Guest backgrounds
Not applicable (no guests).
Key claims
- Bills scored touchdowns on multiple straight possessions early, with Detroit’s defense unable to stop drives.
- Josh Allen had a historic stat line: 3 passing TDs plus 3 rushing TDs in the team’s first two games since 1960.
- Detroit’s defensive issues included blown assignments/communication and missing safeties; the back end “was a problem.”
- Joey Porter Jr. may be using injury/conditioning as leverage because the Steelers are reportedly offering limited guaranteed money (around $33M), while he believes he can get more elsewhere.
Notable examples
- Aiden Hutchinson’s sack/forced fumble (recovered by Buffalo).
- Bills’ long drives: 79 yards/8 plays and later clock-chewing drives.
- Lions’ offense still produced (Goff 26/38, 327, 4 TD; St. Brown 9 catches, 142, 2 TD), but defensive stops never came.
- Porter leaving practice after warming up; discussion of potential trade (minimum first-rounder) and possible IR/tag strategy.

3:14James Harrison:I'm doing great, brother Debo. Doing great. Another great day. Talk football with my good man. Yes, sir. Yes, Sir, brother. Yeah. What you do the last couple days, man? I know we ain't been on. What you do the last couple days? You going to do anything interesting? Man, yes. You know, we had Joey's birthday party. We had the weekend. You know what I'm saying? So I did my boy's birthday party. That was amazing. We went to Lucky Strikes. Lucky Strikes. Yeah, yeah. Did some bowling. You know what I'm saying? Did some arcade games. That was dope. And then I'm getting ready for football practice. I've been setting up my wristbands with the plays to make sure my boy's practice today is run efficiently.
3:51Mm-hmm.
3:52James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? You think that's going to work? Okay. I think it's going to work, man. I'm trying to make it as simple as possible. What you been up to, Debo? It's going to work, man. I ain't been up to nothing, man. Just a little bit of running here and there and ain't really doing too much of nothing. Okay. I was on set shooting some little something all day yesterday. A little shoot. But that wasn't that long. Maybe eight, nine hours, something like that. Oh, man. Wasn't that bad, brother. That's a shift. I got home in time to watch Buffalo go ahead and go ahead and put them hands on them lions, man.
4:26And feet. Yeah, hands and feet, brother. They came out the gate. Like, dude, who was it? Josh Allen? Hey, he was doing his thing, man. Out the gate, brother. Actually, he did more running than the first thing. Anyway, let's jump into it, man. Yes. First down, man, he did a quick little dump. They dumped the pass to him. Dude went about nine yards. Listen, they blitzed on that play too, dude. I'm like, this is what they trying to do? Like, they just go ahead and blitz the man? Like, next play, they go ahead and hand that thing to Cooks. Man, he took off a 12. And then they got another player over there too in Detroit.
5:05He back. He back. He went on ahead and got that good sack. Forced the bubble, but they was able to recover that thing, dog. I don't know how they recovered it because I saw it. I thought dude fell onto the ball.
5:16James Harrison:it must have got in there and worked him for it or something, bro. Aiden Hutchinson was the one bright spot in that defense. That's it. He was getting after the quarterback. He was working. And that's when you get that strip, positive it was looking good. Defense, okay. Recover it. Ain't recover it. That was bad because the next play, that boy Allen, he scrambled for 13. They ended up getting a holding penalty that added more yards onto it. That gave him the first down on a second and 15 that it was. The next second down, he scrambles again for another 12. Yes. Josh Allen, legs. Yeah, bro. And then I think it was, was it Shakur?
5:54He hit him for 13. And Cooks went and ran another 10. Allen scrambled again for 14. Then you got, what was it, the first down? Or they got a first down right there. They do the sneak. Next play, touchdown, 7-0 right there. Allen, he was, what, 40? He had 40 yards rushing on there. On the first drive. On the first drive with a touchdown. And with, what was it, two or two, 22 yards, something like that? Yes. Ten plays. Eight first downs. Crazy. Crazy. Detroit get the ball, man, and I'm thinking they're going to come out there and do something, man. And Buffalo said, uh-uh. Y 'all get a little something on this first down.
6:31I think it might have been two, three yards. Second down, they went on ahead and they just stuffed my man Gibbs. No game. And then they went on ahead, put them hands on guard. Sack. Sack. Get up out of here. Get up out of here. They got to punt the rock back over. Buffalo comes back out there. Dude, seven plays. No, eight plays. 79 yards. Only took off three minutes off the clock. Yes. And they scored again because Allen.
7:00James Harrison:Missed Q. Yeah. Missed Q. Because Allen. No, no. Allen ended up missing Shakur on that first one, dude. He was wide open on that first play. He just missed. For sure. Yeah. And then he ended up hitting. What was it? Kincaid for 25. Kincaid on the second and nine. Farmer for 43. yard touchdown, that's really it. They jump up 14-0 on them. That's what I'm saying. Bust they on the blown coverage for the touchdown. Dude, they had a lot of crazy looking coverage out there in that first half, though. The secondary was looking real, real suspect. Yeah, they was looking real suspect. Detroit, get back out there, man, I think they ended up giving the ball to Gibbs.
7:37I think he went for like 16 on the first play. Then he went for 9. and then go and do some goofy stuff and you get sacked. You got the tight end sitting over here blocking this man one-on-one?
7:49James Harrison:Mm-hmm. Huh? I'm just mad as a win all day. Keep giving the ball to Gibbs right now. He's touched it two times and we are right now short of the first down and you gonna go do some goofy and get strip sacked. Go and do some goofy. You know. Go and do some goofy, man. He ain't even good. He just got through. You all the way back there. It's third down. Now you snap the ball over, dude. head or something like that. Golf is not the most athletic, but that was a high, fast snap. Yeah, I ain't gonna lie. They got to punch the rock back over there, man. They get great field. Great pump return. Yeah, because dude returned it.
8:25It was only, what, a 29, 28, 30-yard return, but they put him at the 43 of Buffalo over there. Oh, sorry, of Detroit over there. Short field. They get that man cooks the ball. They go nine.
8:40James Harrison:Then they go boot. to Kincaid. And that's what I'm saying. They got you off balance. They can run the ball. They can pass the ball. Everybody, you're off balance. They got you at their mercy. Hey, listen. We wasn't done. He hit Coleman for 13. Then I think it was a third and six, I think from the nine. And Allen gets picked off, but they got a holding penalty on the defense. Self-inflicted wounds. Self-inflicted wounds. Another self. Now it's first and goal. I think it's like the four or something. They sacked him, man. But holding. Holding again. Self-inflicted wounds. They go. Now they, what is it?
9:18It's like first and goal at the two or something. They end up scoring on the second play, I think it was. And Allen threw it to Knox. I think it was first down. I thought they was going to try and sneak it in. I ain't going to lie. But it's 21-0, dude. 21-8. Game over with, man. You know, in Madden, bro, old school, old school. You know, that was, it's it. game over with, right? Yeah. 21-nothing, that's... That's giving up the sticks. You got to give up the sticks. Give up the sticks, bro.
9:46James Harrison:Some people say that they give you a chance, though. You get a possession. You get a possession. You get a possession. You get a possession. Okay, so, hey, here go the crazy thing. Detroit go ahead. They get that possession. They get that possession. They finally go down there. They go 12 plays, 70 yards. It took them almost seven minutes to do it. Gibbs hit them for 19. that got called back though. Yep. That put them at a first and 20. I didn't think they was going to get over that right there. Me either. I thought that ended the drive. They digged out with a 12, with a 13-yard gain and then I think it was a 10-yard gain or something like that.
10:23Mm-hmm. They end up scoring the touchdown. I think it was Goff. He hit Gibbs. He went on head, shook it off for 11 yards.
10:30James Harrison:Gibbs was running them angle routes and then Gibbs came out the backfield and not angle. I'm running the seam route. It would just get the ball into my best player's hands and make him make great. I ain't going to say anything. They got St. Brown over there now. Don't forget. Oh, no, no, no, no. For sure. And that's why they didn't use him yet. Hey, he hasn't even caught the ball yet, I don't think. You got to get it to him a little earlier. But, yeah, that's why I was looking like that. They get that 14 down. So it's 21. It's 21 to 7. Yes. It's good. Everything going great. Buffalo get out there.
11:01No, to hell with that. The defense, Detroit's defense go out there and say, hey, how many plays y 'all want before y 'all?
11:07James Harrison:This is continuous, non, not stopping nothing. This is my fourth drive. Every time the Bills get the ball, the Bills are going to do what the Bills are going to do. That's what it's looking like. So at least Detroit, I mean, at least the Bills defense was at the beginning. They're stopping them, stopping them. And then the Lions going to get on their fourth drive, finally get a touchdown. But there's no, there's no, there's no backbone. None. For the Detroit defense. They came out there. They said, man, this is getting too close. They said four plays, 68 yards. What was it? Just over two minutes.
11:40Touchdown. Here are Cooks, 20. Here are Cooks, 35. Here are Cooks, 7. Yes. Come on now. And then third and – what was it? Second, sorry. Second and 13. That was only because it was a hold, whatever it was. He ended up going 18, 16 yards for the touchdown. Yes. Then something actually went in. They missed that.
12:01James Harrison:They missed the PAT. The only bad thing that happened in the whole first half for the Bills. But look, this is the part that had me laughing, Debo. Did you see after this, this is four drives, four touchdowns straight from the Bills, and they showed Detroit defensive coordinator on the sideline talking to them, looking at the iPad like this. Guys, what in the hell are we doing out here? And I'm like, yeah, this coach is pissed. There's nothing. What did we say? Somebody's doing something wrong. Is it being coached? Because people are running scot-free. There's run. There's pass. I'm looking at coach laughing because I'm like, yeah, that's a confused coach, and those are players over there that everybody looks confused.
12:38Yeah, yeah. I guess Detroit, they were able to second half. I guess they got like a field goal, and then they came in the third quarter. I think it ended up being 74 yards, 11 plays. They ended up scoring a touchdown. That cut it down to 10 points. It was a 17-27 by then at the third. Yep. And then they go ahead and let Buffalo get out there and just chew up the clock for almost eight and a half minutes. Them boys drive down there and score another touchdown. They done doubled up on them. It's 34. 34 to 17. Like, dude, they couldn't stop a nosebleed. They couldn't stop a nosebleed, Debo. It was bad.
13:18It was bad. I don't understand. Like, at some point, like, stand up and fight. Just get into a fight. Just get into a fight. Hey, just fight. Just fight, Joe. Just fight. Just fight back. I don't care, man. Detroit went down there. The offense trying to keep it close. They trying to keep it close. They scored another touchdown. Now it's within 10 again, 24-34.
13:41James Harrison:That's what I'm saying. And that's when he starts. Second half, Amaral St. Brown starts getting him to rock. Dude, no question, bro. Like, hey, you got these players out here, man, and you ain't. Well, they kind of made it to where you couldn't really get Gibbs like you would want to give him the ball. But they found other ways to get the ball to him. But again, the defense, it's 24-34. They go out there and drop an egg and let them boys get another tutty. 41. Warning, the following song has been rated dangerously catchy and may not be suitable for grownups. A, B, C, D. In the morning, brush your teeth.

They're concerned that, one, they have dementia. and the other one is do I have ADHD? There is unprecedented promise with regard to cannabis and cannabinoids

19:05James Harrison:What is it? No, no, I think this was their first time actually now, Debo, they finally got to stop. I know, but they got to stop. By the time they did that, though, the next time it came to it, they ended up letting Buffalo score again before they got another one. It ended up getting to that 21-point lead again. Yep. So it didn't really matter that Buffalo scored that little touchdown at the end with just over two minutes left. Like, yeah, it's 31-41. You got two minutes left. You ain't about to get 10 points. No. Game over with, man. No, for sure, for sure. Stop playing with me. Y 'all, like, at the end, you just sitting up there trying to make it look not as bad as it was.
19:47You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Josh Allen out there, he just having this way. 20 or, what is it, 31? 20 or 31? 248 yards. Three passing touchdowns and another two touchdowns rushing. Man had 68 yards. Like, making him, I think it was, this man is the first. since Josh Allen is the first player, NFL player, to have three touchdowns passing plus three touchdown rushing in the team's first two games of a season since 1960. This man makes history, bro. This man makes history. Cook's out here doing them dirty. He got 21 carries from 135. Yes. He got old Dalton Kincaid out there. He gets seven for 95 with a tutty.
Read the full transcript
20:36Cook got a tutty. Like, what are we talking about? Buffalo had their way in the run game, the pass game. Like, this loss is real heavy over there on the defense, brother. It's real heavy over there on the defense. It don't really matter what the offense did over there. And it wouldn't make it so bad. It's like, dude, Detroit's offense didn't play bad, bro.
20:58James Harrison:1 ,000%. He went 26 for 38, 327, four touchdowns, no interception. Yes. He just had 52 yards, one touchdown receiving. St. Brown went, wow. That man got 9 receptions for 142 two-tuddies. Yeah. What are we talking about? Like, we're speaking this. This is what I'm saying, Debo. At the beginning of the game, when you get a 21-point lead, when the Bills drove down every single possession and did not only just get stopped, not only didn't get a field goal, they didn't punt. They scored touchdowns, three straight possessions when they first got the ball. Detroit's defense didn't stand up at all. So we can say in the second half, obviously, we see Detroit.
21:43James Harrison:They started scoring. They started moving the ball. Buffalo's defense just made some stops. There was zero stops at all. If they had a possession for Buffalo had the ball, they were going to drive down and they were going to score. So it's more like Detroit, have some backbone. On the end of the day, your offense is going to go out there. They're going to score points. You said the 31, they had 24 in the meaningful, but they still converted a 4 for 18 on that last drive to drive down and still get the touchdown. So that's a real drive. They really converted that to make it 31 points. So I'm like, if you score 31 points and have zero turnovers and you're a quarterback that throws for four touchdowns, I'm expecting us to walk out of this stadium with a dunk.
22:23James Harrison:Do you know what I'm saying? So it's all flows and ebb and flows to the game. So those first three drives when they couldn't get nothing really going, you know what I'm saying? That's good plays by Buffalo. They get paid too. They're making stops. They're making a couple of plays, being able to stop drives and make them punt. When they punt and they get the ball to the Bills, they're going to make a drive, seven minutes, ten plays, continuous first downs. Josh Allen scrambling if he needs to. Hand the ball off the cook. He's going to get you nine. He's going to get you eight. You know what I'm saying?
22:53James Harrison:Now you can run the play action. People running scot-free down your defense. You're looking nuts on Detroit as the defense. So that's why I was laughing. But after five possessions of straight touchdowns, you're looking at your defensive coordinator. Everybody's looking at each other like, yo, stop. Somebody help me. Somebody stop somebody. Because the offense, they're like, we're going to end up, they're seeing things that are stopping us, but we're going to get going. Gibbs is not doing bad. Golf is finding open receivers. So we're going to end up getting able to start scoring touchdowns. But can you stop a nosebleed defense?
23:24James Harrison:This is the games when you're looking at this defense like, okay, Both of us are getting paid. Both of us are getting paid. We need one of you guys. We're not pointing fingers. We got to go out here and score touchdowns. That's our job. You guys got to go out there and get us the ball. They had a little bit of a, well, I would say a good, I wouldn't say it's, well, it was, it was, it's a little defense there, I can say, because they did have both of their safeties out. I think Joseph and Branch was both out. Yes. So that's a big thing. Huge. So, that's – I understand that. So, and then I think ended up – one of the other guys ended up going out.
24:02I think it was Maddox. He ended up going out with an injury. Yes. So, yes, they were definitely – it showed. Hey, and your boy, Terry on Honor, they ain't got any music. So, I mean, you know, he over in – we're at Seattle, right? Yeah.
24:17James Harrison:I don't – yeah. That's where, you know, if they – your offense is still – your offense is looking good, Detroit. like you didn't get the ball to Amaran St. Brown in the first half. Got it to him in the second half. You got the ball to Gibbs. You got the ball to your playmakers. You know what I'm saying? Your tight ends. Everybody's looking good. Laporta. You know what I'm saying? So you were good on offense. Your defense, you couldn't stop anybody. And I'm understanding with your DBs, your corners, you're missing safeties. But do you think that it's going to – the communication, like there's a lot of stuff that was communication and there was some stuff that was just, it looked like skill.
24:56James Harrison:So, I mean, you're going to have to get some, maybe with this team is where we're looking at, you know, there's corners that I know that are nice, that can help squads out. But with this, it's Buffalo offense did great. Tight ends. Just to having people off balance with Josh Allen, having James Cook, I think James Cook and the offensive line is underappreciated because he was going, Deebo, untouched into the secondary a lot of the times. And then he got speed. He got vision. I'm like, nobody's touching, bro. He's getting to the second level. Now he's just hauling ass. I'm like, dog, those are gaping holes that he's running through.
25:36James Harrison:So he got time. And then with the play actions with Josh Allen, now, boom, your play action, you're having these tight ends that, man, you're coming up because James Cook is running. Then Coleman's starting to look a little better. More going down. Coleman's going to have to step up. Because I think as they're outside, the one thing they don't have is a real outside receiver in Buffalo. I think Coleman, he's been, that's somebody that they like, that he's coming along. But as a true number one, I think DJ Moore was going to help him out a lot. But him going down may hurt their offense. But having Josh Allen with James Cook with that line, shit.
26:10James Harrison:People, I don't know, people is open. So I think it's looking good. Yeah. The crazy thing is that even over there in Detroit, like you said, they had a short week. I think they played on Monday or whatever. The defense did not – they didn't get used to it. Actually, it was Sunday night. The defense didn't adjust well. And the offense, I think they adjusted far better. And when you think about it, bro, they actually had, I think it was two or three guys that were supposed to be starters. You had the guy, the offensive lineman that ended up – they lost one in training camp. They lost him in August.
26:46I think that's Mays. He was the center. And then he's on IR. So they had that person replaced. On top of that, they ended up losing, I think, what is it? The guard, Mahogany, Christian Mahogany. Like, they lost him in the game in New Orleans against, like, so, like, and then I think their first rounder was out. So the offense, like, did pretty well. Like, the defense, like, y 'all got to do something, bro. Like, I don't know what's going on over there. Like, two of your safeties is I understand that, but, like, damn, that's where they was getting hit, too, though. So I can understand. Like, hey, Joe.
27:26Yeah. Safety, Brady. You cannot have no mental lapses like that, bruh, because now they go strike the band up. I can mess around and miss something up front because I got the safety. That's why you the safety. You the last thing.
27:41James Harrison:You the last line of defense. You the last line of defense, man. I can't have you out there. If you don't do nothing else, stay deep. Don't let nothing behind you, baby. You can't let nothing behind you. If you let anything behind you, it's going to be trouble, brother. Yeah, man. It's going to be serious trouble. And that's the first thing that the head coach said. He was like, yeah, we had blown assignments. No, he said the back end was a problem. And then you had, I think it was Reed, he was talking about, yeah, like communication, blown assignments, like explosion plays, Like, you add that, I think they had 10 penalties, all that other stuff.
28:19Because, dude, when you look at it, golf was balling. The offense was doing it. They ain't, you know, early they didn't. But, hell, they couldn't get back on the field after they got shut down the one or two times that they went out there. Yes.
28:32James Harrison:It's two, it's three phases of the game. It's special teams, it's offense, and it's defense. So, you're hoping that they can get the ball back to you. They can get a stop. When you're not rolling, they can get somebody, get the ball back to you quickly. When you're on the bench and you're out there for three plays, you're trying to get a drive started, you punt, and you're on the bench for another eight minutes watching this drive and they walk it down, score. You don't get out there, you get a first down maybe, and then they get a stop. Your defense is trying to – you're bouncing off each other.
29:00James Harrison:So for them not to be able to score at the beginning and then the second half, they put up points. They're scoring 31. We got drives going and getting it to St. Brown, getting it to Gibbs. Your defense – help stop something. Help me. Help me. Like, they got to the red zone five times. They were five for five in the red zone. Make them kick a field goal. You know what I'm saying? Like, let them get three. Don't let them get seven. You know what I'm saying? It was just no stop. So you got to be able to get some stops on D. Something. Yeah, man. They'll figure it out. I hope they'll figure it out.
29:32I hope they'll figure it out because you can't. They look. Listen, if you told me at the beginning of the game, Joe. These are other people's problems. Yeah. If you told me at the beginning of the game, hey, listen, Crystal Ball said y 'all go get 31. Oh, for real? Oh, we winning. Yep. Goff going to throw for four touchdowns. Yeah. And ain't no interception, four touchdowns. Just tell me what the offense that. Oh, we winning. Oh, we got that. For sure. Y 'all ain't telling me we was giving up almost a five-piece with six, seven touchdowns down there. You know what I'm saying? Yes. Man, we going to go on over here to Pittsburgh, brother.
30:05Oh, look. Joey Porter Jr., he left the opening portion of the Steelers practice yesterday with the trainer. I guess he warmed up for 30 minutes before he left. We got a little video of it. Him warming up, I guess.
30:25They making like it was that fast. They hating. Yo, Joe, if you're a nephew, okay, and you're in the position that he's in right now, and you know knowing what you've seen especially in the market of what has been going on with with corners and we assume I guess that what we we've heard is true about them basically saying that they're only going to guarantee 33 million and what we know where uh Joey came out and was Like, yeah, he was never trying to reset the market. Like, what do you think is the best move here? What do you think? If you're in that position, you're him. What's your move? What's your move, Joe?
31:20James Harrison:First, Debo, let me see. Because it's personal. It's personal. So I want to ask you, if you were Jody Porter Jr., what would you do? Let me switch over. If I'm him and I'm in his position, bro. And I'm looking around, you know, I'm thinking, hey, man, this is where I should be. This is where, you know what I'm saying? Even if, like, and you're talking 33. Honestly, man, if that's what it is, that's a true life one-year deal. And as me being him looking into the market and I'm like, yeah, I ain't playing for this. Now, we done got to where we're at now. It don't matter. We're here. we're here so now that we're here it's no going back it's it's it's no it's no backing out of this so you're either i'm going to have to stick to where i'm at i can't rather i'm hurt or not i can't practice i cannot practice because as far as i'm thinking as far as i feel it's 31 other teams out there.
32:32There's 31 other teams out there that I feel or I know will give me more than even what I'm asking for. And, you know, can't nobody tell you how your body feels. Like no trainer can tell you how your body feels. No coach can tell you how the owner, nobody can tell you how your body feels. Like that feeling is that that's, that's your body period. So it's, it is what it is. And then if it's not just total body in this contract, I definitely can't step out there because I'm on a one year, four mil right now. There's no way I'm stepping out there. Yeah.
33:09James Harrison:So, Debo, basically, I think if I'm Joey Porter Jr., by this point now, I'm kind of babysitting. Warning. The following song has been rated dangerously catchy and may not be suitable for grownups. A, B, C, D. In the morning, brush your teeth. A, B, C, D. They're concerned that, one, they have dementia, and the other one is, do I have ADHD? There is unprecedented promise with regard to cannabis and cannabinoids

38:07James Harrison:I would have to, it's coming, you have to come out. That's the problem. You got to ask for a trade. You can't demand a trade. You can ask for it. That's not how you guys can ask for a trade yet. If I was Joey Porter Jr., I would ask for a trade now. Because in simple math, this is what it stands by. We were all playing the game and trying to figure out what was going on. I was hoping in my mind that we would get up to a better number than this and that we would have Joey Porter Jr. sign for the contract. And they would have figured out the guaranteed and that would have happened. It has not happened.
38:44James Harrison:Now we are into the season and the Steelers are still not budging. And this is a business. And I love Joey Porter Jr. And I think he's willing and deserving of a contract. But now it's the business side of Joey Porter Jr. is not bigger than the Pittsburgh Steelers. So they have him under contract right now still as we sit here today for$4 million. And for him, he's worth more than$33 million guaranteed if that's what the Steelers offered to pay him. He has people in his locker room, Nick Herbick, that are on his team in his same draft class that made four years,$100 million. And his total guarantee is$42 million.
39:25James Harrison:If you're Joey Porter Jr. and you're, like, everybody on his team understands and we will hope that he gets paid. But when the Steelers are sitting there with him under contract right now on his team, in the cap for him to play, he's looking at it like, if I go out there and get hurt, I'm playing a$4 million deal, I need to go get my bag. So there's other 31 other teams out there that will be willing to pay me that contract. Y 'all can go get what you need to, hopefully a first round pick. Because what is my value out there? Go see what my value is. Because I think for Joey Porter, for a lot of other teams, something's going to have to, but he's going to have to make it loud now because the Steelers, when they take him off of now, they're going to either have to put him in IR because he's saying like, okay, his back, this is the situation now of playing.
40:12James Harrison:When Joey Porter now is not talking, they didn't say it's about his back anymore. They're saying it's about conditioning. So now when he leaves practice, like you said the other day, Joey Porter, now he can, like you said, we don't know he could, his back could retweet. Hey man, he can tell his back is tricky. Back super tricky. Back super tricky. It could have went out, you know what I'm saying? you can't that's the same what you're saying but you're gonna have to then the Steelers this time what are you gonna do are we gonna have to put them on IR now because you don't know how here's my thought on the IR I don't think I don't I don't I don't think the IR happens unless the what is the trade deadline October or something October 14th or something like that whatever that trade deadline is so from word on the street is that the Steelers are open to actually do a trade but they're open to do a trade that is favorable for them, obviously.
41:05And I think that minimum trade is a first rounder. And I guess there's not anyone that is willing to do a one right now. And with the one guy that we did that we had to report on that said they were looking for maybe a one and a player or a one and something else, then if that's really what they're looking for, then I'm not doing that. I'm not doing one plus. You know what I'm saying? another another player because that's just not that's just not where i'm at that that's just not where i would be at with it and you know unless i could get i would take a one here's the crazy thing i would take a one i'm switching to i'm the stillers now i would take a one if i'm the stillers if it's miami because i know i'm getting a top three to five pick because miami ain't go do nothing now i'm taking just the one if it's anything else i'm not doing that and when you add that on top of he has not actually asked for a trade he has not actually set out so you can't go and ask for a trade and say you're hurt and that's who's who's who's who's going to have a logical explanation for saying okay you're asking for a trade but you're hurt like that you know what i'm saying so now them being open to a trade and them actively looking for a trade themselves then that's something totally different but if he was to go and say yo i won't trade it now you can't you can't use the back you may actually have to sit out and not and not get paid and lose something you see what i'm saying like it's gonna it's gonna it's just gonna come down to what we said on or what i said on tuesday bro like you are in a position where this is where he's at as a player this is the only power he has is to sit out and that but as a player that is your only power but when it come down to it and you look at this worst case scenario everything that could go wrong or everything that could go against you the things that can go against you are too great of the things that can actually work for you because you're hoping that they say you know what We're going to go ahead and we're going to trade you.
43:18We're going to be reasonable. We're going to do the thing that would help you more than it would help us. And if it's me, you want to go here and we go do this. I'm hurt, back hurt, whatever it may be. Okay, trade deadline come. I don't find what I need or want for you. Now, after the trade deadline come, I'm going to IR you. I'm going to IR you. Now, as soon as the season is over with, I'm going to franchise you. I got you for four and then I got you for 23. And if you want to be a real prick after that, that would be real prickish. He can be tagged again. Now, the hard thing is, is you sit out a whole year now.
44:00They tag you again. You have no choice but to play on that tag. Because if you sit out for two years straight, you're looking at a prove it deal across the board, probably for at least a year, if not two. and when it come down to it like we said big bank take little bank yes they got big bank over there and this is not where like i would have thought it going for sure one thousand percent and this is the worst case scenario where it could go yeah because it's happening now in real time
44:35James Harrison:the steelers have never said that they're changing their status on negotiating and contracts during the season. So my whole thing was when we had that deadline, because that's when, okay, we're moving. There's chance. There's always something that can happen at the last hour. Last hour has passed. So now he didn't play in the first game. And we're saying, we're trying to figure out, okay, it's up in the air, why it's not happening. I'm thinking from my perspective, it's contract based. The whole time when the Steelers are knowing, Joey Porter Jr., when he says, when we signed the deal, would you be able to play?
45:06James Harrison:Oh, I'd be able to be ready to good and go. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's just kind of the obvious side of it. But when you're saying, like, okay, my back, that's just you understanding that it's a contract. Teams and GMs, Omar and them, they're not dumb. Everybody, when we're talking and other teams are seeing why Joey Porter's not out to the point, they're not dumb. They know that he's worried about it's a contract negotiation. It's not really a back. So, you know what I'm saying? But you don't know that. You know what I'm saying? Because your back is something where that's the thing that the players can do.
45:39James Harrison:So, for Joey Porter Jr. and me, it's really, I'm sad at this point because I'm like, yeah, because it's a business and I want him to get his bag. I want him and I know he deserves to get paid. But now you're playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers under contract right now. So, it hasn't happened. So, I'm trying to figure out how you can possibly get your bag and without you playing, you're under contract. So legitimately, they have you by the rights of you. You're going to have to go out there and play. You were about to say it right then. They got you by the balls. They got you by the balls. And like you said, Debo, they can have you by the balls next year because they can tag you.
46:19James Harrison:So this year you'll be four. Next year you'll be 22. So the next two years will be$26 million if you don't play. But I want you to play. I want you to get as much as you possibly can. They're 33. The Steelers are banking on the contracts that they've done before. and you know, and then the loyalty of, we're not trying to cut you. You're trying to set a precedent. So if you sign for the, he's like, I'm not here. DJ had the accolades. DJ had all that. Had the accolades and everything. Everybody else has not got that guaranteed bread, but they haven't. Alex Highsmith, when he signed his contract for$65 million, he had$17,$18 million in guarantees.
46:57James Harrison:He wasn't playing as well. He was injured and everybody's like, oh, you can cut him. You can get rid of, the Steelers kept Alex Highsmith because he's a great player. They believe in him. They know what he brings to the table. And that money that he's given him, he's worth it because the market is always going to go up. Joey Porter Jr., if he signs at$25 million a year and we give him$100 million with 33 guaranteed, he's going to make—they're looking at it. We're going to make that$100 million because that's Joey Porter Jr. We believe he's going to get better. He's going to outplay the contract.
47:25James Harrison:But it's not guaranteed. We know that. It's not guaranteed. So that's why you want the guarantee. They just gave—what did you say Herbert's guarantee was? Herbert gave his team was 42. 42. Eric's guarantee was 42. I find it hard to believe they did 33. Me, I do too. I feel like a good number, but a 50, 55, you know what I'm saying? At least your first two years guaranteed. At least your first two years guaranteed. I mean, you're looking at 70. But again, like you said, this is what the Steelers do. But you just did something where you had a guy that wasn't even a starter and you guaranteed him 40.
48:00That don't make no sense. You give me 33.
48:04James Harrison:Yes, yes, yes. Because you see it. That's what I'm saying. What have you done for me lately? You see my man. We came in the same draft class for 100 with 42 guaranteed. I am a cornerback. If 33 is the number, then I can see why Joey Porter's like, come on, man. But then on the business side, the Steelers got you under contract. You're playing Russian roulette, man. because they're dead serious. They ain't negotiating. They ain't negotiating. And now it's the whole market of it being a big market of trading and getting out of here. Obviously, they're not getting what they want. Ain't nobody going to hold on to you and just let it go.
48:51So now when it comes down to it, like, yes, if it comes down to trade deadline and there's no trade made, yeah, and you're still hurt, I are. I'm going to IR you. I'm going to IR you, and then I'm going to tag you. What day is the trade deadline? October. What is it? October 2014, November. Is it November or October? I don't know. It's November. I think it might be November. Okay. So, like, you're talking, one, that's a long time to wait, too. Oh. When it comes down to it, I don't even know if you could wait that long, especially depending. You already got three quarterbacks sitting on your roster.
49:27You know what I'm saying? Like they may go ahead and just say, you know what, we're going to IR you to return. And then that's going to be the warning shot of, hey, when we bring you back, if you don't play, it's going to be a full IR. And then we're going to tag you. Now what you're going to do? You're going to sit out two years? You can't. Now you're playing on the tag. So when it comes down to it, it's a gamble of they either go let me go or they go keep me. And in most cases, they let people go. But I don't know if the Steelers let people go. If this is how it transpires, I don't want to be a cautionary tale of like, yo, this is how we do it.
50:06We don't give big bonuses. If we give a big bonus, then it's because of whatever it is. But this is what we go offer because we see that if you go and have to play out these two years, you're only going to get 27, 28. We're going to give you 33. I think where Herbert's thing was, he was free-free. after this year it wasn't I think he might have been free free I don't know
50:28James Harrison:they had the same same length of years same deal because he was a second round pick so four year both of them had a four year deal Herbert was second round? no no no not second round but he was a he had a four year deal oh he had a four year too he had a four year deal no no no he wasn't okay I thought he was like he had a four year deal okay well and again there you go so now you're looking at this saying hey like I can't get more than that? My peers got this. I don't do it. I don't know. I just don't understand it. I don't. But again, the end of the day, it ain't no fun when the rabbit got the gun.
51:10Rabbit got the gun, man. And right now, the way these contracts are set and how they can tag guys, the PA needs to do something about this ASAP. like rocky asap man like and just just like we don't even need to be able to get into these situations man like you if you don't if you don't like tagging a guy and then being able to tag him again like that's that's that's that's that's wild it's a it's a three-year or four-year deal okay it's a four-year deal that's what it is it ain't no tagging after so when it come down to it it's really a four-year deal with a two-year with a two-year tag tail on it because i could hit you for two more years.
51:51For sure.
51:54James Harrison:Like... For sure. Yeah. And that's... They got... That's the way the deals are. And the Steelers are trying to look at it too with... This is... In the cornerback market, Debo, is where you have Trent McDuffie, you have Witherspoon, you have Trent McDuffie, Witherspoon, and Gonzalez. Where those dudes were probably... People had them slotted as the best corners. And then when you have my man, Patrick Sertan, you have J.C. Horn that are still in the... Patrick Sertan is probably the best corner in the league, and he's still making$24 million a year because he hasn't got his new deal yet. So when we say the top 10 corners, there's 33, and then there's three dudes, three, four dudes, and then Sauce Gardner is around the$30 million.
52:44James Harrison:Denzel Ward is around the$32 million a year, $33 million a year. and then you have a big gap where you have J.C. Horn and you have my man Two from Denver. They say November 10th is the trade deadline. Okay. So I think that's where the gap is too. So, I mean, hopefully it's happening right now in real time, Debo. Yeah. So we're going to see as far as practice goes, as far as, you know what I'm saying. Like worst case scenario, bro, you could be sitting here next year. and you have no other option but to play. To play under the tag of 23 or whatever it is. I hope that's not the case, but you put me in that position as the Steelers, and the thing I'm getting is you're hurt, you can't play.
53:43Okay, it's not like I'm holding you hostage. You ain't asked to get up out of here. And then right now, if you do ask, I'm probably going to hold your hostage. I ain't going to lie because you tried to play me. I'm going to feel some type of way. And I don't want nobody else to think that they going to be able to do this and get out of here by doing it this way.
54:10James Harrison:Hey, it's Ashanti Plummer from Foot Around and Find Out. Coming out of the draft, it's been a special time for us here at Foot Around. I want to thank everyone from the fans to the sponsors, especially Geico. Not just for supporting AZ, but for showing up where it matters. Like the business of Women's Sports Summit.
