In short
Steelers/Patriots football talk—Falcons naming Tua Tagovailoa as Week 1 starter vs. Pittsburgh; Steelers’ view on stopping Tua and Bijan Robinson; Steelers running back room being overlooked; Patriots-Christian Gonzalez trade/contract drama and whether he’ll get paid before Joey Porter Jr.; also discussion of Roger Goodell’s new NFL extension.
Guests/backgrounds
Hosts are James “Debo” Harrison and Joe Hayden (no other guests named). They discuss from a Steelers fan perspective and include personal football anecdotes (Debo’s son’s high school game; Joe’s analysis of a violent tackle video).
Key claims
- Steelers must “maintain” Bijan Robinson; if Tua beats them throwing, “hell to pay.”
- Jalen Warren and Rico Dowdle are overlooked because they’re quiet/low-profile, not flashy; offensive line consistency is the main question.
- Christian Gonzalez’s “be where my feet are” comments suggest he’s focused but open to trade/contract leverage; Steelers expect Joey Porter Jr. to be paid first.
- Goodell’s pay is largely performance-based and tied to league revenue/metrics.
Notable examples
- Falcons Week 1 starter announcement: Tua vs. Steelers.
- Steelers RB production example: Warren + Dowdle combined cited as 2,034 rushing yards.
- Patriots: Gonzalez reportedly seeking trade; contract timing compared to Porter Jr.’s last-year situation.

4:16Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison. And I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. How you doing today? I'm doing great, brother Debo.
4:33James Harrison:I'm doing great. You see, I see you with the good Kent State. You know I'm rocking my Gators. You know I'm rocking the Gators. Out there, college football. I'm only rocking it because I'm rocking it. Yeah. How did y 'all do? How did y 'all do? Man, we got a lot of stuff. Y 'all got the edges. Did y 'all get paid? Did y 'all get paid to do it? Hey, we accomplished the mission. Okay. You went there and got that bagged up. Joe, Joe, we accomplished the mission, baby. We got that money right for them, baby. We got that money right for them. I don't care what nobody say. They can say whatever they want to.
5:05We got that money right for them.
5:06James Harrison:Y 'all got that check? Oh, shit. And that's what y 'all needed to do. Got it. The Gators, the same thing. We went and put the Florida Atlantic. You know what I'm saying? and they came and got that bag. What was the score, though? What was the score, though? I ain't like 50-something. You know, we beat them by 40-something. You know, it just was what it was. Just out there, you know, that's what we needed to do. The Florida Gators, we back. We back, baby. Y 'all back. Not yet. Not yet. Not yet. The children of the poor? Week one, you know what I'm saying? I'm going to let you know when we get to some SEC competition.
5:36James Harrison:My offense, my quarterback, Debo, was looking great because he's throwing the ball down the field. And we got to... Anybody could. I could throw the ball down the field against who y 'all said? Florida Atlantic? All right, Debo. There you go. I don't care what you say. But look, look. Say that now. But how about Michigan? Michigan wasn't passing against Eastern or Western Michigan. They couldn't put up no points. So Western Michigan. Yeah. All that. So Michigan out there, all that money they paying them players. And they couldn't get Western Michigan out of the way. So Florida, we went and go ahead with what we had to do against Florida Atlantic.
6:13James Harrison:Smack him out of the way. That's exactly what Michigan was supposed to do. And looking silly. Bro, bro. You didn't even. Broody poo. Bro, bro. You didn't even watch the game, Joe. I didn't. I watched the final. They should have lost. Michigan should have lost, bro. Michigan definitely should have lost. We're saying the same thing. Like, what are we talking? That's what we're saying. That's what I'm saying. Florida, we did what we had to do. You're saying you happy because y 'all stumped somebody lights out that y 'all should have. Michigan should have stomped the lights out of Eastern Michigan or which Michigan was it that they played?
6:50James Harrison:Western. Western Michigan should have got stomped by Michigan because they came in, got paid$1.5 million and they should have won. So I'm saying the school that's paying you to come in, you post a dog, you post something, get your check, take your little stumps, take your little belt whooping and go on your business. When you come in there and make it look crazy. Like, ho, we paid y 'all and y 'all came in here and tried to whoop us in our crib? That's crazy. What they supposed to do, Joe? That's what they're supposed... Look, D-Bo, you talking about both sides of your neck. Because when I'm telling you Florida did what we were supposed to do, you're like this, what were they supposed to do?
7:27James Harrison:And then when we talking about Western Michigan, they coming in there... You said they wasn't even supposed to try and y 'all come in here and y 'all try and beat us. They should. That's what they should do. That's what they should do. That's what Florida Atlantic tried to do. And they couldn't. Yeah. Man, what else you do this weekend, brother? What else I do this weekend? It's us. Hey, happy Labor Day. Happy Labor Day, my brother. Happy Labor Day. Happy Labor Day, my brother. My son's birthday is on Wednesday. Joey turning double digits, turning 10 years old. Yes, sir. Super excited about it.
7:59James Harrison:We having a birthday party for him. That boy Super Old. That boy Super Old. He getting up there, man. He getting up there. That boy Super Old. I seen your boys up there. How was the game? You sent me a violent video. Look at it, Joe. Hey, Joe, listen. I don't even know how to text deja vu. It looked like deja vu. Joe, you got to stop. Now, this is what happened. Let me tell you what happened, man. So this is what happened, Joe. You seen the play, right? Yes, I seen the play. He was running. He was running. He was running. He was running the rock. Running like he was going to run. He was quarterback, but he was running the rock.
8:36But then he threw it at the last second. Now, the problem was he hit him good, shoulder off to the side, head off to the side. I slow motioned it. I slow motioned it. Right. When the head went down, it hit his shoulder pad and his helmet popped off.
8:52James Harrison:It was the whiplash effect that made it look way more violent. But it was violent because it was shoulder. I slowed it down because when I first looked at it in real speed, Debo, it looked like he almost took his head off with his head. So I was like, oh, my God. Boom. And his helmet flew off. I was like, is his head inside of that helmet? I was like, oh, my goodness, this looks crazy. So then I slowed it down because I looked at my brother. I was like, oh, my God. I slowed it down. I said, oh, he moved his head to the side, went right into him, and his head came down, hit him in the shoulder, and slammed back.
9:25James Harrison:I was like this. Whoa. Perfect. That's not his fault. I said, dang, that's a great looking hit. But he hit him very hard. And that's what made it look crazy. It made it look like it hit him in the head. But when you hit somebody and it starts snapping, you didn't get hit directly. If you slow it down, it's like, man, you got whiplash. If you get hit in the chest, your head's coming forward so fast, and you whip. Thank you. So I slowed it down, Debo. I wanted to say for sure, because when I first looked at the video, you said, my son almost got kicked out. I was like, oh, man, let me look. Wham!
9:54James Harrison:I'm like, oh, yeah, he hit him right with his helmet. I slowed it down. Right. And I said, okay. I'm looking at it. I'm like, dude, the quarterback was way taller than him. I'm like, there's no way he hit him in his head. He would have had to jump up to do it. I seen him, you know, bend down to make the tap, to form it up. And, you know, once he realized he had threw the ball, because, you know, it was simultaneous. You know what I'm saying? It was same foot, same shoulder. With the helmet, when that threw. When the helmet popped off. Same shoulder. I said, Joe, I said, oh. I said, I know. I said, I know.
10:29I said, I know what's coming next. They about to say who it is. James Harrison III. I said, he already got a pre-wrapped. He ain't even got no fine.
10:42James Harrison:Man, been playing good, clean football. Man, listen. That was a clean hit. It was just powerful. Sometimes you know how to hit Sardee when you get a flag for getting hit too hard, for hitting somebody too hard. Yes, that was what it was, Joe. It looks too violent. I said, I said. It looks too violent. Something's wrong. You're not supposed to be able to hit nobody like that. I'm like, nah, because every part of the body was where he was supposed to. He didn't know. No helmet hit helmet. His helmet hit his shoulder pad and flew off. I'm like, ah. Rob Markman - Right. It was on the rebound too, this one.
11:16He got hit, boom, and helmet popped off.
11:21James Harrison:Dude grabbed the helmet so fast, I thought his head was in too. I'm like, oh man. Rob Markman - You cut the video off after he was on the ground for me. So as soon as he hit, y 'all, video done. I was like, yo, that's good. Rob Markman - Listen, listen. Rob Markman - He got up. He played. He played. Like, he was just a little upset. His helmet flew off. Like, you should have put your 10-stripe on. I don't even know what happened right there. But anyway, Joe, the game, this was the longest game that I ever played or been at in a high school game in the history of my life, Joe. It was starting at 7.
11:53The game didn't end until 9.57, bro. It was a real life, three hours, like it was televised. It wasn't no TVs nowhere, bro. the first quarter wasn't over until 7 34 what? Halftime what was the refs was trying to keep him in the game I ain't gonna lie was it passing when they weren't in the bowl
12:17James Harrison:man they was just calling flags stopping the clock every day stopping the clock man refs was trying to keep him in the game man I ain't gonna lie to you by the time halftime got there it was it was 846 halftime by the time we got to halftime it was yeah once the first half it was 846 bruh all the way in Pottstown PA bruh all the way all the way by Philly did they get the dub? they got the dub it was 7-44 7-44 yeah I told you the rest were trying to keep them in the game bruh it was close it was close all the way up like that fur had and then they went on ahead and go ahead and put it on them. Yeah.
13:03Yeah, they had the running clock and all that, so that made the second half shorter. So, yeah.
13:09James Harrison:Glad we got the dub. Glad I seen my boy. Hey, healthy? Got off the game healthy? Got off the game healthy. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. There we go. That's the main thing. That's what he was like. He was like, Dad, am I playing like shit? I said, yep. Yep. So after the game, he was like, at least we got out healthy. I'm like, yes, sir. Players are lures. We can fix what's going on on the field. We can fix the tape. No question. As long as you good to go, my boy. Yeah. He got out there, and he was running around. You know how you get that high run, blind dog in the meat factory. He missed two blatant tackles.
13:46I'm like, I'm sitting over there. I'm mad. I'm trying not to look mad, though, because people looking at me, they want to look and see it.
13:54James Harrison:I'm like, nah. I'm like, nah, that's my son. I'm here as Pops first. You know what I'm saying? He going to get right. Yeah, for sure, for sure. Look here, man. We got a little bit of breaking news, I guess. It's a good thing for the Steelers, it looks like. Hey. Tua, name the starter for the Atlanta Falcons in week one. Joseph, what do you think about? Listen, listen. For Tua, I am excited for him because, you know, he's getting another opportunity. You know how that is in the league, in the quarterback. Once you got chopped for Miami, you got your contract. this is his final straw to really show if he can still be a quarterback in this league and this is going to be his chance i'm happy for him for the pittsburgh steelers okay let's go it is tua back there that is going to be the quarterback you know i'm saying i don't know what to expect for him to be out there i'm i'm liking us to understand listen we want him to have to beat us throwing the ball because the person they do have in Atlanta, B.
14:52James Harrison:John Robinson, we got to make sure that he's shut down. We got to make sure that the running game, all eyes on him. They got Drake London is nice at receiver. We're going to have Joey Porter Jr. We're going to have Jalen Ramsey, secondary. Y 'all keep your eyes on y 'all's work, but everybody needs to keep their eyes on B. John Robinson's work because when we go into now, when we play Atlanta Falcons, like one dimensional, he can do, he can catch screens. He can do it all ways. But if he's getting that ball, he's the main thing. If we stop him, we win the game. Maintain B. John Robinson. If we have to make Tua Tungvalua beat us with his arm, and me and you sit here and watch that, and it's not B.
15:32James Harrison:John Robinson, and we lose to Tua, oh, it's going to be hell to pay for Pittsburgh Steelers. Because I'm like, end of the day, we know who we got to go beat. DBs, you playing versus Tua Tungvalua. Linebackers, D-line, everybody. B. John Robinson is a problem. He's a man. He's nice in this league. He's not, we're not just giving him credit where it's not due. So what we need to do is Hat, Pell, McQueen, P-Dub, TJ Watt, Cam Hayward. Like this is a game where, you know, we know what it is as a defense. We got to go out there and establish ourselves as we're not going to let, when we know if they have, if we play against the Bengals, all right, we know now secondary, stand up.
16:14James Harrison:It's going to be more of a DB game. We can't let the ball go over our heads. Right now, when we're playing against Atlanta, Tua, okay? It's Tua Tungabalua. No disrespect, but we got to see. Look, when we talk about this, who would you rather pick your poison? Tua or Bijan Robinson? I'm going to go with Tua Tungabalua. So I'm going to get our defense stand up front eight. Stand up. We know what we got to do. And then the secondary. If we look anywhere crazy going versus Tua in them, out, then there's going, then yo, do you see me stuttering? I don't even know what I'm going to say. They're going to know.
16:53We're going to look nuts. Yeah, I'm used to you stuttering with Brown stuff. I ain't going to lie to you about that. You signed a lot of weed stuff too today, so I was trying to, I realized you kept giving me the name so I knew who you was talking about, but you know. Debo, you know what I'm talking about. Tua, you coming back to Pittsburgh, you know? And I know you're not happy about that, but I mean, I mean, at least this time you're going to have some warmer weather, you know. But the punishment we're going to put out there that's going on, I think it's going to be worse. And then you add on top of that, you're learning a new system.
17:28You're learning a new everything. That stadium is going to be loud. It's going to be rocking. I'm going to be right there, okay. You're going to have to show what you got because, you know, this is his last chance as a quarterback in the league.
21:04And for us, somebody's problem is other people's problems.
21:10James Harrison:We can't be worried about other people's problems. You know what I'm saying? So I'm not going to be here to be proud for Atlanta. What Coach T said is they problems and I'm glad they got them. Because if they was our problems, ain't nobody worried about our problems. No question. Facts. As a matter of fact, man, Sports Illustrated, man, they said the Steelers have the most overlooked running back room in the NFL. Joe, what do you think or what do you think the reason is that they're overlooking this team? What do you think why they're overlooking our running back duo? I don't know. I don't know.
21:55James Harrison:I feel like Jalen Warren never really gets the credit that he deserves. And especially when he's a he comes in work pale. When we had him and Najee Harris at the same time and I could just see him hitting the hole, the explosiveness, the way that he just can block. He can run. He can do everything as a running back. But he's just quiet. He don't say nothing. He stays out the way. He doesn't make any noise. So it's like he doesn't promote himself. So he's just kind of stand out the way. he comes to work and he does his job. And that's mainly, I think, why sometimes he goes under the radar. If you watch the Steelers, people that watch the Steelers know Jalen Warren's a dog.
22:31James Harrison:If you pay attention to our offense, you see him when he gets the ball. You see him in pass protects. You see when he catches screens. You're like this. Oh, who is that dude? So if people don't really watch the Steelers, he's not a household name just because he's chill. He's quiet. He doesn't go out there and you wouldn't know if you didn't know. That's just, I think, a reason why people don't know him. With Rico Dottle, I don't know. He's been able to do it in Dallas. Then he went and did it in Carolina. And he's just the same thing. Work pale. Comes to work, doesn't say much, and does his job.
23:02James Harrison:So I think sometimes people just, the flashy names, the people that people know, the ones that are, just because he doesn't go to the Pro Bowl doesn't mean they're not dogs. People that study tape and people that watch film and know, this dude right here, he gets after it. He hits the hole. He does everything running backs can do. With them two, last year, if they combined it, They would have had 2 ,000 to 34 rushing yards combined between the both of them. That's production. That's balling. That's doing your job. It doesn't matter who you are. Now I think the one thing we would have to go into is our offensive line.
23:36James Harrison:I would think maybe nobody, they're not too sure. Like, it takes two to tango. You can't just hand them the ball and, you know what I'm saying, make something happen. There has to be holes. There has to be, you know what I'm saying, things that can happen there. So the only reason why I would look at our running back duo is just because I'm not too sure of how consistent our offensive line is going to be. If our offensive line works and we get that push and we get them that first three yards, we can always, we're not starting behind the sticks. They're not getting hit in the backfield when they first get the ball.
24:04James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? If it's looking like, okay, boom, we got a scheme. We got holes that we're hitting. Looks smooth. So I think with them, with our offensive line, if they can look and just develop and start working together, we can get some camaraderie at the line. I think that'll help out people to believe in our running backs. But I believe in our backs, for sure. Because you don't got to tell me just because they're not a household name, I know them. I watched their tape. They hit the hole. They do what running backs need to do to be successful. Yeah. I'm not going to lie to you, Joe.
24:34I kind of like it this way. Like, this is what is going to help them keep that chip on their shoulder. We talked to them at camp. And we talked about, you know, what do you do to keep that chip on your shoulder? Hey, this is how. This is it. You understand? Like you said, they got to combine rushing together, if you took their stuff together, 2 ,034 yards. That's a dynamic backfield right there. And to be honest with you, I don't know if compared to what it is now, you take the duels in the NFL, I don't know how many guys actually have more than that. Dowdle, like you said, back-to-back 1 ,000-yard seasons.
25:15Warren he just had his uh his best year last year and I think each year before that it was was pretty decent well actually I think each year before that was better except for 24 24 he didn't because he was also hurt though he had injuries so that's something else that in 24 but from his rookie year all the way to now he has gotten better and I think he's going to be even better this year so i think um another thing that why a lot of people just really overlook it is because of like us this is i like really like what we have been since what 2017 and you know it's it's two different things i'll say so the first one is i would say we're a team in that i'd say 2017 2017 to 2020 like we were good that's what i got there we were good on offense or defense or we was good on both.
26:26Matter of fact, if you look back, 2017, we got bounced out in the first round and we had a third-ranked offense and a fifth-ranked defense. 2018, we didn't even make the playoffs.
26:38James Harrison:Was it 2017 when we got bounced out after we got in by Jacksonville when we had to buy? Jacksonville. That was Jacksonville, 2017. Yep. Had a third-ranked defense. I mean, sorry, I had a third-ranked offense and a fifth-ranked defense. 2018, they didn't even make the playoffs with a fourth offense and a sixth defense. 19, missed again, had a fifth-ranked defense, but the offense was bad then, though. It was like, it was 30th then. Now, you go to 20, knocked out again, fifth-place defense. It was 24-place offense. Now, the second thing and the number two thing why I think people are like not giving them credit or our whole team credit is.
27:30We've been a team that has overachieved, too, with the talent we had. So we underachieved when we had that talent and then we overachieved as far as they saw it from those 21 to 25 years where we were bad on both sides of the ball. Our offense in that time frame didn't rank any higher than 23, as low as 25 last year. And then the defense hadn't been higher than a 12. And the low was 26 this year. So when you look at that and then you look at the scenarios that happened, we made the playoffs every year except for 24 from 21 to 25. So that's the part of the overachieving with less. but then you don't even really get nowhere with it.
28:18You just go in there and you get bounced out. But at the beginning of the year, they got you not even winning.
28:26James Harrison:Got you showing a record going to be trash, but then you end up getting it. What is worth, like you said, overachieving by just winning just enough games to make it to the playoffs. But if you make it to the playoffs and lose in the first round, it's all irrelevant. There's one goal at the end of every year, and it's to win the Super Bowl. So making it to the playoffs, just limping in there, It's like, okay, team, that's good, but what is it worth if we're not going to be able to get to the dance? Yeah, but that's what I'm saying. That's why they're so heavy on or so overlooked on our running back duel.
28:57And as you said, once you combine that with, you know, how how bad we were, like just last year as a whole team, like statistically speaking, like the worst, almost the worst Steelers team that they had ever had. The 25th and 25th were we ended up. You know, and now you add in a new head coach, a whole new staff. You're talking about new everything. And then you bring him back. Oh, man, Rogers. So you basically go run the same team back and you think these media analysts and the reporters are going to mess up their reputation looking at that and thinking with the history of how things would go.
29:42No, they ain't going to put no on that. And for me, the biggest reason, as you were saying, dude, is our offensive line? Right. They have not showed any consistency. Like, not like I'm not even asking for like great. I'm asking for like, okay, good consistency, dude. Like if they had showed something like that during the preseason, then yeah, I would, I would feel a little better. Cause right now I can't come out here and talk crazy and goofy right now no more. As I was talking when it was, you know, draft and, and, and, and, and, and the free agency. All that. As much as I would like to confidently be like, yo, yeah, we're going to go out.
30:30I'm a little reserved. I'm hoping we're able to go out there and do it. And when you add on top of that, again, we don't have an offensive line that has a had two games that was the same line that we're playing together. And when you're talking about building camaraderie and being able to have an offensive line that can play together, you got to have that. And we haven't had that yet. And, you know, I hope we don't have it, but I think we're going to have a little bit of growing pains in that first week. I don't know if that will turn into L's or not. I don't think it will, but I think it will turn into some bad plays, maybe bad quarters, you know, however that may look.
31:08And that's the big reason why I feel like, you know, the Steelers running back room, you know, our duel has been overlooked.
31:17James Harrison:Yeah, I think the same thing, we on the same page, D-Bow. the skill positions, like we said, everything, like we got it in the skill positions, not the running backs problem. You know what I'm saying? I feel like if we get that consistent line play, then we can be good to go. Jalen Warren, Rico Dottle, established running backs in this league, but you can't be one of the best running backs in the league when you're getting hit behind the backfield consistently, where you don't start off, you know what I'm saying, in the second level a couple of times. There's got to be holes. When you see Saquon had these runs and you see they're running through holes at first and then they're getting hit to the second level and then you make somebody miss, make a safety miss, you could take it all away.
31:58James Harrison:So you're not just getting, you don't, you have to have holes. So your line has to be able to create those. It always starts up front, bro. Always. Yeah, always. Everything started up front, man. And look here, man, the New England Patriots still have not been able to get a deal done with their star cornerback Christian Gonzalez. So we're going to listen to what he had to say on the media about a potential trade request. Listen, I mean, I'm here right now. I'm here. Like I said, I'm worried about this practice, focused on this practice. I'll always be where my feet are and do what I got to do.
32:41Joe, what are you saying? What are you saying, Joe?
32:44James Harrison:What did that man say, Joe? What did he say? Run that one more time. What did he say? Run that one more time. I mean, I'm here right now. I'm here. Like I said, I'm worried about this practice, focused on this practice. I'll always be where my feet are and do what I got to do. Yeah. You heard that, man, D-Bow. What are you saying? What are you saying? What are you saying, Joe? What do you mean, Joe? Being where my feet are, that's day by day. I'm where I am right now in this present moment. And yeah, it is what it is. I'll let y 'all know what it's going to be tomorrow. Right now, I am standing exactly where my feet are.
33:18James Harrison:I'm in this interview right now. Right now, I'm talking to Debo. I'm having this conversation. I am where my feet are. That man said... He just don't want him. He don't want him in no drama. Hey, hey, hey. Uh-uh, uh-uh. Listen, that man said a lot. He said, I'm here right now. Yeah. Hey, so I'm going to be where or wherever I'm at. And right now, that's it. That's it with New England Patriots. Right now, that's it. But I'll always be where my feet are. That's facts, Joe. That's facts. Because if your feet ain't there and you there, somebody done cut your motherfucking feet off. okay listen Joe you don't want nobody taking your feet you gotta be where your feet are you have to or your legs you're footless if you're not what the hell he also said he was gonna do what he gotta do yes now Joe here's the thing what's up he didn't say what I gotta do it's tricky.
34:39It's a tricky situation when you start listening to it, Joe. So, Joe.
34:48I... All right. I don't care. Go ahead. Say it. Okay. So, I was always told by my mama that it's only one thing I got to do in life. Sorry, it was two things I had to do in life. She said, stay black and die. That's it. Joe, I'm serious. I'm serious. So, you can do whatever you want to do in this world. Okay. All right. But, you can't change your DNA and you can't live forever. All right. Yep. Now, you can do something illegal and you can pay the consequences for it. But that's still, you know, whatever that may be. but you still gonna end up staying black and not anyway my point was this
35:44be where you want to be and do what you got to do now is that a do what i got to do like um a marshawn lynch uh like i'm just here so i don't get fine you know what i'm saying or is that I'm just going to play a season out and keep it going?
36:05James Harrison:This is what I'm trying to figure out right now. It's how he's a first-round pick. So he signed a five-year contract. Correct. That was my next question. So where I'm looking at it where it's like, okay, Christian, I respect it, everything about wanting to get paid early, but this is two years early. Do you know what I'm saying? Like once you're a first round pick, you normally you don't want to go into your last year of your contract with just one year left. Hey, hold up. Hold up. Hold up. Hold up. Who do you think go get paid first? See him or this is what I'm this is what I'm telling you. Peasy, Lil Peasy is in a situation where this is his contract year.
36:47James Harrison:Your contract year when you're in the NFL is right before you have one year left on your contract. So if you go in, always, we know, if you go in playing the last year of your deal, that's basically like they wasn't trying to rock with me. Because if you're rocking with me, when I have one year left on my contract, when I'm still here with you guys this offseason, we're going to get this extension done because you guys see me in my future. So that's basically, that's NFL known. Right, Debo, would you say? Right. So Joey Porter Jr. right now is in his, going into his final year of his contract.
37:17James Harrison:My man, Christian Gonzalez, love it to death, but you still have this year at 2.8, and then you have your next year, fifth year option that could pick up at$18 million. They already picked it up. So they have you for two more years right now anyway. So basically, if you play right now, it's good for you to be able to get it out the way, and it'll be cool. But end of the day, you're going to have to play there because they still have your rights for two more seasons. That's super early. It's like, I understand what you're doing, but when you do this with one year left, it's you and the team. Like, come on, guys.
37:50James Harrison:Y 'all know. This is me. I'm still here under contract. I'm going to be for the next season. But right after that last game, I'm free. Unless y 'all going to start tagging and doing all that stuff. But normally, it's like after the season, y 'all know I'm free. I can go. And they would think now your rights are off so you can go. So for me and Lil Peasy, I'm looking at like Steelers, it's more, come on, guys. He's on the last year of his contract. Like, you did get him in the second round to where you don't have the fifth-year option. You don't have the chance to pick that up, like with Broderick Jones.
38:20James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? If you were to be able to have Joey Porter, if Joey Porter was a first-round pick one year earlier, then he has no more leg to stand on right now. We're still sitting there like, Joey, you got to go get it one more time. You know what I'm saying? And then because they can add in. With Christian Gonzalez, after this season, he makes 2.8, but it's guaranteed 18.1 for his fifth-year option. So he's like, boom. If they're going to sign my extension there, it's already 18. I'm already playing on a one for 18.1. So the new$30 million money that you want per extension is going to be smooth.
38:50James Harrison:You add that extension, say, four years,$120 million, plus your one year for 18. That's a five-year, you know what I'm saying,$130-some million. Cool. With Joey Porter Jr., he doesn't have no contract, no fifth-year option. It's like, guys, we're going to work this thing out right now because I've already done. I've done the three years. I signed the four-year. Christian is trying to hit them a little bit earlier. And because at the end of the day, Christian has an all-pro and he has a pro bowl. So he got the stuff to go with it and people walking around. And this is for eye tests. He has ball skills.
39:24James Harrison:He's very fluent. And he looks like an elite corner. So when you talk about getting that money, oh, he got all-pro on you. He got a pro bowl. And his first season, his rookie season, he missed 13 games. So when he came back, rookie, like, comeback player of the year, made all-pro that season. and then last season, he goes Pro Bowl. So it's like he's on the way. So he could be able to get a contract for sure. The Patriots would be right to be like, man, we can lock. I mean, it's possible. But I think Joey Porter Jr. is way more probable, I think, to get his deal because he's on the last year of his contract.
39:59James Harrison:They have his rights for two more years. Balling, keep doing what you're doing. They're going to extend him. Looking for something new? And for Young Peasy, this is, we don't climb to the final hour where he has one year left on his contract. Come on, he's been doing his thing.
43:24James Harrison:Get him out the way. yeah for sure for sure look my thing is same as you as you said dude you got you got two years left on your deal and when it comes down to it you can if they choose not to trade you you can go and say you go sit out or you know whatever you need to do that you don't play um but if you sit out you don't get that credit a year which means they hold on to you for another year because you didn't get a credit season so you still got another year on your contract and if you go and you don't play and make like you can't play ain't nobody gonna pick you up if you do that you got to do that for two years yeah like so he really ain't in a position of power right now when it really comes down to it but as you said it it could be done because i also know how you know robert craft deals with you know and how he moves with his players he's a person that you know does a little more for his players than most people that I've seen in the organization.
44:24So it's a possibility. But I don't think by any stretch of the imagination will he get paid before Joey Porter gets paid. We need to pay PZ. Like right now, what is we waiting on, bruh? Like what is we waiting on? I have no idea, Debo. We just waiting for the final hour.
44:43James Harrison:When I was in, when I was C-team I don't know. I don't know why.
44:52I have no clue, man. I'm lost on this. Again, I'm lost on this. Well, maybe it's, like I said, at least they talking. You know what I'm saying? It ain't no way he practicing without some type of talking going on. I would assume that. But it must not be where it needs to be. Who knows? You know what I'm saying? And I know how the Steelers work. They go give you that first low, low, low. But we ain't got that time right now, man. Y 'all worked with me for about two, three months, whatever it was, in that process. But we got like two, three days. For sure. We got to move this a little faster, man.
45:31Get my man around that right there, that top corner, or right below it and put some accolades and add it to it and make it to where it could be at that number with those guys that had those accolades, you know? I just, man, listen, I hope we ain't fiddle-faddling, you know, over five or six, you know what I'm saying? Like, come on, let's go ahead and get it.
45:59James Harrison:Nah, I believe it's going to get done, D-Bo. You're exactly right, though, because it needs to. He's in his last year of his deal, and like we said, with Christian Gonzalez, he got two more years left. Joey Porter doesn't. He got one year left on his deal. Yeah. Hey, you know who just got a new deal, too? roger goodell has signed a four-year extension with the nfl at the end of the newest deal that owners were notified about today goodell will be nearly 72 years old and will have served as nfl commissioner for 24 years goodell's contract has been this has not been disclosed However, last contract was reportedly$64 million a year.
46:54Joe, why they paying Roger like that, Joe? Why they getting him that amount of money?
46:59James Harrison:Let me tell you why. And let me tell everybody this why, okay? Roger Goodell does not work for the NFL players. He does not. Now, Roger Goodell works for the NFL owners. There are 32 teams in the NFL. Roger Goodell gets paid by each one of these owners. So just say if we're talking about$64 million, there's 32 teams. That's$2 million a team. Okay? $2 million per owner. That's not it. Now, when you break it down like that, it doesn't sound as crazy. Also, listen to me deeper. Listen to me, Debo. I'm going to tell you why. The owners aren't sad about this because Roger Goodell started in 2006 to be the owner, the commissioner, right?
47:53James Harrison:The teams were valued when Roger Goodell took over at an average of$900 million a team in 2006. Right now, the average is around$7 billion per team. Woo! So let me tell you this. 24 years, Joe, that's only supposed to double twice, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, so, so, so, so, so, so, so. When you telling me that when you work for somebody, the owners are making so much more money. If that's my, Roger Goodell's working for me and he's changing up my investor, changed my$900 million to$7 or$9 billion. I would not be mad at all. He's going to get a raise. I would pay that man$2 million a year for my thing.
48:40James Harrison:He's doing a great job as running the NFL, as making the owners money. So for them, writing him his contract, not being upset to cut him his little$2 million per team, yes, when you're making me hand over foot money, when you're getting me these endorsement deals, when you're getting me these TV deals that are coming in where I get a check for$350 million, before I sell a soda, I'm going to give you a raise. You're doing a good job, Mr. Roger Goodell. So if I'm an NFL owner, that's what it is. Your NFL owner, he works for them. He's doing a great job. Want to hear about NFL, PL? No, no, no. He works for the NFL owners, and numbers say they went from$900 million to around$7 to$9 billion average per team.
49:26James Harrison:I'm giving you a pay raise, sir. You're doing nothing but great job for me. You're putting money in my pocket. So sign me up, Mr. Roger. So I think that's when you're looking at it like, dang, I'm first, I'm like, Roger Goodell making what? 60 million? Then 32 teams. Okay, the teams are making, okay, okay. Yes, okay, that makes sense. I could see how that makes sense. I can't hear you, Debo. You're muted. I can't hear you, Debo. I said I never looked at it like that. Come on. That's what I'm trying to tell you. That's cheap, Joe. Divo, break it down like that. Because I know you a smart man. Hey, Joe, but listen, I got to give you some information, though.
50:08I got to give you some information. Give me some information. Okay. Now, I was with you on everything you said until you said the two million. But that ain't how it worked. So, he did 64 last year, right? 64 last year, or whatever they said. 64. 64, whatever. We know at one point he was getting 50 of Jets and all that set. You know what I'm saying? Okay, so here's the crazy thing, Joe. Over 95 % of Rodgers Goodell's compensation is performance-based. It's tied to the league's performance. It's tied to them making them bread. Various metrics. So if he don't perform well, he don't get paid well.
50:53Now, this is what he just did. He just did a four-year deal. And this is what I really want to go into is that before that, he did a three-year deal year before that it was five and the year before that uh it was two three-year deals right okay but the nflpa leadership goes and signs two 10-year deals huh no actually i'm wrong they signed a 10-year deal and 11-year deal because they did it early Okay. The owners are smart enough to know that you don't sign a 10 year deal. And this man is making them that kind of money. His whole contract is performance. But 95 % of his conversation is performance based.
51:39And they still engage this man no more than a three year. Sorry, than a five year deal, a five year deal. Okay. And on the deals that he got more than three years. guess what what's up it was a cba that was about to come in 2020 was one of the years he got a five-year deal he negotiated the cba okay now the one before that it ended up being negotiated because he got the job and what was it 2009 and he just fell into it in the first three years So that was just a normal three year. They're like, we've got to see what you're going to do. Now, let's fast forward. Coming right now, this contract ends in what?
52:312031? Okay. And it expires, Joe, right at the new current CBA deadline of March of 2031. Listen, I ain't listening to me. Remember, Rodgers' contract is 95 % performance-based, and he's getting the NFL PA or talking to them to try and sign a deal before the lockout. Why would he do that? Performance-based. His main focus right now is a massive payoff in that performance if he's able to get them to sign an extension before it goes into lockout. So. Your NFL PA reps should be telling y 'all again, save money so you can withstand a good 18 months of being locked out. The NFLPA should never even consider signing the deal before that unless they can get 100 % of what it is they want.
53:47Okay. And if I'm an NFL owner, I'm an NFL owner now. Yes. I'm not signing the deal that doesn't benefit me because I already have you under contract until 31. Oh, yeah. there's no need for me to sign a deal until i'm losing money that's the only way they're going to sign a deal and that's why these guys need to save up for a lockout but i don't think the lockout would be that long because it looks like the nfl has uh media tv stuff until 31 33 Sorry, 33. Yes. So that means if something ain't done, by the time it was supposed to be time to play football games, in that 31 of March going into that season.
54:43So we got five more seasons? They're going to lose. They're going to lose. Right. They're going to lose money. So they'll have to sign a deal then. And again, just in case they don't and they want to play hardball, y 'all got to save up for 18. NFL PA has to be telling your players to save up. Like, the NFL is ready. And y 'all best get ready. And, dude, I'm – you know me. I like to get hyped up. Okay. Okay. And if and I was Roger Goodell and I had a massive bonus. Nah, they just gave him – what was that, 64? his contract ends right before, right at the same time as the CBA ends. I'm assuming there's some bonus.
55:31Wouldn't you assume? Yes. They probably could kick him up to a hundred million this year. Cause this might be his last year or it might be a hundred million and, uh, and extra, uh, another contract extension. If he gets that done and we signed you to another three or four years after this, maybe, but I'm just, I'm giving hypotheticals in my head. of how I might move if I was in this position, Joe.
55:57James Harrison:That's what I try to do. Listen, listen. I ain't through yet, Joe. I ain't through yet. This is where it gets wrecked. Go ahead. It gets wrecked. You tell, though. Because I got something for you. If it's me, Joe, if I'm Roger, I'm going to meet with the NFLPA heads, the executive committee, the people, whoever those guys are, the 32 guys that are going to throw in that vote. I only got to get 17 of them. All I need is 17 votes. to pass and get the new CBA in place because they don't get it from the players anymore. It's only whoever votes in there, they have no accountability of who you voted for.
56:35What goes on in there, it's just either it passed or it didn't pass. You don't know who voted yes. You don't know who voted no. So if it's me, hey, Joe, I'm A64 now. If I'm at 100, let me get 17 of y 'all and just say, hey, man, hypothetically, what if I dropped a million on you to vote yes when you're getting there. Ain't nobody going to know it was you. And you vote yes, keep it moving, you know, I'll get that meal to you. I'm just saying, Joe. I'm just, you know, I'm thinking a lot. That's what I'm just saying. I'm just being a devil advocate right here.
57:08James Harrison:I'm just talking about that. That is possible, Debo. That is possible. But all I'm here to tell you is, is Roger Goodell is making the NFL bread. And if you, as a businessman, when we step out and don't be like NFLPA, no, we're not talking about NFLPA right now. We're talking about the owners and we're talking about Roger Goodell getting a new contract. Dallas Cowboys, Deebo. Jerry Jones. The Dallas Cowboys in 2006 were evaluated at just over$1 billion. Just over$1 billion. Right now, in 2026, they're evaluated at$15.5 billion. dollars. So it's like since Roger was the owner, it went from $1 billion to$15...
57:49James Harrison:$14. $14. $14. $14. $14. Okay,$14. You know what? Some say $14. I said$14. Some say$14. You went up$14. You went up$14. Went up$14. Went up$14 billion. Just over$1 billion to$15.5. So when you're talking about Jerry Jones, he's going to make his money off the bag. He's representing the owners. I'm looking at Roger Goodell as an owner. The$64 million is irrelevant because what you're not understanding is I've made billions. Do you know what I'm saying? Like$14 billion. You know what I'm saying? We count his. You want use of a jet for lifetime? We count his money. What are we talking about? That's tough change.
58:31James Harrison:When we start talking about the NFL and the owners, it's so much money going around that these dudes are able to make. because when you talk about they're paying Patrick Mahomes$65 million. Yes, because they're paying the whole roster. Like, ownership money is at a different level than the players. You're like, oh, man, he getting – who you think paying this man? And we're sitting in his stadium. You know what I'm saying? Like, yo, it's actually an outrageous amount of money that the owners and stuff have. So when you talk about Roger Goodell's$64, like, yes, the Dallas Cowboys were$15 billion.
59:06James Harrison:Like, I don't even – do you know how much$1 billion is? 15 of them. That's just like outrageous amounts of money. Oh,$100 million,$200 million. He signed for$100 million? He got$100 guaranteed? Nothing. Got$15 billion. Bro, you know the squad? It's nothing. Forget about it. It's nothing. Get about it. Give Roger Goodell a PJ. Forget about it. It's nothing. Give the man a yacht. Forget about it. It's nothing. They're talking about the owners because they don't care. They got so much dough. Oh, my gosh. They're hand over foot. I ain't going to say they don't care. No, no, no. They care. They care.
59:43James Harrison:But if you got somebody making you the money, then I'll keep him around. He's got to keep him around. He's my money man. Roger, you good with me? You good with me, Roger. You know what I'm saying? As long as he making me money, man, I keep him around until he crippled, blind, and crazy. You understand? As long as he making me money, though. Come on.
