In short
Dan Le Batard Show hosts James “Deebo” Harrison and Joe Hayden break down a Week 1 Chiefs vs. Broncos game (Chiefs win 31-10) and then discuss Cleveland/Browns QB situation and Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr.’s contract/possible trade.
Guests/backgrounds
No separate guests are interviewed in this excerpt. Hosts: James “Deebo” Harrison (former NFL player/football personality) and Joe Hayden (former NFL defensive back/football analyst).
Key claims (Chiefs-Broncos)
Kansas City dominated with Kenneth Walker’s heavy rushing (173 yards, TD) and sustained drives; Denver’s Bo Nix struggled and their defense couldn’t stop the run. Mahomes had a key scramble and a costly interception returned to the KC 5. Denver’s self-inflicted errors (delay of game, penalties) hurt; Chiefs’ defense forced multiple punts/stands.
Notable examples
Walker repeated carries including 4th-and-2; Travis Kelce long gain after a 3rd-and-6; Mahomes “bad pass” interception; Walker 60-yard TD run.
Key claims (Browns/Watson)
Todd Monken said film confirmed Deshaun Watson should be starting vs. Tampa, but offense/players/coaching all must improve.
Key claims (Steelers/Porter Jr.): Steelers allegedly lowballed Porter Jr.; they don’t negotiate during the season; Porter declined a weekend offer. Reported sticking point: guaranteed money (Porter wanted ~$33M+). Teams may explore trade packages.

3:53James Harrison:Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison, and I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. How you doing today, Joe? Brother Debo, I'm doing great. Doing great. Another good day that the Lord has made. You know what I'm saying? Yes, sir. I had some football yesterday. And to let you know also, my Cleveland Browns football team, we are back flag football season number two. We are right back at it. Okay. What about the Steelers, man? What about the Steelers? Steelers flag football team. What about them?
4:30James Harrison:The coach, look, you remember I told you I wasn't coaching their team. They moved up. Jets changed his team now. He's playing with an elite team. His team is the 49ers. I had no control. I had no control. My team is still the Browns because I'm still coaching. This is going to be my final season coaching, though. Oh, you retiring? I'm retiring. Why are you retiring, Joe? Because what I didn't realize is, Debo, last year we were grade 2, 3. And this year, when you're in grade 4 or 5, coaches, we can't be on the field anymore. So now I'm on the sideline. I got to get my players. We got wristbands now.
5:07James Harrison:And now everybody want to act like they don't know which side is the left side of the field compared to the right side of the field. They run outs and play the slants. I'm like, oh, no, this is too much. This is too much. I'm over there. I'm feeling too far for my kids. I'm like, play number three. They're like this. Is it to me? I'm like, look at your wristband. Look at your wristband. It tells you. Are you getting on three? He's like this. No. I said, well, then why did you ask me this, son? So I'm stressing out a little bit. I ain't going to lie to you, D-Bone. So I'm going to gracefully bow out, you know what I'm saying, after this season.
5:40James Harrison:It's getting a little too complicated. I need people to know a difference between the slant and the out. Okay. Okay. I got you. I got you. Oh, my goodness, brother. Look here, man. Let's run through this game real quick, brother. Look here. The Chiefs went out there, and they put them hands on them. Yes, they did. It was 31 to 10, brother. The very first play, Denver gets up out there and they get sacked on the first time. Boom. I thought that was bad. And then third down, he gone ahead and let the rookie pick him up. It looked like he ran the route for the receivers, Joe. Hey, brother, that's how you run that trail technique.
6:22James Harrison:He ran that dig. You had to take it over top. Slipped it. Turned right into his pocket. Look, I'm looking at the Broncos like, listen, look, Browns what lasted until the fifth play. Third play of the season. Bam. Instant pick. Instant pick, Debo. I'm like, oh, yeah. Bronco. Let's go Bronco Nation. Bam. How you like that? That's crazy, ain't it? Man, this really love company. Look at you over there. Just like, yeah. Yep. Over there. Hey, look, Debo. I don't even care. You don't care? Yep. You know what? I'm glad other people got problems. Let's talk about the Broncos' problems. Look here, man. Kansas City get up out there, man.
7:00James Harrison:They go Walker on first down, Walker on second down. Walker again, third. Right, right. Walker on fourth. Walker again on fourth. Walker on fourth down. He went on ahead. What was it, fourth and two? That was fourth and two, bro. They went on ahead and gave it to him again. I think they ended up getting to a third and one. He popped another first down. Yes. And it was right there. He got that first down. It was another run for 12 yards. They gave it to him again. Then it was another one for three later on, the next play. Like, dog. Welcome to the Chiefs. Yes, this is us right now. This is us. We're going to make y 'all defend the run.
7:36James Harrison:Yes. And then you see Patrick Mahomes. He's showing that he's back getting a little athletic. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And gets into the zone. Gets into the end zone. Yeah, I ain't going to lie, man. I didn't see him go ahead and just striking out like that. But I will say this. That was a ho. Oh, on Trav? Hey, that was a hole. Oh, for sure. I think they just didn't want him running again. You know what I'm saying? Because the last time he ran. Look, he ran it in. They got a holding penalty, backed it up, and he ran it in again from 15. Yeah, yeah. You know? Give that man his touch. It's like, oh, man, we want to put him out there again.
8:15James Harrison:No, we can't just keep calling the holds back to back. I think that's what it was. They go ahead and get up 7-0. Denver get back out there. And first down, I think it was Harvey. He went there for a quick little seven. I think second down was just a tackle for a loss. But they was all sides, so that ended up giving them the first. He smacked Buddy on the screen. Smacked him. Nice one. Then Nix hit Bryant for 13. It was third and five. He hit Bryant again for like eight. And then that next play, it was Bryant again for what was it, 11? Yep. Something like that. This drive, Bo Nix was cooking. He went five for five.
8:54James Harrison:Yeah, he went five for five on there, dude. They ended up tying in, I think, Nick's Ingram. On that corner route, high to low, high to low, cornerback. High to low. He's playing the flat. You got to get back. Let him hit the low. Yeah, it's 7-7 now. I think Kansas City get up out there again, and then Denver's defense, they finally stand up. They force a three and out. This one starts being a lot of defense. Yeah, yeah. Denver gets a rock back. You know, they get behind the chains after the first down. They go to first and 20. They punt it back. You got Kansas City out there. I think they started feeding Walker again, but they ended up holding them.
9:32James Harrison:They punt the ball. Kansas City get the back. They force a three and out. Sorry, Denver gets the back. Kansas City forced them to do a three and out. And then you get to the third down, and Mahomes scrambles for the first. That was a nice run. Yes. I didn't think he was going to – he actually looked like he was trying to take a hit. That's crazy. That's crazy, Joe. Pamahone, he's trying to win the game. He's going to put his life on the line. Man, listen. If I'm the head coach over there, man, I'm over there sweating. Get down. Get down. Listen, it ain't that serious. This is week one. Another day.
10:08James Harrison:This is week one, man. No, but he in there. Yeah. Remember Kansas City do another three and out. They punt the rock. They actually held them, though. They got to what, that third and one? Yeah. Yeah, they held them. That was a good play. Bang, bang, play. They doing something, man. Kansas City defense, they doing something, man. They get back out there. Kansas City get back out there. Walker again. I think it was three straight. And then on the third and 10, he dumped it to him. Went like 16. Yeah. They was trying to get a screen to him, trying to get it to him two times in the third when he dove for the first, looking sweet.
10:45James Harrison:Yeah. Yeah. And you know what? I looked at that, bro. It was 16 yards because the ball hit the ground when it got snapped. So I guess that's considered like where it starts at. So when he picked it up and threw it, like I guess that was a new line. So it was 16. I'm looking at that. I'm like, y 'all, that look like that's 10. It's like, nah. Touch the ball. The ground, touch the ball. The ball, touch the ground back there. So it's, yeah, I was like, that's crazy. I could bump my yards by doing that if I was a quarterback, just let it touch the ground real quick and throw it off. Nah, I'm just.
11:13James Harrison:Nah, it ain't worth it. Ain't worth it. Messing around and lose it. Yeah. Then they went on head walker. He gave it to him again. 28. 28. Come on through Walker. He makes up another, what, first down on that third down? Patient. He's over six. First and 10. I think it was what? On the 13, Mahomes. He hits, what was the dude's name? What's that cat's name? Touchdown? Yeah, the receiver. Yes, Rice. That's bad tackling. That's bad tackling. Poor tackling, brother. Poor tackling. I don't understand. You're talking about you, some Denver's defense. You know, they're supposed to be, you got to be making those tackles.
11:57James Harrison:Yeah, you got to, man. 17-14, then. Denver, they get back out there. Kansas City comes out and sacks old Bovins. Three-man rush. On the first down. How you get sacked with that? That's what I'm saying. They sitting back there in coverage and gets them in three. Man, they already behind the chains. They got to punt that thing. End of the half. Kansas City starts the second half, and they come back out there. And fourth and one, bro. Just a little bit short on that third down. Fourth and one. What you going to do, Kenneth? He gone. Gone. Gone. 60 to the house, Joe. Strike up the band. Strike up the band.
12:36James Harrison:60 to the house. As soon as I saw that nobody was over there and he bounced that thing out there, I'm like, oh, he is gone. Oh, for sure. He thought the corner had – who was that? Was that a corner or a safety that had a chance to catch him at the end right there? I think it might have been the safety. Yeah, he broke all that angle. Yeah. Like, he beat that whole angle up, man. It's 21-7 now, man. Denver, let me get back out there. I think Dobbins, he had, like, maybe a little hot 18-yard run. And then the self-inflicted wounds. Yeah. Delay a game penalty. Delay a game penalty. You got – you know, they got the little incompletion on that.
13:14James Harrison:Waddle dropped the slant. Yeah. So now they got to punt the rock back over to Mahomes. And then, man, first play. Mahomes. I don't know, bro. That's just a – hey, look. That's a bad pass. I think he thought he was going to cross the face. The receiver was going behind him. And he hit him right in the heart. So that's Patrick Mahomes. That's a bad pass right there. I don't know, man. I was trying to figure it out after I saw the replay. At first, I thought, I'm like, man, maybe he got confused or something like that. Look, I think he thought that his receiver was going to cross the face. The receiver's like, no, he's going under.
13:52James Harrison:I'm going to take this thing, pylon, launch it high. He threw it on the line, pick. It looks like miscommunication. Hit my man right in the heart. Yeah, for sure. I think he returned it to the Kansas City five-yard line, dude. Okay, and then Denver comes out there, and they let Kansas City defense stand up on them and hold them to a field goal. That's correct. Your self-inflicted wounds, though. Your first and goal from the five, and then you end up getting – you have to go first and goal from the 15. It just makes it way harder for you to get. You know what I'm saying? You have to fire your line.
14:23James Harrison:Mm-hmm. Then it turns it into three. They go – what is it? 10-21, then. It's 10-21, then. Well, Kansas City, they come right back out there, and that was, you know, that third and six. He hits Kelsey, and Kelsey turns that thing into 58 yards down to the Denver four. Do you know why, Debo? You know why? Why is that? Because Kenneth Walker's running the ball all over you guys. This is the Dan Levitard Show. 17:50James Harrison:So now you go cover zero. And now you're a cover zero. And now he's going to get the ball out quick. He runs a quick pivot. You got to make one person miss a tackle. And now you look like, why is nobody out there? Because nobody's there in cover zero. They're worried about Kenneth Walker trying to get these yards. Now Patrick Mahomes just needs to throw a pivot route to Travis Kelsey. Quick little patience. Get it out quick. Make one person miss. And you're about to hit your head on the goalpost. Yeah. 29 missed that tackle, man. He was having a rough night. He got ran over the one play too. So, I mean, it was a rough night for my guy.
18:25James Harrison:They ended up stopping him, but they— They did. That was a good stand. Way to stand. It's an answer. It's an answer, though. They answered it, though. You got three, and then they came back and got three. So, you really ain't do nothing. Mm-hmm. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, you're right. You're right. So, Denver get the ball back. I think it was like second and sixth. They ended up get the OPI on Franklin. You're hurting it. But he pushed my man seven yards. I'm like, please call that. Like, the DB, when you running and you hitting the Scooby-Doo, You can't stop. I'm like, he didn't do it on purpose.
18:52James Harrison:Somebody pushed him. When you run in, like, your legs can't, like, I'm like, I can break way better than this. Somebody's pushed me. Yeah. Yeah. Well, right now, that'd be how you'd be breaking right now, because you ain't got no breaks. Oh, right now, Debo? Oh, I'm Scooby-Doo. Right now, I'm Scooby-Doo with the breaks, for sure. Oh, my goodness, man. I think they ended up, what was it, third and 16 by then now? Yes. and get your butt strip-sacked. Strip-sacked. Strip-sacked. God. They got a short field now. You got to protect the rock, man. Yeah, they got a short field. You know, they get to where they go get to.
19:34James Harrison:And that third and five, brother, he dumped that little thing to Johnson right there and he go to work. Why is everybody stiff-arming people through Earth? Listen, he stiff-arming that man's middle. And then hitting the ground first. Bruh, he's stepping from that man to Middle Earth over there where King Kong is at, bruh. Like, and then the same line after it got done, bruh. Oh. He was the one that came back. He needs his get back, Debo. He's mad. He's mad. You're going to throw me in the ground like that in front of my mom and daddy kids and everything? Bruh, I'm going to try and kill you over here while you're laying on the ground.
20:13James Harrison:Oh, he tried to dribble me? That man was laying on the ground. He didn't try. He dribbled you. Spearing him. Hot. Yes. Yes. I'm like, oh, yeah, that's a buddy that got dribbled. Oh, he's hot. Hey, yes, that's a buddy that got dribbled. You know how hard he had to run to get up and get back to him, man, just so he's coming in. He was on the ground for less than a half a second, for sure. Right. Oh, yeah, for sure. Listen, they get up there and they go ahead. Yeah, Walker, he finished it off with a two-yard touchdown run. Nice little play. Misdirection, but going this way, underneath. That's the same play that basically like the Redskins ran, Debo, and everybody was looking like it was crazy.
20:59James Harrison:They would have blocked it right and scored. You look genius. Hey, when it works, it works. When it don't, it works. When it don't, you look dumb. You go through a slant end on the goal line over there and get it picked off and lose Super Bowl. Well, I mean, that's what happens sometimes, you know? You know, look. You sitting over there with Marshall. It's a results-based game. No question, brother. No question. Denver get back out there. Kansas City, they do what they got to do. They pop three and out, and then, you know, they go and basically just burn off seven minutes. Kansas City get back out there, burn off seven minutes, punt the ball.
21:35James Harrison:And then, just to add a little bit. Yeah, then just the last drive, it just dropped a rock. just to snap right into the hands. I'm like, okay, he's looking uncomfortable. And then when they took, when Buddy slapped the ball out of his hand and he looking around and then get smacked in the back and he's sitting on the ground, he's like this, what else can go wrong? Like when he was sitting on his butt, I'm like this, oh, I know that feeling. He is sick right now. That's it, I'm cooked. I'm cooked. I got nothing for you. That's it. That's it. They go ahead and end up beating him 31 to 10. Like they said, your boy Kenley Walker, He went 173 rushing, dude, with a touchdown.
22:17James Harrison:Welcome to the league. And rushing. Mahomes. Bruh. I did not think he was going to be out there running. I don't even know why they even – I don't know. I don't even know if I'd have let him get out there and even try – I'd be like, yo, man, if it ain't there, just – Just throw it out of bounds. But you get – Throw it out of bounds. But you can't tell Mahomes that. because then he's not going to be able to be himself. You want him to be – if he's out there, it's because you can run. You can move. You can scramble. If I got him out there, because I'm not risking my franchise for years to come if he's out there gimping around.
22:54James Harrison:So it was exciting to see him. He got him to 15 miles an hour. He's never been the fastest, but that's all I need. That's all I need. You said 15. He got him to 15 miles an hour, they said. Joe, 15 miles an hour. Joe, 15 ain't bad, Joe. I think I can hit 15. Hey, hey, look. That's all. I mean, what's the fastest Tom Brady's ever ran? 15? He ain't never had to run. I wish he would have tried to run. See, I'll take it. I'll take it. Man. I was happy to see that. Walker, man, he looking like the missing piece over there in Kansas City, man. You talking, what is it, 23, 173 touchdown? down you got um hell he beat he almost he almost got more than the whole Denver team got they got 176 yards you got my homes out here scrambling extending plays drives all that stuff you got defense they putting in work all night man defense got off the field early and often they was only uh what 47 snaps they only did seven snaps while Denver's defense they was at 67 and because they He couldn't get off the field.
24:00James Harrison:It was on the field for almost 34 minutes. Like, your boy Nick, he didn't play well. I ain't going to lie. I thought after he threw the pick and he came back and he did that 5-5, he went 5-5 and did the five yards with a touchdown. He tied it up. I said, all right, it might be something. But, no, all that stuff went downhill real fast, brother. Yeah. And especially, I say, with Patrick Mahomes, when you're looking at both teams too, Debo, So Patrick Mahomes threw for 184 yards. It wasn't nothing crazy. 15 for 27. You know what I'm saying? But when you have Kenneth Walker running the ball like this, you know what I'm saying, toting it to where at the same time, when they started the game, they handed it off to him.
24:44James Harrison:First down, second down, third down. It got to fourth and two. Handed it to him again. I'm like, okay, that's going to take pressure off Patrick Mahomes to you don't have to do anything. It puts it in a situation where it's third and five. They're in zero coverage. Now, one of your players, catch it and make somebody miss. Rice on the screen, he wasn't really throwing it. It wasn't too many down the field passes. Getting it out to your athletes, letting them make a play, make somebody miss, and taking it to the crib. So I'm like with Bo Nix, help me help you. So if you have your players, like you had Waddle, had zero, had about one catch.

25:19James Harrison:Cam Sutton, two catches. Who's going to be those guys to help him out, you know what I'm saying, to get it going? He didn't play well at all. But at the same time, when you have your running backs, like if Dobbins would have been getting those carries, if his backs would have been able to, he would have been able to lean on them the way Pat did, then it would have looked better. But shout out to the Chiefs. Shout out to Pat. Shout out to Kenneth Walker. Because if the Chiefs don't have to have Patrick Mahomes do all of the stuff to be Pat, just be, just protect the ball. That one pick that he threw, that was a bad play.
25:51James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? I think that was the one of the worst plays he had for the game. but that's one. Eliminate that, Pat. We good to go. You don't have to do too much because now, normally throwing for 300 yards, four touchdowns. Hand it off to Kenneth. Let him do that. We're going to milk this clock. We're going to extend drives. When they go one high, let's make Rice make some shake. Travis, beat the linebacker and make a miss. You know what I'm saying? So I like the way that the Chiefs did it and it's still, it's game one. But the Broncos, the Broncos defense. Bro Nix obviously didn't play well, but the Broncos defense.
26:23James Harrison:Like, that was the thing that they stood on. It's like, nah, our defense, one of the best defenses in the league. If y 'all getting toted on like that, I mean, that's something they got to work on for sure. Because Kenna Walker, he was shredding them. Yeah, they nullified. They passed for us for sure. You know, you made it to where, like, oh, they so, you know, keyed in on the run. They can't stop it. Like, they don't even get time to pin their ears back and just take off. Because now, you know, Mahomes got to sit in the pocket and just throw, throw, throw. Because they can't run the ball. Them boys can run the ball now.
26:54James Harrison:And on top of the matter, you know, Travis Kelsey, I guess he ended up passing Jason Winton. So now he is second most receiving yards for a tight end, only behind. Yes, sir. Gonzalez. He got 13 ,073. Gonzalez got 15 ,127. And he just passed Winton at 13 ,46. 13 ,046. So he had three for 71. Yes, sir. Shout out, Trav. Do you know? Yeah, I don't know if you go get that. Yeah, I don't know. How long you think you go play? He got too much paper now. You know what I'm saying? Man, this might – I don't know. I think this might be the last one. I think this might be the last one. Leave it out on top.
27:45James Harrison:Still just playing at a very high level. hopefully wants to leave with a he wants to win, wants to leave with Pat and with a Super Bowl so I think he got this year, I think this year might be his last year but he can play as long as he want. What you think?
28:03James Harrison:I don't know if I think it would depend if Pat was like yo I just need you to stay here for another year or so or maybe two. It might be a possibility, I don't know I don't know I think his body might have a relationship how much you want to do it and how is your body feeling. I'm not, he going to know more than me. It's the body. The body going to tell you. You going to know where you could go. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Look here, man. Let's go on over here and see what these Browns got going on. Okay. Because it's looking like you're, um, the coach, Monk has said Deshaun's film confirmed getting the starting job against the Bucs.
28:47James Harrison:Listen to what he had to say, Joe. It confirmed it when I looked at the tape. We got to play better around him. We got to call it better. And he's got to play better. It wasn't just our inability to function consistently as an offense was a byproduct of we coaching and playing.
29:10James Harrison:Joe, what do you think of his assessment, man?
29:18Joe? Huh?
29:21James Harrison:What? Yo, what do you think of this assessment, Joe?
29:31James Harrison:What did he say? Play it again, please. Let Joe hear it, man. It confirmed it when I looked at the tape. We got to play better around him. We got to call it better. And he's got to play better. It wasn't just our inability to function consistently as an offense was a byproduct of we coaching and playing.
29:56James Harrison:Joe, what do you think of his assessment? Like, you know, what do you think? It was all bad. That's what he said. He said the coaches was bad, the players was bad, the Sean was bad, the players around him was bad. So everything, we just can't all put it on him. So I think he said he played bad, we coached bad, the players around him did bad. So you're saying that it's not all him. It's not all him. It's not a majority of him. It's not, you know, everybody got equal. Everybody got bad on that tape that we saw. So when we looked at it, I was like, oh, man, Deshaun did bad, but so did the receivers.
30:46James Harrison:So did the linemen. So did the running back. So did the defensive linemen. So did the linebackers. So they was bad enough to give all around. Nobody probably performed that well, you know what I'm saying, in the tape. So coaching, we didn't put them in the right position. The players was out there looking bad. We got to put them in better positions. The players got to make better plays. That's basically what I heard. Because I'm like, when you watched the tape and you said, yeah, I mean, we got to play better around them. We got to coach better around them. Deshaun, I mean, obviously, it just was bad.
31:19James Harrison:And I think that's what he was saying. So he don't want to over say like, oh, no, Deshaun was out there looking terrible because it was 16 for 24. And he threw a pick and he didn't really, he was a lot of dinking and dunks. He got short. For everything he said. It was bad. was confirmation that he should be starting against the Bucs. That's what I'm saying, though. When he's saying about the starting against the Bucs, he didn't really even say that. He just was saying, I mean, but with that, I don't know. I don't know how much longer either Deshaun needs to play better, obviously, the coach calls some better plays next game.
31:56James Harrison:We're going to obviously see. It was one game. It was one game. A terrible, terrible game. Everybody, Debo, that game was so bad. I agree. The whole game was bad. It was like, there's nothing he could say from anybody that really played well to be like, oh, yeah, dude. I'm like, yeah. Remember what he said after the game? I'm not going to fire myself. I'm like, shit. Well, you're damn right. You're going to be here. So it's time for the, we're going to have to obviously figure it out. So now, but going after week two, the whole team, everybody has to play better. But we know now, come on, coach.
32:28James Harrison:Deshaun, that was not, that was not well. So if he does that performance again, the quarterback position is a position that we need to, we have Shador to go see if he's going to be able to make our offense look better. Push the ball downfield. When we got those, that 60-yard pass to Boston, 50-yard pass, where was that in the first half? Like, I like to see at least give us Shador out there to throw the ball down the field. You said Deshaun was going to give us pre-snap. His stuff right before the, we had delayed games. We had false starts. We had all that. So if he's not doing that better in the second game.
32:59James Harrison:So Shador couldn't have did that better, right? I don't know. But you got, can we see? I don't know. I don't know. You told, he was telling us he was doing it in practice. I would have, well, you could have, we didn't see practice. Oh, he had the best week of practice. Was that what his practice was looking like? I don't know. I hope not. Because if it was, that's not good enough to win. Well, I mean, the film confirmed it after he got a look at it because he didn't know nothing about it before that. But the film confirmed it. He looked at it. And I'm not going to lie to you, Joe. This is the Dan Levitard Show.

36:31James Harrison:I mean, I'm gonna have to like totally agree with him. You know, I think actually, I think, you know, it was more the offensive line and the play calling than it was, you know, Watson solely, you know, I mean, the man was sacked five times, Joe, you know, I mean, I mean, how many times was he out there running for his life? Matter of fact, like, the offensive line is probably more the cause than all this because they ain't getting no runs. They ain't protecting this man in the past. Like, on top of that, like, it was, what, 11 penalties for 75 yards? Yes. Joe, the Steelers? Yes. we, me, us, I'm saying all this as a Stiller fan.
37:30James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? I'm not saying this as a Browns fan, Joe. Now, if I was a Browns fan, if and I had, you know, converted back. If you was here and me and you was having a conversation and you was trying to be there for me, for your brother, that's what I'm saying because you said you do care. Oh, I'm saying this as a Stiller fan. That's how I'm talking. I'm saying come over here real quick. I heard what you said. So now what would you come over there? Yeah, real quick. Just have a conversation. What would you say to this? All right. This is what I would say, Joe. I would say. I would say.
38:10James Harrison:If and if and I was going back into when I was a child and I was doing childish things, you know, and behaving like a child and being a Browns fan, and I wasn't quite yet a man as I am today, and I reverted back, I would say, yo, your boy, he got sacked five times, okay? And I think maybe one or two of them offensive linemen actually got, like, worked on, beat on. The other ones, it was a combination of he actually had time. Or it was some type of blitz coming where the communication, all that pre-stuff that they said he did better. He wasn't communicating it with the line or however you want to look at it.
39:01James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? So I'm putting it on him. That's what I'm doing. I'm putting it on him. Because when you look at it, our offensive line, Drew, the Steelers' offensive line. If you look at the pro football focus, we're almost 7.5 points lower than the Browns offensive line were, which means we play worse and we only had two sacks. Why? Because we had Aaron Rodgers and he's going to get the ball out of time and get it where it got to go. So if it's me and I'm actually a Browns fan, I don't I'm not buying this, but you buy it. You buy it. I don't buy it. That's funny. Sound like you was buying it to me, Joe.
39:41James Harrison:No, D-Ball, I'm not. You're saying there was enough blame to go around, Joseph. I'm just trying to explain what he was saying. I don't agree. You don't agree. I don't agree. But, I mean, I see what he's saying. Everybody, it was an overall bad, bad experience. And even if Deshaun did play terribly the first, I wouldn't have started him off the rip. But at least you just can't play in one game. Well, you wouldn't have started him off the rip. I wouldn't have started him off the rip. So that's where I've been saying that. So then when we go with our guy, Deshaun, the coach in the organization, I'm going to go with him because I want my team to win, not because I don't want Deshaun because I want to be right.
40:25James Harrison:Like, no, start Shador. Okay, we started Deshaun. I want you to succeed. I want you to play well. But if you don't, then I know we're going to have to move forward and put in Shador because I think he has a better chance pushing the ball downfield and giving us a chance to score points. Well, Joe, your thoughts and your beliefs and everybody else's, you know, that's. It's a brotherhood. You know why? Because Coach said, because Coach said, when you heard what he said, do you think the team has Deshaun Watson's back? He said, I don't care what they think. I don't care who they have back. Listen to it.
40:56James Harrison:We got it right here. Todd Monken had this to say about his decision to start Deshaun Watson for the Bucs game, man. Here's what he had to say. Listen to it. we'd have to ask you every one of those guys you said 100 percent um and really to be honest i mean they don't have they don't have a choice i mean this isn't a debate and i don't ask the players what every series what play i'm going to call what play we're going to call in defense like their jobs to play our jobs put the best player on the field that we think gives us a chance to win and i love our guys but the moment we get into that in terms of who this guy should be playing what we're doing this, what we ought to be calling.
41:33We've lost sight of the target, which is to own it and fix it and try like hell to get better. And that's irrespective of what goes out there. But there's decisions that are made at every position. Quarterback just happens to be one of those. But ultimately, I don't blame people for having opinions, but ultimately it's for all of us to support who we put on the field that gives us the best chance to win.
41:58James Harrison:Joe are you uh able to support a decision that maybe most of the team or some of the team or some of the fans or all of the fans aren't aren't aren't aren't on the side of or aren't positive or aren't um supportive of this is the thing it's all supposed to be performance based so in the locker room. We practice with these dudes, Debo. Like, you know, when you practice with somebody, dudes know who's good, who's not good. Who's making better passes, who's not making better passes. Who's hitting the guys, who's just doing great plays. So I think when you have a wide receiver and there's a wide receiver competition, the dude that's playing better, that's making better catches, that's making better plays, he's obviously going to be the one that's playing.
42:49James Harrison:The dude that throws the ball better and puts us in the best position is normally going to be the one that plays. So normally when you're playing on the team, you don't have to have that feeling because you know the best player is out there. So you're obviously supporting the guy that's going to get the job done. I don't care. You control what you can control. You're not going to be sitting there and if you're a corner worried about who they play, who they're starting at quarterback. You want the best quarterback. Obviously you're thinking you're playing, your team, your coaches, your owner wants you to win.
43:18James Harrison:So their job is to put the best person out there, period. So when you're a team and you're a player, like obviously you're thinking you're playing, the starting quarterback is the best player we have on our team to help us win. So my job is not to, like, I'm obviously going to support him, but if you're looking in the games and you're playing and you see at practice, there's dudes that just just keep throwing picks. Like the same way you keep seeing the receiver, he keeps dropping balls. Why is this other guy not playing? Because he just keeps catching the ball. It's more something where, oh, I think that's not a dumb thing to say.
43:49James Harrison:So when you're saying like, oh, I don't care if the team has the support, you don't have to like that. You can't make somebody support somebody. People, we're human beings. We have eyes. We're professional athletes. We see what's going on out there. You don't got to tell me that I'm the best corner on the team. Watch me at practice. You don't have to go out there and be like, oh, yeah, that dude right there, Joe, he's strapping. Like, he's the best corner on your team. You know it because you see what he does. His effort on the tape. He's our number one corner. he's starting and the other corners in there in the locker room they'd be like this who's the best corner they'd be like yeah and that's just out of respect if ab's in the locker room he's putting up these numbers he's doing what he does okay who walk you walk in there you see him practicing he's the best one on the team just because he's doing things that other people can't do so when he says this it kind of just is like duh but we would hope that the player that that you put out there is the best player for our team to win.
44:47James Harrison:So obviously coaches are going to say that because you're not going to be, you know, nobody's asking me, who should we put in that quarterback? Nobody's asking our starting tackle. Nobody's asking TJ Watt. Who should I start? Mason Rudolph or should we keep Drew Aller? No, that's not your position. That's not your place. That's over your pay grade. Your job is to be the best outside linebacker you can possibly be because You have a contract that you have to worry about, and you have to make sure that you're holding up your end because you got another deal coming. So you got to watch your own luggage.
45:21James Harrison:When Coach is saying this, I understand what he's saying, but at the same time, that's an obvious point because players normally, you're playing the best guy. So we don't have to worry about the support. We know who we're supporting. We're supporting the dude that's going to help us win games. Joe, I 100 % agree with you. I just like giving you a little over there when there's something going on in Cleveland. man let's go on over here to Pittsburgh man and see what's going on man what's going on with Joey Porter Jr we'll see what's going on with nephew we have a I guess Ari
45:55James Harrison:Mayroff says that uh it's uh not they're not in a good place over there listen the Steelers and quarterback Joey Porter Jr are not in a good place and we saw that on Sunday he did not play They called it a back issue. You could have seen this happening from 100 miles away. The Steelers extended Arnott Washington. They extended Nick Herbig. They extended Keanu Benton. They never, ever engaged with Joey Porter Jr., which is odd because Joey is from the same draft class as those three players, and he was the highest of all those four players. Two weeks before the season started, the Steelers decided to get serious, and the first offer, from my understanding, was an insulting offer.
46:36The last offer, which happened over the weekend, from my understanding, was not structure that Joey Porter Jr. would have liked to get for the caliber of player he has been and the caliber of player he's going to continue to be. So he declined that offer. The Steelers have this longstanding policy. We do not negotiate it during the season. If you want to get a deal done, it's before the season. So teams around the NFL are wondering, hey, could we trade for him and give up maybe a draft pick and a player so the Steelers could get some help for this year? Because obviously they want to win this year.
47:07They have a 42-year-old quarterback. They're not going to trade away Joey Porter Jr. just to get a pick for next year. It wouldn't make much sense. But teams are wondering if we could maybe find a package that would make sense for both sides so Joey Porter Jr. could get the first start that he wants and maybe also get the contract that he wants and be somewhere where he is appreciated, where right now, in his eyes, the Steelers have not been appreciating him for what they've done this offseason.
47:34James Harrison:Joe. Yo. What are your thoughts? You think he going anywhere with this? You think he got a new room to stand on that? You know, I think it's definitely getting – it's to a point now, Debo, I thought that it was going to be done before the season started. Because the Steelers, like we said, they don't do contracts during the season. And that's a team thing. That's something that can be adjusted. It's not like it's a rule or anything like that, but that's just something that the Steelers always play by. So unless you get something done before the season, it looks like in their history, a contract isn't going to get done.
48:19James Harrison:So Joey Porter's contract not getting done before the first game of the season, I lied to you not. I was messed up about it because now it's like, damn, it's really bad. It's to the point where I have to move out and move out from my personal relationship of wanting PZ to be good. And, you know what I'm saying? Like, dang, now you really in a lock halt with the Pittsburgh Steelers. You know what I'm saying? So when it comes down to it, this is the issue. Go ahead. You did not start negotiations until a couple weeks ago. Like, that's a bad starting point when you want to get something done before then.
48:58James Harrison:And then, as he said, it was a lowball offer, and then the next one, it was supposed to be a structure issue that went on and so on and so forth. But when you actually look at it, you say, okay, the rumor is like it's a structure issue. So if it's a structure issue, I went and I started going down the rabbit trail. You know how that goes. Yeah. And you got somebody that was do we have that tweet? It was a guy named, I guess, Frank Smith, Frank Michael Smith. There he is. And he actually. said that a source close to Joey Porter Jr. told me the only piece blocking a deal was the guaranteed money.
50:01James Harrison:They said in a four-year deal, the Stillers won't commit to anything over$33 million dollars porter requested guarantee cash they said closer to gonzalez and witherspoon or i guess around that million dollar range and gonzalez is a million is a hundred million um hundred million hundred and two million guarantee sorry and witherspoon is a 101.25 guarantee so I guess the guarantee is the issue and if they're saying the guarantee here was 33 like this is the Dan Levitard show this is Dan Levitard and I've been doing this for more than two decades our show is contagious it's a little bit addictive it's in the most positive of ways it has a good amount of range from smart to silly and it's got a journalistic backbone Monday through Friday I show up and talk about sports.
