In short

The episode is a “Nightcap Best of NFL” discussion focused on receiver rankings and team/contract decisions, plus a reported off-field incident. The hosts debate whether A.J. Brown is the best WR in the NFL, arguing that his production doesn’t require scheme because he can win one-on-one and “get out the mud” regardless of where he lines up. They push back on Darius Slay’s claim that other top receivers are more scheme-dependent, saying Chase/Jefferson/Hill still require defenses to account for them even when not moved around. Notable examples include Brown’s ability to win deep balls and traffic catches, and the idea that Hurts can call simple routes because Brown’s positioning forces coverage. They also discuss Christian Wilkins: Adam Schefter reported an awkward kiss incident with a Raiders teammate (kiss on the head), which the teammate took offense to; it’s said not to be the sole reason for Wilkins’ release. Guests/people referenced: Darius Slay, Christian Wilkins, Adam Schefter, Terry Bradshaw (as a historical aside), and Aaron Rodgers (mentioned).

2:24Shannon Sharpe:A 20-year age gap. So if I'm 57, Terry's got to be 77. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hold on. So he came out. So he had to come. If he didn't register that, they weren't registered like that back then. So he came out at 21-22 in 1970. and it's what 19 it's 2025 now that's 55 years so he's got to be 77 maybe 78 you know what let me google this it's hard for me to believe he's anything other than that Ocho yeah because like I said it's a Terry Bradshaw yeah

3:11Shannon Sharpe:he's 76 born in 1948 he'll be 77 uh september 2nd so i'm right right on it yeah you on it you was a mad you good with numbers on you hey like i said i don't think they redshirted a whole lot back then because you know columbus tried to get your ass up out of there uh they weren't trying to pay for an extra year but i think the thing is is that if you look at those old old guys you play football you keep your mouth shut you go home yeah that's all that other stuff it annoys them but you just said something earlier when we were talking about the super bowl tickets and about adapting yeah some of the old players from that era back in those times they had a way of doing things but now yeah listen we we in air we we've moved on and advanced in certain areas especially the game of football everybody doesn't act that way everybody's not a robot in their approach to the game and how they play or see it so he did adapt as well which many of them haven't no haven't no because uh uh i think the greatest key to survival is survival is adaptability yeah and because the players were that way the coaches went that that way ownership was that way and so they don't see this like bro and with terry terry won four super bowls in six years Four.

4:33Shannon Sharpe:And so he's like, this method is tried and true. The less distractions you present for the team, the better off you're going to be. All this talking and all. But that's how they do it. Because look, some people can party and can hang out, come in at two or three in the morning, get two or three hours sleep and function just fine. Just fine. That wasn't what I could do. Right. I need to be asleep by 10, 1030. I mean, it is what it is. And some guys can hang out and drink and come in, and you would have thought they got to bed at 730. And they might have not got to bed at 730 that morning. Yeah.

5:18That's them big boys.

5:20Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, but that's – But who knows? Aaron said, and we're just taking him at his word, If Terry got to know him on a deeper level, gave him a chance, who knows, they might hit it off. He might actually like me. Because I do think Aaron is a deep thinker. I think sometimes he does overthink things. But, hey,

5:48Shannon Sharpe:man, the old guy, man, Ocho, you know how it is, man. When them old people get set, they set in their ways, Ocho. They're not changing. They're not evolving. and they think everything works based on how they had success. Well, it worked for me. It should work for you. So you should be doing it this specific way. Yep. They're not evolving. They're nothing. They're not good with technology. Nope. The whole nine yards. It's hard when you only looking through your lens. Ooh, that's a good one. See, Terry only sees things through his lens. and so it's tough. It's tough, Ocho, when you criticize somebody and all of a sudden they come play for the organization that you play for.

6:33Shannon Sharpe:Now, what works in Terry's favor is that Terry is not really around. He's not like, rest his soul, Franco used to be around all the time. Mel Blunt is around all the time. Terry works Sunday. Terry's not around. And unless Fox have the Super Bowl, he's not going to be around. So, like I said, I've been around Terry, you know, worked at Fox for years and met Terry. He's a country guy that I think, what does he have now? He used to have cattle. I think he got horses now. And you know, he's going to tell it like it is no matter who it is too, huh? Hey, he's going to tell you just like I almost said the R word.

7:22He's going to get it until you rock. Pause. Yeah.

7:26Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, he is. And so, you know, his family, like I said, I know in the beginning, but if I'm not mistaken, I think Terry have, I think he raises quarter horses now. I know one point in time he had cattle. He had beef cattle. He was in the cattle business. I don't know if he still has it. He had, you know, big ranch. You know, he had, you know, probably, I don't know, say 5 ,000, 10 ,000 acres. But you ever, you ever rode quarter horse before? Nah, man, we had a pony. Growing up, we had a pony named Ringo. I had a cousin, had a horse named Lady, who was an Appaloosa, you know, white with the black spots on him.

8:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, yeah. But nah, nah. You know, I ride horses, you know, I'm out there and Davey out there in Miami. I ride horses consistently when I have time, obviously. Right. I got damn quarter horse, man. They ride, they ride, like real, you can feel it. every goddamn thing. It's like smooth or nothing, man. They look at it. Look, he looking to run, Ocho. He ain't looking for you to ride. If you want something to ride or you want something to ride, say, to ride or to work, you need to get a saddle horse. You need to get a horse that's specific. What are the TheraBrand meant to do? TheraBrand's meant to run.

8:42The running is fine. It's just the ride is rough. I can't remember Filipino the name of the kind of horses they have in the Dominican Republic. They're not that big, but it feel like you're riding on clouds. They're going full speed. It feel like you... I know it's so smooth and it's so easy to catch a rhythm. Them goddamn quarter horses, man, you... Every goddamn... Even if you try, you know, I've been riding for years now. How can you catch...

9:07Shannon Sharpe:You try to go with it, it's still rough. Yeah. I can't remember the kind of horses they have in the Dominican Republic. It starts with a P, Philip something. Might have been a Filipino. Yeah. Feliciana, no. I mean, I just like, you know, just looking at the horse, the muscular structure, and you're looking at an animal that's a thousand pounds, their ankle bone is the size of a human. And that's why they have so many leg problems. A horse. You look at a horse, an animal that's a thousand pounds and his ankles are not much bigger than a human. That's why they break so easy. Oh, okay, okay, okay, okay.

9:46Shannon Sharpe:That's, you know, that's why that's why you have the problem that you have. And, you know, a lot of times what they do when you break it, you, you know, you put him down because you're asking him to try to put that weight, to redistribute that weight. It's, it's sad. That's what it is. But, uh, no, but I, I, look, I wish, you know, Terry and, and, and Aaron can get somewhere and, and, and the conversation, we never hear about it. We never hear about it because I don't think we need to hear about it. I don't think we need to know about it, but I think, you know, There are some things that Terry would probably want to share with Aaron, and Aaron would want to share with Terry, and they could move the ball forward.

10:23Shannon Sharpe:But that's something that we don't have to know. I'm sure, listen, I'm sure Aaron's going to find a way to have a conversation with him, ask for his number, or Terry's going to find a way to reach out to him. And just because you're playing from an organization, I didn't mean what I said like that, but they're going to talk, and you know Aaron Rodgers, he shares everything. Right. He shares everything. So at some point during the season, it's going to come out that we had a conversation. If he's not, well, Terry's still going to let his ass have it on TV. For sure. And also, Terry doesn't live in Pittsburgh.

10:57Shannon Sharpe:I think Terry lives in Oklahoma near the Texas border, something like that. So he's not like one of these great players, 14 players, that live in the city in which they played. A lot of time, you know, players that were great, they still live there because, you know, Ocho, I can cash in, you know, autograph signing and appearances and speaking engagements and things of that nature. The team, you know, team activities, stuff like that. They can take advantage of that. But Terry, Terry left. I don't think Terry only lived in Pittsburgh probably during the season. And once the season was over, Terry took off.

11:30Shannon Sharpe:Right. Darius Slay says A.J. Brown is the best receiver in the NFL. He went on Richard Sherman's podcast to explain why. Let's take a listen to what he had to say, Ocho. Everybody on that list. from top four is mostly scheme and open for me. This is a DB. I done seen Chase line up in the backfield. I seen Justin line up in the backfield. I seen Tyreek be getting the three-point sense by the damn tackle guard and be motioned across there. All I see is AJ doing is line up at X. Come see about me. If you want to see about me, I'm over here. You know where I'm at. I'm not finna go in this backfield.

12:04I'm not motioning out of there and getting isolated on the linebacker or none of that. I'm coming to see your best dude to make your best dude look like that's your worst dude he don't run from no smoke so him at people having him at five and then people want to talk about the quarterback play all these guys got like real deal like professional like pro pro type of quarterbacks they always say hurts this and hurts that out of all of them would it come down to his passing but like i say hurts throw the best deep ball and guess what aj brown most likely to invest at catching that D-ball. I like that.

12:38I like what he said. I like what he said.

12:40Shannon Sharpe:But I disagree with him. Which part? Talk to me. Let me let you go first. Chase ain't no scheme guy. No. Justin Jefferson ain't no scheme guy. Tyreek ain't no scheme guy. Absolutely not. Because their OCs are creative? Bingo. I'm glad you said it. It ain't my fault. that AJ doesn't have a creative OC. But he doesn't have to. You don't get to win the triple crown and be a scheme. You don't have 1 ,800 receiving yards in scheme. You that guy. Yeah. You that guy. Yeah. And when you that guy, you that guy. Yeah. Yeah. I disagree. And I'm not saying that AJ isn't a good, great receiver, however you want to categorize him.

13:37Shannon Sharpe:But I disagree with Slay on that part, that Chase and Jedha and Enrique are skipping. They're not. Yeah. They're not. I disagree as well. What Darius has to understand is when you have those players that are in your top five at the receiver position, A.J. Brown is in a position where they have so many other weapons where you don't have to be creative over there because you have a skilled player in A.J. Brown that is no different than having a Marvin Harrison. Chad, listen to me closely. I'm not saying A.J. Brown is Marvin Harrison. When Marvin Harrison lined up on, what side he was going to be on?

14:16He's on the right. He's on the right. He ain't going nowhere. A.J. Brown just happened to have that same skill set, that same dog in him, and that DNA in him where he knows he can line up and he can get out. I call it getting out the mud. You call it a play, The offensive coordinator don't got to worry about you. I just know Jalen Hurst could be blindfolded, call a play, slant, route, curl, out, whatever it may be, and he knows exactly where A.J. Brown will be at, and he can get it out the mud. When it comes to Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase, and some of these other receivers, sometimes you have to get creative in order to get them the ball.

14:52Why? Because they're going to roll covers to him every time if you keep him in the seat. Every time. they can't do that over there in Philly because you got that gangster in the back in the backfield where you got to drop that fucking safety down in the box right but Justin Jefferson you can line him up on the left side or the right side and say we need you to get open the rest of the game you can do like that too yeah

15:18Shannon Sharpe:my job my job as the OCO is to not let your job be easy because if I just line him up there I'm making your job easy easy yeah Roll the coverage. Find out where he is. And just roll to him. That's it. Period. I'm going to make you find my guy. But there are guys you can scheme, and you still can't get them open. No. Chase him. Jetta him. That's why on most everybody's list, when you see receivers come out, they're one-two. It's the same ones. It's one-two. Yeah. And even though Tariq had a bad year, and look, and I'm not saying because I like Aja. AJ is a big physical receiver. He's going to catch the ball in traffic.

16:01Shannon Sharpe:He's tremendous run after the catch. He can catch the deep ball. And sometimes he gets frustrated because he's not involved as soon as he thinks he should be. Right. Or as much as he should be. And he have lapses sometimes. But he's phenomenal. But that's why I disagree with Slay. I get what he's saying. He's like, look, the guy just lines up on one side and he says, okay, come see me. But see, Ocho, with that being said, even if Chase is not lining up on the same side, he still say you still got to come see me. Whether I'm in the slot, whether I'm on the right, whether I'm on the left, you still got to deal with me.

16:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. And there are a few players like that too. There are a few players if we were just playing basic football and saying, OK, we break in the huddle, I formation, and you just line up on the same side every single time. and the defense knows exactly who you're going to be, there are a few players, maybe eight or seven of them, that can say, you know what, I'm leaving you on that island and you're just going to have to get open. Right. That can actually do it. And it makes the offensive coordinator job easy when you have those type of players. It ain't that many of them at receiver. Everyone else, you have to condense splits.

17:14You have to put them in motion. You have to do all these things to get them open. Everybody can't get out there and just get it out of the muscle. it's very very difficult

17:26Shannon Sharpe:it is but y 'all doing him a disservice because if everybody knows where he is look here they ran stunts with LT they ran stunts with Reggie and Bruce that don't mean they couldn't do it but I'm not trying to just hey let's try to make the job easier so like I said I get what Slay is trying to say he's like look just imagine if they moved him around Just imagine, you know, instead of just lining up as the X, he lined up, you know, they put him in the slot and they did different things with him. They stacked him, so forth and so on. Okay, fine. But Jamar Chase is not a scheme receiver. Neither is Jetta.

18:08Shannon Sharpe:Neither is Tyreek. Now, I don't know the other guys that were in the top. I think they had AJ, so I don't know if it was Puka or if it was Nico Kopp. Yeah, CeeDee Lamb. CeeDee mainly plays in the slot. he can go outside but he's mainly in the slot the funny thing about those top five you just named is you could put you could switch the team you could put AJ in Cincinnati you could put Chase in Philly I can't hear you you hear me

18:43I hear you oh there you go you back

18:50Shannon Sharpe:I'm blurry You can see me? No, I'm looking at me. Did my life? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You good. Yeah. I say all those players we talk about, like, they interchangeable. You can put them on any team and they're going to be productive. Yes. Where they at? They're going to be productive no matter where you're at. You can put Tyreek. Welcome to On the Field. Today's hottest sports story is presented by On Nicotine Pouches. Breaking news here. 21:38Shannon Sharpe:Not look. I think the thing is that Chase was one, Jetta was two, Reek was three, CD was four, AJ was five.

21:52Shannon Sharpe:Almond Ross, St. Brown, Malik Neighbors. Boy, it's nasty, boy. Yeah, I think Nico Collins cracked the top 10. Nasty. Mike Evans. Oh, no. Garrett. Yeah, Nico was eight. Mike Evans and Garrett Wilson. Garrett Wilson and another one. Get you out the muscle. Can line up and get... It's so funny. It's only a few of them. As many receivers as there are in the NFL, it's only a few. I'm leaving you out here. I call it receivers that the offensive coordinator don't have to worry about. You make my job easy because I can do everything. I can do more with my offense because I know you can take care of your business.

22:34Shannon Sharpe:Right. I ain't got to worry about you. Yeah, I think the thing is that when you leave a receiver in one position, now you let them set their defense and they can like, okay, we're going to roll the coverage here. No, find me. Catch me if you can. Find me. I'm playing hide and seek. I'm in the slot. I might motion out of the back field. I might line up at Z. I might line up at X. Ain't no telling the slot, the wing, whatever. You know what? You know what? A good point, too, what Darius Slade just said. Now you get a better understanding of why A.J. was frustrated last year. Yeah, I knew why. There was no creativity.

Read the full transcript

23:09No. There was no creativity. You leave me on one side and allow the defense to dictate what we want to do. Why? Because they allowed Jalen Hurst to play into the confines of that offense and not do anything extra outside of that. If they're going to let you catch the ball, it got to be one-on-one.

23:26Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. and yeah I knew why everybody knew why and they tried to dress it up Jalen Hurst was throwing for 120 yards yeah yeah you're not going to win a championship with that and he got better and better and you see go look at his playoff numbers they got better and better and in the Super Bowl he was sensational every time he got one on one he made him pay for every time they gave him one on one he made him pay because Spags he was not going to let Saquon beat him. Yeah. He neutralized Saquon. But in the process of that, he left his corners on an island. Yeah. Yeah. And you saw what happened. As a matter of fact, I'm going to just throw this out there too.

24:16My honorable mentions as well, they're giving you a small sample size on what they can do. When Tankdale comes back and he's healthy.

24:24Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, he ain't come back this year. I don't think he come back this year. 26. My young bull over there in Baltimore, Zay Flowers. Zay Flowers. That's another one. Brian Thomas Jr. should have been on the honorable mention list. Brian Thomas Jr. Another one. We said Malik Neighbors, right? Yeah, well, he on the list. Oh, yeah? Okay, okay. Yeah, he number seven. Yeah. I don't have all the NFL teams in front of me. I'm just going off the top of my head based on skill set. I mean, you still got DK. You got George Pickens. You got Higgins. Oh, T, yeah, yeah. You got Judy. You know Judy belong in that conversation.

25:01So, yeah. Mm-hmm.

25:05Shannon Sharpe:Let's see. Lad McConkie. Lad McConkie. I mean, if you think about it, really, I mean, Amin Ra and CD were really the only slots. Right. See, that's what I don't like. The number of people that belong in the conversation, Some people get left out that are just as consistent as Amon Ross St. Brown or CeeDee Lamb, Lamb McConkie stay open. I think you only have a big year. They flowers. He stay open in that slot. I mean, but that's another conversation for another day. Yeah. I mean, look, when you have a top 10, obviously you got to leave somebody out. Cause you only got 10 slots. Yeah. They're like, give me 10 best rappers.

25:52Shannon Sharpe:well somebody gonna get left out because there are a thousand rappers past and present you okay give me your 10 best r &b singers well you're gonna leave somebody out if you go okay give me your 50 best you know uh women r &b singers somebody's gonna get left out yeah yeah you only got 10 slots so and you have to be okay because like man you know i bro it is what it is and people got to understand that that doesn't mean and you might make somebody else's list and not you know not someone else. Oh Joe we have more info coming out on Christian Wilkins. Adam Schefter shares was an awkward kiss incident between Christian Wilkins and a Raiders teammate.

26:36Shannon Sharpe:Wilkins kissed a fellow player on the head and the teammate took offense to it. The incident happened inside the team meeting room report says the interaction was playful but the teammate didn't see it that way shefter adds the incident was not the sole reason wilkins was cut is the real oh joe when when hold on this is a this is shefter talking yeah allegedly this is this was an incident that took place right when did men start playing like this ocho forget forget i understand it's 2025. It's a different time. And I don't care what your letter is in the alphabet. Be you. I'm cool with it. You be the L, you be the B, you be the T, you be the Q, plural, whatever the case may be, have at it.

27:27Shannon Sharpe:When did men in a football, in a setting like this, when did they start playing like this, Ocho? Was it after I left the game? Was it like last week, a couple of weeks ago, you stayed a little bit. I retired in 04. You retired in 2012 from the NFL. So you stayed a little longer than I did. So when did this start happening, Ocho? Hey, I don't know. I don't know. I think that's... Who plays like that, Ocho? The people I hang around, based on where I'm from, I don't see that type of activity. I don't see that type of... Listen, we have, excuse me, we have playful banners. But the playful banners...

28:03Yeah. And we conduct it. It ain't like that. that it ain't in that manner. So it's news to me. It's new to me. I don't know Christian Wilkinson. You know, Percy Wilkinson, I don't know him personally. You know, I know of him, you know, as a fun, energetic type of player. He's done some funny things, you know.

28:26Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, they got that picture when I think they were in the national championship game and one game and the guys on the ground. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's just – Yeah, I'm like, bro, guys don't play – look, maybe they do not. I shouldn't say – I'm just from an era where guys didn't play like that. Mm-mm. And, yeah, look, yeah, we horseplay. We might nail somebody locker shut. We might put powder or water in your shoulder pads, and when you grab them, it come down on top of you. Do guys horseplay around like that? Yes. Do we soak the rookie's clothes, put them in the cold tub, and then put them in the freezer?

29:05Shannon Sharpe:Yes. We've seen guys, you know, basketball players put popcorn in a guy's car. We've seen stuff like that. Ocho, and I've seen some stuff in the locker room. I've seen some guys play that even I was like, y 'all nasty, that gross, hey. But... Not to that magnitude, though. Not no kissing on... Not even kissing on the forehead. Not even no joke can matter. Yeah, I don't know. It's hard to say I'm not in the locker room. I wasn't actually there. And obviously, Sheffield did his best job in describing what happened. And obviously, no. Think about it, Ocho. Ocho, remember we talked about it. Of all the things they could have said, why did they say this?

29:48Shannon Sharpe:Now, they could have said anything. He stole somebody's car. He stole$1 ,500 from somebody. He forged a check. Of all the things they could have tagged a young man with, allegedly they put this yeah i mean well listen it allegedly that's what that actually would happen you know it had to come from somewhere so that means that's exactly what happened where there's smoke there's fire right where there's smoke there's fire so it is what it is whoever the player was they took offense to it maybe they got in a little scuffle maybe it caused an issue and maybe that was just the icing on the cake for them to release him based on the other issues and other incidents about him missing games last year and then not doing what's required to make sure he gets on the field in a timely manner this year maybe they would be fed up if i'm not mistaken ocho they said this incident happened earlier so i don't know if it happened say in the offseason it happened at some point in time during the season right um obviously there was there was a, a diff, a fracturing, a fracturing where they like, bro, you need the surgery.

30:54Shannon Sharpe:He says, no, it seems like he said, no, maybe they wanted a second opinion. He didn't want to get a second opinion because here's the thing. You could, you could like, okay, you got a torn ACL and not to say, well, you need to get this. So he's like, no, I'm gonna let it heal on its own. You can do that. I wouldn't advise it, but you can do it. They tell you to go get a second opinion, Ocho. You can do that. And both doctors say the same thing. You say, nah, I'm good. I wouldn't advise it, but you can do that. I don't get why he wouldn't considering he had guaranteed money. He had$35 million coming to him that was guaranteed.

31:34Shannon Sharpe:So he was at, I could see Ocho, if I didn't have guaranteed money coming in, if there was a situation like, nah, bro, I need to get on the field. but he got guaranteed money and so they say nah it's not healing like it's supposed to you need to have another surgery right i i just don't i don't get that that's what's being reported now we don't know what's true or not but look there the truth is somewhere in between this box yeah between the kiss on the forehead the second opinion they want him to have they wanted to have surgery again something the truth is somewhere in here ojo we just don't know where it's at but we think the truth is somewhere in this box.

32:13Well, listen, what you can do is you can hear the situations, right? And it's like having a puzzle piece. We got good pieces to the puzzle and you can just fill out the rest of the puzzle based on the actions that have happened and what you're hearing. You missed games last year. Yeah.

32:30Shannon Sharpe:Well, I think you only played five games, Ocho. I think you got hurt after the fifth game. Okay. Listen, we're going into a new season. You're still not healthy. You might have got a second opinion. Maybe your second opinion and said, you know what, you need to just relax and let it heal on its own. Maybe the team said, well, you need to get surgery. So, again, now we're going to another season. You missed so many games last year. Now the season rolling around again. You're still not healthy. You're not on the field. They see you on camera dancing around, you know, having fun and doing stuff that's not, for one, helping the team.

33:02Two, that's not helping yourself. And three, what we're paying you millions of dollars to do, you're not earning that. You're not earning that. Now you're not going to do that on our time or our clock. Right. And so they made a business decision.

33:15Shannon Sharpe:Yes. I agree. I'm looking at, like I said, if he's in the last year of his contract, he doesn't have this guaranteed money, and he thinks like, hey, I get it. I totally get it. But he got what he had already got, like$49 million. He got another$7 million coming this year. And then guess what, Ocho? He got another$25 million coming the following year. so he's protected that's why guys want these guaranteed contracts Ocho so I can be protected not just for one year but for multiple years so I get it but if the report is what Sheff is saying is true I just don't know when this started taking place guys like I said like I said Ocho I done put more I done gone through so many tubes of toothpaste, putting toothpaste on a guy's door in training camp.

34:12Shannon Sharpe:Because I know all he's going to do is just walk out the door and pull it shut. He ain't going to look back at it. He's just going to grab it and guide him. I done poured so much alcohol and lit it on fire up under the door. Yeah, we play pranks like that. But we know, look, you ain't, don't touch a man's, you know. Boy, I saw somebody almost got the brakes beat off him. He took his hair, he took his brush, took the dude's brush and combed his pubic, brush his pubic ear with it. With his brush? And put it back. Okay, so you see? People don't play now. It ain't nothing but a brush. It ain't that serious.

34:49Shannon Sharpe:People don't play. The way you play, everybody don't play like that. And you need to understand that. Right. Because you dealing with, like I said, I just don't get it. I just, like I said, I grew up at a time where men didn't play. Men rarely didn't play at all. I can remember my grandfather and them telling no jokes. Like I said, we told a story of my brother. I just sat down with him about somebody made a joke about my grandfather's teeth. My grandfather was driving off. He had his teeth. He had his false teeth. They were sitting on the dash. And got a Mr. Barney, don't let your teeth run away.

35:32Shannon Sharpe:And my grandfather put that car in reverse. stopped that car and got out. He said, don't play. He said, I'm old enough to be your dad. He said, don't play with me. He said, I'm a grown-ass man. He said, find somebody to play with and I'm not him.

35:51Shannon Sharpe:Man, probably about five six years before we spoke. My girlfriend, because you know back, old people should go to get the gas station to get that full service, Ocho. Yes, sir. You know what I'm saying? They ain't getting a pump that all gas. Then, hey, because you did the windows and you know what I'm saying, Ocho, you did the got the windows all night and you know they still do that they still do that do that in jersey huh oh they do that yeah they do that in jersey okay man and so i'm i'm i'm surprised i'm really surprised that uh in in today's society that allegedly what christian wilkins did i mean because he like i said there are some things that like and and and photos that surface and i don't know.

36:30Shannon Sharpe:It might be AI. It's hard to say hell. I done got the way. I don't really believe nothing on the internet anymore because I don't even know if it's real Ocho or if it's AI. Because AI got

36:42Shannon Sharpe:an alligator riding a horse. So Ocho, I don't even know what to believe anymore, Ocho. But I'm just saying guys, stop playing so much. All these people in pranks and all this stuff and you see people walking up and they trying to prank somebody and they doing all this stuff. Y 'all stop that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Come on. Come on now. You're going to get yourself hurt. Yeah. And the first thing somebody family going to say, they didn't have to do him like that or they didn't have to do her like that. No, you didn't have to play like that. Yeah. People, everybody don't play the same. Somebody going to let y 'all have it.

37:27Shannon Sharpe:So just stop. Just stop. Like you said, Ocho, that's a total stranger. You don't know them from Adam. And I know some – I got great friends, but we know how to play and we know what to say when we play, you know, certain things. There are certain things that's off limits, and you understand that. That's a total stranger you did it with. Go ahead, Ocho. You always know what line not to cross. You know your friends. You always know what can get that – what buttons to push. You know what buttons not to push. You know what line not to cross. and there's great understanding with that when it's someone that you've been friends with for a very long time.

38:03Now, when it's somebody new, like you're on a new team, a teammate that you don't know that well outside of that building, there's certain things you can't do. You can't conduct yourself, you know, the way you conduct yourself with somebody you know, 20, 25 years.

38:19Shannon Sharpe:That's why you go in a new environment, you sit back and you observe. Yeah. Okay, I can joke with him. can't joke with him or i can say something like this to him yeah can't say that to him you gotta read the room that's you bought a sofa you didn't have to assemble a suit someone measured just for you and now you're taking a guy's trip that actually matters you've upgraded a few things in life so why are you still running with rough nicotine pouches on plus nicotine pouches with nico silk mesh no corners no rough edges just the softest pouch on the planet you've evolved and this is what's next on plus nicotine pouches not all varieties available in all geographies warning this product contains nicotine nicotine is an addictive chemical on the new podcast solita we share the messy reality of traveling alone as a woman i can wait four hours for the next bus or this random dude is offering me a ride on his motorcycle i chose option b i'm julie pinheiro and i travel by myself because it's a rare space where i can say yes without asking anyone else first.

39:26I'm on a mission to reclaim the word solita, trading the pity for possibility. Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting people and they were like, you smiled at us. Not a lot of people smile around here. It's when you're alone that you're most receptive to the world as it is and not the lies you're sold about it. It can be a time where you push your limits, change your mind, or wake up to a new version of yourself. So whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too nervous to book your first trip, I hope you listen to Solita on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

40:04Hey, this is Hayes Davenport. And Sean Clements. We host the podcast Hollywood Handbook on the Big Money Players Network. Our show is extremely accessible to first-time listeners. Each week, we talk to someone in show business, a.k.a. The Biz, and try to help them with their careers and see what they have to offer us. Everyone has a good time and no one gets mad at their publicist for letting them do our show. We've had a lot of great guests like Sarah Sherman. Not that great. Actually, can you help me shape this? How about we flip it on his head? How about we flip the script? What if the surprise woman who actually you think is the straight man is actually the one who's acting weird?

40:44Adam Scott. This entire time, you've been expecting Adam Sandler to come to visit the show. I would never expect. Let go of that. I have. I would never set expectations for something like that to happen. If the universe allows for something like that to happen, I'm open to it. I'm always going to accept. You know, Danny McBride, fine. Yeah. It's all this fragile masculinity exuding. I could smell it walking down the hallway, to be honest with you. I was like, is that weed? Nope. It's fragile masculinity. Ben Stiller, no. Because a lot of times, out of context, people don't get it or even know what a circle is.

41:25You know what I mean? Like, they're like, oh, what's a state? Everyone's so dumb except for you. And fake. Right, fake and also not interested or just like, oh, I've got my pipe. I don't care about your life. And a lot of other big shots that wouldn't be where they are without us. Oh, and by the way, Will Ferrell told us personally he loves the show and he wants to be a guest on every episode, but he's just so busy. Listen to Hollywood Handbook on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. To honor our country on its 250th birthday, this can of Copenhagen goes out to those defending the free American soil that our tobacco has taken root in for over two centuries and counting.

42:08Here's to the calloused hands of freedom. Copenhagen, saluting American grit, proven since 1822. Warning, this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.

42:22Shannon Sharpe:While you observe, give yourself a month or two, three months, excuse me, to observe and see who you can and can't. Play with. Yeah, who you can talk to, who you can make jokes with, who you can do certain things to. You just need to be observant because being a locker room, because you got a lot of different backgrounds, don't you? People come from a lot of different areas. I mean, the social economic background, the different religions, the different ideology, how somebody was raised. You don't know what the trigger is. You just don't want to be the one to pull it. Right.

42:59Shannon Sharpe:So I'm sorry, the young man, but hopefully they get this resolved because he's extremely talented. He can play. Oh, yeah. He's gone to the Pro Bowl. He can play. Yeah, he can rush the pass. He's tremendous against the run. It seems to me that he really enjoys the game. Sometimes I think he enjoys it too much. But this, I just, like I said, we don't know Schefter's reporting that this incident did happen, but he's saying that's not the, that's not the sole reason of why they chose to go in this direction. We don't know. Like I said, that's what chapter is being reported. We're reporting. Basically we're commenting on what chapter is reporting.

43:42Shannon Sharpe:What we do know is that he's been released and they're basically saying, we ain't paying you. He filed a grievance with the NFL PA trying to get the guaranteed money that he believes he's old. We'll see how it plays out. Adam Schefter says Terry McLaurin is seeking a contract greater than that of D.K. Metcalf, the one that he received from the Steelers. Here's what Adam Schefter had to say. I would say D.K. was in the same draft class as Terry McLaurin. He got about$33 million per year. I wouldn't think that Terry is willing to take less than that. I think he wants considerably more than that.

44:20Shannon Sharpe:Washington, they're not there right now. they love the value Terry McLaurin but they love the value in him at a different price. McLaurin is in the final year of his current contract which he's due to make a base salary of $15.5 million and carry a cap hit of$25 million

44:42You just said they value McLaurin and what he brings to the team but not at that price well they got to find a happy medium they got to have a happy medium because all you got to do is flip the numbers I don't have the numbers in front of me I'm not sure what DK Metcalf has done the past 3-4 years I'm not sure what well I know Terry McLaurin he's had a thousand yards every season

45:07Shannon Sharpe:how many times you heard somebody say I like it but I don't like it at that price yeah all the time see that's the thing hey they like Terry they'll like Terry at that price because he said if what Shefter is saying is true he wants to be north of 33 30 so now that's CD CD's at 34 Jetta is at 35 now Chase Polvo and everybody and put it at 40 so look and he's looking at hold on I'm signing this contract turn on the effing film that's all I need to see turn on the film and I wish I wish Jaden Daniels had the kind of leverage and power which I think he does but as a rookie I don't think he wants to to push that button Joe Burrow went upstairs and Mike Brown say um boss man we need to get uno and we need to get five done I don't know how you're going to do it or what you need to do I'm not sure what the book yeah you got to get some years on this belt before you get that kind of cashier I know you don't have that kind of yeah that's a Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar, my homeboy.

46:20Right.

46:22Shannon Sharpe:But I wish. But he will. He will have that kind of hammer. He will have that kind of hammer. I think Jay Daniels understands the importance of having his number one target. For sure. I think the team, the owners, they all understand that. We talk about numbers. Find a number that's good, that's not insulting. He's not asking to be the highest paid. put me in the ballpark and where I belong and let me know you value me. That's all. Well, I mean, Schefter reported that he want to be valued more than what Minnesota valued Jetta. He want more than Cedar. You want more than Jetta? Here's the thing.

47:00Shannon Sharpe:If DK's at 33, the next is 34 CD, the next is 35 Jetta. So if he don't want 33, what he want? Oh. A 15 to 33 is, I mean. That's a big jump. A huge jump. I'm thinking they probably think. Is he trying to reset the mark? Not reset the marker, but be second chase? I don't know what he's trying to do. I'm just saying what Schefter said. Schefter says they were in the same draft class. I think Terry McLaurin and DK were in the same draft class. DK got 33. I wouldn't think that Terry is willing to take less than that. I think he wants considerably more than that. So you talk about 36, 37. Oh. Hey, that's going to be tough.

47:56Hey, listen, don't get me here to lie. Hey, that's going to be tough. That's going to be tough. I understand it. You listen, you got to fight for what you want. Because you only get, hey, listen, you only going to have this kind of leverage one time. Yeah. One time. So you got to get it right. Yeah. You got to get it right.

48:22Shannon Sharpe:So the question is, like you said, we don't, I mean, look, I don't know what he's asking for. Schefter, hey, maybe Schefter talked to his agent. I don't know. This is Schefter like shams and woes. Shams and woes. He ain't wrong. he's saying it's coming from somewhere hell yeah it absolutely is but like I said I like it I don't like it at that price right right hey Ocho I might like chrome heart jeans I don't like them at that price I love scary Terry man I hope we get what he deserves but you got to be willing to fight especially what you're asking for if what Adam Schefter is reporting is correct you got to be willing to fight you're going to have to hold your ground because one thing they will use against you you got that C on your chest you know they will use your love for the game and use it against you I know firsthand hey I know firsthand how that it goes Ocho oh we're going to stall him out he's going to fold at some point yeah he love the game he love being around He loved being around the team.

49:35Shannon Sharpe:He loved the guys, you know.

49:40Shannon Sharpe:The Titans have officially released Traylon Burks. So let's revisit the night, the 2022 trade. The Titans traded A.J. Brown for the draft rights, the Traylon Burks, Roger McCreary, Nicholas Petit-Farie, and Kyle Phillips.

50:01man I I saw the

50:03Shannon Sharpe:I don't know I don't know what Tennessee was thinking I still don't know so okay you saved money you didn't want to pay you didn't want to make you didn't want to pay AJ Brown what he what the value yeah what he had earned okay you saved money what has it gotten you they thought Traylon Burks was the answer they did because they say he's the same type of guy look at he's big he's physical bro if y 'all watched him y 'all watched aj brown they not they not the same they not but sometimes you get you get caught up you get mad at somebody and you convince yourself somebody is better they got mad at aj because he wanted what was rightfully he felt he had earned And they're like, nah, we're going to trade you.

51:01Shannon Sharpe:You should have paid him just for dabbing to deal with the quarterbacks that y 'all had. That's what you should have paid him, just on that alone. Yeah, listen, you know, year three, Franklin Brooks is going into his third year this year, yeah? Mm-hmm. Year three is normally the year that lets people know. It should make it a breaking year. Yeah. Maybe this might have been the year he figures it out. Well, he had broke his collarbone. So he was going to be out for like six to eight weeks. Yeah, that's messed up. The business is dirty, boy. The business is dirty, especially when the small sample size of what you've been able to show us so far, it's not enough for us to keep you around, to allow that collarbone to heal.

51:47Shannon Sharpe:No, absolutely not. It's players like that that I wish I wish I had the opportunity to work with in the offseason. Ocho, he had 59 catches, 699 yards, and one touchdown for a career. Wait, that's a career? Yep. Three seasons. You sure that's right? Yeah, that's what he's saying. He had played three seasons. He had 53 catches, 699 yards, two touchdowns in his NFL career. Oh. In 2022, he played 11 games. He had 33 receptions for 444 yards. In 2023, he played 11 games. He had 20 receptions. He had 255 yards. in 2024 he played five games zero receptions zero yards okay he must have been he must have been hurt and then just broke his collarbone yeah damn it's tough damn

53:01Shannon Sharpe:yeah I think it's fair to say the Eagles won that trade yeah you know I hope the Eagles probably like hey y 'all got any other players y 'all want to get rid of over there I hope he get another opportunity when he gets here oh he a first round pick so he'll get another opportunity young but I wonder what his 40 time what do you run the 40 in he's a first round pick hell he had to run fast he didn't run slow because if he ran slow there's no listen he ran 4.5 yeah hell shit I ran 4.5 but I played I played 4.3 there's a difference the game ain't played in a straight line and he look they keep see they thought he was going to be AJ Brown AJ Brown is a different type of receiver

54:00Shannon Sharpe:AJ was he ran 4.49 hey but they play so much faster than that 40 time man

54:17Shannon Sharpe:For sure, yeah.

54:22Shannon Sharpe:6 '1", 226. Oh, man. Oh, boy, he big, bruh. Yeah. Damn, 226? You can't look at him and tell? I mean, he about my size. Jesus. Yeah, you can look. Yeah. he's a physical receiver after the catch now he gets the deep ball but he wants the ball in his hands he wants the ball in his hand okay tackle me yeah you faster than me okay let me see how many times you want to tackle me though okay yeah okay you right I can't run yes yes yes oh that's crazy but I guarantee you after the fourth time you ain't going to want to tackle me two times I'm going to stiff arm you the third time I'm going to put my helmet right in your chest yeah you see what Marshawn Lynch say yeah he hits you in your face over and over and over

55:38Shannon Sharpe:Jared Jones said he just can't help himself today he said last year's chance for CeeDee Lamb's contract extension was much louder than yesterday's chance for Micah Jared said man that was a little faint noise compared to the way they were hollering last year paid Lamb whoever's not in you can count on a few hollering that but it was big and loud last year chance for Lamb I don't know I don't know listen I told you what I think Jerry's doing I told you what I think he's doing he's perfect every time he's not pranking us but every time it's time for a player to get paid even though he has to pay them top dollar I think he purposely waits to the last to the last minute for a reason he's doing no purpose so the attention can always be on the Cowboys so the attention can always be on be on him let's say what if he did pay Micah Parsons already what would be the conversation.

56:35What would be the conversation right now? Oh, Dak? What you going to do with Dak? What do you mean? Dak is scheduled to make what? 60, 61, 62? Something like that?

56:48Shannon Sharpe:60 million dollars. Hey, is he going to extend him? Extend him? He just signed it. He got two years. He got another year left on that. Already? Yeah, Dak do. Dak say I do. damn hey that's what I say Ocho that's what I say these years go by fast you look up I mean hey I just remember celebrating the 50th birthday now I'm closer to 60 than I am 50 and that's the thing you look up man this time ain't waiting on nobody Ocho it ain't one thing it would never do it would never say that you remember that quote you said about why you wear a watch remember that quote I gotta read that I ain't got my pad I will watch why Hey how valuable my time is Not to tell time

57:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah that guy After this year that guy have two years left Okay Okay Damn That killing them boy That killing them One hell of a team $80 million signing bonus $231 million in guaranteed money. That's what he got? That's what that got. Go ahead, brother. Yeah. You ain't mad at him. At all. I mean, you know how much a man got to pay? How much a man got to be worth to pay you$230 million and guarantee it? Come on now. Come on now. Hey,

58:28Shannon Sharpe:to the man that got$100 million home. How much money do you think he actually got? Quiet confidence. It's not what you see. It's what you feel. A suit tailored just for you.
