In short
Browns QB Deshaun Watson addresses potential boos at his first home game (vs Panthers), plus NFL coaching drama (Mike McDonald vs Sean Payton “Spygate”-style cheating accusation), and whether Matt LaFleur is on a hot seat. Also discussed: Jaguars using Travis Hunter more offensively after a Week 2 loss.
Guests (hosts/participants)
The episode is driven by two recurring hosts: Ocho (frequent speaker) and “Uncle Joe” (another frequent speaker). Todd Monklin is quoted/interviewed about the booing question. Mike McDonald and Sean Payton are referenced via a Graham Bessinger interview clip. Graham Bessinger is mentioned as the interviewer who released the off-the-record exchange.
Key claims
- Watson says he doesn’t want to “go at war” with Browns fans and wants their support; hosts argue performance will determine boos.
- Todd Monklin says the team is backing Watson and that booing is about an individual, not the whole franchise.
- McDonald claims Payton threatened to publicly accuse Seattle of Spygate-style cheating after Seattle used publicly available training-camp plays; McDonald says they countered with legal action and Payton backed down.
- Hosts argue LaFleur’s “hot seat” pressure is tied to team performance.
Notable examples
- Panthers scoring: 37 (Week 1) and 34 (Week 2); Browns may need ~28+ to match.
- Travis Hunter: hosts want more wide-receiver packages; mention a near interception.

2:41Shannon Sharpe:The Browns prepared for their first home game in Cleveland this Sunday against the Panthers. Quarterback Deshaun Watson said he doesn't want to be at war with the Browns fans. Let's take a listen to what Deshaun had to say.
2:53Joe Johnson:But, yeah, I mean, the biggest thing, like, I don't ever try to go at war with the fans. So, I think the biggest thing is just, you know, ready for support, ready to feel their energy, ready to get this big dub for the city of Cleveland and, you know, continue this great feeling that we have this week.
3:08Shannon Sharpe:So, that's my motto, and just keep pushing forward, finding ways to win on Sunday to, you know, take advantage of the opposing team and get a dub.
3:20Joe Johnson:I like it. Hey, listen, I'm happy for him. I'm happy for him based on how he played last week. I'm happy for him for all the struggles and problems and adversities he's had to deal with, not only off the field, but on the field with the injuries. So I'm glad he played good last week. I'm glad he's 1-1 right now, and he had the chance to rectify everything with the fans this week with his performance. It's all going to come down to his performance. But one thing about it, he's going against a Carolina team that's hot, and Bryce Young is playing really, really good football. Really good football.
3:52Joe Johnson:That young bull Devin Lloyd over there with the Carolina Panthers. Man, boy, they got them one over there. Oh, they're the big D lineman. They keep some good linebacks.
4:01Shannon Sharpe:I think his name is Derrick Brown. Yeah. And then, you know, you got JC on the back end. So, they got – Look, they played really well against the Falcons. We did see them in week one, Ocho, give up 59. I don't know if Cleveland have the arsenal, the firepower to go get 59. No, no, no. But they're like, can we go get 29? Can we get half of what the Bears got? But the question is, looking at Carolina offensively, 37 in week one, 34 in week two. I was just going to say that. They 30 a game. Yeah.
4:46Joe Johnson:My ex-man, Xavier Leggett, playing good. Petarola McMillan, playing good. Coker, playing good. They let my boy Jimmy Horn go. So Jimmy over there with him. In Cleveland. Brown. With Cleveland now. So, you know, he, well, listen, this is what they're doing here. This is what they're going to do here. You know how that goes. They got him under the lights.
5:09Shannon Sharpe:The thing is, Ocho, that he a little young, so he's not, If that was you or I in year five, year six, that might be a different ball game because we'd be entrenched in the offense, know all the fine nuances, know all the checks, all the signals. When they do this, don't even worry about that. That don't mean nothing. Bryce Young bulljot. Right. But when he does this, he actually means something. Because that was a lot of times because a lot of times when we played somebody that would play with us and they were abreast in the West Coast, we had to do some dummy stuff because everybody knew what smoke was and everybody knew what line and look and slack, Sally, slack and go.
5:45Shannon Sharpe:You know, everybody know what that was.
5:51Well, look, I'm happy for Deshaun, bro.
5:55Shannon Sharpe:You know, he gets another opportunity, Ankin Ocho, you know, to play the game that he loves. Obviously, I know he wants to play well and perform well in front of that home crowd. And his swag, his swag seem a little different too. He got a little more bouncing that step since he got that win. You can kind of tell. I don't know about y 'all, but I'm just reading body language. You know what I mean?
6:16Joe Johnson:Watch how he walk, Joe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He look a lot more comfortable than that. Watch how he walk. You can tell when somebody comfortable and they know they playing well, look how they walk. Matter of fact, look how he dropped back with the ball. Yeah. You know? Body language tells you everything, boy.
6:30Shannon Sharpe:It do. I think the thing is what Deshaun needs to understand. Look, he says, I don't want to be at war with the fans, but you can't break. Look, I found the best way to defuse the fans is to kill them with kindness. Yeah, you're upset because they cheered that you were injured. And I'm the first to admit, come on now. I don't think you cheer anybody that's injured. Your damn show can't cheer your own guy got injured. Hell no. Right. But I'm glad that he's kind of made peace with the fans. And hopefully, I think a lot of this diffusion has to do with they won last week. It's kind of hard to boo a guy that you won.
7:08Shannon Sharpe:You won the previous week. Now, I'm going to give you a chance. Now, I ain't going to tell you that I'm not going to boo. Because you throw a pick, I'm going to boo your ass. You throw me the ball, I'm going to boo your ass. You make a bet. You overthrow the guy that he opened for a touchdown, I'm going to boo you. I'm just letting you know. I just gave you some grace. I'm not going to boo you when you come out the tunnel. So what happened is now, instead of having the defense come out because you didn't want to run the risk of getting Deshaun boo, hell, I might bring him come out there and let him hear the fans' cheers' names.
7:38Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, listen, I hope they call the offense out, too. You know what I'm saying?
7:41Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
7:42Joe Johnson:I hope this game, I hope they call the offense. I hope Deshaun is the last one to go so he can get those cheers. Because right now, the last thing they remember is Deshaun having one hell of a game in the last game they played.
7:54Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey. That's all they remember.
7:56Joe Johnson:That's all they have to go off right now.
7:59Shannon Sharpe:That's all they have to go off right now, Ocho. But it's what have you done for me lately? Bingo. When they play that first home game and they run out, Deshaun has the, not just Deshaun, but the Browns. They got to give them people something to cheer about. You know what I mean? Because, listen, if you don't give them something to cheer about, then that means you give them something to bull about. You know what I'm saying? So they want to come out and perform well as a unit, and I know Deshaun, he wants to play well, you know, again, another one. You know what I mean? Like I said, it don't have to be 400, but be a comfortable quarterback back there to where you're moving the ball forward.
8:35Shannon Sharpe:You can put points on the board. Because you're playing against Carolina, we already know them boys, hey, they're putting them numbers up. I think the thing is, Ocho, they're going to have to match. They're going to have to get to 28. Because I think Carolina's going to put points on the board. That's me personally. I could be wrong. But they put 37 on the board at home. They went to Atlanta, put 34 on the board. So we know they can score. They can score. They got big play potential. They got a nice running game with Chuba Hubbard. And you mentioned the wide receivers, and Bryce Young has played.
9:11Shannon Sharpe:The last eight games of last year and the start of the season, Bryce Young has played as well as he's played at any point in time in his NFL career. That's all you can ask for a young player is to get better. Yeah, we like to see the big jump. But sometimes it's just incrementally getting better until we get to that point where you see that big, gigantic leap. Like, okay, yeah, he legit now. Yeah, they're going to have to break bread. He's looking to get that$55,$60 million. And I think that's what they're going to have to do. But we understand, Deshaun. I think the thing is that you're going to have to play well.
9:51Shannon Sharpe:you bought some time it's not forever but you hey Joe they give a couple of series to stall out a little more than that they coming with the boos are you saying Cleveland yeah I think they give them a little grace I think you could have you know three and out maybe get one first down two first downs after that they're like hey Like, whoa, uh-uh, uh-uh. Especially if they get behind. If they get behind, it's probably going to get ugly. I agree. But, yeah, I ain't wishing that on a young man. I want him to keep playing well because I know he wants to continue playing the game of football. But, boy, listen, you talk about pressure from week to week.
10:38Shannon Sharpe:If you Deshaun, I don't care what you say. I don't care what he tell the media or what the Browns media say. Man, listen, that man got a lot of pressure on him every week. Every week. And not only the pressure that comes along with being a quarterback, he know. Yeah. He know. We don't have to address, but everybody knows. Yeah. Everybody knows. And it's, you know, pressure is a privilege. It's a great thing to have. That means you have expectations. You, what do you, I mean, when an individual have expectations, that's when all of a sudden you feel something. man when I was a rookie Ocho man I wasn't playing no offense man I had no man please get my little special get my little special team my punt punt return kick kick return I'm up out here I'm out of everybody's way just made sure punt you up run out there to my gunner spot I'm cool punt return you up now all of a sudden they put me on offense now people are expecting things hello So on the offensive side of football, there's really only five players, you know, your wide receivers.
11:49Shannon Sharpe:So you got five players that can really do something. Hey, on kickoff a punt, Joe, I got nine other guys that can make a tackle. Them offensive linemen ain't going to make no plays. So basically it's on us, the running backs and the wide receivers and the tight ends. So now my focus shift. Oh, man, I got eight. Hey, that's going to run. man damn okay let's get it I'm all for that I love I love having expectations placed on me I think that's what we thrive on Ocho you know your grandmother your mom they were counting on you to get them out of that situation Joe you know your mom if you don't get us out of here how are we getting up out of here Joe ain't nobody coming around dropping off no lottery tickets that they won millions and millions of dollars, then here you go.
12:47Shannon Sharpe:So we've had expectations placed on us at a very young age. We put that expectation on ourselves because we're saying if we don't get us out of here,
13:01Shannon Sharpe:and you're not this hard, like the further you go along, I mean, you ain't really trying to get, I mean, people ain't getting great, great, great, great grandma out of the situation. you might get mom out of there grandma. But boy, great-grandma and great-great-grandma, they left it like damn. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, I got to get grand help out of this situation. Hello. By any means. Any means. Yeah. That's why I tell you, hey, boy, hey, hey, hey, Ocho, boy, when I figured it out and I knew I had a real opportunity, hey, not only for myself, but hell, for mama and grandma. Yeah, for sure. Hey, boy, they done made some sacrifices for you, boy.
13:41Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? Hey, hey, hey, hey. I want to be able to come home in the summer, man. My mama sitting in there in the living room with her feet kicked up on the ottoman watching TV. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, I got tired of that fan. It got three blades and one of them missing. You got to put a big old cement block on there to keep the fan from dancing. Right. Oh, no.
14:06Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, that's so funny, Uncle Joe. You got to think, my grandma never really said why she was so hard on me. I understand the sacrifices that she put in, but she got fed up.
14:21Shannon Sharpe:Well when I got thrown out of the links, Uncle Joe, I came home and she looked at me, man,
14:26Joe Johnson:with tears in her eyes and she hit that, I've done all I can. I washed my hands. I was home for another 48 hours before I was on a flight to LA to my mama.
14:36Shannon Sharpe:Damn.
14:37Joe Johnson:See, I can't do it no more. I can't do it. Hey, Ocho. Huh?
14:41Shannon Sharpe:That hurt you, don't it? See them tears in her eyes?
14:43Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, that hurt, boy. I don't know. That hurt, boy. You know, as a youngin', you know, I'm young, I'm wild, Joe. I don't really listen. Yeah. You know, she been telling me to put school first. I'm trying to do it my way, because I'm thinking, my talent alone, I ain't going to have to worry about no school.

14:58Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
14:59Joe Johnson:Man, it kept biting me in the ass every time, Joe. Man, my back was against the wall. It took me three years to get out of a two-year institution. JUCO, two years, Joe. Man, I was ineligible my second year, so it took me three years to get out of a two-year institution. I was like, my back was against the wall, Joe. It was either now or never. So I was just like, you know what, let me try it her way. Man, I went to summer classes at West LA. I went to summer classes at Southwest. I was at Santa Monica. Man, I got that one-for-one man at Oregon State. But once I got on that big stage, Joe.
15:33Shannon Sharpe:It was a wrap.
15:34Joe Johnson:That's all I needed. I just needed them people. I needed them NFL scouts. To see you. Just to see I could play ball.
15:41Shannon Sharpe:You just needed somebody to see you. That's it. Once they saw you. But here's the thing. More than that, you didn't want to see your grandma like you saw her the last time you saw her. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It does something to you to see your grandma cry. Because you have to understand, my grandma was born in 1921. Yes, sir. My grandma lived through the great... My grandma was in that time when things were hard. Yeah. My grandma was out there with the kids picking cotton. So you know what my grandmother had gone through. They having kids naturally. They having kids at home. Ain't no damn medication.
16:22Shannon Sharpe:So you know them women tough. I'm talking about tougher than wet level. Yes, sir. And to see something to hurt your grandma that bad. Yeah. She don't really know what else to do. I done cried. I done prayed about it.
16:39Joe Johnson:I done did all I can. I never forget them words, Joe. I done did all I can. I done prayed on it. But baby, I can't do it no more. Hey, the most hurtful thing is
16:52Shannon Sharpe:it's the disappointment that you hear in those boys. You know what I mean? Once you hear that disappointment, you like, oh my God. And that'll crush you, boy. They're crushing.
17:04Joe Johnson:It's so funny. Hold on now, Uncle Joe. She done did all this sacrificing. I finally make it. We have draft day at my house, at grandma's house. We have draft day. I'm hype, boy. Joe, I get drafted second round, and everybody, you know, my homeboy's out the crib, you know. God, dog, boy, you went to Cincinnati. Boy, you sure you won? They the worst team in the league. I say, boy, I don't care where I went. Boy, I'm going to go out here and show out. I'm going to be every bit of Liberty City, Dade County, and represent us very well. And I did just that. And I tell grandma, I say, baby, we finally made it.
17:37Joe Johnson:We can get up out of here. She's like, get up out of here. Right. I ain't going up there. She said, you going right ahead. You don't want no new house? Hey, Joe, she ain't want no new house. She wouldn't let me do no upgrades. She wouldn't let me do nothing. Man, Joe, why? Every time football season ends, where you think I went and stayed at? Your grandma? Right at grandma's house. I was there till like my fourth year in the league.
18:00Shannon Sharpe:you do realize that grandparents love their grandkids more than they love their own kids hello all the mistakes they made with their own kids they get to correct with you that's why it hurts them so bad because they pour so much more into you than they poured into their own kids yeah and knowing the sacrifices that they made for you when you hurt them it hurts you even more it's something about when my grandma can tell me something that my mom couldn't tell me because I'm like yeah you my mom but hold on granny is your mom so she really know yeah it's just something about it man me and Spanky Boy, it's just something, like I said, I knew every time, if I ever talked, because my grandfather passed, Granny didn't cry.
19:02Shannon Sharpe:No? Mm-mm. Mm-mm. Like I said, my grandma was tough. So I knew when I saw my grandmother cry, I knew it was something really, really, really, really going on. like I said I can only recall maybe twice in 43 years because my grandmother passed in 2011 in 43 years to see my grandmother cry
19:33Joe Johnson:I don't take death well at all
19:35Shannon Sharpe:hey Joe we had a show
19:37Joe Johnson:hey Joe we had a show and Unc was talking about you know the dog he's had a lot of dogs
19:45Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
19:46Joe Johnson:Man, he would talk about a dog that he had to put down, Joe.
19:49Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
19:50Joe Johnson:Man, I'm over here tearing up. You can see the tears. I'm trying to hide it from the chat, but I had to take my glasses off and wipe, man. I don't have no relationship with Unk Dog. Way back in the day, I don't take death well at all, man. Just the thought. And just the thought of hearing him talk about it, man, I'm boohooing.
20:11Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it's tough. Yeah. It's tough. Hey, hey, hey. Because when you think about it, with Grandma Uncle Ocho, hey, man, if you needed something done, she was going to do it. You know, hey, hey, maybe I don't want to worry mama about signing this damn behavior document I done got at school. Because she working two or three jobs. They going to come with a slap across the head or something. Hey, I'm going to go to Grandma. Grandma, I need you to sign that behavior document. You know? Hey, and she'll sign it. You know what I mean? So, ooh, boy, she saved you, boy, many days. It's something about them grandmothers, man.
20:45Shannon Sharpe:Ain't no sense to lie about that. It's something about them. Todd Monklin was also asked if he addressed the potential of getting booed on Sunday with Deshaun. Let's take a listen to what Todd had to say. Oh, I mean, he's not on his own. I mean, we're all here for him. I mean, it's... What have you done all the work for, man? What have you done it for? what have you worked 22 months to come back to play and give yourself a chance to play at a high level i mean it's really cool you know i said let it rip what do you have to fear let it rip man i mean you've already had a hell of a career already and man let's just go go down fighting go back go down swinging let's improve every week as a team and as a unit and there's still going to be pitfalls i mean we're human we're a young offense so and we're young being together I'm using that term again, for God's sakes.
21:38So I'm going to get that back. But I'm just saying in general, like, let's just have a great week and let's put our best foot forward in them. Then we can turn the page the next week and see where we're at the next week. That's all we can do.
21:52Shannon Sharpe:We love using that term young, don't we? Yeah. Man, we're a young team. You know, he's ugly as young. That's that crutch.
22:03Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, you know why? going well, this is why they're not going well. Because they are young. Because it's a new system. The whole nine yards. And then also when they boo, they're not booing the team, even though we're all together, collectively. They're booing an individual that's not playing well. Coach knows that. He knows that as well. And the other players aren't going to be affected by booing if it's just Deshaun that they're booing. Hold on, hold on.
22:31Shannon Sharpe:You don't think they're booing the organization too? I don't think it's just Deshaun getting booed. Okay, Ocho, I'm going to just be real with y 'all. I think the fans are a little, you know, they probably subsided a little bit as far as like with the booing or whatever the boo hazing they're going to give Deshaun. But I think it's to the franchise too, man. I don't think it's just toward Deshaun.
22:52Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, them boys go out there and three and out, and three and out. Intercept them. Them boo birds, they coming. What? In Cleveland?
23:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Man, please. It's crazy. It's crazy because, you know, they haven't seen great quarterback play in so long. And it's like, man, you got to be a diehard faithful fan, Uncle Ocho, to keep showing up like this, man, year after year, game after game. That's why I say that Cleveland got the most loyal fans. Because they go into the season, no, they ain't got no chance of going to the Super Bowl. Everybody else, they got to, Ocho, everybody else has this blind optimism. the family oh we going ask the Broncos the Chargers before they start I mean most teams they're like maybe three or four teams yeah if not we ain't going but they fans oh yeah we going to the Super Bowl Cleveland know they're not going to the Super Bowl they know they don't have the pieces in place to get there but them jokers I done played Cleveland enough we played them twice a year went to Cleveland twice when I played with Baltimore.
24:05Shannon Sharpe:And we used to go to Cleveland a lot when I played in Denver because there's the AFC and we played a lot. Man, them Juggles be out there tailgating. I'm like, y 'all just must come. Y 'all just like tailgating because you know damn well y 'all not about to win today. Y 'all just want to come get drunk, throw the football, play whatever y 'all playing, games y 'all playing, and meet up with y 'all friends. You know damn well y 'all not about to win this game today. And guess what? 70-plus thousand show up every damn Sunday when they know damn well they're not going to win. I tip my hat off to Cleveland fans.
24:40Shannon Sharpe:I don't know how y 'all do. Me, I couldn't be no fan like that, Ocho. You lose a couple of years, I'm going to get me another team. I ain't finna hold you. Man, you ain't finna get me. First of all, I ain't that type of fan, Ocho, that I'm going to brave no elements. I'm not going in no damn cold. I don't give a damn who playing. unless it's my brother I ain't going out there that damn cold yeah I didn't mean you ain't no diehard fan I happen to hold you you right Joe I'm not
25:16nope
25:18Shannon Sharpe:I like my team I'm not going to sit in no cold I'm not going to sit in no rain hey I'm a fan I'm 85 degree fan that's the time man oh yeah them folks Ocho you think I'm gonna go sit in Green Bay Chicago no
25:37Joe Johnson:hell no what hold on you gotta think about this now use your visual use your visuals real quick Uncle Joe think about this hey Chad think about this it's November December matter of fact late December the Bears have a game a home game or the Packers have a home game you got your little piece huh
25:55Shannon Sharpe:yeah
25:56Joe Johnson:y 'all get layered up put on your Montclair coat put on your snow boots you hear me your long johns your little mittens with the little battery to heat them up your little batteries with your socks get you a nice heated blanket with her at the game bundled up with the covers with the hot cocoa that's romantic That's a moment. I like that. I would be up with the covers in the house.
26:30Shannon Sharpe:And when she get a little too close, we're going to get real romantic. I'm going to put pause on this game. Come on, kill me up. I got to hell you.
26:42Shannon Sharpe:Man, I don't be fooling with that cold, man. I learned about nothing. But I ain't built like that. You can't just sit there and cuddle and have a good night, watch a movie, watch a game. I did that thing one time. I went to my brother. This was in 89. Yeah. I went to see that play in Minnesota. Let me tell you how cold it was. It was so cold, beer was freezing in cups. Now, you know how cold it got to be to get alcohol to freeze? Yeah, yeah. So what you think it's going to do to my black ass? That ain't never been in that before.
27:18Joe Johnson:You got to lay up.
27:19Shannon Sharpe:I laid up in the damn bed sick for a week. I said never no more unless I'm playing I can't do it I tip my hat fans I tip my hat if you in Buffalo if you in anywhere where it gets cold I'm talking about 10, 15 below and you still go out there and you cheer and you support your team if I had a hat I'd tip it to you cause O'Shea if Sterling Sharp ain't playing if Kiara Sharp wasn't playing I ain't going out there in that damn cold you out your damn mind
27:55Joe Johnson:and what about the man in Denver the man in Denver when it's cold be out there with the barrel oh barrel man
28:00Shannon Sharpe:hey come on now I tilt my hat to him I said me
28:12Shannon Sharpe:my brother playing my kids playing you boy there I'll bite that bullet for three hours other than that I'm clicking at home.
28:29Shannon Sharpe:Oh, no. Man, that cold just does something. I don't know what it is, Joe, but that cold does something to you. Hey, he hurt you. Once you get the chills and you start shaking, it's a wrap. Go ahead. You cold, Sean? Mm-mm.
28:54Shannon Sharpe:Hey, I couldn't even imagine chasing somebody, trying to hit them, you know, trying to make a contact play in football and that type of weather, bro. I don't even know how y 'all do it. And then you see guys out there with no shirts on. They just run. They soft up. Not me, though. They soft up when they out there like that? Are you talking about people in the stands? No, I'm talking about players who be out there with no shirts on for the game. I don't know what they do. Oh, you're talking about no shirts. Hey, Joe, I say I'm competing against everybody. I'm competing against the guy on the defense and this damn weather.
29:30Shannon Sharpe:F y 'all. Hey, you wore sleeves? I didn't wear no sleeves. But I wore sleeves in practice. And you know, I had on sweats. Like the offensive linemen, they go out there with shorts. No matter how cold it is, the linemen, Joe, out there with shorts on. So we might be practicing in 10, 15 degrees, and the lineman out there for two hours was just shorts on. Damn. I said, oh, no.
29:52Joe Johnson:Hell no. I couldn't wear no sleeves. Hey, Joe, when it get cold, I couldn't wear no sleeves because I can't feel the ball. They be holding. Yeah. You know, I put that Vaseline on. Can you put Vaseline on?
30:04Shannon Sharpe:Outside. Nothing on the inside. Just the outside.
30:08Joe Johnson:Outside. Why?
30:08Shannon Sharpe:What the Vaseline do? Keep the heat moist. Keep it in. Keep that layer in. man you ain't never put no Vaseline on your face your grandma ain't say keep it up boy put that Vaseline on the face keep that Hulk up lay you up real good yeah
30:25Joe Johnson:I remember them days yeah yeah yeah hey I'm glad it's over though
30:30Shannon Sharpe:oh yeah I ain't glad to do that what you talking about Ocho
30:32Joe Johnson:just playing in the cold having to put that Vaseline on getting hit trying to catch the ball in the cold your hands numb I got my heat packs inside the palm of my hand, Joe. Yeah. 34:00Shannon Sharpe:In a video that seemed to be off the record with Graham Bessinger, Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald said Broncos head coach Sean Payton threatened to accuse Seattle of Spygate-style cheating. Listen to this, guys. So funny story about Sean Payton and me. It's my first year. I like Sean a lot. I'm not his biggest. he's oh he's not my biggest fan what uh so our first year and so we play them our first game and so like you know my boy you know whatever it's a fans watch they you know fans will like tape or like post plays from training camp on twitter and so it's like public right now so we took like a hundred plays from their training camp good for you we're like scouting them you know and like anyways so he got wind of it and he like lost him it's like middle of the season and like and we're and we won the game so like and we're and we were in the fight like our first year we were trying to a lot going on and so he called johnny basically like threatened to come out publicly and do it like a whole patriot like spy gate type of thing yeah i'm sitting there like oh my god i'm like we didn't cheat like that like you know we thought it was a michigan thing or We had a plant and the whole thing.
35:20And we're like, so we had to like counter with him to. No, really. Say like, hey, look, if you come out of this, like we're going to sue you because it's not true, you know? Right. And did you ever, did you ever talk to him? So he like, he backed down, but he was like killing John, our GM. And John was telling me like, dude, did you? I'm like, dude, no. Like, what are you crazy? Like, I'm not, we're not, that's not how we do business, you know?
35:43Shannon Sharpe:Hey, y 'all, y 'all know who it is. It's your favorite. And thank you, Ro, for sponsoring this video. You know what I've always believed? The biggest moments don't make you. They reveal whether you're prepared or not. Nobody waits until kickoff to start stretching. The work is already done. The preparation has already happened long before the lights even came on. It's no different getting ready for the bedroom. And you don't want to get caught in your own head when it's time to perform. You want to be present, enjoy the moment, and have the confidence that comes with knowing you're ready. That's why I like Rose Sparks.
36:14Shannon Sharpe:It gets you erect in 15 minutes on average after it dissolves under your tongue. and it lasts up to 36 hours. For full safety info, go to ro.co slash safety info. In a statement, McDonald said, it's something that was not intended for public use. I reached out to Sean. It's a lesson learned. I have to be better in that moment. I'm responsible for what I say.
37:32Shannon Sharpe:I fell short in that moment. It stings me. It's something I'm going to learn. Graham Bessinger, you see he released the statement. We got the statement there. As someone that...
37:45Joe Johnson:I'm confused. What do you mean it's not for public consumption and you're on a show with Graham Bessinger and that's the whole point?
37:52Shannon Sharpe:But I think the thing, this was before they actually started taping. Oh. So Graham, he released it anyway. Yes. And as somebody that's in this space, Ocho, anything that we say before we go live is off the record. You gotta say off the record. Off the record. You gotta say off the record. Anything that you say, and you say, you know what, Shanna, can you do me a favor? You know, I said X, Y, and Z, can you take it? We take it out.
38:20Shannon Sharpe:We don't try to put anybody in a bad light. People say what they said. I'm like, are you okay? Because what we do most of the time, Ocho, we'll re-release it in its entirety. That's why the club Shay Shay, their hour, 2.30, 2.50, three hours, because we release it in its entirety. because we don't want anybody to say, well, they edited this out. No, no, no, no, no, no. That's what you said. So you have to be careful. Like, I don't know why he would put that in there because clearly, but that's why you got to be careful. If you do this long enough, Joe, when you're on television, ESPN, and Undisputed, hey, you want to say something?
39:02Shannon Sharpe:I'm covering my mic and I'm talking because, hey, I don't know what. It might not be go out over the airway, but it might be used at a later date and time. So you cover that mic or you cut your mic off. Lesson learned. But I don't know why they would release this when clearly the way I'm looking at it, I don't think, because he says, look, I want to tell you a funny story. You see how he almost whispered it, Ocho and Joe? Clearly you know that's not for public consumption. Go ahead, guys. You know they want the clickbait, bro. I don't understand why they will post. I don't understand either because you know the type of pitches it's going to paint and how it's going to make him look.
39:44Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? So, to post that, you're like, man, I don't give a damn for real. That's what it seemed like to me, Uncle Ojo. Because he's going to have to take the backlash from this, bro.
39:57Joe Johnson:Yeah. I mean, it'll probably blow over, but the fact that it's out, obviously it's added fuel to the fire. Now it's going to get legs of its own. Now that this is out, so he's going to have to deal with the storm for a little bit. Maybe two, three, four days. And then, listen, they'll be on to the next topic.
40:18Shannon Sharpe:Hold on, because that's cheating. That man said they took some of they plays. He said they took some of they plays and studied them. Graham Bessinger released a statement, as you can see. Put the statement back up, Ash, because y 'all pull it. Graff, can you put the statement back up? He really, you know, tried to clarify. Clarification. Mm-mm.
40:40Joe Johnson:that's long I can't even see that
40:53Shannon Sharpe:Coach McDonald reached out to me directly yesterday morning expressing concern I immediately told him we would remove the portion and we did unfortunately it had already been clipped and from our interview by online outlets and circulated elsewhere I told Coach that in hindsight I regretting long the exchange to be included in that it was my error in judgment. I have tremendous respect for Coach, and we spent significant time together in Seattle, and I came away impressed not only by what he has accomplished in such a short period of time, but by the person he is. The last thing I wanted was one exchange to overshadow the story.
41:28Shannon Sharpe:I have a great respect for Sean Payton, who had an opportunity profile as well. Bro. the whole interview might not be look y 'all know I did I think the cat interview was what 248 Jordan? 2 hours and 48 minutes I guarantee y 'all can tell me y 'all can't tell me all 248 but I know y 'all can tell me certain clips what overshadowed the pod can't you? same thing with Monique Monique was 255 y 'all can't tell me everything Monique said but y 'all know the important snippets You know what this was going to be. To accuse someone of a Spygates type.
42:14Joe Johnson:Honestly, stuff like that, especially someone like that, like Graham, who's been doing this for a very long time, you know what should go out and what shouldn't. For sure. You green light everything that's supposed to go out. So you understood the ramifications. If it did get out, what it would cause, especially with him being a coach. implying that another coach cheated. You know it was going to happen.
42:38Shannon Sharpe:I always ask before I sit down, Ocho, you've been on the pod. I say, is there anything you don't want to discuss? Because I feel anybody can sit down with me, Ocho and Joe. Yeah. You can tell your story. Because I feel for the fact that you're sitting across from me, I think you have an interesting story. I believe you can tell your story without revealing your most salacious detail. your most embarrassing moment. You want to cut it out? If you want to talk about it, you can talk about it. If not, boom. Some people say, well, I don't want to talk about this. Boom. Some people say, bro, I'm an open book.
43:14Shannon Sharpe:Ask me to wait. Sometimes we done, we already done two and a half hours. That's it. They want to keep on talking.
43:24Joe Johnson:Yeah, we waiting on you, Joe.
43:26Shannon Sharpe:Man, why you say, come on, man, chill, bro.
43:29Joe Johnson:Yo, we ain't know you club, J. Shade, man. Hey, and you got to be an open book, like I was. Hey, everything in green light. What y 'all want to talk about?
43:38Shannon Sharpe:How you going to tell me how I need to move, though? That's what I'm saying. How you going to tell me
43:42Joe Johnson:how I need to move? Because the people need to know your story, Joe. Huh? From A to Z, Joe. Don't skip no letter.
43:52Shannon Sharpe:All right.
43:53Joe Johnson:All right. They're here one day, Ocho. Okay. Okay. But don't wait too long, man.
43:58Shannon Sharpe:All right. All right. yeah but I don't know like I said I think Graham's been doing this a long time he knows look I haven't been doing it as long as he has but I know basically within after I'm done with the interview I already know what clip we're going to lead out with and I haven't been doing it nearly as long as him if I want to get somebody to listen to the entire interview, what am I going to do? I'm going to lead out my best clip. If I want to catch a big fish, I got to use my best bait, Ocho.
44:39Joe Johnson:Come on now. Come on now.
44:42Shannon Sharpe:Sometimes to catch a tiger, you got to use your best goat. My best goat in this clip was what? What Sean Payton accused me of.
44:52Joe Johnson:He knew that. He knew. He knew. How do I pull him in? How do I get everybody's attention? Not only for this interview, but for others I've done in the past. Now, all eyes on me.
45:06Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
45:13Shannon Sharpe:Travis Hunter could be seeing more playing time at the wide receiver position following the Jags' week two loss to the Broncos. Jags coach Leon Coen said, anytime you struggle offensively, specifically, you look at the totality of it all. Travis is a big part of that. We're looking at finding different ways to get him involved. You're also looking at the other side of the ball. I thought he did a nice job throughout the course of the week, and we're going to look at giving him some more this week. It's a balancing act. Tough, right? No, excuse me. It's a balancing act, though, right? You're trying to get him into the flow, whether it's offense or defense.
45:50Shannon Sharpe:But we have concerns because we have a lot of confidence in him. Giving him more opportunities, Ocho, is it worth it? Is it worth taking reps away from Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., or Jacoby Myers? Football is finally back, and PrizePix is bringing out its best offer yet. 47:03Shannon Sharpe:Run your game.
47:06Joe Johnson:No, I don't think it's worth it. You have another playmaker. You have another dynamic player that can be an impact for you offensively. Those other players are very good in their own right and what they can do. But Travis Hunter is a special player, So he should be used in special ways. He can have packages where he can make a difference offensively. He's explosive. He can hit his head off the goalpost from anywhere on the field. It's just about putting him in position to be able to make those plays, being that he's a special player who's playing both ways. So I'm glad they're going to use him in that way.
47:39Joe Johnson:He almost had an interception, I think, last week, huh? Yeah, he was close. Yeah, it went right through his hands. But outside of that, I like it. I like the idea of them giving him more opportunities to play.
47:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I agree. I want to see him out there more offensively, Ankin Ocho, especially from the wide receiver side because I think he's so dynamic, not just defensively, I think offensively as well. Now, I understand that the two-way position in the NFL is a lot different, you know what I mean? But I think that young man is capable. Obviously, he's coming off an injury. So you want him to get back confident in that league and getting back out there playing and having fun and running around being rambunctious. And that's what he looked like last week. But I'm glad they expanded his role, Ocho, because I do.
48:26Shannon Sharpe:I think he's very electric, and I love seeing, you know, when they create these little opportunities for him and they put that package in for him to where he can catch passes and kind of get up and get up out of there. That's what Ocho and I said all the time. I said create packages. But if you think this man, in an NFL game, that you got the best of the best, is going to play every snap on offense and every snap on defense. Y 'all got your damn mind. But how you know, bro, he's not doing it. Because I was in the league when two of the best has ever played. Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders. And Bo just played offense.
49:02Shannon Sharpe:Bo would leave straight from the baseball field and come play football. And you wouldn't even know the man ain't had no football training or nothing. And time was the same way. Time was playing baseball and football. yeah and time offensive time could have been a hall of famer at the wide receiver position that's how talented he was we know what he was at corner yeah but if he just like focus and you know what all I want to do is play I want to play wide receiver he'd have been a hall of famer there too absolutely and he didn't play every snap he had a package that's all we said bro y 'all I don't think people really understand the difference between college and pro.
49:51Joe Johnson:No, no, probably not. I think some probably do. Some probably understand it, you know, how rigorous it is, you know, at the highest level. But I don't know.
50:05Shannon Sharpe:What do you think, Joe? Do people understand the difference between college football, I mean college basketball and pro basketball, college football in college, in pro basketball, excuse me. It's such a huge difference, Uncle Ocho, because in college, yeah, you might have a guy or two on the team who may have a child, right? Right. But in the pros, man, this is these dudes' livelihood. You know what I mean? I'm talking about guys who've been in the league seven, eight, nine, ten years. Man, you think, man, they ain't finna let these little dudes come in here and think they finna be running. None these dudes do this for a living, bro.
50:41Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah, so yeah, I think it's a huge difference. See, in college, when you come out of high school, you can go dominate college right away. Man, when you come to the pros, bro, it take a minute, man. Especially in football, hell, it take a minute before you really get going. Think about it. You're trying to dominate. See, the thing is, what they gave up for, Mocho, it's not good enough for him to play both sides. They're going to look at you at what you did in college and expect you to do what you did in college to do that in the NFL. And I told you, bro, that is not happening. So y 'all think that man's going to go out there, and be an all-pro wide receiver and be an all-pro DB.
51:16Shannon Sharpe:Because think about it. He won – what did he win? He won the – well, he was in the running for the Bolitnikoff Award and he ended up winning the Thorpe Award. He won – which one did he win? I know we know he won the Heisman, but I think he might have won the Bolitnikoff. But, I mean, I was like, guys, do y 'all understand what these – y 'all think these guys are just going to let – oh, man, that's Travis. I can't get open. Oh, that's Trav. I can't D him up. Do y 'all understand how much pride these guys have? Big time. Hey, hey, hey, but that boy Trav done put on some weight now. He done put on some muscle.
51:55Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. He look good. He look good out there.
51:58Joe Johnson:Yeah. Trying to prevent injury.
52:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. And that's a lot. I mean, people don't realize 65 NFL plays is a big difference than 65 college plays. Because you're going to run 70, 80 plays in college like nothing. Yeah. Boy, you start getting the A. You have three or four games with 80 plays in an NFL game and see what you be feeling it. Man. I don't know about you, but we played Cincinnati one year. We had 93 snaps. 93. 93. Damn. Back then? Through regulation? Through regulation, yes. Yep. That's a lot of snaps. Hell yeah. Man, I was hurting. I was like, damn. Sure don't want to go back to college now where they might have 100 snaps in a game.
52:57Shannon Sharpe:Man. About that. It's the difference between trying to talk to your friends over the music at a bar and having dinner where you can actually hear each other. 56:12Shannon Sharpe:The NFL is back. Ocho and Joe to be in the No Fun League. The league fined the Bengals wide receivers Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins over$89 ,000 for doing the Dwayne Rock Johnson, the people's elbow celebration for the Texans. Here's Chase on the fine.
56:31What do you guys do as players? Because it's clearly something that seems like it's out of your hands, but you still want to have fun. So, like, how are you balancing that?
56:40Joe Johnson:I think this is where the superstars have to get in with the NFL PA and fight for our money. Because if he's getting fined for doing a drinking gesture, a juice gesture, then, I mean, I'm getting fined for an elbow and doing a first down thing. I mean, I can't really do much about it. I mean, we can complain. I don't even think we can tweet about it because we get fined for tweeting about it. So, like, it's really like players got to keep their mouth shut and deal with it. No, you don't.
57:11Shannon Sharpe:Keep getting fined. Do it again. And do it again. $89 ,000, that's a steep note. That$5 ,000. I mean, now the fines, it seems like the fines for celebration, Ocho, they start off at$15 ,000.
57:23Joe Johnson:I ain't tripping. I wouldn't tripping. If I were playing today, I ain't tripping. The money they making? I ain't tripping. Listen, when we played in our day, the fines were based off the income that we were making. Based on the money that they're making now, inflation so the fines have increased but if I was Chase if I was T Higgins if I was Kyle use check I'd do it again I'd do it again what we talking about you ain't you only taking my money cause you think that's the only way to control me but I'm gonna show you I'm finna do what I wanna do cause you ain't finna control me twin
58:03Shannon Sharpe:hey there's plenty more they came
58:05Joe Johnson:well who you talking to Joe cause this is This ain't the only avenue of income I got coming in just because I'm playing this game.
58:14Shannon Sharpe:It's that the NFL also fired a 49ers fullback, Kyle Juszczyk, 14 ,926 for imitating Chug in a beer. Juszczyk goes by the nickname Juice, said the celebration was drinking juice, not beer. Ocho, you're the king of getting fired. Yeah.
58:32Joe Johnson:But hold on, man. Me doing too much. Hey, hold on. This is hypocrisy at its finest. I love the NFL. I love what the NFL stands for. I understand the NFL has to protect the shield and protect the brand. But what makes no sense is that the NFL also has beer commercials. We have beer commercials. So Hugh Check, what does he do? He does nickname the juice and he chugs the juice. Some would say it was a beer because that makes much more sense.
59:00Shannon Sharpe:They don't know. NFL, y 'all got to stop trying to figure out what these celebrations are. Y 'all don't know. Y 'all don't know nothing. See, y 'all think the celebration that Chase and Higgins did, y 'all think there was something you know. They think it was something else. They were doing something else. That's what they think. Y 'all don't know nothing. You don't. The owners don't know. Roger don't know. Roger, you don't know what they were doing. And you try to go to social media, you think you got some people in the social media team, they don't know.
59:32Joe Johnson:Hey, it's a little excessive, though.
59:34Shannon Sharpe:Hell, yes, excessive. It's a little excessive, but I wouldn't stop.
59:39Joe Johnson:Chase, T. Higgins, Yushek, don't let that stop you from enjoying the game and having fun. Continue to entertain. Continue to play joyful like your little kid again. This is a kid's game. This is a kid's game. You get paid a hefty ransom. Keep enjoying it. Keep enjoying it. You're finding me like a grown-ass man.
59:57Shannon Sharpe:There ain't no kids finding right there what y 'all took. $89 ,000 between two players?
1:00:01Joe Johnson:Hey, man, you know what them checks look like every Monday? Oh, I know what they look like.
1:00:08Shannon Sharpe:But it add up, though, Ocho. Hey, look, you know me, Ocho. Don't give them nothing back. You hear me?
1:00:14Joe Johnson:Hey, I'm going to get it back regardless. They can take that. So whatever you take from me, I'm going to get back tenfold. I ain't tripping. That's just the way I thought, Joe.
1:00:23Shannon Sharpe:Nah. Hey, the players got to fight that with the union or something, Ocho, too. I mean, because when you take the celebrations out of football, bro, come on, it kind of distorts, like, touchdowns. Because I love seeing when guys score and the creativeness that comes afterwards, what they come up with. You take that away or guys keep getting fined for excessive celebration. Come on, man. If you think about it, Joe and Ocho, we're the only league that baseball, they win, they celebrate. Women's basketball, WNBA, they celebrate. The NBA, they celebrate. We can't have no alcohol and we can't have no champagne.
1:00:55Shannon Sharpe:I guarantee you more money from alcohol goes to the NFL than any other league in the world. Yeah. More than MLB, more than the NBA, more than soccer, more than anywhere. But I hate, this is one thing that irks me about the league that helped make Shannon Sharp what he is. Is that I hate the holier than thou. I hate the hypocrisy in which they operate. That irks me. Yeah. Oh, so because you don't show your players drinking, do you think the fans actually think players don't drink beer? Do you actually think, oh, well, we don't show it in our locker room. We don't show it on the field. So the fans are going to think they don't drink champagne.
1:01:46Shannon Sharpe:They don't drink it. Really? Do y 'all think the fans are that dumb? Do y 'all think the fans are that naive, that gullible? That's the only thing. And the NFL has done some great things, but this is the one thing that really bothers me and annoys me about them. Why can't the WNBA, the NBA, the MLB, why can't everybody go in the locker room and celebrate except the biggest league nobody generates? Right. More revenue than the NFL. And we're supposed to win the Super Bowl and pretend like nothing happened.
1:02:26Joe Johnson:it's tough and it just makes no sense because if you watch an NFL game half the commercial Joe is about what beer advertising beer they pay a lot of money for those slots for sure they pay a lot of money for those slots because they get their money because they know
1:02:43Shannon Sharpe:how many eyeballs are watching NFL games on average per week and I guarantee you ta-da and guess what Ocho I guarantee you all 32 teams got a beer sponsor. What you want to bet?
1:02:56Joe Johnson:Hold on. What is everybody drinking at the games, huh? When you go to the concession stand. They ain't drinking water and soda.
1:03:03Shannon Sharpe:Come on, man. They charging$18 and$20 for something. Yeah. In them big-ass cups.
1:03:09Joe Johnson:Mm-hmm. But the funny thing, I understand, I can also put myself, I can almost, I can put myself in that suit and tie, in that position of power as an NFL and trying to protect the brand, trying to protect the shield and making sure I still have control of my players. I see it. I get it. I get it. But again, I'm also siding with the players. Like, come on. Enough is enough. You can't be hypocritical, especially not in a situation like this. Yeah. You can't. You can't. What's fair is fair.
1:03:40Shannon Sharpe:How much beer costs at a game? I mean, I ain't never purchased a beer. But how much beer costs at a game, Chad? I know some of y 'all go to it. I bet it's$30. I know how much hot dogs are. Man, I get a six-pack. I'll be drunk before I get to the game. $30 for a cup of beer?
1:03:58Joe Johnson:That's why they tell gay so hard. Hold on. They serious? $30 for real? Yeah. For a cup of beer?
1:04:07Shannon Sharpe:Or you're talking about a pitcher? A pitcher? You're talking about like a pitcher? No, I'm talking about$18,$20. Okay,$12,$22. $15 minimum. $20. $18. So I think somewhere between$18 and$22 bucks seems like to be the going rate. 18 to 20 bucks. Okay. That's still, hell, that's a six pack. Yeah, but if you already, if I got you in the building, huh? Hell, you gonna pay.
1:04:32Joe Johnson:You ain't got no choice. You right, you right. You right. Especially at a sporting event, we might complain about the prices. We might complain about the prices, but once we're in the building at an event, you gonna pay for it. You gonna complain, but you still gonna pay for it because you're there and you got to have your drink.
1:04:51Shannon Sharpe:And they know that. They know. But all I'm saying is that, the celebration. I mean, NFL players want to celebrate. I mean, that's a crowning achievement. And you see baseball players, they spraying each other. You see NBA, they spraying each other. Even WNBA. I'm like, man, that would be so cool. Growing up, seeing all the celebrations. I wanted to be a part of the celebration. Hello. Hello. Hey, that's crazy. Don't think for one second. We didn't celebrate that.
1:05:22Joe Johnson:Who you telling? Hey. Hey, hey, hey. You lucky. If I was chasing T, I'd come up with something else. Yeah. Hey, I'm going to keep pushing the envelope, Joe. Hey, hey.
1:05:35Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe. What? By the end of the season, how much fine money did it have been that got out of you? Me? Yeah.
1:05:41Joe Johnson:You got to think, Joe. I set a certain amount of sad for fines before the season even started because I already know what time it was.
1:05:48Shannon Sharpe:And so now in today's game, you making the money that these guys making.
1:05:53Joe Johnson:I would set money aside for the fines. So as they take the money out of my check, Joe, I take that allotment and then put it back in my account based on what comes out of my check. And by the time we got to about year six, me and Adele was on such a good rapport, like bad, bad student, and he's the principal, I started sending my money to the league office a week in advance before the game. Like to kind of piss them off. so you don't have to hear. Don't even waste your time sending me that FedEx because here go your money ahead of time. Oh man, Joe, hey, Joe, you not controlling me. You not controlling me.
1:06:28Joe Johnson:In an instruction environment, you know, I got to play within the game. You know, I never crossed the line. You know what I mean, right? Yeah, for sure. Hey, Joe, I never went over that line. I stayed right within the confines and I didn't allow them to control me, but I knew what lines not to cross.
1:06:46Shannon Sharpe:Right.
1:06:47Joe Johnson:If that makes sense.
1:06:47Shannon Sharpe:I ain't no dummy now. They just got me. I didn't get fined for celebration, Ocho and Joe. I just got fined for my outfit, my uniform. Because you know that your pants got to come below your knees and your socks got to be pulled up. Yeah. And your jersey need to be tucked in. They fined me. Like I said, you see how I covered up my shoes, Joe, because you can't have only but two colors. Like, who watching that? Who cares? Yeah. but you know you got a former player I think it was David Fulcher David Fulcher
1:07:21Joe Johnson:Fulcher where Fulcher at man give me my money back Merton Hanks you know Merton Hanks was the one I had to appeal with huh yeah hey Merton said nope man it's your third offense hey Joe depending on what color jersey we wore we wore I like my chin strap to match my jersey and my gloves yeah so we went in black jerseys Joe I changed out and put the black chin strap in We wearing orange jerseys. I changed it, put the orange chin strap in with the orange gloves and the little orange tape with the tiger stripe on it. Yeah. Yeah, man. Mert was like, come on, Ocho. Come on, man. Why do you keep doing this?
1:07:55Joe Johnson:I'm like, Mert, man, this is what I used to do in high school.
1:07:59Shannon Sharpe:And you know how to make you butt your chin strap too, Ocho. Huh? Because I used to let my chin strap flap. Why do you think my helmet kept flying off, Unc? I kept one loose too. Yeah. They'll find you for that now, Ocho.
1:08:11Joe Johnson:Yeah.
1:08:11Shannon Sharpe:Who are you trying to be like, Ocho? Prime?
1:08:15Joe Johnson:Hey, I let one hang on purpose. It was a little clip of me getting of all my hard hits. Joe, if it was like 10 plays, 8 out of 10, my helmet went flying.
1:08:27Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. They get all that. They probably get. What you think, Ocho? I think they get a couple of million dollars, maybe a little bit more in fine money. You figure 16 games a week? Somebody going to have a uniform? Somebody going to do a celebration? Somebody going to do an illegal tackle? Somebody going to do an illegal block? Oh, they're going to get, yeah, they're probably easy getting $10,$15,$20 million a year in fine money. Oh, man, easy. Think about it. In basketball, I remember us having a meeting, and they was telling us about the fine money. This was back in like 2017, 18, Uncle Ocho. They say it was about$50,$55 million in fine money just sitting there.
1:09:13Joe Johnson:Hey, what did that money go to?
1:09:14Shannon Sharpe:So imagine, 10 years, that was about a decade ago. What they did, they definitely get more than that. Because you know every week, Ocho, somebody got an illegal block. Doing something. Because if you chop block, Ocho, Joe, if you chop block somebody, that's an illegal block, they're going to fine you for that. Yep. You go helmet to helmet with somebody, they're going to fine you for that. $15 ,000. You leg whip somebody, you're going to get fined for that. $20 ,000. You illegal crack back on somebody, you're going to get fined for that. You hip drop somebody, you're getting fined for that. You hit a defensive receiver, you're fined for that.
1:09:48Shannon Sharpe:Celebration, you're fined. Where is this fine money going? Don't start me lying. Hey, Joe. That's what I'm talking about. Don't start me lying.
1:09:58Joe Johnson:I need to go down the rabbit hole, Joe, and find out where that money go, Joe. They say it goes to you. Bro, I'm telling you. They say it goes to a charity of choice. But you don't get to choose the charity? Nah, they get to choose.
1:10:12Shannon Sharpe:Exactly. Well, there ain't no charity of choice. It's my money. I should get to choose. Man, y 'all know what's going on. Huh? Yeah. But it's fine money. It used to be, I don't even think you get no more. I don't think, when I was dating, it was$5 ,000 for your uniform. I don't think they got any$5 ,000 fines anymore now. everything seemed like it started at 15 ,000. Yeah. Probably. You got to wear a mouthpiece. I think other than the quarterback, you probably have to wear a mouthpiece. But you definitely got to have that chin strap buckle because I let both of mine hang. Oh, yeah, you did have both of them.
1:10:50Joe Johnson:Yeah. I just let one hang. I wanted to be like Deion, Joe, even though I'm on offense. It just looked cool like that. I don't know why.
1:11:02Shannon Sharpe:But see, I couldn't have it tight, Joe, because I'm talking. I'm continuously talking. I need to be loose. Man, shut your punk ass up. I ain't got time to take no mouthpiece out of my mouth. I ain't got time to unbuckle my chin strap because it's, mm-mm. I ain't got time to do none of that. I'm talking out the real.
1:11:22Joe Johnson:Oh, man, those were some good days, boy. Oh, and those were some good memories.
1:11:31Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all think Matt LaFleur on the hot seat?
1:11:34Joe Johnson:Whoa, whoa, whoa. Already?
1:11:39Joe Johnson:And that's tough because being on the hot seat, most of the time, you know, players get coaches fired, huh? So what's that to say about the players that you do have? Yeah. And you have one of the better quarterbacks in the league. He's just not playing as of that just yet. And he shouldn't be having these problems. Jordan Love should be having a season similar to that of Lamar Jackson, similar to that of Josh Allen. Always having a chance. Always having something positive go right no matter what because I'll be listening. You got the ball in your hands the most out of anybody else offensively.
1:12:18Joe Johnson:We need you to get it done because we pay you to be able to do so.
1:12:24Shannon Sharpe:Drake London going to be good. He's like, yeah, I'm almost to 1 ,000 now. Drake London has more receiving yards than Justin Jefferson. Hell, he got more receiving yards. Hell, he might have more than Chase, too, after this. Hey, you heard Chase today. What do you mean? Why JSN don't be getting the coverage I be getting kicked my way? Mm-hmm. I used to make the same thing, Ocho. I'm like, man, they're letting all the other tight ends just go up and down the field, and y 'all doubling me and all this kind of foolishness.
1:12:51Joe Johnson:I talked to Chase, too, when I did the podcast the other day. I say, listen, don't even trip. Don't even trip. It's week two. Zach Taylor's not even in his creative bag and moving you around. Yeah. He ain't even moving you around like that yet, man. He ain't conditioning no splits. He ain't putting you in motion. You know, remember how we see JSN coming out the backfield?
1:13:12Shannon Sharpe:Yep.
1:13:12Joe Johnson:They got that package with Chase come out the backfield? They ain't did none of that yet. Now, you don't want to throw everything in the kitchen sink at him. So, you look at the numbers right now. I think, you know, some of the same culprits who always lead or at the top of the leaderboard in receiving yards, some of the big boys that are not in it right now. Chase, he might be, what, maybe 10, 11, 12, something like that. But the cream always rises to the top as he continues to go along.
1:13:38Shannon Sharpe:Right. I think the thing is, like, it's just JSN, man. Every game thus far, Ocho, he's had a big one. He had the 45-yarder. Then he had the 80-something-yarder. And you know, once you get that one big one, Ocho, your mind shifts. Yeah. Yeah. Boy, hey, I'm due for it. Because you got 80 yards on one catch? Yeah. Man, I get me another catch or two. That's a hundy. Yeah. Now you start thinking, Joe, now it's just like you have a big first quarter, Joe. You get twinning the first. Man, you're like, shh. Boy, there's a 50-piece all over it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's the rhythm in, like, football, huh?
1:14:19Shannon Sharpe:Like, if you catch one early. What? Everything probably starts to get a little easy for you, don't it? All I'm trying to do is say, hey, just catch everything. Because now I already know I got eight. I really ain't trying to do anything extra because I already got this one. Now they just add up. Now you got 82. Now you got one for 11. You got one for seven. Now you got another for 20. You look up before you know, you're like, damn.
1:14:46Joe Johnson:I got seven for a buck, 74? Hey, you think about it too, Unc? He can go on a two-game stretch and go a plumb fool. Hey, Joe, I had a stretch one time, just two games, Joe. I had one game for 260. I came back the following week and had 190. Yeah. So that's almost 500 right there.
1:15:05Shannon Sharpe:Almost 500 right there. Out of the gate. So you already say, Waddell, I'm always halfway to 1 ,000 in two games. That's crazy. That's exactly how you look at it. That's exactly how you look at it. The Packers are 1-2 rushing yards tonight. I think Embassin. 194. Brian Robinson Jr., 50. The Packers, 17 yards. The Packers, fewest rushing yards in a game this century.
1:15:36Hold on.
1:15:37Shannon Sharpe:We got to get the Falcons some credit, though, defensively now. They were getting to it.
1:15:42Joe Johnson:They were playing. Hey, CJ Henderson. Is that the same CJ Henderson that was at the Jaguars? The first round pick. I think he went to the Jags, Ocho. Went to Florida, right?
1:15:50Shannon Sharpe:Yes.
1:15:50Joe Johnson:Okay, okay, okay. Yeah, he was playing really well. He played the ball to that, yeah. Yeah, he was playing really well.
1:15:56Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey, hey, when you're on that defensive front, boy, you got to have some Mr. Miyagi in you, huh? Some wax on, wax on. Oh, yeah, oh, yeah. You got to have everything. Oh, yeah. Them boys. Hey, your handwork got to be on point, Joe. Them boys ain't playing, boy. You talking about some hand fighting and wrestling? Hey, man, you got to have technique, boy. Yeah, absolutely. Because the thing is, you got to play on edges. You don't want the guy to square you up Ocho he's just only 27 years of age Wait That's it? That's it Okay But you know he started his career In Jacksonville Yeah I remember that Then he went to Carolina
1:16:42Shannon Sharpe:Now he's an Now he's an ATL But the Falcons get a big victory tonight 35-14 over the Packers. You know, the Packers thought they were going to win. You see how they brought the team up? They brought the 60th anniversary Super Bowl team. They brought the 96 TAA. Like, yeah, we're going to go and get this. We're going to get y 'all out of the way. First of all, you're trying to get it out of the way because the older guys, man, they don't do that cold too well. Cold well. So you don't want them guys, you know, saying you don't want them guys trying to go out there. It's 30 degrees, 20 degrees. So, you know, we're going to get it out of the way.
1:17:15Shannon Sharpe:We got the Falcons on the schedule. This will be a great game. They ain't going to win. Old time will see a win. Falcon's here. Mm-mm. Hey, it's like somebody booking you for their homecoming. They tried to book the Falcon for their homecoming. Yeah. That's exactly how they do it. All right, guys.
1:17:36Shannon Sharpe:Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had to educate a local beat reporter on the meaning of the word proceed. Take a listen. You say perceived pressure. What does that mean? Perceived pressure is perceived pressure. Yeah.
1:17:52Joe Johnson:Does that mean that you feel it or does that mean that it's external?
1:17:55Shannon Sharpe:I mean, it's perceived. You guys haven't seen the commanders. Isn't that like a like the root word for perception in some regard? Perception by those who are watching. I'm not watching. 1:19:20Shannon Sharpe:Get him, Jay. Okay, Jay. He's like, no, that's what perceive means. It's perception. You might perceive it. I don't perceive that. I ain't say nothing about that. That's what you said. Yeah, because you the one watching, so you perceive. That I feel what you think I should feel.
1:19:35Joe Johnson:Yeah, right, because you ain't in the shoes that I'm in. I'm out there in the field, Uncle Joe. You hear me? Hello. I don't feel no pressure. This is what I do. This is my job. I've been doing this since I was four years old. Huh? What we talking about?
1:19:53Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it's probably not pressure, Uncle Ocho. But you know how it is, man, before a game. You know, I don't know about y 'all, but I always got like a little butterfly feeling. Oh, I do. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think that's not, yeah, yeah, yeah. Not that I was scared, but it kind of let me know that I was in the moment. I was preparing myself. You know what I mean? So I kind of get it. I get it.
1:20:15Joe Johnson:I'm with you when you're right, Joe. Hey, before kickoff, man, butterflies going through your stomach, Joe.
1:20:21Shannon Sharpe:Yes, sir.
1:20:22Joe Johnson:Boy.
1:20:23Shannon Sharpe:Man, I just couldn't stop peeing.
1:20:25Joe Johnson:That feeling don't go away until you get me. What?
1:20:27Shannon Sharpe:Man, I pee by 50. From the time I get to the stadium until the time to kickoff, I probably pee by 20 times. Hey, I'm super scared, huh? with anxiety yeah man every time and all of a sudden you know as I got started to get older and older I'm like man yeah maybe it's time for me to hang it up yeah I ain't I ain't anxious as I was you still had to go to the bathroom like that as you got older not as much I started I probably still had to go by 10 but early in my career Joe it didn't matter how much I drank. And then I go run down and one time I'll kick off and lock up, cramp.
1:21:13Shannon Sharpe:Because I'm trying not to drink because I don't want to go to the bathroom like that. The worst thing you can do is have to go to the bathroom and I think for the most part, Ochoa, I know we used to have to go, we go pee in bag. They put guys come stand around and go on a bag right on the sideline. That was me right there by the Gatorade, yeah. Damn. Oh, yeah, man. Hey, Joe, right. See, y 'all got to run to the back, Joe. We ain't got no time to run to the back. Something might happen. Yeah. Yeah. Now, now, look, look. Soon as the ref throw the ball up for a jump ball, Uncle Ojo, when that happen, I'm ready.
1:21:51Shannon Sharpe:I'm locked down. I don't care what happened. All I need is about one half a trip up and down the court. I'm ready to go. You locked in, Joe? Ready to go. Ready to go.
1:22:00Joe Johnson:Hey, boy. Hey, them butterflies. One no joke, bro.
1:22:03Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but I needed to feel – I've always been like that. Yeah. I mean, even in high school, I was always like that. College, I was like – and even though, you know, you get to the high level, you're like, man, you done done this before. And I'm saying to my – I'm not nervous. I'm joking and carrying on like I normally would. Right. But it just – my body like, bro. But I ain't like them other guys be throwing up. And, I mean, you know, I'm like, oh, man, I used to hate. is them offensive linemen, man. They be throwing up in the... Before the game. Yeah. And you hear it's natural reflect.
1:22:42Shannon Sharpe:Somebody start... Did your stomach start? Did you start? I'm saying, but what make them throw up though before the game? Routine, Joe. They just routine. Yeah, they got to do it. Oh, yeah.
1:22:58Shannon Sharpe:Hey. We had a guy rest his soul. Darren Drozdorf he could throw up on command what ooh he's in the game throw up on the center hand oh what
1:23:20Shannon Sharpe:ain't no tell Joe it's different football and basketball and baseball that thing is entirely entirely different bro throwing up Okay, Ocho, that's like, you know what I mean? It feel like your inside coming out when you... Ah, no, sir. Ain't no telling. What's in there, too, Joe? Dude! And then, hey, and you know it's coming on that... Your mouth start to water? Ooh! You're like, ooh, let me go.
1:23:51Shannon Sharpe:Hey, you ain't lying, boy. You can't stop it. Huh? I done had some long nights, Ocho, boy. That mouth get watery. Oh, whoa, whoa. on the way. Somebody said he was doing it because he turned out to be a professional wrestler. He was a professional wrestler. Somebody said he was doing that in the WWE wrestling. Yeah, he could. He could just throw up on command.
1:24:17Shannon Sharpe:You got all different. See, the thing here, Joe, y 'all only got 15 guys. We got 53, Ocho. We got 53, and they so different. From 1 to 53, ain't no telling what you're going to get in between. Oh, yeah. Damn.
1:24:35Shannon Sharpe:No, sir. But let me ask you this. Does it seem like the tension between quarterbacks and reporters are becoming at an all-time high? Yes. Considering the fact that, you know, I think the quarterback makes so much money nowadays that the reporter, that's the first guy who they're going to talk to because they know his voice carries. It carries throughout the team. And them sound bites that they get from these quarterbacks, Uncle Ocho, that's what's going to make the headline. That's what's going to pop. So, yeah, these reporters, they're going to antagonize some of these quarterbacks, bro, at the games asking rhetorical questions that they already know the damn answer to.
1:25:12Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? So, yeah, it's going to happen.
1:25:15Joe Johnson:I think it's a little different, too, most of the time, especially quarterbacks that aren't playing well right now. I think reporters are a little bit more comfortable antagonizing, like Joe said, attacking in a sense, trying to get them to get out of character so they can have a soundbite, so they can have something to talk about and also get their name out there. Also get their name out there. I think some of them outside of just being a journalist and writing and doing your due diligence as a reporter, I think some of them are looking for more than just that.
1:25:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
1:25:50Joe Johnson:Which is why they do some of the things that they do do.
1:25:54Shannon Sharpe:and the quarterback is what he's the face of your franchise okay Ocho so yeah he's going to get the bulk of the damn question it's just how it goes and he normally probably they have the day where they talk to the media it's either Wednesday or Thursday they talk to the media and you know but they ought to give up by now they know his blood pressure don't even get above don't even get above 120 over 70. He just even keeled. I mean, I'm watching. You can't tell if he got 200 yards, if he got 300 yards passing or he got negative 50. You can't tell the difference. Always the same. He always the same.
1:26:39Shannon Sharpe:And I think that's a good thing. I think, you know, he don't get too high. He doesn't get too low. Nothing moves him off his spot. Everybody can't be like that. I agree. I think it makes you more dangerous that way. You keep people off balance. They never know what you're thinking, whether it's the defense, you know what I mean, or whoever. But I think when guys move like that, they're very strategic in how they move. Uncle Ocho, considering the fact that Jalen Hurts is a champion, hey, man, he looked at stuff right in the eyes. You hear me? He faced every challenge that comes his way, bro. He ain't tripping.
1:27:16Shannon Sharpe:I love listening to the young man talk.
