In short

The Steelers’ 2024 schedule release and TJ Watt trade rumors, plus a lot of debate about how Pittsburgh’s defense will perform under a new coaching staff.

Guests

None. The episode is hosted by James “Deebo” Harrison and Joe Hayden.

Guest backgrounds (mentioned in the transcript, but not as guests on this episode): The transcript includes promos for other iHeart podcasts featuring Robert Smigel, Mikey Day, Streeter Seidel, Diana Maria Riva, Isaiah Thomas, CJ Toledano, and Carlos King, but they are not participating here.

Key claims

  • Steelers should be strong on defense again, targeting a top-10 unit after last year’s poor defensive ranking.
  • Early “litmus tests” include Falcons (Week 1), Patriots (Week 2), and Bengals (Week 3), with a Thursday night Browns game in Cleveland.
  • The hosts predict a strong start (talk of “worst case” around 5-3 to 6-2, with “best case” near 7-1) before a bye at Week 9.
  • TJ Watt being traded to help Nick Herbig’s extension is unlikely due to Watt’s locker-room value and consistent performance.

Notable examples

  • Specific schedule opponents and game locations: Falcons, Patriots, Bengals, Browns (Thursday night in Cleveland), plus mentions of Tampa Bay and an overseas game in Paris.
  • Steelers defense “punishing” style and references to players/coaches like Mike McCarthy and Joey Porter Jr.

Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. I don't even want to ask you, but how you doing today, Joe? You already know. Already know. Yeah. Got a little bit of that Donovan Mitchell. Got a little bit of that James Harden. You know what it is, Debo. You know how I'm feeling. How you doing today, Joe? I'm doing jolly. Yes. I'm doing jolly. Did you see my boys, though, Debo? I ain't even watching, man. I went to sleep. I was in the bed. I know you didn't watch.

4:47James Harrison:You could care less. I was in the bed sleep, you know? You know what I'm saying? But if you, you know, I'll go ahead and I'll watch. They were up. They were up 12 points. I'll watch. I'll watch. I'll watch today. Tonight. I'll watch tonight. Because when I do watch, when I do watch, when I do watch, they put them hands on them boys. You understand me? If they would have lost, somehow you would have seen it. I know that. I know that. I'm just saying. I didn't. I'm just, I can't help it. That's just what it was, bro. It ain't, you know, it wasn't meant for me to see, obviously. My boys was out there fighting, D-Bo.

5:27James Harrison:My boys was out there fighting. They was down by 12 points, three minutes left. Down by 11 with like a, down by eight with like a minute and 40 left. Oh, it was like that. So, oh, so they just. You came back with overtime. They let them. All right, I see what you're saying. I see what you're saying. Because they ain't want to close. They want to close it out at home. I get it. I get it. Makes sense. They wanted to. They want to close it out at home That's what's going on We're going to close them out at our crib No, no, no, no, no, they're going there Then they go close it out, seven at the crib It makes sense now I know you, it's funny, but I know you sing I mean, you up by that much, with that little time left You want to lose, you want to stretch it out You know what I'm saying?

6:07James Harrison:No, you don't I'm just telling you, I'm not saying they wanted to But you know how these, the script You know how the scripts go Yeah, the script The script that the NBA wrote read seven. Read Cavs and six at the crib. I'm just telling you, man. Listen, man, I'm just telling you. I'm starting to go with the script stuff. Even though I know the script stuff ain't real, when it benefits me to say it's a script, then I'm going to say it. If it benefits me right now, I'll say it's a script. Even though I know it ain't. You know it ain't. You know them boys out there giving their blood, sweat, and tears.

6:47James Harrison:You know K wanted to win. I don't care. That is the script that they ran by. And the script said Detroit and Seven at home. Because, listen, Oklahoma over there just running through people. They just running the trains. So they like, hey, y 'all got to stretch this out over here. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, they need some more games. They need some more TV time. And that's what it came down to. You know? Ain't no way. Like, you got to realize. You really just start needing, this is all I need you to do, Debo. Just start getting on the Cavs train. Just get on the Cavs train. You see what they got going on.

7:27James Harrison:You know I got a good squad. Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Mobley, Struce, Shrouder. We got ballers over there. And you know they're grinders. Go get us. Do you not like Donovan Mitchell's game? I'm not saying, I'm not saying that, you know, I don't like it. Joe, here's the thing, Joe. Yes, yes, yes. It's not any player on the team that I have a dislike for or I feel any way towards or a certain way about. It's the fact that it's Cleveland and you like them. Dang. Okay. Look at you, Joe. I didn't know that. Look what you got on. You see me? I'm calved up. Because they out there doing what they got to do.

8:18James Harrison:They're in the NBA playoffs right now. About to go Eastern Conference Finals. I'm hyped. You were saying, oh, yeah, they about to get swept. Good old Cade. Listen. Good old Darby. I wasn't realizing with the script. I didn't know what they was doing over there in the West. I just didn't know. Okay. I ended up. That's why I wasn't watching the game, because I'd already read the script. Now I'm going to start watching. You already knew what was going to happen. Now this is when I watch. I read the script. The script say, hey, they go pop him tonight, and then they go get him at 7. They say, yo, we want a repeat of what we had over there.

8:55James Harrison:We want that Detroit, New York repeat, that matchup right there, because that bring numbers. That was numbers. That bring numbers. You know what I'm saying? I'm just telling you. The Cavs know about the break. Cleveland ain't bringing them numbers. Stop it. We got what? Cleveland ain't bringing them numbers like that, man. The Cavs ain't bringing them numbers like that, man. James Harden is there. We definitely bringing numbers. Mobley's there. Joe, come on, baby. You know that just don't fit in the script. Come on, man. Come on. You telling me they have more star power. I'm just telling you what the numbers say.

9:25Listen, you lie.

9:27James Harrison:I can lie. Numbers don't lie. Numbers don't lie. All right. Okay. Okay. Got you. I got you. We're going to see tonight, though. Cavs going to the Eastern Conference Finals. We're going with the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Cavs about to go. They done did all they could do. The man done did all he could do. Hey, listen, Joe. I ain't going to lie to you. They did a damn good job, too. Hey, they did a good job. Thank you. Thank you. Great job. They ain't done yet. That's it. Hey, listen, man. They did their job as it was wrote down on that script. And I appreciate them for that because it's going to look like a – it's going to be a beautiful thing, man.

10:09James Harrison:I just got it now. Detroit when they come back. I get it. You're a full-blown Cleveland hater. And no matter what happens, you're going to hope for the worst. I got it. I mean, the worst is not them losing. Yeah. It's a game, you know? Yeah. You don't want us to win. I mean, it could be. Here you go. That's what I'm talking about. Us. What's up? Us. I go from Eastern Conference to the championship. You go us a lot. Us. Don't. You my dog, D-Bo. I don't know you. That's what I got to let you realize. I don't know you. Do you not understand? You are my dog. I don't know you, bro. As much as you feel like you're not, you are my dog, bro.

10:55James Harrison:You really are. Like, you don't know. I don't know you. You don't know me. I don't know you, man. We just happened to do a show together, bro. Like, you make like, it's a thing. Bruh. Bruh. It's you, then it's me. it's me and it's us in the chat it's we in the chat and then it's y 'all and you and them you know I got it I got you that's all I'm saying that's all I'm saying still has done released that full full schedule look here I'm going to tell you right now I'm going to go to each game week one we won. Atlanta. Yes. Atlanta. Duh. Coming out party. We getting we getting we getting dubbed there.

11:49James Harrison:Atlanta. Like it don't it don't it don't really matter like who they go put in there. I believe I don't know if things are going to be ready but I think it's going to be to it like hey and I really ain't you know I really ain't tripping on what they got over there. Yeah. Especially like I'm looking at just our defense. I'm just looking at our defense. And I understand people go, oh, your defense sucked last year. Yeah, our defense did suck. It was like, what was it, 25, 26, something like that. Offense was 25, defense was 26, you know. But we got a whole new staff. We got a whole new staff. Complete staff, okay?

12:26And I feel like with the talent we have in proper management of the offense, defensive systems, we are going to be able to be at least,

12:36James Harrison:I'd say 15 15 or better on offense Defense We're getting back Into the top 10 Defense We're getting back To the top 10 So that's where I'm going with this Off rip For this year For this season Next game Off rip Next game Patriots Litmus test Quick Quick I think it's going to be I think it's a quick test To see where we stand Exactly But that's a win That's a win First game of the season Boom. Falcons, second game, Patriots. It's going to be a real live game. And I'm going to get an early litmus test to see what the defense looks like. Exactly. We're going to get to see what the defense looks like.

13:16James Harrison:We're going to get to see. And, A, we're going to get to see. We're going to be in New England. Okay? And that ain't a bad thing. Are we going to be in New England? Yeah, that ain't a bad thing. New England, New England, they was, what, 8-0 on the road, 5-3 at the crib? So that means, hey, they don't defend the house too much. And I ain't going to put it out there. I ain't going to say nothing. But, hey, they got a little distraction going on over there. You know what I'm saying? They got a little distraction. They got a little distraction going on over there. And if need be, if need be, I ain't the type of person that need to do this, but I would do this.

13:43James Harrison:Yes, I am. Let me stop lying. Back then, I would. You are messy. I'm going to get messy. I'm going to get messy on the week of the game, and I'm going to start talking and asking questions. I'm going to get messy. I ain't going to lie. I need distraction. Whatever it comes to to win. For sure. Bulletin board material. We're looking up everything. I need to know. what was your relationship with that woman? Hey, I ain't listen, I'm just saying, man. I'm messing when it comes to you. When that week comes, we need the locker room to be flustered. I don't know, man. Listen, man. Listen, I'm just saying, brother.

14:15James Harrison:I'm just saying. That's going to be a litmus test, though. That's a good thing. Game three at the crib. It's time to start winning division games. Cincinnati. Cincinnati, listen. Early division game. Listen. And if this is when we go go ahead and show Joe, you should have came. You should have went up there and talked. You should have went and seen Mr. Brown. It's when it's time we're going to have to go ahead and show him. Yep. And that's what you're going to show. Yep. Okay? Joey Borda Jr. Mm-hmm. That defense. And then immediately after that. Yes, sir. Thursday night. Thursday night game. Hey, Cleveland.

15:01James Harrison:8-15. We'll see y 'all. Yeah. It's going to be some good football out there. No, the hell with that, Joe. Who you got, Joe? Yeah, it is. It's going to be some good ball out there. Who you got, Joe? I'll tell you that. The hell with the good ball. Joe, this, I'm going to punch you in your face. It's a lot that we don't know. Look, who going to be the quarterback for the Steelers? Who going to be the quarterback for the Braves? Hold up. Hold up. Let me put my hat on for this game for Joe. Let me put my hat on for this game for Joe. This Joe's hat. I done forgot to get Joe's hat. Yeah. I done forgot.

15:31James Harrison:I forgot to get it. Yeah. I got to get you your hat. I got to get you your hat. Yeah. I want it to be a football game, Debo. And when I mean a football game, offense, defense, special teams, both teams going at it. Because there's going to be plays made on both sides. I want to see how it goes. when the Browns play this Thursday night game. No, it's in Cleveland. Thursday night. Early. Yes. Early in the air. At the crib. Yeah. I understand what y 'all saying. I understand. Yeah. Listen, I've been. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends.

17:37If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down.

17:44James Harrison:Marcia accusing Kelly of sleeping with a married man. They holding Kate Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the tea everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment.

18:24To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Jared O'Donnell. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, Help! On the internet! Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor, I'm a comedian, and recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Psych! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.

19:08If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary.

19:15James Harrison:Oh, cream of chicken soup. Hey, cream. Cream of chicken soup. This is Help From a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help From a Hypocrite as part of the My Cultura podcast network available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and iHeart Podcast presents Soccer Moms. So I'm Leanne. Yeah. This is my best friend, Janet. Hey. And we have been joined at the hip since high school. Absolutely. Now a redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips. wider.

19:48This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drinks. Sidebar, why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a Bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white claw or something here? Just take it. What are y 'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album? Oh, I would. I would buy it.

20:10James Harrison:Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict. You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You're lucky I'm not a killer. I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on. Oh. Oh. Listen to Soccer Moms on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Definitely going to be in the building for this one. We're going to be on the building for this one. Who the hell is we, Joe? We, when I say we means, I can't stop saying we. We is me and you. There's two people that I'm just talking to.

20:49James Harrison:It's me and it's you. We are going to be at the game. That game is in Cleveland, bro. Yeah. What you mean? That game is in Cleveland, bro. You know what? I'm going to go. I'm going to bring you to the game. Everybody want to talk about all this. You guys are, what is it, one six and one in the last eight games in Cleveland? Yeah. That was under different leadership. That was under different schemes and everything else. That is about to change. I want to hear it, but you're going to do it. You know what's so crazy, Joe? I think I only lost to Cleveland like maybe three times in my whole career, four at the most, like ever in a whole 15, 16-year career, Joe.

21:26James Harrison:I hear you. I hear you. I didn't beat the Steelers too often when I was with the Browns. I did not either. So I understand what you're saying. But it's a different doubt. Look, if it was the fifth, we all knew. So who we playing in that game? Who we? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Both of us still don't know. It's still early. We still trying to figure out, I'm hoping that we're going to have Shador as the quarterback for the Browns. And then if all is good, Aaron Rodgers is going to be the quarterback for the Steelers. That's what it's looking like. So it's going to be A-Rod or Shador.

21:59James Harrison:That's what I'm trying to get you to understand. It don't matter who the quarterback for the Steelers is going to be. What matters is what my defense is going to be. A Pittsburgh Steelers defense. What do you think the Browns are going to be? Listen, I don't worry about what the Browns do. Okay. What did the Browns do against us? as a defense. Go ahead. You tell me what the Steelers going to be. What did the Browns do against us as a defense? You tell me. How many sacks did Mr. Garrett over there get? You keep on talking about Mr. Garrett's sacks. He didn't have a sack versus y 'all. I don't want to talk about that game no more.

23:20James Harrison:You know you believe me. You know I love what I say is facts. Joe, here's the problem. Here's the problem. I know we're your second favorite team. I know. Okay. But you want to try and lie to me and tell me you're still a... It just by a little teeny bit. Can't be. By a little teeny bit. That's enough. That's enough. Is that enough to piss you off? to make you want to cut your throat. It's like a little bit. It's not even a lot, D-Bo. I'm telling you. But I got to pick. I got to just... Because I was... No. I was drafted there. Okay, I'm not going to explain myself. You ain't got to explain yourself.

23:59James Harrison:Hey, I'm going to let it go. I'm going to pick you off no more. I'm going to let it go. Tampa, only thing I'm worried about over there. They done took Danny. They got Danny Smith as special team coordinator. That's the only thing I'm worried about over there. But... And they got our boy. But... But... I still feel like we gonna go ahead and do that right there, okay? Now, here's where it start. Here's where it start. It get a little tricky for me. We gotta go all the way to Paris. Paris. Wee wee. Paris. You can wee wee now, Joe. We in Paris. Wee wee bon bon. Wee wee bon bon in Paris. That's what you know.

24:45Hey.

24:48James Harrison:That's going to be... You never know with them overseas games. I feel like we're going to get that work done. We're going to get that work done. Come on back immediately and go ahead and get that work done against Cleveland. Again. Again. And right into the bye. Perfect cut on the bye at week nine. Listen. listen you got you you like ain't no ain't no bro worst case scenario worst case scenario worst case maybe 7-1 worst case

26:01James Harrison:This. What's up? What you thinking? What you thinking? Yeah. Right now. Yeah. What happens is they said, you know what?

26:15James Harrison:everybody want to see the stillness everybody want to see the stillness you know why everybody want to see the stillness because we the real us chat we you want to be in this one you want to be in this one now don't you I'm in it we the real real America's team okay we didn't even have to be named it baby we was giving it to it We ain't have to take no names. We. Legit. We. I'm with you. You understand that? Now. Yes. You see what happened after week 10? What happened after week 10, Joe? Monday night. Oh, no, sorry. Sunday night. Sunday night football. 8-20 game. Week 11. Yep. Sunday afternoon.

27:02James Harrison:4-25 game, Joe. They said Friday, 3 p.m., Black Friday. They say, put the Steelers in now. They pop right back on Sunday night for an 8-20 game, Joe, to a Monday, 8-15. And then they said, hey, calm down, calm down. We're going to get y 'all 1 o 'clock on Sunday for the 15, for week 15. But it's going to be with the Ravens. Hey, you know what the NFL looking at? You know what they looking like? What they looking like, brother? They saying, damn, bro. Looking at the schedule. Week 10. The boys coming out of the bye, they could be 8-0. Maybe 7-1. And guess what? Nobody really got a chance to watch them.

27:54James Harrison:Why? Because most of those games was at 1 o 'clock, except for the Thursday night game with the Bombs. You know what I'm saying? No, not the Bombs. Browns, that's 75. Okay, go ahead. I'm going to let you get off. That's why. That's why they set this schedule like this. Hey, look here. Them boys. Them Steelers. You know, you look, D-Bo. What you thinking? Go ahead. And everybody want to see the Steelers. Okay? Now, on top of that. Damn. They got a new coach for the first time in the last 19 seasons. Only the fourth coach since what, 1969? Along with a whole new staff of assistant coaches to go with it.

28:52James Harrison:Hey, what did Tupac say? What did Tupac say? All eyes on me. All eyes on us. Okay. That's a fact. That's a fact. That's a fact. Everybody want to watch? Everybody going to see all these primetime games because of eyeballs. Thousand percent. I agree with you. I agree with you. What do you think is going to happen? How do you think they're going to act? Because I'm looking at the popping off. You say seven and one, Debo. I got to get in with that. I don't know if we're going to be seven and one. Hold on, hold on. What you trying to say? We're going to be six and two? I mean, six and... You said worst case scenario, seven and one.

29:41James Harrison:Yeah. I'm saying worst case scenario going into the... After the bye? First eight games. Yes. Worst case, I'm going to have to go with New England. I don't know. That could be... That's one that they might... You know what I'm saying? You just can't say. Worst case, six and two. What you want? Who you got for the third then where you want to say five and three or four and four or something? I'm saying I'm going with New England. It's going to be a match. You know what I'm saying? Definitely. I got us getting Cincinnati out of the way. Tampa is an option, and we play the Browns twice. I mean, I'd like for the Browns.

30:25James Harrison:The Browns might could get one. So I'm saying it could be worst case five and three. Stop it, Joe. Stop it, Joe. I'll say that. Yeah. I love the talk of being right now just going through the whole thing undefeated or 7-1. Sounds good, Debo. Maybe Patriots and Tampa. That's it. Maybe the Patriots and Tampa. Six and two worse. So you're saying nothing? No, that's not happening no more, bro. That's over with. That's gone. Six and two. I say, okay. What happened when that was going on? That whole process, that whole thing, team, defense, offense, gone. Every scheme of offense and defense that allowed that to happen over the last eight home games is gone.

31:19James Harrison:Get rid of that.

31:25Okay.

31:26James Harrison:You about to see the players that we said they had the potential to do it, play to that potential. Debo, I'm hearing everything you're saying exactly right because we do have the names. We do have the players to do what you're saying to do. But I'm letting you know that you're setting yourself up right now on this pod for the craziest crash out that I've ever seen. Hey, listen. This is what I need you to do, man. Hey, I want y 'all to go ahead and clip this up, man. Please, clip this one up. Okay, keep, keep, keep, keep. I believe. I want it to happen too because what you're saying, we do have the names on the defense.

32:11James Harrison:New quilt. Everybody, all that 25th Rams, defense, all that. That's not what it's supposed to be. That is not it. That is not happening. It's not going nowhere. It's not rocking. We not rocking. All eyes on me. That's what he said. That's what Tupac said. That's going to be watching these games. It's going to be haters. You know? Haters. They want to see us fail. They hoping. Please, please let them lose. Please. They like Samuel L. Jackson and Django. When Jamie Foxx shot his ass and that boy said, oh, sweet Jesus, please help me kill this nigga. That's them. Oh, sweet Jesus, please help me kill this nigga.

32:59James Harrison:That's them. They're praying on our downfall. Please let them lose. No. They're praying on our downfall. The other ones is us. Still is nation. Because we sitting here and we about to watch them boys put in work. We about to watch them show you what them three stars on their chest mean. You about to see what still us is. Not just the name. It's a whole process and a way of winning. It's a way of punishing. look here and we don't win the game oh we gonna make sure that your ass is so sore you gonna feel all that the next day okay you don't come in and out of a still a game and fresh and vibey the next week.

34:03James Harrison:Hell no. Your ass is still icing up until Wednesday. That's what we're going to need to see. Ice up. Ice up. Ice up. It ain't the damn thing you can do when the Steelers coming for you. You understand me? I hear you. I hear you. I hear you. And you, look, this is the thing, Debo. You're not talking crazy because you have to do it. You ask anybody. You ask anybody that played a real-life Steelers football team, not just a team that said Steelers, a team that played like Steelers on offense and defense. you're not coming out of that game unscathed okay leaving there with knots and bruises you leaving there with lumps on your ass and your head and everywhere else on your body you go realize that you was in a football game you ain't coming out here to play basketball on grass we kicking your ass talk to him dbo that one okay i i know i know i know i know i i know what type of violence that you're promoting on our defense.

35:27James Harrison:I know what you want it to look like. What you gonna do when the Pittsburgh Steelers come for you?

35:42James Harrison:I'm with you, Devo. Are you talking about they? They? Bro, let me tell you. Devo, look, look, look. You saying what they gonna... Listen, when the last time they done came for you? When the last time there still came for you? You know what I'm saying? We out here talking all that. We done watch the tape. You done seen people running through our defense. You done seen with that man that we just hired, Mike McCarthy. You didn't see the way he felt the love, the admiration. Yes, yes, yes. The passion. 40:47James Harrison:Passion. Passion, Joe. Listen here, Joe. He understands what it means to be a Steeler. He's seen the Steel Curtain. He watched him grow up as a kid and say, oh, my God, if I ever got the chance to be part of that. He want to be part of that. He want to have his name. He want to put a Lombardi two or three in there. He want them saying that when Mike McCarthy came back to the Steelers, It was the Pittsburgh Steelers that played Steeler football, and it wasn't about a fucking logo or saying. It was the actual proof in the pudding of us punishing people. Yep. Yep. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Okay. What we talking about, Joe?

41:35James Harrison:Okay. What we talking about? We talking about punishing people. That's what we talking about. We talking about passion. Yeah. Man. We're talking about defense. We're talking about Steelers defense. I don't even know why I got so, like, damn, Joe. We ain't even started playing a game yet. Man, that's what I'm trying to prepare you because they got it. You listen. You're not hitting nobody else. I hear you, and I love you. And I know if you could, you would. But when they go out there, we want that Steelers defense out there. We got to see it because if you come in here and we see people running through it and the linemen getting pushed backwards to the linebackers.

42:15James Harrison:Bro, that shit ain't happening. That's not happening. I'm telling you that right now. That's not happening. Domino Pecco. Domino.

42:24James Harrison:You know him, Pecco. Yes, yes, yes. He ain't having that shit. He ain't teaching that. Brad Grass, I know him. I done seen him play. I played with him. Okay. No, he ain't going that. He ain't allowing that. Okay. I'm with okay I hope he's going to be teaching them that and you know I could tell them to go jump the slant on the three step and nigga out there start acting silly and get the panic listen listen bro it's work being put in right there it's work being put in right there you understand me okay yes yes I understand you so what are you thinking about the rest of the once they come out of the box because you had it.

43:10James Harrison:Worst case, six and two. Worst case, six and two. Worst case, six and two. Doing it first. Boom. Bye week. Week nine. Bam. Now we coming out to bye. Week 10. Listen, I ain't going to lie to you, man. I ain't going to lie to you. I just can't see us. I just can't see us losing a Monday night game. I can't see us losing an eight. I can't see us losing an eight game. Listen, I'm going to tell you right. The real talk, them boys got me a little gun shy over there. Who?

43:44James Harrison:Houston. Houston, Texas. They coming back here. They coming back here. What about Denver? But we got a whole new staff. Listen, man. If y 'all let Houston do anything close to what the hell they did to us in them last five minutes. But, man, drop down your nuts. Stick your foot into the ground. Right? Week 13. You better be like Friday the 13th for they ass and Jason chasing them. When we Jason. We Jason. We not running. We Jason. We not tripping over stuff. Oh. We the one doing the chasing. Okay. But you know Houston, they bringing them boys out there too. I feel you, Ebo. Listen. They still got your boy, what's his name?

44:45James Harrison:Yeah, man. CJ. They still got CJ Stroud over there now. They still got CJ Stroud. Hey, he got with it. Look, he's playing. I know that. You go disrespecting my dog. I know that. He's playing. He's playing because he got something. He got things to prove. He got things to prove. All right, man, look here, man. We get to the end of the season. I'm looking at.

45:09James Harrison:we probably won't yeah that's the last game crazy 18 but we ain't gonna be really i don't know we might be resting so i mean we could we could be looking at debo shut your you talking about rest you be resting for sure we're not resting no like what is he talking about bro like after the After we popped them on December 20th, Baltimore, and then the Panthers, and then Tennessee, like what is we talking about? We resting. We done won the North. We probably sitting there fighting for one and trying to fight for the bye. Like maybe, maybe, maybe, what is it? Maybe. Bro, Debo. Maybe 14. Listen, Joe, maybe 14 and 3.

46:02James Harrison:13 and 4 at worst. You know what I'm saying? That's what I'm saying, Joe. I'm just telling you. You are a confident... I love it because this is all best case scenarios. Obviously. That's what we're hoping for. That's what we're rooting for. You know what I'm saying? Joe, I understand what you're saying, but like that's like my worst case scenario. Like we may have to play because we second in the AFC. See, see, this one I'm – okay. Who you got above us in the AFC? Who? Pop off, please tell me who. I have Denver. I have New England

46:59James Harrison:those are the two that I have just because of what my eye test tells me I'm going to listen they can do whatever it is they do we get to play New England we win that tiebreaker us we play Denver those are guys that you us. Like I said, worst case too in the AFC. Worst case. We ain't got to go to Denver. I don't even like that era over there in Denver, man. Every time I came home from Denver, man, I played the game, bro. I was over there. I was over there pissing blood every time I got home, bro. This shit was terrible, bro. Them boys over there was nice. No, it wasn't nothing to do with nice, bro.

47:45James Harrison:That era just, I was, man, I thought I had sickle cell trade or something, bro. I was out that motherfucker feeling bad. And you got good work, too, so that's crazy. But listen, I don't get along with air like that. I took my son. He had to do thoracic surgery on his SC. I don't get along with air like that. It don't. Bruh, I was waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air. I was in Aspen, or was it Vail? Vail, Colorado. Bruh, it's higher than Denver. I was over there gasping for air, bruh. Waking up in the middle of the night like five, six times, bruh. And I'm like, yo, I got to get up.

48:22James Harrison:got to get a damn sleep. You didn't need a sleep apnea machine. No, bruh. I couldn't breathe. The air was just breathing, bruh. When we went to Mexico City, bruh, the same thing, bruh. Mexico City is stupid high. And then we was like staying on like the 15th floor, bruh. The out, bruh. I woke up, I got up in the morning and I'm like, yo, man. I'm like, yo, did anybody else not be able to sleep and just waking up gasping for air? We're like, hell yeah. That's when we found out it was super high there, bro. Me and altitude, we don't mix with. Don't work together. Okay. No, I got you. I just don't get along with air like that.

49:02James Harrison:My lungs... You keep saying I don't get along with air. I don't get along with that air, bro. That air, thin, light, whatever that air is, it's missing something. It's missing something that my air here don't... it's missing something that my air here has. And I don't know. That you need it. I need, I don't know what the hell it is, bro. But I'm going to tell y 'all right now, that altitude, that high stuff, that stuff matters, bro. Yeah, for sure. That's real. I don't know. In effect, it affects certain people because I was out there. I didn't feel, I didn't feel it. I've been to Vail. I played in Denver.

49:40James Harrison:I didn't feel it. But some of my teammates felt it. So I know you, Ryan Clark, having a sickle cell. I ain't had a sickle cell. I thought I did. I know, that's what I'm saying. I've never played in Denver and not come home pissing blood. That's crazy. Yeah, I don't know what that symptom is. My body is fighting like hell. It's leaking protein everywhere. That's like what the blood thing is and all that, dude. It's like crazy. All these good doctors you got, nobody knows what's going on? I got doctors and they know what's going on, but basically it's overexertion, they said. Okay, okay. And I'm not getting, I guess, either enough oxygen or whatever it is through the air to pick up from, you know, whatever I got going on in my body.

50:34James Harrison:It's like, you know, you got to realize something. There's a lot of muscle here that, you know, need oxygen. Then you go and short the oxygen on this, Joe? You can't short oxygen on that. How your biceps going to blow up? You can't, bro. That need oxygen, bro. Like, I'm in here right now, and you know, I ain't supposed to tell nobody this, bro. I run oxygen in my house, you know what I'm saying, just because I got so much muscle. You know what I'm saying? Extra. That's the right way to go. Sure. Big giant tank's about 10 feet tall. Maybe eight. You know they be running oxygen. I'm running oxygen.

51:08James Harrison:I ain't really running oxygen. You be lying to me. I thought you were telling me. I know you would have believed it, so I know I had to tell you I was lying. I was like this. I was like, damn, G-Bone. Because I do got a couple little tanks, but they ain't, you know, that ain't for that, though. Go on, because I know a fact. They be running oxygen through the casinos to keep people awake. See, I can't go to the casino because I know, Joe, me and the casino, don't belong. Not friends. Oh, we ain't friends. You know why we ain't friends, Joe? I don't want to do a casino like that. I try to stay away.

51:41James Harrison:Me and this casino ain't friends because I'm one of them dummies that go in there and say, I'm going to break the casino. Oh, man. Listen, I'm so stubborn. I could probably get up by four or five million and not stop because I feel like I could break them to where they ain't going to have enough money to pay me. That's, yeah, Debo, you go in there, you're doing it with the wrong plan. I'm gambling like that, bro. Smart man. Smart man. Smart man. If you can't get out, don't do it. Bro, when I'm in Vegas, bro, I'm eating all the steaks I can get to. I got a little bit of family out there. I see my little nephew and all that, you know, his fam.

52:32James Harrison:But other than that, bro, I'm going to hit the steak houses. Wherever y 'all set the good steak at, I'm going to go ahead and hit it. That's going to be my thing. That's how I'm going to gamble. No, for sure. I'm going to waste good money on good food. Man, yes, a thousand percent. You got to go out there, eat good. Eat good, go to a good show. Boom. For sure. Good to go. I ain't going to lie. I ain't never been to a show, though. Oh, man, I've been to a couple of shows. Me and my lady, we go out that thing, go get some food, go to a show. And especially now, the sphere, whatever that little ball joint is, the ball.

53:06James Harrison:They got fire shows in there. So, yeah, going that. If you go to Vegas, go to the show, it's fear. Fire. See, I don't do the shows. I ain't never did the show. That's the thing, too. I've only been to Vegas, like, maybe two or three times that. And I'm like, you know, me, I'm, you know, I can't really get the kind of gym that I want or I don't know where it's at. You know what I'm saying? Because I just, like, I'm in and out. I'm like two days in and out. Yeah, no, that's all you need. That's all you need. You don't got to stay long. Yeah, like, I'm like, dude, I can't get to the gym. Like, I can't, you know.

53:42James Harrison:I'm going to get you a nice gym and the five steakhouses. That's it. That's all I need. That's all I need. That's all I need, bro. That's all I need. The Steelers, brother, predicted to trade TJ Watt to ensure Nick Herbick's extension. Joe, I don't know about that. What do you think? What do you think of that? possibilities of them Steelers trading TJ to ensure Herbert. What do you think, Joe? With the Pittsburgh Steelers specifically, I wouldn't think that this is going to happen. For one thing, the loyalty that they have to their great players, I mean, I think from the beginning that TJ Watt is one of those guys, he's been balling for a while.

54:29James Harrison:I think coming up on this year, there's certain times where you gotta end up, you gotta hoop. You know what I'm saying? He's been balling his whole career. Some years he finally got injured, had a down year. And then when the money is what the money is, people are always instantly like, what can we go get for this dude? He's getting older in his career. But for me, when I look at dudes like TJ Watt, it just speaks to locker room. It speaks to this is the kind of guy that you want on your team. His contract is because he's been to so many Pro Bowls. His contract is what it is because of what he's done.

55:00James Harrison:It's not like we're overpaying the guy. Dudes now are making$40 million a year where now he's making that$32 million for the next two seasons. It's not like he's outkicked the market. Market, new DMs are coming in. Well, still in a sense, he's still hitting a cap for 42 though. So you might as well say it's 42. I hear you. Okay, the cap of the 42. But I'm saying if you have great players, that's what great players do. Like they're going to make the highest of the market. So I understand when you got dudes on your team for a longer time, you start getting used to that, if I'm the Steelers and I know I want him on my team, it's a locker room dude.

55:34James Harrison:He was drafted here. He hasn't done anything wrong. He's just, he's a staple of the team, like a Cam Hayward. The same way when you had those ballers, you had those dudes that continue to perform. Our great locker room dudes are not getting in the way. Their contracts are what it is because of their consistent play, not only on, off the field, they're just great dudes that you want to have around. I don't think TJ's one of those dudes. you just get rid of them for no reason. There's no crazy stuff going on. So I think there's always, you know, it's good problems to have when you have the Joey Porter Jr.

56:04James Harrison:is coming up that, you know, you got to pay. When you have the Nick Herbics, when you did draft well, we have like we have Highsmith is there also. I looking at, there's a way that we can figure something out. I don't think it's a way that we can figure that out. I hate to say that. Put your GM hat on, Joe. You're speaking as a fan. Put your GM hat on. Yeah. You got you a new head coach. T.J. Watt is what? You know what? Matter of fact, let me finish my piece. You said the one thing that makes the most sense, too, when the new coach comes in and then he didn't sign that deal and T.J. Watt is all good for everybody else.

56:44James Harrison:Cam, the older guys that were there for the other regimes, that is also a really, really, really good point because when the new coach, they don't owe nobody nothing. They like, I can go do some new. That is a, that's another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. 1:00:41the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randle. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.

1:01:04James Harrison:Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hair get the flying he running up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball like after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah you figure it out real quick get your ass up and down the court and you gonna get the ball so listen to point game on the iHeart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts 42 to the cap we can go make some moves love tj love what he's done but he is getting older you make a great point on that side when you do put it into new coaches and stuff coming in. So, yeah, go ahead. So, I put my GM hat on.

1:01:38And I don't see it happening because of the cap hit of$42 million

1:01:45James Harrison:and his sack numbers from last season. Now, 2024, he had, I believe, 11 and a half. That's a good year. 25, it was seven. He missed the games because of injuries, all that. Okay. 24 was a good year numbers-wise. But when you're being paid top money, fans expect top numbers. Right. And last year he was down. Now, I feel he is worth the money because I can see and understand his impact as a player that's not just by the numbers, but this impact of what he does just from being on the field, the opportunities that it opens up for other guys when TJ has two guys assigned to him, you know, every snap.

1:02:39James Harrison:So that gives other guys more opportunities. Yes. To have the one-on-ones and go and be able to make plays. Now, again, he's getting chipped too. What does that do? So he's getting, sometimes he's getting doubled and he's getting chipped. So now not only are they taking two, now they're slowing a guy down from being able to get out into his route. And if the quarterback ends up needing to use that guy, he's going to have to wait a snap longer or a hair longer for that guy to get open because he has to bump and chip TJ on his way out. Which means, again, it's going to give other players more time to get to that sack.

1:03:20James Harrison:So I understand all that. But the biggest issue is, again, why I don't see it happening is that it's not going to be another team out there that's going to make this trade and then try to reason and explain to fans that the$42 million hit is worth what they're looking at, which would only be seven sacks from last year. Okay? Yeah. No, he's not going to be able to sit there and be able to understand or explain, you know, the intangible values of the things that, you know, he could bring because, you know, of who he is and what that would mean to offenses. You know, the same way Cincinnati. Cincinnati just picked up Dexter Lawrence.

1:04:11James Harrison:I mean, I had a half sack. I can't understand. But they can. I never really watched him like that but I'm looking at half sack and I'm like whoa we gave up the first round for half sack you see what I'm saying yeah you'll be thinking that he's plugging up stuff he's giving other people opportunities something like that but again am I giving up a first to plug up stuff for a guy who I've seen had 11 something sacks whatever before that or whatever it was and then like I'm not I don't I'm if I know what's going on But from the outside, as they would have to explain to all these fans and people who are going to be, you know, raising their voice, that's not that's not something they're going to be able to like.

1:04:53James Harrison:Oh, yeah. But it's because it's not they want to look and say, oh, my goodness, we're getting a guy that had 20 sacks. We're getting a guy that had 18 sacks. We're getting a guy that had 17 sacks. You know what I'm saying? That's that's what they want to look for. And, you know, another thing is, dude, it's heavenly dependent on how it is they see Nick Herbick. And if they see him like as the future of being, you know, one of their outside guys, because his agent has already said he sees him as one of the top. That means you're going to have to pay him top money. He's not going to take anything less.

1:05:32James Harrison:And we cannot give top money to three, three linebackers, brother. So if they know that or don't know whatever that process is, if they know and it's like, yo, he's going to be that and they give him top money, then something has to be done. And if a trade is possible, like say a trade became possible and, you know, it's on the table and it's a team that's ready to trade for TJ, then I'm going to be honest. As a GM, you would have to sit there and be like, yo, let me listen to at least what they're saying to investigate the possibilities of it. Because, hell, you got a whole new staff. You got a new offense.

1:06:25James Harrison:You got a new defense. you got new coordinators you got you you got you got new everything and now you know tj is what 32 33 something like that i don't know uh and and you're talking you know being attached to another what is it i think it's two years it would be two two years yeah so it would be two years each at 32 or 42 32 a year 42 to the cap um and then i believe uh high smith is a little younger i think he has a couple years left and if that's the case like what are they looking at for future like we got to start getting younger at some point so if Sawyer is is the guy that's after that like is it now you know uh Herbick that's coming with Sawyer being the thing with Highsmith staying there and then transitioning through like and and and you know picking up somebody in the draft later uh you know next year or however that process would be like you know if it's me like right now I just I have to make a option or I have to make a decision because Nick Herbert is not going to sign a contract that is not top dollar.

1:07:37James Harrison:His agent has made that very clear. So... We got to figure out what the top dollar is because is it$40 million a year? You got to understand something. Even if it's not$40 million a year, it's still going to be at least$20. 20 okay but then you're talking about you can pay 20 40 and 20 they go 80 for three players i'm saying it's more of a no i'm not saying all three i'm saying i'm not moving tj i'm thinking more of this is a high smith um right that's what i'm saying so it comes down to i'm saying if somebody were to come into the situation and say hey we want tj we want to trade for him now it would be more of a situation of okay what do we get for him yeah versus you know the other way I think is easier because it's a smaller number and it's still a very good player so the numbers of the money and the numbers of the play are very you know they coordinate a whole lot better than what people would be looking at versus TJ's and his number you see what I'm saying I hear what his, yes, I hear what his agent is talking about, Herbix, because I'm looking at it like, do you think he's saying he's trying to go get one of the highest deals?

1:09:00James Harrison:I'm not saying he's trying to get the highest deal, but he's saying that his top three up there, just up there in a good deal. All I'm saying is, what is he comparing a good deal to being in a situation of not leaving Pittsburgh? I'm thinking, is Herbix going to sign a deal? No, Herbix, listen, this is where your agent plays the bad guy. I'm saying not like Highsmith's deal, but at the same time, when Highsmith signed his contract, that was a pretty good deal. It wasn't the top of the outside linebackers, but it was a solid number. He's going to stay in Pittsburgh, be able to get a nice deal. He's making$17,$18 million a year.

1:09:37James Harrison:And when was that? Probably three years ago. So now, even if he was to take something close to that, we're looking at what, at least$23? He's around$23, you know what I'm saying? But that's where I'm saying I'm not mad at Herbert making the 20, trying to get the 23 where the highest paid guys is 40 is what Watt's making. And I like Watt. I think Watt's going to stay. I don't think we should move Watt. I think Watt's going to – he's healed up. He's going to come out there and perform. And everything that he does is more than what just trying to trade him. And I don't think we'll get the value from other teams that will be good enough for TJ Watt.

1:10:15James Harrison:He's good enough. I love him. I think he can help us out. when I'm looking at Herbic, I understand what his agent's trying to get in that bag. Highest number is around 40. I'm looking at is it going to be more like the Highsmith deal where say at 23 now at the market? Honestly, honestly, if I'm his agent, if you're his agent, I've seen you do things that are very, very, very, very good. And if you have the opportunity, as his agent said, to be a full-time starter, oh, it's no real limit to how much better of a player and how much more he can improve so for me bro I'm not letting him sign nothing that ain't at least giving him 50 guaranteed in the first two years yeah that's minimum now if you the GM and I'm saying I ain't letting him sign nothing less than 50 guaranteed in the first two years with I'm gonna do something else on the back end that's gonna be like okay it's 50 guaranteed in the first two years and and and after that second year come uh you know the first week of what's the name his you know third year is guaranteed if he's still on the roster so basically I'm guaranteed in this first three so basically 75 so basically though the onus for the stealer that'd be a two for 50 because then you can keep if you don't want to do anything after, you can let him slide or he could be able to be a free agent.

1:11:47James Harrison:Or, well, also, I would make the number higher after the end because I'm expecting my player to get better and better to where, like, okay, guys are now making 50, and I'm going to make his number to, like, 32, 35. Yeah, okay. You see what I'm saying? Like, you got to sign this whole deal. Four years. Four years for 120 with 50 guaranteed in the first. So that's why the first two years would be the 50, and then the next two could average out to around, you know what I'm saying, 30 a year. It's just all dependent on, you know, like, because you got to realize, like, he goes into this year and they make him play any part of this year, bruh, before he signs a deal or they get him a deal and he continues to play and play well, that number's just going to keep going up.

1:12:41James Harrison:And he'd be unrestricted? That's unrestricted. Yeah, they would have to do something they got before. Like a bird in the hand, dude. Like I know what I have here. Like I know what I have here. I know what kind of player he is.

1:12:58James Harrison:Yeah. We're going to see what them did. While training camp is happening, I know it's going to be my main two players is looking at little nephew and her to see what to get those extensions. For sure. But my thing right now, too, is though, you still got to get nephew. You got to get Herbert. We was the highest paid defense last year. Like, where's all this money coming from, bro? Brother, don't. Oh, my. I'm telling you, the money, they going to move. You can move it around all you want to, bro. You can't commit more of it, though. I'm telling you. That's going to be hard work. Look at it. It's, I think, like 42, TJ, I think Smith is like 17, 18.

1:13:52I think, what's his name?

1:13:56James Harrison:The other linebacker inside. I think he's like 17, 18. I think Cam is another 17, 18. like you know cap ain't nothing but like three and some chains bro they go 100 something and five then the offense go to the offensive side what is it DK Pittman and

1:14:24James Harrison:Frymouth I think his number's up there Frymouth

1:14:30yeah

1:14:31James Harrison:like Boz just got Bazzi's got him a little grip, too. They, I'm trying to tell you, don't worry about these people. Just get as many good players as you can. I'm telling you, they're going to be able to pay for it. They're going to make it happen. Money is going to be moved around. Some people are going to get stuff guaranteed. Some people are going to get a signing bonus. Jalen Ramsey could call. He got the bag out there, too. Deservingly so. Keep Jalen. Don't move. Love him back there for the secondary. communicating and he's a baller. Like you said, Debo, our ballers got a ball. So I'm not wanting to move around, trade none of these dudes and say, oh no, oh, long in the tooth.

1:15:12James Harrison:I don't give a damn. Long in the tooth, these dudes can hoop. They can, as long as we out there now communicating, Jalen Ramsey's a baller, TJ's a baller. We're going to get them out there and now we're going to evaluate. So we're just trying to talk the numbers wise about crunching it. But our thing is if we can, we don't want to have to get rid of talent. But when dudes are balling like this and Herb talking about trying to get 30 a year, deservingly so from your age and everything, but we got to fit that all in the puzzle piece of the Steelers' defense and keeping everybody. It ain't about him making that fit into the puzzle piece.

1:15:42James Harrison:It's about him getting as much as he can. No, no, no, no, no. I'm talking about as an owner. I'm talking about as Omar. I mean, but that's what I'm saying. Omar trying to get the piece. You can try and puzzle piece all you want, man. You know the reality of what it is, bro, when you start talking about it. A thousand percent, D-Vo. You know what I'm saying? A thousand percent. Sometimes you can't keep some people. because of where you see them at and where they could actually be at if they were given a full opportunity. Like, it's no way. I just don't, I just don't, I don't, I don't see it happening where he would even advise him to take something that's not starter pay.
