In short
The show opens with debate over an NBA investigation into the Clippers’ proposed Kawhi Leonard trade with the Raptors, alleging salary-cap circumvention via a $28M “no-show” endorsement/LLC structure tied to Aspiration (and a $300M team-related Aspiration deal). Hosts discuss possible league punishment (fines and draft pick losses) and broader implications for other players in limbo. The episode also covers France’s World Cup run (Mbappé scoring twice vs Morocco; France 2-0) and then shifts to boxing.

But first, the Clippers and the Toronto Raptors trade centered on Kawhi Leonard will not be complete until the NBA investigation, where the Clippers circumvented the salary cap, is completed. The Clippers and the Raptors agreed to a trade on June 30th that would send the NBA, the all-NBA forward to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Grady Inc. A unprotected first round draft pick in 2031, 2033, and a 2027 first round pick swap and two second round picks.
3:58Shannon Sharpe:The NBA's investigation to the Clippers is focused on whether they circumvented the salary cap by funneling money to Kawhi through a$28 million endorsement deal with a green banking company aspiration, which also had$300 million a 23-year endorsement deal with the team. Team owner Steve Barmer, who invested$60 million in aspirations, has denied he had any knowledge of Kawhi's deal. The Clippers on Thursday said they did not funnel money to Kawhi Lerner's through Aspiration, and there were victims of fraud initiated by Aspiration, excuse me, co-founder Joe Sandberg. Sandberg was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
4:37Shannon Sharpe:Joe, the NBA loved the billionaires until they found out how they really do business. What do you make of this situation? Pablo Torre, he has a podcast. He was at ESPN, and he did an M-Depth deep dive. He had documentation of saying, okay, this is what they were doing. He had a$28 million endorsement deal in which he didn't have to show up. He had other perks that he didn't have to do anything, and he just received those perks. Now, it is noted, he went, him and his Uncle Dennis, approached the Toronto Raptors about a very, very similar situation. They wanted part of the team, and they wanted this, and they wanted that.
5:12Shannon Sharpe:And the upper management told him that's illegal. We can't do that. We're circumventing the salary cap, and the league found this out. Basically, long story short, they're going to punish us severely. It was reported that they brought the same thing to the Lakers. And Jeannie Buss was like, we can't do that. And lo and behold, the one team didn't sign with Toronto. He didn't sign with the Lakers. The one team that seemingly, what it looks like, allegedly, he signed with. But this is what's being reported. and they say they're not going to let this thing go through until they do their deep dive investigation.
5:49Shannon Sharpe:In order to sign the Clippers, Kawhi reportedly sought assurances that they would extend far beyond the basketball floor. According to the athletic Kawhi's advisor, Uncle Dennis requested ownership staking companies, corporate sponsorship, and no-show endorsement deals that allow Kawhi to collect millions in revenue without doing any actual work. Pablo Torre found that Kawhi and his employers divide the foolproof system to secure Kawhi an additional$28 million in funding. Additionally, Pablo Torre investigated and found the aspiration offered Kawhi an additional$20 million on top of the$28 million nest egg, meaning he was due to collect$48 million.
6:29Shannon Sharpe:The mechanism for Kawhi said resources with KL2 and Spy LLC, a company owned by Kawhi and Uncle Dennis, if I'm not mistaken. The Kawhi partner with Steve Barmer-led Aspiration, a tree planting company that went bust in March of 2025. Joe, what are you making of this?
6:50Chad Johnson:I can hold Joe my honest opinion. Hell, it probably didn't happen. I'm saying listen because you know y 'all know how billionaires move bro they yes damn fair we always go it's always gonna be a little uneven you know what I mean but I think to get Kawhi to commit yeah man this probably was under the table deal bro hey we're gonna take care you we're gonna make sure you make plenty of money off the court hey they just mess around they got caught now the NBA could do a deep dive me I know they rescinded the Chris Paul deal back he with the Hornets. They didn't let that deal go through.
7:25Shannon Sharpe:You remember what they did to Joe Smith? Yeah. When he had that deal, he signed that deal with Minnesota. And it put Minnesota in hell for the foreseeable future. It took draft picks for the next three years. They said, no, you cannot re-sign Joe Johnson. Excuse me, Joe Smith. And so he had a big-time deal on the table that, hey, we're going to go ahead and sign this thing as soon as the season over. And somebody got mad and they went to the league office and told the league office and David Stern did not play that foolishness. And he hammered him.
7:59Chad Johnson:So those are just the ones that got caught here. Imagine the ones that didn't get caught.
8:03Shannon Sharpe:Right. ISO, check your mic.
8:07Chad Johnson:Whatever.
8:10Shannon Sharpe:It sounds like it's coming from your computer.
8:12Chad Johnson:Oh, what about now? What about now?
8:16Shannon Sharpe:Say something.
8:17Chad Johnson:What's up? What's up? Yeah. Okay.
8:21Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Okay, go ahead. Go ahead.
8:23Chad Johnson:Yeah, so it don't surprise me, man. Hey, these billionaires are going to move a little different, and I'm sure this was, you know, we'll probably never know the full story or the truth, but this was probably an under-the-table deal, bro. Just keep it 100.
8:37Shannon Sharpe:Ashley, can you change your mic setting?
8:40Chad Johnson:I just did.
8:43Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, it seems to be he goes to one place, wants all this stuff, ownership stake in corporations. He wants these deals where you're going to give me X amount of dollars, but I'm not going to have to do anything for it. But even if that's the case, you still can't do that. Everything has to be basketball related. Now, he says that with the Raptors. Now he goes to the Lakers. They said no, Jeannie Buss. It's reported that Jeannie Buss said we can't do that. Two teams say no. It's seemingly not. He signs with a team. Now, what's the likelihood that all three teams said no? It seems to me two teams said no.
9:16Shannon Sharpe:One team found a way to do it. Hey, we'll do it like this here. We'll put it in the LLC. a boom boom boom you'll be a partner and if i'm not mistaken pablo was reporting that they created these companies these llc's kawaii and his uncle dennis like shortly before the deal was uh uh commiserated yeah consummate yeah excuse me well obviously uncle joe uh for us we actually we actually probably have a little little history and understanding on how billionaires work uh they become billionaires for a reason they don't do everything by the book they never actually played by the book, which is why they're able to attain the kind of wealth that they do get.
9:53When it comes to cutting corners, they know exactly what corners to cut to be able to get what they want done. This just happened to be a situation where a billionaire has gotten caught. They got caught up in what they want to do in getting the player they actually wanted. Most of the time when it comes to them, when they do business, they throw money at it. They throw money at it to fix any issue and to get what they want. It just happened to be one of many that it happened to have been caught up in it. And obviously it did go through. I'm not sure if the trade is going to go through once they do a deep dive.
10:27But how much of a dive do you need to make? You don't need scuba gear. I mean, Ray Charles can see what's going on here. So I'm not sure what the dive is for. It's not really necessary. There's really nothing to get in-depth about. It's more so common sense and logic. We look at the situation. David Stern is not the commissioner right now. So maybe Adam Silver may be a little bit more lenient, but we'll see what happens.
10:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I just think the thing is that when you're dealing with a situation like this and they have these big time lawyers, the lawyers making$2 ,500,$3 ,000 an hour. They went to all these prestigious schools. They're a big part of these big law firms and they know how to maneuver. And we see this a lot of times when they want to move money, they create these corporations so it don't tie back to them and they get to move money over here, over there. and you never know where it came from or how they came to be. But you just know. They just know how to do things like that. And that's the way if something were to happen.
11:24Shannon Sharpe:Because at the end of the day, Joe Ochoa and Joe, I need plausible deniability. And you see what he said? Yeah, I gave him$60 million, but I had no knowledge of where the money was going. See, he has plausible deniability. So that's what I need. That's what you have to create. You have to create. That happened. I absolutely gave Ocho and Joe$10 million apiece, but I didn't know what they were doing with that money now. Hey, I was scammed just as much as you guys were.
11:57Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, check your mic. Goddamn, everybody having mic problems today, huh? Hold on, can you hear me? Hey, my mic, you good? I'm good now? Your mic on Zoom? It ain't now. Hold on. You good now, Ocho? Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. You know I got this thing, I got this thing, Nip Tuck over here now. Yeah, but they're gonna do it, they're gonna - Hey Joe, can you hear me? Joe, mute. Nah, now Joe, you muted, Joe. Hey guys, I finally found somebody worse that electronics than me, and technology.
12:31Chad Johnson:Y 'all still can't hear me?
12:34Shannon Sharpe:Oh, there you go. Yeah, we got you now. How's it now?
12:46Shannon Sharpe:yeah so it's a it's a very unfortunate situation um because you know you want to make as much and plus the thing is you have to get extra money because why guys i'm in california 13 and a half percent state tax so i need i need some way the money that i'm losing i need a way to get get some of that back and what's the best way to get it back okay you give me extra so if i'm just making 130 now you give me an opportunity to make 170 okay you know what all right okay but like 24 mil in my pocket i can do a little something with that yeah but look to get said play i mean we see this all the time when you want somebody when they're coming out of college and it's google or it's apple of it's whatever the case may be alphabet bet.
13:38Shannon Sharpe:If you want to get really get one of these top-notch students, Ocho, you got to make, you got to make assurances. Okay. I'm going to pay for your apartment the first year, first year. I'm going to pay to relocate you. I'm going to give you an additional, I'm going to start you off at this, but I'm also going to give you a bonus because you're in competition. Yes. Once, once you're valuable and you, and they know other corporations want your services now you become a valuable commodity see that's how value is created boom and so quiet they knew he was valuable how do how do i make sure he doesn't go back to toronto and he doesn't sign with the team that's at the penthouse in the building that we play in they said no we've got there's no way he's going to the clippers no so it's gonna be it's gonna be it doesn't look good but sometimes things to the naked eyes you know sometimes the eyes can fool us it's not a good book they're gonna do their homework and who knows maybe they find something on jojo maybe they don't yeah we're gonna find out here and what the next i say seven to 14 days they're gonna find something you're gonna go find something What?
14:57Damn.
15:00Shannon Sharpe:So you better see what happened there. He be down there playing big game, Ocho. And he done messed the settings up.
15:08Chad Johnson:So I got one, hold on, one more time, one more time. So y 'all really can't, y 'all can't hear me? Or y 'all hear an echo or what?
15:16Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I guess in production, they hear it like you talking through your, instead of your microphone, you talking through the computer. Yeah, I can hear you.

15:26Chad Johnson:I'm saying, but I sound funny or something, Ocho? You look funny, you don't sound funny.
15:34Shannon Sharpe:You want to have them log out and then log back on? Okay. He don't know how to fix it. Hell, if he can fix it from Saturday, he can fix it right now.
15:47Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, dude, they normally talk me through it, but we ain't been having no problems. We've been Gucci. You know, they got - Hey, I like that, Joe. They normally what? They normally talk me through it, but what you got? Okay, okay, okay. Okay, you hear?
15:59Shannon Sharpe:You hear what he's saying?
16:01Chad Johnson:Yeah. Normally talk me through it. That's how they do. They talk it right all through it. Yeah. Hey, you know what I'm thinking out? Oh, Joe.
16:08Shannon Sharpe:We know what I'm thinking out. If it don't come out in the wash, it'll come out in the rinse.
16:13Chad Johnson:Hey, y 'all too damn grown to be managed like this, man. You know, boy, y 'all so managed. You hear me? Oh, Joe, I'm just saying. hey that's the wrong the one uh wrong choice of words to use talk you through it yeah that's what i guess that that's what that's what we that's what we normally do i mean but somebody
16:31Shannon Sharpe:else talking you through i mean i ain't never heard that what time say a person that runs with a lie eventually will stumble over the truth because everything come to light yes sir yes
16:43Chad Johnson:sir yeah you got to pause the whole damn conversation there though i can't even have a conversation with the nightcap crew about my microphone without y 'all talking about some manning stuff come on man hey i'm just saying it's it's your choice of wording hey joe that's all yeah that's all you just hey joe you just tell them it's all good joe that don't make you no bad brother i don't make you no bad brother hey hey don't you know i don't look at you any different
17:12Shannon Sharpe:Hey, boy, y 'all got to chill.
17:14Chad Johnson:Y 'all got to chill for real. Y 'all got to slow down. For real. I mean, you are who we are.
17:19Shannon Sharpe:At the end of the day, we are what we are. Now, whether you tell us who you are, but that's who you are. Even in your most private moments, when Joseph Johnson is home alone by himself. Yeah. Yes, sir. If there's no one else around, that's who he is. Yeah, you got to look in that mirror. You ain't got to tell Ocho and I. Me and Ocho and I can survive all we want to. You got to face the music.
17:44Chad Johnson:Hey, y 'all make yourself look guilty, man. When y 'all, when y 'all in your hand, Joe, look, look,
17:50Shannon Sharpe:see what I'm saying? You can open it. He'll fly away or you could crush him. But the bird is in your hand. Hmm.
18:00Mm-hmm. And again, don't make you no bad brother. I like that was real profound. I like that one.
18:09Shannon Sharpe:that was good i mean joe think we go but see i think the thing is ocho he think we're gonna look at him differently we won't yeah we're not gonna judge you hey we're not gonna judge you what would you judge me i mean i mean yeah i mean you being talking yourself being talked through it huh yeah yeah you know ain't i ain't listening what's your face what's
18:32Chad Johnson:y 'all pay chat yeah they think that you want and ojo too oh yeah yeah i want to tell you what they really think i'm gonna tell you what they really think chat really think um one and ojo you ojo fighting you because you see what he pulled out the other night i mean damn that that alone should make him number one hold on wait what do you mean that that ain't my stuff who stuff was that i was just bringing stuff on to show you and what you could do in your relationship i don't use it
19:02Shannon Sharpe:and plus Joe but we know you're going to win the battle we already know
19:11Chad Johnson:hey y 'all want me to be y 'all want me to be number one so bad it ain't going to happen fellas I'm sorry but
19:20Shannon Sharpe:here's the question though Joe and Ocho if they do find that the Clippers circumvented the cap in order to acquire Kawhi's services. What is the punishment? What should the punishment be? Ooh. Because he got there in 2019. So the 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26. So they basically had basically almost seven, eight years of his service.
19:50Chad Johnson:Yeah, they gonna try to, obviously, you know, they gonna try and put a big fine on him, but they gonna probably take away draft picks. They gonna try to make it tough so they'll have to suffer over the next, 45 years. For sure.
20:03Shannon Sharpe:It'll ruin him. Yeah. Now look, a fine angle, he's the wealthiest sports owner in the world. The man's worth$150 something billion. So that ain't gonna do it. You find him a million dollars, $5 million,$10 million,$20 million, that doesn't do anything to his pockets. And he write it off. The only way you can get their attention is to take draft compensation.
20:31Chad Johnson:Yep. Yep.
20:33Shannon Sharpe:That's it. Take that draft compensation. First round pick. Hell, I don't know if they got any first round picks anyway after what they traded.
20:44Chad Johnson:Yeah, they probably don't. I don't know. I ain't sure. But they're going to have to make do with what they got because they're going to damn sure try and punish them.
20:53Shannon Sharpe:Well, I don't think you have a choice because what you try to do, punishment should be swift and harsh but punishment is not about the individual or the organization that committed the act it's also about sending a message to deter others from committing said acts yeah right because you already know what happened once you find out that calling card guess what now you got about 15 people got calling cards and the funny thing about it is there's always some funny business going on especially when it comes to business with people that have that kind of wealth you're going to say always not always Ocho I hate saying always and never but the thing is and Ocho has talked about this man to get that kind of wealth you got to step on you got to step on or step over a lot of people yeah yeah i ain't saying you stepping on them joe but you gotta step over them hey it's a dirty business man it's a dirty business and most of the time when you when you were when you were a mass you know that kind of wealth i mean you don't play by the book i mean you never have anyway you know let alone so any short any shortcuts you can take any advantage you can you can you can do to help your business in any way and to continue to you know grow your money exponentially you're gonna do it you're gonna do it every issue the one thing that they do if you had that kind of money is you throw more money at it.
22:21Shannon Sharpe:That's how you fix everything. And when you have money what don't you like? Being told no. Because if you tell me no Joe, I'm going to put a number out there that you got to say yes. You can't refuse. So that's what I'll do. You say no, but I'll put a number, I'll put enough zeros where you don't have no, you don't have no, like damn. Yeah. Because maybe you got a number in your mind that like nah I'm good but he goes double what that number you had in your mind you're like huh like Q like huh yeah and so it's going to be very interesting I'm going to see I need them to go ahead and find this thing up if they find something hey do your punishment do whatever you're going to do to the Clippers if you don't find anything let this thing go on and go through because you got other players in limbo.
23:18Shannon Sharpe:Also, this is not just about Kawhi. Yeah, you got you got B.I. This in limbo is reported that they're looking to probably possibly move on, move B.I. somewhere. I don't know. Yeah, just been reading, you know, trying to try to see what's going on. You got to like, oh, man, that dude last name. I don't know. I think I'm going to have to change my name. Hey, this is man's name, man. Yeah, yeah, Joe. Yeah, it's OK.
23:46Shannon Sharpe:He say, listen, that's the family name here. Listen. I'm going to have to go Hollywood. You know, most of the people in Hollywood got different names. That ain't their real name. I'm going to have to get me a new name, but I can't. What happened? Did you see the guy? He swapped jersey with somebody. Did you see the guy he swapped jersey with? His last name was Black. Black, yeah. And the other guy's last name was It. Yeah, they're holding the Jersey Joe I can't do that Joe I can't come on Joe
24:21Chad Johnson:Hey, and they know what they be doing to Oh, so you know he's talking about It's a cat from Toronto. He was in a trade to going to the Clippers up Yeah, Grady, his name Grady you can't say the word you can say that's his name. His name Grady dick Yes, okay.
24:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, okay. Yeah But he traded, swapped jerseys with a guy, I think, from Memphis. His last name was Black.
24:48Chad Johnson:For Orlando. For Orlando, yeah. His last name was Black.
24:52Shannon Sharpe:So they got jerseys, Hank, holding up. One name Black and the other one named... Hey, they did that on purpose, man.
25:02Chad Johnson:It ain't clouded. It ain't clouded.
25:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you got... Hey, man, hey. Because most people, hey, what's up, Johnson? They call you by your last name, bro. Don't you call me by my last name? Call me Grady. Call me Grady. First of all, I hadn't heard nobody named Grady. Normally people named Grady, you got to be at least 50. When's the last time you heard somebody call Grady? Hold on, hold on. I mean, the last Grady I know is San Francisco.
25:33Chad Johnson:Nah, my dad's brother, my uncle, his name Grady. His name was Grady. How old is he? I'm 58.
25:38Shannon Sharpe:I guarantee he older than that.
25:40Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, he older than you. That's what I point.
25:42Shannon Sharpe:If you 50 or older, you got to be okay to be Grady. But ain't no 20-year-old name, no Grady. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
25:55Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I like bad.
26:00Shannon Sharpe:We close, Ash?
26:06Oh, okay.
26:08Shannon Sharpe:What's that? What's in three minutes? Shakur coming on. Oh, let me, hold on. Let me get my head gear. I'm a, I'm a beat his ass. Uh, Joe, you watch the soccer match.
26:20Chad Johnson:Yeah, man. Uh, yeah. They might as well get a world cup to the French team. Uh, you like, you like, you like France, man, what they like a damn super team out there. Well, they, they, they, they the first team to make it to the semifinals. Right? Yes. Yeah. I thought, I thought Morocco played good. I thought they played decent. What hell they goalie played. all right you know the refs the refs kept it a decent game they weren't calling out on that bs but mbappe if he stay healthy he gonna pass all all them records messi got in in the world cup well he already got like 20 goals hell if they if he got half of what they got now if they if they got 16 17 goals now he probably got about half of them in the world cup he got what he got eight, nine?
27:09Who that? Mbappe. Yeah, he's at eight now. He's one above Messi. Yeah, he's going to have every record.
27:16Shannon Sharpe:No, he tied Messi. Both of them got eight. Oh, dude, he has one more assist. Messi just scored. Messi just scored against India. Messi has eight with one assist. He has eight with two assists. Two assists. Okay, yeah, yeah. So, France defeats Morocco 2-0 to advance to the semis. Keelan Mbappe scored a studying goal after missing a first half penalty. He tied Lionel Messi for the lead for the golden boot with eight. Mbappe assisted on Dembele's goal six minutes later to help get this fifth goal of the tournament. Mbappe and Dembele have joined Ronaldo and Rivaldo, the only players that have scored more than five goals in the same national team in a single World Cup edition.
27:54Shannon Sharpe:France will face the winner of the quarterfinals between Belgium and Spain in the semifinals on Tuesday in Dallas. Bro. Hey, let me tell you something. Belgium play tomorrow Belgium play Spain tomorrow right now I want you to see the difference on how far we are as a nation when it comes to soccer and the way it should be played at the highest level especially on the biggest stage now you see how Belgium made us look when they played the USA now watch how Spain makes Belgium look watch the difference so you can see and it gives you a better idea for those who don't watch soccer understand how far we have to go watch how Spain make them look tomorrow at 4 o 'clock.
28:36I already know.
28:36Shannon Sharpe:Mbappe has three assists. He has three assists because he assisted them belly. Hey, you see
28:42Chad Johnson:the goal Mbappe made when he has to bend that thing around that Moroccan player?
28:47Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
28:48Chad Johnson:I mean, it's amazing how they do that, man. Yeah, and Joe, listen. Obviously, it's all technique, right? But also, the Moroccan player, because they're close and inside 18, you notice he didn't close out. What you call it in basketball? Close out, right? yeah yeah yeah he was scared he was scared to close out i know i'm saying because the closer you get to mbappe he'll go right by you so you got you got to keep some type of distance man he curled that thing right oh that's the difference especially for us for for the americans we don't got guys who can win one-on-ones like that bro one-on-one with him he's scoring that thing uh yeah no joe you notice every time you get the ball the first thing you do he face up whoever it is go right at them go right at them then belay could do the same thing hell most of their players do the same thing even if it's two people they'll they'll manipulate the space fake one way and go the other and just go hey we didn't have that once one time in the game when we played against belgium not one the thing is what i've noticed every team's best player they showed up
29:52Shannon Sharpe:yeah if you go back and look at look at look at spain and look at mexico you look at everybody team for the most part 90 % of the time their best player showed up you look at Belgium their best player he showed up you look at France he shows up Messi shows up Vazina I mean our best player Vazina was was off the check I mean I mean what's he at now 28 million subs from 40 to 46 thousand probably I mean followers hey listen yeah hey our best player was Pulisic and Pulisic when he plays at his club team in Italy. I see him all the time. I see him face up and take people long, Joe. I see him face up and take people long all the time.
30:37Chad Johnson:So you're saying he can create in a little small type. But what happened? Yeah, Joe. Hold on. Pulisic fast as hell. But I don't understand. He was playing so timid. He was playing scared. He lost the ball 11 times, Joe. This ain't you soccer. and you soccer you lose the ball 11 times at the world cup okay one or two mistakes okay i get it that happens 11 times yeah and all and they they knock it hey they they knock him off the ball so
31:11Shannon Sharpe:easy i'm like and then you hear him after the game so nonchalant oh my goodness what even before the game joe he took a ocho he took all this time off he wanted to rest he wanted to be you know he i I want to be, you know, ready for refresh so I can go into the World Cup. Bro, you should have kept playing. Yeah. Oh, you're talking about when he missed the Gold Cup. Yeah, he missed the Gold Cup. He missed some other things. Nah, you can't do that, man. If you take time to rest, boy, hey, I'm expecting, I ain't saying you got to be up there with Mbappe and Messi, but I need you to have at least two or three, at least three, four goals.
31:47Shannon Sharpe:No. No, he's supposed to be our one impact player. Obviously, we have other players, you know, that are good, but Pulisic is he's our star boy he's our star boy he just is I mean some people in the chat will probably say oh he's not our best player okay whatever you may say he is our poster child he is so you expect him to show up in moments when we need him most because he looked good against everybody else he looked good against Powerbribe but hold on Joe all he had was an assist if you go back and look at it Bellagun and Tillman were our best players yeah Yeah, they play well. They play well.
32:25Shannon Sharpe:Hey, man, y 'all know his levels to this, bro. Best player on paper, best player playing. Those are two different things. So maybe he was our best player on paper. Maybe he was supposed to be our guy, but he wasn't. Yeah, I think he had to be hurt. Well, they said he hurt his leg against Belgium. But what about the other games before they played Belgium that he looked like stir fry?
32:54Shannon Sharpe:okay I get it okay they say he got a micro fracture or something like that he's gonna miss a couple of weeks okay let's take him and the team at their word he's hurt he got hurt against Belgium what about the other games
33:11Shannon Sharpe:and we're gonna give him a bill of McDonald Joe and Joe he's hurt right he got hurt against Belgium but he didn't play well in any of the games Bella gun like I said Bella gun and Tillman were our best players yeah yeah well hey hey but hey but that's fool's gold but um but they had me going in first three games though about USA everybody going what in the group stage yeah they had everybody going too what the way the way they look I came on here I'm hyped I'm shocked I'm like I don't know who this is I'm watching I ain't never seen them play like this but they got they got me they got me good it was set up look at the bracket they had to come through yeah the group stage yeah damn I remember one year they had the group of death okay yeah you aren't supposed to get out of that yeah but this nah no no stop making excuses if you're hurt sit down because guess what all they see is that name on the back of the jersey if you go out there have nobody wants to hear about that you don't get credit for what he hurt okay so what so what
34:32Shannon Sharpe:you become a hero by doing something valiant while you're injured or while you're down we'll get back to that in a second we got a very special guest joining us tonight here he is comes off a dominant unanimous decision victory over tiafimo lopez in the super lightweight title five sold out madison square garden in january earned him a world championship in his fourth weight class further cemented his place among boxing pound for pound elite here he is shakur stevenson stick shakur how you doing bro you muted muted are you getting me yeah yeah yeah yeah we got you how you doing bro what up give us the good give us the good news what what transpire so uh it's reported that you're joining Zuffa Boxing explain to our people in the chat and our listeners and our viewers what what uh Zuffa what is that and and and what's your role in it now uh Zuffa is um a company that's ran by Dana White and um Nick Khan um Nick Khan does the WWE, but he's now with Zufa and Dana White is with UFC, but he's now entering boxing too.
35:42So it's an amazing company. I mean, I'm the leader of the company. I'm the next, the biggest name with the company. And now that I'm here, it's like, shit, they got the best of the best with them. So shit, it's all good now.
35:58Shannon Sharpe:What was your decision? What went in your decision? Because like you said, it is a new company and here you are you got a championship in four different weight classes like you said you are the biggest name normally are people that with big names they're like okay let me wait let me see how this thing shake out let me just let them get all the kinks out and then once i see it's flourishing i'll go over there then why were you so willing to put your name in the situation with a very very young company i mean first priority is um i love to get paid i love getting money so at the end of the day that's what a lot of people said i wouldn't be in this position.
36:32They said I was boring. They said my style is this, but now that we here, I could sit here and tell y 'all I told y 'all so. But other than that, also, I went to big fights and they got a big vision for me. Their big vision was put me in the ring with the big guys like Devin Haney, the Javante Tank Davis. That's the shit that I live for. That's the shit that I'm in boxing for and I can't wait to show my worth. and listen i'm glad you said that i'm glad you called out two names uh obviously tank davis uh devin haney but the problem is and one for me being a boxing purist and loving loving the sport loving you is one of one of my favorite fighters and being able to watch now that i know exactly what i'm watching being able to critique and analyze you round by round what is so difficult about making these fights happen why is it so difficult for for obviously we know tank is having issues but Devin Haney I see you and him sometime go back and forth on X most of the time why is it so difficult is it too many moving parts is the money not right what's taking so long for us as fans I don't think nothing is taking so long no more I think right now is the right time I think everything is in the cards of our favor and there's no excuses for why that fight can't happen next I think me and Devin should be the fight that happen next um i agreed to 144 and he said he agreed to it so um now if he do his part i'm going to do my part and let's make it happen why the catch wait though shakul why the catch wait
38:07Shannon Sharpe:why not why not uh uh 40 uh i don't know if he can go back down to 35 but why why why 44 why not 40 or 47 40 i will be bringing him down and draining him and then we would have excuses about why you feel me? At 147, he's I'm not a 47 pounder. I'm a 35 pounder naturally. I can still make 35 easily, but I'm willing to take risks. I don't give a fuck that he's going to get in the ring 20 pounds bigger. I'm going to beat him while he's 20 pounds bigger and that's going to make my win even greater. He agreed to 144. I agreed to it and now we're here. Let's do it. And matter of fact, and also, if this doesn't happen right as soon, I'm not sure how long of a layoff you would like, how many times you want to actually fight this year.
39:00If Devin Haney and his pops and his team take too long, is there any else in mind that you would love to fight before the year? Yeah, I like the fighters like the Gary Russells and the Lamont Roachs. Honestly, speaking, I'm at a point in my career that I don't need nobody. I don't need Devin Haney. I don't need Javante Tank Davis. I can make millions and millions of dollars now with Zufa boxing and fight big names like Gary Antoine Russell and Lamont Rose. I'm into the sport for this reason. Now I'm top dog now, so it feels good. I like that. So you are the A-side now. Obviously, the game is called prize fighting, and now you're in a position where you're able to be the shot caller and pick and choose who you want to fight.
39:53I tell you, I'm excited. I'm excited for you. Congratulations. I'm looking forward to whether it's Gary, whether it's Tank somewhere down the line, or Devin Haney. I hope it happened before the year is out.
40:04Chad Johnson:Hey, Shakur, what's up, bro? I see you shining over the ancient man. Yeah, yeah. Hey, take me to fight night, bro. Take me to fight night. What goes through your mind? Like the anxiety, you know, before you go out in the ring, what you're telling yourself, you know, before when you're taking that walk to the ring, what is it like? What's going through your head? Shit, I ain't going to lie. My last few fights, it felt like destiny. I ain't really had too much anxiety. I wasn't too nervous. It felt like I was meant to be where I was supposed to be. And I let destiny take care of itself. So, shit, I turned into a different role come fight night.
40:41Like, shit, I know it's either me or that guy. and you go watch my face before the fight. You see my face, go look at Tio face. You just see who was going to win and who was going to lose. It was all written right over us. Man, I'm the best in the world and I can't wait to show why I'm the best in the world. Under them bright lights, any of these guys get in front of me, I'm coming to perform.
41:06Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you this. By you joining Zuffer, does it make it more difficult? Because people are going to say now, well, their side is going to say well we want this and your side is going to say no you can't have that because we got the A fighter you're the B fighter boxing don't work this way no more man that's bullshit at the end of the day unk all of us is under one umbrella all of us is with Turkey Turkey brings all these guys to one room when they in one room we all can do business with one another so if anybody don't want to fight they scared to fight and that's the God's honest truth Okay, that's what I like to hear because these are the fights.
41:46Shannon Sharpe:And look, Ocho is our boxing aficionado, but I grew up in the 80s and I remember the Four Kings. And I remember the 70s with all the heavyweights, they fought everybody. And then you had Sugar Ray and Hearns and Duran and Iran Barkley. And they fought everybody. You guys in an era, because like you said, yourself and Tank Davis and Russell and Roach and Haney, you guys should be fighting. and there's money to be made. People want to see the best, fight the best, and then we get determined. Hey, all I know is in the 2020s, man, Tank and Shakur, boy, they got down. I've been told y 'all that I was one of the best fighters in the world.
42:26A lot of people ain't believe me. Well, now we here. Opportunity is here. And if any of these guys want to smoke with me, I'm right here. I'm not ducking shit.
42:36Shannon Sharpe:But Shakur, you saying that. Let me ask you a question. if people had if you had never saw if jordan had never played and he says i'm the best basketball player would you have believed him he had to show you i agree with you or shaq or kobe says i'm the best without showing it you're not gonna believe that we gotta see if the writing been on the wall the whole time and i showed it and y 'all just ain't i can't read and then you blind in a motherfucker you blind in a motherfucker it already been there tiafimo was was was an example i made the example out of him and these guys are going to get examples made out of them too whatever we would like to hear we like to see that fight so is it possible we could get one of those i know you mentioned it could is there something that we could get because you fought to your femo and i think january is that possible we can get another fight say like september before the years i'm fighting i i do i fight twice a year that's what i do so before the years out any of these guys if they were they ready to sign a dotted line any one of them, I'm ready right this second.
43:38And the good thing about it is what I like about what Turkey's also done, and obviously Dana White and Zulfa Boxing, is the money's so good now that there should be no reason why the fight can't happen. So we can't, it's called prize fighting for the reason, and we have people in the game now that are paying these fighters to make these fights happen that we as fans want to see. So I'm excited, you know, Brother Haney, should be no reason. There's really no reason to stall. 144 it is. Let's get it on. In the meantime, we're waiting right now anyway. Okay. You got to go pay attention to them fights.
44:18You're kind of behind right now. Go watch them fights and it'll show you everything you need to see. I'm going to teach you. I'm going to teach you. You don't know what he's looking at.
44:27Shannon Sharpe:I'm going to teach you. I think the thing is that we're saying there's something getting lost in translation. I'm not saying that you're not a great fighter, that you're not a champion. I'm not saying that. But I think people want, and you do a great job of hitting and not getting hit. But I think sometimes people want to see you put yourself in harm's way and get down. And I'm not saying, look, and that's what you have to do sometimes. The great fighters, you're going to have to fight. When you step in that ring, you're in harm's way. Nah, I disagree with that That's because you never put on the boxing gloves in your life If you put on the boxing gloves before You'll understand that when you step in that motherfucking square circle You're on harm's way And when you go watch my last fight Since you saying I don't put myself in harm's way Who was backing up, me or Tio?
45:21Who was backing up? You backed him up So I was in harm's way
45:30hey you said you said you was gonna do that too i asked the question how was it i in harm's way
45:36Shannon Sharpe:you weren't but when i think answer the question i never thought you could i didn't think you could lose the tfmo now if you back up tank you back up haney you back up those guys i'm gonna come on here and say ocho he made me he proved me to be alive i said he wouldn't you wouldn't have He would have never bet no money that I was going to beat Tiafemo the way that I beat him. Yes, I would have. The way that I beat him? No, you wouldn't. No, no, no, no. Ain't nobody bet 11-1. If you beat him bad, I was going to bet that you were going to win the fight, Shakur. I can't. I don't think. They said I was going to win.
46:11Shannon Sharpe:I don't think maybe a prize pick or polymarker or somebody will say, well, how bad is he going to beat him? Well, he going to beat him this bad. They said I was going to win. But I would have bet money that you would have won. They said I was going to win. Who ran? but if you if you win it doesn't at the end of the day if you win but for me i think for me i'm just like i've seen guys your size fight uh i mayweather coming up through the ranks and was flooring people until his hands became brittle and i watched sugar ray and i watched hat and her and i watched what i'm confused about is now it sounds like you're down playing teo like it sounds like this is a down plan like who teo is i mean teo done showed you how great he is in other fights, why wasn't he that great that night?
46:56Shannon Sharpe:I'm not saying he's not great. And if we could talk about the way that you fight, no, I'm not into hitting and being hit. If that's what you're asking me, I won't do that. I will hit and don't hit. Are you, so are you trying to be, when they talk about lightweights and super lightweights and junior welterweights, are you trying to be in that short way? I'm not comparing myself to none of these dudes. I'm trying to be the first Shakur Stevenson. you at the end of my career I don't believe you gonna say you like you gonna say why was his fight so easy why wasn't he hurt why was why all because I'm that great that's what you gonna say we're not saying that you're not great Shakur but I don't believe and this is me this is my opinion Joe has his opinion Ochoa believes a dope you hung the moon I don't believe that you're gonna get the credit you deserve without knocking people out I just don't that's why you that's why you never boxed before that's not boxing that's how i know you never boxed before you could talk about floyd maywell you could say the guys that he knocked out but in the tail end of his prom he wasn't just knocking guys out this is not true no because the hands got exactly i got hand problems too what's the what's the difference well i didn't know that my bad everybody know that that's why you ain't been doing your homework you gotta do your homework hey but hold on hold on hold on hold on hold on I mean, listen, I love boxing, Joe.
48:18I'm sure you watch it. You watch it as well. But boxing is more than just knockouts. Now, knockouts, being able to have it is really good, like being a slugger in baseball and hitting home runs. The fans love it. But most of the time, when it comes to some of the greats, that's not all boxing is. They call it the sweet science. Oh, you're just not in tune, man. You're just not in tune. You got to get in tune. Go do some homework. You ain't do your homework. You got F's on your homework, man.
48:42Shannon Sharpe:You got all F's. You got that. Damn. But you can't say just because I don't like your style that I don't know why. No, you don't. I grew up in an era where sugar rating was knocking people out. You just told me that I don't put myself in harm's way by getting in the ring. That's what you told me. That let me know that you don't do your homework. But you talk about one fight. You talk about Tia Fimo. Any fight. What about all the other fights? Any fight. Any fight. I was wondering one thing. Am I the only one that's ever said that about your fighting style? Yes or no? A lot of people that don't know boxing say that.
49:14Shannon Sharpe:No, no, no, no. Am I the only one? You can't use a public opinion for cartoons. No, no. Are you the only casual that said this? No, you are not. Are you the only casual that said this? No, you are not. Let me ask you a question. So no other fighter has said that about your fighting style, that they're not happy with your fighting style. You know what I mean? Fighters praise my fighting style? You know what I mean? Fighters wish they could fight like me. Hold on, hold on. Can I talk? Can I talk? You know how many people go home with, wait, wait, wait, Gotta go to the doctor Gotta go get their brain checked out Gotta go They wish they could do what I do They prayed like I wish I had them skills If I had them skills they would go home to their family safely People don't go to their family safely So no boxer No boxer No guy that's ever fought Has said anything that I've said about your fighting style You asking a subjective question I can't tell you I'm telling you that So if you're subjective why are you getting so upset with me We debating.
50:16We having a good debate. I've called you on for 100 times. I mean, I look at you like an unk, right? So I got respect for you. I got respect for you. But I don't got respect for you not doing your homework. I don't got respect for that. Do your homework and stop getting abs. Huh? Abs. You say you're getting abs. You got an F on all your homework, man.
50:39Shannon Sharpe:You said, okay, it's hard for me to believe all the fighters that I can remember that people put a place up high were entertaining. They put the – Have you ever watched – And I'm not saying that you got to put yourself – I'm very entertaining to some fans that enjoy the sport of boxing. I'm very entertaining. Hey, Ocho, Ocho, am I entertaining? Yeah. Hello. Hello. You got to be able to pull the non-boxing fan in, Shakur. You already got those guys. you already got the box for millions of dollars man i don't have to do nothing but go there and do my job okay appreciate you man that's that's what i love doing my job man hey you can't can we talk about something more important yeah i'm gonna joke when the oh man you are you been ducking me you heard me i'm talking about ducking me hey um you you're in vegas right you're in vegas I'm in Vegas right now I'm in Vegas right now First of all you and Joe were supposed to be out here This week because Conor McGregor Fight on Saturday And I'm going to be at the fight And I'm going to be at the fight Hey I think You should get in the ring
52:00Shannon Sharpe:Hey hey hey hey He too small You know he too small You never threw a punch in your life I know You ever gotten to a fight? Have you ever gotten to a fight? Yeah I've gotten to a fight But a street fight in a boxing match is something entirely different Shaquille Tomlin There are rules in boxing Tomlin A boxing fight lasts 36 minutes You fighting in a street fight for a minute top 37 Exactly Hold up. Hold up. This thing ain't going to distance. Then you not going to land shit on me. You ain't going to distance. Oh, you heard what he's saying? This thing is 36 minutes. Ain't no rules in street fighting.
52:48Shannon Sharpe:Ain't no rules in street fighting. I ain't got that kind of endurance, Shakur. I'm 58. I got kids over to you. Ain't no rules in street fighting. I can't go that far. I'm going to tell you now. Ain't no rules in street fighting. Hey, Shakur. It sounds like Unk say he'll woo you in a street fight. That's what it sounds like to me. I don't fight there. No chance. Hey, Shakur, Shakur, I would tell you like this. Go ahead and get turkey money. Go ahead and get turkey money. You got a promising career. That shit will end. I promise you that shit will end. I'm telling you now, I'm gonna whoop your ass.
53:19Shannon Sharpe:Ain't no way. No, MMA. I'll fold your ass up like a lawn chair. I guarantee you, bro. I'll find them knees. Them knees, you think I ain't... All right. Them knees? What them knees? How them knees feel? You won't ever know. You can't keep it on you, huh? Shakur, Shakur, you in a great spot. You just signed with Zumpfler. Don't mess your money up. You will never see that money. Keep it on you, man. Hey, I got to see this, man. We got to set it up, man. We got to set it up. Hey, Shakur, you just said you ain't got no problem making 140. If you ain't got no problem making 140, you probably walk around somewhere between 38 and 45.
54:04I'm going to tell you.
54:05Shannon Sharpe:I know. I'm not worried about you, though. I'm not. There's a hostile takeover. Big guy takeover. I'm going straight to your knees. I'm going straight to you.
