In short

The episode is a postgame Nightcap discussion of the San Francisco 49ers’ 27-7 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, plus debate about travel/rest, and a segment about an Australian fan getting a poor view and “fines” (fans allegedly penalized for seating/venue issues). Hosts Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson argue the Rams arrived too late (arriving about 9:45 p.m., sleeping in a hotel, playing ~12 hours later) while the 49ers acclimated earlier, making the 49ers look faster and more prepared. They credit San Francisco’s defense (healthy Fred Warner, Bosa, Lenore; fast, disruptive play) and Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme (misdirection, quick game, using Deebo Samuel as a “Swiss army knife,” and protecting Brock Purdy).

Notable examples

Stafford looked lethargic; Puka Nacua was limited except for one contested sideline catch; Trent Williams handled Miles Garrett one-on-one at times. They also discuss a non-contact injury to a 49ers rookie (suspected Achilles/ankle), and compare Purdy’s pocket composure to basketball “pick-and-roll” awareness.

5:25Shannon Sharpe:Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and thank you for joining us as you watch the San Francisco 49ers take down the Rams by the score of 27-7, and the game really wasn't that close. The Rams might have should have left a couple days earlier. They should have gone over like the 49ers did and get acclimated to this because I don't think that was a quick enough turnaround for them. But, hey, the 49ers look really, really good. The Rams not so much, and they win. The 49ers win 27-7. We'll jump into that game in just a second. Y 'all know who I am. I'm your favorite on. As we mentioned, the Rams lose to the 49ers by the score of 27-7. Hold on. They arrived at 9.45. Peter Schrager said the Rams are all in for tonight. They arrived 9.45 p.m. in Melbourne. They slept on the flight over. We'll sleep now in a hotel for one night. They'll wake up and play a football game in 12 hours. This is some trial-error approach.

7:59Shannon Sharpe:They spent since 15 staffers over the last two years to have tracked their body sleep rhythm. This is the approach not turning back now. First of all, which one of those staffers was going to tackle catch run throw a pass? Which one of those staffers gonna do that Ocho?

8:17Joe Johnson:Not one And I can tell you obviously when something has worked in the past most of the time teams coaches are willing to do it again and repeat the same process They did this before. I'm not sure if it was last year, maybe the year before They played abroad. They played Jacksonville they played Jacksonville abroad and they did this same method before and they had a huge huge success when they beat Jacksonville yeah but they didn't go this far Ocho right right right they they didn't go this far obviously Australia is a little bit different I like the process I like the approach that Shanahan took with his team to get in there a little earlier let his players rest a little bit get acclimated you know to uh to the time difference and uh I I I don't know I think when it's time to play football, you could better assess what it's like having to travel that far and does it affect you in any way?

9:09Joe Johnson:You know, flying in the day before or flying in way ahead of time. Yeah.

9:16Shannon Sharpe:It's already tomorrow there. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, do you know how many time zones that you have to go through? Your body's not used to that. You're going to play at 12 hours, then sleep in a hotel, and then fly back? Come on, man. You're not taking it serious? That's not... No, come on now. Okay. Okay, I get it. You want to go to London, you want to fly in the day of the game and all that stuff, but you're adding 13, 14 hours to a flight that's a six-hour flight. Nah, hell nah. I like the way Shanahan approached it. He's like, look, we're going to go over there. We're going to get our bodies acclimated to this.

9:46Shannon Sharpe:Mr. Cronk, he got way more money than the Yorks. He could afford to fly over three, four, five days earlier just like the 49ers did, get the team acclimated because did they not look like a team that was fatigued? Did they not look like a team that was tired? Which team look fresher? The Niners.

10:04Joe Johnson:Hey, listen, I don't even think which team look fresher or which team look tired. I think the 49ers just had their number. I think they just had their number. Defensively, obviously, they look extremely good. The first half, the 49ers were a little shaky.

10:17Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

10:17Joe Johnson:Boy, once the second half came, hey, Matthew Stafford at halftime, I think he might have been, what, 4 '11 for maybe barely 100 yards?

10:30Shannon Sharpe:Hey, you know what that you know what they tell you Ojo He he looked lethargic he I mean routine routine throws that he typically makes them look out to Devontae Adams I'm like how you miss him by that much, you know, I mean, so I think I think the flight Situation played a major part. I'm like you I'm like San Fran man Give me over there about a week five six days prior to the game so our bodies can get acclimated man You can't make no 15, 17-hour trip and think you'll turn around. Come on, man. They look like they've been on a damn plane for 15 hours. Coach, think about staffers. You send 15 staffers over there.

11:07Shannon Sharpe:What are they doing? They're going to get up, write papers, do what they normally do. They're not playing tackle football. That's not the same. You've got to send people over there and put them through the same rigors that you're trying to go over there and trying to simulate. When you simulate something, you don't simulate something, You don't take a football player and say, oh, man, this is great. And then say, well, go swing a baseball bat. Football players play football, staff for staff. There is no correlation between somebody's body that's going to get up there and file paperwork or do equipment work as opposed to an NFL football player that's going to go out there, catch, run, and tackle football.

11:43Shannon Sharpe:I don't think it's similar. Now, you might have somebody that says, oh, that's what you need to do for your body. And I'm sure they've done studies. But it's hard for me to believe, having played this game, I get it, Ocho, with what we do. We fly in, we get there about 3.30, 4 o 'clock, maybe 5 o 'clock. Yeah. Have a quick turnaround. We got meetings. Boom. Hey, we have our dinner, have a team meeting, have the last meal, and then we go to bed. That's what we fly in the United States. Bro, we're not flying no 18, 19 damn hours. Come on, man. Even when we went to the – if we flew west to east, we would go two days before.

12:24Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. And that's only three time zones. Yeah. Imagine going five, six, seven time zones. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, when you think about it, you look at – has anybody seen Miles Garrett? Did he – I mean, did he play tonight? He was hurt. I watched him. There's something going on with Miles Garrett. because if you look, all he did was run up the field. He did no change of direction. He did no up and under. Hey, if you notice, Myles Garrett normally shaking. He didn't do any of that. What's the problem? I think they said he got a knee. He got a knee. Something's going on with his knee. Well, I mean, the way you and Ocho talked about this defense, it was a next thing to slice bread.

13:08Shannon Sharpe:Well, 99 coming. Oh, man, come on, man. man. Ocho, we can't hear you, partner. You on mute. You on mute. You muted, Ocho. Hey, who muted me like that, man? Come on, man. Now you got Casper in there with you. Okay, go ahead.

13:23Joe Johnson:Somebody muted me. Hey, Joe, let me tell you something, right? Think about what the 49ers were doing offensively, right? Even if Miles Garrett wanted to do all those moves, he ain't had no chance, too. He won't get to the ball. He won't get to the ball. Everything was misdirection, quick game the ball is out chipping hey they line the tight end had to pull back release it to his side hey and also hey it's so funny to me right brock purdy was so comfortable if you notice it was under center do you notice he didn't go that far back and then drop back yeah it's like he sat in the pocket and was so comfortable with all that with all that chaos around him i'm like why you're not taking your full drop all the way back so you can see

14:05Shannon Sharpe:He wasn't tripping.

14:06Joe Johnson:He was chilling.

14:08Shannon Sharpe:Give the 49ers offensive line credit. They did a great job. Even though you neutralized Miles Garrett, you still got Turner. You still got Fisk. You still got Young. You still got guys that can get after the quarterback. I thought they did a great job of protecting Brock Purdy. I thought Brock Purdy did a great job of distributing the football. He even had one bad throw. Yeah. He's running up the field. He's like, this is me. This is me. He threw it right to him, too. that ball. Go ahead, Joe.

14:35Joe Johnson:One more thing, Uncle Joe. Listen, I'm not sure what the 49ers did during the week. I don't know if they watched film from last year. That's the only way to prepare to play a team like the Los Angeles Rams and probably know what they're going to do schematically based on down the distance and what you see. But them damn DBs, was running all the routes for Puka.

14:54Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man.

14:55Joe Johnson:They were running the routes for him. Now, I know there was one flag one time. He pulled that slingshot move on him. and launch yourself in front. That's a veteran move too, huh? As long as you don't impede the receiver, it works. So he caught him that time, but he still ran the route for him. And just defense, Raheem Mars, I don't know what you did this week, but I just want to salute you. I want to salute you on a great week one playing against a high-powered offense that we thought, that I thought, would go out there and put up 28, 30-some points. but that's a mid-season Los Angeles Rams to put up those kind of numbers.

15:36Joe Johnson:I didn't expect them to look as bad as they did tonight. And that's because of the defense and how well they played.

15:42Shannon Sharpe:Fred Warner's healthy. Bosa, healthy. Lenore, healthy. They got their guys back, Coach. You got to realize that defense was hemorrhaging last year because so many guys were injured. They had a guy go off like, I don't even know what happened. Number seven looked like he tweaked his – got like a lower leg injury. High ankle sprain or Achilles. That was his Achilles, huh? Okay. It's over with. It's over with. Hey, hey, hey. But I like Fred Warner, Ocho. It seemed like every time there was some action going on, there was a play needed to be made. Oh, the missile coming. Oh, that boy, the missile, he coming.

16:13Shannon Sharpe:Hey, he ain't playing. Hey, look, hey, and you gotta give Debo Samuel some credit, too. Debo's out there balling. Yeah. You know, the thing is, Debo had to learn the hard way. See, Debo thought he was a number one receiver. No, Kyle Shanahan just knows how to use you and make you look better than what. And don't take this as a knock, Debo. but everybody can't use you. Everybody can't scheme schematically like Kyle Shanahan and get the best out of your ability. Just to try to feed you 12, 13 balls, that's not your game. We're going to run you on a reverse. We're going to put you in the backfield and hand it to you.

16:43Shannon Sharpe:We're going to throw you a couple of jailbreak screens, Ocho. Hey, we're going to do a lot of different things. He thought he was looking at all these other receivers. I can do that. That's not your game, Deebo. You're a phenomenal player, but you're a phenomenal player in a certain type of a scheme. And I know a lot of guys don't want to hear that, Ocho, but sometimes you just got to be realistic with who and what you are. Yeah. Go ahead, Ocho.

17:08Joe Johnson:No, I'm going to say with Debo's style, the way he plays the game and how he's a Swiss army knife, he'd be great in Kansas City. Yes. He'd be great in L.A. Yeah. He'd be great in San Francisco. Yeah. And the only other creative officer coordinator that I could think of that would use him the right way. That's about it, ain't it?

17:29Shannon Sharpe:That's it.

17:29Joe Johnson:Andy Reid, McVay, and Shanahan.

17:32Shannon Sharpe:Yes. Yeah. And where did he enjoy his most success? In 49ers? He goes to Washington, wants to be a number one, basically tells him, don't try to sign me. I want to go somewhere else to do my thing. Y 'all not. Okay. And look, we barely mentioned Debo's name. Debo's a phenomenal player. He can return kicks. He can return punts. He can run the ball. He's physical. He's a physical receiver. You can hand him the ball, you can toss him the ball, throw him on a jailbreak or a smoke screen. Yeah, he can get loose on the overs. And you see how he stayed alive on a fire drill. Yeah. But I thought Kyle Shanahan does a great job of using Debo.

18:14Shannon Sharpe:I thought he had a great game plan tonight for what they were doing. If you notice, they started – Kalen Black read the ball a lot in the first half. and then the second half, especially in that third quarter, they gave the guard to C-Mac. If you know this Ocho, you know this Joe, C-Mac put on some weight. Yeah. To try to be able to withstand that punishment. Yeah. Being lean is fine and good, but boy, it's hard to be, when you're a running back, to be lean. Absolutely. Them legs hurt. You stay hurt. Them legs hurt. Hey, hey, hey, they got, I like Brock Purdy, man. He showed a lot of poise and patience in that pocket, Uncle Ocho, and when he did step up and use his legs, that boy was getting somewhere.

18:52Shannon Sharpe:You hear me? That boy was making plays outside the pocket. I thought he got Mike Evans. I thought he got Mike Evans going early. Mike Evans looked good, didn't he? Yeah, he did. He did. He did. So, hey, man, I just think defensively, they looked a lot faster. Offensively, they looked faster than the Rams. The Rams, they looked very lethargic. Man, you can't take no long flight like that, Ocho. No 15, 17 hours think you're going to get off a plane and do something.

19:17Joe Johnson:And play the next day, Joe.

19:18Shannon Sharpe:Man, please. Come on. I ain't going to lie. because I was like, man, them running backs moving fast out there because I thought the Rams run game, that little two-headed monster they had back there. Yeah, Blake Curry and Kyron Williams, yeah, they look good. Them boys were getting up through there. But the skill position, outside of Puka, they really didn't do much in the past. I mean, Devontae called a couple of passes late, but the game was out of reach. Wasn't nothing really happening. But Puka, man, Puka's so great after the catch. Man, you see that contested catch he met on the sideline?

19:48Joe Johnson:Yeah, and told the linebacker, man, get up. Get off me.

19:52Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. Hey, so look, when you think about it, it's rest versus rust for me, Ocho. The starters ain't played all preseason, bro. I mean, let's just keep it 100. You know what I'm saying? So now, this is the first time getting live action. You had to take a 17-hour flight. Come on, man. I don't know what we expected from the Rams. I didn't know that until I was watching the game. Oh, yeah. Hey, Ocho. Yes, sir? Can you imagine, you know how stiff you are when you take a, when you fly from, when you fly from Miami to Seattle, you stiff. Now, mind you, fly from Miami to Seattle, Seattle back to Miami, Miami back to Seattle.

20:31Shannon Sharpe:You just went to Australia. Now you tell me you're going to get off and go play a game in 12 hours and look fresh. Yeah, exactly.

20:40Joe Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Well, you know how, you know how pop me half a field, boy. I be ready tonight. All right, man.

20:46Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You all ready stiff? if you ain't gonna need no peel. Fact, fact, fact.

20:53Joe Johnson:You already gonna be walking like Frankenstein. Hey, you know what? And we talk about Miles Garrett and you know, you say him might have an injury coming out of camp, whatever it may be, but that goddamn Trent Williams boy.

21:05Shannon Sharpe:Ooh, Trent, hey, hey, hey. That boy, hey, Trent, Trent had him a game now. You hear me? He ain't nothing to play with now. Hey, Trent had him a game. If Trent had his hands on you, all right now. Oh, Joe, he had Miles a few times one-on-one by himself over there.

21:21Joe Johnson:I'm talking about handling it, though. Yeah, yeah. Hey, he's one of those offensive tackles, Uncle Joe, especially at the left tackle position. When it comes to playing elite players like Miles Garrett, there's going to be times where we have to leave him one-on-one. And that's one of the few players, you know what, I don't have to worry about him. Now, what you lose occasionally if you leave him over there one-on-one, you know, majority of the game, yes. But for the most part, hey, listen, Trent, we need you to lock him down. We know he had 23 sacks last season, but we need you to do what you do.

21:51Joe Johnson:It's the reason why we pay you top dollar. You hear me? Hello, Dale. Hey, we need you to kick. Step, step, step. Hey, come on now. Use this bank. I'm mad, please.

22:01Shannon Sharpe:He got nicked up early, but he's still one of the premier left tackles in all of football. He's not to be played with. He's not to be messed with. Not only is he extremely skilled, he nasty. He got a mean streak.

22:12Joe Johnson:Very mean. And so he did an unbelievable job.

22:17Shannon Sharpe:The 49ers as a whole, Brock Purdy, 25-34, 205, three touchdowns, the one horrible interception. Christian McCaffrey, 10 carries, 68 yards. Kalen Black, 14 carries, 65 yards. Brock Purdy had a long 18. He had 29. 30 rushes. What did they have? 174 yards. Nice. That's a nice balance. 174, 205. Nothing hectic. I mean, he got pressured, what, a couple times? Other than that, he had clean pockets the whole night. Yeah. You got to make a guy. If you do not make these quarterbacks uncomfortable, you're in for a long night. I don't know how you win a game if you don't make them uncomfortable.

23:01Joe Johnson:Hey, I say it again because I've really never seen it. I've seen it before, but most of the time, you see quarterbacks step up into the pocket. Yeah, yeah. I saw Purdy. it looked like he wasn't taking his full step back so he can be able to see and then step his way into the pocket. He takes small steps in the pocket and sits right there around him, and he chilling, Joe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm like, well, you're not – I'm no happy feet. He's not rushing, no nothing. He's just sitting there like I trust the boys around me to do what they're supposed to do, and I'm going to get this ball out on time.

23:34Joe Johnson:Like he – I mean, I've seen it, but I haven't seen it that much where he did it every single play. single plate.

23:42Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Ocho, I can equate that to basketball. You know, running that pick and roll, playing in traffic, guards playing in traffic. Ocho, with guys reaching in and they don't do nothing, they don't faze you. You have to have a sense of awareness just like a quarterback, bro. Yeah, I know it's a bunch of hands and bodies flying around me, but for you to be able to, you know, focus and lock in and it don't bother you, that's where you talk about, you know, some of the great ones, the elite ones. You know, they're able to play under a lot of pressure and under different circumstances, and they can still, you know, come out on top.

24:15Shannon Sharpe:And I thought tonight Purdy was perfect at that, bro. You know, when he did use his legs, he's kept his eyes up the field, and he was making plays. Yeah, look, Purdy, I mean, to become Mr. Irrelevant and to be a quarterback, turning yourself into a quarterback that's making$55 million a year, he's deserved that. He's earned that. He's earned that paycheck, and he's been the guy. he saved Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch's job. Because they traded all that draft capital to get, oh boy. Just imagine if you don't have him and you're stuck with what you got. Oh yeah. He bailed him out, Ocho. He did. Trey Lance.

24:56Shannon Sharpe:He bailed him out. A lot of people don't, but there had to be some because why would you, normally people don't draft a quarterback. trade draft capital to take a quarterback third in the draft and still draft a quarterback. That's telling you there's still some uncertainty about it. Mike Shanahan did the same thing with RG3. Y 'all remember? He took RG3. They traded all that draft capital. And what did he do? He took Kirk Cousins in the third or fourth round. So there was some apprehension there. Now, you probably said with man, Shannon, they were just, hey, that was just a backup plan. That's the seventh round draft pick, Mr.

25:33Shannon Sharpe:Irrelevant. But boy, if they don't take him and they're just locked in on Trey Lance, yeah, we, I don't know how they survive that to give up that. Because you mortgage your future. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

25:48Joe Johnson:You mortgage your future for that guy. I wonder what it is that Shanahan saw so early. We understood that, nah, this ain't it. I think. He's not the one.

26:00Shannon Sharpe:I think in drafting quarterbacks when you're really not sure, you know, making it a competition, whether you draft another quarterback after him, let him know, hey, this job, you got to compete for this. You know what I mean? Like you couldn't have been that sure if you drafted another quarterback like right after him. You feel what I'm saying? Yeah. Well, the thing was is that Kyle has a lot of similarities to his father. I played for his father is that they'll eat that money. He's like, it ain't my money. I made a mistake. Man, Mike will bench your ass in a minute. I don't care how much you make it.

26:36Shannon Sharpe:You don't play well for Mike Shanahan. You're taking your ass to the bench. Kyle Shanahan is the exact same way. If you don't play well, I don't care how much money you're making. You're going to play well or you're going to the bench and you're not going to be here after that. I've seen it too many times. I've seen Mike do it. So all this notion talking about, oh, money don't mean nothing to the Shanahan. I promise you. If you're not playing well, don't worry about it. Don't even worry about it. They got something for you. They got to play for you. To the bench your ass going. Oh, Ocho, 49ers rook is De 'Jones scribbling with Carter off to the locker room.

27:14Shannon Sharpe:Somebody took him into fantasy. For real? Ocho did. Ocho talking about he was balling. Wait. Uh-oh, Ocho. What's that dude you took in fantasy? You like, man, he been cutting up in camp or something.

27:27Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah, he was. It might have been him, but it's okay. You know, I got some other receivers. You got some other receivers you can throw in there, Ojo. He might have saved you. I did, I did. But listen, the way he fell, non-contact injury, he ran a little dig route, short dig route, about 12 yards. And when he cut in, he stepped and just fell. As soon as he fell, based on the way he fell, I'm like, man, he done blew his Achilles. Oh, man. Yeah, because ain't nobody touching.

27:52Shannon Sharpe:No, nobody touched him. I mean, anytime you have a non-contact injury and you go down like that, I hate it, but I'm thinking the worst. Ooh! And let me tell you something. ACL, meniscus, I mean, normally those, you know, I'm thinking Achilles. It's just the way it is, because people just don't fall, just don't drop like that. Hey, think about this. Think about that flight he gonna have to get back on and he had that, oh my God.

28:20Joe Johnson:And let me tell you something. You can tell us Achilles. When players tell their Achilles, they all fall the exact same way. Same way, same thing. They grab, same place. And most of the time, they don't even grab at the back of the ankle. They grab up near the calf.

28:36Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

28:37Joe Johnson:Near the calf, not understanding that pain. You know, that pain flow all the way up. For those that I've talked to that have tore their Achilles, right? Yep. What are they playing on out there in Australia? What kind of turf? I think it was grass, Ocho. It was grass. it was great do you see what i'm saying where you're complaining about one but it it it's not

28:57Shannon Sharpe:that it's not that might be the it might be the 49ers playing near that power plant oh man come on nah in all seriousness though man he's like you you hate to see guys go down like that because because the thing is you put so much work in it it's not a hit if we get hit ocho we get hurt We understand that right Joe, you know you get bumped or something like that you understand that But to go down in the fashion that which he went down he's like I'm running around like yeah like ah damn I mean we didn't see it, but if you go back and look at look at a KD when he tore the key leaves you can see a baby like a guitar string always Yeah, huh?

29:48Joe Johnson:slow motion.

29:49Shannon Sharpe:You can see the ripple. Yes. Tyrese Halliburton did the same thing against OKC a couple of years ago. You can see that thing just pop like damn. I wonder about that.

30:03Joe Johnson:Uncle Joe, what do you think that comes from? When you tell your Achilles and nobody is touching you, all you're doing is you're pushing off or you're trying to take off and transition from left to right. I don't understand, especially if there's nothing pushing or tugging you. I understand that part. You know, somebody tugging on your jersey and you pull your hamstring, you know, something's straining you and you're trying to go one way and something is pulling you back. I get that. But when no one is doing anything, I don't understand.

30:30Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, I've asked guys who've had that injury. Some have said that, you know, they had no – He injured his ankle, Ocho. Per Kyle Shanahan added the rookie of the Achilles was intact. Was intact? Okay. Oh, it wasn't. Wait, hold on.

30:44Joe Johnson:His ankle? but he just made a cut and just fell down. That was five minutes ago. Okay, that's a good thing. That's a good thing.

30:56Shannon Sharpe:That's a good thing. But I mean, I've stepped foot. I'm hyperextending my knee, you know, stepping foot in.

31:04Joe Johnson:Your body was relaxed, huh? Yeah. I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. Hey, Joe, you ever be walking down the stairs and missed a step by accident thinking you were it bottom yeah yeah yeah man hey ain't no i i can't i come down step at a time it's sideways too don't

31:23Shannon Sharpe:you mind boy huh boy you think hey you think i wasn't the most side the rouse nick the most side while the rouse coming down that's that's i'll be coming down i'll be stepping in that thing gingerly uh gingerly i can't remember the last time i walked hey i face forward face and walked Man, I got the rail and everything. I'm pretty about to have me one of them, the chair that take me upstairs.

31:47Joe Johnson:Hey, you gotta chill.

31:49Shannon Sharpe:You gotta chill.

31:50Joe Johnson:Hey, remember the movie, The Gremlins? When the - Yeah, I remember, yeah. And she trying to get up, yeah.

31:54Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, hey. Ocho, a fan traveled to Australia for the game, posted a view from the first row seats, and he could barely see the field. Check this video out, Ocho. Let me see, let me see.

32:07Joe Johnson:Let me check him out.

34:41Joe Johnson:Hey, I'm curious. That's the sideline, right?

34:44Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, that's the sideline he looking at. That's the players that he backs and looking at.

34:48Joe Johnson:Well, I'm curious. Is this a rugby stadium probably?

34:51Shannon Sharpe:Probably. Yeah. Or soccer. Yeah, probably soccer.

34:55Joe Johnson:Yeah, I think I would say more rugby.

34:57Shannon Sharpe:Rugby because, yeah, Australian. Yeah, Australia.

35:00Joe Johnson:I see, I see, I see. Oy, oy, oy, oy, oy, oy. I mean, I'm sure you should have known. Obviously, before you buy tickets, you have a diagram of the seating and where you'd be sitting. I'm not sure why that's...

35:15Shannon Sharpe:It's a cricket ground. Melbourne Cricket Grounds. A massive oval. Some front row seats are roughly 50 yards from the NFL field.

35:24Joe Johnson:Come on, man. Okay, okay. I'm sure you got this. When you buy tickets, it shows you where the tickets are. He shows you where the field is And where you'll be sitting And how far you'll be away from the field I'm sure he knew that So to post something like that As if you didn't know before you took that 14-15 hour flight Come on now You think he knew Ocho? I don't think he knew

35:47Shannon Sharpe:I don't think he knew either I think the thing is Ocho Ocho you know you said Hey front row seats If somebody tell you front row seats I bet my boss from front row seats to a concert I told Smooth, you know Smooth, Joe. Yeah, I know Smooth. I said Smooth, Smooth gave me my money back. I said, man, I'm in the front row. I'm looking at dude nuts all over my head and everything. I said, oh, hell no. Don't ever put me in no damn front row again. Hey, Joe, I'm looking up like this in the basket right on top of my head. I said, man, Smooth, what the hell you doing? Smooth said, my bad, my bad, my bad.

36:22Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah.

36:23Shannon Sharpe:From that point on, I ain't never saw the front row.

36:26Joe Johnson:Damn that front row. But, Uncle, think about this too, right, Uncle Joe, right when you're buying tickets i'm sure you had those tickets in advance right it's not like you just bought tickets at the last minute to fly all the way to australia that's something that you plan ahead of time knowing that your team i'm sure you did play but hold on but when you buy tickets uh you know they show you the diagram you know you choose the tickets where you want to sit i mean

36:47Shannon Sharpe:it's right there in front of you now you know if i tell you front row seats you think it front row seats yeah now you had a you had a concert you get a visual get top the dude playing to get top So you got to look up like this here.

37:02Joe Johnson:No, you never want to sit front row. You know, that's why they're...

37:06Shannon Sharpe:He's thinking he got great seats. Most people say, I'm going to the comedy club. Man, I got front row seats. Oh, I'm at a basketball game. I got front row seats. Front row normally mean the best seats in the house. That's what I'm thinking. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

37:20Joe Johnson:Hey, hold on. Now, that depends on the event. That depends on where you're going. So you got to understand. A football game, I don't want to sit front row. So, football game, I want to sit on the second level, somewhere between the 30, the 40, 50, or 30, 40.

37:34Shannon Sharpe:You want to be between the 20s. Obviously, ideally, 40s and 40s, but most people, you're cheap ass, you ain't paying for that. So, look, you're going to be from the 20s to 20s. No, I'm going to be at the 50-yard line.

37:45Joe Johnson:I pay 50-yard line.

37:46Shannon Sharpe:You ain't paying for no 50-yard line seats. In the third tier, yes, I am. That's beautiful seats, third tier, third level. I know it is. But that level, that's club level, Ocho. No, that's right below the nosebleed. No, no, hell no.

38:02Joe Johnson:So you talking about you going to sit in the upper deck? Yeah, because it's a good visual, especially if you're in between the 240s and the 50s, you can see everything.

38:11Shannon Sharpe:No, I ain't sitting in the upper deck. Not me. Got you. Not me. I ain't sitting in the upper deck. I'm going to be in the suite. So you keep back. Joe, I'd rather watch the game. Honestly, I just rather watch the game at home.

38:27Joe Johnson:Yeah, you're not supposed to sit in the suites. When you go to a football game, when you go to a soccer match, or you go to, I mean, hockey, you need to get the true experience of a game. That's exactly what you're supposed to sit. You got to be out there with the fans, huh? You got to be out there with the fans.

38:40Shannon Sharpe:We're in the stadium.

38:42Joe Johnson:He don't want to deal with that traffic.

38:43Shannon Sharpe:He ain't trying to deal with all that traffic, man.

38:46Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, when I go to the Bengals game, I got to sit with the people, Joe. I got to sit with the fans, Joe. You know, even though they'd be bothering me, I'd be like, hey, listen, I love y 'all. I'm back in Cincinnati I appreciate y 'all but I want to lock in and watch the game

38:59Shannon Sharpe:yeah

39:00Joe Johnson:and that's it

39:02Shannon Sharpe:but I didn't have a couple drinks they ain't trying to hear what you're talking about man alright go yeah Joe I'm going to be able to switch me honestly all things being equal the best place for me to watch my game is in my entertainment on the couch I might not have I might not have the food that they got Ocho in there, Joe and Ocho in there, because normally the sweets that I've been a part of, they got some real nice food up in there. Yeah. Real nice. But that's all right. I have Shelly make some cheese dims, some nachos. I'm good. We go buy ribs. I can have us a tailgate right here. Ain't got to worry about no traffic.

39:46Shannon Sharpe:Ain't got to worry about no long lines to go to the bathroom. Oh, man. That's the worst. commercial come, I can get up and move around and do something else I want to do. That's just me. Some people are like, man, I love that experience. Ocho, he want to be out there. He want to be amongst the people. I just want to be in my home enjoying the game.

40:07Joe Johnson:It's just not the same, Uncle Joe. It's not the same, man. When you go to a game, when you go to a sport event, it's all about the experience. If you want to be in the suite, that's for the famous, you know, I'm too good to be with the regular people. No, I want to see.

40:22Shannon Sharpe:Nah, it ain't too good. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I want to be able to watch the game. Everybody at Ocho don't want to be bothered. Well, you can stay home if you don't want to be bothered. No, you can stay in the suite. And from the suite, you know, you get a good view. You get a good view. A great view. Yeah. I'm with you. I don't know about y 'all, but the suites, Joe, the suites I bid in, they bid pretty good for me. Man, them sweets at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Shout out to Lil' Mooney. I know he ain't with the Falcon no more, but boy, he hooked me up a couple times last season.

40:58Shannon Sharpe:You hear me? Yeah. Hey, Joe, be careful, Joe.

41:01Joe Johnson:Don't, don't, don't, hey, don't call no name. Don't snitch on nobody. We don't want to be like, you know. Dang, because he gave me some tickets? OK, yeah, yeah, just be a, yeah, yeah, yeah.

41:11Shannon Sharpe:Oh, OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got you. I got you.

41:14Joe Johnson:I got you. Got other people getting in trouble by mentioning names and old stories. Mm, OK, OK. You feel what I'm saying? Yeah, I got you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We don't want to be like them folks.

41:22Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I got you. I bet he's thinking like, man, I flew all the way over here. I could have stayed home long. I mean, because think about it. You fly way there. You got to fly way back. Man, that's a day and a half trip. Yeah. It is. What team? What was his team? You spent a day and a half flying. Who was his team? And that's the experience I got? Nah, here.

41:41Joe Johnson:He's probably 49ers fans, so he should feel good anyway.

41:46Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you know what? They do say that sometimes. You know what? It wasn't that great of an experience, but we won, so I can make do with it. It was worth it. It was worth it. Yeah, hell no. I'm trying to think, what event? Well, Ocho, I already know soccer. Joe, what event you'd be willing to fly 17, 18 hours to go see?

42:12Shannon Sharpe:It probably ain't won. I ain't going to lie. It probably ain't won.

42:16Joe Johnson:Wait a minute, Joe. 17, 18 hours ago. Hold on, Joe. Wait, wait. Listen to me now. Listen to me. Now, the World Cup just left here, Joe. You told me that the World Cup experience for you, being that you've never been to a soccer game, it was awesome. Oh, it was phenomenal. I enjoyed it. So think about this. The World Cup in what? 2020, 2028 if I'm not mistaken?

42:36Shannon Sharpe:Yes.

42:37Joe Johnson:Yeah. You wouldn't... 30. Now, it's like to go across the world. The Olympics is 28, Ocho. You said, hold on. 30, 30, 30. My bad. So you You wouldn't fly 17 hours to get that experience again?

42:50Shannon Sharpe:Hell no. Hell no. You think I'm gonna go across that for 17 hours to go watch a soccer game? Oh no. Yeah. If they told me Jesus healing people, I'ma fly 17 hours. Other than that, you hear me? First class. Yeah. Hey. Like old people say, I just wanna touch the hem of his garment. Other than that, no sir. Ocho, you want me to fly 17 hour man

43:15Joe Johnson:go watch the soccer game until you let you let me fly 17 hours watching no soccer i thought i thought seeing the world cup games i thought they left a lasting impression on you

43:30i can't wait to 2030 roll around so you're gonna go to portugal you know the game in uh world cup

43:36Joe Johnson:is in portugal no why i go to portugal i can watch it like the experience uncle

43:44Shannon Sharpe:Nah. Hey, Chad, where's the World Cup in 2030? Hey, Ocho, I mean, but you know I have flown a long way for some things now. Oh, yeah. Yeah.

43:56Joe Johnson:You flew way, you flew eight, nine hours.

44:02Shannon Sharpe:I was young, Ocho.

44:03Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, let me tell you something. Age is just a number. You still young, huh?

44:09Shannon Sharpe:I am young. Yeah. I'm young and I'm young in actual years, right? But when you play football tackle football for 14 years

44:19Joe Johnson:Listen, you got to be able to separate the two you got to be able to separate the two, you know When you can no longer function for yourself Walking you are still able-minded still able-bodied. Oh, yeah, you're not old

44:31Shannon Sharpe:You're not you know, I'm not oh, but I still ain't flying no 17 18 hours to see nothing.

44:36Joe Johnson:Okay, my bad damn my bad oh hold on now now there's somebody you're flying c-17 16 you're flying 1760. who who huh oh oh it's always somebody you're willing to make that sacrifice for now 17 hours oh man stop telling my business you told us you told us here hey hey hey hey joe what the more people you say well what i told you about

45:07Shannon Sharpe:I'm not talking behind people. Repeat what you heard somebody say. Hey, hey, and when you young, you don't mind moving like that. No! Yeah, when you get a little older, boy, you be like, I wish I might. Yeah. Man, when I worked with CBS Ocho, I used to fly from Atlanta to California. Yes, sir. Sit down with somebody from the Raiders or sit down with somebody from the Chargers and turn around and jump right back on the red eye that night and come back home. Damn. Yeah! And think nothing of it. Jump on a flight go to Detroit the day before Thanksgiving I jump on a flight go sit down with somebody in Detroit for the Thanksgiving Day game hop on that Get there early in the morning wait about two hours.

45:46Shannon Sharpe:They have a break get that interview get on a plane go to New York

45:51Joe Johnson:You know, it's funny. I have a schedule similar to that on Joe. I was in Miami But I was working on a beach report at a Cedars Palace beach Football season so for six months uncle Joe I used to have to fly to bleach report to the sports in Caesar's Palace every weekend. Every weekend. So I fly in, fly on a Friday, I'm here Friday, Saturday. You know, you have your meetings based on what you're gonna talk about, what you're gonna discuss, watch the game. And then we do the live show in the sports book. Then I get back on the plane. I did that every weekend for football season from Miami to Vegas, Vegas back to Miami.

46:27Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I - Well, that's a long flight too.

46:29Joe Johnson:It is.

46:30Shannon Sharpe:But you, Joe, when I was young, I'm at my twenties. didn't bother me, not a whole lot bothered me when I was 20.

46:39Shannon Sharpe:Now, the way me and Jordan be flying man, Jordan done got platinum status. But Jordan be walking all fast, go ahead, I catch you.

46:54Shannon Sharpe:Joe, I be carrying my bag like a footballer. I got my bag and my arm like this here. Yeah, Joey's like, hey, just put it on top of the ball. You only got one of that roller. Joey said, just put it on top of your ball. Man, that bag feel like it's 50 pounds. I can imagine. Yeah, I don't know what you be thinking of Joe. He going to fly 17, 18 hours. Yeah. To the knowledge, Joe.

47:19Joe Johnson:Hey, Champions League, Europa League, regular soccer games. Now, obviously, they're not 17, 18 hours. but for a big game like a Champions League final, boy, I fly wherever. World Cup in Russia. World Cup in South Africa. You know, man, I was, man, I was, man, peace sign. It didn't even think twice. No. Hey, hold on, Qatar. I didn't think twice. I was out there for a whole month for the World Cup. Man, I'm not tripping, boy. Man, that just, that's reserved for things that you're actually passionate about. When it comes to the beautiful game, I'm actually passionate about that. I'm willing to do anything for that, Joe.

48:01Shannon Sharpe:Man, Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown, at least one touchdown in every game last year. He didn't throw one tonight. Speak volumes if you ask me, fellas.

48:14Joe Johnson:Yeah, I hate Joe. You know what I don't want to do, Uncle Joe, is a lot of us, especially last night with Drake May, it was a bad game. It was a game that we don't expect from a quarterback that has experience that were just in the Super Bowl last year, but I don't want us to overreact, especially with a quarterback like Matthew Stafford, you know, who is exceptional, has one of the better arms, has a slew of talent around him. I think this is just one of those games that got away from him, and it's only week one. I could be wrong, though.

48:45Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, but I'm not comparing Drake May to Matthew Stafford because Drake May hadn't played well in a while. Go back and look at the game that he played against the Texans. Right. Go back and look at the game. He didn't play that well against. They won. They won. Yeah. Can't take that away from him. Yes, sir. We're talking about his play. Last night, you think he played well?

49:06Joe Johnson:No. No. No.

49:07Shannon Sharpe:I don't think so either. But, hey, they won. That's all that matters. They didn't win the game. Matthew Stafford, I believe Matthew Stafford played better. They won't have to travel like this anymore. The 49ers said, look. 49ers didn't want to travel this far because we packed so far. That's a little quick trip for us. That little two-hour, little up and down. Yeah. Two California teams. Stadium packed out with red and gold. We good.

49:43Joe Johnson:Yeah, and you know what? The players and the coaches might hate it. Maybe the owners might hate it, but the owners probably not tripping because they bottom line at the end of the day. The NFL, you know what their bottom line at the end of the day. You want 18 games? You want to continue to expand the game? These are some of the things that we have to do. We got... Oh, man. What happened, huh?

50:02Shannon Sharpe:It just dawned on me. I got Matthew Stafford as my quarterback. For real?

50:10Joe Johnson:You serious? Yeah. Oh, you ain't get both nicks?

50:18Shannon Sharpe:Man. Because he thought Matthew Stafford I'm gonna come out here and throw for about four touchdown game one. I hate it. Can I get one? I hate these folks. We gonna build up to the four, Joe. Hey, I can tell you this. Hold on. Who said I was gonna start? What if I wanted to start Jerry Goff? Who told y 'all I want? You didn't go in there and reset? You ain't do your lineup? Oh, you don't know how to do that? No. Oh, yeah. I got y 'all beat.

50:44Joe Johnson:Who is y 'all? You. You and? Joe, who your starting quarterback, Joe? Dakota Prescott. Okay. Yeah. Okay. You know who my starting quarterback is? Who? Burrow? Yeah.

50:58Shannon Sharpe:Okay. Man, I think about Matt and I say, man, look at this last year. Four touchdowns, two, three, two, three, two, three, two, four, five, one, three, three, three, two, two, one. Hey, don't worry about it. You got caught in the moment. You going off of what he did last season. and he will MVP, you know, through for a bunch of y 'all. You like, oh, yeah, I know you're going to come out and give me. We pick our fantasy. Hey, hold on, Joe. Why you pick Dak Prescott? Because what he did? Hey, Joe. What he going to do? No, no, what he going to do? That's why I picked him. What he going to do? Okay.

51:32Joe Johnson:Yeah.

51:33Shannon Sharpe:John's got something for you.

51:34Joe Johnson:Yeah, okay. Yeah. Let's not be fooled now. By what? Matthew Stafford is still going to put in those same numbers. It's going to look just like that. That 443213421. Yeah, he going to get right.

51:46Shannon Sharpe:Oh, yeah, it's going to get right. Wait till next Sunday. Okay, listen, listen. He probably gonna get right, but they ain't sneaking up on no damn body, okay? They gonna get everybody's best game, so y 'all can cut that out. Yeah. Miles Garrett got absolutely shut down by Trent Williams. 27 pass rush, zero pressure. His first game with no pressure since 2018. T-Dub reminding everybody, y 'all know I'm a first ballot, right? Yeah. Absolutely. Y 'all know what I do. All I've been hearing you on Ocho Hall about. Man, He Nicked, Joe. He what? He Nicked. Hold on, did he put his pads on? Did he put his shoes on today?

52:23Shannon Sharpe:Did he play? Was he out there? If you Nicked, if you Nicked, your ass out there playing, we ain't giving no excuses, okay? If you injured, sit down, okay? Yeah, I know. Yeah, we ain't trying to hear all that. Yeah, yeah. You bought a sofa you didn't have to assemble, a suit someone measured just for you, and now you're taking a guy's trip that actually matters. 54:52Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Man, you got to get right. All right. To summarize the Rams in Australia, it's the fewest point seven that they've scored with Matthew Stafford as the quarterback. First double digit loss since 2024. It's the fourth time in Myles Garrett's career he's finished with zero tackles and zero hits on the quarterback. Rams start the season 0-1. Yeah, man, y 'all thought the 49ers would let them boys. First off, the 49ers know them boys they got in town. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, I wouldn't have picked the Rams. I wouldn't have picked the Rams not going over there the day before. Hell no.

55:31Shannon Sharpe:Them boys applying pressure out there, man. Come on, man, who the folks out there gonna go over there and beat? Hey.

55:37Joe Johnson:For real, 17-hour flight. Hey, the 49ers won, and they won without De 'Juan Love, too, bro. They won without De 'Juan Love.

55:46Shannon Sharpe:How about, it looked like I had De 'Juan Love at quarterback.

55:52Joe Johnson:Hey, oh, man.

55:54Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe. The Miami Hurricanes beat FAMU 77-7. Oh, Lord. Beating with so bad, Miami FAMU coaches mutually agreed to shorten the fourth quarter to 10-minute Miami had 856 total yards. 856 to 107.

56:13Joe Johnson:Hey, I got a question. What's the question? I got a question. We got answers. Before we started the show, who decided to talk about this? Because this is really hard. You did. Not me. Definitely not me. Nobody consulted me when it came to having this topic. Listen, fam, you lost the game, right? But let me tell you what fam you did.

56:32Shannon Sharpe:What did you do?

56:33Joe Johnson:FAMU scored a touchdown. Okay. To me, that's a lot. The Miami Hurricanes were in the national championship last year. That was last year.

56:40Shannon Sharpe:We talking about this year.

56:41Joe Johnson:And they're even better this year. That's the whole point. So there was no way in God's green earth that FAMU even had a chance at beating, let alone – You said it was going to spring to upset.

56:54Shannon Sharpe:You said upset upset. Ain't that what he told us, Joe? Yeah, he said it. You said it. You said it. Come on, come on. Come on. I got a question, though. Which one was worse? the 83 to nothing or the 77 to 7?

57:05Joe Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, South Carolina State put 87 on them. They ain't even score. They had a donut. Boy, at least we scored. Boy, look here.

57:12Shannon Sharpe:They almost had a thousand. They almost had a thousand total yards. They were 144 yards. Had they not shortened the game, Ocho, they'd have beat y 'all 100 to nothing.

57:24Joe Johnson:Unk, we are talking about an HBCU against a powerhouse of top three schools in the country.

57:31Shannon Sharpe:I don't give up.

57:32Joe Johnson:Listen, hey fam you, hey my Rattlers, we good. We pack our little bag, you know, to get our little check, get our little check and get to see for next week. Hey, and we gonna - Rattlers dropped off, Joe. We gonna strike next week, don't worry about it. I know what. I know. I'll tell you what we did one tonight. What? The band, we won the halftime show.

57:54Shannon Sharpe:Oh yeah, y 'all won the halftime.

57:56Joe Johnson:We won the halftime show. Now what? Yeah.

58:00Shannon Sharpe:Hey, there you go. Darian Mensah was 14 of 15, 252, three touchdowns. Malachi Tony, four receptions, 96 yards, a touchdown. Backup, Luke Nickel, 8 of 8, 144, three touchdowns. So, in other words, the quarterbacks combined was 22 of 23 for 396 yards and six touchdowns. Hey, y 'all hear me? It's levels. It's levels to this. It's levels to it, don't you? How about an HBCU, Joe? It's live. That's what I'm saying. An HBCU playing a power five, a top-ranked team like the Hurricane. Come on, bro. Yeah. I know, fam, you the little brothers to Miami. But come on. That's where they going to stay in now.

58:44Joe Johnson:Stop playing. I mean, listen, at no point. Y 'all might not even beat Bethune. Huh? Why you bumping them? Y 'all might not beat Bethune. But Bethune ain't beat us in the last nine games. The last Florida class. They ain't beat us in the last nine tries. Huh?

59:00Shannon Sharpe:Guess what?

59:02Joe Johnson:Them mini cats, you know, down there. No disrespect to any Wildcats we got in the chat. Much respect to Cookman, because my mama and my grandma joke. They went to the boom. Oh, did they? Man, they were dragging me to the Florida Classic since 1984. How do you think I fell in love with FAMU? Yeah. I've seen that band strike. I'm like, what in the world? Who is that?

59:23Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

59:24Joe Johnson:My mama popping me, talking, boy, be quiet. That's the wrong thing. Yeah, so that's my little grandma. With the Bethune? Yes. My mama was the cheer for the Wildcats. Hurricane Paula, she was a cheerleader. Yeah, Hurricane Paula, man. Followed right behind my grandma. Both of them was Wildcats. It's time for college. I ain't even had no grades to get into FAMU. How bad I was. Bethune either.

59:55Joe Johnson:yeah man so a lot of people like what we are love for fam you always talk about families and fam that you always got on fam attire fam gear dude my mom and my mama took me to every single florida classic it was in orlando first in orlando from 1984 85 86 87 every single year the only time i got a chance to stop going to the florida classic was when i got to high school because It's during football season. We play on Saturday. They play on Saturday, so I couldn't go.

1:00:26Shannon Sharpe:Aaron Rodgers called Packers head coach Matt LaFleur a clown for saying Jordan Love was better pre-snap than Aaron Rodgers. Take a listen to this, guys. Who said that? He's probably still mad I changed too many of his plays.

1:00:43Big statement when he had a guy winning back-to-back MVPs. I guess I wasn't doing too much at the LOS. Matt's a clown, man. He says some things from time to time that are funny. Then he's like, oh, maybe I shouldn't have said that. He's backing up his quarterback. I'm sure J-Lo's a real good line of scrimmage. But come on, man.

1:01:09Shannon Sharpe:The one thing you can't say about Aaron Rodgers, He will not let one slight, regardless of who says it about him, he ain't letting ish pass. Former coach, former teammate, president of the United States. If you say something about him, he might not mention. In this situation, he mentioned his name. Sometimes he don't mention names, but you know who he's talking about. A-Rod ain't going to let nothing slide.

1:01:38Joe Johnson:You got to understand, his name was mentioned. So since his name was mentioned, when he revoked back, he's going to mention the name. I understand Michael Ford has to defend Jordan Love. I understand that. But you got to understand, Aaron Rodgers is actually on that field. So when Aaron Rodgers is on that field and a play comes in and he sees something else with his own eyes based on what he can see that's in front of him, he's going to change the play. Now, at times, coaches, they don't like that. You got to think. This is my team, in a sense. That's the way they think. It just is. I'm calling a play that I see best fits us based on what we're trying to do.

1:02:13Joe Johnson:And if I call something and you're sitting there changing it...

1:02:17Shannon Sharpe:Well, the man went back-to-back MVPs. He must be changing it for the better. He knew what he was doing. Hey, look here. You can say... Listen. He's probably going to take anything at a negative light. But why you got to just say, hey, all you got to do is say Jordan Love is really great pre-snap read. You don't got to compare... say he's better than Rodgers? Yeah, that's too much. I mean, the man got four MVPs. Only Peyton Manning got more. So how bad – boy, look here. Jordan Love better win five MVPs and at least get to a couple of Super Bowls before we can have this conversation. What are we really talking about, Chad?

1:02:56Shannon Sharpe:I mean, let's be realistic now. Hey, that man and his feelings about that man changing them plays. I thought – I would think elite quarterbacks – Okay, Ocho, when they get to the line of scrimmage and they see something different here, I thought they all, yeah, you would all change, you know what I mean? No, no, not all, Joe, not all. No, not all, Joe. I said the elite ones.

1:03:17Joe Johnson:Oh, yeah, yeah. There's only about four or five of them could do that, Joe. I tell you, I'm playing that game right now. If I see something I don't like, even though the call came in from Zach Taylor, oh, Joe could change that thing. Pat Mahomes, he see something else? Oh, no, man, scrap that, scrap that. I'm changing this up. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, they have the leeway to do that.

1:03:35Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. but I would want my quarterback I trust my quarterback enough a guy that's been in the league this long and has played exemplary as Aaron Rodgers has you might not like some of the things they say you might not like his views I don't know who arguing saying that he ain't a damn good quarterback he's a great quarterback he's as good a thrower there might not have been one thrower better of the football than Aaron Rodgers and that's Dan Marino but he a top three quarterback as far as arm talent being able to throw change arm angles There ain't very many players better in the history of the game.

1:04:08Shannon Sharpe:Damn, he's played in his era. I'm talking about the history of the game. He's damn good. But this is what you got to – it happens every time. Anytime, you don't get to be this good without having a chip on your shoulder. Yep. He takes anything as a slight. Let me ask you a question. You don't think – so if Josh McDaniel says, you know what, Drake May's brother pre-snap than Tom Brady. What y 'all think Brady gonna say? If somebody say Coach Tom, they coach Peyton Manning. And they say, now, how you gonna be better than Peyton Manning? He called his own damn plays. I don't know, but hey, let's just say for the sake of art, we had that discussion.

1:04:49Shannon Sharpe:Look, the man's human. You're taking a shot at me. Yeah. I don't even think McDaniels would even have the nerve or the gall

1:04:59Joe Johnson:to even say that. Hell no.

1:05:03Shannon Sharpe:Amen. Yes, I am surprised that Matt LaFleur spent a number of years with Aaron Rodgers in the quarterback room, having meetings with just him, one-on-one, what you like, what you don't like. I kind of like this. What would you like the check to be? He knows Aaron Rodgers' personality. He knows A-Rod ain't going to let his shot slide.

1:05:26Joe Johnson:He's very vocal.

1:05:27Shannon Sharpe:So why even put that stuff in a situation? Now, I am surprised that he called him a clown. Yeah. I'm surprised that he came with that harsh of a language. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I thought he said that.

1:05:40Joe Johnson:It's Aaron Rodgers we're talking about. He's always been very vocal. You might be right, Ocho. You might be right. You're right. I'm not surprised at all. My bad. I got a question. Now, what would make this even more interesting is if the Steelers got the Packers on these guys somewhere down the line. Now, that would make it more interesting.

1:05:58Shannon Sharpe:Green Bay play the Steelers? Please somebody please say yes. I don't know. I'll pay me on the schedule. It might be

1:06:08No

1:06:10Shannon Sharpe:No, he doesn't have he doesn't have the wheels that he was have he's still he still had he still can He still can sling it give him some time. Like I said, he's not as Fleet of foot as he once was but But that mofo could throw the football, man. I mean, bro, you throw 45 touchdowns with six picks. Look at all the years that he had double-digit touchdowns, 30-28 and 28-2, and he's got 35-6, and he's got all these gaudy touchdowns and interceptions. He still has the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in NFL history. Yeah. Hey, man. You know, I seen it firsthand. The number he used to put on them Cowboys.

1:06:53Shannon Sharpe:I mean, he probably had some of his best games against the Cowboys, just keeping it 100. Oh, that throw that he made on the sideline? Oh, that dash? When he rode out left, he rode out left. To the tight end. Yeah. Yeah, I remember that. He went to Jared. Jared Cook called the ball. They said he went to Jared. Yeah, that boy wasn't nothing nice. I remember that. Yeah, but like I said, I don't know why LaFleur, when you got a historically great quarterback, you know, just say he does some things. He does a great job of free snapping the line, kind of like Aaron would do. But to say he's better at it.

1:07:30Joe Johnson:Yeah.

1:07:35Shannon Sharpe:Because clearly he's gotten out of some good play. Gotten out of some good play. Plus, it might be a situation where Aaron wanted to go for it. I remember he wanted to go for it on fourth down against Tampa. Yeah. And Matt LaFleur elected to kick the field goal. And they really never got the ball back.

1:07:50Joe Johnson:Yeah. Hey, I like, remember that time they tried to get Peyton Manning off the field? I forgot what game it was. And I don't know, was it Dungy? I forgot who the coach was trying to send the kicking team on, the punt. And Peyton, man, y 'all. That might have been. That might have been.

1:08:08Shannon Sharpe:Get off the field. That might have been that Monday night. Yeah. That Monday night against Tampa, excuse me, Chad.

1:08:15Joe Johnson:Man, Peyton told them boys, man, y 'all go back to the sideline. I got this.

1:08:19Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. Ain't a whole lot of quarterbacks got that kind of pull. What? He the only one. Hold on. You think Tom Brady would wave Belichick off? Absolutely not.

1:08:30Joe Johnson:No. No. Because I can see the mic. Peyton ran practice. Everything.

1:08:39Shannon Sharpe:These are the plays that I want to run in practice. This is the coverage that I want to see in practice. Peyton ran the meetings.

1:08:45Joe Johnson:Everything.

1:08:45Shannon Sharpe:No other quarterback did what Peyton Manning does.

1:08:48Joe Johnson:Matter of fact, hey Joe, goddamn Peyton Manning was a Tesla before Tesla's was invented. Yeah. Doing everything on his own boy.

1:08:58Shannon Sharpe:He was, he was. The brain man, that Joe Gaudela, he's special. He lived it. Being around him since he's been in Denver and seeing how his mind operates and his football. His football, his wife, I take my hat off to you, Ash, because he is prep 24-7. When he's in that zone during football season.

1:09:32Shannon Sharpe:I do not envy those women that have those type of players as husbands to have a Tom Brady, to have a Peyton Manning, to have a Drew Brees, to have those guys that is all-encompassing and they know the weight of the world is on their shoulders. and I got to be mom, dad. I got to go to all the meetings. I got to go to all the soccer practices. I got to go to all the recitals, the PTA meetings. I got to do everything. I'm mom, dad, chauffeur. I'm all of that.

1:10:03Joe Johnson:They understand what they signed up for and they understand the sacrifice.

1:10:06Shannon Sharpe:They understand it. They understand it. Anybody, no matter the greater the athlete, the greater the sacrifice, not only that he or she makes, but their partner has to make. Everybody ain't cut out for that, they think they are. We think they are. And you come to realize, bro, all you do. I mean, Joe, I had a girl break on me, she said, I can't do it no more. I don't wanna go out and have you eat chicken breast and rice and get a salad and drink water. Right. I eat that at home. I wanna go and I wanna have a nice meal and I want you to have a nice meal. Well, that is a nice meal for me. Hey, you got a chunk of the deuces.

1:10:52Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I know what you want me to do. Hey, you know, greatness is very selfish. I know we always talk about it, but when you're immersed into whatever it is that you're doing, your profession, bro, especially as a professional athlete, Uncle Ocho, everybody has to know, bro, you come second to this. I'm sorry. I don't know if you know that, but you come second to the game now. Everybody say they can handle it, Joe, until they're actually immersed in it. and then they see how devoted you are to this craft and how great you want to be and the sacrifices that you're willing to make. Everybody says they can.

1:11:25Shannon Sharpe:Oh, that ain't no problem. I'd love to support you until they're actually in it and they actually have to support you. Yeah. And then they see you sitting around the house. Man, you boring as I don't know what. Hell yeah, I'm boring. Yes. I preserve my energy. You know what I mean? Because I'm going to have to experience it. Yeah. So let me ask you a question. What you think Michael Jordan did? What you think Kobe did? What you think all the greats do? They perfect their craft. Greatness is very boring. It is. It's a very monotonous process because you do the same thing over and over, trying to perfect this craft.

1:11:59Shannon Sharpe:Yep. So if you want somebody that's going to go skydiving and bungee jumping and all that other stuff.

1:12:06Joe Johnson:Hold on. Hold on. Vacations, traveling everywhere, taking pictures. No. they want the finished product of what the game comes with. They don't want all the stuff in between. They don't want the meat and potatoes. They want the fruit to the label that come on the back end. You know?

1:12:27Shannon Sharpe:Ain't nobody trying to build a house. Everybody just trying to move in. Yeah. That's what they want, Joe? Yeah. Who's going to sit there and let you pour concrete, pour foundation and then put, erect those walls. Yeah. And then put, who doing that? And put insulation and paneling, who gonna do all that?

1:12:50Joe Johnson:Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Now you even let that fly by the chat, man. Bring that back more time. So the chat, y 'all can write that down. You know what it is Ocho? Right there, ain't nobody trying to what now?

1:12:58Shannon Sharpe:Ain't nobody trying to pull no foundation. Everybody just trying to move in the house. Yeah, yeah. That's what everybody want. We ain't fooling nobody. And I wish it was that simple. I wish I could just snap a boom. It's a process. It is, bro. And you're right. It takes a special someone to know somebody who's on that journey and really to ride it out with them.

1:13:23Joe Johnson:Yeah. Anybody trying to build a house, they just trying to move in. That was a bar, boy. Everybody wants to finish product.

1:13:33Shannon Sharpe:That's why I can't. It's hard because there are a lot of things. Even an athlete, even a player. Everybody don't want to. Who tried to develop? Ain't nobody trying to develop nobody anymore, Joe. I need you to be Shea today. Yeah. Not two years, three years from now. I need you to be Jokic right now. I need you to be LeBron. Yeah. Man, why you can't, bro. Yeah. Hey, look. They don't want to have to do too much development now. You know what I mean? No. They don't know. Hey, hey, hey. They want you to be able to hit the road and get going. They don't want to have to spend too much time, huh?

1:14:09Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, come in a little season, man. Yeah, there you go. Don't come in too raw. Give me something to work with. If the foundation coming, you know, be a little season with me. I ain't want to do too much work with you. I just want to sharpen you up. There you go. You know the pencil, right?

1:14:27Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:14:27Joe Johnson:Put that thing in a sharpener. Come on, come on, man. Give me something to work with.

1:14:31Shannon Sharpe:I'm with you. But we done got lazy. We don't want to do no thinking for ourselves. What we run to. chat gpt ain't nobody doing no more thinking buddy sam joe joe and joe hey hey hold on chat gpt give you a whole game plan joe will i don't know anything you got people boy that is so smart man that's chat gpt i typed the same thing and it gave me the same thing that's why everybody can't be a farmer because what you got to do you got to sow the seeds and wait for the crops. Even the animals, they start out as piglets or cattle, calves. You got to feed them, fatten them up, whether you slaughter them or you sell them.

1:15:14Shannon Sharpe:You got to wait. Man, ain't nobody trying to wait. Ain't nobody trying to wait. Growing up on a farm like, man, damn. Man, we planted these sweet potatoes a long time ago with them. When are we going to get a chance to dig these things up, Joe? planting peanuts. Where are we going to be able to eat? Man, I need a bad letter for this. I already know it, boy. Oh, wee.

1:15:41Shannon Sharpe:Aaron Rodgers also says he's a big fan of Dak Prescott and doesn't understand all the criticism he receives. Let's take a listen to this. I don't know how people rip on Dak all the time, but I'm a big Dak fan. I like the way he plays. I mean, he had a year, I think it was 22, I believe, 21 or 2, and I watched, I think we had some common opponents, and I watched a lot of his film, and I just said, damn, he's playing really, really good football. And we had a couple battles in the playoffs over the years, but I've always been a fan of his. But I just thought, you know, under Mike, he was playing on time and controlling the line of scrimmage and making all the throws all over the field.

1:16:15And, you know, that's what we did in our heyday back in Green Bay. You know, we attacked defenses. We were aggressive.

1:16:24Joe Johnson:I can tell you, I can answer that for him real quick. And I'm sure Aaron Rodgers knows. He's been in this game for a long time. He understands what it comes with when you had that star on your helmet You know judge differently your critique differently, you know, they're gonna chastise you a little bit differently, you know, not because Who is wearing the helmet because it was on the helmet. Yeah, no matter who you are, especially when you play that position Oh, it comes it comes the territory

1:16:51Shannon Sharpe:Yes T-A-T-I-O-N-S expectations. Yes. Aaron Rodgers knows what comes with playing the quarterback position if you're good. There's a certain level of expectations that comes along with that. Yeah. Are we missing something, Mocho?

1:17:13Joe Johnson:Hold on, hold on. Now, there's a level of expectations playing the quarterback position, but there's no level like that of being the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Now, it's a little bit different. No, being being that quarterback in general, but I

1:17:29Shannon Sharpe:Go ahead go ahead.

1:17:30Joe Johnson:No, I'm just saying you you was right. I was just I was just saying the difference as opposed to being the quarterback for the other 31 teams and Being the quarterback for the America's team

1:17:41Shannon Sharpe:It's just going to show you just how unrealistic the expectations are. They haven't won anything in 30 years They didn't win a Super Bowl in the 80s. They won three of the 90s. They didn't win in the 2000s They hadn't won any of the 2010s, and they haven't won any way, and we're three-quarters of the way through the 2020s. Yes. But you see what the expectations are? How they set those unrealistic expectations? If you would have thought, if you didn't know better, you'd think they were the New England Patriots. All right, not too much now. Y 'all ain't done with that joke. I'm just saying. I'm just saying.

1:18:13Shannon Sharpe:I think the flag that that gets is because he doesn't have playoff wins. Big moments. Huh? You talked about it when he played Green Bay. When he played against Green Bay, whether it was Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, how did he look? It was bad. When he played the Rams, Joe, when they came out to the Coliseum and played the Rams, how did he look? You know exactly why. The same reason you get those same criticisms, Aaron Rodgers, the same reason. Yeah. Because when you played San Francisco and you let Jimmy G come to your place and beat you, that's why. It ain't no secret. People are like, well, I don't know what.

1:18:51Shannon Sharpe:Yes, you do. Yes, you do. The same reason, Aaron, you got the criticisms that Dak receives. Now, your resume is more complete than his. MVP, Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP. Kudos. But you know why you received the criticism. The same reason Dak receives the criticism. Man, Chad, y 'all know this. we used to eat Peyton Manning alive. Yeah. They killed Peyton. Even his teammates talked about him. There ain't nobody. The only one really – there was a time that Tom Brady won three Super Bowls in his first five years, and then he had that long stretch where he didn't win anything until he beat – it was getting on him.

1:19:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah, I know he had three Super Bowls, but when was the last time he won a big game? Yeah. that's just the way it is in sports when you become that guy that's what comes along with it

1:19:57Shannon Sharpe:you got to have broad shoulders to play sports and to be great at it Magic Johnson was a two time finals MVP he turned the ball over in 84 and they nicknamed him Tragic a two time finals MVP yeah

1:20:14Joe Johnson:because he turned the ball over yeah yes it was an important moment though i'm assuming it was an nba finals against the boston celtics

1:20:26Shannon Sharpe:but but but ocho when you plan for these historic franchises like the cowboys like the lakers like like boston the knicks the yankees it's different bro you excuse me you get a different type of scrutiny than everybody else. It's just what it is, man. It comes with it.
