In short
Nightcap Hour 1 focuses on NFL contract and roster expectations, led by the news that Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt agreed to a three-year, $123 million extension with $108 million fully guaranteed. The hosts argue Watt’s deal confirms Pittsburgh’s belief he won’t “fall off,” and that the Steelers’ identity is now defense-first in a passing league. They also debate how owner pay delays drive inflation (citing Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb as examples) and what it means for future stars like Micah Parsons. Notable examples discussed: Watt surpassing Jalen Ramsey/Miles Garrett-type benchmarks, Cowboys docking Trayvon Diggs $500,000 for rehab compliance, and broader “guarantee suppression” logic in NFL negotiations.

3:23Shannon Sharpe:Supplies are limited, and once they're gone, they are gone. So please grab yours while supplies last. We've got Jerry Judy joining us tonight. We also have Jimmy Horn Jr. joining us tonight. But first, the news of the day. TJ Watt agrees to a three-year extension worth$123 million. He becomes the highest non-paid quarterback in NFL history. $108 million of that is fully guaranteed. The four-time All-Pro Edge rusher in 2021 Defensive Player of the Year. Tied an NFL record with 22.5 sacks. At$41 million per year, Watt deal sneaks past Miles Garrett, record-setting deal, four years at$160 million agreed upon in March.
4:08Shannon Sharpe:Watt also leaps Fogg's Jamar Chase$40.3 million deal for the highest non-paid quarterback in NFL history. Now, there are no more lingering issues. You know, Cam Hayward had his thing last year. He's in camp. T.J. was standing on business. He's in camp. They signed Aaron Rodgers in free agency. They traded for Jalen Ramsey. They signed Darius Slate in free agency. They signed DK Metcalf in free agency. Pittsburgh, out of excuses. Yeah, absolutely. What can we expect from the Steelers this year? Now, I don't know what I'm going to expect from the Steelers offensively. I don't know because I don't know what we're going to get out of Aaron Rodgers.
4:52We saw what he looked like with the Jets. Obviously, one season having an injury. Again, I always say we'll see flashes of Aaron Rodgers. offensively. D.K. Metcalf is going to have to be one of those players, him and Calvin Austin III, the type of receivers that elevate the quarterback's play. They have to elevate the quarterback's play and always be on 10 offensively. But the Pittsburgh Steelers are now defensively, on paper, that is their identity. You know, the days of Antonio Brown and Antonio Holmes and Hines Ward and Ben Roethlisberger at the helm where they throw the ball all over the place.
5:31Yeah, Le 'Veon Bell, those days are gone. Those days are gone. So their identity now in a passing league, in a past happy league era, has now switched back to their identity being their defense. And they're going to have to play like it. And they're going to have to win using their defense. They're going to have to lead them.
5:48Shannon Sharpe:I like the fact that they got T.J. Watt done. I think everybody's happy. T.J. becomes the highest played non-quarterback. The Steelers get the years they want. They didn't want to go five. They didn't want to go six years. they didn't want to be you know uh we got this guy and we on the hook he got a he got a boatload of money he got 108 million of the 123 fully guaranteed yeah yeah i hear you know what i don't even want that i don't that extra 15 i'm good ocho right you gave this man on a three-year deal 108 so you gave this man damn near eight what 80 i don't know what that is 87 88 percent of the money guaranteed fully guaranteed yeah and you know you hear in some things i don't like i hate hearing people say oh he's too old he's over the hill and i'm like i mean dude i like what do we talk about what do we talk about here we talk about tj watt because if it wasn't there he'd get paid exactly that maybe or somewhere else like stop playing because you know what you get you know what you get with the product you know he's not falling off no goddamn cliff no time soon It's not happening.
6:53He's not one of those type of players.
6:55Shannon Sharpe:They thought enough of him. They didn't trade him. If you thought he was over the hill, why didn't they trade him? Man, you know, good and well, they weren't letting that young boy go. Exactly. Come on now. So you don't get – I mean, theoretically, they could, Ocho. You don't get to say I'm old. Don't trade me, but then don't want to pay me. Right. Nah, one or the other. Either you pay me or allow me to go someplace else to get paid. I agree. He's one of those guys, the Terry Bradshaw, the John Starworth, Lance Swans, one, you know, Mel Blunt, Lambert, those guys, Joe Green. One helmet team. One helmet guy.
7:28Shannon Sharpe:One helmet team. Hines Ward. Ben Roethlisberger. He's deserving of that. He's been a phenomenal player. He's been a model citizen since he's been in Pittsburgh. I don't have a problem with this. Like you said, Ocho, he's 30. That makes it seem like the dude 35. He's 30. Wait, he only 30? 30. Man, why they got me thinking TJ? Listen, I didn't look up his age. They got me thinking he was like 33, 34, 35 or something like that. Oh, man, he good. Man, I'm glad I didn't. Because fans listen to teams, and it seems like 30. That was the 49ers. 49ers and, you know, go way back. If you look at them, they started getting off their guys at 30.
8:10Shannon Sharpe:Because they look at it like it's better to get rid of a guy a year as opposed to a year late. And if you go back and look at it, study Coach Belichick history, He always got off guys a year early. He said, I'd rather than have you rot on the vine in my vineyard. I'd rather you move on. I'd rather not have to pay that. But I think TJ Watts, he's been a double-digit sack guy basically his entire career. He's been defensive player of the year. He's been hovering around defensive player of the year, year after year after year. I think this is the right move by the Steelers. Absolutely. And like you said, now you got Jalen Ramsey back there.
8:47Shannon Sharpe:They're probably going to kick Ram to the safety position. now he can cover your tight ends he can cover he can play the slot I don't know who jumps in the slot you can't have three guys outside somebody's gonna have to play the slot either Porter Jr. Slay or Ram but uh maybe who knows maybe they have a slot corner and they leave Ram at the safety position right who knows but I like I like this move because I think T.J. Watt had earned this he didn't deserve it because they gave him this money they didn't give him this money based on what he's done they gave him this money that they still believe that he can play out of the late left.
9:18Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. And then you know what? You know, Jerry Jones is on the clock. Oh, yeah.
9:25Shannon Sharpe:My next question, how did this impact Michael Parsons? Because you waited. Now, because you remember Ocho Crosby, Max Crosby, he kicked it to 35. He pole vaulted Nick Bosa. He went to 35. Miles Garrett said, hold my beer. He goes to 40. Now TJ Watts at 41. Keep doing this, Jerry. You didn't learn your lesson with Dak. So guess what you did? You did the same thing with CD. You didn't learn your lesson with CD. You did the same thing with Micah. Now, I know you do all this talking like, oh, yeah, Micah, blah, blah, blah. Micah ain't giving you no discount. Absolutely not. Micah Parsons is going to be the highest paid, and he's going to get more than what T.J.
10:06Shannon Sharpe:Watt got fully guaranteed, and he's earned that. He didn't deserve it. He earned it. Yeah, I just have a question for you. You might know better than me. When it comes to owners and it comes to paying players, Why do they do this? Why do they hold off? I mean, what is the point in general? In general, I mean, what is it that they are doing or trying to get in order? What some type of affairs, the books, the money? I mean, I mean, what? Didn't we didn't we hear this thing that Pablo Torre about the collusion thing? We're trying to keep these salaries down. We're trying to keep this guaranteed money down.
10:41Shannon Sharpe:What do you mean? What are they doing? OK, OK, OK. All right. okay after the sean watson got that fully guaranteed contract with a lot of people thought that was going to probably be commonplace they've tried to suppress that and they will continue to try to suppress that there's only there's only one way so hopefully hopefully hopefully michael keeps keeps his foot on the gas and says nah we're gonna keep this thing north heading towards the North Star. 42 million. I'm going to need 42. And the next great defensive edge rusher, I don't know who that... Jared Verge, Jalen Carter. I'm going 43.
11:22Shannon Sharpe:And I'm going to need whatever Michael got fully guaranteed, I'm going to need that. Absolutely. I love it. I love it. Yeah. Michael seemed to... He said today that is heading in an direction that it didn't need to head. You know, and he spoke about Dak supposed to get it done and you wait till the last minute and then you have to overpay Dak. And you wait for the CD and then you probably could have got CD for a couple of million dollars cheaper. You damn sure could have got Dak for a couple of million dollars cheaper. But you didn't learn your lesson the first time with Dak because you let him go all the way to the end of the contract and he was hoping he'd give you a deal like Jerry Goff and Carson Wentz gave him.
12:05Shannon Sharpe:even though they were first and second pick in the draft they got the big signing bonus and they came to him in year three Dak Prescott said I'm at the end of my contract these guys still got two years and two franchise tags so theoretically they got four years left I got none and you want me to give them the same deal you want me to give you the same deal they gave their teams absolutely not absolutely not you'd have thought by now he'd have learned his lesson but Jerry hasn't learned. Maybe he's doing it on purpose because he likes for one the attention and the big splash he gets to make when he actually does pay the said player.
12:42Maybe he likes it this way.
12:44Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Look, I mean think about it. You're paying your quarterback$60 million. That's more than all the top quarterbacks that's been in the championship game. That's been to a Super Bowl. He's making more than Mahomes. He's making more than Lamar. He's making more than Burrow. He's making more than Josh Allen. And people are like, hold on, wait a minute. But that's what happens when you wait to the umpteenth hour to get something done. I like it.
13:24Shannon Sharpe:Michael says the Cowboys are making it more complicated than it has to be. We obviously want to get a deal done early. we want the relief off our backs, but obviously ownership always going to make, make it drag out, make it more complicated than it has to be lack of communication. I just never understand when guys come into the league, they are consistent and they perform well, why they've got such an urge. But then as they have just one good year, maybe two good years, they get right away. And now you've got TJ, why you got Max Crosby, all these other guys are getting paid and you can't want what us take.
13:57Shannon Sharpe:You can't want us to take less. because you wanted to decide to wait, what I tell you. Oh, so they're trying to play that game with him, huh? The longer you wait, and see, that's what happened with Jerry. The longer he waited, all of a sudden, $28 million wasn't the going rate for a quarterback. Now it was$32 million. Now it was$34 million. Okay, he got the$30 million, the$30 million plus deal, the$40 million deal. Now, all of a sudden, it wasn't$45 million,$46 million. It was$55 million. So now he goes to$60 million. hey because you waited you waited you hey you waited on uh on jefferson so guess what cd lamb like okay i'll take a million dollars less a year but i ain't going there less than that michael has made it a bundle clear from the very beginning my agent will my representative will be handling all negotiations we're not i'm not coming to your house we're not going out to have a drink and i'm not signing anything that's what i hired an agent for would you say i'm not coming to your house yeah i'm not coming to the house to eat no nachos and drank no beer we're not that type we're not that type of party we're not that type of party try to try to pull you in like they're your best friend boy yes yes business at the end of the day they will always remember that that's the ultimate love when you in a workplace environment the ultimate love is is is is currency you can say oh he's a hard worker i love this guy here no no no no the way you show me you love me the way you show me you appreciate me is to break me off that's it all that other stuff i don't i don't know i don't hear nothing you're saying ain't no salad salad that's it that's white noise um michael michael won his money um he's he's uh he's earned it i mean he's been defensive he's been um he was defensive rookie of the year or he's finished couple second times i think a couple of times the defensive player of the year he's always hovering around and even his off year is double digits.
15:57Shannon Sharpe:Even his off year. Even last year he had a down year. He came on. He probably had some things going on that he played through with their hopes and they're going to take care of me because they know what I got going on. They know I'm banged up. They know I got a knee or I got something going on. They're going to take care of me. This is how they do it. Thought I was a donut. Y 'all tried to glaze me. Now give me my bread. I need all that. Hey, thought I was a what? Yep, thought I was a donut. They tried to glaze this man. Hey, that's a good one. So, Micah is probably for a four-year extension. If TJ got three for 123, Miles got four for 140.
16:41Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I'm at four for 150. And I'm going to need, if TJ got 108 fully guaranteed, I'm going to need 125 woo woo well that's that good money there boy yes yes I want to hear that you know how we treat our players and all that yeah you treat your players pay me that's the only language that's the only language I speak Washington and Lincoln and Jefferson and Chase that's Grant that's what I speak I speak that's the language I speak and Mike is going into his last year yeah or no no we got two more left I think he is I think I think Mike is I think Mike is I think he's a fourth head into his fifth they pick up his option okay yeah I wonder I wonder if they'll play around I wonder if they I mean knowing Jerry ain't no telling how they gonna rock if they let him play that last one out
17:46are they good you think so Ain't no telling with them, Unc. Ain't no telling. I mean...
17:53Shannon Sharpe:Well, I mean, it is only 26. I mean, the way we value players based on what they can do, the owners don't really value them. Oh, he played on his fifth... Oof. He played on his fifth-year option. He came in in 21, 21, 22, 23, 24. He's on his fifth-year option. If they hadn't picked it up, he could have been anywhere right now. Yeah. They knew what they were doing. He going to be the highest paid? I don't know. Listen, I don't know what they're waiting on. That's the part I don't understand. I mean, and why do they do it? Why do they do it with every player? I mean, they're not the only team, but I'm just saying.
18:36Shannon Sharpe:I get why they, well, you gave Dak and CD, so obviously you couldn't pay Dak, you know, that, CD, that, and give money what he was working. But now you got those other two guys out of the way. You got them take care of. I mean, you don't have anybody else coming down the pipeline. Pretty soon you're going to have your big offensive lineman, Smith, coming down the pipeline. You're going to have to take care of him. Oh, my goodness.
19:05I don't know. You know, Jerry does things his way. He says he's the best at what he does. He's not. He says he is. and there's no one else that's fit to run that team the way he does.
19:19Shannon Sharpe:I go in my garage and I lay on the floor. I'm a Mercedes. No, I'm not. I'm a damn fool laying on my garage floor. Just because somebody say some ish, just because somebody say some ish, that don't make it true. Hey, that's a good one. Yeah, he not. You know. That's a good one.
19:46Shannon Sharpe:Cowboys docked Trayvon Diggs$500 ,000 for not rehabbing with the team enough. Diggs is believed to be the first Cowboys player to see his base salary lowered because of it. The team had an option to not enforce the clause, but chose to. Is this, Ocho, what are we supposed to, what are we making of this? Are they being petty or what are they trying to do? You bought a sofa you didn't have to assemble. A suit someone measured just for you. And now you're taking a guy's trip that actually matters. You've upgraded a few things in life. 21:42Shannon Sharpe:To honor our country on its 250th birthday, this can of Copenhagen goes out to those defending the free American soil that our tobacco has taken root in for over two centuries and counting. Here's to the calloused hands of freedom. Copenhagen, saluting American grit, proven since 1822. Warning, this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes. I wouldn't say they're being petty. It's that business we just talked about. It's that business in them understanding, listen, we pay you a certain amount. We would like you here to rehab. We think we have the best resources. And we would like to keep an eye on the rehab that you are doing to make sure you're coming along at a rate that is sufficient for us.
22:35good pace for us so you're able to contribute you know in season when it's time to actually play um i mean but listen that that's tough that's tough that's that's a that's a great area you really don't want to play with not knowing what a team might want to do to you just you know how they treat you when you're hurt now you know you know how they treat you now if they're willing to keep you around knowing how valuable you are and and what you can do once you're on the field and you are healthy and they give you the opportunity to get right, I think I would take advantage of that. But obviously Trayvon Diggs, who is a veteran, who has the same resources and the same maybe doctors and treatments and stuff, wherever he may be, and see fit in getting healthy there.
23:22But is it worth losing the money? I mean, but the kind of money they're passing out now, that$500 ,000.

23:30Shannon Sharpe:I mean, that's something you run by the team, Ocho, because remember, it's being reported. We don't know if it's true or not, that one of the issues the Bucs had with Dane is that he wanted to rehab in Portland. He wanted to be close to his kid. And I probably think we're going to talk about it, is that I think he's in negotiation to resign and go back in Portland because that's where his kids are. Did we see it? Yeah, but I'm saying I know he was talking about it, but I had some other stuff going on. But with that being said, that's something you run by the team. is it going to be required for me to be trained to rehab here or may I rehab elsewhere you run that by the team because at the end of the day they pay it they they pay in the salary yeah that's tough I mean they they pay they pay you 20 25 30 million dollars and I think you know digs at one point time was make I think he makes 20 million dollars a year I ain't counting the man pockets but I'm just saying that's something you get clearance from the team right because Like you said, Ocho, 500 ,000, you know, hey, that's a good little chunk of change.
24:30I mean, to them?
24:39Shannon Sharpe:Judy, what's up, boy? We can't see your face. We can't see. There we go. Oh, there you go. Oh, okay. Hey, with no further ado, let's welcome Jerry Judy, former number one draft pick of the Denver Broncos, a former Bolitnikoff Award winner, former national champion with the Alabama Road Tide. Yes, sir. Here he is. Jerry, you were one of the guys that attended the wide receiver workshop. Obviously, it was down in your neck of the woods, South Florida. Why was it important for you to attend this shop? You know, it's always great to be able to be around a great group of guys, guys that are at the top of their position.
25:19You know, I grew up watching Chad, So, you know, it was a very special moment for me just to be able to be out there and learn from him and all the other guys that was out there.
25:31Shannon Sharpe:NFL ranked you number 82, the 82nd best player in the NFL after the 24th season. You were not even ranked prior to that. What should Cleveland expect this year? 82? So clearly you see that in the 82? Nah, I'm trying to get on down. I'm trying to get down to the 50s. I'm trying to get to the 30s. I'm trying to get to the 20th. I'm trying to be, when they talk about the five best receivers, when they talk about the 10 best receivers, I needed them to talk about you. Yeah, for sure. You know, that's my goal. You know, I want to be at the top of my position. You know, I'm just keep grinding and stay focused and continue to work on my craft and work to be better than I was the year prior.
26:08And I'm still chasing that each and every day and every year.
26:15Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you this. I'm always, because look, when you came out in the draft, I said he's the best guy in the draft. And you were in the draft with Jefferson, and you were in the draft with CeeDee Lamb, so I'm not going to do high insight. And those guys are having phenomenal seasons. Why do you think the main reason it didn't work for you, and I think I know the reason why, but I want to hear you say it. I want to hear what you have to say. Why weren't you able to replicate in Denver what you're currently doing in Cleveland? One, I think, you know, just consistency just throughout the whole offense, you know, and just a lot of moving pieces and a lot of stuff that I had to deal with when it comes to playing football, you know, such as injuries, you know, different quarterbacks in every game, different coaches, staff, you know.
27:02So that's something that could really affect a wide receiver in his, you know. But now that I got the opportunity to really, you know, had a healthy season, you know, being able to be that number one receiver, be that number one option and be able to get put into a great position to be able to perform the way I've done. That's all the receiver could ask for, for real. Yeah, I like it. I already know the type of season you're going to have. You're going to build off what you did last year. It all comes down to being not only consistent, but when you are consistent, consistency brings confidence.
27:36And based on where you're from, you already know what happens when we're feeling confident and it's time to play football. So I'm excited for you. I'm excited for what you guys are going to do with Joe Flacco and Shador, Gabriel, whoever it is, whoever's at the helm. To me, knowing what you can do at the receiver position, you make everyone else's job around you easy. I've said that to you in person. I've said it to you before in general. So this season coming up, are there any goals that you've already set? Long term, short term, whatever it may be, numbers-wise, you don't have to say anything specific.
28:12I just want to know what goals you have this upcoming season for you individually. Honestly, one of my biggest goals for it is just having a winning season. You know, that's something that I haven't really done since entering the league. You know, never reached the playoffs. You know, that's one of my biggest goals. So having a winning season and being able to reach the playoffs, that's something I'm truly working hard towards. And just being better than I was last year, you know. I had a great season last year, finished sixth in receiving yards. and I'm still trying to trace that number one spot, and I ain't going to stop until I get there.
28:45Shannon Sharpe:I like that. Jew, you mentioned when you were in Denver, there were a lot of moving parts, a lot of quarterback. The quarterback's in and out. You had a lot of offense schemes. Now it might be a similar situation. You got Joe Flacco, who's the veteran. You got Kenny Pickett. They drafted Dylan Gabriel. They drafted Shadour Sanders. Has anybody stood out to you? is like, okay, this might be my quarterback. I might be starting with him. I mean, has anything, have you noticed anything? Has anybody stood out to you? You know, I feel like we got a great, the biggest thing that, you know, I'm thankful for just having four great quarterbacks, you know, that go out there and compete every day that, you know, that been doing their thing.
29:30Hey, come on with that. I'm telling you what it is, man. You know, we got four great quarterbacks, man. They all been doing their thing. for real. So, you know, I'm just, you know, my job is to make it easy. Whoever at the helm, you know, I'm just going to get open for him and, you know, do my thing for real. I don't got no control over that, man. Whoever the coaches choose and whoever they pick to be the quarterback, you know, I'm just, I'm just make sure, make their job easier when they throw me the ball. You know, I want to know, hold on. I'm going to let you go right now. I got to sneak this in there because I love this young boy.
30:02I love him watching him play. He's tech, man, He's a technician. What is it like going against goddamn Denzel Ward? That's what I want to know. Because that's what you know. He can play some ball, man, off. It don't matter what it is. Man, he nasty with it. You know, this is a great DB. You know, he's one of the few guys that really know how to, like, be patient without using his hands, being funny without using his hands. So, you know, that's one thing that really separates Denzel from his skill set. But, you know, a lot of guys that don't use their hand really kind of struggles. So he got great feet, you know, great awareness when the ball's in the air, you know, and he's a scrappy dude for sure.
30:43You know, he's a real ball player. Yeah, I like them.
30:48Shannon Sharpe:Look, I mean, obviously you mentioned that you dealt with some injuries. You dealt with the quarterback play was not up to par when you were in Denver. You had a lot of different schemes. And Steve Smith, Jr., who's a friend of the show, you and him had some words back and forth. Have you guys been able to work out your differences behind the scene? Honestly, no, you know, man. You know, I ain't – it is what it is, man. I ain't really too stressed about that. It's old news, you know. You know, he said things in the past, man. I said some things in the past, you know, but my goal is always to prove.
31:21I know who I am at the end of the day, you know, and I proved it last year. So I ain't really focused on none of that, man. That's old news to me, for real.
31:32Shannon Sharpe:When I watch you at Alabama, obviously, there are a bunch of talented guys. You win the Boletnikoff Award in your sophomore season. You win a national championship. I mean, I think you caught the game. What, the game-winning touchdown? Well, the game, I think you got the lead against the SEC championship against Georgia. I think, wasn't that when Jalen Hurts came in and threw you the ball and you made the diving catch in the corner of the zone? was that that was yeah 2018 i think yeah yeah yeah yeah and so i'm looking at i'm looking at you ju and i'm like man technically sound can run and something but for me sometimes i'm like damn ju you try to do too much man just shake the man and go about your business you ain't got to shake him three times i mean you already made him look bad you hey just go ahead just just the one time just just poop on him one time and go about your business do you do you do you have i mean there's a clock that got to go off.
32:28Shannon Sharpe:Whether you're running an out, you're running an end, you're running a comeback, you're running a hook, it don't matter. There's a clock. How you, when you go out there and let's say Denzel Ward, you had great competition in college because you had Pastor Tane, you had to deal with him in college and I'd be damned if he didn't come join you in Denver. So you got an opportunity to work with one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. So Jew, when you're going out there and somebody lines up across to you and you have a certain route, tell me what's going, tell our listeners and our viewers, what's going through your mind?
32:57First, you know, I just got to know the play, know where I'm at on the field, you know, first. Then once I line up, you know, I look at the safety, see where the coverage is at, you know, look at the safety. Then I look at the leverage of the DB in front of me, depending on my route. Then I just think about the technique of how I'm going to run this route, depending on if it's a slant and he outside leverages. Am I going to spray him and attack his leverage and make him think I want to go outside and get underneath? or if he's inside of me, if I'm going to squeeze it or I'm going to just quit jabbing and take it in, you know, there's a lot of different things that just go through my mind.
33:32You know, if those don't work, you know, it's reaction after that. Hey, how much freedom, June, now that you've had a great season last year, most of the time when you have officer coordinators, they call plays or they have plays at the call, they want their schemes run exactly how they're drawn up on paper. How much freedom are you allowed to do? things your way just a little bit like obviously when you have a certain route you're supposed to be plus two do they let you cheat the split a little bit just to throw the db off so he doesn't know what's coming because most of the time it's all about reading and understanding based on what you see and watching film and most of the time everybody just lines up in the same spot the only thing that throws things off is the formations are different do they give you a little freedom to change your splits and play with things a little bit now that you know the offense Yeah, I think that's one of the reasons I had success in Cleveland.
34:23Just they let me out there and let me be free. They know that I understand the game pretty well. They know how – I know how to beat leverages. I know what they want in the offense, know what they want me to get to. Right. And I feel like that would cause me to have success, you know. So Coach Stefanski and the coaching staff did a great job of just allowing me to play my game, you know, and just be able to win on every route they want me to run. They know how to run every route in the Rock Tree, You know, they know I could get open. So they allow me to do that. That's loud. That's dope.
34:54Shannon Sharpe:That's dope. There used to be one time, Jude, that Alabama was the unquestioned wide receiver U. Now you got LSU saying they laying claim to that. You got Ohio State laying claim to that. So who has the real wide receiver U? You know, I'm going to always stay biased and stay true to my teammates. Oh, I am, man. I'm going to go Bama 24-7. I ain't going to never change up. You know, it's always going to be Alabama But, no, for real though, LSU Been putting out some guys, Ohio State got some great Guys in the league, you know, and guys coming up You know, like the guy Jemire Smith You know, it's A lot of great talent out there for sure, but you know Alabama will always be on top
35:36Shannon Sharpe:What you got, Ocho? I was going to say, I mean It went Alabama And Alabama had a string on back to back They had a string on back to back Girl, you know, they came with Julio and they came with Calvin Ridley. And then they got Jew and they got Ruggs and they got Waddle and they got Devontae Smith. So they had a run. And then LSU, they came, there come Jeddah and there come Chase and there come Malik Nabors and there come Brian Thomas Jr. And Ohio State said, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What about Marvin Harrison? What about Jackson Smith and Jigba? What about Gary Wilson? What about the guy in New Orleans?
36:12Shannon Sharpe:I forget his name. What's his name? Oh, Chris Olave. Chris Olave. Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa. We got to raise our hands too now. The funny thing about it is Ohio State might take that torch back once Jeremiah Smith come out in two years. No, he got one more year. He got this one in the next year. That's in two more years. Yeah, yeah, this one in the next year. Yeah, okay, yeah. Boy, that boy there. That man, cold. Real Florida boy. That boy, cold, man. Man, he's nice. Let me ask you this. Why Alabama? I mean, you got Miami, you got Florida. I mean, you got Florida State, I mean, LSU, I mean, Ohio State.
36:54Shannon Sharpe:What made you decide to choose Alabama? One reason was, you know, I truly didn't want to stay home. You know, I've been home. Like, home is home. I just wanted to experience something different, you know. Alabama, I never expected Alabama. You know, Alabama was just a team that just like, it was just in my heart, Alabama was the right spot for me. You know, and I grew up watching Amaro Cooper. You know, I played with Calum. I forgot about Cooper. Yeah, Cooper. I grew up watching Amaro Cooper, you know, and I played with Calum Ridley, and I see all the hardworking, great things they did up there at Alabama, you know, and I felt like I could do the same thing once I get up there.
37:33So, you know, thank God I chose Alabama for real. Yeah.
37:38Shannon Sharpe:Do you guys get an opportunity to go back? Because you see, like, in basketball, you see the Duke players. They go back and they work. They go back to Duke and they work. Do Alabama, do the receivers, do y 'all get a chance to go back down to Alabama and help? Because I was talking to Ozzie Newsome, who was a great wide receiver, turned into a great tight end, went to the Hall of Fame, and now he's a Hall of Fame exec. He said their job, he said, what we tell the guys is each one teach one. So if you leave, you come back and you got to tell them, hey, this is what we expect. This is how we do things.
38:04Shannon Sharpe:This is how we continue the great play exposition. You guys do something like that in Alabama? Honestly, I haven't been back at Alabama since like my rookie year, you know. And, you know, it's different now. The whole coaching staff thing, coaching staff done changed, you know. So it's different, different coaches. I do need to go back out there, you know, and just, you know, say some things. But, you know, I never had a chance to really go back out there. I like it. Man, thank you. Go ahead. How long y 'all got before y 'all go to camp? You got about another week or two weeks. Yeah, we back on the 22nd, man.
38:44We right back to it, man. I'm ready for the grind. Oh, you got a few days. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Yeah, we right back in.
38:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, it won't be long. It won't be long. Drew, thank you, man. Thank you for joining us, man. Continued success. Glad you're healthy, man. Hey, I'm glad you got somewhere because, like I said, I was very high on you when you came out. I thought you were phenomenal. The way you could beat man coverage, the way you set routes up, you run a route with anticipation like I still got something in my back pocket in case I needed a later date and time but I'm glad wish we could have had stability at the quarterback position wish we could have had stability at the head coach position and you're doing what you're doing in Cleveland you could have done that for the Broncos but hey, I'm happy to see you doing well I'm happy to see you achieve what I always knew you had in Thank you man, I appreciate that for real Have a good season, hey tell Denzel Ward man, he don't want no smoke with me either, man.
39:40Even that 50-step, it's whatever. Yeah, I see you still got it once I seen that. You still got a little something. You know I was a DB back in my days now, so don't let me get started. Don't do it to yourself. Don't let me get started. Next year, next year, put your shoes on, man. We back out there next year. I'm going to see you. All right, bet.
40:05Shannon Sharpe:All right. Congratulations, man. Continued success and And after that season, you come back and you lead the league in receiving yards. Come back and holler us again on NICAP. For sure, we'll do. All right, appreciate it, bro. Jerry Judy made his very first Pro Bowl last year, guys. He was sixth in receiving yards, had his breakout season. He said the thing that contributed to that, he got consistent quarterback play, and he was able to do some big things because I thought he was phenomenal coming out of the University of Alabama. And so it's always great to see guys be able to transition to take what they were able to do in college and then transition and carry that over into the NFL.
40:43Shannon Sharpe:So it was glad to see him start to live up to the potential and the ability that we knew he possessed. And now he's getting an opportunity to shine. You know, the good thing about it too, you already know, even as a player, even as a player, when things aren't going well, somewhere else, just in general, obviously you were in Denver for a very long time, but you had bad guys, but you start questioning yourself when other aspects around you aren't going well. And, but once you find, once you find that rhythm and that confidence, and most of the time a change of scenery does it for you, a change of scenery does it for you.
41:15And all of a sudden you find that same consistency and success that you had in college at the next level. Once that confidence kicks in, it's lights out. It never goes backwards. It rarely goes backwards.
41:31Shannon Sharpe:yeah confidence is key when you when you play a sport when you play a sport confidence is everything because there's a competition i mean it's me against you yeah i gotta believe that i'm better than you i gotta believe i'm the baddest dude on this field even if you're not even you better think it you better walk it believe it yep it's the difference between trying to talk to your friends over the music at a bar and having dinner where you can actually hear each other. Unsigned Bengals draft pick Shamar Stewart is believed to be keeping all of his options open, Ocho, amidst all NFL contract negotiations. Texas A &M coach Mike Elko indicated that those options do not include a return to College Station, but said he's been training with the team.
44:13Shannon Sharpe:Shamar has been around. He's very comfortable in our program, really likes what we do training-wise, and he's been training, getting ready for the season this year with the Bengals. We wish him the best. Stewart is the only first-round draft pick from the 2025 draft class who has yet to sign. Hey, listen, at this point, it's confusing me, and I'm going to need a little clarification from you on what is exactly going on, because I thought I understood at first, but now I'm not understanding now to just drug out with camp for the rookies, if not mistaken, starting in two days. Today's the 17th, correct, right?
44:50Yeah. If I'm not mistaken, the Bengals report July 19th. And the veterans report on the 22nd. So I'm not sure how it's been drawn out to this point. And just give me another paraphrase on why he hasn't signed the contract.
45:07Shannon Sharpe:What they want to do, the Bengals want to put language in his contract. Okay, you get guaranteed. So basically the contract is guaranteed. So they're trying to put up a vision. if he does something at any point it can nullify all the guaranteed money he's supposed to get so if i do something in 2025 it could nullify the guaranteed money i'm supposed to get in 26 27 28 and they say no we're not going to start that president okay i see i see what you're saying so okay so you have you're trying to protect all the money for the foreseeable future now if i because if we allow you to do that then you know what comes it's a copycat lead then all the other team's going to start putting that if put that language in there what i would love what i would love to do and and if even as a player i would also agree to this well if i mess up in 2025 you're not taking nothing long term now if i mess up long term but if they put that language in this contract that's exactly what they would do that's why you won't sign it i'm saying but i would go back to them and have it a year by year thing not me doing it one time and everything uh foregoing for the future is taking as well.
46:14Shannon Sharpe:Well, it's already in there, conduct detrimental to the team. So we already know they can do that. That's common practice. But they want, but see, they're trying to get off the hook. They're like, nah, you mess up and we're going to take all the, we could potentially take all the guarantee. As much as we try to walk by faith, you know, as much as we try to do the right thing, at times we do make mistakes when we're young. at times you know we do find ourselves in trouble as much as we want to stay out as much as we want to stay out of it you know I'm sure nobody tried to purposely get themselves in trouble but you do have to protect yourself just like the Bengals are trying to protect themselves as well so I mean obviously it sucks that it's at this point it sucks that it's at a stalemate but I'm hoping I'm hoping at some point they find some type of resolution and resolve this so they can get young bull in camp so we can help make a difference for us defensively Well, we got someone joining us early tonight, Ocho.
47:14Shannon Sharpe:We got Jimmy Horn, Jr., who's a wide receiver out of the University of Colorado. Had, hey, had speed. We could see, like, when he get the ball in his hands, hey, good luck trying to get him on the ground. Jimmy, thanks for joining us, man. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. What's up, fella? Jimmy, what's up? Why were you at? I'm out here in Carolina now. Okay, okay, okay. Oh, y 'all getting ready to go to camp, what, tomorrow? No, we start back on Monday. Monday. Start back Monday, okay. Look, word on the street is like one of the most impressive young guys in camp is Jimmy Horn Jr. Why and how have you been able to have such great success?
47:54Shannon Sharpe:You were a six-round draft pick. And, you know, they took a receiver, McMillan. They took him in the first round. They have Xavier Leggett. They got, what's the guy, Ocho from Minnesota? The Vikings. Adam Thielen. Yeah. Yeah. Adam Thielen. They got Thielen. How have you been able to make a name for yourself so quick, Jimmy? Man, it's really like a mentality thing. I just come out there. I know personally that I don't really that. I just go out there. I like that. I just go out there with the confidence, you feel me? And I really just learn from the guys ahead of me, just picking up a game and just coming out there being myself.
48:35And then every day I just come to practice hard, you feel me? like it's part of the game i know that because in the program that you was in last you land for a
48:45Shannon Sharpe:couple of years coach prime he'll work up he believes in working hard but he also believes instilling confidence in his players and you around him it's hard not to be confident and it seems to me that listening to you talk you're like i'm him yeah i know they took me in the sixth round but y 'all gonna see why they should have took me higher yeah the funny thing about it for those that are in the chat that are watching if you know football if you understand the game especially the receiver position you already know jimmy horn was not a six round type of player now we talk about a round one around two based on his skill set and his ability to run routes create separation and what he can do once he got the ball in his hands but listen this is a good thing if they took you in the sixth round that mean you get to get to the bag even faster though you get to get to the bag even faster so you know don't trip i just want to know as how has the transition been What is the difference between being at Colorado and now being a Carolina Panther?
49:37I mean, what has been, uh, I want to say the most difficult thing to learn so far. Uh, really it's been that playbook, man. It's been that playbook for sure. It's like really like, yeah, the way coach prime ran the program, it was already kind of similar to like how they run it in the NFL. So it's kind of similar in that way as the schemes and stuff like being ran, but the plays the terminology is like learning a whole another language that you already know all
50:06Shannon Sharpe:that verbiage yeah too much and you know the thing and you got to be on it because they know ain't no pickup because we put we install it we install one day guess what we got a whole set of plays the next day and we got a whole set of plays the next day and we got a whole set of places so if you fall behind dead fly you said something i heard you say something earlier you say like coach prime kind of ran a lot of this how so so help us understand how has coach prime because coach prime come you know even though uh he came with a con with a pro background you look at a lot of his coaches they were pro coaches right and so how has that helped transition is ocho mentioned transition as fast as you've been able to do how is coach prime coaching style his system uh his discipline everything about it because it's a pro style because he's got in getting guys that are good enough to get to the next level he's getting them prepared for that right i say it's really like the biggest key is really like doing the little things right you know what i'm saying that's from going to class making sure your grades right you know what i'm saying showing up to practice all the time making sure your socks are certain there you know what i'm saying They're like little small things.
51:22And once you get them down pat, it may transition it easier. Okay, I get you.
51:29Shannon Sharpe:They just did Carolina drafted McMillan, number one draft pick out of University of Arizona. What's it like, Xavier Leggett? We mentioned Adam Thielen. Now, and because of the buzz that you created for yourself, you know, they're going to want to see what you got preseason. So you're going to probably get a lot of burn. Are you excited? They're like, man, I mean, it's kind of – you're like, I'm in the NFL. But you really get your NFL moment until you're going against other guys and you see them, you got your Carolina helmet on and they got their team's helmet on and you're like, man, I'm really in the NFL.
52:07Shannon Sharpe:Okay, okay. It's still football. Let me go show them what I got. Yeah, see, I ain't get that feeling yet. Like right now I'm at the mood. Like I ain't satisfied with like where I'm at. You feel me? So I just, like, I'm real excited to get out there, you know what I'm saying? Like, especially with me missing the last training camp. I'm just ready to get back out there and just showing what I can really do. You know what I'm saying? I got so much potential left in my game. I ain't the least all that yet. So that's what I'm most excited to show. Yeah, I like it. So what's the difference between an NFL wide receiver room and a collegiate receiver room?
52:45The dealt. The dealt. It's the dealt for sure. They ain't taking all them guys out there on that bus. Oh, no. The dealt. Like, you got to find a way out there. You got to find a way. Right. Matter of fact.
53:00Shannon Sharpe:But it seems like early on, Jimmy, you did an excellent job. Because after, like, the first day of camp, the most impressive rookie was Jimmy Horn Jr. And from that point on, I don't know how much of the paper you read. I don't know how much you watch you get on social media, but did you hear the buzz that you had created for yourself? Yeah, I seen it, man. Every time I'm scrolling through TikTok, I just keep seeing different clubs and stuff. But, like, you know, I try not to let that stuff get to me. You know what I'm saying? I ain't playing no real game yet. I feel like I ain't do nothing yet.
53:33But listen, dude, the way you look in practice, the way you practice, the way you practice, and what people see in practice, it's going to be the same exact thing on game day. Listen, I ain't trying to toot you on because you hear it, because I said the same thing when I seen you that got there in Colorado when you can run routes, when you already polish. The funny thing is, this is why they was raving about him when he got to Carolina, because he's already polished as a receiver. So he coming in, he coming in from Colorado, so they expect him to look a certain way, and they will guide them. Why is he popping out looking different from everybody else?
54:05I mean, that's neither here nor there. But like you said, you ain't unleashed what you want to yet. obviously you missed a previous training camp huh yeah but you you got that you're gonna be straight man you're gonna be straight I done seen it I know what it's supposed to look like and you displayed that already all we got to do now with them lights on just do what you normally do ain't it ain't no different so well you have an outstanding quarterback with the number one
54:34Shannon Sharpe:overall draft pick two years ago this would be his third year um you know things didn't go as well as he had hoped, but he got his rhythm. He got an opportunity to sit and watch. What's it been like working with Bryce Young? Man, it's been a pleasure working with Bryce. You know, like, picking Bryce's brain, Bryce's smart, man. And, like, Bryce's real smart. And, like, he know the game. He can break it down to you. And Bryce, he's real accurate, too, man. He's nice. He's real nice. Your former teammate, the World Watch, you went in the sixth round, but your teammate, Shadour, your quarterback, had a phenomenal season, had phenomenal two seasons at the University of Colorado, but you watched him slide and play the first round, and then you see the second round, and then you see the third round, and then you see the fourth round, and the fifth round.
55:20Shannon Sharpe:At any point in time when he's going through that process, did you reach out? Did you send him a text like, hey, bro, keep your head up? Anything like that? Not that I remember, but when I was watching it with my peoples and stuff, we just sitting there watching it like, dang. Dang. That's all he was saying. Dang. that's all crazy but it's all right though you know everything you have for a reason god got playing with each person well um today espn released their corner rankings voted on by coaches scouts and executives number one rated cornerback with pat sartan the second number two daryl stingley jr number three denzel ward number four trent mcduffie number five Sauce Gardner.
56:06Shannon Sharpe:Number six, Christian Gonzalez. JC. JC Horn. Jalen Johnson. Quinion Mitchell. Devon Witherspoon. Of those names, which one you decided to say, hey, come on, get this work? Oh, Lord. Yeah. Yeah. Talk that shit. What? For real. For real. Because you want them as your teammate. JC's on the list. He's number seven. So you're going to get some great work every day in practice. That's what kind of work every day, man. That's what kind of work every day. Hey, that would be fun, boy. I wish I had your schedule, pull up your schedule, see how many of these guys on the list that you're going to actually go against.
56:52Shannon Sharpe:Now, those are the 10 best. Now, just don't think just because you don't see somebody's name up there, don't make the mistake that I made. I made the mistake, you know, I underestimated someone. Right. and when I left the game I had three catches for 14 yards I said I'd never make that mistake again I said I'd never make that mistake again so yay you respect everyone you underestimate no one and you'll be just fine because if you're in this league everybody in this league can make everybody else in this league look bad absolutely Absolutely.
57:30Shannon Sharpe:What are you expecting? What are you hoping for your rookie year? What would Jimmy Horan Jr. equate to a successful rookie campaign? For my rookie year, I got it in my notes right here. I'm finna read it on my team. That's what I want to hear. Come on with it. So, like, for my own field goals, like, when I catch my first NFL pass, I want to stack from there and get a minimum of 250 yards. You know what I'm saying? But just to start off, zero drops. And then perfect the route tree. Okay. And score my first NFL test now. And make sure I'm in that depth, the rotation. And then for the return goals, lock my road in as a punt return or a kick return.
58:20one. Take at least one return to the crib and then I'm trying to be at least top five for average for return average. And no fumbles on the return. And then for like minutes I just want to be prepared for whatever come out week.
58:36Shannon Sharpe:I like that. Already got some goals down. You go against Christian Gonzalez is on your schedule. Sauce Gardner is on your schedule. Devon Witherspoon is on your schedule. so a couple of the guys that's on that list you get an opportunity to see them this year hopefully you want to do them you want to do them a real solid you know as a as a i'm here before the week before you play each one right jimmy ship them boys assign jersey you to the stadium and address it to them make sure you sign that bitch ain't no more yeah sign yeah sign it and like ahead of the game give him a little gift right okay yeah yeah you got a nice little you got a nice little thing but i like that i like you already you already got your uh thing that i didn't i didn't write no list down until i got it at camp i was like hell my number one thing would make the team let's start with that all the all these goals they tell me hey man i got my goals and now my goal is to make the team I'll write out another stuff down a little later than they die.
59:44Shannon Sharpe:That's for sure number one on my list. Make that good for sure. That's for sure. Well, Jimmy, thanks for joining us, man. Congratulations. Great, stellar college career. Getting an opportunity to go play in the NFL. Now, your journey, hey, it doesn't end going to the NFL. Your journey starts all over again. So good luck. Stay healthy. And when you get an opportunity, come back and talk to your favorite uncle, Ocho. Amen. my last thing now man let me go to get up off here before I get to cut now what you want to say hey I'm saying dude who all on here man the whole world how many people we got in the chat about 9 ,000 yeah we got about 9-10 ,000 in the chat what y 'all think is the perfect time to get you a lady in the lead no no no no no no let me ask you a question did you have her before you got to the league?
1:00:41Shannon Sharpe:Couple of. Couple of? You got to let one go. Shoot. Hey, process and elimination. Hey, no. Don't even do it. Don't even do it. Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy. Don't do it. Don't do it. Hey, you know what? We're going to get you talking to you off here. Don't do it. We're talking to you offline. I knew I... don't do it I just threw that out there to mess with y 'all listen there's always a little truth to it you know every time I feel you I know you're going with it but lock in don't do it have your fun nothing serious this come first your girl your lady is that panther and everything that come with it and everything that come with it that's it
1:01:38Shannon Sharpe:Jimmy, congratulations, man. Getting drafted, going to the Carolina Panthers. Best of luck this season. Stay healthy and come back and talk to us soon, bro. All right. Love. Appreciate it. Jimmy. Yes, sir. Jimmy Horn, Jr., Carolina Panther, former CU Buffalo. Ocho Chargers' Mike Williams retires after eight seasons. Williams, the number seven overall draft pick in 2017 by the Chargers. In eight seasons, he had 330 receptions, 5 ,100 yards, 32 touchdowns. Definitely showcased a ton of talent, but the injuries just seemed like he couldn't stay healthy for an extended period of time. Ocho, you look.
1:02:23Shannon Sharpe:I started as a receiver. You finished your career, moved to tight end.
1:02:30Shannon Sharpe:When did you know it was time to hang in? Me? Well, shit. Well, I ain't really, I ain't shit. Well, I ain't really had no choice but to hang it up, right? You know, hey, you know, they didn't. All things being equal, you would have loved to try to continue to play. I did. Obviously, I went to Canada. I went to Canada, and I wanted to finish my way. I enjoyed my time in Canada. It was eye-opening because I expected one thing, or people said one thing about the Canadian Football League, and I actually got there, and I was like, okay, y 'all lied to me. the people down here in the states y 'all lied to me because every week playing in canada whether it was ottawa whether it was canada whether it was um uh calgary or winnipeg edmonton every every week uh every week i done played in the nfl for 11 years and every week while i'm up there in canada i'm seeing dudes that belong in the nfl now y 'all told me oh i thought it was you know supposed to be easy and i'm just gonna go out there and just man she man please for them young bulls in the Canadian League the only reason they're not down here in the NFL is because of the numbers because of politics, because of certain situations that might have happened in college not getting the right opportunity, not getting the call there's really no difference and I'm saying this very respectfully but my time was different obviously when it was time to hang it up I had to go to Canada and finish one year and lead the game so I could be at peace with myself.
1:04:05Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing is, Ocho, is that you didn't really have, like, injuries. The injuries didn't wear you down. You didn't have knee, ACL, shoulder, back. You didn't have strength. I can't straighten it out. Look. Yeah, but you don't run on your hands. You ain't a monkey. But anyway, so you – I mean, you were good. But I think the thing, Mike Williams, it seemed like – I mean, you talk about talented. I mean, big physical receiver. could run, could catch, have a night. 80-20. His jump balls, 80-20 every time. With the charges? Man, just put it up. It's healthy. It's health. And, you know, it's hard, man.
1:04:47Being injured, being hurt, it wears on you emotionally.
1:04:53Shannon Sharpe:Forget the physical aspect of it. It starts to mess with you here. because you start to question yourself, man, am I ever going to be healthy? Is this the fate? Is this what I'm going to be resigned to? Like, damn. Man, I know I'm better than this. And as soon as you put a game or two or three, putting a little stress together, here comes something else pops up, Ocho. Hey, I wonder, now that you said that, and the fact that I've never had to face any type of adversity, I've faced adversity in life, you know, but never to the point where it was bodily harm, where something failed me. I had to work my way back into playing shape.
1:05:37I've never been challenged that way. So I wonder if I would have been able to do it. That's a great question. Would I have been able to do it? Because could you imagine if I had tore my Achilles? You know, thank God. Or if I tore my ACL and had to build myself back, mentally would I have been able to get back to a certain level of confidence or comfortability being able to run and stop and transition and still having that same confidence I did in my approach to the game I think it took away everything my entertainment, the entertainment I bought the value, the trash talking because I wouldn't have been the same I would have just been a shell of myself I got lucky I got lucky
1:06:24Shannon Sharpe:I don't even know I think they lost one of their receivers didn't he end up going to Palmer didn't he end up going to Buffalo who the big dude he made some plays he was making some plays I think Palmer was number 9 yeah 7 yeah I think it was number 7 he was a big dude mind me and Anquan Bowden a little bit
1:06:54Shannon Sharpe:hold on let me see here is it KJ Palmer or no and he only 30 years old damn that's it that's it he'll be 31 in October the ACL must still be bothering him maybe mentally he just he checked out mentally yeah I mean because in New York he wasn't at I remember he had a little issue with Aaron Rodgers but yeah and then you know they ended up I think he ended up getting traded to Pittsburgh or at least I think he finished his career in Pittsburgh I mean clearly his best days came with the Chargers and Justin Herbert him and Keenan Allen boy they were some monsters together boy They were nice. Big receiver, 6 '4", 220.
1:07:49Dang. Oh, it was Josh Palmer. Josh Palmer. Where's Josh Palmer at now? Where you say he went? In the end of Buffalo? Well, he was making some good plays, boy. He was nice.
1:08:03Shannon Sharpe:Hold on.
1:08:11He was number five.
1:08:13Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, that's right. Oh, he's still with the – hold on. No, yeah, he was Buffalo. He is with Buffalo. So they got a nice little squad. They got Keon Coleman, Shakir – how you say it? It's like Shakir. Yeah. Mm-hmm. They got him, and, you know, they got the two tight ends, Knox and Kincaid. Damn. We don't know if – we don't know if Cook, you know, his situation with the contract, he wants a contract. I don't know. They plan – they plan – I hate how they treat the running back position. and Cook is one of those who's in that tier one conversation where there shouldn't be any fuss or back and forth when it's time to pay him.
1:08:54Because he's a very, very, very vital, vital piece to that goddamn offense. But I guarantee you I know how they view it. We view it, but we have Josh Allen and you're replaceable. Okay, you're expendable.
1:09:11That's exactly how they're viewing because the quarterback is so goddamn good. They feel, okay, if we miss this piece, even as important as it is, we can make up for it with our quarterback play. Hold up.
1:09:26Shannon Sharpe:Didn't Mike Williams go back to the Chargers? Yeah.
1:09:42Wow. Like I said, Ocho, you know, sometimes, you know,
1:09:47Shannon Sharpe:your body break down on you and you don't want to do it no more because we had a tearing arms. He said knees, bone on bone. Couldn't do it no more. Yeah, he said, you know, I didn't want to do that no more, man. You know what they believed that he said, Ong? When he told us he couldn't even practice. He couldn't even walk. So they let him miss practice. But on game day, obviously he did whatever he needed to do just to be able to play on game day. That's crazy. Take them pain pills toward all shots, injections. Ocho, NFL players to retire this offseason. Derek Carr, Julio Jones, Patrick Peterson, Zach Martin, Frank Ragnow, Tyron Smith, Taron Armstead, Ryan Ramchick, Jason Peters, Mike Williams, C.J.
1:10:30Shannon Sharpe:Mosley, Ndamukong Su, Brandon Graham, Sam Hubbard, David Andrews, Micah Hyde, Mason Crosby, Mitch Morris, Michael Pierce Keanu Neal John Ski, Jordan Travis and Chris Connolly well Julio HOF, Pat Peterson, Martin thank Tyron Smith Jason Peterson is going to get some consideration because he's been there a long long time played at a very very high level there are about three or four Hall of Famers on this list so Joe
1:11:03Shannon Sharpe:you know Pat P and Julio were in the same draft. I think Pat P was five, Julio was six. LSU Alabama, huh? Yeah.
1:11:18But one thing about, you know, we talk about wide receiver you. Who is DBU?
1:11:27Is DBU Ohio State? LSU? Is it Alabama? Yeah. I mean the conversation when it comes to receivers they're much there are many more receivers than it is DBs coming out of the school but somebody has to be DBU you gotta be one of them
1:11:47Shannon Sharpe:who you got I don't know I mean AJ Green what pick was AJ Green for Georgia though yeah but I'm saying he and Julio was in that 2011 draft with cam and von miller okay all them was in that draft cam hayward all those guys richard sherman pat p uh uh julio jones jj watt uh cam hayward cam jordan yeah all there was a uh rock i think robert quinn was in that with robert i think robert quinn was in that draft Justin Houston Oh I remember Justin Houston was balling with the Chiefs What? Who was number one pick that year? You remember? Cam Cam was one, Von was two Wait who was two? Oh Von Miller Von Miller Hey Cam should stay He had Marcel Darius And then I think AJ Green went four To the Bengals And then Pat P and then Julio damn man hey camp should still be playing how come all other quarterbacks get to play no umpteen years cam style man that style ain't conducive for you playing no shit that style his style of play is not conducive for playing long you can play great for the period of time so but running the football shortens your life your football life so like like Like Lamar, Lamar's style of play, even though he's smart with it, knowing when to get down, he's at a smaller frame.
1:13:29Shannon Sharpe:He ain't taking a collision like Cam did. Yeah, he's smart now. Yeah, he understands. Yeah. Well, hold on. Wait a minute now. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. So if that's the case, then Josh Allen ain't going to play that long.
1:13:46Shannon Sharpe:He ain't taking shots like Cam. Go back and look at Cam in the Super Bowl. Go back and look at Cam that next year. Cam was getting head-on collisions. For real? Go back and look at the shot that Cam took when he was playing New Orleans. Go back and look at when he was showboating in the end zone and the guy put his helmet right up. I think it might have been the Falcons and he put his helmet right up under his chin. Are they trying to kill him out there, aren't they? Yeah, and rightfully so. Because you're no longer... I don't look at you as a quarterback. I look at you as a runner. You're a running back.
1:14:19Okay, you're right. You're right.
1:14:20Shannon Sharpe:You're right. Yeah. And the way I look at it, If your coach don't care that much about you by calling plays, why should I? It's his job to protect you, not mine. So I'm as hard as God will let me legally. He was that boy, though. I was just thinking about it. You said 2011, and I'm thinking, well, God damn, look at all the quarterbacks. Even if you're not a starter anymore, they still keep you around, so you can squeeze out another eight, seven easy, as a backup. Easy. Yeah, but normally I mean, how many MVPs you see hang around like that though? Joe Flacco is still playing. I played against Joe Flacco.
1:15:05I know.
1:15:08Shannon Sharpe:I ain't played football in 20 years. They don't normally let great quarterbacks hang around like that. They don't let great players hang around like that. Guys that special teams guys, those are the guys they get 10, 15 years. You're a great player because you got to realize, Ocho, they only see you as a great player. See, if you've never been great, it's cool. I ain't got no expectations from you. Oh. See, they're going to expect Cam to be that same Cam in 2015 to win the MVP. Okay, I see. Oh, that's a good one. Hey, I like, you put things into perspective. I like that.
1:15:42Shannon Sharpe:I mean, think about it. Look at them guys like, man, hey, that joke had a nice little career. They got him like 13 years up in there. put that that was smooth i like that because i'm thinking i'm thinking 13 years with not a whole lot of expectations i'm thinking about the backup quarterbacks they just talked about one that i think he just recently retired man made by made by the made by 60 million ain't really was really never a starter i can't i can't remember his name and but i'm like ain't nobody guess what nobody gonna call for him the quarterback struggle ain't nobody calling for him we won't we won't they don't want that
1:16:24Shannon Sharpe:and I do I believe Cam could have could have been a backup yeah yeah but I think the fans if Cam goes somewhere and somebody struggles everybody they want okay okay okay okay okay damn I forgot what quarterback that was made by 60 million I think he just retired they were just talking about it too Quiet confidence.
