In short

College football preview and reaction to Indiana’s 56-22 blowout over Oregon, setting up a national championship vs Miami (Jan. 19). Also discusses NFL coaching rumors: John Harbaugh’s contract demands, Kevin Stefanski interviewing for Ravens HC, and Vikings “regretting” letting Sam Darnold walk.

Guests (hosts)

Ocho (Ocho Cinco/Chad Johnson) and Chad (Matt Rogers?—the transcript mainly frames “Chad” as the co-host). They debate football matchups and coaching moves throughout.

Key claims

  • Indiana dominated “trenches” (offensive/defensive line) and forced turnovers; Oregon never threatened after early momentum.
  • Fernando Mendoza was “sensational”: 17/20, 177 yards, 5 TDs; pinpoint accuracy and back-shoulder/high-point throws.
  • Harbaugh wants 20M/year, 10M staff budget, roster control, and to select his own GM; Cleveland would likely grant it due to desperation for a culture/quarterback reset.
  • Ravens hiring Stefanski is questioned because defense needs major improvement (pass rush, linebackers, corners, right guard).

Notable examples

  • Mendoza’s first-play pick (25-yard return) and Indiana’s 35-unanswered-run after Oregon’s tie.
  • Harbaugh contract comparison to Andy Reid’s 20M/year.
  • Ravens defensive issues: lack of pressure and inability to protect when Lamar is out.

Hey, one thing about it, my grandma always say, boy, as long as somebody owe you, baby, you'll never be broke. 14:26Shannon Sharpe:hey pick yourself savage roll up on you it is what it is feel me

14:35hey 57 hey i like that one boy that's a good one right there boy that's a good one right there 57 savage okay i like that

14:48Oh, shiesty shape, right?

14:52Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, that's a good one, boy. Indiana Hoosier blow out the Oregon Ducks by the score of 56-22. The Hoosiers will face, now there's only two, Indiana Hoosiers will face the Miami Hurricanes for the national championship on January the 19th. Indiana has beaten its two playoff opponents by the combined score of 94-25. The blowout started early in the game. D 'Angelo Pons, who came on the show earlier this year, picked off Devontae Moore on the first offensive series of the game, returned it 25 yards. Oregon tied the game up. Moore showed me something because he threw a pick, and then he came back and answered.

15:29Shannon Sharpe:And then IU went on a 35-unanswered run, point run, and that was really the ballgame. Just too many turnovers. Indiana's just far too good. They're a very well-coached team. Offensive line, defensive line took the ballgame over. And those receivers, they don't have big names, but they catch everything. They high point everything. This was a really, really well-coached football team. They're really disciplined. And I know everybody's talking about the U's back, but you got the hands full, Locho. Yeah, absolutely. Not only did they have their hands full, University of Miami, what we saw from them when they played last night is they had turnovers.

16:10They had turnovers. And this is the exact same thing. I felt when it came to this game, it would come down to not only the quarterback playing Dante Moore and brother Mendoza, but it would also come down to the turnovers. And lo and behold, the first game, the first play of the game, the goddamn outright, quick out route, mind you, he already in the gun. So the goddamn DB is not moving.

16:33Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, you can't do that, man. He throws it late and throws it behind. Oh, Joe, you see them rotate, safety shoes back, they rock, go down to the other side. that's man free uh-huh he's off he's clueling he don't even get out his back panel didn't even he didn't even budge didn't even all they did they put him in motion what now because if you think about because he he tried to run a speed yeah he tried to run a speed out speed out yeah db pawns would just he took one step and drove he ran out and up you said with him but you ran out oh yeah yeah it's unfortunate carson bank is going to have to play not not not saying play perfect he's going to have to be able to damn near perfect you can't you can't turn the ball they put so much pressure on your own both sides of the bar ocho they got a front they dominate both lines of scrimmage and that's what that's what the you tries to do so it's to be irmovable object irresistible force something's got to give yeah absolutely hey hey i remember watching mendoza down here in miami god damn it i remember watching mendoza down here in miami at columbus high school i didn't know mendoza would be what he is today i had no idea he would be this good if you look at some of the throws he was able to make some of the throws that that attribute to some of the quarterbacks that let you know they're going to be good.

18:08He's throwing a goddamn comeback route off the left half to the wide side of the field on the money. His ball placement all game long was phenomenal. On those same plays with Dante Moore through interceptions at the beginning of the game, every out route he threw, whether it was on the short side or the wide side of the field, the ball placement was perfect. Throwing receivers open.

18:30Shannon Sharpe:even if they were covered the ball placement back shoulders high but the receivers Ocho you see how they high point the ball oh yeah I mean but it's only where his guy can catch it it's gonna be a completion or it's gonna be incomplete it's not gonna be picked and no balls even came close to getting picked uh and he was he was sensational all night long man I'm I'm looking at Coach Signet on the sideline. If he's like this and they're winning the ball game, I hate to see him when he gets upset. Yeah. Hey, he don't show no kind of emotion. He got his hands on his heel. What's up with that? I'm like, are you happy?

19:13Hey, the camera pan to him after a touchdown, he showed nothing. The sideline going crazy behind him, stone cold killer face. That's it.

19:23Shannon Sharpe:But Mendoza was very good. The job is not finished. Go ahead. No, so go ahead. What are you saying? No, I was just saying the job is not finished. That's the mentality and the mindset and his body language. That's what it showed. The job's not finished. There's no reason for me to be celebrating. Oh, yeah. You can celebrate that. I mean, you can't get to the job if you didn't finish this job. I mean, all that means you have another task. It's kind of like when you're growing up, if you grow up on the farm, there's always something for you to do. You can move the animals from one pen to another.

19:54Shannon Sharpe:You can grind feed. There's always something for you to do. But you must finish said task first before you move on to another task. So win the Big Ten. Okay, get to the Big Ten championship. He won that. He won the first, you know, get a bye, and then they win the next game. So now you advance to the Chick-fil-A peach bowl. Now the ultimate. You get to play for the national championship, something you've never won. You've never been in that situation. and they're a good team. He's an unbelievable. This might be, I mean, they might need to do a story because we've never seen a turnaround happen this quick.

20:31Shannon Sharpe:Not with a team that's been this historically bad. I mean, they've been historically bad. I'm talking about historically, historically. I'm talking about like bad news bears bad. Hold on. The funny thing about it, Indiana's a basketball school, huh? This is a basketball school. When is the last time we've seen a basketball school dominate like this the entirety of a season? No, we haven't. The entirety of the season and beat everyone. I'm not sure if a lot of people, if they were gamblers, if they were bettors and they bet on college football, how many people had Indiana to be in this position throughout the season?

21:06How many to be able to make it, to be undefeated, to be playing in a national championship in Miami?

21:12Shannon Sharpe:Before Peyton Manning got to Indy, they were known for basketball in the Indy 500. Right. Then Peyton Manning come and then all of a sudden they got excited about football. And he gave them a reason to be excited. Yes. But this story, IU football, and to be in this position, one win away from winning a national championship and had to go through the gauntlet, because it's a little bit more difficult now. Because now you have 12 teams, you have to win multiple games in order to get to a national championship. Once you win, you know, you win your division, you go to your championship, the said division, you win that.

21:49Shannon Sharpe:And normally, up until a few years ago, you played for the national championship. You ranked one or two, you played for the national championship. It's not like that anymore. You get a bias. So you have to win three games to win a national championship. After you go through your regular season, after you get to your conference championship, now you got to win three games in order to be. So we'll know the real. It ain't no more. Man, such and such should have been in there. And if they'd have been in there, they'd have done this. Now, you win three games, you the champ. Oh, yeah. You got ample opportunity.

22:20You got ample time. Man, I'm sick of this camera. You got ample opportunity to be able to prove yourself and your worth if you make it to the playoffs and you make it to the national championship. The fact that Mendoza gets to come back home and play in front of his home crowd in front of the place where he's from, you know, I mean, it's going to be dope. But listen, Mendoza is going to have his hands full and Hurricane is going to have his hands full. I know the pressure is on Carson Benz. Oh, yeah. I know the pressure's on him and all those interceptions. For one, the turnovers. You can't turn the ball over.

22:52And they have to capitalize. If those opportunities present themselves defensively, you got to catch some interceptions this game.

22:58Shannon Sharpe:No, you can't. You're going to have to. We saw what happened, Ocho. Mendoza put the ball on the ground twice and they didn't get neither one of them. Neither one, yeah. And they ended up getting points out of both of them. I didn't understand. Oregon, okay, you're already backed up. You take a delay of game penalty to get backed up even further and now you let's the guy come in they only rush two guys and you let one of the guy block the point yeah i i i i'm trying to figure out what i'm saying hold on you already backed up why would you take a delay a game this game basically once it was seven seven that was the last time this game was interesting i thought it was gonna be i thought it was gonna go back and forth huh especially after the interception in oregon and i mean oregon got the ball and they went right down the field right down the field at will i'm like oh okay you know what this is gonna be a long night and it's gonna be a scoring fest excuse me back and forth yeah i was fooled um i was later i was led astray oregon couldn't get any pressure on mendoza

24:07Shannon Sharpe:couldn't he was pinpoint accurate sirot becker uh those guys cooper jr i mean he was just spreading around you get a day you get a catch you get a catch mm-hmm hell they bought pawns and let him catch a pass

24:27Shannon Sharpe:it's uh hey boy these are you through some beautiful you know these are the um both quarterbacks in this game Mendoza is projected to be number one more is projected to be number two I mean I I can see why yeah I I can see why and obviously I wasn't that high on Mendoza obviously because you you watch you watch Indiana play but I didn't know he was this good now that the spotlight is on him it's a pressure situation and you have to show up when it matters most and he played phenomenal he played phenomenal so obviously if he's going to the Raiders based on some of the throws I saw him make tonight, where you put some pieces around the quarterback I saw tonight at the next level, he's going to be all right.

25:08Shannon Sharpe:You better put some offensive linemen around him. He's definitely going to be all right. Yeah, that's part of the pieces too. The most important, the most important at that. You got to get him a receiver. Just one, just one to go with Brock Bowers. He's going to be all right. I agree. I agree with you.

25:28Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, this guy, we were hoping for what we got last night a very interesting ball game excuse me i got hiccup uh it was interesting for about seven minutes that's about it seven minutes and that was it ocho and it was a blowout from there i mean once it got to the half oh it was 34 it was 35 7 at the half yeah hey hey hey chat And it was 35-7 at the half. At that point, I tweeted, you know, is it okay for me to take a nap? Or will Oregon have an opportunity to come back? And obviously, it's college football. Anything can happen. You know, momentum shifts. The pendulum shifts at some point. And another team catches fire.

26:12And, you know, at no point did Oregon threat or even have a chance to actually come back in this game. And, you know, it sucks. I thought it would have been similar to the situation of the game last night. It was very exciting. But hell, you didn't want to blink. You didn't want to leave your seat to even go to the bathroom because you might miss something. That's what I thought this game would be after the way it started out, even with the interception at the beginning of the game and seeing Oregon respond and go right down the field and score. It just didn't happen. It just didn't happen. Indiana looked very good.

26:46Most of these games, especially games of this magnitude, when it comes to when teams are of equal value and quality and skill, the games are winning the trenches. The games are won up front, and that's exactly where Indiana dominated on both sides of the ball, up front. And so it's going to be a good one. It's going to be a good challenge for the hurricane. It's going to be a good challenge for Indiana, you know, because I think the winner of this game is going to be whoever wins the battle of the trenches and also whichever quarterback makes the least amount of mistakes. And that's who wins the game.

27:19I would love for the University of Miami to win, but I'm also cheering for Fernando Mendoza in Indiana because he is here. He's a hometown Florida kid, so I'm excited. I'm excited for the game.

27:34Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I mean, watching Mendoza, I've watched him a lot more down the stretch. Excuse me, as Indiana got closer and closer, and it looked like they were going to be on a collision course with Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship. You knew they were going to get into the playoffs whether they won the Big Ten Championship or not because they had been ranked number two for such a long period of time. Excuse me. I'm sorry, Chad. I got the hiccups. But with that being said, watching him, I'm like, okay. Yeah, all right. But watching him against Ohio State when he really needed to make throws, watching him how just blitzed Alabama, how they just blitzed Oregon.

28:13Yeah. Yeah.

28:20the canes better be on their best behavior ocho yeah oh they're gonna be all right this kid

28:26Shannon Sharpe:this kid is on a joe burrow type run you remember what joe burrow did i like i like the comparison i i like the comparison obviously that 2019 joe burrow was elite based on the numbers he put up that season going to the natty winning the natty but the numbers he put up was unbelievable. So you understood when it's certain times you can look at a quarterback in college, and you can tell if what he does in college is going to be able to translate to the NFL. And you knew watching Joe Burrow, no matter where he went, as bad as the Bengals might've been, he going to have success wherever he goes. Well, you look at what he got and they got one of his receivers that he had in college.

29:09Shannon Sharpe:They got chase to join it. Yes. You look at chase had like 20 touchdowns. Jefferson had like 17 touchdowns. They had Marshall. They had Thaddeus Moss. They had Clyde that was hilarious. They had the best offensive line in football. They had a defense with Queen and Stingley Jr. And all those guys. From a talent standpoint, IU doesn't have that. Now, do I think IU is maybe have the coaching advantage? Yeah. Yeah. I like Ed Orgion. I like him. But Signetti is upper level. You can make a case that he and Kirby Smart, Kirby Smart, and he are the best two coaches in college football. Ryan Day's in that.

29:50Shannon Sharpe:But to do that, what he's done with that team, I mean, look, going to Ohio State and taking over that, come on, you're going to get blue chip guys. Going over to Georgia and taking over that, you're going to get guys. Go take over Alabama or something. You go, bro, that's Indiana. That's IU. Yeah. Is it safe to say Coach Nieti's done more with less? Yeah, for sure. In a sense? Okay. I bet they're going now. That's dope.

30:38If you are there.

30:40Shannon Sharpe:It begs to be seen in a packed theater. Please remember to clean up the blood. Wow. They will kill you. Now playing only in theaters. Rated R. 34:03Oh,

34:04Shannon Sharpe:according to ESPN's Cleveland, Tony grassy, the full list of demands are 20 mil per year, a 10 million staff budget, total authority over the roster and would like to select his own GM.

34:22That's not a bad thing, especially for somebody like Harbaugh that knows what he's going to need. If I'm going to Cleveland, I know what I need in this room to be able to succeed. I know what I need in this room to be able to compete in the AFC North, let alone compete week in and week out in the NFL. I don't, I'm a Super Bowl winning coach. And these are the things I need to have a competent team and also get me a quarterback to be able to compete. Some of you guys have not been able to do for umpteen years.

34:49Shannon Sharpe:I think if I'm not mistaking, only Andy Reid makes 20 million a year. Right. What? Six Super Bowl appearances, three wins. six, seven straight AFC Championship games. We understand why he's making that kind of money. We'll see. Teams that are desperate, he is a proven commodity. He's done a great job. But like I said, you see what he wants. He wants control over the – this is why Jerry's never going to get a coach. I mean, I think Shadi is doing a great job. Now, if they can build that defense because Shadi can call plays, Dak loves him, offense loves him, very friendly. But you're not getting a coach like this to coach in Dallas because you got no say.

35:33Shannon Sharpe:All you do is have that title. I'm the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry's going to put who he wants on that team. Jerry's going to draft who he wants. You're not going to have any say so. He says, I want total – he didn't say some, like to have some input. He says total authority over the Final 53. Yeah. They're going to give it to him because it's almost in a situation where the Cleveland Browns are not only desperate for a head coach that wants to turn the culture around in general, but it takes you back to the situation with Deshaun Watson where they were desperate to have a quarterback who had done what he had done previously with the Houston Texans.

36:13Oh, you mean to tell me we get to get this in our building? Well, you know what we're going to do? We're going to throw everything in the kitchen sink at them and hoping we get just that. Now, we know things didn't pan out, things didn't work out the way, we thought they would have. I'm sure the Browns would have liked it to. I'm sure Deshaun Watson would have liked it to work out too that same way. Now you have the opportunity with John Harbaugh to get a winning coach, one that needs full control because he understands what he needs as a team to be able to compete.

36:44Shannon Sharpe:So it's going to be – I think the Giants is the best situation because they have the most stable quarterback situation. They have a defense. You know, you got a Brian Burns. You got a Dexter Lawrence. You just took Abdul Carter with the third pick in the draft. You probably need, you know, some corners. You definitely, you know, build that offensive lineup.

37:09Shannon Sharpe:But I don't think they're going to stand pat at receiver either, don't you? I thought Rondell Robinson had a great, great year. Hey, he did. He showed he can play. But I think they're going to probably go get – try to get – try to beef up that position.

37:28Shannon Sharpe:Look, I agree with you. I think somebody's going to give him back. I think it's going to be the Giants. Yeah. Because you want – first of all, it ain't that much. I mean, because what you call them, the Ravens is on the hook for like 13, 14 of it, so you just got to add six to the pot. That's it. You good. You good to go. You just got to add six to the pot. Because how was it with his contract extension that he signed this March? because he had just signed an extension, Ocho. I think a three-year extension. Right. So,

38:05Shannon Sharpe:but I've said it once. I've said it again, and hopefully this is the last time I have to say it. On the hook for$34 million, Ocho. Woo!

38:19Shannon Sharpe:So that makes it, you make it 17. You ain't got to pitch in with three. Yeah, that's not a little chug of change right there. So he's going to want a five-year deal,$263 million, because y 'all doing it three the first two years, and then I'm going to need that 20 the next three. $10 million staff budget, because you're going to have to pay an office and defensive coordinator a million, million, five. Yeah. Depending on who you get as a coordinator, you might have to go all the way up to two.

38:55Shannon Sharpe:but as I was saying, I think John Harbaugh is a very good coach. I just think that the players need to hear another voice in that locker room. I think his message needs to be conveyed to another group of ears in their locker room. Right. It happens sometimes. It happens. Yeah. Bro, think about the Patriots moved on from coach Belichick. Yeah. After 20. Yeah. nobody in the history of the game has had a stretch of success like the Patriots had from 2001 until 2019. Nobody. Nobody. If Mr. Kraft don't win another game, he should be able to say, you know what, I don't care about winning no more. I'm good.

39:45Shannon Sharpe:Because he bought the team, they went to the Super Bowl in 1996, they lost to the Packers, but they went like two, a couple of years after he purchased the team. How many divisions consecutive times they won the division? Like 13, 14, 15 times they won the division. Multiple. Nine times they've gone to the Super Bowl. Man. Sometimes you just need a different voice. I need a new voice, Ocho.

40:17Shannon Sharpe:Now, all of a sudden, what Mike Preston, everybody, where we don't believe, we don't like Mike Preston. He don't have no credibility. Now, all of a sudden, that thing looked very prophetic. Yeah, absolutely. But people have to understand. They don't understand. They have to put their fandom aside. They have to put their fandom aside and say, you know what, we don't like this individual that writes for this specific news outlet because X, Y, and Z was said in the past. Anytime something that is written by reporters that are not inside that building it's coming from inside the building people need to need to understand that always it always happens like this so anytime you see things written like this and the first thing you say oh who is he he's not credible yes he is that stuff is purposely leaked and it's always to start a small fall a small fire and that's that small fire at some point it turned into if i don't like you ocho you could give me the winning numbers to the lottery and i wouldn't do it if I love you you tell me if you go outside you will get hit by back truck I'm going outside we see that today with the man at the very top in this democracy yes I don't know how much longer is gonna be a democracy but it is currently you see it doesn't matter what he says it doesn't matter what he does they love him right it doesn't matter you I so because they didn't like Mike Preston they automatically disregarded I bid damn yeah Todd Munkin said he and Lamar didn't have the best relationship if I'm not mistaken didn't Mike speak to that yeah what normally happens is that the offensive coordinator is the buffer between the player and the head coach it's not normally the other way with a head coach is the buffer between player and offensive coordinator it was a situation I lived it in Denver.

42:20Shannon Sharpe:Mike Shanahan was the offensive coordinator. Coach Reese was the head coach. John Elway was the quarterback. Well, he said he don't like that. He said, well, this is what we want to do. Well, he said he don't want to run that. You got to have a goal between them. Yeah, that ain't going to work out. Not for long. Because you're going to have to remove one of them. And it definitely ain't going to be a player. Not a player that magnitude. No. They thought about trading. They thought about trading, John. They were going to trade him to Washington. Yeah. That's when Mr. B's like, I'm done with this.

43:04Shannon Sharpe:Right. Put a stop at that. But I think Harms would be great in Washington. I mean, excuse me, in New York. Now, that's not to stop other teams. but he knows in order to win, you've got to have a quarterback. You're not going to win a Super Bowl like you did before. When you get Flacco, he gets hot down the stretch, and he plays great for four or five games, and then you have an outstanding defense to back him up. That's over. You're not winning like that. You need that guy. Critics and audiences agree. What the hell is this place? Only three letters describe they will kill you. W.T.F. Splendid.

46:59Shannon Sharpe:The Ravens announced today that they have completed an interview with Kevin Stefanski for their head coach position. Ocho, could you see Stefanski and Lamar being a good fit? Hmm. I mean, obviously what happened with Stefanski in Cleveland, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I'm able to compartmentalize in a sense and seeing him over there in Baltimore with Lamar and knowing that Stefanski, he's an offensive mind, right? If I'm not mistaken. Listen, he's an offensive mind, So I'm not sure how that process would work. I know some of the games he was able to play with Shador, and in that environment, he won't be able to play those same games with Lamar over in Baltimore.

47:44I think he could have some success again doing what he does in Baltimore. I still just don't see. I think more so I think Lamar in that offense will be okay and will be fine once Lamar is back healthy. I think there still will be issues even if Stefanski is the head coach when the issues on the defense haven't addressed. Yeah, the issues on the defense aren't addressed. It's still going to be the same thing.

48:11Shannon Sharpe:Everything. First of all, for me, if I'm Brian Flores, that's a lateral move. Why would I go be the defensive coordinator somewhere or go to Dallas, go to Baltimore? I'm still a defensive coordinator. I want to be a head coach. I'm not interested in doing anything lateral. I'm trying to go up. I ain't trying to go like this, Ocho.

48:34Shannon Sharpe:So they're probably going to interview Brian Flores. But you got to get – look, you got Lamar Jackson. You got – you can hire a defensive-minded coach as long as you have a great play caller. You see Seattle, McDonald, and then he has Clint Kubiak. Yes. You can be that. Everybody, look, first of all, everybody ain't going to be Sean McVay. Everybody ain't going to be Kyle Shanahan. Everybody can't be Andy Reid. That's a lot to be the head coach. I oversee everything, and I call plays. Call the plays, yeah. You know, Shadi, Brian Schottenheimer, he does that. But most of the time, you know, hey, I delegate it.

49:14Shannon Sharpe:Hey, you see Nick Sariani. You see Dan Quinn. You see a lot of these coaches. Hey, I'm going to delegate. Hey, you do that and make sure everything's okay. But to delegate and to be able to call plays, that's a huge, huge responsibility.

49:33Shannon Sharpe:Look, they're going to look at – if I'm then I'm looking at Cliff Kingsbury. But Cliff doesn't want to run the football enough. I think that's what him and Dan Quinn's butted heads about. Right. You can't keep exposing your quarterback like that. Like that, yeah. You got Derrick Henry. Yeah, he calls him to get hurt. Yeah, and also, you know, now everybody will have this kind of luxury, but John Harbaugh had been there so long, he didn't have no intermediary. He only talked directly to Steve Bishotti. Right. So everybody don't have that. Andy probably got it like that. Sean probably got it like that.

50:18Yeah, those coaches that approve. Yeah, yeah. Those coaches that approve and have it like that.

50:24Shannon Sharpe:but the thing is, it don't matter who you get to call defensive play. They got to get better players on the Ravens' defense. That defensive line got to get better. They got to get better, Ocho. Linebackers, the corner, we went through the stats. They didn't generate pressure. The back end can no longer hold up like they once could, and it's shooting fish in a barrel.

50:49I get it because a lot of times,

50:52Shannon Sharpe:and we've seen this before, is that when you have a guy like Lamar, you forget you got Derrick Henry behind him. Okay. Lamar's okay. Lamar just wants to win. Yeah. And in a given game, Derrick Henry presents the best opportunity for us to win. Y 'all think Lamar's going to be upset about his stats? Absolutely not. Go back and look at the first one that we won. Look at John's stats. maybe 150 yards and a pick.

51:27Shannon Sharpe:You win that one game, it changes the way people perceive you. Whether you play good, bad, or indifferent. Go back and look at Tom Brady's first game in the Super Bowl. That was all defense, huh? That was all defense. I think the thing, look, they've got to get somebody that knows how to coach an offense that Lamar can succeed in. that he got Derrick Henry behind him. Right. I thought Todd Munkin did a great job of coordinating this thing. I mean, think about it. Derrick Henry gets there his first year. He goes over 1 ,900 yards, almost, what, 17, 18 touchdowns, follows up with another almost 1 ,600 yards, another 1 ,4, 1 ,6 touchdowns.

52:12Shannon Sharpe:Lamar goes MVP 41-4, gets Nick this year. I think that had a lot to do with it. And when he came back, he wasn't himself. but their problem was they couldn't finish, they get leads they just couldn't close the deal Ocho and so Steve was like you know what and I know it's reported that the front office was like nah Steve but Steve was like no

52:43Shannon Sharpe:and once you make up your mind that's the direction that you want to go in you want to move in another direction you don't become as wealthy as these men are with being indecisive. Yeah. You make a decision and you live with said decision. It's of the utmost that they get better players for the defense. They've got to get a right guard. They've got to get a right guard. He just, I mean, ooh.

53:19Shannon Sharpe:Man. He had a decent game the last game of the season. No, he didn't, Ocho. Did you not see this man? He thought he was a cross guard. He directed kids at an elementary school. Oh, we were standing there in no man's land, looking for somebody. He got his hands out like this and both of them go past him. I like this.

53:44Shannon Sharpe:And if, I mean, but think about it, Ocho. And the problem that they had is when Lamar went down, they put Cooper Rush in. Cooper Rush is an athletic. So he can't get out of harm's way like Huntley. He can't get out of harm's way like Lamar. And you see what happened? But they got to fix this thing. Steve is –

54:13Shannon Sharpe:and Harb should have known. Mm-hmm. Bro, defense, bro, that's the foundation of the Ravens. Always has been. That's the foundation. Yeah, you can score all the points you want. As great as Tom Brady was, that defense, look at his defense that he had. Those were top ten defenses. Mm-hmm. Keep them in the ball game. Okay, Tom, win it at the end. He never let, for the most, Tom never let those defenses, never let the game get out of hand. think about it when they were down 28-3 how many points did Atlanta score in the second half none they had 28 at the half and guess what they had at the end of the game 28 so you look at the greatest show on turf they scored 17 points the Rams that year they were going up and down the field on everybody 3 points it's going to be very important to get somebody that can coach Lamar and put him in the best situation so they succeed that's of the utmost but everybody's going to come in and say oh yeah I got this great scheme oh Lamar's going to be yada yada everybody I'm trying to sell myself I'm on a job interview oh I'm more than qualified I got five degrees putting your best foot forward no I don't think Stefanski is the right fit for Baltimore.

55:46Shannon Sharpe:I could be wrong. I don't think he's the right fit. Obviously, he knows that division. Having coached in that division, what, six, seven years, he knows the division, knows the personnel in Cleveland, but I don't think that's a good fit, me personally. Right. But Ocho, they got to get defensive help. that's what they need Ocho they need that bad big time uh

56:19Shannon Sharpe:they're gonna be some changes they're gonna be some some players that's been lifelong Ravens and I'm not so sure that they're gonna be they're gonna be they're gonna be there or be there in a lesser role but they need pass rushes Ocho they need pass rushes in the absolute worst way oh he got me sick I believe so well you got oh you got a cold yeah yeah oh man yeah I think George or somebody got me sick oh man but uh we'll see our plans out I mean I think they're gonna look they got time I mean who's in the rush to hire somebody. I mean, you just probably let the best coach that's on the market, you let him go.

57:16Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. So, like I said, I think they'll bring Brian Flores in. I'm trying to think, who else got let go? Maybe they'll bring Cliff Kingsbury in. Cliff normally works really good with young quarterbacks. You see when he had Kyler. Kyler was rookie of the year. He had Jane Daniels. Jane Daniels, rookie of the year. I don't know how he does with a veteran quarterback, but hey. But he just doesn't run the ball enough. I think that's what rubbed Dan Quinn the wrong way. He put so much pressure on the quarterback. And you have a tendency to do that when you have such an elite level at that. But look at Josh Allen.

57:59Shannon Sharpe:Turn it right ahead to James Cook. Look what Saquon did for the Eagles last year. yeah and even Christian McCaffrey they'll hand it to him they'll throw it to him a lot of those passes it's not like McCaffrey's catching balls 30 yards down the field he's catching Texas routes he's catching flat routes he's catching screens give it to him let him lighten the load on the quarterback Ocho with the Seahawks locking up the number one seed let's compare Sam Donald's stats year over year in 2024 he was 14-3 in 2025. He's 14-3. With the Vikings, he had 4 ,319 pass yards. With the Seahawks, he had 4 ,048 pass yards.

58:49Shannon Sharpe:He had 35 passing touchdowns with the Vikes, 25 with the Seahawks, 12 interceptions with the Vikes, 14 with the Seahawks. He had a passing rating of 102.5 with the Vikes, 99.1 with the Seahawks.

59:07Shannon Sharpe:clearly how much do you think the vikes are regretting letting him get out the building for the little bit of money and we we say a little bit of money it's not that 40 50 55 60 million dollars that the top tier they probably could have had him right for 30 plus incentives well they got to be pissed huh they got to be pissed and obviously i think you know because they picked JJ McCarthy. He was hurt his rookie year. We have no choice but to test our hand on who we drafted. Let's see if he's the answer. Let's see what he has. You know, and obviously seeing JJ McCarthy when he was at Michigan, they ran the ball most of the time.

59:52They were a running team. They were a running team. And so now you're getting the product of what you drafted and hoping it would be better than what you already had and you let get outside the door. Sam Don had already proved himself what he could do with the weapons you had around him. And then not only that, he leaves, he goes to Seattle and picks right up where he left off at. And that alone tells you everything you need to know.

1:00:17Shannon Sharpe:I would have let it run. You got great reference. Green Bay, when they had Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers sought for a couple of years. Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love sought for a couple of years. Yes, sir. I'd have ran it back at least one more. Shoot, one? Shoot, I would have ran it back. But I'm saying, yeah, you can do the cover, but I'm just saying, I'd run it back, I'd run it back, at least at the bare middle, you got to bring him back after the season that he had. You let a guy that won 14 games, threw 35 touchdowns, 4 ,300 yards, and you let him walk out the door, and you don't get nothing for it?

1:00:59you know in comparison to Sam Donald's numbers that year with the Vikings what were J.J. McCarthy's numbers this year with the Vikings he was hurt most of the time not even close

1:01:11Shannon Sharpe:hell he might not even throw him for 10 touchdowns this year damn and hurt remember he missed his whole hurt first year and then he had a hamstring issue Then he hurt his hand. So... Yeah, it's unlucky. And there's a good chance, I don't know how certain they are that he's the guy. Are they certain that J.J. McCarthy is the guy? Listen, he has three, most of the time they give you three years. Yeah. That third year? Because you got to make a decision. normally that's when they come that's when they come back to you and when you the guy Josh Allen you look at my homeboy and that's when they come and say okay he got one more year he got one more year under his belt to prove himself are you the future if not you know the NFL not for long especially for that quarterback position because every team understands unless I have one I have no chance And Daniel Jones.

1:02:24Remember, they had Daniel Jones there. Oh, that's right. That's right. I forgot he had a little stint there. Hey, and that comes down to situations matter. The situations matter. You was in New York, and you had flashes. You had flashes, but not the consistency we saw when you went to goddamn Indy. Nope. Right? Turn that damn franchise around, man.

1:02:47Shannon Sharpe:Coaching matters. Yeah, yes. and you know you hear all the great players you hear uh montana and you hear aikman and you hear guys that that played that level played that position at an elite level they talk about how coaching matters they talks about how organization matters choice choice still upset that jerry got rid of jimmy oh yeah he said i don't know he said uh we might have not won any we might have won two or three we might have not won none he said but i just know we the one we'd have won a bunch of games because Jimmy knows how to coach and Jimmy knows how to put a team together. That's what Jimmy knows how to do.

1:03:28Shannon Sharpe:He can do that. Right. But Sam Darnold, he's look, look 14 and three. There ain't been a whole lot of guys. There's never been a guy that won 14 games with one team in the next year leaves, goes and does 14 wins with another team. That's never happened. Cause normally when a guy wins 14 games, he ain't leaving. Oh yeah, absolutely not. But Hey, It is what it is. The Seahawks reportedly sent out a warning to season ticket holders that selling playoff tickets may impact their ability to renew season tickets for next season. Playoff tickets resale notice. Our records indicate that your seat for the upcoming divisional round of the playoffs are currently posted for resale.

1:04:08Shannon Sharpe:As communicated prior to the 2025 season, 2026 renewal eligibility may be impacted if it is determined that sees your season tickets, including any playoff games, were used primarily for resale purposes. To avoid any impact to your renewal eligibility, we ask that you remove your resale listing and ensure your tickets are used by another 12th, meaning 12th man, another Seahawk fan. We encourage you to distribute your tickets directly to friends, family members, neighbors, or community groups that will help us pack Lumen and Field with blue and green. Don't try to make no extra buck off of us now.

1:04:53If you're going to support, support all the way. Don't try to make no money.

1:04:57Shannon Sharpe:Because a lot of times, you know what they do, Ocho? I said, look, the Cowboys coming. What I sell these Cowboys tickets for, I'll be able to buy the whole season. Oh. Just the playoffs. I'll be able to say the whole season. hey listen they thinking just like owners think they think it's just like owners think that bottom line how can i maximize my earning potential with these tickets well hell i ain't got to go to the game but i can set myself up for future games next year come on now that's what they're thinking but you know the fire princess we we get to determine we could at any point in time revoke that we see you put these tickets up that's why you're responsible for anybody that's in your seat he the guy he or she misbehave they throw beer they hurl racial slurs or whatever the case may be right yeah you're responsible for whomever than that seat right you think the seahawks would do that though to the to those who are seating ticket old seating ticket holders i think the thing you know they're trying to scare them they don't want to do that oh yeah right um yeah and I don't really see him enforcing that.

1:06:10I think scare him, yes. Actually enforcing it if you resell your tickets to someone else, that's tough.

1:06:17Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

1:06:21Shannon Sharpe:I don't want to do it, Ocho. Because I don't know what their wait list is. Their wait list is not like Green Bay, Washington, the Broncos, teams like that that got 30, 40 year waiting list to get on this. Right. In a lot of them, when you're in those cities, they pass those things down to the family, through the family. Right. But you know what? Right now, the funny thing about it is when you're winning, those waiting lists are long. Yes. So right now with the way they're playing in Seattle with Sam Darnold, JSN having the year he did with that defense that they have, oh, it's people in line waiting.

1:07:02Shannon Sharpe:People talk about how they know. you do realize they know who sits in what seats so when they go check and they're like okay these seats oh these seats belong to such and such you're selling them yeah they know everything is well documented you know it is well documented especially if you're a season ticket holder all the information that you fill out oh cho oh they know who you are they don't you know they know where the seats are who what season ticket holder is sitting in what seats so all they got to do okay uh section 104 seats three and four section seat right for sale section 104 seat three and four section seat oh you got the tickets for sale yeah oh that's that's tom and that's tom and susan yes oh they trying oh they trying to reset thank you Okay.

1:07:55Okay. I see what type of time y 'all are on.

1:07:58Shannon Sharpe:That's why the NFL, that's why the tickets are so high for the Super Bowl. The NFL saw how much people were willing to pay for resale Super Bowl tickets. They say if you're willing to pay that, we'll just go ahead and slap that fee on you right now then. Since you were paying, we'll go ahead and hit you over the head for 5K. We'll go ahead and hit you over the head for 10K, 15K. Since you're willing to pay it on the black market. I would pay it up front. There you go. There you go. It's just like anything, Ocho. You get an apartment, you can't sublease it.

1:08:34Shannon Sharpe:No, bro. Yeah. A lot of times, you can't have other people over there without clearing it through the leasing agency. Yes, sir. Because they don't want no issues.
