Guests

Deion Henley, Chargers linebacker (recent game: 8 tackles, half sack, quarterback hit). He discusses new coaching continuity, leadership, accountability, and preparing for the Raiders. Other voices are host/analysts: Ocho Cinco and Joe (former players), plus discussion of Aaron Rodgers comments and Javonte Williams’ fine.

Key claims

  • Henley says leadership starts with self-accountability and communication, with help from Derwin James and Khalil Mack.
  • He emphasizes respecting Raiders talent and “full force” tackling.
  • Javonte Williams’ taunting fine was “out of character,” and he takes full responsibility; celebration should not hurt the team.
  • Aaron Rodgers says he doesn’t care about target counts; “the ball goes to the open guy.”
  • NFL memo: Daquan Wright and Xavier and Harris are ineligible to visit/try out in 2026 after temporary restraining orders.

Notable examples

2:46Shannon Sharpe:Oh, we got a very special guest joining us. Welcome to the club. Chargers linebacker Deion Henley, eight tackles, half a sack, a quarterback hit. Unfortunately, the Chargers lost to the Cardinals. Deion, bro, bro, hey, you know what the expectations are. Considering what you guys accomplished last year, you know the expectations are even higher this year. What happened? Hold on, hold on now, hold on now. I might be acting like, y 'all, let me make sure. Y 'all can see me? Yeah, we got you. We can hear and see you. Hold on, let me make sure. Oh, here we go. So it's all good. We good? Yeah, we great.

3:22Man, appreciate y 'all having me back in the building, first of all.

3:25Shannon Sharpe:You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? No, I appreciate you coming on. I don't know what you heard. I don't know what you heard. You had a great game last week. You had eight tackles, half a sack, quarterback hit. But unfortunately, you guys lost. You do know what the expectations are, given that you guys went to the playoffs last year. What happened? What went wrong in this game? Coach Harbaugh said he probably should have played y 'all a little more in the preseason because a lot of the things that showed up in that game probably could have been rectified if you had played a little bit more in the preseason.

3:52I mean, just to harp off what he said, I agree 100%. I'm always going to ride with Coach Harbaugh. He knows best, as always. And I think, you feel me, what he's just saying is when you've got new coaching staff, offense, defense, the continuity has to be built. And so for us to get those reps and real game experiences, it's big time. So I 100 % agree with everything he said. I feel me? We can go back in time. I know we'll do it the right way, but right now we're pressing on, moving forward. It happened, and we're trying to make sure it don't happen again.

4:27What's the atmosphere like? Obviously, Wednesday, today's probably the main day when it comes to install. What was the atmosphere like just defensively for you guys? I mean, we know what's ahead of us, right? That's kind of the atmosphere. We are a high-spirited group of individuals that's determined and know that we destined for more. So the energy is up, man. There's no point in looking behind us now. It's just about what's going forward. So we got the right energy, and everybody is ready to install and move forward to the next opponent. And the next opponent is a big one, right? We got the Raiders, and as our coach would say, they count as two.

5:03One win against them count as two just because of our conference and how things set up when we got our divisional opponents. Yeah.

5:11Shannon Sharpe:Hey, you're a young guy, but you're leading this defense. You know, how do you hold guys accountable, bro, on defense? I mean, the first thing first is holding yourself accountable, right? Never be a me-me guy or what I did, right? And I think that's what takes the people from looking at you as just a player to looking at you as a leader, right? So for me, it's not about how I perform, whether it's good, bad, or indifferent. It's about making sure I can hold myself accountable and know that there's things I could have done better from communication to tackling to being in areas I could have been.

5:43And then from there, looking at my teammates and saying, you know, I got your back and you got my back. And that's kind of just what it's been going into this week. And especially with guys like Derwin James and Khalil Mack on my side, just talking to them, their whole thing is, you know, just make sure that we got each other's back at the end of the day.

6:01Shannon Sharpe:When you look at this game, you play the Raiders, that's the division opponent, but you got somebody that you got to really gang tackle. because you look at him, he's not that big, Ashton Gentry. But, boy, is he hard to get on the damn ground. He runs with so much power and he has so much leverage. How do you make sure he doesn't have a game like he had last week to start the season? I mean, like you said, man, all has to the ball. Do your 111, but at the end of the day, make sure you get there. And so for us, it's just like you said, a game tackle, knowing that that guy's an elite talent over there and he's been proving it.

6:32And so for us to make sure that we respect him as such and that he got to make sure he fills all of us. You know what I'm saying? with respect to his talent, he got to make sure that we come full force. And so we got to make sure, and another thing that we know is with a quarterback that they got over there, Kirk is going to make sure that his players get to do what they do best and make plays for him. And so that means he's going to get the ball to him. So we know what to expect with guys like him, and that's big for us moving forward.

6:59Shannon Sharpe:Look, I don't want you to look too far ahead, but you know what the expectations are for yourself because you were basically on the contract year. You want to show that, look here, I'm a leader of this team. I can lead this team into the future. I don't want y 'all to pay me based on what I've done. I want you to pay me based on what you believe I can do and how can I lead this ball club because you know I'm great in the community. I don't cause you any problems, but I want to get compensated for the work that I believe that I'll do moving forward for this organization. Now, you hit it on the nose.

7:28My number one thing right now is staying focused on the season. You know how it go. You got your agents. They handle that type of stuff, that talk for you. And at the end of the day, my job is on that field right now, and it's at the best time possible. I got to pretty much just lean in and depend on what I've been doing my whole life, and that's just playing ball and being good at it. And so with all the woes that may come my way throughout the season, I got to make sure I put one step forward and make sure that I continue to stay consistent in my job. And when something goes wrong, make sure I can battle back.

7:58Because as we know, you feel me, them guys over there get paid and trying to get paid too. so I know they're not going to make the job easy for me. And with that being said, I got to make sure I make the plays I'm supposed to make when I'm supposed to make them.

8:11Shannon Sharpe:Right. Let me ask you this, bro. Being an L.A. guy, how do you determine who gets to come to the game? Because, bro, hey, because you could easily have 20, 30, 40 tickets a night, and you know them tickets. They not – even though your close family, friends, and loved ones might think they are free, they're not free. Those tickets are expensive. I just need to say it too Because I know they watching The tickets ain't free And I'm saying it right now Because I don't say I'll be weak Be weak in knees When I get the text message And I'll be like Cuzzo I got you Or you know what I'm saying I got you I'm weak in knees But since we on the You know The live stage And I ain't gotta say nothing Specifically They ain't free tickets bro Not free And I'm doing it Because I love you But don't take advantage Of my love That's what it comes down to But at the end of the day man More times than not I'm getting the people that I know been there for me throughout my whole life.

9:05I know the people that's been with me through all the ups and the downs. It's easy to say yes to them and to the people that necessarily they might have to miss a game or two or three or the whole season because you ain't been there. Just watch from the couch. Catch me on Nightcap with the OGs. Why did you hold up? Joe, you knew. I was here before you. and they didn't give me a main spot

9:37Shannon Sharpe:we felt that you know we don't want to interfere because the first thing that's gonna happen if you come in on nightcap as a featured guest the first thing that happened if you don't play well man he need to get on nightcap you already know what's gonna happen now respect respect because I didn't I can't I can't get the lemon pepper wings where y 'all was at I might have to miss that night so i gotta be committed to where i'm at that was that was a good good show bravo yeah appreciate that i appreciate the support bro yeah yeah hey look check this out go ahead joe go ahead you go how you go from receiver to linebacker bro jonas it's called talent how you go from receive it i'm saying i'm saying do you do do you miss that position do you ever think like damn boy i should the stuff we receive.

10:26Shannon Sharpe:I could have been a, you know what I mean? I know how I joke, man. You feel me? It's no hokey pokey. All feet in. You know what I'm saying? And at the end of the day, I say I missed the end zone. So that's why I'm trying to get to the end zone. I think that's the number one thing. That might be the biggest thing about being the receiver. Yeah. I missed the end zone. I just, I think I just said the other day, I'm like, man, I got a score in this league. I got a score in the NFL. So I'm definitely motivated to get that pick six because that's an even bigger moment because it doesn't happen often.

10:55And I got guys on my team who've been in the league for a long time on defense. They ain't never touched the end zone. So I want to be a guy to get that done before I'm out. You know what I'm saying? So I'm definitely motivated. I feel you.

11:05Shannon Sharpe:Is that why you guys on the defensive side of football now, when y 'all get a turnover, get an interception, get a scoops, a fumble recovery, you guys run to the end zone because you missed that opportunity? Because a lot of you guys did play on the offensive side of football when you were younger, and you scored a lot. And so now, like, hey, I just want to get to the end zone because, you know, maybe I really will get to the end zone and have the referee raise his own. Hey, man, we ain't all blessed enough to be Shannons and Ochos. So we got to get to the end zone any way we can. You know what I'm saying?

11:36We got to get there. When you was in L.A., right, and you played receiver, who you played for? Man, when I was in L.A. Yeah. I didn't play no receiver in L.A. I was at Crenshaw High School. Hold on, you a cougar? Ocho, man. I thought you was a Dorsey Don.

12:02Shannon Sharpe:They rivals, man. They don't do something bad like that, Ocho. Is he trolling me? Oh, I... Oh, no, I'm dead homies. Hey, yo, you too old to be doing this. Ocho, you too old to be doing this. Lock in with me, Ocho. Cougar free. Google free. And you know better. You know, he done been around these parts. You know better. Oh, did my camera turn off on y 'all? Hey, you know how you said it? Yeah, your camera turned off there, y 'all. It got real, it got real. Let me, let me, let me, let me, let me. Let me bring y 'all in. Hold up, it got real, my camera might not. But you got my, you got my voice.

12:40Yeah, we got you now. We got you locked in. Yeah, yeah. Hey, D, you know, you know, hey, listen. You know when I went to Santa Monica, you know I lived in the third building in the jungles, all Coliseum. You went to Santa Monica? Yeah, I went to LA. 97, 98, 99. You see how they had to change angles on you real quick? Right, right, right. Let me tell you why I changed angles. Because shit got serious. You playing with me. Now I got the upper hand on you now. You went to Santa Monica and you lived in the jungles? Yeah. Yeah, in the third building. I was dating a girl named Roxy at the time. I don't know if y 'all know the difference in places from the jungles to Santa Monica.

13:22Shannon Sharpe:I know a big difference in Santa Monica. I lived in LA for 10 years. I know a very big difference. I'm saying that's a big identity crisis. OG, who was you? Who was you trying to be? No, my grandma kicked me out. My grandma kicked me out. She said, I can no longer do it. I washed my hands with you. She sent me to my mama. My mama was living in LA. She was living in Baldwin Hills. off a stalker and the address was 4565 Don Sommaso Drive. I never forget. Apartment number one. So I'm right there. I used to be up at the park. I used to go to Kenneth Hawn and Run. I met a little chick named Roxy. She sold weed back then.

14:03She sold weed back then. Stayed in the third building and me and her ex used to get into it all the time and they were Bleepy. You feel me? We used to get into it all the time. You said they were tussling, Deon. I was over there with them boys man yeah me t rogers man i can maybe i go way back personally i don't be over there in parks i don't be in them parks yeah i i know i know i know but i i got family over there too i got loved ones over there too but yeah you you supposed to be a santa monica boy i i i am my mom from santa monica so my granny lived in santa monica my mom from santa monica I got a lot of people over there too now He over there by the river You know my son My son went to Venice High So you sent him You made sure he lived in a nice area No I had him when I was out there Oh you was all over the place Yeah That's what they used to say

15:01Shannon Sharpe:Hey Uck you lived in LA too I did I did I was in Homby Hills though Where? What is that? I was, you know, the Playboy Mansion? I was right down the street from the Playboy Mansion. In between Brentwood and Beverly Hills. Damn. He got money. Hey, you used to go over there? You used to go to the Playboy Mansion? No, he had to. I did not go over there. No, no, no, no. It wasn't, by the time I got there, it wasn't what it used to be. So you. I got there in 2016. I was there from 2016. No, I was there eight years, from 2016 to 2024. So you missed all the play. Yeah, I missed all the play. But I wasn't there for that day.

15:51Shannon Sharpe:You know, I'm a purpose guy. Whatever my purpose is, that's what I'm there for. You know, hey, there's a time and a place for all that, but I'm more purpose-driven than fun-driven. That's PR right there, y 'all. Ladies and gentlemen, that's PR. That's PR. Because at the end of the day, you could have said any location you was next to, and you chose that one. Okay. I was right. Okay. How about this here? You say you didn't understand what Harbaugh Hills was, so I had to give you a general location because everybody know what a playboy is. hey, Joe ain't mentioning. I'm right there next to Bel-Air.

16:27That could have been good. You could have said that. You could have said that. Okay. And Joe, you was in LA too at some point?

22:52Shannon Sharpe:Cowboys running back Javante Williams was fined for taunting after scoring in the fourth quarter with 521 to go. He was asked about the penalty today and said that was out of character. You don't have to worry about me no more. I hurt the team. That's on me. I take full accountability and responsibility. From here on out, you don't have to worry about me celebrating at all. Ain't that what I'm talking about? You ain't got to go that far. Yeah, you do. Exactly. Look, look, look. Just don't talk. Hold on. He can enjoy himself. He can celebrate without hurting the team. Yes. I did it. Joe, I did it for 10, 11 years.

23:24you don't want to talk don't don't taunt your opponent but you can have some fun you can have some fun enjoy yourself it's hard to score uncle joe and people always talk about oh act like you've been there before why i haven't yeah i haven't i worked my ass off to get to this point in life to play at the highest level when i score i'm going to celebrate

23:48Shannon Sharpe:it's just it's just unfortunate when when your celebration hurts the team uncle ocho and the guy goes up there and he got to kick a kick and he ends up missing, it hurts, bro. So that's a mistake that young man had to learn from. Like you say, I'm with it, man. Go out there and do your job. Don't worry about all the celebrating. Yeah, there's things that you can do that won't hurt the team. But come on, you know you can't turn like that now. Yeah, you can't stick the ball out to the guy's face. Stick the ball out at him, man. Hey, you can't get a peace sign while you're running like Tyreek. Yes.

24:18You can't do nothing.

24:19Shannon Sharpe:And that's one of the reasons they changed it. They changed the rule because of Tyreek, you know, peacing people out. Yeah.

24:26Shannon Sharpe:I love the fact that the man says, I accept responsibility and accountability. He's accountable for his actions. He says, I'm responsible for that 15-yard penalty. They ended up having to push the kicker back, and he's got to kick a 50-yard PAT. That's on me. I agree with you, Ocho, in this sentiment. You can celebrate without getting a penalty, without taunting someone. You know that. It's just like anything. You catch a pass. You know you can't stand up over the guy. You know you can't drop the ball in the guy's chest. You know if you catch a pass, you can't shove him the ball. You already know these things.

24:59Shannon Sharpe:Don't say the NFL soft because the rules are implicit. You can't do that. Right. You already know you can't do something to stand up over the guy. Okay. Hey, Unc, but you know, you do know, Ocho, you know, in the midst of competition. Yes, sir. You know, you can kind of get lost at times. I ain't saying that those dudes don't know the consequences to their actions. But at the same time, I can see how you can get lost in the game and you may catch and stand over a dude. You know what I mean? I can kind of see how some of these things happen. But, yeah, they do cost you. They cost your team, brother.

25:36Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. I mean, I've done that. I've taught a guy. I caught a touchdown pass in 93, and I was running with the end zone. The guy was chasing me. I had the ball like this here. And he swiped at it. I pulled it in. I did. But you know, it wasn't a penalty back then. I mean, they let you get away with a lot of stuff back then. They don't change the rules now. But you understand the rules. The rules are what they are now. Yeah. If that had been a rule back then, hey, I wouldn't have done it. But since it wasn't a rule, because you don't – hey, what are you guys – you remember a guy who used to catch a pass and the guy getting up and you first downed right on top of his head?

26:16Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You can't do that now. Nah. You know, you can make the gesture, but it just can't be towards him. Exactly. Exactly. That's exactly right, Ocho. Yeah. Aaron Rodgers says he don't give a bleep about how many targets a player get after a reporter told him Roman Wilson was tied for second on the team last week. Take a listen to what A-Rod had to say. I was tied for second on the target list last week. What have you seen from last year of the mission? I don't give a shit about the target list. I don't care about any of that. I love Roman. I think he's done a great job. You know, I think there's going to be a player, too, that he makes that allows him to take off.

27:02I thought he played fast last week. I thought he played decisive, and I think he's just going to keep on getting better. Why do you not give a bleep about the target list? Because the ball goes to the open guy. So I don't want to hear people talking about – Nobody in the locker room talks about their targets. So that's all for you guys to talk about. Has that always been the case in your career as far as guys not talking about targets, or is it different here from what you saw? There's certain guys that need to get targets, and everybody else gets in the flow. That's the reality of just about every offense in the league.

27:37Ocho? I kind of like that. I agree with that. And most of the time, certain players don't have to worry about their targets because the one and two are going to get there. It's not a joke. Exactly.

27:45Shannon Sharpe:You heard what he said at the end, Ocho. What'd he say? Huh? He said certain guys get targets, the other guys got to get in the flow. Yeah. Yeah. And listen, that's always been the way it's been designed. Always, Uncle Joe. You know, just like basketball, I've come to learn, you know, listening to you and Uncle, and obviously learning a little bit more about the game, there's a pecking order on who can shoot. Who gets the green light to shoot more than others, depending on who you are. There's a pecking order that says who gets the balls, who gets the most balls. Yeah. In fact, when players are called, players are called specifically for your number one.

28:19Well, if they cover your number one, those balls are going to your number two. If they're taking the number eight away too much, now that's where coaches have to scheme your number one open because he has to touch the ball more times than often. Why? Because he can do things the rest of the receiving court can't.

28:36Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. That's the way that works. And the elite ones, the elite quarterbacks, Ocho, they know and understand that. like like a rod he know he know who he has to get into the flow of the game and who's gonna get targets you know what i mean like he ain't no guy he ain't out there trying to force feed nobody like he said in the interview hey man the ball goes to the open guy you know what i'm saying so like he ain't coming out there premeditating on what it is he reading and reacting yeah you feel what i'm saying and i feel like that's what the elite quarterbacks do bro if you if you can get open that man gonna find you bro.

29:12Shannon Sharpe:Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well, Uncle, Uncle. You know he got that little weak bladder, man. You know he got that naked. Oh, he probably went to do number two. Oh, man. Well, it don't make it. You can tell by the way he got up out the chair. Okay, well, it don't make him no bad, brother. Hell yeah. It don't, it don't. He probably gonna come back and say that that's not what it was, but that's what it was. Yeah, he got it. Hey, can I ask you a question though? Talk to me. like you really think the Cowboys gonna win come on oh damn I'm just talking about A-Rod man we talking about A-Rod you talking about the Cowboys again I know I know but but we want to be able to have a time a chance to chime in so I wanted I wanted to change the subject until you know we ain't changing the subject we still on what you think man that man talk man no he understands DK and Pittman Jr they gonna get targets other guys fill in the blanks Yeah, and guys didn't talk about target, maybe not in front of him.

30:08Shannon Sharpe:Oh, no. Guys, damn sure, talking about target behind his back. Right, right. Hey, hey, hey, hey, what they talking about? I'm in hell. I'm just out here running wind sprints. Hell, I ain't getting no target. Hey. Hey, getting to get my cardio in. I'm just getting cardio. Hey, when you the fourth or fifth guy, that's basically what you're getting a lot of cardio in. Because they're looking for one, two, three. Damn, they covered all guys. I guess I throw it to you. Hey, and the funny part about it, that number three and that number four, sometimes even that number five, you always get the opportunity when you least expect it, and it's the play that can change the game.

30:43Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Every time. It always happens like that. Every time. Yeah, but I agree with Aaron. The thing is that I'm not – look, there are certain guys you're one and two, you might try to throw them open. Three and four? Nah, bro. you need to be open and I'll throw you the ball. Watch it. DK and Pittman, he's going to try to get them the ball. The other guys are going to need to be open for them to get the ball. That's just the way it works. There's a reason why they want it too. That's why DK makes the money that he makes. That's why Pittman Jr. makes the money that he makes. Those are the guys that are counting on.

31:22Shannon Sharpe:Those are the guys that Aaron Rodgers like the rubber needs to meet the road. These are the guys that I need to try to get the football to. Right. Hey, no matter what happens, man, it's a pecking order in all these damn sports. Same thing with basketball. You know what I mean? Pretty much the top guys who are making the most money, them first two guys, they can shoot it whenever they get ready, okay? But that's how it should be. The top guys, what you make, you make the most money. I should expect the most for you. So you think the fourth guy on the team should be able to get the table to take the same amount of shot as the one or two guy on the team?

32:00Shannon Sharpe:Nah. Hell nah. I love J-Dub, but he ain't taking as many shots in shape. He better not. Yeah, now he get going, okay, fine. But y 'all already know, it works when everybody understands their role. Right. Everybody has a role. No matter what sport you play, everybody has a role. What is your role? Your role is not to get no 21, 22 shots a night. That's not your role. Build your role. do your job do your responsibility sometimes your role might be a now i ain't gonna say be like chan hungry take two damn shots because that's not your role either but anyway people get people get the gist of what i'm trying to say but no i i don't i don't have it look a ross i don't give a bleep about how many targets a player again you know what and you get other than my one and two and you know you can tell he meant that too yeah why wouldn't he they were all like man i got what is this year 22 year 22 he don't hey he don't care he ain't trying to hit none of that get open matter of fact and the ones getting open catch the damn ball

33:17that's the key

33:20Shannon Sharpe:look there are a couple of plays on Sunday DK did get interfered with but there's a couple of plays DK gotta come down with that football yeah

33:33Shannon Sharpe:as a one

33:38Shannon Sharpe:you have to make plays that people don't think they're like no no no no I get it Yes, he was interfered with, but that's why we play you the big bucks. Yeah. No excuses. They don't let ones have excuses. I mean, and that's the thing, because John would always tell me, he's like, hey, if I made a play, he'd say, that's like you. That's what I expect from you. That's why in crucial situations, he would throw me the ball. Yeah. Then Rod came along and started stealing my thunder. But that's how it works, man. You've got to make those plays. Everybody can make the routine, Ocho. Right. What makes you unique?

34:22What makes you different is making that tough play.

34:26Shannon Sharpe:Mm-hmm. Everybody want the ball in the first quarter. Boy, hey, when you down by three, you down by four, and you need a game-winning drive? Crunch time. How many people say, hey, I'm open. Hey, check me out on that dig. How many people saying that?

34:48Shannon Sharpe:I know there's a lot of people on that first quarter. Man, I was open. If he gave me a look, I was open. Come for a quarter. Hey, what you got over there, man? Well, damn. First of all, if they weren't covering you in the first quarter and we didn't throw you the ball, I tried to figure out why all of a sudden they want to clamp you down in the fourth quarter. But okay. Hey, you the boy don't want no smoke, boy. Ocho, two minutes left. It's a nip and tuck game, one point game, tie game. Coach in the huddle drawing up plays. You can tell who want the ball and you can tell who like, hell nah, don't pass it to me, okay?

35:34Shannon Sharpe:They be out there playing hot potato with the ball, huh, Joe? Yeah, they just get as far away from the ball as they can, Ocho. So you can tell guys who really don't want that smoke, bro. It's fun to see too. Yeah. Hey, Cobb, everybody don't want that responsibility. That pressure. Everybody wants to catch the ball, especially. If you notice, watch when a team get a lead and they throw the ball to the third or the fourth guy and watch how he make plays. He making one-hand plays. He's doing all that. Now, let that game get close and they throw it to him. Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop. Like, well, damn, son, you playing volleyball, you serving it up.

36:19Shannon Sharpe:Catch the ball. It's not that difficult, but everybody – but there's a reason. Everybody has a responsibility, has a job to do on a team. Everybody can't be number one. They can't – everybody, man, if they gave me as many targets they gave Ocho, I could do that. No, you can't. No, you can't. because if they thought you could, they would. Yeah, right. It ain't that complicated. If they thought you could do what Ocho could do, they give you an opportunity. But what have you shown them in practice? What have you shown them in the game that would make them say, you know what, we need to draw a few plays up for him.

36:57Shannon Sharpe:They think they're getting locked up in practice. What they're doing, they're drawing up plays for Ocho. Hey, Joe, they're going to get that work, Joe. and come out in practice or you tell my yeah joe i'm taking i'm taking our our our team yeah and i'm doing scout team joe huh yeah i ain't doing all that yeah i ain't doing all that neither but i did like the practice i like to practice and compete whether it was first team gets second team especially when your second teams are pretty good you know what i mean basketball you know you got your second unit sometime here they can be playing a lot better than your first unit yeah so to have them scrimmages and practice like i used to love that more than anything bro i just used to love hooping okay oh man just roll the ball out there yeah we got to do all this you know before practice starts stretch three man weave and i mean like get ready to fluff throw the ball up let's hoop straight up you like me joe i want i want i i'm i'm trying to talk ish yeah You done been doing all that talking, man.

38:04Shannon Sharpe:If I was on another team, I'd lock you up. Well, you on this team. And guess what? In two minutes, you get an opportunity to do that. Yeah, yeah. Let's see what you got. Hey, hey. And in basketball, it'll go too far in practice. You have guys go a little too far, which is, you know, expected. Yeah, expected from time to time. Guys get into the little scuffles and all that. Ocho, it happens. Okay. It happens, man. It happens. No. Look, all I ask is don't tug my shirt. Because you know what I'm saying, Ochoa, sometimes when you break it away and you hear that tug, you make me tweak my hamstring.

38:37Shannon Sharpe:Now I'm going to hit you in the face with the football. Other than that, I'm good. Because I already know what type of guy they're going to be clutching and grabbing in the game. So I'm used to it. I'm cool with that. I'm going to cook you. You're getting cooked regardless. It don't matter what you do. You can't guard me, bro. And now, because the thing I love about two minutes, that ain't scripted. they call him plays out of the blue so you can't look at the sheet and see what do what hey what we running it nah nah nah nah nah nah nah you got you got to play honest you got to play honest so now oh what happened oh because see and what they call them they tell you you've got to run to an area you you covered yeah nothing here bro yeah i saw you look at the sheet you know i'm running now all of a sudden i gave you two steps to the post and you still on my hip yeah yeah okay yeah hey that's what that's what that's what i like when it comes to the dvs on top of the ones that are really good that don't know what's gonna happen 95 of db and joke they play the game not to get beat yeah play the game not to get beat and it's a five percent that play the game to make a play yeah okay that that five percent real is real small yeah we talked about going joe before you go i was going to say ocho we talked about this the other night you see uh mesador picked that ball he read that thing like a book did you know why ocho he said i'm supposed to be inside so even though the db released outside i mean the corner the wide receiver released outside and gave him nod outside.

40:15Shannon Sharpe:He said, I supposed to be in here. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't care what you ought to go here. If you go out there, coach, hey, I got inside. I got inside. He breakout. He had me. Hey, he said, I'm supposed to be inside. He, wide receiver released outside, gave him a stem at the top. He said, man, oh, thank you. That another dude, he's supposed to be at the seven. and stayed on his hip on the inside, ran to the center, ran the route for him. Hey. Ran the route for him. I say, damn. That's what being disciplined gets you. Yes. Them DBs, they damn done running them routes for them wide receivers out there sometimes seem like.

40:59Shannon Sharpe:Because here's the thing. Where they get in trouble at is that they're trying to get – if you got outside leverage, just stay outside. I don't care what you do inside. You give me all the hair fake you want to on the inside. If I got outside, I'm staying outside. Yeah, yeah. But I get it. It's hard. It's easier said than done because just your luck the one time you don't go for it. Hey, that's what you're going to do. And then boom. You're going the other way. You just got to be disciplined. You just got to understand what they're doing. I don't care where you line up at. I don't care what you do.

41:34Shannon Sharpe:All I know is I already know is window dressing. All I know is I already window dressing. You ain't doing nothing. You ain't doing none of that. All that bluffing and lining up and doing all this moving around. All you're doing is making yourself tired, bro. I don't believe in anything that you say, anything that you're doing. So I don't really care to think about that. But it seems to me that Aaron Rodgers has a profound like for Roman Wilson. He spoke highly of him. Even though he messed up that ride, said something wrong with him. You've been working on Roman and he's gotten better. But, hey, that was Roman.

42:13Shannon Sharpe:He made a mistake.

42:18Shannon Sharpe:It's when quarterback of that ill believes in you and speaks about you in the media when he doesn't have to, I would take that like, you know what? That guy believes in me. Yeah. That guy believes in me because that's how it was with me and John. I don't know where you have you had a Kidna kid. It was not with you. Oh, it was there for two years before you. Yeah I had I had kidnap Scott Mitchell and Gus for rock. Oh, okay Damn. Yeah John kiddo throwing that thing now. Hey, he would a he would let that thing I played against the kid when he was in seattle. Yeah, you know kid to remind me of like he just throws a catchable ball He reminded me of Sam Dono a little bit.

43:12Okay. I can see that. Yeah. Okay. It's the difference between trying to talk to your friends over the music at a bar and having dinner where you can actually hear each other. 46:51Shannon Sharpe:Double dipping will catch you slipping. The NFL has sent a memo to teams informing them that Daquan Wright and Xavier and Harris are ineligible to visit or try out with them during the 2026 season. Wright and Harris were granted a temporary restraining order that allowed them to return to college football this season. But the backlash from conferences over the plan to side with LSU ultimately ended the possibility. Any sympathy for these guys? No. Go to Canada. No. You can't this year. You stuck like Chuck. Hey, if you love football like you say you do and you want to play, go down to Canada and prove yourself.

47:28Go down to Canada and prove yourself. You know, you wanna play football. And if you think it's easy, go down there and watch what happened. You saying they gotta go get it out the mud. Hey, Joe, it ain't no mud. Boy, it's the real deal down there in Canada, boy.

47:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you got to love football if you go down there playing. Yeah, Joe, now think about this now. I know it's Canada. A lot of people don't respect the CFL, obviously, because the first thing we look at is they don't make the kind of money we make here in the NFL. But Joe, it ain't no different. When it comes to the state, we have your elite players in the NFL. Yeah. They're in a class of their own. But when it comes to the two, three, the fours, it's no different than down there. It's the same level of talent because just a bunch of people from the States. That's all it is. And obviously they have an allotment for Canadian players.

48:16But there's only so many spots on the NFL roster. and there are other dudes that love the game that couldn't play number crunching politics might have made mistakes in college and didn't get the opportunity to make it to the NFL where do you think they playing at Joe?

48:35when I tell you it was a wake up call when I went down there in Canada that one year and I thought but you wasn't Ocho there

48:41Shannon Sharpe:you was Chad Coach Belichick had done script you of Ocho yeah but think about this it's just the mindset of I think it's going to be easy and it was a huge wake up call because I get there and it ain't like that I had to lay some shoes up tight Joe I really had to go I really had to go and I'm talking to dudes and I'm seeing dudes week to week and we playing different games we playing Ottawa we playing Saskatchewan we playing the Argonauts yeah Argonauts I'm missing some of the names but I'm like dude why are you here why are you in canada i'm not the one of the rough rides and you're looking like dudes i see on sunday for the past decade yeah i messed up in school i got in trouble or i didn't know i i had i had a warrant and it's always something that happened that didn't allow them to get to the nfl i said about joe i know what it's supposed to look like and i'm looking at y 'all, I'm like, ain't no way in hell you're not on the 53-man roster somewhere in the States.

49:50And everybody had a story about something that happened in college. It just, every time. And I'm like, nah.

49:57Shannon Sharpe:No, I don't, the question was, do I feel, no. Because guess what? You should have just said, hey, look here. I'm done with college, and what I'm going to do, I'm going to try to make a team. If I get cut, hopefully I get a try, get a call, and I'm going to try to make that team. Nah, you tried to be slick. Now look at you. now you're in purgatory you can't go back to college you can't try for a team in the NFL now look at your stuff what happens next year? How does that work? they can't get drafted again but the team can sign them as a free agent hey hold on I get what y 'all are saying these kids were trying to take advantage of the loophole that was in college football and it didn't happen I don't necessarily blame them for that I blame the system for that now considering the fact that if they ain't NFL material and they were trying to go back and capitalize off college football all right that's one thing but if you got an opportunity to play in the NFL and you got talent I think you should pursue that bro I don't understand why you would be trying to go back to college but I understand the loophole that was in it so take advantage of it but these guys should I mean they I mean the NFL man hey what we talking about yeah But that's the thing, though, Joe.

51:14Shannon Sharpe:They tried to get slick. Yeah. They're like, well, you know, I ain't made the NFL. Let me go back there and get me some NIL money. Nah, bro, you grown now. It's time to man up. Just try to man up. You won't be the first person that got cut, had to go out and try for several teams. Look at James Harrison is a great story. The man got cut three or four times, turned himself into a defensive player of the year, a multiple-time All-Pro, Nah, bro. It happens. D-Boy ain't trying to let me go back to Kent State. Huh? Hey, hey, hey. You gotta be cut from a different cloth to move like that, though. I'm saying when you feel like you ain't good enough and you gotta get back to the drawing board, Ocho, come on, man.

If you come in with expectations or no expectations and you're like, look, they don't think I can play and then you take yourself into a defensive player of the year? Come on, man. You got to be a little different now. Yeah. But you can't give up at the slightest. See, those guys gave up at the slightest, though, Joe, and they tried to go back to college. They gave him out.
