In short
Steelers offseason contract news (Nick Herbig and Darnell Washington extensions), plus NBA Finals Game 1 reaction and broader NFL roster/coach talk.
Guests/hosts
Host James “D-Boy” Harrison and co-host Joe Hayden (no other guests named in the provided transcript).
Key claims
- Steelers made a strong move by signing Nick Herbig to a 5-year, $104M deal (about $41M+ guaranteed), arguing his production supports it despite limited snaps behind TJ Watt/Alex Highsmith.
- Steelers also extended Darnell Washington 4 years, $42M, calling him a dual-threat (blocking and receiving) and praising his physical play.
- NBA: Knicks vs Spurs Game 1—Knicks’ physical defense and Carl Anthony Towns’ matchup vs Wembanyama are cited; Spurs need De’Aaron Fox to perform and to get Dylan Harper more minutes.
Notable examples
- Herbig vs Verse stat comparisons (sacks, forced fumbles, Pro Bowls).
- Washington “laid down” a 300-pound defender on a block; A-Rod praises Washington’s growth and detail/conditioning.
- Spurs fans running onto the court; Dylan Harper’s scoring/limited fourth-quarter minutes.

5:03Welcome back to this episode of D-Boy Joe. I'm your host, James D-Boy Harrison, and I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your podcast. Hey, how you doing today, Joe?
5:20James Harrison:I'm doing lovely, brother D-Boy. I'm doing lovely. It was great basketball. It was what I told you it was going to be. I told you. Hey, bro, I ain't going to lie to you. I think we might be cooked. I think we might be cooked. Oh, snap. You go. I think we might be cooked. You quick to react. Hey, I'm quick to react. And listen, man, I told you, man, listen. Listen. When I seen Wembley, the one game where they put them bodies on him, that boy was exhausted. Yes. They got two seven-footers over there, man. That's about anywhere from 250 to 265, man. They got some weight on him. Put that body on him, man.
5:58James Harrison:They got some weight on him. Carl Anthony Towns and Mitchell. Yes, man. Cat got what, what, he about 255, 265, somewhere around here. At least. At least. Okay, then you got the other boy, Robinson. Mitchell Robinson. He about 250, 255, something like that. You know, maybe 260. Hey, man, Wim is 7 '4". Yes. 230, bruh. That's victim weight, bruh. He's 215. He's 215. Hell, they got the OG. He's 6 '7". He weigh more than him. He's 245. Yeah, OG. OG probably 250, 260. Like, man, we got to get 40 on you, man. I'm scared. I don't want New York to win, man. They can't handle it, man. They going to burn down the whole damn city.
6:43What?
6:43James Harrison:You said the Spurs were going to win in five games. Four-one. You said five games. I said four-one. So that means— I might have been on drugs. You might have been. So right now, are you already switching up your vibe? I might have just got off. I might have just got off him. Let me see how this game go tonight, man. Let me see how this go tonight, man. I just ain't like. And then, you know, like I said, they had them bodies on the man, and he like 6 or 21. Like, man, come on, man. Then they let Brownson go out of control. The same thing I said he wasn't going to be able to do. He did it. See? Debo, I'm so glad that you watched and everything is happening that you thought was going to happen.
7:23James Harrison:Because I was watching the game. I'm going in there expecting it to be a great game. If the Knicks can steal game one, I'm thinking now, because it's going game. I'm thinking it's going seven games. I'm thinking it's going to be a series. The Spurs, like you said, the Alien, Castle, Chad Penny, my young bulls from San Antonio. Are they ready? Went out there, and the Knicks showed me. Carl Anthony Towns. Shout out Carl Anthony Towns. For sure. Because he was the main one being able to, if he can guard Wimby, put that body on him. Yes. You know what I'm saying? And then on the offensive side, don't just settle for threes.
7:59James Harrison:Attack. He was going at one, be trying to blow doors. You know what I'm saying? Trying to get layups. Being aggressive. 18 points. 12 boards. Only shot two trade balls. If Carl Hattie Towns out there settling for threes, that's what the Spurs want. Spurs couldn't hear the three to save their life, bro. Bro, listen. Josh Hart. Do you see him out there? He only had three points. 15 boards. Six assists. Four steals. He running all around doing what he got to do, not shooting. You know what I'm saying? Kicking it to everybody they need. Knicks looked good. Yeah, dude. Spurs. Spurs. But that's what I'm saying.
8:35James Harrison:It's going to be a series because the Spurs still De 'Aaron Fox is one of the main things. If they let them get this game tonight, man, go ahead and chalk it up, man. If they get this game tonight. It's a must win for the Spurs, man. It's a must win 1 ,000%. It's a must win, man. Y 'all, listen, bro. Listen. This is what the Spurs got to do. Let me give you some hints to what the Spurs got to do. You got to watch. De 'Aaron Fox has to ball out and or get him out of there a little bit earlier and get Dylan Harper in there. Dylan Harper is the number two pick. He's playing. He's a rookie this year, D-Bo.
9:07James Harrison:He's playing like a vet, like a crafty five-year vet. He's going to be one of the max players in the league in the future, bro. So, Dylan Harper has 16 points. He only played three minutes in the fourth. They had De 'Aaron Fox in there. Love De 'Aaron Fox. He's max. He's a baller. But he went three for 13 and had seven points and played 11 minutes in the fourth. If you're going to be doing that, we got to have Dylan Harper. Get him in there. He's getting a bucket. He is getting a bucket for you. So that's what's going to have to do that. Man, they got to protect home court, period, man. It's a must win.
9:40Y 'all can't even keep the damn fans off the damn court, man. You had the fans running home court. Man, look at this right here, man. With the trash selfie. With the trash selfie.
9:55James Harrison:I don't promote this. Attention! Attention! You see? You see? You see? Get him out of here. Hey. I saw a cowboy hat fan. He went and got beat up. Man for life. Man for life. I like it. Come on, man. I like it. Man for life from the whole NBA. Come on, man. Get out of the way. That's how you do it. Get out the way, man. Get them out the way so that you know the next time somebody come and do this, they banning you for life. So if that's good for you right there to get banned for life and you're willing to go out there and do it, go ahead, go out there and do it. But I promise you this, the next person, it's going to be an added charge to that ban for life.
10:40James Harrison:Yeah, man. That's something like criminal trespassing when you run up out there now. Yeah, for sure. When I slammed that Browns player, if I knew what I found out after that that was criminal trespassing and whatever I did to him, he ain't had no right. I would have threw that arm behind his back. Yeah, you would have had him screaming for mercy. I'd have him up there locked up like the police did. I'd have had my cleat on his forehead. Oh, Lord. See, he did go. I know, for sure. D-boy, you a wild man. You a wild man. Stay off the field, man. People got jobs to do. We out here working. People at work.
11:21Keep off the field, bro. Keep off the field. Keep off the court, man. It's even a smaller area. You know what I'm saying? Yes, sir. Like, it's not, it can't be that hard. Like, what are we talking about, man? It's going to be good ball. Let's go NBA. Get your security up, man. And see, you know what should have happened? You should have got scared and nervous at the same time and started just, bop, bop, give him a couple, give him a quick two-piece. Who? I ain't know if he coming out there to take a pill. I don't know what he doing. He might have something in his hand. He might. Who knows? I feel you.
11:53Like anybody. Bink, bink. Quick two will sit him down. Quick two.
12:00James Harrison:Quick two. Now you sitting in jail and you banned for life. Checking the energy. Hold on. I didn't know what was going on. Bop, bop. You know what I'm saying? Lips, woe, eye black. Okay. Woo-hoo. There you go. Take that with you. They need to have somebody like a. Who the one bodyguard? He cold. He on soccer. What's his name? A messy bodyguard. Yes! Yes! Get him! I like him. He gonna come through there. Silent assassin. Silent assassin. He gonna come through there. You don't see him, he see you. Well, I see him, but he see everything going on. Hey, no, he just sit... Listen, they too busy watching the game.
12:32Security up there watching the game. That's all they doing. Enjoying the game. Hey, you know I got courtside seats tonight. What you mean? Looking up at the screen. I'm working the game.
12:39James Harrison:They looking up at the screen. I'm like, bro, come on, man. That's all they doing, Joe. That's all they doing, Joe. How you get all the way across without somebody? Like, somebody's supposed to be out there. Them boys got - Who was chasing him? They ain't had nothing to it. Security get the feeling like they got the best seats in the house. No question. They know they got the best seats in the house. Ain't nobody going to do nothing stupid out here. They ain't going to run out here, man. Everybody chilling. Let me make like I'm looking around every now and then, and then I'm going, make sure I'm watching this game for the other 45 minutes of the hour.
13:08Yes. You know what I'm saying?
13:09James Harrison:They're rooting. That's it. That's it. Only time they really checking is at halftime. Make sure nobody - Or timeout. That's it. Timeout. When they got to run about, when they get that course, they get to run out. Uh-huh. Then now y 'all got to do a little bit of security. That's it. Look here, baby. Let's go on over here to Pittsburgh, man. Let's get it. Because we started cooking now. Oh, man. We started cooking. We started cooking. Us in the chat. We started cooking. You that other team over there. You ain't putting me in? Hell no, not today. You that other team over there. I done seen where you came from, Joe.
13:40Huh? The Steelers, Joe. Where your brown stuff at, Joe? Where your brown stuff at?
13:44James Harrison:I want some basketball stuff today. I want some basketball stuff today because it's a game. It's a game going on. Yeah, I want to see. It's a game tonight. Big game tonight. Put your Steeler helmet on your head then. Big game tonight. Put your Steeler helmet on your head. Show some loyalty. Show something. If we're going to talk Steeler, put your helmet on your head, Joe. Here we go. Because they dropping the bag off. Because they dropping the bag off today. Here we go, man. Here we go, Steeler. Linebacker Nick Herbert to a five-year contract, dude. Hey. He got five-year,$104 million. Okay? Yes, sir.
14:13I think it's like something. I forgot what it's guaranteed. But, Joe. I think about 40-something guaranteed. 41, 45, 42, 47, 51. 41, something like that. Yes, sir, yes, sir. Something like that guaranteed. Yes, sir, yes, sir. Do you like this move for a person that has not had a four-year starting under their belt? I love this move.
14:40James Harrison:God damn it, Joe. Here you go with that love shit. You know, I like it a lot. Okay. You know, Debo, you can't tell me how to feel. I love this move. And this is what happened. You willing to kill somebody over it? All right. No, no, no, no. You're right. You're right. You're right. I like this move a lot. I like this move a lot. Okay, thank you. You got to be willing to go to jail for something. You're right. If you like it, you love it. I'm not going to jail for her getting the 100. But I am happy for her getting his 100. Yes, sir. And that's 1 ,000%. Because just the way that when you draft good players in the fourth round, this is what you would expect and his numbers and his stats this is what i'm saying his numbers and his stats to me in his first three seasons well i would say his last two years similar to jared verse same amount like say jared versus him solo tackles 34 uh uh total tackles 71 for verse 52 for herbic 12 sacks for verse 13 sacks for herb in his last two seasons you know i'm saying five forced fumbles for um for verse seven forced fumbles for herb so you're getting and he went to two pro bowls and these last two years her big didn't get any of those stats he's had 800 snaps her big's had 415 snaps it's not you can't fault her big because he has tj watt in front of him and alex highsmith who both of them signed the extensions which they deserved so he got drafted in his position fourth round he's out there balling getting the snaps that he's getting and producing at a very high level.

They're saying highest paid D-linemen are making, the Edge Rushers are making$50 million a year.
19:18James Harrison:We got TJ Watt making 41. We got Miles making 40. Micah Parsons making$46 million a year. So when we're looking at the number, the average per year, Highsmith at that same time when the Steelers, they're signing their players, and it looks like crazy amounts of money. But when we're looking at your equals or who you're playing against, those guys, it's 16th highest out of rushers. And him, what he's doing with his production, if he were able to, he can be a starter. We can be able to get a first round pick for Herbick. So at the time, looking at the contract, my man just got three years,$150 million from Houston.
19:57James Harrison:Do you know what I'm saying? So when you're looking at$50 million, that's$50 million a year there. Right now, we got him under contract for five years. You add on this additional year that he was going to make$3.4 million,$4 million. So we got Herbick five years under contract for$104 million, which averages around 20.8 years that we have him under our rights. for the next five years. So if he ends up like we expect him to play over this contract, dudes are making$50 million. It's going to go nowhere but up. I'd rather sign him now, have him on lock on the team, and now we have Highsmith with two more years left on his contract at$15 million per year.
20:36James Harrison:He got two for 30, and then we're going to see how that goes. T.J. Watt has two more years of guaranteed money on his deal, $32 million each year. Let's see how T.J. Watt, we love, come out there and ball out. You know what I'm saying? So having Herbic here, you know what I'm saying, for the foreseeable future, being able to know that you're not just going to not have Highsmith, Watt, we don't know what's going to happen in the future. But in this next year or two, I would like to have Watt balling out, seeing what he could do. Highsmith, he's under contract. He's balling out, see what he can do.
21:07James Harrison:And now we have Herbic on the team. He's been balling for these three years, getting his reps on what he can do. And now we have a three man rotation where we got three ballers and he's going to get his reps up. Like, Highsmith's going to be able to get a little bit more rest. Watt's going to still be getting his rest. So it's not like you're going to feel like, no, no, we got three starters in that rotation at linebacker, outside linebacker. It's going to be nice. Let's max these dudes out. Let's ball out. Let's continue to see what's going on for this year because we have them under contract.
Read the full transcript
21:36James Harrison:We don't have to move anything. We're signing our players. We don't have to trade dudes off. Right. That's the big thing. Like, I ain't going to lie. I didn't think. No, I'm not doing that. I didn't think we would get this good a deal in the whole process of it, to be honest. You're looking at, what is it, just under$21 million a year. Yes, Steve. You're saying, oh, that's a lot because he hasn't started. No, that's not a lot. When you look at the league right now, especially right now, hell, average will get you 15 to what, 21, 12? No, 12 to 15, something like that. And then you're talking about where he's at as far as what his numbers is as a starter dude he's he's somewhere above in his 14 16 starts he's somewhere above damn near what it should be closer to 25 27 so this right here is a great great move great deal omar khan is cooking um mike mccarthy is is cooking and as he said in his quote he said he said you can never have enough players especially in the outside linebacker position they're all playmakers he said i'm thrilled to death we have them all they are keeping them all now you have your brand new d coordinator patrick graham and he has nothing he had to handicap him he has everybody there it's all hands on deck now we get to see what it's supposed to look like now we get to see what the pittsburgh stillers defense you know is supposed to look like what we're accustomed to seeing, bro.
23:11Like sitting on top of the NFL, being the most feared defense in the NFL. Okay? Here we go. Where you see those three stars on your schedule, and your head coach say, hey, hey, hey, two 10 straps for this game.
23:27James Harrison:You know it's going to be a bloodbath. This is going to be the most physical, disciplined defense that you're going to face all year. Okay? And no matter what the outcome is, win, lose, or draw, when you're done with this game, you're going to feel that you played the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yep. So, hey, get the cold tubs. Get the cold tubs. Get ready to heal all the knots and bruises and lumps and bruises that we're going to put on your ass after this game is done. Mm-hmm. Period. No. I love it. I love it. I like it a lot. No question. Hey, I like it a whole lot. And here's the crazy thing, too.
24:05What's that? So you're giving him this deal. And like you said, you're talking about a five-year deal. We got this dude for – Until the 2030 season. I am seeing him going above and beyond what this contract has actually paid him. Me too. Because, I mean, I hate to say it, in two years we lose TJ. TJ, it's not going to work. Like you said, the guaranteed money is going then. So now you're looking at a$46 million hit for last year. I think he'll be closer to 34, 35 then. So letting him go, you're talking about a savings of about$36 million when your salary to him would be$46 million. And then you have Sawyer, right, that's behind him.
24:52So he may be the next thing up. And even if he's not, possibly after this year you have Highsmith that you can extend maybe two or three years. you know after this year and he's uh i think he'll be coming up on 30 though but he's a young 30 he's like a 30 like i was he's only six or seven years in at he's seven years in at that time he'll be seven years he's six years six years now yeah he'll be seven years in by that time so you're talking about having then herbert highsmith and then sawyer if everything pans out to where We just keep rolling.
25:31James Harrison:I want to see. I'm excited because Highsmith, like you say, he's under contract. It's all now. You got to play. You got to ball. T.J. Watt knows what it is with his contract. He has two more years on it. It's just the consistency of playing at a high level. I know injuries come and all that stuff happens, but that's why Nick Herbick, we signed you. You're young. You know what I'm saying? That's just how the league is. T.J. White and Highsmith are getting on the older years. So it's a performance base. It's literally the what have you done for me lately. The guaranteed is out of the contract. So it's like perform high.
26:04James Harrison:You're getting paid around solid money, not the highest, but it is because you are a creme de la creme player and we need you to perform at that rate. So I'm loving that we can go into this season having him under contract, everybody under contract. Now it's what does the tape look like? Highsmith, are we balling? Are we staying healthy? I'm praying for the best for both. TJ Watt, balling, are we staying healthy? Because now it's just your best availability. Your best accountability is availability. You got to be out there. And then when you're out there, you're performing at a very high level.
26:35James Harrison:So I know what you're saying with the young dude, Sawyer too. We got him in the cut. So figuring out, he's going to get his little reps and that he's going to be in the Herbic situation where you're going to see your time. When you're out there, ball out when you're out there. So you're looking like, okay, you're deserving more reps. You know what I'm saying? It's Hassan if not. Okay, is somebody hurt? Now you're in there. ball out when you're out there. So I'm liking the position of having just talent at that position, older talent, and signing younger talent for the group. Well, we got to get younger.
27:04No, no, for sure.
27:05James Harrison:And that's where these contracts are coming in. Yeah. So when you go and you, it's easy. Like I said, you look at it. We cooking. Hey. And we kept cooking. You know how we kept cooking? We extended. Mount. Garnell Washington to a nice four-year,$42 million extension. Great to see. Hey, hey. Great to see. Look here, brother. Look here. $21 million in guarantees after he did some little career-high stuff. But that'll be the low, career-high low, because I'm expecting him to go over that again. Again. You're talking about four-year, 42. They're thinking it's too much. No, it's not, dude. No. It's not.
27:51What are y 'all talking about? Y 'all don't understand the concept. What is it? Eight, almost eight to 11, they say, for a good, solid starter. This man can do both. He can do both. He can catch the ball, whoop on your ass, whoop on the D-lineman ass, too, if he get the right one. Did you see where he pulled block on the boy come across and just laid him down? Boy, he hit the boy. He tried to get up, but he couldn't. That's 300 pounds, bro. That's 300 pounds.
28:22James Harrison:Come on. Hey, Joe, what you going to do if you got to tackle that, bro? What you going to do if you got to tackle that, Joe? I'm taking his legs out. He's going to have to - He going to jump. He going to jump. Pursue. Somebody better be coming over there. Somebody better be - We better be coming together. We better - Rally the troops. I better not be the only one over there. If it's just me, there's trouble. Because I'm going to go for them legs. I'm shooting them. I'm trying to wrap them up. If he jumps over me, I done got jumped over. Because what I'm not about to do is run out there and get speed bumped.
28:56James Harrison:I'm not getting speed bumped by Big Brother because it's one thing. It's called physics. It's called gravity. It's called I'm bringing 185 as fast as I can, and you're leaning forward. I don't know. It's just science. You know what I'm saying? Physics. It just don't work that way. So I got to go for your legs so your upper body goes down. Dude, he out there in a grown man's game, bro. And he looking like the kid on the peewee team that everybody like, oh. That's what I'm saying. Where's his birth certificate? 17, 16 years old playing with the 10-year-old. That's what he look like out there, bro.
29:30James Harrison:Where's his birth certificate? That's what you think. Where is his birth certificate? No, there ain't no way. How old is he? Somebody got to show me. How old is his kid? He's 16. He's 16. He drove here. That's what I'm saying. And even if he drove here with his mom sitting there, he had a learner's. That's for sure. That little, that 15-year-old. I could have swore I seen that motherfucker get out from under that wheel. What y 'all talking about? I mean, y 'all are lying. What y 'all talking about? This nigga jumped out the side, walked around. No child lock for this nigga. He drove the car. No question about it.
30:02So now we got, well, we got Friar move. Yes. Through 28, Washington through 30. and when you look at it, hell, we only go ahead A-Rod when we go ahead A-Rod. Oh, that's something else too, though. That man A-Rod, he gave some high praise to Washington, man. He said, I'm just so proud of him. He said he has approached the – oh, no. Yeah, that is. Basically, he said the growth since he's seen him in training camp that he's continued to get his body in shape, which is one thing, his mind, another thing, and that he's a guy that he didn't have to worry about the details of where, you know, where he's going to be because he's very detail orientated.
30:50That came back, that super smart player. That was something that he said too. But that came back to when me and you were sitting there in the stadium watching the game and we're like, yo, it don't look like people know what the hell is going on. Why is he out here having to tell this and that? And then we sat down with somebody and they like, hey, it's this going on. Well, how is that possible? Shouldn't they be taught that? Nope, nobody's teaching them. So now he looks like he's going crazy, yelling and screaming at cats when it's like, yo, they should know it. But they don't because they're having a hard time of reading the defense because they're not taught to actually read the defense.
31:25Yeah. So.
31:28James Harrison:I think that's exactly right. I think just as long as them dudes, like you said, get into the playbook, they have the physical ability. That's not a question. It's just we need to have everybody out there knowing what they're doing, knowing what their assignments is, and performing at a high level consistently. And with Pat Firemuth there, with his, I know him and A-Rod. Every time he's out there, he's getting it. Well, that's why you bring A-Rod back, man, to continue the growth and knowledge and understanding. And now you just changed the whole staff. So now it's coming from the top down. Yo, you need to know and understand and learn what you're looking at.
32:01As a receiver, you need to know what kind of defense you're looking at because if you go out there and all of a sudden you think you have a – you're running man-beater routes and they're in zone, you got to know, oh, hold up, I got to sit down. I can't keep crossing into zones. I'm going to get myself put to sleep. Yes. You know what I'm saying? Like it's things like that. When you're in something that's for zone and they're playing man, well you're gonna have to adjust that route to to go to you know get yourself open or however that may be and that's that's a lot of things or some things that especially younger guys don't don't know or have the knowledge of coming in and it starts all the way in you know high school college where they're not being taught it's just go out there do this route shaking get over and then we gonna hit you they don't understand the concept when you get to the pro everybody is you so they can keep up with that now you got schemes now you got coaching yeah knowledge of what's going on and now my scheme can be outplayed by your players even though their talent may be better because i coach a scheme that's fully locked in that every gap is filled in that all the plugs and you know where the weakness is so that you play to your strengths and keep away from the weaknesses yeah like that's both sides of the ball like dude like you got this i can't wait till we get i can't wait till we get a little peasy on the contract because i know that one got to be coming look here i've been trying to tell people all y 'all people that have been talking about omar okay y 'all been talking about omar omar khan ain't did nothing since he got there or khan ain't did nothing since he gave shut up shut up i told i told steven a steven a what i say to I said, I know you think Omar ain't doing it.
33:39I said, watch Omar from this point forward. This year on, I said, watch the moves he make. And I said, from there, you go ahead and make your judgment. Stephen A., I know you're still a fan. Tell me what you think now. From this point forward, what you think he done did? How you think he done did? Let me know. Let me know. Judging from this point forward, because now I know he's doing what he's been put there to do. His title is actually what he's doing. It's not just something he's holding. You know what I'm saying? He's been able to do his job now.
34:09James Harrison:With this coming in, man, signing these free agents that when you look at the Steelers going into from last season, they won the division. I don't care how nobody wants to say how they did it, whatever. Steelers won the division. No matter what, Steelers won the division with all those other teams going on. With this team returning back, with us getting better, I feel like I don't think anyone can say the Steelers didn't get better. I think they went in free agency, went and addressed what we needed on the offensive side of the ball and at corner. You know what I'm saying? And then in the draft, went and got some pieces.
34:40James Harrison:Now just signing the guys that are on the team, A-Rod's coming back. I think if everybody performs at a very, very, at the level that they can, we got TJ. The defense is communicating. Jalen Ramsey is still like when you say the names and just names. still has got a squad yes mob full of players that are ballers at their position that have been proven ballers and younger guys that are just coming into their own so if everyone goes out there we communicate we don't we play just solid football i don't see how we just continue there's no way that we just lose games so if dudes do what they got to do and perform at a very every small business starts with a dream and the courage to chase it but even the strongest dreams need protection.

Go on, get a little out there into the big heart of Nevada, where you can go off-road and off the map on two lakes or on horseback. Dip into hot springs and dive into deserts. Climb a mountain or make your best effort.
38:46James Harrison:See thousands of stars in some of the darkest skies. Stake out haunted hotels. Can you make it to sunrise? There's always something new to see because we've got plenty of space to just be. Plan your trip at TravelNevada.com. At a level, it could get tricky. So that's why I like watching the Steelers right now. We play disciplined football. Play disciplined. Hell with something. Don't hurt yourself. Play discipline. Don't hurt yourself. Know your assignment. Don't hurt yourself. Get to it and do it. Teach them the right technique so that they can go out there and accomplish and do their job. Because there's no way in hell they would be taught the right things that we were looking at being done by different members on a consistent basis.
39:29And then sitting down and obviously hearing what we heard as we were sitting there of what was being taught was crazy or not taught.
39:39James Harrison:with the people that we have on defense with that defense with those players that are out there if they know their assignment alignment and technique and are communicating and just out there every time there's no ma's there's no bust i'm not saying you're doing the craziest stuff people are going to make plays on them but if nobody's running scot-free down the field and you have to drive it down on that defense i would love to see it so that's where we're just looking at it like, no, just don't have those plays and let's see how good and how highly ranked this defense could be. Offense, run the ball.
40:10James Harrison:Let's see what's going on and we can get up on the sticks. You know what I'm saying? A-Rod, okay, he's not fast. A lot of quarterbacks aren't fast, but they know where they need to go with the ball. They're able to, you know what I'm saying, hand it off. You know what I'm saying? That's where you can run the connections. Run game. Run game. It's setting up all that. Tom Brady was never fast. You know what I'm saying? Like, Aaron Rodgers has never been the fastest. He was able to move, but adapt. No question. No question. I guess we got to go over here to the Browns. Browns' new past, Russell J.
40:41Verse made it clear that he's not seeking to replace Miles Garrett. First said, it caught me by surprise. I love the whole vibe of LA, Los Angeles Rams. It was a little upsetting. I was upset for a good little bit of time. But he said, I'm here now He said, I'm not here to fill Miles Garrett's shoes. I'm here to bring my own. I'm here to work, and I'm here to be the best version of me. Then he said this, and the best version of me is going to be, is going to be, is going to be, is going to be, the best defensive player in the league.
41:30My man shooting for the stars No, no, no, no, no, no, no He didn't say I hope He said it is Going to be The best version of me Is going to be The best defensive player In the league
41:53James Harrison:That's what he said Yes He went for his rookie season He was defensive player Rookie defensive player of the year Second season went to the Pro Bowl Two straight Pro Bowls And he feels like he's getting better I mean I'm not here to knock him I ain't knocking it either But I'm just saying That's a That's a strong bold statement That's a huge Huge bold statement now Go get it You knew you were in Cleveland Go get it Miles Garrett did it in Cleveland you know you know i'm saying no i'm not i'm not i'm not mad at it i'm not i ain't mad at it either i'm just saying you're just saying that's a lot that's a lot to say you don't put a lot of pressure on yourself now yeah i don't you know i don't know i i feel i respect his honesty and everything that he said in that answer with i love i hate what you said i love this i love this i love this I love his confidence.
42:51Nah, I like that. I like that. I don't know. I don't know how much. I don't know. I don't know if I like it a lot. You know, I like it. I just don't, you know. Yeah. You start putting words like that out there. That's, you know. People come back to that, you know.
43:08James Harrison:But he go hard. So we going to look. That's there. That's like locker room. That's locker room. Like, they go use this everywhere. Hey, we playing against the best defensive player in the league right now. The main is going to be the best defensive player in the league right now. He wants to be. He wants to be. Everybody want to be, but don't nobody say the best version of me is going to be, is going to be the best defensive player in the league. Yeah, if he, that's it. I mean, hey, listen, man, I'm just telling you, like, when I replaced Peezy, and Peezy left and went to Miami, he asked me the question.
43:46I'm like, yo, you know, I'm not here to, you know, do what P's do. I'm here to do what I do. That's what he said. But you didn't say that. I didn't say I'm here to be the best version of me. And that is the best player in the defensive player in the league.
44:00James Harrison:Yeah. I mean, I turned out to be that. But I wasn't running out there shooting it out. You know what I'm saying? I would have been like you. I would have been more like you. I would have been probably like you. I've been more humble about you. Actually speak louder than what you mean. I'm just trying to do what I can, man, to be me. You know what I'm saying? and be the best version of me. And, you know. I'm going to tell you what's the wild part, though. My man went in there and went and got that number eight. I'm trying to figure out. Eight. You got that. You got that. Hey. So, you know. Hey, listen.
44:29James Harrison:He said, I ain't worried about that. Bro, the whole time. I'm going to wear this jersey out here. I'm going to wear this eight. What do you mean? Pay him one. They're going to have to go figure it out. He's two. He's older. That's a younger player. And, you know, sometimes, I mean, he's already hot. I'm coming in. I'm you drafted a year after me last year was your rookie year you the third string quarterback you giving that up you giving that up I've been to the Pro Bowl and then I'm on my rookie contract too even though I went first round I'm coming to here this year I'm making 2.1 that's a million at the time you put no like they gonna just give me that because just seniority wise I would see if it was me though I would have came in maybe and said something like you know no Joe hold up Listen, Joe, he done came from L.A.
45:15James Harrison:Yeah, no, he's hot. He's hot. He's hot. He's coming in. I need that. You think I'm going to come in here and pay anybody a dime for my number? No, no, no, no, no. He wasn't getting the money out. He wasn't getting the money out. What made you think, Dylan, that you was going to get a penny? You're out of your mind. Now, I understand what you're saying. And even if he was coming there, I would expect, I wouldn't hope that Dylan would want. What your GM said? What he said? The trade wasn't done without verse. That means your eight is his. Yeah. Get the hell out of the way, boy. Go pillow talk to your girl or something.
45:56Stop it. Tell them how you wanted to have an eight, but they said you couldn't have. Whatever. I don't know. Whatever excuse you want to make, man. No, no, no. For sure.
46:03James Harrison:He got to get. The end of the day, somebody was going to have to make sure the eight was going to be versus regardless, saying he didn't DS. They already told him that. He was like, yo, I want to play eight. He was like, yeah, it's cool. When you get here, don't worry about it. Yeah, let me get that. They just ain't know. Who didn't know? They shouldn't even put the number in this locker that day, man. He knew as soon as they made that trade, they should have been like, hey. That's what I'm saying. Verse is looking at it. That's a whole. Here's what's available. That's an upper management move.
46:36James Harrison:Verse is like, look, y 'all know when I'm coming in there, it's eight. The equipment manager need to pull Dillon to the side. Already knew. and be like, yo, Dylan, you know what I'm saying? Versus coming in, he's going to have that eight. Which, these are the jumps available right here. You know what I'm saying? 18, you know what I'm saying? Something similar, what other number do you like? These are what we have. Because, yeah. That's it. Just move. Because Versus, they needed to almost, you know what I'm saying? The man said, I'm upset. I liked it out here. It was vibing, you know what I'm saying?
47:09He already been Ohio. The boy from Dayton, Ohio. He know what's up there. It ain't nothing. He know how good it is in LA. Except for them taxes now. I'm telling you that right now.
47:23James Harrison:See, it's going to season. He's about to save some cash, though. Verse, you're about to save some cash, baby. I'm trying to tell you that right now. You got a job. Get a little something in your pocket, man. And then you go out there and get that defensive player of the year like you say you're going to get, baby. Now you go ahead and get that money, money. You know what I'm saying? Yes. You know what I'm saying? And you're going to save on the taxes. Come on, man. I'm just trying to tell you, but hey, listen. He's still on that. Ricky Dill, he trying to get that bag. This is where everybody got to realize, man.
47:49Everybody talk about family. Oh, it's family. We family. We family. I understand that. We family. I understand that. But you got to understand something. It's a business, and the business come first. Okay? And what you got to do is you got to be able to move away from the family side of that and realize like, yo, this is the business of it. Like if I'm having you as family work for me and you ain't doing what's necessary for your job or I feel like I could get somebody else to do something better. Yes, I don't care that we're family. We're going to still stay family. Yeah. But your ass ain't going to be working for me.
48:28I'm going to get somebody else in here that's going to do your job better. Yeah. And you got to go.
48:34James Harrison:The family comes when it's more kind of with your teammates because they're going to be there with you regardless. Y 'all are kind of fighting through it. These are your boys. Y 'all are going through the same stuff. You have to perform. So with your coaches and all the gyms, y 'all are going to be family until you are not good enough. You know what I'm saying? Until you're not performing. Now, I will say this. What? You can still be real-life family. For sure, for sure, for sure. But you've got to be able to sort that and be honest. It's easy to be honest. Sorry, it's easy to still be family as long as they're honesty.
49:11I may not appreciate or agree with what you're telling me, but if that's your truth on what you believe my skills are now, I can deal with that.
49:21James Harrison:Agree to disagree. Don't feed me some bullshit and then come with something else. Hey, I still got plenty of people in the Steelers organization that I am cool with. I consider family and all that. but it's I know and understand the business of that and in that process yes and I think that's why too when before the trade happened with Jared Verse you heard all of the uh Sean Sean McVay and all of them they made sure they got in touch with them and let him know what it was because the big thing is with the league you don't want to like when I say Andrew Barry you don't you can't believe him because he's gonna lie they have to not tell you anything no question nothing goes through stuff falls through all the time to where like you don't want to have the ifs and wins and the answers but when it happens you know i'm saying they always they've been working on stuff but that's their job they're going to keep that stuff in the background so they can't really let you know what's going to happen until the last minute and then trying to make sure though all right this is really about to happen i'm going to get in touch with verse let him know because that's a big swing it's not right it didn't want to have him in but the public y 'all can kick rocks i rock with you you're my man's burst but we're going to be able to get miles garrett here for the organization i think he's going to put us over the top nothing bad to do if you've been a great player like in the in the in the swap we didn't we don't want to give you off this gonna hurt so before the organization for us moving forward i think miles garrett is going to put us over the top he had 23 sacks last year he's the defense player of the year you are amazing pro bowler seven and a half sacks, you're going to be amazing.
50:57James Harrison:But right now, tomorrow, Myles Garrett on his team is going to make us better and I think we can win the Super Bowl. Zero, I love you the same. You know what I'm saying? But that has nothing to do with Myles Garrett and the business of the Rams that I'm trying to produce a championship right here.
