it's entertainment it's excitement and it forced you to have to play at a high level week in and week out call them boys out tell the world tell the nfl put defenses on notice listen we the best duo in the nfl that's how i feel i'm not really worried about the history i respect those that came before me right but i feel me and george piggins are the best duo i like it i live for that hey what is pressure hey what is pressure

59:06Shannon Sharpe:You talking about they put pressure. What is pressure? What is that, Padua? It ain't nothing. It ain't nothing. Yeah, that's what I'm trying to tell you. You talking about pressure. Ain't no pressure. I like it. We going to come out and do what I want to. I like the energy that's coming out of Dallas. Look, we done took care of big Quinny Williams, got Von Miller to get in there. Hey, listen, man. Once our defense lock in, okay, Ojo, boy, y 'all ain't going to be able to say foot nor ball when I come on here.

59:30Joe Johnson:You hear me? You hear me? Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. Listen, you doing a whole lot of talking, right? You doing a whole lot of talking and ain't going to be in the middle of that field, in between them lines, when that ball snaps.

59:40Shannon Sharpe:But I'm going to be talking the most-ish for the Cowboys. You best believe that, partner. Yeah, y 'all done met y 'all mesh tonight. You hear me? Yeah, this football day, y 'all done met y 'all mesh. You and I. Boy, I'm on y 'all this year, boy, in football, boy. I'm telling you right there. It's not going to happen.

59:54Joe Johnson:It's not going to happen. You hear me? Stay with me real quick. I know you're happy. I know you're happy y 'all got Vaughn. You hear me? I know you're happy y 'all got Caleb Dowd. You hear me? Yeah. I know you're happy because the beginning of the season, right? And obviously every season, it's always like this. Everybody's on a high. Everybody's on a high at the beginning, like a relationship. In the beginning, the first six months, oh, my God, it's beautiful. But when it matters most, what happens? Huh? You come down. You come down to reality. And that's been the main thing and the main problem and the main issue for so long.

1:00:23Joe Johnson:Before the season starts, it's always, oh, my God, it's so beautiful. You're on that high, like when you first meet somebody. But then reality sets in in the postseason. You six months in, you done got comfortable. You can say a sentence and she can finish it. You see what I'm saying? Hey, Ocho, Ocho. You picking up what I'm putting down? I want you to be - Hey, Joe. I want you to be realistic. Huh? I'm being realistic, bro. Listen to me. You two hiding yourself right now. And if you this high, that means when you come crashing down, boy, it's going to be bad, boy. Man, I ain't studying.

1:00:54Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey, hey, listen. I ain't studying all that, bro. We going to back everything we talking about, we going to back it up when season starts. How you gonna back it up if you ain't on the field, Joe? What you mean? I'm connected, homie. I am a cowboy. What you mean? I'm locked in. What are you talking about? Huh?

1:01:09Joe Johnson:Are you lucky we ain't got y 'all on the schedule this year, boy? Hey, Joe, I can ask you something. Last time y 'all played us, what happened, Joe?

1:01:15Shannon Sharpe:Man, you talking about... See, you gonna talk about old stuff again. That don't mean it don't matter. We in 2026. You talking about something happened way back yesteryear. You hear me?

1:01:22Joe Johnson:You need to lock in. We in 2026, homie. Hey, look, 2026, the hype train been the same the past 30 years every year. See, there you go. Stay talking about old stuff. There you go. Stay talking about old stuff again. I'm being honest with you. The hype train for the star in Dallas has been the same every offseason, leading into the season. In the regular season, oh, it's always beautiful. Oh, it's always awesome. But when it matters most, what's always happened, Joe?

1:01:46Shannon Sharpe:2026, can we lock in? When it matters most, what's always happened, Joe? It man, stay talking about old stuff. Old stuff, we can't even control it. It's history. I mean, listen.

1:01:53Joe Johnson:That's history, partner. What is history? When we talk about history, right? What is history? History is old stuff, ain't it? It's old news. It's old wit. Leave it alone. Then we move forward. Hey, Joe, can I tell you something, Joe? What you want to tell me? I'm a positive dude, right? Okay. I wish the Cowboys nothing but the best.

1:02:10Shannon Sharpe:Okay, we appreciate that. All right. We appreciate that.

1:02:21Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I don't know what y 'all think. Man, it's Joe. Y 'all too bad. I can just imagine. what it's going to be like doing football season.

1:02:30Joe Johnson:Hey, can I say something real quick, Unc? Listen to me. He talking a whole lot of trash for somebody that ain't going to take one snap.

1:02:38Shannon Sharpe:Bob, we going to back it up. I bet you we back it up. I bet you we back it up.

1:02:42Joe Johnson:Everything he say, they got to go out there and back it up. And if they don't, every week we come on here, boy, I'm going to let you have it, boy.

1:02:50Shannon Sharpe:Boy, you don't think them boys listen to this? You don't think they listen to us? You don't think they see what's going on? You don't think they see they got somebody who got their back.

1:02:57Joe Johnson:partner boy don't go out there and show out stop playing with us man listen listen listen all them boys watch the show they might not watch it live but everybody see the clip joe everybody see the clip joe so i'm just telling you you doing a whole lot of talking about somebody gonna take one snap offensively or defensively so you gonna get you gonna have them boys in trouble and that's your

1:03:16Shannon Sharpe:problem you worry about the wrong thing partner you worry about the wrong thing you worry about the wrong thing, Ojo. Okay. Yeah. Okay.

1:03:24Joe Johnson:Okay.

1:03:25Shannon Sharpe:Diamonds on my neck, I bend. Yeah. Eastside, westside, northside.

1:03:37Shannon Sharpe:Okay, here's something we can sink our teeth into. Three-time Pro Bowl cornerback, Devon Witherspoon, and the Seahawks have reached an agreement. Four years, $132 million, $101 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid corner in NFL history. Ocho.

1:03:52Joe Johnson:Yes, sir.

1:03:54Shannon Sharpe:Spoon reset the market. Yes, sir. Just two years ago, the grand rate for a corner was about $20 million. Here we are now, two years later, it's$33 million. Damn. Gonzalez up there saying, hey, Patriots.

1:04:11Joe Johnson:Yeah. Oh, he's going to reset it again. Yes, sir. It's going to cost you$34 million. It's getting up there, too. As difficult as a cornerback position has been over the years to me. A lot of people will probably disagree with me, but I think playing cornerback is the most difficult position outside a quarterback. Almost even, because you think about all these receivers, all these very talented elite receivers.

1:04:34Shannon Sharpe:You got a mirror.

1:04:35Joe Johnson:You have to do everything in front of them, but backwards. Yeah. You know, so Witherspoon, I mean, Witherspoon, he's definitely deserving. If you've watched him, I've been watching him, you know, over the years. One of my favorite defensive backs. Another player that I really, really enjoy watching that play for the Detroit Lions is Brian Branch as well. So these are two of my favorites that don't get mentioned enough when it come to secondaries or elite defensive back and safety play. He's very, very worthy of this, man. I'm excited for him. I'm excited.

1:05:10Shannon Sharpe:Eagles, y 'all can only play one. Quincy Mitchell or Cooper Dijon, you can only play one. Hey, I can tell you

1:05:18Joe Johnson:who it's going to be. Who?

1:05:20Shannon Sharpe:I'm just telling you what they can do. What?

1:05:22Joe Johnson:Deion Mitchell, what might be top three right now. Hey. It's about man to man. I don't know who the Eagles defensive coordinator is, but I know one thing. Yeah, you go over there. Oh, brother Fangio? Listen, Deion, I need you to do me a favor. I need you to hold down his left side, play man to man so I can worry about everything else everywhere else.

1:05:40Shannon Sharpe:Mm-hmm. Because you know they got Tariq Wollin. They got Wollin now and they moved DeJuan to safety and then they're going to move DeJuan to the slot when they bring Nickel on the field. Man, that's not fair.

1:05:55Joe Johnson:And you got them two hogs sitting up there on the front line too? Yeah. Man, stop playing.

1:06:01Shannon Sharpe:So, Gonzalez is going to be looking for a huge payday. He's going to be looking at$34 million now. Quinone, he's going to be looking at$34,$35 million. And guess who's coming back to the table? He's like, hey, y 'all have to see me again. Pat. Pat. Oh, okay. Pat. Yeah. They're probably at him. All them guys good, but bad. Hold on. When's Pat up, though? Oh, he ain't got me. He's coming back. He's on the second year of it. Oh, okay. He's like, bro. He's like, bro, I signed this$23,$24 million deal. They already making$10 million more than me? Oh, no.

1:06:41Joe Johnson:They're going to come back to him.

1:06:43Shannon Sharpe:He is as smooth and as gifted in the corner. His technique, he got the prettiest technique I've ever seen in the corner. Hey, to be that damn tall. He tall as itch.

1:06:57Joe Johnson:He a legit 6 '3". Legit 6 '3".

1:07:00Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I ain't talking about no, oh, nah, he's 6 '2", he's 6 '1". No, he legit. He might be, boy, he tall, tall. Yeah. I'm talking about arranging. Man, it's hard. Man, that's not going to walk. Knuckles just bruised up. They'd scroll up the ground, Joe. Man.

1:07:18Joe Johnson:Joe, he nice.

1:07:18Shannon Sharpe:With that technique.

1:07:19Joe Johnson:He nice. Yeah. Most of the time, especially for tall corners, when you get them in space or you get them to turn their hips, you know, they get kind of awkward because they show tall. He can swivel. He can swivel them hips, don't you? He play corner even though he's 6 '3", but he play small. I don't know if that makes sense. You know what I mean?

1:07:40Shannon Sharpe:really, really, really good. Yeah, he real got his hips. He could turn and get up out of there. He got 4-4 speed. He can play it all. He can play it all. He really, really good. But I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised. I told Ocho this. I said, Ocho, they're going to let Spoon go. They're going to let him, what you call him, both? Or Wolin? I said, he gone. I said, why you say that? I said, Ocho. the distractions. He do too many bonehead plays on the field. And they can't pay him. They can't pay both of them. They can't. You got two guys like that, because now, it's like when they play those two guys, they play those two D tackles.

1:08:24Shannon Sharpe:Now how you going to play two corners? And Jalen Hurts. Now what you going to do with Jalen Hurts? Jalen Hurts contract up too. He going to be looking for a payday.

1:08:36Joe Johnson:Damn. Well, the Eagles window was right in that too, boy. Yeah, you got to. The window was right in that.

1:08:44Shannon Sharpe:But, man, he's earned that payday. Three Pro Bowls. You saw what he did in that playoff run last year. Him and Walton, they were unbelievable. But he's been that guy, you know, since he got in. Yeah. And with him and Walton on one side, both of them had elite speed. That defensive front was unbelievable. and once they brought Ernest Jones in he solidified everything he shut everything down the road in the run made sure everybody was where they needed to be where they were supposed to be they got a really they got a really really good team they got another they got another two three years in this window right here but spoon 132 million woo well how much how much guarantee 101 oh they probably gave They probably gave him 50 mil at signing.

1:09:39Shannon Sharpe:They guop that boy down, didn't they? Man. Damn, boy, if y 'all were born just a little later. I told my mama that. My mama had her last kid at 17. Mama said I was done. My mom had her first kid at 17, the last one at 25. Mama said I'm done. Out of there. Hey. Mama said that's a wrap. Damn. I said, see, but look at that. You had two boys. Look at that. This is a matter of fact. You had another two boys. You might have had four boys in the league. That's all right.

1:10:15Shannon Sharpe:Damn. She said, my back hurt with your big ass. Hey, hold up. Did y 'all mama play any sports, huh? Yeah, my mom played sports. My dad played sports. My dad had a scholarship. You couldn't go to A. You got a kid. Where you going? Right. To work? Where you going? Hey, they had no NIL back Back in the 60s Man, you done Hey, Barney Porter wasn't playing that Hell, they had NIL in the late 90s Get you a job and pay for their kid Yeah Hey, hey They had NIL in the late 90s I thought I was going to give me some back pay They said they were going to start getting people back pay If you had been out of college for I think like 8 to 10 years Yeah Hell, I started counting hell.

1:11:01Shannon Sharpe:I've been out of college 20-something years, man. Exactly. Hey, Joe, I was telling me, my homeboy was talking. I said, man, I've been out of college 35 years. 35. We had a high school reunion. I've been out of high school 40 years. It go quick, don't it, man? Yeah, 40. Damn. 40. It's bad. Nah, hell nah. But no, I came along at the right time. It would be a problem for me because I love winning too much. I take it too seriously. I take it too serious. Yeah. And just goofing around and all this, want to be, you know, wanting the clicks and likes and all that other stuff, that would annoy the hell out of me, man.

1:11:47Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man. Mm-mm. It's different now. Way different. Didn't catch the latest Roland Martin Unfiltered podcast? Here's what you missed.
