In short

The episode is a sports-and-combat-sports discussion focused on the Knicks winning the NBA championship over the Spurs in a 4-1 series, plus a UFC 250 reaction. Hosts James “Deebo” Harrison and Joe Hayden debate why the Spurs collapsed despite leading by double digits in every game, calling it a “colossal collapse.”

Key claims

Jalen Brunson carried New York in Game 5 (Brunson scored 45 of the team’s 48), and the Spurs’ coaching/timeout decisions and failure to adjust (including not doubling/blitzing Brunson) allowed New York to keep winning runs. Notable examples include multiple blown leads (12, 14, 16, and a 29-point lead) and the idea that no NBA team has ever had double-digit leads in every game and still lost 4-1. UFC segment: Justin Gaethje’s UFC 250 win—knocking out/finishing Ilia Topuria to become undisputed lightweight champion—sparks talk about violent, no-helmet combat and fight-ending preferences.

4:44Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host James Debo Harrison and I'm here with my co-host Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like subscribe and download where you get your show. How you doing today Joe?

4:59James Harrison:I'm doing good brother Debo doing great man. How are you? I'm doing good man. I'm doing real good man. New York You know, they was doing real good until they won. And then they just ain't know how to act. I told you them boys ain't know how to act, bro. It ain't even them. It's the fans, bro. They don't know how to act. They immediately, immediately, see what they was done. They showed 64 people got arrested. They stabbed four people. No. Had a shooting. Shot one person. They burnt up, what was it, four, five buses or something like that. They destroyed police vehicles. And they messed up 10 officers.

5:3510 officers reported injuries.

5:38James Harrison:Okay. Can we talk about the good first? Or are we just going to go to the fans going crazy? I didn't want them to win. Hey, listen, I was right about something, Joe. You was right about that. They don't know how the fans... I was right about something. 4-1. 4-1. It was just the wrong team. Gentleman sweep the wrong way. It was just the wrong team. It was just the wrong team, Joe. It was just the wrong squad. Did you see the last game? Did you see Jalen Brunson, Odebo? Dude, it didn't matter. It didn't matter, man. The Spurs, they couldn't do nothing, bro. Like, I don't – they could – listen, I don't understand.

6:14This is actually starting to, like, make me a little upset, bro. How do you have five, five double-digit leads in all these games? Yo, Lois was 12. They had a 12 lead. I think that was game two. 14 was in game one. They had 16 somewhere around there, game three. And then four, like, y 'all, I don't know how you do that. Y 'all had an opportunity right there to just go ahead and make that thing 2-2. And then you lost a 14-point lead in the last one.

6:42James Harrison:Yes. Yes. It speaks more on New York, Debo. No, it don't, dude. It speaks on the collapse of the Spurs, dude. Oh, my God. You're tripping out of your mind. You're tripping out of your mind. They might not have been ready. The coaching, right? The coaching, playing De 'Aaron Fox a little bit more, they might not have been ready. But the Knicks going into this, nobody was expecting this to happen. If you would have said a gentleman sweep off the rip, everybody would have thought we were tripping. Do you not remember the alien? Do you not see what these girls are doing? Like, all of a sudden, honestly.

7:18Well, obviously, somebody cannot get together what they need to do after they get into these large leads. So if you can get a large lead like that, It's obviously not your players. So it comes at a point in time where you got to be like, hey, if your player is not doing well, let me switch him out and get somebody else in there.

7:37James Harrison:You're right. Hey, let me call a timeout. Yes, yes. It takes a team. It takes two teams. It takes a team to lose and a team to come back. So that team is missing three-pointers, not doing what they need to do, coaching errors, not calling timeouts, doing the runs. But at the same time, the other team is doing those runs, getting those stops. You know what I'm saying? So I'm looking at it from my perspective. I hear what you're saying, Debo. But we got to stand here today with the Knicks winning a championship and Jalen Brunson being a little dude, little chubby, bruh, big body Brunson giving everybody buckets.

8:14He ain't chubby now. Y 'all are going out of control. Y 'all used to somebody being eight feet tall and 200 pounds.

8:21James Harrison:I mean, for sure. Houston Braun. Houston Braun. Houston KD. Houston seeing Kobe. Like, this 6 '6", 6 '7", that can got dribble, got handles, I'm going to be able to shoot over you no matter what. There's nothing you can do because I'm nice and I'm tall and I'm athletic and I can jump. And I'll dunk on you. So when you have a dude like with Steph Curry, like Isaiah Thomas, the dudes that are below the rim, that are the number one option for a team to go win a championship, I'm just here for it because I didn't see. If Jalen Brunson did that, he's the max. He's the player on that team, and he took$114 million less so they could get OG, so they could have Carl Anthony Towns, so they could have heart in the guys around them.

9:01James Harrison:But for me to look at him, to go win a championship, beat the Spurs, 4-1, gentleman sweep, I just got to stand there and be like this. Knicks, Jalen Brunson, oh my God, you did that. You know what I'm saying? Like, you a little dude, and I'm watching you give everybody buckets. In game five, your team scores 48 points and you score 45. You know what I'm saying? Like, it wasn't just, they were getting stops and they just kept passing it back to Brunson. Like, look, y 'all get defensive stops. I'm going to give Wimby a bucket. I don't care who it is. Look, body, body. He gave Wimby body, body, big body layup.

9:37James Harrison:I'm like, oh my gosh, Kessel, come out here. Whoever wants something, you can't get it. And he gave it 45. I was like, stand up, JB. So they got to put so much respect on his name. Joe, I understand what you're saying. I'm going to put respect on his name. And at the same point in time, they dropped down to letting them lead by 14, letting them lead by 12, letting them lead by 16, letting them lead by 29, letting them lead by 14. They was missing. They had to lead in every one of these games. They was missing, but they got to fight. The talent was there to be able to get the lead. They never out.

10:10Not hold on to it. So what's the problem with holding on to it? It's either mindset or coaches. It's a game of runs. It's a combination of both, probably. Combination of both. I guarantee you this is the first time in NBA history that you have had a team that has had double-digit leads in every game and still lost the series 4-1.

10:26James Harrison:Yes. Ain't no way in hell. That's called a colossal collapse. Yes, okay, for sure. Two things can be right at once. I could have coached that. But them dudes were still getting stopped. I could have coached that, Joe. I say, well, look. Hey, y 'all go out there and play, man. And then when I feel like, yeah, y 'all doing good, I'm going to let y 'all go and Eurostep this, do this, do all this bull crap and all this other stuff. And now you wonder why you're down because you're taking poor shot selections. You're going out here and you're not doing the correct things that you need to do. The coach is just sitting back watching it like, hey, man, yeah, I've been fired 125 times and da-da-da.

11:00I'm with you. Yo, do your job and coach and manage.

11:03James Harrison:Debo, you are correct. The Spurs coaching, they should have stopped the bleeding a lot more time. Talking about that crazy stuff. We dominated them for the most part. No. Domination is start to finish. You didn't finish. You didn't dominate. The Spurs coach said dominate? No. Wimby. Oh, they did not. No, they did not. He said they dominated for the most part. They dominated them for most of the series. You didn't. That's that Atlantic shit. Oh, we analytically, we won. We did this. We did that. No, you didn't dominate. They stopped using words, dude, that don't matter. Like that domination, that's a false word.

11:44That's a false word. You may have controlled parts of the game. You played better than them in parts of the game, but you didn't dominate. Dominance is a start to finish.

11:56James Harrison:I'm going to go with this. If you're going to place blame on the Spurs, like they said, I'm going to say the coaching with the timeouts, the coaching with playing De 'Aaron Fox more instead of Dylan Harper, And then the playing wise, De 'Aaron Fox, if you're in, you are making for your max player. You got to play better if the coach is giving you these opportunities. So I think De 'Aaron Fox needs to play better for sure. But if your coach call timeouts when you are stopped the bleeding and Dylan Harper is a dog right now. I know that De 'Aaron Fox is your max player, but you got to go with the high hand.

12:31James Harrison:So coaching with me is right when you call timeouts. And if you see you have another young stud that's out here sniping. Flip it. Put him in the game. Put him out. Get him in. Get him out there. You got guys making horrible turnovers at the wrong – like, you can't do that, dude. How do you get into the position of, like, is it – dude, pressure? I don't know, dude. Like, only person that can call the timeout when the run is going on is the coach. Call the timeout, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I'm telling you, the Spurs, when they were getting down all this time, it's because they were missing shots.

13:07James Harrison:and they know as long as you keep playing defense, as long as you keep fighting through. You're not, you're not, you're not. I'm hearing you. You're about 29. Yeah, 29. Man, if we don't do nothing else but shoot. Yeah, we put a knee on it. We just kneel it. Motherfucking one or two. We win that game. I could have did that. Me and you, Joe, we could have did that. Just make sure we don't hold on to the ball and turn it over and just shoot. When they lost that 29-point lead, then game but game five just going into game five jalen brunson was on some he was on the mission they had scored 47 the rest of the team all other eight players scored 48 points he scored 45 they was playing defense i was literally watching them every time they got stops nobody was looking at the basket they just kept giving him the ball back because he was going to give anybody who guarded him a bucket it didn't matter like they was going to play d they knew we're going to eventually get stops, but they was like, man, get a ball to Jalen.

14:04James Harrison:He's going to get us through. He's going to take us there. So it looked like when the Spurs started coming back. So you're telling me to just get a ball to Jalen? Yes. They for game plot. So the coach ain't like, hey, let's put somebody else on here. Let's double do something. I mean, something. They should have blitzed him. They definitely should have blitzed him. You damn right. They should have threw two, but he was giving anybody. If I know he's crushing me, hey, listen, Joe, we know going into a game as the Steelers and we're playing against the Ravens, we cannot let Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson run the ball, period.

14:35Make Lamar beat us passing. That's how we have success against him. Anytime they're able to run the ball on us, they smack us.

14:45Coach, stop letting the dude that you know can beat you beat you and make them force somebody else to do it.

14:52James Harrison:Yes. It's too – both – Jalen was balling. Coach wasn't doubling him. He's going to keep balling you. Stop the bleeding. Send two. Get it out of his hands. Do something. Do something. You sitting back hoping you're going to be able to hold on to a lead that you ain't been able to hold on to. Y 'all got lucky you held on to the one in game three. If dude missed that three, what's his name? Oh, boy, missed that three. You probably in trouble again. You probably get swept. You ain't lying. New York, though, they got it. Look, so we got the player talk out of the way. You're right. New York, congratulations.

15:33James Harrison:I'm happy for Jalen Brunson. The city, they said they was going to need the marshals. They said they was going to need the Coast Guard. People got acted crazy. That's the part I knew. I'm like, Debo, don't want to turn a good thing into a bad thing. Bro, they turn, they turn. I tell you, man, they ain't know how to act, man. I'm happy for it, man. 53 years, it's a long time. Yeah, yeah, it's good. It's good that the team themselves got it. Yes. Jalen Brunson. Man, they can't handle it. OG. OG with the tip. The tip. Are you kidding me? Oh, that's crazy. But the tip man from OG. Wow. So what's the move?

16:14What's the move for the Spurs, though? What's the move for the Spurs? What do you think Spurs going to do? Man, they're young. I understand they're young, bro. I understand it. So are you going to continue to use the young? Hi, it's Karen in Georgia from My Favorite Murder. 20:17James Harrison:This is Malcolm Glabal from Smart Talks with IBM. Today we're diving into a fascinating conversation with Stefano Pallard, head of fan development for Scuderia Ferrari HP. Your pronunciation is strongly American. It's more Scuderia Ferrari. I'm still working on rolling my R's. But what I was able to learn from Stefano was the importance of engaging the Tifosi, the Ferrari superfans in the digital age. Ferrari fans and superfans want to be part of something, want to belong to something. So they want to be part of a community, and ultimately they want to be part of a winning team. You've got Ferrari, which has a long history, design history.

21:00And now you're interacting in a kind of digital space. I'm curious how you balance those two traditions.

21:08James Harrison:When it comes to fan engagement, it's really digital technology and digital channels are being able to create a deeper connection with our fans. To learn more about how Ferrari and IBM are using technology to build deeper connections with fans, visit ibm.com slash Ferrari. Sorry.

21:55some type of, instill some type of leadership into these guys that were like, hey man, when you got them up, when you up by 12, it ain't hold on. Put your foot on they throat.

22:04James Harrison:We got to beat them by 30. Choke them out. Beat them to death. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. It's not done. Don't go out there and get out of your game plan of what you was doing and start acting like, no, keep doing what y 'all was doing. Do what you did that got you to lead and keep playing. Like, I don't understand, bro. I think it's going to be good. Right now, I think they to the point to where they get a double-digit lead, and the second half come, they just like, damn, we're going to be able to hold on to it. That's mindset. Yeah. They got to go for the dagger. I think, like I said, it's going to be like another year.

22:39James Harrison:Castle, Dylan Harper, developing no one more. He's going to be more of a main character role on the team. Wimby, getting a little bit of weight on him. You know what I'm saying? A little bit, man. Going another year. Get right. Hit the weight room right now, man. Hit the weight room right now. A pound a week for 30 weeks. Mm-hmm. Get some weights. Keep your flexibility. Keep your mobile. I'm not telling you you got to turn into the most swolest man. No. Just getting a little bit of, you know what I'm saying, a little definition. Bruh, get around that 60. You 7 '4". Get around that 60, bruh. A little bit.

23:15James Harrison:A little bit. So nobody can just, just don't have the victim weight guys down there getting at your lower body being able to push you over the block. you can't let them push you off the block. Yeah, no, you can't have that. Or if you're down there, just shoot right over him. We got to get a little post game, just a little bit better post game. Because he's good with the rolling, but his back... Bro, what does that go matter when you got five double-digit leads lost, only one that you were able to hold him? Because that's going to slow the game down. When you get the ball down in the post, he ain't got to shoot it all the time, but get a touch down in the block.

23:52James Harrison:People going to come down. You can kick it out. You know what I'm saying? So who tells them, hey, this is what we going to do. We got by 29. Hey, get down there and make sure you get a good shot selection. No, no, no, no. He don't have to do that. And hold on to the rock. Don't just shoot it. No, no, no, no, no. He could be doing that from the beginning. Like his whole flow of the game is outside in more. You know what I'm saying? Just starting from the beginning. But they getting up or starting them down in the block more, being able to start down low, lowering the shot clock, burning out some time.

24:20I need my towel, man. I'm sweating. I just came from within. Okay.

24:25James Harrison:Getting that work. Getting that work. Always got to get that work, man. Man, I just, I can't even. How was your weekend, Debo? My weekend was all right. You know? I mean, it was good. I'm here. That's a good thing. That's good. You know, it would have been a lot better if they could have figured out a way to, you know, at least pull a game out right there. Like, come on, man. Remember, I said, in my mind, I thought the Spurs, when we said, you was like, Joe, I don't care who you, what you feel, or whatever. Like, what do you think is going to win? I say, honestly, I think the Spurs are a better team, and I think they're going to win in seven.

25:04James Harrison:But I like the Knicks, and I think that they got a good chance to win. You said, you had the Spurs in five. Five. I had him in five. So that's why I'm telling you. Now, and that's strictly because of coaching. It's the same teams. Nobody was hurt. destroyed it. That's the only, okay. Y 'all fired the coach that just won, didn't y 'all? Mike Brown over there. Didn't the guy fire him? Yeah, we did. Yeah, uh-huh. So, basically, if it wasn't for the coach and that's the only reason why the Knicks won. No, they had to have the players too, man. Believe me, they had to have the players. But my point is this.

25:41You got to be able to come back. True statement. So you have to have players. But you were at a deficit, which means the players that put you at the deficit should have been able to hold on to it if they were allowed and stopped and sped up and slowed down and coached.

25:57James Harrison:I hear what you're saying, but basketball is all in runs and ebbs and flows and being able to stop the bleeding and go through it. Timeouts, you got 50 of them, man. Just call one, put something together, get your team back on, draw up a play. hey go out there and then get get a defensive something set up to where y 'all can stop somebody double up on him maybe get a turnover like change the tide change the momentum do something i hear what you're saying i just think at the end of the day now it looks like the better you i think the better team won the knicks were a better team than the spurs even though you're saying they ended up getting down and coming back.

26:39James Harrison:The way that it worked, like... Down and back up. That's wild. What'd you say? I said going down that far and then coming back up. Yeah. It's... Shit happens in the game. It's the NBA. Like, there's been... And now with the three-point ball, it's... Leads get changed so much more. History was made here, Joe. What? History was made here. Yes, it was. This is a historic collapse. It was. It was. No team in the NBA has done this. been up double digits in every game they played and and got beat four to one no team and nba history has ever done that that means that the knicks are statistically one of the best teams in history too just that means the knicks have done something historic and that means the the spurs have done something historic too and collapsed okay both see but two things can be Two things can be right, Evo.

27:32James Harrison:You just trying to say how bad that the Spurs did, and I agree with you, and I'm still saying at the same time the Knicks were balling because they had to still make the stops and still make the runs and still make the plays to come back. Like the other team, Wimby, Castle, all them dudes were still on the squad. They were still there, stopping them. Hart, like game five, Castle didn't score his first bucket until the fourth quarter. Hart was just playing great defense, just sliding them. Like, that's just good on good, but got your number that day. That's just like nothing against Castle. Castle going to be a star.

28:07James Harrison:He's a baller. But Hart strapped you for this day when it was time to go get the ship. Listen, man, I'm going to give New York Day credit, but I'm also giving the Spurs the same amount of credit for the collapse. Okay. That's like when Josh Allen did that comeback on Baltimore. As much credit as you gave, Allen, you gave the Ravens for the collapse, too. Yes. Yes. It takes two to have an epic collapse. You're not getting first downs. You're not converting. So, you know what I'm saying? Somebody's doing something wrong. Facts. A lot of something wrong. A lot of something. Check out this, what was it, UFC 250 over there at the White House?

28:55James Harrison:Yeah, man. That boy Justin Gaethje, he upset, what is it, Ilio Toporo? Mm-hmm. He knocked that man out, man. The man couldn't even come out, dude. He is now the new undisputed lightweight champion. After holding the interim lightweight title on two occasions, Gaethje finally claimed his first UFC undisputed championship, dude. Bruh. Yo. Did you see the fight? Hell yeah. Okay. Did you see it? Yes, I did. Right. I ain't going to lie to you, man. I ain't think he was going to win, but I damn sure ain't think he was going to win like that, man. He beat that man into submission. Hey, man, listen, I'm trying to tell you, man.

29:41That boy must have thought that he could use his face as something to stop them punches from getting through. He was just taking them all. And this is after, who did, what was it? Toporeo, he whooped Alavira, Charles Alavira, you know what I'm talking about. Knocked him out, what, in the first round or something like that? Yeah. Man. And before that, it was Max Holloway. I think he put him down, too. Like, this young dude was doing it. 17-0. And then he was, what, 28, 29, something like that? What's Gaethje, like 34, 35, something like that?

30:25James Harrison:Yes, D-Bo. Boy, I tell you this. When I'm out there, when I'm watching this UFC, the level of respect that I have for these combat sports, like, they in there, man on man, whooping, like kicking. And it's all no-holds-barred. You can get choked out. You can get kneed. You can get really— You talking about getting put to sleep, D-Bo, and I was watching the earlier fights. You get put to sleep, and you still getting hit while you're asleep until the referee stops them. I'm like, that whole, like, I'm like, oh, whoa, whoa, get him, get him. When is he gone? I'm like, oh, my goodness. It gets real, real violent on that UFC mat.

31:03James Harrison:So I'm just watching. When I'm watching these jumps, the combat is no joke, and I just got respect for them dudes out there not playing any games. Yo. That's what plays. I'm not stepping in the octagon. No knees, no feet, no bows. Legal bows for professional throwing bows? Man, come on, D-Bo. Oh, they doing all that, bro. They doing all that. Like, when Teporo hit that, man, when he hit him with that body shot and folded him down to the ground. Brother, that's what I'm saying. Folded. He was like, ah! You see them ribs, they're like this. You can see the wind and the breath coming out of him. Yeah.

31:42James Harrison:No joke. I'm not, that's, yeah, I was, I watched the UFC. I was a big, I loved Conor McGregor when he was out there, big time, because I like the celebratory. I'm more of the one-hitter quitters. I'm not the ones I don't like when they get on the ground and get their heads all on each other and then just bang. I'm like, God, come on, get up. Get up real quick. Get up real quick. I need to see y 'all here. When you get on the ground and all that, they just get to rolling around. That's UFC. I'm just saying my personal preference. I would like to see them up. You know what I'm saying? I'm more here than when they get on the ground.

32:16James Harrison:I'm like, okay, now it's about to be somebody about to be here. to get somebody on the ground, they about to get something choked out, put to sleep, choke to sleep, put a mission hold, break something, if you don't get broke, if you don't give up before then or whatever it may be. It's just brutal. It's just brutal. You see his face? Debo, yes. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Sometimes, I just, that's why I'm more of a, I like the fights to end quicker. Because when they out there looking crazy, that, I'm like, oh my God, like, like brother, brother, brother, you're going to have to live. Your old lady, your kid's going to have to see after this fight, you're going to go somewhere tomorrow.

32:52James Harrison:And somebody's going to say, wow, you look nuts. He cannot. It's no way he can see right now. No, that's what I'm saying. He's underneath the cold tub. He can't see, man. Somebody guiding him around by his hand. Yeah. What's them joints that they were sleeping? The hyperbaric chambers? He got to sleep in the barrack and roll from the barrack to the cold tub. Bro, you can't breathe with your face under the water. He got to just lay with ice on his face. Brother, he's going to be in there. I'm talking about he's going to have a straw out of the water. I don't even know how you breathe. He's going to have a scuba joint.

33:23James Harrison:I don't know. He's going to have to figure it out because he's lumped up like Martin. No, he passed that, bro. And he was leaking. He was leaking like a broke faucet. Man. See, that's what I'm saying. Debo, listen, this is me just personally. When I'm watching, the combat is all good. But you telling me when these people be looking like, when they get to the point of unrecognizable face and they still out there, I'm like, oh, my goodness. Like, it's just, it's brutal. I'm like, dang, like, somebody stop throwing the towel. The man has had enough. The man has had enough. Take your ball and go home.

34:04Bruh, that's what his trainers had to do. Like, hey, man. Yeah, that's where he stayed. He stayed on that seat. He done took enough of a beat, man.

34:13James Harrison:Man, brother, that's why you got to have people in your corner that love you. Because otherwise, you would really be out there getting your head, drummer boy, and not really know. Because they got that willpower. No, no, no, no. I'm not going out like that. Brother, you might not come back. So you better just go out real quick. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, see, you're beating like that over time. That's the stuff where you get the swelling and all that on the brain and all that. You don't even know what to do. You're bopping at your head all day. Come on. Yeah. Yeah, I be thinking about because we're hitting and all that, but they ain't got no helmet on.

34:45You getting drummer boy. Man, Alex Pereira, he got TKO. They stopped the fight on that one. Dude, you just 205 to 260 to a 260 weight class, man, and you fighting against, what is it, Ghan? Like, it don't. at the end of that first round when Alex caught him clean and he ate that shit I said when he ate that breath he caught him clean, he ate it

35:19James Harrison:when he take your best shot that's deflating I said nah man and Alex wasn't looking like his normal like you know cut up self because he was trying to gain all that weight man you're going from that you know that 205 And then you got Sid. He could have been cutting weight, you know. He was probably cutting to get down or possibly, like, so he didn't have to worry about no weight. And Alex just sitting up there eating and eating and trying to get up there, you know. Everybody wanted to make history doing the weight class. I think it was 185. Then it was light heavyweight. Light heavyweight? Or was it welterweight?

35:54I don't know. It was 185, 205. And then heavyweight is all the way up to 260. Like, I think that was too fast to jump.

36:02James Harrison:Like, you doing this thing at 205? I'd have never left 205. They always wanted to get as many titles and just collecting them and seeing to trying to switch them weight classes. There's weight classes for a reason. Sometimes you just got to stay where you at for a second and just be good where you at. Going around there just trying to eat and get up to where they at, and he just chilling, like walking around at a certain weight and eating and having to force yourself to get to a certain weight is a little different. Yeah, and you lose a lot of that power. we got to realize the power that come.

36:32You're talking about, you know, you used to fighting a 205 with the power. Like, you got a guy that's used to fighting that, you know, up to 260. Like, the power exchange on that. Now he's trying to lift them weights, you know, get the power to go ahead and hit it. And, man, that 205 don't hit the same as that 245, that 250. Wow. That's a different monster right there. Like, I ain't, yeah. I ain't, I thought it would have lasted longer than two. Hi, it's Karen in Georgia from My Favorite Murder. We cruised around L.A. in the Hyundai Ioniq 5. 40:26James Harrison:This is Malcolm Glabal from Smart Talks with IBM. Today, we're diving into a fascinating conversation with Stefano Pallard, head of fan development for Scuderia Ferrari HP. So they want to be part of a community and ultimately they want to be part of a winning team. You've got Ferrari which has a long design history and now you're interacting in a kind of digital space.

41:13I'm curious how you balance those two traditions. When it comes to fan engagement it's really digital technology and digital channels are being able to create a deeper connection with our fans. To learn more about how Ferrari and IBM are using technology to build deeper connections with fans, visit ibm.com slash Ferrari. Browns, though, I ain't gonna lie to that, but yeah, that shows you the big difference. Like, it's a brutal game, baby, when you're up there fighting and chasing, you're chasing, and you know, you chasing history. Mm-hmm. Trying to go into three different weight classes and you can't.

41:53James Harrison:It ain't this class. Like you said, it's classes for a reason. Man. Joe. Hey, you know what I got to tell you, Debo? What? I got to tell you something. Because it's been about the basketball thing and you know now me being retired, you know, freshly and not too freshly now. I've been now, I got to think about it. I've been out of the league. This is going to be probably my fourth season. and not playing. So when I'm going to be like, yeah, it just feels fresh, but I don't know if it's that fresh. Third or fourth. So I signed up, you know what I'm saying, for basketball league, for men's league.

42:30James Harrison:Oh, my God, bro. Men's basketball league, right? And we play on Sunday nights, right? Me, I signed up, me and my team, me and my family, everybody got to be over 35. I got me, I got my brother, Josh. I got my best friend, Blue. I got my man Jazz. We played Little League together. And I got my linebacker from my Little League team, Rodney Pittman. We got three other players. But since this is the first game, people out of town. You know what I'm saying? So I only had five. You know? So first game was yesterday, Sunday, 8.30. You know what I'm saying? The middle school. You know what I'm saying?

43:05James Harrison:Cool jump. So me and my boys. At night? At night. 8.30 at night. Sunday nights. You know what I'm saying? Grown man league. Cool. Sunday nights. You know what I'm saying? Games at 7.30 and 8.30. Damn. Game at 7.30. Game at 8.30. So our game happened to be at 8.30. I don't know who's going to go. I'm expecting it's going to be older dudes that 35 and older. So I made sure I got the oldest league. It's a 21 and older league. It's a 30 and over league. And it's a 35 and older league. I'm like, I'm trying to go play with the 35 and ups. No one, no young bulls in the joint. I'm trying to be right around.

43:36James Harrison:I'm trying to be the youngest player, you know what I'm saying, out there. I have old heads out there. And then the youngest player would be right around my age. You know what I'm saying? Cool. That's what I'm expecting. That's what I'm expecting. That's what I'm hoping. I'm telling my wife. I'm like, yeah, babe. You know what I'm saying? Sign up for the league. You know what I'm saying? I don't want you to come to the first game. I got to go, you know what I'm saying? I got to go peep the scene. Let me go see what's going on. I don't need you coming out there yet. You know what I'm saying? I don't need you coming out there yet.

44:00James Harrison:You know, we don't have all our players. It's just us five. You know, I just want to go out there and see what's up. Okay. My boys are hyped. They come over to the house early, Debo. We're prepping.

44:15James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? Nobody, we not really too much like running in basketball shape, but we hoop or so we think. Yeah, yeah. All right. So we pull up, Deebo. We try to get there because the game starts at 730. So it's a game going on before us of the team that we're going to play next Sunday. Right? So we're like, all right, let's get there like 15 minutes early so we can at least see the competition. All right, boom. We walk in. The two teams are playing. All right. They're looking like a little older. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, okay, boom. It's looking smooth. Like, okay, we can play with them.

44:45James Harrison:They still look like they could ball. They running picks and running up and down. They play zone defense. They look like they know what they're doing. And I see the team that we're about to play against on the sideline. They just sitting there. You know what I'm saying? They're already there. They're ready. They stretching. And I see one dude, he about 6 '6". You know what I'm saying? Dreads. You know what I'm saying? Got his bag. I see another dude. He about 6 '3". He looked like he hooped. The other dude, he's not even tall. He's like 5 '10". But he's just standing there, you know what I'm saying, with his ball.

45:11James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? Stretching. So I'm like this. We may be in trouble. We may be in trouble. But my boy Pitt is our big body. So I'm like, we got a tall, we got a 6 '4 dude. We got my man Pitt for the big body. You know what I'm saying? 6 '3 buddy. Like, I ain't tall, but like, I hoop. I could like, I see myself matching him. I'm looking at the rest of my team. Okay. All right. You're up there sizing everybody else. I'm sizing them up so bad, Debo. And guess what? They doing the same thing to me. I can see them. They looking at us and we walk in the joint. Victim weight. And regular jerseys.

45:41James Harrison:They got reversible jerseys. F-X-A sports. The league, I'm like this, man, nah, dog. When we come, we rocking NBA jerseys. Everybody on our team, I'm rocking the Darius Garland jersey with the shorts. We got official game jerseys and NBA shorts. My boy, my brother Josh, Manu Ginobili, official Spurs jersey shorts. My other, man, we got Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns, all black shorts. So we looking sweet. Debo, we play the game. What happened, Joe? First half score, 61 to 24. We're damned it down by 40. Oh, my God. Bruh, y 'all could come back. They were the Knicks. They were the Knicks. The Knicks flew in, and that's who we played in the 35 and up league.

46:29James Harrison:That's what happened. Debo, they went. Why didn't y 'all come back? We got mercy ruled, Debo. In the third quarter, when the horn went off at halftime, we was ready to shake hands. I thought the game was over. I was hoping. And me and my team was hoping the game was over. We was like, God. And it was like this, halftime. We was like, oh, my God, there's another half? Oh, my God. Halftime. They was playing four quarters. They was playing four quarters, Debo. We went back out third quarter. We got down by 45, man. It was 76 to 31. And the referees blew the whistle with three minutes left in the third quarter because it's 45 mercy.

47:09James Harrison:And I was like, all right. 45 Mercy rule. 45 Mercy. Y 'all thought y 'all was going to like. Man, good game, guys. Y 'all thought y 'all was going to some old, like, like, like, like, like the football you see, the 37U and shit. D-Bug. Y 'all thought y 'all was going to some. Oh, I thought. Cats should never have no right going to. No. Oh, my God. I was humble. I got belt to ass so bad yesterday at a middle school gym at the 35 and older league. And my. But this is the thing. This is the thing. I had nine. Oh, my God. I had nine points. But when I went to the rack one time, Debo, I went to the bucket.

47:45James Harrison:Ooh, got explosive. Blew by. I felt my groin. Ah. So now I know I'm, now we only got five players. So I'm weak. Second quarter, I'm low key. I'm gimpy. I'm gimpy. So they kind of like, now I'm gimpy. My big man Pitt, two minutes in the first quarter, he has a calf sleeve on. So my man Pitt's like this. not already. His calves start tightening up a little bit. So we only got five players though. Y 'all brought y 'all old ass out there thinking y 'all gonna be the hottest thing smoking. Them boys been playing since 20U, 25U, 30U. Y 'all coming out there thinking y 'all gonna jump into 35U. Them boys got 15 years experience on y 'all.

48:29James Harrison:They've been playing together since 10U. They've been playing together since 10U. They was running up and down, had plays. They were setting picks. One buddy, I promise you, he hit 10 three-pointers. He was 10 for 12. And he was like, oh, yeah, that's good. I'm like this, oh, my God, great shot. We started giving them, like, oh, my, like, they was being positive. You know what I'm saying? It was crazy. I blocked. I pitted you, man. That's pity. Look, I beat a shot, too. Oh, good shot, little man. Big buddy, one time, Debo, he down there. Good shot, little man. Debo, Debo, he down there. He tried to shoot.

49:02James Harrison:I said, boom, give me that shit. and he rebounded. After I blocked it, he rebounded my block and then put it back up and scored. I was like, damn. Soon he blocked. Soon he shot. Give me that shit. He like this, man. Ugh, finish. I'm like this. Oh, so. But the good thing is we played the best team in the league because the other two teams. Joe, you got mercy room. The other two teams. Who cares? You're not going to win. Listen, listen, listen, listen. You won't win a game. That's the benchmark. The team, we started off like this. I still have three more players that are coming to the team that are really, really good.

49:42James Harrison:What are they going to do? Except for being able to let you sit your old pulled ass growing down in your homeboy's calf. That's it. If we could have had subs as soon as we got tired, if we started exulting ourselves too much, then we could have got one. If we didn't have nowhere to get us, then we got to stay out there the whole game. So my man was over-exalted. Is this a basketball thing where cats say delusional shit? Like we dominated somebody, we were better team than them. Is that basketball shit that you can be delusional like that, Joe? Our shots weren't going in. Our shots weren't going in.

50:21The fuck you mean? You can't shoot. You ain't a good shooter. I can't shoot.

50:27James Harrison:My field goal percentage was just down. My shot wasn't going in here. What the fuck that means? That means I can't shoot. Everybody, Deebo, I was getting to my spot. That's the thing. Me and all of my dogs, we was getting to our spot. We just wasn't hitting it the way it needed to go. It was a little short sometimes, sometimes a little long. But like, we were getting to where we needed to get. You can't shoot. We were getting to where we needed to get. That's the thing. He wasn't, they weren't stopping us from getting to where we needed to go. That's what I'm saying. Joe, they can't stop you. It's called like, Joe.

50:57James Harrison:I was getting to my, and then I got to the bucket, because once I lost my explosiveness, that's when I could only result to my tray ball. Joe, you had nine points. What did you have going? I had, I had, I was two. You want to know my stat line? I was two for 10 for tray balls. I was two, and I was two for 10 for tray balls, one for six from the field. And then I was one. Why are you telling people this? And I was one for two from the line. I feel embarrassed for you. I just had a bad shooting day. I'm telling you, I was good by spots. I don't even know who you is. I felt like Stephen Castle. I felt like Stephen Castle.

51:33James Harrison:I felt like Stephen Castle. Only reason why I feel like Stephen Castle is because I know that I got it in. Hey, man, who's the other dudes on your team, man? Put them out there, too. Y 'all was trash. Listen, Josh Hart doesn't hold Stephen Castle. Josh Hart wasn't on your team. Listen, Josh Hart does not hold Stephen Castle to four points. You know what I'm saying? Eight points every game. It's just he had an off-shooting night. Oh, you said you had a bad game. I had an off-shooting night. That's what I'm trying to tell you. I was getting to my spot. You sure wasn't them hands in your face on them shots.

52:01James Harrison:No, no, no, no, no. They was great contests. They had really good contests. But I was elevated. I was there. But I just, you know what I'm saying, a little off, a lot of in and outs. Who y 'all coach, Joe? Huh? Who y 'all coach? Bro. All of y 'all? Yeah, bro. It's a team unit. I'm the captain. I'm the captain. Crash. That's what happened. the coaching and the playing, the false belief in the players that you have from the coach and the players in themselves. Everything. Listen, that's the thing. Only reason why I'm telling you this, Debo, I could have not told you this at all. The only reason why I'm really wanting to let you know this is because I know that my shooter percentage and my team, we have more players.

52:52James Harrison:Only five of us was able to show up to the first game. We got eight, and our other three players are good. So when we get our whole team together, everybody's going to get it. They make up for 45 points. No, no, no. I'm going to get – I'm supposed to be averaging 25. You know what I'm saying? I'm going to get my – I need my 15 more. My man Jazz, my man Jazz, he had 12. You know what I'm saying? Me and Jazz, 12. My brother Josh, five. Pitt, five. My man Blue, he didn't have no buckets. So that's our points. And next thing you know, Jazz is going to get his 25. I'm going to get my 25. Our new dude.

53:26When that's going to happen? Uncontested? They putting hands in faces. Next Sunday. Next Sunday. You are short. They shortest dude on their team was what?

53:34James Harrison:6 '2", 6 '3"? The shortest dude on the team that we just played? Or the team that we playing next week? The team you just played. The team that we just played. The shortest dude. Oh, no. The shortest dude was 5 '8". And y 'all still got beat by 45. That's a damn shame. He was the one that hit 10 threes. His clip was unlimited. You couldn't even block. You couldn't even deem up. I was trying to guard the 6-3, man. I'm guarding the 6-3, man. You don't hit 10 points, Joe. Do your job. You ain't even coaching yourself. I'm guarding the 6-3, buddy. They got 6-6, 6-3. I'm guarding the 6-3. 6-3 only had about probably 10.

54:14I'm coming out to coach.

54:16James Harrison:You know what? I'm going to get some highlights. I'm going to get some highlights. I'm wearing a suit, too. You edited it real nice. You're old school. I'm wearing a suit on the sideline. D-Bone. Yeah, I ain't going to lie, because I came home, and my wife was expecting a completely different story. I said, baby, I'm so happy you didn't come. She's like, why are you limping? I said, my - Yeah. Look at you. I'm hurt. I'm hurt. Already. I'm hurt. Already, ready. Yeah. You got to be more careful, son. I got to. What is you doing? Don't, don't try. I got to get my – me and the team, we got to get our cardio up.

54:54James Harrison:That's for sure. And, Debo, that's why – I know it's a long way to travel. Would you play in the league, man? No. I ain't playing – dude. Would you coach? I'd coach the hell out of it. I don't know. You might just – And you know what I'm going to do? Too much shit to us. I'm not going to be the person or the coach that's going to sit there and be like, hey, you know, we didn't do what we needed to do as a unit. No, hell no. You going to call – These motherfuckers did not do what I coached them to do. I'm coaching it. They just ain't getting it done. I'm not going to sit here and take blame for these players that ain't out there executing.

55:32James Harrison:How you going to stop that? What would you have done when we was out there getting our ass beat? What would you do to stop the league? I'd have left and made like I wasn't even part of that shit. See? Hell, that's what I do. You ain't no coach for me. You ain't going to be my coach, bro. Hell no. Man, I just threw my hands up on the side like that. Oh my gosh, Deebo. I'd have been like, what y 'all doing? I'd have been loud and boisterous with it too. I'm telling you this right now, bro. I really can't tell you and explain to you how I really, really thought it was going to be the complete opposite situation I was walking into.

56:09James Harrison:I was expecting just older dudes out there and I'm like really having a good time. Older dudes that ain't been playing. That ain't been playing. You thought they was sitting on the side. No. I thought they was chilling, bro. Them dudes was not chilling at all. Hi, it's Karen in Georgia from My Favorite Murder.
