In short

Nightcap Hour 1 discusses NFL Week 1 quarterback starters and early-season implications, with debates about Atlanta starting Tua Tagovailoa, Cleveland starting Deshaun Watson, and other teams’ QB decisions. It also covers roster/injury news (Tyler Smith thumb surgery) and a Giants roster move (Darius Slayton release), plus a fantasy-draft segment.

Guests (hosts)

Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson (former Pro Bowler, All-Pro) and Joe “ISO Joe” Johnson (former NBA All-Star; “Mr. Clutch”). Main host is Shannon Sharpe (Nightcap).

Guest backgrounds

Johnsons are former elite pro athletes (NFL and NBA respectively) and speak from a player/competitor perspective on QB play, injuries, and team decisions.

Key claims

  • Falcons naming Tua QB1 is framed as a “prove-it” year; the biggest concern is turnovers and Tua’s injury history.
  • Tua is described as a rhythm/timing “point guard” QB who needs protection and quick decisions against Pittsburgh’s blitz.
  • Deshaun Watson starting in Cleveland is portrayed as a business decision; the “quarterback competition” is questioned.
  • Todd Monken’s weekly captains idea is criticized as unusual.

Notable examples

  • Tua’s 2023 passing production (4,623 yards, 73% completion, 24 passing TDs) contrasted with concussions and difficulty “learning how to fall.”
  • Steelers’ expected blitz pressure.
  • Tyler Smith (Cowboys) thumb surgery: expected 4–6 week absence; earliest return Oct 8 vs Tampa Bay.

8:54Joe Johnson:What happened? Nothing.

8:58Shannon Sharpe:You good? Look, yeah, I ain't good. We got a bunch of a way to draft, a fantasy draft that's going to be taking place midway through the show. All I know is I better pick first. A man that's named us on the title, he damn sure can't be picking last. He can't be picked middle of the pack. He got to pick within the first three picks, Joe, or some bull jive.

9:19Joe Johnson:Why, what's the matter?

9:22Shannon Sharpe:Huh? Hey, hey, I understand where you coming from. I feel like I should get at least a top four, five pick considering the fact that, you know, hell, I ain't play the sport. I should get at least a top five pick. Yeah, I mean.

9:36Joe Johnson:Hey, it don't matter who go first. I know who gonna come out. It do matter who go first. What you mean? Honestly, Joey, it don't matter who go first. Just because you pick first don't mean that guarantees you going to win. Well, give me first pick then.

9:50Shannon Sharpe:Give me first pick. Go ahead and take it. All right. Yeah. So, guys, stick with us until we pick first. Something tells me, I don't know for certain, but something tells me some bull flitters is going to be flying. Why do you say that? Because it's too good to be true. there are forces behind the scenes yeah three letters in a name that she be conspiring against she be in cahoots oh okay I see hold on you be in cahoots with who other people that be in cahoots with her everybody no I don't trust I don't trust Ash let the record show I'm already putting this under protest I am playing this fantasy draft under protest just so we're clear.

10:44Shannon Sharpe:So I don't want there to be no confusion. Well, Shannon, you should have did this or you should have said that before we got halfway through the season or at the end of the season. I'm telling you, I am going to make this draft under protest. I am going to play the entire season under protest. Hopefully, I can have a court system intervene like they did in college football. It gives me restitution.

11:13Shannon Sharpe:It's a bulljive. The Falcons have named Tua the starting week one quarterback against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kevin's head coach, Kevin Stefanski, spoke about the decision saying, I've got the blinders on. So I see week one in front of me, and after that, we'll start on the next week, those type of things. So I don't think it's fair to really go past this week on anything related to our football season.

11:40Shannon Sharpe:Joe, what we got going on? Man, I don't know. This is a proving year for Tua Ocho. You know, Miami moved on from Atlanta, gave him an opportunity. Now he got to go out there and see what he can do, bro. With the weapons that he got, all he got to do is get that ball out quick and do not turn it over, bro. You have way too many weapons, you know, for them not to be explosive offensively. All he got to do is minimize the turnovers. Well, good luck with that because I see a situation where we got an Aaliyah song. Back, back, back and forth. Nah, come on, man. Yeah, watch, watch. Did you talk about Tua is a make-it year?

12:22Shannon Sharpe:I believe this will make-it year for Penix also. I think it's a make-it year for both of those guys. Yeah, yeah.

12:28Joe Johnson:Absolutely.

12:29Shannon Sharpe:Go ahead, Ocho.

12:30Joe Johnson:Hey, you know what, for Tua's sake, I'm glad they have the best running back in the game right now. You know, depending on who you ask, they have the best running back in the game right now. Some people say Jameer Gibbs. Some people say maybe Saquon or maybe Derrick Henry. But the fact that he has B. John Robinson behind him that can take most of the pressure off of him, not having to throw the ball as much as he might have to, I think he's going to be okay. I think he's going to be okay. They're going to be able to scheme plays for him, knowing that Tua is very well when throwing the ball on rhythm and on timing plays.

13:05Joe Johnson:Not too much play action. He doesn't have the strongest of arms, but he's really good. He's really good when it comes to rhythmic playing in the passing game. So I think his security blanket is going to be his tight end. Kyle Pitts. Number eight. Yeah, Kyle Pitts is going to be his security blanket for the season. Drake London is going to get his catches you know as normal but I think he's going to be okay because the safety valve but when it's going to be Kyle Pitts and the running game is going to be so good would be John Robinson back there going to take some of the pressure off of what they're going to ask Tua to do because the running game is so good

13:42Shannon Sharpe:look I think you had weapons I mean hell you had Tyreek for three years you've had Jalen Watter for several years and it's not like his running back that he had in Miami was a He had Devon A-chan.

13:54Joe Johnson:Yeah, exactly. That's why I said, that's why I said, I'll be okay. Well, he wasn't okay in Miami. But yeah, toward the end, toward the back end. Remember, Tyreek and Waddle went crazy for two, three years in a row, if I'm not mistaken. It might've been two or three. That offense -

14:10Shannon Sharpe:And when they needed two to make them plays, that he made it early in the season?

14:15Joe Johnson:Yeah, they couldn't make it in the cold.

14:17Shannon Sharpe:They couldn't make it in the cold. He should be finding the dome then. He got two domes. Yeah. You play in Atlanta and you play in New Orleans, which are domes, and you're in Tampa. The only thing you're going to get is rain. Carolina should be nice. If you don't play them late, they might get a little blustery late in the year, December, January. But for the most part, you should be fine.

14:39Joe Johnson:Yeah, he should be good. The most important thing, Unc and Joe, they got to keep him upright. He has to learn how to fall. He has to learn how to brace when he's getting hit and prevent himself from getting hurt. That's all that comes down. to. Michael Penning Jr. is not healthy right now. I think he, knowing, based on where he's at right now, I think he missed, what, maybe the next four games? So right now... Did they put him on the PUP list?

15:02Shannon Sharpe:They activated him. He returned to practice a week ago. So without them putting him on PUP, I guess he's ready to go. I don't think they really have a choice. I know what Coach Stefanski is trying to say. I don't want to get into this going back and forth every single week. Does Tua look over his shoulder? Something of that nature. but the mere fact that he says all I'm thinking about is week one lets you know that Tua should be looking over his shoulder. That's not how quarterbacks normally approach it. The quarterback, excuse me, the coach, the head coach normally says he's our guy and we're going to ride with him.

15:34Shannon Sharpe:But he talked about week one, I got blinders on. You ain't got no, yeah, you might be got blinders on, but you're not blind. Yeah. Yeah. In other words, you're not looking side to side, but you can see straight ahead. Good thing you can't see what's behind you. That train about to run you over cuz hey I think I think this is a good week one matchup with tour considering the fact that the Steelers aren't you know they finish at the bottom half for the other league statistically last season I'm talking about from past defense so opportunity is gonna be there for tour he just got to be willing to get that ball out quick man don't be indecisive be decisive in what you want to do and, man, let your instincts take over.

16:18Shannon Sharpe:What does Pittsburgh do, Ocho? Blitz. Yeah. They knock the quarterback around. What can Tua Hill-Afford to have happen? Get knocked around. Yeah. Get knocked around. That is his problem. He's not the biggest of guys and he came into the league injured. He's not a fast either. No. He's not a loser. Yeah. He came into the league with a dislocated hip. he's had major injuries when he was at, he had the tightrope surgery on his ankle. He's had numerous surgeries. Supposedly there are surgeries that we don't even know about for what people have been reporting. I don't know if that's true or not, but people have reported it.

16:57Shannon Sharpe:He'd had several surgeries at Alabama that went unreported. Now we do know this. He's been treated for several concussions. Yeah. We've seen him. We saw him get a concussion and they're looking at his foot. I'm like, well, damn, what, he got a blister? How'd the man get hit in his head? He got hit in his head. Don't y 'all know what I'm talking about? He's talking about, no, he had an ankle injury. Ain't nobody touched that man's ankle. But that was just because the severity of the concussions, and the thing is, once you get one and you get them so close together, they become more and more severe.

17:38Shannon Sharpe:He can never afford to have that. I don't know how much. And you look, I'm sure he went to some doctors probably told him that it would probably be best if he didn't continue to play. But when you're that young and you got that much money tied up in it, it's hard to walk away. But at some point in time, what's the risk reward of playing, making money, and then you're not able to enjoy it or remember having it? That's a fine line that we have to walk. It is. And some of us have to make that decision a lot sooner than others. You saw Luke Keekly walk away. He walked away. San Francisco had a linebacker, had 100-plus tackles rookie year, and walked away.

18:23Shannon Sharpe:It's going to be very, very interesting to see how he holds on. Tua led the NFL in passing yards with over 4 ,623. He led the league in completion percentage with 73 % and 24. But the injuries, that's what kind of derailed him. Like I said, he's not the biggest guy. he's not the most elusive guy. And he's dealt with a problem of when he goes down, he doesn't know how to fall. Somehow, no matter how you hit him, his head seems to bang off the turf, Ocho and Joe. And that's not good.

18:54Joe Johnson:You got to tighten up. You got to tighten up. You got to tighten up the body. That's all core strength, huh? When you falling backwards, if you're getting hit, I want to raise up and stay as close to the person tackling me as possible so that whiplash doesn't happen. I don't want it to happen.

19:14Shannon Sharpe:Hey, and the Falcons, they don't need Tua to be a superstar, Uncle Ocho. They need him just to be a point guard, bro. Be a point guard. Hey, hey, just facilitate. Get it to these skilled position guys who are big playmakers. And like I've said before, the only thing that bothers me is the turnovers, bro. If he don't turn the ball over, Atlanta should be all right. He had 15 of those last year. Well, he had 15 interceptions. Probably add a couple of more fumbles in there. That's a lot easier said than done. You would think by now, Ocho, as long as he's played the game, Joe, that he would know how to fall.

19:53Shannon Sharpe:He would know how to fall by now. But clearly he hadn't learned how to fall yet. I think you got to look at it from a standpoint, he's surrounded you know around a a lot better talent now so so i i think i think his decision making should be a lot more decisive versus him not really you know knowing what to do with the ball where to go with the ball i think he got he has so many options that his job shouldn't be complicated this year to me fellas if y 'all you know what i mean when i look at it you think so you think you think the weapons that he have now better than what he had in in miami well you're talking about two three years ago but last year yeah but you realize he had those guys last year until what you call him got hurt tyreek got hurt like week six so he had tyreek he had waddle he had hn he had those guys and uh uh uh he had the tight end that retired i forget his name off the top of my head had the tight end that retired and came out of retirement and played so he had Tua is, maybe with the exception of his rookie year, Tua has never not had, and I hate using never and not, but he's always had weapons.

21:06Shannon Sharpe:Go back and look at Alabama, what he was throwing to. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Go back and look at, and once they traded for Tyreek, they got Waddle, they drafted A-Chan, so it's not like he's gone one year where he didn't have A1 talent, only one year in his NFL career that you can say, you know what, man, he ain't really got a whole lot of weapons. other than that he's been littered with pro bowlers

21:31Joe Johnson:yeah oh Darren Waller yes that's what it was Darren Waller but listen it's really not comparable the receivers that he has right now are a little different who's the number two I know Drake London's the one I don't know because they got rid of

21:47Shannon Sharpe:Mooney left didn't he Mooney with the Giants Mooney's with the Giants and you see the Giants release what you call them we're going to talk about that a little later Slayton

21:54Joe Johnson:Oh yeah, man. Golly, man. I hate seeing people lose their job.

22:00Shannon Sharpe:Who is the number two receiver?

22:02Joe Johnson:I don't know. Hey, Chad, who's the number two in L.A.? Oh, I know one thing. I know who the number three is. I think his name is Zachariah Branch or something like that. The kid out of Georgia? Out of Georgia, yeah.

22:16Shannon Sharpe:Well, he might be number two, Joe. Yeah, you're right. You're right. You're right. Hey, boy, that boy, he can go, boy. that boy got some wheels boy this is dude I like him yeah I like him also they gonna be fun to watch for sure

22:34Shannon Sharpe:let's see who they got here but he might be number two based on Johan Dotson oh from the commanders Zachariah Branch and Chris Blair

22:52Joe Johnson:yeah so yeah drake drake gonna give it drake gonna get a heavy dose hey hey man this city here

22:57Shannon Sharpe:the atl well they waiting they waiting for some action too on gato right i'm talking about now they got they got uh drake london and uh um johan dawson and zakiya's those are the three starters when they go in the three wide set with kyle pierce at the tight end and then when they got They come in with Zachariah Branch, Chris Blair, and Bo Collins. Bo Collins is on IR currently. So, look, they got some weapons. Can the offensive line, can they hold up? They got some nice Chris Lindstrom. Jake Matthews is probably their best offensive lineman, the left tackle.

23:38Shannon Sharpe:But we're going to find – look.

23:45Shannon Sharpe:Miami is paying the bulk of their salary. Yeah. Miami's on the hook for$30 million,$35 million, whatever they're on the hook for. Atlanta's probably paying minimum,$1,$2 million, not a whole lot, not a whole lot. But basically, that Miami money runs out after this year. Atlanta gave you a one-year deal. Yeah. Basically, until you prove it, he's going to have to build the deals. Hey, so look, check this out. So let's say the first month of the season, right? Yes. Who plays well? Do you keep riding with him even if Penix is fully healthy?

24:24Joe Johnson:Hell yeah. Yeah, if he's playing well, absolutely, Joe. If he got the hot hand, you don't take him out? Absolutely. That makes no sense. Especially if he's in rhythm and time with the offense and the offense is responding well? Oh, yeah, you play that out. And I really feel, I really feel that job is, hitting jobs, the quarterback job is never easy. Chad, listen to me. But I really think he's going to play well because of what they asked him to do. It can be really simple. He's a great rhythm and timing quarterback. He throws receivers open. So as long as they're getting open and where they're supposed to be, which Drake London is good at, Zachariah Branch, I just want to make sure I'm not butchering his name, that young bull, hey, he going to get it and get going.

25:06Joe Johnson:You talking about Zacchaeus? Only man Zacchaeus?

25:09Shannon Sharpe:That's the other one. I said it wrong. I'm saying it wrong? No, there's two of them. There's Zachariah Branch. He backs up Drake London. So when they go three wide, when they go, like they say, they're nickel package, they go 11 personnel. Right. So basically, it's going to be London, Zacchaeus, and Johan Dotson.

25:29Joe Johnson:Oh, Johan. Johan Dotson. Yeah, OK, OK, OK, OK, OK. Wait, he the four?

25:33Shannon Sharpe:Branch right now, that's what they got listed on the depth chart.

25:37Joe Johnson:Okay, okay, okay, okay. They got to find a way to use him a little bit more man They should be able to use him in a multitude of ways off it see but that's neither here nor there But I think he's gonna be okay. He's gonna be gonna be okay. He's gonna be okay He's going to be okay.

25:50Shannon Sharpe:I don't think he got much choice in this matter right here. He's gonna have to play really well No, God's gonna have to play well. I mean, I don't look at I don't look at T I don't look at tour as a guy that elevates. I look at guys that elevating him. Yeah, I don't see him I don't look at him as a Josh Allen. Like these top four, five, six quarterbacks, I don't look at Tua like that. I look at guys got to play really, really well. And when they play well, he looks well. But as far as going out there and they're having bad days and him completely making big time plays, I don't look at him as that.

26:23Shannon Sharpe:Because he's not a guy that's elusive. I don't look at him making plays like, oh, shaking people off, getting away from people like Lamar, throwing the ball down the field 35, 40 yards, and making big plays like that. I don't look at him like that. Could he periodically have a play like here or there? Yeah. But he's a guy that he plays his best when he's on script. Yeah. That's a good one. I got to get him off script, don't you? I want him to go play Sandlot football. Josh Allen can play Sandlot football. Lamar Jackson can play Sandlot football. A lot of these top quarterbacks can play Sandlot football.

27:01Shannon Sharpe:You can get them off script and they can still remain on script. Hey, make something out of nothing. That's not what he is. If I don't give him the best ingredients, boy, that meal going to be something awful. I just let you know, just so you know ahead of time, if I don't give him something good, that meal going to be something good and terrible. Yeah.

27:22Joe Johnson:Yeah. And you know what I think we should do in the second half of the show, Uncle Joe? Uncle, I think you should pick two of first in your fantasy draft. Nah, I'm good. Hey, Joe, you live in Atlanta, so you should just put your quarterback.

27:37Shannon Sharpe:I'm gonna see if I got some room for him, Ocho. If I got some room for him, I'm gonna see if I can make some room for him.

27:42Joe Johnson:Yeah, in the trunk of my car. I mean, you wouldn't get him first.

27:45Shannon Sharpe:Nah, with the first pick.

27:47Joe Johnson:Yeah, why not, Joe? You live in Atlanta. You support the Falcons, don't you?

27:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I support the Falcons, yeah.

27:53Joe Johnson:All right, I don't understand what the problem is. It shouldn't be no hesitation. It shouldn't be no hesitation if you're a Falcons fan.

27:58Shannon Sharpe:It just depends on who's there at the time. You know what I mean? Hey, hey, you never know. Never know. Heading into week one, the initial quarterback questions have been answered. Atlanta, Tua. Cleveland, Deshaun Watson. Las Vegas, First Cousins. Minnesota, Kyler Murray. Anybody surprised? The one that probably surprises me is probably Deshaun in Cleveland. Yeah. But given the money, but like Ocho, the money, you're right. when you look when you look at it should have been it should have been a telltale sign the moment they didn't release him june 1st well you start with him now yeah yeah i mean i hey uncle

28:42Joe Johnson:joe i tried to tell y 'all you know when the conversation first came up and the conversation first arrived who was going to be the starting you know starting quarterback and obviously the media the analysts the pundits we tried to make it uh in a sense of a quarterback competition when actually it really never was. Obviously, us as fans, an outside look at the fan, we know what we wanted. You know, we all wanted that number two. We wanted number two stars because we've already seen small semicides of what Deshaun has looked like before injuries, including during his tenure. It hadn't been nothing to cheer about, so why not move on because everybody wants number two?

29:19Joe Johnson:But I do wholeheartedly. Wait a minute. If he's not going after June 1st, Oh, he definitely was a starter. Now, we can make up the service and it being a quarterback competition. And, you know, it never was. Regardless of what the numbers were, they put up in the preseason. Regardless of what they did in practice, well, four was starting. But you see, they be,

29:35Shannon Sharpe:yeah, we bought into it like they did because what they do, Ocho, each day, they had the chart up there. Ochoa Watson had this many completions, this many incompletions, this many touchdowns. This is what Shadour did. We're like, oh, man, Shadour balled a day. Like, oh, man, Shadour got a chance. Shadour actually outplayed Deshaun. Hey, they said it was performance-based. This is performance-based. Man, a lot don't care who tell it. Hello, and they told us one here.

30:03Joe Johnson:Yeah, you got to understand that. That's called engagement. We want to keep everybody engaged and make it a mistake. Come on, man. You know that it's performance-based. No, it's business-based. Huh? I'm with you. I'm with you. Huh? It's business-based. Well, come on, come on now.

30:21Shannon Sharpe:They need to keep their fan engaged. like I said, Cleveland Browns have the most loyal fans to be that in-depth for that length of time to have this quarterback carousel year after year after year after decade after decade after decade and for them to still show up in that cold and still root 14 and they realistically, I think the fans deep down inside know, man, we ain't going to, I mean, for the most part, the top 20 teams, their fans really think they're going to the Super Bowl, Ocho. They're about 10 teams. They fan base like, man, we ain't got no chance of help. We ain't going to the Super Bowl.

31:00Shannon Sharpe:And Cleveland Brown fans are those fans. But the Raiders are another group of fans. They know damn well they're not going to no damn Super Bowl. Yeah. Hey, I'm telling you, the fans, they're going to dictate everything, bro. You know, it's going to be rough in Cleveland, Ocho. I'm telling you man yeah it's gonna be rough it's gonna be rough in Cleveland it's tough

31:25Joe Johnson:hey listen hey Joe it ain't gonna be too rough I'll tell you one thing if them first three games those first three games matter of fact not even the first three them first two the first two games is pivotal for Deshaun Watson it's pivotal boy they're on the road the first two games and they're coming home with the third game boy if you ain't 1-1 or if you ain't 2-0 it's gonna be a change made I guarantee you and I told you here. I told you here first. On night camp. Booking.

31:51Shannon Sharpe:So looking at the way we're looking at, Atlanta starting Tua, Cleveland starting Deshaun, Vegas starting Cousins, Minnesota starting Kyler Murray. There ain't no surprise. Nah. Nah.

32:02Joe Johnson:Mm-mm.

32:03Shannon Sharpe:Ain't no surprise. We knew Kyler Murray was going to win that job. Yeah. We knew Tua was going to win that job. Cousins. Tom Brady's already saying, we're playing these quarterbacks too. They're not ready to play, and we're trotting them out there. That's the reason why they signed Cousins, to buy them some time until the young man develops. He needs to develop even more. I think he has the potential to be really, really good. I've seen some throws that he made, but I've seen some mistakes that he's made also. Absolutely. Yes. We hoped that there was a chance that Shadour really got a realistic chance of starting, but that would never materialize.

32:40There was no chance that Shadour would ever go.

32:43Shannon Sharpe:Shadour could have win. if he threw 600 passes, if he threw 200 passes in the preseason, he could have gone 195 for 200 for 2 ,000 yards and 40 touchdowns and he wasn't starting. No. There was nothing Shadour Sanders could have done.

33:03Joe Johnson:Hey, he's going to get his opportunity, Joe. I'll tell you one thing. Week three.

33:10Shannon Sharpe:Check this out. Todd Munkin says he believes in weekly captains picked by the coaches. So that way, because you know, Joe Ocho, when you put the captaincies on, that thing ain't there for the whole year. Yeah. So guess what, Ocho? You not starting, you the quarterback, and you not starting no more, you ain't got no captaincy on your jersey. They take a seat off your chest.

33:38Joe Johnson:Hey, just like in the movie ATL. Well, when T.I. snatched that chain?

33:43Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

33:44Joe Johnson:Give me the, you took that chain from Nuno? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And let me get that seat off your chest.

33:48Shannon Sharpe:I don't, I don't, the coaches don't normally pick the captains. The team, the players. The players pick the captains. So why is the coach going? Come on, man, y 'all stop playing. You know why he doing that. He's on the Shadour. He got outvoted. He got out man. You bought a sofa you didn't have to assemble, a suit someone measured just for you. 37:08Joe Johnson:Hey, listen, you don't want to argue with you. You don't want to argue with upstairs. They cut your check.

37:13Shannon Sharpe:Well, listen, I just got here now. I just got here. I ain't got no say-so in who I put out there. No. You the coach of the Browns. You got no say in the final roster of the 53. You got no say in free agency. You got no say in the draft. You coach. You got a contract between you and the Browns to say you do what they tell you to do. So don't say nothing to you. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. So I'm just a puppet, huh? OK.

37:42Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hold on, hold on. I think every coach is a puppet except a select few. Hold on, Joe. A select few. A select few run the show. They able to make the Sean McVeys, the Shanahans, the Andy Reeds. Who else? That's about it. Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh in Detroit. Oh, Campbell. Yeah, Dan Campbell. Now, that's reserved for them. They called in shots on what we feel works best for my team. Now, I know you're the owner, but we need to separate the two. Hey, over there in Dallas, Brother Schottenheimer, right? What's his name? Yeah. Oh, Jerry run the show, boy. But Joe know that. We ain't telling Joe nothing.

38:26Joe Johnson:He don't know about that. Well, he know about that. I already know what's going on.

38:28Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nah, you got, sometimes you just want, there's only 32 of those jobs, Joe.

38:37Joe Johnson:Oh, Sean Payton, Sean Payton. I love Sean Payton now. I just saw that in the chat.

38:42Shannon Sharpe:Chat, whoever that was in the chat, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Look at the pay scale. Who making 14, 15, 18,$20 million? You got a lot to say. a lot of say yeah so Mike Tomlin had a lot of say because his pay would say that John Harbaugh had some say he was making big money he probably had a lot of say the final 53 had some input but no I didn't this is odd to me for it to come out that Todd Munkin is going to take weekly captains no other team

39:25Joe Johnson:The team does that. And hold on, the coaches don't do the voting. The players do. The coaches leave the room

39:32Shannon Sharpe:and the players do the voting on the team captain. Even though they gonna select who they want to be captains. But at least we voted. Vote by the bit battle, but we voted. And y 'all know the motion coming real quick. Soon. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Yeah. There's nothing worse than having, I mean, you'd probably feel pretty bad your damn self to have been a situation where you're not even on the field and you got the captaincy on your chest. Yeah. Yeah.

40:03Joe Johnson:Yeah. I think that's why you're doing it. Oh, no question. I think that's why you're doing it too, Uncle Joe, because I can tell you one thing, Deshaun Watson is going to be a captain at the beginning of the season. And the minute things don't go well and he has to revert the two, man, let me get that C off. Give me the C off your chest, man. Get shit back.

40:24Shannon Sharpe:Well, it might be. That's it.

40:30Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all better go ahead and get your jersey. Because you know jerseys that irregularities. Because you know you get the one that got the C on it, and then you have to get the one later in the year, you won't have no C on the jersey. Oh, man, come on.

40:42Joe Johnson:They sell a jersey with a cap? Oh, yeah, for sure. I ain't know that. Okay, I ain't know that.

40:48Shannon Sharpe:I ain't know that. That's the whole point of getting an authentic jersey. Because you know the ones with the gold. Because you know the guys that won, they got the gold right here. Not Jocho. So if you want MVP, your NFL is in gold. You want defensive player of the year. You want rookie of the year, offensive player of the year. This right here letter in NFL is in gold now. I didn't know that.

41:11Joe Johnson:It looks more intricate details. Okay. That's dope.

41:15Shannon Sharpe:I don't know if they sell those though. they should I mean if I buy a Miles Garrett jersey I want the jersey like Miles Garrett be wearing if I buy a Matthew Stafford jersey I want the damn jersey that he wearing I don't want no replica you tell me this is an NFL authentic jersey that's what you selling well if I get the jersey and it's white here and I see him on television and he has his gold here man this ain't Miles Garrett jersey and for what these jerseys cause hell as a matter of fact miles give me hey miles need to give me treat me like me and yo did that kid in the coke commercial here okay for what them jerseys call what them jerseys call a couple hundred dollars chat what an NFL jersey calls hey about 120 dollars i think oh

42:04Joe Johnson:they say 300 what cost 300 how much a jersey cost i just told you 120 a real jersey cost That's it? Okay, that ain't that bad. I would think so.

42:20Joe Johnson:Joe, how much an NBA jersey costs, a real one?

42:23Shannon Sharpe:A real one? One of them authentic joints, it depends on where you get it from. Man, you can get them from certain places. I'm gonna go to NFL or NBA.com.

42:36Shannon Sharpe:400! 400! Look here, Miles Garrett better give me one off his damn back. Oh, honey. What? Oh, nah. What? Hell, nah. Ocho, remember how all them guys was trading those jerseys? They started taking it out of your check. You can trade every week if you want to. It's going to cost you$400.

43:01Joe Johnson:It's going to come out, yeah. They ain't going to miss that. It's going to cost you$400. Y 'all had authentic. I had to get a regular jersey with a name on the back. Let it do just fine.

43:15Shannon Sharpe:Nah, man. No, hell nah. I want a real, if I'm paying$400, I want a real jersey like them jokers be running around out there and tackling and catching the ball on the field with. That's just me now. Now, some people, like you said, some people are going to be okay with an inauthentic jersey or a replica or whatever, however they call it. But no, I want a real Miles Garrett or a Matthew Stafford jersey. I want a real Mahone boy jersey. Yeah.

43:40Joe Johnson:Hey, listen, you talk about real. I don't want the authentic jersey that you have to buy if I'm paying$400 I want the jersey that they had on in the game I want the jersey had on the game Now absolutely I would deal I'll deal with the regular long as your name on the back and it's about 150 hundred twenty dollars I get that I'm good

44:00Shannon Sharpe:Hey, it's expensive now Oh, well, you think all that merchandise where you think all that money be coming from the TV a They'd be selling everything And you know they got the pink, kids be wanting the pink wristbands and the headbands and the towels, Ocho. They got the salute to service, they got the camouflage, they got my cause cleats. Now they let you, hey, you wanna dock you up the cleats? We'll let you dock them up, but we gonna take them for you and auction them off.

44:31Shannon Sharpe:They didn't get my money back. For what? I got my money back all the time. Y 'all done fined me for having the cleats. I got five, five grand every time I wore a cleat unless I covered the... What you had to cover? Dude. The back. See the back? Got orange on it, Joe. I had to cover that up. Why you got to cover the orange? Because see here? Blue and white. You could only have two colors at the time. Damn. So if you had this third color, so every time I had to have this, you see I come all the way up to the side. Yeah. You buy me$5 ,000 every time. that orange shows. Hey, hey, hey, I see them shoes.

45:09Shannon Sharpe:What you did? You went to high school with Moses or something? Boy, hey, Joe, you better tell him about the Speed TD. That's them four, five twos. Hey, hold on.

45:18Joe Johnson:That might be the best shoot. That might be the best they made right there.

45:20Shannon Sharpe:The best.

45:21Joe Johnson:That might be the best one they made, yeah.

45:23Shannon Sharpe:These Speed TD bottoms?

45:25Joe Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. What'd you say, Joe, he went to school with Moses? He went to high school with Moses.

45:30Shannon Sharpe:That went to the bottom.

45:33Joe Johnson:Them things were classic right there, bro.

45:35Shannon Sharpe:These are the ones I set. It's called 800, my 800 pass in right here. That's all, Joe. You were booking them. You had that. Joe was a three-part competition. You might could get them up off it if you beat me. Oh, oh, oh, oh. I'm just saying, Joe. Let's just be for real. Come on. Listen, I already made an example out your homeboy over there. You know what I'm saying? Come on, Joe. I wasn't talking to you, Joe. Joe?

46:03Joe Johnson:You said your homeboy, Joe. I didn't say no names though. I didn't say who I... I'm just saying, Joe, stop playing on me, Joe. Listen, I took it easy on you to make sure you look good

46:12Shannon Sharpe:and here you go talk to him. Big play, four shape. Big play shape. Yeah, yeah. I mean, for a three-point competition, Joe, I mean, hey. I'm gonna need you to sign them too, man. I know that you're, you ain't signing them, but I need you to sign them when I take them off your hand. that what i'm saying joe you can't get him joe i got i'm gonna shoot hard hey you gonna think i'm steph curry out there oh hey it ain't like riding a bicycle man hey guess what guess what guess what hell if i miss a shot is luck you hear me i probably missed but two shots out there the other day i probably

46:51Joe Johnson:missed with two shots hell if i miss it look hey hey hey hey um he's doing all this talking and I was out there feeling like, you know, how I play with my son. I play with my kids, man. You know, just, you know, let them win one a little bit, no? Because it builds character. You can see the confidence that is built in him with him talking all this trash today, Joe. I know you feel good about yourself.

47:13Shannon Sharpe:I wasn't even ever going to bring that up, man. Because, you know, for me, I really don't get no strength behind that. You know what I'm saying? Joe, you just brought it up. I brought it up. I brought it up. He said something about shooting.

47:26Joe Johnson:Yeah. And then you say I already beat. Yeah, I didn't say no name, though.

47:29Shannon Sharpe:You just took offense to it. But hell, if the shoe where did it shoot feet, then where partner? I ain't worried about you. Wait, don't. It does. You don't fit because they got.

47:38Joe Johnson:OK, I had on. But yeah, oh, yeah, I really, you know,

47:44Shannon Sharpe:I already don't watch your homeboy. So you need man. That's all I'm saying. So you still talking? I'm going to keep talking. Yeah. OK. Are you? You know, OK. You said me. Hey, what's up? Huh? No, okay, all right. My last year they had to shoot the bottom that they come out. I can't play in those, Ocho. The shoot bottom that they got now, those like soccer bottoms. Oh, the soccer bottom? No. Man, I'm too heavy, man. I need something to stick in the dirt, man. I'm on top of the grass, nah, bro. but I guess those are best for that field turf that they have now. Man, you be slipping all over the place on real.

48:27Shannon Sharpe:I need those. That's what I need. I need what Messi and Renal don't have played on grass. Quiet confidence. It's not what you see. It's what you feel. 51:37Shannon Sharpe:TD bottom. They call them tempo, but we call them speed TDs. Uh-oh, Joe. All-pro left guard Tyler Smith is scheduled to undergo thumb surgery Tuesday, and is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks. You can hide him a little bit, huh? You can hide him a little bit. I thought it was a left tackle. He can't play because he can't grab nobody.

52:43Shannon Sharpe:That bomb is everything. Yeah.

52:45Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah, yeah. You gotta be able to grab.

52:48Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey.

52:50Joe Johnson:I was worried a little bit. I ain't too worried, Joe. I thought it was your left tackle. But I love this.

52:53Shannon Sharpe:That's a huge loss for us though. You know, can you - He didn't mess up that guy right there? Yeah. Yeah. Three-time punk bowler, one of the strongest pieces on that offensive line. come on man we're gonna need tj bass bass gotta step up okay ocho you know he got a few starts on this belt so we got some experience you know in that backup position so i ain't dying to worry but oh man without without without uh uh uh without smith that pocket gonna collapse what's that what's the backup name what's the backup name bass oh yeah we got it oh we can't let it go Let it go, Ocho. We got it. We got it for fish.

53:32Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey, hey, nah, you know what they do. See, when one of your best players go down, you got to lock in a little more. You got to lock in a little more. You got to do the little small, minute things. You hear me? We ain't going to let this derail us. Nah, nah, we ain't going to do that. We got work to do. Let's see. So, y 'all got the Giants, Washington, Baltimore, Houston, Tampa, Green Bay. God dog Joe

53:57Joe Johnson:Who made y 'all schedule Hey guess what

54:01Shannon Sharpe:We gotta play them one game at a time Y 'all run out One game at a time We gonna start with the Giants I need to slow down He already two months into the damn season We ain't got to get week one yet

54:17Joe Johnson:Hey Joe What happened if y 'all start 0-1 What'd you say I'm just throwing a hypothetical out there what happens if y 'all start 0-1? So how you come back on here with that same energy?

54:28Shannon Sharpe:We'll cross that bridge when we go through. Right now, we ain't thinking about no losing, man. I'm just keeping it real. So you need, don't even put that in the air, though. Don't put that in the air.

54:36Joe Johnson:Hey, look, it don't matter what's in the air. It doesn't matter what's going on in that field. So it don't matter what I say, you still gotta go out there. You know what's going on in that field.

54:42Shannon Sharpe:We got some boys out there who gonna be making some plays on both ends. On both ends of the ball, yeah. Joe, I'm just trying to figure out where you can go, where you can travel in this country that you ain't gotta cross a bridge.

54:56Ooh, I like that.

54:58Shannon Sharpe:Listen, man. You know a place you go? I mean, they got bridges in Arkansas, I know. Yeah, they got bridges, they got bridges, but listen, we gotta take it one game at a time. We ain't worried about all that. You hear me? Who we got first? You got the G-men first? Yeah, yeah. We're gonna wax them boys.

55:16Joe Johnson:I know 1488 gonna eat, though. I can tell you that.

55:20Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Brian Burns, you know Brian Burns. Oh, they did. I think they might've kicked Tyler Smith out the left tackle. So, Ocho, and you know Brian Burns, he like to eat. They got a dual carter. Maybe Kayvon Thibodeau.

55:34Joe Johnson:Hey, you know, Brian Burns is when they do the little Spider-Man after he score, right?

55:40Shannon Sharpe:Spider-Man, where are you coming from? Nobody knows who you are. Man. Hey, hey, hey. There ain't gonna be none of that, partner. I feel you, Joe. Hey, I'm with you. Nah, nah, nah, nah. Y 'all caught up in the way of. We ain't having none of that. I'm supporting you, Joe. Yeah, I already know. I know y 'all praying on that downfall, man. I know. You know, hey, hey, hey. Y 'all seen Big Tyler Smith go down, y 'all like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's going to be, nah. Nah, we going to step right up. Let's go, Bass.

56:15Joe Johnson:I ain't saying nothing, Joe. I've been very supportive of your Cowboys offensively.

56:20Shannon Sharpe:What you do with a 15 pound bass? You put him on your wall, you're mounting. That's a trophy fish. That's a trophy fish, you put him on your wall. That's all. I can't wait, boy. I can't wait till we put down this mean demonstration, boy. Boy, y 'all got us bent. Y 'all really got us bent, man. Y 'all think Jay, I'm making these moves. Y 'all think we, man, please.

56:43Joe Johnson:Yeah, I got you. Hey, I got a question too. I'm glad you said that, right? I understand how they do deer and In bears How do they do Saying okay, okay, okay, okay Taxidermy

57:00Shannon Sharpe:Okay, I'm gonna get me I'm okay. I'm gonna go real jungle go fishing and I'm gonna catch one so big I'm having math to have him mountain come to be Joe fishing. That'd be the internet cuz he swear he could fish So I'm a beating fish did ever take him on the basketball court and I'm gonna have the basketball mountain That's what I would do, Joe. I'm gonna have a basketball mountain. Hey, Unk, Unk, Unk, what I would advise for you to do is to go in your backyard every day for the next month or so. Make sure you get your reps in, okay? Yeah, get your reps in.

57:32Joe Johnson:See, that's the problem.

57:33Shannon Sharpe:You see this here, Joe? I see it. It look good, too, bro. Never gonna get it, never gonna get it, never gonna get it, woo woo woo woo. Yeah. I can't let you get this, Joe. Hey, hey, hey, let me tell y 'all something. I'm going to make an example out of YouTube, boy. I'm going to make an example out of YouTube. I'm going to tell y 'all what we need to do, too. If we get some time in Vegas, man, we need to... What's up on the pool, man? Do I need to bring my pool stick? What do I need to do? You want to shoot pool? Yeah, pool, ping pong, something, man. Something, y 'all.

58:04Joe Johnson:Hey, don't let ping or pong come out your mouth, Joe. Don't do that. We can find a pool to help her easy. They got a minute. Hold on. Hey, what we staying at? Hey, can I tell you something? Hey, Joe, what day you get that, Joe? I get that Wednesday morning.

58:21Shannon Sharpe:I'll tell you in a minute. Let me tell you something. Me and Chad, we sick of these shenanigans you got going on. I'm just going to keep it 100 with you, okay?

58:32Joe Johnson:Hold on. When you talk about 100, let's take 50 from that. Let's keep it 50.

58:35Shannon Sharpe:Keep it 50?

58:36Joe Johnson:No, I'm going to keep it 100. I don't care about it being 100. I don't care about it being 100. I ain't really care what you talk about right now. Honestly, what day you get to Vegas? I know where the pool tables and the ping pong tables at.

58:48Shannon Sharpe:I got me a subscription to ChatGPT. And they tell me I'm the best in the house. That's what ChatGPT told me.

58:55Joe Johnson:The best in the house at what?

58:56Shannon Sharpe:Shooting pool, fishing, ping pong, basketball shooting. Chat, chat, y 'all see my work, chat. Y 'all see how, I don't have to do a whole lot of time. I'm really about action, man. I ain't saying, you know what I'm saying? Y 'all gonna chew the fat, do a bunch of line, and I ain't, man, listen. When y 'all see me show up, y 'all know what time it is. That's what y 'all do know, yeah. Time for you to catch yourself with it dealing with me now. This Ocho, but Ochoa Sharp, now I'm telling you, Joe, this is a different time. Hey, Ochoa and I are the same type of animal, but I'm a different beast. We're the same type of animal,

59:36Joe Johnson:but I'm a different beast, Joe. Hey, this is what you got to understand. For one, Joe, I let you do what you did, right? I wasn't messing up my boots. I just bought my little$800 Cayman boots. I had my belt on. I wasn't scuffing none of them up. I let you win your little basketball game. Joe, when it comes to anything outside of your respective sport, Joe, you're not beating me, Joe, at nothing. Pick the pool. I promise you, I know where the pool table's at. I know where the ping pong table's at in Vegas. It's whatever you want to do. Hey, you're an unc, boy.

1:00:06Shannon Sharpe:Well, y 'all funny, y 'all two characters. You know that? Y 'all just kill me sometimes, you hear me?

1:00:12Joe Johnson:Huh? Hey, yeah. Hey. I like that word, I like that word kill. So the fact that I'm still letting you breathe, I let you know I got love for you.

1:00:20Shannon Sharpe:I like it, I like it. It's cute, that's cute. What you got to say? I ain't say nothing. Y 'all didn't shit y 'all saw me before. I had all this cosmetic surgery done. Hey, listen, this is easy work. What? You an Ocho? Y 'all easy work, man. I don't even have to sweat. I ain't really. Joe, you can't even play pool, Joe. No, you really can't play pool. Joe, you know, I'm telling you, I beat the best. Oh, you ain't played me. How you beat the best? I ain't. What you mean? F. Reyes, Earl Strickland. They can't beat me. That's what I'm trying to tell you. The F. Reyes, them boys can't beat me. That's what I'm trying to tell you.

1:01:01Shannon Sharpe:Boy, the best in the house. Musconi, fats. Joe, you got your own pool stick? Come on, Joe. Stop playing with me, man. That's like asking me. That's like asking a basketball player, man, do you ride around with a basketball in your car? Hell yeah, I do, because somebody get out of line. I got something for them.

1:01:21Joe Johnson:I'll be Joe with a broomstick.

1:01:23Shannon Sharpe:Mine in my car. It's in my car. I got one of the more fat broomsticks. You one of the more broomsticks we used to grow up with in the country, Joe? Everybody been this fat around?

1:01:33Joe Johnson:Big fat ones. Hey, hold on. Hey, the broom bristles hard as hell. You got the whole head on the top too. Yeah. Damn. Hey, what time it is?

1:01:48Shannon Sharpe:Uh, like seven minutes to eight.

1:01:52Joe Johnson:Hello? It's time to go to bed. You got school in the morning. Let's go, let's go. Eat that. Throw that stuff away. She back here chilling like it ain't school. How old is she, Ocho? He let him sit there eating McDonald's. Oh yeah, oh yeah.

1:02:07Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, that sound like mine keep coming through here.

1:02:11Joe Johnson:Oh, they up over there too, Joe?

1:02:13Shannon Sharpe:My daughter Twill, she like to walk around the house late night too, where everybody sleep.

1:02:18Joe Johnson:Hold on, hold on. But do she wake up in the morning though?

1:02:20Shannon Sharpe:With no problem. I'm telling you, she pop right up. Okay, okay.

1:02:24Joe Johnson:Yeah, this she do too. She wake me up in the morning sometimes, especially when we had a show. Yeah, she wake up before me. so that's why I wasn't really tripping.

1:02:32Shannon Sharpe:You got to get up. Grandma say, okay, you ain't got to get up, but I'm going to shut down on your ass if you're not up. Yeah, hello. Yeah.

1:02:44Shannon Sharpe:Bengals can't have any. Boy, look at the Bengals. What they ain't done. Y 'all got one of the easiest schedules, Ocho. Hey, I'm going to say NFL.

1:02:54Joe Johnson:Ain't nothing easy about that.

1:02:55Shannon Sharpe:Bengals got the 30th easiest schedule.

1:03:02Joe Johnson:you see that yo joe it's not it's not it's not easy it's the nfl ain't nobody easy you still got to go out there compete you know the team at the bottom of the league can be the team at the top of the league any given sunday it just depends on what team shows up that day so nothing is easy now what they're trying to do is they're trying to make excuses before we make the super bowl run that's what they're trying to do they're trying to say the fact that we got to the Super Bowl is because our schedule is easy. Y 'all not paying attention. They're trying to

1:03:32Shannon Sharpe:undermine you before it gets started.

1:03:35Joe Johnson:Because they already know. They already know what's going to happen. They've seen the moves that Mike Brown has done for us defensively. The problem that we had over there, stopping the run and stopping the pass. Brother DJ Turner, this is your year. You hear me? You got to be specialists here. Joe, Chase, T, y 'all going to do what y 'all do. On the NFL, Ocho.

1:03:57Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, y 'all defense been tightened up. You think y 'all going to be a lot better this year?

1:04:02Joe Johnson:Joe, let me tell you something, Joe. Just like the Cowboys, we got pieces, Joe. We got names from other teams. Now, how those names play within the scheme of things, schematically, you know, it's still out. It's still out. Now, everything look good on paper, Joe. We ain't buying names on paper, Joe. What we going to do 1 o 'clock when we play week one? I forgot who played week one. Oh, Tampa Bay. No. Is it Tampa Bay? No, it can't be Tampa Bay because I thought Cleveland played Tampa Bay first. No, they do.

1:04:34Shannon Sharpe:They do. You're right. You're right.

1:04:36Joe Johnson:I thought they played Jaguar. I don't know who y 'all play. Yep. Damn. Damn. Hey, Chad, who the Bengals play week one? Wait a minute. Well, who the Browns play week one? They play Jags.

1:04:47Shannon Sharpe:They play Jags. They play the Jags. Cleveland play the Jags.

1:04:49Joe Johnson:Okay, and they play Tampa Bay the following week. Okay, okay, okay. Yeah, that's going to be a good one. That's going to be a good one. Yeah. That's gonna be a good test. That's gonna be a good test for Orlando Brown and the Marius Mims, I don't know how to say this, but that Ruben Bain Jr., oh. I know he's a rookie. I know we haven't seen him do anything, but just the clips that I've seen and watching him come off that edge, he got some little tools in the toolbox too, huh?

1:05:16Shannon Sharpe:And he put some work in too, Ocho.

1:05:19Joe Johnson:Hey, he be bent, I'm sorry, he be bent like Beckham.

1:05:23Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. What?

1:05:26Joe Johnson:Yeah, he nice. He nice. He nice. And we're going to see what that defense looks like, Joe. We're going to see.

1:05:31Shannon Sharpe:Well, they need to come on with it. Ocho, the Giants have released veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton, a fifth-round pick in 2019, was the longest-tenured Giant. The move saves the Giants$3.2 million against the Cavs in 2026. Slayton signed a three-year deal,$36 million deal, with the Giants ahead of the 2025 season. Now he's a free agent. He's not eligible for waivers. As a veteran, he can sign anywhere. Ochoa, are you surprised by this move? I am surprised by it.

1:06:03Joe Johnson:I am surprised by it. But also, I'm surprised by the move because I'm not sure where Malik Nabors is as far as him playing and being ready and being healthy coming off his injury last year. I'm also surprised that we have other receivers. I know Odell Beckham. this lets me know Odell Beckham has looked extremely good more than what we can see because we're not at the practice but we saw the small sample size of Odell in the preseason we know now he's on the 53 man and all of a sudden two three days later they let brother Slayton go who they just signed to a three year deal just last year so I mean I wouldn't say the writing was on the wall because I wasn't sure but I'm hoping I'm hoping brother Malik neighbors is ready to go I'm assuming now I thought Slade was going to be the two and Odell would be the three but it looks like Odell is going to move up to be the two.

1:06:57Joe Johnson:I know Darnell Mooney is there. I would see Darnell Mooney as the three because he's more of a slot receiver. He can play on the outside too but he does most of his damage from the inside.

1:07:07Shannon Sharpe:Your guppies need to give him a call. Somebody going to give him a call. He going to get an opportunity. The guppies?

1:07:14Joe Johnson:The Miami Dolphins? Matter of fact, you know what? You can keep calling us the guppies because right now we need to earn the right to be called the Miami Dolphins. So guppies is okay. I'm going to go with that for right now.

1:07:27Shannon Sharpe:You know y 'all bad. Y 'all going to the Dolphins going to the Super Bowl? Who?

1:07:34Joe Johnson:Come on. If you're playing Madden, there's a good chance and you're good at it.

1:07:38Shannon Sharpe:I'm asking rhetorical questions. Come on, Unc.

1:07:41Joe Johnson:Come on now. Hey, Joe. I'm just keeping it 100. but I got, we got to keep,

1:07:48Shannon Sharpe:this nightcap, we got to keep it 100, Ocho. We can't be on here acting like, you know, they really got a real chance, well, hell, we know they don't, come on now.

1:07:55Joe Johnson:We know they don't have a chance, Joe. That's why I said, if you playing Madden, that's the only way you win the Super Bowl with the Dolphins.

1:08:01Shannon Sharpe:Well, okay, they give the Guffies then. I've been trying to tell you that, even when they was winning, blowing, oh, I said, Ocho, you know what happens when that weather get cold? Oh, this is a different team, Ocho. Man, they went to Kansas City, Joe. It was so cold. It was Buffalo. Which one? I thought it was Buffalo. That's with Sneed for a quick jam, Tyreek.

1:08:29Joe Johnson:Oh, yeah, into the flow. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, I remember that.

1:08:31Shannon Sharpe:I remember that. He didn't slip. He slipped. He slipped. Sneed lured him to sleep. He started up there and then backed off. Because, you know, you got to look inside to try to see them with the ball because you can't hear. Yeah. And when he look. He got a little help behind him, though. Hey, you know the Miami boys, they can't do nothing in that cold weather. It's hard, man. Man, them boys, man, come on. When the Dolphins play in the cold, especially in the postseason, it's a wrap.

1:09:06Joe Johnson:That's been the Dolphins M.O. for how many years? Every time they get cold, they've always played bad. This ain't just start, just now. It's been like that for years.

1:09:17Shannon Sharpe:Chargers, I mean, the warm-weather than dome teams. It's hard. I mean, every once in a while, you get a team like a Tampa, but it really wasn't that bone-chilling cold like we've seen in Philly when they went to an upset Philly in the NFC Championship game and ended up winning the Super Bowl. It wasn't that kind of cold, but the Chargers went one year. That might have been 81 to Cincinnati. Yeah. The first year y 'all went to the Super Bowl, it was about 50 below zero, Ocho. In the 88? The 88? 81. Ken Anderson.

1:09:47Joe Johnson:81, I'm sorry. 81.

1:09:49Shannon Sharpe:Hey, was that cold? Go look up the temperature and see what it was. Man, that thing was so cold. Ooh, I felt bad for it. Y 'all beat them 27-0, but it was really worse than that. It might have been like 75-0 because they couldn't do nothing, man. It was so cold out there. I was like, man, how somebody played? It's like, can it be too cold to play? not an NFL game it can't they might tell you don't go outside or win a cheer warning or extreme

1:10:20Joe Johnson:yeah but football

1:10:21Shannon Sharpe:you play it hey Joe

1:10:25Joe Johnson:and the only reason I like the cold Joe it's so funny I think obviously growing up in Miami and playing in Cincinnati I had an appreciation for the seasons had appreciation going through the summer the winter the fall the spring and something about being in that cold weather because when it's hot Joe I got to get an IV game game at halftime Joe my calves cramp up every single hydration never but 11-12 years straight Joe so I couldn't wait until it got cold I'd be out there running free no sleeve no nothing Joe out there having a ball because I know I can just keep going and I ain't going to get him

1:11:03Shannon Sharpe:Ocho this was in January 10th of 1982 the air temperature was minus nine. The wind chill was minus 59. What? What was this at? Minus 59? Minus 59. That was in Buffalo? I remember watching the guy. What was that at? It's in Riverfront Stadium. Did you play at Riverfront, Ocho? No, no.

1:11:29Joe Johnson:They was already at by the time I got there.

1:11:32Shannon Sharpe:I played it on Riverfront. Oh yeah, Joe. Yeah, minus 59. That way it was blowing 25, 30, 35 miles an hour. I'm talking about it was so, so. Go back and look at the videos over. You see them people in the stands. And you know they had a couple of them had their shirts off, Joe. Hey, you can't do nothing but run the ball. You can only run the ball in that type of weather, can't you?

1:11:55Joe Johnson:Oh, no, you can throw it. Hey, as a receiver, Joe, you catching everything from here down. From the belly button to the shoulder pads, Joe. That's it. I ain't trying to use no hands at all.

1:12:06Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I But I think I'm a little surprised because my thing is the week the season happened this week If that you should have just made him a part of the 53 a part of the 37 that you cut when you trim the original roster

1:12:22Joe Johnson:Well, I think I think you probably waited this late because you didn't know what you're gonna do with a hell You didn't know if he was gonna make make team or not So this is the last-minute decision unless something else happened that we don't know about internally inside. Now that might come out for them releasing them. It might be something else.

1:12:43Shannon Sharpe:Man just got married. Still on his honeymoon. Having a great time. Y 'all didn't slice the man like this here. And they don't care nothing about that.

1:12:52Joe Johnson:They don't. They don't. He going to get picked up either way. I don't like seeing players lose their job. Especially a player like Brother Slayton who gives you no problems. He doesn't cause no problems on the field. He does everything right. You know, as far as I can see. I hate that. I hate that for him. But, listen, there was a reason behind it. What that reason is, we don't know. And if it was, I'm sure it will come out. But he going to land on his feet. Yeah. But, so I guess you're right.

1:13:22Shannon Sharpe:If Malik Nabors got to be pretty close to damn near healthy to make a move like this. Got to be. Yeah. Yeah. It's not like they just loaded with receiver talent. Yeah. Hey, I got a question. Do y 'all think they anticipated OBJ probably looking the way he looked, meaning looking good, and obviously making the team? Do y 'all think they anticipated him to play the way he played in this preseason? No. Obviously making the team? I don't think so neither. That's what I was asking. No, I don't think they was expecting. I think they was willing to give him a shot, Ocho, but I don't know if they thought that he would, you know, be able to hold up throughout training camp.

1:14:06Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? I don't know if they thought that.

1:14:10Joe Johnson:Ah. You know how I feel. I've talked about it before, and obviously the entire chat they got on me, he's not Odell Abode. But listen, even if he's not Odell Abode, I know what a healthy Odell can do even after the injuries when the opportunities present themselves. That's all.

1:14:25Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:14:26Joe Johnson:That's all. I just saw him with Baltimore take a slant to go 70. You know, I saw what he did when he was with the Rams. I saw what he did when he was with Cleveland. He still has that magic in him to do what he's done in the past, just not on a regular basis.

1:14:39Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:14:39Joe Johnson:You know, you're throwing three balls, you know, want to be a six yard and then maybe a 10 yard and there go one, boom. He going for 70. He going for 80. Like, it's still in there, just not on a regular, like we're used to seeing it happen.

1:14:52Shannon Sharpe:That's what I was talking about, Ocho. I just didn't know he was going to get the opportunities. and as you get older it takes more out of you I don't know if he can handle his body could withstand 120 targets at this juncture of his career because he hadn't missing all of last year and over the last 3-4 years he's gotten limited targets and just to give him that abundance of targets you're asking an awful lot I think 40, 40, 50 balls. I think that's realistic. Depending on if he's the two, he can get more than that. But it all depends on what are they looking like. Neighbors go down. Neighbors are not as healthy as we think he is.

1:15:45Shannon Sharpe:It might increase.

1:15:47Joe Johnson:Yeah. Yeah, he's going to. He's going to.
