In short
College and pro sports headlines plus debate on rules/eligibility and scandal fallout. Main segments cover: UMass’ 37-21 road upset of Rutgers to end a 16-game FBS losing streak; a Louisiana court ruling allowing ex-NFL players to return to LSU; UNC football under investigation after GM Michael Lombardi resigns; and discussion of LSU/Lane Kiffin and upcoming matchups. They also mention Myles Garrett being ranked No. 1.
Guests (hosts/participants)
Ashton “ISO Joe” Johnson (former NBA player; Atlanta Hawks “Mr. Clutch,” 7-time All-Star) and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson (former NFL Bengals WR; multiple Pro Bowls/All-Pro). Co-host Shannon Shaw is also referenced as “player partner,” but the episode’s main sports analysis is driven by Johnson and Ochocinco.
Key claims
Upsets happen because college teams can underestimate opponents and don’t have NFL-style “guard up” habits; the ex-NFL return ruling may create a “slippery slope” and loopholes; head-coach legacies can be stained by staff misconduct; UNC’s situation could be severe even if the head coach wasn’t directly involved.
Notable examples
UMass QB William “Pop” Watson (189 yards, 3 TD) and Rutgers paying $1.55M for the home opener; LSU’s eligibility/“grandfathering” discussion; UNC allegations involving Steve Belichick and recruiting staff; LSU vs Clemson and Ole Miss highlighted as key tests.

The Minutemen came in as almost a 30-point underdog, 29-and-a-half-point underdog.
12:08Shannon Sharpe:Quarterback William Pop Watson threw for 189 yards, three touchdowns in the UMass route. Rutgers paid$1 ,550 ,000 to get their ass kicked in their building in week one. UMass won the game last year, last won a game, October 26, 2024, against Wagner, 677 days ago. That was the last time they won a game? Huh? That was the last time they won a game? That was the last time they won a game. Oh, my God. Almost two years. What conference they in? umass umass hello umass i thought umass might have been fcs they might have moved up hey yeah they have ruckers is ruckers biggies they're in the mid-atlantic who uh umass are ruckers they in the biggies is there no i thought ruckers was in the big was uh nah if ruck is in the big 10
13:14Joe Johnson:hey listen hey hey you you can't you can't underestimate you know these teams when i think about a team like umass that comes out and upsets ruckers like this on it make me think of indiana and and and the team that indiana was able to assemble with all those players know from different backgrounds from from different cultures because you need certain dogs on your team they thinking that UMass is the UMass of old that hadn't won a game since 2024 not understanding, they don't understand and know what they got in that portal to come over there and join them boys you get you some dogs on your team you get a result like this hey that quarterback, what's his name, Pop what?
13:52Joe Johnson:yeah Pop Watson the bird he was dishing boy, he was good in the dealing Joe
13:58Shannon Sharpe:yeah hey and when you look at it, Uncle Ocho in college football, you don't get no damn them two note games. You know what I'm saying? You just going. You hit the ground running. Yeah, you hit the ground running. So you're very vulnerable to lose to some of these teams that you probably didn't anticipate on losing to.
14:19Shannon Sharpe:Hey, what you? What that is? I don't get anything on my burger, just ketchup.
14:24Joe Johnson:But that, hey, you should have went to McDonald's, man. Hey, who that is? Air Roy?
14:37Shannon Sharpe:man i guess i'm gonna have to wait jordan eat it cold after we got you because i i had i had donuts i don't want to eat on camera because you know i you bet you know how people are bad don't you care about the thing he eat no he eat no camera no i'm good i can eat that special though
14:53Joe Johnson:you know we we people can relate to that you feel me nope everybody everybody gotta eat so i ate
14:58Shannon Sharpe:christian cream donuts at the end of the show yesterday yeah you you be eating something else
15:04Joe Johnson:can't nobody relate to that i don't talk about on camera yeah oh i would put that past
15:14Shannon Sharpe:i would put it past you joe joe he act like he's saying something like okay i fell into that one my bad my bad look you're right i think that's the biggest thing joe you you got to hit the ground running when you play college football. College football, you have joint – I mean, in pros, you have joint practices. You have three preseason games. You have tune-ups. All you got is spring. That's it. Now, when I played high school football – Oh, Joe, did y 'all have what they called jamborees? Jamborees, yeah. Hey, listen. Yeah, we have jamborees. So, you play a half against – you play a half against one team and then another half against another team.
15:53Joe Johnson:And if you see all your homeboys and all the schools, they're at the same time, Joe.
15:57Shannon Sharpe:Jamboree. As a matter of fact, we had our game. Yeah, that was cool.
15:59Joe Johnson:I liked that. Yeah, Jamboree was fun. I'll never forget. We had Jamboree at Midlander Stadium, man. Miami Northwestern, Jackson Central. All you get to see all your homeboys, man. Hey, that was cool. Yeah. That was fun.
16:10Shannon Sharpe:Well, when you got that many teams, y 'all only probably playing a quarter. Y 'all probably basically getting the equivalent of a half playing a quarter because you got so many teams that's out there. We only had like – we bring like two other teams. So we play a half against one and then a half against another team and then that's kind of how it was. But those were the fun days back then. But, you know, college football has always been built on the big upset. We saw, what was that, App State a couple years ago go in the big house. Yeah. So we've seen this. So we're not – look, even though this is a ginormous upset, you spend a million and a half dollars to have a team come in there, and normally when you spend that kind of money, Joe, you're looking to beat the brakes off them.
16:52Shannon Sharpe:Oh, you, hey, that's basically a homecoming game to start the season with. But the Minutemen had other ideas. They's like, nah, oh, y 'all, I know what y 'all brought us in here for. But it ain't going to go like that.
17:01Joe Johnson:Oh, so they thought, most definitely. That's exactly right. They did think that. You schedule games like that, Joe, to get your rhythm. Yeah. Be your team. Get your confidence going, especially for certain players. And to come out and get whooped like that, not understanding, nah, this ain't the same UMass from last year or the year before. It's a different ball game. And I'm telling you, I don't know the number. I don't know the players. I don't know who they got. But it's a difference in players that they have on that team now this year.
17:31Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing is that you see a lot of times, like, in college, if you think you're better, it's easy to look down on an opponent. You don't get that so much because everybody's pro. Everybody doesn't have the same level of player in colleges. And sometimes when you've got this many four - or five-star recruits, you've got a big transfer, and you play somebody that doesn't have as many four - and five-star or as many big-name transfer portal guys, you're like, ah, we got this in the bag. You don't really make that mistake in the NFL because you realize all these guys are pros. All these guys, they meet, they practice, they got excellent coaches.
18:05Shannon Sharpe:And so more times than not, you have your guard up because you know any given Sunday you can get your ass beat. But in college football, there seem to be more times that guys will let their guard down because you're still dealing with 18, 19, 20-year-olds. And so they're more apt to let their guard down and run themselves into trouble for the simple fact they let their guard down and the team comes in and upset them. Yeah.
18:34Pull the table back a little bit, Jordan. Yeah.
18:39Shannon Sharpe:This is what we got here. What's next? A Louisiana judge rules against the NCAA, clearing the path for ex-NFL players to join an LSU roster. East Baton Rouge judge Parrish, Judge William Jordan, issued a ruling late tonight before LSU was due to submit its 105-man roster to the SEC, which last week announced heavy potential punishment for football and basketball teams that bring ex-pros. The ruling clears the way for LSU to list some of the former players on the roster. How many games might be eligible play remains to be seen as the matter is continue to work its way through the court. Jordan said he considered sanctions against SEC and the NCAA, but ruled he was not ready to issue that at this time.
19:25Shannon Sharpe:Jordan decision followed nearly a nine hour hearing in the courtroom near LSU's campus in which athletes after athlete took the stand to explain why they should be allowed to return to play college sports after turning.
19:36Joe Johnson:I would love to hear that. I would love to hear their reasons on why they should be able to return to college after not being to make it make an NFL roster. How that improve you as a player, your child, your dream as a child, Uncle Joe, is to be able to make it to the highest level. So if anything, how is going back to college helping you in any way?
19:59Shannon Sharpe:To where I understood, Ocho, it was one guy. He got injured. Oh, he had he had he had he had to turn pro. because his eligibility was up. Okay, understand. But the way they did it, you get five years, so now he was able to come back. He didn't, from what I'm understanding, Chad, you can correct me if I'm wrong. So basically he can go back and get that fifth year of eligibility. Okay. Because he got injured in college, he thought he was going to have to turn pro because his eligibility was up. I don't think he got drafted. I don't think he... You bought a sofa you didn't have to assemble, a suit someone measured just for you.

24:31Joe Johnson:You would have never thought a scenario like this would happen in general. Never.
24:36Shannon Sharpe:Never in a million years. Because remember, Ocho, normally if you – Joe, y 'all used to have it. If you put your name, submit your name to the draft, you were stuck. Yeah, you couldn't come back. You got to think. Now they give you – what they give you now, Joe, 30 days, 60 days to submit your name to the draft. Yeah, they let you go through the little draft combine and all that. Okay. Ocho, test the waters out. You may even get to compete in some of the, you know, five-on-fives that they do just to kind of see where you're at. And I actually kind of like it because you can, like a lot, like some cats, you can increase your draft stop if you play well.
25:10Shannon Sharpe:And obviously, if you don't play as well as you would have liked, then you get an opportunity to get a chance to go back to school. But what we're witnessing here now is just, you know, but if I'm letting kids – You can't get drafted and go back. Nah, nah, nah. You can't get drafted and go back. But from a player's standpoint, Uncle Ocho, I understand Lane because if the rules allow you and it allows you to take these actions, hey, man, you have to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. Now that you done closed it, hell, it's too late. We're not ready. You know what I mean? So I think Lane Kiffin, I think he under so much pressure too, Uncle Ocho, to get off to such a great start.
25:50Shannon Sharpe:I mean, he finna play against Clifton, bro. Come on now. I mean, understand, they was heavy in the portal and NIL and all that, bro. Come on, man. Y 'all see the money they gave Kiffin to come over that man? That man trying to do whatever he can. Who's surprised? I was going to say, Ocho, before you go, who's surprised that of anybody that would have done this that is Lane Kiffin, based on his history, knowing who he is and how he operates, I don't think anybody in college football or follows college football or watches college football is surprised that Lane Kiffin is the one that did this. Just based on his resume, just based on his history.
26:31Shannon Sharpe:Hell, he done been to damn near school, every school in the SEC. Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama, now he's at LSU. Remember, he was at USC.
26:40Joe Johnson:But you know what we can't do? We can't blame Lane. We can't blame him. No. Now, who we can blame is playing the NCAA. We can also blame the loophole that the players found and being able to make it to the NFL and say, you know what? It didn't work for me. I'm going to go back again. And being that no one's ever thought of this, that there's been no scenario where this has happened before. And the courts ruled that the players can do so. Hey, I mean, it is what it is. But what happens after you do go back and you play that one year? What's your next step? What's the next step? Because now you're still facing like, OK, you can't go back a second year again.
27:15Joe Johnson:now you're stuck you play one more year let's say some people say oh the players that that they're choosing not to go they're choosing go back to college oh they're doing it for money it's nothing you're going to be able to live off for the rest of your life because obviously if you wasn't that guy to make an NFL roster you're not making enough to go back to college and live
27:32Shannon Sharpe:the rest of your life off of hey hey going back to college though he might can get him a little bag though Ocho that he probably wouldn't get in the program that bag from last Joe it probably ain't gonna last long ultra he probably ain't that good they even make it to the nfl like that for real if he got to go back so look let me take advantage of this last little year or so that i got you know give me a little give me a few coins together because i probably nfl probably gonna work out i think the thing is what you got to be the thing is look if you go back and look at our constitution you look at the amendments amendments had to be added because there were things that that happened along the way that was back in 1776 that you didn't anticipate in 1876 or 1976 or 2020 so there are things that because there's no way that college football the ncaa could have foreseen a scenario that a player would actually go even if he's not drafted but go participate practice play in a game on an nfl team and say you know what get released and say you know what I'm going to go back to college.
28:38Shannon Sharpe:There was no way you could have foretold of that. And so now the NCAA is going to have to get and say, okay, y 'all got us this year, but your damn show won't get us moving forward in 27. We finna close this portal. You know, in sci-fi movies, you know how people used to go into the portal and they can transport themselves way, and then you have to go back and find that portal again to bring your ass back? The NCAA about to close this portal. Ain't no more teleporting. going, hey, you know what? Let's go play in the NFL. Nah, that didn't work out. Let's teleport ourselves back to college football to play college basketball or college baseball, whatever the case may be.
29:17Shannon Sharpe:They're going to close this loophole. But it's too late. You can't close it for this year. I think the guys are going to be able to play this year. SEC said they're going to sue. I just, it was a ruling. You can't, once I start to do something now, you talk about, no, I can't do it. it's like a it's like a school policy you can't tell me I can't wear jeans if that was not a part of the school policy now moving forward next year now if you say there's a dress code that's in place Ocho you say there's a dress code and we can't have certain you know you need to wear khakis or you need to wear slacks you need to wear a blazer and a college shirt and you know we run afile with all this stuff they say your hairstyle has to be a certain way and we see people running afile with that
30:05Joe Johnson:but it was in place and also the one thing i'm gonna joke is i i do like the idea of players that might have gotten hurt that might have gotten hurt and didn't have eligibility now those giving them giving them an opportunity to play a season out healthy and seeing what they can do i'm all for that i'm all for that but but not players that that that that have played you've been there four years, you didn't make it, and you leave the NFL and come back, you go, yeah, the fifth year, no. No.
30:39Shannon Sharpe:That's a slippery slope, though, Ocho. Yeah. You definitely opened up Pandora's box. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a slippery slope, because you're going to have kids playing two games, then they mess around, acting like they hurt, just so they can come. That's a slippery slope, bro. You already know, Joe, and that's the thing. But I don't know what they can do in 2026. 2027 and beyond, Okay, we can fix this. You get to go to the NFL, I don't give a damn if you don't play or not. You wore it, you put that uniform on, you had a helmet on, you had their colors on, that's it for you. Yeah. Hey, I don't know though.
31:15Shannon Sharpe:This, hey, hey, LSU might be the most fascinating team in college football this year, Uncle Ojo. No Lane Kiffin is. Well yeah, Lane Kiffin. I mean, considering the fact that, you know, he got a whole new squad over there, bro. new quarterback, water heavy roster, NFL controversy. I just think playing Clemson week one, we're going to find out real quick whether, you know, LSU really has what it takes to win a natty. So you got to hit the ground, you know, kicking.
31:44Joe Johnson:That's two games that I'm looking forward to, not only the game when they play Clemson, but when they play Ole Miss. Boy, that's going to be a game. I don't know where they play. I don't know if they play in Baton Rouge or if they play at Ole Miss. Either way, it's going to be a good game. Yeah.
32:01Shannon Sharpe:Look, we can say what we want to say about Lane. It's hard to argue that he's not a damn good coach. Yeah. He can coach. Yeah, he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with some of the things that he does. Yes, he does. Kind of run afoul. He's kind of worn out his welcome everywhere that he's been. He could have easily just gone on to LSU and not fought to stay because if you wanted to stay and coach Ole Miss, you should have stayed your ass at Ole Miss and coach Ole Miss. And I don't blame him. We're not going to allow you to be the head coach of another team and coach this team. Some teams allow that.
32:40Shannon Sharpe:The bowl game. Yes, yes. Because his team was in the college football playoffs. So he wanted to keep coaching.
32:52Shannon Sharpe:Nah, I agree with that, Ocho. No, no, you go ahead and go. If you wanted to coach Ole Miss, you wanted to coach these players, you should have stayed there. Not granted. Go ahead, Ocho. Go ahead, Ocho. Y 'all saying he should have stayed there, but hold on. Now, the man that got another job opportunity, probably a raise, because Ole Miss probably wasn't getting that kind of money. What y 'all expect him to do? Somebody come to y 'all with that type of money? Come on, man. From what I've heard, they matched the offer. Now, they probably weren't going to be able to match facilities. They weren't going to be able to match the portal to be able to get the guys.
33:28Shannon Sharpe:Probably got a$20 million budget. They probably weren't going to be able to match all that, but I think they could have matched the salaries. I don't have a problem with him leaving, Joe. I had a problem with saying he wanted to coach the guys. I want to finish what I started. Stay your ass there. If you want to finish what you started, it you don't get you don't you don't get the way i look at it you don't get to be with somebody else and still get the same benefit from old lady that oh yeah yeah it's still access you know you see no sir hey you got to damn i got the opportunity of a lifetime fellas i mean come on we're going i want to i want to fulfill i want to fulfill this little yeah i mean i got going on a little situation i got going i want to go home from philly because i got these boys over the old mr where we in the playoff the uh uh ncaa playoff man yeah well i can't finish it no no no not not
34:23Joe Johnson:after you accepted a job somewhere else you put another else but you want to finish here you think and cross rt didn't leave oh they had a lot of zeros behind some of them numbers they had over
34:37Shannon Sharpe:that man hey joe oh sure now we see oh now we disagree with you joe we're not saying don't take the job take the job but take your ass where the job's at that's all hey don't hey don't that's
34:50Joe Johnson:all we that's all we don't don't play in my face that's about you you know you started but i'ma
34:56Shannon Sharpe:still leave uh-uh thank you if you want to finish what you started guess what you should have done stay well it might be some players who only came there because i recruited they better come on with
35:07Joe Johnson:me they better come on with me and that's exactly what they did i know that quarterback didn't go
35:14Shannon Sharpe:with him trinidad chambliss yeah he fought to get to get a six-year eligibility he got that he didn't go to lsu got it but they know they got one he wanted to stay at old miss now he probably getting probably giving some you know big bucks and no whammies which i don't blame it i don't have no problem i don't i do not have a problem someone taking another job that's well within their right. People move jobs. There are very few people that have the first job and they keep that job for the rest of it for 30, 40 years old. Most people change jobs more than once. Some people change jobs two, three, four, five times.
35:49Shannon Sharpe:I got no problem with that. My problem is I also have a problem with a job. You hiring someone else and then say, hey, can you train them up for us? Hell no, I can't. Because if you wanted me to train them, you'd have kept me here. I got no problem I got no problem either way now if the person wants to do that that's well within their right but most people like nah I'm going to go ahead and go he'll learn he or she will learn hold on to the audacity though Uncle Joe
36:18Joe Johnson:they even asked me to train somebody up that's here to take my place yeah
36:26Shannon Sharpe:Joe you helping somebody as far as what they got their they're gonna let you go but they want you before you go they want you to train the person to do the job that you were doing hey hey hey that's just like dating a girl and and and y 'all break up and you see the guy who she dating he said hey man give me some tips on how i need on what i need to do dana hell no he's gonna have to figure he's gonna have to figure it out just like i had to figure it out okay oh joe but you are but you got the head start you already got the intel joe you You already took the chair. Hey Joe, you got the clip notes.
37:00Shannon Sharpe:See, I said, Joe is. Joe, you got the clip notes. Joe take a class, he ain't gonna share the answer. You got the clip notes without having to read the book, Joe. Ocho, Ocho, she may not act like, she may not act the same with him as she did with me. I can't, I can't, you know what I mean? I can't prepare him for something that may not, that may never happen.
37:20Joe Johnson:Hey, you, I saw Joe, you right by that, what?
37:23Shannon Sharpe:Oh, he's doing it. You can see it right. Hey, you fight, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, Joe, I ain't getting no pointers. I want him to catch hell like I did. Hey, you got to figure it out.
37:32Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, you might bring out a different version of her that he will never reach.
37:38Shannon Sharpe:That's what I'm trying to tell you. I got you. But maybe he want to pull that side. Right, but he's not Joe. Pull what side of it. That side that you was able to get to, but you know what I'm saying, but your personality kind of raw, so the mistakes that you made, he won't make that mistake. Well then I don't need to tell him how he need to go about it then. Hell, he can figure it out as he go. Yeah.
38:01Joe Johnson:Hey Joe, I'll tell you one thing. I know you don't want to tell him all the secrets to how to make a happier dude or do the dude, but that don't make you no bad brother, baby.
38:14Shannon Sharpe:Nah, hell nah. I ain't tell you nothing. Yeah, you hear me? Hey, hey, what's she like? What's her favorite color? Yeah. I don't know. what's she like what she like to do i don't know right hold on everything all them all
38:27Joe Johnson:them first date questions you get them out the way right quick and locking them in your memory bank
38:33Shannon Sharpe:whatever she hasn't told you i guess she didn't want you to know hello because i ain't telling you nothing hello i ain't saying nathanian period yeah yeah hey that's your question too huh favorite baby what's your favorite color uh i'm asking green is so it's so many different shades of green what green far as green you see uh hey you see how many times you've been in green which you would do yeah yeah and you told me what's your favorite color i'm money green teach him someone teach him something your favorite color black no because i always wear

39:27Shannon Sharpe:well i don't know if you want to feel that way in black but okay what the mirror means look it up
39:40Shannon Sharpe:What's wrong with this dude?
39:41Joe Johnson:Demure. Reserve, modest, shy. Yeah, that's me. I'm reserved and modest. Bad shit your answer.
39:52Shannon Sharpe:He's the loudest dude when he come into the room. Hey, wait, hey. Joe, hey. Everything they say, he not. He talking about, yeah, that's me right there. That's me. Hey, Joe, what you wearing tomorrow, Joe? Come on, come on, man. 40:58Shannon Sharpe:Anderson. He got Anderson.

44:27Shannon Sharpe:I already know it. I already know it. The UNC football program is being investigated on allegations regarding whether defensive coordinator Steve Belichick provided drugs to a player or used them while on duty. Separately, whether a member of the USC recruiting staff had a sexual relationship with a player. The investigation includes allegedly possible sexual relationships between assistant coaches and recruiting staff. The investigation comes as UNC football GM Michael Lombardi resigns from his position earlier Thursday. Ocho, if all these allegations are true, how bad could this be for the legacy of Coach Belichick?
45:05Joe Johnson:Oh, man. Man, this is crazy. But the funny thing is, it's not, it's people that are attached to Coach Belichick. It's not actually him doing it. You understand what I'm saying? so you know those people are an extension of him so that stain obviously can it affect his legacy yes in a sense but what he's done on the football field him in general that's that's in a class of its own but people will continuously bring this up when we talk about coach belichick in general uncle joe but listen these are the things that happen they'll bring up the flake gate you know they'll bring up that they'll bring the stuff up with with obviously they'll bring up the the age differential when it comes to who we decided to date now they'll bring up this situation as well so some of those things can stain the legacy especially for those that aren't too fond of him and how he's treated people over the years and not not being as is open and welcoming when it comes to having to do certain things uh you know with with media in general so they've been they're looking for anything any they're looking for anything to use as a negative and to say okay look see this is why this is why he wasn't first ballot this is why we didn't let him in right away so i mean i mean it's it sucks for him but and ah dog that's that's crazy how does this stuff always get out hey man people talk yep the same way the same way um everything happens people talk
46:31Shannon Sharpe:and oh joe it's hard to keep us it's really hard to keep a secret unless you do it by yourself if it's two if it's if it's more than one person involved if somebody get jammed up if somebody get caught and i ain't the biggest player i got to roll over bro i got to tell you know what's so
46:52Joe Johnson:funny and we see that time and time and time and time again today i'm i'm saying i'm y 'all probably not don't listen to watch but just me i don't live that lifestyle but i just see a scenario that going on like that right now and i'm not mentioning any names anything but i'm like well but though everybody was so close everybody always tight-knit but as soon as one person falls they
47:12Shannon Sharpe:get the point in the finger and everybody telling them hell yeah hey it's all good if they if they know you're involved partner and they want to cut in on their sentence you want to cut in on their sentence hey hey boy i see them boys out there whistling singing songs boy i'm like oh yeah i
47:29Joe Johnson:know exactly what you got to take what it come with because that's the lifestyle you chose if you choose that life exactly things crumble you supposed to sit on that you got to stand on that but you know how people are that's what you chose but people don't think oh joe you know how the
47:45Shannon Sharpe:mind is wired nobody thinks it's gonna happen to them i'm not gonna if i choose this lifestyle i'm not gonna get rundown on nobody's gonna get the drop on me i'm never gonna go to jail i'm never don't do a bid. So they're thinking that when you youth and you young, you think you invincible. You don't think this could possibly happen to you. The judge told my homeboy, he gave my homeboy like 240 months. My homeboy say, judge, I can't do all this time. Judge said, do what you can.
48:19Shannon Sharpe:Do what you can. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Do what you can. Hold on. Judge told him do what you can and come back and sit. Do what you can. He said, Judge, I can't do all that time. Judge said, do what you can. I don't know how much of you can do, but just do whatever you can, son. Hey, this is very unfortunate for North Carolina though. Yeah, man. Was that his son? involved that's his son that's his son involved and you know what's you know what's wild about all this you look at you look at what happened in michigan uh there's a lot more that i'm sure that goes on that doesn't get caught you know what i'm saying like this this is normal activity if you ask me yes like i i i've seen quite a bit bro and you know going through college and understanding what's accessible to you nowadays hell it's time 10.
49:19Shannon Sharpe:yes bro yes
49:23Joe Johnson:man some people know how to keep their mouth closed some people don't obviously the more people know the more risk it is depending on what you're doing so i mean it but you get riskier
49:34Shannon Sharpe:oh i think the thing is so you a lot of time when you're doing things you become you just like, you get just, instead of just keeping that thing on the hush hush and keeping it quiet, all of a sudden you talking to that person, I'm public. And you all up on them. People read, listen, people read body language. People can read the tea leaves. All of a sudden you talking to, every time I turn around, she in your face and you in her face. Every time I go somewhere, I see, hey, she at the same place that you at.
50:05Joe Johnson:People gonna pick up on that. Oh, you know what? Small example. Always being in the same place, thinking nobody's watching. Without saying names, you already know what I'm talking about. How they always get you in videos of y 'all together. It shouldn't be that, especially with you being here and that individual also being a part of that world, too. What are you doing?
50:28Shannon Sharpe:Just so happens that every time, just so happens y 'all like the same type of food on the same type of night. At the same restaurant. in the same room. Damn. Yeah. It's just, I just, you know, I hate this for Coach Belichick and Coach Belichick is so buttoned up. But it just goes to show you no matter how buttoned up a program is or the head of the program, you really can't control what the subordinates do. And that's not fair.
50:58Joe Johnson:That's the part that's not fair. It's not. Because whoever's under you, I'm going to joke, whoever's on your staff, you're responsible for their actions, even if you don't know nothing about it. The same thing with coaches. Even if you don't know. You're the head coach of a football team. You're responsible. Georgia players, they always get in trouble for doing one thing. Speeding every goddamn time. Every time. And they blame the coach. Like, I can only, I can't control all of them. When in my eyesight, under my supervision, in the gym, in the locker room, on the field, yes, I can't control them outside of my outside of that environment but you still take man i mean it's unfair that's why that's why
51:44Shannon Sharpe:if you're a head coach you really have to pick your staff well because it don't matter what they do on can also they are reflection yeah period point blank so this is always going you know this is going to have a stain on belichick you know whether he like it or not whether he knew about it or not it's just part of it it comes with the territory bro he probably picked this whole damn staff you know what i mean yeah i did yeah so hey man man that's because what what what well he didn't know they're gonna say you should have known hello it's your job i'm telling yep man that sucks and that as as as the head of everything you have that's what you have to do I mean, it sucks.
52:30Shannon Sharpe:Now you got the clean house. Well, I mean, Lombardi resigned. Doesn't seem like Steve is coming back because Coach Belichick called. He called the defensive signals last week. Yeah. So it doesn't look like he's coming back. They said the investigation is still ongoing.
52:54Joe Johnson:I thought it was just the drug stuff. you you mentioned some other stuff about sex and then and all this yeah
53:04Shannon Sharpe:yep hey yeah y 'all know how it go yeah then recruits come in you trying to show them a
53:10Joe Johnson:funky good time joe that's a whole story joe that's been going oh hey that's been going on since the 1920s now but what i'm saying is that we we can't act like it don't happen though ojo
53:20Shannon Sharpe:Joe, it happens. It's been happening. It's gonna continue to happen. I turned mine down though when I went. How many of them you turned down, Joe?
53:28Joe Johnson:How many did it offer you?
53:31Shannon Sharpe:It was two.
53:32Joe Johnson:Okay, okay, Joe, okay.
53:34Shannon Sharpe:Are you, hey, hey. Oh, see, oh, Joe slow motion. See, oh, country boy. Oh, country boy ain't no nothing about that. Hey, Joe. Whoa, whoa, whoa, look, look, look. Don't get me up here taking me fast. Let me, let me get settled in. Damn, I'm good. I'm good. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down. Slow down.
53:51Joe Johnson:Hey, Joe, I ain't gonna mention no name. I went on a little trip one time, you know? I ain't really had the grades to get in there, but they brought me in anyway. I don't even know how they made a flight on me, but you know, just to appease me and try to get me to come to their entity. You know, they had five of them for me, Joe. Damn, five? Yeah, yeah, yeah, different ethnicities. Boy, you ain't got enough for five, do you? Boy, who, Joe? Boy, come on, brother. Hey, Joe, you know what they call me? Hey Joe, they call me 33 for a reason, boy. My bad, my bad, my bad. They had five of them and I was like, you know, different ethnicities, different heights, you know, different weights.
54:28Joe Johnson:I was like, okay. And they, but the whole point of them having that was, listen, if you come here, I just want to show you that we have adversity. You hear me? You pick from, you know, I'm like, oh. You said they had what? Adversity.
54:42Shannon Sharpe:No, diversity.
54:43Joe Johnson:Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm,
54:44Shannon Sharpe:yeah, yeah, you don't want adversity. You don't want that. bad hey i'm a little nervous right now i'm trying to make sure i don't get no pillow and then flying out my head right right i got you it's back in the day it's back in the 90s yeah yeah yeah it's
54:59Joe Johnson:over 20 something years ago yeah you know i'm just telling the old story yeah my bad i'm gonna cut
55:08Shannon Sharpe:that yo this man so he had he what kind of adversity we got for you
55:17Joe Johnson:yeah that old story you know old story you know yeah yeah yeah i was i was professional joe i'm a professional i ain't even i say i appreciate that i appreciate the offer appreciate all but i ain't got no uh i ain't got nothing on me
55:33Shannon Sharpe:damn hey can i kind of i i don't want i don't want nothing to get thrown your way neither but i want to ask you a quick was they was was they up to par
55:47Shannon Sharpe:Hey Joe. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I got you. I got you already.
55:56Joe Johnson:Y 'all two fellas. Hey Joe, one to 10, you know, eight and nines. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was locked in though. I would forward. I was trying to show them. I would focus on the end goal. That what y 'all showing me, that's going to be there. That's going to be there at any point at any time. You know? yeah oh so does that normally work that normally
56:20Shannon Sharpe:hey hold up though hey because because see me in college they were just a pissed out okay ocho i ain't gonna be here long baby girl i ain't finna i ain't finna waste your time i'm gonna keep it 100 with you you know i'm saying like i got something i got something i gotta do i got somewhere i got to be you hear me i got a dream i'm going to chase man it's right there i promise you i ain't finna mess it up i promise you i ain't yeah i'm with you when you i'm with you
56:44Joe Johnson:You're right. Listen, at least you had one pit stop. Boy, I had to make a few of them like I was a NASCAR driver, Joe. I had to change tires. I had the gas up. I had a fender bender. I had to go back to the pit stop. Yeah, but it worked out for me, Joe.
56:59Shannon Sharpe:It probably, it was worth it though. It was worth it. When you think about it, when you think about it, where you ultimately got and the type and the career that you had. Come on, man. I made it much more difficult, Joe. I made it so much. Yeah, you can't, Ocho, Ocho, you can't have a testimony without a test, partner. Why don't you start preaching today? You can't have a testimony without a test. That's all I'm saying, man. You got, hey, that's how it go. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Come on, Joe. Yes, sir. I like that. I like that. Okay. Yeah.
57:33Shannon Sharpe:That was a good one. Look at those. Look at that. Don't get hit up.
57:38Joe Johnson:I'm not good. I just explained. That's why I went off. I looked off camera and said, this is old. it's 25 some years ago yeah he really really nothing like that you feel me yeah oh just oh
57:49Shannon Sharpe:yeah we're not like old war stories you feel yeah he had he had a pass he had a plan hey we all do you hear me yeah hello you know me mine you know mine pretty clean you know okay what's pretty clean joe i ain't saying that i don't know that that's that's the boy you You're supposed to say, yeah, I know that. The real fact that you did say the thing and you didn't co-sign real quick enough. I'll wait for you to keep going. I thought you had something out today. You know what I mean? That's all I wanted to say. I ain't got no more to add to it. Look. I hope this doesn't keep Coach Belichick out another year.
58:30Shannon Sharpe:First of all, he should have been a first ballot. It's going to be very interesting because there are some guys coming up they have some checking stuff in their past don't you? And we're going to see because before T.O. came up they didn't use anything off the field against the guy to keep him from going into the hall. It was solely based on what you did on the field. So.
58:53Joe Johnson:Hey you know how they do though. They change the rules. They move the goalposts depending on who it is. There's some people they like there's some people they don't.
59:03Shannon Sharpe:Hold on though. Hold on. Man, they won all these. Come on, we talking about Belichick. This man ain't first ballot, bro. Man, listen, he's the standard. There ain't no such thing. There should not be another coach that get in on the first ballot if Coach Belichick didn't go in. That's insane. That's insane.
59:27Shannon Sharpe:It's going to be very interesting. I hate that this falls up and happened on his watch. You're responsible for what happened. on you. It's just like parents. I mean, so how do I know what my kids do? But I'm held responsible for them, Joe. They get out of the house and they go and they do all kind of stuff. When I got my eyes on them, I can see them. And I hope I've done a good enough job raising them that they know right from wrong when they get out from under my eyesight, my eye line. Hello. Yeah. Hey, you know, I hope I ain't misquoting this, but i think they said you know due to the school shootings that's transpired if it if it continues to happen uncle ocho i think they're gonna start charging these parents bro what these kids do yeah yeah that's tough but you know we don't have no privacy it was like don't why are you in my room get out of my room what are you doing like that and what your room is in my house and i go anywhere i want to
1:00:33Joe Johnson:Hey, man, listen, Joe, you talking about closing the door, Uncle Joe? In their house, under their roof? Man, they take that damn door off the hinges. Man, don't play with me in my house.
1:00:43Shannon Sharpe:Slam the door. They can't be slamming the door in the house. Oh, please. Yeah. I wish my kids would have slammed one door. Hey, yeah. Hold on, hold on. I done seen some in the mall and grocery store acts. I'm talking about my kids throwing temper tantrums all over the floor. I'm thinking to myself, like, ain't no way. Ain't no damn way. I shut down. Where am I saying I shut down on him?
1:01:07Joe Johnson:My grandma right there. Wherever you show out, that's exactly when you get woe out.
1:01:12Shannon Sharpe:On the spot. Hey, that's when they start talking to you with their teeth together. Get you. Yeah, hell yeah. They're ventriloquists. You know what they say? And you understand every word they saying. Everything. Yeah, yeah. uh we are black people could uh invented being a ventriloquist they've been talking without moving their mouth hey hey hold on she could do it from across the room to me okay ocho if i would do it her man you know exactly what that meant you know i remember them me and my brother be playing the church we'd be playing the church my grandma but look over there I start crying.
1:02:00Joe Johnson:You ain't got to say nothing, huh?
1:02:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I already know. Because you know we had to sit on the front row, Joe. We had to sit. We couldn't sit past the second row. If the first row was taken, you had to get on that second row. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And most of the time, we done so early, so we're going to be on the front row. And my grandma can see everything because she on the second row. Yeah. And the Deaconess corner. Yeah. My grandfather was on the front row in the Deacon corner. He might be over there asleep. Granny don't miss a beat.
1:02:36Shannon Sharpe:Miles Garrett is ranked number one in the 2026 top NFL ranking, 100 rankings. Garrett set a single-season sack record with a 23 sack total, won his second AP defensive player of the year. Prior to this, the last defensive player to claim the number one spot, the top 100, was his teammate, Aaron Donald, in 2019. The top 10 goes as follows. Josh Allen was number two. B. John Robinson was number three. Matthew Stafford, number four. Jackson Smith and Jigba, number five. Christian McCaffrey, number six. Puka Nakua, number seven. Micah Parsons, number eight. Jameer Gibbs, number nine. And Pat Sertan II is number 10.
1:03:16Shannon Sharpe:Joe, Ocho, did they get this right? Hold on. This is the top 100 football players of the 2026 season? This is the top 100 players in the 2025, but the ranking comes out in 2026. So, basically, these are the top 100 players in the NFL currently. As we speak, these are the top 100 as voted on by the players.
1:03:38Joe Johnson:I mean, based on what's up there, you really can't go wrong, honestly. You can make your argument. You know, there might be some players that belong in the top 10 that might not be on there that had okay seasons last year. But I can't argue with this, Uncle Joe. You would have to – I mean, you really can't. So I think some people probably nitpick in the order that they have them in. I mean, just everybody's worthy of being exactly who they are. Some people are too high. Some people may say some people are too low. And those that do say that, they will probably be fans, you know, or fans of that specific team or player.
1:04:18Shannon Sharpe:The Rams, think about it. The Rams have three of the top. Rams have three of the top seven. Rams got three of the top seven players in the NFL. And then they brought Aaron Donald back. See, the people got messed up. See, there's no player. Quarterbacks, they're not, they're saying best player, not most valuable. Value and best are two different things. We understand the quarterback touches the ball every play. His value is unsurpassed. But just because his value is unsurpassed, that doesn't mean he's the best. I don't have a problem with Miles Garrett. Think about it. On a losing team, they're behind.
1:05:04Shannon Sharpe:This man got 23 sacks. Now, if he was on the Rams, if he was on Seattle, he was on one of these teams that score a lot, their offense is forcing the opposing team in a lot of passing situations because they're behind you might have me but when you win four, five, six games and you're behind 85, 90 % of the time and you still can jump off the rock and get 23 sacks what? Crazy crazy
1:05:39Joe Johnson:come on now I would love to sit in the room and hear football fans debate this list, especially the top ten. And, boy, they will dissect everything, you know, to have their player in the top five or top three. Or they'll say some of them belong. I know Eagles fans will say Jalen Hurts belongs in there because he's a winner. They'll say there's no reason Josh Allen should be that high. I mean, just –
1:06:03Shannon Sharpe:Josh Allen is the only man that got that many passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns. This man is going to rush for 100 touchdowns and probably throw for 300 touchdowns. He's going to do something that probably nobody else. I mean, I didn't see this out of Josh Allen. I thought he was good. He's six, five and a half, 250 pounds, can run. Got a laser for an arm, which you need up in Buffalo. I think they're indoors now, Ocho, so it's not his arm strength. It's not going to be needed as much, but it's still New England is open. Jets, it's open. Miami is, you know, you might get some rain, but you're not going to get no hellacious weather other than rain.
1:06:38Shannon Sharpe:But I don't have a problem with the list. I think the list is, look, Ocho, I don't know how y 'all do it, Joe, but Ocho and I can tell you. When it comes to voting, everybody doesn't vote. Everybody, because you're asking people to vote, man, they trying to get out of there. They've been over there all day. They've been over there all day. Man, I got to get home. I got stuff I got to do. I got to do something for the wife. I got my mom. I got my dad. I got brother, sister. I got somebody coming, my girl coming to town. Hey, go ahead and vote for me, Ocho. Whatever you say, hey, I'm good. Joe, go ahead and vote for me, man.
1:07:08Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. the guys don't take it serious no no no yeah I remember I remember when the players could vote in the NBA you know we've been we was a part of it uh I'm gonna be honest with you I never took it lightly on an Ocho uh you know I just always you know obviously gave gave everybody they just do when needed I wouldn't want to excuse me I wasn't one of those guys who who took that stuff for granted. You know what I mean? Because I know how hard guys prepare. I know how hard they work in the summer to keep their bodies in shape and to come in and dominate throughout an 82-game season. That's challenging, bro.
1:07:47Shannon Sharpe:That's challenging, but I can see why they took it away because you got all these guys who be clicked up and they vote for their homeboys and they did. So, you had to make way with that. That's the thing, Joe. Me, I might not even like a guy, but it's a guy I based it down with. I like you or not. I based it on how well you played on the field. When I look at you, whether I played you or not, when I took you off on tape, because... Oh. You got an Amber Alert over there. Amber Alert? Oh. Oh, that's on the TV. Because I was like, hey, my phone ain't... Hey, yeah. Based on what I took off on tape, and if I played the guy, There are some guys that they had all these names.
1:08:34Shannon Sharpe:I didn't see what they were talking about. I can't vote for you. Just because you got hype, you got a name. I didn't think you played that way. Maybe that was an off game. I can just base it on that.
1:08:49Shannon Sharpe:But I took it serious. I really did. And hopefully people took it serious when they voted for me or they didn't vote for me. It's like, hey, man, he ain't played that well against us. He didn't block well. He didn't catch well. I'm okay with that. But I don't have a problem with this because I thought Miles Garrett. Normally guys that have the sack total like this, they have an offense that can put pressure on the opposing offense and you got to play catch up. Ain't nobody – clearly they had no lead. The biggest lead they might have had was 7-0 in the first drive. Other than that, Joe, they're not playing with a lead.
1:09:24Shannon Sharpe:And this man got 23 sacks with the constant double team that he's dealing with? they losing games by 21 points and this man got three, four sacks. How is that even possible? I totally understand what you're saying. I think with the season Miles Garrett had last season, Uncle Ocho, do y 'all think he's still going to be as great as he was in Cleveland? Although, you know, they weren't playing meaningful basketball. Now with the Rams, hell, they want Super Bowl. They want it and they build it. You know, this is going to be a pretty intense season for them. Do y 'all still see him dominating the way he did last year?
1:10:01Joe Johnson:I do. Let me tell you why, Joe. No, no, no. I don't think he falls that back up. But not to that magnitude. I don't think so.
1:10:10Shannon Sharpe:The thing it is, Joe, people don't realize how hard it is to stay motivated when you lose it. Yeah. That is the hardest thing to do. To know when you go out there on the field, no matter how well I play, Ocho, the man had five sacks, they lose by 21. The men have three sacks, they lose by 17. How hard is it for you? Joe, you go out there and you're scoring 35 a night, and you're losing by 20. It's hard to stay motivated. It's hard. What am I playing for other than for selfish reasons? I play a team sport. My individual accolades, yes, they'll get acknowledged, but everybody's going to say, well, hey, and this was my argument to trade them, Ocho.
1:10:54Shannon Sharpe:I said, Ocho, they're finishing their last place. they can finish there without him. You're not a Miles Garrett away. The Rams believe they're a Miles Garrett away from winning a championship. Cleveland wasn't a Miles Garrett away. They needed another Miles Garrett and two or three Miles Garrett on offense. Tight players, not Miles Garrett, but Miles Garrett tight players on offense to be able to compete for a championship. So I get it. For him to stay as motivated and as hungry as he was and to put up the numbers that he did. I think now with something to play for every single week and the expectations that are placed on him, this is what he wanted.
1:11:34Shannon Sharpe:He said he wanted to compete for a championship. Well, go compete for a championship.
1:11:40Joe Johnson:I'll tell you this right now, Joe. He might not get 23 sacks, but I could book it. Give him 17, 18, boy.
1:11:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I was going to say he's going to get at least 14.
1:11:54Joe Johnson:If he get off to a fast start, like, you know, that first five weeks and you in a, you know, five or six range, you get off to a jump, man, man, listen.
1:12:06Shannon Sharpe:His thing is that he get a bunch of sacks and he gets sacks and bunches. He'll go three, three, four. And next thing you know, you're like, man, they ain't played before games. He got 10 sacks already.
1:12:19Joe Johnson:He got off to one of them stars. And he very well just might get off to a fast like that.
1:12:26Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Josh Allen, number two, phenomenal. He didn't play well in Denver. And we beat him up. We said he didn't play well. The careless turnover right before the half, he fumbles the ball. That led to a field goal. He had a guy wide open in overtime that would have won them the game. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Was that overtime or regulation? It might have been regulation because it ended up selling for a field goal. So it might have been regulation that possibly would have won them the game. He didn't play well. He did not play well that game. And Ocho and I, we came on that night and said he didn't play well that night.
1:13:05Shannon Sharpe:He's got to play better in those type of moments. Football is not guys play. Nobody, no quarterback has played great the entirety of the game. But those moments, it's moments that we remember Tom Brady. It's moments that we remember Joe Montana. It's moments that we remember Tom Brady and John Elway. It's moments. Yes, Jordan turned the ball over. But what about those moments when he needed to be Mike? He was. When Kobe needed to be Kobe, he was. That's the difference. In the moments, when the moments call you to be your absolute best, can and will you be that? Josh Allen was that. B. John Robinson, what do we say?
1:13:53Shannon Sharpe:I mean, what do we say?
1:13:55Joe Johnson:Ain't nobody arguing that.
1:13:56Shannon Sharpe:You can't.
1:13:57Joe Johnson:What do we say? You can't argue that one.
1:14:00Shannon Sharpe:That boy, dog.
1:14:02Joe Johnson:He nice, Joe. Premier. He nice.
1:14:05Shannon Sharpe:He is nice. Matthew Stafford. Hey, you could have easily had Matthew Stafford, who number one. Led the league in passing yards. Led the league in passing touchdowns. What was he? 40 plus, 40 plus touchdowns, eight interceptions.
1:14:24Shannon Sharpe:JSN, led the league and receiving yardage. Run extra, hey, it's like he's gliding. I mean, he ain't nothing. He's not in a hurry. Everything looks the same. You don't know if he's breaking out, breaking in. He's staying up the scene. He's running the seven. He's running the sale. He's stopping. Everything is just, he's just so effortless. It's just like. He's nice. He's nice.
1:14:50Shannon Sharpe:everything is at that same pace Christian McCaffrey can do it all you run between the tackles for a guy his size running between the tackles can catch it out of the backfield he'd have been an outstanding slot receiver if he couldn't do anything but play the slot can run roster like a wide receiver Puka Nakua Puka missed a couple of games and still led the league in receptions
1:15:18Shannon Sharpe:Micah what do we say about Micah? You saw the flashes and why Green Bay gave up what they gave up to get him and then turned around and gave him the big contract.
1:15:28Joe Johnson:Hold on, didn't he have double digit sacks before he even got hurt?
1:15:32Shannon Sharpe:Yes, yes. He's about to have more double digit sacks. Is he going to be ready to start the season or not? No. He's going to miss the first four games. Missed him before four games. Jameer Gibbs.
1:15:47Joe Johnson:Boy, he can go well. If you mess around and take the wrong angle you want to, he get past that second level. You might as well strike up the bend.
1:15:55Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, he run out from under an angle. He definitely can run out from under an angle. Strike up the bend. And what do we say about Pat Sartan? He's just the premier corner in football. He's the standard.
1:16:08Joe Johnson:I mean, he can't stop me, but he's the standard.
1:16:12Shannon Sharpe:I mean, 6 '3", 200 pounds, great. I mean, technically sound. Yeah. When you think of him, you think technique. Yeah. Fundamentally, he's fundamentally sound. He has no blimishes. Nice. Very fluid. For a guy his size to be able to open his hips like he does, Joe, and turn and take off, decelerate and get out of break, get downhill to come back down. To sit down and make a mistake, he can get it to the house, I like this top ten. I think they did a great job. I think they did a great job of selecting the top ten. So whoever voted, obviously there have only been three defensive guys that's ever been voted number one.
1:16:58Shannon Sharpe:J.J. Watt was the first to do it in 2015. Aaron Donald did it in 2019. And now that just goes to show you how dominant they were in the season in which they got it. because this is football now is an offensive game, Ocho. Everybody pay no attention. Because the guy's putting up gaudy numbers. Guys getting 129, 130, 1 ,700, 1 ,800 yards. Guys rushing for 2 ,000. It's just the numbers that the guys are putting up offensively. It's just hard for the defense to keep up. Yeah. But I don't have a problem. I do not have a problem with this list. I think this list is very well done. I think Myles Garrett was very, very deserving.
1:17:38Shannon Sharpe:of that. So, the number one player voted on by the players is Miles Garrett. Josh Allen was second. Number two, B. John Robinson, Matthew Stafford, JSN, C. Matt, Puka Nakua, Micah, Jameer Gibbs, Pat Sertan, the second. The Rams put three guys in the top seven. Number one, number four, and number seven, Puka Nakua. Wow.
