In short
NFL preseason and quarterback evaluation (Falcons vs Broncos; Dolphins vs Commanders), plus broader NFL rules/safety debate and a college jersey-number controversy involving LSU’s No. 5. Also includes discussion of Troy Aikman facing broadcast restrictions.
Guests
No guests are clearly identified in the transcript. Hosts are Ocho (Uncle Ocho), Daniel (co-host), and Shannon (normally does introductions; he’s late).
Key claims
- Falcons offense lacked consistency; Tua Tagovailoa looked jittery and not in command in his preseason appearance.
- Broncos starters looked strong early; up 17-0 at one point; included a 99-yard pick-six and notable one-handed catch by Courtland Sutton.
- Dolphins “found” a franchise QB in Malik Willis based on his first-drive TD, but Miami needs a true “dog” receiver and better backup QB play after Marcus Mariota’s knee injury and Quinn Ewers’ rough showing.
- NFL is “watered down” due to rule changes protecting players; discussion centers on reducing head trauma and collisions.
- LSU promised Joe Burrow No. 9; LSU’s No. 5 dispute may involve regime changes and promises not binding under new leadership.
- Troy Aikman will face restrictions similar to Tom Brady’s (remote meetings; no practice attendance).
Notable examples
Mariota knee injury; Willis 4-5 for 43 yards with a TD on the first drive; Sutton one-handed catch; Broncos 99-yard pick-six; LSU No. 5/No. 9 promises; Aikman restrictions.

The Broncos beat the brakes. off the Falcons, 27-7. Two of three of five, 22 passing yards, zero touchdowns, zero interception. Court and Sutton had a great one-handed catch, and the Broncos ran a 99-yard pick, six back. Great sign of things to come. Bad sign for things for y 'all to come, Joe. What? Man, what I had to do with that? That's your team, the Dirty Birds. Come on, man. I like the Dirty Birds. Don't get me wrong, but you know my team.
7:02Shannon Sharpe:Come on, stop playing. Same thing will happen to y 'all, too. No, we ain't going. We ain't going. What'd you think, Joe? What'd you like? The tour tonight, three or five, 22 yards, not a whole lot going on. They didn't do a whole lot to begin with. But, hey, what'd you think? Joe, you kick it off, Joe. It's preseason, Uncle Ocho, and y 'all know us more about these young guys, these roster battles and player development, bro. and we trying to see if the Atlanta Falcons can get some consistency on offense. It don't matter, man, if you got all these high-powered-ass weapons, but if you ain't got nobody who can get the ball to these dudes, bro, come on, man.
7:44Shannon Sharpe:Come on, man. I'm just saying. That first drive, that first half, okay, Ocho, y 'all know the Falcons didn't score, bro. They were scoreless in the first half. I thought, oh, man, but the Broncos look great. I thought Stenum and what's his name? Sutton. Yeah. Ooh, that first drive. Oh, steady. Ooh. Them boys look good, man. They look like they got a good rapport together. So I don't know, man. You know, in preseason, especially the first game, it's always evaluating. You're trying to see what you got, who can do what. And when them lights come on and that popcorn start popping, man, who going to jump out there and do something?
8:17Shannon Sharpe:You hear me? Yes, sir. What'd you think? You know, Joe, you saw Tua come in. Not a whole lot. Not many of the Falcons did a whole lot anyway. I thought the Broncos looked really good the first half. They were outstanding. It was up 17-0 at one point. Looked really good. I thought the Broncos played really well tonight, the starters. And if you notice, Ocho, everybody playing their starters some, you know, because the last couple of years, everybody was kind of getting away from their starters playing. And it realized it was hampering them when they started the season because they have no continuity.
8:48Shannon Sharpe:You can do all the practice that you want to, but until you go out there and you play in meaningful play, and look, I understand preseason is not the regular season. But I tell you what, preseason is more valuable and scrimmages is more important than practicing against your damn self. I know that for certain. Yeah.
9:07Joe Johnson:Well, listen, tonight, obviously, I didn't like what I saw from Tua. He didn't look comfortable. He was jittery. He didn't look poised in the pocket. Obviously, it's weird because of all the hits he's taken in the past. I would think he would be a little bit more comfortable and understand. And you got to be poised to be able to make some of the throws you want to make. Outside of that, I don't want to put too much into it because it is the preseason. But the preseason is the perfect time to show the improvements and how comfortable you are in the offense that you're in. This is a new scheme, new regime, new players, new team.
9:44Joe Johnson:And if you're going to be the starting quarterback, you have to show improvements right now. You shouldn't be looking like this. And I know it's just a preseason game, but there should be some comfortability to it. when you get on the stairs and being in command of the offense, he just didn't look in command of the offense because he looked kind of nervous.
10:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. Well, I think obviously it's a new system. It's a new scheme. It's a new system. It's a new locale. I don't think in his wildest imagination when he signed that big extension on Joe, he thought in two years he'd be playing for somebody else. But that just goes to show you. And it goes to show you. They talk about what teams they got. They got a salary cap. They don't care about spending no money. If a guy ain't paying it out, see, the problem is a guy ain't paying it out, they ain't got no problem moving on.
10:29Joe Johnson:No, sir. Oh, no.
10:31Shannon Sharpe:But y 'all don't want me to move on when I say I've outperformed the contract. Give me my money. Y 'all cut this man, y 'all owe this man 40-something million dollars. We seen y 'all cut players owe them 40, 50 million dollars. Y 'all ain't got no problem with that. Pay these players their money. Players, get your money. But I like what I saw from the Broncos. And look, it ain't no secret. They went to the AFC Championship game. I really believe if they had Bo Nix, they'd go into the Super Bowl. Not saying they win, but I do believe if they had Bo Nix last year, Ocho, they'd go steady and they lost 10-7.
11:04Shannon Sharpe:Bo Nix, they winning that game. Go ahead, Ocho.
11:07Joe Johnson:Can I tell you something, too? And I don't mean to be bringing up last year, but I kind of agree with you a little bit. Now, as great as Seattle offense looked in that Super Bowl, it would have been a big difference going against that Bronco defense. It would have been a whole different ballgame. Because they compression the quarterback. I don't know what the outcome would have been. But I'm just saying they match up very well if the Broncos were to get in that game.
11:32Shannon Sharpe:If you think about it, think about the job that New England did on Sam Bradford. He didn't have no outstanding day throwing the football, Locho. Kenneth Walker III, K-9, ran the ball really, really well. But I think the Broncos' defense, I think me personally, I think the Broncos' defense was better than the Patriots' defense. If you look at it top to bottom, offensive line, linebackers and secondary. I think the Broncos' defense was better than the Patriots, but that's pie in the sky. They didn't have Bo Nix. They didn't get the opportunity to play. It would have been great to see them, but it didn't happen.
12:04Shannon Sharpe:The Commanders beat the Dolphins 20-7. Marcus Mariota injured his knee in the first quarter, non-contact, never good. Malik Willis, 4-5, 43 yards, touchdown on the very first drive. Dolphins found their franchise. Ocho, do you believe, the Guppies, do you believe they found their franchise quarterback?
12:24Joe Johnson:Hey, listen, let's be respectful. I believe they have found their franchise quarterback. Malik Willis looked good in his first drive. But what I would like the Dolphins to do is they're going to have to improve. They're going to have to improve because you get Malik Willis, you pay him the money, and you win and got him based on what you saw him do in Green Bay. And I said it before. But you have to understand the personnel. You have to understand the supporting cast that he had in Green Bay. The receivers he had. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the receivers that the Dolphins have.
12:50Joe Johnson:They need one dog. They need one dog. Obviously, we have Tutu Atwell. We have a great supporting cast of receivers, but we need a dog. We need somebody where Malik Willis can go in the center, and he can be blindfolded, and he can be guaranteed that if I go in this direction with this ball, this individual is going to be able to make a play for me nine times out of ten. You need one of those. Now, it's going to be really tough in the AFC East now. You got New England. You got a bunch of boys that can go. We got Buffalo. Got a bunch of boys that can go. You know, so it's a little different. And, I mean, the Jets, eh, eh.
13:25Joe Johnson:Leave a whole lot of right on the bat. No disrespect, but who's you telling us?
13:30Shannon Sharpe:The problem with Ochoa for the Dolphins is that you're going to have to match the Patriots' offense. You're going to have to match Buffalo's offense. We know those teams can put points on the board. Now they feel they have an even more explosive receiver in A.J. Brown with the Patriots. We don't need to even talk about what Buffalo, because we know with Josh Allen what they feel and how they think. So that should probably – defensively, yeah, I think the Patriots' defense is a little bit more formidable than Buffalo's defense. But I think Buffalo's offense is a little bit more explosive. Both teams can put pressure on your defense and force you into a situation where you feel like you've got to score and you sometimes take unnecessary risk.
14:10Shannon Sharpe:But the Patriots' defense, man, they're going to be outstanding. Malik Willis is going to have to play well, and I think he will. But I agree with you, Ochoa. at some point in time, y 'all going to have to go get that man some weapons because y 'all just don't have the firepower. You don't have the arsenal to be what you think and who you think you are. And forget the division because, yeah, you want to win your division, but you have bigger aspirations of making a deep run in the playoffs and potentially getting to the Super Bowl. I don't think you have the personnel to currently do that.
14:40Joe Johnson:The funny thing about it is I wouldn't want to forget the division. I want to focus on the division and being able to compete in the division and being able to get out of that before I even think about playing the playoffs. And obviously that would be upgrading my personnel. Now, listen, I like our receivers. I like what we've got a bunch of machine guns, but we need a.50 Cal.
14:58Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You hear me, Y 'all?
14:59Joe Johnson:Y 'all got a.50 Cal, but they ain't got but one bullet in it.
15:07Shannon Sharpe:So you better hope everybody's standing in a single-fire line. Other than that, you're going to get your slam up. Hey, I thought Malik Willis looked efficient tonight. Okay. Yeah. You know, unlimited work, no turnovers. You know, he did his thing. But when you think about it, what about the backup quarterback play for the Dolphins? Quinn Ewers. What's his name? Quinn. Oh, man. Oh, my God. It was rough, bro. It was rough. I think Miami's first-team offense showed a lot of promise early, but Washington's depth and they run game, they clearly took control of the game. Everybody's trying to evaluate the second because, look, you are quarterback injury away from being out of the playoffs.
15:54Shannon Sharpe:You can be out of the playoffs, Ocho, or you can play, and if your quarterback is only down for, say, a month or so, can he hold the ship steady and give you an opportunity to come back and pick up where you left off? or are you going to be 0-4 if he misses a month? You're going to be 1-3. And for all intents and purposes, your playoff is over. That's the thing you try to avoid against. That's why you try to have competent backups is that somebody that can hold a fork down until you saw Malik Willis, he was able to do that for Jordan Love. You've seen other quarterbacks do that for the starting quarterback.
16:27Shannon Sharpe:The quarterback goes down, the backup comes in, he holds it afloat. Miami, look, it's going to be a struggle for Miami anyway, Ocho. It's not like they got one of these top five quarterbacks. So it's our way to be a struggle based on, I think Malik Willis is going to be really good. But based on their personnel, both offensively and defensively, they don't have the personnel that can afford to miss any of their key guys, let alone at the most important position. So that's what concerns me about them. I don't think, I didn't think Quinn Ewers was really good at Texas. He had moments. I will give him that.
17:07Shannon Sharpe:He did have moments. But the inconsistency caused, you know, raised my eyebrows. Like, bro, you're just not consistent enough for my fancy.
17:20Shannon Sharpe:What you laughing at, Joe? About Quinn Eros because he was horrible today, boy. Hell, he was horrible yesterday, too, and the day before that. What the hell you mean today? Well, I'm just speaking on the day what I've seen today. That's all I can call. If you saw him the other day in practice, he would just say, ain't nothing change.

17:41Joe Johnson:I don't think people understand. I think they do understand. I think people at this point, especially those that have been watching football for a very long time, understand how important a quarterback position is. Now they understand why they command the kind of money that they do, and when you really have a really good quarterback, now you see why they make north of$200 million,$250 million,$300 million, Pat Mahomes,$500 million, you know, being able to win three Super Bowls in such a short amount of time in his career because they're hard to come by. They're hard to come by, man.
18:10Shannon Sharpe:The game has changed, Arkin Ochoa. It was never like this at first because the run game used to be a hot commodity. Now that they took the running back pretty much out of it, you know, they don't have no value for real, for real. So, hey, if you paying a guy$70 million, hey, man, you're going to have to step back and drop and throw that thing. I ain't going to hand it out and put it in your belly every damn play. But that's what happened is that when they changed the rules, the way you could attack the quarterback, now you couldn't attack him like you once could. Now you can't attack the receiver like you once could.
18:41Shannon Sharpe:So now they're playing, oh, it's basketball on grass. Yeah, absolutely, because you can't run in anybody. Damn right, that's exactly what it is, because you run it with somebody, they're going to call a foul on you. You used to be able to knock out a lot of people. You can't knock out a lot of people. You can't intimidate anybody no more. Football was built on intimidation. I used to be able to run that shot across if you want to. Watch what I do to you. Yeah.
19:04Joe Johnson:Hey, and as a matter of fact, if you don't catch it, Watch what I do to you. Just get by there. I'm going to hit you anyway. Because you should have caught it.
19:10Shannon Sharpe:So I'm hitting you because you didn't catch it. Yeah. And I'm going to paint this picture in your mind that if you would have caught it, that's what you would have got. Quarterback, you would have got the same thing. Hit the quarterback in his head. You hit him in his knee. You hit him in his stomach. Do whatever. Now you got basically the size of his number. That's where you can hit the quarterback. And then, Ocho, I got to land on my knees. I got to damn near hurt myself to keep from hurting, laying it on the quarterback. Thanks.
19:44Joe Johnson:They got it rough, man. They got it rough. I hate saying it. Be honest. I mean, I'm not sure if you're allowed to tell the truth or not. Being a Hall of Fame, you have to be careful with some of the things that you do say, especially when talking about the game and its integrity, obviously protecting the shield. Do you like today's game or do you feel it's watered down a little bit as opposed to what we play?
20:03Shannon Sharpe:It is, Ocho, but I understand why. They're not trying to have another billion-plus-dollar settlement. So they're trying to clean it up. They know more now. They know about the head trauma that comes along with it. They're trying to take the head out of the ballgame. They're trying to make the game as safe as they possibly can. You're trying to make an inherently dangerous game safe. I don't know how you make riding a bull safe. because you're asking a 130, 140-pound man to get on the back of an animal that weighs damn near a ton and they're asking you to stay on his back for eight seconds as you drive spurs into his abdomen.
20:40Shannon Sharpe:How do you make – I don't care what kind of harness you got. I don't care what kind of face cage you got. That's 1 ,000 pounds. That's a lot of force. Football, you got big men running into bigger men at a higher rate of speed. Guys are bigger, faster, stronger now. The human body wasn't made to do that.
21:04Joe Johnson:And the funny thing about it, think about this too, as players have evolved, as technology has evolved, and players have gotten bigger, faster, and stronger, the dimensions of the field haven't changed at all. No, hell no. The dimensions have stayed the same. So, I mean, I respect the NFL, what they're trying to do, and making the game safer. her but i mean you might want to condense it though joe because do i want to make the field bigger and let them generate even more speed i don't want that collision yeah but miami y 'all got some work to do you bought a sofa you didn't have to assemble a suit someone measured just for you and now you're taking a guy's trip that actually matters you've upgraded a few things in life so why are you still running with rough nicotine pouches On Plus Nicotine Pouches with Nikko Silk Mesh.

23:09Shannon Sharpe:Ice Cube's Big 3 season has come down to this. The Big 3 championship is coming to Charlotte. Who will be crowned the Big 3 Season 9 champion? Plus the Big 3 All-Star Game. The biggest names in the game. All on one court, one more time. Two games of the most physical, competitive, and nonstop three-on-three action. The game played the way you love. Watch live Saturday on CBS at 1 p.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Pacific. And catch replays Monday on BET. Presented by iHeart. A-yay-yay! To honor our country on its 250th birthday, This can of Copenhagen goes out to those defending the free American soil. But our tobacco has taken root in for over two centuries and counting.
23:55Here's to the calloused hands of freedom. Copenhagen, saluting American grit, proven since 1822. Warning, this product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes. 16 years ago, I started working as a CNA in the hospital. I loved it. On the day I decided to enroll in the nursing program at Rasmussen University, it was afternoon, my 35th birthday. I was hanging out with a friend, and they had just questioned me what I was going to do with this next chapter of my life. I immediately said, I want to go to nursing school. So I actually had contact information from an advisor at Rasmussen, contacted her, and actually ended up starting like three weeks later.

24:40Shannon Sharpe:The Bucks beat the Jazz 24-16. Bailey Zappi threw back-to-back two picks two back-to-back picks, excuse me and rookie Clay Klubnik from Clemson, 507 56 yards over two drives God damn Bailey and remember they thought Coach Belichick thought Bailey Zappi was better than Matt Jones, remember Ocho? They bench-macked zone Oh yeah, yeah Yeah.
25:13Joe Johnson:Well, listen, Mack wasn't playing well at the time. So, obviously, you have no choice but to go who you got.
25:17Shannon Sharpe:But you got to realize what you took away from him. Remember, you took Josh. Remember, he ended up going to the Raiders. Now, remember now, he ended up taking you to the playoffs. He ended up taking you to the playoffs. He made the Pro Bowl his rookie season with Josh McDaniels in his ear. Now you come back and say, you know what? I think Matt Patricia and Joe judge should be the office coordinator two guys that have never called plays on the office inside before in their lives
25:46Joe Johnson:I think if I'm not mistaken, I know Patricia guy he's Joe judge Joe judge was a special teams guy Okay Yeah, there's a problem
25:58Shannon Sharpe:They got no headset. So he talking to people on the side. Hey, hey, so watch the old side Come up. Hey, come up get back
26:10Shannon Sharpe:what you think Ojo what the books gonna do Ojo
26:16Joe Johnson:I know one thing this might be a good thing the fact that they didn't that they didn't pay Baker Mayfield they didn't pay Baker Mayfield so he already he's already been playing with a chip on the shoulder as it is bounce listen Cleveland Carolina Rams Los Angeles not right up now with the Bucs, playing his butt off, and you mean to tell me I'm not deserving of a new deal, paying me within let's say, maybe not the top five, but within the top eight players or quarterbacks in the NFL? That's how you feel about me? So how you gonna respond, Ocho? How you gonna respond? Boy, listen. Boy, Joe, you took the words right out of my mouth.
26:54Joe Johnson:And he's gonna respond like a... You already know. I don't want to say it. You already know how you gonna respond. He's already fighty as it is. He's already fighty. to swim.
27:06Shannon Sharpe:Those are the only two. He got two choices, Ocho. If I throw your ass in the water, what you gonna do? You either gonna sink or you gonna swim. Those are the only two choices.
27:18Shannon Sharpe:Okay. He gonna swim. We gonna see.
27:25Shannon Sharpe:I hope so. I hope so. It's a... Look. I think the thing is that At some point, to a certain degree, you have to allow a guy to be who he is, Joe. Baker Mayfield's personality is what you see. Cleveland's like, we want a grown-up. Well, he was a grown-up. Everybody ain't going to be Peyton Manning. Y 'all need to stop thinking everybody's going to be damn Peyton Manning and everybody's going to be Tom Brady. And see, Drew Reed, if y 'all stop that, you'll be fine. Sometimes you got to let a guy be himself. as long as he's not disruptive.
28:05Joe Johnson:Let him be.
28:06Shannon Sharpe:If he wants to celebrate, if he's an emotional guy and gets the guys going, you might not understand it. But like the guy in Kanye said, I don't know what it would be, but it's exciting. Yeah. It's exciting. He's a winner. He's won everywhere he's been for the most part, and guys rally around him. And you just got to stop thinking everybody's going to be Peyton Manning. Yeah, you want your guys to be buttoned up. Hell, I want my quarterback to win five MVPs and have me in the playoffs every year with a chance to win the Super Bowl. I like my guy to win seven Super Bowls and win the division every year with a chance to win the Super Bowl.
28:43Shannon Sharpe:I would love that. But that's what's unrealistic. Ain't nobody ever won seven Super Bowls before. Ain't nobody ever won five MVPs before. So the likelihood of you going to get it so soon after it just happened? so you think oh yeah yeah hey guess what we got the next Peyton Manning no you don't no no no stop stop oh no he don't remind you of no Tom Brady Tom Brady didn't remind you of Tom Brady if they thought Tom Brady was gonna be this old show then he took him with the first pick in the draft absolutely and not Tim Cowell or Courtney Brown or whoever they took in 2000 Tom came out in 2000, so.
29:28Tim Couch, because I think Courtney Brown
29:31Shannon Sharpe:went to number one in 99. Well, vice versa, one of them, because Cleveland had back-to-back number one picks. But anyway, yeah. Hey, man, it's hard to find great quarterback play in the NFL. It's only a few of them. I can hold your hand full of them. I'm talking about really, really good quarterback. Yeah. I'm talking about teams who really feel like they really have a real chance in winning the Super Bowl. It's only a few, bro. I'm talking about every year.
29:55Joe Johnson:Yeah, every year. It might be eight, Joe. It might be eight. There's 32 teams. Quarter of 25%. Yeah, and it's always a dark horse. There's going to be a team come out of nowhere that surprised us. Last year, the team, it really wasn't a surprise, but what Carolina was able to do and what Chicago was able to do last year that I said before preseason even started. Carolina going to keep going. What do you call it with a dark horse?
30:18Shannon Sharpe:Seattle was a dark horse, Ocho. That's the team that came out of nowhere and ended up winning. Ain't nobody know Sam Darnold was going to do that.
30:28Joe Johnson:Why not? Why would you not think he was going to do that when he was going to a better team as opposed to when he was in Minnesota?
30:33Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, he went 14-3. But the thing was, what do we see at the end? We see the last two of these games. And then that playoff game, how did he look? You're like, oh, damn. Somebody hold up a mirror, and he had a Jets jersey on. And he's like, damn. hey but i think i think it helps sam donna too the fact that he had a hell of a run game too yes you know what i mean and when you got them weapons on the outside like he got man please
31:03Joe Johnson:that boy lights out boy jsm was crazy it'll be crazy against you too and then and they added rashid shaheed and you got cooper cup and you got kenny man they they were loaded So it makes his job.
31:19Shannon Sharpe:Yes, and he had a defense that was suffocating, that gave him short fields, that he knew if he didn't turn the ball over, the likelihood of them scoring enough points to beat us isn't very likely. And that's a great feeling to have. Now, they allow him to throw the football because he has outstanding, like you guys mentioned, he has outstanding wide receivers outside the numbers. but it's a great luxury to have to know that you know what if we score 17 and we don't turn it over the likelihood of us losing this game ain't very ain't very good man ain't happy you know who else is like that your broncos when oh oh you talking about you talking i said i don't know about the bronco you talking about but hell because we average 30.
32:07Shannon Sharpe:i don't know i don't know what he talking about joe you have me okay yeah i know i know but i'm just saying you guys have a defense oh yeah for sure yeah yeah yeah yeah 17 we good we'll take care of the rest after jayden daniel's team sent lsu a cease and desist over the jersey number five joe burrow says he was promised by the tigers the number nine wouldn't be touched let's take listen to what joey b had to say i just heard about it a couple hours ago i don't necessarily have too many thoughts at this time um i just don't i don't know enough about the situation to have any thoughts i would say is there ever been a conversation with you like you ever thought about that like since you left like they haven't used nine like um yeah they told me that they wouldn't use it again.
33:04But, you know, you never know. You never know what happens.
33:10I have a question
33:11Joe Johnson:too. Again, I don't know enough about the situation myself. Yesterday, last night, I was just giving my honest opinion on what I may have thought may be happening. I don't think any of us actually know. You know, unless you talk to Jayden Daniels, unless you talk to some of the staff and the people at LSU, we all are forming an opinion based on what we may see on Twitter. Do you think Joe Burrow was at LSU two years or three? Because I know he's a wild state, so he had two. Do you think it has anything to do with Jane Daniels not being there that long? What Jane Daniels, from what I can deduce, Jane Daniels, Brian Kelly,
33:50Shannon Sharpe:when the gentleman that was supposed to come to LSU picket, was supposed to get number five, Brian Kelly reached out to Jane Daniels. From what I can gather, Jaden Daniels was not amenable to him getting the number. Brian Kelly said, well, here you go. Here go number three. Okay. Brian Kelly loses his job. In come Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin. Brian Pickett says, Lane, they promised me number five when I came here. Here you go. They gave him number five. See, Lane, Ocho, what do they always do? normally when a GM comes in, he normally what? Brings his new coach in. What they promised you, he didn't promise you that.
34:35Shannon Sharpe:The old regime promised you that. They're no longer here. We don't have to abide by what they said. Now, I'm just telling you what happened. Like I said, when they retired my number, they put the number up. The old president said, Mr. Sharp, that number will not be touched again. The new president might come in and somebody want the number and say, hey, here you go. What am I going to do? I can't do nothing I don't own the number
34:58Joe Johnson:the school does right absolutely hey but I mean
35:04Shannon Sharpe:do y 'all think they made Jayden Daniels promises like they did Joe Burrow but you heard what he said but you never know like I said but did they tell Jayden Daniels that too though probably but who told him If I ain't there no more I'll love you forever That's what your old husband told you That's what your old boyfriend told you That ain't what I told you I'm Luther Vandross I told you I'm gonna love you only for one night
35:35Joe Johnson:Yeah Yeah Hey I don't To me honestly It ain't just a number It ain't just college You played at LSU You played at Arizona State I think now I really wouldn't look too much into it because now you're in the NFL you become much bigger than just that number five in general you become much bigger now you represent an organization you're the face of a franchise and listen what they're doing back at LSU to me I can't speak for him it just wouldn't concern me now because I'm on to bigger and better things my true childhood
36:14Shannon Sharpe:I think for me as a person that has his number retired my brother has his number retired at the University of South Carolina, and guys have come in and asked, and my brother said no. Basically, unless you Shannon Sharp, that number ain't coming down for anybody. And he didn't come here. So the answer is no. Somebody ask me, no. A lot of people. No, make your own number. I made number two at Savannah State. I made that number. Nobody had number. No, I don't remember nobody having number two. because I told Coach Davis what number you wanted. He said you can have any number you want because I wore number three in high school because my brother wore number three in high school.
36:55So I wore number three my sophomore, junior, senior year
37:01Shannon Sharpe:because I had number 19 when my brother was there. He had number three. Then once he left, I got three. Once I got some – Coach Davis said, what number you want? You want number three, son? I said, nah, I want three, Coach. I said, I want two because at that time, My brother had number two. I ain't want three no more. So Squirrel ended up Squirrel. The guy opposite, the guy I received opposite of me, we'll call him Squirrel. He ended up taking number three. But whatever number I wanted, I was going to get, because I was going to make that number what it was. Hello.
37:30Joe Johnson:What number I wore in high school?
37:33Shannon Sharpe:You the sorryest number two ever. No sound. Hey, hey, what number you wore in basketball when you was in high school? What was your number in basketball? 34. Why 34? The three number was too small. I couldn't fit in that, Joe.
37:55Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's how it was when I was in junior high school. When you get to junior high school, you first start really playing sports for a school. It's like, man, you want a nice single-digit number, but hell, they too damn small. You know what I mean? But I couldn't get that thing on my damn head. So, and then you got numbers based on like, because by the time, like the high school, that's when, okay, you got Larry Bird, Dr. J. You weren't going to get, first of all, you weren't getting no, you weren't getting six. They didn't want to get six. But you had, you could get 23 or you get 34. Those were like the really, really popular numbers, 23 and 34.
38:33Shannon Sharpe:Well, I was like, man, I guess I take this. Because I wanted 33, but somebody already had 33. Cause Larry Bird was 33. Larry Bird was my favorite player. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was probably the most popular number. And number three, when I was in high school, AI had just came in the league in like 96. So I was in high school and boy, I'm talking about he changed the whole landscape of basketball. You know, cause everybody wanted to wear three. Everybody wanted braids. Everybody wanted braids. Everybody wanted the sleeves. And wanted that crossover. Boy, you work, I worked on that crossover every damn day.
39:09Shannon Sharpe:Okay, Ocho, you hear me? Boy, what? And they were getting tatted up. That's it, yeah. Yeah, hey, hey, when I was in high school, Ocho, they were talking about some, me and the guys on the team, they was like, hey, man, we're gonna all go get our last name, put on our arm. Man, I ain't getting my damn last name. I know my last name. Yeah, yeah, I don't need a reminder. Hey, hey, Jocelyn. Nah, I'm good. Nah. But, yo, Joe, you might be onto something. What the... Joe Burrow said that they promised like, okay, we're not going to give nine out. There's an absolute chance that they made the same assurances to Jane Daniels.
39:50Shannon Sharpe:Hold up. Even though Jane Daniels didn't win a nat, right? Did he win a nat? He didn't win a nat at LSU, did he? And Joe did. He made a big difference, bro.
40:04Yeah.
40:04Joe Johnson:Yeah, I know that Joe Burrow had the greatest single football season
40:10Shannon Sharpe:for a college quarterback ever. Look, you can make a case that he had the greatest college season ever regardless of position. Me personally, I think it's Barry. You rush for 2 ,600 yards on Joe in 11 games, and when they don't count the five touchdowns, the 225 yards on 20 carries that you got in the bowl, that man almost rushed for 3 ,000 yards in 12 effing games. yeah hey that's that that special uncle ocho with them damn weapons joe burr lsu with chasing uh uh what's his name from jettel jettel

43:53Joe Johnson:You can probably put that offense against any of the best defenses. Nebraska, the Hurricanes of the early 2000s. Who else was good back then? The Florida States. You can probably put that offense up against anybody, and I think they'll be able to hold their own.
44:12Shannon Sharpe:You might have to go back to the 80 hurricane when they had Jay Boogie and all those guys. when you had Boogie and you had the Danny Stubbs. But no, and so Joe Burrow went undefeated. He threw 60 touchdowns. He almost threw for 6 ,000 yards. It was an unprecedented, unprecedented season. And look, I get what Jayden is saying, don't you? And Joe, you got like, bro, I went to Heisman. Ain't like we got, okay, we got like Oklahoma, we got USC, See, we got eight, seven, eight Heisman Trophy winners. We only got three. Oh, yeah. Me, Joe, and Billy Cannon. And so I'm sure he's feeling some type of way about that.
45:01Shannon Sharpe:But the only thing is the person that promised you that is no longer there. And so that – hey, true story, I did the same thing. I remember Mike came in. Now, I redid my extension. I got an extension in 93 because I signed my deal in 92. It was two years for 550. Two years for 550, Ocho. So they told me, hey, Shannon, you play like we think you're playing the way you're playing right now. We're going to tear this deal up. We're going to tear this deal up in two years. I'm like okay What you mean You gonna tear it up So I ended up going to the Pro Bowl In 93 I first-team All-Pro in 93 I go to the Pro Bowl again in 94 I'm What I have 87 catches I think I finished like Third in the league In AFC in catches that year Over a thousand yards So you know what you're I'm like hey How about I go back to the table Table, table, table, table, table, table, table, table.
46:17Shannon Sharpe:For the God, you'd ask Mike Sheldon, I'd say, Mike, you know, hey, you know, they told me if I have a C, hey, I go back to the Pro Bowl, they're going to tear the contract up. He's like, 84, I didn't make that promise to you. Mm. Ooh. You know, hey, I hit him with that blue. I said, you know, Mike, I ain't coming here trying to hustle you or nothing like that. You know, I ain't got no GM hat on or nothing. I ain't coaching nobody. You know, I'm just saying. He's 84? Hey. If I get up out of this track, it's going to be trouble, trouble.
46:54Shannon Sharpe:Hey. Oh, Joe, Joe. I said, man, I ain't trying to hustle you or nothing, Mike. Man, I ain't. I know I ain't no coach. You know what I'm saying? I know I ain't got no general manager hat on. I don't own the team, but I'm just saying. I was just saying what was told to me. Yeah. That's a, it's a, you know what? As a matter of fact, this is how convinced we are. We're not going to get a new contract. We're going to try to trade your ass. Damn. They did. They tried to trade me to Arizona. Hey, go back and look it up. They tried to trade me to Arizona for me, Mike Pritchard, and the 15th pick for Eric Swann.
47:29Shannon Sharpe:Trade fell through because they wanted more compensation, and the rest is, as they say, history. Joe Burrow broke the SEC single season record for touchdown passes and passing yards and 11 top 10 wins in two years. I mean, you think about it. They beat the brakes off Texas. They went to Alabama and beat Alabama. They beat the brakes off Clemson. They beat the brakes off Georgia. They were beating the brakes off everybody. No game that they played was close. The Alabama game, I mean, look, they were up 14, and they ended up throwing two and three touchdowns, 80-yard touchdown to Devontae Smith, made a seven-point go ball game, and then I think LSU ended up running out the clock.
48:07Shannon Sharpe:But for the most part, that was the closest, and that was look at all the talent that was on the field that day. Look at all the receivers. You had Waddle, Devontae Smith, Henry Ruggs, and Jerry Judy. On the other side, you had Jetta. You had Jefferson. Look at the running backs that you had. Nye J. You had Clyde Edwards-Alaire. Look at the quarterbacks that you had. Matt Jones was on the field was a backup Tua was a starting quarterback Joe Burrow was the other starting quarterback Hey, hey, hey Joe Burrow, he did a number on them boys in the natty game, didn't he? Yeah, hell he did a number on Georgia in the SEC championship game He did a number on The man threw for that 60 touchdowns
48:59Joe Johnson:Hey, matter of fact hold on now I don't know who it was in the chat but I saw your comment Talk about that 2019 LSU team. They would have stood no chance against Georgia, the Georgia defense in 2021. That's a lie. Hold on, man. I don't think we understand exactly who was on that team. You know, that LSU, man, them boys, that might be the best offense. It is.
49:25Shannon Sharpe:It is the best offense. In Calvary. Now, as far as, like, offense, because, like, back then, You got to realize, like, Nebraska had an – I mean,
49:36Shannon Sharpe:yeah, the old Oklahoma, they used to average 400 yards rushing a game, Mocho.
49:42Joe Johnson:But they did that – Wishbone.
49:45Shannon Sharpe:They run that wishbone. Hey, ain't nothing like that bone. It wasn't that whirlybird option. They spin all the way around and comes out of life. Kick that bag. Boy, they running back with hell back then. everybody run the wishbone or the veer some offshoots you know but that was great it's just like the only thing is is that by this getting out it makes Jayden look petty I think people are like bro you're watching it you're about to get a deal for$300 million and you're worried about somebody wearing a jersey
50:23Joe Johnson:you think you think money he's involved in any way, his likeness, his image in any way. He probably just a little salty.
50:31Shannon Sharpe:But Joe, let me ask you a question. Joe, they got your number. And they say, you know what? And you tell them, say, you know what? Y 'all can't use my name, image, and likeness. And they say, you know what? You're right, Joe. We're not. We finna take this 24 down. It's hanging up in the rafters. We don't want nobody to look up there and see Johnson on the back of that. So we gon' take that down. And the pictures that we got, the Heisman Trophy winners, you know what? We gon' take you out of it. And when we have the wall of fame for all Americans, we're going to take you off of it. So we don't want to use your name, image, and likeness.
51:00Shannon Sharpe:See, you see what I'm saying, how petty people can get, JoJo? Now all of a sudden you're looking like, nah, I ain't mean it like that.
51:08Joe Johnson:Right.
51:08Shannon Sharpe:I'm just saying, I just.
51:11Joe Johnson:It's tough. I hope most sides get a resolve in a respectful manner. I hope it doesn't have to go to court, even though I think the courts are involved now. Really? They got to fix it.
51:21Shannon Sharpe:What are the courts going to do? You don't own the number, Jerry, that the school does.
51:29Joe Johnson:I mean, listen, I'm with you when you're right. I just hate that it's coming to this. And I hate that it's coming to this where you have a fan base of people on the outside that are LSU fans, and now they're picking sides. And, you know, most of the LSU fans, you know what sides are. The school, hell yeah.
51:44Shannon Sharpe:For sure. Troy Aikman will see some restrictions in the lead up to the Monday Night Football broadcast. The restrictions are the same as Tom Brady faced for the past two years due to his part of ownership of the Raiders. Eggman will have to remotely attend production meetings when the broadcast crew meets with the game head coaches and key players and will not be allowed to attend practices at team facilities. Eggman spoke earlier this month about the conflict. The Dolphins are not expected to be very good this year. The Dolphins aren't expected to be very good this year. They're getting out of Camp Hill, so there is no Monday night game with the Dolphins this year.
52:20Joe Johnson:Damn. It's all good. We're going to be all right.
52:24Shannon Sharpe:We're going to be all right. No, you ain't. We're going to be all right. What do you think? What do you think? You like that, Joe? That the Dolphins ain't going to be on the Monday night game? No. That Troy, that, you know, the restrictions that they're placed on Troy.
52:45Shannon Sharpe:I must admit something, my bad. What restrictions? He can't. He has to be remote. normally what happens when you're going to do a game on a team, you get to go there, you get to go watch practice, you get to talk to the coaches in person, you get to talk to certain players in person. He's going to have to do it remotely. He's not going to be able to attend practice. Why is that? Because he worked with the Dolphins. Oh, okay. Same thing as Tom Brady.
53:13Joe Johnson:He can't watch practice? He can't watch practice.
53:16Shannon Sharpe:No, he can't watch. You know how they used to come and they watch the game? they watch your friday's practice they call your game sunday's colin's worthy brady can't do that now eggman can't do that they have to attend remotely so they can't watch practice and when they talk they're gonna be via you know cam what they call that skype whatever they call it man what's up with all that what i mean just because they got relations with the team that mean they can't that is correct come on man it don't make sense to me means it what i mean they're saying because they're front office people therefore you gain an advantage if you're watching practice you gain an advantage if you're talking to coach I mean like hell but that's their job ain't it Ocho yeah it is but you got which one you got to give up one you want to be in the Raiders you want to be an ownership with the Raiders or you want to be you want to do broadcasting with Fox you want to do a broadcast for ESPN or you want to help the Dolphins try to get out of cap hell and be a better team.
54:17Shannon Sharpe:They say you can choose one. Yeah, Aikman and Brady making a boatload from broadcast. I don't know what they're making as far as part owner, but I'm sure it's probably substantial. I think they brought Troy on as a consultant. Brady has an ownership stake in the Raiders. With that said, we know Tom signed a 10-year,$375 million deal. We know Eggman signed Basically a Five years, 19 million So whatever that adds up to Hold on, hold on, hold on Run that back though by Tom Brady What was his numbers again? 10 for 375 To commentate To call the game He's the color guy Well that's a hell of a job
55:07Joe Johnson:Hey
55:11Joe Johnson:I need to try my hand that color commentator.
55:16Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, sure, why not?
55:19Joe Johnson:Yeah, I just got a problem. I probably - Them cuss words. I'd be like, damn, I'll curse to you.
55:25Shannon Sharpe:That won't help.
55:28Joe Johnson:What'd you say, they gonna suspend me, Joe? Yeah, yeah. All they cussing ain't having that. One thing, they gonna be exciting, boy. They put me in that booth. Put me in that booth. Watch what happened. They gonna be exciting. Ain't no telling what the hell, Ain't no telling what the hell I'm going to say, Joe.
55:44Shannon Sharpe:Joe, it's going to be something, but I don't know what. It's going to be something, though.
55:48Joe Johnson:Respect. Hey, I have everybody tuned in. Yeah, so that's what they let say.
55:55Shannon Sharpe:Look, if you want to do both, we'll allow you to do both. But these are the restrictions. These are the limitations that we're going to place on you. And if you don't want to adhere to them, you're going to have to give up one. But Brady, you know, Brady, man, ain't nobody giving up to a damn near$40 million a year job. and to work 20 weeks a damn year? That's$2 million a week. Come on now.
56:28Shannon Sharpe:Man, come on. Hell yeah, man, please. Joe, who giving up that kind of job? Chad, y 'all giving up that kind of job. Y 'all giving up a job making$40 million for 20 weeks. Ain't nobody giving that up. If I don't know what's going on, I'm going to make like I know what's going on. You hear me? Hell yeah. Hey. What? Hey, Joe, they give me$40 million for 20 weeks. I won't say foot or ball. Oh, man. What? It won't be no more nightgap? 40 million? Hey, welcome to another episode of Nightcap. I am your host, ISO Joe Johnson. And this is my partner and co-host from Liberty City.
57:22Shannon Sharpe:Hey, the Liberty City Ledger. They call him the Liberty City Lizard. Y 'all don't call him liquor.
57:32Joe Johnson:Hey, you can't put that in your uniform.
57:35Shannon Sharpe:Ain't nobody gave me that kind of money, man. And I'm here with Nightcap. I'm here like Chucky say. I'm here to the end. Hey, guys, I'm Chucky. Want to play?
57:45Joe Johnson:Why used to be so scared of Chucky before? Hey, Nightcap. Y 'all that. Yeah. All that.
57:55Shannon Sharpe:Nah, so y 'all can see Joe B1B. Joe B1B in the free cap. Nah, look. I still be in last place. Hell, if it just be in Ocho here, He got one, two, and I got three. He got the first two spots by himself.
58:11Joe Johnson:Yeah. Yo, I'm innocent, Joe. I'm telling you, anything I'm going, this is from past experience, Joe. That's all.
58:19Shannon Sharpe:No, yeah.
58:20Joe Johnson:Joe, I'm old now, Joe. I can't do none of that stuff I show you no more, man. You know, the older y 'all get, the freaker y 'all get.
58:26Shannon Sharpe:Look at him. He 58. Whoa, whoa, whoa. What I got to do with that, dude? Joe, I'm over here minding my black business. My bad. My bad. back there in front now he quit he quit he quit to my own show why you tell him about business you got to chill with that old show but hey chat y 'all see what joe did y 'all see how he put my business out there my bad my bad hey joe joe ain't fooling nobody man it's always the quiet ones huh it's always the quiet ones huh yeah y 'all see how joe put my business out there quick my bad my bad my bad i ain't gonna do it no more my bad my bad steve smith senior says Shadour Sanders has been getting less plays than Deshaun as he's slower to get the plays going.
59:07Shannon Sharpe:Smitty says, I've heard that sometimes Shadour not running the same amount of plays because he gets to play in faster. He has to get the guys lined up. He's a little bit slower on that. Ocho, I'm going to send it to you first. What you thinking? Does that make sense?
59:26Joe Johnson:I mean, listen, when it comes to Smitty, I mean, his credibility, you know, and with the people but that he does know inside organizations, not just the Panthers in general. So there's probably some truth to it in general, but that's something that's fixable. That's something that can be corrected. Obviously, that's the point of having practice. You know, get the plays in, being able to call them fast, being able to make sure everybody's set up right before you go through your cadence, before you go through reading your progression of your defense, you know, making your points and whatever you need to do as a quarterback, once you get to the line of scrimmage.
59:59Joe Johnson:All it is is telling the quarterback, Listen, we need to speed up a little bit. Obviously, the 24 o 'clock, they have the 24 o 'clock running in practice to kind of gauge where you are when players are coming in. Obviously, and it's also on the offensive coordinator, to be able to get the plays in fast enough. Yeah, that's my point. Yeah, all of that collectively, it's intertwined between coach and player, not just Shadour. Joe? And maybe that's a
1:00:28Shannon Sharpe:development stage for young fellas to do it. Maybe it's just something he has to kind of experience and go through. I think he'll get better as the season goes along or as his reps increase, Uncle Ocho. You know what I mean? You don't know the headspace this young man is in considering the fact that he's coming out and competing day in and day out against Deshaun to try and see who's going to end up being the starting quarterback. but I don't see no big deal in it. But I'm like you, Ocho. I take what Steve Smith says. You know, it's respectable. Yeah, it's tough. He's still a young quarterback trying to figure this thing out, trying to be perfect.
1:01:12Shannon Sharpe:And the thing is, it's like most quarterbacks, they feel they can go in there and play the game and be free. He knows he can't make mistakes. It's hard playing like that. It's hard when you're under man and you know if you make a mistake, Ocho, that might be the difference in Joe. That might be the difference in you. Hell, you might not see the field again. Right. Yeah. Right.
1:01:41Shannon Sharpe:But that's a tough position to be in. You definitely got to get the plays in because that clock starts. And if they're slow getting the ball in, And he was like, if you notice Mahomes, as soon as somebody get tackled, he over there doing this right here. Come on, give it to me. Now, damn.
1:02:01Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, he wanted to play. The play's still going on. He like this. Yes. Give me the next one. Give it to me.
1:02:08Shannon Sharpe:Yes.
1:02:09Joe Johnson:Mahomes don't play, bro. Because it gives him time. It gives him time to see everything in front of him, and he's not rushing. He's not rushing. So anytime a quarterback can get that offensive line up early, and you got 15 seconds on the clock, that gives you plenty of time to assess what you need to, not only offensively making sure everybody's in the right place, but also seeing what you're defensively.
1:02:30Shannon Sharpe:Any audibles that I might need to make, any adjustments that I need to make, I can make those in a timely manner. Because the last thing I want to be doing, I'm getting to the line of scrimmage with 10. And now by the time I get set up, I send the guy in motion. I might want to make an adjustment. I can't make a damn adjustment because you didn't get to play in until 15 seconds. By the time I got it and caught it and we broke the huddle, it's 9, 10 seconds. By the time we got to the line, it's 7, 6, 6, 7 seconds. And now you want me to go through blue 17. Blue 17. Going to motion. Time out. What happened?
1:03:06Shannon Sharpe:Your slow ass took too long to get the damn play, and that's what happened. Hey, hustle up here. Hustle to the line. Hustle to the line.
1:03:17Shannon Sharpe:but because of the offensive coordinator basically you don't really get a chance to enjoy the game won't you you call a play you might look up and see what they is you got to be in your call sheet to see what it is hey and somebody feed you what what down is it second and five second and five second and five now you're going to the second and five call sheet okay yeah
1:03:40Shannon Sharpe:run a red right red right Z short two jet flaker drive red right two jet Z short two jet flaker drive ready break what down is it it's close is it the first damn it
1:04:05Shannon Sharpe:what do you mean you think it's a fumble is that a fumble should we challenge it they got a hundred they got a hundred things going on so it's not easy quarterback just think they just call the play but they try to get everything situated they try to hey what's the down to hey can we get a measurement no man come on we get a measurement that's close that's close that's a first down but i'm just trying i'm just trying to get mojo to stop trying to get them to stop the clock i don't ain't no damn first down that ball a damn foot short
1:04:38Joe Johnson:my favorite story of the joke what's that is when i was in new england and another reason i got a better understanding on why they why they win so much why they're so consistent year in and year out is when it comes to practice, everything was perfect. Everything was perfect. And you had to go consecutive plays without messing up or you'd be starting over. Not practice in general, but that specific period. You know, period. 10, 12 plays. But 10, 12, they got to be perfect. Well, I remember one time, I'm not going to tell the whole story, but I'm just going to tell a little bit of it. And I think I told it before, but Bill O 'Brien, and his mic wasn't working to call to get the play here, just like we are right now.
1:05:23Joe Johnson:And Tom, I can't hear. Give me the play again. And Bill said to play, I mean, not Bill, Bill O 'Brien said to play again. And Tom looked again and said, give me the goddamn play. And boy, Bill O 'Brien, man, I gave you the effing play already. Well, I didn't ever get it. And boy, hey, Uncle Joe, what ain't him and Tom going back and forth? I'm like, wait a minute.
1:05:49Shannon Sharpe:You going to intervene anytime, Coach Belichick? No, they'll figure it out.
1:05:54Joe Johnson:Hey, and Belichick got his whistle around his finger doing like this. I'm like, okay, this is normal. We started the period over. They got the mic working. We went through all 12 plays, and every last one was right. Hey, man, that was – I didn't see anything like that. No, no. Hey, Ojo. It's Tom Brady. They demand greatness on Ojo. Man, Joe, but them people over there.
1:06:23Shannon Sharpe:That's how it was in Denver, Joe. Alex Gil, hey, get in the effing huddle. I'm like, hold on. Why are you telling TD cut back? I was like, TD, why are you listening to him? He ain't running no running back. Shut the eff up, 84. How you going to tell TD he's just the best running back in the game and you telling him what he should have done. Man, get your old ass out of this huddle. Did he threaten me with 16 power? Because that was the only way to get me 16 power, especially against the over front. That means I got to block that big-ass defensive end by myself, Joe. Hey, let me think. Oh, yeah, the 16 power?
1:07:08Shannon Sharpe:I called House and said, hey, House, come get this one right here. My near little son. My knee a little sore. Hey, hey. Hey, say that knee bite. Yeah, yeah, that knee a little sore in 16th power. That big deal, I ain't fooling with that bad.
1:07:26Joe Johnson:Oh, boy. Boy, there's so many good stories.
1:07:30Shannon Sharpe:Harold Fanny Jr. had high praise for Browns rookie Denzel Boston in case he concepts young. You could definitely tell night and day difference in the weapons. You can tell that them boys are special. Honestly, it makes me work even harder because you get to watch them work so hard. Just kind of building off each other, off rip. KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston are some go-getters. They go and get it done. They go out there and execute. You can talk about Denzel in my mind. He has the highest ceiling. I'm watching him, and I'm like, that guy is somebody special. KC, too. I didn't know he was that fast.
1:08:02Shannon Sharpe:He can move. He can jump, too. Great ball tracking skills. Ocho, remember we had KC on, a guy that's worked his way through a speech impediment, Joe. we had him on last year. He had a speech impediment, and we finally got him to open up. We started making some jokes, and he was having a good time. But, hey, we watched him at Texas A &M. We got an opportunity to see him a couple of times, because obviously Texas A &M was a good team. They were on a lot. We also had Johnny Manziel. But that's high praise, the two rookies. And that's what you got to have. You got to have guys that can go get it done.
1:08:35Shannon Sharpe:Because for so long, they've been ineffective in that area, Ocho. They need – you got to have playmakers out there. All that other stuff, I know you got to have – but you got to have guys that you can put the ball up and they go make plays. Put the ball in his hands and let me go make a difference. Let me be a difference maker.
1:08:53Joe Johnson:Yeah, and I think the last time the Cleveland Browns had a difference maker was by Josh Gordon. I don't know what year that was, Joe. You ever seen Josh Gordon play, Joe? Yes, yes. Oh, my God.
1:09:05Shannon Sharpe:He was special.
1:09:05Joe Johnson:Boy, he was amazing.
1:09:07Shannon Sharpe:He was special. Hey, I like the fact that he said those young guys make him work harder, bro you know when you got good talent guys who come in ready to work ready to prove themselves man they can rub off on guys that you never would even imagine you know what i mean so for him saying like to see them guys how hard they work and how fast they are it makes me work harder like i enjoy hearing stuff like that because a rookie can motivate a guy who's already been in the league or a veteran guy that's been in the league so it's good to see that yeah i like harry fanning jr's game i think he has i think he has the potential to be really really special.
1:09:40Shannon Sharpe:I think he can be really really really good. He has that kind of ability. He showed some promise last year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can run. Can high point the football. Great runner. Great transition. Can get in and out of breaks. That's what I look for as a tight end. How seamlessly does he get in and out of breaks? How well does he transition? All the other stuff. I can teach you that other stuff. I can teach you concentration and catch the football. But if you can't get in and out of breaks, if you choppy, if you tip it routes off hey do y 'all think that's why they let uh what's his name in joku they let is that why that's probably why he let him go yeah he was injured a lot because they don't let you go unless they
1:10:21Joe Johnson:know the person behind you is going to be able to fill in position and give you that same production or even more and that goddamn family was nice boy oh yeah when it came to the cleveland browns outside of shador being a bright spot that everybody wanted to watch he was a bright spot when they came in production and make a play. Week in and week out until he got it.
1:10:38Shannon Sharpe:And he's probably a whole hell of a lot cheaper too. Yeah, for sure. On a rookie contract, look, the rookies that Cleveland had, they played really well. Remember, the linebacker was defensive player, defensive rookie of the year, Ocho. I think it's Swearinger or something. Yeah. I think he was defensive rookie of the year. Harold Fanny Jr. was unbelievable. Shadour came in, and when he got an opportunity to play, he played really well. They got some guys that can hopefully make some plays, and now they drafted two more guys. They need playmakers. I don't give a damn who the quarterback is. You better have somebody they can throw the ball to and can make it happen because that's what the football is.
1:11:17Shannon Sharpe:It's about, hey, putting the ball in your playmaker's hands and let them make plays. The sooner I can get it to you, the better off I'm going to be. Hello.
