Guests
No named guests appear in the provided transcript; it’s a host-style conversation between Deebo and Joe (with occasional references to reporters/coaches).
Guest backgrounds
Not applicable from transcript (no guest bios provided).
Key claims
Albert Breer says the Eagles want more from Carter “from a character perspective” and could wait another year if he won’t show flexibility; Deebo argues teams look for reasons to lower max-contract offers, especially after public incidents.
Notable examples
Carter’s high-profile spit incident (ejected six seconds into the opener); George Pickens’ contract situation in Dallas as a parallel. Additional examples: Bill Cowher calling out players in team meetings; practice-speed/effort leading to “take off plays” and missed plays.

3:30James Harrison:CarMax. The Eagles, man, are reluctant to pay Jalen Carter. Albert Breer says the Eagles are hesitant to pay Carter and that the team wants to see a bit more from him from a character perspective. If Carter won't give them that flexibility now, maybe he'll just wait another year, which would make this a little like George Pickens' situation in Dallas, where the team might want to see a little more from a player just from a character perspective before committing long-term, Breer wrote. Of course, Carter was involved in a high-profile incident where he spit on your guy, got ejected six seconds into the opener.
4:24James Harrison:Hey, man, what do you think? You think they got a legit reason or they just trying to lower the ticket? Lower the ticket. You know, I tried to, Debo, the NFL, they're going to try to find any reason not to pay you that back. You know what I'm saying? And so anything personal, anything like anything that was wasn't really that serious when it was going on, they're going to try to find out reasons to not give you that max contracts. So like that with teams and if they do have anything with questionable characters, they're going to just start putting stuff out there and making you look like you need to take less.
5:03James Harrison:So, I mean, they you know, it is they got your rights. They kind of got you by by the balls. you can't really do nothing. So that's why I always try to say, just try to stay out the way as much as you possibly can, because they're trying to find reasons the entire time not to pay you. Once you get, once you're out there balling you under contract, it's all good. But soon you start getting into negotiations. Every little thing is a big thing. Now it's, oh, hold up, man. Like you was, and they can do that because they have rights. They have your rights. They can franchise tag you. They can do certain things.
5:35James Harrison:So once it's time to negotiate, all of a sudden stuff starts coming out. So just trying to stay out of the way as long as possible. So I think that's what they're doing. It's just, you know, if something, and then you've seen it. You've seen them do the little spit, whatever. Something like, anything that was a real spit. That was a real spit. That's not a little spit. But yeah, anything that they've seen you do can be used against you in the court of law, in the court of contract. Facts. Bruh. Hey, listen, I'm going to have to go with them on this, man. I'm sitting back, and I'm the owner, GM.
6:16James Harrison:I'm 100 % with them. This is not a talent issue. He has talent. This is a maturity issue. You can't spend nobody. You can't do that, dude. Just a few months ago, they're looking at something 30, 30 plus a year possibly guaranteeing what probably at least 60 70 percent of that on guarantee and now we know that you have a issue and you already so that you couldn't control yourself on something that was not even uncontrollable like i can't have you tossed out of a game for multiple weeks because you decided to spit on somebody else or you did something slick and sly in the trenches. Like, I can't allow that.
7:08James Harrison:And you playing on the front line, bro. You know how much bullshit going on the front line where you can't react to it. It ain't like getting spit on or nothing like that, but it's a little knickknack stuff here and there. And because you're not the first one to take it off. Oh, you're going to be the one to get caught. You're going to be the one to get caught trying to get to what they did. So you got to keep a cool head. And you already showed me that you couldn't do that in a situation where you should not even have got hot. So, and then when you look at it, they're saying it's, you know, other instances that, you know, that aren't publicly known that, you know, that they know of.
7:46So, yes, 100%.
7:49James Harrison:And like you said with the Pickens thing, dude, if Pickens didn't have any character issue or anything, man, he would have been paid. He would have been paid, bruh. he would have still been in Pittsburgh honestly like paid but when it come down to it they're like yo we know we heard what it is you came here yes you did good and for the most part we didn't have really any real issues but as they said coming out at the end of the year it was this it was that okay how easy is it for you to go ahead and act right for a year I didn't like act right for a year you know what I'm saying But when they sign that deal, it ain't going to be a year deal.
8:31James Harrison:It's going to be about a five, four, four, five year guarantee. When they sign that long term, right. It's going to be looking at four or five years. You know what I'm saying? So let me see what you can do on this franchise. I mean, that's how I would have to play it because I can't just give you that much money and know that I already had an issue beforehand and then go give you the money and be sitting there looking like a mule chewing glue because now you did exactly what we knew you would do and could do. The NFL, man, they not. Once you start getting into like, and then you see people that get these contracts and it doesn't quite work out, NFL's not playing.
9:13James Harrison:They want to have a reason where they just know, check all boxes. You know what I'm saying? You stay out of the way. You're not really doing too much. And then even say, when they say that they know things about Jalen, they're keeping on the wraps. when you have players on your team and you're not going to be giving the dirt out while you're coaching because you know they're on your squad. A lot of things on teams are just swept under the rug. We don't know what's going on in that locker room. So we just seen them. We know we saw them spit on the player. That's not acceptable. And then we don't know how he's moving around in the facility.
9:46James Harrison:We don't know. So when the team starts saying little stuff, this is because now it's contract time you trying to get the bag people seeing this on tv what you did now we been on the inside just making sure everything's good because you are on our team you're a great player but now you're talking about you trying to get this bag you're wilding sometimes over here so let me just throw that out there to these people let them know hold up hold up hold up he's trying to get that bag but i don't know if the attitude is kind of matching up with it so it's just that's why i always say stay out the way because when it's time to get paid all of that matters all of that oh yeah oh yeah bro like i don't know bro i don't think they understand that's like when you hear something and and you hear a story and it gets out oh it was it was so and so did this or said that and and you know the person you know the situation you understand and and and in your head they're like well this has never happened before and you're like shit that motherfucker been doing that for the last three four years y 'all just ain't heard about it i say no you know what i saying nobody say nothing.
10:47James Harrison:Yes. Because at this, you're exactly right. The performance and all that stuff is good. Yes. Because when you're under contract, everything's cool. Once you start talking about, I need a new contract, everything's not cool. Everything's not cool. Anything that could be an issue that could separate you from being on the field 100 % of the time or being available 100 % of the time is going to be an issue. Especially things that aren't injury or, you know, health related. Like, you're talking about something that you did that is outside of actual game situation play. It wasn't like, oh, it was a hit that was questionable and you got suspended for that.
11:30James Harrison:No, you went to spit on somebody, bro. Oh, yeah, we can't get that. And like you said, too, when you bring it up, like, George, I love, love Pickens. And like you said, if he was just handling all of the off-the-field stuff when he was in there just with any of that he would have been paid handsomely because it's not about what he could do on the field it's like hold on can i trust bro from the show last night to this drive why is it never chill because this is our life backstage on the road it's loud messy real and that's the best part whole crew no plan just moving good thing nissan builds for that kind of chaos not just test tracks real life scenes late nights road trips all of it that's why it holds up Nissan was ranked number one in initial quality among mainstream brands by J.D.

15:50James Harrison:them no reasons to not be able to trust you just time being able to be on time being able to just be accountable for things and certain things would they let stuff slide while you're there because if you're playing at a certain level things will be able to be good when you're under contract but when you start trying to negotiate again that's where they could really be ah hold up i don't know what it is more short term more you got to prove it you show me right why we can be able to give you that yeah definitely definitely do todd bowles todd bowles suggested 2025 buccaneers took place off brother he said if we can prepare and we can execute and we don't look at the names on the people's helmets and we can play the same every week and learn how to finish off games and close games out instead of getting the lead and just taking plays off or not having the lead and having to come back late you just want to play four quarters and you want to get out there you just want to play four quarters and you want to get out there and I think we have these types of alpha dogs on our team right now that will make this team that will make this team to elevate to that.
17:08James Harrison:When you start coaching themselves, when they start coaching themselves and don't need too much coaching on the sideline, that's when you know you've arrived. Joe, you got guys taking off plays, Joe? I mean, that can't happen at all. I think that's a... You ain't never had nobody taking off plays? I mean... I mean, not me? Not me? I ain't saying you, Joe. I don't know. I don't know. I'm just asking, Joe. You've never seen nobody take off a plane? Yes, I have. I have. And that was mainly probably just I ain't asking for a name, Joe. Yes, I have. Exhaustion. Tiredness. And you need to just get out the game.
17:56James Harrison:Sub. Sub out. It's okay. If you can't go, your 60 % is not your backup's 100%. Get out the game. Hey. Take a breather. Take a blow and win. because we need somebody to go full speed. That's it. Like, go in the right spot, full speed. If you're just sitting in there standing up, getting high, getting low, you're not helping nobody. So my whole thing is, fatigue makes a coward out of everybody. So if you just, you've got to be able to get out and get a blow. No, I'm fighting through. You're hurting us. You're not helping us. You being out there is hurting the team. So I'm saying the effort thing where you're just, like, lagging, not giving effort that's just that that's not okay at all but i'm saying if it's an effort if you're tired tap yourself out if you're giving up on the if you're just giving up then that's that's a loafs are not okay like what are we talking about you got to get to the ball that's that's a coaching thing you can't have people you can't that's you can't let that be accepted i think that starts in practice right starts in pursuit drill you think you're not just pursuing after the ball during, he didn't start that in the game.
19:03James Harrison:That was happening in practice. You were letting that thing slide. So what you need? Well, you got to realize everybody don't practice at the same speed. I don't want to hear none of that. If your team's not good, everybody needs to be getting to the rock. There's a level of where, man, bump that. If you got to, you know what it is. Get to the rock. You got to burst. Give me a burst. Give me something. I don't give a damn how old you are. Like, you going to be practicing or you're not. That one's hard, though. I ain't going to lie to you. That one's hard. Man. I've known players that are Hall of Fame status players, and they don't go like that in practice.
19:42James Harrison:You know what I'm saying? And I've known guys that go and practice so hard, but they can't elevate from that practice level in the game. So then you start seeing them in practice, and the coach may end up giving them a chance. Yo, let me put you over here and give you a chance. And then they get in the game and, you know, most people, they elevate from practice into the game. It's no elevation. They practice speed is they gain speed. So, you know, it's a little disappointing. I like you. I'm like, I'm trying to go as hard as I can. So when. When you or when when I think about it, I think athletes in.
20:25And in team sports, like if they take it off plays, it's a combination of things.
20:30James Harrison:And I think the number one thing is what you said is they're tired. Like you, you know, you tired and then your ego will not let you lead the game. Fatigue makes cowards of all of us. Okay. And you start processing stuff slower because you tired. You're making decisions that you wouldn't normally make. Your judgment is all messed up, you know, and especially now, dude, like it's extremely rare to have a guy or a whole group of guys that play 100 percent of the snaps at every position, you know, and you aren't either, you know, sub in or out. It's two positions. You got DBs and you got linemen, offensive linemen, offensive linemen and DBs.
21:19James Harrison:I think are the only two positions that don't sub out. We're in the quarterback, obviously. But receivers, rotating. Your linebackers sometimes for packages may rotate. Your D-line, obviously, you keep them rotating. Dude, when I first started playing, well, when I first started playing, period, like, it was no rotation. Like, the starting linebackers, that's who dudes, them boys played the whole game. Like, that's just what happened. It was no subbing. you didn't you know you came in to training camp you came in and ready to go dude you know hell from 2000 2007 when i first started to 2009 or 10 bro i played damn near every snap and i did hunt and kickoff the ones that go straight to defense dude you had to come in there and shape dude it was no rotation like that that's not something that that happened you know what i'm saying and again like you said it's the ego you got a guy that you know he believed you know maybe his 80 is better than the guy behind him 100 but when you start getting into you know you you at the 70 and the 60 you're not you're not you're not holding your gap you know that's ego talking to you man that's ego talking to you there's no way that you can believe that you can sit there and do your job better than the guy behind you at 100 can do it what you're doing at 60 or 70 percent that's you know that's just it and you're going to because it's not i don't think they're taking plays off it's just you can't get there oh no i will say now you do have some guys that take plays off like real talk like let's say like what's like what you mean like when you get guys that are like pursuing the ball.
23:09James Harrison:Like dude is pursuing the ball, okay? And he's not going 100%. He gets a stop, go to stop, go because he's thinking somebody's going to make the tackle. But nobody makes the tackle. And if he didn't get a stop, go, stop, go and gave 100%, he could have saved that tackle. He could have saved that touchdown. Or you got a guy that's doing a stop, go like, oh, he about to get tackled, but he don't get tackled. And if he gave 100 % and just kept going, he could have been the person that made that block to help that dude get a touchdown. We're going to lose. It's a combination. Oh, yeah. Lose. For sure.
23:41James Harrison:That's that change of speed. What you doing is one speed. You're going to get there. You just, oh, oh. When coaches see that change of speed, you're getting there. Oh, you could have been going that fast the whole time. Get there. Right. If you went that fast the whole time, you would have got there. You could have saved every inch count, every yard count. You could have saved three, four, five yards, whatever that may be, when the process come down to it. So I understand, you know, I understand what you're saying and the concept of it. But also, you are the head coach. You dictate and you make that acceptable or unacceptable by how you practice.
24:22James Harrison:And if it's somebody that you know that you done seen in the game as a head coach and you're like, yo, he's loafing. Like he's loafing Like yo You can't You don't get the The The practice of Oh I understand That you You go do this Different in practice No you don't get that You can't be a guy That got any loaf In you Or had any loafs In a game And be the guy At practice that's saying Oh yeah I'm right there I got no Debo You know too It's about coming in That's Coming in The day The meeting after the game That eye in the sky Don't lie When you're getting that when you got a coach that's holding you accountable of loss, of you was the one that could have got there to this play, and being embarrassed in front of your friends, in front of your teammates, is one of the most scariest things that I could be.
25:10James Harrison:Because you talk all this good stuff, you talk all this nice shit, you're supposed to be the ball and all that. Right here, boom. You see you changing speed. You could have got there and made the play, and you didn't do it. You know how many coaches don't call that out? I know because they, that's crazy to me. Everybody. The only way you can get full buy-in is if your best players are boop, held accountable. Oh my goodness, boop, they're doing it. And if you can call out the top best player that's making the bread, everybody else can call in line. If you call out the top players, you ain't even got to call out the bottom because they go jump in line.
25:46James Harrison:You're scared because I'm coming in that joint. I'm scared because I know at the end of the day, I know I'm making this check and I got to go out here and ball the fuck out because I know I'm nice and this is what I do. So if coach can call me out anytime and it's being able to be accountable, you're not going to do everything perfect. When you do mess up, you take that on the chin. That's me. Boom. All right. It won't happen again. And you don't make the same mistake twice ever. That's why the BC, that boy would call out anybody, man. Ooh, we. In the meeting, in the team meeting. What? Bill Coward.
26:18James Harrison:Oh my God, dude. He would call out anybody in the team. That mean you love that because special team, anything, that means you love it. And your teammates. And, again, something else. We watch special teams. As a team. As a unit. As a unit. Whole unit. Everybody. Like, team breakdown. Man. That's going to have your special teams. They want to show the team they deserve. They just keep everybody in. Good work. You want your special teams, dog. They want that love from the squad. Show them, like, I'm on the team, too. You know, I'm crashing out.

When you see the wedge, you better accelerate as fast as you can and drop and blow through whoever it is you go hit. If you come in there and you go to slowing down, he will rewind that thing. What are you doing? Are you accelerating or decelerating? 20 times. Decel. Decel. What is this?

I had one time where I was just nervous as hell, bro. So we had like a right return, right? I think I might have told you this before. So we had a right return. So as we go and we started running, so it's a right return, right? So you're turning this way. So as we do the return, and that's when we would circle back and you could crack block. You know what I'm saying? So I circle back. And as I circle back, I turned around and I'm thinking right. So I'm turned the other way now.
33:11So my right is here.
33:13James Harrison:Okay. So I start going the other way, right? So he see it on film and he's like, Silverback, what is this? What is this? What are you doing here? Do you know it's a right return? I said, yeah, coach. I said, listen, this is what happened. I said, I knew it was a right return. I said, but when I turned around, my right was still on my right. So I went right. And he's like, hey, sometimes shit happens. You just got to keep going, right? So we in the game, and I done got a holding penalty, bro. It's on one of the returns, so I'm coming off the field. He's like, silverback, silverback. I'm ignoring him. He's like, I know you hear me. So he said again. I turned to him. He's like, what are you doing? Why are you holding? I said, coach, what happens?
