In short
Nightcap Hour 1 is a Knicks vs. Cavaliers playoff recap and preview, focused on New York taking a commanding 3-0 series lead and what it means for the Cavs’ chances. The hosts argue the Knicks “broke” Cleveland’s spirit with relentless effort, defensive pressure, and efficient shooting, including a high point differential and large margins in recent games. They cite Cleveland’s lack of aggressiveness (not reaching the bonus late), 16 turnovers (15 from Mobley, Mitchell, Harden), poor three-point shooting (5-of-23), and Donovan Mitchell’s struggles (9-of-21 FG, 2-of-6 FT). They praise Knicks’ offensive flow: Jalen Brunson’s passing and scoring efficiency, OG Anunoby’s 21 points on 10 shots, Josh Hart’s all-around impact, and especially Landry Shamet’s hot three-point shooting (4-for-5, 14 points) plus defense. They also discuss roster-building concerns for Cleveland’s backcourt and the need for a small forward.
Guests
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and “ISO Joe” Johnson (former NFL and NBA players/hosts). They also reference Anthony Edwards’ comments about Victor Wembanyama’s ejection.

It'll be the first time going to the NBA Finals since 1999. Wow. The highest point differential in a postseason.
6:35Shannon Sharpe:The Knicks is 2026, are 234, plus 234. In perspective, the Warriors, with Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Clayton, Draymond was only plus 230. The 2014 Spurs was 214. That is insane company. The last 10 games, they've won by 13, 16, 11, 30, 6, 39, 51, 29, 16. Let that sink in. Only one game has been decided by less than double figures. What happened? Oh, they don't know that. The average margin of victory, Joe Ocho, 22 and a half points per game. So in the last 10 games, only one team has been able to be within double digits. 13, 16, 11, 30, 14, 6, 39, 51, 29, and 16. Joe, how can the Cavs get a game?
7:38Shannon Sharpe:Let alone, we're not even talking about the series. Because I think for all intents and purposes, the series are over. How can they get a game when they didn't get into the bonus, Joe, until the last minute of the game? And that was because Josh Hart, I don't know, for some reason, he wanted to challenge the three-point shot. He ended up stepping up under the screws who wasn't able to land, and so that was it. They were going to go an entire quarter, Joe, and not be in the bonus. I don't know if I've seen that. I'm sure you have been playing in the NBA for 17 years, But how does Cleveland summons it up and get a game?
8:19Chad Johnson:I'm not sure they can, Ocho. I'm going to keep it 100 with y 'all tonight. Be very transparent. Listen, I think from game one, it was so demoralizing, bro, to lose that game being up 22 with six minutes, seven minutes left on the clock. And then, you know, I kind of gave them the benefit of the doubt. I gave the Cavs the benefit of the doubt. I'm like, well, listen, maybe when they get home, you know, they'll play with a little more sense of urgency. They'll play a lot harder. They'll feed off their home crowd. And you got your role players, the others who we always talk about. You know, they'll come to play.
8:51Chad Johnson:They'll play a lot better. But, man, the lack of energy and effort that I've seen from the Cavs today, bro. To start the game. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying, like, you want to try to hit first, you know, especially when you're at home, bro, and see if you can break their wheel. But, man, they just have no resistance on nothing. Like, I agree with you. For you not to get into the penalty, that means you just have a lack of aggressiveness, bro. You're not aggressive. It's not do or die for you. You know what I mean? That's not what they play like to me. I mean, they just had no energy, no effort.
9:25Chad Johnson:And the Knicks seemed like they were the more desperate team, which I'm sure they are, because they've been in this situation before. And knowing that the Knicks are trying to get to the NBA Finals, which I think they will do, it's like they understood what was at stake. We got a team down 0-2. Let's see if we can put them away. And I think they just came in and they wanted it more than the Cavs in their own building, bro. It sure seemed that way.
9:49Shannon Sharpe:I was thinking a lot like you were thinking. I said, okay, the crowd has got – they were amped up. You know, Kels and his fiancée Taylor Swift was there. The crowd was hype. He was getting the crowd hype. But at the end of the day, I mean, you come out and now you're down 9-1. You're down 9-2. that's not the way you want to start you want to get the crowd in the game and try to keep them in the game and it really i mean the only time they could get in the game guys is when they would
10:12Chad Johnson:mount a comeback to cut the lead to six right yeah right there was never a situation where they had
10:17Shannon Sharpe:a lead where they're up they were always down and i'm like i'm looking i'm like i i don't get it i don't know why he keeps putting wade in the starting lineup 17 minutes no points one field goal. I mean, one field goal attempt. You might as well go ahead and put Struza, Maryland, in the starting lineup. At least they're a viable option. Right now, they're playing four on five.
10:40Chad Johnson:You need that threat.
10:42Shannon Sharpe:I don't get it. Man, I don't know what's going on with Donovan Mitchell. I don't. I mean, nine of 21. Yeah, he got 23 points. He had 23 points. What do you expect? Hell, it took him 21 shots to get it.
10:57Chad Johnson:Yeah.
10:59Shannon Sharpe:And Joe, help me understand. What's going on with his free throws?
11:03Chad Johnson:I don't know. Two for six is so uncared to risk him because as a two guard, he's such a great shooter. And, I mean, I don't know, man. I don't know. I don't know.
11:13Shannon Sharpe:But his free throws, his percentage has kind of been going down. Give me what he's shooting against the Knicks from the free throw line. Ocho. Yeah. I mean, you get OG 21. You got Cat got 13. Hart got 12. Mikael Bridges got 22. Mikael Bridges, since those first three games of the Hawks, since the games four through six, and the next series, and what he's done now, he's been playing unbelievable basketball. And this is the Brunson that we expect to see. Yeah. 10 of 19, 10 of 12, ultra, ultra aggressive, still getting his guys involved, plus 15. Everybody was, you know, plus 15. Josh Hart was plus three.
11:55Shannon Sharpe:Carl Anthony Towns plus 23, OG plus 11, and Landry Schamann is just coming in just unconscious. He's just unconscious.
12:03Chad Johnson:Man, look, y 'all got to give my Hawks some credit, man. At least we won two damn games. They swept. Hold on, hold on. They swept through Philly and then they're about to sweep through Cleveland. Man, come on, man. Get out of here with all that, bro. Hey, Joe, as much as you want that credit, we not going to give it to you. You a hater. You a hater? I'm not a hater. Listen, listen, I'm not hating. I'm just saying we're not going to give it to you. I'm not sure what's wrong with the Cavs, Joe and Unc, especially in a game like this. Oh, you're already down 2-0, right? If anything, you want to come out when it's a fight and sometimes the person you think can whoop you, you always want to throw that first punch.
12:43You always want to get that first punch off first.
12:46Chad Johnson:Like get off. Yeah, you got to get off first just in case you had to win. That's exactly what this game is. That's exactly what this series is. It was demoralizing once they were able to come back from down 22 with six minutes left to go. That took everything out to sales. That took everything out to sales. But think about it. From a competitive standpoint, Ocho, you got to at least compete, bro. Like, it's just too many empty possessions on the defensive end to where it's just like, oh, yeah, go ahead, y 'all. You get that layup. Yeah, yeah, wing tripping, wing tripping.
13:17Shannon Sharpe:Like, come on, bro. It's the playoff. Ain't nobody trying to close no door behind them. Ain't nobody closing the door, Joe. They leave the door wide open. Guys getting layup. OG to the side. Mikael Bridges to the side. Brunson to the side. I'm like, bro, ain't nobody going to close a damn door?
13:32Chad Johnson:Come on, man. Come on, man. Come on, man. That's what I'm saying.
13:37Shannon Sharpe:They are operating. Give the Knicks credit. They are playing. They're making shots. A lot of those shots, I mean, I'm looking at OG. But you can't go out there. If OG had the three-point line, you can't go out there with your hand down. Yeah. I mean, they got – guys can make shots now.
13:54Chad Johnson:Yeah.
13:54Shannon Sharpe:The likelihood of you putting somebody on the court. There are a few teams that have players that you're not even worried about them making a shot from the three. But the Knicks, all five of their guys are live from the three-point line. You can't walk out there with your damn hand down.
14:07Chad Johnson:Man, listen. I like what Mike Brown has done with the Knicks because he has made it to where a cat is a part of the offense. He may not take the most damn shots. but he's going to get a lot of touches. And as a big man, as long as they get some touches here and there, bro, you keep them happy, they'll play hard as I don't know what for you. You know what I mean? And I think by him playing through Cat, it turns Brunson into something like an Iverson type. You know what I mean? To where he can come off these down picks, then come off the dribble handoffs and things. It makes them so much dangerous.
14:44Chad Johnson:And when you got Bridges and OG and Josh Hart, Josh Hart won your game the last game. Okay, Ocho scoring 26 points. Yeah, I didn't expect for him to do that again. But if you look at his stat line, bro, 12 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals. Bro, that's somebody who's playing hard. You know what I mean? Like, he's always going to be able to affect the game, put his stamp on the game. So he's always going to be a plus for them. I just feel like the Knicks have found something, obviously, that's going to probably more than likely get them to the finals. and by playing through cap, bro, it just makes him so much more of a dangerous team because he spreads the floor.
15:24Chad Johnson:Yeah, he ain't doing a whole lot of doggish dirty work down there, but he's playing the right way. A high assist game, seven assists. He's been probably leading them in assists in this postseason, if I ain't mistaken. And that makes him just much of a dangerous team. But to Cleveland, come on, man. To be at home, and when you get people to come in your building, bro, Travis Kelsey and his wife, Taylor Swift, I don't know about y 'all but when I was playing here in Atlanta or any other place in New York like when we get celebs come to the game it just kind of give you an extra little oomph you know what I mean you want to put on a great performance and even if you don't make shots hell the least thing you can do is compete at the highest
16:06Shannon Sharpe:level bro play hard that's it play hard no joke nah what I was saying they didn't even look like they're not being up to watch as great as I mean this is just my mindset and I think about some of the narratives that have surrounded Donovan Mitchell some of the narratives that have surrounded James Harden in the postseason to come out to a game like this already down 2-0 there's no way in hell Joe I'm not all over
16:34Chad Johnson:the place man I'm not all over the place it just look as if they didn't want to be out there I mean they playing basketball Joe but it don't look like they playing basketball. And I mean that in the most respectful way possible. No resistance. The energy is different. Yeah. When you're watching both of these teams, hey, you playing home. Hey, you got home point advantage. There's no reason it should look the way it looked tonight. No.
17:03Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing is that they're expecting somebody to come here and lay down and see what happened is in that game seven, you saw what happened with Detroit.
17:11Chad Johnson:Right.
Read the full transcript
17:12Shannon Sharpe:The first five minutes, the game was over. Yeah. That ain't what the Knicks are. The Knicks are going to battle you. One thing about them, they're going to battle you because they got battlers on the court. You look at OG, look at his background. You look at Josh Hart, a guy seemingly like that. Nobody, he's like, man, don't nobody want me. He's found a home to let him do a little bit of everything. He doesn't have to be great at anything, but he is really, really good at a lot of things. He's going to dive on the floor. He's going to rebound. He can, hey, you put it, hey, they try to run zone.
17:43Shannon Sharpe:You put a flash into the top and he'll find the open guy. He can score the points. You say, you know what? Everybody else could possibly hurt us. You can. And in game three, guess what? In game two, guess what he did? He goes 26 points and has a career high. So he does a lot of little things really, really well. And you don't have to ask him to do that because that's in his DNA. He's going to play hard.
18:05Chad Johnson:Yeah.
18:06Shannon Sharpe:OG is what OG is. You know he's going to defend. He can rebound. He can make eight. and now he's getting ultra, ultra aggressive. He only took 10 shots. The man took 10 shots and got 21 points.
18:19Chad Johnson:He been efficient like a mug. Yes. For the past couple of seasons. You know, he didn't play a whole lot in that Philly series, but hell, against my Hawks, hell, he barely missed. He barely missed. OG has been great. I like what they're doing with Landry Shaman. You know, when him coming off the bench, he's been giving them great minutes. He's a great complimentary piece to Brunson and Towns and Bridges and OG them. I just think they kind of got it figured out, fellas. You know, to be honest, I know we talk a lot about my house because we had that bad game six. But ever since then, man, them boys ain't been playing no games, man.
18:56Chad Johnson:Outside of game one from Cleveland, they hadn't been close. Nope.
19:02Shannon Sharpe:Games hadn't been close. They broke their will, Joe. They did, bro. They broke their will. They did. And if you think about it, Landry Shammott has played so well in game one, normally Jordan Clarkson would get major. Alvarado, they're like, nah, nah. Ever since Jordan Clarkson came in there, excuse me, Shammott came in in that game four and knocked down those threes and kind of kept it going in that overtime, he's been coming in and he can't miss.
19:27Chad Johnson:Yeah.
19:28Shannon Sharpe:You would get him, he was what, four or five from the three-point line tonight. 14 points.
19:34Chad Johnson:that a but there will come a time the knicks will need jordan clarkson i just think in this series shaman is such a great catch and shoot guy i ain't saying jordan clarkson can't catch and shoot but he got he more he more a little ball yeah yeah yeah yeah and right now we ain't got time for that we got a good thing going we need you to catch a shoot you know we need you to catch a shoot and shaman is playing great off these guys bro he plays great within himself don't do too much, the man went four for five and four for five from three. That's hot.
20:06Shannon Sharpe:Hell yeah. If you think about it the other night, well, he was three for three. I think the biggest thing is, though, Joe, look at the defense that he's playing. Landry Sherman is really not known as a defender, but he's played outstanding defense. And when you got a guy that's knocking down, well, he's known to shoot the ball. Okay, that's a given. But, oh, now he's going to defend? And it's amazing when guys get a little run, they see a couple of shots go in, now all of a sudden they do that old duke, they hit the floor like, let's go! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And you see Landry Shepin picking up James Harden.
20:40Shannon Sharpe:You see him picking up, I'm like, damn! That's you, Carl?
20:44Chad Johnson:Hey.
20:46Shannon Sharpe:Now, to the Cavaliers. Joe. Donovan. James. I mean... What you gonna... I mean, I'm just trying to figure out how y 'all expect. I mean, they had 16 turnovers. 24:46Chad Johnson:Yeah.
24:47Shannon Sharpe:From three guys.
24:48Chad Johnson:Yeah.
24:49Shannon Sharpe:Mobley had five. Mitchell had five. Harden had five. So you had 16 turnovers. 15 of them came from three guys. I'm looking at Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell got a guy wide open in the corner. Why the hell did he try to I thread the ball right there in the middle of the court. He get tilt, guess what? Lead to a fast break. And then he look to the bench. Don't look over here. If I was the coach, I'd have flipped him off.
25:16Chad Johnson:Hey, hey.
25:17Shannon Sharpe:Yo, I'm like, bro, you got a guy wide open on the, as a matter of fact, it was Mobley. I said, you got Mobley wide open at the three, and you try that, Pat. Hey.
25:31Chad Johnson:I know.
25:32Shannon Sharpe:I don't know where they go, Chad. I don't know where they go from here because they broke – the Knicks broke their spirit. I still believe that he should have called a timeout. He should have called two timeouts to try to break their rhythm, to try to give your guys a chance to regroup. Come tell them something. Guys, we're two minutes from home. Get us home two minutes. Hey, two minutes. And we snatch home court from these guys. We can do it. We were down to Detroit, and we came back and won that series. Man, tonight was horrible, huh? Especially from behind the three. I mean, it was bad. I mean, listen, you look at New York, bro.
26:20Chad Johnson:They shot 55, 56 % from the field. I mean, man, we talk about this all the time. Okay, Ochoa, you can't win no damn game, man. ain't letting no team shoot no 56 % from the field, bro.
26:33Shannon Sharpe:Hell no.
26:34Chad Johnson:I'm telling you, listen, you look at the San Antonio and Thunder series, you see how physical it is, and his body's hitting the ground almost every damn play, and that's how you got to play, bro. Like, you got to let them know you're there. You know what I mean? I just feel like for Cleveland, being at home, like, damn, the series could be tied 1-1, you know, coming into game three. Like, for me, I just felt that the Cavs would come out with just a little more sense of urgency, guys. You know what I mean? I mean, you have to. I mean, right now, hell, why would you – if I'm the Cavs, what you going to do game four?
27:11Chad Johnson:No, you ain't trying to go back to New York for no damn five, for game five.
27:15Shannon Sharpe:Man, please. Hey, Josh Hart and what you call him, say, man, we get us a couple of episodes of our podcast tape. We go age. Oh, Joey Joe. We get a couple of episodes. You know, we ain't gonna be able to take nothing. We get to the NBA finals. So we go and knock this thing out Monday. Yeah. Knowing that the Spurs and OKC, they got to go and leave. They got to go back. Yeah, got to go back to OKC. So we could go ahead and knock out two of the episodes that'll hold us over.
27:46Chad Johnson:Hey, they not only can they not got some episodes, but boy, they better have some security down there in New York if them boys win Monday just to be in the finals. Like the whole – Oh, my goodness. You got to think. You got to think. The Timber – I mean, not the Timber. The Thunder and the Spurs, they probably going to go – they probably going to go – it might go six, seven games. But they're going seven, though. So my thing is, damn, bro, in the West, they so beat up. I just seen the day that A.J. Mitchell going to be out. So it's like the Knicks, they going to be well-rested, You know, coming into the finals, bro.
28:22Chad Johnson:You know, I just think this is a great opportunity for the Knicks fans and Knicks culture, but they still got a lot of work to do.
28:33Shannon Sharpe:I mean, Mobley one for six from three. Harden one for seven from three. Mitchell three for ten from three. I mean, my three best players.
28:44Chad Johnson:Them damn turnover kids.
28:45Shannon Sharpe:They shot five of 23 from the three-point line.
28:53Shannon Sharpe:Donald Mitchell is shooting 69 % from the free-throw line in this series.
29:00Chad Johnson:I don't know what that about.
29:02Shannon Sharpe:I don't either. I have no idea. And considering that he played so well in the – and he's a – look, that's not to take away from him. That's not to take away. But at some point in time, bro, you're leaving a lot to be desired in your postseason play based on the regular season resume that you built for yourself. I'm telling you, nobody care about that, bro. You're going to have to deliver in the postseason because all the greats have had to do it. And if you want to be considered one of those great players, you're going to have to have moments in the post season. And right now, far too many times.
29:46Shannon Sharpe:Now, congratulations. This is your first time getting to a conference finals. Hey, kudos for that. But, bro, I mean, if you're going to – and I guess that's what Joe and Ocho, you hear people say, man, if I'm going to lose, I'd rather not even go.
29:58Chad Johnson:Yeah.
29:59Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You hear that a lot, you know, about the Super Bowl, about the NBA finals, about the World Series. Man, if I'm going to lose, I'd rather not even go. Well, if you're going to give us these kind of horse performances, why would you go ahead and shut it home?
30:13Chad Johnson:Yeah. You know, when I look at it, I try to sympathize. What's up? I try to sympathize for Cleveland because they played two game sevens. And if y 'all want me to be honest, they do. They look tired, bro. They look exhausted out there. Like, when you can't put forth the effort, you know, I know it's been a long series. Guys not moving the same. You know what it is? It's like James and Donovan, they don't really look like they having fun. And it's hard to play the game. As much as we are professionals and we also know that this is our job, bro, you can't take the fun out of the game. I don't give a damn what sport you playing.
30:55Chad Johnson:You still got to come out in.
30:56Shannon Sharpe:The Knicks beat that out of them. They didn't take it out. The Knicks beat the fun out of them.
31:02Chad Johnson:Well, I'm just saying, it's very noticeable when you watch it. You know what I mean? They all keep these stale facial expressions. And typically, you know, when you got it going or when you're feeling good, bro, you just got a little extra bounce in your step. And I just didn't see that tonight from the Cavs being that they was at home for game three, bro. It's like, I feel like they think this is over with. They threw the towel in, Uncle Joe. They threw the towel in. I mean, you can tell by their play. how inefficient everybody is, some of the things that they do, Donovan Mitchell being 69 % from the free throw line, everything is uncharacteristic of what they actually do.
31:41The narrative that have always been surrounding James Harden and goddamn Donovan Mitchell, you would have hoped this offseason, this playoff series, not just this series, but in general in the playoffs. And you think about them making it to the conference finals. For them, is this a wasted season?
31:58Chad Johnson:No, I wouldn't say it's a wasted season.
32:01Shannon Sharpe:But, Joe, the problem that you're running into, what they're going to run into, is that at what expense do I keep this backcourt together? Okay, I re-signed Donovan, big buck, max dollars. I re-signed, let's just say for the sake of argument, and, you know, we're having a healthy discussion here. I re-signed James Harden three years,$30 million. Bevy Mobley's making$35 to$40 million. For what? they're not better than I mean they got past Detroit but are they better than the Knicks no Boston's gonna come back next year Boston's coming back Orlando will be better next year than they were this year so now what what are we doing here
32:49Chad Johnson:they gotta address that small forward position
32:55Shannon Sharpe:I thought we got it covered
32:57Chad Johnson:No, how? With Wade?
33:01Shannon Sharpe:No, but I'm saying, hold on. Addressing how? So you want me to have a$30 million point guard, a$55,$60 million two guard, a$40 million power forward, a$25 million center, and how much you think I should be able to invest in a small forward?
33:20Chad Johnson:I don't know. $500? dollars you might you might you might you might have to go into the luxury tax if you want to win you say you want to win don't you they go to look boy i wish i might go to luxury tax for that well listen you gotta get you a small forward or somebody who who can compliment these guys bro somebody who can make shots somebody who can you know you bro the east from the first three four teams in the Eastern Conference. I mean, I ain't even talking about the Cavs. But I assume Detroit is going to get better. Like you say, Boston will be better. We're saying the Magic will be better.
34:01Chad Johnson:Hell, we've been saying that for the past couple years. But they still got a chance, man. They probably a piece or two away from continuing. I don't know if you bring I don't know what you're going to do. But you got to pay Donovan. You got to pay him max dollars. You can't let him go.
34:20Shannon Sharpe:But when you think about it, when you really break it down, who's been able to compliment Donovan? Who's been able to compliment Harden?
34:33Shannon Sharpe:When we really look at it, I mean, get past it. Who's been able to compliment those guys?
34:42Shannon Sharpe:He needs the ball. Mitch needs the ball. It's almost like, okay, okay, my turn. Okay, Joe, your turn. Okay, Ocho, your turn. That's how Mobley, Mitch, and Harden, that's seemingly how they play when you watch them. It don't seem in the flow. Okay, I got the ball. And Donovan get the ball. Over, lay up, step back three. Every Mobley get the ball. He's going to put it on the floor. Spin over one of the shoulders. That ain't no offense.
35:15Chad Johnson:It ain't, bro.
35:16Shannon Sharpe:That's your turn, my turn, my turn.
35:20Chad Johnson:Yeah, they got to figure it out, though, Uncle Ocho. I mean, hey, you make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Yeah. I mean, there's some good that can come out of this. But just being lethargic, no energy, I mean, damn, man. I don't know how you compete with that.
35:37Shannon Sharpe:I don't know how either. I don't. And it was a pathetic performance today. it would be interesting to hear what these guys are saying in the locker room about today's performance yeah we just didn't have the energy blah blah but I ain't trying to hear all that
35:54Chad Johnson:man guess what
35:56Shannon Sharpe:y 'all had the same y 'all had the same 36 hour rest period that the Knicks had and they had to travel yeah so we're not finna listen to y 'all talk about oh no no no no no everybody everybody playing every other day now every team spurs thunder knicks calves everybody's playing every other day yeah everybody has a responsibility to do whatever you need to do to get your body ready to perform at a very high level when you take your ass on that court and right now my guys the guys that i'm counting on ain't giving me ain't giving me a day's work Maybe that might be exactly what you do hear from them.
36:41Obviously, you want everybody to have some type of truth serum, an opportunity to tell the truth and have accountability, Joe, for the way they played. Not just tonight. Hell, the first game, okay, you was fighting. They came back, okay, game two. They ain't fighting. No fighting. Somebody, if you're going to throw the punch, you got to at least land one. Yeah. Land one. And tonight, this is the biggest fight for y 'all all season long. And you want to even take the first punch?
37:16Chad Johnson:Hold on. Hold on. So you mean, tell me, after game one, where you squandered away this big-ass lead, 22 points, and you don't take no accountability, you think they're going to take some accountability after game three? Hell no. No. That ain't happening, bro. I don't even see that. I'm just keeping 100. Like, I felt they should have took accountability after game one. They didn't do it. they're going to come out and say, man, the Knicks were better than us tonight. Period, point blank. They ain't going to say, oh, man, we should have came out with more energy or we should have done this. They're not going to do that, bro.
37:48Chad Johnson:You're right. They're not going to do that.
37:53Shannon Sharpe:Two things can be true. You look, they squandered it, but the Knicks had to be in position because we've seen situations where the game was right there for the taking, Ocho and Joe. We say the game was right there for the taking. They just didn't take it.
38:05Chad Johnson:okay the game was there for the taking and the Knicks took it yeah but bro you cannot in a
38:12Shannon Sharpe:playoff game when you got James Harden is a top 75 player uh Donovan Mitchell is an all NBA both of those guys are all NBA Evan Mobile is a defensive player of the year you cannot be up 22
38:25Chad Johnson:and lose that game yeah yeah you can't look if if if one both two of those two of those three guys
38:34Shannon Sharpe:go down, I can say, look, guys, they had to come in, they had to play with their backup. But with those guys on the court, it seems like sometimes you call a timeout just sometimes players want a coach to call a timeout just to reassure them that it's okay. You know, like a child, sometimes the child just want to hear the parents say, you okay? You okay? Get up. and to let that go and just to let it go to my play through it see phil jackson started that
39:08Chad Johnson:bull giant let them play through it yeah nah help nah i don't trust y 'all come here time out yeah phil has some hall of famers here exactly
39:22Shannon Sharpe:bonafide that's the thing and then everybody tries to adopt that style without having that those players. You ain't got Scottie. You ain't got Mike. You ain't got Kobe. You ain't got Shaq. Nope. So when you don't have that, you can't coach like that. Hell, it's easy for me to sit there on the sideline and you know. I don't know.
39:49Chad Johnson:I'm giving the Knicks the credit that they deserve, though. Big body Brunson. Oh, he's getting what he want out there, bro. He getting what he want. Where, when and what? And that's what I'm saying. Like, you know Donovan and James, they're not defenders. But hell, at some point, that Wade, that D Wade, that man, what he gonna do?
40:14Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean?
40:15Chad Johnson:So he pretty much had his way in this series. He kind of, he took with the defense game. They trapped him a couple games. He gave it up, high assist games. But he can score the ball, bro. He can get to his spots, and ain't nothing these guys can do. I mean, they been at his mercy. Hey, Philly been at his mercy. He had Mahawks at his mercy. And, I mean, he just – he doing what he want with these Cavs, bro. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm excited for the Knicks. But the thing is, Joe, is that when you got a Bronson
40:46Shannon Sharpe:and you don't have no defenders, they don't have any defenders. Right. Mitch is not a defender. Donovan is not a defender. Wade is not a defender. Mobley can defend. Jared Allen is more of a help, but there are more help defenders than all on ball defenders. So they don't really have anybody. And it's not to say you got your hands full trying to deal with this kid one-on-one anyway. But when you don't got any – first of all, you don't have enough defenders and you ain't got nobody willing to step up and want the opportunity.
41:23Chad Johnson:There you go.
41:25Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, they quick to be running. Brunson got the ball. They pointing over there. Can't get him. All you do, watch him. No, no, no, no, no. Run your ass over there. He got something for you.
41:37Chad Johnson:They won't take the challenge. No, I don't want, they don't want that, Joe.
41:42Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, they don't want the challenge.
41:44Chad Johnson:Hey.
41:46Shannon Sharpe:That's all you need to know right there, Joe.
41:48Chad Johnson:Well, listen, at this point, at this point in the series, you have no choice, man. Listen, what I told y 'all, bro, we know all y 'all plays. Y 'all know all our damn plays. Amano Amano now. Will versus Will. Man, you got to take the challenge. You have a prime opportunity here. Donovan and James. Donovan, this is his first conference finals. James making it back to the conference finals. Man, to be able to get, just to get a Knicks to run for their damn money,
42:17Shannon Sharpe:we don't want no damn sweep, man. Hey, Joe, I tell you what I saw. WS, you saw it. Old Mitch came down there. He weighed, weighed off. He got it. He got Brunson. Brunson hit his ass up. You back on it. I said, well, damn, that was quick. He weighed a man off the first time. Brunson hit his ass up. Go ahead and get it back.
42:41Chad Johnson:Right, right, right. Hey, but listen. Hey, see, my thing is when you got a guy like that who's had it going this whole entire playoffs, he's one of the best closers in this league. He's a hell of a player. He's an all-star. He's probably going to be an all-NBA player. Yep. Bro, some way, somehow, you got to find a way to make that man uncomfortable, bro. And just sitting back on your heels, waiting for him to come to you, this shit ain't going to get it.
43:08Shannon Sharpe:Catching him ain't it. Hell no. You got to pressure him. You got to have somebody that can, like they do, like they do. Like you look at the Spurs, you look at OKC, you look at teams that they pick up and they hound you from the time you inbound the ball. Yeah. They tried to deny you the inbound. Yeah, yeah. You getting the ball across half court with 18 seconds. Yeah. So now, hey, I mean, excuse me, with six seconds to run out the clock. So now you got 18 seconds to get your offense and you just crossed half court.
43:38Chad Johnson:Yeah.
43:39Shannon Sharpe:They ain't trying to give you nothing up-tempo. Hell, how many fast break points? Did Cleveland have any fast break points?
43:50Shannon Sharpe:I'm trying to figure out how to... They might have had the same number of France break points that you and I had, Joe.
43:56Chad Johnson:No, no, no. No.
44:01Shannon Sharpe:They had four. They had four more than you and I.
44:03Chad Johnson:Wow. Wow. Wow. Hey, man. That ain't going to get it. You got... Hey, you know what? You got to have a guy. And this is just from my observation throughout this playoffs. You got to have a guy, bro, who can pick up full and wear a guy down. You know, and I know y 'all keep hearing me talk about my Hawks, but you look at Dyson Daniels, who was pesty, you know, with Brunson. Outside of that, hell, he ran through the Sixers. He running through these dudes. So it's like you got to come with some resistance. Now, what I will tell you, they make it to these finals. He going to have plenty of guys who are going to be willing to pick his ass up for a court and make him work.
44:46Chad Johnson:Hey, depending on what team it is, it don't matter what team. It don't matter what team. All these guys.
44:52Shannon Sharpe:The thing is, the difference is, is that the Thunder got about four or five guys that'll pick your ass up and hound you from start to finish. They go Lou Dort. They go Caruso. They got Case and Wallace. J-Dub, we'll see if he's able to go. He might not be able to go. They'll throw Isaiah Joe in there with your ass. They got four to five guys that will pick you up. And when one gets tired, raise your hand. We'll send another one in. It's like a relay. Hey, Dort might take that responsibility. He'll pass that thing off to Caruso. Caruso will pass it off to Kayser Wallace. Kayser Wallace will hand it off to Isaiah Joe.
45:28Shannon Sharpe:And guess what? We'll come right back around.
45:30Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. They weigh you down, bro. They weigh you down. So it's going to be interesting. It's going to be interesting. Obviously, you know, they've only got to get out of this series against the Spurs. but it's going to be interesting because outside of Brunson, they don't really have no ball handlers. Like Josh Hart and Bridges, these guys aren't ball handlers. They slashes, 3 and D guys. You know, they play hard. They compete at the highest level. But, man, if you make somebody else bring this ball up, we don't know what that's going to look like.
46:01Shannon Sharpe:Right. Oh. What you want to say, Ocho? I can't wait. I mean, this series is over, huh? And Joe? It is, bro. Hey, listen, unless the NBA got to pay bills.
46:14Chad Johnson:Come on now. Come on now. I don't mean to go there, Joe. I'm just telling you now. You know, sometimes you got to get less extended a little bit, you know, get some of that sponsorship money, you know. You know, let some of that commercial money hit.
46:28Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, we can extend it if the games were close. If we got a wonderful – how are we going to extend it again? The game, you see how they beat the hell out of here? Hell, I can't even do anything to help you. Yeah, yeah.
46:43Chad Johnson:It's just tough, bro. It's tough. But to me, it don't – I mean, James had 19, 5, and 5. Yeah. Six turnovers. Bro, they just – to me, they just ain't got enough. When it comes to playing against the upper echelon teams, meaning the Knicks and hell, whoever's going to come out of this other series, they ain't got enough to compete. That's why I was so conflicted with the Detroit because I'm like, damn, I want to see Cleveland play the Knicks because they got a little more offensive firepower. But I kind of want Detroit because I know at least they're going to compete and play hard. They're going to compete to the end.
47:24Chad Johnson:Yeah, they're going to compete to the end. So to have the Cavs in this situation, bro, and on the brink of being swept at home, I mean, damn.
47:33Shannon Sharpe:So, Knicks, 121. Cavaliers, 108. The five Knicks starters in double figures. Landry Shamit came off the bench and goes 4-5 from the three-point line. He has 14. OG, 21. Cat, 13. Josh Hart, 12. Mikael Bridges, 22. And Jalen Brunson said, you know what? You know, I didn't score. I didn't score the ball. Y 'all made me into a passer. Now, y 'all went back because y 'all didn't like the way I got everybody involved. so y 'all went back to playing me head up. Y 'all see what I'm capable of. Y 'all know me. Y 'all seen my work.
48:06Chad Johnson:Yeah.
48:07Shannon Sharpe:Last three, four years, y 'all haven't seen my work enough.
48:10Chad Johnson:Oui. Picasso.
48:13Shannon Sharpe:He, exactly. Yeah, yeah. Ant-Man is one funny guy. He spoke on when Wimby got ejected in the Wolves series. Let's take a listen to what Ant had to say, guys. 53:17Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yep. That's why you got to love him. Got to love him. You got to love his honesty because he only reiterated what we all been talking about the whole damn playoffs. Wimby just too damn much. Just by him being out there on defense. Look, and the fact that the Spurs already got guards that sit down in the chair and really guard. Okay, let's say you do give them your best one-two and you get by them. Hell, look what you're running into. That man letting you know. Look, you got to alter all your damn shots that you normally just, you got to throw that thing way old damn gold now. That's why, look, when we talk about Nas Reed, I say, damn, Nas, I seen Nas throw a running damn hook.
53:57Chad Johnson:I ain't never seen that man shoot a gun running. I ain't never seen that man shit up there running hook.
54:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. He's nine foot tall. He's eight foot tall. No, he's probably about nine and a half feet tall. When he stand up, up on the rim, and don't let him jump, you can't see it. You can't even see the rim. You have a couple of floaters and stuff like that, but you're not anticipating, because think about it. You go from a regular guy playing defense, now all of a sudden his ass back there.
54:29Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah. The shot I just shot the previous time down the court,
54:35Shannon Sharpe:I can't shoot that same shot now because you're big ass in here.
54:39Chad Johnson:Right, right.
54:40Shannon Sharpe:And then, Joe, you talk about his defense. Now imagine him giving you 25, 30, 35, 40 with his defense and giving you 40.
54:52Chad Johnson:Then listen, I was watching the game yesterday because, you know, Wimby handled the ball a lot. So, hell, if he out there on the perimeter handling, the other guys are small. They're not going to be in the paint. They had five guys around the perimeter, and Wimby was at the top handling that thing, like going into his bag. Yeah. That's rare. You never see that, bro. It's always at least one guy inside the three. They had five guys outside the three. That's what makes the Spurs so much danger. I mean, hell, we all know. You know, Wimby a cheat code, bro.
55:24Shannon Sharpe:But I think they need to start him down lower, Joe. Because he said, I got to make my guys better. How can you make the guys better? You ain't got nobody that can post up but you.
55:34Chad Johnson:Right.
55:35Shannon Sharpe:I mean, that's not Castle's game. That's not Harper's game. That's not Bissell. That's not Champagny's game. So, in other words, all y 'all got, they only really got one guy that can post. That's Wimby.
55:47Chad Johnson:Yeah.
55:48Shannon Sharpe:I'm not running no damn plays for Luke Cornett.
55:51Chad Johnson:Nah. I think.
55:53Shannon Sharpe:Hornet, Hornet, nothing, no.
55:55Chad Johnson:Yeah, hey, hey. I think the physicality that Hardenstein is bringing ever since game one, keeping a body on him, being physical with him. You know, Wimby is starting to try to offset by taking him out in the deep waters. You know what I mean? Like, okay, you think you want to play rough inside here? Well, when I bring your ass out here in the deep water and drown you, there I want to see what you do. You know, now he out there playing tweening. because hartenstein can't guard that after arke ocho right no now only thing hartenstein can do is hope that he missed but if he's making them shots that's what that's what takes his game to a whole nother level i think the resistance or the physicality that that that they're bringing that hartenstein is bringing it's starting to kind of wear on him a little bit that's why he's he's been out there on the perimeter so damn much he's talking about he got to make his guys better You're right, he's going to have to establish position, you know, in the mid post, low post to where they have to double.
56:53Shannon Sharpe:Right, and so now I can get guys slashed and dive into the basket. Ain't nobody – man, you out passing three-point line, ain't nobody diving into no damn basket. You way out there and getting in the ball. You got to be on the block and have somebody when the double team come. Now you get somebody to dive to the basket. Now you got somebody – okay, you get the ball at the nail, and now you got somebody in the dunker spot.
57:14Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah.
57:15Shannon Sharpe:But other than that, no, if all five guys at the three-point line, Joe, I ain't really worried about it.
57:21Chad Johnson:No, sir. No, sir.
57:22Shannon Sharpe:I need somebody to push. You need somebody because what OKC? OKC going to put pressure on that rim. Yeah. Shea is looking to tack edges. He's looking to get on the edge. And if you don't build a wall, he going, hey, you better grill it. Because, hey, he's slippery.
57:40Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah.
57:41Shannon Sharpe:He going to get on the edge. Next thing you know, he going to throw his body. Like, come on, man, that wasn't no foul, but damn it looked like a foul. Hey, look. You can't tell the difference in real time either, Joe. What's that? I mean, you know, the foul baiting. Sometimes, you know, in full time, in real time, as fast as those players are playing, I think people watching from home, you really don't understand how fast some boys moving. When you watch from home, you know, they slow it down on TV copy, and you can see the foul clear as day. But when they moving fast as hell.
58:13Chad Johnson:Yeah. is different. Yeah, and I think Wimby, yeah, he has to establish, you know, somewhere down in the low close or the block area and kind of spray out to these guys so y 'all can get second chance opportunities. They don't get no second chance opportunities with him standing his ass out there at the three or playing on the perimeter. You know, because if he the biggest guy and he got the best handle and he, you know, going into his bag, once that shot go up, hell, if he don't make it, they don't get no second chance points. You know what I mean? We off to the races.
58:44Shannon Sharpe:because think about it, Joe. Plus, also, when he's so far out, somebody shoot a shot, they put a body on him. He can't get the ball.
58:52Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah.
58:54Shannon Sharpe:So the further you're away from the basket, the harder it is for the rebound. Yeah. And he's going to have to set that post up. He's going to have to set it much closer to the basket, Joe. If I'm okay, too. And guys are going to have to put pressure on the rim. hey oh god and the number one thing they need to do they gotta stop turning the damn ball you ain't got no chance you're not you're not even coming close to beating them you dodged a bullet in game one you like uh uh uh castle had what nine ten turnovers in game one and you won the game, did you actually think that's a recipe? He had 11 in game one.
59:43Shannon Sharpe:Joe, do you really think that is a recipe to beat the Thunder? You got so lucky. Wimby walked in and hit a Steph Curry shot like he did. You remember Steph Curry walking in there and he hit that shot and he started going crazy? Yes. He hit one of those shots and it took a lot out of him. But if you think you're going to turn the ball over 18, 20-plus times, it'd be OKC you not because they're going to get some easy buckets on your ass.
1:00:15Chad Johnson:They thrive. They thrive off them turnovers. Hey, Uncle Joe, another thing too, right? And you're saying when we need to establish down there in the post, you know that double won't come fast. That's what I want. Hey, now the onus is on everybody else. Even with that slashing, maybe they don't get that up easy. You're going to have to be able to hit them shots from outside too. Yes. You got to be efficient. I think if you OKC, you don't double him right away. I wouldn't double him right away. He had to make a couple on me, Arkan Ocho, for me to send a double team. Okay, damn it. If he done made two, three shots, all right, we don't really want him to get him rolling too good on the catch.
1:00:56As soon as he catches, let's bring the double. But for the initial, they do a great job, but just physicality, bro,
1:01:03Chad Johnson:just keeping him off the block. You know, like when BP was on here the other day, we talk about doing your work early. As soon as he come across half court, if he come inside this three-point line, it's resistance the whole time. So by the time he catch the ball, hell, we done took some of his damn legs. He ain't got too much energy and effort to give. Just keeping him 100. You know what I mean? And that's, I think, with OKC, that's their game plan. and keep a body on his ass at all times.
1:01:29Shannon Sharpe:They are. That's why he only had four rebounds. Now, plus, he don't really chase no rebounds. Because if you think about it, there have been times he had the rebound right there and the guard come take it right out of his hands. He's like, go ahead and get it. I'm like, man, look here. If y 'all see me down here, don't y 'all come down here and get the guard.
1:01:45Chad Johnson:I'm for real. That's how bigs be, though, huh? Yes. Hey, hey, hey, look, you'll have bigs tell you. They'll tell you during a timeout or a halftime after the game. Hey, man, stay your ass from down here messing my rebound now. You know, hey, them bigs don't be playing by their rebound. But you're right. Wimby ain't got that, like, stinginess to him, that greediness to him on the defensive end where he want to grab every rebound. That will come, though. That will come as long as he keeps – the longer he keeps playing and he starts to understand, you know, he wants to be an MVP. He's always going to be in the conversation.
1:02:17Chad Johnson:So to be able to – yeah, to be able to average 25-plus points, hell, double figures and rebounds, you always – he going to lead the league in blocks for the next five, seven damn years. So he'll have a, he'll have a, he'll definitely have an opportunity to be an MVP conversation every year. And I think that that would definitely be the difference.
1:02:37Shannon Sharpe:I also think the thing is, Joe, the first second unit is going to have to do a better job of keeping the OKC second unit under contained. They got to do a better job. They can't let Jay, they can't let Jay will get that. They can't let McCain get that. They can't let Caruso do. They cannot. Ever wonder how to make hosting look effortless? Here's a secret.
