In short

NFL quarterback contract speculation and coaching impact, plus Tom Brady’s criticism of excessive player fines.

Guests

None explicitly named as guests in the transcript. Hosts are James “Debo” Harrison and Joe Hayden. The episode also references analyst Bucky Brooks and Tom Brady as commentators, but they are not present as guests.

Key claims

  • C.J. Stroud’s Texans contract talks are stuck because his playoff interceptions and “prove-it” season matter; Texans want “what have you done for me lately?” while Stroud’s camp targets $55–$60M/year.
  • Steelers pursuing Stroud is unlikely/undesirable; if Texans don’t pay, Stroud could be franchised and cost more.
  • Mike McCarthy could be Coach of the Year for Pittsburgh if he turns the Steelers into a disciplined, top-10 offense and top-10 defense team.
  • Tom Brady argues NFL fines are too harsh and not accounting for intent.

Notable examples

  • Stroud’s AFC divisional round vs Patriots: four interceptions.
  • Contract benchmarks mentioned: Trevor Lawrence ~$50M, Sam Darnold ~$35M.
  • Brady’s fine examples discussed: $50K–$75K penalties and rule changes tied to player safety concerns.

4:17James Harrison:Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison. And I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Make sure you like and subscribe and download where you get your show. I say, how you doing today, Joe? How you doing today? I see another jersey on. It ain't even a hoop jersey. It's a soccer jersey. What is that? It's an Argentina jersey. It's a Lionel Messi jersey. This man Messi. Messi sent you the jersey? No, Messi ain't sent me the jersey, man. I had to go cop the jersey. I don't know Messi personally. Oh, it was from the three? No, I went to Champs.

4:56James Harrison:I got this one from Champs. I got this from Champs. You know what I'm saying? We know you would tell us it's from the thrift. Next time, when I wear my thrift jersey, I'm going to let you know when it's from the thrift. When I get it from Champs or I order it from Michelin-esque, I'm going to let you know. Because I got some of them jerseys, too. But I got some thrift jerseys, too. But long story short, look. Argentina, Lionel Messi, this is the GOAT of soccer. I mean, some people like Ronaldo. This is my son's favorite player, Jetty. Jetty loves a little Messi, so I had to represent him. Okay.

5:28James Harrison:And Debo, also, today is a great day for me. I'm feeling good because - What you got? What you got? It's my 13-year wedding anniversary today. Oh, yes. Congratulations, man. Thank you. Congratulations. Y 'all clap it up. Y 'all clap it up for Joe. Give me some love. Thank you. Thank you. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Thank you for 13 years. My lovely wife, Sarah, man. Love her dear. Yes. Yes, the better half. Come on. Yes, definitely. Come on. Definitely. How was your weekend, my brother? Hey, it was all right. okay why was it okay I can't like I said it was alright it was okay yeah I'll get to you later but yeah it was alright hey hey I'm here it's another Monday morning everything going good like I said man hey as long as I'm here and breathing it's a beautiful day thousand percent beautiful day to be alive baby beautiful day to be alive thousand percent you ain't lying Joseph yes I guess CJ Straub and the Texans they kind of had a They say a contractual impasse.

6:30James Harrison:The only thing increases the chances of Strahd landing in Pittsburgh for 2027? Who said this, man? Somebody from ESPN said Strahd and the Texans aren't close to a deal as of late June. Houston and its quarterback are in a tricky spot because last season did not end the way either one preferred it. Yes, last season. Strad threw four interceptions against the Patriots, an AFC championship, I'm sorry, AFC divisional round, and the performance with, oh, a performance that can cause hesitation when the extension for Strad, ooh, no way, could be 55 to 60 million per year. Oh, it is. Woo, how negotiations are currently going.

7:18It's going to be a prove it season for Strad.

7:23James Harrison:Yo. Yes. You think the Steelers will pursue him? They're saying the Steelers will pursue him because we're thinking at the end of the season, Aaron Rodgers will be gone. If they're not giving him a contract right now, it's going to be a proving year right now for C.J. Strout if they don't get a contract with the Texans. So understanding that we don't have our franchise quarterback, if he goes out and balls out, we are going to be in the we're going to be in the ballpark of looking for a franchise quarterback soon. So if CJ Strout is available, you know what I'm saying, it ends up balling out for this proven year.

7:58Because the thing is this, Debo.

8:00James Harrison:You know the NFL. You know how it goes. You got to strike when it's hot. It's what have you done for me lately? CJ Strout came in hot. Rookie season. You know what I'm saying? Offensive player of the year. You know what I'm saying? Led them to the playoffs. Second year, you know what I'm saying? 20 interceptions. I mean, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions. went to the playoffs again, had a nice season. That season wasn't nice. Dude, he doubled his interceptions. He did more than double, actually. He went from five the year before to 12. Yes. And he played less games, I believe. No, he played more games that year.

8:33James Harrison:I take it back. He was what, 3 ,800? I mean, the yards in the past. The yards of 4 ,000 yards to 3 ,700 yards. Big thing was the interceptions. The big thing definitely was the picks. Was the picks. And his trajectory was, when you see a player starting off at the rookie year, You're thinking you have a franchise quarterback. You drafted him. You're believing in him. The play was showing and it was good. When you start doing the second year, like you said, doubling interceptions, you know what I'm saying? And then third year, we're hoping that obviously the Texans don't want him to be good. Defense is exactly where it needs to be.

9:08James Harrison:And it ends with a bad taste in your mouth. And you know, you remember those years of, you know what I'm saying, rookie season, second year, wasn't all that. But then third year, it's like, hold on, hold on now. Now, the contracts are Trevor Lawrence, the$50 million a year. When you have a franchise quarterback, it's time. That's what they're getting paid. That's what the market is. So for Strout and the Texans, the Texans are looking at like, okay, but what have you done for me lately? It's not looking good when we get to the playoffs with this great defense and we're throwing picks. On C.J. Strout's side and his agent, they're like, don't forget about what's going on.

9:43James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? Like he did go offensive player of the year. These stats are still up in there with 63 touchdowns, 25 interceptions total. These are still good numbers. He still has the trajectory to be a franchise quarterback. So his agent is still going to be pushing for the$55,$60 million mark. Right now, the Houston Texans are like, hold on. I have calls to pause. What I see on this tape from the season before this one, and then when we get to the playoffs with the good defense, you're throwing picks. You know what I'm saying? We have the defense to get there. It was the offense that kind of was failing us.

10:15James Harrison:it was looking crazy playing against the Steelers. Then the next one playing against the Patriots. Both of those games, defense stood up. They were making plays the whole time. It was the offense that was lacking and him not looking like he knew kind of what was going on. So that's where it's a big difference. It's a big gap. Adrian is looking for that 55, and I'm a franchise quarterback. Texans are like, hold up. You got to steal. What have you done for me lately? If it was your rookie season that you played with 25 picks and five interceptions. Okay, now we're talking a different – we're singing a different tune because I'm – what have you done for me lately?

10:48James Harrison:I'm trying to give you a contract on what I've seen just now. So with them thinking the Steelers are interested, it's just because we're in the market of a quarterback after this season. If he plays well, you know what I'm saying, with this play – this proving year and the Texans don't give him a contract, then we would be in the market. I'm not knowing where to go sign him, but we'd be in the market of a quarterback. in the market we're always everybody's in the market for a quarterback yes well should the Steelers pursue him like should they actually pursue him to make him our quarterback no no no no I don't I don't I don't I don't think we should do that if we don't think we should do that it's just what you said like his rookie year yeah everything was going good we understand like you may have a little slump in your sophomore year all that stuff yeah picks went up and all that other stuff and then really when it come down to it i don't think we have a chance to get him like nobody will have a chance to get him because if he goes and he actually does well this year and they don't pay him it's a proven year they still can franchise and that's why they they ain't they ain't gonna get nowhere on this deal if they're not trying to get a man to 55 to 60 million because he know like if i go in here and bet on myself that next year they go have to franchise me and i'm sitting there 50 million right somewhere around there right oh it's for sure so why so why would i even think about signing the deal right now that's gonna give me less than 50 something a year because i know i can get that at least at least one year like and from what you know how he's viewing himself next year is going to be a year where he actually or this year sorry it's going to be a year where he takes off and it's gonna be like all right you should have signed me then because now I'm going to cost you 60.

12:30James Harrison:Yeah. Now I'm trying to reset the market. Right. So this right here, like I said, I don't think we should pursue him. I don't see it as a good idea. Like you said, the big thing is, dude, playoffs. Like what you did in the playoffs and the numbers have actually gotten lower. He barely cracked. Well, he missed games last year, but he barely cracked 3 ,000 yards passing last year, dude. I'm with you, Deebo. For the Steelers, I don't think it would be a good option for us to pursue C. Dre. I think him with the Texans, the defense is what we're looking for. Their defense was the best defense, one of the best defense in the league.

13:10James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? Coming to us, we're trying to get our defense for sure. We know what our defense can be, but it's not there yet. We need a quarterback that's going to come over here, and if our defense is playing like that, we need to be winning games instantly. So I'm not C.J. and know that Houston, they got something to figure out with CJ. I think that with the Steelers, we don't need to be worrying about CJ Stroud. That's more of a Texans problem, 1 ,000%. I was just saying for us moving forward, we know we're going to need a franchise quarterback for sure. So just somebody putting CJ in the market, I'm not rocking with it.

13:41James Harrison:But I can see why they're like, in the future, if the Texans aren't rocking with CJ, any franchise quarterback available, they're going to tag them to the Steelers and being trying to figure out what's going on. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Y 'all just tagging us to anybody. Any quarterback is trying to code. Still in need one, throw him over there. Yo, this is the same guy that just last year, he said, I'm getting old. I'm not as quick as I used to be, man. No, he was being funny. We talked about this. No, he wasn't being funny, dude. Because think about this. Think about this.

14:13James Harrison:Think about this. What you don't realize is if you go and you look at that whole thing he did, like that whole interview he did, it wasn't even a minute before that conversation, like he's having a conversation he's going through the whole thing and he's saying uh he said being 23 i'm not uh fully in my grown man body all the way yet i'm still growing each year and then you said i'm then you said later i feel like i'm gonna know and i ain't like this i used to be i can't get out like i want to i can't get on there when i was like 180 i could move i could do this i was quick i was that huh i don't need that mentality at my quarterback i'm sorry and No, man.

14:51James Harrison:He's just saying. He was a young whippersnapper. He didn't have to stretch it all, but now he's growing into his grown man body. It's just different. You just got to work a little harder. So that's what he's saying. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. He's about to be locked in. We'll see this year. Roofing for the Texans. He's not coming over to the Steelers. Good. Okay. Okay. We roll with that. We agree that it ain't going to be over to the Steelers. It ain't going to be over here. We can definitely agree with that. For sure. but okay you think the Texans gonna give him a deal you think the Texans are gonna give him a deal I think I think I think if he could go in there and put himself somewhere between or above even above his rookie year or somewhere in between that rookie year but not quite the second year like as far as like picks and all that like you can't do the picks but like they They ain't going to have no choice, a bird in the hand.

15:51James Harrison:Like, who are you going to go out there and be like, hey, I'm going to give you 55 and keep it moving. Or you get another one that you don't know, don't have a program, don't have an offense. You know, it's a lot that go in, you know, to you making a decision or the team making a decision, especially with a certain player. Like, you sitting there at a certain position. Why is it always chaos when we link up? Because nobody plans anything, bro. Good thing the Rogue's ready like that. For real. Rain, dirt, whatever. Available all-wheel drive. Five modes. 19:50James Harrison:And they like what they get from you. It's just so much easier to be like, all right, here. No, for sure. It's a big difference because when you start talking about these quarterback contracts, contracts it's a difference but 55 million is what trevor lawrence and he's got 50 million trevor lawrence and then you got 35 million sam darnold so it's like if they're thinking he's more not right now we we looking more in the market of the 40 million a little bit over what sam darnold got on the long term he's like no that's 50 55 is where we're starting at because it's more trevor that's 15 million dollars per year so those were those are gaps that are huge when we're talking about Joey Porter, Joey Porter's contract is 20 and 30.

20:32James Harrison:That's the$10 million. These quarterback joints, when you're talking about 55 to 35,$20 million difference. So that's what you're saying. I'm betting on myself. That's a lot of bread. That's a big difference. Got to. I mean, especially if he's betting on himself, if he don't go out there and have a bad season, they really, they don't have no choice. So you either let him go, have nothing or you franchise him and be like, all right, at least we'll have him for another year. We'll figure out the quarterback next year. Like, he's going to get it. Like, and he knows he's going to get it. For sure.

21:10James Harrison:Quarterbacks, they're hard. Quarterbacks are hard to find. So they're going to bet. They've seen him do it before. He's still young. Teams would be like, man, if he was over here with us, we could do better with CJ Stroud. He has all of this stuff. Put him with this offensive coordinator. I could do something with CJ Stroud. Yeah. You could do something with CJ Schroeder. Not me. Not me. I'm talking about what other offensive coordinators are thinking. Okay. Okay. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Not me, dude. I thought you were saying Cleveland. Me as in Cleveland. I don't know. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

21:39James Harrison:My bad. My bad. Yeah, I'll have his QBR all jacked up. Yeah, don't. My bad. My bad, Joe. Because we, me, all that, I just get confused sometimes. So that's all I was saying, man. NFL analyst Bucky Brooks, Tabs Distillers, Mike McCarthy, is one of the dark horse, I guess, NFL coaching, Coach of the Year candidates. He said, the underappreciated Super Bowl winning head coach has a chance to cement his legacy with a strong run in Pittsburgh. McCarthy takes over a longtime winner that has that had plateaued under Mike Tomlin. But the roster still features enough veteran players to make a jump from good to great under new direction.

22:23James Harrison:If the veteran coach can get Aaron Rodgers to play like a top half quarterback in the system that minimizes his deficiencies as a 42 year old while simultaneously prodding defensive coordinator Patrick Graham to help the vaulted defense remain, regain its swagger and sophisticated style. The Steelers suffocating style, sorry, suffocating style. The Steelers will make plenty of noise as contenders. Joe, what do you have to say about this? What do you think? Possibility, no possibility. Why is this even possible? Because when you look back at it, everybody's saying, hey, he's the same coach as the coach we just got rid of.

23:07James Harrison:He's the same coach as Mike Tomlin. Mike McCarthy and Mike Tomlin are the same. Like, that's what we got. They say what they say. He say he's the white Mike Tomlin. That's what he said. If that's it, why would he be thinking that he could take this team and move around because as you have said yourself, Mike is a great coach. You're telling me that this new coaching staff that's coming in here, go get these guys to play at a level that's more than what he could have did? Like the same guys, especially like when you look at it on the defensive side, dude, I know we have a defense that can play and be, you know, one of those top tier.

23:45James Harrison:Yeah, one through five, at least when you look at it, dude. There's no reason we can't be top five, D-Bo. We've seen them do it. We've seen them do it. They went through the process of doing it. They have done it. And when you look at it, in the last, I can't even think, dude, the last since 2000, I think maybe 2020 was the last time that we even had a top five defense. I think that was, what was it, three? I think there were three then. Yep. But we haven't been in the top 10 since. Like, we haven't been in the top 10 since. I think the best we had from 20 to now, after that 3 and 20, was 12 or 13, something like that.

24:30James Harrison:And that's the same. We got the same defense. Like I said, especially our core players on defense, those are the same guys that got us to where we were when we were the three. so if that's the case and he comes in here even the offense dude the offense we hadn't been ranked in the top five in offense since 2018 right yes like it was a three then the same that same year was 20 same year we got bounced we got bounced or did we even make it that year i don't even remember to be honest with you you know all right so go ahead go ahead so my thing is this I believe he could be coach of the year simply because we're going to go in there and especially on the defensive side of the ball, I believe we're going to get it fixed and we're going to have a scheme that is going to be taught to these players that actually benefits them.

25:25James Harrison:It helps them to be able to play their position because it will be a sound defense. Yes. And when you come down to it, bro, like I could have the greatest player in the world if my defense is not sound it don't matter you got guys out there that are out of position and we're thinking they're out of position but they're not because the same guy that's doing that thing at that position playing the same spot later is doing the same thing so obviously you're being taught something that is absolutely not going to help make this defense better or help you to finish those plays so for me I believe you will have a chance now to actually see a measurable comparison of coaching with a coach that coaches and a coach that motivates.

26:27James Harrison:That's what I think. Only time will tell. Yes. Because for me, what would get him coach of the year? because when you go back to it, you go to last year, we're coming back basically with the same offense, same defense, right? We got this old quarterback, that 42-year-old quarterback can't do nothing. Right? Yes. So the only thing that would have been a major change is the coaches, right? Yeah. Okay. Now, for him to be coach of the year, you take a 25 offense and a 24 defense or it was vice versa. It was switch. It was 25 or 24. Yes. Now they both jump into the top five. Does that make him coach of the year with a playoff win, two or a Super Bowl?

27:14James Harrison:Does that make him coach of the year to you? You tell me. A thousand percent. What would be the minimum requirements for you, for him to be considered coach of the year? Like you just stated, Debo, I think when he comes in right now, like you said, he's going to come in now with the new energy where end of the day, we have the talent here on the team. So keeping everybody accountable for their play on the field. That's all it is. I think that they got a little bit of leniency and a little bit of smoothness and a little bit of letting everything just be blase. Where that's where just Coach T, you know, and it's not, but it's just years of being around and just, it just got comfortable.

27:52James Harrison:New coach coming in, Coach McCarthy from Pittsburgh, loves the area, knows what he got to do. He understands the situation that he's in. So do the players. So does T.J. Watt. So does Cam Hayward. So does Jalen Ramsey, DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr. End of the day, I believe that he can do it because he's just speaking on, we know, Debo, when we say this about our defense, the players that are out there, we know they can play. We know that the way that we can tell the coach is if they're being coached and nobody's running scot-free. The players out there, we've seen them be the best in the league.

28:28James Harrison:We've seen them go to Pro Bowls. We've seen them be all pros. When we see them, we just need to see them as a team executing as one. Talking. Consistently. Playing, play out. Consistently. And that comes from now, we'll know, with coaching. That's going to tell by, if the people aren't running scot-free through our defense, our defensive ranking is going to drop down to the top 10. We ain't got cats throwing hands, doing this. Dude's doing this. Dude's pointing. If a body's on a body, our defense is top 10. Period. Once dudes start making plays, our defense can be number one. So just people on everybody, just lining it up and just line it up.

29:02James Harrison:Now they make them beat you lining up against us. You're going to be 10. Start making some plays. TJ, start batting balls in the air. Cam Hayward, start doing your thing. Jalen Ramsey, making some picks. Let's turn some of those batted balls. Don't let the batted balls hit the ground. We start making those extra plays. Now our defense is top five. We're talking about two defense in the league. Just because we're not making no bullshit plays. We're not giving up bombs for no reason. We're not just sitting out there looking around. Now, if everybody's lined up, everybody's communicated, we know what's going on, now beat us.

29:32James Harrison:Now we can see what's going on, who's not making their plays, why aren't you in your gaps? Then it just looks like a disciplined defense, and we see if somebody makes a play, it's because somebody was right there putting their hand in, and they're like, ooh, that meant nice play. Boom, line it back up. We can live with that. On the offensive side of the ball, everybody keeps talking about we got old man Aaron. We understand that. Whoever just came back with Phillip Rivers at 45 off the couch, and was swinging the ball for him. Don't tell me Aaron Rodgers is not way better than that. So we get him to get the boys on our team where we get good running game.

30:07James Harrison:Aaron Rodgers is smart over his shoulders. He still spins the rock. People last season were dropping some passes. So what takes it to you where all of this combines to where you say at this level of what do you feel like, oh, automatic coach of the year? We got a 25-24 offense defense. They finish, they get. We go top 10 in both. We go to the playoffs. We win the division. Again, we get top 10 in offense and defense. You know what I'm saying? And yeah, we win our division. And then we win our first playoff game. We win our playoff game. Second playoff. And he's coach of the year for me. I just want to see top 10 on both with just consistency of our offense looking good.

30:55James Harrison:Our defense looking good. we look like a good football team. Like, not turnovers, not false starts, not people jumping off sides. If you lose... The things that you can control. The things you can control. Don't sit out there and be out there moving around, everybody looking crazy. We're not getting to the line. We're not getting out of the huddle on time. I'm like, let me see our team look like a professional football team. Executing, running plays, people moving in and out of the snap. There's no confusion. Like, I don't want us to see looking confused. We look like we're lined up, and now you got to come beat us on the offensive side and the defensive side.

31:30James Harrison:So that's what I'm saying. You're going to see coaching because you're going to see discipline. You're not going to see people pre-snap penalties. You're not going to see bullshit like that. You're going to see special teams executing. You're going to just see a good coached football team. So when I see that, and we have the players that are going to be ballers, so we'll be watching them on the offensive line. Who's not holding up your blocks? D-line, are you getting pushed back? Queen, like if you got – I'm going to see them running free and making plays is because nobody's peeking. You know what I'm saying?

31:57James Harrison:D-line is everybody's holding their own. Stay in your spot. Do your job. So when they do that, I'm like, well, we got the squad. So when Bucky's saying this, I'm like, he knows. Everybody's just playing with the Steelers because next thing you know, they're just going to be, you're going to be 8-8, 8-8. If you win those games that you lose by two, lose by three, because of the little things that are just little stuff. Don't beat yourself. You know what I'm saying? Like the little stuff. You win great all three quarters. They give up everything in the four. In the four. And everybody's looking crazy.

32:27James Harrison:And they're like, oh, no, we're ass. No, we're not. You're really, really good. All you got to do is be disciplined, fight through the whole game. You know what I'm saying? Like things are going to happen. Just don't get too up. Don't get too down. And just play football. So I'm thinking if Mike McCarthy comes in, understanding this, saying what we're saying, play the game. And the players like Cam, TJ, they know. They know when it's good. They know when it's bad. And you got good leadership. Cam wants to be great. TJ wants to be great. Jalen Ramsey wants to be great. Highsmith. So, them pushing each other.

33:01James Harrison:Them knowing, like, it's not just about that. Listen to that. Listen to all them names you just said, man. Those are goals. What? Those are goals. Hell, the offense ain't been in the top. I know. 23? They've been in the top 23. That's the highest. Lowest is 30. That's what the offense has been. Huh? Yeah. Since 18? What? So that's what I'm saying. The paperwork, you look good on paper, but it's not good enough until when you see them out there executing. And we're going to know if the coaches are going to be putting people in the position and we're not seeing nobody run free. If I see that, then that's what I'm rocking with coach.

33:39James Harrison:Like, OK, you got everybody on the same page. The team is out there disciplined, a disciplined football team. Yeah, that like I said, buddy, I'm excited to see. Me too. What's the season going to look like? How it's going to play out? And, you know, what everybody going to be saying come the break? The good thing is, Debo, we know what a team is. And like you said, it's only going to be until they get out there to play so we can really see, you know what I'm saying, what's going on when they get out there. Because all it is is paper play right now. But we know at the end of the day, people are sleeping on the Steelers because they just don't expect them to really do nothing.

34:19James Harrison:But, you know, when you really look at the roster and you see who's on the team, you're like, if they do lock in, it's going to be problems. It's going to be trouble. Put me in position. Put these players in position so they can make plays. And not have them playing in unsound offenses, defenses that don't shore up or play to the strengths, especially on offense or the players that we have. And then on defense, like, put the right guy in the right spot. We got some guys playing in a spot that they don't need to be playing in. Like, yo, mm-mm. Like I said, man, we get a chance to go back out here and show them what it really means to play Pittsburgh Steelers football.

35:03James Harrison:We ain't lying. Weekend, week out. Snap in, snap out. Yes. Lock in. Yes. Yes, Lord. Tom Brady and probably sides with the players over the league's fine system for off for on field and fractions. Right. Listen to what this man said. This is what happens. They start finding you fifty thousand dollars, seventy five thousand dollars. And I'm saying, like, I hate that. I hate the fact that, like, you sign a contract for two million dollars a year, five million dollars a year. And it's so easy for someone to say, give me seventy five thousand. Give me fifty thousand. Oh, it's your second offense. That's one hundred.

35:43That's your third. me about it yeah boy i mean i know i've seen a lot of i've suffered i've suffered honestly i know but i like this is like what job what job is like that in the world where you make a mistake at your job and they come in they go hey we're gonna take your salary away yeah and then people are like yeah you should take your salary away and i'm like i've been finished i know

36:07hey joe man look here man listen i'm gonna tell you boys something i'm talking to the

36:13James Harrison:owners. I'm trying to tell y 'all, man, hey, listen, when y 'all let a player in there, as an owner that done played this game, and Tom Brady is a player, a true player. A true player. For the Himalayas. Hey, hey, no question about it. And he will always be a player, okay? So he knows what these guys go through because he's been through it. He's seen guys that are suffering through other stuff. Like, he sees the effects of all this stuff going on. So, I don't know what made y 'all think he was not going to speak his mind on any of this stuff when he would be asked, you know, questions on. I mean, he's speaking factually.

36:53James Harrison:Everything he said is facts. Fines are out of control. There's no way you think you think finding a player, dude, 50, 60,$100 ,000 dude for making a mistake in judgment. You're talking about timing. like literally timing why is it always chaos when we link up because nobody plans anything bro good thing the rogue's ready like that for real rain dirt whatever available all-wheel drive five modes we still outside and they got some kick too that turbo torque is crazy the most in its class it moves moves rogue doesn't mess around and peep the space merch on merch gear mics all of it fits load up we out 2026 nissan rogue built for all of it auto pacific segmentation 2026 rogue versus latest in-market competitors in the x suv mainstream midsides class excluding electrical vehicles based on manufacturer websites hi i'm cindy crawford and i'm the founder of meaningful beauty well i don't know about you but like i never liked being told oh wow you look so good for your age.

40:21James Harrison:Talking about bang, bang plays, dude. Full fucking speed, bro. Guys are getting faster, okay? You think finding a guy for a mistake is the thing to do that they're going to stop doing? But, dude, I can see if it's blatantly obvious that he's doing it. I get that. But remember, Joe, I'm going to actually tell you what they told me. Yeah, you. When I was going through my fine situation, okay? Yes. They told me we don't take into intent. They don't take into account intent. Intent. Bruh, they fined me$75 ,000. And then now, dude, they fined people$50 ,000 in preseason. And these guys are making, what, two, three grand?

41:02James Harrison:That's what I'm saying. A week? That's crazy. And you find this man$50 ,000 for a game? Yeah. One game that he played over, he ain't going to even make that much money, dude. Like, this is, dude, weak-ass NFL PA, dude. I'm trying to tell you, dude. Like, this, this, this, this, ever since Gene's up, Shaw's passing, and we got DeMarie Smith, dude, as the NFL executive, all they did was try and put themselves in position to keep their jobs in power and did nothing for the player. But anyway, go back to what time. Time talking truth, bro. 2009, was it? When they started doing the fines. That hit that I had on Masquire, bro.

41:38James Harrison:Yes. $75 ,000. You know what that was supposed to be? Five grand. Five grand. Bro, I never forget, bro. Mike calls me. Mike T called me. He said, they're about to hit you with$75 ,000. I said, the fuck what they is? Dude, who? I quit. No, they not. I said, yeah, I'm just, I'm calling him, let you know. Bro, I was, bro, I was so mad, bro. I didn't know what to do. So. I'm going to ask you this question, D-Bo. If they were to find you 5 ,000, would that have deterred you from hitting, trying to, what are you talking about? That hit was illegal when I did it. They changed the rules in the middle of the game, bro.

42:23James Harrison:It was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it was. the league yeah the league they can't that's that's fucked up d-bo that's what i'm saying that's messed up d-bo cast nflp all the good but anyway we're talking about tom here okay time and these fines brother so i'm getting fined bro and i go i got fined again for something i don't know what the hell it was right so i think it might have been after that but we're going up there they want me to come up there and sit down and explain to them uh you know the the league office so i'm in new york merton hanks it's you know all the head you know all the all the rest people you know what i'm saying so yes and i fly up there so we go up there they got they sent kevin colbert with me the gm at the time okay okay yo bro kevin colbert og listen i didn't i thought they were sending me with, listen, he wasn't no help.

43:22James Harrison:Let's just say that. I'm thinking I'm going with the GM, right? Okay. I'm like, okay. All right. Dude, I ain't gonna even lie, bro. Listen. I mean, God can just go out to forgive me because I'm gonna let you know what I was thinking back then. I was thinking messed up back then. You know what I'm saying? So, bro, we get there and they start pulling up the film and they're Yes. They're watching. They're watching each play and they're like, yo, explain this play what you were thinking in this. You know, I'm like, OK, blah, blah, blah. And Kevin's like, you can clearly see he's not trying to. I'm like, OK, yeah.

43:58James Harrison:OK, cool. Got my back. Right. Yeah. Right. Yeah. And so we go again. And then they started going back. They went back like four or five years. I think you're only supposed to go back three. And Kevin's like, you can't go back this far. What the hell are you guys doing? Oh, you know you're not allowed. I'm like, damn, they done sent me with an assassin. He do not like these folks, bro. And I'm like, I'm liking it, but I'm like, damn, I know I ain't about to get no money back, right? Yeah, no, for sure. So I'm like, you know what, man? We got to play. And I just say, and Roger is just sitting in the back.

44:27James Harrison:This is when I could have, man, Lord Jesus, forgive me. I would have did whatever I could if I thought I could have got away with it back then, bro. But anyway, so he's sitting in the corner. He ain't saying nothing. And you got me hurting Hanks over here. And he, you know, he's doing all the talking. But, you know, he got that shape thing, you know. and he like well okay well if you do this and that you can't i'm like dude you can see that i'm not trying to hit this cat like here or there i said listen here tell me why y 'all find me on this hit right here with uh with master quad yes i'm like was it because it was too hard like i'm like just tell me it's like well you know it was it was a helmet to helmet and i'm like we didn't have that before like what are you guys talking about like well i'm just telling you da da da roger's still sitting over there ain't saying nothing Murray Hanks still over here shaking like drugstore Dyson so finally I go look here I say okay so it was just helmet to helmet that's what you're saying all right cool okay I said so if I go to tackle him and I go to dive at his ankle to tackle him and at last second he bends all the way down and throws his head in front of his foot and I touch his helmet is that a fine on me he said yep that's all your fault I said cool we're done.

45:40James Harrison:There's nothing you can do. And I walked out, Joe. He go come into the bathroom. Hey, look, I was just trying to, you know, I know how it is to play defense. I said, man, get the fuck out of my face, man. Go out there and say that shit in front of your boss that's sitting in the corner. Don't come over here and try and sugar talk me, bro. No, is the 75 still the 75? We have nothing to talk about. Man, they kicked off 25, but I still didn't like it. You was trying to make me the poster board for your new rules because y 'all was about to get sued. for all these head traumas and these concussions.

46:13James Harrison:Yeah, that's what it came down to. So, Debo, so you're saying, because I'm just trying to figure out, when was the change? Because there was jacked up. The change wasn't, the change itself, as far as what they did, they changed it in the middle of the game. Literally. Because I'm saying. Then they put rules into it the next week. New rules, you know, adjustment, da-da-da. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was two plays. It was like two or three plays, like back-to-back. Like, all these lawsuits were pending and compounding. Period. That's what it came down to. They're like, you know what? We got to show that we really into this concussion thing.

46:46James Harrison:We going to take care of players' safety and da-da-da-da-da before these lawsuits hit. Because they had already, all that stuff, it went down when it was like 2007 they had started, 2006, something like that, dude. It had originally started. And now it was coming to a head. Yeah. Dude, stop it. Stop it. I know what it is, bro. Like, you took a shot and they was like, yo, we're just going to find the hell out. And you're thinking like we're doing this on purpose. Finding the hell out of these guys is not going to stop accidents from happening. Oh. You hit a dude and, like you said, it's a bang, bang.

47:18James Harrison:You go to get lower. He ducks his head to protect himself. You duck your head to go and get down lower. And now you hit helmet to helmet. He gets woozy. You're fine. 15 yards. Ball keep going. and now you done lost$100 ,000,$50 ,000. Yeah. And you a dude that made half a mil. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So you really just lost$100 ,000. And you look, and if you go in there weak, you look crazy because you don't... It's not even about him going in there weak. You still, like, you can't come in there and be like, I'm going to keep my head out of it. No, no, that's what I'm saying. You realize what you're going in here?

47:52James Harrison:No, no, that's what I'm saying. Debo, Debo, going weak, going weak means you're thinking about it. When you're making reactions and you're just going and you're seeing it, you're just exploding and launching? Yes. You're starting to prepare and trying to angle it. That means, that's what I'm saying, you're going weak. Because you're like, you're not being able. You're going in there, and now you can catch the ball and keep going. They're like, how did you miss him? I'm trying to line them up the right way. I'm going to tell you right now, that catch that, was it Diggs? Diggs, on the sideline. Because he was afraid he was going to hit him.

48:26James Harrison:That's the only reason he missed that. A thousand percent. That's why the game now legitimately for, I mean, DBs especially has changed because them coming across the middle. It was when you when you would launch people, we launch and you come and you hit them up top and sweep their legs under. Right now, you got to launch like in this low. So when they're changing their body positions, if they can understand when he's coming down, I'm already trying to go lower. because if I launch, I'm already taking them off the top. So now I understand those ones that you're trying to take out of the league, understandable.

49:02James Harrison:The ones when dudes are coming across, that's safety first. So, like, we see, we lining them up because that's the way you know we're going to dislodge this ball and it's going to be bomb. You've got to line him up. He's coming across the middle. You've got to catch the ball. You have to line him up. Defenseless receiver. Defenseless receiver, you go, you line him up, right? The last second he sees you, you got him lined up and he do that. Now the bottom of your helmet hits the top of his chin. Now it's flagged. Now it's flagged. I'm saying if you are that area for the players, if you jumping up, launching, and going up top, flagged.

49:40James Harrison:If he's catching the ball coming down and you still nying him, you're trying to go down, but that space, you can't time that. There's no way. So if that helmet, helmet, that's accidental. So with those, it's like. That's why they take out in 10. It don't matter. No, no, no. What I'm telling you is the way it should be, the way that the game is, the way that it should be is if he's coming down, you know, there's nothing we could do. We're coming, we're trying to tackle, we're trying to go low. That should be no harm, no foul. When he's coming across and we see the lineup and then we jump into him and line, boom, throw it at us.

50:14James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? Because we can get that. Like we can see the angle. We can go a little lower and take him low instead of going high. The ones when he's catching and he's coming down with the ball, We used to be able to hit him before he hits the ground on the second bounce. Now we're just trying to find him and hit somewhere because you got to have some type of punishment or cause about going across the middle. That's what makes football football. That's what got intimidated back in the day. You're not just running across. You can do it. You just got to play dirty. Yeah. That's dirty.

50:46James Harrison:And you sometimes have to do it. If you're a dude like you that got a damn tight end coming across, that's damn old dude we got. Washington. If he coming across the middle and you catching him coming across the middle and he probably catch the ball. It's unfortunate. It's going to be unfortunate. Because I'm going for that leg. I have to. I'm shooting through your knee because I don't want to hit your thigh and put myself out of my neck. Swipe them joints out. because as soon as you turn to see me, I'm not, I'm going to hit me with a meanest stiff arm. Boom. And then what? In front of my wife and kids?

51:22James Harrison:No, sir. I got to take them legs out, coach. I got a family to feed. Got to go. Got to go. I got family to feed. You think I got, you think I could go home and let this play until my son's 16 and then he think he could do it to me too? Come on, man. I'm already victim weight. I got to show my fight or flight. I got to put him down. I got to put him down. God, my witness. You on the ground, Debo. Give me. Come on, I ain't never been scared to tackle. That's one thing. I ain't never been scared to tackle. Listen, man. Listen, Tom knows it, man. He played the game, man. He does. I tell you that. He sees it.

51:55James Harrison:He understands it. Like, it's. Those numbers. No. The fines that you want to make big like that is the fines where dudes is like, well, I'm going to wear my clothes however I want to. Debo, I was about to. Make those big like that. Debo, I promise you, I was about to say the same thing. The fines, I've never been fined for hitting somebody too hard. I've only been fined for trying to be too fly and wear my own gear and look away. We always got them people coming in. Joe, we need to see the socks. You know what I'm saying? You got too much, you know what I'm saying, your knee. You got to make sure.

52:31James Harrison:I'm like, okay, all right, check, check. But sometimes when you walk out there, I'm like, all right. So those fines, Debo, respectfully, because you need to make the uniform. It is uniform. Maybe not making this all look like an Under Armour mannequin. You know what I'm saying? Let us get a little bit of drip in there. No, no, no, no, no. You got a little uniform across the board. The uniform police. No problem with that, Joe. Okay. No, I'm rocking with it. I'm just saying, let me wear whatever color cleat. Can I wear any color cleats? Do you think cleats is a problem? I think it's only any color cleat when it's any color cleat time.

53:02James Harrison:This is their grounds. This is what they do. This is the NFL. You work for them. Okay, Debo. You dress at work with the fuck they tell you to wear. You don't go to Chick-fil-A and say I'm going to wear church chicken. I'm just trying to figure out this. Why do you make me have to try to cover my knees when I need my knee out? You know what I'm saying? That makes no sense. You're supposed to have a knee pad on. I shouldn't have no pads. That's crazy that they made me have to put pads in my pants. I'm a DB. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait. When I played football, I couldn't wait to go to the league.

53:31James Harrison:You can tell somebody that you've been in the fire. So I'm going to be out there with the slick pants, no pads. I only was able to do it my rookie season. And then they made thigh pads and knee pads mandatory. Are you kidding me? I ain't never got fine for my uniform. I don't need them. I know you didn't. Never. Never. Look, if I would have got, I should have went to the daggone eye doctor and been able to say, oh, I can't see in the dark. So like you did, so I can get the visor. That's what I should have did. Like I did? I had a blown out orbitable. Like, I blew out my order, a whole potato chip bone gone.

54:04James Harrison:Boom. Okay, no, my bad. My bad, D-Bo. My bad. My bad. You the only person that's supposed to have it. My bad. My bad. That's my bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad. My bad.

54:30James Harrison:My bad. I'm trying to tell you, yo. 7 ,500. And I wore it twice, and then next week, 15 ,000. I'm like, I'm never wearing this vibe. I can only wear it during the pre-game. Joe, take that visor off. Here, Joe. Here, Joe. God. That's why everybody's looking so sweet. You get them pictures and everything. Like, why you take the visor off? Look, Deebo, look at, that's what I'm talking about. I'm in the pre-game. I'm in the pre-game with the visor. And then they're like, all right, Joe, go ahead, take it off. Take it off. Put the clear one on. I'm like, why? They're like, you know you're going to get, are you going to hit that fine?

55:02James Harrison:Go ahead and pay that fine if you want to. No, sir. I got light sensitivity, Joe. I got a scratch cornea or retina or something in there.
