In short

Steelers preseason QB evaluation after a 17-0 Jets shutout; Browns preseason QB debate centered on Deshaun Watson being booed and claiming Browns fans are disrespectful.

Guests/backgrounds

Hosts James “DeBo” Harrison and Joe Hayden discuss from a Steelers and Browns fan perspective; no external guests are identified in the transcript.

Key claims

  • Steelers: Mike McCarthy said Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph wouldn’t play vs the Jets; Will Howard starts first, Drew Aller second. McCarthy frames it as giving reps to young QBs.
  • Steelers: Howard’s two interceptions and poor execution (plus questionable pass protection) are blamed on details across the offense, not solely the QB. Howard takes full responsibility; Aller is also viewed as needing growth.
  • Browns: Deshaun Watson says booing is personal/disrespectful; hosts argue booing an injured player is wrong, but booing poor performance is understandable given the $230M guaranteed contract and missed games.

Notable examples

  • Steelers vs Jets: Howard 10/15 for 74 yards, 2 INT; Aller 11/23 for 110 yards, 3 sacks.
  • Browns: practice ended early due to defensive physicality; Watson booing discussion tied to his Achilles injury and other injuries.

4:58James Harrison:How you doing today, Joe?

5:03James Harrison:Let me tell you something, Debo. Debo, it's my time real quick.

5:13Welcome back Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison, and I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Peace. Make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. How you doing today, Joe?

5:31James Harrison:I'm doing straight, bro. I'm doing all right, Debo. You know, I'm doing good. I'm happy I'm home. You know what I'm saying? Back in Stu. Another day, you know what I'm saying, to talk ball with my dog, you know? So, yeah, man, we got a little bit of catching up to do with the Steelers, with the Browns, you know, do a little back to the future, then bring it back to the future of the future. You know, just kind of just kind of just kind of just kind of roll with it from there. You know what I'm saying? But let's go ahead and just start with the Steelers, man. And so before the Jets game, Mike McCarthy, he had said that he announced Mason Rudolph and Aaron Rodgers would not play against New York.

6:15And instead, Will Howard would get to start, followed by Drew Aller. So this is what he said. Do you have a plan for QB, Mike? I'm sorry? Do you have a plan for QB for the Jets game quarterbacks? Yeah, we're going to play the two young guys for the Jets game. They're our focus. Will Howard will go first. Are you guys bringing back the Pukop middle receivers? Do you guys expect some of the day? I mean, we've got a couple guys that are still coming back, you know, on the medical park. We've got 48 hours. I'll get all that stuff up. Perk will get that to you here in the next 48 hours. I'm sure you never run it.

6:52I'll try to get some work on the Perk.

6:54James Harrison:What's the thought process behind just getting Will and Andrew those meaningful rounds? I think you understand they're young. Will didn't get to play last year. Drew's a first-year player. I have two veterans I feel really good about Obviously with Aaron and Mason Saw what I needed to see from Mason last week Talked highly about Mason Really since the spring So I really want to max out the Opportunities with both Will Will and Jordan

7:23Joe I'm going to tell you right now What's up This was kind of Or it was kind of surprising to me Not really Well it kind of was But Mike McCarthy, when he was talking about he had seen all he needed to see from Aaron Rodgers, I understood that. But Mason Rudolph, I kind of didn't understand it. But looking back at it right now, I'm just I think I'm just surprised that he actually was considering Mason. But as I go and I look back at his film, I go through the practice, I look at all the stuff. Mason, Mason doing this thing. and like I think it was a couple weeks ago when he was you know like he said he had talked about Mason you know he had glowing it like he was like uh he said I can tell you where did it go there it is he said I can tell I can't tell you how pleased I am with him the experience that he's gained I think is incredible value to us but the footwork is different throws are better than I knew then i knew just like in a quarterback just like any quarterback in the room you really don't know until you stand next to them you're out there on the field really how each guy throws the ball so that right there just led me to believe that our one or two quarterbacks is going to be of course errant and then to my surprise looks like that race is going to be uh yeah it looks like It looked like it's going to be Mason.

8:51So I'm like, I got to look and see what's going on. So, like, what was he missing? And I go back and I'm like, it got to be Mike McCarthy. It got to be Mike McCarthy, the whole new – it's a whole new coaching staff. So, like, that's the only thing that I'm saying I'm thinking is missing is you got you a new coach. You got you a new coordinator. And when you go through the process and you're looking at everything and you look at what coordinators Mason ended up having. And get your hands off my food. And he had, man, he grabbed my food. He had Randy Featner, which was 18 through 20. He had Canada A21 through 23.

9:34And then he had a combination, I guess, after they fired Canada of Eddie Faulkner and Mike Sullivan in 23. They were like interim OCs or something like that. So I'm looking, Fiender's retired. Canada, he hasn't even gotten, he hasn't got a job since. And the other two guys, running back coach for, Faulkner's a running back coach for the Ravens, and Mike Sullivan is the quarterback coach for Las Vegas. So nobody there actually went and was an OC again. So as I'm looking at that, I'm like, okay, so what we're looking at is or was, whatever you want to call it, it's a development issue, a coaching thing.

10:15And when you go and you look at some of the comments that Mason has said himself, he said, I'm really jealous of the structure that they've had in this program and this quarterback grooming system, the way Coach McCarthy has done it, because I feel that they have made a lot of strides. He's talking about the young guys. And he also went on to say, I haven't been around anyone who's been as more who has been more meticulous. he said i remember my first few years here it was kind of like do whatever you want with your footwork that tells me a lot obviously it has to be a coaching thing anyway we get to where that gets me to the point of like when you don't have somebody that can develop you coach you you miss the things like he said footwork do whatever you want i didn't even know that was a thing but i'm also not a quarterback coach so i'm not i don't know and i'll pretend they never been in that i know what to do as a linebacker coach i can tell you everything to do as an outside linebacker and go out there and give it to you effectively so and that was something else i was telling him like yo man if i didn't hire me i need 20 million dollars because i gotta hire every coach i know that knows exactly what they're doing at their job exactly exactly but so it's looking like to me, Mason may just be a person that didn't have the assets.

11:39James Harrison:Coaching and development. Anyway, we get to this. I think what you're saying with this is how I feel. Because I feel like Coach Mike McCarthy, like you said, now it's like I don't care who else was the chef in that kitchen. Now, I have these ingredients. I have Mason Rudolph. I have Aaron Rodgers. I have Will Howard. I have Drew Aller. I'm a quarterback coach. I'm going to work with With these dudes, I like what they have, their talent, their size. I'm going to put them, work on their footwork, work on them reading defenses, work on putting them in my offense to see how they can be able to move.

12:14James Harrison:So with Mason, Mason has the attributes. He's tall. He can throw the ball. Arm strength was never the problem. So if you got Mason Rudolph out there making right decisions, getting the coach up and be like, look, he knows ball. He knows when the blitzes. He knows how to read defenses. He can do certain things so I can see him. Aaron Rodgers is going to be out of there. So we're looking at it right now like we really have three quarterbacks on the team moving forward going next year. After this season, we got Drew, we got Will, we got Mace. So Coach Mike McCarthy is looking at it like, I see these quarterbacks that we have right here.

12:47James Harrison:Aaron Rodgers is going to be gone. I'm developing these dudes. They're going to be following behind him. Mace is not a bad quarterback. Like people, he's like, people aren't giving him credit. If I get him, I think I can make him better than what he was. because he has the arm strength. He knows what he has to do. He's a smart quarterback. So I'm looking at the same way you were, was like, Mike McCarty's like, no, no, no. I can use, these quarterbacks are good enough. Better than if I needed the eighth, I mean, the fifth linebacker on the team or the eighth tackle. Like, we could maybe let them go, sign them back to the practice squad.

13:22James Harrison:I would guarantee I'm going to have these four quarterbacks on the squad. So I just think with him, this is the situation where he's like, I like what I got right here with these quarterbacks. I can develop them. We can try to work with these dudes because A-Rod is going to be gone. But as far as tools, as far as strength, as far as size, as far as throwing the ball, these dudes have what I like. So now let me see if I can coach them up and get them to where they need to be. Yeah, yeah. So now we get to the Jets game. And I guess how we're starting, right? I was starting then Drew came in in the second half.

14:01And it didn't end well for us. We lost 17-0. Howard, he didn't play well. He went, what was it, 10 of 15, 74 yards and two interceptions. Aller, he was 11 of 23, 110 yards. And he was sacked three times. Now, how do you think – those are just the stats. How do you think Will Howard played?

14:30James Harrison:Look, they didn't do too good, Debo. I'm not going to sit here and lie. The first game, they looked good. They looked like on pace. Everybody looked like it was flowing. This one didn't look quite as well. So, I can't sit there and say that them dudes look like they – it didn't look good, brother Debo. That's all I can say with that one. So, I mean, it's preseason, it's early. So, I don't want to – like the first game, when they do well, okay, it's just you got to keep building got to keep doing better that was not a not a step forward i would say for show for will okay i i would say i would say the same for for will howard because he had you know you got two interceptions he was a 10 or 15 um that's not that's not really that's that's not good but what mike mccarthy has said in the media session after the game he said that basically it was a distribution um if if i would say of responsibilities of what what happened so he said the thing he wrote down in his notes a few times during the game was execution details he said the details and the execution wasn't nice he said they had made mistakes on those two plays that they didn't overcome that led to both of those decisions it's plays that are cleaner than others and those two plays weren't clean now you add that along with the oc saying i think overall the execution has got to get better obviously quarterbacks are the ones who throw an interception it goes in their stats but it's on everybody and so debo the got we got to get some more the the line is looking a little questionable because the dudes back there not not having time so you not having time that we got to get that together too it's all where it all works together if the dude don't have no time to throw it don't matter who's standing back there.

16:40James Harrison:You're going to get hit upside the head. Right. So you add that with them saying, basically, neither – they didn't blame anybody solely, the quarterback or the receiver or the line. But for me, in both those instances, it was Wilson. That was the person that they were targeting. And now it got me kind of thinking, like, I'm questioning his capability to be able to get to where he's supposed to. You know, because like he said, Aaron Rodgers said, it's timing. It's about being where you're supposed to be, where you're supposed at that time and making that cut and, you know, all that other stuff.

17:16So, you know, being able to read the defense so that you do the route that should be done against whatever that coverage is. And both of you are on the same page. So that that that that led me to believe that, you know, that could have been a combination of of that. But my guy, old Will Howard, he had this to say after he got through, though. Yeah. 21:42James Harrison:You ain't got the clip? What do we got? We talking about the Will Howard? What he said? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We guess we ain't got the clip. That's great. Okay. Okay. Anyway, he took full responsibility for all of it. And was like, yo, that's on me. I could have did things better. I got to process this fast. I got to do this better. I got to be able to get... I like that, dude. I like that. Even though he didn't have a... It was Drew? I thought it was... Okay, I got you. okay we go through the that's will now yeah obviously not good enough not not being able to go up and put any points on the board uh for me i think it kind of started early i just need to do a better job especially you know early in drives taking what's given i felt like i passed up a couple opportunities early in drives that either set us back uh with an incompletion or a sack that if I just take take what's there even if it's catch tackle we're not in a backed up situation so I felt like that's that's where I could help the offense more and then from there that will help us just playing with more flow and rhythm and not always being constantly backed up so I felt like I I know I could have done a better job with that I had that mixed up that was Drew Howard started Drew Aller came in second he didn't want to have the two interceptions 10 to 15 but But that was the one I was talking about with OC.

23:13Yeah, I switched those up. That's what it was. Anyway, so I'm thinking they were switched. That's not Drew. That's actually what's that? That was Drew right there. No, I'm saying I'm looking at something out here. But how did you think Drew played?

23:36James Harrison:I think the thing is with Drew, at the end of the day, he's like he said, too, he was answering the questions where he know he didn't play to the best of his ability. So, you know, just he knows he got to go back to the drawing board, get back right. Just knowing the honest guy don't lie. So being able to just stand up when you don't have a good game, knowing that you could do better. That's all you got to do. He's a young quarterback. So he still got still got time to grow. He went on. No, right. He, what was it? He went, Howard, I'm thinking of. He went, what was it? 11 of? 23? No, that was Howard.

24:16That was 10 of 15, Will Howard.

24:25Man, listen. There it is. Drew, 11 of 23, 210. I mean, 110. 11 of 23, 210. zero interceptions, zero touchdowns. Sorry, 110. Zero interceptions, zero touchdowns. Back three times. Yes. Now, but, he the one had that fire sideline throw. Yes. That's him, right? Yes. Down the left side over there. Yes.

24:50James Harrison:Looking like that with the A-Rod joint. Hit him on the sideline. Toe tap. Nice, like on the run. Died. He got arm talent. Yeah, I like that. Yeah. Also, I think he had, I think we had an opportunity where it might have been, they said, between five or six balls that were actually catchable that could have been caught. So that could have looked a lot better. That could have been the, what, 15, 17 to 23, 16, 17 to 23 performance with an extra, they said, what, 70 yards that they said would have been possible. So the combination of what they said before about the movement, or sorry about Howard that the interceptions weren't necessarily all of his fault is something that they said you know he was saying like they they need to have an execution of of everything else and all that stuff why do I keep getting them boys because they drew will both young both trying to get it done both behind and we talking about the backup quarterbacks for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

25:53James Harrison:Ain't worried about the starting quarterback. Y 'all know y 'all that A-Rod is starting. All we talking right here is how the backups is doing and how many quarterbacks are going to be here behind Aaron Rodgers. That's crazy. That's good. That's good work for the Steelers. You know who the starter's going to be. Bro, that's his face. This is crazy work. Let's go talk about what the hell we got going on in Cleveland with the starting quarterback. Hey, I was trying to listen. I was trying to give you a little bit of a free Hey, we talked about the backups in Pittsburgh. Y 'all got y 'all started.

26:21Y 'all got y 'all stuck. But, hey, listen, listen. Before we get into that, man, all week, y 'all was, listen, y 'all was doing a little bit of browning all week, man. You know what I'm saying? Like, look at this. Look at this right here, man. Show the tweet. Put that tweet up there, man. Them boys said, they had the end practice. Brown's practice is over. It abruptly ended. It was an abrupt ending that Todd Munkin called. and he addressed the team, he seemed to be frustrated with some of the over-physicality from the defense. He said he was a little frustrated with some of the physicality, brother, from the defense.

27:04He said, uh-uh, we don't. He said, Joe, when don't play physically like that. No, but I'm going to tell you this. Your DN, what is it, Whitney? Whitney? Whittling? Whittling? Whatever it is. He hit the quarterback. Okay, that's not okay. You D-tackle, you D-tackle, Huntington. He hit Junkins five on him. Yeah, he's a running back. Hey, listen, hold up, Joe. Hold up, Joe. Now, after that, though, your D-ing, Jerry Verde, hey, he peeled Junkins' cap back. Yeah, peeled the man's cap. Peeled the soft top off. Hey, bruh, that's why he had to end practice. And then when he ended the practice early, man, that messed it up for your guy, Jerry Judy.

27:50He didn't get enough catches in practice, and he was out there doing this. Show him what he's doing.

27:55James Harrison:Bro, Debo. I'm just saying, Joe. You are a loud man. No, I'm not. Bro, look. They got the tape of what he was doing. Look at the tape, bro. Like, look at the video. Jerry Judy out there. He's doing what he's doing. I got to see. See, you... She's trying to set me up. all right what it's coming it's coming yeah so they say it's coming but what we gonna do here we're gonna go ahead and tell them bro like go ahead and um

28:34hey man i'm having some i got me a martini i got me some olives and cheese there it is man about time man what are they doing

28:44James Harrison:Hey, he caught that? No, he dropped it. He dropped it. Hey, you know, I'm getting old. It's crazy. We're trying to just keep showing it. We saw it. We saw it. We saw the clip. Hey, man, stop yelling at people. Man, they keep trying to get you what you want, man. Get love. What's wrong with you? It's all good. Oh, man. You know, you got to catch that. You got to catch that. And then y 'all know y 'all had that joint practice, right? Y 'all had that joint practice over there. Hey, and you know, you know, the Bills, they over there, they over there talking about, hey, man, they said it's this this this is Checkdown City.

29:22OK, I guess your door and Watson were both doing the 707. I guess they look, I mean, I don't know. We got a clip of that. We got a clip of that. OK, we got a wing. No, stop clipping. That's it. Hey, Joe. Stop. Oh, Lord.

29:41James Harrison:Joe, you're acting crazy over there, man. I'm not acting crazy. Get together. I'm not acting crazy. Joe, you tripping. I'm acting passionate. Joe, Joe, Joe, you tripping. Anyway, let's get to y 'all game because it was 31-7. Y 'all got about 31-7. Like, I don't know how your quarterbacks did. I guess. Oh, I guess Shador. He went 9-11, 74 yards. And an interception, though. Tipped. We got to catch that. Anyway, and Deshaun, he did great. 5 '12", 35 yards, an interception. I would start him. I would definitely start him. I would start him. That's the guy I would start. Anyway, Joe, how did you feel your quarterbacks did?

30:22James Harrison:Let's start with Shoukert. I got a lot, a lot, a lot to say. I got a lot to talk about. I feel a lot of different ways, and it's because it's just, okay. First, let's start off with the quarterback play. Okay? In game two, just preseason game two, Shador Sanders outplayed Deshaun Watson, obviously, in game two. In game one, I said in the preseason that Deshaun Watson looked way better than I expected, and he played better than Shador. In the second game, Shador obviously played better. That pick that he had, I think you just got to catch. The ball was a little behind, but if they hit both your hands, you got to catch it or don't.

31:11James Harrison:Tip balls are picks. So, like, that one, I didn't feel like that was Shador's fault. He was driving the ball. Yeah, it was. You wasn't on the money. You wasn't on the money, but God damn, we're pros. We got to catch. You got to catch that. Hey, listen. Hey, you're a pro, too. You got to do it on the money. Understand. It takes two to tango. It takes two to tango. But look, like I said again, though, the game, though, obviously, that with some of the passes, with him with his pocket presence, with him not running around in the pocket, him standing tall, him hitting a lot of the crossers, them third downs, a lot of the passes, him throwing the ball vertically.

31:45James Harrison:It looked good. It looked way better than it did the first game. So, Deshaun Watson surprised me, looked better than Shador in game one, first preseason game. Game two, that second preseason game, Shador looked really good. Pocket presence, throwing the ball, doing what he had to do. Deshaun Watson did not look good in the second game, obviously. When we talk about— I don't—that's up to the person. Okay, well, you can go ahead. Because I think he should be the starter. Okay. Look, I was just talking about— I just talked about who did better in the first game than who did better in the second game.

32:19James Harrison:So we're having a legitimate quarterback competition. I'm just saying that I think, dang, okay, Deshaun got the first game. Shador got the second game. Oh, you're talking about a competition. I thought we were talking about the quarterback. I'm talking about the quarterback competition, and you're basically looking at how they play. Then we got – obviously, you have all the practice reps and everything. What I want to go to is now, after the second preseason game, when Deshaun went to the press conference. Did you see the press conference? Hold on, hold on, hold on. What happened? We got that right there.

32:54We got Deshaun. hey man he spoke at the prayer council he said the fam being disrespectful they was being disrespectful Joe I want to see what he said because I would have been mad I didn't have no reaction I think the biggest thing is I think you guys know too and I think the whole world knows it has nothing to do about the performance it's a little bit personal than that so I think it's a disrespectful thing so yeah I mean I'm going to keep whatever I feel with me and my family internally on how I feel about that. And, yeah, just move on. But don't you think, Bishon, that winning and playing better would eliminate some of that booing?

33:40Last time I played on this field, I tore my Achilles. And that same fan base, they cheered when I got hurt. So does that have to do with anything about performance? when a person get hurt, especially for your own city, and they cheer. Does any of that make you regret coming here? No, I don't regret anything in my life. You know, I think the Lord put me through situations for a reason, so I don't regret anything at all. But, you know, I had different thoughts on how it was going to be, but, you know, it is what it is. you know sometimes you know the tables turn and I'm patient enough because I'm a child of God to you know wait for that time to change so I'm not tripping on it I'm not tripping on it whoo hey yo he ain't tripping on it man listen them fans over there y 'all are disrespectful you're disrespectful booing the man y 'all cheered when he tore his Achilles

34:47James Harrison:you think that's right I'm going to tell you this right now. That was the most messed up thing of the whole thing that the Browns did. Literally. That's the only thing. We learned from Little League football, Debo. When you get hurt, the other team, you take a knee and you cheer when the person gets up because you at the end of the day, you don't want to see people get hurt. the opposite team. You cheer for the opposite team just to make sure that they get up and they get off the field safely. That's what we teach our kids. Because it's not, you're going to play the game, people are going to get hurt.

35:18James Harrison:You're not trying to hurt someone, but it happens. It's football. So when somebody goes down, Deshaun Watson, the one thing you had when you said is when you got cheering, when you get hurt, that's crazy. That's something where I can say, Let me say, that's something where I can back what you're saying. Everything else, I cannot. Joe, Joe, Joe. Hey, cheers, Joe. Listen, that's, that's, did you not hear me? Did you not hear me? Did you not hear me? You teach your children, Joe, not to do that. Did you not hear me? What does that mean when you have adults out there cheering, grown men cheering and celebrating an injury by another man, Joe?

36:01You know what that tells me, Joe? They wasn't even taught as kids by their parents that you don't do that. That's what I'm saying. That's what y 'all got, though.

36:09James Harrison:I'm with you 1 ,000%. That is terrible. That's trash. You don't do that. If somebody's hurt, we learn that from children. You take a knee and you clap for that person because you don't wish real injury. You don't want to hurt. It's a game. You're going to play hard. You want to win. You want to do what you got to do and pose your will. But when people are getting hurt, you want them to go home to their families. Because we know everybody got families. Everybody has lives. Oh, they wanted him to go home to his family. I'm just saying this. This is from me. So when I'm saying I got really upset, and when I'm seeing what Deshaun is saying from that, I hear you 1 ,000%.

36:47James Harrison:Now, this is what I'm saying from when you have to understand you're not playing flag football for free in the backyard. the Browns fans you came to the Browns for three first round picks $230 million fully guaranteed hey this is Kevin this is Joe and Nick Jonas from Hey Jonas this episode of Hey Jonas is brought to you by the all new drink lineup at McDonald's I don't have to tell you that there are already so many great drink options at McDonald's but the new drink lineup I mean it takes things to another level they've got delicious caffeinated refreshers like the strawberry watermelon refresher, crafted sodas like the Spriteberry Blast, and now the all-new Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer.

40:57James Harrison:You played 19 games in four seasons. You got that contract because those three Pro Bowls that you made in four seasons in Houston, which gets you that$40 million a year. We talk about what your contracts get you from what you did previously. Right now, you're on the Cleveland Browns. They're paying you$40 million per season to be the Deshaun Watson you were in Houston. The contract you're working to get now is how you're playing right now. and how you're playing right now, you've done four seasons for the Browns so far. You played 19 games. You had, in 2022, you came there, was suspended for 11 games because of what was going on out in Houston with the 20 allegations with the massage joints.

41:43James Harrison:What happened? And it didn't come out to be nothing, but you still got suspended from 11 games for that. Hold on. What happened? What went on? Allegedly, it was 20 women that are saying allegations of things going on Oh, I got it. That's why he got suspended when he first came here. So now the Browns, you're making$40 million that year. You don't play 11 games because you're coming from the suspension. All good. The next season, you miss the final nine games because of your shoulder. Right now, when you're making$40 million a year, you already missed 11 games. Then you missed nine. So you're$80 million up and you missed 18 games in the first two years.

42:19James Harrison:So now the team, they're not getting what the old Deshaun. Now they're$80 million in with eight games, no real good production like that. 2024, you come back, tear your Achilles, and you get two surgeries. So you miss seven. You miss the final seven games of 2024, and then you miss the whole 2025 season because you had to get two Achilles surgeries. This is all time where when I was playing for the Browns and I had my concussion, I was getting hurt. I was getting paid$13 million. The team are there looking at me, and now they have the right to boo. I'm getting paid top flight money. If I'm not out there, then I deserve to be like, okay, no, Joe, what was going on?

43:02James Harrison:You're getting paid the big bucks. It's a business. So I have to be producing at a high level and know if the tape is showing me not looking good, there's going to be people talking like, oh, he's getting paid too much money. Maybe we can get rid of Joe. Does he have trade value? So you got to be big enough to know at the end of the day, Deshaun, you're still making$40 million per year. They have a right to want you to be good. Like, if you're playing well, nobody's booing. But when you get out there, it's not too much good ball. Then you come like, so you got to understand, end of the day, you're still making that$40 million a year.

43:37James Harrison:When you're out the way and you're chilling, when you're rehabbing, nobody's rocking, nobody's saying nothing. Nobody was on your back. But when you get out there and you're on the field and performing, everybody has the right to be like, you owe us. You're out here. we gave up three first round picks. We gave you 230 million to be our quarterback, our franchise guy. And you're not out here looking like Josh Allen, like Patrick Mahomes, like Dak Prescott, like the franchise quarterbacks that are out there that don't have the fully guaranteed. You came here and we expect you to be a baller for us.

44:05James Harrison:And now you're not. So the fans, to boo him when he's hurt, you're dead wrong. You're dead wrong. You have no right to do that. For you to boo him for his performance out there, not performing well, you got every right to do that. He's making$40 million, and you need to see him out there balling. Because if he was balling, I hope to pray that nobody's going to be booing him then. Because we want to win. I don't give a damn who the quarterback is. Deshaun, I want you to succeed. I want you to be well. Because you're the quarterback of my team. I want my team to win. And if you give us the best chance to win, please go out there and ball.

44:37James Harrison:But if you don't, then I want us to have Chidorah see what we can do. Because we need quarterback. We need a quarterback position. You've been making this bread. And I would love for you to ball. But if you're not, put your door in there and let's go. So that's why I'm like, the fans can go out here and they have every right to be mad because, bro, we don't have picks. People are missing now. Miles isn't here because now if we would have been here, you would have been balling. We would have been able to keep Miles and we could still be trying to go somewhere right now. But we're looking for a franchise quarterback, but we're paying franchise quarterback money and we don't have one.

45:11James Harrison:So that's why everybody has their right to be mad. No more. Hey, Joe, that ain't really franchise money no more. It's only 40. It's franchise money like 60. I feel you, but that was what set us back. It's guaranteed. It's 230 million guaranteed. However you want to look at it. I just, hey, Joe, listen. So you're saying it's okay to boo him because he suck, but don't boo him because he suck. Yes. A thousand percent. Because that's just, that's Little League. You don't boo. If you're hurt, you don't boo. How do you hurt somebody if somebody's hurt? That's just dirty. They're hurts. Make sure they're okay, please.

45:47James Harrison:They can get off to the sideline and we continue the game. But if you're playing terrible and you're getting paid the back, obviously, I don't lie. You know if you're not doing good. I'm like, damn, I deserve to get booed. Well, you know, he said. I got to make a play. That ain't why I was getting booed. He said his performance was on the money. No, it was not. And I think it was. That's the other part. Listen, listen, listen. Todd Monkett. He was out there doing it. The ball was hitting up against the green. Listen to what Todd Monk said after the game, man. He believes in me. How's it feel to get booed?

46:20I mean, it's a pretty easy question. It sucks. I don't want to get booed.

46:25James Harrison:Yes. It comes with the territory. Yes. You want to get booed? Let's play good football. Oh, my God. Let's play good. Is he listening to me? Let's play good on offense. Let's play good as a team. And then you don't have to worry about all that because it can turn just like that. win, play good football and everybody will be fine that's just part of it that's why I told him, you good? we're good part of what we do

46:52James Harrison:damn, Joe hey, Coach Todd Munkin understands what the hell is going on okay, so he just said what I was saying if you play well nobody got nothing to talk about If you're out there looking like boots, then people are going to talk about you. And because we're not playing flag football for free in the backyard. You're playing the National Football League, coach. If I get hit up, man to man, if somebody beat me, they're like, man, Joe out there getting hit. Man, what you talking about? Yes, Joe, you're getting hit. That ain't really what they talking about. They talking about... They booing me. They ain't got nothing to do with my performance.

47:31They ain't got nothing to do. It don't matter. I got torched on three plays. I got torched for two tutties. It don't matter. dang why they booing me.

47:40James Harrison:You know why they booing me, Joe? I don't know. I wasn't booing at the beginning. Look. Hey, Joe, I ain't gonna lie. I hear you, man. Hey, Joe. All I know is I just want Deshaun to know I do not want you not to succeed. And I'm not out here booing. I'm just telling you it's the play. You gotta be understanding what's going on. Like, play well. Like, Coach, What Todd Munkin said, I was rocking with. Because I'm like, Coach Todd Munkin, you make complete sense. We're playing in the National Football League. We're going to be getting judged by what we do out there and how it looks. If it don't look good, you got to be able to take criticism.

48:20James Harrison:The same way when you was elite and you got this 230 because you went to the Pro Bowl three times in a row. You requested a trade from Houston because you were like, man, no, I deserve that bag. You picked teams that you wanted to go to. Cleveland wasn't in the running, and they offered a 230 guarantee. Okay, bet. No, that sounds good. I'll go over there, run it up. So, like, now you got it because of what you did on the football field. Now you're giving us the performance. This is not a$230 million contract for the last four years that you've been playing. No, we're trying to – it's like, well, I don't know what deal you would be able to get right now because it's the what have you done for me lately in the league.

48:57Joe

48:58James Harrison:all I'm saying is that I personally I personally understand what you're saying I think along with the fact that your fan base weren't raised well weren't taught as children they grew into adults that didn't say anything that was jacked so that's a lot of what happened But also, it's every year, Joe. They've been going through this for their whole lifetimes. And they're thinking they done got this quarterback that's about to go out there and do this for him. Because when you look at his resume, what he was doing there, and you're thinking that, you know what? If we get half of that, we're going to be good.

49:47And y 'all come in and you don't even get half, Joe, so they upset.

49:51James Harrison:Primo. Joe, they pissed off. They upset. They ain't got no manners. They mannish. You know, they do. They're just so frustrated. They need to let something out. And, you know, that's the thing, like, where you get kicked around all week. And you go out there on Sunday and you go to root on your team. And you know what? You get kicked in your mouth again. So you're just getting your face kicked in all the way through. And you're frustrated. You're upset. You're angry. So now you're just raging at anything. You know, hurt people hurt people. You know, y 'all guys been hurt for so long, Joe. You got to understand it.

50:32You understand that?

50:33James Harrison:I hear you. I hear you, D-Bo. The pain. The pain I'm feeling. I want you to feel that pain because I don't know nothing else but pain. That's Browns. That's they fans. No, that's not. That's not. That's not. We just, we want, we want to win. We want to win. That's the only thing. We want to win. We deserve to win. Everybody wants to win, but it's a way that you got to win. You got to go about winning. Do you think you should win and be rewarded when you do things like that? I don't care how long you lost. Look at the Cowboys. They've been getting their ass kicked for 30 years. They've been them boys for 30 years, and they ain't did shit with it, but they still believe they're them boys.

51:18You don't see them over there booing Dak when he hurt himself.

51:23James Harrison:Nah. Yeah, Debo, I can't stand on the booing him when he got hurt part. But that was the one thing I said. That's not cool. That's not right. That's jacked up. I feel you. But the performance part of why, like, yeah. Damn. So now, look, he's starting. Listen, listen, stop. The best thing is now. Let me root you right there. Like I said, hurt people. He started. How did you think that man was supposed to respond after he done went through? Give me that resume. 11 games here because of injury. Or 11 games here because of something that didn't even get proven of anything. And then you got something over here that he hurt here about his shoulder for another something else game.

52:12Then he hurt here about his killies. and as he's hurt, laying on that floor, that pain, that pain where you in your head, you think, you're trying to realize that am I ever going to be able to play this game again? Get back to where I was at. They booing him. They booing him and celebrating the out of there. How do you think that made him feel? How do you think that made him feel when he heard them boos? It just all started cycling back over.

52:34James Harrison:What do you expect that man to say, man? That's the part you got to understand. At the end of the day, that's going to hurt. as a person, it's going to hurt your feelings, for sure. You don't want to be booed when you're hurt. He been on it for three years, Joe. I understand that, Debo, but that's what I'm saying. For him to go out there, you got to understand you are a professional quarterback in the NFL. So it comes with the territory to where at the end of the day, I hate to keep saying this, Debo, but we're not playing for free. So I got to be able to take some of this stuff on the chin and know, boom, Booing, not booing, I've got to get myself right.

53:12James Harrison:I've got to take care of my body. I've got to do what it takes for me to just get back out here and play the game. He's been doing that. So for him to say, like, oh, like, that obviously as a man is going to hurt my feelings. Like, I'm going to feel a certain type of way. But as understanding, they want the team to win. They want me to come out there and perform. I was paid as a franchise quarterback to do that for the squad. So just knowing, like, where you stand, it's going to be what it's going to be. the people, like, you're still living your exact same life. You're going to be able to make your bread.

53:43James Harrison:You already signed that contract. So for the fans, for them, they want a$40 million player to be out there balling. When we look at TJ Watt now, people start talking about, oh, should we trade TJ? Is he still good enough? I'm like, guys, just let the man, like, he's on the squad. He's going to be what it is. Like, TJ is TJ, no matter what. So if you don't keep playing to that exact same all pro level every single year, the older you get, people are going to start just like, man, no, we could go get somebody else. We can move on. So just having that in your mind, Deshaun, you're a 30-year-old quarterback.

54:21James Harrison:It's been in the league for a while with the injuries. So it's like you got to start looking at yourself in the mirror and start understanding your NFL life, like how much longer you really have, what's really going on in your situation. So being able to still have that 230 guaranteed, I just want him to realize, like, you're still every two weeks, you're still making that check. So you want to be able to still get back to it and play at a high level. Only way you can do it is what you were doing in Houston. You were balling. So you have to ball to be able to continue to move around like that.

54:54James Harrison:All right, Joe. Now look here. I'm going to go ahead. I'm going to keep going. Please. I was messing. Hey, bro, you getting paid$40 million. dollars. You can call me everything but a non-belief. And I ain't gonna say it. You hear what I'm saying? I know you know what I'm talking about. That's part of the process. You gotta be a man and stand there and say, you know what? I didn't play well. That's why I got booed. You've been messing with me this whole time. They may be booing you because of some other stuff too. You've been messing with me this whole time, D-Bo. You played like trash. You've been messing with me this whole time.

55:23You went 5 or 12 and you threw an interception. What is you talking about? They not booing me for my performance. They booing you for your performance. That was garbage. Like, I think I could have did that. I know I could have did that. I probably would have at least got 40 yards. And if they go out there and they was like, hey, man, James, man, listen, I ain't gonna lie. I ain't never been booed. But if I did get booed by my fans, which I probably was booed, they called me a bunch of other stuff when I left and went to New England now. Hey, no response. For what? I'm gonna give you what you're looking for and what you want.

56:01All you had to say, you know what, man? I heard it. Don't like it. I need to play better. I can kill all that. Great play. Winning kills all the boo birds. They don't come back no more. They're gone. Hebo, you know it. It's about the play. Like, bro, stand there, man. You know, I went through a whole process. Like you said, that ain't the reason. That reason over there, that's the one that I would have been trying to explain myself. Not this. No, listen, man. I played bad. They boo me. Hey, it is what it is. I got to do better. But obviously that didn't, that didn't factor into who they decided to pick as their, their starting quarterback because.
