In short

Steelers training-camp ramp-up and contract timing for Joey Porter Jr; NFL roster cutdown anxiety; Browns quarterback controversy—Todd Monken’s comments about Deshaun Watson; Browns front-office confidence and a separate debate about assistant GM Mary Kay Cabot defending an executive’s “Los Angeles made me do it” sweatshirt.

Guests

None. The episode is hosted by James “Debo” Harrison and Joe Hayden (no external guests appear in the transcript).

Guest backgrounds

N/A (hosts only). Debo and Joe discuss their football experiences and father/coach perspectives; Joe speaks from personal NFL roster/cut experiences.

Key claims

  • Porter Jr’s practice in pads is framed as the “acclimation process” needed before game readiness; a deal could happen quickly but he still needs time.
  • NFL “welcome to the league” is described as roster-cut phone-call anxiety; if you’re not called after a certain time, you’re likely safe.
  • Todd Monken is criticized for saying he only viewed Watson “from afar” (cross-referenced), implying fans can’t trust his justification for starting Watson.
  • Browns assistant GM Catherine Hickman is portrayed as confident in putting players in positions to succeed.
  • Mary Kay Cabot’s defense of an executive’s sweatshirt is argued as biased and distracting from professionalism.

Notable examples

  • Video clips of Porter Jr getting acclimated in pads under Mike McCarthy.
  • Eli Heidenreich making the 53-man roster via Twitter.
  • Monken’s “looked at it from afar” explanation about Watson film.
  • Hickman quotes about “DNA on defense” and “explosive and score points.”
  • The “Los Angeles made me do it” sweatshirt controversy.

3:33Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison, and I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. How you doing today, Joe?

3:51James Harrison:Hey, man, Debo. I am doing stupendous, my brother. And I'm not going to lie to you. I'm cracking up because you are actually in a different location. So when I see you and you're not normal, I see you in a hotel. That look like a hotel to me. Hotel. That look like you in a hotel. Yeah, man. You know what I'm saying? I see you. You was traveling. I'm hitting you up. You like, yeah, I'm about to land. I'm calling you this morning, trying to prep for the show, trying to see what's going on. I'll be like, yeah, you know what I'm saying? I'm about to call you back in a minute. I'll call you when I land.

4:25I'll call you when I land. I'll call you when I land. Oh, so you in the air. I was in the air, baby. I was in the air going crazy, man. I had to go in. Boom. I got the doc now. My internet done downloaded. I'm good right here, baby. I'm okay. Yes. Are you connected to your wifi? I'm connected to my wifi. I was running a little late, man. See, so I went to the Avis, man. The Avis, they ain't had me on my preferred list like they were supposed to, man. You know what I'm saying? So that slowed me down right there. That gave me another extra 20 minutes that I was strangled. Ah. So, but I'm out here.

4:57I just landed at Newark Airport a little while ago. My son. Okay. They're playing a game. They're playing a game tonight over here at, I think it's Hill School, Pottsville, PA or something. Okay, okay. Let's go. Go ahead and, you know, play a little ball. I'm just hoping for a healthy outcome. That's all I'm really hoping for, especially for my oldest and my youngest, to be honest with you. I don't think my youngest is going to play, though. Okay. What position they playing right now, D-Bo? James is linebacker, strictly. Henry is a DB and a receiver, but he had a little tenderness in his Achilles, so he got another three, four days.

5:37So he'll be ready for the next game. But James, he had two. I told you it was four surgeries and almost. Yeah, no, for sure. I'm just trying to I'm just trying. I'm just hoping for a healthy outcome. Healthy season. That's that's that's that's what I'm looking for, brother. But that's why I'm out here right now. That's why I'm sitting in a hotel. You know what I'm saying? I got to get ready after I get done with this and then drive up there, get there so I could work on him. I work on him every day, you know, get his ankle and all the other stuff that he had done, you know, getting that full accommodated rehab.

6:14You know what I'm saying? All the body. Being a great father, D-Bo. Listen, man. Hey, Joe, I'm going to tell you something right now, man. This great father stuff, Joe. Yes, sir. I drive an hour. I drive an hour every day to his school and back to work on him. To do some body work for 30, 45 minutes, dude. Hey, I ain't... Come on, man. Listen, listen. Hey.

6:39James Harrison:You can tell him, you can tell him with your words as much as you want, but you show him with your actions, D-Bo. You show him with your actions. I'm trying to tell you, boy. Listen, ain't nobody gonna love you as much as your parents love you. Your daddy, don't nobody want more for you than your daddy do. You understand that? Come on, man. Yes, sir. Speaking of that, we're going to go on over to the Stiller, to the Stiller Ball. Okay. So, Stillers, DB, nephew, Joey Porter. Yes, sir. He was going back in Paris for the first time with Mike McCarthy. We got some video of what he was saying right here.

7:15Keep going.

7:20Yeah. Just a little video. Bull pads. Getting ready.

7:27James Harrison:Cleats on. Cleats on. You know? Letting them know. this is you gotta get in it's time what's the word I'm looking for Joe what's the word I'm looking for account what you call that where you get acclimated there it is acclimated okay yes that's the word I was looking for boy getting his feet together when he first that was actually I think his second day his first day he was just doing individuals and all that and uh mike mccarthy he had said that you know joy porter was doing you know a good job he's going through the ramp up process as he called it he said you know we're going to do a little bit more with him today i think that was that video right there and then he said for the first time it's the first time he had a chance you know to actually see him in pads and you know they're trying to stay true to the being smart and not trying to do anything too fast which is which is extremely smart because you know how that goes it sounds like they're doing exactly what they should do in a ramp up to a season he didn't get the training camp and all the other stuff that he was supposed to get through that process is go out here yes to a position where hey he ain't played all season he did nothing all you know training camp or whatever it may now get 60 70 plays at 100 miles an hour and then y 'all wondering why these guys are getting these soft tissue injuries and these muscle strains to go, you know, a groin, a quad, a hamstring, whatever that may be.

9:03So, but the big to-do is you see this as a sign of a possibility of a deal getting done? Joe, what do you see?

9:16James Harrison:Debo, everything you said was exactly right. The one thing is there's the process of he has to get the acclimation process. You don't just sign the day before. We know it's last minute before the game starts where he's going to be able to get the contract, but that doesn't mean he's instantly ready to get onto the field and be ready to play and be ready to perform at the highest level. So with Joey Porter Jr. knowing where I'm like, it's eight days at least before the game, hopefully two weeks, because you're not just going to throw him back out there. Training camp is the time when you start, you're getting your footwork ready, you're running, you're guarding people because nothing's like, You can't get ready for football except for playing football.

9:54James Harrison:You have to have your pads on. You got to be running around. You got to get comfortable in your equipment. That's the only way. I love looking forward to training camp because I know all that offseason stuff we was doing, the running, the conditioning, that's all good. But it's getting me ready to go out with my pads, being able to just get that feel. Because it's quick. You're going to get right back into it. But it's going to take you a good week to start getting acclimated to your pads, getting to the flow, covering man-to-man with your stuff on, running, turning. It's like riding a bike, but get me back into that week, and now you're right back into your groove.

10:27James Harrison:So the acclimation process right now of him doing that, because you can do all the conditioning you want, but you've got to start getting into the grass and really start covering dudes and really start getting your press and getting your man-to-man on. So him doing that right now is showing me. He knows it can be 24 hours. In a drop of a dime, these dudes can send a contract, and it can get done. Omar and his agent, he feels like, I want to be ready to play the first game because I know if I do my part, I'm ready to play. I don't want to just be sitting, chilling, not practicing, not getting my process because then if I sign, they're going to be looking for me, ready to play.

11:04James Harrison:But hopefully they still know I got to take my time to get back to the level of, you know what I'm saying, first team all pro. So him getting ready right now and doing what he has to do and showing the team that, look, I'm out there. I'm showing you guys. I know what it is. I want to be ready to play in the first game. So he's doing his part. Hopefully for me, this is looking like I knew that it's going to be to the last hour. But Joey Porter Jr. going out there doing his part and showing him like I'm understanding. I'm still out here on the grass with my pads on getting ready because I know once the season, the contract can happen in 24 hours.

11:37James Harrison:I want to be ready to play for you guys because I know I want to be here. Yeah, I don't know. I don't I would go ninety nine percent that, you know, it's going to be some some type of deal done. I don't I don't see it where, you know, nephew would chance something like that without it being an opportunity for something like that happening. You know, I'm with you. It could be 24 hours, whatever it may be. But I think worst case scenario, there should be something done probably by the middle of next week at the latest, you know, through that process of, you know, hopefully getting him back acclimated and, you know, doing whatever it is necessary and the adjustments of where, you know, everybody feel like they're comfortable at as far as a contract will go.

12:26So I don't know.

12:28James Harrison:Yeah, I anticipate it. I know. And we were saying in good faith, too. You talk about Joey Porter. This is good. He's putting his pads on. He's going out to the grass. I mean, showing I'm ready for the season. Like, let's tango. I'm in here. I know that the season's coming. This is the final hour. So, like, I see him getting onto the field, and we were like this, man. You can't go out there. But end of the day, you got to prep for the season if you know what I'm saying, that you want to be ready to go for game one. You can't just come out there on Friday, walk through practice before this game and just go out there and be, you know what I'm saying, elite and expecting to play at the highest level.

13:06James Harrison:Definitely. Definitely. Now, everybody is making a big to do about your guy, the running back, Eli Heidenreich. He found out. Yeah, that's our boy. I guess he found out he made the 53-man roster from Twitter. He said, I saw it posted on Twitter, the official roster for the Steelers. There's no phone call or anything, so it's quite the anxious day awaiting around, but pretty excited. Joe, I don't think you understand that process. Debo was you about to ask me I was saying that's that man's welcome to the NFL moment no it's supposed I'm saying that's everybody welcome to the NFL moment because I would say learning now you don't want to get called everything is status quo you need to know I never you are scared if you get a call what you calling me for What you calling me for?

14:13James Harrison:Don't call me. Don't call me. I know. This is the thing. Once you leave that last game, the last preseason game, you know when meetings are. You know it's a schedule. It's a routine. It's a daily thing that now we've been doing this all preseason. Now we're getting into the regular season. All this is just dress rehearsal for the real thing. So I'm ready for the real thing. I know exactly when I need to be in on Monday. I'm coming to get my workout in, coming to get my lift. If you get a call, they're telling you to bring your playbook in. So I'm like, please don't call me. I never got a call my entire career.

14:51James Harrison:That's why I'm telling him. That's his welcome to the NFL moment. You don't want to get called. You know what you got to do. You know that you got a meeting to be in on Monday. You got a lift. You got to get prepared for the season. It's time to get locked in because we got a game to come out. All of this preseason stuff, all of this stuff. That doesn't, it was like, to vets, you just know it's status quo. I'm coming in to work out on Monday. I'm going to have coaches going to be ready for the game plan. It's time to get ready for the first game of the season. All this other stuff was dress rehearsal.

15:19James Harrison:Y 'all playing. You coming into the locker room to see your boys. If your boys are getting called, they're coming in and they're turning in their playbook, and it's a sad day. You like this. Dang. You see your homeboy. Ah, they calling you. Got to be more careful. Come on, bro. You hugging it up, man. It's going to be good. But hopefully your agent, you know what I'm saying, they're going to get you right. Hopefully you get through waivers. They might pick you back up on practice squad. You don't know about that practice squad stuff, bro. If they go pick you back up on practice squad, they tell you back to you.

15:46James Harrison:What I'm trying to say is, this is what I'm trying to say is, you don't know the situation of what the hell could go on with your mans. But I'm just saying, you're sitting there watching people get fired. You know what I'm saying? So you don't know what the situation may be for this man. He may not have a shot. He may not have nothing going on. So it's a sad point, but you know, if you don't get called, it's status quo. We made the squad. I was never really worried about getting a call because I knew I'm going to show up on Monday. We got workouts. We got a plan. We're going to get game plan. Now it's time for the nitty gritty.

16:19James Harrison:It's going to be a sad day for a lot of people that are going to get a phone call that are going to be like, dang, you know what I'm saying? That was real. Then they cut, bro. So when you see the roster come out, I already know my name on that joint. You know what I'm saying? like that's you Joe that's the same for everybody you see what I'm saying that's the first rounder that's the first rounder I know what he's talking about that status of sitting there but I knew in the process of him saying you know he's like yo I'm sitting there you know waiting I had to find out on Twitter be lucky that's how you find out here's the thing a lot of people don't understand about the game that we play is like you said you don't want a phone call you don't want to talk to them at all I don't want you calling me And you want to know how I found out I made the team?

17:03How I found out I made the team is when it was 6 o 'clock, after the 5 o 'clock call was supposed to be the last thing, and it was 6, I made it. You knew it was 6? Yes. You had the time for them to call you. You know, X and Twitter and all that other bullfrog. No, you're looking at the clock. The clock is telling you. Because the only time you ever get a call, bro, is when they're saying, Hey, look here. We going in a different direction. Joe, I done got that call five, six times, Joe.

17:37James Harrison:The only time I got a call was when they were telling me it was time I wasn't going to take the pay cut. Joe, we're releasing you. I was like, oh my. I couldn't believe it. I got a call. I'm like, oh, damn. What they calling me for? You said you didn't want to take that pay cut. I couldn't believe it. And I get to join like, yeah, man, Joe, I'm so sorry to tell you in the GM. Like, we don't never, you never called my phone this whole time. Because we don't have nothing to talk about. When you see me, it's good. You talk to my agent. Like, we chilling. What we talking about? Nothing. I'm doing what I got to do.

18:08James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? I'm handling my business. If you call me, I'm in trouble. Or something. There's nothing. There's no real interaction that we have to have. Or a head coach. You know what it is. Hey, we need to talk. Come on, they'll be in here. It ain't going to be a good decision. Listen, I'm going to tell you that right now. It ain't going to be real good. But when they cut you and they go put you on practice squad, I'm going to tell you how that card goes too. ChatGPT can do more than answer questions. 21:24James Harrison:So do we ever have to stop for gas? Visit HyundaiUSA.com or call 562-314-4603 for more details. Hey, let's go like this, Joe. Hey James We're gonna release you but we're gonna put you on press 5 Okay, okay, calm down They wanna stop you before you start saying my ass and everything else You know what I'm saying You mess around, get yourself cut for real You know what I'm saying Yeah You didn't make the 53 but you made the 65 Hey, hold on No, no, no. Well, back then, back then it was 58. You was 63? Or was it just eight practice squads? It was 61. Sorry. You're right. 61. It was eight practice squads.

22:13I think it was eight practice squads. Yeah, 61. It was only eight practice squads. Yep, yep, yep. Eight practice squads. So, like, you don't want to call. You don't want to call. It's not. Trust me. Nobody dropped the ball. Nothing happened.

22:26James Harrison:Nothing dropped the ball. That's not a bad organization. You just, you're going to figure, you're going to find out. because if you get, it's not, you don't want to get a call. Hey, dude, I had a homeboy. You don't want to get a call. James, you are exactly right. It's the time. That's what dudes were looking at. If you don't get a call, if you make it past five o 'clock and nobody's called your phone, that's when you know you're on the team. So it's basically like if nobody called, you just don't expect a call. I didn't get a call. Nobody called me. Boom, you're on the squad. But if you're looking at that clock and you just expect it, and they could call you 459.

22:59James Harrison:459, 59, bro. That's why I said six. I'm looking for six. I make it to the six, I'm good. I'm looking for six because you – I made it to the six, I'm good. Joe, I done went in May to 53 that Monday, practiced, had the off day Tuesday, practiced on Wednesday, and got cut Wednesday after practice, Joe. Yeah. Listen, Joe, I'm just trying to tell you, man. That's what I'm saying, Debo. They don't care. So that's why sometimes they can't even really hit people up because it makes things move so fast. You just just just be status quo until you get called. They ain't calling nobody unless they happen to explain to them why they letting them go or they need to get something from them after they don't let them go.

23:48James Harrison:That's it. They need they need that playbook. They walking in there to Grim Reaper. Like, hey, all you fans, all you people saying you didn't get a phone call. They ain't right. Listen, let it go. Let it go. It's cool. That's how it works. Matter of fact, Browns, head coach Todd Munkin, he would prefer if y 'all fans would agree with his decisions to start Deshaun Watson. Listen to this.

24:11Right. The latter one that we'd all be on the same page. Yeah, but that has nothing to do with my decision. Can't ever have anything to do with my decisions. Right. My decision's got to be what's the best for the Browns week one and all the way through the season. And as long as I'm the head coach here.

24:33What do you think, Joe? What do you think, Debo? Hey, listen. Of course. What do you think? Of course, dude. He would like to, you know, have his fans agree with him. Everybody would like to have everyone agree with him and be on the same page. But that never happened. Yeah. You know, and it has never happened. It never will happen. Probably in the history of the world. Everybody will agree. All right. so oh i find nothing wrong with it bro because you know at the end of the day who they go fire they ain't gonna fire the fan they go get rid of him his job on the line if it don't work out he the one gotta go yeah not not y 'all browns fans y 'all been around since whenever they ain't never won a super bowl and that's just what y 'all you know that's what y 'all do man y 'all used to being disappointed and you know that's why y 'all are where y 'all at and the mistake by the leg

25:30James Harrison:no read read the second one he said though Deebo read the full thing the second part with Todd so you're talking about when they asked him about the watching tape I guess Monk and hit the media with another head scratcher saying he hasn't watched tape on Deshaun Watson's previous games with the Browns. He said, I really, to be honest, having looked at it, to be honest, only from afar. When people say you had to look at it, well, not really. I looked at it from afar when I was down the road and crossed over film of something. But I try to take everything at face value when I see it. That's what you're talking about, Joe?

26:20James Harrison:Yes, brother. I wanted to ask you, how do you feel about him saying that? Do you have a problem with it? Do I have a problem with him saying that? Listen, yes. Listen, this is another example of the Browns. Browning. Hey, this right here is a literal like playbook of a Brown Browning. OK, so you telling me that you didn't even look into what it is your quarterback that you're going to be coaching is good at, bad at whatever that is, concepts, whatever it may be as far as the process of, you know, what does he process better? Well, what things bother and pressures of consistency of his throws, his abilities to be able to do the things that he did before, after everything like that.

27:07okay it's a different system you got a whole different staff and you have to see you know what it is that he's able to do well so you can do what's necessary to make an effort so that you can get the best out of him i'm not gonna put tom brady in the raiders offense and say hey go do what lamar's action does that makes that no i feel you like that's the that would be the dumbest thing in the world to do. But he's just saying like, yo, I'm feeding y 'all bullshit and because my decision, I can't really defend my decision because if I say I looked at the film when he last played, my decision is not defendable.

27:51That's what I'm getting from it. You tell me, Joe.

27:55James Harrison:I feel like Todd Munkin is saying that at the end of the day, what I'm bringing in is an offense. And my My offense is going to whoever can run my offense better is going to is going to get to be the starting quarterback. And what is and that's what's kind of annoying is when he does speak about how Deshaun Watson is more of a scrambling quarterback, how Shador can throw the ball a little bit better. I'm like, look, you're blatantly saying that quarter that you can tell that quarterbacks can do certain things better than others. When you're now saying that you don't care about watching what Deshaun Watson did in his past, I can understand that because it's like he wasn't playing that damn well.

28:38James Harrison:So whoever plays the best and what offense that I'm bringing to the schedule, that's who's going to be the quarterback. To say you didn't watch it at all, it's crazy. You telling me he's telling the truth saying he didn't watch that at all? He said he watched it in passing. I see crossover reference. That's like me watching the game on Cleveland, and it just happened to be that Baltimore was playing them, and I just crossover reference to see what Lamar was doing.

29:09You believe that? I don't believe it.

29:14James Harrison:I don't believe it. Listen, and he just wishes the fans would be behind him on his decisions. But you can't tell me that the decision was very sound because you ain't really paid no attention. You don't know what he was able to do before then. Basically, it's what you're telling me. I just cross-referced some stuff. And I'll just say, you know what? I don't care what he did or what he was good at before this or what he had the abilities to do and what he was good at doing. I'm going to just go in here and say, you know what? I'm going to treat him like a rookie that's at training camp that just came in and we're just going to evaluate him from here.

29:51James Harrison:But then they're talking on both sides of the mouth when you say that. And then you say, I think that because he's a veteran and what he's done in this league before, this is the reason why we have him at the starter. This is why we'll be seeing him do. They always they've stated that also. So I'm like, you can't say that and then say that they're talking out of both sides of their mouth. If you were the Browns fan, Joe, what would you think? I would think that I'm glad you said that. I don't know. I'm glad you said that. I like when you started. A little confused? I would say that. I said, Pissin, you was a Browns fan.

30:25James Harrison:Hey. I am a Browns fan. I am a Browns fan, but I'm not a fan of all of the things. I'm a Browns fan. I'm a Browns fan. Blue. I mean, Debo. Blue. You ain't blue? Listen, listen, listen. Listen, Debo. Listen, Debo. You are a Steelers fan, but you don't agree with everything that they do. So that's the same thing that happens with me. I'm a Browns fan. I want the Browns to win, and I want everything that we do to consist of us thinking about winning and moving towards winning. And when coaches don't say something and I just don't get it. You should feel this way. You should agree. And maybe if you agree as a fan, the rest of the fans will follow your lead and agree too.

31:10James Harrison:I'm not going to blindly agree with things that I don't understand. If it doesn't make sense to me, I can't just blindly agree. You think you can think on your own? You ain't a head coach. You don't know about what it takes to make those decisions. Sometimes I understand that a head coach doesn't have all the authority to make all the decisions. Maybe sometimes it's over his head, and sometimes he's not going to give us direct answers. He already told us that he would lie to us. I mean, like, look, maybe I can want Shredor to go to practice and be working with the starters. Maybe not. Maybe I switched it before.

31:42James Harrison:So he can say kind of what he wants to do. He's in a head coaching position. So he's going to do what he wants to do. I hope he makes the best decision. But right now with Deshaun Watson out there, him saying that he didn't watch his previous tape, maybe probably lies. He's obviously seen him play and he knows what he does. And then when you say that I'm going to make the playbook for Deshaun a little more because he's more athletic. So obviously you're going to cater to what he can do better than you're going to make it different for when Shador goes in. You say that you're going to cater to the quarterbacks and what they're what they like and what they're best at.

32:18James Harrison:But then you say that you didn't watch their stuff and you're just going to basically whoever's playing the best. He's going off present. You know, he's going off what he's seen in training camp. He wasn't looking. It was crossing. It was cross-referenced. It's like, you know, you know how somebody think you looked at him because you glanced the crowd? That's what he was doing. He was glancing. He thought he looked at him, but he really didn't. You know what I'm saying? Like, you look me dead in my eye. I said, hey, and you look me dead in my eye. How do you say you ain't seen me?

32:49So, I don't know what y 'all got going on.

32:51James Harrison:Sometimes I get confused. So sometimes I get confused in what they say, and that's why I just can't come and always agree. And that's why sometimes the fans don't agree. But I always want the Browns to win in their success. So I just can't blatantly say if somebody says something, I just can't agree with it. That doesn't mean I don't like it. It doesn't mean I'm not rooting. That doesn't mean I hope now that Deshaun still goes out and balls. I think with your agreeance with your head coach and, of course, your fandom, because it's the land, right? I think you would just do that as a prerequisite to being supportive of your team, Joe.

33:39James Harrison:Obviously, I'm going to be supportive of my team, but you just don't have to support every move. and I know that you know that too. We just talking about my Browns now, so you just try to pound on. This is just one thing that he said about he didn't watch the stuff, but alright, bump that. What we looking like, we're moving forward. Deshaun Watson is the starting quarterback and we're playing Atlanta. We gotta figure that out. I mean y 'all, look here man. The Browns assistant general manager president of football operations, Catherine Hickman is is feeling pretty confident about her team, Joe.

34:16Listen. So we're excited about that. Sam is a physical player, a competitive player, plays with high motor, will be able to contribute in both phases. Really someone we felt was a really good fit in terms of our DNA on defense and looking forward to how he adds to the book. That's a good thing, man. It sounds like she's, you know, she's happy with what they got going on. And, hey, play that back for me again.

34:50So we're excited about that. Sam is a physical player, a competitive player, plays with high motor, will be able to contribute in both phases. Really someone we felt was a really good fit in terms of our DNA on defense and looking forward to how he adds to the book. Can you play the other video for me? I think it's another one of her talking about something else. It's a closer up one. Can you play that one for me? I think she was saying something about the squad. That's not, I'm trying to, I'm thinking. So we're really confident into our players and coaching staff. One thing that they do really, really well is put the players in the best position to succeed and explore their strengths.

35:38And that's what we're really looking forward to see on display as we head to Jacksonville and the rest of the regular season is really like put those players in those positions to create explosive and score points. That's the video I was looking for. Now, with that video right there, it sounds like they do the things that Todd said he doesn't do. They check to see and put their players in positions to exploit whatever it is that they can do well. And they, you know, they also. What the fuck was that? Play that big one again. I'm losing my mind. Play that. Play the one where I can see her whole body again.

36:24Wow, that's good. Play that one again for me. there um so we're excited about that sam is a physical player a competitive player plays with high motor will be able to contribute in both phases um really someone we felt was a was a really good fit in terms of our our dna on defense and looking forward to how he adds uh to the joe joe listen i thought my vision was bad i had to i had to go ahead i had i was looking at i don't know what I listen I know what they're talking about now talking about the sweatshirt Joe the sweatshirt that your GM got on talking about uh your assistant GM talking about LA LA made to do it Los Angeles made to do it what that what that is what what what what what Los Angeles made to do Joe did Los Angeles make what what happened what happened Joe the team made her do that or what is she saying?

37:22I don't understand what's saying. Did the Citymaker do it? Or, hey, Joe, maybe it's a thing where I don't I'm just saying, like, I don't know exactly what is being said, but I mean, when you start looking at this, you know, Los Angeles made me do it. I think somebody went over to Los Angeles. I think y 'all traded somebody to Los Angeles. Or maybe she's saying, like, yo, Los Angeles made me do it. I didn't want to trade Myles Garrett. I'm just the assistant GM. The GM is the person that wanted to did that. I don't know. I mean, because I didn't hear nothing about a hostage situation, about anybody negotiating a hostage situation, about somebody made them do it.

38:03They didn't put a ratchet on nobody or nothing. I don't know exactly what she's trying to say there. I'm just trying to figure out. I don't know. It seems like a shirt that you wouldn't really necessarily want to wear. It's not really, I don't know. You know what? Matter of fact, look at this right here, Joe. Listen to this. Can you please play my girl, our girl, your girl, Mary Kay. Mary Kay. She has something to say about it. Listen to this, Joe. Mary Kay, did you think that some people went too far criticizing an executive's wardrobe during a press availability? Was that going too far? Yes, absolutely.

38:58100 % that was going too far. I mean, my goodness, this woman is so intelligent. She speaks, I think, four languages. She's a great talent evaluator. She's got three young children. And I'm sure that the last thing on her mind when she left the house in the morning was making sure that she had the perfect, appropriate outfit on that Twitter was going to love. I mean, it's just ridiculous. And then if one person makes a comment, then everybody has to pile on. And that's just the world that we live in right now. But I think it's horrible because...

42:51Joe, Mary Kay, that's what she said in defense of your assistant GM with the sweatshirt on. Look here. So I ended up doing research. How you feel? What's up? And I guess Mary Kay had asked Freddie Kitchens a question about the clothing he was wearing. It was relevant enough for her in 2019 to ask a question about the coach's shirt and ask the quarterback. I think it was Baker Mayfield at the time how he felt about it. But you push on the 2026 and she's she's pushing back against the criticism that. Hickman over here is getting with the Los Angeles made me do it sweatshirt. Now, I highly doubt if Andrew Barry, you got that picture of Barry wearing that shirt.

43:44Give me that picture. It's AI. It's AI. It's AI. Now, I highly doubt if Andrew Barry was wearing this shirt right here, that she would be defending him with all that she defended Hickman with. Now, Mary, I think I know why you're being a little more lenient on her is because it is her. I think that is a big part of it. And now when I look at it and I think back. Now I have to actually question your ability to be impartial, especially when it comes to you talking about. Shedora Sanders. And as his brother said, Shiloh said, you don't like him. Now, with all that being said and this coming through, and you're telling me that nothing that she said or did, this shouldn't even be a blip on the radar.

44:56Now, what Shiloh talking about, that carries away with me nobody's going to give her a pass on this sweatshirt but you and then and then you went and gave her whole bio of her life how she speaks different languages she has kids and all that other stuff you didn't do none of that in defense of anybody else i've heard I haven't heard you give a whole bio of anybody in that process. And then it's another piece that comes into play with this puzzle. Why didn't the PR team say anything? Why didn't the PR team say anything? They could have said something. They could have been like, hey, don't walk in and wear that.

45:47You know why? Again, because she's a woman. and you cannot sit there and tell a woman what to wear with fear of maybe they might get fired, especially in today's times. Now, if it's us, how many times they tell us, hey, man, you might want to change that shirt, put on a team issue before you go do the interview. You're telling me your PR team didn't have the interwism to be like, hey, man, listen, looking at that shirt, maybe it's not the correct timing. You make like she just jumped up out of bed and ran straight to media session. Yeah. Come on now.

46:26James Harrison:Yeah. My whole thing is this. And I don't, and this is where I have a relationship with Mary Kay Cabot. So when I speak on things like this, it's not, this is my thing. I don't think, I think Mary Cabot does a great job on presenting the facts. If she hears some information, she's never lying about anything. If she hears something, if she talks to Kevin's fancy, I feel like with a lot of that stuff, she does a great job reporting the news. So if she hears something, she's a great job of getting some sources, and she's able to do that. And when she reports the things that she gets that are factual from certain coaches or general managers and things like that, they're very accurate, they're very precise, and she lays those things down.

47:09James Harrison:My problem with Mary Kay, and it's not really a problem, it's a difference in opinions. I don't agree with when she goes and puts in her personal opinion of how she feels about a situation or how she feels. If somebody is wearing this shirt, like, no, I think everybody jumped on. That's an opinion. That's how you feel that people would react. You feel like people overreacted. I don't. I feel like if you're a general manager or an assistant general manager or a player on the team and you come in to a meeting or something like that, a press conference, you have to be able to be smart enough and aware enough to read the room of who you are a general manager for you are a general manager for the cleveland browns so if andrew berry were to come in there you traded miles garrett to the los angeles rams everybody everything is clickbait everything is somebody trying to get a click trying to be trying to figure out a topic so if you bring in that you have to have the presence of mind to your where cleveland brown issue things when we're talking about when we're doing conferences about the cleveland browns like It's just kind of business.

48:10James Harrison:It's a professional thing, a way that you can go about it. And it's like you're bringing things that don't even need to be talked about. That's you bringing your own shirt, wearing that. You didn't have to do it. If it was a Browns helmet on, everything she said in the interview was perfect. Do you know what I'm saying? So we are actually talking about dress code, but then Mary Kay talking about kitchens, what he wore. I'm like, that's because you're a professional. You would expect them to come if they're going to come and address the media as the offensive coordinator, as the general manager of a team.

48:41James Harrison:You're going to represent. You know who you're representing. So I don't care, man, woman. You got to be smart enough to read the room and be able to take. I'm going to say that, too. If Andrew Barry did it, if any general manager did it, if any assistant general manager did this in this time, somebody's going to put it up. Somebody's going to say something about it. And it's like, you don't need to put that pressure on yourself. You need to be able to have a Cleveland Browns shirt on or button up. Like, that's your job. That's what you're talking about, the Cleveland Browns. You wearing a Los Angeles made me do it graphic shirt to the interview is like, it's a little like you got that.

49:14James Harrison:It's okay. And people make mistakes. So I'm not saying nothing's wrong with you. It's a bad person. Like, she's a bad person. She's not doing what she's supposed to do. But this situation, oh, no, that, damn, I need to, damn, that was wrong. I can wear a different, I should wear a different, I shouldn't have wore that. Perfectly fine. We move on. Nobody's trying to bash you, but at the same time, you don't have to sit there and laugh. Oh, no, like she's nothing wrong. She speaks four different languages and all that stuff. I'm like this. I don't care. That has nothing to do with it. She's a mother and all this.

49:41James Harrison:I'm like this. Yes, great. She's great at her job. Nobody's saying nothing about that. But right now, right now, she's not aware of what's going on. And you're a GM. Don't wear that. Your awareness is on zero. Right. there is no way that's that you that had even if it's by chance dude that it's a hundred percent accident that you were that i now have to 100 question your awareness like it's no way you step out there with the you you like the fit of that shirt you like how baggy it is hell belichick used to wear them all the time nobody said anything about it patriots on the front all that other stuff get a patriot they wouldn't even be talking about this if that was had browns on the front that wouldn't even be this wouldn't even be a conversation if it had browns on the front and then it wouldn't be a conversation because now you wouldn't have to cap you wouldn't have to go out there and and and just defend her profusely with her her whole bio of her life how she's a great mother and and she got kids and and you know she wasn't paying any attention she's just running out the house straight to her media session get the hell out of here man stop Stop playing.

50:57Like when you go in, you put out a take like this. This is where people go and question everything else that you say that they feel like is not. Relevant to what their opinions are. Right. Yeah. Absolutely. I don't I don't even see how you can defend this and say that you are not biased. One hundred percent in this situation.

51:24James Harrison:Because that's what I'm saying. With writing, with getting information, with doing all of that reporting, it's great stuff. Does a great job. But when you put in your opinion of how you feel about how a situation was handled, then you're able to, I don't agree. So it's not like nobody's knocking nothing about what's going on, but it's just like, I don't, that's a bad take. And it's okay to disagree with takes. Joe, it's the difference between a bad take and you just defending something for the hell of defending it. That would be like me saying we knew they hadn't gave Peasy a contract because I'm a Stiller fan.

51:58They hadn't gave him an offer. I'd be like, you know what? That's OK, though. But, you know, it's fine. I'd be sitting there lying. I'd be biased because I'm a Stiller's fan and I want that. That'd be like me sitting here and being like, hey, man, he got a year left on his contract. You should play it out. That would be me being biased because I know the reality of the game. she is obviously 100 % leaning towards Hickman in this no way shape or form that you can say that and say nothing is absolutely wrong with what she had on by any it's wild it's just crazy for them to even think that or say that come on you can't

52:44James Harrison:yes i feel you i just i always try to give to both sides benefits of the doubts but at the same time like you said it is what it is if it was anybody i don't care who it is you just have to be aware of the situation and not where that stuff you're putting yourself in a line of fire and if you don't agree with i'm like you're tripping like that's just not what a general I don't remember seeing. Like you said, Debo, that same hoodie with the cut, I don't care, with the browns on it. And there's nobody talking about nothing. I'm like, dang, I need to get that hoodie. That's a tough browns hoodie.

53:22James Harrison:Like, done. We're not talking about the design of it or nothing. Everybody's trying to figure out where she got that from. If that was personally made... Eric Mangini... Was that mass produced or did you actually have that made? No, no, no, no. That's what I'm saying. That quote, I lived in LA. So that shirt, that sweatshirt is a shirt that's made all the time. You can get it all over the place. Los Angeles made me do it. Yeah, Los Angeles made me do it. That's what... Yeah, them joints is all over the place in LA. So it's not like a hard one to find. Not a hard one to find. You can go find...

53:56James Harrison:Scoop that up. You ever lived in LA? You can go down on his... I ain't gonna lie. Scoop that up, huh? Scoop that up. Just don't wear it in a dish you want to meet. She ain't worried no time before that. You say that's something you could have got any time, huh? That joint's tough, though. I mean, that's what I'm not. I'm not going to join. I'm just saying. A couple weeks after the chain, Miles away. Rock that joint anywhere, but while you're on the brown, with the brown joint behind you, talking, doing the media interview. Tell me what statements she was trying to make with that shirt. I don't think she was trying to make a statement.

54:27James Harrison:I hope that she was not trying to make a statement, but that's just where the awareness is at. I don't know. like when you people is wearing the stuff you wearing something but i just think that i just know that you are talking about your assistant gm you it's a crazy have enough common sense to not come out there and nothing like that interns they were issued with the with the head with the helmet on it you're telling me your gm just rode up out there with la made me do it don't have nothing to do with y 'all. Just, hey, but got something to do with y 'all. Is she from LA? I don't know where she from.

55:02James Harrison:I got it. Is she from LA? She might be from LA. It don't matter where she's from. LA better do what? Leave and come to Cleveland? It's just a phrase. It's just a phrase of shirts, but this is not, it's just, it's just, you don't, it's just not right timing. It's just a phrase shirt, Debo. Like, it's just a phrase shirt. That's in LA. I like Mary Kay right now. I think that's why y 'all friends. that's what i'm not i'm not trying to do that but i'm i'm just saying for real if you're a general manager though that i mean just saying the sweatshirt you don't wear any other teams stuff you're not seeing nobody like that's just not what you do you just don't wear other teams stuff other states stuff you just wear your team stuff when you're sitting up there with the browns behind you like we call jerry mangin he wouldn't let us come to the meeting without team issue gear, only team issue gear on when you're in the facility.

55:58James Harrison:So it's like boom, that's because we're representing the Browns here. It's just more of, it's a business. You got to know, don't bring this on us. So can I ask you a question? Yes, brother. Is it true or not that every GM player and coach have a bunch of team issue material? that's just sitting there at the facility and their office. So you're telling me either consciously or unconsciously, you didn't even think about changing the shirt. The fact that you even wore it there is just, it's diabolical to begin with. Like, I don't, nobody, before you got out there was like, yo, hold up. Hey, you know we just traded miles.

56:56You might want to not put that. You know what I'm saying? Like anybody. Friend. Anybody.

57:06James Harrison:It's like you trying to be funny? I'm just saying. She's trying to be funny. That's what I'm saying. That's why I'm asking you. I'm like, do you think she's trying to be funny? What's the joke? What's the joke though, man? If she's trying to be funny, where's the joke at? Nothing. Yeah, there's no joke. They made me do it. yeah I I don't I don't I don't I don't understand and I like I don't have no foot leg to stand on for her because of your shirt

57:35you got some good words to say too but everybody was so focused on that shirt they didn't need to pay attention to the words that was coming out I think I think you got nervous with the words that was coming out you speak four languages and you muttered a couple words that I didn't even know what it was Four languages. I think you might have thought about that shirt after you got out there, after people started looking at you like real, with their eyes real big, looking at your shirt, and they probably talking to each other like, you just gotta, like... I got a little nervous. I got a little nervous.

58:07James Harrison:You made me do it. Yeah, man, you just gotta have a little bit more just awareness of the situation of what's going on. Your whole assistant GM. Hey, hey, you think the fans think this funny? They still ain't got over it. You think they think this funny?

58:28It's nothing.

58:29James Harrison:Listen, if Andrew Barry came on with us, put that shirt on. See, nothing that doesn't have nothing to do with football is what pisses us off, too. Y 'all can't even do football right. Y 'all damn sure can't do nothing else right. Y 'all can't even do dope right. Yo, we all looking at it, brother. don't play with me man we didn't know and look this is self-inflicted wounds that's what I'm saying if you don't wear this shirt there's no there's no inflicted wounds you got us talking we talking about it and it's looking crazy but LA made us do it come on come on assistant GM like all your you are not you haven't I've never you probably been doing you're doing great at your job hopefully doing great at your job right next to my boy Andrew Berry assistant GM we figured it out hopefully are you in there doing stuff, okay.

59:19James Harrison:I mean, maybe. But this one, you know what? But the only thing that I got to own smart and intelligent. But the only critique I have for you, only critique I have for you so far is don't wear the LA Made We Do It hoodie to the presser. Just, just, just team official, just team issue gear and then we're good to go. Polo, not even polo. Polo, team issue only. Y 'all can't go wrong with that. This is for everybody. You can't go wrong. Cautionary. Everything you said, interview, flawless I ain't gonna say flawless I ain't gonna say flawless because her words were like flawless in the approach of like yo this is what we're doing we're confident in that but it couldn't be too confident when your head coach is talking about I don't even know what we're confident in because I ain't watching I don't know what he does Andrew Barry can't wear a shirt a general manager can't wear a shirt saying nobody made them do anything because they're going to be like, what you mean?

1:00:20James Harrison:You instantly looking at him like, oh, what are we talking about? Nothing's funny about that. Nobody made you do nothing. I'm in control of my own mind. That man came on the show. He'd have been looking crazy. They might have been calling for their man's job. What? Andrew, if my man would have walked up there with a Los Angeles thing, we do it. Listen, they'd have been calling for their man's job. I'll go, man. Seven bucks? That's barely the delivery fee on an order of Dan Dan noodles.
