In short

Best-of-NFL-News discussion focused on (1) Eagles fans booing/pressuring for Jalen Hurts to be benched for Sam Howell after turnovers and losses, (2) Tony Jefferson’s Ravens defensive takeaways from beating the Eagles, and (3) debate over Cleveland’s QB situation and whether Kevin Stefanski is being undermined in a “circus” environment.

Guests

Tony Jefferson, former NFL safety (Ravens). He describes retiring from playing, moving into Ravens scouting, then un-retiring after feeling his “juices” return; he cites Liz Frank injury history and film-grind experience. Other voices are hosts (Shannon Sharpe and Ocho Cinco) plus NFL-news commentary.

Key claims

Eagles offense has strong tendencies and is matchup-driven, making defense easier to game plan; Hurts’ injury (broken non-throwing hand) showed toughness and should not justify benching. Cleveland’s QB/roster decisions feel chaotic; Stefanski may have limited control due to upper-management/ownership preferences.

Notable examples

Jefferson references his 4-interception season (including a game-winning INT vs Hurts) and Ravens defensive coaching (Justin Minter, secondary coaches). Cleveland debate includes Shadour Sanders vs other QBs and the idea that players can drive coaches out.

2:39Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, we got a very special guest joining us. He had the game winning interception of Jalen Hurst on Monday night football. Tony Jefferson in year 11. He had four interceptions matching his career total across the previous 10 seasons. Hey, I mean, is it a different type of glove? I mean, you get LASIK surgery, you wear glasses. How do you have as many interceptions in one season with four games to play that you had the previous 10 seasons when you played 170 games? It's that experience, man. Okay, okay. Putting myself in the right position, you know, game-planted, more mature mentally as a football player.

3:25and, you know, when you've seen it all, man, like, you recognize stuff, like, a lot quicker. So I think that's really what it's been, bro, to be honest with you. Hey, when I think about a team, you know, looking at you guys defensively, if I'm not mistaken, you guys are ranked maybe, I think maybe fourth statistically. What do you credit, you know, for you guys' success on defense in the way you guys are playing this season? I think it starts from the top. I think it starts from coaching. I think the game plan every week starts from Justin Minner and then trickling down to our secondary coaches.

4:07Coach Klink and Coach Fuller, really, they just invest. Really, you can tell they put their all into the game plan and make it simple for us. You know, each week is different. It's always a different challenge each week, and I think they give us the right tools that fit us. And, you know, they also give us the freedom to allow us to make the calls that we feel like is best as players out there that fits us too. So just being out there comfortable, bro.

4:39Shannon Sharpe:Right, that's dope. That's dope. Let me ask you, hold on. In May of 2023, you're like, okay, I'm going to retire and I'm going to go into the scouting department with the Ravens. Then you un-retire. What went into the decision? You're like, you know what, I think it's time for me to transition and do something else. Was your body beat up or you just felt like I'm just tired of doing this, getting up, putting my body through this, training every day, and then you un-retired. What went into those two decisions to make you retire and then un-retired? Well, the decision to retire, honestly, I had Liz Frank, and I was playing in New York.

5:20yeah and I had a big sprain and I don't know if anybody that is it's one of the most painful injuries to have I didn't get the surgery I played I missed nine games I played through it and I was like there's no way I can go into next season and like feel like the player that I feel like I could be so um I had already had conversations with Eric DeCosta the GM with the Ravens and uh yeah we talked about it as even as a player about me you know wanting to get into scouting and get into the front office post football. So I already had that lined up and I felt like it was a good and easy transition for me to be able to do that.

6:00And, you know, so I went into that. And as you know, as a scout, you're grinding a lot of film. All you're doing is watching.

6:09Shannon Sharpe:That's all you do. All day. And the more I was watching film, the grinding film, I'm like, okay, I'm better. I know I'm better than this dude.

6:23Shannon Sharpe:you watching film with guys you know you better than like hold on he should be doing this i should be doing what he doing exactly and then me just being me still just being around the game like and a bunch of my former teammates were on the team so like i'm still around them right yet i'm working in the front office so it was like man i'm still around it like we had went to the afc championship that year against the Chiefs. And then my juices were still going and they were flowing. You know, I would be going on the field pregame and I'm like sizing up the other team. Like I still had that in me.

6:58So, you know, I went to the senior bowl as a scout and I was there. I came back home and I was like, I hit up the gym with the race. I'm like, yeah, I'm done. I'm done. I went home, started training. Rest is history. Yeah. Yeah.

7:14Shannon Sharpe:That's dope, man. Can I ask you this, Tony? And you don't have to, like, jump on it. But I'm like, when you guys look at the Eagles offense, obviously there are some things that you saw that you could take advantage of. When you looked at this offense, what is it that you felt most comfortable? What were you trying to do? Because other than that big long run that Saquon had, you guys did a pretty good job of bottling him up. What was your game plan? Was it like, okay, we got to make Jalen throw from the pocket. We want to push him one way or another. Is there anything in particular that you can divulge that you guys, okay, we got a bead on him.

7:50Shannon Sharpe:We think we know what he's going to do, and let's force him to play to a chance. Yeah, I think honestly, I just felt like, like I said before, from the standpoint of game planning, I felt like we felt comfortable with the matchups that we had, that they were a matchup-driven offense. Obviously, they want to get the run game going with Saquon. obviously he deserves that respect but we felt like we were ready for that and then when we felt like we were able to get the run stopped we were ready for Jalen to throw the ball, we liked our matchups I mean we had we had a few picks, few interceptions we were just confident out there and like we always say like we're the wrong team you want to play on primetime like we're ready check the record yeah Yeah.

8:42And you know, T, I also have another question for me watching at home. I tell Uncle all the time and people in the chat that are watching, I'm sure those who have been around the game for a very long time. Is it me? And I don't I don't mean I'm not trying to bash the Eagles because I like the Eagles, you know, especially offensively and what they what they do on defense. But is it me or is the offense very predictable based on what they're doing, based on alignments, based on down and distance? isn't it for you? Doesn't it make your job a little bit easier based on what you see on film week to week in the game that you watch that they played previously?

9:14They show the same exact thing where it's almost, well, goddamn, I just watched this. I just watched this two days ago in here, coming here, coming again. That same short motion coming in to go out or going out to come in. I agree with what you're saying. I think they have very strong tendencies

9:35to be

9:36Shannon Sharpe:Oh, you mean to tell me they're going to throw A.J. that goal ball on here on the left side? Would he two yards? Oh, no, man. Go ahead. You go. I will say politically correct. You know, they are very strong. Have very strong tendencies. And that's something, like I said, like I feel like we do a great job of game planning and really understanding the tendencies. And it trickles down from the top and lets us play fast.

10:07Shannon Sharpe:Your quarterback breaks a bone in his non-throwing hand. He has surgery. I think it's Monday. And then he's going to have to wear a plate. And he comes back. What type of energy, what type of juice did that bring? Knowing a guy just had surgery. He's a quarterback. He's not going to be able to do the typical handoff going to the right. He got a backhanded with his right hand. Because he can't open his hand and close his hand like he normally would with his left hand. What did that mean? I mean, to have your quarterback knowing that, man, this Joker just had surgery like a week ago and he's out here on the football field and you know how physically demanding and how mentally tough you got to be to play this game.

10:50I mean, I just start off with, I remember seeing him when it happened in the game. I saw it happen to hit the dude's helmet and he's doing this. I'm like, uh-oh. And he still finished and completed the game. So there, off rip, I'm like, man, like, that's my QB, man. And then come to find out he gets surgery on, I believe, Monday. And dude was out at practice on, like, Wednesday. Like, all right, what are we doing? I'm like, you know, he's got his glove on and, like, slinky. I'm like, bro, you know what? Like, that right there is just, like, it, like, motivates you, especially as a defense. It's like, okay, bro, like, our QBs out here, like, Like, literally with one hand, willing to fight and die on the field for us.

11:37Like, it's really something that, like, resonates with you as a defenseman. I know specifically for us, like, we really took that serious and to heart.

11:48Shannon Sharpe:You know what? I don't think there's a better person to ask than you. What is the biggest difference between Jim and John Harbaugh, our coaching style? Coaching styles, to be honest, they're really similar. I think like both of them are just like pure football guys. Like it's everything is football. You know what I'm saying? If you go up to coach Jim and you ask him, you're like, hey, coach, what's up? He'll say football. Like life to him, their whole family is about football. And I respect that. I respect it. They're about winning. They take winning serious. And at the same time, they're player coaches.

12:28like I love both of them Jim Harbaugh my current head coach coming out of high school that was my very first offer he was at Stanford I went to a full contact camp because I didn't do none of the 7-on-7s and shorts back then if it wasn't a full contact camp I wasn't going like that's how I wanted to go and me and Harbaugh we connected that way because he felt the way I played like we've always just been fans of each other So I think they're both similar personality-wise. I think I always say John's more a little like this a lot more, and Jim's more like this. So, you know, that's really the difference between them.

13:13Shannon Sharpe:I'm looking at your last four games. Yeah. You're at the Chiefs this week in Kansas City. Then you go to Cowboys at Dallas. Then you get to Texans, and you know what their defense represents. And then for the division, this might be for the division, the Broncos at home. You got the gauntlet. You guys basically, you win this division, you would have earned it. Yeah. Yeah. No doubt. No doubt about it. Obviously, this weekend, like, we know we're going to get the best. The Chiefs, we are not fooled, you know. We understand, you know, their season up and down. I was born. You can deal the death blow.

13:54Shannon Sharpe:you can do something that nobody's ever been able to do since my home has been well they had last time they didn't make the playoffs and god knows when but they've been to the amc championship every year that my home's been a starter not only can you not make sure that you can make sure they don't even make the playoff there's no chance for them to get to the amc championship game a lot of teams are counting on you tony to deal that death blow we know we know we're gonna get their best shot. So, you know, then we go to Dallas and then we're at home against the Texas. We need that. We need that.

14:30Get back. We don't have that last year in the playoffs. Ready for that one too. But yeah, we're ready. We're ready. We're looking at tops. We're ready to go play. Like we're motivated. We're playing good ball right now. Just got to keep it rolling. Yeah. You guys are playing good ball on both sides of the ball. Obviously, your quarterback just has to be consistent. going on the back end of the season, going to the playoffs, you have a superb chance to win the division. And then probably the division game is going to be based on that last game against the Broncos and how well you guys play and do.

15:02And, I mean, shit, man, y 'all boys balling, man. Y 'all boys balling. I get a joy out of watching you guys play, not even offensively, seeing what you guys do defensively, you know. Even though I was a receiver, I'm a huge fan of back-end play. Like, safeties, DBs, and just understanding and knowing what I'm watching and what you guys are doing and what everybody's responsibility is. So it's been a joy to watch all y 'all boys play. Appreciate that. Appreciate that. The rule. Yeah.

15:30Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, y 'all got y 'all got y 'all inside backers. They're a little undersized. But, boy, they suck. Henley and Pearman. Oh, they're moving. And we know what Khalil Mack is. Khalil Mack, if you need him to set the edge, he can set the edge. You want him to bull, he can bull. You want him to rib, you want him arm over, arm under, he can do all that. What's 45? What's that? He's a mowing on the other side. Yeah, man. Hey, Tooby's so gangster, bro. I love Tooby, bro. If I'm in a bar fight, I want Tooby. I want Tooby with me.

16:07Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, man. That's live. Well, hey, Tony, congratulations, man, on everything. Hey, you made the right decision. Because here's the thing. You're going to have other opportunities. to be a scout. You don't get another whole lot of opportunities. I mean, you're not going to get that Phillip Rivers treatment. You're not going to get 44. They're going to call your ass to come play safety, okay? So you make sure you get all of that out of your system because you're never going to find another job to replace what it's like to have that camaraderie in the locker room, on the plane, on the bus, on the practice field.

16:39Shannon Sharpe:So you make sure this time you get all of that out of your system because you might not be as fortunate to get that call back to come back and play it again, man. But congratulations on having a great season. Stay healthy. And we look forward to talking to you down the road. Hey, T, do me a favor. Hey, do me a telltale Quentin Johnston. Tell him I say, keep that shit going. Finish the season off strong, man. Keep that shit going, man. And keep that confidence high. I'm going to relay that. Good looking. All right, y 'all. Love. Appreciate it, man. Thanks. Copenhagen's spit-free packs American-grown tobacco into pouches.

19:46Shannon Sharpe:So the Eagles positivity rabbit makes a quick exit via Jeff McClain. The Philadelphia inquire the inflatable rabbit that was installed last week to bring good vibes to Eagle locker room has been removed. The Eagles lost two charges in the first and only game playing with the rabbit in the house. Joe, you ever do some things like this in the locker room to help you break a losing the street. Nah, not that I could think of. Not that I could think of. But you got to get that up out of there, boy. Hey, that was a tough. He lost. You got to go, bro. Yeah. So they going to blame it on the rabbit? They blame it on the rabbit.

20:21Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. You got to blame somebody. I mean, hey, Ocho, what do you care for good luck? A rabbit's foot. They got a whole big ass rabbit in there that ain't break us no luck. You got to go. Yep. My brother, we went to the fair, and my brother run a rabbit's foot. You used to have rabbit foot key change, Joe. You remember that, Joe? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember that. Yeah, yeah. And my brother run a rabbit foot key change. And my grandma took it and put the house keys on it. I'm like, I don't know why we got a house key. Ain't nobody going to bring it in here. I mean, ain't nobody going to bring it here.

20:57Shannon Sharpe:Trust me. One time the robber did bring it in the house. We robbed him. Get your broke ass up out of here. I mean, they ain't even get a thing of chance, though, guys. I mean, one week? Now, when you lose like that, I don't know. Y 'all know. Hey, hey, something gots to go. Hey, same thing with the Ravens. You see they took all them TVs out, ping pong machine, pop a shot. They better put them back in there because they ain't been losing. Hey, they won a couple of games. They've been losing ever since. Put them back in there. As a matter of fact, bring some new ones. Y 'all keep them old ones out, but bring some new ones.

21:37And let you know, that stuff ain't got nothing to do with nothing.

21:40Shannon Sharpe:Man, look here, man. We had a situation where we, I think we lost, this was 94? 94. I think we started the season 0-4. Damn. Man, Joe, Ocho, we come to work. Yeah. On Wednesday, everybody got a piece of rope about this long hanging in their locker. Just hold on to the rope, guys. It's going to get better. Hey, Tico, when you're getting embarrassed, you got to find a way to shake things up, man. You got to find a way to shake things up and try to get back on track. That's the hardest part. Boy, you go on a losing streak, it seems like you can't get off it. You can't. It's the same thing with a winning streak.

22:18Shannon Sharpe:You see, like, when you go on a winning streak, you can't lose. Hey, you kick a walk-off field goal, you block a field goal, you do something. A pass interference call to keep a drive alive, Now you're able to run out the clock. Oh, Joe, get something. But when you lose, you're like, damn. Yeah, and it's funny too, Uncle Joe, when you're winning, for some reason, luck is always on your side. Because if you're going to win consistently, you need a little bit of luck. Obviously, preparation is one thing. But for some reason, everything always seemed to go right. The ball always bounces your favor, or the ball always bounces your way.

22:55But when you're losing, you don't want to talk to nobody. Nope.

23:00Shannon Sharpe:Hell no. What we talking about? Man, listen. I know that feeling. I promise you. Boy, when I first got here to Atlanta, Uncle Ocho, we started off. In 2005, when I first got here to Atlanta. Yeah, it was bad. Man, we started off 3-28. Damn, Joe. What? We started off 3-28. Man, y 'all could have used me back then, Joe. Boy, listen. Uncle Ocho, I wasn't even eating. I'm coming home going right to sleep. I don't want to hang out. I don't want to do nothing. I can't even enjoy myself. When you lose it like that, you can't enjoy yourself. You know what happened, Joe? Somebody see you out, that's why you lose it.

23:38Shannon Sharpe:You need to have your ass out in the playbook. Damn, bro, I can't get no food. I'm like, bro, I got it. Damn. Right. Hey. I'm in Black Eyed Pea. You don't want to see nobody or nothing. It's hard, man. Yeah. And don't go to no club. Oh, man. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Man. If you lose, can you imagine now? Because it ain't like it is now. I mean, I don't know. Maybe they still do it. Maybe they still, you know, guys. They see a guy at the club. And it's like, that's why y 'all lose your ass in the club all the time. Right. But it probably now, if you're at the club, they probably put that thing on social media, Joe.

24:20Shannon Sharpe:I mean, now you got social media. You got platform where people see you out. Yeah, take a picture. Yeah! The world's small now. You can't do nothing, man. I'm talking about nothing. Somebody always watching. You're right. Somebody's always watching, bro. Hey, man, let me tell you what happened to me today, Joe. Oh, Joe. Uh-oh. I started to film this. Look at Joe. You hear Joe back there laughing.

24:46So I go down.

24:47Shannon Sharpe:Shelly ordered me an Uber. I go down. The guy's like, Miss Davis. I was like, yeah, that's me. I go get an Uber. We about 15 minutes here. Jordan called. Hey, boss, you got the wrong car. I said, nah, he said Miss Davis. A minute later, dispatch called. He's speaker. You picked up the wrong, you picked up the wrong, you picked up the wrong passenger. Passage, yeah. Such and such. I was like, he said Miss Davis. No, there was another Miss Davis. There was two Miss Davis. Wow. Ocho, how about this mofo pull side the road and put me right out on Santa Monica? Man, get out of here. For real? I swear to God.

25:31Shannon Sharpe:And you got out? I ain't got no choice. But why didn't he take you back to the hotel? Man, I was closer to where I needed to be than driving me all the way back to the hotel. Oh, so you walked where you had to go? Nah, Shelly called me another Uber. Wow. He would have had to drop me off, man. You got me messed up. Nah, man. They got recorded in there. And plus, I'm on probation right now. So I had to be on my best behavior. OK, I got you. I got you. I got you. Because I was like, boy, I was like, I said, man, just drop me off right here. He said, I can't take you no further. I was like, bro, I looked at the GPS.

26:10Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, we like, it's going to take him 20 minutes to get back to the hotel. It's going to take him seven minutes to drop me off. I said, just tell her to get into the Uber that was for me. Right. She didn't want to do that. Oh, so she wanted him. Okay. So man put inside the roll. Hey, you really ain't got no apps on your phone, do you? I don't. No, no, no. Shelly or Jordan. Like Jordan, Jordan, have a time and he knows like after a certain time we about to wrap up, he'll call the Uber. They give us 15 minutes to get out there. And so once we take the picture, I mean, the thing, but I don't. Oh, let me tell you about us.

26:55Shannon Sharpe:Look at Joey laughing. He just laughing. So you know, in room dining thing, they don't let you call dining or the room service no more. You got to scan the QR code with your phone. Yeah. So I said, man, Ocho said, I don't know how to do nothing. Man, I done booked me a two night stay at the hotel.

27:18Shannon Sharpe:That was Joey laughing. Shelly called me, say, why you book two nights at the hotel? I said, I ain't book no two nights at the hotel. I ordered breakfast. She said, you ain't order no damn breakfast. You got a king suite for two nights next week. I said, Ocho, I thought I ordered me an egg sandwich and some orange juice. Hell no.

27:43Shannon Sharpe:Now you see why I don't be fooling with them abs, Ocho. Because all my money, I be done spent$200 ,000 on a flower arrangement. That's why I don't fool with it. You got to be a little tech savvy, man. We got to send you to a class, man. Nah, that's what Jordan here for. Jordan went to class. OK. Man, I was like, man, this joker put me out. This joker pulled right to the side. I said, man, Ocho, he stopped in the middle of the road. I said, my man, can you pull like right over to the side? Man, damn. That's not the unk I know. Because the unk I know wouldn't get down no car. Hey, he ain't got something.

28:24Shannon Sharpe:Hey, he ain't got something, Ocho. Ocho, they got you more to buy. Now they got you more. Now you know, hey. Yeah. Hey, hey, you know, if I want no pro, I'm on probation, Ocho. Right, I got you. I'm trying to make it to 26. I'm trying to make it to 26 with no mishaps. Yeah, but you can't let people just take advantage of you like that, unk. That's all right. I get on out. Yeah, yeah, hey, the devil work. Yeah, gone. Yeah, he tried to get me. Remember, Ocho? I said, patience. I said, patience. I need patience. He ain't going to give it to you. He's going to put you in situations that require it.

28:53Shannon Sharpe:Hello. Hello. Now you talking now. Yeah, I said, OK. I'm going to get out. I'm going to get out now. But you sure lucky caught me in 24. I got out, but not after I tore your ass up.

29:12Shannon Sharpe:man I said man I had a day to day I done got put out of Uber and I done ordered two nights and all I tried to get was a breakfast sandwich and some orange juice and I got a two nights day at the hotel did they charge you for canceling your two nights day yeah cause I booked it for next week they need that cancellation fee they need that they ain't get no cancellation fee as many nights as I stay here. In Jordan, I stay here. Man, sometimes we were staying here like four, five nights in a row. Okay. Nah. But I said, boy, I had me a day today. I said, damn. 32:57Shannon Sharpe:Jayla Hurst had five turnovers on Monday, and the last came in overtime to lose the team's third straight game. Booze were also heard during the team's Black Friday home loss to the Bears, and it doesn't take long for discontent among football fans to move to the cause to make a quarterback change. A change in Philly would involve moving Tanner McKee or Sam Howell into the starting lineup, but Nick Serriano made it clear this morning that's not something that's entertained by the team. I think that's ridiculous. I know every time I go out on the field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game.

33:32Shannon Sharpe:That's something that's been proven. We won a lot, a lot of football games. Ocho? Yeah. That's a bunch of – You see how they turn on the man? You see how they play games? Things not going well. You got a quarterback that's been to the Super Bowl twice. He's been to the Super Bowl twice, and he's won one. He just won last year. It ain't even been six, seven months. It ain't even been six, seven months since he won his last Super Bowl. Now things aren't going well. You ready to jump ship. You ready to jump ship until I change it to another quarterback that is nowhere near as talented and gifted as the one you got right now and think things are going to change because you switched quarterbacks.

34:11Come on now. Come on now.

34:13Shannon Sharpe:All I know is those same fans that was booing called Cam crazy, called Cam everything but a child of God. When Cam said what he said earlier this year, You remember Ocho, how they jumped on it with both feet? Yeah, yeah, they was on top of him. Hey, listen. Pulling his hair, everything. Yeah, I know Philly fans, they don't play. Look, they got a Super Bowl. And I get it, Philly fans, they're hardcore. They love their Eagles, blah, blah. I get all that. Bro, y 'all better enjoy this. Yeah. Y 'all make it seem like y 'all just been winning forever. I mean, yeah, you went to the Super Bowl. You went to the Super Bowl in the 80.

34:58Shannon Sharpe:Juan Jaworski, and you got beat by the wild card Raiders. And you went again with Donovan, and then you got beat by the Eagles. You went back with Nick Foles, and you won. You went back with Jalen, and you lost. You go back again, and you win. Bro, it's hard to win in this league. See, what has happened, Ocho, you know what has happened? The Patriots and the Chiefs got people thinking, winning every year, winning the division every year, going to the playoffs, and going to the Super Bowl, that's easy. No. That ain't easy. At all. They made it look easy now. Yes! They did do. They made it look easy.

35:32So they're thinking it's possible for everyone else to do it. No! Coming off a Super Bowl win, man, the chance that you're actually repeating is extremely hard.

35:41Shannon Sharpe:Because you play the toughest schedule every year. You get division winners every year. You already play your division. now you're going to play your division winners and now you're going to play another division so this year they played the AFC West the Chargers, the Broncos, the Raiders and the Chiefs next year who knows it might be the South it might be the North you might have to play the Steelers that might have been two years ago they played the Steelers but anyway you're going to have to play another no bro for them to even suggest such foolishness. Hey, you know that's how I start though, man.

36:25Yeah. It's coming from somewhere. The call and the knock always come from inside the house. Always.

36:34Shannon Sharpe:Man, man. Ocho, they better sit down and enjoy this. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. The devil you know is better than the one you don't. Oh, that's a good one. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I mean, look. I get it. You see Josh Allen and you see Mahomes. You see Matthew Stafford and oh, that's what I want. I want that. I want that. I want that. Okay. What you said? The devil you know is better than the one you don't? Exactly. That's a good one. I'm going to use that in my next argument. Why you getting the argument? You be looking to argue. Yeah, so I can use your quotes. What else am I going to use? Don't be using it.

37:21Shannon Sharpe:Man, Ochoa, don't be bringing me your foolishness. He can't help it. He can't help it. Man, look here. Me and Camote, we got along great. We had us a great old time. We was talking, laughing. You know, she was having a good time. She was like, oh, yeah, okay. How you doing? Yeah, blah, blah, blah. But I need to be able to hit her with these quotes. And I like to sound like Confucius. at times like that. You be sounding like confusion. Why don't you just be right? Why don't you just do the right thing? Why you got to buck so much? Well, sometimes it's always good to go right, but sometimes I like to go left.

37:57Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You see what I'm saying, Joe? He like to be a little combative. You got to keep everything balanced, Joe. No, Joe. Don't you like peace? I mean, hold on. I saw somebody say they've been in a relationship for like 10 years and they've really never had an arc. Oh, was that George Clooney? George Clooney said he'd been married to him and his wife and never had an argument. I heard Taylor, excuse me, Kelsey on his pod say him and Taylor really never had no diss. Oh, that's what I want. Hey, hey. Don't you want that stuff, man? They just be saying stuff. You know, the camera there, people going to see it.

38:32And man, everybody's not in my mind.

38:34Shannon Sharpe:I mean, because sometimes you leave a dish in the sink when you could have put it in a dishwasher. You left something on the floor when you could have put it up in the basket. I get it, yeah. Yeah, it's hard to not have no disagreement. That's that's that's I mean zero. I'm talking about zero disagreement. Oh, you know that ain't true. You know that ain't true. And that no disrespect to them. Like, come on now. You ain't got to even pull the wool away. You ain't got a lot of us. Nah, you ain't got a lot of us. So y 'all say it ain't possible. It ain't possible to be in a relationship and not argue.

39:05Not have a disagreement. A disagreement? You know, it hasn't been. OK, OK, OK. And most disagreements turn to a verbal altercation. It happens.

39:17Shannon Sharpe:Nah, not necessarily. Because here's the thing. Because here's the joke. What happens? Let's just say for this. This is how it happens. Okay, you right. Oh, you right. Oh, you just don't care. You just said I right just to shut me up. No, you're right. No, I ain't right. What have I been right before? You normally got something to say. I'm saying you right. I was wrong. Oh, now you wrong. You ain't been wrong before. So now. Okay, you're right. You're wrong. You dead wrong. I'm right. Oh, now you're right because I said it. See, I knew you didn't mean it. See, now what could have just been a fight and a disagreement?

39:57Shannon Sharpe:You're right. Right. I got lazy. I put it in the sink when I could have just put it in the dishwasher. You're right, babe. You're right. Instead of taking the trash out of the trash can and put it in a big bag and leave it on the floor, I could have just, you know what, put it in a big bag and take it to the trash can. You're right. I'm lazy. You're right. I'm lazy. That is not like yelling to be lazy. Oh, oh, you just said that. You don't mean it. I know you don't mean it. I agree with you. I could have done that. But I was tired. You see? so what could have been something easy and then i just like okay you're right now i i ain't got no fight in me they don't they don't rob him a fight right how did they rob him to fight right you i i used to debate with the best of them nope that's me that's me that's me sometimes ain't worth it man to get you get your water boiling like that it ain't worth it I tell you, Joe, if you don't do it often, see, I don't do it often, Joe.

41:02I'm not combative. I don't like conflict, Joe. But every so often, every blue moon is almost like foreplay in a sense. You setting it up for later. You setting the play for later. You know, the call, the play call. Yeah, yeah. The play coming to you.

41:18Shannon Sharpe:You got it, yeah. You feel me? Yeah. You huddled up. Well, that's your hope that that's the fans get called on the two-point play. That's your best call. That's your best call for two. That's your best call, Ocho, because normally your best call, you got to give me your best fourth down play. You got one, you got two, not the best one. Okay, your best two-point play. Yeah. That was the best two-point play. So, in other words, I hope, Ocho, I really hope you setting this up. You got something called. I really hope it's a bomb burner. Yeah, yeah. Joe, I hope you got something playing. Hey. Yeah, Joe.

41:52And it starts, it just starts, it's, you let it marinate throughout the day. Let it marinate throughout the day. Start something, you know?

42:00Shannon Sharpe:Nah, I don't start no, no, Joe. Sometimes you got to do it on purpose. I'm talking about even if the day going perfect, I'm talking about y 'all both having a good day, you out of nowhere. Yeah, just, yeah, Joe, just start something, Joe. Nah, nah. It's like, just pull a hair or something. Ugh. Make one of the tracks come out. You know, if she got, if she got traffic. No, no, no, no, we got no track. We ain't got no track over here. OK, OK, my bad. Nah. Hey, nah, nah, Ocho, nah. I'm just, see, me, I just like, OK, you're right. Just leave it alone. I just, I just want, I don't really like, I mean, because I used to debate for a living.

42:39Shannon Sharpe:So if I, I don't want to debate, I don't want to come home and debate. Yeah. I know what you mean. I know what you mean. You right, I just want, hey, I say to you, right, let it go. but if I say let it go just let it go yeah women ain't gonna well the women that I've dealt with ain't gonna let it go yeah no sometimes they can't let it go they try to pull that other side up out of you and then when it come out yeah they looking crazy yeah oh you like that I didn't I say let it go I said bae let it go just let it go let me watch TV now you come stand in front of me in the TV I can't see.

43:23Shannon Sharpe:OK. I go downstairs. I go to the entertainment room. They coming right down that tube. Right down with you. Yeah. Oh, that's your problem. You don't know how to communicate. You don't know how to talk. I said, but now is not a good time. Yeah. I'll talk. I said, look, let me calm down. We'll have this discussion. I want to talk right.

43:49I know what you're talking about. Hey, Joe, and listen, when you eat your food, right? You got to add seasoning. You got to add some type of flavor. And listen, a little argument, a little debate, that ain't nothing but seasoning. That's all it is. A little salt, a little pepper, a little paprika. Yeah. Sometimes you get chicken, add your little lemon pepper to it. A little barbecue sauce to it. That's all it is.

44:18Shannon Sharpe:Do you add a little fiction after all that? Yeah, that's it. That's it. And you set it up. Oh, so you a sex after argument type of guy? Me? Yeah. I mean, for the right price. Yeah. Price? What's it? Oh, you on charge? Get out of here. I don't know. What?

45:08Shannon Sharpe:What? It makes Stefanski look bad now because your door has played well. If you're Kevin and you're making all these decisions based on football decisions and you've made a lot of other decisions over the years that were constantly second-guessed, this way is constantly a circus, well, you'd be sick of it. Has this become, you know, this hasn't worked out for either one of us in the last couple of years, so maybe it's just time? Hmm. he's 6-24 250 win percentage over the last two years he's a two-time coach of the year Ocho, what are you thinking? I mean it's tough, I think Stefanski is in a tough spot, obviously with 6-24 having, you know, on your resume, being coach of the year two times, I think that saves you and gives you a little bit more grace, but obviously you can't operate without a quarterback, you can't operate but our quarterback.

46:02So understanding what we've seen from Shador so far and the stuff and the actions that occurred before he was put in position to be the starter, obviously you always want your best player out there playing quarterback for you that gives you your best chance to win. And most of the time, I say it all the time, you say it all the time, players get coaches fired. Players get coaches fired. So for a coach, you would always want to be in a position to have players in there that can do right by you. That can do right by you, not just you, but your team as well, and give yourself a chance and give you some grace and longevity as a coach.

46:38So I'm not sure why they're playing, why the games have been played in general in Cleveland. It's been a damn circus, huh? It's been a goddamn circus, Joe. So just some of the play call, I don't want to get into all that. We've all seen it. We've all heard it. You know something's right. And anyone that says it's not right based on all the evidence that we've seen since the draft up to this point. I mean, you just turn the blind eye to the bullshit.

47:07Shannon Sharpe:What if is the situation, Ocho, where Kevin Stefanski really wanted to place your door and he was handcuffed?

47:17Shannon Sharpe:But I don't. You think that's what it sounds like? I mean, if we're to believe what Albert Breer is being reported, how much say do we believe that Kevin Stefanski have over the final 53? How much say does he have in the draft? How much say does he have in free agency? Does he have, say, Mike Tomlin, like Andy Reid, like Sean McVay? He has a Mike Drable? do you think he has that kind of say Ocho I would think so or Sean Payton two-time coach of the year would have some say so and and some of the personnel that he brings in I would think so and I told I ate dope I told on the other night right with some of the things that were going on I felt like basically Kevin Stefanski was basically Nico Harris yeah I felt he was taking the fall yeah you did he's taking the fall for all for the upper management above his pay grade that the owner came out and said, listen, this wasn't my pick.

48:23I didn't want Shadour. So I think he's taking the blunt and all the heat and his hands are tied. So, I mean, Uncle, what you said, it might be a possibility. We had no control over it. And maybe he did want him to start the whole time. But, you know, there's a pecking order like we just talked about.

48:39Shannon Sharpe:That's what I'm going to say, yeah. There's a pecking order. Third round pick? Oh, well, he's a third round pick for a reason. So he's always going to get first dibs no matter what. And you're not normally taking quarterbacks a third because you're asking for trouble. The last time we saw somebody take a quarterback, because look, go back and look at Washington. Mike didn't want to take a quarterback, didn't want to trade that pick. He felt they could sit right there where they were and get the quarterback that they wanted. He really liked Cousins. He felt he could get Cousins where they got Cousins and could be fine.

49:18Shannon Sharpe:yeah you're in salary cap hell because remember that was the year that the uncapped year and uh everybody dumped all their money in that dallas and washington had to pay all that salary cap money because they had dumped all that in a non-cap year and the nfl said now you couldn't do that you're cheating so they take a quarterback at number two and then they turn right around and take cousins who how do you think this was going to work out oh joe you take a quarterback in the third round and then you take another quarterback in the fifth round? How do you think this is going to work out? I think maybe security.

49:53That's the only thing I can think of. Security. You're asking for trouble. Understanding that Joe Flacco was going to only give you so much time left at his age. You know? Okay, we got this, but are we sure Dylan Gabriel is the answer? You know what? We're not sure, so we're going to take another one. Why don't you take it?

50:11Shannon Sharpe:Huh? Who goes into... Normally, that's not how you draft, Joe. You don't draft a guy and say, well, he might not be here. If you think he might not be here, why you draft him? That's a good question. I'm not going to the store. You buying a car? Man, this car might put me down, but I'm going to go ahead and buy it anyway. Yeah. Go ahead, Joe. Listen, but when we think about it statistically from training camp to preseason, Shadour has had the best statistics from what we've seen. Yes. You know what I mean? So it's like, to me, it almost kind of feels like perfect timing. Like you say, Gabriel went, Dylan Gabriel went third, third round, and Shadur went fifth.

50:54Shannon Sharpe:It's kind of a pegging order. I'm kind of picking back what Ocho said. But I think Shadur has now took the reins, and I don't think he's going to give it back, man. I don't. I think the young man, he knows what's at stake. He knows everybody's watching. And, man, he just looked like a guy with a lot of confidence and poise out there. He looked great on the center. And if you think about it, Ocho, look at the guys he was throwing to. All the guys that he was throwing to were the rookies that came in with him. Oh. Yeah. So it's not an accident. Those are most of the guys that he was getting the reps with.

51:31Right.

51:31Shannon Sharpe:It's just hard for me to see a scenario. I mean, like I said, some people say that didn't happen, but I've never been on a team where the backup didn't get at least two reps a period. Right. Yeah, always. I mean, we had a veteran quarterback in Trent Dilfer who backed up Tony Banks, and he still got two reps a period. Yeah. We had a veteran, Randall Cunningham, who backed up Elvis Gerback, and he still got two reps a period. Hey, you play with Randall? Yeah, I play with Randall. Yeah, I play with Randall. Hey, what is that? In 2001, in Baltimore. Hey, that's dope. I didn't know Randall was in I was there I didn't know Randall was there and that's dope man so this notion that you wouldn't give a rookie that had the potential to go in the game any reps when veterans that have been starters have been to Pro Bowls was getting reps it was just unconscionable to me that people thought that was okay.

52:44Shannon Sharpe:That's what I couldn't understand. Look, if y 'all don't understand, I know I don't know. I'm like, man, I don't know what's going on out here. Look, we know every coach, every general manager has their guy in the media. When they want to get certain things out, Joe, they know how to get it out. I'm not saying this is the case, but I'm saying I know that to be factual. So when I want to get something out, I know who to get it to. Sources in the NFL. No, your source with the team told you that. Your source with the team told you that. I know how it works. I just like me. I just like to talk because I don't like to get information.

53:33Shannon Sharpe:I don't because I be using it. And they go, yeah, the person I'm talking about go, no, I got that from a very, very reputable person. So I just let stuff go. I just like, you know, hey, from my personal experience and how stuff go, but y 'all best believe. Oh, yeah. I mean, knowing. But, I mean, he's a two-time coach of the year, Ocho. I don't know, look, the Baker situation, how that worked out. the Shadour, how that's playing out. Who knows? Maybe they want a high draft pick. I don't know. I believe Mendoza's going to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday. Yeah. And he, Ocho, he might turn around and he might be who knows, great, historically great.

54:27Right.

54:28Shannon Sharpe:But as I look at him and look at Shadour,

54:37Shannon Sharpe:I mean, if Shadour had that kind of offensive line protection when he was in college, are we sure? Yeah. So I don't know if the fans keep one out. Maybe that's a situation where they probably want him out. I don't think he'd be unemployed long. I mean, he is a two-time coach of the year, Ocho. He is fairly young. but look there are going to be some openings what? well first of all we already know there are going to be two openings in Tennessee and the Giants and the likelihood there might be more who knows it might be one in Las Vegas damn already damn Pete just got there huh? yeah just be leaving too but hey The thing is, and NFL, remember Ocho a couple years ago, they sent that memo out, man, y 'all got to stop hiring and firing.

55:33Shannon Sharpe:Because think about it, the John Gruden thing, he got AP on the contract. He still got to pay that. Now you got Pete. So you got three guys that ain't coaching for you that you paying. And then if you bring another coach in, you got to pay him. That's for him. And staff. Hey, that's impatience, impatience. So it's going to be very interesting to see how this thing plays out, Ocho. But at the end of the day, you know what's in that division. Joe Burrow's in that division. When he's healthy, he's unbelievable. The thing is that he's not healthy all the time. Lamar is in that division. Lamar is hurt, and he's missing throws, and he's not running like he once did, Ocho, because I think he's afraid he's going to hurt that hamstring again.

56:27Shannon Sharpe:And so he, look, Lamar is missing throws that Lamar hadn't missed since his rookie year. Yeah. So in order for you to be in that division, your quarterback's got to play well. You got Aaron Rodgers. Now, we don't know if he's going to come back, you know, be at 42 and coming back. I don't know. But you got to have a quarterback in that division, just like the AFC West. You got to have a quarterback. AFC South, quarterback. You got Stroud, you got Lawrence. And they had competent quarterback play and ended for a while until he got hurt. And now it seems like he's going to hell in the hand. They brought a granddad out of retirement.

57:10Shannon Sharpe:So it's going to be very, very interesting to see how this thing plays out in Cleveland. Y 'all think they're going to sign Phillip River? Oh, yeah. Yeah, they already signed it. Oh, did they? Yeah. The question is, is he going to start? That's the question. The question is if they're going to side him, if he's going to start. I'm saying who else they got that can play in front of him? They got Riley Leonard, but he got a banged up knee. Yeah. He's starting. He's starting. He's starting. Listen, Joe, I mean, there's a relationship and an understanding of scheme and tactics between Shane Steichen and Phillip Rivers.

57:46So the system, he's very familiar with it. And because he's so familiar with the system, all it is now is getting as much timing and chemistry as you can with the offense and with the players right now, but he's going to start Sunday. I'm not sure. What he does is he's giving and hoping and giving that team a chance to keep their head above water because they still have a chance to make the playoffs and they're just trying to see this. We're going to kick these tires and see what Phillip Rivers can do for us for the rest of the season and see if we can make a run at the playoffs and stick to who's in there.

58:20Shannon Sharpe:they got to stay high because they gave those two first round picks they gave them two first round picks and the further you fall without understanding the higher those picks are so guess what next year if Daniel Jones doesn't come back healthy until because he was dealing with a broken leg and now he's got a torn Achilles so he's got to heal two injuries now you mess around and be like the Indy of old where the Jets going to get a top five pick where they might have two top five picks because they're going to look like they might be some sloth because they're looking for a quarterback too. Now you're right back at square one.

58:58Shannon Sharpe:Hey, them injuries are going to take a while to heal, man. You ain't going to be able to rush Dane Jones back with them two injuries right there. And that was the only reason they was playing. With that broken, I think it was a tibia or a lower leg. Tibia.

59:16Shannon Sharpe:Tibula. Tibula, yeah.

59:21Shannon Sharpe:So, that's the only reason playing Ochoa and Jones, because they were in prime position to make the playoffs. Make the playoffs, that means the pick's going to probably be way on down there, 24, somewhere between 24 and 32. You can live with that. I ain't really trying to get no top 10, no team pick, no early team, no top 10 pick. I ain't really trying to do that for you, bro. Right. Because they went all in. when you make that trade for Sauce Gardner, you're basically saying I'm all in. I'm jumping on this thing with both feet. Yeah. How long Sauce is going to be out? He nicked. I mean, he got a calf injury.

59:59Shannon Sharpe:Ain't no telling. And then plus Daniel Jones, it don't matter what Sauce is doing. You got to have a quarterback. Yeah. Hell, he can't throw the ball. He might be 44, but that's all you got. even at 44 years. It's hard for me to believe that you couldn't scour 31 other teams practice squad and say, hey bro, this is an opportunity for you to start. Absolutely not. They reached out to Sam Ellinger who's on the Broncos practice squad. He said, no, I'm good. He said, all y 'all going to do is get me over there and then at the end of the season, y 'all going to cut me. Let me stay right there where I am.

1:00:43Shannon Sharpe:I know the system. I'm cool. Yeah, and hold on. I got one for you better. Even if all 31 other teams with 31 other backups, how many of those 31 backups are better than Phillip Rivers even right now at 44? Well, we're going to find out on Sunday. Right. And so I want you to break your ass off here on Sunday. All right. All right. Because, listen, you know this. Your spotty senses, even in the offseason, from the time that you, from the time your last game until the time you come back, your Spidey senses have to heighten. They have to get back in alignment. They don't tingle like they once did.

1:01:23Shannon Sharpe:Can you imagine, Ocho, can you imagine, let's just say for the sake of argument, Ocho, you 30. You don't play the game for five years and they say, you know what, Ocho, come on back out and you come back out there at 35. Boy, you gonna be running through man's own read, they gonna be tearing your ass up.

1:01:42You're going to be Yeah I think if anything he might be just A beat off That's it

1:01:51Shannon Sharpe:Ain't nothing changed though it's not like he was running It's not like he was Michael Vick before he left No absolutely not He had cement shoes on When he was 25 Shit man he's going to be Now they just led He's going to be handing that thing off when you see what they did is that because they know Daniel Jones can't run like he once did they stacked the line they said nah we're not gonna let Johnny JT beat us beat us throwing the ball so they took that away from him
