In short
College football recap and debate—LSU’s 35-10 rout of Texas A&M, Oregon’s 41-27 win over USC (with a controversial late slide hit on QB Dante Moore), and Ohio State’s 42-19 win over Illinois—plus discussion of NIL, coaching movement, and player development.
Guests
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson (ex-NFL receiver; Pro Bowler/All-Pro; co-host) and Isiah “Iso Joe” Johnson (former NBA All-Star; co-host). Jacoby Jackson (Ohio State RB) joins later; background: from Pensacola Catholic (Pensacola, FL), played JUCO in Mississippi (Cahoma Junior College), then transferred to Florida before landing at Ohio State.
Key claims
LSU’s bounce-back wasn’t a “hangover”; SEC has no easy wins; USC’s defensive issues stem from personnel/scheme fit; NIL spending often misses the mark when based on potential.
Notable examples
LSU held Texas A&M under 200 yards; Oregon’s win included a late, head-first hit on Moore; Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith had 12 catches for 217 yards and 3,000 career receiving yards; Jacoby Jackson had 10 carries for 56 yards and a TD vs Illinois.

And it wasn't close. It was never close. And Texas A &M had less than 200 yards of total offense.
6:26Shannon Sharpe:It was a complete domination by LSU. They had everything going tonight. They ran the football extremely well. They threw the ball extremely well. had over 500 yards of total offense while holding their opponent to under 200 yards. This is the way, guys, you want to bounce back after you got beat last week. The Lane Kiffin reunion, bless you. What did you like about the way, Ocho, Joe, what did you like about the way LSU bounced back tonight at home under the big lights?
6:53Chad Johnson:Man, hey, I like the fact that it wasn't a hangover. You know what I mean? those guys were able to really pretty much overpower Texas A &M, man. They just got too much. From offensively, but that defensive line, that defensive front, the havoc that they causing, you know, weekend, every weekend, bro, it's just too much. In the SEC, you don't get a night off, bro. You don't get a night off. I think LSU has, you know, they answered the bell, bro. You know, when you think about it here, I think that was Ole Miss Super Bowl last week.
7:34Shannon Sharpe:They ran it. We're going to talk about them. They definitely ran into a buzzsaw. You know, I don't know what people thought Florida was going to be, but Florida might be better than people thought they were going to be. Look, there's some – you know, they got Georgia and Alabama got Georgia and all these teams, Mississippi State. So we're going to find out. Man, look here. I think it's going to be really, really difficult for somebody to go undefeated in the SEC. I just think it's too – I mean, even with Texas being the number one seed in Alabama and Georgia and Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, I just think it's going to be too difficult to go undefeated in that conference.
8:11Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, LSU, you know, they lost last week, but they bounced back in tremendous fashion, beat a ranked team. I think Texas A &M is going to probably fall out of the ranking after this shellacking. They dropped 14 spots last week, and then they get drubbed again. So I don't see how they stay in the top 25. But what did you like about what you saw from LSU? Listen, I really enjoyed it. Lane Kiffin offensively, defensively, hell, even special team. This was a great game for them, a very good bounce-back game. Obviously, beating the ranked opponent, I thought I would have got a little bit more effort, a little bit more offense, especially out of Texas A &M with Marcel Reed being that quarterback.
8:46but obviously you can see the difference, the difference in caliber of players that each team, each college has on their team. Jackson Harris, the receiver for LSU, had one H of a day. I'm trying to work on not cursing. He had one H of a day today. He played well. I don't know. I keep butchering the quarterback's last name. Levitt? Levitt. There you go. Levitt. Levitt. Levitt. Levitt looked good. Levitt looked good. But you know what? Excuse me. It was a good game. It was a good game. game for LSU. So I'm surprised. They still got some big games on their schedule. I'm curious. I'm curious how they're going to respond and play when they play another opponent that is, that is, that is of equal or better talent.
9:29If that makes sense.
9:31Shannon Sharpe:Well, you know, they got, they still got Alabama on their schedule. They play, and I think they still have Florida on the schedule. Florida looked really good today. We'll talk about them a little later. Yeah. I thought Texas A &M would show better, but I'm disappointing in Texas Stadium considering how they lost last week, and then I thought Marcel Reed would improve on what he had started building last year. It seems like he's regressed. I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's the play calling. I don't know if it's the offense. I don't know what happened. They dropping all the damn balls, too.
10:05Shannon Sharpe:They dropping some balls, but he throwing some, he killing some worms out there also. So let's forget those worms he's killing. He's skipping balls. Yes, sir. But no, look, this was one of those. I would not have wanted to be the team that played LSU in Baton Rouge under the lights. After that loss? After that loss. You're exactly right because you know you were going to get their best effort. And that's what Texas A &M got. They ran into a juggernaut tonight. And LSU, they started fast. And then they just got better and better and just kept building on that momentum. and Texas A &M couldn't stay on the field.
10:42Shannon Sharpe:The last thing that you want to have happen is a team build momentum and then you continuously go three and out because they've already caught a rhythm and they're going to put points on the board every time they get the football moving forward. So Texas A &M is going to have to be much better. And I don't know, you know, they still got Texas on their schedule. They got Alabama on their schedule. It doesn't get any easier for them either. I mean, like Joe said, there are no easy. It used to be, well, we got Kentucky, we got Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt, you got Ole Mississippi State, you got some easy wins in the SEC.
11:13Shannon Sharpe:That's no longer the case. No, sir. That is no longer the case because on a given Saturday, one of these teams will pop up and bite you when you least expect them. Obviously, we see Ole Miss have gotten better, Mississippi State gotten better, even Vanderbilt in Kentucky. We saw Kentucky last week, what they did to Texas A &M, and then followed it up with another victory today. So there are no easy wins in the SEC, but I was very impressed with what I saw from LSU.
11:37Chad Johnson:Yeah, they were dominant. They were more dominant team. I think offensively, man, when you had them explosive plays like that, especially at home, you're able to rally around that, and it gives the defense a little more confidence too, bro, because they were stingy tonight defensively, Ocho. They weren't giving up nothing.
11:57Shannon Sharpe:Very. You figure you hold a college team to less than 200 yards, you've kind of done something. What? Because you know how much space they play in, Ocho and Joe. They play in so much space, and they just rattle off plays. You look at LSU rushing. They had a 36-yard run, an 18-yard run, and a 14-yard run. In the passing game, they have a 57-yard completion, a 36-yard completion. Two receivers go over 100 yards. Jackson Harris, six for a buck, 63, two touchdowns. Winston Watkins Jr. had five for a buck, seven. So, look, the lion's share of the yards came from two guys. But, hey, you take it. The one thing, look, yeah, sometimes Lane Kiffin's antics rub you the wrong way.
12:37Shannon Sharpe:I don't really have a problem with him letting, you know, Lil Wayne come one week, and I think he had Poirier, and he had these guys. I don't have a problem with that. Let the guys, if you got people, celebs and entertainers and influencers that want to come to your program, hey, let it have it. I'm sure the kids love it. Yes. But some of his antics, you know, him shooting basketballs on the sideline and doing all that crazy stuff, I think that's a bit too much for me. Right. Hey, I'm sure LSU fans love it, but hey, to each their own. But I don't really have a problem with some of the other stuff that he does.
13:07Shannon Sharpe:Look, you know it's just a matter of time he's going to wear out his welcome. That's kind of where he's been everywhere he's been. Right. He was at USC. He was at Tennessee. He was the OC at Alabama. He was the head coach at Ole Miss. You just know it's a matter of time. You just hope before he wears out his welcomes, you guys, he gets you a national championship. He wins one, yeah. Yeah. As a matter of fact, if I think he's able to win one, which I think he will do, maybe not this year, but as he continues to build that program and get some of those players for that NIL money, I think he will win one.
13:38I say give it another two. Give it another two years, maybe three, if that.
13:43Chad Johnson:Hey, I don't think he – I know Unk going off patterns. Unk, you're going off patterns based off Lane Kiffin's history. I don't know, man. Maybe he found the right one to make him settle down and stay with one team. Maybe he don't be so flicker like he's been in the past. That's possible. I like that, Joe. Joe, I see what you put together. They put man on the moon, Joe.
14:07Shannon Sharpe:They put man on the moon. There's a guy walking around right now, if I read that correctly, with a pig heart. So anything's possible, but the likelihood based on what he's done with the Oakland Raiders, with the Tennessee Volunteers, with USC, with Ole Miss, as the Alabama offensive coordinator. This is in 16 in about 15 years. Oh. Look. Look, we can't have a problem. What I have a problem with is that coaches get to bounce around and there's no cap on how much money they make or how many times they can move. I have a problem when they implement that and try to put it on the student athlete. Yeah, yeah.
14:48Shannon Sharpe:Where you can only move this many times and you can only make this amount of money. Cap the coaches. You're talking about it's unsustainable. What's unsustainable is you paying a guy 80-something million dollars and firing him after a year and you got to pay him 77 million or having 54 million or having 40, 50 million on contracts and you have to pay these coaches off and bring an entire new staff in. That's the problem that I have. Lane Kiffin leaving, it is what he is. This is who he is. I believe this is who he is. Hopefully, like I said, before he wears out his welcome, and give him one. He gets him a championship.
15:23Shannon Sharpe:$13 million, they give him a lot of money for NIL and to bring certain guys in. He is what he is. Probably if I was a kid, I think when you're a kid, Ocho and Joe, and you see that kind of stuff, it doesn't bother you. No. But as you get older, you're like, man, he doing too much. Yeah, but also you got to understand, these are young kids now. And having Lane Kiffin as your head coach, Uncle Joe, those players can relate to that. They can relate to that. He understands exactly what he's doing and being relatable to those players. Yeah, you're right. And it's easier, you know, not only when your program is winning, it's easier to get them to come to your school where you can relate to them.
16:03Not only relate to them, not only you can coach them. You know how to talk to them. So there's so many different variables and factors that go into why Lane Kiffin acts the way he does because he understands what it's going to take to win.
16:15Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey, you can get kids to come to your school. You got that dollar too, Joe. Yeah, yeah. Hey, you got to have that mighty dollar now. I wish you were right.
16:22Chad Johnson:You got to have that mighty dollar. But Ocho, when those kids resonate with the coach, bro, it makes them go out there and compete a little more harder versus a guy who's just, you know, they just look at it as a regular coach. You know, if they really mess with you, they feel like you really got their back. Bro, they're going to go out there and compete. I'm talking about to the buzzer sound. And that's what you want. That's what Lane Kiffin got right now. He does.
16:46Shannon Sharpe:and you see he's very animated on the sideline. He's running up and down the sideline. He's pumping his fist. Hey, cussing out the ref. I think the shooting of the basketball was a bit much. The first game I thought, you know, shooting hoops on the sideline, I thought that was a bit much on Joe and Joe. I could get down with a lot of stuff, but let the players do that. You know, you got the turnover belt. You know, everybody got a turnover belt or they got a turnover chain or they got the shoulder pads that they put on for turnovers and stuff like that. Let the players indulge in that. I think that should probably be beneath the coach.
17:18Yeah, but that's what makes it so dope. That's what makes it so dope. Listen, you get a turnover. I'm not sure when they shoot that ball or when they shoot the ball, whether it's a turnover, whether it's a touchdown. But to have your head coach have the player probably give him the ball, man, shoot this. We just scored. Man, shoot this. We just got an interception. Man, them kids love that, man.
17:37Shannon Sharpe:Man, see Ocho be on some bulljive.
17:39Chad Johnson:Nah, he kind of got a point, though, Unc. He kind of got a point. You know, you know, these kids want you to be they want you to be all about the BS. You know what I mean? They do. Oh, you know how it is. You know, hey, when they feel like they can resonate with you, bro, and you doing stuff that's kind of out of character as a coach. These kids like that, bro. They gravitate toward it and they make it a huge thing because it's not the norm. So I understand where I'm coming from. Uncle old school. Hell, he ain't about none of that.
18:13Shannon Sharpe:and sometimes Joe you gotta rise above that cause your kids will have you doing all kinds your kids will have you out there twerking and doing all kinds of stuff and then you go you know hey my kids I just hey I wanna be on my kids level sometimes sometimes we gotta stay the coach here and the players here Ocho me and you gotta stay above that Ocho he gonna be out there doing that see unk like Bobby Knight and Phil Jackson he like Bobby Knight and Phil Jackson He got some no lyrics in it. He not going to do it. Oh, you know, he like Tom Coughlin. He like Tom Coughlin and Bill Parselt. No fun, strictly business, you know?
18:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. The fun is winning. The most fun I've ever had. What's the most fun you've ever had, Joe? Winning. Yeah. See, Ocho going to be all in the referee's face talking about. That's cool. He going to be doing stuff like that. Yeah, the kids going to love it. But you going to do it too much, Ocho. Hey, Joe. Ocho got to evolve, man. You got to evolve with the time now. You got to.
19:13Chad Johnson:Hey boy, I know. I said, come on, man. I know where I'm coming from though. I'm telling you, boy, he got some Nolan Rixon in him too now. Yeah. Hey, boy, he gonna make you put some work in, boy.
19:27Shannon Sharpe:A &M got the fifth highest NIL budget. So they're paying a premium, the fifth highest, Ocho. They got beat. They got beat at home by Kentucky. then they go on the road get drugged by Ole Miss I'm excuse me by LSU it ain't gonna get no better it ain't gonna get it easier I have a question yes if they had the fifth highest NIL where's the money what player I know the quarterback Marcel Reed I know he has it but where did the rest of money go because nobody showed up tonight exactly that's the thing that don't mean they didn't spend money that means you just spent money on the wrong thing well it's everything is And you see something like, man, me, you give me and my brother a dollar, my brother will come back with 15 things.

20:14Shannon Sharpe:I'm coming back with like two things. Yeah. He going to get 12, he going to get 20 cookies, he going to get a bag of potato chips, he going to get a soda, and he going to get some penny candies. Not Shannon. Listen, hey, Uncle Joe, I don't know what they did. I'm getting 200 bars and two sodas. Hey, listen, I mean no disrespect, and I mean this in the most respectful way. NIL, this is another thing, where college teams or college, the entities in general, they can't just be handing out money. You're supposed to hand out NIL money for players that you know are going to be an impact in your program.
20:48You think they are?
20:50Shannon Sharpe:Huh? You think they are? Ocho, it's like you play an NFL. We just had a conversation about Vlad Guerrero. He just got$500 million. You think they gave him$500 million because they didn't think he was going to be able to hit 30 homers with 120 RBIs and hit, like, 285 to 300 right yeah i i gave this guy i gave this guy coming out of high school or i got a guy out of a portal and i gave him half a million i gave him a quarter of a million half a million i'm thinking i'm going to get the guy that i saw on tape that i really loved over there and when he comes here he's going to do exactly that yeah okay i got you and all of a sudden i get him here oh joe he's like oh bro you just got my money hey hey hold on hold on you ain't nothing like what i
21:30Chad Johnson:thought you were gonna be go ahead joe we're talking potential we're talking potential this is what they're paying for okay oh yo hell they don't know who's paying out to be what this is just right this is who we have as five star or who's supposed to be the top whatever we invest in them early that's what they doing they going to get them early bro but hell they everything is based on potential they don't know who gonna do what yeah but see that's when you get when you
22:00Shannon Sharpe:You get your lady. You basing it off on potential. You don't know if she gonna turn out to be what you thought she was gonna be or not. You just, that's potential. There you go. Yeah, from the aesthetically, oh, she stacked like dirty laundry in a dorm room. You got skin flawless. Don't even need to wear makeup. But you put a little gloss on, a little blush here and there. Come on, now. And when she hug you, her face ain't on your shirt. Hello. Boy, that's what, hey, boy. I love that. But she with them heels, she's stamping like a Paladin pride. You know, pop, pop, pop.
22:36Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, listen. To the chat, to the women out there, it's nothing better than a beautiful woman. I'm talking about she don't have to put on no makeup, just raw beauty. No. Oh, my God. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, hey, but Joe, you know, listen.
22:53Shannon Sharpe:So we scooping her up. Ocho, we scooping her up. Yes, sir. based on potential. Now we get, oh my God. Hey, it ain't nothing like you thought it was, huh? I should have left your ass where I found you. Hey, it ain't nothing like you thought it was, huh? No. You remember that, the frog, oh, he just sang, he get in front of the guy, he just sang left and right. Everybody's doing the Michigan right. As soon as they get him in front of the talent guy, he don't say nothing. he can't say yeah i know what you mean she with you you're like oh boy look at that yeah yeah yeah yeah boy she a mean yeah yeah boy you get her and lord have her hey but hey they they they they hey uncle joe you know they're fool you like that boy they're like that i'm just saying i'm just saying over the years you know i understand the experience you talking about you know i i've been there i've been that tenfold joe joe you know you see him on instagrams you know yeah looking a certain way so i say okay well she got everything together everything she got it all together and come to find out what she got she got it all together because somebody else did it for her so now she get to me and now i got to keep up with the lifestyle oh no absolutely not you know i pass i pass hey man i was in a situation man every time i turn around she told my god made a way I say, my name's Shannon.
24:22Shannon Sharpe:My name ain't God. What the hell you talking about? I get that. You up here talking about God made a way. I love an independent woman. You ain't independent. You need to take that I-N off and put dependent. Hey, you gotta chill. Hell, I'm about to fire you on my taxi. Hey, you gotta chill. You gotta chill. Hey, you gotta chill, bro. Man, they be doing that. You gotta chill. I don't have no problem. And Chad, don't get women. I love women that can do for themselves. I'm cool and I don't got a problem doing, but it's when you start talking about you independent and God made a way. And I, I don't know.
24:59Chad Johnson:And you saying, you know, the truth. It can. I get what you're saying. Yeah.
25:05Shannon Sharpe:So you, so you basically said just what I'm doing. I'm paying rent. I got the car. I'm paying all your bills except your phone bill. But you talk about God made a way. Mama ain't named me God. She named me Shannon.
25:17Chad Johnson:Hey, Hey, Hey, It's just like on Christmas. They say Santa Claus brought them gifts. Yeah. Bambleed. Okay. Hey, Joe, that's a good question, too. I don't mean to go off topic, but when we talk about Santa Claus and we talk about kids, how long do we let our kids know that Santa's not real and we're the one that's getting the gifts? Oh, Joe, who said Santa ain't real, man? Come on, man. We got kids watching. No, but you just said it, Joe. I ain't say nothing. I ain't say it. I said it's just like Christmas. That's all I said. I didn't say nothing. Right. I know, but Joe, I understand the context in which you were trying to imply.
25:51Now I'm just saying with French fry, should I let her know it's me or do I have her keep leaving out the cookies and milk?
25:57Shannon Sharpe:Nah, man, you know you gotta have your home. Keep leaving out. She's still too young. I think I'll buy eight or nine. I'll probably buy seven. Seven? Yeah, my grandfather told me. He said, boy, I ain't gonna let no man take no credit for the issue I bought. Hey, Ocho, But Marty Ford didn't play that. Hey, Santa Claus is a, that didn't have Marty Ford operated.
26:20Chad Johnson:Ocho, you still gotta have your homeboy dress up like Santa and come over there and surprise her and all that. You know what I mean? Hey, I gotta do one of them.
26:28Shannon Sharpe:I like that. Yeah, man, you gotta do that, man. Yeah, yeah. But I'm sorry, Chad, we got off topic. We talking about NIL. Texas A &M got money. Hey, how many get way over there? How we get all the way over that?
26:43Shannon Sharpe:Because Joe, we talk about potential. And I say it a lot of times, we base our partner on potential. We like what we saw. We think she has the makings of being that rider, that right hand, that real, that they speak of in the Bible. Yes, sir. Man. Hey, what we wish?

30:08Shannon Sharpe:Straight to left field. Number 20, Oregon defeats number 12, USC 41-27. Scared seen in the second quarter when quarterback Dante McMore was obviously sliding. USC Desmond Stevens led headfirst, knocking him out. More laid motionless. He was later carted off the field, but he has movement in all of his extremities while being evaluated at a Los Angeles General County hospital. Was this hit dirty? Ocho. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely it was dirty. Not only was it dirty, quarterback slid very late. He slid extremely, extremely late. But still, the defender, you know he's going to slide. Just pull up.
30:48Just pull up, man. Embrace him. Don't even go down. And then you headhunt him. You headhunt him, Joe. All the way there. Come on, man. And the head hits the back of the turf.
30:57Chad Johnson:You think it was dirty, Ocho? okay hey yeah hey hey joe that was one um that was that was one yeah that was i know it look yeah i'm just being honest because you know he you know he gonna go down he's a smaller quarterback too he poses no threat to you he's not finna run through you you know he finna slide and when he did when he did slide he said i'm i'm going in too i'm i'm gonna go exactly that's the point he low
31:22Shannon Sharpe:because because you got a monkey go over the top of it like we used to do when we did when we were playing football monkey roll? Yeah, go right over there. Just go over the top of him. Go ahead, Joe.
31:32Chad Johnson:I just don't know if it was a, you know, if his intent was to really hurt him. Like maybe make contact, but I don't know if it was - Intent only matters to him. I know what I'm saying. Is Dante Moore still knocked out
31:43Shannon Sharpe:whether he intended to do it or not?
31:45Chad Johnson:We playing a barbaric sport. Hell, if I dive down for a tackle, you know what I mean? And he go low too, you know, we gonna have incidental contact. I just don't -
31:54Shannon Sharpe:But Joe, it's a quarterback though, Joe. Let me say this. I can see if he was going for a pass. You going for a pass. You diving for a pass. I'm going. We hit head on. But when I'm going in for a slide, all you got to do is just touch me down. I can't get up and run this. I mean, because basically I'm saying I give up. I'm giving up. Anytime I go into a slide, I give up. Quarterback is not the only one that can go into a slide. A wide receiver, a running back can give himself up. I just thought the thing was, and the trajectory, look how low he was.
32:33Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah.
32:34Shannon Sharpe:He hit him in his head, and you know the first day he's going to hit, his head going to hit the turf. The back, yep. And then you see the richness of his arm, so he out. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
32:45Chad Johnson:That was back then. Yeah. But I thought the backup came in, bro. Hell, I mean, he was just as good. Hell, he might have been better. Hey, he was 19 for 25.
32:57Shannon Sharpe:19 for 25, 289, two touchdowns. They were cutting, boy. Look here. I don't know how much long old Stank and Lank is going to be in USC.
33:08Chad Johnson:What? Why?
33:09Shannon Sharpe:Because their issue is not offense. For whatever reason, they cannot get a defensive coordinator. Oh, yeah. Your backup, you allowed a backup to come in and drop 41 on you? There ain't no regular backup now. This boy here supposed to be. Hey, hold on. Hold on. and you got to understand too now. Yes, go ahead. You say they can't stop nobody. They couldn't stop Oregon State, right? I'm talking about Oregon State. They couldn't stop Oregon, but you got to have the personnel to be able to implement the defense you want to run. I mean, what's the point of having a scheme? You ain't got the players to run the scheme you want.
33:41Shannon Sharpe:If you can't get players at USC with all that money they got. You gotta go. You're right. You gotta go. You think USC got money like that when it comes to - Do they?
33:52Chad Johnson:Oh, Joe, stop playing. Hold on. What you mean? Hold on, now. Wait a minute. When we talk about NAL money, I don't hear USC name being on top of anything. You just mentioned Texas A &M. I didn't even know they were number five.
34:05Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Texas A &M got the oil money. You see they got Jimbo Fisher out of them oil, they made the four million. What do they care about that? I remember that. I remember that. So what do they care about money? That's what I'm saying. You see LSU? Did they get Brian Kelly out of their oil, them 54 million? Yes, sir. They don't care nothing about that money. Boy, USC got them big, big, big, big, big donors.
34:24Chad Johnson:These SEC teams y 'all talking about now, these two different ball games, two different conferences we talking about. I know USC historic, but when we talk about the SEC, come on now. It's the cream of the crop, baby.
34:37Shannon Sharpe:Look, obviously, people they go to, I mean, it used to be USC. USC didn't lose anybody that was in California, Southern California. They didn't lose it. Ain't nobody got out of the state. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A lot of the good players get out of the state because USC hasn't really contended for a national championship in such a long time.
34:57Chad Johnson:All that talent out there in the West Coast, how do you let that talent get out of state?
35:02Shannon Sharpe:Because Ohio State might offer a little bit more. I mean, Bryce Young went to Alabama. CJ Stroud went to Ohio State. Look at all the guys that could potentially go to USC, stay in state, leave the state. The funny thing about it, too, if you think about all the NFL players, right? Yep. That are from L.A. or from California in general and how they went all over the place. Imagine if they all went to USC. USC would still be dominant like they were when Reggie Bush was there. Man. Because they used to get those guys. And USC used to be able to recruit like Ohio State, Alabama. Yes, yes. The USA wasn't just in-state.
35:43Shannon Sharpe:Some states really can only recruit their state. Now, if you just can recruit Florida and California and Texas, you're pretty damn good. But they used to be able to cast the net. They go to Jersey. They go all over the place. They come all over and can get everybody. Now you get teams like Ohio State that's able to do that. You get Alabama that's able to do that. You get a handful of teams that are able to go anywhere in the country and be able to pull the best players out. and you know USC is no longer I think USC got money you look at those big time donors Jeffrey Kassenberg right oh they got money yeah the funny the funny thing if they had the money then the players wouldn't have no problem coming because all you're going to do is just pay for the better players so I don't understand what the problem is another thing think about the Hurricanes yeah Tanner Moss Reggie Wayne Vince Wilford Warren Sapp Ray Lewis I mean Andre Johnson the names go on Roscoe Parrish.
36:44Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. The Miami Hurricane, Joe, are just getting back to prominence right now. Respectable prominence where there's a chance they can win an addy. Yep. Last year and this year too. But they had a long slate where all the players were going all over the place. They were getting out of there. And Miami used to be able to grow because guess what? They go get a Reggie Wayne. They go get a Ed Reed. So now you got to be able to go outside of your state and get guys. Now, Florida, look, because you got so much, you got UM, you got Florida State, and you got the Gators. Yeah. So you got three schools.
37:27Shannon Sharpe:That's a big pool to pull from. Texas. Go ahead, Ocho. Go ahead. I can't wait till we get to this game. I don't know what they did over there in Florida, but I ain't seen the Gators look like this in a long time. It's been a while. It's definitely been a while. Moore was projected to number two pick in the 2026 NFL draft, but opted return to school because he wanted to be the number one pick in the draft. He could have been balling with the Jets right now, but hey.
37:56Shannon Sharpe:That's a good one. No. Ohio State defeats Illinois at 42-19. Jeremiah Smith, 12 receptions, 217 yards, He's the first wide receiver in Ohio State Buckeye history with 3 ,000 career receiving yards. Here's Jeremiah after torturing the Illinois DBs. Do you almost feel bad when you do a guy like that, or is it just probably the best feeling in the world for a receiver? Yeah, I can say I feel bad for him. When I did that, I just started laughing when I haven't.
38:34Chad Johnson:So yeah, I feel kind of bad for him. Hey, Unc. He's so quiet. He reminded me of Joe a little bit. He seemed like a good kid, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Good dude. Good kid. But you think about it, right? You think about Miami players, people that are from Miami. He's literally from Miami, you know, Miami guards area. And they're very, very flashy. Very flamboyant. Trash talkers. He's completely different. He opposite of that, huh? Hey, he's completely opposite that. And he come from the same makeup, the same DNA, the same background, same surroundings, and he's nothing like what most of us are. And that's dope.
39:16And he balling at that.
39:17Shannon Sharpe:Oh, he balling his ass off. He's tremendous. They made a concerted effort today to get him to football. They're trying to get him to Blitnikoff Award. And I think he deserves it. Look, Malachi Tony is right there with him. But I think this kid here, you look at his body of work. Yes, sir. And we take his freshman and sophomore year and set that aside. Just look at what he's doing now. If you go back and look, he only played the first half of the opening game. He had, what, eight, four, buck, 50, two touchdowns? What could he have had? But Ryan, they see the bigger picture. Boy, son, if I go out there, we're winning a ball game 42-0 at the half, and I go out there and try to get you some cheap yards, and you get hurt, they're going to have my head.
39:58Shannon Sharpe:Yes, sir. We got no chance. We got no chance. of winning the national championship, son, unless you can stay healthy for the entirety of the season. That's the only chance we have. You're not winning a national championship with that good of a player. I don't care who else you have, and I know Ohio State have some very talented players, but this kid might be the most talented player in all of football.
40:21Chad Johnson:Oh, oh, yeah.
40:23Shannon Sharpe:So you got to like, okay, when we get an opportunity, son, we're going to air it out, and we're going to give you every opportunity to have one of the days like he had today. Yeah. And he had himself a day today.
40:36Chad Johnson:How do you guard that? What do you think, Joe? How do you guard that, Ocho? That man seemed unguardable. Hold on, Joe. What was Illinois doing? They not even doubling him. They not even doubling him. Maybe they didn't believe it, Ocho. I bet they believe in that. You're going to have to show me. Hey, I bet they believe in that. Because I'm watching the game. Why in the world do you have a safety? Why are you passing it off? It's him and the safety one-on-one.
41:05Shannon Sharpe:Yes. What are we doing? With no re-ocho, first of all, the general rule of thumb, if you're not going to double him, you got to reroute him. Yeah. You can't just let him, you just can't let him run right down the field. Man, I don't know what you're doing. Okay, without any further. When you're teeing off and your clients are watching, it's on. 44:19Shannon Sharpe:Dude, we got a very special guest joining us. We got Ohio State running back Jacoby Jackson. Today against Illinois, he had a 10 carries, 56 yards, and a touchdown. Jacoby, thank you for joining us, bro. Yes, sir. What's good? What's going on?
44:31Chad Johnson:What's happening?
44:31Shannon Sharpe:Hey, home team, what's up? What? What's happening? Shoot, man, nut man right here chilling. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Jacoby, you've had a very interesting football journey. Out of Pensacola with the Pensacola Catholic. You go to Cahoma Junior College, which is in Mississippi. I had a couple of teammates that went to Cahoma, went to Hines, went to Northwest, Ittawamba. So I'm very familiar with the JUCO area. JUCO is in Mississippi. Leave Cahoma, go to Florida, stay in Florida, I think, two years, and then you go to Ohio State. Talk to us about your transition, going from high school to JUCO, going to Florida, now finding yourself at Ohio State.
45:09Yeah, I mean, I would say it was one of the toughest times of my life, going to Juco Row. I was like kind of 18. I was about seven hours away from the crib. My mom, they kind of just dropped me off and was just like, hey man, hey, you here to play football? Yeah, so that's kind of where I was. Then I still remember from like two weeks in, I was like, man, I got to go. I got to go somewhere else because it was just that bad. And then I just remember kind of just started hanging out with some guys. I met some friends and just went from there and actually ended up enjoying it, actually ended up still talking to them.
45:45They're still my friends to this day or whatever. But, yeah, so then that's just how it was. Everything was kind of a struggle, trying to figure out how to eat, figure out everything, what school I'm going to be able to go to, everything. So I kind of just stayed prayed up and stayed working, really, at junior college. Yeah. Got me to Florida. Yeah. Hey, what has that locker room been like? Like, obviously, since that loss to Texas against Kitton, you guys scored 59. Against Illinois today, y 'all scored 42. What's the locker room? What's practice been like? What has coach, you know, instilled in you guys after that loss that has you guys playing as well as you have so far?
46:22I mean, just harping on us about the little things, you know. Like Coach say, being great in the basics. That's kind of what he says. So, you know, just like the little thing as far as if we blocking, how we blocking it up, like just basically everything. all the little stuff, like just blocking it and doing the little things the right way every day. And he's saying that will create the explosives and everything else throughout the game. So, you know, that's what we've kind of just been locked in on the bases and playing for one another.
46:53Chad Johnson:Hey, Jacoby, you missed most of last season with an injury, bro. What was the hardest part of getting back and what does it feel like to be able to contribute again? Yeah, so the hardest part of getting back was really just watching my brothers last year at my last school play the rest of the season, knowing that I couldn't go out there and compete with them. And then that was like six months. And then I had to transfer, didn't know I was going to end up at, and then end up coming to Ohio State and just trying to just gain everything back for us, just all my confidence, just being without football for six months.
47:31It wasn't even about my choice. It was just like, that's how I was. So I kind of just locked in in the weight room throughout the whole offseason in the spring and gained everything back. And now we're here.
47:44Shannon Sharpe:Jacoby, you know Ohio State is one of the most desirable places, destinations for guys to get in the transfer portal. You already know what they had there. Were you ever concerned that, damn, me going to Ohio State, yeah, I know about the facilities. I know about all the guys that get to the next level, the NFL. but man if I don't get the touches if I don't get the opportunities damn I'm gonna miss yes but no for me it was just kind of like man going and work that's all that's all I know is going and work and then you know and never get out work so I kind of just want to be one of the hardest working guys and in the building and just show up and do what I need to do you know keep my head down hey when you look at when you look at the running back the landscape of the running back not college, but the landscape of the running backs in the NFL.
48:29If you were to give yourself a comp, somebody compared to your play style, your running style, who would it be in today's game? Today's game, I would probably be Josh Jacobs.
48:39Shannon Sharpe:I like that. Okay. That's a good one, boy. That's a good one. Do a little bit of everything. You can run it if you need to run it. They can throw it to you. You're going to get out there. You're going to get out there. You'll block it. If no one got that many receptions this year, I can catch out the backfield. Yeah, I like that. Look, we see Jeremiah Smith, and we watched him, and we call him a kid, but we watched him get better and better and better year after year after year. You get an opportunity to see him every day. What's it like to watch him go about his craft and do what he does every single day and then see it come to fruition on Saturday?
49:13Yeah, man, that's crazy, man. He the real dude. I mean, the way he works in the offseason and the weight room, like I've only been in this one offseason, But, yeah, just getting here and seeing him, like, you see all the success, like, in the offseason while he get it during the season. You know, I think he's one of the hardest-working guys on the team, if not the hardest, and he loves to compete. Like, he hates losing. Plenty of times I watch him, like, come close to losing or losing, he don't like any of it. So, you know, he's the ultimate competitor. And, you know, it's been great, you know, just playing football and getting to know him this season.
49:50Shannon Sharpe:look this I mean he's in the running you got your quarterback in the running for the Heisman you got Jeremiah it's a really close race if you were a Heisman you leaning one way or another I'm gonna leave with Jeremiah I'm gonna leave with Jeremiah hey
50:07Chad Johnson:they gonna do what they can to get him there to war ain't the man I hope so I hope we get it too right so
50:16Shannon Sharpe:So you weren't that heavily recruited out of Pensacola. And so you end up having to go. Was it a grade thing? I mean, nobody? You didn't get a chance to walk on? What was going on? No, it wasn't a grade thing. It was just really COVID, I think. And then I had all my grades and I passed my ACT, my first try and everything. So I did everything I needed to do in the classroom. And, you know, that's just kind of what it was. at that moment. You know, it was... Why'd you pick up? I mean, because they... As soon as I called them, it was no question. They was like, come on, man.
50:58Shannon Sharpe:That's one thing about Juco. Juco take anybody. You could be 30. You could be... Hey, you could be driving a bus. You pull up there, driving a Greyhound bus. Hey, son, you can play? They're going to throw your helmets from shoulder pads. I have, like I said, Jacoby, I had a bunch of guys that when I played in Savannah State that came from Kahoma and Ittawamba and Hines and all those schools? Because they got a bunch of Juco. Yeah, they do. And I didn't know anything about none of them. So I kind of just – So my coach said he had a coach from Kahoma and he knew him and I was like, oh, man, I'm coming.
51:32Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. But, hey, but the thing is, it takes a special type of person to play in Juco because the amenities – Now, I don't know what the amenities are now. I just know what the amenities were back then. Now I'm sure they've after 40 years they've gotten a little better, but it ain't like Ohio State It ain't like the University of Florida. I can assure you Hey, when you look at your all schedule, right? How do you get up for each game? I know you already do but you look at some of the opponents that you're gonna play you're kind of going I'm from the outside looking in When y 'all go into a game, I look at Ohio State, Illinois.
52:09Oh, they finna win that Ohio State, Kent or they finna win that? I look at your next two games. You got Iowa, you got Maryland. In my mind, I look at that and be like, oh, Ohio State finna win that. As players, how do you stay locked in and focused and not play down to your competition where you're playing an inferior? Just knowing we're going to be greater off the film. You don't want to put out any bad film. You know that tomorrow when we get in the building, that's the first thing we're going to do is cut on the film. So just knowing what our coaches are and what we expect from each other and we're just trying to be the best.
52:41So we're always trying to put out the best.
52:44Chad Johnson:Hey, Jacoby, you played in the SEC and now the Big Ten. You know, as a running back, what difference do you feel when you line up against those defenses, bro? I feel like it's really more movement in the Big Ten than really in the SEC. Really? Yeah, that's what I really think, me personally, from the game that I just played today, my first Big Ten game. That's what I think.
53:10Shannon Sharpe:Okay. So you, you, you think it like, if you look at SEC, they just like athlete talent for talent. We just going to line up and play foot. Yeah. I mean, they got some, it's some different, it's some different ways that they, they scheme me up too, but I was just saying like from a schemes standpoint. Yeah. So what's it, what, what, what, what has it been like? What is, what do you think the biggest difference is the university of Florida, where you spent a couple of years to Ohio state, what would you say is the biggest difference as far as, is like nutrition, the classroom, the campus life. What is the biggest difference?
53:43I would say it's very similar there. That's really very similar. You know, there's a lot of people in games. There's a lot of people down here in Columbus. I would just say they both really all for football and everything like that. I would say they are really more a little crazy here of Ohio State football. Ohio State football from my experience so far. And, you know, that's just what I think. Yeah. Hey, outside of football, you have any passions, like something you like to do? I'm thinking about when I was in college. Yeah, when I was in the NFL, my passion outside of football was smoking cigars and gaming.
54:18I'm a huge gamer. You have something that you're passionate about outside of football? Yeah, I mean, I play the game, and I do like to go fishing, but I haven't really found anywhere down here to go fishing. Yeah, so.
54:27Shannon Sharpe:Okay. Oh, so you're a country boy at heart, huh? You like to go fishing and do stuff like that? Yeah, and I hoop a little bit every night then. Oh.
54:37Chad Johnson:Oh, you got some game, bro? Yeah, I hope a little bit. Yeah? Hold on, hold on. What kind of game? Who you model your game at? Give us somebody who you like, man, I play similar to him. Hooper. Hooper Wise. In my prom, like in my high school days, I'd probably say Bron. Bron? God! Bron. Damn. I did it all like Bron back in my time. Hold on, Turbo. Hold on, Turbo. Slow down. Turbo, slow down. Tell him Jacoby you ain't.
55:08Shannon Sharpe:You might be Jacoby, but you had a game like I play AAU with Team Memphis. Reggie Davis' team out of Pensacola. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
55:18Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah, that's my guy. Reggie Davis, that's my dude, bruh. Yeah, I used to hoop. Y 'all win the championship that year? Y 'all take the championship? We won a lot of tournaments. I don't know about the championship.
55:34Shannon Sharpe:So, hello, you in today. So you ain't going out today. Y 'all want a big game at home? I'm sure the campus is buzzing. They got parties. You're not a party. Hey, you just, hey, do your work. Come in and get ready for tomorrow. Yeah, I've been at the crib these last couple of weeks. I've been sticking to it. You know, I've stayed in the crib on Saturday nights. I've been getting in the box and the touchdowns, so I got to stick to it.
55:54Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah, you're superstitious. I got to stick to it right now. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, you trying to stay locked in, ain't you? Yeah, I'll be locked in right now. Hey, that's what's up, bro. That's what's up, man. Stay locked in. Let me tell you something. He working now. He working. The devil working, boy. Stay locked in. Stay locked in. For sure.
56:14Shannon Sharpe:So how do you stay in focus? You mentioned like, you know what? Hey, the last couple of weeks I haven't been going out. I've been staying locked in to make sure I'm up for the task. You know as you move forward, the game is going to get tougher and tougher and tougher. What do you do? I mean, are you a guy to get in the cold tub? You get in the sun and all that. You do all that stuff? Yes, sir. I do all that. I take care of my body. And on these days, I kind of just, after our game, we used to play at 12. So I've just been here watching football all day.
56:43Chad Johnson:Hey, I got a question. Do they make y 'all get massages after games and stuff now in college? Yeah, you can choose to sign up. You can choose to sign up for one. Yeah, they got a paper for you. Just put your name down in the time slot. Okay, okay.
56:59Shannon Sharpe:So, hey, tell me about that training table. Because I know I see y 'all, man, y 'all got crustables. Y 'all got everything. They cooking. I mean, you got chicken, turkey, all that stuff. I mean, you can just eat whatever you want. So is the CAF open 24-7? Yeah, it usually opens from about 8 to about 4. And then we get like this red card that can get us a meal throughout the day, throughout the week. Okay. So what's your meal? What's your go-to meal? So for breakfast, let's just say a weekday, what do you get for breakfast? What do you eat for lunch? For breakfast, I'll probably just grab me some oatmeal and some eggs.
57:37Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Around lunch. You don't want none of that swine, huh? Nah, just grab me some eggs and some, you know? Hold on, hold on. Hey, hey, hey.
57:46Chad Johnson:So you eat this before the game? Yeah, I ate this earlier. Oh, okay, okay. Yeah, just a little eggs and oatmeal. Nothing too big. Yeah, yeah.
57:59Shannon Sharpe:What's your lunch meal? It really depends. sometime we had chipotle we had some philly cheese steaks oh yeah never you never know you they might they might mix it up some uh barbecue boneless wings or something like that
58:10Chad Johnson:you know yeah they may throw some pizza they throw some pizza in there now and then yeah throw some sliders in there yeah yeah yeah because see damn man i need to come back to school as an 18 year old they feed them like that uh you know them boys got them high metabolism so They can eat all that stuff right now. I'm talking about it. It's going to come right off of them. Yeah, they ain't coming off me. I'm going to be 300. I'm here in all these different restaurants, all these different foods and delicacies. I ain't here the main thing yet. What's that? No McDonald's? You know I got to stay with the McDonald's.
58:46What? Come on, twin. That's what I'm talking about. Come on. I got to stay. I got to stay. I just grabbed me a little McDonald's with your cheese and ketchup. Hey. That's what I'm talking about. What? You hear that, Unk? That's how we do that. Come on, man. With a little small, bro.
59:02Shannon Sharpe:Come on, man. Yeah. That looks small. That must be a Florida fan. Y 'all eat McDonald's like that, man. McDonald's is like a once. How many times a week you eat that? Once a week? Twice a week? I give at least twice. Hey, hey, hey, hey.
59:16Chad Johnson:Hey, keep it a bean. Them fries don't make it two blocks through the main. Them fries be gone quick. Yeah, they don't even make it to the corner. I'll be like, sometimes you got to grab a little lorry, man.
59:29Shannon Sharpe:Hey, like LaBelle Crawford said, you got to get some ride fries. You got to get one to get home. And one to ride with two to get home. Hey, man, thank you for joining us tonight, man. Congratulations on a great season thus far. Keep it going. Stay healthy. And we'll talk to you guys. Yes, sir. Appreciate y 'all. Y 'all have a good night. Yes, sir. All right. All right. Appreciate it, bro. Have a good one. Love. Yeah man, when you, hey, see when you young, what it'd be like, hey Joe, just think about when I was 18, probably from the time I was about 25, just to be able to eat anything I wanted to.
1:00:06Shannon Sharpe:Oh man, still sit tall.
1:00:08Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, that's when your metabolism on that freeway out there going 100 mile power, hell. When it get off and you just going street light to street light, you know what I mean? As it get older, it just don't hit the same. Yeah, don't hit the same. I show, I show. I mean, I get it. Go ahead, Ocho, would you say? I often ask y 'all, man, well, hell, when the hell my metabolism gonna slow down? I'm telling you, man, you remind me of one of my homeboys, bro, who got a fast metabolism, can eat anything he want. He's still gonna be ripped up and everything. Like, damn. Joe, you're not understanding.
1:00:40My issue is, is my metabolism is so fast. Now that I'm of age, I'm trying to put on muscle. Like, I'm trying to sit right. Joe, because I play soccer every Sunday, right? I can't hold no mask. I'd be looking sick sometimes, Joe. Ocho, Ocho. I'm like, well, God damn. I'm 58, and I can't hold. At some point, everybody talk about metabolism. Everybody talk about, oh, when I retired, oh, I got fat. It's just, I want that.
1:01:10Chad Johnson:Ocho, you blessed. I want that. You blessed. You blessed, young man, okay? Everybody ain't able to have a metabolism like that. I seen them man eating donuts and coffee and everything at two in the morning. Come on, man.
1:01:27Shannon Sharpe:First of all, I ain't going to be up that time to eat anything. But I mean, the fries, though, McDonald's fries. Yeah, they don't make it home. They're undefeated. They don't make it home. No.
1:01:42Hey, y 'all want to do me a favor?
1:01:43Chad Johnson:What's up? What? Hey, y 'all can come to Miami, right? And support my Sunday league team. What'd you mean? Do what? Come support my Sunday league team when I play on Sundays. Soccer? You talking about your soccer team? Yeah, come watch me play. So you can see how good I am. How are we gonna watch the game
1:02:00Shannon Sharpe:that we watching you play? On your phone.
1:02:07Hey, what's the schedule, bro? Can you give us a schedule? We play tomorrow. Hey, yeah, we play tomorrow at 3.30. All right, we ain't gonna make tomorrow.
1:02:13Chad Johnson:so it's like why i could we it's late notice bro damn we just getting wind of it i know you could catch a flight in the morning joe yeah we got stuff to do oh joe hey chat if anybody anybody in miami you know you come on down to kennel soccer park we play tomorrow at 3 30.
1:02:37Shannon Sharpe:looking at a uh ohio state schedule they got uh iowa who just went to just went to Michigan and beat them. They got Maryland who just got trounced. Ooh. At Indiana. At USC. They'll drop 60 on USC. Ohio State will. Oregon at home. Yeah. Against Maryland?
1:03:04Yeah.
1:03:05Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Northwestern, Nebraska, and Michigan at home. They gonna run the table. Hold on, hold on, hold on. I mean, Indiana might be a good one though, Unc. Indiana's gonna be a game. That's gonna be a game, Ocho. Outside of that, they gonna run the table. They, they, they.
1:03:21Chad Johnson:Go ahead, Joe, what you wanna say? They don't look that strong defensively to me, Unc and Ocho. I mean, think about when they play something. Who, that Ohio State? Yeah, when they play against some of the better competition, I just think, you know, even, even, even losing to Texas, obviously blowing their lead, but I, I mean, come on, man, this Illinois. noise. Nah, I ain't rolling. I gotta see it against the top. I gotta see some of these top echelon teams.
1:03:46Shannon Sharpe:So you want to see them play Indiana, huh?
1:03:49Chad Johnson:Yeah, I ain't rolling with this. I mean, this was cute because USC
1:03:53Shannon Sharpe:ain't got no defense. He might have another 200-yard game against them. Shoot, might make it 300. Might. Maryland ain't gonna... It'll be interesting to see what they do at Iowa, you know.
1:04:12Could it be an upset? Because we saw an upset today.
1:04:17Shannon Sharpe:Oh, when they beat Michigan in the last place? What? Back shoulder.
1:04:24Shannon Sharpe:That's a hard – you don't want to give up the fade. You're probably not even thinking back shoulder. That's the last thing you're thinking.
1:04:31Chad Johnson:You can tell. And dude put it perfect. I'm talking about right on the money.
