In short

Sports news and roster/league discussion focused on major NFL moves (Eagles trading A.J. Brown to the Patriots; Odell Beckham Jr. signing with the Giants; Russell Wilson retiring to join CBS), plus debate about how these changes affect team performance and player legacies.

Guest backgrounds

The episode appears to be hosted/discussed by NFL personalities “Ocho” and “Joe” (with “Uncle Ocho” mentioned), who speak from lived NFL experience; specific guest names aren’t clearly identified in the transcript.

Key claims

  • Eagles trade A.J. Brown to the Patriots for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick; Eagles can split Brown’s $40M cap hit after June 1.
  • Eagles’ offense will still be strong despite Brown’s departure, citing Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and a new offensive coordinator (Sean Manion), plus the idea that defenses will be forced to cover other receivers.
  • Patriots’ receiving corps could benefit from Brown reuniting with Mike Vrabel.
  • Odell Beckham Jr. returns to the Giants as “insurance,” but the biggest question is whether Malik Nabers can start healthy and whether OBJ/Juju can still create separation.
  • Russell Wilson is retiring from playing and joining CBS; debate centers on whether he’s a Hall of Fame-level quarterback.

Notable examples

  • Discussion of Eagles route predictability and the need for Hurts to throw with anticipation.
  • Giants: Nabers health, OBJ/Juju separation, Matt Nagy offensive concepts, Jackson Dart’s running/concussion risk.
  • Wilson: career totals (46,966 yards; 353 TDs; 10 Pro Bowls; Super Bowl ring) and Hall of Fame debate.

0:38You think the Jonas Brothers are satisfied? Nope. It's podcast time. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Hey Jonas is available now and their first guest is a big one, Paul Rudd. You know, Steve Carell is a great singer. Can you tell you not to audition at The Office or something? I told him. Whoa. We were filming Anchorman. Clearly I was the idiot. Thank God he didn't listen to me, right? Listen to Hey Jonas on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Everyone sees me as a football player, but before anything else, I'm human.

1:10Every single day, I'm still learning how to live with problems, mistakes, relationships, emotions, ever since I was born. This isn't a normal podcast.

1:17Shannon Sharpe:Everything here is just spontaneous, real, and genuine. Just honest conversations about what it means to be alive. I'm Javier Chicharito Hernandez and listen to Learning to be Human on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

1:53that game seven, Marquis coming to you, he's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place. I'm Akilah Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.

2:20Chad Johnson:As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about wouldn't meant that I grew up in a majority black city in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslaved people. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

2:36Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe! Yo! I mean, Nightcap, you know. But anyway, y 'all, this AJ Thryon thing, I mean, nobody on Nightcap is surprised by this. But anyway, the Eagles are trading AJ Thryon to the Patriots for a first round draft pick in 2028 and a 2027 fifth round draft pick. And guess what? The Patriots will receive A.J. Brown. A physical is being pended. Hopefully there's not a situation like a Max Crosby situation. There was a report, I don't know how true it is, that Jerry Burns had reached out to Max Crosby. You saw that? How do you get that straight rescinding? By waiting until June 1st, the Eagles can now split Brown's$40 million salary cap charge between 26 and 27.

3:25Shannon Sharpe:GM Howard Roseman said, I think that he just felt for his family at this stage of his career, it was something that he was desiring and that he was looking forward to. In all of our conversation, he was very, very positive about his experience in Philly. Just felt like going forward here, that was not something that he preferred. hey Ocho I will let you I will let you say Ocho and Ocho yeah I mean a lot of people obviously we said it when the season was still going on we talked about early in the season we talked about October you know around November when things weren't going well he was still upset obviously having conversations with the owner and there were still problems on the field you can see the frustration lingering going into year two of having same said problems the problem with the officer coordinator the problem with the pray call the problem with the play calling the the the rifts and in the disconnect you know between Jalen Hurst and AJ Brown you could see it coming but a lot of a lot of Eagles fans were like no it's no problem you know we're winning we're winning but obviously AJ Brown understanding that this thing we're winning but I'm suffering I'm suffering because I want to contribute to said wins.

4:45Absolutely. Obviously there were some opportunities late in the season where, you know, the bell, the bell was called. And you were called on to make those plays and he didn't do it. He didn't do it. You know, he dropped some balls. So it was time. It was time for this relationship, you know, to, to, to, to, to go, to go their separate ways. And I said that the best place for AJ Brown to go is to go to a coach that was familiar with him, with him and what he can and can't do. and that would be with Mike Rabel down there in New England.

5:14Chad Johnson:Yeah. And, you know, obviously now it has happened. A lot of people, you have to replace talent with talent. And by no means are they going to be able to replace A.J. Brown's talent or production right away. I understand they have Makai Lemon, great player in college. Will it be able to transition into the NFL? We don't know yet. I know Makai Lemon looked good when he was in college. Coming to the NFL is still completely different. This is not a Justin Jefferson. This is not a Jamar Chase where you can plug him and play. You know what he's going to give you right off the bat. I'm sure they'll be able to put him in position to be able to make the plays.

5:50Devontae Smith, what are they going to do for 18 games straight? Wherever Slim Reaper, wherever Smitty lines up, we doubling him. We're going to make everybody else beat us. They got to prove they can get open. They got to prove they can get open. Because if they don't, it's going to be hell.

6:11Chad Johnson:Yeah. I'm still a, you know what? I'm still excited for the Eagles. I still have the Eagles. No disrespect to your Cowboys. I still have the Eagles winning the NFC East. Damn. Still. Damn. I said no disrespect, Joe. All right. No disrespect. How's it meant, Joe? That's all go over there. You see? Yeah. That's all go over there. It's the game.

6:37Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you a question. let me ask you this if somebody say your kid look just like your girl but your girl ugly as F what are you saying

6:51Chad Johnson:okay

6:53Shannon Sharpe:if somebody prefaces something by saying respectfully I don't mean no disrespect how is he saying it disrespectfully I didn't say anything disrespectfully the Eagles are still the Eagles They're just missing. He's just expecting your cowboy, Joe.

7:10Chad Johnson:But I'm saying, how you so sure, Ocho, that they gonna be so great without A.J. Brown? I'm happy for A.J., you know what I mean? It's hard when one of your best players are disgruntled. Yes. You know what I mean? You ain't gonna get the best out of him. This is what he wanted. He wanted an opportunity to get back to playing and being that top receiver. He wanna put up them numbers, man. Yes, sir. That's what A.J., when he ain't out there trying to be no pedestrian, hey, he just fly up now now now he ain't out there for no wind sprint that man wanna he want touchdowns and yards can i can i tell you why i believe they still gonna be you know a top contender why for one they still for one they still have saquon barkley for one the head coach is syrionic for two they have a new officer coordinator in sean manion yeah look at where he come from if i'm not mistaken onk he's coming from the green bay Packers right you can come he coming from that tree the Green Bay Packers creativity having receivers knowing what to do put them in different positions to be able to make the plays not being as predictable as Petula's offense was last year the fact that uncle and I could watch the Eagles game and tell you exactly what routes AJ Brown was running based on his alignment based on what side of field is field it was on based on down the distance it was too predictable too predictable if we can predict it and we sit at home imagine what the goddamn player can do that a watch that a watch film all week and playing the game against the Eagles.

8:33But Ocho, if they got

8:34Chad Johnson:eight in the damn box on the Eagles and you making Hurts throw the ball, damn, he got to make some plays, bro. I mean, he gonna make them. He gonna make them. He gonna be alright. He gonna be better this year. He gonna be better this year. Listen, they got Hollywood Brown. They got Makai Lemon. Obviously, they have Slim Reef and Devontae Smith. They're going to be alright. The one thing I want Jalen Brown, I'm talking about Jalen Hurts, Jalen Hurts, to be able to do is to be able to trust his eyes and his anticipatory skills and letting the ball go, not waiting until receivers are wide open and then throwing it.

9:09Trusting yourself and throwing them open. That's pretty much it. Outside of that, I think the Eagles are still going to be very, very good because they still got Saquon. That offensive line is still one of the best in the league, if not the best, and they're going to be fine. Makai Lemon is going to have to hit that learning curve and hit the ground running. He's going to have to hit the ground running right away.

9:31Shannon Sharpe:I just think the thing is you have to look at, look how Hurts was brought up playing the quarterback position by not doing what, Ocho? Joe, turning the ball over. Right. Look at him. His dad was his coach in high school. He learned the bulk of his career under Nick Saban. When he took over in Philadelphia, what did they say? They ran the football, very safe passes. Now to try to get him out of that, it's hard. Yeah. Because for the better part of his career, you told him to protect the ball. Don't put the ball in harm's way. You don't put the ball in harm's way, we can win. We're going to play through our defense.

10:08Shannon Sharpe:We're going to play behind our running game. It's hard. I'm not saying it can't be done, but I'm saying it's just hard when that's how you've been brought up most of your career.

10:20Chad Johnson:I agree. I agree. but I'm not surprised.

10:27Shannon Sharpe:I think the thing is what we try to give the chat, Joe, when we talk football and the same thing which you do in basketball is that we try to take the chat inside the locker room and we try to take them in situations that in my 14 years, Ocho, 10, 11 years, your experience in the NBA, what we've seen, what we've been around, not only just the NFL, but in college and in high school. So you're talking about 20 plus years of experience, lived experience. There's a difference. You said you want players, be it whatever, no matter what the sport, when they talk about it, you want them to have played the game.

11:09Right.

11:10Shannon Sharpe:We played the game. I'm telling you something, a lived experience. Mm-hmm. it don't make me no different if AJ Brown stays or goes based on my knowledge and my experience this is how I believe it's going to end that's it nothing more nothing less through my personal experience my humble opinion this is how it's going to end Miles Garrett Ocho I'm just saying for 40 million dollars they can finish in last place and pay somebody $10 million.

11:52Chad Johnson:Absolutely.

11:54Shannon Sharpe:That's it. If you win the Super Bowl and you say, well, that's it. It really wasn't what I thought it was. You lead the team in reception. You lead the team in yards. You go to the Pro Bowl and you still... Ain't nothing else I can do for you, Ocho. Ain't nothing else I can do. If you buy your girl the most expensive Birkin bag so you get every one of them, you get the You get the Kelly, you get the Mini, you get the Himalaya. You take, hey, you get a G-Wagon truck. You say, baby, for the next two months, we going to the Maldives, we going to Bali, we going to the Malfi Coast, week eight, and don't buy nothing.

12:38Shannon Sharpe:And when you get back, and she say,

12:44Shannon Sharpe:you're like damn what's wrong nothing what you supposed to do Ocho that's somebody that's just not happy there that's not saying she can't be happy she's just not happy there I'm not saying AJ Brown can't be happy it just appeared to me he was no longer happy there and when someone is not happy someplace

13:12Shannon Sharpe:person that doesn't want to be there you can't buy them enough you can't do enough things when somebody doesn't want to be there you can't do enough I ain't telling what somebody doing again I try to give you life lived experiences yes sir and when a person doesn't want to be somewhere you can't do enough

13:37Chad Johnson:absolutely right yeah I mean it didn't run its course Uncle Joe it didn't run its course so I'm glad for both sides they both move on AJ Brown now in New England with Drake May you know Jalen Hurts you got Smitty new officer coordinator new players new regime Petunia was terrible I mean Petunia my bad

14:04Shannon Sharpe:I said Petunia. I don't know why I said that. My bad. I'm sorry. That slipped. It didn't. That man was terrible. Yeah. New offensive coordinator, Sean Minion. I think I said it right. Yeah. I'm excited. I'm excited for the Eagles. I'm excited. The defense is still going to be good. I think he was a quarterback, didn't he? Wasn't he a quarterback at Oregon State? Manion. He was? Sean Minion. I think so. Wasn't he a quarterback at one point in time?

14:40Shannon Sharpe:Where'd he go to school? That's Ocho, he went to Oregon State, and Ocho don't even know the man.

14:48Chad Johnson:Oh man.

14:52Chad Johnson:I was in college for four months. What you mean my school? You're alumni bro. I ain't alumni. Joe, I was there for four months.

15:13Shannon Sharpe:I ain't even put my stuff in the dress. I had a suitcase, man, on the floor. Just taking my clothes off. That's it, boy. Hey, Joe, I ain't even go to class, Joe. Damn. Now, Joe, I was in and out, boy. I think I got there in August, but by the time April got there, I was gone. I think, look, Ocho, you said something very interesting. He goes to a coach that knows him. The thing is that he knows his personality. Right. Also, he knows Vrabel ain't no nonsense. Here's a guy that played, played at a high level. One, when you get to a place, lay out my expectations. Tell me what you expect of me. I'm telling you what I expect of you this is how I I don't have no problem being coached hard yes I'm gonna come in I'm gonna be professional at the very least I might not be what you thought I was but I'll always be professional I would ask that you extend me the same courtesy I believe in a level of professionalism above all absolutely and I think because AJ knows him He knows AJ.

16:26Shannon Sharpe:He knows what makes AJ tick. AJ knows what gets on the Brable skin. I think it's going to be great. He has a quarterback. He believes that he – look, not to say that – because at one point in time, Joe, he believed in Jalen Hurts. Yeah.

16:43Chad Johnson:Oh, they put up some good numbers now. Hey, him and Jalen put up some good numbers now. You know, things started to unravel year three and four. They were together four years, right? I think four years. Yeah, the tail in the three, and obviously we see how four win. Him and Drake, they're going to have a good rapport. They're going to have a good rapport. He has a nice complimentary set of receivers also that go along with him, Keyshawn Boutte. I forgot who maybe the third is going to be. I don't know if he made it four years.

17:10Shannon Sharpe:Was he only there three years? Because the first year they went to the Super Bowl, the next year they didn't. Kansas City, because Kansas City went back-to-back, and then the third, yeah, it was four years. He might have been four years. So the first year they go, San Francisco, third year. Yeah, four years. He was there four years old, Joe. Yes, four.

17:25Chad Johnson:Yeah. Hold on. Hold on. The Patriots just played. They just played in the Super Bowl, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. I think they'll get the best out of AJ, bro. You know, you get another chance. You get a different opportunity, an opportunity that you've been looking forward to. You know, they should get the best AJ. Yeah. Yeah, they're going to be all right. They're going to be all right. Hey. Hey, they're going to be all right. The Eagles are going to be all right.

17:54Shannon Sharpe:Look at this picture. Can you see this picture? Yeah. Who is that? That's A.J. Brown. Now, to the best of my recollection, Nike started making NFL jerseys in 2012. Either A.J. Brown is a very, very small 15-year-old. I'm just saying, a very, very small 15-year-old. Or this is AI. I'm just saying, Ochoa. I'll let y 'all draw your own conclusions. That might be AI, I don't know.

18:30Hey, that's a good one though.

18:32Chad Johnson:You don't know what's real nowadays here. Hey, hey boy, you can't even tell. So, damn.

18:46Shannon Sharpe:Uh oh, another new story. Odell Beckham Jr. is heading back to where it all started. He was signed today to the New York Giants. Odell spent his first five seasons of his career from 2014 to 2018. He sits number two on the Giants' all-time receiving list. OBJ hadn't played since 2024. Ojo, Ocho, Iso, OBJ, Malik Nabors, Jackson Dart, Cam Scadabo. What are we thinking? Hold on.

19:17Chad Johnson:Didn't they get Juju? Yeah, they signed Juju today also. Yeah. Yeah, Juju went there too. Obviously, I look at the Odell, bringing Odell in as some insurance. He's some insurance, somebody that's familiar with the team in general. Obviously, it's a new system, a new quarterback. He's familiar with playing in that organization specifically. How healthy is Malik Nabors going to be? That's what I was going to say, man. That's the first thing that comes to mind. How healthy is Malik Nabors going to be? Didn't he have another surgery on that knee, Ocho? Yeah, he just had God cleaned up. that maybe two weeks ago they just announced if he's not able to go they're able to use odell beckham and juju smith juju smith what's your last name just to you shuster you know and in different ways to manipulate that offense and put him in different positions to make some of those plays being that malik malik neighbors is your number one malik neighbors is your dog he can do some of any and everything oh before we go any further on this remember the patriots signed

20:17Shannon Sharpe:Romeo Dobbs also. So Romeo Dobbs and A.J. Brown and Keyshawn Boutte. Damn. They got a nice little squad, boy. They got a nice little squad over there now. And you know, Steve, Ramondre, isn't he there? Ramondre Stevens. So they got a nice little squad. They got a nice little something offensively cooking. Now go ahead, go ahead. You said if Malik Nabors, if he can get back up, if he can come back and be what he was his rookie year. Oh, man. Slayton, I think Slayton had surgery. Remember Wondell, if I'm not mistaken, I think Wondell Robinson went to Tennessee. He went to Tennessee. He went to Tennessee.

21:01Shannon Sharpe:Now, they did bring over Likely tight end from Baltimore. OBJ, Ocho, does he have anything left? a little bit a little bit he's not going to be the OBJ we used to seeing when he wore 13 with the Giants now he's not going to be that but we've seen what he can do he can make plays you put him in positions and give him the opportunities to make said plays he can do what he needs to do he can do what he needs to do

21:34Chad Johnson:I think I think he'll be solid but I don't think neighbors fellas I don't know if neighbors are going to be ready to start the season and my thing is, I mean, that's just my gut feeling, Ocho. Are you going to wear a guy like Odell Beckham and Juju Smith? Are you going to wear those guys down? Because if Malik Nabors ain't going to be there to start here, you're going to have to lean on those guys. Yeah.

21:57Shannon Sharpe:The question that I have. I like Odell because he's proven. But the question, Ocho. He's proven. At the end of the day, what's the number one thing for a receiver? He's got to get separation. Can Juju separate? Can OBJ separate anymore? That's the thing. I don't care. We've seen guys, Ocho, fast, but they don't know how to get separation. We see guys that's like, you look at a guy like Ladd McConkie or you look at a guy like Keenan Allen. What can they create? Separation. Separation.

22:29Chad Johnson:Yeah.

22:30Shannon Sharpe:The question is, can the two guys that we've been talking about the last three, four minutes, can they separate anymore, Ocho? And think about this too. Think about how whoever the officer coordinator is, I'm not sure. I don't want to butcher anyone's name that is not the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. But if their strengths, OBJ at one point, could separate like hell. Yeah. Juju Smith, I'm not sure if he was able, if he was ever a player where he can just create separation. You're talking about Juju, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, that's not, never been, that's never. Maybe if you know that's not their strength anymore, you put them in positions to be able to get them open.

23:08There are many things you can do to get them open. and you can scheme them open, put them in motion. There are ways around that where you can hide some of the things that they're not good at anymore because of age and because of injuries.

23:19Shannon Sharpe:Matt Nagy is the offensive coordinator for the Giants, don't you? Remember, Matt Nagy was with Kansas City. I like Nagy. See? Nothing about that. You know he's stealing some of them concepts from over there. Yeah, but then we got the players that wrote those concepts. Hello. I can put you in a NASCAR. you ain't gonna beat the guys that do that for a living around that damn track and we'll give you the same car that got 850 horsepower burning that same that high power gas yeah but you know what I do hey Joe this gives OBJ a chance to prove everybody wrong though if Malik neighbors is not able to go can you steer the ship can you keep the ship afloat until neighbors comes back

24:04Chad Johnson:and you just don't want to you know how exciting Jackson Dart is

24:08Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. He better learn how to get his ass out of bounds. You know what's scataboo? He's going to stay. He's spending more time in concussion protocol and in the damn tent than he do in the huddle. And he was talking about, oh, that's the fire and the passion. I don't want that kind of fire and passion with my quarterback taking shots like that, Ocho. You ain't going to last long. I know a guy that they said the same thing about Ocho. That's passion. I love the way he played. He played about five years and he retired. Andrew Luck. Yeah. And Jackson Dart ain't no damn Andrew Luck. Nah. Hey, boy. Andrew said, I'm giving you what I'm going.

24:45Exactly.

24:46Shannon Sharpe:They broke his – go back – I tell you what. Go back and look at the game. He played on a Sunday against the Broncos. That was the beginning of the end. Yeah. Go watch that game and watch the hits that he took. They won. They won the battle. They lost the war. You don't want your quarterback taking those shots. Cam Scadabo, I love your game. Boy, you're exciting to watch. I love your game. I love your passion. But, bro, all you got to do is look at Earl Campbell. Go look at Earl.

25:28Shannon Sharpe:That ain't the way to do it. It's okay. It's okay to put that blink on and get your ass out of bounds. Yeah.

25:38Chad Johnson:Hey, what Jackson Dart hurt last year?

25:40Shannon Sharpe:His head. They beat it till it was soft like a baked potato. He got a couple of concussions. He got a secret. He had Ocho. He don't listen to Ocho. Ocho, I love that for my, I love my, I love my quarterback. Hey, I like, hey, hey, he played different. Yeah. He played different. I wish he would protect himself a little bit more, but man, hey, Joe. Jackson Dark going to the New York Giants gave fans a reason. He put butts in the seats.

26:11Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey. I agree with you, Ojo. He put butts in the seats, Joe. Hit him in the scatterball. I thought they did a hell of a job last season. Exciting.

26:18Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Look at him, man. Hey, because you have to understand, Joe, once that quarterback leaves the pocket, he's not afforded the protection of the pocket.

26:30Chad Johnson:Right.

26:30Shannon Sharpe:So I would treat his ass like a running back. Oh, you want to be a running back, huh? Oh, you're Derrick Henry now. Okay. He be trying to dip on the DB sometime too. Yeah, yeah. It'd be funny. Yeah. Come on, Jackson, step out of bounds, man.

26:45Chad Johnson:Hey, man, y 'all know he young and rambunctious, man. You know, hey, hey, he has to try to get it. Did knock the Mario coins out your ass.

26:54Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, hey, you learn quick now. Nah, yo, get mad. Don't get mad. What's your name? NYC, CT, NYC. Talking about just be talking. How you talking about just talking? I'm telling you how the guy got hurt. Don't get mad because I'm telling the truth. Everybody in the chat know I'm telling the truth. Ain't no just talking. I said this in the preseason. I said, boy, you asking for it. I know how guys, look, I know how guys treat the quarterback when he runs because that's the only time I'm going to get a chance to knock your ass out. Yeah. Did y 'all see how they hit Cam when Cam ran the football? Yeah.

27:39Shannon Sharpe:Did you see Andrew Luck? Think about it, the projection Andrew Luck was on. They'll break your spirit. Quick. They broke Andrew Luck's spirit. I tell you what, go ask Mike Vick if he had to do over.

27:59Chad Johnson:That's why I was just finna say. He said, hell no.

28:02Shannon Sharpe:Hey, I got down out of bounds. I took too many unnecessary shots.

28:08Okay.

28:09Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all can listen. You have to understand, in certain positions, running backs, tight ends, we're used to taking those licks. Quarterbacks are not used to taking those kinds of licks, Joe, because they don't build their bodies up like that.

28:23Chad Johnson:Yeah.

28:23Shannon Sharpe:You need to stay fluid. You need to be able to throw and rotate so you don't build up big old traps and shoulders to take some of those those thick-ass neck.

28:35Chad Johnson:I get it. Okay. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, he got to be better. He got to be better. I'm sure he learned this lesson. Hey, I know another guy they broke too.

28:45Shannon Sharpe:That guy we used to be with the commanders.

28:49Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah.

28:51Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, Daniels. No. RG3. Oh, RG3. You remember him? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Okay.

29:02Chad Johnson:But that's why, hey, look, that's why it's hard, bro, because, you know, RG3 kind of, he was in his own way. You know, he, you know that man wanted to play. It's hard to keep their ass off the field.

29:13Shannon Sharpe:Yes, but he wasn't ready to play.

29:15Chad Johnson:Yeah, I know.

29:20Shannon Sharpe:I just, the thing is, is I try to tell these guys, I said, look, guys, look, I want you to be you, but you got to understand you got to pick and choose your battles. You can't go to war with everybody. And everybody that you think you got an easy win against, them the ones that'll knock your ass out.

29:34Chad Johnson:Ooh-wee.

29:35Shannon Sharpe:Now, I'm not telling what somebody told me. I'm telling you, Ocho, we try to tell them what we do. We talk lived experiences. You say, hey, how's somebody going to give me advice about marriage and they ain't never been married? How's somebody going to tell me how to raise a child and they ain't never had a child? I ain't telling you something somebody told me that played in the NFL. I'm telling you lived experiences. Ocho is telling you lived experiences. Joe is telling you lived experiences. You say that's what you want.

30:05Chad Johnson:Yes, sir.

30:07Shannon Sharpe:Okay, hey. I was tough. I like to think I was tough as wet leather. Me too. Hey, Ocho, I – Blinkle, blinkle, blinkle, run up out of bounds. Quick. Hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey, when they got on the joke, on Joe, I catch that ball, I see them coming, I pull that turf up over me. Man, I'm up under the turf, don't you hit me.

30:37Shannon Sharpe:Man, hell no. Hey, Joe.

30:40Chad Johnson:What's up? I was out there running people over, Joe. Nah, hell nah. I ain't going. Yeah, I'm just telling you, I was out there running people over, Joe. Man, bleed. Yes, sir.

30:57Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, look at the show what we got, Ocho. Look what we got. Look what we found.

31:04Shannon Sharpe:That's on the cowboy.

31:05Chad Johnson:Aw, man, come on. I bring, I always bringing up this old stuff that don't mean nothing, man. Hey, who he can't get on, Ocho? I think that's Mr. Carl. Used car.

31:20Shannon Sharpe:Already came with 100 ,000 miles on it.

31:23Chad Johnson:Come on, what we doing? What we doing? What we doing? See, Joe, that ain't me, Joe. Yeah, but you guilty by association, hell. Why you gonna believe me guilty by association? Yeah, you part of nightcap. You guilty by association, yeah. I know you like this type of stuff, too. You know what I mean? anything going at the Cowboys. I know you talk about pickings and all that, but you like, y 'all be low key hating on this. And look at the ref reaching in the back pocket, Ocho.

31:51Shannon Sharpe:Cause the man held, the man, the reason why OBJ liked that, cause the man pulled him down, tried to pull him down. Look at the ref reaching in the back pocket.

31:59Chad Johnson:And he ain't reaching for no Kleenex.

32:04He reaching for that yellow hanky.

32:07Chad Johnson:I reached back like one three. Ocho, you see what he ate?

32:15Hey, hey, man, come on, bro. Don't worry about it, Joe.

32:20Chad Johnson:They're gonna come back to hunt y 'all during NFL season too, watch. Joe, I've been rooting for the Cowboy, Joe. What'd I do, Joe? Now what'd you do? I ain't in charge of graphics.

32:30Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, now he make it seem like I'm in charge of graphics. But he don't call it, with all the graphics going about them grooves and mint condition and true and juice and all that. He don't say nothing about that, but now all of a sudden I'm in charge of graphics. Yeah. You see what I'm saying, Chance? Your son you do now? Now all of a sudden I'm in charge of graphics. That's okay.

32:58Chad Johnson:First game, we got something for the ass. Uh-oh.

33:01Shannon Sharpe:He might make another one of them catches on y 'all. Why?

33:05Chad Johnson:Nah, nah. Damn. Nah, nah. Nah. I think he's going to be good, but I don't know. Nah, nah, nah. Damn. 34:35I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, hey, Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

35:09Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luka and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luka and Austin Reed, I gotta manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed.

35:45He has to guard Julius Randle. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on a night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.

35:55Chad Johnson:Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball. But like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is. Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War.

36:33Shannon Sharpe:To get to school, I had to go down Robert E. Lee Boulevard. To get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're a historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akilah Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky Statehouse that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that?

37:03Chad Johnson:They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

37:26but who are you? I'm MC Jin, and this is Laugh But Not Lease. I'll be chatting with guests from all walks of life about the power of humor when it comes to facing difficult times, like the co-founder of Rough Riders, Darren D. Dean. Talking about as a kid, do you remember that we met even way before? Let me think. Did you walk up to the gate? That was me, D. That was you? That was me. The day we found out that you and the whole crew was at Hit Factory, the mission was to get me to go to the gate, start freestyling, and see if I could get in the studio. I'm rapping, and then suddenly I hear a voice.

37:57Hey, open the gate. Let him in. The gate slowly went. They all, they're watching this and they watch me walk into there and that is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life. Listen to Laugh But Not Least with MC Jin starting on June 9th on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

38:17Shannon Sharpe:Oh, Joe, Joe. Russell Wilson is putting a pause on his playing career. The free agent quarterback has accepted an offer to join CBS Sports for his Sunday pregame show and more. Wilson is opening a new chapter in his football career despite having an offer to be the team's backup in 2026. Russ leaves the game with 46 ,966 passing yards, 353 touchdowns, sits fifth in passing yards since 2012, only behind Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Matt Ryan. He ranks fourth among quarterbacks in rushing yards, trailing only Lamar Jackson, Michael Vick, and Cam Newton. He's a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, has a Super Bowl ring.

39:02Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, Joe? Yes, sir. I'm going to abstain from this. Has he done enough to become a brother in Canton? Ooh, that's a good call. That's a good call. That's a good question. I mean, listen, the way the Hall of Fame has been going lately, I don't know what is a Hall of Famer at this point. So, Joe, you might be better suited to answer that than me.

39:27Chad Johnson:I'm better suited. Hell, y 'all play the game.

39:29Shannon Sharpe:But see, Joe, if I answer it, I'm a hater. If I say no, he hating on him. Hey, man, you see how he talking about black quarterbacks? He don't like blacks. He don't like his own self. If I say yes, then they're going to say, damn, you just let anybody know. You just saying that because he black. So I can't win.

39:47Chad Johnson:Hey, it come with the territory. It come with the territory.

39:51Shannon Sharpe:And because then the what the headline Ocho if I say somebody belongs or don't belong what's the headline, right? Hall of Famer Shatter Sharp says such and such don't belong like I got a vote Yeah, hey, I've said a lot of guys belong in home. I say to you on the first ballot y 'all ain't listen to me They had ish I got to say I said a lot of guys said yes I me playing against him and going into the room on Wednesday and seeing him circled up there and knowing what we have to deal with? Absolutely. Having played against T.O. Did we play against T.O.? Yeah, we did. 97. But he wasn't that T.O. yet.

40:39But, no.

40:41Shannon Sharpe:And I just got tired. And plus, I got tired of people calling me asking me, bro, you ain't gonna listen to what I say. So you just wanted, you just wanted, you know, have them farther and see how many guys you can bounce things off of. Look.

40:59Shannon Sharpe:353 touchdowns. That's a lot of touchdowns. 46 ,000 yards. That's a lot of passing yards. I think the thing is, the problem that he's running in, look at the era in which he's playing in. The era that he's playing in, Joe, these guys got 60 ,000 passing yards. They got 400-plus touchdowns. Matt Ryan won an MVP. He didn't win a Super Bowl, but he's got 60 ,000 yards. He's got 400 touchdowns. Phillip Rivers, and then you got Lamar coming. You got all these young guys coming. Josh Allen's going to have. Josh Allen might have 100 rushing touchdowns with 300 passing touchdowns, Ocho.

41:40Chad Johnson:Right, right.

41:43Shannon Sharpe:Like I said, I used to know, I used to think I'd know what a Pro Bowl player was. I did. I thought I did. and then all of a sudden it started taking guys five, six, seven times. I say, I'll give up. I don't know. I don't know what a Pro Bowl is. I think based on his size, I think what Drew Brees has done, Drew Brees gave the undersized quarterback hope. They wasn't giving guys that size. I mean, you have a Doug Flutter here and there, but then all of a sudden you get Drew Brees. And Drew Brees is going to Pro Bowls. He's throwing for 4 ,000 yards. He's winning a Super Bowl. And he says, hold on.

42:18Shannon Sharpe:now you get a Kyler Murray now you get Russell Wilson before and now you get a Kyler Murray now you get a Baker Mayfield you get guys like that and so now all of a sudden it's like you know what you ain't got to be prototypical you ain't got to be 6-3 you ain't got to be 6-4 6-5 you can be can you play the game can you process the information and I thought Russ did that there's a stretch there, he was as good as we had in the NFL.

42:49Chad Johnson:Yeah.

42:51Shannon Sharpe:I get it. You know, everybody's going to tie everything that he's ever done, Ocho. They're going to tie it to the Legion of Boom. We understand that. That comes along with the territory. But there was a stretch that Russell Wilson was as good. His improvisational skills, he was a virtuoso. He was a virtuoso. And unfortunately, he ended up, he was a guy that thought the grass was green on the other side. And he wanted out of Seattle. I ain't breaking no news. He wanted a new contract. He wanted out of Seattle. Seattle thought his skills were diminishing. They would seem to be unwilling to give him that contract.

43:27Shannon Sharpe:He goes to Denver and it was downhill from there. He had two uneventful years in Denver. He goes to Pittsburgh. They were uneventful. Did he go to the Jets or the Giants?

43:42Chad Johnson:Giants. he had

43:45Shannon Sharpe:yeah

43:51he was

43:53Shannon Sharpe:like I said the man went to the man went to 10 Pro Bowls now obviously now you know we know the Pro Bowl Ocho they taking the 17th alternate it ain't maybe back when we went Ocho you didn't get past the second alternate you didn't get Oh, man, they're taking guys, they're taking 11th and 12th alternates. Because nobody wants to go anymore. Right. Go ahead, Ocho, what did you want to say? No, no, you're right. I was just agreeing with you. I was agreeing with you. That's why when it came to, when you ask the Hall of Fame question, based on the way it's been going the past few years, I really don't know what they consider a Hall of Famer is, especially when it comes to the quarterback position, as great as Russell Wilson played.

44:38I just don't know. I just don't know because the people in positions of power they have their own set of rules you saw what they did to T.O. you saw what they did to Bill Belichick at this point it's almost without disrespecting them they're making a mockery of it with them having what's the word I'm looking at abusing their power abusing the power that they do have for people that belong in their case closed there's really no arguments about it I mean, come on, what they did to Bill was, that was egregious. That was ridiculous. Yeah.

45:14Chad Johnson:Hey, and I think Russell Wilson, you know, starting his new analyst career, I think that's probably going to be the best thing for him, Uncle Ojo, because I don't think he wants to be a backup, which is probably, you know, how this pretty much came about. And I think he's going to run with this. I think he'll be pretty good.

45:37Shannon Sharpe:Because these jobs don't come available often. I mean, because I thought about going back for year 15, Joe. I mean, I had a great year 14, over 700 yards, receiving, had eight touchdowns. But this job don't become available every year. And guess what? When I'm ready to retire, is this job going to be waiting for me? I'm not getting no situation like Brady got. Fox said, you've gone back. We'll hold this job as long as we need to. Right. I ain't getting that. let me get on the left out of here deuces you're absolutely right deuces I just that situation Ocho everybody talk to this day people still ask me what you think the Seattle why didn't they run Marshall bro I'm not even I didn't even play in Seattle yo I wasn't there but y 'all want me to tell you the same thing you thinking I can't believe they threw that when you got beast mode in the backfield.

46:43Shannon Sharpe:I can't believe it. I'm going to run him again. Then I'm going to call timeout. Because at the end of the day, Ocho, you know, once they press that slot receiver, that under ain't going to be there. Every time. Because where can he go? You got to realize he's on the damn goal line. He can't go nowhere. Once Brandon Brown is in the slot and he does this, it's over. Because guess what? You don't make Malcolm Butler bubble. In order for that to work, you got to make him bubble. You got to make him go over the top, Ocho. Joe, if you don't make him go over the top and he get a beeline, he going to intercept them at the point.

47:23Shannon Sharpe:Now, what was the most remarkable thing is that he caught it. He caught that ball with it being thrown as hard as it was, Ocho, at that close range. That's a DB. That's not a receiver. Think about it. He's running towards the ball. We see this a lot when guys run a dig route or run a comeback, Ocho, and you coming back towards the ball. The ball's coming and you're coming. That ball gets up on you quick. That's a DB. And he catches it. And he could have easily knocked it. It could have popped up, went out the end zone. It could have hit the dirt. He caught it. He caught it. His timing was impeccable.

48:09Shannon Sharpe:And you know what? Impeccable timing. The Seattle Seahawks were never the same. Nope. That ended the Seattle Seahawks potential dynasty. And they start breaking it up piece by piece. They didn't believe in Pete anymore. And they didn't believe in Russ. They really never liked Russ. Because if you listen to some of what they had to say. Is that Russ got treated differently. He behaved differently. I don't know how many from a team perspective I think some of the offensive guys but if you go just go back and listen to what some of the defensive guys had to say right it was never the same it was it was never the same it was never going to be the same but I think he's had a phenomenal career and I think the thing sometimes Ocho and Joe you know what happens well if the guy didn't go to the if you don't go to the Hall of Fame he had a terrible career no damn damn Damn, everybody's not meant to go to their sports hall of fames.

49:12Shannon Sharpe:It is okay. You can have an outstanding career and not be a hall of famer. But I don't even know what a hall of famer is anymore. I thought I did. Hell, Derrick Thomas had to wait five times, so I don't know. I don't know. You can't tell me a better pure pass rusher from the time Derrick Thomas got in the league in 1989 until he left the league in 1999 and played 11 seasons. you tell me a better pure pass rusher than Derek Thomas

49:41Shannon Sharpe:defensive rookie of the year 20 and a half sacks had a game with 7 sacks in the game I think he had another game where he had 6 sacks in the game there is not a better pure pass rusher than Derek Thomas from 1989 to 1999 and the man had to wait 5 times

50:02Shannon Sharpe:I'm an individual I see him all the time

50:06Chad Johnson:He raised hell over there, man.

50:09Shannon Sharpe:You better know where he's at at all times. Yeah. All times. We used to have hell raisers in that division. You had Jerry. You had Neal Smith. You had Leslie O 'Neal. Go back and chat. Go look up Leslie O 'Neal for the charges. You had Howie Long, Greg Townsend. Go look up Greg Townsend and Howie Long. I know y 'all know Howie long because he's on television. Howie long used to raise hell. Howie raised hell. Greg Townsend was not to be F with. Yeah. I'm telling you the first time I go to the Coliseum, man, I'm going, we walk in the locker room, man, Greg Townsend sitting on his helmet smoking a cigarette.

50:55I'm like, hold on, is this for real?

50:59Shannon Sharpe:I'm on. man look here we had some hell raisers we had a rufus porter i don't know if you remember rufus porter uh uh boogie bryant from seattle tez was in that division oh we had some hell raisers in that division

We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. First people to do podcasts. Yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with the name Hey Jonas, guys?

55:22Shannon Sharpe:We made it. We made it. Yeah. I'm like, we, you know, I'm like, I know these guys, but who are you? I'm MC Jin. And this is Laugh But Not Lease. I'll be chatting with guests from all walks of life about the power of humor when it comes to facing difficult times. Like the co-founder of Rough Riders, Darren D. Dean. Talking about as a kid. Do you remember that we met even way before? Let me think. Did you walk up to the gate? That was me, D. That was you? That was me. The day we found out that you and the whole crew was at Hit Factory, the mission was to get me to go to the gate, start freestyling, and see if I could get in the studio.

55:56I'm rapping, and then suddenly I hear a voice. Hey, open the gate. Let him in. The gate slowly went. They all there watching this, and they watch me walk into there, and that is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life. Listen to Laugh But Not Least with MC Jin starting on June 9th on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Russell Wilson potentially calling a career.

56:21Shannon Sharpe:The Caleb Downs offseason hype continues following the safety's arrival in Dallas. Jerry Jones had the most notable quote this offseason comparing Downs' leadership ability to those of Dak Prescott. Dak didn't reject the comparison when asked today. Just honestly, I can say in just a month or whatever, I've been around the kid and watching the kid. You see Dak, see Dak, the old man. He called the man a kid now. I take it as a compliment when those comparisons come around. How professional he is, how calm he is, quiet yet confident, it's contagious. You feel it. He's a man who's sure who he is.

56:55Shannon Sharpe:When you're not that way in this business, you know you can speak up and speak out. You can say things you believe and age doesn't really matter because you know you're doing the right thing. Oh, Joe, Joe, let me go to you. This your team, Joe. You like that? Yeah, Joe.

57:10Chad Johnson:Yeah, you need that type of leadership on that side of the ball, bro. If we've been lacking defensively, we need somebody who will come in, step up, you know, and be that leader on that side of the ball, be that orchestrator to where, man, you can enhance what we're trying to do. I mean, hell, that's been our Achilles heel over the years, fellas. We can't stop no damn body. Can you not? We're going to fix that dish. I don't know about all that. I don't know about all that. Yeah, we're going to fix that this year. You see what's going on. Yeah, y 'all can play crazy how y 'all want to, but y 'all see what's going on.

57:48Chad Johnson:What's going on, Joe? We getting it right. We getting it right over there. Them boy getting it right. Y 'all see it. OK. I like it. I like Caleb Downs too now. Yeah. He nice. Yeah. You think he going to start, Joe? Yeah. Yeah, I don't think he going to start. He starting. Nah, he going to start. He going to start. Hell yeah.

58:08Shannon Sharpe:Joe, but I got some concerns about Darren Bland, Deron Bland. He hasn't been the same. You don't like Deron? But he had injuries, huh? Is he over him now? Yeah, he better be this year because he's the main focal point. He's your guy. He's your number one. He better.

58:30Chad Johnson:He going to have to show up this year, Ocho. We going to need him. Hey, Joe, he don't have no choice, Joe. They going at him. They going at him.

58:41Chad Johnson:Let's go, let's go baby.

58:42Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all need it Joe, y 'all need it. I just hope y 'all, you know, cause I don't want you to be on here and be sad. Me and Ocho happy every week. That ain't fun.

58:50Chad Johnson:I know damn well Ocho ain't gonna be happy. You may be a little happy cause you gonna be flip flopping between the Ravens and the Broncos. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Hey Joe, you know I'm gonna be happy Joe. No. I'm going to be happy. For one, the Dolphins, they're in a rebuild. They need about three years. So I know what they expect. Any win the Dolphins get, I'm all for it. But I don't expect them to do that well. My Bengals, with the way we just drafted, what we did in the offseason, boy, I would raise hell on him. I'd raise hell.

59:28Shannon Sharpe:Boy, we don't act accordingly and play up the park. But here's the thing, though, what he won't tell you, Joe. but when his guppies beat my Broncos, scored 70 on him, he came out here hooting and holla, what happened, 70? I remember. Hold on, hold on. I thought you was a bingo. You know I'm Liberty City, I can walk to the stadium. Hey, I'm from Dade County, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hold on, you didn't play for the guppies. I said I at least played for the Ravens. I won a Super Bowl for the Ravens, what led them in receiving one year. I said I can't root for the Ravens? Nah, you a Bronco.

1:00:06Everybody know you a Bronco.

1:00:09Chad Johnson:What's up? Hey Joe, I got a check that says Miami Dolphins on there. You hear me? Yeah, yeah. It says it's about$6 million, I still got it. You hear me? Yeah. So I might not have played it down, but I got a check, you know, with Steven Ross name at the bottom of it. So therefore, even though I didn't play, I am still a part of that team. Now I know I messed up, you know, I messed up. But Joe, that's my childhood team, you know, growing up. Huh? Hey, Ocho, Ocho, you know, them Dolphins, they probably ain't going to win about two games because they trying to get old boy. Hey, I give them, you know what?

1:00:43They trying to get Jeremiah Smith to come on back home, boy.

1:00:46Chad Johnson:Yeah. Matter of fact, I wouldn't be mad if they don't win no games, as long as we get Jeremiah Smith. But Archie Manning going number one, so that's the problem. I mean, I'm like, well, damn. Even if the Guppies get the number one pick, they going to take Archie over, huh? They just got, they just got, they just signed the board. They only got to do a major deal. Malik, Malik Willis? Yeah. Yeah, I don't know, boy. You know how that NFL work, boy. They ain't passing up, they ain't gonna pass up Jeremiah Smith. But he's not going past two, Joe. He not going past two. He from Florida. If Miami get the number one.

1:01:23He right here, from right here. But the thing is though, Joe,

1:01:27Shannon Sharpe:without a quarterback, Jeremiah Smith can't influence the games. You gotta have that guy. You got to have him. I don't think Malik Willis, I don't think he turns up. I don't think so either. But I'm just telling you, when teams have an opportunity to draft a quarterback and there's one rated high, we had the conversation about Chicago, and they traded that pick. They traded what ended up being to Carolina.

1:01:54Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:01:55Shannon Sharpe:Guess what? I was like, they're not passing that up. They're taking a quarterback. They had Justin Fields and they're taking the quarterback. You think they're about to pass up two first-round picks? Two number one overall picks in the quarterback position and you think they're going to pass? No, sir. There's zero chance that happens.

1:02:21Shannon Sharpe:But, hey, the guys, he's phenomenal. The downs kid, he's phenomenal. I liked him at Alabama, but Coach Saban left and he's like, nah, I can't. I'm not going to be able to accomplish what I wanted to get accomplished. Goes to Ohio State, wins the national championship one year. Wins the Thorpe Award as the premier defensive back in all of football. He's a phenomenal player. I think he was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He's special.

1:02:55Shannon Sharpe:The next segment is brought to you by Tommy John, where comfort is the new power move. Steph Curry made a power move signing a 10-year endorsement deal with the Chinese company Li Ning, officially ending a recruitment process following his departure from Under Armour. Part of Steph's ultimate decision was about his comfort while testing the shoes of two Li Ning signature athletes, Jimmy Butler, his fellow Warrior teammate, and Dwayne Wade. Dwayne Wade. Li Ning plans to build a Curry brand stores in the United States and in China. Joe, thoughts of signing Li Ning over bigger brands like Nike and Adidas.

1:03:32Chad Johnson:Lee Ning, obviously, they paying their cheddar, but they make a pretty good damn shoe. Oh, Joe. Yeah, they do make a pretty good shoe. And the fact that they're over there in what, China?

1:03:46Shannon Sharpe:Yes.

1:03:47Chad Johnson:I don't think the brands here in the States, meaning like the Nikes and the Adidas and things of that sort, I don't think they're really doing too great. And I think Lee Ning is actually – they've been great over the years, bro. And to get Steph Curry, to get him a signature shoe, a signature brand, to where he can sign these other guys under his brand, I think is what Lee Ning is trying to do.

1:04:14Shannon Sharpe:And I'm not so sure other brands was going to give him that opportunity. Nike is very conscious about that. Really, if you think about it, who's up under Nike? Jordan.

1:04:24Chad Johnson:Yep.

1:04:25Shannon Sharpe:LeBron hadn't been able to do that yet because LeBron said, I went to Nike about trying to sign Luka Jordan. KD has yet. And maybe KD doesn't want that. But I know LeBron wants to sign athletes under his brand. Absolutely.

1:04:44Chad Johnson:And he hasn't been able to do that.

1:04:46Shannon Sharpe:And I'm not so sure Nike is trying to do. I don't think they want another situation like Jordan where they're giving up$400,$500,$600 million a year.

1:04:56Chad Johnson:And they're going to go young. They getting these young guys. Curry got about three, four years left to where he's probably going to be playing. They going younger, man. These top brands going to get these young cats, and they going to build them up.

1:05:08Shannon Sharpe:But you also, Joe, these guys are not like – when we came out, Nike was everything. But you see Cooper's flag, he went to New Balance. You see guys going to Puma, guys doing sketchers. Guys, look, hold on. How much you offered Nike? New Balance, how much you say you got? Man, give me that New Balance. You look like, hey, let me get that Puma.

1:05:31Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey, them folks writing Chase Longest Peachtree. Yeah, man! You hear me? They ain't playing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, hey, hey, hey, them folks going with all these brands, the New Balances, the Pumas, and all that. Yeah, you're right. Everybody's competing now. It's not just one brand like it used to be, Nike or Adidas. You got so many other brands, bro, who are competing, and they getting a lot of these, a lot of the star talent. They getting them early too, so they can build it and build it and build it. Man, y 'all know this thing all about money, man.

1:06:03Shannon Sharpe:Bro.

1:06:04Chad Johnson:What are we playing?

1:06:05Shannon Sharpe:Nike gonna offer you five, six million, and then here come new battle, gonna get you 15, 20. Come on now, let's be real. And you know, hey, our childhood growing up, Nike was everything. Was that Jordan shoe drop in 85? It was a wrap. It was awful. I ain't even thinking about no converse no more. I didn't think, look, I had Converse because everybody had Converse. I had the weapons, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird. Had the Dr. J's. They were heavy as hell. Had the City Whip, Corny Spudwell. Before I look at it, man, let me go and get that$100 shoe.

1:06:43Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, hey. It took me a little while before I could get them Jordans. I ain't going to lie to you. I was in Payless with my mama, XJ900. They looked like Jordans, but they weren't no damn Jordans. But you had on some XJ900, Joe? Yeah, man. Yeah, when I was - And you know, if I saw you, you know it, I would hit you with, what are those? I would've whooped your ass too.

1:07:05Shannon Sharpe:Huh?

1:07:06Chad Johnson:I would've whooped your ass too.

1:07:08Shannon Sharpe:Hey, I got them Jordan IIs. Man, my mama waited to laugh, paid$100. My mama said, boy, you wear these shoes too. You 25.

1:07:18Chad Johnson:Hey,$100 back then for some shoes was a lot of money, bro. Hey, look, I'm gonna tell y 'all something. When my mama started paying that type of money,$120 for them Nikes, them Jordans, them Webbles, them Barclays, that we were getting team shoes, you best believe that the following couple weeks, them lights or that gas bill was going to be off. One of them was going to be off. I promise you, one of them was going to be off. Hell yeah.

1:07:41Shannon Sharpe:Oh, man. I got them shoes in today. I hit them fields. I started buying my own. I wasn't a bummer. Hey, I'm supposed to tell you, I spent my whole check on one Oz Oz shirt, one pair of Lee jeans, one pair of Calvin Klein. Man, I spent my whole damn check. And by that time, Joe, I had started making like$16 to$20 a day. Yeah. You couldn't hit Shane's ass with a red apple. Man, I was hell without a wig. Hey, nigga, I had an Oz Oz shirt, Oz Oz belt, Oz Oz socks to match, and dark side of it. Jack, if y 'all about my age, y 'all know exactly what I'm talking about. Had them Calvin Klein, had some Sergio Rigoletto's.

1:08:26Shannon Sharpe:Man, I would butt O'Shea was doing it.

1:08:32Chad Johnson:Hey, I know what you mean. That didn't happen to me, Uncle, until I got to college. Boy, I started getting that pale gray, Uncle Ocho, that 2 ,900 of Samara. I sent my mama by 11, 1200. Yeah. Hey, the fellas don't see me in the cafeteria for about two, three weeks. I'm out here ballin'. I'm out here ballin'. Listen, I done bought me two, three pair of shoes. I done ran all that little money out. Huh? What? Hey, man, y 'all get,

1:08:59Shannon Sharpe:cause we got that little work study. We got work study, Joe, but you had to work, but you know, you had to get a little job. Maybe you like the dorm stuff. I worked for Coach Davis. Yeah. Hey, and Coach Davis, I was the only one that didn't really have to work. I come over there, do my homework. I said, Coach Davis, I ain't finna lie to you, Coach. I said, I ain't finna do no work. I said, I'm not finna go. He said, man, I ain't home. I need you to go get my dry cleaner. I said, Coach, I ain't finna do that. I ain't finna lie. I said, Coach, I'm not finna do that. I'm not finna go put no gas in no truck.

1:09:29Shannon Sharpe:I'm going to come here. I'm going to do my homework. He said, all right, home. Damn, don't tell nobody else.

1:09:37Shannon Sharpe:I mean, I done worked enough. But I ain't trying to do, hey, I'm trying to do as little as possible. I'm going to get that$400. Now, some people, well, you ain't gotta work, but you gotta shoot me 100. Man, I wish I might, you ain't getting my phone, 100, I shoot you 100.

1:09:52Chad Johnson:Right, right. Hell no. Nah, nah, hell nah. Hey, I know what you mean, boy.

1:09:59Shannon Sharpe:But, Steph, look, I thought maybe Nike would circle back, but, Joe, I see your point. Them boys, they like, hold on. Steph got two, three more years. hey Nike shouldn't have had the circle back they shouldn't have had you make me an offer I can't refuse and obviously the fact that they had the circle back means that they played with it but look here they're going to create a golf brand remember Nike got out of the golf yeah you remember they used to have irons and have all that stuff. Now they do a little bit of apparel, but I think Steph trying to go all in on the golf and stuff. Yeah. Yeah.

1:10:48Chad Johnson:I bet Nike did offer him something, but it wasn't to his liking. You know, I bet you Lee Neen came with a sweet deal. Like I'll say, you know he's super into golf. I bet you're going to come out with a golf line and all that. But being able to have the Curry brand and to be able to sign guys under that, I bet you that was probably a deep value into what he really wanted to do. I absolutely believe it, Joe. I absolutely believe that's it. Yeah.

1:11:14Shannon Sharpe:I believe that's it.

1:11:15Chad Johnson:And Lee Ning going to get it done, bro. Oh, yeah.

1:11:18Shannon Sharpe:Lee Ning. That Chinese market is huge. When those guys go on tours, where they go, Joe? You see James Martin with Adidas. When you used to see, rest your soul, Kobe Bryant. You see LeBron. You see D-Way. You see all these guys. Where they go? China. China. Thailand, Taiwan, all, yes. That Asian, yep.

1:11:39Chad Johnson:And them people are wearing them shoes over there, bro. Yeah.

1:11:45Shannon Sharpe:So.

1:11:46Chad Johnson:Smart move.

1:11:47Shannon Sharpe:Congratulations, Steph. Senior boy player, size 13.

1:11:51Chad Johnson:Yeah, I need 16, my boy.

1:11:53Shannon Sharpe:I got these Steph Currys, so I have a whole load of these.

1:11:58Chad Johnson:You ain't never got a pair of underarm with Steph Curry. He signed him for him. Oh, did he? Yeah, I remember that. Damn, that might be worth something, huh?

1:12:12Shannon Sharpe:Hey, Joe. I mean, Ocho might not do it, but I put these on, Joe. I'm telling you now.

1:12:19Chad Johnson:You what? You telling me now what?

1:12:21Shannon Sharpe:I might have these on when I shoot that three-four competition against your ass.

1:12:25Chad Johnson:Oh, there it is. Hey, well, bring it on out. Bring it on out. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, unk, but Joe going to lose twice. He going to lose to me and he going to lose to you. As a matter of fact, y 'all, I'm going to put the shoes up and the balls. That's what I'm talking about. That's what I was going to say. I ain't want it to look like I was robbing you, but that's what I was going to suggest that. Why about?

1:12:45Shannon Sharpe:I think I go 10 to 10 and call it a day.

1:12:50Chad Johnson:10 to 10 and call it a day. I'm going to tell you, to compete, you're going to have to at least go 8 for 10 for sure, though. You're going to have to go 8 for 10. Because if I miss one, it's going to be luck.

1:13:02Shannon Sharpe:I'm putting that's how confident I am in it look at this chat that's a Louis Vuitton basketball official NFL Louis Vuitton ball and I'm gonna put up the Steph Curry shoes that I personally got after they beat the Lakers I took him off his feet he signed him

1:13:18Chad Johnson:hey chat I already ordered a little ring I'm gonna put it I'm gonna put it right behind me I'm gonna put it

1:13:26Shannon Sharpe:I'm gonna put it right up there you gotta order

Yeah, and matter of fact, I ate chat. I'm gonna give y 'all her cash app and everybody sent her$1 ,000. You gonna be pretty good if you said 10. Okay, 10. let me see how much y 'all love my child yeah man I don't know how much this basketball costs don't you worry about it Joe cause you won't get it

1:14:36Chad Johnson:it don't matter how much it costs it's gonna look way better over here

1:14:39Shannon Sharpe:I can't let you do it Joe Joe just be talking and don't realize what's he got in store I keep telling you I was born in 68 I came out of good stock not wood stock yeah What they have? What that mean? Hey, Ocho, on StarCash, this basketball is$4 ,500. Joe, you never gonna see the date. You never gonna see this.

1:15:03Chad Johnson:Man, please. I can't wait for it to be posted up right here. He definitely ain't winning.

1:15:07Shannon Sharpe:You see that rotation, Joe? Oh yeah. You see that rotation?

1:15:10Chad Johnson:I see it, but I got you.

1:15:13Shannon Sharpe:I might even sidestep and hit a three on you.

1:15:16Chad Johnson:Oh, nah, nah. Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo. No, sir. No, sir. I can't wait for this here, boy. Hey, look, you and Ocho already know. I done made believers out of y 'all already. I hate to keep doing y 'all, because I really like both of y 'all. Both of y 'all really some cool dudes. But I had to make a point to set an example with you, boy, man. You not gonna say nothing here? You ain't gonna say nothing here, Joe. Okay, all right. I'm letting you know right now. What'd you let me know? All right, UFC. You know what? I'm done talking. I don't even want to talk about it no more. I just want to play.

1:15:54I just want to play.

1:15:55Shannon Sharpe:You're going anywhere from 6 ,000 to 26 ,000. So I got my$12 ,000,$12 ,14, maybe$12 ,000 to$27 ,000 worth of merchandise that you not going to get, Joe.

1:16:07Chad Johnson:Hey, thank you in advance. Thank you for what? Thank you in advance. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going to take that off your hands, man. We already know that. I can't. We already know that. We already know that. And I want my rematch in the cornhole too. Oh, no, no, no, no.

1:16:24Shannon Sharpe:Joe, that bag wasn't even close though, Joe.

1:16:26Chad Johnson:No, no, don't do that. Don't do that.

1:16:29Shannon Sharpe:You want a rematch on golf? We go to the real golf course. We go to Topgolf.

1:16:34Chad Johnson:You can't. You and Ocho got lucky with that just a little putting thing. Y 'all really can't beat me in golf neither. Oh, my goodness.

1:16:44Shannon Sharpe:Pete, Pete, Joe, you started all this talking. I wasn't even talking about no golf. I wasn't even, you started this. Hey, when we going outside? That's all I want to know. When we going outside? When you want to, we got to find something. Because, look, we taking a vacation. We're going to take a two-week vacation. And when we come back, we might come back outside. Hercules, Hercules. Hey, now we talking. Hey, I'm finna be in hella shape, too. Cause, uh, Dart, you know we got Dart, we got what you call him?

1:17:24Shannon Sharpe:Pool, ping pong, come on now. I already know pool. I said, hey, I'm a combination of Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland. That's, I'm a combination.

1:17:34Chad Johnson:He, he, he, he, he, he. Oh, come on, man. Come on, man. Come on, I'm trying to be cool with y 'all. Best in the house. I'm trying to be cool. Y 'all don't listen, boy.

1:17:47Shannon Sharpe:Can't wait. I'm sorry, Joe. I mean, if you want the ball, I'll give you the ball. But you can't get it. No, no, no, no. You can't shoot it.

1:17:56Chad Johnson:No, no, no, no. When I beat you for it, I'm going to feel better about having that. And then Chad will know that, you know, boy, that damn ice ain't nothing to be played with. The way he whooped Ocho ass, the way he the one over there whooped Ocho ass. Hey, Joe, you're not getting past me. So your best bet is to play on first. That's your best bet. Nah. Get your confidence up before you come up. I'm so confident.

1:18:20Shannon Sharpe:I put the shoes that Steph signed to me up. He can't beat me in a three-point competition. Steph, the great angel.

1:18:29Chad Johnson:If you just want to give me the shoes, I understand. Because that's basically what you're doing. You know what I mean? And I like you, okay? I hate to beat you down like that, man, but I'm gonna have to show you. I'm gonna have to make you a believer. Okay. I see what's going on. I see what's going on.

1:18:45Shannon Sharpe:Okay, you gotta make me a believer. You and Ocho,

1:18:47Chad Johnson:y 'all don't think fat meat grease. I'm gonna show y 'all ass, though. It ain't. Yeah.

1:18:56Chad Johnson:Then I'm gonna hit that curry, that shimmy curry be doing. Hey, you gonna hit that... For the first time since 2000... That Antoine Walker... What'd you say, Ocho? I say Joe going to hit that Antoine Walker like he hit that three. Yeah.

1:19:13Shannon Sharpe:He already know it. I'm just telling you. Hey, I figure I go seven for 10, eight or 10. It's easy. Easy money. Because I'm going to call it at corner three. That's me.

1:19:25Chad Johnson:Yeah, I made a living out for that corner three, Joe. I ain't going no less than nine for 10. I'm just letting you know. I just want you to know, hey, I'm going to let you go first

1:19:34Shannon Sharpe:because once I get that groove, I'm going to tell you like this. if Pete and repeat was on the fence and Pete fell off, who was left? Jared, it's right again. Repeat. If Pete and repeat was on the fence and Pete fell off, who was left? Joe and Ojo. Repeat.

1:19:56Shannon Sharpe:I'll just let you know, Joe. I'll just let you know. I don't really like to get involved because I don't like the competitive juices to come out. but I'm... Yeah.

1:20:05Chad Johnson:You do, yeah, yeah. I get it, I get it, I understand, I understand, I understand. Hey, no, Joe. He ain't gonna be nothing.

1:20:13Shannon Sharpe:I'm gonna have him out there looking like Chet.

1:20:15Chad Johnson:He gonna be looking like Chet when I'm done with him. I'm here, man. Hey, that's what I told him yesterday, y 'all. Hey, hey, one thing about me, boy, I'm fighting back now. Yeah, I don't know what the hell y 'all think this is. Joe, hold on. Hey, what's the point of fighting back if you can't land no punches? You seen me go berserk after you and Unk talked stuff to me after that first, after that little golf. Y 'all seen me go berserk. You see how I lost my mind. I lost my mind, couldn't even control myself no more. Huh? Don't y 'all get me started on anything, man. I'm trying to.

1:20:44Shannon Sharpe:Hey, we get outside. We get them darts. We get disc golf. Hey, like I said, we got a lot of stuff to do. We got the ax throw. Oh, man. Come on, man. Come on, man.

1:20:56Chad Johnson:It's like taking candy from a baby.
