In short
Nightcap Hour 1 covers two main football topics: the Eagles’ 10-7 road win over the Packers (scoreless first half) and the shock firing of Giants coach Brian Daboll after repeated blown double-digit leads. Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson argue the Eagles won by executing big plays and forcing mistakes, while both quarterbacks (Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love) were inconsistent.
Key claims
Jordan Love is “not meeting expectations” despite his contract; Green Bay’s offense made critical errors on third-and-short and failed to convert a late tying opportunity. Notable examples include a 36-yard Hurts-to-Devontae Smit h deep play, and an Eagles defensive read on an over concept that led to a short-route tackle and end-cut conversion. They also criticize Green Bay’s fourth-and-one decision-making and missed officiating on false starts/tush push.
Guest
none mentioned in the transcript; only hosts Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco. They also discuss Daboll’s firing (20-40-1 record) and debate ownership/GM accountability, plus speculation about potential Giants coaching fits.

4:08Shannon Sharpe:Thank you ladies and gentlemen for joining us for another episode of Nightcap. As you watch the Eagles go on the road to Lambeau Field, take down the Green Bay Packers by the score of 10-7. The Eagles move to 7-2. The Packers fall to 5-3-1. And their defense has to be ticked off. You gave up 16 points and you lose to Cleveland. You gave up 10 points and you lose to the Eagles. That's not good enough offensively, and they're going to have to get that fixed. I don't think anybody played particularly well on the offensive side of the football, but we'll dive into that in a minute. Ocho Eagles 10 Packers 7 a scoreless first half the first time in nearly two years that the NFL has had a scoreless first half but the Eagles make enough plays a big play over the top of 36 yards Jalen Hurts to Devontae Slep former teammates at the University of Alabama and that was the really the difference in the ballgame as they win 10-7.
6:11Shannon Sharpe:Ocho I'm gonna let you take it go Unless you're a defensive guy Unless you're a defensive guy That's the only way you enjoy Your microphone, where are your microphone? You muffled
6:26I'm glad I'm glad you said something Can you hear me now? I say unless you're a defensive guy That's the only way you enjoy this game That's the only way you enjoy this game You expect a lot You expect a lot of points Especially from the Green Bay Packers the way we talked about them before the season started with all the weapons that they have joy and love actually continuing to get better you know uh year to year and it was bad huh it was bad saquon almost got loose a little bit so i expected him to finally make make make his uh his visit to the party and having a big game and do some and yeah do some of the things that jonathan taylor's been doing as of late but that didn't happen um it was a close game it was a game where the team with the fewest mistakes was going to win.
7:11The team with the fewest mistakes was going to win, and in the end there was an opportunity for Green Bay to be able to tie it, and it just didn't happen. They missed. I'm not sure if you enjoyed this game. Maybe you might have liked it based on what you saw, but I'm not going to call it a snooze fest because I was hyped before the game started. Oh, my goodness, the Packers playing? Oh, the Eagles playing? I thought maybe it would have been a barn. It's going to be a barn burner. but hey it was upsetting uh yeah it left a lot to be desired i mean we're thinking about two teams
7:47Shannon Sharpe:two quarterbacks that's been to the pro bowl one quarterback that's one that's won a super bowl he's been a super bowl mvp i don't think either quarterback played particularly well in this game i thought jalen hurts made the throws that he needed to make especially that big one to devontae smith um could have put a nice uh a ribbon on that box a bow a nice bow on the box had he hit to drop that one in the bucket to AJ. AJ, yeah. I don't care what y 'all say, Eagles fan. Ain't no way AJ coming back next year. But we'll talk about that another date and time. I just don't get Jordan Love. The mistakes that he makes, they got a third and seven.
8:22Shannon Sharpe:You run the over concept. I'm going to dangle this cheese out here in front of you, hoping somebody go to the short route. Boy, don't you throw it. The Eagles played it exactly how you draw it up. They jumped Musgrave on the short route, and you got the end cut coming in behind him for the first down, and he'd take the seven yards when you need nine. I'm confused, bro. And I was like, damn, I wonder what LaFleur is thinking. And then he went and looked at it on the iPad, and he said, you got to be eating me. You got to be eating me. And then he steps up in the pocket. Instead of all these guys breaking free, I mean he got the shallow cross breaking free he got the end cut breaking free he got the over breaking free and he takes off running like he Lamar Jackson bro throw the ball Ocho the contract that he got he earned that but he's not meeting expectations of what they have and I told you I said even with this Michael trade are we sure they're better than the Rams I've asked you that Ocho are we sure yeah and that was a hard one back then To answer that question, honestly, it was a hard one, especially with the way the season started, the expectations that they did have.
9:40The expectations that we, watching Jordan Love and what he's been able to do as of late, I mean, you would think,
9:48Shannon Sharpe:hey, they're going to be right there in the running with the Rams. Jordan Love is just a little bit too inconsistent for my fancy. And the throws that he's missing, Ocho, if that's a rookie quarterback or a second-year quarterback, I kind of give him a little leeway. Yeah, I kind of give him a little grace. But when you have a Pro Bowl quarterback, when you have the level expectations, when you've earned the money that you're making, you can't make those mistakes. Bro, you get sacked and you're going to do what you do. You try to pat the ball to Josh Jacob. Josh Jacob, okay, they coming on a blitz.
10:19Shannon Sharpe:You hit the guy and leak out. Either break out or break in. You can't keep straight up the field, bro. You got to give him an angle and throw you the football. Yeah. Yeah.
10:32Shannon Sharpe:This is why I can't coach Ocho. Some things they shouldn't have to tell you. You know damn well, Josh Jacobs, you're not going to run no route if you're sleeping out and you're going to keep straight up the field. You're going to break out or you're going to break in because you've got to give him an angle to throw you the football. So I don't blame Jordan Love for that for missing that throw because he's like, bro, if you break out, you give me – I mean, think about it. You've got brawn on your hip. You catch this. Ain't no telling how far you're going to go. the Eagles the one thing they're going to do they're going to make plays they're going to find a way to get the ball I thought Green Bay did a great job Jalen Hurts get the ball gets going picks up a big and the guy comes in punches it out I was like okay Green Bay you might be on to something but you know you've got to protect the ball for four quarters when you play the Eagles because they're very opportunistic they'll find a way to get the ball out Ocho I just need you to help me with one thing and then I'm going to let you go talk to me it's fourth and one Why are you trying to go in a hurry when you've already gotten, first of all, they missed the first false start on the quarterback sneak in the first quarter.
11:34Shannon Sharpe:They missed that one. The damn show missed the one on the tush push. I'm trying to figure out how can I see things in real time the officials at the damn game can't. We'll get to that in a minute. They're not supposed to call it. They're not supposed to call it. You got fourth and one. This is the money down. Take a time out. Now, give me your best fourth and one. Give me your best fourth. Okay, what do we like on fourth and one? Hey, Jordan, what do you like on fourth and one? We got three options right here. I like this. What one do you like? Copenhagen's spit-free pouches are packed full of American-grown tobacco.

Receivers. When they go double tight, when they go jumbo formation, they got center, guard, tackle, extra offensive lineman. that extra offensive lineman is a tight end you got to back your ass up you're the z receiver the guy to the open side now he's the x receiver boy look here sometimes ocho what i get upset about sometimes i'll be watching these guys play if dynamite was brain they couldn't blow their nose boy look at here this is why chat I mean it's common sense Ocho you got an extra lineman he's on the ball he's now the tight end you've got to back off yeah the open side is now the ex receiver it's just common it's just so maybe it's me because some things you just like, Ocho, it's just common knowledge.
16:33Shannon Sharpe:I could just like really think on the fly and just like, okay, I'm supposed to be on the ball. I made the mistake one time and it cost us a big play and I promised I'd never be in that situation again. I know who's supposed to be on the ball, but if he lines up on the ball, Ocho, ain't no harm, no foul. I'll back up off the ball. Instead of having a play where now all of a sudden we have an illegal formation because odds. Me, I'm supposed to be on the ball. You're supposed to be on the... No, no, no, no. You get on the ball. I'll get off. A lot of times, guys, I like to be on the ball. A lot of times, guys don't like to be on the ball because you're closer to the defender.
17:09Shannon Sharpe:I like being on the ball because it's going to give me an opportunity to get my hands on you because I'm going to throw your ass out of the way. I ain't going to be you. You know what that tells me too, Unc? After one, two, three, three, four, four days to prepare, after three days of two days of real practice, Fridays, a fast Friday, I mean one day a fast Friday, that that actual play that they did call on that fourth and one is one that they didn't go over many times, one that they didn't rehearse very many times, one that they didn't go through and walk through on Saturday mornings, you know, when we talk about situational football.
17:43In case this comes up on four down and these are the plays we choose from, this is the alignment that we need. That's why that happened.
17:50Shannon Sharpe:But if they rushed it, Ocho, why you – Ocho, this is the most important – this is for the game. Oh, yeah. Why would you rush it? I would rather take a timeout because the likelihood of you getting the ball back, and if you do get the ball back, Ocho, you're not going to get it back with a whole bunch of time. So now, and look at the position that you're in. Look where you are. Bro, I'm like, you got to be kidding me. You rushed that on fourth and one? Normally, Ocho, if I'm going to invest something, and this is my last, I ain't just finna go, hey, put it around right there. I'm gonna think about this.
18:27Shannon Sharpe:Okay, let me think about this, okay? This is my absolute last here. And it got to be your best. It's got to be the best option. I mean, the Eagles, the one thing they're not gonna do, and you can think about Sirianni, whatever you want, they're not gonna beat themselves. They're not gonna beat themselves. They're gonna line up properly. Their lineman's gonna be where they're supposed to be. If a guy's on the ball, he's going to be on the ball. If the guy's off the ball, he's going to be off the ball. Defensively, they're going to be where they're supposed to be. Man, I watched a situation where they ran what we call cover five, Ocho.
19:04Shannon Sharpe:22 million. Yeah. Man, I watched Mitchell. Man, I thought it was a kung fu movie. Romeo Dobbs ain't moved. He's ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Ain't moved nowhere, Ocho. I'm like, damn, son. Ocho don't laugh, man. Man, Ocho. What kind of movie? I thought it was a Cosmo movie. Ha, ha, ha, woo, ha. And he ain't moved. And Mitchell like stabbed him with one and he just standing up there like, bro. You got to be careful. All that dancing is fine if you at the disco, but when you're on the football field, you got to be moving forward because the quarterback, because as he's going back and you're still at the line of scrimmage, Ocho.
19:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yeah. Remember we had the conversation. Josh Jacobs said, we need a dog. We got some good. And all the receivers got mad and they need a dog on Joe. They need a dog. They got good. They got quality receivers. I think Watson is the best, but he can't stay healthy. He got so much speed. He got hamstrings. He had his knee. He can't stay healthy. Well, listen. Listen. What we're looking for when we talk about a dog, they have such good quality wide receivers that are really good at doing different things. All this is a little fine-tuning, huh? It ain't nothing but a little fine-tuning. Well, they need to come see you so they can fine-tune it.
20:34Hey, let me tell you something. Everybody, if you think about it, everybody that came to that wide receiver workshop in July, you see what they doing this year, right? JSN, JSN had my eyes wide open. Being able to see him in person there. I saw him at Ohio State. I seen him at the Rose Bowl. I saw him a little bit last year, but I was not expecting this. I didn't expect what I'm seeing now. Listen, Dubs, Wicks, Jaden Reed, come on back down here. Bring them boys with you. Let's politic together. Continue to work on our craft. Continue to work on our game and get better for situations like today.
21:16For nights like today where plays don't come often and the ones that you do make, you got to make a difference. These are the reasons why you get paid the million. These type of games are the reasons why you get paid the big bucks. Look, for me,
21:33Shannon Sharpe:I think the way the Eagles are going to have to win, they're going to have to win the game more on Jalen Hurts' arms than Saquon Legs as opposed to what it was last year. Teams are not going to let him run wild. Now, last year it seemed like every game we've come out here and we're like, man, how y 'all keep letting this man hit his head on the goalpost from 60? How y 'all let him hit his head on the goalpost twice from 50 plus? Now they're like, we're going to shut this water off. You're going to have to get water elsewhere. And elsewhere is going to be in the form of Jalen Hurts, his legs, and his arms.
22:06Shannon Sharpe:But they do a great job. Jalen is rare that Hurts turns the ball over. They got it out tonight. They got him going down, and then boom, dude with the peanut punch. He did a great job of getting it out. But if I'm the Packers, it's a team game. But you know the frustration is starting to get built, Ocho. Bro, we held that team to 10 points. We held that team to 10 points. We held Saquon Barkley to 60 yards. We held the quarterback to under 200 yards passing. That's got to be enough. well it wasn't enough so you're going to have to find ways you're going to have to create more turnovers you're going to have to put the opposing quarterback under the rest that's a good offensive line the big right tackle he got Nick came out but you see when the rubber needed to meet the role on that fourth down he brought his ass back in the game because Lane Johnson because that's how much it means to him but this Green Bay Packers team man.
23:08Shannon Sharpe:They got to do some soul searching because the Lions, hey, hold on. They play the Lions on Thanksgiving, don't they? I think that's the Thanksgiving day game. I believe so. Yeah, it's three games that day. The Packers, they got at Giants. They got at Vikings at home at Lions on Thanksgiving. Hey, just so you know, they got the Bears twice. The Bears ain't no easy win. Oh, no, not no. No, no, no. No, not no more. And you go to Denver. They're going to beat Denver. Okay. You see that pass rush? Who you think got a better pass rush, us or the Eagles? I mean, you know the Broncos' pass rush is number one right now.
Read the full transcript
23:54Exactly. Hey, forget the pass rush defense as a whole. And they got the rest of the game.
24:03Shannon Sharpe:And the Vikings again. the Eagles remaining schedule Lions at home at Cowboys Bears at home at Chargers Raiders at home at Commanders at Bills ooh it's two games where you kind of you kind of can almost you know with the way the Eagles play and knowing Jalen Hurts how opportunistic he is and that he doesn't turn the ball over it's two games you could already knock off right there the Raiders and Commanders you would probably say you know what they're gonna win those two Now, everything else, what's up in the air? They got the Lions at home Sunday night. Then they go on the road at Cowboys. They get the Bears at home.
24:47Shannon Sharpe:That's a Thursday night game. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. That's a Friday game. It's Black Friday game. Then at Chargers, which is a Monday night game, Raiders and the Commanders the Bills we don't know what Bills we're going to get will Josh Allen protect the football because when he doesn't protect the football they're very average look at the games that they lost they lost to Atlanta Josh turned the ball over they got blown out what was it 30 nothing they lost Sunday to the Dolphins what happened turned the ball over they got not only turned the ball over but the damn Dolphins jumped out on them they jumped out on him and having to play from behind and how did they jump out on mistakes got a turnover turnover you gotta take care you gotta take care of the football look i i think the thing is we've done it we've we've kind of built these games up ocho we saw early on we see how the packers look we see all the eagles look and we were expecting oh same thing last night we thought oh man we're gonna get some point no no no no we're not so i i'm just gonna like you know what i'm gonna have no moving forward chat i'm gonna have no expectations of games going in If they score 75 between the two of them, I'm happy.
26:02Shannon Sharpe:If they score 12 between the two of them, I'm happy with that too. So I'm done with the expectation to get my hopes up because this was some bull drive tonight. Hey, let me tell you, it was some bull drive. And one of the things you said, one of the reasons why you can't coach, but in the Bible, it says, order my steps and by which way I should walk. Mm-hmm. And God, these people, Brian Dayball, Brian Kelly, you know, these people keep getting fired, and we keep talking about it. And you're really not seeing God's vision. You're not really getting the message because he's not sending it clear enough to you, but it's clear enough to me.
26:40And he's trying to order your steps, but you're refusing to walk in the path in which he's creating for you, which is a head coach.
26:48Shannon Sharpe:No, that ain't for me. See? The Eagles remaining schedule, Chad, The Lions, they got the Lions Sunday night, and then they're at the Cowboys. Then they get the Bears on Black Friday, and then they got the Chargers on Monday night, and then they have the Raiders and the Commanders, and then they're at the Bills on the 28th.
27:14Shannon Sharpe:That's defined. Oh, and then there are Commanders, and then there are Commanders, which will be, we don't know where that's going to be, probably nothing. because at that point in time, the commanders will be eliminated from the playoffs. And so nobody's going to – they're not going to get flexed into Sunday night or anything of that nature. So that's where the Eagles are. The Eagles have the Lions Sunday night at Cowboys, Bears at home, at Chargers on Monday night, Raiders at home, at commanders, at Bills, commanders at home. So they got a formidable schedule, but they have the type of team. They've been here.
27:49Shannon Sharpe:They're battle-tested. so they're not going to be they're not going to get too high you know look it's a big time win on a Monday night it got a and a I'm sure Sirianni was telling me it doesn't get any easier we got a tough one again next Sunday night we played Monday we got a short week so and the thing is that you know the thing with the NFL now they breaking down film so you hey you can get out but you can get you can get your iPad you can get on iPad right now and start going over what the Lions like to do on the plane On the plane. We didn't have it like that, Ocho. We weren't able to get stuff until Monday.
28:24Shannon Sharpe:You know, they'd have a couple of cut-ups already broke down for us and we could see certain things. Now, you get a head start. They done got a head start. They're working ahead of schedule. But the Eagles moved to 7-2. The Eagles, if the playoffs were to start now, the Eagles would be the number one seed. Seahawks would be number two. Lions, number three. Tampa, number four. Rams even though they have a tie for the first best record Seahawks would actually Seahawks have the tie break over them so the Lions would be in the fifth seed the Bears would be the sixth seed and the Packers would be because of five three and one they would be the seventh and final seed so that's where we are with that right there Packers remaining schedule at Giants Vikings at home at Lions on Thanksgiving Bears home Broncos on the road Bears at Bears that's Packers Ravens at home at Vikings so that's a formidable schedule right there Copenhagen spit-free pouches are packed full of American grown tobacco made for welders stuck behind masks more mechanics stuck on a fused spark plug the long-haul trucker is stuck in gridlock performing working late at the field office or anytime there's no time or space to spit there's copenhagen spit-free pouches find them in stores today not all varieties available in all geographies warning this product can cause mouth cancer do you know the symptoms of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea or OSA in adults with obesity?

33:22Shannon Sharpe:Giants co-owner John Marrott and Steve Tisch said today, the past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing and we have not met our expectations for this franchise. We understand the frustration of our fans and we will work to deliver significant improved product. Assistant coach, offensive coordinator Mike Kapka will serve as the Giants interim head coach. Dayball, 20-40-1 as Giants head coach. His 336 winning percentage puts him behind Ben McAdoo. No, he had a bunch of cheesecake factory, that big menu he had. And Ray Perkins fired two of the three head coordinators and flip-flopped play calling with others.
34:05Shannon Sharpe:Replaced five of nine position coach, started seven different quarterbacks, had a running record with none of them. He's fired at the Giants because he didn't win. It's really that simple. No owners, John Maron, Steve Tisch, you fail. How's the general manager still there? Because he hired him. How's he still there? Daniel Jones is gone. Saquon Barkley is gone. He drafted Evan Neal. So you think you're going to get an improved product when the general manager, the guy that's making all the decisions, He's still there. I'm not saying Brian Dayball should or should not have been fired. We'll discuss that in a minute.
34:45Shannon Sharpe:But I'm trying to figure out how Sean has been able to keep his damn job.
34:54Hey.
34:59Honestly, regardless of what coach comes in there, they're probably going to get fired. They've gone through multiple coaches. Yeah. They've gone through multiple coaches, and for Brian Dayball to get fired is kind of somewhat understandable. He's had leading games in multiple games this season. He had leading games early in the game, and they lost on the back end. He did? They lost on the back end. I'm talking about bad games that they should have continued to be able to have some type of success after having the leads they've had, and they squandered everyone. everyone? You mean you didn't win not one of those?
35:36Shannon Sharpe:I think they had four double-edged leads going into the fourth quarter, right? Yes. I mean, they had a 26-8, 26-9 lead over the Broncos. They had a 20-10 lead over the Bears.
35:51Shannon Sharpe:They had the lead with the Cowboys with like 14 seconds. The guy comes on, you're a big field goal, and they end up winning in an overtime. Yeah. Oh, here it is. Week two, they led 13-3, lost 40-37. At the Saints, they led 14-3, lost 26-14. The Broncos, they led 26-8, lost 33-32. With the Bears, they led 20-10, lost 24-20. Yeah. And one thing about it, we always say coaches, coaches, coaches, coaches, coaches. You can have 100 coaches, 100 different coaches coming there, and all 100 are going to get fired. Yeah. All 100 are going to get fired And listen, some accountability has to be Put on the players as well You know, but obviously the coaching staff Too, and the one person who Oversees all that is Brian, so at this point, it was Time for him.
36:46Shannon Sharpe:No, Brian don't coach the team He ain't got no say, he probably didn't have any say over the final 53, he probably had no say in Free agency, he probably had no say in the draft Hell no, he happy to have a job Hold on, so it sounds like They run this show over there like that team. They got that star on the hill. Of course. They're all similar to that? Yes. That's why I laugh when Jerry told me he thought about hiring Sean Payton. Man, you actually think Sean Payton's going to come in there, and the only thing he's going to be is a coach. He ain't going to have no say over the final 53. He's not going to have any say over the draft.
37:17Shannon Sharpe:He's not going to have any say of free agency. He's just going to stand there and coach. And then when things go wrong, they're going to blame him. Just like all the coaches he fired. How many coaches has he had since he fired Jimmy? Who took over the year with it? He had – who's that? Dave Campo? He had Dave Campo. He had Chan Gailey, who was my old position coach. He had Wade Phillips. He had Jason Garrett.
37:44Shannon Sharpe:Mike McCarthy. Now, he's probably had more than that. Right. Until – Damn. You know, hey, John Merritt, you know what I mean? You know, when you had a lot to say about what the fans – what the fans were saying because you was reading all their mail when they was calling in and talking about Cap and all that. You read the mail. Let's read some of the mail what they're saying about you. See if they're happy with you and what you've been able to do with this franchise. Yeah. Because y 'all ain't been close. Since Eli retired, you bungled that. Eli had all those consecutive starts. Then you start Geno, and then you start Eli again after you done break the man's streak.
38:27and they did that of course they did you know what they doing Barry Switzer came after
38:34Shannon Sharpe:Jimmy so it was Barry Switzer then I think it was Parcells Campbell oh they had 10 coaches okay so Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer Chan Gailey, Dave Campbell Bill Parcells, Wade Phillips Jason Garrett, Mike McCarthy Brian Schott McCarthy
38:56Shannon Sharpe:Jimmy Johnson had a 50 winning percentage. Barry Switzer had 625. Chan Gailey was 18 and 14. Dave Campo was 15 and 33. Bill Parcells was 34 and 30. Wade Phillips was 34 and 22. Jason Garrett was 85 and 67. Mike McCarthy was 49-35. And Brian Schottenheimer right now is 3-5-1.
39:30No, but what we're saying is that ownership plays a large part
39:36Shannon Sharpe:in the success of a team. I'm glad you just said that. Look at all the teams that consistently win. The Chiefs. Look at the Chiefs. The Ravens. Look at the Patriots. yeah the Ravens well obviously I'm going to throw the Packers in there because they're a winning organization not actually getting Lombardi trophies but always being in contention and another thing one thing that can overcome bad ownership is a great quarterback yeah but you got to pick him and sometimes they'll mess that up yeah that too but having a great elite quarterback can overcome some of the bad decision making that happens all the way up.
40:19Shannon Sharpe:I think the problem that coach day ball ran into Ocho is that he realized early on. The only guy that can save my job is the quarterback that we drafted in the first round. But in the process of doing that, he put him in harm's way. Cause Ocho, if I'm drowning, I don't give a damn about drowning you to save myself.
40:40Shannon Sharpe:I'm trying to keep my head above water. So if that means you got to go down, I got to stand on your shoulders. So be right. And that's exactly what it was. And that's what he did. He put this kid in harm's way because he's trying to save his job. Because at the end of the day, yeah, I drafted him. Hell, I want to coach him. Mm-hmm. And so in the process of putting him in harm's way, he subjected him to some hits. Jackson Darton, I've said this, and now I was early on. Man, the champ, they always want to let somebody live. Now you got your guy in the blue tent damn near every game because you want to let him live.
41:16Shannon Sharpe:You like that fire. I want my quarterback to have energy. Okay, now look at your quarterback. Y 'all still like that, Giants fan? Because you had a lot to say. I said, you can't run like that. You can't. You can't have your quarterback being susceptible to those kind of hits. That's why they're protecting his ass in the pocket. Once he leaves the pocket, tee off on him. He's a running back. Now look at him. But y 'all had a lot to say. We ain't had that kind of energy in a long time. And you might not have it again. Hey, listen. Honestly, too, and as a fan of the game, but watching Jackson Dart, once he came in, Yes, absolutely.
41:56But you got to be smart, though, Joe. Yeah, you do. Now, that comes on him, and that's going to come. He's going to get that with experience and understanding. You got to pick and choose your battles. And when you pick me, buddy, you got to pick them wisely. Well, I hope they knock some sense into it,
42:08Shannon Sharpe:because they damn sure knock some marbles out of it. Oh, yeah. You got to make business decisions. You got to make business decisions. when you got that ball in your hands and you cross that threshold and you become a runner, man, hey, them boys is not playing with you out there, man. This is not college. Them grown men. They're trying to break you because that's their opportunity because they can't hit your ass in the pocket like they want to. But what they can do is tee off on your ass when you're out of the pocket. Absolutely. But they give you something called a protection where you can slide and they can't touch it.
42:41Shannon Sharpe:Now, you try to be a hero and I get all that, You get up and get the first down and you do all this and you get the crowd hyped and all that. Okay. Okay, Billy Badass.
42:56Shannon Sharpe:I've seen it. I know what they're going to do. Yeah. Quarterbacks are not used to taking hits like that. They're not built to take hits like that. So why would you subject yourself to taking that kind of punishment, Ocho? You're not going to take that kind of punishment. Hold on. And it's a funny thing about it. And some of the play calling ain't helping. No. Some of the play calling. Didn't I just tell you I'm drowning? Hell yeah. I'm trying to save my damn self. So if you're drowning the process, so be it, Ocho. Yeah, as long as you save my ass, huh? Thank you. Why you think he calling those plays, Ocho?
43:35Shannon Sharpe:And I get it. I get it. But Jackson Dart needs to be smarter, and they need to put an emphasis on it also. Hey, son, get down. You get the first down, hey, I get it. The crowd gets energized, but the crowd will get you effed up. Yeah. They'll get you effed up. Hey, trying to do what they want, huh? Yeah. You're exactly right. Let me ask you a question, don't you? Who do you think will be a good fit? Who do you think will be a good fit for the Giants?
44:06Shannon Sharpe:Nah. Okay. I see how much money they take from you in New York. You make 1.5 million, you bring home 747 ,000. Kick rocks. Yeah, you right. Can I coach from Vegas? I do have all my meetings from Zoom. I'm trying to think of a collegiate coach that would resonate very well with grown men that are in the NFL. Hell, brother Lane Kiffin, huh? Lane? You like John Gruden? Yeah. oh Lane Kiffin to John Gruden that's the only two I can think of off the top of my head Mike McCarthy I heard Mike McCarthy name thrown around what about what about hey for that city though that city that city need a coach like a Lane Kiffin or John Gruden that's a little bit fiery you know a little bit has has a little personality to him.
45:08Shannon Sharpe:The offensive coordinator. I think they would fit. What's the offensive coordinator for Washington?
45:15Shannon Sharpe:He was the head coach in Arizona. Cliff Kingsbury. What about Cliff Kingsbury? Now, he normally works really well with mobile, athletic quarterbacks. We saw what he did with Kyler. We saw what he did, what he's done for Jalen, Jaden Daniels. but would he work with a Jackson Dart? A guy that's mobile. He's not quite as athletic as Daniels and Kyler, but that might, hey. What do you think?
45:49Shannon Sharpe:Well, I mean, the thing is, it might be a part of, I mean, the question is, his thing is, they threw it out because, you know, the commissioner wanted to hear it. Like, no, you're not finna do that. you're not going to be the arbitrator man suing you and you hear your own opinion. No, hell no. So the question is with the NFL, how is that going to play out? Because this thing's going to court. So do they get a settlement and a part of the settlement he can come back and coach? Or is it a situation where we're going to give you money and you're done, you can cover the league, but you're not going to coach in the league?
46:25I like the John Gruden route. John Gruden and obviously Lane Kevin, who coached him in college. Did you just not hear what I said?
46:33Shannon Sharpe:He has a pending lawsuit against the NFL. Let me tell you. There are certain rules that have been, regardless of stuff like that going on, they can make it happen. If the NFL says we're going to offer you a settlement, but you cannot coach in the NFL. Oh, okay. Well, hell, you know who else had a lawsuit against the NFL and is still coaching? Brian Flores? Yeah. Yeah, he's coaching. Is he a head coach?
47:08Shannon Sharpe:Okay. Now, the question is, he's had good defenses. You think he's going to get a job with that lawsuit? Who's going to hire him? Because you do realize if he sued the league, who is he suing? One of those owners. One of the owners, yeah. so it's going to be a very interesting situation to see how this plays out it's kind of like ocho i got a lawsuit to get you but i want my job back nah you go ahead and take this money go head on you ain't getting no job back hey but honestly knowing knowing knowing how the nfl works understanding the ecosystem that they do have that that that brotherhood they have amongst each other i could still see you know things working itself out in ways that we won't be able to explain well if the lawsuit goes away it'll be explained but it's just hard for me to see a scenario okay this man got he won't 60 he won't 100 million he said you ruined my reputation by leaking this stuff right and you cost me 60 million dollars 60 70 million dollars that was left on my contract.
48:16Oh, all that was off the tape? He found a 10-year,$100 million deal. $100 million deal. Yeah, I remember that, but I thought he was still getting paid regardless. No, you don't give a... They bought it, and the thing is
48:31Shannon Sharpe:Mark Davis didn't want to. He said he didn't want to. He said the NFL forced him to. Forced him to do it? Yeah.
48:42Who else?
48:44Shannon Sharpe:I hear people talk about Clint Kubiak, the offensive coordinator. Yeah. He was the offensive coordinator in Minnesota last year. Who was his quarterback in Minnesota? Sam Darnold. He's the offensive coordinator in Seattle. Who's his quarterback? Ooh, Sam Darnold. It's funny how that worked too, right? He's going to get some strong consideration. Mm-hmm. As head coach. Hey, Clint, let me get a job. Do you really – you have to understand also, Clint has to look at the landscape of the New York Giants, understand what you're working with, understand what you had when you was out there in Minnesota.
49:24It made things easy. Oh, Joe. You know, understand the weapons you have around you now that you are over there in goddamn – Seattle. Seattle. Yeah, now, do you want to come and start all over in New York? You do have Jackson Dart, who is very exciting. Scatterbow will be back next year. Malik Neighbors. Well, he should be fine by the start of the season. Who?
49:49Shannon Sharpe:Malik. Yeah, he should be. He definitely should be. But here's the thing to Ocho.
49:57Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, that's still a gold standard franchise. and my first head coaching job is going to be with the New York Giants. Who turns that down? You just saw – what's the guy that was at Philly last year? Yeah.
50:18Shannon Sharpe:He was at Dallas OC for a long time. Kellen Moore. Kellen Moore. Ocho. He took New Orleans. He took the New Orleans job. it give it a choice because you take new orleans or you taking the giants right i got you but but see it's it's so it's so it's so few times that those opportunities present themselves you have to take them when they do yes you have to take them when they come
50:50um but that's that's not that's a bad one it's too that's a bad one to go into
50:56Shannon Sharpe:Where was Kline Kubiak? Because Kuz got three or four boys. I know Clint and Kline, both of them coached, but Kline...
51:11Shannon Sharpe:He was play calling somewhere.
51:16Shannon Sharpe:He's at the Cowboys?
51:21Shannon Sharpe:Where was he last year? He was at the Cowboys.
51:30So he's still there?
51:36Okay.
51:40Okay.
51:42Shannon Sharpe:He got any other sons coaching?
51:52Shannon Sharpe:I just know those two because they were little kids when Kuhn was with me in Denver. Because they were probably like five or six when I got to Denver.
52:09Shannon Sharpe:Maybe they were small, really, really, really young. But look, there are going to be some names that's going to be played.
52:25Shannon Sharpe:Oh, has he been at the Niners?
52:31Okay. Okay.
52:35Shannon Sharpe:You see how that ecosystem feed himself, Ocho? Oh, hey, listen. I'm listening to you. I'm listening to Ash run off all the names and the different places that they're at. Hey, it's amazing. For all those guys, hey, Kube, hey, Mike gave Kube his start. When Kube got the job at the Houston, Texas, Kyle was his OC. Mm-hmm. Now, did everything? It's funny how that works. He had, when they were in Washington, Kyle was the OC. Sean McVay was there. Mike McDaniel was there. Raheem Moore was there. Raheem Morris was there. Go back and look at all those guys that was there. And all they do is, hey.
53:24Yeah, they do.
53:26Shannon Sharpe:Well, hey, it's easy on them because the wife takes care of them because they made not one parent-teacher conference. They made no recital. They made the jack. But it's tough, man, because the coach is like, hey, you leave home, and the next day they graduate in high school. you done miss damn near everything. Hey, it goes by fast. Yeah, it does. And so, but I think there are going to be a lot of available candidates. It's going to be interesting to see how these lawsuits play out with Brian Flores, how they play out with John Gruden. I think there are going to be, Clint Kubiak is going to get, he's going to get some looks.
54:07Shannon Sharpe:The way that offense looked last year, and the way it's looking now? Yeah. Hey, but will you be able to make that offense over there in New York look like that? The Rams defense, the Rams D coordinator, they ball it out? Hey, it just makes sense. Pairing the quarterback where he had success in college, it just makes too much sense to me. and bringing in brother Kiffin from Ole Miss. No, I wasn't okay with that. Y 'all hear what y 'all want to hear. No. But they say it. Oh, but you was okay with the Broncos scoring 10 points. No, I wasn't. I was living that they only scored 10 points against that team.
54:59Shannon Sharpe:But I get it. I get it. I'm a Bronco. You didn't tune in. You didn't tune in that night, but you tune in now. And so you hear me talk about the offense only scoring 10 points or seven points. I get it. I get it. I get it. You're right. I didn't. I did, though. Everybody that was here saw, heard me say, this is Bo Nix. That ain't good enough. That's not good enough. You never accept anything in a win. You wouldn't in a loss. Y 'all heard me say that over and over, and you tell me, we tired of hearing that. But y 'all hear what y 'all want to say. Yeah, I know. Win is a win. Anybody that's really never played sports, and only looks at...
55:42Shannon Sharpe:I get it. That's why a lot of times, Ocho, I used to be going back and forth. I was like, hold on, what the F am I doing? I'm going back and forth with somebody that never played football, let alone played on the level that I played or played at the level in which I played. Why am I talking to y 'all about football? If sometimes they don't understand. I had to catch myself. I said, I'm trying to explain when we got this concept, they're doing this, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, wait a damn minute. They don't know the difference between a screenplay and a screen porch. And here I am, I'm on goddamn social media debating them.
56:19Going back and forth. Hey, sometimes the way you see the game, they don't see it.
56:25Shannon Sharpe:I know they don't. A little bit different. See, that's why they have to have sound. They need somebody to tell them what's going on. I don't. I know formation. I know personnel. I know coverages. I know all of that. I'm not interested that they scored. Congratulations. I need to know why they scored, how they scored, what coverage was the defense in. That's what I'm looking at. Okay, were you in 21 personnel? Were you in 12? Were you in 11? Were you in empty set? Was it a 50 protection? Was it a jet protection? Was it a 70 protection? Was it a scat protection? Were you in jumbo? And then I tried to – what is that?
57:05Shannon Sharpe:Well, we didn't play the game. Okay, then we – but they quit. We didn't play the game. You should know. Captain Obvious? Well, it was Captain Obvious. Why didn't you see it?
57:19Shannon Sharpe:Hey, that's funny. That's why, you know, hey. And when I tweet some Mocho, it's not that I can't either side. I'm just saying what I noticed. I tweeted in real time. I was like, how can I see that in real time? Officials at the game, they can't. That guy moved. that guy was the guard before the center had even snapped the ball he was damn near colliding with the Packer defender yeah hey that tush push I don't know what the ref's looking at but it was something that they said they were going to be paying attention to they were making the call earlier in the season it seemed they've stopped calling it and it's playing as day especially if you got two good asses how they're moving before the ball is now that's all you got to look at Ocho hold on his head is in front of the ball how is that possible I'm like but hey he must have been looking at his men you're like okay Y say she wanted General Joe's chicken some muumuu gapain fried rice some egg food young some muumuu I had the General Joe's chicken I don't like the muumuu gapain What the hell is that?
58:39Shannon Sharpe:At the Chinese restaurant. Oh. Oh. Ocho, Mike Tomlin was asked to assess his quarterback Aaron Rodgers' performance last night. Let's take a listen to what he had to say. How would you assess Aaron's performance tonight? How would you? Next. Let's see. Ocho when I come in here and I say Aaron Rodgers didn't play well so forth and so on as you get older you just cannot allow you can't sum it up like you once could game in game in game in you can have those flash games but they come far and few and far between oh you just man you don't like that man you just he ever since he didn't take the vaccine you got a problem with him it's like I'm just telling you based on Aaron Rodgers having watched this man for 15 since 2004 i retired aaron became the starting quarterback i think in like 08 so for the better part of 17 18 years i watched this man y 'all make it y 'all make it seem like i'm just dumb like i just be talking out my tail right i i like i like i like tomlin's answer too yeah like it hey listen but aaron said it Yeah, there's no need for me to go in depth.
1:00:03You know, you watched his performance. It was lackluster. We can't win with you playing like that.
1:00:13Shannon Sharpe:No, Aaron said it. Aaron said I've got to play better. So if I say Aaron needs to play better, he's not playing like he's playing like an old Aaron Rodgers, not the old Aaron Rodgers. Oh, you hate it. He come out and say exactly what I said last night. Now, let me mispronounce somebody's name. Let me be wrong on something. Boy, they killed my food. They flooded my timeline. But when Aaron Rodgers say exactly what I said, you can hear a mouse peeing on cotton, a bell of it. That's how quiet it be, Ocho.
1:00:56Shannon Sharpe:If you watch the game, if you watch Aaron Rodgers, And you watched last night's game. I was like, Aaron Rodgers missed some throws. He missed DK early in the game. That could have been a big play. Because you know on the road, get a big play on the far cross. A big post. That's a big play. A 40-yard, 40, 50-yard touchdown. Touchdown. On the road? Now you got the crowd sitting on their hands. Ain't nothing to cheer about. He underthrew Austin. I don't know the way Austin was catching the ball last night. He probably threw it back at him. I don't know. I don't know I don't know I'm a little nervous I'm a little hesitant to say it was a surefire catch I'm just saying he might have held on to it but if you watch the game I mean look maybe you don't know if it's a three or five step drop you don't know if it's a zone read maybe you don't know all that stuff but you know if a quarterback's playing well if you watched the game last night even if you're a Steelers fan even if you're the biggest Aaron Rodgers supporter You know he didn't play well last night.
1:01:59Shannon Sharpe:And it's okay to say that. But it's almost like don't say anything bad about my quarterback. Speak honestly about everybody else's quarterback. Just don't say nothing bad about my quarterback. I'm not saying anything bad about him. He just didn't play well. I didn't say he a bad person. I'm just saying he was a bad quarterback last night. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, and the good thing about it too, with him not playing well, it looks good on him. Obviously, you can tell he's actually at the Steelers. and him taking accountability on not playing well. You know, there were no pointing the fingers.
1:02:33No. There were no pointing the fingers. I like that. Which were some issues that he did when he was with the Jets, when certain plays weren't made. And when those plays weren't made and he spoke about it after the game, he actually pointed the fingers. You know, so I'm glad he did that. And the problem what he has, Ocho,
1:02:50Shannon Sharpe:is that he doesn't have enough players on the offensive side of football to lift him up when he's not playing well. See, that's the problem that you run into. because sometimes you get guys that can take a simple route. You're not playing well. They can take a simple route. They can make an acrobatic catch. Give you a prime example. Devontae Smith tonight. You see that catch that he made? See, he save you every time. Yeah. Sometimes guys make plays. You're having a bad game, but a guy can make a play here or there, and all of a sudden you get the win and you didn't play well, but you get guys to elevate you and help the ship rise.
1:03:25Shannon Sharpe:He didn't get that last night. I don't think he has enough of that. Outside of DK, nobody puts fear in my – I think Frymuth is a quality tight end. Now, I'm not taking over McBride or Laporta or anything like that. He's a tier two. He's a tier two. I'm not taking over any of those top guys, but I think he's a solid tight end. But DK is really the only guy, and if you double him, does Austin or any of those other guys put fear in you? No, they don't. They don't. I mean, listen, Calvin Austin III, as fast as he is, as explosive as he is, he should be one that puts fear in defenses. He should be one.
1:04:04I don't know if they use him the correct way to do that. But if I'm not mistaken, he was 4-2. If I'm not mistaken, maybe 4-1, something like that.
1:04:15Shannon Sharpe:Austin III? Yes. He's been playing like Austin I because I can't tell he 4-1, 4-2.
1:04:24Shannon Sharpe:Man, go ahead on him.
1:04:28Shannon Sharpe:I can't tell you that fast. But see, there's a difference between being fast and playing fast because we've seen guys run 4-2 and they play like they run 4-6. And I've seen guys run 4-6 that play like they're 4-3, 4-2. So running fast and playing fast. Jerry played fast. Yeah. Jerry ran 4-6-7, but he played fast. It's one thing to run 4-2 with shorts and a t-shirt. It's another thing to run 4-6, 4-5 with shoulder pads and cleats. Right. Because that's what you play in. So, yeah, I get it. It's nice. Oh, boy, hey, he ran 4-2. I put him in a helmet and put him in some shoulder pads and cleats, and now all of a sudden, no choice.
1:05:12Shannon Sharpe:He played like he run 4-7. Damn, son, I know you faster than that. Yeah, and you know what? There's a thing called players that carry their pads real well. Can you carry your pads? Can you still be as efficient when you're in shorts and shirt when you had a helmet and pads on? That is a thing, which is crazy. But guess what, Ocho? When you run that 40, ain't nobody trying to tear your damn head off. See, when you 4 '2", 4 '2", 4 '3", all you do is get to the safety quicker so he can knock your ass out. That's it. That's it. and one of the funny things I ever heard I forgot who said it I gotta make sure I say it right is I'm just fast enough to make sure the person chasing me can't catch me I don't care nothing about no 40 times all I need to do is be faster than the person that's chasing me that's it that's as fast as you need to be it doesn't do me any good to have all that speed and I don't know how to use it you can have an arsenal of guns don't know how to shoot one can't hit them can't hit nothing so what good is 4-2 speed if you can't use it you can't control it right and i'll run you sharp you probably can but i bet you'll chase me in the end zone i bet you that hey but everything you know everything is big but i love i love the way because a lot of times this is what's rubbed me wrong about Aaron Rodgers is not taking accountability when he played poor or showing up to receivers and talking about do this and do all that.
1:06:58Shannon Sharpe:Don't do that. That's what rubbed me the wrong way about him was a lack of accountability. I got no problem with what he said. He owned it. He didn't play well. He realized in order for them to get to where they need to be or where they want to be, he's going to have to play better because he's the only guy that touches the ball every single snap. And in order for them to get to where they need to be, Ocho, he's got to play better. Yeah. But as you said last night, they got a bunch of names, but them names ain't playing well. We'll leave it at that. Ocho, a photo gone viral of Aaron Rodgers taking a sack last night, captured by Marcio Sanchez of the AP.
1:07:38Shannon Sharpe:And we got hitting that jaw too. Yeah. It's a good thing he got that new helmet on. Man, you better get a motorcycle helmet Hey, that's that's a good hit to boy look here at 41. Oh, I wouldn't try to take no shots like that in my 20 You think I want to take a shot like that in my 40s like that in the floor. Yeah That's a good picture right there That's a good picture he was with it was that was that in the pocket because I'm surprised they didn't call that because you know you can't hit your you can't hit a quarterback with your helmet so he had to be scrambling not not yeah not not not the crown of your helmet that hurt
1:08:26Shannon Sharpe:nah he'd probably thinking i wish i wasn't there rogers hey hey your whole shots hurt man oh so them the one that knock your ass out when you get hit you get caught or you get kneed oh yeah in the right place right here around the decal that knee by accident and it don't even look like it's hard either hold on let me get this out of the door Aaron's like this ain't what I signed up for man if Aaron 40, 41 is he about to be 42 is he already 40
1:09:12Shannon Sharpe:damn yeah Aaron said damn this Aaron said I done made me 300 million dollars I ain't got no sense I ain't I ain't I ain't he done said I done made 3 3 3 50 man later for this I ain't trying to do all I ain't trying to do all this
1:09:30Shannon Sharpe:the accumulation those chat you know those those those Those hits will add up. Aaron Rodgers probably, what, 215? You ain't trying to take no hits like that. Hell, running backs, I mean, Derrick Henry ain't really trying to take no ear hole shot, no jaw shot like that, man. Those-ish adds up.
1:09:52Shannon Sharpe:Man, I know that hurt. That hurt. I got my jaw hurting. I'm thinking about it.
1:10:00Shannon Sharpe:Oh, he bracing for that. I mean at the last second you feel that hit coming you try to brace for it but hey ain't nothing you can do it look oh that's the close-up oh we got yeah I don't blame I don't want to look I don't want to see that either
