In short
Nightcap Hour 1 combines (1) a boxing-focused interview with Claressa Shields after her latest win, and (2) sports talk about Von Miller signing with the Dallas Cowboys, plus a brief discussion of podcast/TV ad revenue and roster-building.
Guests (and backgrounds)
Claressa Shields, undefeated, multi-division undisputed women’s boxer (17+ belts mentioned; 19-0 stated). Chad Ochocinco Johnson and Joe Johnson are the hosts; they discuss football and boxing.
Key claims
Shields says her mindset was about perfecting craft (sitting on punches, jab to body, torque, seeing/landing intended shots) rather than changing “who she is.” She reports losing 38 pounds in 14 weeks for the fight, feeling strong, and maintaining power at 160. She dismisses critics as “hater talk,” claiming she’s beaten multiple pound-for-pound caliber fighters and that opponents “team up” when they can’t beat her. She says she’s open to fights with Mikaela Mayer (and possibly Lauren Price) and rejects Cyborg as a “cloud chaser.” She also says she plans to have a child in 6–8 months.
Notable examples
Her opponent Kate Scott; Shields’ body attack and stoppage in the sixth round; Floyd Mayweather’s comment (“You wasn’t looking like me”). Von Miller’s nine-sack season with the Washington Commanders and his move to Dallas.

Guys, I hear y 'all talking about the ads, but every time we post these graphics, y 'all talking about the graphic team needs a raise.
8:37Shannon Sharpe:Oh, you need to get a rabbit team to raise. Oh, you need to get this person to raise. Okay, they get a raise. How you say they get a raise? When we fly all over the country, we got Joe, we're in New York at Fanatics Fest. We're at the Super Bowl. How y 'all feel they get paid for?
8:52Claressa Shields:Yeah.
8:53Shannon Sharpe:I'm just curious.
8:54Claressa Shields:Talk to him. Hold on, hold on, how about the guests? How about the guests we have on? We think the guests coming on here for free? Yeah, they do. They fake that.
9:02Shannon Sharpe:Man, you got it, you got it. No, they got it. Now, when all the ads went away, y 'all was like, man, Uncle lost all them ads, all them ads. Now they coming back and y 'all still got something to say. I just need to pick one lane. See, y 'all be, I know y 'all, y 'all insurance is high, cause y 'all be all over the place. Y 'all start in the right lane, move to the left lane move to the center lane but damn what y 'all want us to do hey i got 15 employees we got 15 employees i ain't talking about joe i'm not talking about myself i'm not talking about ocho i'm talking about from jordan to ash to other eps to editors and graphics to social media people yeah how do you think we pay for those people when we're on the road when ocho have to when ocho travels when joe travels how you think they travel.
9:49Shannon Sharpe:I know Ocho told y 'all he travel spirit, but not with the old club. Sheche Media Dive, he ain't travel. Spirit. Stay in nice and top-line hotels. I know y 'all know hotels. Y 'all travel. Y 'all know hotels. First of all, y 'all know once these economy airlines went out, the other airlines kept their prices, jacked their prices up. They even told you when the gas prices was going on in Israel and between Israel and Iran, they told you, we ain't lowering these prices. Oh yeah. Guess what? You gotta fly. You ain't got no choices.
10:21Claressa Shields:You got no choice.
10:22Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. So, Hey, you know what? I wish we could do it ad free. Nah, nah, nah, nah. I wish we could do it ad free. Go ahead Joe. Hey, what I'm trying to tell y 'all, Chad, hell, that we gotta pay bills with them damn ads, okay?
10:39Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey boy. You remember, I don't know if you guys remember, there was one time there was protesting going on outside of Guston Nationals. Gusta Nationals did it without any ads. They said, you know what? We ain't taking no money. What did they do the very next year? Went back and got them ads.
10:55Claressa Shields:Yeah. Ads are important. The Super Bowl.
10:58Shannon Sharpe:You know how much the Super Bowl charging this year for ads, guys? $8 million for 30 seconds. Woo! 240 ads. Woo! Damn. Yeah. For 30 seconds? I got a little three minutes worth of ads. They're a little three minutes worth of ads. That's our little three-minute joke.
11:17Claressa Shields:That's it. I just, I promise you, I promise you guys,
11:24Shannon Sharpe:if we could do it without the ads, we would. It ain't possible. Yeah. If it comes on television, why you think something that comes, anything that comes on for an hour, 30 minutes of it is ads. I was on network television. CBS, we had an hour show, 28 minutes were ads. So you got only a 32-minute show. I'm just trying to tell you guys how TV works. You're not doing it without ads. Radio, TV, podcasting, whatever you want to call it. Digital, if you don't want to use the term podcasting, you want to use digital without ads, it ain't happening. But you got a jam-packed show for you tonight, I tell you that.
12:03Claressa Shields:Yeah, absolutely.
12:07Shannon Sharpe:Undisputed, two-time gold medalist. She got like 17 belts, and she put on a fabulous performance last night in State Farm, went all the way down to middleweight, took her two belts, probably going to go back up. Anybody got belts in between that, she's going to wipe them out too. Marissa Shields joining us. But the big news of the day, Georgia Cowboys just got a new weapon. They got a pro bowler. Vaughn Miller is signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Vaughn went to DeSoto High School, matriculated at Texas A &M, is now headed to the Dallas Cowboys. Vaughn is coming off a nine-sack season in the NFC East where he played with the rival Washington Commanders.
12:46Shannon Sharpe:Now he's on the Dallas Cowboys. Vaughn posted a photo of himself. Dallas, let's make this one special. In the 40 jersey with the captaincy on. We'll see if he's the captain, but hey, something very, very special is trying to get Bruin in Dallas. Joe, you like his move? Hey, that's why I like to see Arcan Ocho. I like his energy. You hear me? Hey, hey, let's get to it. You hear me? We need somebody who can get out to that quarterback, man. You can say what you want to say. If you ain't got nobody who can get out to that quarterback and make him speed up and rush a little bit, hey, man, listen. So welcome, Vaughn.
13:20Shannon Sharpe:I'm sure this is a dream come true for him. As Cowboy Nation, man, we graciously, you know, accept you, brother. Hey, we got work to do, though, now. We got work to do. We got work to do. Yeah. Ocho, what you thinking?
13:36Claressa Shields:Listen, I'm happy for him. Anytime you get to play in your home state for one of the best franchises of all time, hell, maybe the best, you know, from a football standpoint, franchise of all time, right in your own backyard, family can come, they ain't got to fly nowhere. You know, go right down there in Arlington. It's always a dope thing. And then for Vaughn, for Vaughn having the success he had last year and having a nine-sack season, I think maybe a year or two, maybe three removed from ACL injury and still being able to be productive like that at his said position, where at one point he was top three at what he did.
14:10Claressa Shields:So I'm happy for Vaughn. I'm hoping he can bolster that defense and help them improve, especially when it comes to putting pressure on quarterbacks when they do play. That's going to be tremendous for them, tremendous for the Cowboys. Very, very good pickup. It's another thing, Uncle Joe. What Jerry also has to understand is Jerry understands that window of opportunity is closing too. You understand the window of opportunity is closed. So you want to get pickups like this with impact players Not just not just bodies for camp not just adding 53 to your roster But somebody that can make an immediate impact right away for that window opportunity to try and win one after A 25 or 30 year hiatus is right now.
14:49Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I think this is this is really this is No risk to the Cowboys you're signing on a minimum salary Anything that he gives you is a bonus. He can still rush the quarterback. And if the Cowboys offense is what we expect them to be, they should be ahead on a lot of these games. So it should take the run element out of it. A lot of these games. Now, obviously, there are going to be some games. There's going to be nip and tuck, and they're going to have to come back. And the defense is going to have to make plays to get them the ball back. But I think with Vaughn, I like Sam Williams. Before he tore his knee, he was a guy that could get pressure.
15:22Shannon Sharpe:Rajon Garrett seems to get off to these fast starts, and then he tapers down towards the end of the season. Ocho, we had him on, and in the first seven games, he had like eight, nine sacks. And then he didn't get another sack the rest of the season. So they got to figure out what's going on with him and why does he start so fast and taper off and why can't he sustain the level of play that he's having. Now, Quentin Williams just signed a big-time contract. They got Kenny Clark. They've got a lot of guys in there that they feel that can stuff the run, make a team one-dimensional, because if you don't turn off the water with the run, you're not going to be able to stop them because they'll play action past you.
15:54Shannon Sharpe:and use the entire playbook to defeat you. So I like this pickup for Vaughn. I'm happy for Vaughn. I know he really wanted to go back to the Broncos, but they're so deep at that position. I wish he could have finished his career with the Broncos, but unfortunately that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. But he's found a home very close to his home in Dallas with the Cowboys, and I'm excited for him because he's still bending. He's not what he once was in Super Bowl 50. He is not what he was when he got to help get the Rams to the Super Bowl, but he still can pressure the quarterbacks. Could I see a scenario where he has seven to eight sacks this year?
16:33Shannon Sharpe:Yep. Based on what they have offensively, I absolutely could see that. Yeah. Joe, I know you're extremely happy about that. Well, listen, man, anytime we can get some help, especially defensively, I'll show y 'all know, man, that's what we suffer the most. Offensively, we're pretty good. But defensively, getting out to that quarterback, causing hell, getting like ox they get some hail razors down there and listen that man back home he gonna show up and show out hey hey hey ocho yeah like like like my boy say mortiman we're back we back oh
17:03Claressa Shields:cho hold on joe hold on now hold on now hold on let's play some games first now on paper here he go dip it down a little hey listen joe i'm i'm talking good about you now offensively that's the Cowboys identity. That's the Cowboys identity offensively. Now maybe you can stop the run. You got Bob Miller. You got Quinny Williams. You got Kenny Clark, right? But again, they're going to test your secondary, Joe. I know you got Caleb down. I know you got Caleb down, but I'm saying they're going to test your secondary. That's always been your week. That's one of your weaknesses as well. Yeah, I agree.
17:32Claressa Shields:I agree. We're going to see what Bland we're going to get this year. What Deron Bland we're going to get. Can we get the one when Brother Diggs went out and he came in and had it seemed like every week he was taking an interception back to the house.
17:44Shannon Sharpe:Oh yeah, Deron Bland.

17:45Claressa Shields:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
17:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Hey, the boys have got some experience under their belt, man. Look, we back, baby. If our secondary can hold up on Ocho, they ain't got to be held worldwide or nothing like that. You know what I mean? Be pedestrian. Be pretty damn good. Like, we'll be all right, bro. Yeah. Yeah.
18:06Claressa Shields:Hey, Joe, I like y 'all. Joe, I ain't got no problem. You heard what he said, Ocho?
18:09Shannon Sharpe:What? Talk about if your secondary could be good. If a dog had a square butt, he poop blocks. Come on, man. But it's round, so we know what come out, and we know how it come out. Come on, man. I'm just saying, I'm just saying. Ocho and I, we don't want you to get too high, Joe, because we don't want to have 18, 17, 18 weeks. You being disappointed. Nah, nah. We don't like that. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, I don't care what happened, man. Listen, we ain't going for that this year, bro. I'm gonna keep it real with y 'all. Hey, champ, the Cowboys fans, look, I promise y 'all, man, Look if I had to go down there and talk to Dax CD lamb and pick my damn self.
18:42Shannon Sharpe:You hear me man We're gonna get something done this your partner. You must believe that. Okay Yeah, you know, hey, hey, hey, just sit back. Yeah, watch the show baby. It's your popcorn ready. Yes, sir Diamonds on my neck up being yeah, that's what Von Miller gonna be doing being yeah Yeah Hey getting to their quarterback. Hey, hey, hey. Y 'all done started? You could probably start the season about 1 and 3. 2 and 2 at the bench. Damn. Who? Who going to start 1 and 3? Oh, man, I don't know what you must get on there. You must have had some LaPorte before you got on here tonight. You had to. Ain't no way in here. Yeah, I already knew it. I already knew it. I already knew it.
19:37Claressa Shields:Yeah, you tripping. See, Joe, I'm singing positive praises for your cowboy, Joe. You know, offensively, Joe, ain't nobody finna touch y 'all. Y 'all got too many weapons. Too many weapons. Now, listen. Again, your interior. Your interior is solid. Yes. you know second level eh I'm not so sure second level eh I'm not so sure and the secondary is even more of a question mark even with you adding Caleb Downs I'm not saying nothing bad but I'm saying y 'all gonna be alright on paper it look good but on Sunday everything on paper don't matter what you gonna do between them lines right when that whistle blow

23:13Claressa Shields:hey hey joe hey that's crazy too joe because you got to think about it most of the time you're coming to some money and you reach a certain level especially if that person wasn't with you when you were shooting in the gym you hear me if that person wasn't there before you had that kind of money you got to understand those that you're able to get those that you're able to attain and have access to once you have money you know 90 of the reason that you're able to get them or have access to them is because of what you have and what you can't do hello a outro i think I think we lose the plot. This time I'm diving into a rabbit hole of peptides, organoids, blood boys, blue zones, and brain replacement to try to understand what this longevity obsession is all about and what it really means to live forever for all of us.
25:23I learned about some rad science. I can make a brain for you, and then we can test what draw is the best for your brain. As opposed to his brain. Here's some hard truths. I would expect Indians to age faster, but I did not expect it to be almost a four to five year acceleration. And get myself into a world of trouble. I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know. Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. 28:05Shannon Sharpe:Boy, she put on a performance last night. She got tired of hearing people talking about she ain't knocked nobody out. She ain't did nothing. Hey, so she said, you know what? I got something for all y 'all ass. I'm gonna drop down. She got two belts that I used to have. I want them back. And she went and she got them back. She put on a performance last night. Stopped Scott in the sixth round with a left hook and a fight through a big ass beach towel in there they wanted to make sure the referee saw that big white towel coming in man hold on i thought i seen something on the angle keep beating us uh-uh come here don't run now you shouldn't ask for this ass cutting but clarissa she'll join us now clarissa talk about the uh-oh oh she's gonna join us he's having some difficulties right now uh hey man i thought i seen i thought i seen a big towel a face towel and a baby wipe they threw in that land You saw this?
28:55Shannon Sharpe:They threw everything. I said, damn, what was that?
28:58Claressa Shields:Hey, Joe.
28:59Shannon Sharpe:I thought they were doing laundry.
29:01Claressa Shields:Hey, Joe, as long as it was white, they threw it in there.
29:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. As long as it was white. I mean, Joe, they don't normally have no big old white beach towels like that. Clarissa. That's okay, baby. Thanks for joining us. Talk about last night's performance. Clarissa, I've watched all your fights, especially like the last five or six fights. This might be, this is the best I've seen you. I mean, you sit down on punches. were you determined to get out of there what was what was the mindset last night why was last night different compared to your other fights i don't i don't think that it was different i mean i was fighting in atlanta in front of 18 000 but i really just been working on perfecting my craft and getting better like i'm not like i know i'm the best woman fighter but i want to be better at at my at my craft so i've been working on sitting on my punches landing my jab jab into the body um you know putting the torque on my shots and being able to see the shots that i want
29:57Claressa Shields:to land so that's just what i've been doing well listen i i have i have a question i have a question most of the time you think about it with you being the go to your sport being the best woman boxer of all time and you look at performances like last night how do you go back and watch a performance like you had last night we are dominated from the start of the fight mid-range at distance you were able to do what you want to do connect when you want to connect how do you watch something like that and tell yourself I want to get better I want to get better when you look as good as you do I look at the shots that I got hit with that I shouldn't have got hit with I look at when I misplaced my footing I mean even though I had a sprained um knee still like me I still should have not lost I shouldn't have lost my footing and um I mean Kate I mean Kate Scott was not a slouch she was strong she was fast um she was conditioned I just really pushed the pace now and I listened to my corner and they said don't lose the momentum like when you start getting partner stepped on the gas and i think round five i had her and then when the bell rang for round six i went back out there and jumped right back on her even though we had a minute rest so i just like don't like like don't lose it go out there and keep on riding and i and i broke her down to the
31:05Shannon Sharpe:body i hit the body a lot hey hey clarissa tell me something now it's been reported that you had to lose like 35 to 38 pounds in like 14 weeks or something like that am i right yeah i lost 38 pounds 14 weeks uh how did you feel how was your energy levels i mean you still look strong you look quick you look fast and losing that amount of weight how did you actually feel when you was in the ring i felt good and i'm trying to stay down this side so i have to lose that much weight no more you know what i'm saying but but i felt great you know well one one 160 i have reigned there and been undisputed two times there so it's not nothing new to me to be undisputed about uh about 160 but it's been three years and I've been at 175 so my body felt good I took the cam very serious I lost the weight the right way so I lost a lot of body fat that I had um and really toned up something that probably wasn't toned like this fight last fight I had a six pack this fight had an eight pack so you know it was it was uh one of those camps where I really just doing strength and conditioning four times a week eating salads and boiled eggs and you know the one percent turkey burger in.
32:15It's really like locking in and training six days a week for boxing. It was a busy camp, but I enjoyed it. I feel like I'm 18 now and I'm 31.
32:27Shannon Sharpe:Look, I see you outside. You got your face beat. You just fought yesterday. You look good, girl. Yeah, that's called defense. It had movement. You understand? And hold on. to answer Shannon's first question you gotta show out when you got Floyd Mayweather, Terrence Crawford, and Shakur in the stands. Come on now. Even YG9 was there. Usher was there. Rod Wave was there. Kevin Gates was there. Man, who was... Juju Watkins was there. Who else was there? Oh my god. Oh, of course, you know, Lotto and, man... YG. Who else was there? YFN Luchin. a YFN Luchi who was there anybody else Evan Gates 2 Chainz was there like man I said Evan Gates this is this was a star studded event Auntie Monique walked in in the back with me her and her husband I'm talking about man this was a star studded event we had Portia Williams from the real women of yeah listen it was crazy first of all I couldn't believe Ersha was there that blew my So it was like when you I feel like when God was like I think everything is God's timing So it's my fourth big knockout But I've hurt every girl I've been in there with I've dominated them But now You know with the opportunity I'm like man This is the one where I just wasn't taking a 10 rounder for an answer Like I've been saying all camp Like I'm knocking K Scott ass out I've been saying all camp You said something very interesting You said I've hurt other girls But I heard you say And when you was talking to Joe That your camp says like when you get her in trouble, step on her neck.
34:12Shannon Sharpe:Do you feel that sometimes you've gotten other women in trouble and you pull back being a little bit cautious? You weren't cautious because you say you got hit, and you know when you go on attack mode, when you're throwing punches, you're going to sometimes somebody's going to land some shots on you as well. But you was undeterred by that, Clarissa, last night. No, I mean, K-Scout was strong, but I just knew that I could get her. Like, I was breaking her down to the body. I was taking her strength. I was countering her. I had got up on a rope and she tried to beat me up And I started, you know, hitting her with the uppercuts And I mean I just was putting on a show I mean, after the fight, Floyd was like You wasn't looking like me And that's the biggest compliment that a girl like me can get Hey, that's what's up I mean, from watching the fight The way you was slipping them punches And then getting in there and bing bing Like, hey, that was on the money You did a hell of a job yesterday I was a huge fan So keep going, man, keep going I will thank you and hopefully next time y 'all can be in attendance.
35:12I think that we'll be the odds of our faces and everything. Next time I'm going to be out is January, December. Somewhere in there.
35:20Claressa Shields:Oh, I'm glad you just said it. I'm glad you just said that. Now, obviously, you'll be going back to 175 and not having to drain yourself to 160. No, I'm fighting again at 160. Just January, 160. She said she like 160. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Who are we talking about? Do we have an opponent in mind? Is there somebody that you actually want to fight? Listen, MVP has a girl named Tim, people who just got three belts, and they were saying that she was such a big threat to me and a girl only got five fights. Right. But then they're going to complain if I beat another girl that got five fights, but they were saying that just when she won these three belts that she can beat me in a fight.
35:56And I'm like, no, she can't. So it could possibly be her. It can be Mikaela Mayer and then Lauren Price, who is the name of the list. Olympic champion.
36:06Claressa Shields:I like that. I like that. One thing I have a question. With all the naysayers, with everything you've accomplished in boxing, the belts, you know, in different weight classes, when people say the people that you're fighting at times, sometimes they're not that good, or they're old, or they're washed, or there's really no competition. What do you say to the naysayers? That's just hater talk, because I'm 19-0, and I've beat girls. I've beat at least seven, eight girls who are on the pound-to-pound list. I have beat most of the girls that I fought against has been undefeated fighters, girls with multiple championships.
36:40The girls that I beat go on to beat other girls and knock them out when they say that they're not good. So it's like they just try to find anything to try to discredit me, but the truth is my skills, my power, my speed, my experience cannot be messed with. I am the best. It doesn't matter who they put me in there with. You know, and honestly, what champion can be champ in five different weight classes, and you telling me that nobody ever came close to beating me, all you never decisions, and y 'all like, oh, this, that, it's like, no. Them, hey, them other bitches got losses. Mm, yeah. I'm undefeated.
37:18Them girls be running their mouth and talking about that shit. You got your ass handed to you for it. Yeah.
37:24Shannon Sharpe:It's funny that you say that, Clarissa, because there's somebody been barking up your tree. Now she's in a little smaller weight class. Y 'all used to be cool. I don't know what happened. play with me. Shannon, you not about to play with me that, man. That girl is a bum. Hmm. Oh, Lord. She's a bum. She's a hater. And then, look, you know you beating these bitches ass when they all start teaming up. Them, man, them hoes is teaming up with a fucking rapper. Her, Amanda, trying to fucking be down. Like, y 'all can't beat me one-on-one, so y 'all gotta go team up and make it seem like y 'all doing something.
37:58Y 'all are some losers. Go, go and knock bitches out. Go and win. go and sell out of the arena at least you can't sell she can't sell shoe out of a shoe box damn
38:10Shannon Sharpe:damn but i think so but carissa the thing is with you is that there they're not very many fighters male or female that when you go back and look at your amateur background you got two gold medals two olympic on my head all these amateur championships and you got all these belts i mean you go you started off at this weight you moved up wiped it out now you come back down Wiping it out. So at what point what do you say? You know what I got pretty soon You gonna have all the damn belts and it gonna be nobody for you to fight Now there's always for my to fight because there's always somebody new There's always somebody who's watching you who's studying you You know when you the best is always a targeting impact is always a girl who's smaller coming up or a girl that's bigger coming down So I'll be watching all of them So you'll fight anybody even if they don't have a bill if they talk they keep talking they keep running their miles you say okay i'll get in the ring with you even if you don't have you're not just a belt you're like i take what i take all challenges no you gotta make sense though it don't make sense like yeah that's my that's what i'm saying if you wipe everybody out clarissa if you take all the belts you got about 20 belts now yeah but a lot of those belts now like when i go to i have to decide within one or two weeks do i want to state understated do I want to stay a heavyweight world champion or do I want to stay at middleweight so I have to decide that within two weeks and I'm quite sure that all my team want me to go back to 75 but I got business at 160 still okay you can go back and get that 75 anytime you want it so let me go ahead and handle this down here I'll come back up and get this absolutely
39:50Claressa Shields:I like it go ahead Ocho Hey, you know, I want to be nosy, right? We've talked about your accomplishments. We know how great you are. I'm excited, December, January, whenever it's going to be that you do fight again. You were a part of the camp and a general around Bud, that atmosphere, and knowing the ins and outs and what's going on. Do you think Bud comes out of retirement at some point? Say it again? Do you think Bud comes out of retirement at some point? Oh, no. No. Bud has always been like a man of his words. So I think that if he retired, I don't think he's going to play with nobody. But do I think that we will see Bud take the Floyd route, do some exhibitions?
40:30I think you may see him do fun stuff like that. But I don't think you're going to see him back fighting for belts and stuff like that. No. You know what I'm saying?
40:38Shannon Sharpe:Help me understand this, Clarissa. Normally when a fighter goes down in weight, they lose some power. You lost no power. It almost seemed like you had more power at 60 than you have at 75. How were you able to maintain that level of power, that punching power, when you dropped 30-plus pounds? Strength and conditioning, continuing my boxing workouts, continuing my running, and honestly, it's the diet. So like I said, I wasn't just losing weight. I was like shedding fat and building muscles here and there. And, man, like I said, I had an APEC, And I haven't had an APEC since I was at 154, you know, back in 2021 when it was COVID.
41:18So, to have an APEC, like, I mean, I really worked for it. But I really just, like, I locked in for real. Like, I had a very, very strict diet, a gallon of water a day, no fried chicken, no rice, no mac and cheese, like, none of that good stuff. I was on a very strict diet. And I mean, I just really stepped up for this opportunity because it's like these little bitches getting out of hand. Like they be talking too much. They be like, bro, like, so, okay. Only thing a girl can say about me is like, oh, yeah, she got all these belts and she undefeated, but she ain't got knockouts. But I can get knockouts just like them.
42:00Like I punch better than them. I'm sharper than them. I'm faster than them. And these girls are way smaller. And I'm still throwing more punches than them when I'm in my fight. So it's like for me, I'm like, you know what? Fighting in Atlanta, a new territory where it's black excellence and it's black culture. I'm like, I have to really go out here and I want to make a statement. So I put myself through the ringer and I train very hard.
42:27Claressa Shields:Right. I have one more question too. I see it all the time. Obviously on Twitter, she's been trying to get your attention for a while. Cyborg, is there any chance that we see a fight with you and Cyborg? I've seen her constantly call you out all the time Does it make sense? Is that something that even makes sense? That lady is the biggest Cloud chaser I've ever experienced In my life She can pay me 2 million dollars But can't even pay her damn self 2 million dollars I don't understand these girls First of all Won't make more than 2 million But she ain't never even paid herself 2 million How you gonna pay me 2 million for a fight?
43:04And Chris Cyborg cannot box
43:06Shannon Sharpe:hey that 160 got you acting a little different too girl I see it I'm with it though keep going Clarissa what's the lady that she talking about she wanted to fight you she be commentating fights sometimes huh there's a lady that be commentating I saw her when you fighting French on said she wanted to fight me yeah maybe that was Michaela Mayer that's who it is yes Yes What about her? You got something for her too? Yeah I told her if Lauren Price isn't available January, December I'd love to fight Mikayla I'd tap that ass too Hey can we come to the fight? Yeah come Is this fight Where is this fight going to be?
43:54Shannon Sharpe:It's going to be in Atlanta? It's going to be in Detroit hometown? Man now we got a toss up We did so good in Atlanta You know we took yourselves And then we did so great in Detroit I mean, after the fight, my dang promoter said we're going to the Lions Stadium where it's 40 ,000 in Detroit. I was like, what? So I'm like, it's very, it's not, what is it? It's very shocking to me, but it's like, dang, I'm really out here selling tickets, putting butts to seats. The stars are coming out. And it's really like a toss-up. Do we go back to Atlanta or do we go back to Detroit and do Lions Stadium with 40 ,000?
44:31Shannon Sharpe:That's dope. I don't know. I don't know. I mean, I know Detroit's your hometown, but the way they showed up and showed up for you last night, Clarissa, Atlanta might be your new adopted home. Well, I've been living here for two years. Yeah. The only thing about it, hey, they're going to support their own now. They have adopted you. Hey, you their own now. They're going to support you. They're going to show up and show out. Yeah, absolutely.
44:57It's just like the hospitality, the honor. Like, I wore the Atlanta Dream colors, and, I mean, they were really excited. And, I mean, all I heard fight night was whoop that trick every round.
45:15Shannon Sharpe:That's dope. That's dope. Every round. Clarissa, now you did say, now, hold on. You got to get this boxing stuff out of the way because you said you wanted to be with child within the next six to eight months. Is that still on the horizon, or are you going to postpone that to maybe 28? No, because I had postponed this year because I signed my$8 million deal with winning records. So me and Pap compromised, and I said, okay, let me just whip two or three girls, and then we can have our baby together. And he said, okay. Hey, hey, hey, tell Papoose he got to chill now. He got that Papoose. We trying to get a couple more fights, man.
45:54Shannon Sharpe:Come on now. Chill. You got to chill, my boy. I think that's more Larissa than Pap I think you're like look I compromise I done got four girls out the way let me go and drop this baby and I get about five more and I can shut it down I think that that was my reason for coming down to 162 like I'd rather start my pregnant journey at being very very small instead of having to be you know 180 and 190 and then get to like 230. Instead, I can be 160 and get to 190 and don't have to touch 200 because me being 20 pounds, it's just not something I want to ever experience. What's a walk-around weight for you, Carissa?
46:38Shannon Sharpe:75, 78, 80? It really depends. So when I was fighting at 75, I had got big as 190. And then when I just kind of like don't train and I don't know what's next, I've been as big as 198. But usually a comfortable weight is 185. yeah okay well fight at 175 in a comfortable weight at 185 that means you only got dropped 10 pounds that you don't have to tax yourself you don't have to beat your body into the ground I mean to come down 38 pounds that's asking an awful lot and for you to do it in the fashion in which you did it and the way you look last night anything is probably you come down 40 you come down 45 if you have to but you look Carissa you look phenomenal last night thank you so much the way the way you put that thing on k scott the way you sat down on punches the way you a follow-up punches jab to the body left hook right i mean you gave you a i was like what damn is there anything left in the refrigerator you threw everything in the refrigerator she said i knew she wasn't gonna last all 10 because i i just was like i'm just gonna keep stepping on the gas in it and i think it was one round i felt like she was getting like some confidence yeah i said let me go ahead and wrap this shit on up i'm trying to go to the club but you know what clarissa i think the thing is that really helped is that she came she like she said she was coming to fight yeah you like you really go you really gonna fight me you not gonna hide you not gonna peekaboo you really gonna try to yeah hold on that's my hometown this is my new hometown now if you think i'm about to let you sit in front of me and we gonna sit pocket to pocket Well, listen, when I was in camp, I was hurting all the girls I was sporing.
48:24So I knew that once it got to the fight, I'm like, yo, I know I'm cracking. I know I'm laying it. I've been working so hard on turning my punches over, throwing my punches straighter, landing the body shots, seeing openings, countering. All this stuff that I do naturally good, but I've been working on making it better. And I just was like, man, I was just so sharp last night. And, man, I just knew I was going to get it done.
48:53Shannon Sharpe:When you caught her with the left, did you know that was the beginning of the end when you caught her with that left? I think before then I caught her with the right. And I just kept seeing. I don't know if y 'all got noticed, but first round, she went to the corner and had a big-ass nut on her head. Yeah, I seen her. She had a couple of them up there. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, we called Clarissa, we called them may not. They may go down. They may not. They may not. No, so after I called her with that freaking, freaking short gonna say something. Keep aiming for the knot.
49:28So I was really like them, but that's when I knew I'm like, yo, if I'm marking her up like this first round, it was my goal to put another marker on the other side of her face and put it on her jaw and put it on her lip. Like, I'm like, I'm not going to bust her up.
49:41Shannon Sharpe:Not him. Hey, hey. Hey, you stayed on that phone, and I seen you had that dynamite in that right hand, and the way you was counting, every time she was throwing, you was slipping, you was throwing that right. You got some dynamite in that right hand, girl. I think I got dynamite up in both hands because it was the hook that put her down. Yes. But my right hand is just as dangerous, especially when I throw it straight. Ooh. Yeah. This episode sponsored by Marathon Sports. Runners know the feeling. 54:23Shannon Sharpe:You was on your grind last night. Clarissa, you was in your bag last night. That was the Olympic Clarissa Shields. That had everything going. I barely told everybody. I'm like, yo, this training camp, I felt like I was getting ready for the freaking Olympics. I felt like I was 18, 17 again. I just felt like, man, I don't think people understand. When you know you are number one in the world at what you do. now i'm talking about back when i was 17 before i wanted to go metal it was like i knew i was number one i just had to go out there and do it yeah right it's a different type of attitude that you carry when you walk around so i carry that now and it's like yo i know that everybody want me to have a close fight and they want a girl to drop me or they want to find somebody bigger or whatever they think to challenge me yeah i'm sorry it's just not gonna happen because i'm always getting better I'm always getting stronger and faster and I know how to win that's it big skills gonna always be little skills you you you you you a larger woman that's skill and so they might have somebody that's skill but at 45 at 50 no they can't they can't see you I'm a boxer brawler so I can box and
55:39Claressa Shields:I can brawl hey it depends on what they want if you want a box I got there and box with you, but if the boxing ain't working, listen, Coach said I'd rather go down. He said it's best to go down swinging than just to go down. So I'm one of them. If we gotta go to war and we gotta get bloody in here and we gotta break some bones, I'm all down for it as long as I get the W. And Pat think I'm crazy for that, but I be telling him, I ain't never bound down to no dude or to no damn girl when I'm inside the ring fighting. We can do this shit to the death. I'm telling you, I'm gonna win.
56:14Shannon Sharpe:I like it. I like it. After all this, after all you've accomplished, you've got gold medals, you've got 20, 25 belts. What's left, Clarissa? In the boxing sphere, obviously you want to start a family. We get that. We get that. But in the boxing sphere, what is left for Clarissa Shields? I just want to fight. I just want to fight so all the fighters out of me right now. Like right now, anybody can get it. You know? I just love to fight right now. Like I think that's my problem. It's like it's not that boxing is like a job. It's actually fun to me. I enjoy training. I enjoy having my team with me.
56:49I enjoy, you know, one day. I enjoy going to the gym at the beginning of camp and can barely get 10 rounds out the way. And then when I'm ending camp, I'm hitting the bag 15 rounds. And then I'm doing pads 10 rounds. And then I'm going outside to run. And I'm like, yo, when I first started camp, I couldn't do none of this.
57:10Shannon Sharpe:I remember we sat down, Clarissa. boxing is your therapy because you say you were an angry child. You just wanted to fight. So you say, you know what? This is my escape. I got something. I go to therapy. I go to therapy every day. I'm one of these people. Some people go to therapy once a week. Or they go once every other week. They go once a month. I go to therapy every day. This is your therapy. No, it is. Especially like when I'm in camp, I feel like I'm closer to God. I can think clearer. I'm eating better. I'm less bloated. And honestly, I love when I have fight camp because I don't take no bullshit.
57:42Like, nobody can bother me. Anybody get in my way of training or trying to mess with me mentally, I just cut it off. And usually, sometimes in my life, I have a hard time doing that when I'm not in camp. But when I'm in camp, boxing comes first. It's like God, boxing, everything else.
57:59Shannon Sharpe:Right. Wow. Well, Clarissa, congratulations on the fight last night. You were sensational. We look forward to having you back on again. The next fight, we definitely go to the Nat Crap crew. We definitely go to try to get there and be in attendance. Hey, Bo, give me a second. We might be broadcasting the fight live, too, at night, Kat. There we go. There we go. Going live.
58:22Claressa Shields:Oh, yeah.
58:22Shannon Sharpe:Now you're talking. That's what's up. That's what's up. And listen, you know, I want y 'all to start studying these girls' boxers, man, so they can find out more about them. But I am telling you, you're not going to find no girl that can beat me. I want y 'all to go all the way from the 130s to the 175s. Look at these girls. Like, watch their film and all that good stuff. and you're going to see these hoes ain't landing on the plane. Nobody know 130 Clarissa, because we know you're not going down there. We'll watch them when they start. No, I'm just saying, like, I'm saying, look at them. Look at them skill-wise.
58:51All that talking, anybody can do that. Look at the actual fights.
58:56Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, action. Yeah, that's like my Pomeranians. They be barking at my dog, my 180-pound dog, but he don't even pay them no attention because he know they can't do nothing. Exactly, so that's what I be doing. I just fight the girls my weight class and beat them down. And I think the lowest I'm going to go is 160 because I ain't going back down to 54. Let me ask you a question. What is Ms. Baumgartner? She's 45? That girl is 130. Oh, hell no. Why is she talking about you? Whole way above 30 trying to be a bully. Lord, that person's terrific. You done called a lady everything but a lady. Run your mouth on all platforms.
59:36The rest of the show.
59:41Shannon Sharpe:Jesus Lord have mercy Clarissa thank you for joining us Congratulations on a great victory last night Get some rest We'll see you in December and January At the club I ain't getting no motherfucking rest I'm at the club Damn hold up At the club It's an all white party I'm at the club I'm sitting outside right now Y 'all still in the A Yeah I'm going to go party right now Pap, what up? Hey, what y 'all at? Pap, what up? Hey, Pap, what up? We have the club. We have the club. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. You made this woman. She just whipped ass last night, said, I'm going to party. I don't need no nail rinse.
1:00:17Listen, I haven't done nothing in 14 weeks. And then I haven't had, well, I can say that now. We hadn't had sex in six weeks.
1:00:26Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man. So we finally got to go down. Oh, y 'all had to shake the cover last night, huh? Hey, hey, hey, tell Papp, hey, hey, hey, tell Papp, it don't make him no bad brother. Now, hey, Papp, do your thing, boy. Listen, an undisciplined man is not a good man. And he's so disciplined with me. When I was in camp, he was sneaking and eating his little chocolate cake in the kitchen while I was in the room.
1:00:55Shannon Sharpe:Well, congratulations. Enjoy the night. Thank you. After 14 weeks of denying yourself, go have some fun. Amen. Thank you. Appreciate y 'all. Salute. Thank you, man. Have a good one, Clarissa. Clarissa Shields, man. Ooh. Hey. Lord, have mercy. I mean, she done called the ladies everything but that night. I'm like, Lord, have mercy. She done called the bees. She done called the bees. I say, Lord. Hey, man, let me tell you. She done called them garden tools. I'm like, Jesus Christ, man. Hey, look. Y 'all know she done found a new home. because y 'all know how they treat them in Atlanta, boy. They don't play out here, man.
1:01:30Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey, they gonna support you, boy. Especially when you come put on the show like she did last night. Boy, what y 'all talking about? That boy, Pat Pooh, finna clown, ain't it, man? We got a very special guest joining us later in the show at 8.50 p.m. Pacific time. Vaughn Miller is going to join the show.
1:01:49Claressa Shields:Hey, hey, let's go, Vaughn. Let's go, Vaughn.
1:01:52Shannon Sharpe:Earlier this offseason, Dak dubbed the Dallas unit, the greatest offense there is. Well, now C.D. Lamb believes that 2026, he and George Pickens can be the best ever. That's a very, very high bar because you got Randy Moss and Chris Carter. You got Laughness, Jell and Anquan Bolden. You got Isaac Bruce and Torrey Holt. You got Mark Super Duper and Mark Clayton. You got John Stallworth, Len Swan, Fred Belitnikoff and Cliff Branch. And then when you put anybody with Jerry Rice, Jerry Rice and T.O. Do they realize that Jerry Rice and T.O. was on the same team, Ocho?
1:02:23Claressa Shields:Yeah, yeah, absolutely, absolutely. but listen I like that he said that Uncle Joe I like that he said that you're supposed to feel that way regardless of the history of the best duos that played in the NFL you're supposed to feel y 'all two are going to be the best now I don't think they'll be able to play long enough together as a duo to be able to reach the status of some of the ones that you just named but this season coming up boy they got a good chance yeah Joe you heard me they got a good chance to make their mark as one of the best duos to actually play together they do have that I'm rocking with what CD said And honestly, right now, they're the second best duo in the league right now.
1:02:58Claressa Shields:They've only been together one year. Behind who? What you mean behind who, bro? Bro, you're Uno Uno Cinco down there in Cincinnati. Get the hell out of here, man. Man, get out of here, bro. Hey, don't, Joe, come on now.
1:03:11Shannon Sharpe:Nah, don't piss me off tonight, Ocho.
1:03:14Claressa Shields:Hey, Joe, no, don't you piss me off being delusional now. Nah, I ain't delusional. I'm just keeping it 100. Your 100 is 99. Nah, it's 100. I've been picking the better than chasing T Higgins, man. What did you talk about?
1:03:26Shannon Sharpe:We didn't mention Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Yeah, yeah. All right, well, listen, listen. Hey, guess what, fellas? We got work to do. We ain't worried about that. We don't mind no little work, man. If that's what y 'all are talking about, we're going to put some work in, partner. We ain't worried about that part. Well, we can put Jerry with anybody. Anybody that played opposite of Jerry Rice is a part of the greatest duo ever, whether it's JT John Taylor, whether it's Tim Brown, Yeah, really Tio anybody able to cross from here is part of the greatest deal ever because of Jim because of how great Jay was I'm anxious to see this offense When you put statements out like this, oh, Joe, you already know like you did when you challenge DBs You don't go out there and back it up.
1:04:10Claressa Shields:Oh, yeah, that's the easy part That's easy part because they've been doing it all their career hell They were doing it in high school. They were doing it in college and they've been doing it They haven't been voicing out loud, which I wish more receivers would do even though it adds a little pressure on you but it's entertainment, it's excitement and it forced you to have to play at a high level week in and week out. Call them boys out. Tell the world. Tell the NFL. Put defenses on notice. Listen, we the best duo in the NFL. That's how I feel. I'm not really worried about the history. I respect those that came before me, right?
1:04:37Claressa Shields:But I feel me and George Piggins are the best duo. I like it. I live for that. I live for that.
1:04:43Shannon Sharpe:Hey, what is pressure? You talking about they put pressure? What is pressure? What is that, Padua? It ain't nothing. It ain't nothing. Yeah, that's what I'm trying to tell you. You talking about pressure? There ain't no pressure? I like it. We're going to come out and do what I want to. I like the energy that's coming out of Dallas. Look, we done took care of big Quinny Williams, got Von Miller to get in there. Hey, listen, man, once our defense lock in, okay, Ojo, boy, y 'all ain't going to be able to say foot nor ball when I come on here. You hear me?
1:05:07Claressa Shields:You hear me? Hey, Joe, listen, you doing a whole lot of talking, right? You doing a whole lot of talking, and ain't going to be in the middle of that field, in between them lines when that ball snap.
1:05:17Shannon Sharpe:But I'm going to be talking the most ish. for the Cowboys. You best believe that, partner. Yeah, y 'all done met y 'all mess tonight. You hear me? Yeah, this football thing, y 'all done met y 'all mess. You an uncle. I'm on y 'all this year, boy, in football, boy. I'm telling you right there. It's not gonna happen.
1:05:31Claressa Shields:It's not gonna happen. You hear me? Stay with me real quick. I know you're happy. I know you're happy y 'all got Vaughn. You hear me? I know you're happy y 'all got Caleb Downs. You hear me? I know you're happy because the beginning of the season, right? And obviously, every season, it's always like this. Everybody's on a high. Everybody's on a high at the beginning like a relationship in the beginning the first six months oh my god it's beautiful but when it matters most what happens huh you come down you come down to reality and that's been that's been the main thing and the main problem the main issue for so long before the season starts it's always oh my god it's so beautiful you're on that high like when you first meet somebody but then reality sets in in the postseason huh you six months in you got you got comfortable you could say a sentence and and and and she could finish it you see i'm saying hey oh You picking up what I'm putting down?
1:06:17Claressa Shields:I want you to be - Hey, Joe. I want you to be realistic, huh? I'm being realistic, bro. You two hiding yourself right now, and if you this high, that means when you come crashing down, boy, it's going to be bad, boy. Man, I ain't studying all that.
1:06:31Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey, hey, listen. I ain't studying all that, bro. We going to back everything we talking about. We going to back it up when season starts. You hear me? How you going to back it up? You ain't on the field, Joe. What you mean? I'm connected, homie. I am a cowboy. What you mean? I'm locked in. What are you talking about? huh are you lucky we ain't got y 'all on the uh schedule this year boy hey joe hey i can ask you
1:06:50Claressa Shields:something last time y 'all played us what happened joe man you talking about i see that you go talk
1:06:53Shannon Sharpe:about old stuff again that don't mean it don't matter we're in 2026 you talking about something happened way back yesterday you hear me you need to lock in we're in 2026 homie hey look 2026 the
1:07:03Claressa Shields:hype train been the same the past 30 years every every see there you go stay there you go stay talking about old stuff again i'm being honest with you the hype train for the star in dallas has been the same every off every off season leading into the season in the regular season oh it's always beautiful oh it's always awesome but when it matters most what's always happened joe
1:07:22Shannon Sharpe:20 26 can we like when it matters most what's always happened joe it man stands talking about old stuff old stuff we can't even control it's gone it's history i mean
1:07:30Claressa Shields:listen that's history what is history when we talk about history right what is history history is old stuff ain't it it's always old news they is it's all with leave it alone then we move forward hey joe Can I tell you something, Joe? What you want to tell me? I'm a positive dude, right? OK. I wish the Cowboys nothing but the best.
1:07:47Shannon Sharpe:OK, we appreciate that. We appreciate that.
1:07:58Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I don't know what y 'all think. Man, that's Joe. Y 'all too bad. I can just imagine what it's going to be like doing football season. Hey, can I say something real quick? Listen to me.
1:08:10Claressa Shields:He talking a whole lot of trash for somebody that ain't going to take one snap.
1:08:15Shannon Sharpe:But we going to back it up. I bet you we back it up. I bet you we back it up.
1:08:20Claressa Shields:Everything he say, they got to go out there and back it up. And if they don't, every week we come on here, boy, I'm going to let you have it, boy.
1:08:27Shannon Sharpe:Boy, you don't think them boys listen to this? You don't think they listen to us? You don't think they see what's going on? You don't think they see they got somebody who got their back, partner? Boy, don't boy for go out there and show us.
1:08:37Claressa Shields:Stop playing with us, man. Yo, listen, listen, listen. All them boys watch the show. They might not watch it live, but everybody see the clip, Joe. Y 'all already know it. Everybody see the clip, Joe. So I'm just telling you, you doing a whole lot of talking about somebody that ain't going to take one snap, offensively or defensively. So you going to have them boys in trouble.
1:08:53Shannon Sharpe:And that's your problem. You worry about the wrong thing, partner. You worry about the wrong thing. You worry about the wrong thing, Ojo. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Okay.
