In short
Nightcap Hour 1 covers Lionel Messi’s World Cup goal record, comparisons to Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland, plus NBA trade/contract rumors: Timberwolves trading for Julius Randle, Trae Young’s reported Wizards deal, and Giannis Antetokounmpo expected to be traded before the NBA Draft.
Guest backgrounds
No guests appear. Hosts are Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson (Joe is delayed due to flight/weather).
Key claims
- Messi scored twice vs Austria to break the record for most World Cup goals; debate includes a missed penalty earlier and claims a foot foul/incorrect referee decision should have disallowed the goal.
- Messi’s age (38/39) and continued dominance are framed as unprecedented; Mbappé is portrayed as chasing him closely.
- Timberwolves “gave away” Julius Randle in a trade for Brooklyn’s #33 pick and Minnesota’s #28 pick.
- Trae Young is expected to sign a 4-year, $212M extension with Washington (player option in year 4).
- Giannis is expected to be traded; Celtics and Heat are cited as finalists.
Notable examples
- Mbappé scoring two vs Iraq; Haaland scoring two vs Senegal.
- Messi’s “Argentina plays for Messi” framing; references to Ronaldo, Maradona, Pele, and Jordan-style greatness.

9:06Well, you know what?
9:07Shannon Sharpe:He say Lionel, but it's Lionel. You know what I'm saying? In the country, it's South. We say Lionel. Lionel Messi breaks the record for most World Cup goals scoring after he scores two versus Austria. Missed penalty kick earlier in the game. Missed the penalty kick in the World Cup history. He has the most missed penalties in World Cup history. Yes. Peter Schmeichel, I think that's how you say his name. Yeah. says that Messi's goal shouldn't have stood due to a foot foul in the buildup. Messi's goal should have been a disallowed McAllister and kicked Schlager from behind, clear an obvious mistake from the referee.
9:46Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, did Messi and co. get away with another after the match, after not being red carded in his previous match? I mean, we're still talking about that. Obviously not. You know, you're going to collide with people sometimes. If it's not, you know, purposely done, you know, sometimes the rest will overlook it. You know, Messi is not a repeat offender. And having fouls and, you know, clawing somebody, obviously it was an accident if you watch the game. Other than that, man, like, it's hard for me to continue to try to defend what I thought was the greatest player of all time in Crisciano with the way Messi is playing.
10:24What Messi has done is I already knew his greatness. I understood his greatness. and with appreciation that I have for the beautiful game in general. I understand he was one of the best to probably ever do it. And just what he's doing at his sixth World Cup, man, at 39 years old – or 38 years old, excuse me. And just – it's unbelievable. Like, you're not supposed to be – when you're 39 years old and you're playing for your country, you're supposed to be coming off the bench. Not dictating games, you know, and just – Not the best player in the World Cup. Basically. And that's what he is. I'm almost at a loss for words trying to describe what he's been able to do.
11:00Forget just his whole career, but what he's doing at 38 at the World Cup right now, man. It's unreal.
11:06Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing is, Ocho, is that in the biggest moments, he normally shows up. And he normally shows up in big ways. We saw him last year in the World Cup, and that was one of the great final matches between them and France. And then to start, I mean, here he is in 26, and he gets three goals to start, and he gets another two goals. He's got five. hell he gets another one to two goals he's gonna win the golden boot he's gonna win it again well hold on he might because Mbappe is right on his head Mbappe had two again today so Mbappe every time Messi do something Mbappe come right back and do the same thing and Erling Holland is not too far behind those two he's just phenomenal look he has 17 then he got 18 the most goals in World Cup history.
11:59Shannon Sharpe:Obviously, I think Mbappe has 14. So he's going to need to put that thing on out there because Mbappe is coming. I don't know how long he's going to have it. He looks like he might have it for at least Ocho for this World Cup considering. But considering Mbappe's age and how many more World Cups he's going to be a part of. He got at least three more. He got at least three more. You got to think this is only his third World Cup, if I'm not mistaken. And he's at 14. It took Messi. it took Messi's sixth World Cup to get to the number he's at now so Mbappe's probably gonna crush that and like you said he's right on his heels right now so Mbappe if he just can I mean it's like you're watching this and you're in awe of just how great Messi is and then you watching him I'll be like well bro y 'all know I'm not Fertuccini right and Holland is like whoa whoa whoa let's not get carried away these other two guys are great but I'm great in my own right It's just amazing.
12:54Shannon Sharpe:I mean, to sit here, and I'm not the biggest soccer aficionado, but I know greatness when I see it. Yes, sir. No matter no sport, no matter the activity, you know greatness when you watch it. Yeah. You watch people shoot billions, and you watch them play horseshoes, or you watch them bowl. You watch them throw darts. You watch them do cornhole. Yes. No matter the sport, you know what greatness is. If you don't know anything about the game, you might not know a singer, but let somebody go out there and start singing. That person can sing. Yeah, you know the difference. And the funny thing, you can actually tell exactly how good certain individuals are, even if you don't watch soccer.
13:30If you watch Argentina play, if you watch Norway play, or if you watch France play, you can tell Mbappe is a difference maker. You can just tell once he gets the ball at his feet. He can change the pace, what he's able to do. Holland is the same way. Very efficient when it comes to scoring goals. I always say, I'm at this point now. Messi doesn't play for Argentina. Argentina plays for Messi. From now on, that's it. And I need, I'm not sure when Portugal plays, but I need Cristiano to come to the party. I need his teammates to actually, to play as one. Now, I don't want anybody playing.
14:07Shannon Sharpe:So you said Messi bigger than the country now, huh? Man, listen, I don't know what else to say. He a God, man. He a God. I don't know what else to say. Like, what he's doing is ridiculous. It's ridiculous. And I know him and Cristiano play two completely different positions. Yeah, Sean will play a dependent position on his midfield. Messy can kind of control the games as a point guard in a sense. Right. You know, so I mean, but man, dude, dude, dude, dude is phenomenal, man. I mean, I think the thing is, Ocho, and I don't really know. Look, I don't really know a whole lot of great other arching times.
14:41Shannon Sharpe:I know Juan Del Potros, the great tennis player. Yes. Had to retire early because he had wrist injuries. Yes. He beat, well, in 2009, I think he beat Federer at the U.S. Open in a five-setter with a great match, Delpo. But I don't know a whole lot of great – oh, Manu. But for the most part, but soccer is the sport. And I remember Depo, he got his welcome when he went back and he won the U.S. Open, and I'm sure Manu, similar. Especially when they won the FIFA, when they won the World Cup, and then they ended up winning the gold medal in 2004. So that was a hero's welcome. But what this man doing, like I said, I don't know.
15:25Shannon Sharpe:Like I said, we don't have – we didn't have internet and we didn't have the coverage that we have now. Right. But Maradona. Maradona, yeah. Pele. Mm-hmm. Hey, hey, um, it's – and the fact that Messi makes it so easy and I have a great understanding of the game on how difficult the game is. And he just gliding past people, shooting with efficiency, shooting with his left, shooting with his right. He's always three steps ahead of everybody else. His IQ and understanding for where everybody's going to be and how to manipulate defenders to get, oh, man, his body faints. It's like, dude, you're 38.
16:04Like, what are you doing? What are you doing? You're making it hard for me to argue with people on Twitter and Instagrams about why I feel Cristiano's my goal. I mean, it's like I'm running out of things to argue about.
16:18Shannon Sharpe:And the plus to Ocho is that he's been great for so long. Yes. It's almost like, yeah, is he, I mean, and it's hard to say, but the 24-year-old Messi, he looks very similar to the 38-year-old Messi. Yeah. He's still doing it at an elite level. These guys are getting faster. They're getting stronger. And he's like, okay, and? Mm-hmm. I still can do it at an elite level. And we'd be like, retire, retire. Why? And do what? This gift I have. And that's why we talk about it a lot of times. Like, well, he should retire. It's hard to tell somebody when they're still playing at an elite level to just walk away from the game.
16:59Shannon Sharpe:And do what? When you've trained a lifetime for this moment, you don't want it to end. I don't know if, Chad, I don't know whatever your greatest moment is. Whether you've been in love and y 'all went on a honeymoon, or the first time you and your lady or your guy got together, or whether you went somewhere with your family. You didn't want that moment to end. This man has had 20 years of damn moments. Not one, 20 years. Big ones. At this point, Anki just playing for fun. He's won everything that's possible. He is. Eight Belon D 'Or's. I mean, who knows how many golden boots. He's got a World Cup already.
17:40So he basically, I just, he play playing for fans. I'm doing anything extra is just a cherry on top.
17:45Shannon Sharpe:No, he just add layers to his cake, Ocho. I mean, how many layers? The cake already, you're like a wedding cake, Ocho. They got an eight-tier wedding cake. How tall you want this damn cake? Because ain't nobody going to be able to reach up there and cut the top of it. We got to start at the damn bottom. Yeah, man. He's special, man. He's special. Like, I've never denied him being special. I never denied him being one of the greatest of all time. But I just, as great as he is, I still prefer Cristiano. That's okay. I know people will say anyone that knows ball knows that Messi is the greatest. What's that for you prefer?
18:18I just prefer based on style of play. I understand what Messi's doing. It's phenomenal. He's magic with the ball at his feet. but but but for me i i like the the the the the the the i i it's hard to even put in the words because people are going to argue the fact look at the resume look at the accolades
18:36Shannon Sharpe:it just it's just my preference that's all i mean can you imagine um he's jordan in his country can you imagine what he's like in this country he can't go anywhere just like Michael Jones. Well, I mean, some people, he, like he, Ronaldo, they're like probably 10 sports guys. They can't go, maybe a little more. They can't go anywhere in the world. They're that recognizable. Messi, Ronaldo, Jordan, some guys can't go anywhere. Yeah. They'll never know what it's like to be not famous. Yeah. Because they've been famous longer than they've not been famous. You say, okay, I'm going to take the first 10.
19:19Shannon Sharpe:you take the first 18 years of Jordan's life. Once he hit that shot, everybody knew who Mike Jordan was. Okay. Ronaldo, Messi. Once they burst on the international stage, so for the last 25, 20 years, they've been famous. They've been famous. LeBron James, once he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was over. It was over. He's never, Michael Jackson, once he was seven, eight years old, he was never going to be have a normal life. He was never going to be a kid. Yeah. Messi is never going to be able to go. His kids will never know what it's like not to be in the spotlight and be able to go to the park and kick the ball around with the dad, Ocho.
20:08Shannon Sharpe:A lot of kids get an opportunity to play baseball with their father or shoot at your house. You ain't going to no park. You know what's so funny? There's a clip of Messi and his wife going to Carbone. Because you got to think, now when you're in Miami, the people that live here in Miami, they think they celebrities themselves. They just be regular people. So obviously I've seen Messi go to Carbone with his wife and I've seen him, he was in Publix. He was in Publix with his wife all by himself. And obviously, he's so short, you'd look past him unless you were a soccer fan. Right. You'd look right past him.
20:44He's about 5 '6", maybe 5 '7", if that. so if you don't know you just see a short guy just short guy walking he always wears hat real low so you can't tell who it is right and it's just man dude man listen tomorrow I don't know if the Portuguese players are going to see this but I need you guys especially that midfield Bruno Bettina I need you to get Ronaldo the ball just get in the ball don't play hero ball please because I need something to argue I can't even debate I can't even argue with people on Twitter because Messi having an all world tournament so far
21:17Shannon Sharpe:You know what it is, Ocho? I think the thing is that when great players don't pretend like they don't, he's like, man, he's probably telling, bro, y 'all see what this man doing? Y 'all get this man the ball. Great wide receivers. Drive them crazy. You go against another wide receiver and that man cutting y 'all up. Man, y 'all let this man show me up in my damn house. What are y 'all doing? Oh, man, it's difficult, man. It's difficult. I'm trying to – hey, we're going to force feed old boy the ball. because we know what's on the other side. He going to get upset. So we going to double him, which I'll force.
21:53Shannon Sharpe:Man, they running smoke screen. They running jailbreak screen, Ocho. They running hitching. Everything. Nah, it sucks. This is unbelievable. Galen Mbappe scores two goals versus Iraq, four goals in two games, 16 World Cup goals in 16 career games. Crazy. That's crazy. Erland Holland scores two goals versus Senegal. He has four goals in two games in his first ever World Cup. Boy, it's good, man. If I was to compare somebody and use football terminology to give you a better example, Holland would be like Calvin Johnson. Yeah, he's huge. Six four, six five. He's got me right to say, he look like he's about six four.
22:39Hey, strong as hell you you can't you catch him on the run on the counter fast hold people off he got hold up play he he nice he nothing pretty to him he ain't gonna he ain't gonna dribble past you and then look like messy or look like him between the legs and between your legs and then take off running nah he ain't doing all that he ain't doing all that but for what he does he does it really really really goddamn with is is is is is scoring easier now ojo yeah no and that's just how good the people we the people you just named they are the best at scoring not only in the world cup they the best at scoring in the world and even at their clubs right i think holland scoring 30 30 goals in the season you know messy here you're doing the great you know the greats like mueller and
23:28Shannon Sharpe:Klinsman and Pelé and all those guys. They're like, well, damn. What were y 'all doing back there? These guys right here, they done passed, y 'all. Hey, if you think about it, right? When someone asks a question, is it scoring really that easy? It's not because it's the same culprits when it comes to the goals at the end of the season. It's the same people. Mbappe, Holland, Mbappe, Holland, Messi. Even when Messi has a 90... Hey, Chad correct me if i'm wrong what's that season where messi had was it 61 goals or was it 91 in the league season wow um um something stupid stupid like if you're playing a video if you're playing a video game you couldn't score that many goals like that huh huh you wouldn't be able to go like that if you play no i don't know what he i don't know what messi ate that season chad how many how many was that that crazy season at barcelona that that i mean messi had that crazy goal season it it was so it was something crazy 73 no it was 91 yeah every i said it right i was right yeah 91 and 91 91 um they only got 32 is it 32 games in a season and plus if they only got 32 games in a season plus a few other tournaments you know combined well how hell in 91 he what hell i mean he 38 now so how was he in 91 uh that was that that it was in 2014 2015 season he He scored 91 goals.

24:56Shannon Sharpe:Okay, so it wasn't 91 and 91. No, no, he scored 91 goals. It was 91 goals in a calendar year. Yeah. You know how hard that is? Hell yeah. You got people don't even have 91 goals in their career and he go with 91 in one season. Wow. That's great, man. Well. I don't know what else to say. FIFA do getting, look, Look, I think everybody's extremely happy because your big-time player, the people that they know, I don't know a whole lot of people, probably like myself, don't know a whole lot about soccer. We know names. And when the names show up and show out, that's what you want. It's a quarterback-driven league.
25:42Shannon Sharpe:I want the quarterbacks to do well. Well, I want my big guns. I want Messi. I want Mbappe. I want Holland. I want all those guys. I want them to play well. And they've absolutely hit it out the park. Yeah, they have. I just need my guy to hit it out the park tomorrow. Right. He scored 73 in one season, and then he tacked on 18 in a calendar year. So he had 91 goals in a calendar year. He had 73 just in the season. Hey, I need, I need, I need, I need, I need Cristiano. They, they, listen, Portugal plays. Well, he ain't about to give 73, so. No, no, no, no, no, no. Hey, but Portugal play Uzbekistan tomorrow.
26:23Yeah. That should be a statement game. I don't want to be disrespectful to Uzbekistan. Portugal should steamroll them. They should. They need to make a statement because they haven't been playing well as a team, as a whole unit. Not Cristiano, just in general.
26:39Shannon Sharpe:I ain't finna let you, but guess what Uzbekistan's thinking? What? You ain't finna get no four or five goals on us. So what they gonna do? Somebody else can score, but you not. Listen, Colombia beat them 3-1. That's okay. Hold on. Netherlands beat them 2-1. That's okay. I need, I need, I need, come on, come on, Portugal. We'll give Chris Henry 300. We ain't giving you 300 because you're going to act a fool. See, we'll give TJ, we'll let TJ get it, not you. Nah. Because TJ just going to hand the ball to the official, maybe spike the ball. You go act up. Yeah, yeah. Listen, I need to have a game.
27:20I need to be able to argue back and forth on Twitter. I need to I have no rebuttals. There's really nothing I can say getting hard and harder.
27:26Shannon Sharpe:Oh, for you to argue back and forth. It is It's getting hard and harder. I mean now which you have some ammunition I mean you can win a war but you got to have but you got to have you got to have the weapons to fight Since the tournament started I don't have nothing like zero No, not going out there old-school fight. We cruised around L.A. in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and dove into the fascinating life of actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr.
30:41Want the full story? Take a listen. Hedy, she starts dating Howard Hughes, the aviation tycoon. Do you know a lot about him? I mean, I watch The Aviator, so I know everything Leonardo DiCaprio has allowed me to know about him. But incredible innovator. Right. She says he's a, quote, very strange man. But they do get along really well. Give us examples. I know. They do get along intellectually. And in fact, she helps him design a faster plane. She takes a look at what he's designed. It's got these square wings. And she's like, that doesn't make sense. And so she finds the fastest bird and the fastest fish and sketches out a drawing of like what the two would look like as a plane.
31:21And that becomes the plane that we know today. And he calls her a genius. Check out our new episode spotlighting groundbreaking innovators like Hedy Lamarr and Billie Jean King. 32:57Shannon Sharpe:To Chicago, the Timberwolves will acquire Brooklyn's number 33 pick for Randall and number 28. The T-Wolves now have flexibility to sign Ayo Dusamu and have an available$15 million non-tax mid-level and a$5.5 million by annual exception. Minnesota will also create a$33.3 million trade exception. So in other words, Ocho, they gave this man away. Yeah. They gave, they were so, listen, Chad, do y 'all realize what they did? Julius Randle is a former all-star. Yes. They'll say, you know what?
33:43Shannon Sharpe:Here, we get y 'all Julius Randle. what y 'all got? Y 'all got some pre-wrapped tape Gatorade you remember the Gatorade Ocho used to pay it in the bag used to pour in the bag and pour the water in the stir yeah yeah and make the powder and mix it up hey um I got a question yes he wasn't that bad he wasn't that bad to just let him go like that he wasn't good when they needed him to be good and far too many times that's what because at the end of the day Ocho yes you make a king's ransom in the regular season but in the post season they needed him to show up. They needed somebody. And guess what?
34:20Shannon Sharpe:McDaniels had passed him as being the second best player. That's not an option. Right. So he made it easy for him to make that decision, huh? Yes. Man, that's messed up, boy. Man, they literally gave this man away. Hold on, let me see. The Timberwolves would acquire Brooklyn's number 33 pick for Randall and 28. so hold on they say we take number 33 we get y 'all Julius Ram and our 28th pick
34:53damn
34:57you go now watching now watch he go he went to the Bulls huh no he went to the Nets Nick Claxton goes to the ball to the Bulls okay yes let me see so we over there with the Nets who over there who over there in Brooklyn with nobody
35:09Shannon Sharpe:Michael Porter Jr. is the only one that I really that I know of I don't really know anybody else on the Nets. Chad, I mean. That's not even fair. So he done went somewhere. He's not even on the contender anymore. That's what they're telling him. Remember, they thought he was the piece to a contender. Remember when the Knicks got him? Remember when the T-Wolves got him? He is supposed to be a missing piece to a contender. When they trade you to the Nets. I don't mean in no disrespect, but it's like, okay, now i'm just collecting the check and playing ball i want to compete for a ring i want to compete for a championship too yeah you had that opportunities you had the opportunity you were at the knicks and then they moved you they thought of me they and and the mere fact that minnesota thought they would get better by trading cat versus for ju randall
36:12that's tough hey systems matter like you say all the time
36:18Shannon Sharpe:great players overcome system Kobe's gonna be Kobe in any system LeBron will be LeBron Jordan will be Jordan the great players will be great in any system right the great players can overcome a system a great player is the system instead of being that bull in the China shop more times than offer he jacking up threes He needed to be the second best player. Night in and night out, he needed to be the second best player. And we saw right before our eyes, McDaniels pass him. We saw it. DeSamo passed him. Looked better consistently than Julius Randle. Shannon came off the bench and looked better than Randle.
37:02Shannon Sharpe:I can't pay you that kind of money, Ocho. and have guys coming off the bench or playing better than you. I can't. Especially in those big moments, especially in those big games, especially in the playoffs. They gave this man away.
37:23Shannon Sharpe:At least when he was on the Knicks, they went to the playoffs, and then you go to Minnesota like, okay, look at it. I'm going to join Ant-Man. I'm going to join Rudy Gobert. you know hey we got a nice little squad we'll continue you go to the next Ocho you not going nowhere you can't even when your family asks you off camera man how y 'all looking you can't even lie
37:51Shannon Sharpe:you can't lie hey get your money how many years you got still in the contract you got one year left or two
38:09oh he picking that up
38:13Shannon Sharpe:yeah he got two years what's his player option yeah he picking that up how much is it 35.8 what if he don't pick it up what happens he become a free agent and then he hopes somebody gives somebody give them a long term deal for more than that one year? So you think it's a possibility someone take a chance on him?
38:39Shannon Sharpe:Anything possible. It's hard for me to read the NBA what they do. Let's talk about it. According to Shams, Trey Young's intend to sign a four-year, $212 million deal to stay with the Washington Wizards with a player option in year four. Remember, he turned down the$49 million player option for the 26-27 season, betting on himself to secure a longer-term deal. And today, Ocho, that paid off. According to Jake Fisher, Anthony Davis and his camp have been seeking a max extension and plausible to consider him a potential trade candidate out of Washington. You ask, man, why would trade decline a$50 million deal so I can get a four-year deal for$212 million?
39:23$212 million, yeah. I just asked that yesterday, too. That's crazy. That's crazy. That's why. It came to fruition. Now, what about Anthony Davis? Now, how is he asking or requesting anything long-term with his history and always being heard?
39:36Shannon Sharpe:Guess what? Because they don't make very many 6 '10 guys that can give you 20 and 12 and three blocks a game, shoot 50%, can anchor your defense. Right. I think they should put something in the contract, though. We'll give you... Players Association will never let you do it. Hey, we'll give you max dollars, right? And the only way you earn the max dollars that we put in the contract is that you stay healthy and play a certain amount of games each season. Player association ain't going to go for that. Now, you see kind of some of the situation that they put in Zion contract, body fat got to be a certain level, got to be under a certain weight, things like that.
40:14Now, you want this deal?
40:20Shannon Sharpe:You ain't got to sign it. But who's going to run the risk? Yeah, I put that in there. Somebody's going to give you$150 million. and they say, well, Ocho, we need you on time. Well, you're going to sign that deal. And then you take, you know what? Hey, I'm going to take it late for you a couple of times, but I'm going to get this money. You're not going to be so bullheaded like, man, I ain't signing that. That's a bad deal. Ain't nobody else got to sign that. So that, and from what they're talking about, Anthony Davis going to probably get it and become a trade candidate. Yeah, I mean, he should get it, huh?
40:53Now, he ain't. Well, he that boy. now i i even even i understand that when he playing and we on the court i understand how good he is on both ends of the court but i mean my goodness chat i mean you know am am i wrong if i was hurt all the time who they i heard the nickname street clothes who they call street clothes huh yeah you know so i mean listen i'm just i'm just saying maybe you know they the nba team can protect themselves a little bit you know throw a little language in there like listen man if you if you can't give us this amount of gain, we're going to take a little piece of that pie.
41:28Shannon Sharpe:All they have is an insurance policy like a Lord of London. If somebody suffers a career-ending injury because that money is guaranteed, they get their money back. That's basically what they have, Ocho. Yeah. But like you said, because of his – because they know he's 20-plus points, double-digit rebounds. He shoots a high percentage. He's got a mid-range. He's got to post the ball. He can shoot the three. Sometimes I think he falls in love with the three a little bit too much. Too much, yeah. He can anchor your defense. Oh, he is phenomenal. He's nice. When he plays. He nice. When he plays. But Trey, you know, it's going to be very interesting because now you hear more.
42:10Shannon Sharpe:All of a sudden, Peterson has jumped back into the mix. Everybody, he has so much upside, so much upside that you're willing to take the risk on some of the things that we saw in college. Right. now with Trey back, but I think the most part, most guys with the exception, with the exception of Cam Boozer, both guys need the ball. DeBanzo had the ball. Peterson might have, Peterson might have didn't have the ball in his hands as much as DeBanzo. Obviously, you know, Trey needs the ball. So it's going to be interesting to see how they do this. Washington has the number one pick Washington has the number one pick Utah has the number two pick That would probably be why Based on what they were able to do in college If DeBonza always had the ball in his hands I mean I would think His better destination would be Utah Where he could be on a team where he could have the ball in his hands If Peter's If Peter's already showed you Listen I could play off the ball I could play without the ball All things being equal Everybody wants to be the first pick Now being the first pick doesn't land me in my ideal spot.
43:26Shannon Sharpe:Maybe it's a situation. Remember, Chris Webber went number one overall, and they ended up trading him for Penny Hardaway. Guys like, look, you can trade me wherever. I just want that attached out of the number one overall draft pick. Trade me wherever. Right. But just give me that. Let me have that. And I think AJ DeBonzo would love to be the number one overall draft pick, and then they make a trade, them and Washington work out something where him and... But I just think, how tall is Peterson? Because that is a really small backcourt with him and Trey Young in it.
44:12Okay.
44:13Shannon Sharpe:Still small. How tall he is, huh? 6 '4". 6 '4", but you know Trey's 6 '0". We being nice.
44:28Shannon Sharpe:And look. What happened?
44:40Shannon Sharpe:Well, he going, I mean, I mean. Now I ain't going by Wikipedia because you set your own Wikipedia numbers. What did they measure at the NBA Combine? Okay, 6 '4 and a half. That's what he is. Oh, he's 6 '4. Oh, yes, because they measure you in your socks, I guess. So he's 6 '4 and a half. Because you know at the NFL Combine, they make you put your heels together and lift your toes. Because they don't want you to get no arc. Now, they say, you know what, he's probably 6 '5 because he's going to have on sneakers. So we're going to go and get him that half inch, so he's 6 '5. Number one, according to Shams, Yon is expected to be traded before the start of the NBA draft Tuesday with the Celtics and heat emerging as finalists to land the book. superstar. You don't say or not expected to include a third team in the Yonis trade according to a source and a focus solely on negotiating with the Celtics and the heat sources excuse me told Sean that if traded the two Milwaukee for Yonis Brown would remain with the Bucks.
50:18Shannon Sharpe:Ocho that ain't gonna happen. If you're a betting man Yonis ends up in Miami or does he end up in Boston? If you're a betting man I didn't tell y 'all the past six months where he was gone i don't know how long i've been saying it you know i ain't gonna tell you who my source is but again everything i say listen i might tell a joke or two but i ain't gonna lie to you i said we was going a long time ago you know y 'all laughed it off y 'all ain't believe me but i told you he's down here looking for houses boom now it comes down to it yeah listen yonis tatum and jalen brown that ain't happening we know that's not happening no he's gonna be in Miami you know we with Pat Riley got something else on this sleeve obviously when when Giannis get here he got one more move he trying to make we'll see if that comes into fruition so we can compete in the east we don't we don't want to we don't want to be decoration we want to be playing you know not in the playing but being being a seed clearly Boston have the most assets you get Tyler Hero you get Jaime Hawkins you get Kale Ware and if I'm not mistaken if I was reading it correctly you get three first round picks and you get some pick swaps now on the flip side you get Jalen Brown you get two late round draft picks two late first round draft picks I don't know the guy you can put it up here Okay, the Miami Heat would send Tyler Hero, Jaime Haquez, Kel Ware, Nicola Hobbit, pick 13, two future first-round picks.
51:54Shannon Sharpe:Boston would send Jalen Brown, Hugo Gonzalez, pick 27, and a future first-round pick. Now, the question is, do you trust your scouting department? Do you trust your drafting department? Because you got a team that can go play right now with Hero, Hawkeyes, Ware, Havik, considering what you still have there, Jalen Brown is a number one option. He's going to sell tickets. But it seems to me they want draft capital. Remember, they bought Dame Lillard out of his deal. They still owe him like 100-something million. Damn.
52:37Shannon Sharpe:So, but if you give up all that, if you the heat, Bam and Giannis ain't winning no championship. Ain't got one more trick up they sleeve, huh? I'm gonna see if it works. I sure hope so. Because this happens every time, Ocho, is that you give up all your assets. Yes, sir. And when the guy get there, the covet is bare. That's what happened. See, just imagine if the Warriors had to trade for Kevin Durant. Now you can't keep all those pieces. Yeah. Because he's a free agent and you didn't have to give up anything. Anything. Yeah. Made it easy. Made it easy.
53:23Shannon Sharpe:When they mad enough. You see the chat. They mad enough. Y 'all keep. It's always. It's always us. When Y 'all just says he could see himself playing for someone other than Milwaukee out of his own mouth. That's what he saying. I didn't say that. Joe didn't say that. You didn't say that. The media didn't say that. Giannis said he could see himself playing for someone other than the Bucs. Yeah. I'd be damn if they didn't get mad at us. The media. Y 'all keep bringing it up. Y 'all keep bringing it up. It should have gave you pause for cause when he didn't sign the extension.
54:04Shannon Sharpe:In year five, he didn't mention nothing about playing somebody else. In year eight, he didn't mention about playing somewhere else. In year 10, now all of a sudden, he mentions the possibility of playing elsewhere. Yeah. And he didn't sign the extension that would have kept him there. They think about their heart, huh? They think about their heart, not think about their mind. That's all. No, don't be mad. Ain't no messy. No, y 'all messy. Y 'all get mad at us. All we do is report. How do we have something to report on if there's nothing? Y 'all get mad every time. Ocho and I told you something was brewing in Philly.
54:42Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all got mad. How you know? You ain't in the locker room. All you doing is tabloid. Y 'all really be thinking people, I'm not saying they don't, but 98 % of the time, the sources, the sources is the head coach, the general manager, the owner, the player personnel, the scouting department. That's the source. And guess what? And a sprinkling of players in there. Yeah. Shoot. I've been getting cussed out all day on Twitter. Talk about the Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson. You know, they cussing me out. I don't know what I'm talking about. Oh, is Jerry Judy a source? I say, hey, this had nothing to do with Jerry Judy.
55:27you talk about oh we took a picture a few days ago and all of a sudden now i'm saying what i'm saying no for one jerry duty from miami right we grew up together i'm just a little bit older i mean i i would you would hope people understand that but no i'm i'm using common sense and logic the money's gonna play it's nothing there's nothing wrong with shador i love shador i've said it countless times he played well he played well last year you know had some ups and downs he He has some growing pains. Yes, but if the Sean Watson is healthy, he's going to be the starter whether you like it or not because of the money.
56:01Yep. It's common sense. If you understand the game, that's it. That's not a source. That's me having common sense and how the game goes.
56:11Shannon Sharpe:So in other words, they mad at the messengers because when Adam she have to say that y 'all don't say Adam she have to be a messy. When Sean say that y 'all don't say Sean being messy, right? When Woj used to break story after story after story after story, y 'all didn't say Woj making it up. So why Ocho and I got to be making it up? And y 'all come to the conclusion, well, Jerry, you took a picture. Why does it matter how we got our information? We telling you something you didn't know. And then you turned around and said, oh, wait, we all knew that. No, you didn't. Because you're arguing me and Ocho now.
56:48Shannon Sharpe:But y 'all knew it now. But I'm just saying, why is it Woj, why is it Jay Glazier, why is it Shams, why is it all those other people that give y 'all inside information that they got from sources, why aren't they messy? I've never heard, and I follow Schefter, I've known Schefter longer than anybody. Anybody that he is being, Schefter and I used to go to dinner. His mom and dad used to come to town. we would go to an Italian restaurant called Carmine's. Ask him.
57:26Shannon Sharpe:He got to Denver the same time I got to Denver. I've looked up on his comments. Not one time have y 'all ever said the man was messy. I look up on Deshawn's comments. Never you say he's messy. I look up on Deshawn's comments. So I just need y 'all to tell me why when we give you information from a player's standpoint and we can see things that you can't. we can understand things that you can't why is Ocho and Unk being messy just answer me that go ahead chat take off nah ain't no crash out I'm asking y 'all a simple question don't know no crash out answer the question no I don't want to relax I'm fine I've been asleep all day you see what did you want instead of answering the question crash out relax no tell me why Ocho and I are messy Adam Schefter report the same thing Adam Schefter said things were going on in the locker room when Ocho and I tried to tell you you just being messy y 'all start y 'all will never say Adam Schefter starting anything y 'all never say Sean starting anything I don't nobody listen to me because I I'm I play so much I ain't been I'm right 98 % of the time.
58:46I'm right 98 % of the time anytime I say something.
58:52Shannon Sharpe:I don't, you know what Ocho? I don't say anything because if I were to say stuff, y 'all gonna try to pinpoint who I got it from. So to keep everybody safe, I don't say nothing. I just let it play out.
59:12Shannon Sharpe:let it play out y 'all find out in time it's like when the levee bust man why didn't you tell me it's gonna flood y 'all gonna find out sooner or later
59:24Shannon Sharpe:I know a lot that ain't my job I'm gonna let it play out because all you gonna do is tell me I don't know what I'm talking about that's all you gonna do tell me I don't know what I'm talking about we've been so I was on this OJ A.J. Brown since October And I say the reason why you don't do that, I say because you'll have a game if you're not careful. And when they come to you, Ocho, and you don't make no plays, they're going to let you have it. And I be damned. The Rams game, the playoffs, Ocho, it came full circle. Yes, sir. There are a lot of things I see. Y 'all forget that a lot of these coaches, a lot of these general managers, I know them.
1:00:10you ain't get it from me okay call me what you want to but just call me correct say what you
1:00:17Shannon Sharpe:want just say i'm correct that's why is it so why is it so hard for people to give people credit especially our people y 'all get adam shepter y 'all get adam shepter credit like it's nothing poor me and ocho we just being ocho just a poor hustler trying to grow a channel Yeah, we can't get no credit. Hmm. Right. Hey, you know, he got that big that big entity behind him. You know Damn the entity. Oh Joe, we've been tell we look here. We played the game. Yes, sir We telling you what we see We telling you the interactions that's taking place having been a receiver having been a tight end having dealt with the quarterback Mm-hmm Tell you something all the years experience that we got between us.
1:01:07Shannon Sharpe:We got 50 years of playing football. Yeah. Organized football. But now we don't know what we talking about.
1:01:20Shannon Sharpe:So I'm crashing the end. Guess what? Y 'all listen to me crash out.
1:01:26Shannon Sharpe:I love it. All the day, all the day y 'all call it. Y 'all still. y 'all I just don't I say what day oh hey don't you can say something yeah this show did such a such oh man oh you said dad hey man we don't get it you ain't got it yet nope nope now you get it now you the day.
1:01:54Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, now they get it. Now, the Boston Celtics situation. A rare bull. Please. Ocho, they got mad at us. The Boston Celtics situation with JB and JT. Y 'all trying to break them up. Y 'all trying to break them up. You can't break up something that doesn't want to be broken up. Talk to the Boston Celtics.
1:02:23Shannon Sharpe:JB sees himself as a number one. Yeah. The Celtics sees him, Jason Tatum, as the number one. He was never going to be seen in the eyes that we see him now as long as Jason Tatum was there. What happened? Jason Tatum unfortunately got injured. Jalen Brown got an opportunity to show you he was a number one. Number one, yeah. Because even when JT, excuse me, when JB won Eastern Conference Finals MVP, the Larry Bird Award, when he won Finals MVP, what did everybody say? That's because everybody geared their defense to stop Jason Tatum. You still wouldn't get a man the credit. Even though he had the hardware on his mantle, you tried to make a reason or an excuse why he got it.
1:03:11Shannon Sharpe:Okay? So now, Jason Tatum is injured. he averages a career high he gets his team to the number two seed
1:03:31you know what's funny that's one of those situations is there's really nothing that Jalen Brown could have done to change not only the eyes of the people but the people in the organization that feel that was the number one That is the thing, Ocho, is how they view them in the organization. Yeah, yeah. You can't change their mind in the organization, even based on what you did when he was hurt. They still feel the same way. Or trade, there would be no trade rumors with your name in it.
1:03:59Shannon Sharpe:Thank you. You've never, tell me the time that you ever heard a trade scenario when Jason Tatum was involved. every trade scenario has always involved Jalen Brown not one scenario has ever had Jason Tatum name attached to it and you know what and I'm curious I wonder who people think is the better player out of the two now based on what Jalen Brown they still believe it's Jason Tatum see there's nothing Jalen Brown could do to change that nothing even after he averaged 28.7, even after he got you the number two seed, after you sold off all the pieces that you had, you let Holiday go, you let Al Horford go, you moved on from Christophe Brzingis.
1:04:52Shannon Sharpe:There's nothing, nothing else Jalen Brown can do to convince them that he's the number one option and he's the equivalent of Jason Tatum. Absolutely nothing.
1:05:06Shannon Sharpe:That's crazy. And I think you hear him speaking out a little more. He knows he sees the writing on the wall. Yeah, absolutely Know this all along where this was coming from. He tried to play it off Hey look, I ain't got no problem. I don't know their relationship don't particularly care. I'm here to I'm here to win games I ain't here to I ain't here to be nobody friend if I have if I if I if I Develop friends in the process of winning. I'm good with that. Oh, Joe, but if I don't the hell with you. Yeah and you know the thing is is they've already won they've already won their ring they've already gotten their trophy so that that that's set in stone now if if jaylen brown is to go somewhere i think i think they should run it back i i don't see him actually being traded i i don't know and a bad basketball is weird the way they conduct themselves especially owners see management the players got a few money when they want to leave it's time to go Copenhagen spit-free pouches are packed full of American-grown tobacco.
