In short

The episode is a “Best of NFL Week 1 Part 2” roundtable focused on standout performances, preseason/playing-time debates, and early injury/contract news. Hosts discuss why teams should use preseason reps to build rhythm and timing, arguing that skipping preseason leads to hamstring/wrist-type issues and slower starts. They highlight Ravens vs. Colts: Lamar Jackson’s 324 passing yards plus rushing, and Derrick Henry’s 144 rushing yards and three rushing TDs on 24 carries.

Key claims

Henry is on track to keep climbing the all-time rushing TD list (124), and the Ravens’ scheme/coaching is the “right situation” for Henry’s late-career production; Zay Flowers’ hamstring tweak explains his limited first-half output.

Notable examples

Henry “hopping through the hole” on a big run; Ravens controlling time of possession and generating quick strikes. They also cover Myles Garrett knee surgery with a tentative four-week availability window, and Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. being held out by Mike McCarthy, with speculation about a trade/contract dispute.

2:38Shannon Sharpe:Oh, now they want to listen to O'Shea. After Chargers took a surprising L, Arizona Cardinals, head coach Jim Harbaugh says he wishes he played in starters more in the preseason. Take a listen to this. Yeah, I mean, we made some preseason type of mistakes, you know, and

2:59And now in retrospect, we should play our guys a little bit more in the preseason and give them those reps, but those game-like reps. So, yeah, onward and attack in all areas to find improvement.

3:28Shannon Sharpe:you said it boy you said it y 'all keep on doing it like y 'all doing it and the pillars are going to keep happening the poor tackling the poor play leading in and then before you know it you get on the right track you done lost two or three games now you're on an uphill climb all season uphill battle I'm with you that same thing I've been asking y 'all all season, especially in the preseason. Hey, man, how can you catch a rhythm? How can you fine-tune, time, timing, and being on the one accord with your receivers? You know what I mean? I don't think that's something you could just, obviously, because y 'all have been together for quite some time, meaning a few years, you think you could just go out there.

4:17Shannon Sharpe:Man, it takes time, bro. It takes time. That's why we see a lot of this when I talk about rest versus Russ. I know the scoring is high, but man, listen. I'm like Harbaugh, bro. It's been some bonehead mistakes that you probably could alleviate if you had that rhythm and timing throughout the preseason. Damn, you ain't got to play the whole half, the whole game but you got to get yourself a few series just to get out there and see what it feels like. You know what I mean? You've seen all these missed tackles. You've seen all these blown coverings. That's why the scoring up. You also see penalties.

4:57Shannon Sharpe:Even though tonight didn't seem to be that didn't have that many penalties. How many penalties?

5:09Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, both teams had seven, 14. Broncos seven for 52. Chiefs seven for 60.

5:21Shannon Sharpe:Two turnovers from Broncos? No, I just don't get it. I don't get it. I don't get it. Because they make, oh, these players are making so much money. Yeah. Well, they was making, you have to look at the times. They were making a lot of money back then for the time that it was in. Yeah. Guess what? 20 years from now, Ocho, they're going to look back. DB is going to be making$50 million a year,$60 million a year. Somebody is going to be making$100 million a year. Ooh. It's just the way it is. It's called inflation. things man you can buy your car you used to buy a car $1500 brand new car right off the spanking brand new right off the lot drive it off the floor get you a nice get you a nice three bedroom brick house yeah $30 ,000 yeah times change

6:13Joe Johnson:hey I need what you need I'm looking at my my fantasy lineup I got Burrow I got Jeremiah Love obviously I think he's going to play more even though he scored I got Bucky Irvin I got I got George Pickens I got Kyle Pitts he was a donut in almost every category so I know they're going to feed him this week coming up Lad McConkie that's my dude I got Mike Evans Jalen Hurts I need to do something with my running backs man I got Travis Kelsey That ain't got nothing to do with me. I got Mike Washington, man. I need to... I got Tony Pollard.

6:58Shannon Sharpe:What'd you say? Oh, you thought you had something. Pollard'll bounce back. He normally plays well. Damn. I'm going to be all right, though. The cost of living goes up. People think, well, look at all the money they're making. But you got to look at what the cost of living is. you ain't buying no coffee no$1 ,500 not no brand new one

7:21Joe Johnson:you can get you a lemon for$1 ,500 yeah you know it gonna break down in three days

7:28Shannon Sharpe:good look yeah so this notion because the guys play so much excuse me because the guys are paid so much you can't play them in the pre if that's the case why you play them in the regular season then they're paying so much they might get hurt it's football

7:48Shannon Sharpe:I thought football, you play football. That's what you do, Ocho. That's what the preseason's for. Yeah. Is to get your body acclimated to take on the rigors of an NFL season. That's what I thought the preseason was for. To work out some of the kinks, considering that you haven't played in six months. Some of you haven't played in seven, eight months because your season ended. so you go January February March April May June July August September so you go almost nine months without playing football so yeah we just go pick right up where we left off don't worry like that

8:26Joe Johnson:hey anybody want to trade me running backs who you got I'm going to give you Tony Pollard and Mike Washington for who you want to know who I got Yeah, who you got? Who are your running backs? I mean, I know you want Mike Washington. You know, he went to Arkansas.

8:43Shannon Sharpe:I got, hold on. I got Scatterboo. I got James Cook.

8:50Joe Johnson:Hey, let me get them two, Joe.

8:52Shannon Sharpe:I got a couple guys on the bench I can let you get. I got a... Give me Scatterboo and James Cook. No, I can't give you them two, but I got two more on the bench that I probably can work a deal with you. I'll give you two of these two guys I got on the bench. Who's got on the bench? and who is this? Oh, you got Keaton Mitchell? Yeah. You want him? No. Oh, you good? I'm good with my running backs. Yeah, Ocho. I play with his dad, though. Yeah, he can go. He can go. Ocho, you might. Who you say you got, Ocho?

9:22Joe Johnson:I got Tony Pollard.

9:24Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, okay, okay. Give me Tony Pollard. I'll give you Keaton Mitchell. As a matter of fact, I'll do a throw-in. I'll do a throw-in for you. Who you gonna throw in there? I'll give you Romeo Dogs.

9:38Joe Johnson:Oh, I'll take that. I'll take that because he's going to bounce back. I'll take that. And A.J. Brown out.

9:45Shannon Sharpe:What other receivers you got, though? You might have. I got big. Y 'all need to work a deal out of offline.

9:52Joe Johnson:Oh, my bad. My bad. Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. Hey, he jealous. Yeah.

9:59Shannon Sharpe:After Joe scored only 100 points, he need all the help he can get. Oh, you got to chill. You got to cheer.

10:08Shannon Sharpe:We going to be a lot better this week. I sure hope so, Joe. Matthew Stafford do have a bounce back game. He do. You hope he do. Hey, you better hope he do for Puka. For Puka's sake, you got Puka. I do got Puka. Hey, them first couple games, man, going to be a little iffy here. They ain't even playing. They got to find their timing.

10:40Well, it's going to be a little late.

10:42Shannon Sharpe:But they got to start playing. They got to do something, man. Can you imagine, Joe and Ocho, if they only have two? Just think, they cut it down to two preseason games. They don't play. And they increase the regular season. Think about the amount of time. So if you don't play in the preseason, it's going to be it's going to be a damn near month before you play the regular season before you even take a real snap I don't know how you do that bro that's what I'm saying that's why I didn't get not playing in the preseason at all because you already getting two weeks off after the bye week I mean after the third preseason game it's two weeks before you play so if you don't play the third preseason game, man, that's three weeks off.

11:33Shannon Sharpe:Hey, it's a little different now. You got to look at the NBA. How many preseason games they play now? Like four? Three? Yeah, probably. It used to be ten. We used to play ten preseason games on the Ocho. Damn. Ten. We should play ten, bro.

11:48Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, y 'all be out there hooping for real or y 'all just be out there going through the motions to make sure nobody get hurt?

11:53Shannon Sharpe:Well, you understand that, okay, cool. we're going to play the first half. You know what I mean? It may even be a time where you may play the first half and maybe a little bit of the third quarter. You know what I mean? See, basketball is strictly up and down, running, sprints. You know what I mean? You can't – you got to be out there playing, bro. You know what I'm saying? You got to be out there playing that game, bro. That's a real rhythm and timing, getting up and down that floor, changing directions, you know, making plays, playing through traffic. You got to play. Well, they're not playing and don't seem like they're going to change anything.

12:33Shannon Sharpe:Nah, because they want to keep them boys healthy and they're going to add another game, you know, so they can draw up to raise the revenue. Y 'all know what they're doing.

12:48Shannon Sharpe:The Ravens defeated the Colts by the score of 41 to 23. Lamar Jackson and King hit. Boy, I'm kicking myself in the ass, not taking Lamar. Damn. Derek Henry had a legendary day. 144 rush yards, three touchdowns. He's now third all-time with 124 rushing touchdowns. He passed Marcus Allen, the most rush touchdown in NFL history. He sits third on the list. He's 40 touchdowns behind Emmitt for number one. He's 21 touchdowns behind LaDainian Thomason for number two. He was... Oh, yeah. I don't know if he can get to 41, but I know damn well he can get to 146. The way he's playing, though, in three years, he averages like 14, 16 touchdowns a season, Joe Ocho.

13:43Shannon Sharpe:So I don't put it. No, I don't put nothing past him because a back his size with the kind of collision that's on his body should not be doing what he's doing this late in his career.

13:56Joe Johnson:This late in his career, yeah, absolutely. As a matter of fact, this is the funny thing about it. Not only is he doing what he's doing this late in his career, he's on the right team. He's on the right team in the right scheme with the right coaching to be able to pull it off for another three years. He's in the right place in the right situation, and I'm hoping the Ravens allow him to continue to flourish in that system so he can reach some of those records. but hey I got one more for you talking Joe what did you see little Zay Flowers today

14:26Shannon Sharpe:Ocho he tweaked his hammy but before he tweaked it that's why he didn't come out that's why he had that 5 for a buck 50 in the first half that's why he didn't come back

14:37Joe Johnson:hey listen what I told you about week one not planning the preseason and you come out week one you go from 0 to 100 hammies I've been telling you

14:45Shannon Sharpe:that the whole time like man how these dudes how these dudes gonna get on the freeway put that thing at 120 mile per hour. Hell, you ain't been through the neighborhood yet. Come on, man. Engine ain't warm, man. You gotta have the engine warm. Come on. It don't make no sense. Hey, Jacoby Lane is out, too.

15:02Joe Johnson:I think he broke his wrist. Yeah. Come on, man. This is coming from a Bangle fan. I like the way the Ravens look today. This is what we expected them. Offensively, they picking up where they left off last year. They're picking up where they left off last year. Defensively, they was okay on defense. They was okay. And I'm sure at some point the Colts will pick up where they left off last year before Daniel Jones got hurt because they was rolling.

Read the full transcript

15:30Shannon Sharpe:Rolling last year too. Jonathan Taylor ran the ball. Lamar was 17-25, 324, took some snaps on the center. Now you can't get no key. I might hand it off. I might drop back and throw it on y 'all ass. Derrick Henry, 24 carries, a buck 44, three touchdowns. Lamar Jackson, 7 for 40 and a touchdown. Justice Hill, 6 for 18. 37 rush attempts. 202 yards. Lamar Jackson, another 324 yards passing. Over 500 yards of total offense. That is the Ravens. That's what they should. That's Shaq. They Shaq and Kobe. Ooh. They Shaq and Kobe. You ain't lying. That's a good comparison.

16:11Joe Johnson:Great comparison. Hell, I would say myself. I would say Mike and Pippen. hell LeBron and D-Wade

16:19Shannon Sharpe:but see the thing is you got that big bruiser see they have nobody that physical like Shaq they're here with Shaq and Lamar slicing them up 23 first down for the Ravens and they weren't that great on third down but they look scary but Lamar was dealing, dealing, dealing

16:45Joe Johnson:dealing. Hey, the scary thing about Lamont Uncle Joe is when he came out, he scared everybody because of his legs. What he could do with his legs. And the fact that he plays the quarterback position where now he's a past first quarterback. I'm going to go through my reads. I'm going to go through my one, my two, my three. You know what? If it ain't there, I'm not even going to run yet. I'm going to tuck it. I'm going to scramble and escape the pocket and use my legs and see if anybody can open up for me before I decide to take off a run. And when you take off a run, You might well pray. You're so afraid.

17:18Joe Johnson:You might well pray. Because if you give him a crease, Uncle Joe,

17:23Shannon Sharpe:it's goodnight, Irene. And then they added Zay Flowers. It just opens up that explosive passing game, bro. I mean, if Lamar going to be efficient like he was today and making plays and Derrick Henry being Derrick Henry. But if you go back and look over the last three to four years, he's been efficient like this here. He's had games like this where he's basically been perfect. And he's had games like this. And now that you get – I don't know what – I still don't know what Tennessee was thinking by cutting Derrick Henry. I still don't know. I know even less why the Cowboys didn't call that man and offer that man something considering he got a place in Dallas.

18:02Shannon Sharpe:And I know Javante Williams as well. Javante Williams ain't that kid.

18:07Joe Johnson:Yeah, but hold on. It's a good thing. It's a good thing. It's a good thing they didn't. It's a good thing they didn't. It's a good thing he went to Baltimore. Why you say that?

18:15Shannon Sharpe:They got the man for one year deal for$8 million, Ocho.

18:18Joe Johnson:Yeah, I mean, it's Jerry. You know how Jerry thinks, well, hell, if Tennessee let him go, you think we going to keep the ties and see what he can do with us just because he has a home here? No, absolutely not. I'm not doing that. I want to do things my way. And that's exactly what he does. So sometimes Jerry misses out on good things.

18:36Shannon Sharpe:And y 'all know they don't value the running back like that no more. I don't care who it is back there. They don't value it like that.

18:45Shannon Sharpe:I think it's going to take him two years, Ocho. I don't see him getting 20 rush touchdowns this year, but I think in two years, he's going to need a good solid four years to catch Emmitt.

19:00Joe Johnson:They'll give it to him. Hey, as long as he doesn't get hurt, they'll give it to him. I don't see him slowing down anytime soon. Not the way he takes care of his body, not the way he trains in offseason, not the way he stays healthy in season. and most of the time, he doesn't take unnecessary punishment unless he has to. And hell, don't nobody want to hit him anyway.

19:19Shannon Sharpe:I damn sure don't want to hit him now. He's fresh. And I damn sure, let me catch him like week seven, week eight before he get to the cold. Because if we're going to get cold, I damn sure ain't trying to hit him either. No, sir. So I would let him like week seven, week eight, probably like third week of October. After that. But no, they looked really impressive today. They looked really impressive today. They controlled over 35 minutes time of possession. When you run the ball like that, when you got 200 something yards, you're going to have 30 plus minutes time of possession, 35. I'm surprised they didn't have a little bit more time of possession.

20:03Shannon Sharpe:But when you got Derrick Henry hitting his head on the goalpost, Once you get Zay Flowers going, quick strikes like that, that's what happens. But when you grind it out, man, they look good. The Ravens look really, really good. And look, I don't want to get too excited. There are a couple of teams I got really excited about. We're going to talk about the Bears. The Bears' offense looks scary. Good Lord have mercy.

20:23Joe Johnson:Hey, but that's expected. That's expected. And I'm not talking about because it's the Bears. It's expected because when you have a talent, you know, I'm going to wait until we get to that game. I'm going to wait until we get to that game. What? Hey, you know who didn't look good today and didn't impress me at all? The Cowboys. Oh, man. Come on.

20:40Shannon Sharpe:Come on, man. God damn. Come on. This is what we on tonight, huh? No, no. Ocho. Ocho. Who said when we was in the hospitality suite, boy, hey, y 'all are going to want to come on there tomorrow night. I promise you. Joe. I like what damn, Joe. Let us enjoy the fight. All right. I said what day? Hey, man. Hey, hey, man. Hey, hey, hey. This Cowboy gonna put a mean demonstration down for them guys tomorrow. Hey.

21:11Joe Johnson:It's tough, boy. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, Joe, I got something. I got something. I'ma tell you, Pat. I got something to make you feel a little better.

21:23Joe Johnson:What did the avocado say to the nacho, Joe? What did the avocado. What did the avocado say to the nacho? What did the avocado say to the nachos?

21:36Joe Johnson:What? We got beef? Nah. I keep that guac on me.

21:51Shannon Sharpe:See? I made you laugh. He ain't going to forget that. He got to sleep with that. You ain't going to let me forget it. I'm going to let you – I mean, hey, look here, man. We're talking about King here. We ain't going to talk about them Cowboys. If your team didn't win today, you get no love. But Derrick Henry with 124 rushing touchdowns, 144, three touchdowns on 24 carries. Man. That boy was eating, wasn't it? Yes. But the play Ocho was talking about, I don't know if you guys saw it, Chad, where he hopped through the hole. That's a 250-pound man, a 6 '3", 250-pound man. Hop through the hole like a B.

22:32Shannon Sharpe:John would do, like a Jameer Gibbs would do, like a Christian McCaffrey, guys that are 40, 50 pounds lighter than he is. Hop through the hole, put his foot in the dirt, see you. Wouldn't want to be there. Yeah, man.

22:50Joe Johnson:Damn, Joe. It's cool, though, Joe. Y 'all going to be straight. Man, we talking about D.

22:53Shannon Sharpe:Gary, man.

22:55Joe Johnson:Oh, my bad.

22:57Shannon Sharpe:Damn.

23:00Joe Johnson:My bad, Joe.

23:01Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, they look scary, though. The Ravens look scary today. They look really. But, you know, I thought the Colts was going to come out a little better than what they looked. They didn't do too much. I mean, other than Jonathan Taylor running the football. And he can run the football. We know what he is. I mean, there's a reason why they pay him the money they didn't pay him. There's a reason why he's been an all-pro. There's been a multiple-time Pro Bowl player. Yes, he has that kind of ability. They defense. Alec Pierce, four for 61. Josh Downs, two for 37. Keenan Allen had six for 32. Jonathan Taylor, three for 23.

23:35Shannon Sharpe:Daniel Jones was 19 of 31, 166, one touchdown, one interception. They had over five yards, average five yards carry. Jonathan Taylor had 19 for 98, two touches. Running at that. I might have to scoop him, but I kind of like my running back. You know I started Derrick Henry today, Ocho. You know that, right? You did? And DeAndre Swift from the Bears. Hold on. Who did I play today? I don't know, but your team ain't probably do too good. Derrick Henry did some justice. He put some points on the board for you. Who did he? Both of my guys had three rush touchdowns over 100 yards. Damn. And I had Kincaid.

24:16Shannon Sharpe:I started Kincaid, too. Tied in for the Buffalo Bills. Okay. Okay. I think I put BTA to Stevie though. As long as he ain't have.

24:33Shannon Sharpe:What's that up there? I can't see it. Hold on.

24:39Shannon Sharpe:Hold on. I lost? What you mean? Joe, you hear? Man, take that damn surprise out your voice. What? No damn well you lost. Where I'm at? I can't see. Put that on the iPad, Ash. Yeah, man, she mollywopped you. She mollywopped you.

25:00Joe Johnson:Nah, I don't know about mollywopped.

25:02Shannon Sharpe:I did a number though, he whooped Stevie. Man, I had Derek here with Deandre Swill. Hold on, I must got some more players playing tomorrow. Who play tomorrow? Uh, the Broncos.

25:16Joe Johnson:The Broncos play Kansas City. Oh, hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. What? Hey, Joe. don't trip. You'll be able to get him back tomorrow night, bro. You'll be able to get him back tomorrow night. Because you know they ain't finna beat the Chiefs. You know that. I don't know. I don't know. You know what? I ain't gonna say no.

25:37Shannon Sharpe:What if my team beat for the AFC Championship? He flopped up now. Look at him. Flop, flop. Look. Hey.

25:49Shannon Sharpe:We'll see tomorrow. Man, Ocho, you be... Oh, keep trying to beat Tippy Toe. Boy, Ocho, man, what you call putting the brakes off you? Who? Ash. Come on, who?

26:06Joe Johnson:Hey, you know what it was? You know what it was? Hey, I had Uno. Uno had a quiet day.

26:13Shannon Sharpe:Boy, Mike put BTA to, what you call him? Hold on. Mike got... Mike got... Who Mike got? B. John or Jameer? He got Jameer Giles. Oh, and I had, what you call him, Ocho? Who you had? Almond Ross St. Brown. And he went crazy today? He had two touchdowns together.

26:40Shannon Sharpe:Damn. Oh, Derrick Henry gave me 35 points. D. Swift gave me 32 points. Armand Ross St. Brown gave me 28 points. Malik Neighbors gave me 13 points. Kincaid gave me 18 points. Michael Wilson gave me, oh, man. Brandon Aubrey gave me two points. I might have to cut you. Hey, listen, don't let nobody go too soon. As soon as week one, don't do. But I tell you what. What? Other than his bye week, Derrick Henry ain't coming out to start a lineup. Yeah.

27:14Joe Johnson:I got it. Hey, you know who's going to go crazy for me next week? Uno. Yeah, he owe you. Hey, listen. He had two for 12? Yeah. Man, listen. I know Burrow had to calm him down all day. Stevie ain't do too bad, though. Stevie was a...

27:35Shannon Sharpe:Mike had 187.

27:39Joe Johnson:Ooh. Wait, who had 187?

27:41Shannon Sharpe:Mike.

27:45Shannon Sharpe:I still got some The producer Mike Oh I gotta have another player play Ain't no way I'm the lowest scoring guy on here now Yes you are And with Dak Prescott Oh yeah Who are your receivers Joe Nico Collins Puka Well you already know Puka Puga ain't do too much. I know.

28:13Joe Johnson:No. They done played already. Don't worry about it. Don't worry. I'm, you know, sometimes you let, you let everybody else get, get out on you first and just walk them down like a track meet. That's all.

28:29Shannon Sharpe:He bitched Trevor Lawrence on Joe. He had Trevor Lawrence and he bitched Trevor Lawrence to start that.

28:36Hey,

28:37Shannon Sharpe:did you realize they was playing clean? Yeah, I did. I did. That's why I ain't had Fannie in my lineup, and I had Likely in my lineup.

28:45Joe Johnson:But you should have benched Dak and put Trevor Lawrence in. Come on, man. Trevor had a great day.

28:49Shannon Sharpe:Come on.

28:51Joe Johnson:Joe. Joe, hey, you got to start. You stop thinking with your heart, man. Start thinking with your mind, Joe.

28:57Shannon Sharpe:Plus, you got to think about, I ain't give you no tip. I was going to give you a tip. I ain't going to give you no tip. I'll save it until after we play you. After me and you. Each of the next six wins beyond that would be worth$150 ,000 provided he plays at least 60 % of the snaps. Now you understand why Walker and Tua came out there playing out of his mind. Let him go on the ground right quick. That's what I'm going to say. No wonder he came out there throwing slang and that thing like he just had someone to be.

35:23Shannon Sharpe:You say it's$150 ,000 from here on out or something? No, it's$100 ,000 once you get to$6 ,000. So now the seventh win is$150 ,000.

35:32Joe Johnson:Hey, you know, I think we should do that on here. What? When it comes to us getting paid, when we write, we need to incentivize some little bonuses. What happened when you roll? You can take some money back. Yeah, you know, like nice little bonuses. What you think?

35:52Shannon Sharpe:Well, you be old after picking Cincinnati in the last two years. Man.

35:58Joe Johnson:Why are we talking about old stuff? Oh, my bad. My bad. You right. You right. It's 2026.

36:03Shannon Sharpe:Right. Right.

36:04Joe Johnson:We can't see where we're going.

36:05Shannon Sharpe:You just try to win your fantasy. Just try to get fantasy right this week. Make sure you start the right guy.

36:10Joe Johnson:Let me tell you something. I got that. I'm confident. I'm confident in that

36:14Shannon Sharpe:are you confident you're going to beat me this week huh absolutely you don't stand any chance hey he got hey he on a little high horse this week too I can tell you your energy a little different your energy a little different I ain't going to lie to you Ocho hey Joe let me tell you something

36:28Joe Johnson:my energy I'm feeling good you hear me yeah I can tell hey I woke up this morning Uncle Joe you hear me hello I'm an able body and an able mind hello hello I'm feeling good when I put my feet on the ground I was able to wiggle my toes I was able to wiggle my fingers Hello

36:46Shannon Sharpe:He gave you an opportunity Another one Let's see The Giants play the Rams On Monday night next week What you saying Hold on I'm trying to see who I'm going to start

37:05Shannon Sharpe:The Lions play the Jets I'm about to start Jerry Goff Matthew Stafford. That's what I'm trying to say. Oh, who the Rams play? The Giants. Oh, you scared of them Giants defense, huh? They made you a believer last night? No, bro. I'm looking at what you call them. I'm looking at Jerry golfing his matchup at home versus the Jets. Oh, yeah. He probably going to get down, ain't it, man? Let me see what I got here. I might stick with Stafford at least one more week.

37:43Joe Johnson:Man, let me see who I got this week. Hey, you know the cream gonna rise to the top, right? For all the teams that haven't played well. I play Ash.

37:52Shannon Sharpe:Man, Ash about to beat the brakes off you. Man, please. Damn. Ash feeling good. She the computer that accidentally picked K-9, and now she happy. Oh, yeah, I got her. I ain't worried about that.

38:08Joe Johnson:I'm excited. I can't wait. But whoever got Jameer Gibbs, boy, you probably going to eat every week. Every week. Because anytime you play the Lions, it's like you got to pick your poison. Yeah. You stack everybody in the box, and you let J-Mo and Almond Ra kill you, or you play soft, and you let Jameer Gibbs kill you. I got Almond Ra. Pick your poison.

38:38Shannon Sharpe:That's my guy. Against you, Ocho.

38:42Joe Johnson:Are we good? Are we good? Listen, I'm going to beat you simply because of Uno. Now everything else is going to be icing on the cake. What you going to do with Dick Henry? Huh? What you going to do with Dick Henry? Who y 'all playing? It don't matter. It matter because you got to understand Zay Flowers might be out. Oh, he going to be out with the hamstring. Yeah, he ain't coming back that fast. All them boys gonna do is stack the box. They gonna make him go east and west. Because once he turns north, man, good luck.

39:23Shannon Sharpe:You remember Jameer Gibbs, what he just did? Yeah. Yeah.

39:31Shannon Sharpe:I think I'll start him this week. Hey,

39:36Joe Johnson:Now, remember, it's the same team that was down 20 now, right? That's okay. All right. I'm just telling you now.

39:44Shannon Sharpe:Look here. When it comes to fantasy, it's not about whether your team win or lose the game. It's about whether your player performs. Yeah.

39:52Joe Johnson:Okay.

39:54Shannon Sharpe:But your player is not going to perform and y 'all are going to lose the game. So, it's going to be a double whammy.

39:59Joe Johnson:Not going to happen. Not going to happen.

40:01Shannon Sharpe:Okay.

40:02Joe Johnson:You don't even sound confident. and I can hear your voice. See, I'm confident with mine. Oh, and I got Swift. I'm telling you what's going to happen and it's going to happen. Ocho, who you got that? Just because you said it don't mean it's going to happen.

40:15Shannon Sharpe:That's what Joe say. Joe say, just because you said it don't mean it's true.

40:18Joe Johnson:Hello. Ocho, who you got that's got you feeling so confident over there? I mean, really collectively as a team, Joe, the way I pick my team, the way I constructed my team, you know, I didn't win the first week, Joe, but sometimes you don't. O 'Barris got the Eagles. Hey, Joe, when it comes to playing fantasy, it's 50 % knowing what you're doing and it's 50 % luck. And it's also just knowing the game. Understanding when to take players out, when to put people on the waiver wire. Oh, now he a fantasy.

40:49Shannon Sharpe:Now he a fantasy guru. Now he a fantasy guru. I am.

40:56Joe Johnson:I am. You know, I studied the game. Not only did I study the game, Joe, I played it too. I already know, Ocho.

41:05Shannon Sharpe:I already know. You see him now, Ocho, Joe, you see him now. Now, all of a sudden, he a guru of fantasy. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you know.

41:18Shannon Sharpe:Hey, man. Lions played with this old schedule? Man, that's going to be a good one.

41:28Shannon Sharpe:Hold on. Already in week two? How do you go? Hold on. How they going to play the Bills on Thursday night? So they play this week? This Thursday? In three days? Damn!

41:42Joe Johnson:That's a fast turnaround. That's going to be a good one.

41:52Shannon Sharpe:It is. I look right over to September 17th. You're right. Hmm.

42:00Joe Johnson:I can't wait.

42:06Shannon Sharpe:Still keeping Auburn Rock in the lineup Yeah

42:10Joe Johnson:That's not a receiver you want to take out your lineup now I don't care who they playing He gonna get his

42:20Shannon Sharpe:Yeah I think I'll skip with Stafford one more week Oh you gonna go with Stafford one more week One more week One more game

42:28Joe Johnson:Hey don't pull nobody too early Hey, the cream always rise to the top now. I know you're trying to win your fantasy. Don't don't pull him.

42:42Shannon Sharpe:The news nobody in L.A. wanted to hear. Miles Garrett had knee surgery today and will not be on injury reserve. Here is Sean McVay on the injury status of Miles Garrett. It says with Miles, it was more along the lines of, you know, we had been aware of this, thought it was something that he would be able to work through. Obviously, being out there and playing in a real game, you learn like, hey, maybe that's not the case. So let's change course with that. And then Aaron is more just getting him up to speed. Have an idea of what Miles timeline looks like as far as is it closer to that minimum four games or could it potentially be longer?

43:17Yeah, I don't get really yet. You know, I think it's it's all contingent upon how did things go today you feel good about it um but i think it'd be unfair to him or you know really just without having the totality of all the information um to put any sort of timeline on it we know that he'll be available on four weeks potentially and so we'll just take that a day at a time

43:41Shannon Sharpe:who came on here y 'all remember y 'all remember he came on there what did i say oh joe

43:48Joe Johnson:you don't look the same?

43:51Shannon Sharpe:I said, Joe, there was no secondary move. I said, he just ran up the field. Yeah. Man, you know Miles Garrett. When you see Miles Garrett going between his legs, changing direction, crossing over, bending, he just ran up the field. I said, nah, that ain't my – nah, nah, nah.

44:05Joe Johnson:Yeah, so some of us –

44:06Shannon Sharpe:This is not the takeaway from Trent because Trent is an outstanding left tackle, one of the premier left tackles in all of football. But I know after watching Myles Garrett for all these years and seeing him the way he plays, you know. It's just like if something's wrong with Trent Williams. I know when Trent Williams is not Trent Williams. When he's not getting the guy to that kick, when he can't get out wide, man, something's bothering Trent. Damn, that's unfortunate, bro. You know, you, A, because you don't take into consideration, you know, when you put together these, you know, dream teams, so to speak, thinking you're going to have Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald on their front, Ocho.

44:48Shannon Sharpe:When it don't work out and injuries derail it, because guess what? I don't care what we say. Myles Garrett ain't going to be the same this year. I mean, if he comes back, he'll probably be a great player still, a good player still, but to be dominant like he was last year, bro?

45:05Joe Johnson:I don't know, Ocho. I don't know. Again, I'm going to use that word that McVay used, it's all contingent on him. It's all contingent on him and how fast he recovers. Everybody heals different, Uncle Joe. Oh, Uncle left. Anyway, everybody heals different. You know, as far as rehab is a concern. I know one thing, Myles Garrett won't come back until he knows he can contribute and be a much better version of himself and not a shell of himself like he looked at that first game. When he wasn't able to get in his toolbox, all he did was just go straight up field really not wanting to make any moves and put any pressure on that knee.

45:43Joe Johnson:I'm not sure which knee it is, but he probably won't come back until he know he can make a difference and be an impact in games.

45:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. And speaking of expectations, you know, when you go to a new team, Ojo, especially when expectations are high, and we're talking about Super Bowl in our own building, at home, on our front porch, come on, man. Like, it's tough. It's tough to reach. It's tough to get to that point. But even if you are healthy, but without a healthy Myles Garrett, bro, it's going to be tough. Yeah. It's going to be tough. So the Rams got their work cut out for them. Boy, I hate that for Myles Garrett because I know, you know, him going to L.A. was huge, getting out of Cleveland. Now you get there, you ready.

46:24Shannon Sharpe:I'm talking about you in the sunshine. You know what I mean? Them bought them a new crib. Come on, man. And now I can't even come out here and perform at a high level. I know that hurt. That hurt. It does. Because having changed teams in the offseason, I went from Denver to Baltimore after I broke my collarbone. And, you know, you always want to get off to it. And the thing is, Joe, Ocho, tweak my hamstring in minicamp. Oh, man. I done got these people money. I ain't really had no injury in training camp. I done got these people money. People go like, man, he done came over here and shut it down.

47:05Shannon Sharpe:That's why the Broncos got rid of him.

47:11Shannon Sharpe:Man. I wasn't living it up, though, but I got that new money. Hey, I was in Houston every day, Joe, eating the chicken. I was either getting the chicken tenders or the Biltmore. I said, come on, man. Come on, God. I know I can't go out like this here. Man, I rehabbed that thing, iced up, got massages, getting massages down there every day. All the thing I could do is ride the bike. I couldn't open it up, Joe, to run. You would feel it grab. But I had to keep my weight down. Yeah, I got to get my weight down. Man. It's tough, boy. Them injuries. Hey, them injuries will piss you off because you like, man, listen, I know I'm a way better player than this, but when you had them little nagging injuries, especially that hamstring or that calf muscle or that foot or something, ooh.

48:03Shannon Sharpe:When I can't go out there and do what I'm supposed to be able to do.

48:07Joe Johnson:You don't feel right.

48:09Shannon Sharpe:Yes. And look, like you said, the Super Bowl is in their building. Coming off of the way they played last year, they lost the NFC Championship game. They felt had they had that in their building, they're going to be Super Bowl champs. Yep. Yep.

48:31Shannon Sharpe:Didn't happen like that. they got some work to do they got some work to do they do but that help might be on the way in the form of 99 Aaron Donald I don't know I mean two years come on man expectations might be a little high now that's all I'm saying I ain't saying he ain't gonna come back and be a force to reckon with but come on now

48:59Joe Johnson:hey Joey Sam you got the problem for no matter what, even with a two-year layoff. Go out there and play him one-on-one and watch what happened.

49:07Shannon Sharpe:They got Kobe Turner. They got Fisk. They got some guys that can run. Look, Myles Garrett is phenomenal. We're not taking anything away from Myles Garrett. But with Aaron Donald coming back, they have more than enough on the defensive front. They got those two outstanding corners. Hey, it's time to put up, man. I ain't making no excuses for no damn Rams. Myles Garrett be damned. them. Wish them a speedy recovery. They have more than enough. They got Matthew Stafford. They got Puka Dukul. They got Devontae Adams. They got Blake Corum. They got Kyron Williams. They got Higby. They have more than enough to win ballgames.

49:47Shannon Sharpe:This season should not go into the tank because Myles Garrett is going to be on IR for four weeks. Somebody from Curling Joe, probably Dr. Ella Trosh, He normally performs a lot of the surgery on the Rams players. Great orthopedic. But, no, we're not making no excuses for the Rams now. I guarantee you, Seattle, the 49ers, Chicago, Philly, nobody in the NFC is feeling sorry for no damn Rams. Oh, Miles, man. I sure hate that for the Rams. Boy, they happy. Thank you. Yeah, yeah, they happy. They ain't going to say it, but they happy. Oh, boy, that boy out of there? Oh, yeah. Ooh. We play them week three.

50:33Shannon Sharpe:If you got problems, though, let me tell you how problems work. Tommy Lasorda once said, problems, 50%, glad you got them. The other 50%, glad it ain't them. Yeah. So ain't nobody else. Oh, man, I sure hate that happened to him. It's like, hell, I'd rather happen to him than me. Hello. Hello. What the hell?

51:03Shannon Sharpe:But no, they have more than nothing. Like Sean said, look, he don't know the timetable. Like you said, as strong as he is, but like you said, come back, put a sleeve on that thing, build up. If he was a lineman, an offensive lineman, he'd probably be back in a week. Depending on, probably just a little scope, a little cleanup, Ocho. Look, we've had guys get scoped on Monday and play on Sunday. What? Yeah. Them guys ain't got no wiggle in their game then. They play an offensive line. Yeah, we get guys get scoped on Monday and play on Sunday. Damn. Yeah. Yeah.

51:47Shannon Sharpe:But Miles Garrett, he got to do this. Them knees got to be strong. Mm-hmm. I think he'll be fine he'll be fine it's a little frustration because you know you want to be on your best it's just like anything you're going to a new relationship what you're going to be you want to be on your best behavior you're opening doors Joe Ocho Ocho opening doors hey hold on baby hold on let me get that funny let me get that funny you know you want to be on your best behavior yeah yeah hey Ocho go there we met first met Cambodia How you doing? Here you go, baby. Yeah. You pulling the chair in and say, yeah, yeah, I know it.

52:31Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, six months in here, she opening her own door, ain't she?

52:35Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, you know, most of them say, you know, Uncle Joe, I don't really be too much on that performative stuff, you know? Yeah. I kind of set the tone and set the precedent where I'm not going to be doing all the extra stuff. This is just how it's going to be you know, throughout, as opposed to going crazy in the beginning and then changing later on. So you're opening doors or nothing? Yeah, I kind of just be myself, Joe. Yeah. And listen, if you ain't handicapped and ain't nothing, you know you got aid, your arms work, I just open the door. Now I ain't got time for all that shit, man. Now you got me walking around the car.

53:12Joe Johnson:I got to walk around the car and all this extra walking and shit.

53:15Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

53:16Joe Johnson:Hey.

53:20Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, that's how it was. I know him. You know, Ocho, does he smile? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

53:28Joe Johnson:Yeah, you know, I do a little something, but not too much. Not too much where I know I'm not going to be able to maintain it long. Right. There you go. That's what I'm talking about, Ocho. There you go.

53:37Shannon Sharpe:That's what I'm talking about. There you go. I'm only going to do what I can maintain. Yeah, yeah. I remember when we first met, you throw your jacket down over a puddle and let me step on it. I wish I might.

53:50Shannon Sharpe:I ain't never did that. You better see that portal and walk around. Step your ass in there. Hey, you're best to just step it if you want to. Hey, what's wrong with you? Man. Hey, what I can do? Hey, while you bulljiving, you need to get out get out your side and open the door for me. I know what it's all right, this mofo.

54:27Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey. Hey, they say when you open the door for your lady and you close her door, when you go to get in yours, if she don't reach over and open up your door for you, they say it's a problem. It's a problem. Yeah, yeah. It's a problem. Yeah. What happened? and she reach over and lock the door on you. What that mean? I mean, that means she wants you to get gone. You hear me? She can lock it. Get a good one. Man, boy, please. But no, I'll say this. Miles wish you a speedy, speedy recovery, bro. Man. Oh, yeah. Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said it was his decision not to play cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

55:10Shannon Sharpe:on Sunday. Let's take a listen to what Mike had to say. But, you know, hopefully we'll have a good plan for him on Wednesday. Hopefully we'll do more. You know, that's the outlook. So, yeah, hopefully we move forward with more volume of work. You know, that would be my anticipation.

55:29Joe Johnson:Hey, man ain't playing under that contract, man. Listen, you have a player that you draft, right, Uncle Joe?

55:36Shannon Sharpe:Yes. You want said player to play well for you.

55:41Joe Johnson:now said player has played well now it's time to pay said player based on his resume and what he's done up to date you don't want to play player because you paid other players and now the season has started and the Steelers organization does not play that when it comes to dealing with contract negotiations in season that's not happening Joy Porter has showed you I'm not touching the field There's a very good chance that a trade of some sort might be being worked behind closed doors. And, again, here we have, you know, Mr. McCarthy being PC saying, oh, we're ramping up the work. Well, you had time to ramp up the work during OTAs.

56:23Joe Johnson:You had time to ramp up the work during training camp.

56:25Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

56:26Joe Johnson:You had preseason. Now all of a sudden in the week two you're going to ramp things up. No. No.

56:35Shannon Sharpe:I don't believe he has that kind of control over the roster.

56:38Joe Johnson:Yeah, I think a trade of some sort might be on the horizon because Brother Porter wants to get paid. Maybe whatever team that might trade for him might promise him that deal if they have a little leeway and a little cap space. So, I mean, we'll see.

56:54Shannon Sharpe:I just don't see him resetting the market. I don't see him getting more than Gonzalez. I don't see him getting more than Spoon. Yeah. So if that's his goal, he might as well go on and play Ocho. without a contract? No, or just sit out. I don't think, I don't, you think he's going to get $35 million a year old, Joe?

57:15Joe Johnson:No, maybe, maybe right, right below that. Maybe$33,$32. That's, that's still, that's still revered.

57:21Shannon Sharpe:Has he gone to the Pro Bowl? Has he had a Pro Bowl yet? Oh, I'm not sure. Because you look at the guys, you look at all the guys that we're talking about that got that 30. Those are Pro Bowl players, defensive rookie of the years, all pros that's what those guys are I just don't see it there don't show I don't

57:47Joe Johnson:listen no Pro Bowls but I know what he looks like when you turn that film on I know that I know that I know he's gonna be right there in your face

57:57Shannon Sharpe:I'm not saying he don't deserve to get paid because he deserves to get paid he's clearly outplayed the contract that he's currently under. My problem has always been if you outperform the contract, they don't want to pay you. But if you underperform on the contract, they want to cut you. So they want it both ways. That's one of my problems. I mean, I got a lot of problems I could air out, but I'm just saying. That's one of the problems that I have with the league. If I outperform the contract, reward me because if I underperform on the contract you gonna cut me well

58:43Shannon Sharpe:well you did sign the contract well when you release me I signed the same contract that you gonna release me

58:49Joe Johnson:I signed it

58:53Shannon Sharpe:that's why guys try to get as much money as they can guarantee try to get as much bigger signing bonus as much money as you can over the first couple of years. That's your contract. Whatever you get on them first three years, that's your contract. You said I got a five-year-old, I got five years, six years. Bro, you ain't seen the back end of that. Hey, that's what you're supposed to do. Front load that contract, man. Let me see everything.

59:18Joe Johnson:The best way you can, Joe. Yes.

59:22Shannon Sharpe:Because after that, the balloon paper's going to come do the cap number going to be so high, Ocho.

59:28Joe Johnson:They ain't got no choice. They going to come

59:29Shannon Sharpe:and tell you hey you want to take a pay cut no sure don't well can we restructure now we can

59:38Joe Johnson:talk about that now you take some of that money on the back end and put in a little signing bonus make me feel a little better about myself yeah we can negotiate yeah quiet confidence it's not what you see it's what you feel a suit tailored just for you a perfectly timed guy's trip Choosing On Plus nicotine pouches over rough corners and edges. 1:03:25Shannon Sharpe:The Chiefs run roughshod over my Broncos 31-10. This was embarrassing. They couldn't tackle. They couldn't do anything right. Man, they look, you know what? I'm trying to debate who looked worse. Cleveland or the Broncos. It's a toss-up right now. I really can't tell. I ain't finna hold nobody and pretend like I didn't see what I saw. I ain't talking about what has happened. I don't know what's going to happen next week. It's one game. And this one game, they look bad. Joe, you looking at the Broncos, you watch this game. Don't seem like Mahomes had that injury nine months to the day in which he suffered that injury.

1:04:02Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's what I was thinking about. I'm like, you come nine months? Hey, he going to be hurting tomorrow, Joe. You can believe that. He going to be hurt tomorrow, but I thought they controlled the ground game. Y 'all talk about the running back ain't got no value nowadays. That man was Super Bowl MVP last year. How did Seattle let him get up out of that? I have no clue. They didn't want to pay that kind of money because you know I got to pay JSN. I want to reward also Big Cat Williams. And I'm going to have to have some room left because if Sam Darnold plays like we think he's going to play, guess what?

1:04:32Shannon Sharpe:We had to do Spoon. Remember, they made Spoon the highest paid corner. So, you know, you only have so much money to go around, and so you try to spread it and try to spend it where you think it's most needed. And like you said, the running back is valuable, but they felt they can get that kind of production from someone else with less value. We'll see if it works out for them, but it's paying off for Kansas City early. And, Ocho, I think with the run game that Kansas City has, it's going to make Mahomes' job a lot easier. Ooh-wee. It definitely is. They look good. They control the game. I thought their defense was great, considering the fact that I thought the Broncos would put up a much better fight than what they put up tonight, Unc.

1:05:12Shannon Sharpe:You thought that, Joe? Come on, old Joe. I ain't thinking Mahomes going to be out here running around like that, making plays with his legs like that.

1:05:20Joe Johnson:Joe, I told you, Joe. Listen. There he go. There he go now. Hey, no. Stay with me now, Unc. Mahomes, they injured Mahomes, you know, or wounded Mahomes. is still better than 95 % of the NFL quarterbacks outside of the top elite ones. You feel me? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Even if he's a KTL. You understand? Then you got Kenneth Walker Jr., right? Taking some of the pressure off my home. Well, my home doesn't have to do everything. He doesn't have to play Superman because the running game is going well.

1:05:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:05:52Joe Johnson:But we want to pick and choose when we do want to, you know, throw the ball. Right. We working it. But hey, tonight, Joe, remember how Uncato? Tonight we smoking on that Broncos pack.

1:06:05Shannon Sharpe:You know, weed been legal in Colorado. You know what? When I watch this game, I mean, I was most disappointed in the defense. The offense is what it is. Bo looked terrible. Nobody waddled. Waddled didn't look well. Curl and Sutton. I give Lenore, the guy that picked that pass off, Ocho. I'm trying to figure out why did he jump underneath like that in single-high coverage. I can see if it was two-man. He jumped underneath, and it wasn't two-man.

1:06:38Joe Johnson:Hey, reading it, a guy going inside, especially with a spit that tight, there's only one way he's going, huh? You're right. I'm going to hug it. And listen, to be a rookie, to do that, that's something that I call that a veteran move, huh?

1:06:51Shannon Sharpe:Yes, yes. Veteran move. And not only jump inside, Ocho, because the ball got up on him quick. He picked it. A lot of guys, that ball had the same opportunity, and the ball hit the dirt. Yeah. You got to make guys punting for making mistakes. I don't understand. Ocho, when are guys going to stop the ball below your waist and you're trying to catch – you're turning your hands down? Why do they keep doing that? You got to – you turn your hands under.

1:07:18Joe Johnson:Yeah. Listen, we just saw –

1:07:20Shannon Sharpe:Damn, Waddle.

1:07:21Joe Johnson:Yeah, we just saw that with – what was it? Romeo Doves. Doves, yeah. Doves. You know, same thing. Anything below your waist, you got to flip your hands the opposite way. Yes. Opposite way. Now, above your waist and above your waist. I line, boom, you like this. Anything below that, man, bring that thing in.

1:07:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you got to turn them under. Bro, you're a professional. You're a robber team in the NFL, and somebody got to tell you that? That's his fault. Yeah. I'm like, bro, I'm like. And then, Ocho, he had an option route. Why would you get the man playing you? You got all that room inside. Why would you go outside? He's going to use the sideline to shield you. Come on, guys. This was some Bush League action tonight. The Broncos played terrible. The defense couldn't tackle. Look, Kenneth Walker is a phenomenal running back. Yeah. But tonight, he looked like a combination between Barry Sanders and Derrick Henry.

1:08:20Shannon Sharpe:Oh, my God. I'm talking about every time he touched the ball, it was explosive play after explosive play. I mean, listen, I expect, you know, Denver had a top defense last year. I didn't expect to see this tonight, bro. I didn't expect to see this. I'm going to be honest, especially that run defense. You letting that man, that man had 173 rushing yards. Oh, he could have had more. They took him out. They did him a solid. Say, nah, we need you to save some of this. This was embarrassing. I think I speak for all of Bronco country. This was embarrassing. Bo Nix, look, Bo Nix, I didn't even know who this was.

1:08:54Shannon Sharpe:This might have been Bo Nix's worst game. He couldn't hold on to the ball. He couldn't find a receiver. I mean, he's getting pressure. I don't know. He fumbled the ball on the sideline. You'd think he'd have better ball security in the pocket. Nah, you know, let me hold it like a loaf of bread. I fumbled it one time. I got it back because the guys touched the ball out of bounds, so they got to bring it back to where he touched the ball at. But I ain't learned my lesson. Let me do it again. This was awful.

1:09:23Joe Johnson:hey if your team didn't win tonight i don't want to hear you say foot or ball i didn't say it foot or ball hey you took them broncos man i told you what was gonna happen to you boy look like what look like a fish fry hey hey hold on hold on hell travis kelsey turned back

1:09:41Shannon Sharpe:the clock for a little minute didn't he huh yeah yeah yeah yeah but probably about two years ago joe el cho he took that one to the house yeah yeah yeah he ain't got that pick him up put him down no more. He can still get open. Yeah, yeah. I know they had to feel good because I think what they moved into, second all-time? Number two. Jason Whitten. I don't think he's going to be able to stick around long enough to catch Gonzo. Man, Gonzo was so consistent. Even later in his career, he was still putting up 700, 800 yards receiving a season, even though they didn't throw the ball more, but they didn't throw it as much as they throw it now.

1:10:17Shannon Sharpe:You talking about his later years when he played in Atlanta? Yeah, when he was in Atlanta. Yeah, yeah. He was still putting up big numbers. Yeah, that boy was getting down. He was getting to it. But, yeah, I seen Gronk – I mean, not Gronk, Kelsey. I said, damn, Kelsey out there moving today, any man. I know. Boy, it felt so good to get that ball in the end zone because there's nothing better than having a long touchdown run later in your career. You're in year 13, year 14, year 15, and you're a tight – any receiver. I mean, you playing that long, and you have a long – you have a 50-yard or 60-yard touchdown.

1:10:50Shannon Sharpe:like, oh, the old boy still got it. He still has to do a little something. He still has to do something, a little something.

1:10:55Joe Johnson:You know what? It's such a huge boost of confidence, Uncle Joe, to be able to have a long touchdown like that later on in your career where your volume of catches is nowhere near like it was once you was young. Correct. One of the things that hurt Uncle Joe is for you to have a long play like that and expect them to use you the same way they used to and the ball just doesn't come to you like it used to. Man, it don't find you. Like, it don't find you how it used to find you doing Ocho. Not at all. I was thinking about Odell, too, Unk and Joe. Yeah. I think about Odell and how excited and how happy he was to not only make the team, but watching him warm up.

1:11:37Joe Johnson:Seeing that joy in his face, you know? And then think about how the offense, you know, it went on without him, and they didn't use him the way we thought they were. you know if neighbors wasn't going I was for sure okay when neighbors not going then Odell would be you know the the main target okay Malik does play well at least Odell would be the number two or the three and I'm looking look at some of the situations you know I mean he wasn't even on the

1:12:02Shannon Sharpe:field they used you exactly how I thought I was I told you Ocho and you get older you don't get

1:12:07Joe Johnson:those opportunities yeah and I'm not saying nothing was wrong with with a tall receiver I'm I'm assuming he must be young. Last name was Fields. And I was like, I don't understand. I don't understand. But, you know, hey, this business is crazy how it works, Uncle Joe. It's crazy.

1:12:23Shannon Sharpe:You know, once you start bouncing around, they look at you as a journeyman receiver and they treat you as such. You don't get the targets that you once did. And it's not like maybe he can't do it. He's just not going to get the opportunity to show if he can or if he can't. So because he's not getting the opportunity to show that he can or he can't, People automatically assume that he can't. I don't know what he can do. I just know he's not going to get the opportunity to show it. And that's got to be challenging, Ocho, because the fact that, you know, the last time Odell was with the Giants, bro, he was a dominant receiver.

1:12:57Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? He knew he had a few targets coming his way every night. And I think to be in this situation now to where even though all those feelings come back up and you don't get an opportunity to really even, you know, to really even be a number one or even have an opportunity to even make big plays. You feel what I'm saying? You know, that's a hard pill to swallow, bro. I ain't going to lie to you. So I'm sure he would have loved to play Sunday night against the Cowboys. But if he be patient, bro, his opportunities will come. He'll get an opportunity. He'll get a chance. Yeah. And you look at the guys, the defense, they blessed a lot of secondary.

1:13:36Shannon Sharpe:and luxurious need. Yeah. Sometimes it just looks a guy that just plays better when our team knows how to use him. He's in the right way. He's a blitzing corner. He's really good in the slot. He's a great tackler. And I don't know what happened. I know he was injured a lot in Tennessee, Ocho, and I don't know what caused those injuries. But he never – I'm sure the people in Tennessee or even the Tennessee front office are like, hold on. Who is that guy? Yeah. That was the guy that we signed in free agency that we thought we had something that we traded for. I don't know who the guy. That's the guy we thought we was getting.

1:14:14Joe Johnson:Right. You have to also understand, too, Uncle Joe, you got Cee LaSnee was up there playing bump and run all them times, you know, when he was playing under, what's the defensive coordinator name? In Kansas City.

1:14:28Shannon Sharpe:Oh, you talking about for Kansas City? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's in my mind. Golly. It's in my mind, too.

1:14:39Shannon Sharpe:I can't think of go ahead and make your point okay anyway

1:14:42Joe Johnson:most of the time Sneed was allowed to be aggressive Uncle Joe you know when he was with his Kansas City Chiefs the first time he's allowed to be aggressive at the line because he always had help behind him yeah remember they ran that two share almost like a man to man a 55 look you know Spagnola oh Spags yeah I forget that Spags and so Jerry Sneed looked a certain way, especially when it came to playing top receivers and being able to stop him because he was allowed to be aggressive initially, you know, at the line of scrimmage because you got that safety behind you. Now you go to Tennessee, okay.

1:15:21Joe Johnson:They're playing single high. Hey, we're playing single high and you got him in man-to-man and now you're getting exposed because now you're running the defense. You're using them a little different way than what you expected.

1:15:32Shannon Sharpe:what's the general consensus what made you fall in love with it it's like the same thing you can't get mad at a lady you fall in love with a lady and she wear that skimpy stuff she wearing lace she wearing you know what I'm saying she wearing rim shorts what you mean sharp rim shorts rim her ass out okay you fall in love with that then all of a sudden you get her she don't want to do that no no no no no, no, no, no. No, no, no. I know what I like. Do that. They got LeJarrius Sneed, and what they got, what they liked about him, they didn't play that same type of defense. The same thing with Larry Brown.

1:16:14Shannon Sharpe:Larry Brown, they ran quarters coverage in Dallas, and that defense was vaunted. He goes to the Raiders. If you go play for the Raiders and you can't play man coverage, you might as well just go ahead and just pack your bag up and head on up out of town. Hey, yep. They are a man coverage team. So when you fall in love with somebody, if you get somebody in free agency, what did you like about him? Well, you better run the same type of offense or give him the same opportunities on the offensive side that he got where he was that made you fall in love with him. Defensively, you can't get a coverage corner and then ask him to play man to man.

1:16:53Shannon Sharpe:No, bro. You get in the zone corner. You got a zone corner. You got to play him in zone. If you want a man covered, you got to go get somebody that can play coverage. Oh, man, he plays a lot of single-hive safety, Ocho. He plays a lot of press. You go get a zone corner and then try to make him play press and then wonder why he's getting his eyes beat out.

1:17:12Joe Johnson:And you know what, too, Uncle Joe, he's really good. He's really good at it in that scheme when he was playing with Spags, and I think he can do it. I think he's capable of doing it, but just doing it at a high rate and a high volume of just being out there singled up by yourself then having to deal with some of the injuries that were nagging him when he was in Tennessee, that also might have affected him. Yes. Him being back home, he's comfortable. You know, Spag knows how to use him. He's familiar with the system, you know, schematically. So I think they're going to be good. They're going to be good despite the pieces that have left.

1:17:46Joe Johnson:I think that defense is going to be back to maybe top five in the NFL.

1:17:50Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing that's going to help them this year defensively is their ability to run the football. Now, I'm not saying they're going to rush for 220 yards a game, but to have the ability to convert some of those 30 shorts by running the football and not always having to come up with gadgets, Ocho. We got to come up with a shovel pass. We got to misdirection you one way and just try to hit you in the flat the other way. Now we can turn around and hand the ball off to Kenneth Marker, K-9, and he can pick up a first down on a third and short or a fourth and short, whereas before we had to get creative to try to create plays.

1:18:23Shannon Sharpe:Patrick Mahomes has never had a 1 ,000-yard rusher. He was on the team when Hunt was the running back, but he wasn't the starter. So since he's been the starter, he's never had a 1 ,000-yard rusher. He's going to have one now. And I agree with you guys. Now their ability to run the football and to play action off of that. It's hard to play action on Joe when you can't run the football. Like, why are we stepping up? You can't run the ball. Yeah. But Kansas City was impressive tonight. I was very disappointed in my Broncos. Everything that you guys are saying in the chat is deserved because they were awful.

1:19:03Shannon Sharpe:They were Bronco country. I'm disappointed. Hey, Joe, you letting on slide tonight. Yo day coming too, Ocho. I don't know what you're talking about.

1:19:11Joe Johnson:Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Who day coming? Hey. Yo day. No, it ain't coming no time soon, I can tell you that. Now, listen, when it comes to me, Uncle Joe, no disrespect. Listen, you can't make fun of the Dolphins because we understand the Dolphins is a rebuilding stage. The team's going to lose it like Joe's Cowboys and Uncle Joe Buccos are supposed to be two teams that are supposed to be vying for a spot not only in the playoffs but making a Super Bowl run based off of. I thought you said it was one game, Ocho.

1:19:39Shannon Sharpe:It is in one week, man.

1:19:41Joe Johnson:You act like we out of it after one week. Damn. Hey, Joe, calm down, Turbo. Nah, nah, nah. I know it's only one week, but the way you was talking, like y 'all were going to Super Bowl 200.

1:19:53Shannon Sharpe:Look, hey, you better watch what you say too now because them Bengals mess around and go on the street and you come on here crying. He know they're capable of doing that. Yeah.

1:20:04Joe Johnson:Wait, excuse me. Excuse me. Then he come on here crying. One thing about the Bengals, right? Most of the time, what's our problem at the beginning of the season? We start off what? In the hole. Y 'all started off last year, won your first game last year. Then what happened? I tell you, you know what? I'll tell you one thing, and I'm standing on business. You hear me, Uncle Joe? I'm going, I'm in New York right now, right? Right. So I work today, I work tomorrow, and I'm going straight from here. I'm going straight to Houston. I'm going to get them boys prepared. I'm going to get the city of Houston prepared for that Cincinnati invasion and what's going to happen to them.

1:20:39Joe Johnson:We. Joe, we finna win that, boy. I'm telling you right now. So this upcoming weekend when y 'all play Houston, y 'all finna win that? Yeah. are we going to win it? Joe, matter of fact, not only are we going to win it, we're going to win it decisively, Joe. You hear me?

1:20:54Shannon Sharpe:I don't know. Houston coming out for a year.

1:20:56Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, you know how you study for a test and you can't wait to go back to school because you know you studied for the test? Yeah. And you can't take it?

1:21:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:21:03Joe Johnson:That's how confident I am in the Bengals being the Texans. And that's no disrespect to the Texans fans. And disrespect. Anytime somebody say no disrespect, disrespectful ish coming out of their mouth. No, I didn't say anything disrespectful. You hear me? Stay with me. You're talking about your team going to beat them. That's disrespectful. No, it ain't. It's just me giving my honest opinion on what's going to happen. That's a fact.

1:21:23Shannon Sharpe:Hey, I don't know about that one, Ocho. Houston coming off that L, bro. They need one. Yeah, they ain't been to go 2-0.

1:21:28Joe Johnson:I don't know. Have you not seen the Cincinnati Bengals defense?

1:21:32Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man.

1:21:32Joe Johnson:Did you not see them last week? Y 'all look good at home, Ocho. This a road test for y 'all. This a good test for y 'all on the road. Hey, you do realize there's no such thing as in the weight game for us. Wherever we go, we make it off. Oh, man, come on, Ocho. Come on. Come on. What y 'all talking about?

1:21:47Shannon Sharpe:He want to be a team that they should get behind so bad. He know he a regional team. Hey, I'm just telling you. He want to make it seem like they know the name. Or the Alabama or Ohio State of Texas team that travel. You know what? The damn Bengals ain't traveling.

1:22:06Joe Johnson:You know what? I don't want to be braggadocious. That's a new word for me, Joe. Yeah, you being very braggadocious. Very braggadocious. But I'm going to sit back. I'm going to let things play out because I'm not on the field. No, you're not. I can't control the outcome, but I know what's going to happen. Now you can't control the outcome.

1:22:22Shannon Sharpe:Don't start talking about, I don't mean that. It's no disrespect. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm the most disrespectful-ish, but you know what I'm saying? I can't control the outcome. I can't tell the way you were just talking a minute ago. Now he want to backpedal. Now he backpedaling. Now he on his bicycle. Now he needs some help.

1:22:41Joe Johnson:Hey, listen, we've been on here long enough. We've been on here long enough together as one to understand 98 % of the time. When I say something's going to happen, you do realize I've been right 98 % of the time, right? Man, you got to chill, bro. You made a few ones right. I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you, Joe. But y 'all don't want to listen, huh? Y 'all want to keep going against your little nephew. I know I'm like your little nephew and you don't really respect my opinion, huh?

1:23:07Shannon Sharpe:I'm telling you. Man, what you talking about Mahone boy coming off that injury? How did he look? Look, through nine months to the day, ACL, LCL, that's major, major surgery. A lot of times guys take a full year, and they still don't look like what he looked like tonight. What did you think about how Mahomes played and how did he look?

1:23:25Joe Johnson:Honestly, Uncle Joe, I think Mahomes looked good. He might not have been 100%, but even Mahomes not at 100 % is better than most in the NFL that's playing the quarterback position, just to be honest with you. There are some throws I know he would like back. He looks a little different, especially in his wide stance in his base when he's throwing the ball. I see maybe two balls get batted down as opposed to him not being anticipating and throwing to the lane knowing the hands are going to be coming up. Outside, they look good. Look at him running the ball. Yeah. I was nervous when he took off with the ball.

1:24:00Joe Johnson:I was too. He did it multiple times.

1:24:02Shannon Sharpe:I think that caught the Broncos off guard because I don't think they anticipated him running as much as he did as early as he did. And if you notice him later in his career, as he's gotten older, he's run more. He's running more now than he ever did earlier in his career. He'll take off running. They'll have design runs for it. So give him credit for taking his rehab extremely serious, getting himself prepared to go. because I think the opening day was always his goal day. Right. It wasn't a question of whether or not he's going to come back. He didn't want to miss any time. He wanted to be there for the start of the season and watch this thing go all the way through.

1:24:47Shannon Sharpe:And here he is. And he looked good tonight, especially running the football. His legs are not quite where they need to be as far as him throwing the football. But the thing is, he throws the ball off of different platforms. He throws the ball off balance. So he's going to have some balls that dive on him. He's going to have some balls. That one he overshot. I don't know what he saw. I don't know if Thornton was supposed to pull up. The one he overshot and throw the pick on. Yeah, yeah. Remember you talked about the Worthy. That was Worthy.

1:25:15Joe Johnson:Yeah, I meant to say Worthy.

1:25:16Shannon Sharpe:Worthy, number one.

1:25:16Joe Johnson:Yeah, Worthy went to the post, and he thought he was going to run that dig. Right. And the safety was dead to right, because if he did throw the post, oh, that's six.

1:25:26Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:25:27Joe Johnson:They just sitting there flat-footed with Worthy going full speed. Screaming by him. Screaming. He's flat-footed chilling.

1:25:36Shannon Sharpe:But if you think about it, guys, this is something we haven't seen from the Chiefs in a while. They ain't take no shots over the top. What have you ever known on Andy Reid and Team Doc? When you got Worthy, a guy that ran 4-2-1, and you got Thornton that ran 4-2-6, you got two guys that could burn out. and they didn't take that one shot. Hey, think about it though. Maybe they ain't taking no shots. Hell, they didn't have to. The run game was so explosive. Think about it. You know, I ain't going to lie. To start the game, I thought they were going to boot Mahomes out early, but man, it was a heavy dose of the run game early.

1:26:14Shannon Sharpe:And then once that opened up, you know, Mahomes got into a nice little rhythm. He ain't the quickest or the fastest, but he is real deceptive. And to what he's trying to get, he got them little swift moves in the pocket. Hey, man, he look good out there. The only thing I worry about, you know, adrenaline can get you going through this first game. Because, you know, this is anticipation. He's been anticipating on this. But as the season goes, and we talk about we get to about week five or six, I wonder how's that body going to be holding up and how you're going to be feeling. Yeah.
