In short
Nightcap Podcast episode reviewing UFC Freedom 250 fights, focusing on Justin Gaethje’s title upset, Ciryl Gane’s win over Alex Pereira, Sean O’Malley’s TKO, and Josh “Hokey” Hoke’s TKO finish over Derrick Lewis, plus discussion of potential future matchups and fighter pay.
Guests
The episode features three hosts/regulars: Chad Ochocinco Johnson (former NFL player), Artie (former pro bowler and all-pro; described as a football analyst), and “ISO” (a 6’7” Arkansas shooting guard; presented as a co-host/third member).
Key claims
- Gaethje executed his plan—jab early, punish on entries, and finish before the fight went long—winning the undisputed lightweight title by knockout over Ilya Topuria.
- Gane dominated Pereira with superior power/levels and is expected to target Tom Aspinall next.
- O’Malley used reach and a jab to set up a left/right sequence for an easy TKO; he called out Peter Yan.
- Hoke looked “on another level,” and Lewis looked poor, with Hokey’s age/conditioning and Lewis’s inability to land framed as decisive.
Notable examples
- Gaethje’s jab and uppercut timing; Topuria’s pleading to the ref and near-stoppage by doctors.
- Discussion of Jon Jones vs. Ngannou and Jones vs. Aspinall/Gane.
- Hokey’s post-fight Michelle Obama comment and debate over politics in sports.

7:55Shannon Sharpe:Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and thank you for joining us. UFC Freedom 250 was everything it had to be. Nothing went to the cards. Dana could not have asked for better matchups. Justin Gaethje, guys, if you saw the interview last week, he told you what he was going to do. He said, I'm going to make that pretty face. I'm going to make it ugly. And I'm going to walk out of there with the belt. He did exactly what he said he was going to do. And I'm going to do everything in my power to get him back on this week this week to tell us how he did it because he said he would come back on. So I'm going to reach out to Dana and try to get him back on.
8:29Shannon Sharpe:But he was phenomenal. I knew this fight wasn't going to distance, Ocho, the way they were throwing hands in the first round. I'm like, ain't no way, Joe, this going to distance. Ain't no way in hell. But I thought the poor was going to get him out of there because he's some mean body shots in the second, Ocho. I'm talking about he was digging to the liver. But give Justin Gaethje credit. You made the USA fly, bro. You made me say proud. Thank you, Jordy. Y 'all know who I am. I am your favorite uncle, and that is my partner and co-host. That's the Liberty City legend, the football analyst, the bingo ring of fame, Artie.

The new undisputed lightweight champ after holding the interim lightweight championship on two occasions, Gaethje finally claims the undisputed UFC championship. Tapura and Gaethje, they were swinging from the bell. but I thought Gaethje did a great job in that jab, did a number on that right eye then that overhand right just started connecting that third round and then the fourth, it's like yeah we don't see enough we don't want to see any more of this Ocho Joe, I'm going to throw it to you guys whoever want to go first can go first but having talked to Gaethje, he said he felt good you know he's going to make the weight weight's going to be no problem, then he's going to refuel, get back up Going to go in the ring about 180, I think he said 180, 185.
11:13Shannon Sharpe:But his game plan was excellent. Use the jab, punish him with the jab, catch him with coming in, and the faints. He did a great job of fainting him when he flicked, bam. He did a great job. Justin Gaethje, congratulations. Go ahead. Go ahead, Joe. Take it off. Man, listen. I thought Gaethje, listen, this is my first time watching Tepora fight. Me and my son were sitting in there watching. He was giving me the whole scoop. and Gacy was using that jab early on Ocho. I'm like, hell, Tapora can't even get up in there. He got to take a few of them before he can even get up in there. I thought the second round is what wore Tapora out because, you know, he tried to catch his breath at the end of that second round when he was on top.
11:54Shannon Sharpe:Then when the third round started, Gacy went back to that damn jab. Jab, uppercut. Next thing you know, he had the split. But he had facial damage, structural damage. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Them bones. wasn't that bone look like he's about to come out i know he got a fractional because you know his brother was like now we're gonna continue to fight but the uh he's like hell no you ain't in here as a matter of fact let me your face you take this where i take yours and i get back in yeah i see i seen structural damage but i love the game plan that geesey had bro he i thought he was just so polished with that jab but i thought to poor look like he was in great shape and get you like he was gonna kind of tie out but i mean he got the jab going bro kept his distance and then he started mixing up a little bit man i thought it was a hell of a game playing bro yeah hey it was it was a good fight i i enjoyed it obviously goddamn gate you set the tone as soon as the fight started he caught him with that stiff jab right away yes he caught him with that stiff jab right right away and obviously it was just all about moments.
12:59Each fighter had moments. I thought Gates even going to get up out of there when Teporia was hitting with the body shot. In the second round, he was digging. I'm talking about digging. Get him up out of there, but obviously he was able to catch a second win and survive. You know, when you have two strikers like that, that enjoy fighting on their feet as opposed to wrestling, which not very many people like. I mean, tonight was a really good fight. Teporia, I think when the doctor came and tried to
13:28Shannon Sharpe:He almost stopped at the end of the third. He got over the room. Yeah, he got over the room. You remember Tappura started pleading to the ref. Yeah, I'm good. Okay, then another doctor came in. It looks like, nah, nah, he good. The brother looked at him again. He's like, okay, go ahead and take this answer. I got a question, though. If Tappura wasn't the champion the way he was, do y 'all think they would have been stopped? They'd have been stopped. Yeah, they would have stopped. And obviously, you two, Unc and Joe, So you know fighters like that and a fight to this magnitude, especially for a belt, you want to go out on your shield.
14:00Even if you want to go out on your shield, you don't want to go out with a stoppage like that. Now he's getting his ass. Yes.
14:05Shannon Sharpe:And you remember at Ocho Plus at the UFC, y 'all know all it takes is a clip. All it takes is one little shot. So you're really never out of the fight because you can get clipped with something, a fist, an elbow, a kick. And guess what? I forget who Karellas fight. Like, Karellas, both of his eyes were shut, closed. And then he caught him, boom. And he losing the whole damn fight. Eyes closed. I don't even know how he saw well enough to catch him. But he caught him and ended the fight. But I thought Gaethje, like, when he did the interview, he seemed real confident. And they all do, Ocho, what you're supposed to be.
14:42Shannon Sharpe:You can't be afraid. You're supposed to exude confidence. And he exuded confidence. He said, oh, that pretty face and that nice hair, I'm going to mess on that up. He said, I'm going to mess all that up. He said, yeah, he said, he's just smug. I'm just so sick of it. I'm like, well, damn. Tell me how you really feel about the man. He said, yeah. Oh, he said, I got something for it. And he did exactly, if you think about it, everybody gone. And we're going to talk about him. What was it? He was a side paw. He walked right into a lead jam. Bam. Sugar Sean and Sugar Shane. What did he catch it with?
15:18Shannon Sharpe:A jam. he who leads wins the fight he led Gecci was phenomenal tonight we know he has dynamite he did an unbelievable job on Patti Pemblitt I was at that fight when he fought Patti and he did an unbelievable job because I guess whoever won that fight was probably in line to fight Tapura was not like I don't want to fight Gecci that's an easy win for me yada yada yada you know Patti you know Patti the baddie Well, Patty didn't show up that night. Gacy did an unbelievable job of wrestling him, taking him to the ground. This situation here, he stood up. He stood with him. And at first you see in a tight guard, he was walking him down.
16:01Shannon Sharpe:The pull was walking him down. And then Gacy like, hey, bam, just kept shooting that jab through. Bam, kept shooting that jab through. Fink, catch it with a right. Bam. After a while, I was like, well, damn, bro, you walking forward. But you're taking damage. He was, he was, he was. I'm like, well, damn, you need to sweep something up. Yeah, I thought Gacy was timing that jab every time. Okay, Ocho, every time Buddy would look like he was coming. He would throw that little jab out there, boom, every time. Let's think he knows. I said, damn, he leaking. Yeah. He started leaking. And then guess what?
16:30Shannon Sharpe:Because at first, Ocho, all he was doing was just shooting the jab. Yeah. Then he, guess what? Boom, boom. Like, hey, well, damn, there's somebody else in here? Boom, boom. And then he catch him. Now he trying to come in. and then Gacy would catch it with an uppercut. The problem is you got to be careful with throwing the uppercut from distance because you throw it from distance and miss. Hey, lead you wide open. Ask Buster Douglas. He threw the uppercut from distance. Holyfield. Yeah. Coding right over top. So you got to be careful. You need to be in tight because if you throw that uppercut from distance and he's at range, oh, you out.
17:07Shannon Sharpe:It's your lights out because you're exposed because you're here. Now you there. Yeah, you expect someone like DeProyer, obviously, to be able to change and have a game plan and be able to adjust in fight depending on what a fighter does. If you keep getting hit with the same punch over and over and over, you got to have something else. You got to have another game plan. Obviously, game plan going forward and adding pressure and getting caught with a jab, you got to adjust. You got to adjust. And he made no adjustments, it seemed like, because he kept getting hit with the same jab throughout the entire fight.
17:41Shannon Sharpe:Right. I think the thing is, Ocho, is that nobody's really faced, nobody's really fought him like this. This is the first time me seeing his face look like this in a fight. He's normally the one. I mean, Volco ran through Volco. Oliveira ran through Oliveira. He's run through everybody. And Oliveira ain't no easy win. Volco ain't no easy win. And he destroyed both of them. and so for someone to stand because he's a puncher you don't stand toe to toe with a puncher and the funny thing about it too Uncle Joe it not only is a puncher but he adds pressure he's a pressure fighter along with a puncher and most of the time that gets you flustered because now you fighting on your back foot so he was able to weather the storm in them early rounds and he set that tone with that first jab man it was a wrap from there sometimes you throw some people throw the jab as a range finder yeah okay he's close to that you know like a tongue of the snakes flicks his tongue out he's just trying to see just how close its target is some people throw the jab I'm just trying to see if you downrange that I can come over the top with it Lennox Lewis throw it to do damage Vladimir Kilitschko was more like a range finder Larry Holmes it was damage damage yeah some guys throw that jab it's just like a right hand I'm trying to do damage with it.
19:06Shannon Sharpe:I'm trying to open you up. Just in case he was throwing that jab, he was trying to do damage. Damn range finder. You close enough to take this. Bop! And it was quick. And like I said, I was like, well damn bro. I'm looking like a minute until the fight. I'm like, well damn. Is he red? Look, I understand. I'm like, damn, he red already. I said, nah, he leaking. And he just kept getting hit with it. He kept getting hit with it. and then Gacy, every time Gacy would faint, Ocho, he would do this, and Gacy would come over the top with a right. Every single time. And I'm like, bro, and see the thing is, because Tapura is so heavy-handed, in order to be heavy-handed, Ocho, you got to be on that back foot.
19:53Yeah. You got to be on that back foot.
19:56Shannon Sharpe:So if you're on that back foot, it's hard to dodge because you're looking to land something heavy. Heavy, yeah. Man, Gaethje did an unbelievable job. He did everything he said he was going to do. And considering how all the fights, I was like, well, damn. Consider what Ghan did to Piera. I'm like, well, what are they going to do to top this? Hey, hold my beer. Hold my beer. I got something fun. He's been all this talking. He's very disrespectful. He's very arrogant. And I'm just, he's like, I'm just over him.
20:34Shannon Sharpe:so this was a obviously it was delayed a little bit because anytime you have an event outside you're at the mercy of the elements you know whether you have a picnic a bridal shot whatever the case may be guys you know this whatever the case is you have something outside lord please don't let it rain please don't let it be windy please i mean you you're just hoping because you're outside you You can't control the elements. And sure enough, I mean, something, you know, it rained and they end up delaying it. But this card was phenomenal. Was phenomenal. And Cyril Ghosn, I think he's going to fight Aspinall.
21:10Shannon Sharpe:I think he says he wants that in Paris in September. Yeah. But boy. And you look at Cyril Ghosn, the way he ran through Piero, and then you look at the way Jon Jones ran through Ghosn. Hey, his levels, huh? Hey, but you talking about the best they ever do it, though. yeah man bones hey man bones man hey uh p you know what let's go ahead and talk about let's go ahead and talk copenhagen spit free packs american grown tobacco into pouches made from when your elbows deep in an engine block they're masked up torching deep cuts into stubborn pipes Her helmet's on, riding deep into backcountry. When there's no time or space to spit, grab Copenhagen's spit-free pouches.

I turned off news altogether. I hate to say it, but I don't trust much of anything. It's the rage bait. It feels like it's trying to divide people. We got clear facts. Maybe we can calm down a little. NBC News brings you clear reporting. Let's meet at the facts. Let's move forward from there. NBC News, reporting for America.
25:35Shannon Sharpe:Look, I think everybody still want to see Francis Ngannou and Bones Jones. Everybody still want to see Tom Aspinall and Bones. Yeah. I want to see because the thing is with Bones, Bones is going to neutralize what you do. Yeah, he's not that good of a boxer. I mean, he can box, but that's not what he does. Bones is looking to take you to the ground. Yes. You not finna exchange punches as a UFC fighter with Ngannou. That's what got Ngannou in trouble when he fought the big heavyweight. What's his name? The way they knocked out Paul. What's the heavyweight? The boxer. Who did he? He talking about Joshua.
Read the full transcript
26:24Shannon Sharpe:Anthony Joshua. Joshua. Joshua. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. You remember he fought. See, the thing was, he fought Joshua and struck, Brod, look here. Man, Joshua got dynamite in his hand. You can't stand toe to toe with him. His reflexes, UFC reflexes are quick, but they ain't like a boxer. A boxer throw that punch and you don't even see him. You see Adrian Barnum, when he tried to help me, you tried to give this guy boxing, this MMA fighter boxing tips, like, whoop, pop. Every time he throws a pop, that's the uppercut right there. Pop, pop, whoop, doop, doop, doop, doop, doop. Yeah. And that's what happened.
27:00Shannon Sharpe:But Cyril Ghosn was very impressive. Walked him into a southpaw open stance. Pierre came out with, you know, high leg kicks. Too much power. You know, he did take a chance, though. Pereira did take a chance. Oh, he moved up from middleweight. I mean, he was a middleweight. He was a 185er. Yeah, so he took a chance, and it might have been just too much for him. It might have been too much for him. Oh, yeah. going up that high, man, you got to be not only, you got to be skilled in other ways and just standing flat-footed and just trying to land a big punch. You got to be able to have more of your play than that.
27:40Shannon Sharpe:That's what makes Jon Jones so dangerous. Jon Jones can wrestle. Most heavyweights, what do you see them do, Ocho? They trying to land that one shot. They're not trying to take it to the mat. Taking it to the mat requires, hey, that's a lot of work. That's a lot of oxygen for somebody 250, 260 to try to wrestle, roll around. You, hey, we've all wrestled before. Wrestled for 10 seconds. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tag. Go ahead, Joe. Hey, Pierre took some tough shots, bro. A couple of elbows to the back of the head. I was like, damn, I don't know how he got back up off of that. Yeah. Hey, I thought, I just thought gone was just too much power for him, Ocho.
28:24Shannon Sharpe:He looked like Garn was in peak shape. He looked faster. He looked really good. You know what I mean? He just looked like more on point to me. And I just couldn't see Pierre coming back from there, bro. No, if you think about it, he walked into a right jab, and then buckled him. Yeah. He took a knee with that old JoJo. He took a knee. Yeah. And then Garn was on him. as you go up, that power. Hey, it's the difference between a middleweight power, a light heavyweight power, and a true heavyweight power. Yeah, it's a different ballgame. Yeah. He saw that. I mean, you think about it. He fought Izzy at 185.
29:09Shannon Sharpe:Then he goes up to 205. That's light heavy. Think about it. He's fighting at a middleweight. He's 185. He weighed 251. damn for this fight 251 oh 70 pounds and you know what putting on that much weight you know it's slowing down too huh yeah yeah it'll slow you down and and i'm hoping if you gain that kind of weight you know i don't i don't know the ins and outs of it like that but does that does the power that you have at 185 does it carry over when you when you when you gain 70 pounds or that it It makes you slower. I'm trying to think. If he fought at 185 and now he's at 251, guys, he'd probably walk around 250 and 220.
29:57Shannon Sharpe:Easy. That's a big dude, bro. Easy. Do you see? Bro, he was as tall as gone. Yeah. You look at his frame, look at his frame, and look at Izzy's frame at 185. So you could tell he could put muscle on. I mean, that body can carry some weight. And you're looking like, but he looks sluggish. It looks sluggish, Ocho and Joe. To me, to my eye, it looked like, okay, yeah, he got dynamite. But the mere fact that God's like, I'm not just going to sit here and stand in front of you and make you throw. Catch him if you can. and you don't realize as that size to follow somebody around bro that takes something out of y 'all so and he was walking around but he was walking into punches this was a I didn't think I mean there's a reason why we haven't had a three division UFC champ I mean I would think it would probably be easier at a little lighter weight I mean to go from 85 to 05 to max weight at 65 you'd probably be able to go probably what 45 55 75 I think what's a well to wait 75 70 75
31:26Shannon Sharpe:okay I think that would probably be easy guys for me that's what I would think
31:35Shannon Sharpe:guys just hit too hard man as you start going up in weight man. Them guys hit hard. Hey, especially if you're a sitting target. Yes. And he doesn't wrestle. See, that's what makes John so lethal. John is just looking for an opening to get you down. He's a champion, champion, champion wrestler. Man, you get out there and go to playing you want to. Hey, hey, hey. You'll take the long one and won't wake up while you're out there playing. And then he got Man, he got so many tools in that toolbox. He got that spinning elbow. He got that spinning kick that he got Stipe Miocic with. He went toe-to-toe with Gustafson.
32:17Shannon Sharpe:I mean, he...
32:24Shannon Sharpe:But this fight, Aspinall and Agon, I think that's going to happen. I think, you know, they fought earlier, and then he got... Aspinall got an accidental poke in the eye. and it looked like Gon was dominating that fight.
32:39Shannon Sharpe:But it's going to happen. I think that's the fight. The interim, I'm sure Gon's like, look, I'm glad to have the belt, but I don't want no interim attached to it. I want to be the heavyweight champ. I think I've earned that right. Now the question is,
32:58Shannon Sharpe:what is Jones going to do? What is Bones going to do? I think he won a fight. I mean, he's not the problem. Too much money. I think the negotiating part is the problem. Y 'all know what it is, man. Y 'all know that man want a bag. Big bag. The reports are they offered him$15 million. For one fight? And he turned it down. Yes. He said, I guess he want$30 million. Because see what? You know what happens. They see what UFC sold for. Right. They see what the CEO is making. They see everybody's getting paid except the guys that's fighting. Now, they make good money, but I'm saying, when you start looking from a...
33:42Shannon Sharpe:Hey, it's just like anything. Hold on. How much a suite costs? How much they making TV revenue? And you're like, well, hold on. I ain't seen y 'all in no cleats yet. I ain't never seen no cleats. I ain't never seen nobody and with no jerseys, no job. And so now the fighters or players and so forth and so on, like, well, hold on. Where my cut? My for real, for real cut. And I'm not saying$10,$15 million is nothing to sneeze at, but I know you got 20, 25, 30 enough on you, boy. Hey, that's his value. He understands his true value. It is. What he's done for the fight game over the years, for one, being undefeated, knowing what he's going to do for that card and the eyes and the views and the gate that he can create if he does come back, he understands his true value.
34:34You pay him 25, you give him 30, you're going to get that back anyway. Especially depending on who the opponent is, he is the draw.
34:42Shannon Sharpe:Because people are going to watch him. People are going to watch him. Maybe, I think the thing is, maybe that would be the case if we could make it a pay-per-view fight. But now it's free. I mean, if you got Paramount Plus, it's free. Whereas before, Ocho, guys, you know, it's kind of like boxing. When all these fights you had to pay to get them, man, I really want to see, I want to see Jones Bones fight. I want to see this guy fight. Now it's, oh yeah, I got Paramount Plus. Yeah. And they get to run ads, but it's the pay-per-view where I charge you$100 or I charge you$150 I mean, what did the Pacquiao Floyd fight sell for?
35:27Shannon Sharpe:$100? Floyd Conor. What was that fight? $99,$109 something dollars? And then you get $200 million plus the advertising plus the gate. You think about in the history of boxing, that Floyd Pacquiao gate is one of the biggest of all time. And the Conor McGregor Pacquiao gate as well. I mean, the McGregor, Mayweather, Mayweathergate. You know, I'm talking about top five boxers of all time. So you understand if you get Jones from a business standpoint, as smart as Dana White is, you know, he's had success in business. I'm sure he understands that. It's all about them coming to a common ground and giving them something that's fair, but don't disrespect them.
36:14Don't disrespect them. Can we talk about the greatest fighter of all time?
36:18Shannon Sharpe:If, because you think if I pay, if Floyd made 220, Connor made 100 million so that's 320. How much did the fight make? They not going to give you half of what they make. So what did that fight actually bring in? You'll never know. Oh no, they not going to disclose that. Not the real numbers. Yeah, if you think about it, the cap what's the cap now? Almost 300 million? Well, every team before the season kicks off, they get$400 million from the networks. Now, I ain't sold a new ticket yet. I ain't sold no merchandise yet. I ain't sold no parking yet. I ain't did no local TV yet. I ain't sold concession yet.
37:09Shannon Sharpe:So I've got$400 million. I only got$100 million to spend out on the team, plus another, let's just say for the sake of argument, I'm going to say all my coaches and staff, that's another$30 million,$40 million. I still got$50 million, and I ain't had nobody in my stadium yet. And ain't nobody bought no jersey yet. And local TV and radio yet. And you know what, Ocho? I heard you know what? I heard you got a little something. You got a big old truck, big old tractor, truck, truck pool competition. You don't want to come to the stadium. And you, Joe, you like college football. Arkansas, y 'all want to play in the Georgia Dome, huh?
37:48You do?
37:48Shannon Sharpe:Okay, come on now.
37:53Shannon Sharpe:So when it's all said and done, look, even the worst owners probably pocketing 150 million. Oh, yeah. Easy. Easy. Easy. So, man, this was, hey, Cyril Ghan, he impressed me tonight. Because sometimes I don't love, I think he fights lazy at times. He came to fight tonight. He came to fight tonight. He looked ready. Yeah, he came ready to fight. The men's battle weight, Sugar Shane O'Malley, defeated Zabi by TKO. Sean O'Malley ties TJ Dillashaw for the most knockout victories in UFC battle weight history with seven. O'Malley held the UFC battle weight championship from August 23 to September 24. He defended it once against Marlon Vera before losing back-to-back fights with Mera.
38:45Shannon Sharpe:Mera, excuse me. The belt is currently held by Peter Yan, and who is expected to face Debbie Shally. O'Malley, who entered the card ranked number three in the division, called for Yan to be his next opponent. I saw him lose the fight. He didn't look good. I think he had an injury. Didn't he have an injury? I think he had a shoulder injury or something. They said, because he didn't look like himself when I saw him. If I'm not mistaken, I saw him. He was at the sphere. That's where I saw him the last time. I think that's the last time that I saw him fight. But he said he had an injury. I don't know if that's true or not, but that's where I saw him.
39:20Shannon Sharpe:But he looked good tonight. He looked really good tonight. And again, that jab. Walked him into it and boom. Yeah, that left put him down. That left stunned him. That right put him down. You know, he used their reach all night, bro. I mean, one of the best and most probably accurate strikers, you know, in MMA. It was fun watching him fight tonight, bro. He put on a master class. Yeah, and I think the thing is, and that's what people really love about the UFC. Get that look. All that sizing up and trying to feel like, nah. They ain't got time for that. Dana's like, I put you on the card to fight.
40:00That's it. You got to do it. You can't hide. Hey, listen, you can't hide. You can't run. You better come in there with a game plan. If game plan A ain't work, you better have a game plan B.
40:09Shannon Sharpe:It's serious, bro. I mean, do you understand the conditioning that you have to be in to be a UFC fighter? Hey, hey. I mean, to be really good, you don't have to be great at anything, but you got to be good at a lot of things. Hey, hey, and what we talk about, building up them calluses in sports to where you can play. Boy, you know how many kicks you got to take to your damn leg so you can build it up, you know what I mean? I'm like, you think them little kicks don't matter, bro, but over a period of time or over a period of time - A period of time, oh, it hurt? It hurt. Yeah, Joe. That's just how - You kick somebody in the leg, man.
40:49Shannon Sharpe:We've all had five bruises. Man, imagine somebody, man, look here. Man, hold on. Let me run to my car right quick. I got something for you. Hey, hey, Joe, Joe, hey, Uncle Joe over there laughing. What do you think I'm gonna do to him when I see him? He gonna get that close. You gonna get that close. You can get that close. Hey, listen, I'm not Tepore. I'm coming. I'm dunking in the sludge and picking angles. I ain't worried about no jab. You coming in like Tyson? Ocho, you coming in like Tyson? Hey, Joe, I'm picking angles, man. I'm not thinking about him. You see how Tepore looks? Disconfigured.
41:22Shannon Sharpe:His face is disconnected. Boy, I'm going to jab your little ass in there. Ping, ping, ping, ping. Nah, boy, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, Joe tall, too? Ocho. You going to chop him down, Ocho? Ocho, you ain't going to be able to. Listen, I'm a heavyweight ultra, I'm 250. Man, when I hit you, when I hit you flush, when I hit you flush with one of these, boy, you going to the canvas. Joe, you ain't got no skills to be able to hit me. That's the problem. Man don't know what type of trainer I don't know. Don't know how. He don't know how, Joe. He don't know what I'm doing. Yeah, yeah. Well, hey, this is the thing.
41:55I don't know how you stay in shape, but you know I'm in shape. That's all that matters.
41:58Shannon Sharpe:How you been doing is running, playing soccer. You ain't doing nothing. Yeah. All right. Yeah. It's the same way I kicked that ball. I'm going to kick your ass. Okay. Okay. I can't wait to see this, partner. Who are we? Yeah. The lad. I mean, Ocho, you going up in size now. I mean, you going from a 190 to a 250. All that shit he been talking don't even matter no more. We ain't even talking about size. Hey, the funny thing about it is I'm gonna hit him full time before he didn't realize he got hit. Damn. Too big, 250, what'd that tell you? Slow feet. I'm gonna work the jab to death. Slow feet. Hey, no.
42:39That's all you gonna do with jabbing. He already came out there right one, that left one. He damn sure he gonna be in a second. I'm gonna be aiming right at it. Beep, beep, beep. I'm gonna be good. Hey, you know what an airplane, right? An airplane only need one engine to work in the air. Not against this. I only need one eye to get done what I need to get done. One plea.
42:56Shannon Sharpe:One plea. I'm trying to tell you. No, Ocho, that's just the land. You can't take off with one engine, though. It can operate just well in the air with one. That's all that matters. We going to see. Hey, if you tell me you got one engine, don't worry about it. Get me off here. Let me off. I'll see y 'all when y 'all get back. But no, those fight, I mean, the Gaethje, Tapura fight, the Ghan, Piedra fight, the O'Malley. and the bikes were great. Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, how about the rest of them? Because I was in flight. I was leaving the room to come home and I missed other ones. Oh, go ahead, hon.

46:17It feels like it's trying to divide people. If we got clear facts, maybe we can calm down a little. NBC News brings you clear reporting. Let's meet at the facts. Let's move forward from there. NBC News, reporting for America.
46:38Shannon Sharpe:Oh yeah, yeah, Josh Hokey defeated Derrick Lewis by TKO on the night that began an electrified knockout. Hokey added a fourth TKO, but did so against an immobile statue and this shit. Lewis looked bad. He did. He looked bad. Hey, Hokey the character in that ring, boy, but he ain't. Hey, what you mean he looked bad, Joe? Man, Hokey, hey, Ocho, he's like he was on another level tonight. Hold on, he looked like he was on another level with that last fight he had. Man, that was exciting. When Hogan fought, remember when Hogan fought last time? Yes, yes, yes. He looked like that, but Derrick Lewis, I mean, at 41.
47:14Shannon Sharpe:And look, he's a puncher. If he can't land anything, he's going to run out of gas. Yeah. Damn. Josh Hogan won the biggest fight of his career at the White House and decided to finish with an interview called Michelle Obama a man. Yeah, that's what I said, man. I mean, bro, look, and I'm glad. Look, I didn't see it because I didn't have any sound on. But I was, you know, strolling through Twitter, and then I saw that. I was like, damn, he said that on thing? And then I got it. It didn't get the response that he hoped that it was going to get. I mean, so now you take that platform. So I just want to make sure.
47:54Shannon Sharpe:I want to make sure there's a certain network that says athletes shouldn't, you know, don't bring sports into politics into sports. Yeah. I'm just saying You can't say that When you're having a fight A sport, a sporting event At a White House Which that intertwines politics and sports It's always been sports and politics Yes sir I don't know if they know anything about Desegregation when there was no blacks In sports But I thought sports bring People together It didn't bring them together, it was forced to until you saw how well the blacks could do something like, hold on. You want me to tell me y 'all can run that fast?
48:38Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all can catch? Y 'all can shoot? Y 'all can hit them all? And y 'all can do it better than we can? Or let me go get you? No. Huh? Because the SEC, guess what? Until old Sam Bam Cunningham came down there and ran over Alabama and said, take one to catch one. Let me go get you a couple of days. So this notion, this notion all of a sudden, oh, we gonna keep politics out of sports. Politics has never been out of sports. I don't know when y 'all remember when Jesse Owens went to Berlin in 1936. I don't know if y 'all remember that. Or when Joe Louis knocked out Max Schmeling. I don't know if y 'all remember that.
49:19Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. But y 'all, you know, I see y 'all get me up on my soapbox every time, Joe, damn. Yeah, it get you worked up, man. preach let them know huh but they do this they know it it's just the fact I don't like what you talking about so this is what I want you I wanted you to keep it out of it Joe Ocho y 'all remember how they did Jack Johnson stop that man going through he said here's a hundred dollars cause I'm coming back through just as fast as I went through so here's a hundred yeah I like Josh Hokett I understand what he's trying to do he's trying to take the conor mcgregor route he's just going about it a little a little a little a little wrong in in a sense there's a way to bring the entertainment value before the fight there's a way to to to create that that that aura and um that that character that you're trying to present but then also be able to back it up in the octagon but he just he's picking the wrong way well you know now you know yeah yeah he created and controversy.
50:23Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all know now, man, guys figure, or people figure any publicity is good publicity. You know what I mean? So they'll say whatever, they'll do whatever to get a sound bite. Hell, hey, y 'all see what's going on in New York too. You know what I mean? Hey, whatever it takes. I think the thing is, is that she happened to be low hanging fruit. They know that woman, she's not that, but it's good. Just like they know that man was born in America. and the man that pushed that. Now, they hate lies and they hate conspiracy theories, but they pushed one for over a decade. But that was cool. That was cool.
51:06Shannon Sharpe:President Obama, you know what he should have done? President Obama, when he got into office, he should have filed a defamation for$100 billion and then have his Justice Department to pay it off. Y 'all know what I'm talking about Yeah The problem with Shell Obama That's what I'd have done too Oh y 'all say I wasn't born here Y 'all say my birth certificate bogus Okay here we go right here Boom Y 'all say my man Okay here it is right here Boom Now this is going to cost you A hundred billion Alright Justice Department Play it off Oh you know what We don't think like that Because each department Is supposed to be separate Legislative independent Judicial independent executive independent Department of Justice is not supposed to work for an individual but y 'all know what I'm talking about but it ruined a good look he won the fight he beat Derrick Lewis I thought the extra stuff at the end was unnecessary Conor McGregor talks about the fighter that he's fighting he don't go outside and try to take on some low hanging fruit because ain't nothing that he said was entertaining about what he said the one thing I can't say about Conor McGregor he is entertaining do I think some of the things that he said to Floyd went over the line absolutely Absolutely.
52:17But he goes at the fighter.
52:18Shannon Sharpe:Muhammad Ali started that. Yes. If you want to talk about an individual, fine, the guy that I'm fighting. But when you go outside and you try to take a jab at something, bro, come on, bro. You're not that funny. You're not that entertaining. And nobody thought you were funny. It's easy. And all you did was perpetuate a racial stereotype that you've been saying for years. They said the same thing about Venus and Serena. Every time a black woman becomes something, you, others, some people from that side, try to take a shot at them. It's been going on, I mean, when is it gonna be enough? Mm-hmm. No one.
53:02Shannon Sharpe:You don't see, we get in position, we don't do anything like that, we don't take no shots at nobody like that. But they do it all the time, and it's cool. Mm.
53:15Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it was very unnecessary.
53:24Shannon Sharpe:Sometimes I wonder.
53:30Shannon Sharpe:Let's just say for the next 20 years, the roles are reversed.
53:38Shannon Sharpe:Like the roles were for 400 years, we just want 40. That ain't gonna happen.
53:47Shannon Sharpe:Just hypothetical, just one day like, oh, what? You mean to tell me? Hmm. We get to do stuff and oh well, we get 12 people on the jury that look just like us, our same skin complexion, oh yeah, not guilty. I mean, there are people in there filing their nails, doing everything they want to do, and you pay attention. You already know what's going to happen.
54:22Boy.
54:24Shannon Sharpe:Like I said, it ruined a great night. I thought Dana put a great card on. I thought the guys came to fight. I was very excited to see the fight from start to finish. I was disappointed it got delayed. I was like, damn, this is really going to push us back late tonight. But, hey, understanding that when you have an event and it's outside, you don't get to control the elements. You can control a lot of things. You can control the cow capacity. You can control a lot. You don't control that up there. The man upstairs can control that.
54:56Shannon Sharpe:Mauricio Ruffey defeated Michael Chandler by TKO. Ruffey blew out Chandler in the first round stoppage. The fight resembled that of glorified Spartan Session. Then he celebrated by proposing to his girlfriend. Chandler had hoped to end the three fight skid, but no match for Ruffey. and suffered a fourth consecutive loss. Damn. See, I couldn't see none of this. Ray, hey, hey, Ruffy was too much. Ruffy was too much. He was patient. I'll get Ojo. It was nothing but it could do with him, bro. And then, hey, hey, hey, once he started doing the spinning kicks, I said, oh, yeah, it's a whip. He hit that point.
55:28Shannon Sharpe:Well, he in that spinning kick? Yeah. Yeah. You know what, guys? It's like anything in sport. I hate to tell somebody because that's their body. They want to go in there and take them kicks. He ain't been close to winning. He ain't been close, guys. He ain't been close. Hey, I was sitting here thinking that. I'm like, man, you got to be alert to the old house, bro, to get up in there and not knowing if you're going to win. You know what I mean? Or not taking it serious. Bro, you can really die in that cage, man. Oh, absolutely. You can get hurt now. Oh. Oh, yeah, for sure. For sure. You better come up with your mind right.
56:12Shannon Sharpe:You do. And it's... You know, the famous quote is, getting in is easy. Getting out is the hard part. Hard part. Knowing when to get out. Knowing when to get in is easy. Oh, y 'all gonna do this. When do you say... And we've seen it far too many times. We've seen some of the great, great fighters stay longer than what they should. They can't help it. See, at least in sports or basketball, hey, they cut you. Yeah. When you're an independent contractor, guess what, Joe? Hey, you just go do your own. Hey, I keep coming. As long as they're going to put me on the card, I show up. Oh, yeah. And I hate that.
56:57I hate that, you know, you fight so long.
57:03Shannon Sharpe:And it's not like they made a whole lot of money. Now, I'm sure the money is getting better. but they didn't make a whole lot of money probably in the beginning they probably make it what$50 ,000$100 ,000 Ocho yeah you got to work your way up and when you work your way up as far as creating that that purse for the growth for one you got to win but if you can add any kind of entertainment and become a character it takes you to another level you create a fan base and once you become a draw but the rest is history. It's all about entertainment. Yeah, the rest is history. That's why, hey, Sugar Ray, that's why he called himself Sugar.
57:47Shannon Sharpe:You're entertaining and you can fight? Fight. Muhammad Ali, the way he could talk, we ain't never seen nobody do this. And nobody's been able to repeat it. No. Hey, Muhammad was different, boy, with that mouth piece, boy. Oh my goodness. He was amazing. he was amazing he was really good his word play was phenomenal absolutely
58:15Shannon Sharpe:middleweight Bo Nickel defeated Kyle Dukakis I think that's how you say it Dukakis Bo Nickel was a champion wrestler out of Penn State I think that was his ninth win he did a number it wasn't even close and he did that. He didn't really do no wrestling. Right, and he known for his wrestling. Yeah, he didn't even look at his ears. Man, that's what I said. Damn. You got them collins, got them collins. Hey, that's the thing. You got, hey, somebody start talking crazy, you got to peek over that in the mirror. You got it, man. You right. You right. Hey, you right. You good. Hey, Joe, you never have your beard in that slobber.
58:58Yeah. Oh, Oh, dude. Hey, hey, you know I had cauliflower on both of my ears too, huh? What happened? What happened? I had surgery. You know I was a state wrestling champ two years in a row. 94, 93. No, I don't remember you telling me about this one. Yeah, Joe, at Miami Beach. Yeah.
59:17Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I got surgery to get the cauliflower out. That's why I don't understand why you talk the trash to me. I just said, I didn't know. I'm glad you telling me this. Now I can kind of rethink my game plan, since you got a little experience i mean what what kind of game plan you gonna have joe when i i can strike i can stand up and i can go okay what about can you take one flush to your nose and make your eyes stop water yeah you can do that boy if you can do that i ain't seen nobody who can take one flush to the nose eyes start watering i ain't seen that ojo joe but the problem is my my hey joe my head ain't gonna be on the line like that joe i'm i'm i'm i'm i'm nothing but a strike i'm accurate That's my kid, ain't greeted.
1:00:00You being accurate means nothing if my head is never on the line to be able to hit me. Man, I don't know. You might think I - No, Joe, you know what? Hey, hey, hey. Joe, you know what? I'm tired of going back and forth, man. I'm a fucker. You might think I can't hit no moving target or something. No, not really. Not really. Man, Ocho, I just look like this. Partner, I'm telling you, I put your little ass to sleep. I know how you look. I know how you look. I know how you look. I know what you're going to look like when I'm done with you. All right, all right. Okay. Man, y 'all crazy. Okay. I tell you, I'ma have him looking like him before.
1:00:35Okay. Hey, so who gonna be looking like Iliad before tonight?
1:00:39Shannon Sharpe:Man, come on. Joe? Don't ask no crazy questions now. Come on, keep it 100. Come on, be for real. Be for real. Hey, matter of fact, the same confidence Joe got right now, the same confidence you had all playoff series. You see how that happened, right? We ain't even on that tonight, Ocho. You see how that went, right? Hey, you had the Spurs winning, but you think you're going to beat me? Same concept. Hey, Ocho. Same concept, Ocho? Same concept. Hey, loud and loud. Ocho, I'm really trying to be cool with you, bro. You know what I'm saying? But you starting to bring the ugly out of me. I don't even like myself when I'm ugly like that.
1:01:18Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? Right. I really don't want to have to put my hands on it, but I got you. You don't like that side of Joe Johnson. I really don't. That's why I'm a quiet fella. I be chilling. Cause when I get to that point. Oh, I'm just saying them quiet ones, they dangerous. Cause when I get to that point, hell I can't turn my damn self off. That's all I'm saying. Oh man. That man said he ain't got no. Now, you know what? I like people like that. Cause if you ain't got the switch to turn you off, I'll turn you off for you. All I'm saying, if it's me, you and Unk, I'm gonna need some help to get me up off your little land.
1:01:53Shannon Sharpe:That's all I'm saying. I mean I'm too fit to myself Oh Jordan. He said I ain't gonna be able to get him up When you pissed off and everybody trying to hold you back you just yeah, yeah, yeah Boy, hey, hey, oh Joe. Hey all that aggression gonna get you probably you probably get knocked out like that too, Joe Probably getting knocked out. I could see it already. Oh, hey, he rushing in I mean everybody got to have a kill switch I mean, look here, you go through a business, something going crazy, you gotta be able to have a switch that can cut it off. I mean, you go through the merry-go-round, they got a kill switch.
1:02:28Shannon Sharpe:Joe say he ain't got no kill switch, Ocho. They call your wife or your mama or your, my mom and my grandma gone, so it's over with, ain't nobody can slow this train down. Oh, man. Once this thing get going, partner, whoever in the way getting rolled over. Yeah. I like that. I like that. Ocho, this man say you got to call, you got to call the president to get an act of Congress to get him up off you. I like that. The talk is in his session. Hey, I want to make sure he keep that same energy when I got him in the guillotine. You hear me? Okay, hey, hey, hey, I'm going to have my gloves in my bag.
1:03:01Shannon Sharpe:Matter of fact, I'm going to have a two pair. So when I do see you, just lace up. We ain't got to speak. Don't we ain't know what's happening? There ain't going to be none of that. That man said he don't even want to speak. Ocho, that man ain't got to say, he ain't saying, hey, how you doing? Hey, what's up? What's up? Hey, my hand's going to do all the talking. I ain't got to say nothing. When somebody say it's on site, hell, that's what you, it's on site. Yeah. It's on site. We ain't got nothing to talk about. I see you, you see me, wop, wop, wop, wop. Hey, hey, my hand, my hand, my hand do the talking, they gonna talk in cursive too.
1:03:35Damn. Yeah.
1:03:36Shannon Sharpe:So, hey, this thing might go down to Whole Foods, it might go down to Target, it might go down anywhere. In the airport, anywhere. Airport, oh Lord, help me. I like that. Hey, I know one thing, Hey, I'm gonna put on a mean demonstration. Huh? I'm gonna put on a mean demonstration. Man, don't do it at the airport, because we're gonna have to fly, because, you know, we're gonna be taking some trips this fall. So, hey, just stay out of the airport, because that's a federal offense. They put you on the no-fly list. Hey, listen. Me and Ochoa is gonna be on the no-fly list. I got something for his little ass.
1:04:10Hey, Joe gonna be flying under there with the luggage. That's where you gonna be at. You gonna be under there with the luggage.
1:04:17Shannon Sharpe:I'm just letting you know, partner. Yeah. Hey, chat, chat. I don't know what y 'all talking about. Joe, you too big to be whooping on. Nobody want to hear all that now. Yeah, you said the same thing about the Spurs. Hey, hush this shit up. What am I trying to hear all that? Yeah. Joe, you putting the belt on the line? Yeah, I put the belt on the line. Yeah, yeah. Damn, Ocho. I like that. Yeah, yeah. Hey, what kind of belt is that? Don't worry. You can't whoop me, so you ain't gonna get it. You ain't like you don't ever see it. Don't worry about it. Hey, just like I took your crown. You ain't took my crown.
1:05:51Hello. You ain't took - Just like I took your crown. You ain't took my crown. Hey, I'm gonna take that belt.
1:05:58Shannon Sharpe:Nah, nah. I'm just, man, I'm just letting him know, man. Hey. Hey, hey. Ocho, that belt would look nice. Ocho, can you imagine everybody saw that belt with Joe and then all of a sudden it's in the background that's behind you on the shelf that you ain't gonna get built? Don't worry about it. Man. No, and matter of fact, I'm gonna have a picture of Joe back there with my, with the vest on, with my service, my support dog. Huh? Yeah, all that. I had a belt, I had a crown, everything. Hey, boy, you, and you to talk yourself into some heap of trouble, boy. I like that. I just, damn. Joe, I don't know if you, I don't know if you noticed, if you did your homework on me, all I do is talk and walk you.
1:06:35And I back up everything I say, Joe. All right.
1:06:39Shannon Sharpe:We gonna see. Hey, boy. Joe's so confident, Joe put the belt on the line. Yeah. Yeah, man. He put the belt on the line. Hey, he put the belt on the line, his life on the line. He talking about the belt. Damn, damn, the belt. Damn, boy. Uh-oh. Joe say, look, Joe say the two people that can get him off you, they know what to hear. So unless he hear a call in the night before, it's over. Hey, hey, hey, hey. And if you want me to be real, I can hear my mama saying right now, kick his ass. Kick his ass. I can hear my mama. That's how my mama is. That's how she coming. Yeah, every game. She had a game.
1:07:14Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. All right. Hey, hey, hey, hey, her only child. Boy, she go through hell for me. You hear me? Hey, you know what? That's the big. You the only one. So ain't going to be nobody left when I'm done with you. Hey, hey, hey, hey. I was the chosen one, partner. Don't worry about it. I was the chosen one. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Are you right?
