In short
This episode of The Debo Show (host Deebo; Joe absent) is a fast, fan-style NFL offseason discussion with some Steelers and Browns focus, plus a long tangent about stadium seating and a personal driving story.
Topic
Steelers tight end market and stadium changes; Browns draft strategy (possible trade of the No. 6 pick); Raiders signing Kirk Cousins.
Guest backgrounds
No guests appear in the transcript (Joe is mentioned but not present).
Key claims
- Steelers may need to pay more for Darnell Washington because the tight end market has risen; price depends on how the new coaching staff uses him.
- Browns GM Andrew Berry is “chumming the water,” signaling trading down from No. 6; Berry said they might not pick at six.
- Raiders’ Kirk Cousins deal is framed as heavily guaranteed ($20M fully guaranteed this year) and likely designed to allow rookie Michael Mendoza to learn behind him.
- Steelers adding black seats is a good idea for aesthetics and visibility.
Notable examples
- Mentioned tight ends: George Kittle, Zach Ertz/James McBride (as referenced), Trey McBride.
- Browns picks cited: No. 6, No. 24, No. 39.
- Raiders draft plan: selecting “Mendoza” and sitting him behind Cousins.

4:10Welcome back to the Debo Show, baby. My man Joe, he couldn't make it today. So this right now is the Debo Show. Make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your podcast. Hey, hey, chat. How y 'all doing today? Hmm? How y 'all doing? Y 'all doing good? Look here. My man Joe had to take care of some things. No biggie. Nothing serious. Nothing too serious. So I'm going to go ahead and fill in for us today. Okay? He ain't stuck in Mexico or nothing like that. We all good. We all good. Okay? Don't y 'all worry about nothing. Y 'all know what we're going to get into. We'll get into a little bit of this Steeler ball.
5:04We're probably going to talk some of that Brown stuff. I don't know. We're going to get into some other stuff too. So it's kind of a little last minute curveball. But listen, we're going to be good, baby. Hey, we're going to be good. Look here, man. the Steelers over here we got a little report talking about Darnell's Washington our our big tight end over there they're saying his value done went up a little bit and you know they're getting that from the last recent little bit of signings of these these tight ends over here they got uh they think the Steelers will have to pay more for Darnell Washington after this offseason because the price tag has gone up.
5:48That, people, I believe it to be true, but that's only if the Steelers want to keep him. I doubt they won't keep him, but that's going to be dependent on how the new coaching staff is going to use him. You know, while Washington getting a new deal no longer feels like a lock with the new coaching staff, that's only because it's going to pivot on how they're going to use him in the offense. And when you look at it, I believe right now you have Kittle, Kittle and think McBride, Arizona and San Francisco as a couple of the top guys. But the big one that's messing it up, I ain't going to say messing it up, but that's wrong, is the Pitts over there in Atlanta.
6:44They franchised him. So that right there is changing the market a little bit. But what people have to understand is that aster do have pride move. And right now he's around 12 a year. So a realistic number for Washington, I would say somewhere between maybe that 8 and 10 range max. And that's assuming that they have plans to use him effectively. Who was that? Oh, my goodness. The tight end that we just let go. Was it John New? I think he was making seven. And I would agree that, yeah, seven, I don't know, seven could do it, might not do it, who knows? You know, he's coming off of an injury too.
7:39But the old price obviously won't be the new price. So, and honestly, I think that's the, you know, the least of our worries as far as guys that need to get a deal done that have a year left. You have nephew, of course. We got to get something done with nephew. And we got boss. We definitely got to get something done with boss. Stillers need that. As a matter of fact, Mr. Rooney said, distillers will be putting in black seats that will be installed in the upper deck of Accra Stadium. My braces could be getting in the way. Y 'all got to understand my braces be getting in the way. I guess it's only going to be in the upper deck for now.
8:33He said, we're making changes to the seating. The sea of gold sometimes get overwhelming. So we did a little black and gold in there this time around. Chat, do y 'all agree with putting in black seats? What did Chad say? Yeah, see, it was John Newsman. I was right. Okay. Okay. Y 'all like putting in the black seats or not? Y 'all think we should go with it? Don't go with it? Do you care? Does it matter? What do y 'all think? Like, the Steelers putting in black seats to me, like, I think that's something that should have been done a long time ago. When you look at it, our colors are black and gold.
9:15It's not just gold. but again you have to look at what the use of the stadium is like who all use the stadium now when you look at it we share a stadium the pit panthers also use the stadium their colors blue and gold black and gold that may have been a
9:43middle ground of, you know what? We won't go black. We won't go blue. We'll just go, just go. You know? But when it comes down to it, the bigger reason is when you put dark seats in there, you can't see who's not sitting there, which I don't understand because I believe, like, we got season tickets sold out. I think, like, aren't we sold out for so many years in advance or something like that?
10:17Like, I don't know. Now, yes, you can see when the upper doesn't have as many people in it. I know, you know, back when we used to play, like, it was hard work getting a seat. It was sometimes, you know, even as a player, you couldn't get, you couldn't even buy the number of tickets. Because, you know, sometimes that you need it, depending on, you know, game circumstances and who we were playing, what time, all that. So, I don't know.
10:48Like, it just, I don't know. But I like the black and gold premise. It's going to look cool. And now it makes sense why you don't put them at the bottom. You want to see everybody in the seats. You need to feel those. They got to be filled. And matter of fact, when you go to the Pitt games, I believe they cover up like certain areas and sections of it that you can't even sit. I believe they put like the banners or the team logos and the names and all that other stuff. So, OK, I'll agree. It makes little sense. right they said listen the waiting list they say 25 25 plus year waiting list that's wow
11:44is that true
11:49ooh I see why the resale market be going crazy you can't you can't 20 that's wild you can't even get on the list right who we hey be careful on the resale tickets now y 'all know some of them teams out there they they making it to where if they see other fans in those seats and they find that out they go you gonna lose your you gonna lose your season ticket uh privileges and they go they go sell ready for a different take on formula one look no further than no grip a new podcast tackling the culture of motor racing's most coveted series join me lily herman as we dive into the underexplored pockets of F1, including the astrology of the current grid.
12:33Lewis Hamilton, Capricorn Sun, Cancer Moon. Wouldn't you know it, Michael Schumacher is also a Capricorn Sun, Cancer Moon. The story of the sport's most consequential driver's strike. We have one man who, upon hearing that he was going to be fired, freaked out, and apparently climbed out the window of the bathroom. And was Daniel Ricciardo's illustrious F1 career a success story, a cautionary tale, or some combination of both? He started getting all this attention and he maybe started to think, I'm bigger than this. I'm better. And plenty of other mishaps, scandals and sagas that have made Formula One a delightful, decadent dumpster fire for more than 75 years.
13:12Listen to No Grip on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. If you're trying to keep up with everything happening on and off the court, we've got you covered on the podcast Flagrant and Funny. You look at the top four number one seeds. What do you think UCLA is going to do? Break down that for me, my friend. Obviously, UConn is the overwhelming favorite in this tournament. But I'll be honest, I think people are kind of sleeping on Texas. Experts are suggesting that UCLA is the number one challenger to UConn and that right after that would be Texas. S &C is so deep and so thick in just about everything.
13:50It really is annoying. So it's UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU. Only ones that could possibly upset UConn. On Flagrant and Funny, we're giving our unfiltered takes on the biggest moments, the conversations everyone's having. So whether your bracket is busted or you just want the latest on the tournament, we got you. 14:25Anyone can now be an entrepreneur. Anyone can build an app. And it's very empowering. Each week, I'll speak to the people building that future. And we're going to break down what all of this innovation actually means for you. What I come to realize is that when people think that they're dating this AI companion, they're actually dating the companies that create this. We're experiencing one of the greatest tech accelerations in human history. And let's be honest, that can be messy. There's no playbook for what to do when an AI model hallucinates a story about you. But it's my belief that we should all benefit from this moment.
15:02Mostly Human will show you how. My goal is to give you the playbook so you can benefit. 15:2710-10 shots fired, City Hall building. A silver.40 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene. From iHeart Podcasts and Best Case Studios, this is Rorschach, Murder at City Hall. How could this have happened in City Hall? Somebody tell me that. Jeffrey Hood did it. July 2003. Councilman James E. Davis arrives at New York City Hall with a guest. Both men are carrying concealed weapons. And in less than 30 minutes, both of them will be dead.
16:03Everybody in the chambers ducked. A shocking public murder. I scream, get down, get down. Those are shots. Those are shots, get down. A charismatic politician. You know, he just bent the rules all the time. I still have a weapon, and I could shoot you. And an outsider with a secret. He alleged he was a victim of flat down. That may or may not have been political. That may have been about sex. Listen to Rorschach, Murder at City Hall, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
16:40In 2023, former Bachelor star Clayton Eckerd found himself at the center of a paternity scandal. The family court hearings that followed revealed glaring inconsistencies in her story. This began a years-long court battle to prove the truth. You doctored this particular test twice in so-and-so, correct? I doctored the test once. It took an army of internet detectives to crack the case. I wanted people to be able to see what their tax dollars were being used for. Sunlight's the greatest disinfectant. They would uncover a disturbing pattern. Two more men who'd been through the same thing. Greg Gillespie and Michael Marancini.
17:17My mind was blown. I'm Stephanie Young. This is Love Trap. Laura, Scottsdale Police. As the season continues, Laura Owens finally faces consequences. Ladies and gentlemen, breaking news at Americopa County as Laura Owens has been indicted on fraud charges. This isn't over until justice is served in Arizona. Listen to Love Trapped podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm giving them away. They go sell them, give them away. Be careful now. Sure you don't do too many at too many times. Yes. Tell you what, check on down here. We're going to see who agrees, disagrees with having black seats.
18:07Let's go. we go put a poll we got a poll right here right now now we really want to talk about i really needed joe here but we'll talk about cleveland but now i can actually just go the tangent about cleveland so the browns may be trading their number six pick browns gm Mr. Andrew Berry discuss potential plans for the number six overall pick in this year's NFL draft. It seems trading down is possible, although there's still a lot to be determined, including who the Browns take if they stay at number six. Berry said this right here. He said, it really depends on the prospects available. I don't know what we'll find.
18:59I don't know if we'll find a trade partner, but I would tell you guys, I don't know that we're going to be picking at six at the end of May. And if we are picking six, I have no idea where we're going to, or who, what we're going to take at this point. So this is just me. Chad, do y 'all think that this is a possibility of your guy or the GM? I don't know if he's your guy. He ain't my guy. Joe's guy. Of him trading this number six pick. All right. Now, the Browns need a tackle, offensive lineman of some sort, whatever that is. Now, with that being said, this is what I believe is happening. Okay?
20:17I think he just chum in the water. You know how like when you go on shark hunting or you go fishing for sharks or whatever it may be, you put out there the thing that most attracts them. Okay. And for sharks, it's, you know, it's blood in the water. Okay.
20:46Now, maybe he's trying to see, you know, if there's some team out there willing to give up that six spot. Because you have to realize that the Browns got three picks in the top 39. So they got a six, they got a 24, and they got a 39.
21:19So this is just me thinking out loud, okay? and I would assume the guy that they actually want at one as they won is either one not there period because he just said himself we have no idea who that is. That's one. Or two.
22:06They feel strongly about whoever it is that they want that he's going to be available at 24. So why not put it out there at a possibility of trading the six that can help you get something of greater value when you already feel like the guy that you want will still be there at 24. It's other teams out there that have a greater need for a higher position and may be willing to give up more value to get that spot. Like I'm just I mean I'm just saying Like when you put it out there Hey What Andrew Berry is doing We gotta watch this dude okay We gotta watch this dude Alright And he ain't talking to me He ain't talking to the fans He talking to y 'all other GMs out there Okay He playing with y 'all he playing with y 'all don't hey don't let him play with you like this you understand don't do not do not let him play with y 'all like this this is Cleveland okay this is the Cleveland Browns and this is just me like I said I look at both sides It's me spitballing, speedballing, but, like, this ain't, like, this new type Cleveland feel with them trying to say the same thing, have a, you know, have actual coordinated, you know, effort and approach to things and, you know, him out here just throwing stuff out there.
24:13You know, it's it's seeming like they're they're getting smarter. And. You know. I just don't. I hope it ain't happening because that's not the Cleveland way. You know, Cleveland don't smarten up, you know. They they revert back, you know, like that's just what they do. it's a reason that you know Cleveland ain't even won the AFC North since 1989 you talking about 1989 was the last time they had an AFC North title gas was less than a dollar like chat was he was Joe even born then like what when was Joe born, chat? He young. He young. I got kids his age, you know? I might have even been a fan, like, I think I was.
25:22I might have been a fan back then. Let me see. 89? Da-da-da. 89 was, 89 gas or less than a dollar. Matter of fact,
25:33man, Joe, Joe was born in 99? Nope, don't sound right.
25:46Nope.
25:50Joe was born in 89. I guess he was born the same year. He wouldn't have been able to see it or remember it, though. You know, hell, when I started driving, gas was, well, let me say, legally driving. When I started legally driving, gas was like 97, 98 cents, something like that. What was it?
26:17Listen, hold on. I got a story for you, though. Let me begin with this. So I was driving, right? Well, like I said, legally driving. So when I was like 12, I had to be 12 max. my dad he uh he used to let me let me drive the car so that's how it all started all right all right my dad would let me drive when I was I don't know I was too young to even touch the pedal so you know I you just do the steering you steer the you know you steer the wheel he controls the pedal and all that and you know that probably happened when I was like 10 9 or something like that, even younger, who knows, who knows, whatever, whatever, whatever that may be.
Read the full transcript
27:05All right. Cause I was just too small to touch the pedals and he lets you do the steering, the driving and all that. And he actually would let the wheel go, you know, cause I would get nervous when he first started doing it. Like, Oh snap. Like he's going to let the wheel go, you know? But anyway, I got to where I was like maybe 11 or so before I was able to like really start and the first car i learned how to drive was a was a stick shift like back in the day when you if you had a you know a stick shift car it was cheaper so it was a you know it was a stick shift so by the time i was 12 like that was uh that was it like he actually let me drive so the crazy so this is how it happened my dad would get home from work right so when he got home from work if he had forgot to play his numbers or get his cigarettes.
27:56Y 'all know how that go when you're a kid. Like, hey, they ain't played the numbers that got the cigarettes. You got to walk to the store. You got to walk to the store. You got to go take the numbers. You got to play the numbers. And they already know who your mom and daddy is. So when you come in there to get them cigarettes, they already know, okay, yeah, that's so-and-so son, whatever. Go on ahead, get them the cigarettes. But if you come in there and you ask for a brand of cigarettes that ain't in there, you go, you know, you might get told on. Because that was back in the day where, you know, The neighbors go ahead and pop on you, whoop your ass.
28:24If you do something wrong, your mama done already gave him permission to go ahead. If you see anything, you let me know. And if I ain't around, you go ahead and you tap that ass. So that's the era we're in, right? So my dad gets home one day. I'm 12 years old, dude. And he's like, hey, I need you to go play my numbers, give me some cigarettes. and he's like, take the car. I said, huh? He said, yeah, take the car. Just make sure you don't hit nothing. I'm like, cool. Okay, so I go. I'm like 12, dude. I'm going to play the numbers and get some cigarettes, you know. I ain't gonna even lie. I was a little nervous.
29:12And just to think about that now, man, Like, to actually let my sons go and be like, at 12, hey, take the car, go to the store, and get me whatever you're going to get me at 12. That's crazy. That's crazy. Like, my dad was out of control. Hey, he had a lot of trust in me. But he was, listen, man. Listen, I know some of y 'all over there had dads that was letting y 'all dry the whip when y 'all ain't have a liquor license. Like, it's no way. Anyway, man. So, the very first time I drive to the store, you know, I'm nervous. I take the right route to get there, the shortest route. And by the time I got comfortable, it was over with.
30:11Y 'all already know what I was doing. Ready for a different take on Formula One? Look no further than No Grip, a new podcast tackling the culture of motor racing's most coveted series. The reason I say agency is because if we can give power back to people, then I think that's probably the best thing we can do for your mental health. Listen to Mostly Human on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows. If you're trying to keep up with everything happening on and off the court, we've got you covered on the podcast, Flagrant and Funny.
33:41You look at the top four number one seeds. What do you think UCLA is going to do? Break down that for me, my friend. Obviously, UConn is the overwhelming favorite in this tournament, But I'll be honest, I think people are kind of sleeping on Texas. Experts are suggesting that UCLA is the number one challenger to UConn and that right after that would be Texas. S &C is so deep and so thick in just about everything. It really is annoying. So it's UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU. Only ones that could possibly upset UConn. On Flagrant and Funny, we're giving our unfiltered takes on the biggest moments, the conversations everyone's having.
34:19So whether your bracket is busted or you just want the latest on the tournament, we got you. Listen to Flagrant and Funny with Carrie Champion and Jamel Hill on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. In 2023, former Bachelor star Clayton Eckerd found himself at the center of a paternity scandal. The family court hearings that followed revealed glaring inconsistencies in her story. This began a years-long court battle to prove the truth. You doctored this particular test twice in so-and-so, correct?
34:55I doctored the test once. My mind was blown. I'm Stephanie Young. This is Love Trap. Laura, Scottsdale Police. As the season continues, Laura Owens finally faces consequences. Ladies and gentlemen, breaking news out of Maricopa County as Laura Owens has been indicted on fraud charges. This isn't over until justice is served in Arizona.
35:36Listen to Love Trapped podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I was taking the long way. I was going around the block I was going past my homeboys houses you know that was in that three four block radius you know so they could see me driving the whip and all that while they sitting over there you know what I'm saying outside playing in the grass riding they bicycle like little kids you know I'm out here driving I'm a grown man out here driving what are you talking about bro what are you talking about I wasn't crazy enough to pick nobody up No, I ain't do nothing like that.
36:16But that's what I was doing, bro. That's what I was doing. And this is why Cleveland, they ain't going to never, I ain't going to say, yeah, as long as the Steelers and the AFC North, Cleveland ain't going to get another AFC title. That's all that's to it. so whatever you trying to do over there barry whatever bait and snatching whatever you trying to do it ain't gonna work i done told on you i done told on you they know if joe was here he would know he would probably say something out of the ordinary like y 'all working together y 'all doing something smart. Like, that's not happening. We know y 'all do something good for a short period of time and then it all flips, transpires into something that Cleveland does.
37:21It's the Cleveland way. Yes, the Cleveland way. This is not the Cleveland way, you know? But it is kind of the approach because y 'all give them hope. Y 'all give them hope. Y 'all, you know, So y 'all got to keep that fan base there. Like, they're not smart enough to understand that there's really no hope here. You know? Like, I don't – I would say I feel sorry for you, but I don't. I don't. Somebody got to be the loser. And there's no reason that it shouldn't be anybody else but a Cleveland Browns fan. You know? Dog pound, bark, bark. If y 'all can't even speak with words. Like, what is that?
38:18Oh, goodness, bro. Like, here we go, Steelers. We speak with words. Y 'all go, and dog don't even bite. Dog don't even bite.
38:36Listen My guy Kirk Cousins Is the coldest around I say my guy Because he getting that money That's That's all he do Is get money He been getting money Like That's all he do Is collect Kirk Cousins Will sign A five year 172 million dollar deal With the Raiders that in reality is a one-year fully guaranteed$20 million deal that contains an optional two-year$80 million.
39:13Now, oh, that's a combination. So the Falcons will pay Kirk Cousins$8.7 million this season, the Raiders$1.3 million. Las Vegas will agree to a new quarterback, fully agreed, 10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 league season.
39:35Like I said, Kurt DeRue just went out there. I don't know who his agent is. I don't know what's going on, but this is the 11th straight season in the NFL in which Kurt Cousins contract will be fully guaranteed. Fully guaranteed. Maybe that agent needs to start doing something with the NFL PA. I don't know. Anyway, let me go somewhere else. Like I said, I don't know who his agent is. I don't know who 9-2. Listen, I don't know who it is, but I don't think it's so much his agent as it is the circumstances of like where he's signing these contracts at for these teams. So the Raiders are obviously selecting Mendoza.
40:38So everybody knows that they're going to be selecting Mendoza for their for their draft. So with that, when you look at it, they're obviously look or to me is looking like I will say that they're going to sit him and let him learn behind Kurt for a year and then they'll go from there. I personally don't know if this look or not not the look, but if this plan is a good idea. I don't know if I like or dislike it, but I'll lean towards being a good thing just for a learning curve for for Mendoza. and I believe that this plan is why it's$20 million guaranteed. So Kurt is like, cool,$20 million guaranteed, which means he may be, well, he's probably going to be starting.
41:52I don't know if he will, but I'm going to assume that he's going to be starting. $20 million, that's a great deal. So Kurt's like, cool, let's do this. But since I'm doing this, I'm going to need y 'all to agree to something. And I'm Kurt. I'm betting on me. Okay? And I'm betting I'm going to go out here and kill it. And I'm going to make you have to make a difficult decision of either letting me go and running with Mendoza or activating that two-year$80 million option that could be worth, what they say, up to$172 million in five years.
42:50so I'm assuming the Raiders saw this as the best deal possible considering I think um last week just this week sorry Aaron Rodgers was linked to possibly going to the Raiders but But what did he just get? $20 million? Raiders gave Kurt$20 million. Ain't no way. I believe that's something that Aaron Rodgers would entertain for$20 million, especially after being over there with the Jets and seeing how that turned out. And now you're going to go to the Raiders that really, how many times did Geno like get sacked last year? Like he ain't trying to deal with that for 20. Like, like, what are you talking about?
44:03So I just don't, I don't know. I like Kurt. I don't like him that much. But, hey, I'm happy for you, though. That's no question. Guaranteed money for the last 11 years straight, nonstop, And now a possibility of going in there and getting this plus picking up an option for two for 80, 40 a year. Listen, again, like I said, I'm just sitting back and I'm just thinking out loud. I think this is what Kurt was looking at. He's like, y 'all picking up Mendoza for real, for real? Yeah, he ain't going to be ready in a year or two, maybe three. He said, all right, I'm going to go in here. I'm going to get this money.
44:56I'm going to play for whatever y 'all want me to play for right now. But, hey, on the back end, y 'all going to have to make it up. I'm going to need that option. Smart man. And look here, man. If he ain't got to play, it's cool. He's getting 20 this year no matter what.
45:19Like, Kirk Cousins is just calling Kirk Guaranteed Cousins. That's, that's, that's, that's gonna be, that's gonna be his new name. It gotta be his new name, brother.
