In short

Pittsburgh Steelers offseason talk—why Joey Porter Jr. is still unsigned, what the Steelers might be waiting on, and QB2 competition between Drew Allar and Will Howard. They also debate the new Huntington Bank Field (Cleveland’s dome/turf) and discuss preseason/rookie mindset.

Guests

No guests appear in the transcript. Hosts are James “Debo” Harrison and Joe Hayden.

Guest backgrounds

N/A (no guests).

Key claims

  • Steelers should pay Porter Jr.; hosts compare his production (3 picks, improving coverage) to other paid defenders and argue the market is rising.
  • Best/worst-case contract scenarios: Porter could play out the year or be traded if no deal; Steelers’ worst case is he doesn’t play and they must trade for value.
  • Mike McCarthy meeting with Allar and Howard is framed as quarterback coaching/encouragement, not a sign of cutting one.

Notable examples

  • Contract figures mentioned: Witherspoon $132M; Benton $72M; Herbig deal discussed as ~$20M/year; Washington ~$42M/year; Porter market rumored around $28–33M (unconfirmed).
  • Stadium debate: Huntington Bank Field planned for 2029, ~67,000 seats, dome/turf; hosts argue dome removes cold-weather home advantage.

3:59James Harrison:Welcome back to this episode of Debo and Joe. I'm your host, James Debo Harrison, and I'm here with my co-host, Joe Hayden. Please make sure you like, subscribe, and download where you get your show. Hey, hey, hey, how you doing today, Joe? Brother Debo, I'm doing great. I'm doing good. You know, I'm still out on Myrtle Beach. You know what I'm saying? I gave you a little bit more of the visual so you didn't think I was in jail. You know what I'm saying? Okay, okay. Gave you a little bit more. Got little birds. You got little birds, you know what I'm saying? Little beach vibes. What are those called?

4:34James Harrison:What kind of birds are those? I have no idea. I have no idea. You don't know? No idea. Just little regular, little chill birds. Looks like, it looks like gulls to me, Joe. Gulls. Okay. Not seagulls. They're not called seagulls anymore. They're just called gulls. Okay. I wanted to let the crowd, I wanted to let, thank you, D-Bo, but I wanted to let the people know I'm not normally used to just admitting defeat. We had a little contest going on. You was going to wear hats. I was going to wear jerseys. And you have gave me belt. You have been rocking a different hat every single show. And I wanted to give you kudos, my brother, because I'm out here at Myrtle.

5:12James Harrison:I didn't bring another jersey. It's been a lot of episodes. But you know what? It's not here nor there. It is here to tell. I'm here to tell you. You've been rocking fire hats for the last, I don't know, 70 shows in a row. And I just wanted to let you know I see you, my brother. And you're here with another one. You're here with another one. I appreciate you, baby. I appreciate you for that. You know what I'm saying? I got another maybe 10 or 12 to go. You know what I'm saying? I got to find some mo too. You know what I'm saying? I might have to go ahead and get something made up myself. You know, make it my own.

5:40James Harrison:I don't know. You know, I just don't know. I can't stop. Can't stop, won't stop. D-Bo and Joe's shirt looking fresh too. D-Bo and Joe's shirt looking clean. Ain't it clean? Come on. Ain't it clean? Come on, man. Look, I'm going to get my jerseys back ready for when the season starts. I'm going to start back up with a new rotation. New rotation. It's been a lot of episodes. So now I'm recycling gear. So I got to tighten up. I'm going to have to recycle here probably in about another, you know, about another maybe 8 to 10, maybe 12. I'm going to have to go on ahead back. You know what I'm saying?

6:12James Harrison:You have not done it once yet, though. So I just want to let you know. I see you, Coach. Not yet. Not yet.

6:20James Harrison:I know what they ain't done yet neither, man, is they ain't paid. My God. My nephew. That's what. Joey Porter. Jr. He still remains unsigned this year. Joe, what they doing? What's going on? What's the whole lot? I hope it's the same way when I was there and they kept on talking about TJ wasn't going to get paid. They were so far away. They're so far apart. And at the end of the day, it is what it is. You know, he's done everything he needed to do to be on the team. The numbers are the numbers. They start seeing Witherspoon signed for$132 million. And at the end of the day, Witherspoon has two interceptions in his career.

7:01James Harrison:Not knocking it. He's been to three po' bowls. He's an amazing corner, top flight. But at the same time, Joey Porter has three picks. And the one thing I'm saying about a little bit of holding earlier in his career, it's gone down every single year. And now I feel like that's not something that we've been talking about. He's been limiting. When you have number one receivers, he's been following them for the last two years. And they're not giving up any touchdowns. That's something that he's actually done so for me i'm looking at it like it's not i hope it's not as if it's not if but when i hope it's in the tj situation where oh man nobody's talking we're looking at t like man i'm like tj it's just too obvious you're not going nowhere they're going to give you the bag it's going to when the season's up like it's going to end up meeting so i'm hoping that that's the case but they're giving away like you said all of his classmates is getting the bag and you always are telling me debo where it's gonna come from i'm always the one that's thinking like you know what if it's gonna happen it's gonna be a way they're gonna find some bags for joey porter they're gonna guarantee some stuff move some things around because he's in the future so when you're saying you're making it good points darnell washington got his 42 my man nick herbick deserving got his 100 you know i'm saying and then uh benton got 70 got 80 what is it 7 to 18 a year so it's like they're giving out good bag to people that are deserving but they're they're not in the starting role that Joey Porter's in.

8:22James Harrison:They're not the number one corner on the squad. We got backup. Not backup, but Herbig is going to be a great outside linebacker. It's just he hasn't been able to play as much, but that's 25 a year right there. And what have you done for me lately? He got 25? I thought he got like maybe 18 or something. 25 for Herbig. It's four years,$100 million. 25 per. Are you serious? Yes, sir, Debo. I don't think that was it. I thought it was an extension. Debo, trust me, coach. I thought it was five. It ended up being a$500 ,000 for$400 ,000. $500 ,000. Was it 20 a year? The total was$500 ,000 for$100 ,000.

8:56James Harrison:Okay. Total$500 ,000 for$100 ,000, which is$20 million a year there. So I thought it was a four-year extension for$100 ,000, which was$25 ,000. $500 ,000 for$200 ,000,$200 ,000, however you want to put it. Tomato, tomato. That's that dough that's not going to be easy. No, bro, you're right. It was$400 ,000. It's$400 ,000, period. Yeah,$25 ,000. It's$400 ,000. Yeah, it's$400 ,000. Yes, sir. So that's what I'm saying, because the market is - because the defense of the other ends, you got dudes making 40, TJ. You got Miles Garrett. And then we got my man from Hunter from out in Texas making like 42 a year.

9:32James Harrison:So when you get those numbers, it's like, okay, Herbic at 25 for sure. It's a good number right now. Same way I'm looking at Joey Porter Jr. 30 is going to look good because in two years when the next corners are coming up, they're going to beat out Witherspoons because Witherspoons numbers are solid. Two picks, you know what I'm saying? They know he has a future. He's three Pro Bowls. He's locking up for sure. But there's going to be the next corner that's coming up is going to be, they're going to win 35. So I'm like, I'm hoping that Omar and them are understanding. They get it. They know what the hell's going on.

10:03James Harrison:They know what the market is. They know what people are getting paid out here. So the same way I'm looking at it, when TJ was there and we like, oh, they're so far apart, they're not talking about nothing. I'm like, wait until it gets to the season. It doesn't make sense for you not to be there. You've done everything right. You know what I'm saying? you are a stealer you want to be here so like it looks crazy but i hope it gets done yeah i'm i'm with you yeah that was i mean you got 70 well they just gave benton 72 four years 72 nick already uh herbert already had the four 400 and then washington got the four for 42 so i dude i really don't know i can't i can't i don't know what they're waiting on um that makes me go to, it makes me start thinking, I know, I know, I know.

10:54James Harrison:And you know, when you start thinking, Joe, when I start thinking, I got, I got, I got to think. And to get clarity in my thoughts, I got to look at it from all positions. I got to look at it from all sides though. You have to, because when you start to look like, when we talked to Andrew Barry yesterday, when we talked about the GMs and how they're just from the top, always trying to look about how they're going to be able to make the team better. Is this dollar going to Asante Samuel Jr. is balling. He was a first-round pick. And with his spinal stuff is looking right, you got a corner that he's going to be wanting to get the bag to, playing for$4 million, deservingly so, can be a starting quarterback in this league.

11:32James Harrison:You got Sean Dean making 12 and a half a year right now. So it's like, I don't want to start thinking about that either. Because when you start talking about the GMs, they're like, okay, what is he doing right here? okay, maybe we can make something shake. I don't know. I don't want that to be the possibility. I want us to have Asante Samuel. I want us to have Dean. And I want us to have Joey Porter Jr. And then we can figure it out how the season goes with them as our corners. But I don't want you to start thinking, Debo, because I know what you're talking about. If they ain't getting in the bag, what's going to happen?

12:04James Harrison:If they ain't getting in the bag, then here's the problem. What's up? I'm putting my GM hat on and I'm gonna go through the best case scenario for me as a GM and the worst case scenario for me as a GM. Okay. What's your best case scenario? I'm gonna go through the best case scenario for me if I'm nephew and the worst case scenario for me if I'm nephew. So if I'm sitting here and I'm gonna put my GM hat on and I ain't gave this, I ain't gave this man a deal yet i'm thinking best case scenario we get to the season and he says you know what i'm gonna play this year out and finish this one year of this contract and that's my best hope as a gm that'd be perfect right i ain't gotta do nothing i can wait i ain't gotta worry about a cap thing or nothing like that right yeah well what's what's what's nephew's best hope his best hope done passed already.

13:02James Harrison:It's gone. And that was to get a contract before OTAs was done. For sure, for sure. So he got to go to worst case for him. It's still best case. Before the season starts. Before first game. We still got until game one. And I'm still telling you, that's not a worst case scenario, Joe. His best case was I wanted it before OTAs. Yes. Yes. That was the hope. It was never said, but that was the hope. Yes. So now you got to go with worst case. What's the worst case? Worst case is he doesn't get a deal and he ends up getting traded. That's worst case for him. But he still goes and gets his money somewhere else.

13:51James Harrison:So right now, if I'm him, it ain't no way on God's green earth. you go get me to practice one snap, let alone playing a game before you give me a long term contract. I'm not going to go out there and take a chance of popping something, tearing something, all that. Because if I do, you damn sure ain't going to get a man a contract. Then you just put that when you didn't even give the tackle his his his option. We know that that's business. Yes. Now, that's nephew. That's his worst case. Obviously, that must be where he's like, okay, I can take that worst case. So now I got to flip back to the Steelers and I put my GM hat back on.

14:35James Harrison:What's my worst case as a GM? My worst case scenario as a GM is he doesn't play. That's my worst case scenario. He doesn't play. And I have to trade him sometime before the deadline because he doesn't even dress or play for the season. and I got to get some kind of value from him. Okay? That's the worst case scenario. As a GM, and you have either accepted that or you're saying, I'm going to get something done in the 12th hour. Otherwise, you're out here playing Russian roulette and hoping that the bullet don't go off when you pull the trigger. Because like... I'm Hoda Kotb, host of the podcast Joy 101 with Hoda Kotb.

15:26If you know me, you know I'm always searching for inspiration and useful tools to maximize joy. So this podcast lets us uncover those things together through meaningful conversations with fascinating people. Like when my friend Henry Winkler offered advice to aspiring actors and really anybody hoping to stand out. You're not hired just to fill time and space. You're hired to fill the space with you. You have something in your guts. You go with it. And Shawn Johnson recalled the moment she realized her now husband, Andrew, was the one. He was just so unapologetically himself and knew nothing of Hollywood.

I'm Nancy Glass, host of the Burden of Guilt Season 3 podcast. This is a story about a horrendous situation that destroyed two families. It started more than seven years ago when Cindy and Kenny were two 40-somethings who had just gotten engaged. Days later, they walked into a scorched-earth war they never saw coming.

16:45James Harrison:Turn around and place your hands behind your back. The cops came into my house and threw me in jail. And to Cindy's surprise, her fiance, Kenny, was charged with abusing one of her children. I never once doubted Kenny, and I always doubted the accusation. On Season 3 of Burden of Guilt, you'll hear a story about the lengths someone will go to in order to get what they want. This case has got to be one of the most despicable. 17:41pops up is pioneers in Appalachia. But they weren't just planting houses. We need cities on a shining hill that exemplify and embody the Christian way of life. Stop right there. Is that normal? A podcast about what happens when a small town becomes the site of a social experiment. God need men to rule. Great. And decides to fight back. Do not use my hard work to sell your bull****. They're not just opposing what's being planned for here. Our hometown is not a test tube. They feel like they're standing in opposition to an entire administration. Guess you didn't move in on a bunch of dumb hillbillies now, did you?

18:20Listen to Our Town on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Munga Shatigular, and I'm back with a new season of the podcast Skyline Drive. This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood boys, blue zones, and brain replacement to try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever for all of us. I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you, and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain, as opposed to his brain. Here are some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost a four to five year acceleration.

19:10And get myself into a world of trouble. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know. 20:06I was just like, hell no. This is a space where moms treat their highlight reel for the real real. 20:27James Harrison:You said they done gave. Benton, they just gave Benton his deal before that they had gave Washington his. Herbert his. Yeah. Now with Witherspoon, he done inflated the market so crazy. It's 33 now. So like what we were talking before, 25 something like, no, it's like 28, 29 now. Like if you lucky and that's just, just hoping that, I don't know, dude, like, like, like, like, like, like it would work out. So, but again, I'm looking at it. I'm looking at the same thing, bro. Like, okay. Like if he won't 30, they saying he won't 30, all that. So I started looking like, okay, where is it at? You know, where to say he won't 30 at, bro.

21:16James Harrison:it was a rumor from a unknown gm a former gm i take that back it was a former gm that said it was reported that uh contract uh the contract ass um got a harsh pushback i guess from a former from a former nfl gm not our gm not nobody else yeah from nobody connected to the stillers and And that was where the 30 came from, where they said he wanted to be a 30. This is not even confirmed from anywhere. So I started looking. I'm like, yo, where did nephew or his agent say they want 30, bro? Like, where is it that they said they want 30 at? Everything points right back to this rumor from this former GM.

22:01Like, I'm like, dude, like, what is going on?

22:05James Harrison:Like, all this stuff is from a rumor mill. So I'm like, you know what, man? What about the 25 and all the other stuff? You know, what happened to the 25 he was supposed to get in all that? Like what ain't no, wasn't no offer for no 25. That's a, that's a rumor too. And it wasn't no thing for no 30. Everything points back to this former GM who made up a rumor or said it was something that, that happened that nobody has actual factual information on. Distillers don't have nothing that, that came out and said they offered this or they offered that. Troy don't have nothing and his people don't have nothing that came out and said, we want this and we want that.

22:40James Harrison:What is going on? like i don't understand what's going on here and we still ain't got a deal done and we got what six five million dollars left on cap so if i'm looking at it through the eyes of nephew i'm like okay i see you move cool i would love to be here but i understand it's business and i may have to go somewhere else to get that paper. Right. Debo, I hear you. I hear you a thousand percent. I'm just trying to stay on the, everything you're saying makes complete sense. But the only reason why I'm looking at it like this is trying to stay as positive is because of who Joey Porter Jr. is and what he means to the team.

23:27James Harrison:I think he's going to be a legit top five corner in the league for the future. He's not doing nothing but getting better. All he's done in this first season. that, bro, but look how much he done missed. Look how much time he done missed. I understand. Get back into all that other stuff, dude. We got a new staff. We got a new scheme. We got a lot of stuff going on here. But at the same time, when you're seeing a bunch of people like... And the cap number. The cap number. Where the money going to come from? Say, okay, say we're playing the 12th hour and we're going to go ahead and lace him right before.

23:59James Harrison:Where the money at, y 'all? Look, I'm going to tell you, on Friday. Exactly how we could be able to get Joey Porter the money and whose money would be able to get moved around and where we have to put it to. I know it's possible. I know it's possible. That's why I'm looking at... When anybody was supposed to get the bag and like, how? There's no money. They're going to be able to make money for certain players because he's going to be there for the future. The only thing that makes me question a whole lot is that the money, I'm not seeing the money. I'm not seeing where it's coming from, bro. And you done paid three other people.

24:42James Harrison:You done dropped off, what is that, $212 million,$14 million? Only reason why I'm saying that, because it's like you said, Debo. I mean, Joey Porter Jr., I don't think, this is not coming from him. This is coming strictly from me. I'm not seeing for him to go in there and play this, for$4 million. Are you? You're telling him to do what? I said I'm not seeing him in the first season going and playing this year for$4 million. Listen, listen. That's blood to me. Nephew, I'm sorry. I love the Steelers. No, definitely. You are mine. You are family. You are blood. Listen. No. Take care of home. No, for sure.

25:31James Harrison:I can't have you out there running around, taking a chance on popping snob. No, no. A thousand percent. That's why I want you to go ahead and say that. Like, what are we talking about? I can't. I'll be. Now, if I'm the GM, I might be telling you a little bit of any and everything to get you to do something. I ain't going to lie to you. Yeah. But as, hey, nephew, man. Hell, his daddy, I bet you his daddy ain't telling him nothing about stepping on that field. Man, no. I do not. Do not. No. I'm for the Steelers, but I am not at the expense of my family losing in any possibility. He did it for the three years.

26:12James Harrison:That was the play. That's what you got. He got paid that$9 million from what he did at Penn State. The last three years is what he's getting this next contract for. So it's like that's why I'm feeling with him. You don't have to go onto the field because now you outplayed this contract that we're talking about right now, that rookie deal, that thing is basically shredded up because it's for, you know what I'm saying? Where are you sitting with the team now? Listen, what do you want him to do? He improved every year. He improved every year. Ain't gave up a tutty. Locked it down. What you want him to do, bro?

26:45James Harrison:What else? You want him to start like just maintaining the field or something? I don't know. That's why I believe that. Oh, I think I'm believing in the Steelers because they drafted him. He's homegrown and there's going to be a way to figure it out, Debo. I'm going to come with a way with how I think they could finagle it. But I know it's possible, bro. It can't not be. Okay. Hopefully, man. Like I said, the numbers, I don't see the numbers. That's the only thing I'm more worried about than anything else is I don't see where the numbers come at. So, you know, Mike McCarthy says as soon as he breaks camp that he was meeting with Will Howard and Drew Allard.

27:32James Harrison:I mean, sorry, Will Howard and Drew Allard. They have an actual little tweet here. But this is what I did, Joe. What'd you do? I had to go and look at it because it was from his – the tweet is in reference to his press conference yesterday. today. So, you know, you get a little better understanding than the tweet. You gotta go listen to the actual press conference. He's just saying, you know, he got two fine young quarterbacks there. And I think they broke camp early, too. And he's just probably meeting with them to I don't know. What do you think he's meeting with them for, Joe? What do you think he's meeting with his two young quarterback, Joe?

28:13James Harrison:What do you got going on? You know, just motivating them. Tell them that you know that he likes what he's saying keep it going keep keep fighting we got aaron rogers obviously you're not going to be this is just learn do what you got to do and be able to be ready when your number is called because we don't know if anything happens y 'all can be right up next so i think he just you know just a good coach hollering at his quarterbacks and with drew aller and with will howard i can tell just from what everybody's been talking about with penn state his footwork, his mechanics, just from the last thing, he just looks more comfortable.

28:47James Harrison:He looks like he's been working with somebody that's been helping him with his footwork, helping him with the mechanics, helping him to develop as a quarterback. So if we got Mike McCarthy, he knows he had A-Rod. He's been kicking him in for a long time. The thing is, if you got an offense running and you see these two young quarterbacks that you see some potential in, giving them a little pat on the back. Let them know like, boom, that's good. It's good to let them know, boom, I see you. You know what I'm saying? But like, there's definitely work to be done. But always, like, it's cool to have that, I think.

29:14James Harrison:So I think Martin McCarthy's doing a good job because he's a quarterback guy. The offense has been looking pretty good, and that's just what he does. If he didn't talk to the quarterbacks, it's cool. But your coach hollering at the quarterback, your young dudes that we see potential in, yes, coach. That's good. All good signs. Yeah, I ain't tripping on it. Everybody, you know, you got some people thinking that. They're trying to see who they're going to keep and release, boy. they just broke him. He going back. They asked him a question. Like, why did he even say it? Because you were talking about his quarterback.

29:50James Harrison:That's why he said it. Like, he was like, hey, yeah, I'm actually going to meet with both those guys, you know? Actually giving y 'all a little bit of insight. Actually trying to be cool. Let y 'all know what's up. Yeah, yeah. So, nah, it ain't nothing like that, man. Like, get over the... That ain't it. No, no, no. That ain't it. Keep them both. Who gonna be number two? man, look, you worry about the wrong thing. We got road camp early because the weather was having an issue. They know they got the indoor facility. They get down there and get some more work in. They can make it up instead of sitting there waiting, doing all the other stuff.

30:23James Harrison:You can get to a real indoor and get indoor over there wasn't sufficient. It's a walk-through indoor. It's a walk-through indoor. Yes. Yes. Definitely, definitely walk-through indoor. Speaking of indoor, oh, new domes. stadium revealed in close up photos and video. Yeah.

30:51James Harrison:Whatever. You can't even hate. Oh, I can hate. I know you're going to find a way to hate. I know you're going to find a... You saying I can't hate? You about to fire my dome up? You about to fire the dome up? Listen, Joe. What's up? Tell me what your thoughts is on the new stadium. Then I'm going to tell you what my thoughts are. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I want to hear you first, D-Bone. Uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh. Hell no. You tell me. Go ahead. Go ahead. Talk about our stadium. JoJo. JoJo. You tell me. Go ahead. Pop-o. What you don't like about it? Hey. Hey, Joe. You want to know what I don't like about the - Yeah, please.

31:29James Harrison:Come on. The new - We got time. Listen. Listen. The new Huntington Bank Field. Yes. it's going to be 67 ,000 plus sorry 67 ,000 plus seats it's set to open was it 2029 and it's currently 2.6 billion okay they are already talking about Cleveland now can have major events this and that final four major concerts Super Bowl we can have everything. Yep. You plan on turf. Anyway, but

32:14James Harrison:it's got that one. Listen, listen, that's a closed. It's a closed. If we were in a closed in space when we lost to you guys and when it was real cold up there in Cleveland, you're losing that home advantage that you have. So remember when Miami would come up and y 'all would be like, They over there shaking cold. Y 'all go lose that. Because if y 'all had a dome when we was up there, because we was cold, we would have won. But we was too cold to be able to focus. Y 'all was just so hyped that y 'all actually had a chance to win that y 'all just, y 'all couldn't feel the cold. You were just out there just blind.

32:54Like, you know, the stadium, bro, it's cool.

33:01James Harrison:It's fine. I mean, it's cool. I mean, I looked at the master plan that they got there and the designs, all that other stuff. And, you know, like. Joe. Yes. It's fire, bro. Listen, Joe. I might. Hey, listen. I might be going to the Steelers game when they play the Browns in Cleveland. For sure. Joe. Joe. It's a whole thing, Joe. They got like 1 ,888 units of residential living over there, Joe. They got 300 ,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, entertainment. And listen, 552 hotel rooms, bruh. Hey, this ain't just a stadium, bruh. This a whole thing, brother. This a real development. Hey, listen.

33:53James Harrison:It's a little city. I'm just trying to tell you, bruh. It's a little brown town. It's a little town they named Brownstown. It's not just the stadium. You might have to go and just have me a little apartment up there and rent it just for the two games. The game, the one game we come up there and, you know, just going to slap y 'all around. That way I can get what I do. You know what I'm saying? I can get, you know. This is the thing. This is the thing. The stadium ain't going to be here for two more years. And that's just right enough time for our team to be right where we need to be. Like we said, I heard Andrew Barry.

34:27James Harrison:The young people are getting right here. Hold on, hold on. Getting the draft picks. Boom. We're going to be solid. By that time, and now we're going to be able to host the Super Bowl there. We're going to be able to host the Final Fours there. And when we have the Super Bowl team, we're going to be able to play in our stadium, in Brownstown that they built right there. So look at you. You already want to pull up. You already want to come to Cleveland now. So we're just going to have so many more people, so many more eyeballs watching us when we're turning up and spanking people all over the stadium.

35:00James Harrison:Because, look, the Vegas Raiders stadium, all these new stadiums are unbelievable. Old school stadiums. Spanking who? Who y 'all going to beat? It's so nice. Look, they need all the metal seats, all that bull. Oh, it's old school football. I don't want to hear none of that. I'm bougie now. We're going to these nice stadiums. It's going to be good weather. And we're going to watch these people play on the best conditions. moving around. Full speed. Best on best. Good on good. Right here. And we're going to be putting belt to Tushy in that new stadium. Do you hear me? By that time, Harold... I don't even want to play football outside no more, man.

35:39James Harrison:When the next time we go build a stadium that ain't got a roof on it, man? I'm going to tell you right now. Whenever the Steelers get a new stadium, if it's a dome, we done. We cooked. It's still a weather out here. The weather is going to give it advantage. Okay, I respect it, for sure. The weather is, okay, an advantage. But if you're going to have best on best, if this just, meet me on an even territory, and I feel like, no, it's not no footing. It's not no slipping. No, if you beat me on this fade ball, it's because you're better than me. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's why I could, like, when you rock with the Super Bowl, being on, who, Newt, Newt, turn it, lining up, who, I'm in your chest.

36:16James Harrison:I'm not slipping on no, I ain't got any of these long cleats on now, looking crazy. Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. Get a Super Bowl. And now you coming. Now we going to be in Cleveland. So you're saying we got to get a dome now. We got to get a dome now. No, no, no. You don't got to get a dome. We got to get a dome now. We want a Super Bowl, too. If y 'all want to host the Super Bowl. We want a Super Bowl, too. We ain't going to spend that much on our dome, though. We probably go make sure that ours is twice as good as y 'all's. We got to at least drop 5.7 million. Look, I'm going to tell you this stuff, Bebo.

36:45James Harrison:A lot to me. A billion. You had one point good. I would have preferred us to have grass, obviously. But... Can't have grass, Joe. Why not? Because it's easier to move turf than it is grass. Grass got to be a whole slab. You got to roll that thing in and out like they do with AZ. Like Arizona. Like the carers do it. The carers do it. They do it nice. Yeah, but see, they got that good weather outside all the time. You going to pull that grass out there. Pull that grass outside. You got the weather. You got the winter popping over there. And they got to be out there. They in there for a whole weekend.

37:18James Harrison:and y 'all got a game on. It's over. The grass dead. We need a dome just to hold the grass. Now y 'all tripping. That's crazy. Yep, yep. That's why he did turf. That's true. That's why he did turf. So they don't have to do nothing like that. You got to do nothing. Like, do whatever you want to do. Just... I don't tell anybody's though, man. Yes, yes, yes. It is. It's a little bit. It's a little bit. It's a little bit. A little bit. What was your favorite stadiums to play in? What was your... You have any? I ain't really had none. I ain't gonna lie to you. I ain't gonna lie to you. I love playing in the Browns Stadium.

37:56James Harrison:It just sounds crazy. I did. Our grass was great. I love playing in the Steelers Stadium. I did. It was hype. I did. Those are my two favorite stadiums, honestly. Oh, if you're talking about atmosphere, then I would have to say... I would have to say... home of course and then when we would play the uh ravens yeah i was about to say that was my third boulder was lit boulder was lit god you ain't lie boulder was definitely lit i'm trying to tell you i'm hoda kotby host of the podcast joy 101 with hoda kotby if you know me you know i'm always searching for inspiration and useful tools to maximize joy so this podcast lets us uncover those things together through meaningful conversations with fascinating people.

You have something in your guts. You go with it. And Shawn Johnson recalled the moment she realized her now husband, Andrew, was the one. 39:38This is a story about a horrendous situation that destroyed two families. It started more than seven years ago when Cindy and Kenny were two 40-somethings who had just gotten engaged. Days later, they walked into a scorched-earth war they never saw coming.

39:56James Harrison:Turn around and place your hands behind your back. The cops gave it to my house and threw me in jail. And to Cindy's surprise, her fiancé Kenny was charged with abusing one of her children. I never once doubted Kenny, and I always doubted the accusation. On Season 3 of Burden of Guilt, you'll hear a story about the lengths someone will go to in order to get what they want. This case has got to be one of the most despicable. 40:34Our town is small taters by most standards, right? But to the people who grew up here, it's everything. What happens when a quiet Tennessee town becomes the front line in a battle over the future of America? Developers with right-wing ties have purchased hundreds of acres of land in the area. The first thing you see when it pops up is pioneers in Appalachia. But they weren't just planting houses. We need cities on a shining hill that exemplify and embody the Christian way of life. Stop right there. Is that normal? A podcast about what happens when a small town becomes the site of a social experiment.

41:54and what it really means to live forever for all of us. I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you, and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain, as opposed to his brain. Here are some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost a four to five year acceleration. And get myself into a world of trouble. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know. Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

43:39James Harrison:It was the new, bro, it was our division. The division that lit. Divisional games, listen, man. Like, we used to sit over there and wait. be like, hey man, they about to introduce Ray. Watch Ray. Watch Ray when he come out. Listen, bro. Ray come out there. They on turf. Ray come out to three songs. First song Ray come out to is like dun, dun, dun. And then they pop to the other song. When they pop to the other song, they done put a piece of real grass down there for him. Yes. He reached down in the box, grabbed the grass, and they hit the other song then when he grabbed the grass. And then, before he go and hit the dance, they pop it to another one, then he hit that.

44:23James Harrison:Bruh, we be over there. Oh, they working. He working with the DJ. Bruh, we be over there so hype, bruh. Bruh, we be over there hype. Like, hype. I know, I got to see that part. The boys found that out. I told you before, them boys found that out after the 2008 Super Bowl that we won. Man, I don't think we heard the defense brought out again when we played them up there. It might have been one time, bro. No, for sure. Because you were just watching. But that, he would get me, he would get us hyped up. Mm-hmm. There's no fear. It's like, it's okay. Oh, it's a real live game now. Real, listen, I'm like, hey, we used to tell the rookies, watch, watch when Ray come out.

45:04James Harrison:Watch Ray come out. And then they stopped introducing and we like, man, come on, what they doing? We ended up talking to, talking to Ed Reed and Sizzle. They was like, yeah, they stopped that, man. They ain't letting y 'all get that. Mm-hmm. Oh, man. Before the games, bro, that national anthem, before that thing started, I used to have my little moment every game. That's when I would just really get myself together, like, the respect of, damn, I'm in the league. That would happen every single national anthem. When I'm standing, I'm like, it's okay. I would have my little, my moment, bro. Literally, D-Bo, I was, like, getting myself right together.

45:36James Harrison:Just the humbling, like, I made it. You know what I'm saying? I feel like every time that would happen, it's not just the national anthem, was just like standing there looking across like, it's a whole other squad. We in the league. I'm like, that never got over. You was crying, Joe? I ain't going to lie to you. I ain't did that one. I did. I do. I'm thinking about it. See, I'm on that. I usually - You're on straight demon time, but I was on demon time - I'm trying to see who I can sleep on the first kickoff. I'm trying to see who I can sleep. See, you ready? Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yes. I'm ready to go.

46:11James Harrison:Yeah. I was too. But when I stood on the line, then I was like, okay, yeah, it's game time. And then I got back right.

46:22James Harrison:Oh, man. Listen. The Browns rookie wide receiver, Casey Concepcion, he said he take a little pride in not being tackled by cornerbacks. Joe, listen. A little jet sweep. My dog Ty, you know, he had a basic block for me. He set the edge. I take pride in never being tackled by a cornerback. So, you know, I saw the edge, you know, you know, I fought through the tackle. I kept my balance. You know, my score. Hey. Hey. What's up? Hey, Joe, I got to ask you this question. What's up, man? How do you feel about that as a quarterback, okay, that played in the league or is playing in the league? And how do you feel about that as a Browns fan?

47:41James Harrison:Because I'm going to assume they might be a little different. As a Browns fan, this is exactly what I need to hear. the mentality the dog the like feeling like the dbs can't hold you they're small they're not trying to tackle this is how you're going to treat them so as a brown fan i'm loving the mentality like keep that going you know i'm saying like that's going to be your edge you know i love it because when you got that pump return you are looking like you're looking real like you just need the ball in your hands and you're gonna make something happen exactly like i expected you're catching the ball with your hands, going across the middle, you don't look scared or nothing.

48:21James Harrison:And that was super athletic. To bend the corner, put your hands down on the ground, and get in the end zone. My man KC, I know he looked like he played basketball. He looks athletic. He's done some stuff before. So as a Browns fan, thank you, KC Concepcion. This is the type of energy we need and continue to produce, continue to do that. I love his energy. I love his mindset. As a DB. Oh, you got me messed up, coach. As a cornerback, how do you feel? cornerback, you've gotten messed up. Because for me, he's basically saying you're too little for me. It needs to be at least a linebacker or safety, somebody that's over victim weight.

49:01James Harrison:If you're under 200, basically what he's saying is you're not going to be able to tackle me. I'm loving his mindset, KC, but for sure as a DB, as a corner, if you're a hitter, if you're not scared to turn down some... If you're not scared of the dirty part of your job, oh, you want all the smoke. So that's how I feel as a DV. But as a receiver, that mentality, that dog, that Debo Samuel, that you're not going to be able to take me down because you're smaller, I can respect it. I like it. But just know, for me, I'm going to have to take you down, coach. I'm going to have to take you down. And I'm not low and low because we're the same size.

49:36James Harrison:If we're the same size, I'm hitting you up top, pork chop. Up top, pork chop. Boom. Joe. But I like all that. I like all that. I like all that. I'm letting every cornerback know in the NFL that he just said, can't none of y 'all tackle him. He like putting y 'all to shame. He like putting y 'all all to shame. He done said this after one preseason game. Chill out, Big Bell. That's what he done said. He done said that, hey, any corner, any corner in the NFL, Browns, the Browns rookie, Casey Concepcion said, he'll take pride in running your boys over and making sure you can't tackle him because you're victim.

50:15James Harrison:Don't put words in his mouth. He takes pride. I'm reading in between the lines. You let me do my job.

50:27You understand?

50:29James Harrison:You let me do my job. This is what I do. Yeah, you definitely. Your Browns. Hold up. What's up? Your DN, Jerry Verse. Hey, you know what? What's up? You know what he said about the fight with your boy, what is it, Fanny? Yeah. What did he say? Go ahead. Play the sound. I don't think it goes over the edge at all. I think fighting is necessary when you get to football. You have to have that edge. I talk crazy. I'm very disrespectful when it comes to the way I compete, especially when I try to drive my teammates to another level. So I wouldn't expect him any less than to retaliate because that's the type of player he is.

51:05James Harrison:He's a very magnificent player. And going against him, you know, he's gotten so much better. in these past couple of weeks. Interesting. It's been a month. I don't even know camp's been running all along. But, you know, in the time we've been together, he's gotten so much better. And, you know, because he's getting better, he's getting to the point where I'm starting to learn things from him. I'm starting to learn a little bit about my tendencies and what he's picking up on. So it's making me a better player as well. That boy got hard. I mean, a lot of rookies were going through a situation, you know, against me, against, you know, top edges in the league and stuff and kind of back down, kind of like, you know, being a little nervous, a little bit timid.

51:33James Harrison:But no, he has never shown that. Hey, Joe. Yeah. Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. He said, you know, that's what you need to do, all that good stuff. Boo, boo, boo. You know, he wouldn't expect nothing left. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hold on, Joe. Magnificent player, blah, blah, blah. Joe, you tell me. What do you think? What do you think? You like this, Joe? I don't like this. I love this, Debo. You love this. I love this. Do you know why? Why? Because real recognize real. And it don't take long for you to know if you got a dog on the offensive line or you got a puppy on the offensive line. And other, Jerry Burst, he knows because he's been in the league long enough to go against real tackles, real dudes.

52:21James Harrison:He's been able to try to bully people. You heard what he said. I talk crazy to people. I talk disrespecting. I'm like this. Okay, you got that dog. I've known a lot of players that go out there and just talk ridiculous. You know what I'm saying? But you got to be able to back it up. Don't just be out there talking and getting thrown around. You look crazy. Jerry Versa, you're not getting thrown around. You talk as much trash as you want. That's how you play your game, and I love it. Bring that energy to the field, sacks, strip sacks, all that. So when he's going smack at Fanning, he's going to see, like, oh, no, he's not backing down.

52:54James Harrison:He's not no sucker, and he's coming back. I would expect nothing less from a dog. And now he's like, oh, he's learning all my tendencies because he's saying, if you're playing against a tackle that's now you're going back at him, you're going hard, you're giving him your best stuff. And he's now learning a little bit. He's a first-round pick for a reason. He's going to be our starting tackle. And he's saying that, oh, he's got some stuff to where he's learning how I'm moving. So that's the iron sharpening iron when you were going against a good receiver. I don't care if he's a rookie or if he's seven years in.

53:24James Harrison:If he's running some stuff, he's like, I've seen this when you shoot your hand like that. I'm like, okay, bet. If you can start giving them a little game, that's a real game. It don't matter how long you've been in the league. If you come in there respectfully, doing your job, and when other vets see that you're good, you're doing a good job, you're actually like, you know what you're doing, you're out here handling your business, they respond differently. So I love this because it's iron on iron, you need good on good. Your best players are going to fight the other best players because it's offense versus defense at this point.

53:53James Harrison:We're going at each other. We're not really friends. we don't have the other team to be our competition. So you know how that gets? Good on good. Your best players go fight each other. Your best players go fight each other, Joe. I mean, look. You know what's so crazy about that, Joe? Not always, you both. But you know what I'm saying. You know how it gets. I understand what you're saying, Joe. But Joe, he said retaliate. He said the man had to retaliate. He understand. He said, I can understand that. Yeah. But what I can't understand is why he would do something that he would have to retaliate against him for.

54:46James Harrison:You know, so you're telling me that you did something to your own teammate that required that response because it's the only logical response that would happen, especially in our business for whatever it is that he did. So. What he did don't sound like it was football. that's what it sounds like to me because if it's football you play you hit you go you win you lose you turn around for the next play so this don't sound smart to me joe as a leader of this team that uh you would purposely cause a dangerous situation to unfold that could possibly get him and the other player or one of his other teammates hurt in the process because you're doing something like fighting an act that would get you suspended in a game.

55:58James Harrison:I don't know, Joe. That sounds brownish to me. What do you think? You acting like you didn't see the Steelers during training camp, fist to cuffs. You're acting like you don't see everybody. You do, Debo. Now you're lying through your teeth. Now you're lying through your teeth. Sometimes now, tensions can flare and at the end of the day, these players... You're a liar. We don't do that. You're lying through your teeth right now to me. And I can't believe it because you know, Debo. You know that boy out there throwing them hands at the Steelers training camp. the same way. Don't look me in my eyes.

56:37James Harrison:I'm looking you in your eyes, Joe. Tell me now that you're not seeing the fight. I'm looking you in your eyes, Joe. You're lying. You're lying. I'm looking right at you, Joe. We will. I'm just going, okay, yeah. You know that. So sometimes it takes a little, and you know, he's not fighting in the game. He knows that you're going to get kicked out. You know you're going to get suspended. You know, and that's the thing. The coach is going to break it up. It's going to be what it is. you can do this. I'm just saying, Joe, we didn't do that, Joe. We didn't do that. We didn't do that at Steelers. You're a liar, Debo.

57:12James Harrison:I was there. Who fought? The Cuffs. Who was fighting? I don't even know. I'm not snitching like that. I'm just telling you it was happening. You can't say no names? No. You can't say you're... No. No. You going to sit here and tell me I'm lying now? I ain't seen no fighting. They was inside most of the time. We was there. I ain't seen nothing. Okay. No, no, no. I'm not talking about this camp. I'm talking about we was there. I'm talking about when I was playing when you was playing yeah I don't know about that but I will say this uh that was the last year that I was there so I don't really um okay alrighty bro I'm not gonna incriminate you and I'm not trying to incriminate myself but I'm just saying people know that people box that people box sometimes at training camp and it's not even a real box it's a fake joint because people got their helmets on and they could literally hurt themselves.

58:03James Harrison:They look kind of nuts, but it's not really even a boxing match. Why are you punching a helmet? That's the craziest thing in the world. They look crazy, Deebo. But so you know. So I'm telling you, you know. I'm going to break my hand punching a helmet. Are y 'all crazy? Like, that don't, you done lost your scruples. You're going to punch a helmet, Joe.
