In short
The hosts debate quarterback expectations and performance pressure, focusing on Deshaun Watson’s media-driven demands, how body language affects team energy, and what fans should expect from CJ Stroud. They also discuss CJ Stroud’s public demeanor and whether it “infects” the offense, plus expectations for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys (mentioned as a framing topic). Andre Johnson later weighs in on Stroud.
Guest backgrounds
Andre Johnson is a former Houston Texans great and a Super Bowl-era NFL receiver. Dayon Henley is a Los Angeles Chargers linebacker (guest later in the episode). Melissa Jefferson Wooden is an ultimate championship double gold medalist (joins later).
Key claims
Watson mocked the media expectation of “400 yards and five touchdowns,” arguing his job is to operate well and avoid turnovers; the hosts say he must get into rhythm (short throws, quick reads) after an early interception. For Stroud, Johnson dislikes his body language highs/lows because it can ripple through teammates; the hosts agree even keel matters. They argue CJ set a high bar in his rookie year, so expectations remain elevated.
Notable examples
Watson’s early interception; comparisons to Lamar Jackson/Josh Allen having supporting casts; Jay Cutler’s emotionless demeanor; Eli Manning and Peyton Manning/Tom Brady examples; Randy Moss rookie-year expectations.

Chargers linebacker Dayon Henley joins us. And ultimate championship double gold medalist Melissa Jefferson Wooden joins us a little bit later. But first, Deshaun Watson was asked if he needed to have a big game to start the Browns' first home game this season.
7:25Shannon Sharpe:Here's what he had to say. Then return home goes really well. No, I think personally, I think all that is for the media. I mean, I think the media has this expectation that I'm supposed to throw 400 yards and five touchdowns every week. So until that happens, I guess it's going to be the same situation. So, again, my job is to make sure I'm operating well so we can try to get a win and keep moving forward from there. Ocho? Yes, sir. He said 400 yards and five touchdowns. I was just hoping that we can get 250 in a couple of touchdowns. But what do you think? That's it. I think he understands. Obviously, he's trying to answer in some of the humorous manner and understanding that his job is on the line.
8:12His lease is extremely short. He has to play well. He has to play well. Again, I've said and I say it again for those that are watching, for those that are listening, that Deshaun Watson's lease is extremely short and they can't start out the gate 0-2. They can't start out the gate 0-2. I think they have Tampa Bay this week, if I'm not mistaken. Yes. He has to play well. And obviously Tampa Bay coming off, I wouldn't say an upset, coming off a losing effort against Cincinnati. They're looking to go into Cleveland. Actually, no, they're playing in Tampa, actually. In Tampa. Yeah, they're looking to have their first home game winning Tampa against what they probably already checked off as a win against the Browns.
8:54So I'm hoping Deshaun can get himself together, have a better understanding on how important it is for him to play well. if not I think I think they may make a move going into week three with their first home game being in Cleveland
9:11Shannon Sharpe:you know guys I hate to get on here and say how someone should speak but how about I need to play well in order for us to win a game forget playing well so I start the game at home what about Ocho I need to play well in order for us to win a game damn where the game is home on the road We could be playing on the moon, but I need to play better than what I'm playing. You see the difference between quarterbacks that really get it? Jaden Daniels, what did he say? Even though it was not his responsibility, he said, you know what? I should have reminded him. In this situation, I should have reminded.
9:46As a third-year quarterback, I should have had to remind a 12-year veteran, let's not do anything stupid. You notice what he said? He said, I. I should have. Listen to that Cam Ward. We should have. Listen to that what he said. You see the difference between those that get it and those that don't. I'm going to let you go ahead and jam it, Joe, then I'm going to follow you up after that.
10:13Chad Johnson:My bad. I don't think we are. We're not necessarily looking for 400 yards. Okay, Ocho. You know what I mean? We ain't looking for that. But I'm looking for comfortable, you know, quarterback play. I want to see a guy back there who looks comfortable, who's making plays, who's being decisive in what it is that he want to do. You know what I mean? I just think right now it's a lot of indecision. It's a lot of pressure on Deshaun. But, man, listen, he does. He does have to play well for him in order for that man to keep his job, bro, in order for him not to make changes. I think if he take care of his part, Ocho, meaning don't turn the ball over.
10:48Chad Johnson:You know what I mean? Yes. Do your part. But to say that people, you know, are looking for him to throw for 400 yards, man, we ain't looking for that, bro. We just want you to get back to looking comfortable back there. Looking comfortable, looking confident. Okay, you tried it your way. Okay, 400 yards. Tell me what you think. What Dinkin and Duncan is going to get you, Ocho? Tell me throwing the ball at or near the line of scrimmage. Tell me how many games you expect that to win for you. No, not very many. Not very many, but also it's also the job of the offensive play caller to get Deshaun Watson in rhythm.
11:24You know his confidence might be shot right now. obviously everyone had expectations for him going into week one, start out first drive. I think it might've been the first drive. Ethos interception. Yeah.
11:35Shannon Sharpe:Yes. That does something to you. I don't care what anybody says that does something to you, especially with all the noise that's going on the outside. And the one thing that he does need, and whoever's calling the plays has to understand, I got to get Deshaun in a rhythm in these games. Short, short, you know, whether, whether it's some short, something in the flat or a quick slant or a quick out.
11:58Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, Ocho. Tell him he threw a pick on a dig, Ocho. Damn, how much shorter you want? We didn't throw a go ball. We didn't throw a post. We didn't throw a deep over. Hell, we threw a dig. And he got that pick. Yeah. Tell the chat why he got it picked, Ocho. He stared him down. He stared him down the whole way. Hell, I knew he was going to him. You hear me? I think, yeah, yeah. Ocho, I think, you know, Deshaun is going to have to improvise a little bit back there playing the quarterback. it ain't going to be, you know, everything going to be black and white, bro. He's going to have to figure some things out back there.
12:30Chad Johnson:You know what I mean? And I think, and that's making plays outside the pocket, you know, on the run, whatever the case may be. But he got to do whatever he can, bro. Just to, I don't even think he necessarily got to win the game, but he got to play better. Yes. Well, they can't win if he doesn't play well. They're not good enough at other positions, Ocho, Joe, to overcome his inability to play well. Yeah. That's what I'm saying.
12:56Shannon Sharpe:And defensively, we saw they got it handed to them, and that was the first game of the season, aberration. We chalk it up. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say the defense will play better. But if you look at them, overall, offensively, they're not talented enough. Ocho, you like to say the term instead of like quarterbacks normally raises everybody's level of play around them, but they're not talented enough to do that. Now, they had a JSN. They had a Chase. They had a Trey McBride and they had loaded on the offensive line where they got a big Trent Williams and they got Quentin Nelson and they got guys like that.
13:30They got a Creed Humphrey. Okay He can play like he's been playing and there are enough talent around him. You got Derrick Henry Or you got you know, you got B. John Robinson or Jameer Gibbs to elevate. Okay. Now I can say, you know what Ocho He ain't got to play great. No He doesn't have that. No. And if he doesn't have that, he has to play well. But the problem is, Ocho, you said it does something to you. Go talk to any quarterback that's worth anything and ask him, when you throw an interception, do you shy away? They're going to tell you, hell no. Dan Marino told me, say, look, hell, if I throw two or three, I'm going to keep throwing.
14:08Might as well end up with five. Because if I throw two or three early and I don't got four or five, that means I shied away from trying to push the ball down the field. which gives our team no chance to win the game.
14:19Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. Hey, Ocho, and a lot of people, it does. It does something to you when you make a mistake early in the game. It does something. You have to be a strong individual. You and I caught the ball for a living. We dropped that first pass, it's like, God dang it. Now all of a sudden it goes through your mind. Do I catch it like this? Do I catch it like this? Do I catch it like this? Am I body catching? It does. I used to hate that, yeah. But you know what, Ocho? I gotta remember, hey man, look here. You the highest paid player at your position. Hello. For a reason. Hello. Ain't nobody trying to hit him a damn excuse.
14:54The ball beats you up. Go back to your technique, the fundamentals. Hey, give me another, hey, my bad, that's on me, John. I got you.
15:00Chad Johnson:Yeah. Come back to me. I ain't sulking about it. Yes, I'm disappointed in myself. Yeah. Because there's a level of expectation, no matter how difficult the catch is. My teammates and the people in the stands expect me to catch, make that play. They expect you to make that play, just like you, Joe. no matter what the situation, like, damn, y 'all expect me to make every last second shot? Yep, that's what they expect. Because we've seen you make it so many times before. You damn right we expect you to make it. And even in games, Ocho, when you start off, you may start off the game in basketball, you may start off, you don't miss your first three, four shots.
15:36Chad Johnson:Hell, you got to keep shooting. If you him, if you him a thief, you got to keep shooting, bro. You hear me? So at the end of the game, I may have already done went four for 17. Ain't got no rhythm. Can't hit Nathaniel. You hear me? Hey, hey, hey, we dropped that last second shot. Guess who it's going to? It's going to your boy now.
15:53Shannon Sharpe:Exactly. As it's supposed to.
15:54Chad Johnson:Yes, sir. It's going to your boy. And I got to come through and deliver. That's just part of it. That's how it is, bro. You got to do it.
16:02Shannon Sharpe:Go ahead. Go ahead, Joe. Finish.
16:03Chad Johnson:And I relish and cherish those moments, bro, because it's been many nights. and a lot of them game winners that I hit, okay, Ocho, to where I ain't have a great rhythm, bro. It was like, it was some dull moments. You know what I mean? But at the biggest moments, you know, your boy came through. Can I ask y 'all a question? Yeah. At making damn near$50 million a year, what should I expectations be? I just, I'm authority y 'all guys. I just want to put, I just want to put that out there in the universe. Tell me what should be expectation from the fans. What should be expectation of your teammates?
16:33What should be expectation of your coaches? What should it be? Well, you know what? It all starts with you. If you're making$50 million, your play should reflect what you're making. You should expect that from yourself, right? You expected it. Were you surprised when you caught for 125 and two touchdowns? Were you surprised? No. You expected it, right? Take the money off the table. Take the money off the table. Okay. Not making$50 million. I'm still expecting to make those plays when the ball comes. Wait. Whether I'm the third string, the second string, or first string. You in the NFL. You have a job to do.
17:07You're paid to do a job. Now, some people make much more money than others that are expected to do it at a higher frequency and a little bit more consistent. That's all it comes down to. Yes, but the fact of the matter is, Ocho, the more you make, the greater expectation. You think the janitor have the same level of expectation as the CEO? No. Absolutely not. There's a reason why. You think Green, the rookie, has the same level of expectation is Deshaun Watson when he's a first-year guy and Deshaun Watson is a multiple-year guy making that kind of money. It just is. People say money should... But it does.
17:44Yes, sir. Because guess what? He got paid based on what he did because of the expectations that he met. Now all of a sudden he's making the money. We've got to take the money off the table because of the expectations? Absolutely not. He shouldn't want it to be. He should say, I relish the opportunity to go out there and play well because I still believe that I can play well. I haven't shown you my best yet, but I believe the best is yet to come. We're going to keep plugging. I'm going to keep plugging. I'm going to do my part. I worry about it. I know the defense is going to get their act together, but the last thing can happen is everybody get their act together, and I ain't got mine together.
18:18See, I don't talk about anybody else's house when I know I left dishes in the sink. You see what I'm doing, Ocho?
18:23Chad Johnson:You see what I'm talking about, Joe? I can't do that. Yeah, yeah. Hey, I see you. I was a bar. Okay. Hey, my expectations for Deshaun, bro. I expect to see, you know, a game or two from like Lamar had this week. This weekend. Okay, Ocho. Can I expect something like that from Deshaun? From, you know, hell, look at Jacoby Brissette. We can't expect Jacoby Brissette. We asking too much to get Jacoby Brissette, Ocho? But hold on. And that's the – I don't mean that as a slight. But I'm saying here's a guy that's making$15 million, plus some incentives for every game that he wins. You mean to tell me a guy that's making damn near$50 million, we should have no expectations?
Read the full transcript
19:07But hold on. Also, notice how you said Lamar Jackson. Notice how someone said Josh Allen, right? Yeah. Jacoby Rissett, Mike Wilson, Marvis and Harrison Jr., they showing up for him.
19:21Chad Johnson:Yeah. Lamar Jackson, did you see Zay Flowers in the first half? Zay had 150 and two TDs, if I'm not mistaken, in the first half.
19:29Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, right, yeah. Josh Allen, DJ Moore going crazy. You know, Josh doing what he does. Yeah. That's why I keep saying when it comes to Deshaun Watson, the fact that he's not the kind of quarterback anymore that can raise a level of play with those around him, that those that are around him have to play well. Yes. Have to be in the right place. When they call them routes, you got to be at your depth. You got to be – everything has to be perfect until he gets himself in a comfortable position where he's confident enough to play off script and do things that you can't teach and you can't coach. He's not there right now.
20:05Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey. Well, damn, what'd he go get? So what I got to do? I get my eyes beat out in the meantime until he get there? Hey, I'm just telling you. Joe, what are we supposed to do, Joe?
20:18Chad Johnson:That's what I'm asking. I'm like, well, Joe, it's about time for him to pull that rabbit out of the hat now. You hear me? Hey, Joe, listen. He can put the rabbit all he want But if he ain't got no crowd If he ain't got no crowd to entertain The crowd is obviously supporting cast In this scenario Hey Fanning, Concepcion, Boston, Judy Man them boys got to be Man playing Hey Ocho it ain't like he ain't got no weapons You see what you did? Ocho Joe you see what he did? You see he's asking more from his surrounding cast Than he's asking from Deshaun You see what you just did Ocho? You said I need Concepcion, I need Fanning I need Judy I need all these guys.
20:56Yeah. What do we need from Deshaun? To play well. To play well. Is that asking? Chad, forgive me. If I'm asking too much, Chad, forgive me. You're not. You're not. You're not asking too much. But I'm just saying, if you know, listen, if you got a herd of buffalo, right, Joe?
21:14Shannon Sharpe:Yes. And one, the buffalo hurt. Yeah. If you leave that buffalo behind, what's going to happen to him? He going to get what? He going to get ate up. He gonna get his ass beat up. Yeah. I need all y 'all that surround that buffalo that's her and go ahead and hold her together. I can only state that, if you look at any animal, they might, but they gotta keep moving because they gotta keep eating and they gotta keep drinking water. I can't stay here with you and die. We all can't die. Cause we got a herd. We got a herd. If you go back and look at animals, They absolutely will do exactly what you said.
21:54But after a while, they'll come to the realization. This is a lost cause. This is what they call nature. Yeah, yeah. Got to go. Watch it.
22:03Chad Johnson:Got to go. They not waiting. That's why they pray on the weak and the in the in the in the in the. And oh, the elderly. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:15Shannon Sharpe:That's that's why people are so that's why we get so up in arms. when people prey on the weak and the elderly because those are the defenseless ones. Yep. It comes a time, just look at, y 'all, I don't know how many of y 'all are old enough, but watch Nat Geo and watch how animals get, they get sick and all the animals, like they come to the realization he's sick. There's nothing else we can do for him or her. And they just start moseying on. And he might try to get up, he or she might try to get up, but he realized this is where it ends for me. I've had a great three year, four years whether a black mama bit it or he got injured in a hunt.
22:57It realizes I'm going as far as I can go. Guess what I'm going to do? I'm going to go over here in the plains. I'm going to go over here in the grass. I'm going to bow my head and I'm going to die like a proud animal than what I am. That's it. I tell you what. If they don't win this damn game against Tampa Bay, if he doesn't play well against Tampa Bay, he going to be laying out there in that grass that you're talking about. You hear me?
23:24Chad Johnson:They're sparkling. Hey, hold on. Ocho, Ocho, hold on. I'm saying, even if he play well, no turnovers, right? Let's say he have no turnovers, Uncle Ocho, but he plays well and they still lose the game. You still telling me they got to go with a different... You know what? I like that scenario, Joe. I like that scenario. I think he plays well, Uncle Joe. if he plays well and they have a fighting chance and just happen to lose, I think they still stick with him. I still think they – but listen, that Tampa Bay defense, boy.
23:57Shannon Sharpe:Me personally, I think they give him at least to the quarter pole. You think so? But I tell you what, I know y 'all ain't there. I don't know. Joe, I know you from the country. You know when you look up there and you see those buzzers, you see them circling, you don't know where and you don't know what. All I know is they circling. Yeah. They circling in Cleveland.
24:18Chad Johnson:Yeah.
24:24Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, I grew up in the South where they had an old washing machine on the back that had the ringer. It would ring the tub, and then you pull them through to wrestle.
24:31Chad Johnson:Yeah.
24:32Shannon Sharpe:We had an old cat one day. He was sitting up there, and his tail got caught in the ringer. He talking about it won't be long now. I didn't know what he was talking about. His tail wouldn't be long anymore or it wouldn't be long for it all be over with now. What you think he meant Hey, I'm telling the shot. You like this here. It won't be long if you don't play well I'm nervous boy. Yeah, I'm nervous like a like a long tail dog on a porch full of rocking chairs You know they be rocking you got a long tail. Hey, you know what's gonna happen. Yeah, it's just a matter of time Yeah, hey think about this If you nervous form right how you think he feel and he won the guy to play
25:13That's why I'm nervous. Oh, Joe, I didn't get nervous. Yeah, you know why cuz I can control the way I play You control the way you play Joker plan He could he could he could do something about the way he played we can't I won't Deshaun to succeed But I can't do anything for him. I can't pour my confidence in him. I've never lost confidence. You can take a lot of things away from me. You can't take this talent because you can't give it to me. You can't take something that you didn't give me. They didn't give me this ability to play. They didn't give me this ability to run. They didn't give me this ability to think.
25:52Take everything you want to strip me down to the bare bones. But you can't take what's inside of me because you didn't give it to me. You can't take anything you didn't give. Hello. Hello.
26:05Chad Johnson:That's all. Hey, hey, hey, Ocho. And - Oh, damn. Damn, Joe, boy, you got, Joe, you got ghosts over there? Damn. And the work - Hey, hey, hey, a little paranormal activity over there, boy. Hey, hey, hey. And the work, and the confidence should come from the work that you put in. Yes! Yeah, it should come from the work you put in. You should, you know, at this stage, your age, your career, Uncle Ocho, you grown, bro. We're professionals. This is what we do. This is why they pay you the big bucks. You got to put the work in, bro. You got to come confident. What you mean talking about something until he gains confidence?
26:43Chad Johnson:Come on, man. Hey, but Joe, you know that's what it takes, Joe. When you're not playing well, the first thing to go when you're not playing well is your confidence. Joe, and the reason I keep saying that too, Uncle Joe, is when I drop a ball, well, I lose some of my confidence. as arrogant as cocky as I was when I was playing but when I drop a ball it does something to me and my officer coordinator Marvin Lewis and Carson Palmer knew we got to get him a touch early it could have smoke route it could have been something quick it could have been a reverse just let me feel the ball Joe once I get that the feeling that touch of that ball one more time that confidence just clicks in I don't know it's a mental thing yeah I don't know why I was like that I don't you might have been different but it bothered me a little bit because my expectations that I had for myself.
27:29Joe, I'm talking about, Joe, I felt like shit, Joe. I drop it, and you hit a whole crowd, say, aw, damn.
27:39Chad Johnson:Hey, next play. You got to keep it moving, Ojo, because once you sit there and get that bad body language, now the whole stadium know you, hey, man, next play. You know, especially in hoops, bro. You know, you missed three, four, five shots in a row. Hell, I'm going to make the next one. I ain't tripping. The thing with basketball, Joe, it's only five of y 'all on the court and most of the time the ball moves around and the one who's shooting who has the opportunity to miss has a green light and much more opportunities than i do yeah you know joe i think i don't even know what the most catch game i've ever had is joe i ain't getting up but maybe four five play passes the game joe oh joe i done been in that position too partner i'm talking about to where i come in the game ocho and i and i know i ain't gonna get no more than about seven shots a game five or seven shots a night boy i gotta make sure i hit at least four of them.
28:26Chad Johnson:You're in my line. I'm trying to make sure they good shots and I'm trying to keep it comfortable because I know I just got to work hard, play hard on defense and I know that ball ain't going to find me but about seven times for real. You know what I mean? So with that, and you know and understand that, your workout is different, bro. When you get there, I'm trying to get to it quick because if I can get some easy ones early, hell late, you never know, man.
28:51Shannon Sharpe:You see the difference is, Ocho, the way I looked at it, when I dropped the pass, that drop was on me. It ain't in me. That ain't who I am. That's just what I did. You see, confidence. See, confidence shouldn't be on you. It should be in you. From the work that you put in. You know what pressure is? People say pressure. Pressure is what you feel when you don't know what the hell you're doing and you don't know if you can do it. Hello. Huh?
29:15Chad Johnson:Hello. Where did you come from? Yeah. Think about where you came from to where you got. That's pressure. Catching a damn football and making a basketball ain't no damn pressure. Getting out of the impoverished environments that we lifted our family out of, that is pressure. Because if we don't change it, who's going to? Nobody. That's pressure. When you don't know where your next meal coming from, that's pressure. When your grandma making$197 every two weeks, she's making less than$400 a month. and you got two aunts at home and you got your brother, your sister, your grandma and my sister, my nephew.
29:56That's pressure.
29:57Chad Johnson:Yeah. I never felt pressure. My pressure was to get my grandmother out of that environment. My pressure was to make a better way for my family. Not so they didn't have to work, but I wanted my family. I knew there was something better for Shannon Sharp outside of Glenville. Deshaun's got to believe that. Deshaun left Gainesville, Georgia, went to Clemson, went to two national championships, won one, and was an MVP, a ballgame MVP. He's an all pro – Deshaun is better than this. I don't want to hear all these excuses, what their expectations are. You should expect it from yourself. You can't expect more from Shannon Sharp than Shannon Sharp expect from his damn self.
30:37I promise you. So damn the media what they expect. What do you expect from you? Man, they need to stop using all this media, man. Man, you notice everything is the media. The media want me to throw for five touchdowns and 400 yards. What do you want to throw for? What do you want to do? You got no expectations for yourself? Find a way. Make a way.
31:08See, they, they, this, Ocho, see, now you see why I can't coach. Now you see why I, me, I can't play this time. Hold on, hold on. See, you got to understand. you you always say now you see why you can't coach but but imagine if you were coaching they'll know hey deshaun watson's words that may be different if he heard what you just said
31:27Chad Johnson:if he said that to him like you know say that in front of the team i see what you're saying ocho i know he got it in him i know he got it in him too no hey you can pull some out of players that nobody else could there you go i can only pull out what you got in oh it's in there sometimes I can only pull out what you got in you, Joe. You hear me? See, I can only push. See, the thing is, with a coach, he's supposed to be able to be able to push a player and get more out of a player than what he think he has in him. I don't know if these guys got it in him because that ain't how they talk. Yeah. What did my homeboy tell you?
31:59That Prairie View, that was my roommate. He said he always talked like this. Y 'all think I just talked like this yesterday or the day before. He said in 1990 when he first got there as a seventh-round draft pick, the way you hear him talk now is the way he talked back then.
32:12Chad Johnson:He ain't lying. I asked him, I asked him. I said, man, this dude been talking like this back then. He said, man, this dude don't shut up. He been talking like this.
32:22Yeah. You got to believe, Ocho, you got to believe. If you don't believe in Ocho, who believed in Ocho? You say your teachers didn't. You say some of the people in Liberty City didn't. Ocho believed in Ocho. Even when he got kicked out of Langston University, he didn't give up. He went to Sambo, went to, had to go to JUCO. He didn't give up. He went to Oregon State and had an apple and read a comic book on the Greyhound bus, and guess what? Ended up in Cincinnati, the all-time lead receiver in Bengals history, in the ring of fame, small bowler, all pro, all those things. Now, how many people in Liberty City believe that was possible for you?
32:59There's only one person. When everybody told me I couldn't, the one person that told me I could was me. I believed him because I was with him. Y 'all ain't with me. Yeah.
33:08Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Everybody got an opinion on what they think you did to get to where you got to. How many was there with you? All the people that had an opinion about you, Ocho, when Ocho from the ages of four until Ocho was 22, how many of them people was with you at night? None of them. Just grandma, that's it. Exactly. How many would you, Joe, you and your mom? That's what it was. That's it. Now everybody want to tell you who they think you are, what you think they think you should be. Nah, I ain't finna listen to you now. Yeah, hello. Because when I needed advice and when I needed something, you were nowhere to be found.
33:51Chad Johnson:There you go. That's a good one now. That's all I'm saying, Deshaun.
33:59Shannon Sharpe:You better than this. I know you better than this. but there's only so there i can only pull you so far and and and the passage said when you saw those when things were at the roughest and you only saw one foot and the same one set of footprints i said well what you you thought that was you i was carrying your black ass you had been stopped
34:22Chad Johnson:and sat down i picked you up yeah he said when things were going good i saw two sets of footprints But when things were going bad, I only saw one. He said mm-hmm, that's because I was carrying you. That other set of footprint was gone because you was riding. I like that. Yeah. Well, hey, y 'all got ready for sure I started today. That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. That's what they want to hear, boy. Yeah, I like when you go out like that. Hey, Joe, and this is exactly why you need to be coaching because hey, listen, the players need to hear this. The coaches don't talk like this.
34:55You hear me?
34:55Chad Johnson:None of the coaches talk like this. I know you can put down a mean speech before a game, bro. I already know. Can you imagine? I already know. Why being so hype ready to go? Come on, man. Wait, I'd be ready to put my cleats on, Joe. Man, come on. Man, they need to. Former Houston Texans great Andre Johnson spoke about the one thing he likes about
35:17Shannon Sharpe:dislike, excuse me, dislike about CJ Stroud. Let's take a listen to what Dre had to say. When you're teeing off and your clients are watching, it's on. With him, and this is just me personally, what I dislike about CJ, I dislike his body language.
39:03Shannon Sharpe:Like, his body language is bad. like anytime something happens it's like I don't know like I think as a me me and a former player your quarterback having that type of body language is bad because it because other guys look at you as the quarterbacks when they see you and they see you feeling a certain way or your body language a certain way, it kind of trickles through the team. Guys, what do you think? This is how CJ responded. I respect Dre as a person. I appreciate his critiques, but I'm focused on this week. Joe, I'm kicking you first. You agree with Andre's call out of CJ?
39:56Chad Johnson:Yeah, I agree, Ocho. I'm going to tell you why. because body language, no matter what sports you're playing, bro, it's a telltale. It's clearly letting everybody know how you feel, your opponent, the fans. I've always been the type to try and be even keel. I don't want you to know if I'm too high, feeling too good, or if I don't really got it going and I'm like, damn, tonight ain't tonight. You know what I mean? I try and stay even keel. But I understand what Andre Johnson is saying. Man, your quarterback, he determines so much of the game, and if he exudes bad energy and all that, come on, man.
40:34Chad Johnson:Y 'all know that's infectious, bro. It's infectious throughout the team, throughout the offense. So I'm with Dre on this one, bro. Ocho? I mean, I kind of like it in a sense a little bit. I don't like the infectious part because regardless of how my quarterback is feeling, regardless of his body language, I still, me personally, I still got a job to do because that, that, the eye in the sky, it don't, it don't lie, Joe. Die in the sky. It don't lie. Now, what I don't like is, this is the same conversation we had about the way players should answer questions. Comparison, the way Cam Ward answers and the Fernando Mendoza, like everybody operates in different manners.
41:13Everyone reacts in different manners when some goes well or when some goes bad. I do agree with Dre in a sense that obviously he just shows some type be emotion another quarterback that showed no emotion he was always one way whether it's a good play or bad play hey remember jay cutler yeah did jay color show any emotion whether no bad his face was always the same way his body language was always the same way i think jay and cj stroud might be the only two i can think of that don't show any emotion whether it's a good play or a bad play maybe it's something he could work on but what he does and what he shows right now is how he's always been how he's always been he's always been like this you know it's not like he just started not showing emotion once he got to the nfl so i think for him to try to change that now it would be somewhat performative and it would probably be someone that he's not you know just appease those to make it look like he cares but um i agree with him in a sense i don't like the part that it can affect everybody else because everybody else ain't worried about what my quarterback looks like hell i got a goddamn job to do but that's pretty much it i i agree
42:21Shannon Sharpe:I think like look things are gonna go wrong during the course of a ball game and you can be disappointed But what I can't do is let it linger. I can't let it fester Right. Yeah, because a lot of times you see and that seemed like what Dre is saying that I don't want to speak for Drake Because Dre I think you know said it, you know The greatest the demographic of people that are the greatest body language communicator are black people. It's been studied We can read body language better than any race of people. Absolutely there's something to what Dre is saying he's saying I'm not saying that you shouldn't be disappointed when you make a mistake but I'm saying I think you let it fester I think you let it last too long and it bleeds into the next play on to the next play yeah yeah you started early I'm tripping Eli Manning yes Eli you get nothing nothing Let me think about receivers because you know all of them.
43:19But see the problem is what you're saying now with Eli, Eli had no emotion. You see CJ get highs and lows.
43:27Chad Johnson:Yeah. Right, right, right. You see? He thought.
43:31I mean he coming up there. He coming up that same thing. He throwing touchdown. I thought he was Ocho in the thing.
43:39Chad Johnson:Hey, hey. Now all of a sudden he throwing a pick and he fumbled. Yeah, yeah. There you go. Yeah.
43:46Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah, it's the ebbs and the flow. This is right. Extremely high and the low low. I'm not saying you should not be disappointed, but you got to be even you've got to be an even keel You can't get too high when things go good. You can't get too low when things go bad, right? Yes I'm not saying you shouldn't celebrate. I'm not saying you shouldn't be disappointed when things go bad All I am saying is that you if you let it fester, oh, Joe, we got what we call leaders on the team. Yes, sir. You were a leader your leadership style is Ocho is fun going. Yeah, yeah. Ocho is outgoing personality.
44:21He ain't going to let nothing evil, except that one time in the locker room that you got upset that, you know, you were letting the Steelers. That was the first time that they had ever seen you. It overflowed like it did. Oh, yeah. And it shocks the people like, man, this ain't the Ocho I know. Man, what happened to Ocho? Cracking jokes. They're having a good time, funny. It was no laughing matter then. Nah. that's an isolated incident
44:44Shannon Sharpe:but you've heard other people say that his body language is not what it needs to be a lot of the time look you're absolutely right everybody can't be a certain yeah you like Peyton Manning got upset when he threw a pig Tom Brady but they ain't send him in no damn shell it's a part of the game look unless you Aaron Rodgers when he was in his absolute prime and he's playing 16 games and throwing five interceptions unless you got to having that type of season right you're probably throwing double digits yeah and you know what you know what the issue is too uncle joe what's that he hasn't played he hasn't played well and now everything is magnified yep everything is magnified now so they're they're finding every little thing to nitpick and maybe not nick he did that to himself oh cho by having that great rookie season yeah so What's the thing?
45:39Ocho, if you go out there, and let's just say your rookie year, you catch 85 balls, 1 ,350 yards, and 12 touchdowns, what do you think the expectation is going to be moving forward? Do the same thing the following year of battle? Prime example, Randy Moss. When Randy Moss came out of his rookie year and had 17 touchdowns, what were the expectations moving forward? Not only were they up here, he exceeded them. Yeah. CJ did this to himself. You could have stunk it up. We wouldn't have had no expectations. And then if you play bad like you did in the postseason last year, we'd have talked it up. Said, hey, this is what – but no, you set the bar here.
46:21Chad Johnson:Yeah. Once you set the bar here, we ask you to continually clear that bar. Yep. And it becomes expectation. And that's what we expect to see week in and week out. Same thing with LeBron. We talk about his greatness. Yes. It doesn't matter how many damn years he's been in the NBA. Every team that he goes to, they expect it to win.
46:43Shannon Sharpe:They do.
46:44Chad Johnson:Period. Look at the odds. Look at what clearly odds went to. When LeBron joined the team, look at what they were. This is what y 'all expect from a 42. You're damn right. He shouldn't be so great. Ain't nobody tell his ass to be this great this damn long. That's just the way it is. When you set a level of greatness for yourself, that's the level of expectation. That's why when a guy does a song, man, this album no hit like that first one. Hello. Well, you shouldn't have sold 10 million damn copies. You should have sold 300 ,000. And then nobody wouldn't have been saying the second album don't sound bad.
47:23Chad Johnson:Right, right. But when you sell 10 million copies, you sell 15 million copies. Look at him. If you Eminem, he ain't have no choice. You can't come out there that hard and then, man so your one hit wonder yeah Milly Vanilly Ice Ice baby yeah damn I just hate the fact now when something like this gets out now you gotta think he's been this way all his life now when things don't go well he has to pretend and have to you know he has to be performative and act as if oh damn and be you know and just I don't know it's weird but I kinda get it you know what cure is this too on what's that going out there and winning hello you know what's unfortunate the fact that we're having this conversation about his mannerisms and acting like he doesn't care is the fact that he has to he got to play the goddamn bangle sunday you hear me and he's not finna win so we're gonna be having this conversation again come sunday because we going into houston and nrd stadium or feel whatever it's called and we putting bta and that goes for all my Houston fans in the chat I'll be sitting in the stands behind the bench we can argue all game and if you come over there make sure you bring me a hot dog hey them boys they're coming off a loss now I know they ain't they ain't finna they ain't
48:49Shannon Sharpe:hey they ain't finna come home and nah and the offense really even even with the two turnovers the offense didn't play bad the defense allowed a 96 yard game winning drive we saw the defense give up 36 points. We saw Josh Allen had two touchdown passes, two touchdown rushing against the number one, number two defense last year. That's who should be disappointed. That's who's going to be pissed off, Ocho. Hey, can I tell you something? Yeah. Didn't I see Nico Collins on the injury report? I don't know. I didn't see that today, Ocho. I've been busy trying to get some stuff together. He on the injury report?
49:20Shannon Sharpe:I could have
49:21Chad Johnson:swore I saw somebody. Somebody with a little hamstring or something. He ain't practicing. Damn, I'm glad you said that, boy. I got to check my fantasy. I got to make sure I get him on the bench. Hell, Oh, you got Nico? Yeah. See, hamstring, uh-oh. Yeah, I gotta get him out of there. Hey, Tank there, Tank there, don't come back to what, week four, right? Damn, I didn't know that, boy. Hey, Joe, you was real confident talking about they just came off a loss, they gonna beat us. Yeah, I think, hey, CJ gonna have to show us something, Ocho. He gonna have to - Hey, show you what? He gonna have to show you next week.
49:56Chad Johnson:Not this one. And he at home. He at home, Ocho. You think he finna let somebody come on this front porch, knock on his door, talk about less fighting. He gonna go out there and lose? That man ain't finna lose? I'm gonna tell you something right now, and this goes for everybody in the chat. If you got common sense, listen, Jamar Chase had two catches for 12 yards last week. Jamar Chase makes 40, 41 million, right? Something like that? Yep, 40 and a half. What you think they finna do to that young bull out there in Houston? where they gonna have Stingley and Lasseter playing man to man. What you think they finna do Jamar?
50:30Chad Johnson:Ocho, Ocho. Do he want - They gon' feed him like he's 12 years a slave, what? Ocho, Ocho, Ocho. Do he wanna win or do he want the stats? Which one he want? You can't have, he probably ain't gonna be the half of them. He might have two touchdowns for 150 with the L. That's all I'm saying. No, no, no, that's not gonna happen. That's not gonna happen. Don't A. L, no, no, L. No, L must stand for LSU. L must stand for Louisiana. That's the only L you talking about. I'm telling you what's going to happen. This is the way the flow of the game goes. This is the way a team, when a player of that magnitude, makes that kind of money and he has an off game, they don't play that next game.
51:07They will not allow that to happen the following game. For one, he already missed.
51:12Chad Johnson:Well, listen, can I say something? If I'm a team just come off the road and I got my home opener, and I lost on the road and I come home in my home, boy, listen. Do you know I'm going to do everything I can for us to get this dub? Y 'all ain't going to come in here and show out on our field. We ain't having that, Ocho. I'm sorry. I know what you want. But, boy, we ain't having that. We're going to get down. Hey, Joe, can I say something? Go ahead. Every time Joe go against me and what I'm saying, do you realize I win every single time? Am I always right? Every time, Joe. And you're doing it again.
51:47Like, when you're going to disagree with me and be like, you know what, Ocho, you're right, because every time I go against what you're saying, for some reason I always have been losing.
51:55Chad Johnson:No, I ain't going with you this way. I'm sorry. Hold on. Okay. So you saying that the Texans are going to beat us Sunday. That's why I want to hear you say that. Yeah, I got the Texans beating you. If I'm a betting man, I'm going to bet the Texans is going to... I might use prize pick. I might even make a couple bets this weekend. You know what?
52:17Shannon Sharpe:You got to bet more or less.
52:19Chad Johnson:Yeah. I got to use It's Cole Shannon?
52:23Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
52:24Chad Johnson:All right, bet. I got you.
52:25Shannon Sharpe:Hey, but hold on. The thing is, though, Joe, is that if the Texans lose, they would have lost two games at home to start the season. Oh, yeah. Two games. Hold on. Another thing. Two AFC games. Now, we're making the playoffs. You don't win your division. Now it comes head-to-head, conference record.
52:49Chad Johnson:Hey, hey. I don't know if he's listening, but CJ, CJ Stroud, if you listening, hey, boy, you better go out there and do your one-two. You hear me? Yes, sir. Hey, he can do his one-two. But Burrow and Chase, they're going to do the three-fourth. Oh, yeah? Huh? Huh? All right. I'm T.T., man. Don't go against me when I tell you something, man. Golly. You did the same thing with the NBA playoffs. Let it go. Let it go. Let it go. You started talking about old stuff. You bring old stuff. We in a new, come on, man. You got to chill. I got a question, Joe. What's up? Was the Cowboys game last week against the Giants, was that old too?
53:26Chad Johnson:No, it ain't that old, but you know. What are you going? We got a little fork in the road, you know. Had a little mishap. It happened. Yeah, we ain't going to go 16 and 0.
53:40Shannon Sharpe:But the fact of the matter, Ocho, you know he's trying to get 70 million. He just put pressure on himself. He could have took that 55 to 58 million and moved him on about his business.
53:49Chad Johnson:not good right right right hold on uh he probably he probably he probably think like hell i can get that 50 me i can get that even if we have a you know a not so good year you know i'm hey i'm i'm swinging for the fences man hey yeah i got something go ahead go ahead i got some of my teeth y 'all ain't even tell me man man ain't nobody can see from way back there man what the hell you think i got oh man man yeah yeah ain't nothing but a little little little public from my cigar yeah you you oh man oh man listen he ain't say pupa he said public no you i i i meant to say that but they know what type of hair it was it was my um my cigar a little cigar leaf yeah that what it was yeah yeah yeah so they say yeah hey my baby my baby noticed the way watching from way in boston man and y 'all y 'all ain't even tell me nothing i ain't see it i ain't neither i appreciate that man appreciate that ain't all in your grill like that bro dang yeah i ain't come on she's supposed to be in uh uh cambodia supposed to be in there uh watching everything right yeah you know y 'all got me looking crazy talking with stuff all in my teeth man oh man quiet confidence it's not what you see It's what you feel.

58:43Shannon Sharpe:Dak says that the expectations haven't changed and that he's confident the Cowboys will bounce back this week after the first week's loss. Let's take a listen to what Dak had to say. Yeah, I mean, it sucks to lose. Damn sure sucks to lose the first one to this team, a division game, but still optimistic. That doesn't change our goals, doesn't change how we feel about our team. As I said, credit to those guys. They beat us tonight. This is a marathon, though. It's a long season. And we're going to respond. We've got great leaders. And I feel confident in just even the message and the feel in the locker room after that.
59:17Yeah, guys are pissed off. Nobody's more disappointed than the players in that locker room and the coaches and everybody that put this game plan together and attempted to go out there and execute it and failed to do so. And as I said, credit to those guys. They'll have to see us again. And we've got to turn the page and got another division game next week at home.
59:35Shannon Sharpe:What do you think, Joe? You share that confidence?
59:38Chad Johnson:Sounds like the leader to me. Okay, Ocho. You know, I want a guy like that lead my team. Listen, listen. We squandered game one away on the road. You know, very disappointing. But we got to get back to the drawing board, Uncle Ocho, because we got a game next week, and we got a team we got to tend to, the Washington Commanders. We can't worry about what happened against the Giants. We got to move forward. That's what you want to hear in your leader and your quarterback, bro. Everybody has to play better, period, point blank. I'm with Dak, man. I'm with the optimism that he's talking about. Hey, man, come on.
1:00:10Chad Johnson:We got to get back to the drawing board. We got to get a damn win. That's what we got to do. You do realize y 'all lose this. Y 'all 0-2 in the division. Here you go. Here you go. I guess you got, I guess you brought it up, Joe.
1:00:20Shannon Sharpe:You know what, you right. Yeah. That ain't none of my business. I just know you brought that up.
1:00:24Chad Johnson:Yeah, you ain't supposed to put that off in the air. You supposed to keep the optimism like that guy. Like, you know, y 'all ain't gonna go, oh, y 'all ain't gonna go on two. That ain't my team. Oh, here he go. See what I'm saying? And then you know if y 'all go on two, there's a 75 % chance y 'all go on three. Cause we got, cause we got the Ravens. We got the flock.
1:00:44Hey, I ain't, I ain't even, I ain't even, hey what i said i said they might go what i said they might go on what yeah i thought i thought they'd be two and six in the first six weeks of the season two and six that's what i see i said
1:00:57Chad Johnson:only six but joe optimistic man y 'all got that yeah that optimistic so yes i'm i do have some optimism yes i do we're gonna get this thing right all right boy hey look look check it y 'all look the guy got a win boy y 'all feeling good it's just week one it's just week one okay you know what and you probably gonna say it's just week two next sunday too i'm just my joke joe i just you be boasting and you keep boasting each of my optimism all the words in front of the press in front of the camera they ain't got nothing to do when it's time to get up there at one o 'clock on sunday that ain't gonna help yeah what go ahead joe go ahead i'm gonna let your team it It lets your team and your teammates know, Ocho, that the guy that you got at the helm, yeah, he going to be ready.
1:01:44Chad Johnson:I'm going to do my part. I'm going to be a better quarterback next weekend, this weekend coming up. Yeah, we going to be a better team. We're going to get a win. But he was ready. He's been ready since training camp. He's been ready since OTA.
1:01:57Shannon Sharpe:Come on, man. He's been ready since the preseason. Oh. And they got the Giants. They lost to the Giants. Now they got the commanders coming in. They got Baltimore and Rio. Then they're at Houston. Tampa at home. On the road against Green Bay. So they play Tampa on a Thursday night. They play Green Bay on a Sunday night. And then they play Philly on a Monday night.
1:02:23Chad Johnson:Y 'all act like we supposed to be scared or something. Hey, ump.
1:02:26Shannon Sharpe:Hey, ump.
1:02:27Chad Johnson:0-6, boy. Man, you gotta chill. You gotta chill. 0-6. You gotta chill. Did you hear that schedule? did you hear that schedule you just ran off boy do you know we them boys what you mean that damn that's but y 'all don't make no noise yeah we are we are gonna make some noise we gonna make some noise yeah we gonna make some noise y 'all make no noise it's been a while since y 'all made some noise joe we gonna make some because we lost one game for week one joe you a little bit joe you a little bitty boy when y 'all last time y 'all made some more no come on uh you steady talking about old stuff man i don't know joe you were 15 joe you got to think about it joe you were 15.
1:03:04Chad Johnson:Oh, can we, we, we in 2026. You ain't even have your ear pierced back then Joe. At 15? Yeah. I had my ears pierced at 15. Now your mom let you get do that. No, my uncle snuck and dug it. She didn't even know. No, my uncle took me and my mama got pissed. She was pissed. See I knew. Boy, them Southern balls don't be pissed. She was pissed. She was pissed. She was pissed. It was pissed. I was doing basketball season too. So, you know, when you first get them done, you ain't supposed to take them out, huh? Right, yeah. Boy, she made me take them out one game, and I never put them back in. But, like, the next year, I went and got them redone again.
1:03:46Chad Johnson:Yeah, you know my mom won't play that. My mom won't play all that. Hey, you got yours done with a gun? Yeah, when you sit there and they put that little gun on there, and they tap.
1:03:54Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. But see, before the gun came out, people were piercing their ears with a needle.
1:04:00Chad Johnson:They just went ice cubes to freeze them all. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My sister did her own ears. My sister did my cousin ears, yeah. Freeze the load with ice cubes and take a sewing needle and stick through it and then take that, had a broom straw back then. I don't know what they put in there now. You put a broom straw or a little piece of string in there. Yeah. Hey, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, I remember back then, I seen people do that. Boy, you gotta be a little gangster to do something like that, boy. You gotta have a little gangster in you. That's how I did mine, Joe. No, you didn't.
1:04:29No, I'm saying, with a needle of ice, I did mine when I was jammed up. What'd you get jammed up for? Hey, you know I did a little time, bro. What, you were trying to, you were slanging?
