In short
Nightcap Hour 1 reaction to the Chargers’ 27-21 win over the Chiefs in Brazil, plus X’s and O’s critique of Kansas City’s offensive/defensive issues and a discussion of Micah Parsons’ comments about his former Cowboys teammates.
Guests (hosts)
Shannon Sharpe (“on Shannon Sharpe,” Bengals Ring of Fame honoree, former NFL player) and Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson (Pro Bowl/All-Pro, former NFL receiver). A “special guest” is teased but not named in the provided transcript.
Key claims
- Justin Herbert’s performance (25/34, 318 yards, 3 TDs) and a key scramble/drive were central to the Chargers’ win.
- Chiefs need to run the football better; Mahomes rushing yards can’t be relied on.
- Kansas City’s pass rush couldn’t generate pressure on Herbert unless blitzing.
- Chiefs’ offense had early execution problems, including a Kelsey injury on a crossing route and Hollywood Brown dropping a stop-route opportunity.
- Micah Parsons’ remarks are read as a veiled dig at former Cowboys locker-room camaraderie.
Notable examples
- Derwin James and Khalil Mack making key plays for the Chargers.
- Ocho’s breakdown of coverage leverage and how Chiefs’ scheme left vulnerabilities (flat/back-pylon).

We got a special guest joining us in a bit. Ghostface Killer, but first Ocho, in a game in Brazil, the Chargers take down the Kansas City Chiefs by the score of 27-21. This is the reason what you saw tonight is that why Justin Herbert is held in such high regards 25 of 34 318 three touchdowns and the game ceiling drive in which he took off and run after Chris Jones and we saw the two guys getting it on the sideline Tranquil said that's not your responsibility you got outside rush you tried to cross the guy's face you got washed down when you know there's nobody there's no support over there that's why he was going at Chris Jones that is not your responsibility to go inside if that guy starts up the middle and then gets outside, ain't nothing you can do, CJ.
7:56Shannon Sharpe:But that's why he and Trey Kuhl was getting it on the sideline. He's like, do your job. That's not your job. Do your job. But the Chiefs go on the road in Brazil and they win a ball game 27-21. It's been a long time since the Chiefs have lost a one-score game. But Ocho, I saw some things tonight that I don't like of what I'm seeing with the Chiefs. Offensively, I think they'll be okay. They need to be able to run the football better. Yeah. I mean, they can't run the football. Those scrambles by Mahomes, I can't count on Mahomes to give me 57 yards rushing the game, Mocho. Right. But watching this game, looking after the Chargers, they did win.
8:33Shannon Sharpe:They took down the three-time defending AFC champs. Yes. And they did it in fine fashion. What did you like about what you saw from the Chargers? Listen, the first thing about the Chargers that I did like, I liked what Justin Herbert did. Listen, the game was a little sloppy in the beginning, Unk, but as the game went on, the Chargers offense played extremely well. Again, another thing, my favorite receiver, one of my favorite receivers in the NFL is Ladarius McConkie. Ladarius McConkie looked extremely well. He's picking up exactly where he left off last year. Yes. The addition of Keenan Allen and Quentin Johnston.
9:07If we can get Quentin Johnston to be a little bit more consistent, and catching the ball and try to eliminate some of the drops that he had last year, they are going to be all right because that defense, they was flying all over the place. They made some great plays. Derwin James with Derwin James. Khalil Mack also contributed in some important areas as well on certain down and distances, and they looked good. I thought the Chiefs had an opportunity to come back. I actually thought they were going to come back when they decided to go towards the end of the game and chose to allow Spags and that defense to take over from there.
9:40But it was sloppy first half, but that's really good.
9:45Shannon Sharpe:I'm watching. I don't know what Kelsey was thinking on that drive route. He watches. What's Derwin James? He does this. I see a DB does that. He's telling me it's man coverage. He's telling me they're locking it. Yeah. Yeah. He tells me he does this. And that's why my home was like, what are you doing? And he knew it at the end. It's like, bro, you got to keep going. That's what you call a drive, a shallow cross, but whatever the case may be, he's a man coverage. All they got to do is if he keeps running, the ball's going to hit him on the hands. He turns up. It's a touchdown. Now, look, we don't know.
10:22Shannon Sharpe:I mean, now possibly maybe they're onside it. They got their timeouts. Maybe they do what they did. But if Chris Jones takes that same angle, we're going to get the same result. We'll never know. But there were some mistakes that were made that you can't have. I mean, the first play of the game, you got two guys running crossing route. And somehow Kelsey picks his own guy and looks like he's separated his shoulder or sprains his shoulder. I'm like, damn. How many times have you... How many times have you run crossing routes? I've never, in 14 years of running crossing routes, I've run the shallow cross, run the drive.
10:56Shannon Sharpe:I'm the picker, and sometimes they're picking for me. I've never collided with my own guy. Listen, it's all about... Understand, it's all about spacing. Knowing where your depth is supposed to be. If you have somebody pressing you, which I think might have been the problem, whoever was pressing, either threw Kelsey off his line which is why they ran into other but also if it's man the man you got to have your eye line you got to have your eye line up in front to see what's in front of you anyway so i'm not sure i'm not sure how that happened oh joe plus the fact is it's already understood one of you are high the other is low one of you guys one of you guys are three to five the other guy five to seven i don't know who's supposed to be high i don't know who's supposed to be low you can see you You can see Xavier Worthy was low.
11:41So that means Kelsey was supposed to be 5-7.
11:45Shannon Sharpe:I don't get it. I don't know. I don't. And like I said, I'm like, damn, guys, that's probably a precursor of things to come. Because, hold on, Ocho. Now, how many times? That's the first 15. We done talked about that. We had that at walkthrough. We discussed it last night before the game. Hey, we talked about it. Hey, everybody like these plays coming out? and damn, the first third down, this is what we get. You know what? That's the funny thing. When you talk about X and O, the way it's written on paper and coaches want to look a certain way, but they don't take into account. When you have a defense out there, you have a person pushing and tugging you, certain things have to adjust.
12:24So Kelsey, if anything, if you got a man playing you man-to-man, go an extra yard. Maybe go two and that doesn't happen.
12:32Shannon Sharpe:Hey, press me and I'm supposed to be the low guy? I run in the line of scrimmage. I'll be behind the line of scrimmage. Hey, I'm not going to pick your ass off. Oh, Joe, I'm not going to collide with my own guy. I've done it. They were like, well, damn, you should have just took the ball out of John's hand. I'm like, well, hey, he was fighting, pushing, tugging, and I'm not going to let him throw the timing of the rod off by pressing me and causing me to either gain depth. No, I already know I'm the low guy. And so it might be a situation. Look, I'm the low guy. Yeah. And I got a pick for the high guy.
13:13Shannon Sharpe:Yes, sir. Okay. It is what it is. But the timing must be the timing, Ocho. But I'm not going to run into my own guy. That's what I'm not going to do. I'm not running into my own guy. Now, I might run into the other guy and they call me for an illegal pick, but I'm not picking my own damn guy. And hold on. Not only did you pick him, he got hurt. And as soon as you got hurt, obviously, when you're running that cross like that, Unc, and you're looking back at the quarterback, your body's relaxed. Yes. Your body's relaxed. So anything that hits, especially that shoulder, the first thing I said, that's either a grade two or grade three AC sprain right away.
13:46When he didn't come back in the game, because grade one, oh, you good. Grade one, you coming back in the game. But he missed the whole game after that. I said, you got to be grade two or grade three.
13:54Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, how much shoulder strength do you think he got? He'll buck 60. So think about that, Ocho. he weighs 160 pounds yes sir he ain't got no he ain't got no shoulder and it doesn't take a whole lot to mess a shoulder up anyway especially when you don't have the muscle development right in that area yeah especially when you're not looking up and your body body relax and just something hits you like that you ain't because you don't get chance to tense up yes bingo bingo so a lot a lot of times if we know until we're going across the middle we're gonna catch a pass yeah i get a chance to brace but when i'm catching the pass and i'm relaxed yeah and i got it it hurts that much more hell yeah people need to understand when they see certain hits like that when you know it's coming you're able to brace it doesn't hurt no matter what like it's the ones you don't see coming yes ready for it that gets you the worst yeah i i just look they got off to a bad start hollywood brown had an opportunity to get a first down on the second and he dropped it yeah I don't, Ocho.
14:56Oh, you talk about on the stop route. The second drive of the game. The stop route. Well, the deep. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Oh, he took his ass off the ball. He trying to get up out of there before he.
15:06Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, when you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews, or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. Like the time when I had the last minute trip to Denver and everything came together fast. 18:36Shannon Sharpe:I really prided myself understanding how the game was going. Okay, the first drive, Ocho, we got off the field in three plays. Yes, sir. The last thing I want to do is do a three and out. So I might just catch the ball and just drop because the most important thing is to stay on the field so we can get timing as an offense. Guys don't understand. They still try, oh, let me bail up out of here. Well, now you just went two three and outs. And now, guess what? you're going to be further out of rhythm because it's going to be longer before you get back on the field guys need to understand i saw thornton he's running he go look understand the angle in which the guy's coming down if he's coming down on a he ain't chasing you like this he's coming down on an angle like that so if you try to cut back he hit you even though you're right there the sticks your momentum you got no momentum to go forward you're gonna go back i'm like guys Y 'all don't think.
19:25Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all guys don't really think no more. Ain't no way you're thinking. You got to understand the angle in which he's coming. If I get it, Ocho, he's coming like this, I stop, cut back, go behind you. But when he's coming down, you stop. You got no momentum. His momentum is going to hit you and push you backwards. Every time. If anything, especially in that situation, you got to know, as a receiver or a tight end, anybody catching the ball in that situation, it's third down. Yes. Third down. You just catch that and turn straight up field. Right. I'm talking about right away. Yes. Play another down instead of allowing to be four down and it being a 50 50 chance and whether y 'all get it or not to keep that drive going.
20:05I think the thing is sometimes, Ocho, is that guys, they don't really think about that.
20:12Shannon Sharpe:Every play is not meant to be a big play. Every play is not meant to be a touchdown. You have to understand momentum. You have to understand where you are in the game, time of the game, what's it been like. Because there are a lot of times that maybe, because sometimes you got to do stuff suddenly to get up out of there. suddenly means taking your eyes off the ball and trying to locate the guy. Because a lot of times, I mean, I've seen myself, I'm doing this, Ocho. Hey, the ball should be right there, and I'm seeing where everybody's coming because I want to do something. Yeah. Well, you can't do anything without the ball.
20:50No, not at all.

20:51Shannon Sharpe:But it was things like that. But Ocho, they're going to have to run. They're going to have Kansas City is going to have to do more of a concerted effort to run the football. I got a question. I'm glad you just said that. When you think about the Kansas City Chiefs, right? As Pacheco has been in the past, when have the Chiefs actually ever had a running game, though? When have you actually watched the Chiefs play and been like, you know what? We got to worry about the running game. You remember when they had Kareem Hunt? Oh, before he left, the first time. Yes. But you know who else they had? Well, they hadn't had so much of a running game with Andy.
21:28Shannon Sharpe:because I don't think Jamal Charles was there with Andy. I think Jamal Charles was there. I don't remember. But they got to run the football. They put a lot of pressure, and the thing was tonight defensively, they couldn't get pressure on Herbert unless they blitzed. Tranquil got him twice. Koloftas got him early in the game when he tried to climb up in the pocket, and Kaloftas fell back inside and got him. But they couldn't get pressure generating four. So now, and it seems like when they bring pressure, it's like, guys, Nick, is it Hicks? What number? 27. Is it Hicks? Hold on. Because I know he made a bunch of, yeah, Hicks.
22:16Shannon Sharpe:Bro, bro, you got to be better. Yeah. You got to be better. You got to be better. the guy is screaming at you you got no help to the seven and you turn like he's going to run a post it just crosses your face
22:38hey it's scary on that island like that you know that huh it's scary on that island most of the time when you're in a situation like that you're going for the first move you're going for the first move because you got to understand the speed of the game us watching is different out there actually playing it and you ain't got no help. So whatever you see first, you're getting up out of there. You're getting up out of there right away.
23:03Shannon Sharpe:The thing is, if he did something different on tape, okay, so what is he showing us on tape? Because that's all I can base it on, Ocho. That's all I can base it on. They give us something different. I'm going to come to the sideline. Coach, this is what they did. I know what we practiced. I know what we went over. I know what they show. This is what they showed us on tape. This is what we said we were going to do against them on tape. This is what they're doing. Right. Okay, fine. So that's what we're going to have. That's what we don't know. We don't know. But they run the inside because all it's so they run, they run the hot, they run the high low.
23:45Shannon Sharpe:So basically you got McConkie. He studied, he gets to the flat right now. Now Keenan Allen, he goes to the high seven. Yep. one of two things gonna have to happen if you're gonna have to pass that off by McDuffie retreating because he's up on Lamb McConkie because that's all I'm trying to do I'm just trying to hold outside guy because you got me and you're playing inside leverage so you cannot stop the seven route you cannot stop the flag you can't because you're playing inside leverage so you've already given me the outside the only way you can stop it the only way you stop that right Ocho is that mcduffie falls off yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah but then and then i've heard and then i'm gonna throw the ball i'm gonna throw the ball so you got you got it really time you got to say you know what i believe he's gonna throw this just seven ball and i just fall right now but if he throws it if he throws it to the flat right that's gonna be a first down or or or if anything i mean i'm just saying obviously i don't play db and obviously you have to stay within the scheme of the of the way yes yes those things what i would do i would communicate i would communicate before, when I see that tendency, when I see that formation, I know it's coming.
24:55We got that post and we got that flat coming, right? I'm going to tell the safety, man, listen, I'm from the jump lab right now. The seven coming behind me, go ahead and cheat it.
25:04Shannon Sharpe:Go ahead. You know what? I'm passing it off, Ocho. Say, this is how we're going to do it. Higgs, you take the flat, I'm going to say. Now, I got a safety in the hole because if he runs the post, the safety is there. The only thing that I'm weak against is the backside the back pylon. So now, McDuffie is going to have to retreat. Right away. And now, Hicks got to go to the flat right now. He's got to go. He's got to take the flat right now. Right now, yeah. He's got to come down right now. That is the only way you can stop that route because you got two. One's running like a little stick, what they call a stick route, and the other is running a seven route or sail route.
25:42Shannon Sharpe:You can't stop it. Because if you play a man, he's going to like, and McCocky is going to occupy McDuffie. Right away. Hicks is playing inside leverage. So anything that I run to the outside, I'm free and clear. You can't stop it. The funny thing about it is you can't stop it, but I'm thinking in knowing this coming as a safety, I don't even know if he has the freedom to do this because when they turn that film on, they're going to want you inside leverage. Yes. At what? What? Maybe 9 to 10? The safety? Yeah. It looked like it was man coverage so they probably just had single high safety so he's in the hole oh down yeah no no no he's he's he's in the hole he's looking for you know okay maybe maybe maybe if it's a cross around he's gonna jump it but he's in the hole there's really nothing he can do right so now because hicks is playing on he's playing inside leverage because you know why ocho i gotta worry about the shallow cross right if you run the it's kind of if i jump outside he run the shallow cross i'm dead i mean it's for shape yes yeah i'm dead so now i'm inside leverage now i'm worried i ain't worried about him beating me across my face but what i've done is that i've given him a free release to the back pylon yeah and hey listen that's unfortunate that's unfortunate because obviously what you're doing is you're giving them one get a one-way go you're trying to stay the inside but now you're vulnerable to the outside correct vulnerable and if he if he stick you to the inside you really done because you're gonna go for the first move correct yep so uh you know give them credit but i thought the charges played really well they're gonna be they're gonna be tough uh uh herbert threw the ball extremely well tonight um we we look he has physical he has physical tools a big kid six five uh two third two forty mobile he's mobile you see the athleticism i mean he's shown the athleticism we watched him in in the, was that the Rose Bowl?
27:42Shannon Sharpe:I think his final year. And he did what he did. I didn't know he had that kind of athleticism. And he doesn't show it a whole lot, but he got better. He's above, he's an above average athlete. So which tells me he got, he can get out of harm's way if he needs to. We know the arm that we know the arm talent. Yeah. We can't deny that. You can say he ain't won nothing, but we can't deny the arm talent. And the thing is, Ocho, there are two things that play here. Two things can be true. You could be a generational talent and not a generational player. You could be a generational player without generational talent.
28:19Shannon Sharpe:See, I think sometimes you got to have both. No, you don't. No, you don't. No, you don't. Yeah, I like that. And Brady and Manning might not be generational talent, but you can't argue they're generational players. Right, right. So the things that we can see, what we measure, Ocho, man, look at his arm strength. Man, look how big he is. Man, look how fast he is, Ocho. Look how athletic he is. Okay, those are things that we can see. But we've seen guys that had tremendous God-gifted ability. Yes, sir. Not turn out to be generational players. Right. Or not be even good players or great players. So two things can be true.
29:01Shannon Sharpe:You can be a generational talent and not a generational player. You can be a generational player without generational talent. Right. and uh but you look at build a quarterback you look at golly that dude's six four six five 235 240. yeah bro he can throw bro he throw the out he can throw the dig he can throw the comeback he can throw the over he can throw the seven he can throw the bang oh he can throw the shake
29:39Shannon Sharpe:hold on he can get out of harm's way he can throw the ball on the move left right what is there not to like about it what we saw from Herbert the nightgum is what we've seen since he's gotten in the league the problem with him he puts up big numbers the problem is the turnovers and decision making when it matters most that's when we get to playoffs he needs to do this in a playoff game that's the hard part because the playoff game is nothing like a week one that's the difference when there is finality because guess what whoever lost this game, guess what Ocho they got 16 more whoever won this game, they got 16 more but come playoff time it ain't the best of 5 it's not the best of 7 every game in the NFL is a game 7 So if you think game seven of the NBA finals or the NBA playoffs or the MLB playoffs or hockey playoffs, you think that's something?
30:43Shannon Sharpe:That's what an NFL player go through every playoff game. It is a game seven. Yeah. There is no tomorrow. Yeah. And you know what's funny? It's only three game sevens, too. It's only three game sevens to the big dance unless you've got a week one bye. Yeah. It's – like I said, Ocho, I kind of wanted Kansas City to score to see how they were going to play it. Maybe they do the same thing, Ocho. Maybe they kick the ball deep. They got their time out. They got the two-minute warning. They try to hold them. Maybe they own – we won't ever know because, you know, they didn't get an opportunity. Defense didn't get off the field.
31:25Shannon Sharpe:but I think we the Chargers deserve credit I thought Mahomes once he got it going I mean he had to be I mean come on Ocho the man's parallel to the guy and he throws it over his head and Juju catches it I mean when you go back and look at it Ocho think about it Juju the Steelers moved on the Patriots moved on Tyquan Thornton ran 4-2 at the combine the Patriots says nah Kareem Hunt is a comeback, came back. Hollywood Brown, the Ravens traded him. The Cardinals said, now we good. I mean, think about it. It's hard, Ocho, to keep winning with castoffs. And look, they're okay players. But it is what it is, Ocho.
32:19Shannon Sharpe:Somebody said, you know what, we good. We're better without you. Well, listen, you also have to understand there's always somebody else coming behind you that wants your job. There are also other people that come behind you that take your job where they fit the system better. They just fit the system better. So for Mahomes, Mahomes is a tier one quarterback. He's one where the people around him don't matter. I view Patrick Mahomes the same way I view Tom Brady when he was with the New England Patriots. The pieces to the puzzle with the Patriots offensively, they change differently every year. Every year there was somebody else.
32:54Plug in and play. Plug in and play, but nothing changed. They remained consistent offensively. Why? Because that centerpiece, that one piece that mattered, that was 12. So I really view the Kansas City Chiefs that way. Tyreek Hill is gone. Since Tyreek Hill, it's been a multitude of different players, different receivers, and they haven't missed a beat. They haven't missed a beat. And even though they didn't play up the par tonight in week one, Andy Reid going to figure it out. I'm more concerned with the defense. You think so? I am. Spagg will add them boys on point. Because, Ocho, they couldn't get pressure.
33:30Shannon Sharpe:Without bringing pressure, they couldn't get pressure. And now, if I bring pressure, what must I do? I must sacrifice my back end because that's what would single high. Somewhere. Somewhere on the back end. I got to sacrifice something, Ocho. Right. If I make X amount of dollars, something's not going to get paid this month. Yeah, I'm just saying, Ocho. what's not gonna get paid? The cell phone bill? Yeah. The cable bill? Light bill? Gas bill? But something because I only have X amount of dollars. I only have so much money to stretch. I can only stretch it so far. Right. So as my grandma said, I'll send you a little piece of something, son.
34:11Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's all I got.
34:17Shannon Sharpe:I like CJ more on the inside As I do it Because he doesn't have an advantage Out there He's extremely quick For a guard But he's not quick for an end
34:36So he doesn't gain
34:37Shannon Sharpe:An advantage There are some guys that he might be able to beat but when he's in that when he's in that shade when he's in the under he's that three tech that's why i like that's why i like cj i i think you know what i i like that that he does do it because you can never know where he's going to be you have to account for him you have to account for him and it's confusing to the offensive lineman because you have you always have when you come to the line before the snap you always got to see where is 95 at let's identify 95 i I think that's why they move him so much because he's able to do so much more and he doesn't have to deal with that double team all the damn time.
35:15Shannon Sharpe:Well, I like him more in a five or seven as opposed to a nine. Now, they want him to get him wide because they want to get him on the edges. Right. They don't want to chip. But he doesn't get – if he's playing against like Ault did a great job of neutralizing. Yeah. But you've got to realize those guys out there are really athletic. Yeah, very. The advantage that you have is that when you don't have the athleticism, and they normally bump you down inside to the guard. Those tackles are really athletic. Those are guys that were tight ends that played a lot of other positions. Right, right, right.
35:45Shannon Sharpe:When they were smaller, they weren't always that size, and they probably played – maybe they were a tight end or maybe they were a basketball player at one point in time that just grew out of that. Yeah. But I think Kansas City's offense is going to be fine. I'm sure Andy will find a way to get up out of this. But the AFC West has gotten better. Denver is better. the charges are better we'll see what the rate we'll see what the rate is gonna be whoa whoa whoa whoa slow down slow down slow down you don't know if the broncos have gotten better because they haven't played week one yet the broncos have gotten better it's hard it's hard for me to see a scenario right based on uh um the court the court uh sean payton yes sean payton quarterbacks don't normally regress right they don't now it could happen have a side but he's not a guy that's going to let you regress because he's going to ride you sean payton is old school guy he learned on the park sales yeah and they go they ride you i have a question yes who do the denver broncos play week one the titans
36:57Shannon Sharpe:yeah they play they play the titans in them and uh play the titans in mile high hey boy i don't know Calvin Ridley and Cam Ward Calvin Ridley and Cam Ward It's hard to throw the ball when you're on your back The Broncos led the league in sacks last year Wait, what year was that? Last year Yeah, it's 2025, dog But see, but you told me You said New England You told me Philly had nothing to worry about Same personnel That's what you told me Well, actually, I said defensively They had some to worry about Because they let Slay go They let Slay go And they let, I forgot the young boy That played defensively What about the guy that was calling the plays?
37:35Oh, that's right. Hey, I guarantee you, I don't know who the Eagles play next. Oh, they play the Chiefs. Yes, next Sunday. I guarantee the first 15, you know the first 15 plays are scripted?
37:48Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I guarantee you three of those plays are specifically for A.J. Brown. I guarantee you the first play going right to him. Well, I'm looking at – That's ridiculous. even though they won the game even though they won the game you can't do your star player like that you can't you just can't i'm looking at justin herbert and they're like okay we can throw the ball
38:15yeah yeah i mean aj brown is better than quentin johnson let me tell you why they can't throw the
38:19Shannon Sharpe:ball as well did you see a marion hampton yeah you see okay rookie i mean look look he not look they ran the ball 25 times for 90 yards yeah that's nothing that that ain't that i i look i mean that's that's the four yards of care yeah that's the problem that's a good balance though huh it's a good balance but here's the thing ocho if you can't pressure without if you couldn't get pressure with the chargers offensive line what makes you think you'll get pressure with the eagles offensive line they got the two number one rated tackles in football yeah you're right
38:54Shannon Sharpe:now you bring pressure you open up your back end i think the back end is weak i don't think i don't i don't think the kansas city chiefs uh secondary is like oh my god we can't do hey hold on but the kansas city secondary normally plays two shell in cover two or 55 one or the other right so everything has everything most of the time your success it's gonna have to come from the run game and force them to drop the safety down, which they had to do when they played the Eagles in the Super Bowl, to make sure Saquon Barkley is not beating them. They did something they don't normally do. Outside of that, two shell, bump and run on the outside, throw off the timing, and whoever's in the slot, or number three, or tight end, you got the win.
39:39You got the win because that's where the one-on-one is.
39:43Shannon Sharpe:So it's going to be interesting to see. That's a big game next week, obviously. Chiefs, I mean, when was the last time the Chiefs started 0-2?
39:56Shannon Sharpe:I don't think they started 0-2 in the Mahomes era. No, probably not. Absolutely not. That's going to be a good game, though. That's going to be a very, very good game. Rematch of the Super Bowl, that's going to be a nice one. They hadn't started the season 0-2 since 2014. Ocho, the Kansas City Chiefs entered tonight with an incredible 17-game win streak in one-score games regular season and postseason. That streak dating back to Christmas Day 2023 against the Raiders is not over. Look, when you have that guy, you have a chance. That's how you feel when you have a legendary great quarterback. When you had a Brady, you have a Mahomes, you have a Peyton Manning, you have a Breeze or Montana or John Elway, You always feel if we can keep it close, they'll make a play in the end that'll win the game for us.
40:52Shannon Sharpe:We trust them. We just need to keep it close. We need to get it close or keep it close, whatever the case may be. And then they'll make a play for us. Give them credit. And that's what happens when you have a because a lot of things need to go right for your defense. They need to get the ball back for you. So three and out, take the ball away. And then my homes and that offense need to do what they've done 17 times before tonight, which is find a way to get in field goal range or to win the game with a touchdown. So I just – that's a long way to return home after L. Yeah, it is. It is. Either way, for us, for the fans, for the football fans, for me, I'm not sure if you enjoyed it, but I enjoyed it.
41:37I enjoyed the game. Now, the first half was a little sloppy, a little flash, just a little play here, a little play there, but I enjoyed that second half. I really, really, really, really like Lad McConkie. Excuse me, Ladarius McConkie. I really like him a lot.
41:51Shannon Sharpe:And considering Justin Herbert in last year's playoff game, he had four interceptions, he couldn't pick the better way to start the season, a 300 and 3 TD game. Mm-hmm. Well, there's no question this is our talent. He has above-average athleticism. The only thing is, okay, come playoff time, bro. We need something like this. Right. Yeah. I'm not saying you got to give us three and three, 300 yards pass and three touchdowns, but you can't give us four INTs either. There ain't a whole lot of defenses that could overcome that kind of poor performance from their quarterback. Go ahead, Ocho. You want to say something?
42:33I said one thing they're going to do is they're going to drop back and throw that ball. they're going to drop back and throw that ball over there in LA.
42:41Shannon Sharpe:When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews, or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. 46:11Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, they should. it. Ocho, Michael Parsons took a veiled dig at his former Cowboy teammates while praising the Packers. I tell you, I've never been in a locker room with guys like this. I came in Tuesday for treatment, and I saw almost every guy in the locker room. This is the first time I've ever seen this. That shows just how much these guys want to be here. They want to be around each other and hang out. I think that's important. And when you're around guys like that, it makes it exciting to come to work.
46:41I mean is he really taking a shot at his other teammates or the fact that everyone's in the training room or maybe just nobody was hurt while they were in Dallas
46:49Shannon Sharpe:he said he came in for treatment and guys was in the locker room he didn't say nobody came in for treatment he said he was getting treatment he said guys were in the locker room okay okay okay okay I like it I like it but I mean the way he make it sound he make it sound like when he come to Dallas To the cowboys locker room to come get treatment ain't nobody in the locker room Duh you that's is that what you took it because that's what he meant. Yeah He said guys like coming to work guys like being around each other. That's how he been it. Oh, Joe Right, you you say you took it like when he got treatment at Dallas with nobody locker room That's exactly how we mean it That's that's messed up.
47:25Shannon Sharpe:That's messed up I need my gonna take the high road. I need my gonna take the high road and don't say nothing He said you ain't say that to Jay when Jerry was talking me up. Exactly. I don't know stupid Jerry's level. Don't stupid Jerry's level. Hey, you know what I want to do? I'm 1 ,000 with you. I want Uno, since he went number one now, I want him to wait. Don't do no talking and do all the talking week four. Do all the talking week four with your plate. Yeah, he better than me. You know what I would have did? What? I would have had a shirt. I would have had a shirt underneath my jersey, right?
48:03And every time I sack, every time I sack that, I'm going to lift it up. That thing will say, how do you like that, Jerry? Every time. Straighten the camera. I think I agree with you, Ocho.
48:21Shannon Sharpe:I left Denver. I ain't had nothing bad to say. I spent 10 years there. It was great. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Move on. Yeah. Spent two years in Baltimore. Got nothing to say. Go back. It's just. Yeah. You know, I don't like. I don't like that. When you're in a place that you played for, that you like, that paid you, that gave you an opportunity, I don't like when you leave a certain place and all of a sudden now you have something bad to say about said place. It's like you're dealing with somebody, you're dating somebody for a while, and you have great memories. Obviously, sometimes you have bad memories, but why not remember the good?
48:58Yes, I'm a firm believer in that. Just because you two may not be together anymore, a la Cowboys and Michael Parsons, there's no need to remember the bad. Just remember the good and leave and go on with grace. It's easy. For some reason, that's just the way the mind is wired.
49:27Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, you signed a thousand autographs. The one you don't sign. Oh, yeah. Ocho's an asshole. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. That's it. That's it. So where is his quote at? I mean, do you say anything else?
49:50Hey, I think I might go to that game. What game? Cowboys or Packers? It depends on where. If it's in Dallas, that's a two-hour flight from Miami. If it's all the way in Green Bay or Wisconsin, that's a little too far. I think that's a little too far.
50:06Shannon Sharpe:But if it's in Dallas, I'm going to go. Yeah, it's going to be in Dallas. But my thing is, Micah, if you wanted camaraderie, if you wanted to build a better team, you wanted leaders. Invite the guys over to your house. Hey. I'm just saying, guys, that if you're trying to build that, you can build it. Hey, guys, you know my mom's going to cook. Hey, we got a barbecue. I'm going to have somebody put some steaks, put something on the grill. Hey, man, let's come over. Hey, let's go bowling. That's what we did. Tuesday, don't show our day off, we might go bowling. Or we might go to the movies. Or we go over to somebody's house and gamble.
50:46Shannon Sharpe:That's what we did. We really, truly enjoyed being around each other. It's so funny that you just mentioned that and saying that is something you should have done if you wanted to have a team bonding moment, especially by position or by defense. Yeah. Yesterday, I sat with all the entire defensive line for the Bengals. In fact, Trey Henderson, Shamar Stewart, BJ Hill. I don't know all the rest of the boys' name. Man, it was about maybe 12, 13, 13, 14 of them. They meet that right here by the stadium at a place called E &O. And I sat with them boys for about, you know, five, ten minutes. Hey, and it's so funny, Unc.
51:24I've been out the game for so long. You know how you're used to seeing people 6 '6", 6 '5", 6 '7", I'm looking at these dudes like, man, what the hell? But y 'all big as hell. I go to myself like, did I play this? I played this game? Exactly. I'm looking like, have I been going that long where I'm looking like, well, is everybody this size? I've been going too long. I've been going too long. They had the nerve to ask me to pay for the bill. they had it huh Jamar Stewart just got paid Trey Henderson they just gave you a 14 million dollar raise last week what you talk man stop playing
52:09Shannon Sharpe:for us I just believe in Micah's case if you want to build that if you want to foster that type of environment as a leader you can do it hey guys let's come over Ray used to have the defense come over and they go over plays. Guys, we went to, it was offense, defense. Hey, man, hey, let's go get something to eat. We come out, we go after a workout. Let's just say it's OTAs. After a workout, it'd be about 15 of us. We go out to eat, go get something to eat. Hey, man, what y 'all, man, what you doing, man? Hey, let's go bowling. Right. Hey, we go bowling. Hey, man, what y 'all doing? Man, hey, let's go to the movie.
52:47Shannon Sharpe:Man, it'd be about, it'd be about 15, 20 in the movie, though, Cho. And guess what? 20 minutes into the movie. everybody sleep everybody sleep hey somebody wake up hey man man you got no more popcorn milk that's you know when you think about it too especially today's generation today's generation today's era of players getting them to do stuff getting them to do stuff as one might be difficult especially dallas when it's too goddamn much to do it's too much to do yeah Yeah. You're right. I mean, I think the thing is now there was really no internet. Guys still play video games. And guys took their PS2s or PlayStation and stuff on the road and they play video games.
53:35Shannon Sharpe:But, I mean, I'm telling you, we were close. In Denver, we were extremely close. I'm saying we might be done with practice at 3, and by the time we got done with meetings, it was 4. we might not leave the building until 6 7 o 'clock I mean we got guys be like man y 'all gonna get me divorced see Sharpe ain't got nobody to go home to but I got wifey kids and they gonna be lovely hey babe I'm on my way we had meeting no he didn't he playing cards
54:05Shannon Sharpe:hey letha letha he rolling that that was that water to white hey letha he rolling dice he We didn't have no extra meetings. Hey, that's funny, man. But, Ocho, we were really – and that's my thing. Micah, if you wanted that type of environment as a leader, you can do it. Yeah. As the best player, they're going to follow you. Now, here's the thing now. They see. They see what you do now. You can't be saying, okay, we're going to do this. but as one of the best players, if that's the type of environment that you want to foster, you build it. You got to lay a foundation. You do that. So that's something they learn.
54:46Shannon Sharpe:I mean, it's like, when you go to high school, you go to a new high school, you go to high school from junior high, you follow everybody to see where the cafeteria is. Yeah. So this is something that's been passed down in Green Bay. This is kind of what they do.
55:05So, like I said, hopefully everything works itself out with Micah.
55:13Shannon Sharpe:Micah has found his way.
55:18Shannon Sharpe:It's tough, Ocho, it's tough. Because, you know, basically they said, and they said, well, we got better. We got better without Micah. You never want to think somebody's gotten better without you. Micah also has some shade for the Lions. I never liked Detroit. I've never liked them, even when I was in Dallas. He also said trick plays is a scare tactic trick plays trick plays are for people who can't beat you straight up You know i'm trying to win the game i'm trying to win. I don't care how i beat you It's like a guy running around the ring and trying to jab meet me in the middle No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, my job is to win while taking as little possible punishment as possible Yeah, that's what guys that's what guys who do trick plays do they can't beat your head up They want you to come out physically.
56:02Shannon Sharpe:They don't want to be dominant. It's a scare tactic, I guess, but I can beat you any which way. Well, you're going to get your opportunity. You'll get your opportunity if you play on Sunday. Oh, you know he playing. You know he playing Sunday. He's absolutely playing Sunday. And the funny thing about it, you talk about Detroit net trick plays and what Ben Johnson used to do with the creativity. Well, you don't remember the Chiefs? you don't remember the Chiefs with all those trick plays they had the ring around the Rosie my favorite was when the whole huddle was going in the circle oh man I was like man I like Detroit's trick plays they be throwing back shoulder fades to tackles they be running screen pass to Padesu last year Detroit beat the Cowboys 47-9 damn you don't get no 47 points on trick plays that's a good old fashioned ass-whipping there.
56:56Absolutely.
56:57Shannon Sharpe:Now, I don't think Micah played. He didn't play? Okay. But look, Micah, that's like saying, well, if that's the case, y 'all shouldn't blitz because the blitz is a trick. That means you can't get to the quarterback with your four. So you got to bring an extra one or two. That's a good one. Or you got to run a text yeah tackle in twist you gotta you know you i'm saying something like you so you gotta do that i mean so the offense does something the defense also get an opportunity to do it so you can't say well they blitz because they can't take it straight up they four can't bro i'm trying to win the game i'm not really listening to you michael i'm really not i'm really not uh but uh like i said the only thing i say micah if you wanted that type of environment in dallas you can create it yeah because you look listen at the documentary listen to how micah uh mike emmett haley look how they talk yeah not great i mean some of the stuff you know hey the stuff that mike had going some of the stuff that the white house and hotels okay but they talked about how close they were as a team team yeah and they were and i'm telling you how close we were as a team in denver now we had our core guys uh that that did stuff that you know we would go to ray's house or we would go out we'd go out on a night like a monday night or something like that knowing that we had tuesday off or you know thursday night or something like that watch the game uh Ray's mama would Buffy would cook yeah but we were close but we had it was our group me Shubh Corey uh Woody and sometimes Jamal sometimes we let Jamal take tag along even though he was a rookie we let him tag along but for the most part what's Corey Fuller uh Corey Harris oh okay okay okay no Fuller wasn't there when I was there oh no okay no no no core harris and so you know but we we you know we did we did things together you know we went out together you know we you know they off season we go to vegas or we go to nba all-star weekend we did things together but in denver it was really like 15 we go to vegas it'd be about 8 12 of us by week so we have you know we had the home home field advantage we're going to vegas right yeah Or we, hey, man, what y 'all doing?
59:29Shannon Sharpe:Man, I don't know, man. I'm thinking about going home. Man, let's go to Vegas. Like, damn. Man, I really need to get home, man. I ain't been, man, come on. All right. We going to Vegas. I like that. I like that. Yeah. I like that. I'm like, look, bro, hey, all I got in Vegas, I got like two days. I got Friday night, Saturday night. I want to get there, you know, get me a nap in. We're going to gamble. We go out, come in. I get me a workout in Saturday morning. Take me another nap. Gamble. We go out. I'm coming back to get my bags. I'm going to the airport. I'm going home. Oh, yeah. Hey, speaking, matter of fact, you just triggered something in my head.
1:00:11I got the call today about Vegas. I appreciate that.
1:00:15Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You know how much I love that sport. I appreciate that. I don't know if I can say anything yet, so I'll wait until we get there. But thank you. We'll make that announcement next week. Hey, thank you. Thank you. Yeah. But we're doing... We're working over here. Hey. Thank you. Hey, matter of fact, that name you just said about three times, you fixed that? Y 'all, you fixed that? Ain't nothing need to be fixed, Ocho. We good. You ain't even... No, we good. Damn. We good, Ocho. Okay. Oh, we good. We good. Yeah, we always going to be good. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Appreciate that.
1:00:56Shannon Sharpe:Appreciate that. Jerry Jones was asked if the Cowboys lost to the Eagles last night if his team missed Micah. Jerry, well, anytime you have a great player, you don't have him out there on the field, but I was specifically watching some guys who could pick up the slack. Number 54, Sam Williams, had some really significant impact. Ocho, do you believe Jerry will ultimately regret trading Micah Parsons? Yeah, I believe so. I believe so because you talk about some of the players that could make an impact, but you don't have an impact player similar to that of Micah Parsons. You don't have that. Nowhere.
1:01:30I know you brought Kenny Clark in. Kenny Clark plays over the nose, over the tackle, and that's pretty much it. He's more of a run-stuffer. He's more of a run-stuffer, yes. Now, I'm not sure what the defensive ends are going to be able to do that they have now, but what we saw with Jalen Hurst being able to escape the pocket because people weren't disciplined and staying within their lanes, Micah Parson is running some of those down He's running some of those down
1:01:55Shannon Sharpe:Oh yeah for sure So I mean it's still too early to say But I really do think Letting a talent like Micah Parson Go understanding how Disruptive he is as a player Based on down and distance Especially when it's time to pin those ears Back and you can just go and play free Yeah you can't You can't replace that You can't replace that well the question is Jerry do you do you regret uh waving DeMarcus Ware because all he did was go become an all pro go to a Pro Bowl player and help lead a Denver defense that ended up winning a winning a Super Bowl
1:02:39that happened yeah you let Larry Allen go
1:02:44Shannon Sharpe:Ryan Allen was still an all-pro. We go to San Francisco and go to Pro Bowl. He was still that good. I think sometimes, Ocho, you know, when you've made a mistake, you hate making a mistake. Right. But you hate admitting it, especially publicly. You might like, damn, I shouldn't have did that. But it's okay. He won't say that. That's not in his DNA. To say that I actually made a mistake about letting the player go? Absolutely not. No. I don't believe he'll say that either. But, look, I don't think the defense played bad, but the question is can they generate pressure without bringing pressure? Yeah.
1:03:23Shannon Sharpe:Because you're sacrificing your back end. There aren't a whole lot of back ends that can hold up. Mm-hmm. So you're going to have to find a way to generate pressure. When the Cowboys were at their best, Michael was pinning their ears back and Diggs was getting picked sixes and Deron Bland was getting picked sixes. listen you can sit on stuff you can take gambles correct you know the ball got to come out it got to come out it got to come out no it's all about when you play the guessing game as a defensive back you can cheat it because you know the ball got to come out to honor our country on its 250th birthday this can of copenhagen goes out to those defending the free American soil that our tobacco has taken root in for over two centuries and counting.
