In short
Dallas Cowboys roster moves and plans (waiving QB Joe Milton III for Sam Howell; Broderick Jones’s role at right tackle; Terrence Steele’s competition); plus Bengals defensive urgency and offseason expectations after Jonathan Allen joins.
Guests (backgrounds)
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson (former NFL WR; Bengals Ring of Fame; co-host). Joe Johnson (former NBA player; co-host). Jonathan Allen (Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle; previously with Washington Commanders; veteran DT). Also referenced: South Carolina State coach “tennis Barry” (joining later).
Key claims
- Cowboys waived Joe Milton III despite a strong preseason (29/43, 392 yards, 4 TD) to keep Sam Howell as backup; hosts argue it’s a “roll the dice” plan hoping no one claims Milton so he can return to the practice squad.
- Cowboys plan for Broderick Jones: he’ll play right side; Terrence Steele is currently 1-8 at right tackle, so Jones must prove himself quickly to start.
- Bengals: urgency is driven by the “window” for winning; defense must improve because offense can score 30–35 but the defense has been the Achilles heel.
- Jonathan Allen says defensive success starts up front; he expects one-on-one pressure and support for Dexter Lawrence–style matchups (specifically referencing how teams must double elite DTs).
Notable examples
- Comparisons to past QB moves (e.g., Belichick trading Jimmy Garoppolo; other “doing a solid” roster decisions).
- Bengals rookie Landon Robinson: undersized but led preseason in tackles for loss and had four sacks.

I don't know why he joined it after what he did with my team. I don't even know if I really want to talk to that man after that.
8:10Shannon Sharpe:That's later in the show, guys. But hey, the shocking news of the day, the Dallas Cowboys have waged Joe Milton to make room for Amari DiBecardo, who claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs. Sam Howell will be the Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback to Dak Prescott. Joe Milton had an outstanding preseason, guys, 29-43, 392, four touchdowns. Sam Howell wasn't bad, but he was not as great as Joe Milton. Sam Howell was 27-40, 3-14, three touchdowns and one interception. A few years back, there were some that was thinking that Joe Milton could have pushed Drake May a little harder. A lot of people call it, hey, maybe he should start.
8:52Shannon Sharpe:The rookie is struggling. You got a big-armed quarterback that can throw the ball, that can cut through the wind, the elements of New England. But for whatever reason, the Dallas Cowboys, I know what they're trying to do. They're trying to be slick. Because if you claim him off waivers, you got to sign him to your active roster. They're counting on no one signing him to their active rosters. He fall through waivers. We sign him back, put him back on our practice squad. You see how they hear that?
9:13Chad Johnson:Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. So listen, they waive him. Y 'all think nobody will claim him, bro? You got to put him on your active roster? Yeah, he's good enough to go on your active roster. Okay, Ocho.
9:26Shannon Sharpe:But see, the thing is, the Cowboys said, nah, we going to roll the dice. They're rolling the dice, Joe. I'm telling you what they're doing. They're rolling the dice. they're taking their chances that no one's going to sign him to their active roster and they'll be able to claim him back and get him on the practice squad. That's what they're thinking. I'm not saying that that plan is foolproof, foolproof, that something can't happen if somebody does sign him to their active roster. I'm just telling you how very much. So I'm tripping to be over here thinking like,
9:56Chad Johnson:okay, cool. Joe Mildon balled out in the preseason, probably had the best passing completion percentage in the preseason. So listen, I'm thinking, okay, Dallas looking like hell. This man really ain't no number two. He ain't no damn backup quarterback. That's what I'm thinking. So they going to do him a favor and go on and waive him so he can sign another contract with somebody else. I'm tripping to be thinking like that?
10:20Joe Johnson:Yeah, a little bit. A little bit, Joe. Because listen, it comes down to more than just having a big arm. There are other intangibles, other things that come into place when it comes to being a starting quarterback. and obviously Dallas didn't see the value in him, obviously, for the one to name Sam Howe as a backup instead of Joe Milton as a backup, there's something that we can't see, that we don't know about, that they can. Because if you're as good as you look in the preseason, there's no reason why you would be the number two quarterback. There's no reason why. Hey, listen. There's more to the story outside of what we've been able to see on film in the preseason.
10:55Chad Johnson:Bro, it's got to be more. I mean, Ocho, he got every physical tool you can ask for. I mean, you can't teach that arm. You can't teach that size. You can't teach that athleticism, bro. At some point, somebody going to give that man an opportunity to be a number one.
11:12Shannon Sharpe:I would hope that, but I'm just telling you what Dallas is thinking and what their game plan is in this situation. Maybe they save a few dollars with Joe Milton as opposed to Sam Howell. I'm not really sure, but I feel very comfortable in saying I believe they released him. Obviously, they wanted this running back. They found all of this running back. They were able to claim him off waivers. But I believe they released him thinking and feeling pretty confident no one was going to sign him to the active roster. And not being signed to the active roster, he falls back to us and we sign him to the practice squad.
11:44Shannon Sharpe:I believe that's what they – and Lord, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I feel I'm right in this situation because I've seen it happen before. You know, you release a player hoping, like you're probably 85%, 90 % sure someone's not going to sign that player and put him on their active roster because you can't sign him and put him on the practice squad you have to sign him to your roster the funny thing about it
12:04Joe Johnson:joe is he's played so well in the preseason i'm willing to bet maybe another chance because he played so well in the other quarterback rooms that might have some insurity you know the number one is always the number one the number one's going to be the star they might feel he can come in and maybe beat the number two out but this late with the season starting what a week we got a week and a half, they're taking a chance and they're betting that no one's going to pick him up.
12:28Chad Johnson:Wow. Hey, so, so hell it don't pay to the show out in the preseason. That man balled out in the preseason, bro. You mean to tell me this what you got to deal with?
12:39Joe Johnson:And there's another, there's another factor too that can, that can, that can come into play. You can correct me if I'm wrong. There was the situation in New England where Garoppolo was a quarterback and Garoppolo was playing well. Yes. And you know what? I don't want that over my shoulders. Joe, stay with me now. I don't want that over my shoulders. Just in case. So they got him up out of there. I'm not saying this is a situation like that, but with the way he did play, I don't really want him as a number two. In case things aren't going well, you know what everybody's going to be saying. You know what happens?
13:12Joe Johnson:Now that's another factor that's happened in the past. And listen, to get rid of that pressure, we're going to do this. is sam is sam howe gonna push that prospect push that back pruscott as no no pressure there i ain't got to look over my shoulder he ain't starting over me okay guys sam howell signed a one-year
13:35Shannon Sharpe:contract two and a half million dollars he got 500 to sign two million is fully guaranteed joe milton's contract joe milton's contract was a million dollars that was a million dollars a year
13:47Chad Johnson:but I think it was more than that for like
13:50Shannon Sharpe:He signed a four year, four million, little four million contract with New England so the two million that was guaranteed but I just think when I'm looking at it I just, I think this is the play that Dallas is, they're rolling the dice in this situation, hoping they don't roll snake eyes or box cars but I think this is what they're going to do because I thought Joe Miller was phenomenal. You watch and you go back and look at his tape in the preseason and he's played He's played well when given an opportunity in the regular season. Rifle for an arm, not that you really need that in Cowboy Stadium because you're in a domed environment.
14:26Shannon Sharpe:But in New England, the way his balls can cut through the wind, the elements, you need a big-armed quarterback, especially when you play outside and you're in the Northeast, so you're in a place where inclement weather could be a factor. Weather can be a factor in New England, Cincinnati and Chicago and Pittsburgh and Baltimore. but I think that's the play that Dallas is in right now because ain't no way based on what you saw in the preseason.
14:53Chad Johnson:It don't make sense.
14:54Shannon Sharpe:It don't make sense. It doesn't. Ain't no way you saw what you saw in the preseason and thought Sam Howell played better than Joe Milton III did in the preseason. Now I could be wrong Dallas fans. Y 'all jump in the chat and let us know what you think
15:05Chad Johnson:but it's hard to see
15:07Shannon Sharpe:watching that man deal the way he dealt.
15:10Chad Johnson:Nah. You ain't wrong. Hey listen because I thought I was tripping. but I said, man, somebody's scamming my page or something. You know what I mean? I was like, they tripping. Ain't no way them folks done released a wave Joe Milton. Hey, listen, I still can't put it together, bro. I thought they were doing the man a solid. You know what I mean?
15:30Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Nah. Guys that good, they don't do them. Every once in a while, you might find a situation. Buddy Ryan did Chris Carter a solid while releasing him because he was getting high on drugs. even though CeCe had like 13, 14 touchdowns, did your buddy cut him? He could have got to have 13, 14 touchdowns. He cut him. But he knew if he kept him, he wasn't going to get clean. So he had to make him hit bottom. CeCe been sober ever since, and we know he's in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So with that being said, every once in a while you'll find a situation where it's like, you know what, son, I'm going to do you.
16:09Shannon Sharpe:Coach Belichick did Jimmy G a solid. he traded him to Kyle Shanahan because he thought so much of Mike Shanahan who's Kyle's father he traded him for a second round pick when he probably could have got a first round pick considering how well he had played that's doing somebody a solid a real solid because you put him in a situation where you know he can succeed you cut a guy the team with the worst record gets first dibs at him man I ain't trying to go there
16:36Joe Johnson:I don't know that's crazy hey but that's the business It's a dirty business. It's a funny thing where they kind of make it a bad thing, you know, to play well, especially based on the situation.
16:52Joe Johnson:That's the only thing I can think of. Falcons, Browns, who else?
17:00Chad Johnson:Jets.
Read the full transcript
17:03Shannon Sharpe:Jets. Are we sure? he'd be the third or fourth best quarterback on those teams?
17:13Chad Johnson:No, we're not. The Falcons?
17:15Shannon Sharpe:The Browns?
17:16Chad Johnson:No, we're not. We're not sure. Mm-mm. Hey.
17:22Shannon Sharpe:Can you imagine him with his arms with those weapons in Atlanta?
17:26Chad Johnson:And he got that hit-me-under-the-hood too, Ocho. Huh? You don't know that. Don't act like that boy ain't got that hit-me-under-the-hood now. You know that boy get on up out of that now. Hey, he got some tools with him. Okay, Ocho, I just – I'm thinking like, damn, you mean Timmy, nobody going to claim this man and they going to end up letting him go back to Dallas on a practice? That don't even make sense to me, bro.
17:48Shannon Sharpe:It doesn't.
17:52Shannon Sharpe:Hell, I'm not so sure he ain't better than what the Vikings tried out there. Okay, we know Kyler's good, but can Kyler stay – my thing is, Ocho, can he stay healthy? That too, but you have to understand Kyler. but can you imagine Joe Milton throwing that thing
18:05Joe Johnson:because you know a Jetta you got to remember we have footage on a healthy Kyler Murray and what he can do we don't have much footage on Joe Milton what you mean
18:17Shannon Sharpe:I got just as much footage on him being injured than you got on him being healthy I bet you I do
18:22Joe Johnson:you don't understand what I'm saying I understand what you're saying you know little flashes here and there I'm talking about a full body of work we have a full body of work on Kyler Murray That's why he's the starting quarterback. That's why they went and got him. And then you think about – what's the other situations you talked about, huh?
18:40Shannon Sharpe:Atlanta. Oh, okay.
18:41Joe Johnson:Now, that to me, that would be, you know, more ideal. You know, going to Atlanta. You have two quarterbacks that have an injury history. Seeing what that looks like, I can see that. Outside of that, the other situations are not likely.
18:56Chad Johnson:Hey, man. I think the Atlanta – the Atlanta Falcon thing is so intriguing to me because of the high-power offenses they have. They got a solid defense, Arkan Ochoa, and if you got a guy at the helm, if Tua or Penix can hold up, I'm talking about the way they're playing pretty good ball. They ain't got to be lights out. But, boy, if they got somebody back there who knows what's going on, hey, man, them boys can go deep, man. They can go deep into the postseason.
19:25Joe Johnson:That's correct. I can't believe that. I mean, Joe, when I saw it on Twitter, I'm like, what? Yeah, me too. It's crazy. And the first thing that went into my head, you know what? We can't have a quarterback on the roster, active roster at that, that played that well. And if things don't go well, the first thing, the whispers are, oh, they need to put so-and-so in and see how he can do. I mean, but I don't think the Cowboys will even be in that situation where things are going to go bottoms out before that even happens. That's not happening, not with those weapons and what you have, but just the fact that they they chose sam howell over joe milton despite how i mean despite how joe milton played i mean i mean the nation the business is a dirty business in general man
20:09Chad Johnson:because when you think about it it ain't like joe milton one of the top five or top six highest paid backups hell he ain't making that type of money okay oh joe making a million dollars a year
20:20Shannon Sharpe:Which is a bargain, a basement. A basement bargain. That's creepy.
20:31Shannon Sharpe:Bargain basement. My bad. Oh, Joe, you got Calum Murray's been in the league one, two, three, four, five, six, seven years. He's been fully healthy three years, three times. He missed three games. He missed six games. He missed nine games. He played all the time, and he missed 12 games. so you banking on him being fully healthy right absolutely so are the vikings that's why they signed him on no that's how bad he was that's how bad your situation was were you desperate yeah
20:59Joe Johnson:you'll do anything hey hey weren't the browns desperate the browns have been in purgatory for what three four years now because they were desperate in nfl team you know damn well the browns yeah hey listen nfl team joe they're desperate for the quarterback position yeah Anyone that has had any type of success prior to coming to their team, they're going to get him because of the small sample size of when Kyler Murray is healthy. Boy, he's hella deal with. He's hella deal. He has injury history. He has an injury problem. I mean, there's some other quarterbacks that do as well. You know, they've been injured.
21:32Joe Johnson:No, I'm not saying any names, but hey.
21:37Yeah.
21:39Shannon Sharpe:And I think the thing is with Minnesota, That let you – they've been telling you this. They know they made a mistake letting Sam Darnaghan out of the building. But you can't do nothing about that. You put all your eggs in the basket with J.J. McCarthy. And on the way to the market, he tripped and fell. And all your profit went out the window. So now, Ocho, we got to – we're hoping. We're hoping somebody does something that gives us an opportunity to quarterback. You know when they bring a veteran quarterback in there And the guy's a young guy You already know what's going to happen Ocho We saw it with Richardson And I was like Ocho They paid that man 14 million How you going to pay somebody more than what you paid The guy that's been working there for years And think he ain't going to take that job
22:27Joe Johnson:Their mind was already made up Their mind was already made up And you know that might come into this situation As well We don't know because we're not at Cowboys camp You know the beat reporters know Mr. Clarence, he knows who played who had the better camp, Sam Howard or Joe Mildon. I guarantee he would tell the truth. I know you're watching
22:48Shannon Sharpe:Clarence, who had the better camp?
22:50Chad Johnson:All you got to do is look at the preseason.
22:54Shannon Sharpe:Well, yeah, hey, I mean sometimes they want us to believe us or our lying eyes.
23:00Chad Johnson:Nah, nah, come on now. Damn. That's crazy.
23:07Shannon Sharpe:I hope someone gives him an opportunity to be on the active roster and he gets an opportunity to play because I think he but you know the thing is he starts all behind again Ocho because guess what I gotta learn a new system and I gotta learn it on the fly as opposed to being you know ingratiated in the system this would have been his second year in the system obviously he's go what third year man
23:32Chad Johnson:Hey, but he got them attributes that you can't teach. You can't teach them attributes that young man got, bro. He's going to come ready.
23:42Shannon Sharpe:You right about that? Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer shared team's plans for newly acquired Broderick Jones today. Jones played both left and right tackle during his time in Pittsburgh, but Schottenheimer said he'd be playing right side in Dallas. Schottenheimer said Terrence Steele to tell him about the impending trade. Schottenheimer said Steel is 1-8 at right tackle now, and Jones has to show that he can do it in order to wind up in the starting lineup. That competition will begin immediately and could extend the week beyond week one. Ocho, when you bring a guy that was a first-round draft pick in, you ain't got to give me no hands up.
24:20Shannon Sharpe:I already know why you brought him in. Joe, you brought a guy in that was a first-round draft pick just three years ago. And you're going to talk about, and I got to, hey, guess what? we make it a trade for a tackle. And then you're going to have the nerve to say, oh, yeah, but right now you want A. If there's an A, what does that mean?
24:38Joe Johnson:There's a B, a C, a D? Yeah. Hey, listen, that's an important position. I'm glad he didn't say left tackle. Hell.
24:47Shannon Sharpe:Oh, he ain't playing left. No, no, no. I think they settled that left. Hey, a chick tell you, hey, you my number one. Well, I want to know who two and three is. That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm trying to figure out, Joe, why you bulljiving. You said I'm number one. They got to be a ranking.
25:06Chad Johnson:Don't play that. Because she ain't the only one trying to be the only one that's your man. Oh, okay. Okay. Okay.
25:15Shannon Sharpe:But look, I tell you what, I will give the Cowboys credit this year. The Cowboys are going for it. They've made moves, Ocho. they've made more moves, Ocho and Joe, this year than we've seen them make in a long time. I agree.
25:34Shannon Sharpe:Jerry, though, is sitting on his hand. Well, nah, we're not going to do this. We like to develop our talent. We like to blah, blah, blah. All that sounds good. That sounds fine and good. You try to win a championship. You got to do it with action. You need a couple of your guys. You need a couple of your guys. But last I checked, Matthew Stafford wasn't homegrown. Miles Garrett isn't homegrown. You got it. Yeah, you need some guys homegrown. Hey, Rashid Shahid, was he homegrown on Joe? What about Sam Darnold? No, sir.
26:10Joe Johnson:What about Big Cat, Linda Williams? No, sir. Oh, okay. You need pieces along the way. Absolutely, you do. To get to your destination. The one thing I like about Jerry, you know, we do talk about him a lot, Uncle Joe, but one thing about him is he did a lot of talking. but this season in particular he backed up everything with action I'm a football fan so I'm excited for the Cowboys and what they're going to do regular season they're always phenomenal that postseason
26:45Chad Johnson:we got to start somewhere we got to start somewhere
26:51Shannon Sharpe:you got to chill
26:52Chad Johnson:don't put that bad energy in the air like that. Don't do that. Don't do that. Because look, look, look. Y 'all talking about postseason, what we got to do in the postseason? Hell, we have to start somewhere. We starting with the Giants, okay? Yeah, we want to be phenomenal again throughout the regular season. Postseason, get here, we'll take care of that when we get to it. But right now, we got to start with game one. Yeah.
27:17Shannon Sharpe:I saw what you call them. The Giants cut their number seven pick in the draft from a few years ago, every kneel what position you talk about good i'm a big boy yeah oh you remember him jumping up six seven 330 pounds jumping on 40 inch boxes and doing all that doing split high yeah none of that translates to playing the game of football couldn't block my sister hold on i got it she see And she's 66. Go ahead. But, look, the mere fact is that they gave Terrence Steele a lot of money a few years ago, gave a big-time contract, and for whatever reason, he hurt his – I think he tore his knee, and he really wasn't the same.
28:06Shannon Sharpe:I think, Chad, correct me if I'm wrong. I think he had an injury because he hadn't been the same since that injury. I'm almost certain that Terrence Steele had an injury at some point, and he's been a different player ever since.
28:30Shannon Sharpe:Andy Young, he only 29 years of age. He only 29.
28:38Ooh.
28:41Chad Johnson:Yeah, we ain't messing around. He only 29. We ain't messing around. We trying to get something done this year, man. Yeah.
28:49Shannon Sharpe:Oh, you trying to get something done? You know we trying to get done.
28:51Chad Johnson:Stop playing. You know we trying to hold up that big boy at the end of the season.
28:57Joe Johnson:That Lombardi, Joe?
28:58Chad Johnson:That Lombardi. Listen, so if you and Ocho want to come hang out with her, because you know when we win, I'm probably going to move to Dallas. They win it. I'm going to move to Dallas.
29:06Joe Johnson:I'm probably going to move. Wait, hold on. Wait, hold on. Hold on. I'm confused. If they win the Super Bowl, you moving to Dallas?
29:13Chad Johnson:Yeah, I'm probably going to move to Dallas.
29:15Joe Johnson:I mean, what's the point of you moving? I mean, you have really no connection with the Cowboys like that.
29:20Chad Johnson:Yeah. Who ain't got no connection with the Cowboys like that? Well, guess what, Joe?
29:27Shannon Sharpe:You be right there in Atlanta for the rest of your life.
29:30Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, look, look, look. I expect you to say, I expect the hater to say something, man. I expect me to say something like that. It's okay. It's okay.
29:39Joe Johnson:Joe, I ain't hate. You know, I'm just, you know, hey, I'm. yeah
29:45Shannon Sharpe:still towards ACL and MCL four years ago because I know because he I thought he I thought he was solid at right tackle now he ain't no damn Lane Johnson so I ain't fit to sit here and hold y 'all on that one Lane Johnson the best right tackle one of the best right tackles ever in a game
30:01Joe Johnson:yeah it's his last season too huh
30:03Shannon Sharpe:so he he was he past or present he wasn't that but he was better than what he's been guys run around him now it's just hard I mean you know it's hard for him to kick It's hard for him to get out there. Them guys fast. That get off, hey, as a rush hand, a rusher, all I want to know, that 10-yard – what's that short shot, Ocho? What's that 10-yard split? How fast – hey, how fast can you bend it? Bend it like Beckham. You see them guys, they got that big old circle. They be running around there. They be leading.
30:34Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah. They working on that bend.
30:37Shannon Sharpe:That's what they do. Yeah, yeah. How low can you go?
30:43Chad Johnson:Yeah. So when you punch, them guys up to you.
30:49Shannon Sharpe:Hey, man, that DT used to hit that bend, put his arm on the guy and bounce right back up. That's how long it is. Damn. Yeah.
30:59Chad Johnson:Yeah, hey, hey, hey. I know we got y 'all attention now, man, but we ain't finna be playing those silly games with y 'all this year. Just let y 'all know. Who you talking about? I'm talking about them Cowboys. What you mean?
31:12Shannon Sharpe:Oh man, y 'all know y 'all do. Y 'all go cowboy now. Week three. Cowboys gonna do cowboy league.
31:18Chad Johnson:Week three.
31:21Shannon Sharpe:Week three.
31:23Chad Johnson:Week three, that's when we gonna make a statement. Week three, we gonna make a statement, yeah. Hold on, hey Joe, I got a question for you. What's the question, partner?
31:30Joe Johnson:Week three, y 'all play the Ravens, huh?
31:31Chad Johnson:Yeah.
31:32Joe Johnson:Can I ask you a question? Go ahead. How you gonna stop eight?
31:36Chad Johnson:How we gonna stop eight? Yeah, eight, yeah, eight, yeah, eight. How are you going to stop these boys? What you talking about? How are you going to stop eight?
31:44Shannon Sharpe:No, a better question, Ocho. You already know the Dallas Cowboys, their run defense. Man, can you imagine Big King Henry?
31:51Joe Johnson:Man, hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey, hey, what happened the last time King Henry played against the Cowboys?
31:58Chad Johnson:Hey, here y 'all go talking about old stuff again. Y 'all tell myself that don't matter. They don't even matter no more. We done tightened it up. We done fixed them little gaps. Man, ain't going to be none of that, partner. King Henry won't even.
32:08Shannon Sharpe:He went through him like Metal Musil went through an old runner.
32:10Chad Johnson:He won't even have 100 yards on us. He won't what? He won't have 100.
32:17Shannon Sharpe:No, you're right. He's going to have two.
32:19Chad Johnson:All right. Okay. Okay.
32:25Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Oh, Joe. Man, you see that, Joe? What? Yeah. They say Mad King Henry went through y 'all like Metal Musil.
32:32Chad Johnson:Oh, you talking about something old, man. We can't even get that back. We can't get that back. That's gone. Right. Just the foreshadow of the future.
32:42Joe Johnson:History repeats itself. Hey, they might not be able to stop Scataboo. Who? Y 'all might not be able to stop Scatpack, boy.
32:53Chad Johnson:Boy, hey, y 'all must know us very well, huh? Man, we not finna be - I do, that's the problem.
32:58Shannon Sharpe:That's why Ochoa not talking like this, because we know y 'all very well.
33:00Chad Johnson:We not about to be playing on, see y 'all talking about the old cowboys. We the new cowboys. I'm talking about the Dallas Cowboys. Oh, you guys have hating too, for real. Now, for real.
33:11Shannon Sharpe:No, y 'all just say, hey, if you mention anything other than Deceptives and 90s Cowboys, then Cowboys. Man, y 'all, boy, y 'all, so I can, ooh.
33:20Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, I ain't saying, hey, Joe, I'm rooting for you, Joe. I ain't saying nothing bad. I'm rooting for you. But you low-key be hating too, though.
33:26Chad Johnson:I can feel it. You be saying, like, you be rolling with us, but I can feel the energy.
33:34Joe Johnson:Joe, anytime I talk about the Cowboys, I always stay on the offensive end. I always stay on the offensive end. Boy, y 'all going to be hell on offense, boy. You hear me? Now, I don't know what we're going to get defensively. If they can protect. You know, you got Quinny Williams up there. You know, got Kenny Clark. You know, I don't know who you got on the edge. You know, the second level, you know, them boys decent. You know, I know we got my little family rattled over there, too. You know, Joe, I still don't know because the question is out. about the defense. I know you got the players, but you still got to go out there and execute.
34:07Joe Johnson:Well then, we got to execute.
34:09Chad Johnson:We made some changes defensively, Ocho.
34:12Joe Johnson:So y 'all been making changes for 30 years, Joe.
34:14Chad Johnson:Then here you go. Now you got here you go talking about old stuff again.
34:18Joe Johnson:Okay, my bad. I'ma shut up. You know what I'm saying? My bad, I'ma shut up.
34:25Joe Johnson:Hey, we the boys, Joe. We the boys.
34:27Chad Johnson:You already know it. We not the boys. I don't even know how you're going to be able to come on here on week three, boy.
34:37Shannon Sharpe:What about Ravens?
34:39Joe Johnson:You better hope we can come on here week one. You talking about worry about week three? Oh, Lord. You know that division game? It ain't going to be easy now.
34:50Shannon Sharpe:I can see a scenario. Y 'all start the season. Man, come on.
34:54Chad Johnson:Keep it 100. You ain't. Come on. No, no, no. Keep it 100. You don't see nothing like this. Stop playing with us.
35:00Shannon Sharpe:don't do that don't do that don't do that snowball what lose to the giants come home who they got the second week uh who y 'all got week two joe let me look hold on joe hey joe don't joe don't put
35:17Joe Johnson:him down for l anyway oh yeah and y 'all got to deal with jd come on you got to deal with a healthy Jaden Daniels, Scary Terry, Diggs coming back off a thousand yard season and a few touchdowns.
35:32Chad Johnson:Hey, hey.
35:32Joe Johnson:All the little problems behind him. Fresh start.
35:36Chad Johnson:We're going to be 2-0 in the division, partner.
35:39Shannon Sharpe:Okay, okay. Yeah, yeah. Nah. I don't know about all that, Ojo. I don't know about that 2-0, Joe.
35:45Chad Johnson:2-0 in the division. Start the division out. I think it goes 1-1.
35:49Shannon Sharpe:And then when y 'all play Baltimore, you'll be 1-1.
35:50Chad Johnson:By the time we get to Baltimore, we're going to be 2-0. and then we're going to have so much momentum going into week three, but we're going to stampede them boys.
36:00Shannon Sharpe:Is that your first – this is – would that be your first home? No, that's overseas. That's in Brazil. Y 'all going to wail over to get your ass kicked? Come on.
36:12Chad Johnson:Come on, chill.
36:13Shannon Sharpe:Ain't nothing like getting a – you know what, Joe? Ain't nothing like getting a ass kicked away from home. You know, your mom beats you at home. you know ain't nobody see it but you go on the road you're gonna get tore up at the grocery store at church or at school oh man hey joe i'll be like granny you gonna beat me right here you damn right
36:33Chad Johnson:hey i'm i'm glad y 'all talking like that because i know them boys watching and i know they're gonna they they're gonna put up yeah yeah ain't no need you acting like oh me talking about oh
36:44Joe Johnson:I support them boys offensively. Yeah. Okay. And pick and finna go crazy.
36:50Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah.
36:51Joe Johnson:I'm telling you.
36:52Chad Johnson:So don't y 'all be trying to get my players neither when we drive, when we get into the fantasy draft, uh, uh, Ocho. We try to, I'm trying to win fantasy, Joe.
37:00Shannon Sharpe:If I get the guy, I get the guy. If I don't, I don't. I mean, look, that's what I'm trying to do. Look. Come Monday. Come Monday. When we, when we have our, our, our fantasy draft, it is what it is.
37:16Shannon Sharpe:I can't make no promises. It ain't going to happen. I can't make no promises. They got at the Giants, commanders in Baltimore.
37:27Shannon Sharpe:I think the commanders, they play commanders in Brazil, but anyway, that's a home game. At the Houston Texans.
37:37Shannon Sharpe:I'm scared. I ain't even got to play. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. But it's considered a home game for them.
37:44Chad Johnson:What you scared of the Texans for? What make you brr? What's all that? What you mean, what's all that? Boy, you see Will Anderson?
37:50Shannon Sharpe:Will Anderson lining up on Terrence Steele and Brock Jones.
37:54Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe. That's scary, Joe. Daniil Hunter?
38:00Shannon Sharpe:Oh, LZ? How they gonna get over? How pig and them gonna get up against Stingley? What you mean how they gonna get over? and Petri watch the game watch the wall that was wrong with you you don't you put a will you put that stuff in that Petri dish you just examine Joe I got a
38:16Joe Johnson:question for you go ahead partner you ever seen Derek Steamy yeah yeah yeah when they play yeah play in the man he right in your face I know Houston a
38:28Chad Johnson:right about no game about no games I already know defensively you did a They ain't playing no game. But hell, they still got a quarterback that's a little inconsistent too over there, don't they?
38:38Shannon Sharpe:Whoa, whoa, whoa. What, what? Damn, that's how you feel? I'm just keeping it 100. You hear that CJ? You hear that CJ?
38:48Joe Johnson:You know Stroud can hear you now.
38:50Chad Johnson:Yeah, I know you can hear me, but hey, y 'all.
38:52Shannon Sharpe:They be watching. They be watching Nightcap. They know what's up. Well, hey, I'm just saying. You gonna find out. You gonna find, boy, hey, I can see a scenario right now. They have about eight seconds.
39:03Chad Johnson:I can see a scenario where we get about three picks. I can see we get about three picks.
39:09Shannon Sharpe:Man, you ain't got nobody got no damn hands over there. Hold on, hold on. Three picks?
39:14Joe Johnson:Hold on. Who going to stop Nico Collins?
39:20Chad Johnson:Just watch the game. I know you ain't talking about unseasoned playing. Just watch the game, fellas. Just watch the game. Look, we got to start week one. We start week one. Y 'all are way in there in week six. Hey, Joe, we jumping the gun, huh? Yeah, y 'all got slow. At Green Bay. Look at Turbo. Look at Turbo. He's standing going. At Philly. Check him out. Check out Turbo. He's the man talking about something in week eight, something that three months from now. At Seattle. Come on, look.
39:46Joe Johnson:They got Philly and Seattle back to back?
39:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. No, they got Green Bay and Philly back to back. Oh, my goodness. Wait, who's at the Philly? Then they got Houston, Tampa, Green Bay, Philly. Hey, why y 'all act like - By that time, they should be out of the playoffs by then. Man, please. Why y 'all act like - They should be out of the playoffs by then if my plan, if my evil plan works out.
40:11Chad Johnson:Why y 'all act like people ain't looking at the schedule when they see us, they like, damn, we got the Cowboys. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
40:16Shannon Sharpe:They say, ooh, boy, look at the Cow - Ooh, Cowboys, that's -
40:20Chad Johnson:Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, don't do that. Please don't do that. Don't act like that. You and Ocho really wildin' tonight. I don't know what really got y 'all -
40:28Joe Johnson:Whoa, whoa, whoa, Joe. Hold on. Slow down, Turbo. You're asking me, how they going to stop Nico Connery?
40:34Chad Johnson:How they going to – everybody trying to all that.
40:36Joe Johnson:Joe, everything I ask about is always about the defense. I already gave you credit for the offense. Y 'all going to put up – listen, Joe, let me tell you something about the Cowboys, Uncle Joe, and people that are Cowboys fans in the chat. Y 'all going to put up 30 points a game. Joe, I'm telling you right now before the season even started, y 'all going to throw 30 points a game. That's never been y 'all's problem. You know where the problem lies. I ain't got no problem with y 'all. I like it. I like that. I love pick. I love CD. You know where the issue lies. And I'm going to leave it at that.
41:08Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, we them boys.
41:09Shannon Sharpe:All right. All right. Hold on. Let me throw it down. Y 'all not them boys. And guess what, Joe? Y 'all not going to make no noise.
41:16Chad Johnson:Oh, oh. I don't really know what's going on with you, bro. Like, for real, for real. You got to take that hating jacket off. It don't look good on you, partner. Take it off. Take it off.
41:25Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I'm going to take that jacket off, man. yo you know i'm a double no hate haters hey jack is only coming immediate uh small through large i'm a double x man i can't i can't fit no hating jacket joe but hey but okay all right joe man hercules hercules hercules but we got something for y 'all boy
41:49Joe Johnson:nah y 'all ain't got nothing y 'all don't understand uncle joe man i got butterflies man i got i got I got chills just thinking about how close football season is here, man. Hey, yo, I'm feeling it. Hey, Joe, honestly, Joe, all love, man. We them boys, I'm wishing you Cowboys luck this season. I'm wishing y 'all boys luck. Damn. 45:30Shannon Sharpe:Welcome to the show. Janelle is Cincinnati signed with the Cincinnati Bengals after spending the much, a large part of his career with the Washington Commanders. Here he is, defensive tackle Jonathan Allen. Man, I'm doing good. Appreciate you guys for having me. Yes, sir. No, appreciate you. Look, there's been a heightened sense of urgency. We've heard Joe Burrow get out there and says, man, I'm tired of saying next year and next year. We'll get him next year. And he's like, look, he's lit a fire under the entire organization. Do you feel that sense? 1 ,000%. I mean, you know just as well as anybody, your window doesn't stay open forever.
46:06Whenever you have an opportunity to do something special as a team, you got to take advantage of it. I mean, how many times have we seen young players get far into the playoffs and then never reach that same spot again? So, you know, for us, there's always a sense of urgency. You know, we have a lot of vets who came here to do one thing, and that's to win.
46:22Joe Johnson:Listen, what is that locker room like, especially defensively? We know what the Bengals can do, and we know what they've been able to do, and always having a very, very good offense. Our Achilles heel over the years has always been our defense. Obviously, offensively, being able to score 30, 35 points, but not being able to stop anybody. What have we done defensively, inside, schematically, to make sure that doesn't happen this season? I think we all agree that to play good defense, to play good football, it starts up front. Offensively, without an offensive line, nothing else matters. And I think the same goes for the defense.
46:51So I think this year with the guys we brought in and the guys that we have, I think the defensive line is taking a big bonus on us. And we understand how if we play good, the ship's going to go good. So we understand that. We're excited for the challenge. I mean, honestly, personally, this is how I want it. I want the pressure to be on us.
47:07Chad Johnson:Hey, Jonathan, tell me, what made Cincinnati the right move for you at this point in your career, bro? I think when you look at what it takes to win, you've got to have a quarterback. It doesn't matter how good every other piece is. You've got to have a quarterback, and they have that. Then on top of that, I don't think people realize how important coaching is. And I look at this coaching staff with Coach Montgomery, who I've known for 14 years, and Coach Golden and the things they can do defensively, that's just something I really wanted to be a part of. So, honestly, it really was kind of a no-brainer for me.
47:37Right. We had your rookie on yesterday, Landon Robinson.
47:42Shannon Sharpe:When did you know, Jonathan, that this kid can make the team? This kid has the potential to be special. Because, like he said, he's a little undersized, but he's quick, went to the Naval Academy. So, you're probably looking at him like, well, damn, Naval Academy, okay, That's a prestigious institution, but I don't know how good a brand of football they play. But the kid had four sacks in the tackle for losses, led the preseason in both categories. When did you know this kid had the ability to beat? I say every year when OTAs start, there's always like three or four guys. You're like, damn, they look kind of good.
48:16Like, I don't know if they can do it, but they look real good in OTAs right now. Like, quick, athletic, moving through drills good. And so for us, it's when the pass come on, when the game's... what's it going to look like, you know what I mean? Because we've all seen guys who look good in OTAs and training camp look great and then preseason comes and who knows. So I kind of had my eye on him as one of the guys I was excited to see. And after he played that first game, I'm like, yeah, I don't think this is a guy we're going to be able to let go because he's going to get claimed too fast. So he made it kind of hard on the team.
48:45Chad Johnson:Yeah.
48:48Shannon Sharpe:When you look at Cincinnati, now you got – and you played for the most part of your career next to another book in DT. now you got D Lars next to you. What can we expect from that combination? When you look at a guy like Dexter, you got to double him every single play. I mean, you got a guy who's 350, 360, 370, moving like he's 305. I mean, he's a problem. He's a problem. So for us as a defense, we all on the D line expect a lot of one-on-ones. And that really puts pressure on us to make sure that we're supporting him. You know what I mean? So I know for me, I have a high expectation for myself on what I can do.
49:24And, you know, I've reached a point in my career where genuinely all I care about is helping this team win, whatever that means, doing the dirty work, doing the stuff that's not pretty. As long as we're winning, I'll be happy.
49:35Shannon Sharpe:That's what I wanted to ask you going into year 10. What what? So now after you play 10 years and that's a decade, because now, you know, you set goals. You're like, man, if I can just get me five, now I can get me 10. And here you are in your 10th year and you like, what are your expect? What is your expectation? What is the realistic goal for Jonathan Allen this year? Every single year, I feel like my goals change. When I first came in is I want to prove I belong. Then after I proved I belong is I want to take care of my family financially, make sure they're all set, and I've done that. For me, I think it's to really prove that what I've done to my career, I can do in the postseason.
50:10That's what I really want to see. I have very high expectations for myself. And, you know, Coach Montgomery is probably the only coach since Coach Saban that has had higher expectations for myself than I have. So for me, I expect nothing short of dominance. I think I'm a top D tackle in the league, and I've got to go out there and prove it. That's what I'm working towards every day.
50:29Joe Johnson:I like that. Listen, we know what you've done throughout your career. We talked a little bit about your expectations and the team's expectations. I want to step a little bit away from the game of football. What other passions do you have? Let's say whenever you're done playing, I'm not sure how much longer you do want to play. What's going to be your transition once you're done playing? I've always been interested to know because many players struggle not knowing what to do after football. Do you have something in mind that you're passionate about that you're going to lead into once you're done?
50:57There's a lot of things. Like, I love golf. You know, not going to make a career out of that. But the first couple, oh, that's all I do. I play golf and play games. So after football, the first year while I'm getting this weight off, I'm going to do that. And, you know, I'm telling you, go see some doctors in Panama and get right.
51:19I love coaching and I want to be around the game of football but I can't do college, I can't do NIL I can't do the recruiting and just coaching the league just the job security, I just don't know if I want to put my family through that I'm big into business, a lot of investments I'm in, I'm into golf and I'm into stuff like that but I really think for me, I'm just trying to ride this horse as long as I can and afterwards we'll take a step back with my team and see what comes next
51:44Chad Johnson:hey hey hey jonathan defense alignment i always say offensive linemen are hold give us the truth bro what percentage of plays are y 'all actually out there getting held if we're being honest i would probably say like 75 percent 25 percent of the time we ain't really we just get blocked but 75 percent of the time now the office linemen are good they're tricky especially the vest i mean you go you go up against a guy like trent he's swatting your hands down he's throwing you up the field from behind so they got a lot of sneaky stuff that the refs can't see but no they do a good little bit especially on the inside yeah yeah
52:23Shannon Sharpe:johnny you were in uh minnesota last year and it seems like you know for whatever reason it just didn't it just didn't mention there baby with the offense because i thought defense i thought brian flora is a hell of a dc he had you guys flying off the football but like you said it It doesn't matter how well the defense plays. There's not been a defense, especially in today's game. It used to be if you played defense, even in college, you know, if you played outstanding defense, ran the football, you could hide your quarterback. But you can't hide your quarterback in the NFL because they're going to make, they're going to expose him.
52:53Shannon Sharpe:They're going to make you make him make plays. They'll shut your run down. They'll bring eight, nine guys in the box, and they'll make you throw the football. Why didn't it work for you? Why didn't it work in Minnesota? I think the thing that people really got to understand is how much goes into the X's and O's. I think a lot of times we get caught up in the players and don't get me wrong. The players make a big difference. But if people really understood what our meetings look like in the chess match that happens every single play, people would have no idea how complicated football is. And that's coming from a guy where when the defensive coordinator starts talking about DBs and coverages, I zone out because it's too much for me.
53:27And so I think I think JJ was he was in a great situation with the offense. he had, but he was in a very unfortunate situation because most young guys, most young quarterbacks aren't brought in to lead a team to a Super Bowl. You know what I mean? Like, they're allowed to go out there and make mistakes without fear of bad things happening. And I just feel like last year, you know, after letting Sam Darnold go and put a huge spotlight on him. Yes.
53:52Shannon Sharpe:And then Sam's playing well in Seattle. So people look like, hold on. We had the guy. He went 14-3, made the pro. Now he goes to Seattle. We see, we We could have had that and we got this. Because the comparison, you know, comparison to the Thief of Joy. But you tell that to the Vikings fans and they watch the quarterback go 14-3 and we let them walk out the door and go and basically hand the Super Bowl to the other. Yeah, man, I just, it's probably one of the hardest situations I feel like a young quarterback can be thrown into because you have everything. You're with the quarterback guru, so there's no excuses.
54:27And any time you play bad, it's going to be magnified. But, you know, like I tell people, that's the NFL. I mean, it's a great game, but a dirty business. So, you know, pray for the number eight.
54:38Joe Johnson:You know what else makes it worse, too? To talk about the Viking situation, J.A., when you have one of the best receivers, probably 1A, depending on who you ask, you got someone like Jettis, you got Addison, you got Hawkinson. So, really, you think you can put any adequate quarterback in there. You should have success. Even as a rookie coming in, when you have that type of supporting cast, there should be really no reason and so it's it kind of you kind of got a bad deal especially as a rookie you want to give him time to develop but you know how this nfl works you know how you know how it works they give you one maybe two years if that if you show no growth when you got that kind of talent around you they move on quick man yeah i don't think people realize how how big confidence is you can take the best player in the league if they don't have confidence they're not good enough to play in this league and when he when he had confidence like the first the fourth quarter in the first game against the bears played really good when he played against detroit in detroit played really well so he showed he could do it but i mean it's about consistency and playing with confidence and you know he has yeah he had a lot of up and downs that year
55:43Shannon Sharpe:let's uh um let's take it off the field for just a second and um because you can share some light into something for us uh grew up in foster care you'll follow yourself now what type of father are you trying to be for your kid? Man, man, I think for me, the biggest thing is to be present. After a long day of work, coming home, I just want to relax and be on my phone. And my daughter is a firecracker. She's just like a mama. She is bouncing off the walls, jumping, wants to jump on daddy. So I think for me, I just really want to be present. I wanted her to know that she's loved. And I think that comes with just giving time.
56:17I mean, right now, I can buy her as many toys as she wants, but the thing she's going to remember now is the time we spend together. So I think I just try to focus on stuff like that and raising her in the Lord and, you know, put on a good path.
56:29Shannon Sharpe:You know, because that's really hard, Jay, because the thing is, like, you got meetings and you got because a lot of times your wife is the mom in the day because she's got to go to all this, the daycare. She's got to go to I don't know how old she is or she got to go to the PTAs and she got to go to the meetings and she's got to go to sock all the stuff while you're traveling and you're getting ready to prepare. She's doing all of this. how do you make sure that there's going to come a time that you're going to have to say she's like well where is daddy why wasn't daddy here when how do you how do you explain that because i think that was the thing that ocho and i struggle with is that trying to be the best that we possibly be at our craft while still trying to be present because greatness it requires an unrelenting drive and attention and focus i think for me the hardest thing since i got married and since i had kids is I used to think being a man is, oh, I'm financially taking care of my family.
57:19I'm doing my job. But now I realize that you could be the richest man in the world and still be a terrible, terrible husband, terrible father. So I kind of really had to, and I had a great example from my coaches to my own dad. And, you know, I think for me, sometimes money can blind you to what the truth is. And for me, I'm just really trying to be present. I can go home and, yeah, my wife doesn't have to work. Or, yes, we might have a chef or a cook. but just the little things that help me strengthen our relationship to let her know that i see her you know what i mean because even though she might not be financially helping boy she she holds it down for me so i just really really have to sacrifice my own desires a lot a lot of times i want to go home and play the game can't do it you know so it truly is sacrifice and almost more sacrifice than it takes to be a good football player because you do that naturally it's at At this point, working hard is what we've done our whole life.
58:12But going home and putting yourself after your kids, after your wife, after everybody else, that takes a lot of maturity and growing.
58:21Shannon Sharpe:You know, once you keep the kid for the day, when you say, okay, baby, I got this, you go get pamphlet, you go to the spa, and you keep the kid for the whole day, then you realize, hey, that is a full-time job. I'm ready to go back to work. I'm ready to go to practice.
58:36Joe Johnson:hey hey hey uncle joe now y 'all need to hear what jay just said right you heard what he said right he found he found one he found a good one he got married you know someone that that had the foundation and turned that house into a home so it's time for us jay all three of us we finna get married we're gonna have a triple wedding well i love it i love it because we try we trying to get in the space you in and be able to have that that same conversation with each other that you having with us. But that's inspirational. Hey, Uncle Joe, it's that time.
59:09Shannon Sharpe:Ain't no kids going to be involved in mine, though. Uncle, you say you're going to have one. Man, I felt bad. Dude, I'm two years from 60. What I look like, J.A., having a kid, going to graduation. I barely get around in 58. I know damn well I ain't going to be able to chase no kid in 63, 65. It's our dad, that's for sure. Hey, you're getting married.
59:28Joe Johnson:All this getting married next year, because I want to be talking the way J.A. talking next year.
59:32Chad Johnson:Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, J.A. seem like he got it together though, Ocho. Got it all together, boy. Yeah, I already know it, I already know it.
59:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I'm a grandpa though, Ocho. How I'ma have kids, how I'ma have my kids be younger
59:47Chad Johnson:than my grandkids? How that gonna look? Age ain't nothing but a number. Don't worry about the age, baby. Long as you kicking, you still good. Don't worry, we gonna have you right. Yeah, ain't no rules of this. Yeah, man. Ain't no rules. Hey, I don't want to be changing no damn diapers or nothing. I sure don't. Hey, I got to be worried about somebody changing my diaper.
1:00:08Shannon Sharpe:What the hell you talking about changing their diaper? Man, I'm 58. Jay, you see what they're trying to do with my man? Boy, hey, hey, it's a lie. I tell you that, it's a lie. There'll be some days you just sit on the edge of the bed and just stare at the wall for about 20 minutes. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, now, for real, Jay. Just breathe.
1:00:22Chad Johnson:Just give me a second, bro. Just give me a second. It's tough. I know. I know. Oh boy, I done been done. Ooh wee.
1:00:28Shannon Sharpe:Woo. Live. Jay, thanks for joining us, man. Hey, stay healthy. Wish you best of luck, man. Hey, Cincinnati, they died to get back to that Super Bowl and bring it home. They've gone a couple of times, but they've never been able to bring it home. But boy, if you could help them bring it home, I know that city, boy, you'll never have to pay for another meal in that city. Well, we gonna see, it's gonna, a lot of work left, but we're excited, man. We're excited, man. I love y 'all boys. Appreciate you for having me, man. Big fan, big fans. Appreciate you, man.
1:00:52Joe Johnson:I'ma see y 'all boys week one. I'm going to come down to Cincinnati, bro. Hey, we're going to be here. All right.
1:00:59Shannon Sharpe:Jonathan Allen, defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals, man. Hey, he has the right attitude, the right mindset. He understands what's expected. He understands what's required. And, you know, you hear him talk. That's the matter of talking. You hear how he talks about things, how things he understands. He knows what to say. He knows how to formulate it. Put it out there. And so, hey, ain't no clickbait, ain't no viral moments. He's like, look, the guy just needed confidence. He had great confidence in game one against Chicago, brought us all the way back. Had played really, really well against Detroit, but for whatever reason, because the comparison, Sam Donald was 14-3.
1:01:37Shannon Sharpe:Sam Donald is 13-4 in Seattle. Sam Donald is bringing his team back. 1:04:46Shannon Sharpe:That's your comparison. Because that guy was there.
1:04:51Shannon Sharpe:Just like you break any guy, any guy, any one. You in a relationship and you got kids, the kid automatically can play a stepmom, stepdad, to real mom, real dad. That's just the way it goes. Especially when the stepmom, when real mom and real dad are doing well. They're like, you ain't my dad, you ain't my mom. And that's what they told JJ McCarthy, you not my quarterback. I quarterback in Seattle.
1:05:23Joe Johnson:Hey, um, in joke, that leash is very short. I'm gonna - Absolutely. That leash is very short, especially when you have that kind of talent. There's no excuse, um. Yeah, yeah. We talk about Jettas. We talk about Hawkinson. You got a phenomenal number two in Addison. Like, it's no excuses. You got Aaron Jones, the running back. Come on now.
1:05:46Shannon Sharpe:The excuse was, Ocho, if you go back and look at it, if you really look at J.J. McCarthy at Michigan, look how much they ran the football.
1:05:54Joe Johnson:The play action was phenomenal because they ran it so well. Yes, because they ran it so well.
1:06:00Shannon Sharpe:In the NFL, you got to throw people open, man. Them guys ain't going to be running. Guys ain't going to be running. Hey, guys understand keys. They're not going to be just blowing coverage and let the wide receiver be 10, 15 yards behind the defense. It doesn't work like that. And so he's going to have to make up in his mind because teams aren't waiting now. I heard, what's the guy's name? He's in Miami, the starting quarterback in Miami. He said, man, they got two starts, and they had already moved on. He was like, damn, I ain't going to get another chance to redeem myself. He said, I'm used to seeing guys get five, 10, 15, 20 starts.
1:06:39Shannon Sharpe:He said, I got two and they were done with me.
1:06:45Shannon Sharpe:They're not waiting anymore. It's too much money involved. They'll cut bait, try to find something else. That's just the way it is now.
1:06:55Shannon Sharpe:After earning a spot on the 53-man roster, to OBJ has a new mission in getting his legendary 13 jersey back. Wide receiver Jalen Hyatt has worn 13 the last three seasons in New York, but Hyatt was waived and signed to the practice squad. Hey, let me ask you a question, Joe.
1:07:13Joe Johnson:You paying for a number on the practice squad? I mean, the practice squad players should be willing to give that number up, especially if you're not on the active roster.
1:07:23Shannon Sharpe:He need to give it up because the number of money was bad enough.
1:07:25Chad Johnson:I think he'll probably give it up now that OBJ is on the team, but I think considering the fact that OBJ knew he had to work for a spot, he probably wasn't really tripping. You know what I mean?
1:07:38Shannon Sharpe:Absolutely not, bro. Let me get that. Let me get that.
1:07:41Joe Johnson:I mean, OBJ, he looked cool in the three.
1:07:45Chad Johnson:Nah, nah, put it back in that one three.
1:07:48Shannon Sharpe:He looked good in three at every other place. 13 at the number in New York. That giant uniform?
1:07:54Chad Johnson:Yeah.
1:07:54Shannon Sharpe:That would be like you going back to Cincinnati and all of a sudden you wearing 83. Yeah.
1:08:00Joe Johnson:I mean, you know what's funny? I mean, when you think about it, when you see that 13 in that Giants uniform, it resonates with Odell. Based on his first seven years in the NFL. Wait, wait, wait. First seven? First? Forgot how many years he was there. But I'm sure because his brother, you got to pay him for something. You know how that jersey works. You know how that situation works.
1:08:22Shannon Sharpe:I give him a quick little five thousand.
1:08:26Chad Johnson:Hold on, they got rid of him though, didn't they? Nah. He on the practice squad. You said you give him a little five grand? Yeah, I give him a little five thousand. Yeah.
1:08:35Shannon Sharpe:You can't disrespect him and disrespect him. Yeah, that's better than nothing though, Joe. He got the jersey. He disrespected my jersey by getting it. You know damn well you ain't supposed to get that jersey like that after what I done did there the first three, four years of my career.
1:08:48Chad Johnson:I'm trying to handle it. I'm with you. I'm with you, huh?
1:08:50Shannon Sharpe:All I'm gonna do, you talk about I disrespected him. I'm gonna put the talent in. I'm gonna say, see that, look at this 13. This is what the 13 was before you got it. Now look at it right now. Yeah, yeah.
1:09:02Joe Johnson:You disrespected me? Give him 25 ,000. Oh, they have 25 ,000 for that 13.
1:09:10Shannon Sharpe:Hell no.
1:09:10Joe Johnson:You gotta give him something though. You can't, you can't. All right, 5 ,000 something. That's disrespectful, that's disrespectful.
1:09:16Chad Johnson:That's crazy, Ocho. The man on the practice squad, bro.
1:09:20Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, ain't nobody gonna see it. You do realize I don't know about to see that jersey, right? But in practice.
1:09:28Joe Johnson:I feel you.
1:09:32Shannon Sharpe:What a bugger that I say. He tell me I give you 100 headaches. No, hell no. I give five grand. That's all I got. Take it or leave it.
1:09:44Joe Johnson:Well, he gonna say leave it because I ain't giving it a little...
1:09:48Shannon Sharpe:You know what? I'm going to the... I'm going to Harv's. Hey, Harv's, come on, man. Let's be real, man. What he should have done, as soon as they released him, I went right to the equipment guy. Woo. That's what I did.
1:10:02Chad Johnson:Hold on, but he getting at 13, though, right? He going to get to win at 13?
1:10:06Shannon Sharpe:No, Jalen Hyatt still got it, I think.
1:10:10Chad Johnson:Damn.
1:10:14Chad Johnson:Hmm.
1:10:16Shannon Sharpe:I'll give 5K. 5K looks so I'm holding him over, Ocho. That's a month. That's a that's one month rent.
1:10:23Joe Johnson:Hey, that's disrespectful. It's better than that. Yeah, but even offer five thousand, you know, you know, okay, give me the jersey for free.
1:10:36Joe Johnson:I think 25, 25 grand is fair. And it's not that much based on what other players have to pay, have to pay for numbers. 25. I think that's fair. That's fair. But you got to realize OBJ on a minimum contract.
1:10:48Shannon Sharpe:contract he don't want them big old contracts that the people come in there and then i'm signed for 175 million dollars and they got 65 million dollars 80 million dollars to sign yeah they can break him off with a 25 50 000 obj said nah no yeah that's tough that's tough we'll see get that country boy nothing
1:11:15Shannon Sharpe:why receiver belief neighbors availability for week one remains the biggest question for the jazz that continued doing the press conference today when he said he feels good but there's still some things that you have to check off the box for you to participate neighbors added that he does not want to come back on a pitch count or with other limitations to what he's able to do y 'all know it i'll tell you one thing he gonna be look at y 'all know y 'all know when the guy comes
1:11:40Chad Johnson:back off injury he don't want no damn snap count he don't want no limp he'll want limited ribs he want to be able to go out there full flared and put on the show y 'all know that let that man wait till week three week four before he come back don't come back now you gotta wait we don't want to have to deal with him huh well I'm just keeping it 100 oh Joe the man don't want to get out there and hurt yourself it's gonna be prime time listen listen listen listen it's gonna be prime time against the Cowboys the man gonna be out there trying to go ham, and it ain't going to go right for him. Just chill out, young fella.
1:12:14Chad Johnson:Come back like week three. You know what I'm saying? Make sure you get that thing right, Ocho. Oh, okay. See, here you go. See, they ain't looking out for your well-being, partner. I'm just trying to help you.
1:12:27Joe Johnson:Joe, that man said, when I come out there, I don't want no pitch count. I want to go out there and play. The same way I was playing before I got hurt, I want them targets. I want them opportunities. He got to take your time there, Ocho.
1:12:43Chad Johnson:Damn, you want to come back week one? Yeah, why not? And get eight, nine, come on, man.
1:12:50Joe Johnson:Hey, you get scared. Not joking. Huh? You know the offense with the ball in the air? You know who the first option is? Who? Uno, what you mean who?
1:13:00Chad Johnson:Oh, okay.

1:13:09Joe Johnson:I'm just saying, number one, they did a number of them Cowboys since he came in the league, man.
1:13:15Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. And when the other receivers on the other side, all of a sudden you get a boost of energy. Now, I mean, when you played another two guard out there, and he going to work, you got a boost of energy, didn't he? Yeah, yeah.
1:13:27Chad Johnson:Yeah.
1:13:28Shannon Sharpe:That's what we counting on. Ojoe not counting on him, seeing CD and Pink doing what they do. He got a boost of energy. Oh.

So I ain't even seen that, Joe. I'm listening to your conversation. Listen to Unk, look, look, look, look, look. Check him out. I wanted to fall.
1:14:03Joe Johnson:Look, look, see what I'm saying? See that's not me. I'm just saying they won't be able to stop Malik. That's all I said. I ain't say nothing after that.
1:14:11Chad Johnson:Well, they ain't going to be able to stop what we got going. You started talking about what all these other teams. Oh, man, can they stop there? Can they stop? Hell, can they stop us?
