In short

The episode is mostly sports talk and then shifts into a guest interview. Hosts James “Deebo” Harrison and Joe Hayden react to Monday Night Football: the Bears beating the Eagles. They praise Bears QB Case Keenum’s efficient, quick decision-making (e.g., 24/34, 247 yards, 2 TD; 9/9 for 133 against the blitz) and the Bears’ flowing offense—play action, fast releases, and effective run blocking. They also credit Chicago’s defense for creating turnovers (3 turnovers total) and shutting down Saquon Barkley in the second half after he had 11 carries for 73 yards in the first half. They criticize Eagles offensive execution: too many penalties (around 10), dropped interceptions, and poor second-half drives (multiple punts, interceptions, and downs). Notable examples include debate over Jalen Hurts’ late-hit/get-out-of-bounds situation and Hurts returning after a protocol-related injury.

Guests

Marquise Pouncey, former Steelers center (Remington Trophy winner; 11 NFL seasons; nine Pro Bowls; Steelers Hall of Honor inductee in 2025). He discusses his NFL/Steelers experience, retirement mindset, family life, and Steelers offensive line turnaround.

3:56Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison, and I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. So, how you doing today, Joe? I'm doing great, my brother Debo. Another great day. Lord is made. Monday Night Football was able to watch that. I'm not going to lie to you. Caught me all the way off guard. All the way. All the way. All the way to the left. I'm glad we don't speak about the games before it happened because I didn't. Hey. This. Dog. I was like third string quarterback. Come on, man. Case Keenum.

4:40We like, no disrespect. None. No disrespect. But Jalen Hurts is making$55 million a year. Franchise quarterback. The starter's there. Healthy. Saquon Barkley's there. We got a receipt. Everybody's hit. That's why any given Sunday. Any given Sunday. Any given Sunday, brother. You can't get it, and you can go and get it. Yes. You got to play the game. Line it up. Line it up. If you don't line it up, you ain't got a chance. As long as you lined it up, Joe, you got a shot. 1 ,000%. That man Case Keenan, third-string quarterback, brother. Yes. And out there and went, what was it, 24 for 34, 247 yards, two touchdowns, 110.

5:30Passer rating, Joe. That man was, what was it? They said he was 9 of 9 for 133 yards against the Blitz. yes Debo Chase he was decisive he was accurate and then when you have Swift and Manungai toting that pill at eight yards a tote every time they get it so he just handed it off boom boom three step drops they're running slicks he's getting the ball out of his hands very quickly accurately the offensive play calling too they got this they got the Eagles running around into each other people running scot-free so like If you don't know if it's going to be running past, you can start doing these play actions.

6:12And Loveland, the receiver, my man, 14, 10. These dudes are, he's getting into the playmaker's hands. They're catching the rock and they're getting upfield. It wasn't too much. It wasn't great. It didn't look like you saw Chase having to think too much. He looked very relaxed. He looked very in control because end of the day, when you can hand it off to Swift, you can hand it off to Manungai, you start running those play actions, those three-step drops. He wasn't back there just patting the ball. He was getting to his back foot and delivering the strike because he knew his receivers where they needed to be.

6:42Ball was right to him and they were getting upfield. I was like, this is just great offensive play. This is great play call. It's team ball. Running the ball, receivers catching the ball, dudes making plays. Like, it was just great team effort. Yeah, he was, they said he was getting rid of the ball in 2.25 seconds, bro. Yes. He wasn't holding on to the rock. That meant the offensive line, they really didn't even have to block that long, although they did block well. The run game, they blocked. Well, average is still good. Average is good. Yeah. You know, as a total. Like, that's just really what it, you know, came down to.

7:20And then they had the one where they was a little over eight and a half minute drive. Yes. You can't do that without having a line that's blocking effectively. One thousand percent. Winning on first down. Like, you running for seven, eight yards. It's second and two. it's not too tough when it's second and two. Do you know what I'm saying? Oh, yeah. It just makes the game a whole lot easier. Yeah, the defense, obviously, they helped a lot of that. They created, what was it, three turnovers, one fumble, two underscoring. Ball searching. Going out there, getting it, making sure they get it back, holding on to it and protecting it.

7:59The game was a lot closer, though. Like the first half, they ended up, what, 10-7 right there? Yes. And Saquon, he was 11 for 73 in the first half. And then I don't know what happens. Y 'all get to the second half and y 'all get a man ball four times? Yes, they only gave it to him four times. That's for sure. And every time when he was getting it, they was hitting him in the backfield too. Like he wasn't able to even get going. Question two, Debo. Did you see my man Saquon? This has nothing to do with the ball play. Did you see him with the Bobby Boucher? Bruh, I was trying. Listen, I wasn't going to say nothing about the neck brace, brother.

8:34I was like, is that it? I said, hold on. Does he have one to Bobby Boucher? Yeah. He had one to Waterboy. That dream was crazy. So, yeah, that's on the side note. But he was toting the rock in the first half, being able to get it. But defense stepped up for Chicago in the second half for show. And did you see when my man Jalen Hurts? Get out of bounds, coach. Listen, that's right there, dude. No, no. That's not a late hit, bro. That's not a late hit. You have one foot. You're playing. Stop playing with these people. The goal that we want to have, we want to put hands on you so bad. And you're thinking it's all sweet.

9:12You listening up. Get out of bounds. Is that yard worth you getting your cap peeled back? No. It's like quarterbacks are sitting there playing with people because it's like late slides. If you want to get out of bounds, you can get out of bounds. You could have slid before that. The extra step you're trying to get is it really worth now me firing off on you? because that, when he didn't hit him out of bounds, his feet are in the white. He's talking about he's out of bounds. He's not out of bounds. Part of his foot is out of bounds, yes, but at that time that he's going into that hit, he don't know if he's going to fake that or try and cut up.

9:47Get out of bounds. You sitting there trying to play. Tell your quarterback to protect himself and get his ass down or out of bounds sooner. 1 ,000%. Debo, they're trying to get the flag. Like, now I'm seeing dudes, they're flailing. And, like, quarterbacks are trying to, like, they're playing the Ole. I'm like, brother, it's football. If you want to get out of bounds, you can get out of bounds. No, because these D linemen, they're running after you for their life. They've been getting blocked so long. For the chance that you try me on the sideline, get out of bounds. If you get out, lose that yard.

10:19Okay, if you want to take that extra step, I'm going to fire on you. I'm going to fire off on you. And now you out the game, and y 'all got old Red Rocket in there. and the first time he throw that rock, he give it right back. Lollipop. A lollipop. And my man, it hurts. You can't be mad at the protocol. You should have been in there even longer. The man set you. You was over there rolling on the ground, laying down like a, you was planking. So if you planking, go get in the damn tent, check on your extremities. Don't guess. Then you'll be able to come back. If you ain't do that and try to sell it, I'm like, bro, if you would have stepped out, if you would have stepped out one yard earlier, you would not be in the tent.

11:00And Rocket wouldn't have came out there and threw that lollipop. No question. No question at all. Like, get out, get down faster. Everything go a little smoother than that. And I don't really think, Debo, that it changed it too much. I mean, obviously, that's changed it. It did, dude. Like, right there. I'm saying the way that he played, though. He came back in before the half, drove it down, got it to Devontae. You know what I'm saying? They scored with zero seconds before the half. So I'm like, he came back and drove the ball right down before half and scored. So I'm like, he looked good right there.

11:31I mean, like that was instantly when he came back and scored. So I'm like, okay, all right, we can see. The second half was a different ball game. He was throwing it to the other squad. He must have, after that, the adrenaline must have wore down at halftime, and he came back out and started throwing it to the other team. Because some of those picks do like, you have the floater, and he's, I'm throwing it to Devontae Smith. You see that. He's like predetermining where he's throwing the ball. Yeah. Yeah. You had, I think, what was it, like 10 penalties against Philly? Like, I mean, you beating yourself in the process of them beating you too.

12:09Mm-hmm. I mean, were they percussions? When I'm saying the Eagles definitely got whooped, but the Bears and Case Keenum, they played great football. Case Keenum was doing exactly like he looked comfortable. He looked decisive. He looked like he knew where he wanted to go with the passes. So it's like I credit the offensive line. He did. No, he did. He damn sure did. And I'm saying with the play calling, with the offensive line, with the run game, with everything, it just looked – it just was flowing. It was flowing. They went for it on fourth and goal. Didn't get that. But still, just understand and feel like, look, our offense is flowing.

12:48I believe that we're going to be able to get it. A Dunze. That was a touchdown. That was a great ball by Case Keenan. Like, he tipped it with his fingers and ended up only getting one foot in. I'm like, that's not Case's fault. That should have been another turn. Yeah, he was trying to catch the ball, and then he thought about, oh, I got to get my feet down. He lost control of trying to make sure he caught the ball first. Yeah, need to snag that. That was a good ball, though. Yeah, Eagles only had, what was it, seven, eight possessions? One, two, three, four. Nine possessions. First one, five plays, punt.

13:26Second one, two plays, a fumble. Twelve plays on the one with the interception. The one where he came back in to eight plays. They got a touchdown. Then it was three plays, punt, three plays, punt, three plays, punt. Five plays, interception. And then six plays on downs. And that's the whole second half. After that, eight play TD, when he came back in, the second half, they did Nathaniel. So when we were talking about with Saquon running it, off the rip, like his first carries, he's getting hit in the backfield minus one yards. They're trying to do a swing pass to him. Your receiver's not blocking.

14:01Zero. Get your heart fired on. Zero. Yeah, man. That was the second half for the Eagles offense, not good. Yeah. It wasn't a good display. But I don't understand why you don't at least keep trying to hand it to Barkley. It was still, you know, it was still close getting up to until they went on hit and let them do what they want to do in the second half. They must have adjusted way better than they adjusted when the halftime came. Yeah, Debo. Because you look, when you said when they come out of halftime and it's three and out, three and out, three and out, that means on your first play, you can't get a first down.

14:43You can't get the ball. When you head it off to Saquon the first time, one-yard game. You know what I'm saying? Oh, zero yard game. You're starting it off at the first play of the drive, handing it off to them, nothing's going. So then you're trying to pass it the second play. Checkdown, dump, miss. And it's just nothing's getting started. So that whole second drive, if you lose on first down and you're trying to get your run game going and they're scoring points on the other side. Now it's like, all right, we can hand it off, but can you get seven? Are we going to be able to get 12, burst one out so we can now get on the ball, get stuff going?

15:13You don't even get a drive. You don't get your feet moving because you're always behind the sticks. You second and 11. They looking at you crazy. Yeah, it's hard. It's hard to, you know, be able to open up your playbook when you got such long, you know, down and distance coming into a second. That's like, you know, the second down, you're hoping you're getting somewhere between at least that eight to five range on your second down, you know, second and eight, second and five, something like that, at least positive yards. Yes. They weren't even able to do that. Like, it hurts. He ended 16-25, 153, and an interception.

15:51Like, that ain't – It could have been – and a couple of those picks were dropped. Like, he was throwing it to the lurkers. Like, a couple of times. Like, with the same one that he threw at the end of the game, that one hit Buddy in his face, dropped it. Like, just some of the decisions. I'm like, come on, man. It could have been worse. Could have been way worse, brother. Could have been way worse. Yeah. They're going to have to get that sorted out fix. That 2-0 or that 2-1 record now, it could be worse. It could be far worse. Like, they scraped through a game or two. I think two of those games.

16:25They barely kind of made it through. So, hopefully they can get it fixed. No, Debo. This is the thing. They can get it fixed. When I be watching these games, I just don't want to see. I don't like their fans. I hate their fans. I don't want people. They're so disrespected. Yes. For sure. They do. I don't use the word hate too much, man, but them dudes, they get close to it, brother. I take the hate back, but they get close to it, man. It's the fans, dude. It's the fans, dude. Like, you throwing batteries at the bus and shit. Warning, the following song has been rated dangerously catchy and may not be suitable for grown-ups.

22:33You know what I'm saying? That national championship together, of course. You know what I'm talking about? Look, I brought the, I brought the, I put the rings on. You got these. Joe, your dad didn't steal them. You know my dad stole all my rings. Your pop stole them. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I gave mine to my pop so he made sure I didn't lose them. I moved back home, went to the crib and got him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You robbed your own daddy, boy. I like that. Robbed my own daddy. I need him back, Pop. I need him back. I need him back, Pop. Hey, congratulations on y 'all boys, though, man. Love the podcast, man.

23:02Everybody talks about y 'all, man. Y 'all been killing it, man. It's crazy. I never, ever thought y 'all two, y 'all two would get out here and have a podcast. Talk like y 'all do, man. It's awesome, man. Congratulations. Yeah. It just fell together, man. It was God's timing, man. Yes, sir. It was definitely not ours because we just ended up shooting the shit for, what was it, the softball game over there? Yeah, yeah, camp. Yeah, I was looking. I'm like, yo, we need somebody. And I'm sitting there and me and Joe, we just started chopping it up like we done known each other for 20 years. You picked money, Joe.

23:39You know that's money, man. Joe now. Chill, pal. Hey, listen here, man. Matter of fact, man, let me go back to college, man. I know Joe, he wasn't that dude that he claimed, you know, he is right now. I know he had to be a little wild in college, man. Look here, man. Just talk to me, man. He ain't here, okay? He ain't here. You know what it is. You know I love your wife, man. I love your wife. So I ain't going to - Yes. Yes. That was back in the day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I still love him, man. I don't want him to jump on me when I see him. But, man, Joe was a hell of a player. I'm talking about one of the best players, athletes we've ever seen, right?

24:11For him to come in there as quarterback and then to him to make a decision to move over corner and went over there and balled and was better than everybody else on our defense. It was unbelievable, right? So, Joe, you know how I feel about you, boy, man. You're an unbelievable player, man. Thank you. You deserve it, bro, because you was that dude. That's for sure. We got lucky to steal you from Cleveland, because when it happened, I never... Wow, Tex and Joe, I... Instantly. Yeah, me too. He was the first person to hit me up, Pounce. Soon as I got released from the Browns, I looked at my phone.

24:40He was like this, yeah, bro, we need you. Like, get over here. I'm like, yes! You already know Coach Tonle was going to sign. He wanted you, man. You went too high for him. He never had a seventh overall. Oh, he came a hollering at his pro day. He was like, you're going to be off the board before I get there. A hundred percent, bro. A hundred percent. Debo, how life is, man. I know everybody don't know, but you did acting, man. You still listening like crazy. You might well get out there and help us out a little bit. Nah, bro. Listen, man. I went out there and tore everything in my body up, man.

25:07Just the thought process of having to adjust to something right now Make me feel like my whole ACL, MCL, BPL, CCL, LL, everybody going all the L. L, L, yeah, yeah, yeah, all the L. Question, Pounce, go. How is your, do you ever get the itch to go back out there and play at all, or are you chilling? You chilling because you look good, my brother. No, I ain't going to lie to you. The only time I ever do, man, is when I'm a football kid because, you know, Mike, my brother's, my little nephew, his son is a quarterback superstar. Awesome, man. We wasn't that good as our little kids, so hopefully he keeps his head on and keeps balling.

25:39But when you get proud of them and see how the kids are and, you know, how much they compete now, them turning 13 years old. Yeah. Yeah. It makes you miss that part, man. You giving back to the youth part. But then they challenge you to now. Right. So, yeah, they're showing what it is. So that that part, I will say what I do miss more than anything, man, doing this right here with y 'all. I mean, you know, the camaraderie. Yes, that's what I tell people. Yeah. People don't understand that part of it. Right. Because when you leave outside the brotherhood and go to reality, man, life's a shocker.

26:03Right. You're trying to sit and sit at the baseball game and figuring out what's going to be next. I mean, same thing with everybody who leaves out of it, no matter how much success you have or money you have. Man, the thing is a real, real shocker. There's no one's there walking you to the back door of the office anymore. The doctors and no one's getting up to get, you know what I mean? Your schedule. Your own schedule. You know what I mean? Yes. I mean, Debo's probably still getting it. I ain't gonna lie to Pittsburgh. He's still in Pittsburgh. He's still in Pittsburgh. That's why I ain't go nowhere, man.

26:29They talking about, hey, man, why are you standing? Why are you standing in Pittsburgh, man? What's there? I say, listen, I'm only an hour and a half from the crib, which means I'm close enough to get there if I need to. And I'm still close enough for them to get to me. But you can't just pop up out of nowhere up on me. No, no. On top of that, I don't have to wait for much of anything. No. The doctor, all that. Hey, listen. Ain't nobody stopping you anyway. When your big ass walk in, ain't nobody. You ain't lying. For real, for real. Hey, man, look here. You're right, though, D-Bo. You're right, though, bro.

27:01So having that little distance away from the family a little bit, they already got a question, you know, to get up in the car and got to drive down there and hang out for three hours a little bit differently for me and Mike. But we do have a ranch right there in the middle, so we kind of got our little compound that we can all meet up at and hang out together. But, man, to have the whole family down here at the football, man, you get – as long as all us play, y 'all understand, man. Every single game we have, you know, 30 people at the house, and, you know, at some point you just want a little peace and privacy.

27:25So I think we're more chased now than anything. Okay. Look here, brother. you came in 2010. That was the year we ended up going to the Super Bowl in Green Bay. That was basically, you know, the last chance we got of, you know, winning a Super Bowl. I want you to tell Joe, you know, what it was like coming from a winning college team and then going to a winning NFL franchise. You know what I mean? I'm not going to lie to y 'all, man. It was crazy. To hop off that bus the first time, you know, to pull up into the locker room and then see who was all in there. And I'm like, dang, like, You know, you get drafted to that team and you see the roster, man.

28:02You know, Debo's there, Troy Palomalu, you know, Keith Ham, all the boys. He's just, you know, all our offensive guy, he's, you know, all the line. You know, Matt Starks was there, you know, played at Florida right before we did. You know what I mean? And to go there and just adapt to that environment, it was tough. And then we went to, Joe, you know, we was old CBA, so, you know, them two-a-day practices. Yeah. We only had one year and Debo probably had, you know, 25 years of it. I'm just telling you right now, them first practices in the morning, you know we were just shells, man. It felt like...

28:31No joke. They don't know what that shell is, man. Man, boy, the shell is small. It has a helmet, bro, and the bottoms of your shorts. Like, that's real. Going to the ground. Nobody's hitting each other in the legs anyway. We hit the bum. Man, come on, bro. So that's what I'm trying to say. So to go through that, bro, and then, you know, bro, all of us had a little, you know, a little chip on our shoulder, a little cognizance, because, bro, we came from the University of Florida, right? Just come from a championship team, you know. Yes, sir. You know, we had this prestige behind us, you know, the first round draft pick part.

29:01And I'm just telling you, boy, them first practices were tough. And I'm out there. I called Mike out there. I said, boy, hey, I ain't gonna lie to you. We got a lot of free time, but boy, every day you got to bring it. Because it don't matter. I tell people all the time, like, man, you're looking at the first team guys, but man, the second team and the third team guys, they're still in the NFL. And them guys could be starters. You know what I mean? Now, don't get me wrong. Not all of them, right? Now, some people out there, whenever a scout team, we out there abusing them. You get what I'm saying?

29:22Man, some of them dudes, man, you know that, man, the reason why he's there is because his position, his money played into it. So you start to learn that process, but, man, you got to adapt to it. And if you ain't ready as an offensive lineman, defensive lineman, now, Joe, y 'all might have a little bit – y 'all be tagging up and I'll touch it. Yeah, trying to, you know, all that. Man, there's war every day. And I'm telling you, I used to tell Mike on Wednesday, because we always – Debo is one of them dudes where I looked up to it. I know he knows it because, man, every time I try to beat him to the weight room every single time, I always, like, I watched how he prepared for football, bro.

29:52And he don't get enough credit for it. And I know he gets a lot of credit for how he handled his body and all that, took care of the body. But the real thing was how feared he was and how every single day he had a preparation plan. On Wednesdays, it was all bull rushing. I'm telling you right now, you're going to have a headache. And I'm telling you, it's going to be tough stopping that thing all the way back to the quarterback. On Thursdays, arm bar. I done seen dudes screaming, yelling to get out that thing. So he just had a different preparation. And when you've seen it and watched as a player that's trying to be great and Chase what he had, man, you just loved it, right?

30:21And you just admired it from a distance because he didn't talk to a lot of people. You know them conversations when he did. Now, that's why I'm saying that. I'm laughing out because you know what I'm talking about. Them conversations in the locker room, bro, that was probably what? Five words? But you knew it was all love. He gave you five words, but it was all love. That's for sure. For sure, for sure. Look here, man. I don't think people understand, especially when you get into this game and you had a success that you had, especially getting into the first year and going to the Super Bowl. and in that process going through the rest of your career, how difficult was that to not get back to that pinnacle and had that opportunity to win another championship?

30:59Because a lot of people don't understand, especially when you come into it like you did, how hard it is to get there. And you think you're just going to be right back there next year. Man, me and Mike have them conversations all the time. And it's crazy because I used to always call after whenever, you know, we made it our rookie year. I'm just like, man, I don't get it. Like this was easy. You know what I mean? But then when I look back on it and knowing the team that we had, the players, you know, the, you know, the timing that we had, it was the hardest thing. Everything hurts inside because you're just like, you somewhat take advantage of the moment.

31:27Right. You're just like, dang, I'm seeing all y 'all boys in there, you know, crying and not understanding the way we're at right now. And then to never, ever get back to it and to chase that your whole entire career. Because all the other accolades, don't get me wrong, they're cool. And, you know, a lot of, you know, team success brings individual success. But, you know, I've always won a championship on every single level. So that's what I'm about to say. Yeah, so the walk away with it on that part, Joe, you probably feel the same as that way. You know what I mean? So it's just – it's a weird feeling left inside.

31:53You just – that's why I'm such a big fan of, you know, the Steelers not. Because, hell, I'm chasing that ring, too. If we win another – Come on. I'm getting me a ring, Joe. I'm paying for you. You deserve it. You did 11 straight. I ain't going to lie to you. Hey, man, your last game in – what was that? 2020, they got the picture of you and Ben and y 'all sitting on the bench after the loss in the wild card game to the Browns. And, you know, that's one of the things that fans look at and they're like, yo, man, that's just, you know, it's a real touching moment. And it's kind of heartbreaking for a lot of fans, you know, probably made a couple people cry.

32:36What did you know before that game? Did you know before that game, like already, like they do with Aaron Rodgers, like, yo, this is going to be his last year? And, you know, how difficult was that to not be able to get to that pinnacle, that peak, and give him that walk-off that, you know, you felt like he deserved? I don't think at the time I knew, but after the game and just the disappointment of it, you know, for me, and that's why I tell people all the time, like the accolades, you know, the amount of success that you have, none of that matters, right? You can get all the way to year 11 and everyone's this perfect player.

33:10And then, you know, you know, you have a player, you know, have a game that where it's just unacceptable and you're in your view of things like, right. Us as players, like there's certain things that you do is just like, having that snap was unacceptable. I've never ever in my life had it. You know what I mean? So like, was it a shocker to me? Hell yeah, but it was so much stuff going on that year, the whole pandemic and, you know, us getting tested every day and me being an older player and just, it just was so outside of my, my day-to-day norm. Right. And I think you get it as an older player, like as all of us do, you get set in your way sometimes and you get a little stubborn with certain things.

33:40And, you know, you kind of want things to roll your way. And when it doesn't, it just it plays his mind boggle with you. So I think more than anything, it was just beat down from that part of it. But the walk off and then, you know, my brother had to go. We found out he had to get full hit replacement. And I'm just like, God, why is all this stuff hitting me right now? You know, I didn't have been for the year, you know, the pandemic. And I lost my workout partner in year 11. You know, I mean, you know how hard that is. to go back there and, you know, try sprints and, you know, hit the weight room at, you know, 530 in the morning, every single morning and, you know, go back for, you know, the second workout and do all the training and stretching.

34:09I'm just like, boy, this is tough to do alone. And I'd look back at it too. And then, you know, y 'all all know that I got three daughters. Yeah. I'm just like, man, they're all getting old. They're getting older now. And I just, you know, you feel like there's part where you're missing too much. Right. I had my youngest daughter very young. So for her, she's doing all this traveling stuff. And it just hit me one day because she called me like, dang, I don't want to come to the game. I'm just like, dang, why? I mean, like, what the heck? That's crazy. This is our little thing that we've always been doing.

34:37And she's like, well, my friends want to hang out this weekend. I sat back and it just hit me. I'm just like, dang, I was that same kid. You get to the point where life ain't just, don't get me wrong, it's always about your parents. You're their role model. Sure. They're trying to find their lane, right? They want to make sure that they have their next little error or whatever, you know, outside of being going home every day and seeing their parents. So once I started to see that part, I'm just like, am I being selfish? Am I, you know, do I appreciate everything that we did and, you know, the path that we've been on?

35:03And then you're looking at this somewhat as you get older, you look at the trajectory of what the team was and the team was getting younger. And were we really at the point where we could really like go out there and, you know, compete for another championship? And I know that Ben wanted me to come back and he wanted the whole, you know, fair rough. Yeah. Did you think about coming back? Hell yeah, I did. And, you know, that was one of the hardest thing ever to, you know, to answer to that. Because I think, you know, good to go, Mr. Rooney. You know, they wanted to extend me. You know, I had a one year, like nine million dollars left on my contract.

35:28And I'm just like to call him and put dead weight on the team. And, you know, all that, you know, I know, you know, being in the NFLPA, what the cap and all that stuff means to my part. So the hardest thing whenever I call Mr. Rooney, because that's the first person I called. And whenever he said, man, stop talking, like whatever you want to do, I'm a supporter. it and it's just like all this damn like every all the weight came on my shoulder i'm just like man i'm calling everybody at this point i can call ben you know i called ben last because i already knew he was going to be the one person that really tried to be the hardest yeah right to try to get you to try to slay you yeah hey i understand approval for everybody else i'm just like like i know this is tough and i hate it man you because trust me i want to but bro like and i i told him i was like bro i was a gladiator you know i mean i just at at a certain point man Now you take too many blade cuts and you, you know, no matter what number, we could be Marcus Aurelius, you know, you think you keep doing it, you just can't.

36:16I mean, so, and plus us, all of us being as good as players that we were, you don't never want to go out there and just leave some film on there that you can't accept. Not what everyone else would be. And then everyone else would be like, oh, he came older player. And yeah, I get all that. You know, that you slow down a little bit and, you know, maybe you got to, you know, reconfigure your game out and stuff like that. And like the block and all that other stuff. but I couldn't sleep with myself knowing I would go out there and someone could just dominate me. I just couldn't do it. I walked away peacefully, you know, right.

36:46And, you know, just happy whenever, you know, everyone that was in the corner that I thought, you know, would question it was a behind. Yeah. Yeah. I went I went through that same thing in 2013. I retired in 13. And then, you know, I was feeling good. I ain't going to lie to you. I was like, yo, I'm good. You know, it is what it is. And I was living. I thought I was living pretty good. I was feeling good. And then I get the call from Kiesel. Four o 'clock in the morning, like, what you doing? I know you're going to the gym. I'm like, yeah, I'm about to hit the gym. He's like, no, you got to come back.

37:15We need you back. He said, they're about to call you. I said, bro, I'm not coming back. I said, I'm good. I'm happy where I'm at. I said, I'm good, bro. I ain't coming back. Then I got a call from Troy. Ooh. Yeah. Dang. Ooh. Then I got a call from Ike. fresh out of surgery ah man not the home i said i said hey i'll talk to my boys i said my boys allow me to come back i'll come back talk to my boys i'm like hey i get a chance to come back and play it warning the following song has been rated dangerously catchy and may not be suitable for grown-ups. Being in Pittsburgh, y 'all want me to do it because I wasn't going to let them start playing contact football until I was able to be there to see to make sure they were being taught correctly.

40:33Yeah. And they were like, yeah, yeah, we want you to come back. And I'm like, damn. You know? You didn't expect that. So I went, right, dude. So I went back, you know, and then when I went back into it, you know, obviously I fell back in love with it, ended up signing, you know, another few years, you know, after that. But I understand that process of feeling like you don't want to let your brothers down. You know, you couldn't. I ain't gonna lie to you. You're you're such a staple that your time would have been cut way too short. People would have questioned everything if you had to walk away.

41:04You had too much in the tank. I ain't gonna lie to you. like just because what you brought to the it's crazy because unless you was there people don't understand it like what you brought to the you know pittsburgh the defense and what the you know the stigma is still to today what alamalu brought there what you guys did not you know that that 08 you know championship and what the defense was then it would have been crazy for you to walk away like it would have been like one of them things you know like andrew uh andrew luck walking away you know i mean for you walk away at football that time it would have been the same type of thing for the nfl man how could someone so dominant at the time because i have 2013 when you're knocking people out when you get yes you came back you came back with you know a million dollars in the NFL for hitting people so no man that was they was they was finding me sitting 10 11 12 13 they stopped I ain't gonna lie they stopped finding me in in in 13 they stopped finding me in 13 I think it might have been towards the end of actually maybe towards the end of 12 I'll say this I'll say this this is it was a conversation and the conversation was along the lines of me not talking about the commission I said cool I say I say if he don't I quote quote I said if he don't fuck with me I won't fuck with him and I know he didn't and I didn't and they didn't mess with me bro I ain't gonna lie to you I had two plays where I'm like oh they gonna get me they gonna get me they gonna find me on that I went to rip a ball out and I missed the ball on the way out, but I caught dude's helmet.

42:34Took the whole helmet off. Took the whole helmet off. Took the whole helmet off. I ain't get nothing. You paid him. No, I didn't get nothing. I ain't get mail. I know what's going on right now. What, you paid on it to the table? You in the game home, boy? No, I ain't get mail. They scared. They scared of him. That's what it is. Damn, y 'all crazy. Mama Harrison must have called in. I know what happened. Somebody made a call. I know it going down. I just talked to Roger at the draft this year, man. Me and him, cool. We got along, man. I done accepted my Lord and Savior, man. We good. My whole mentality done changed, bro.

43:06Thank you, man. I know you've been watching. You've been watching any of the preseason with the O-line for the Steelers and all that? Yeah, man. I actually, I like the trajectory. And I hate to say this, man, sometimes, but, man, I ain't going to lie to you. You see them boys blocking Big Dexter this past weekend? Yes. I'm just telling you, like, man, for them boys to go out there and play that well against, you know, a player like that in that caliber, that just shows you that we're heading in the right direction. Now, are we perfect? Hey, man. That's something I was going to ask you, too, is like, what do you think of that whole turnaround?

43:34Because I know they switched the whole right side of the offensive line, especially going from what we were in the preseason to what we ended up showing this past week. how much of that I would say

43:52communication that working with the same guy that's on your left, you're right how much of that actually affects what y 'all are able to do on the line? It's a big time factor in it. That's why when the kid Broderick just said it, for him to switch up because I mean, I get you right there on the first play of the game and everything's running smoothly but the heat of the moment where you're tired, play nine you're out there going against one of the best players and now you have to go to the right side and now you're thinking of your calls and your slides and you know the protective thing man it's a i don't care what anyone says professionally or not it's hard to do it's like even even at your older level that you plan and you switching to the other side man you're at some point you're gonna be like man this is a little bit difficult than what i'm normally used to you know i mean what i'm normally seeing adjustments and everything the player i'm playing next to because sometimes the player you're playing next to is the keyest name because his communication sometimes a little bit faster or him saying the double team or him you know i mean so all that That's plays a huge, huge factor.

44:45But I will say, as having a young offensive line, man, they're looking impressive. For them, you know, I know the one blitz play where Aaron got hit, but, you know, sometimes that's on the QB as well, and making sure the checks and all the picks up is the right way, you know what I mean? Because especially with the younger guys. And I got lucky, man. I came in with Willie Colon, Matt Starks, Kiyotu, you know what I mean? So for me, I'm the young guy, and I'm with all the older veterans. So whenever – if they messed up, it was a really, really issue. You know what I mean? If I was the younger guy and did it, you know, I took a little bit of heat, but it was more on them not, you know, helping the guy part, helping me through it, you know what I mean?

45:15Mm-hmm. Yeah, our first-round draft choice, you're talking about Max? Max. That's your – No, no, I'm talking about when I was there with Max Stark. No, no, no, I'm saying I'm talking about our first-round draft pick on that switch on that right side, and they finally put him in there. It was a lot of people that was giving flack because they selected him in the first round, you know, picked him as a tackle. They thought that, you know, we should have did something else. Looking back on that now, that pick – And actually, I think he was the second greatest high pass blocker last week. The craziest part.

45:48Of the whole NFL. You're saying that, and I'm telling you right now, because I wanted that receiver very, very bad. You know, obviously, because we all try to play general manager and owner of the team when the draft comes. But you're right, man. I didn't know enough of the kid. I didn't see him. But, man, so I was really shocked. I wasn't. Yeah, to go watch. Yeah, see, you probably – you live in Pittsburgh. Hey, hey, listen, listen. Yeah, he and the bird. So, Ponce, Hines Ward is a coach over there at Arizona State. And I talked to Hines. And Hines was like, yo, he was like, he a stealer, dude.

46:19He was like, and he's young. He's like, dude, he's only been playing football itself, I think he said, four or five years. Oh, that's amazing. Like, yeah. And he's willing to work. He can be coached hard. He wants to be coached hard. He's like, dude, he's everything. And he was like, the upside, dude, is just unbelievable. Yeah, he got good being, too. I can tell his pass rush looked amazing. For him to hold his hands like that and not to punch too early. I've seen some of the people. I'm like, dang, okay. You know what? He kind of got to figure it out a little bit. Young dudes, the first thing they want to do is get their hands out there to try and keep them away.

46:50Nah, give me that hand because what I'm going to do, I'm going to catch that wrist and I'm going to turn it. I'm going to start using it against you. Yes. You remember what I told you? Yeah. You can talk about it right now. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Yeah. I go, I slap. I slap to rip. and as I slap the rip, I try and catch that wrist. So if I can catch that wrist, I now can hook here. And as I go around the corner to make him turn, I'll twist his wrist like that, and that's when they start hollering. Yeah, Villanueva. I mean, I think he had to get the elbow surgery right out there, get the elbow cleaned up.

47:24Remember you? Ah, yes. Bro, I did not do that to him. He didn't cry. Yep, tell him about the old teammate. Oh, yeah, 100%. I did not do that to him, bro. You did, 100%. And you lifted him up one time and drove him all the way to the ground. Remember that? You know, I'll get on here and tell you too. No, I told Al, I told Al, I said, Al, I'm going to board rush you every day today. I said, I'm going to just stop me. And I don't know if he didn't believe it or not. No, he didn't. He didn't. And he definitely felt it. Cause boy, you, you was talking about all the time at porch talk. And all y 'all know what I'm talking about.

47:57We hung out on Thursday. Yes. Thank you. So Pounce, Pounce, as, as, as, as both being both of our teammates, you was teammates with me in Florida and teammates with me in Pittsburgh. You was teammates with this wild man right here. Which one of us is wilder? Me or Debo? Joe, I told you I love your wife, man. Hey, thank you. Miss Hayden, I love you. I love you. I love you, Miss Hayden. I love you. I'm going to go with James Harrison, man. He a little bit more wilder, man. Oh, my God. I can't say that. Joe, I was at the win. Hey, Joe, Debo, I was in the win, man. I was in the win, man. We go way back, Pounce.

48:35Day to days, Pounce. That's what I'm talking about. You know how we do. You know how we do. We here with it, Pounce. We locked in. Yeah, you know how we get down with the Hayden family. Yes, sir. Hey, you know the craziest part? Everybody always call, you know our company's called JF Hayden. Yes. Everyone's like, man, did y 'all name this after Joe? Pounce. I see why y 'all think that, but it's the Hayden name going. Look, we starting to look more and more alike, Pounce. Once you lost the weight, we looking, but we like, we - How much you weighing now, bro, Pounce? Hey, 220, but I'm hitting like 400.

49:07I know I'm hitting like 400, for sure. Yeah. Look at pounds. You look great, my brother. I got a question. Was you keeping on the weight when you was playing? Because it was mandatory. Like, you had to eat to stay, to keep your weight up? Bro, D-Bow, no, I never made weight. My last four or five years, I was weighing 285, you know, on weigh-ins. And, you know, me and Gi had such a great relationship, you know, me in the front office. Oh, for sure. He used to always say something to me, too, like, pounds. I'm like, hey, until that film look different, we'll holler at each other. Yeah, what it look like.

49:37Still, make sure you put on that paper I'm 305. Hey, I ain't going to lie to you, bro. I didn't even have a weight scale thing that they had me at. Man, people are clear to you, boy. Hell, man. They only talk back to you when you talk to them, bro. Real talk. Yes, Debo. Nobody's going to say anything first. Joe, Joe, I was 286 in the Super Bowl we won. Were you waiting for me? At run back, I was 286. Woodley was 306. Or 302. Woodley was 302. Woodley was fat, though, boy. Yeah, bro. He was. Boy, now I got to go back and look at that film, too. I'm going to see the picture, too. I'm going to go look at that film and see how big he was.

50:17Good thing you played in that game. You were 302. For real, bro. For real, for real. How have everything else been with y 'all, boys, man? Tell me what's new in life, man. Damn. I don't get to talk. No, man, when you run a full-time alcohol company, there's in 28 different states now, bro. I'm so cool. Yeah, man. Talk to him. That's all I'm going to ask you about, bro. Tell us about the team. Tell him about the haters. And then the process of where you at now. So, man, we got very, very lucky and blessed, man. We started the company during the pandemic. Obviously, everyone went home, became mixologists and bartenders.

50:46So, for us, sales were doing unbelievable. We got very, very lucky just growing out the company. Most people pick the base spirit side of things, right? So the vodka, the tequila, the rum, the gin, we pick the secondary spirit. So we're the first, you know, and I hate to even say these words, you know, celebrity or, you know, whatever that fake aspect is. Because, bro, me and Mike minimize that, right? Man, we don't care what we made in our life or what we did in our life. Like, everyone's the exact same. Don't get me wrong. Like, we might have some cooler stuff. And, yeah, we got a ranch that's amazing and all this other.

51:14But people are the exact same. Come on, pal. Good people are good people. Heck, yeah, bro. You get out there and you kind of. And what we learned the most, Joe, at Florida was us being able to communicate, right? Like us get out of the football world and, you know, make sure that you had relationships. And sometimes, man, just calling a football coach and hanging out with the football side of things. Don't get me wrong. It's what made us through the men we are today. But it's to the men you're in afterlife, right? The reality side of things. But what it does is get you up, get you in the front door, you know, to show the people that you're a good person, you know, the relationship part of things.

51:42But yes, we pick the secondary spirit part of things. So if y 'all know, y 'all probably know, like Kalul or Rum Chata, we have that same type of brain, you know, the cordial side, the liqueur, that's 20 percent alcohol that you have to mix with, you know, a base spirit to make a cocktail. we have a espresso liqueur a lychee liqueur a mango liqueur a key lime pie that uh yeah yeah a couple of yeah we also do some cool stuff with artists damn i'm hungry yeah right but our key lime pie you go anywhere in the keys you have a key lime margarita key lime colada all the type of different drinks but uh for us to be in 28 different states to have the national accounts we did the presence that we have right now we have uh we do have the largest cordial brand in the united states of america right now so we take a lot of pride okay cordial brands yeah that's And to be tatted from neck to toe and to walk in, you know, to be at some of the tables we're sitting at.

52:29It's a cool little thing to be a part of, right? To see these bigger companies wanting to partner up with us, you know, do cocktail programs for, you know, bigger, you know, bigger companies around the U.S. But our company, we got brought in by the Hard Rock Nationwide, right? So every single cafe, live, casino and hotel picked up JF Hayden's and made it a brand that grew overnight. Okay. But yeah, now we probably have six national partners. We finished off last year with our 30 ,000 cases. We're on track to do 42 ,000 cases this year. Okay. Cool. I know y 'all got the kids, so if y 'all go to Halloween Horror Nights, and I know y 'all are the kids can't drink, but if y 'all go there, we make the can RTDs for Halloween Horror Nights, both in Orlando and California.

53:08It used to be called Cursed Cranberry the first two years. This year, it's called Craniac Mix. So it's a strawberry blood orange RTD. but then we also do the Blachian Fire Whiskey for Harry Potter's World, both in Orlando, California so we strategically grew the company the right way, making sure we're having the right partners and you understand that if you get out there, bro, and just like how we did in football if you assert yourself, just like how well y 'all's podcast is doing, y 'all probably spend a lot of time, you know, thinking of creative things and bringing the people on, you could be successful.

53:36Now, if you think someone's just going to open up the door and hand you things, man, you can't. Nope, nope, nope, nope. Because all of that work you put in to get where you at to get to the league, it's the same type of thing, but it's just different avenues, you know what I'm saying? Don't get me wrong, is it hard work, bro? Is it ups and downs? Absolutely, man, but you start to see that man, the downs, man, help you fight for the ups, you know what I mean? 1000%. And also the downs too, bro, it also shows you, man, that life is reality, right? You got to learn different ways of, you know, pitching things or innovating at, you know, things that have people back drinking or, you know, events or what things you really allocate money to or what person you're going to hire because every person that you hire brings either a stain to the company or brings glory to the company.

54:18Every day you're getting better, you're getting worse. You're not staying the same. Never. You can never stay the same. That's just running in place. Don't nobody want to do that right there. Hey, look here, man. You paying any attention to the Joey Porter situation? Oh, man. Oh, you're talking about the Junior. Yes. You got to say Junior. I said Joey Porter. I thought you were talking about Peezy. Yeah, yeah, I thought you were talking about Peezy. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Little Peezy. Little Peezy. I call him Little Big Peezy. Little Big Peezy. Yeah, right, right. We're going to talk. But I will say, man, I'm a little shocked.

54:56Honestly, I thought he would get paid. Whenever you have a generation of talent like how he is and the way he – what he brings, not just to himself as a player, but the guys around him, right? Man, when you have a player out there that's aggressive with guys, making tackles and blocking, you know, breaking up passes, and, you know, get intercepting the ball. I don't know how to really explain it, but it's like these football guys. It just makes the other players around you play better. So I will say that I don't know what's going on internally or, you know, why the whole thing didn't happen, but, man, he's one of them players that I would try my hardest to make sure that you kept around and make sure that, you know, for the next, you know, for the future.

55:32And I get sometimes, man, things get a little – you know how it is, man. Things get weird and things get personal. But sometimes as I got older, things didn't get personal to me, right? Like, it just, you understand business. And you start to see, like, I explain this all the time to people because just like with Coach Meyer at University of Florida, when I was there, did I like him? Did I respect him? Did I appreciate who he was? Hell yeah. But when I left out at University of Florida, I fell in love. And I just understood that, man, he was doing stuff to us to make us men, you know what I mean?

55:57To help us grow up faster because he was already at that point. He already seen, you know, that path before. The line. Yeah, so I kind of, like, you know, relate things back to that. But, man, I just, sometimes I just, you know, I just wish, you know, guys like that and such great players, you know, sometimes it brings a negative impact to the team when you don't pay them right away. You know, now it's just, you know, the outside chatter becomes a conversation when it shouldn't be. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, man, listen. Y 'all both was drafted in the first round, okay? I don't know nothing about that being in the first round.

56:27Shit, I don't know nothing about drafted. You don't know about drafted. Yeah, I don't know nothing about it. Hey, I don't know NATO. NATO don't know me. I thought you were talking about NATO Jenkins. You don't know NATO Jenkins? Oh, I was talking about NATO. I don't know, they don't need them. Look here. Hey man, what was that like? What did y 'all do to celebrate, man? Joe, what did you do? I was out. I was in New York. I was in New York. I walked across the stage with the family. After that, hit the 40-40 club with the family. And then after that, I left the family and went to the greenhouse with, you know what I'm saying?

57:00Me, Stan Braff, all the boys. We hit the town. Not the greenhouse. We hit the greenhouse. Yeah man. It was a good time. He went with all his homeboys, too. Yeah, we did. Yeah. But for me, I ain't had the luxury of Joe. I knew I was going to be drafted high, but Joe was a top five. They sent him. Yeah, he was top five. So I chose to do my party at the house in Lakeland. So ESPN came down there, and I had a block. Yes. I had 350 people out there. The police came and shut it down. Oh, OK. Yeah, you know how we get down in Lakeland, man. I know how you get down in Lakeland. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

57:36Polk County. I ain't gonna say to the unit. You get a permit for that? Nah. He run the city. Hey, hey, tatted up the way we was. And at the time, don't get me wrong, we did some cool stuff back in Lakeland, but we didn't get back like the way we did now. You know what I mean? So yeah, Grady Judge said, man, he sent the whole army over there. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. It was crazy.
