Key claims
- Hawks are “hitting on all cylinders” and Jalen Johnson’s breakout is central.
- Hawks trading Trae Young is unlikely; they’d need a “game changer” for playoff advancement.
- Draymond wants Adam Silver to find a way to include LeBron in All-Star despite eligibility concerns.
- Wemby’s hyperextension should be minimal; Jokic will be reevaluated in a month.
- Joe Burrow says he won’t overcompensate to block Garrett’s sack record.
Notable examples
- Edwards pulled with ~8 minutes left down 30; Finch criticized his emotional response.
- Johnson’s December triple-double stretch; cited stat line includes 34 points/9 rebounds (example given).
- Wemby’s 134-132 Spurs win over the Knicks; initial test negative, more testing Thursday.
- Burrow/Garrett “play football either way” mindset.

1:34Shannon Sharpe:Nothing's off limits. We talk tanking. I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's like definitely happening in the WBA. We talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night. You can't be rolling around the city like this the night before games. 2:58Shannon Sharpe:Joe, this is right up your alley. Anthony Edwards was clearly frustrated by the team's performance tonight. They lost 126-102 to the Atlanta Hawks. After head coach Chris Finch pulled Wolf's starter, Ant left the bench, went to the locker room with a little under eight minutes left in the game. The Hawks led at the time 109-80. Finch called him out after the game, said, obviously frustrated with the performance and rightfully so but he needs to stay on the floor and root for his team today's game continued a frustrating stretch for the wolves who have lost three of their four games despite ant-man averaging 31.3 during that stretch minnesota sitting uh 21 and 13 this year in sixth place in the west according to espn ant-man an atlanta native who played college ball at georgia had a number of old friends and family at tonight's game, including his grandfather.
3:51Shannon Sharpe:Damn. I get all that. Bro, you down 30? Yeah. Joe, you ain't coming back with eight minutes to go down 30? You ain't coming back, bro. You know you gotta control your emotions, bro. No, I'm saying, that's why Finch took him out. Yeah, yeah. I get what you're going. But my thing is, here's what Ant-Man thinking. He thinking, man, I'm back home at the crib. I'm finna come out and show out because he was balling. He was balling. He the only one was balling. The rest of them dudes act like they They didn't even know they had a game. And I think, you know, he thinking to himself, man, I got all my people out here.
4:25Y 'all come out. We put on this lackluster performance in front of my folks out here. Yeah, he got a little beside himself. He was pissed off, I could tell. But I thought his play was pretty good. Uncle Ocho, he was balling. He had 30, I think, like in the third quarter. Like they couldn't stop him. But nobody else was giving him anything on his team. Plus, the Hawks were – man, they was hitting on all cylinders. Okay, Ocho, they wasn't missing. They moving their basketball, everybody touching it.
4:53Shannon Sharpe:Didn't they have like 20-something three, Joe? Here's the thing, because I've been hearing a lot of the rumblings about Trey Young when he came back. You know how the Hawks haven't been playing great. You can't game plan for the guys who's out there. Now, when Trey is not out there, it's hard to game plan for those guys. You know what I mean? Like when Trey is out there, he's such a focal point of the offense that, you know, you put so much attention on him that, you know, I think it kind of creates a little havoc or whatnot throughout the team. But I think when Trey doesn't play, everybody just kind of plays freely.
5:28Nobody's really getting double team, triple team. Jalen Johnson has been spectacular throughout this.
5:34Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, where the hell did he come from, Joe? He got hurt last year. He would have been an all-star last year, but he got hurt. This year, they got him in places on the court to where he's so effective, but he's the prototypical forward in today's game of basketball. I mean, he can do everything. He can shoot the three. He rebound, block shots, play defense. He can playmate. He has no weakness. And you can tell, look, if you look at the month of, I think, December, he averaged a triple-double in this whole month of December. He's been balling. He's been balling. he had 34 to 9 on 15 to 22 3 of 6 from the 3 point line 1 of 1 from the free throw line 10 rebounds 6 assists 2 steals and a block but Ant-Man you said Joe Ant-Man had 30 10 of 18 3 of 8 from 3 7 of 8 from the free throw line he played 33 minutes man listen can you imagine if you was playing and y 'all came out here and you playing against the Falcons You got, you know, you out here doing your thing, but y 'all getting blue out.
6:39And you got your whole family and friends out. Like, man, I totally.
6:43Shannon Sharpe:So I cut up on the Falcons. You cut up on the Falcons? Yeah, we went out there at 97. The devil went down to Georgia looking for a soda steal. I did a number on you. I hit him up on you for like five for a buckle, a buckle, three in a tub, 64 yards, second play of the game, third play of the game. You come home and show up and show out. Yeah, I had 20 tickets. I had them spit that, but they got to see me show out. Imagine what Ant-Man had to spend, bro. Oh, yeah, for sure. It just wasn't a game, man. The Hawks was hitting on all cylinders. And, you know, I know he probably was like, man, we got to come right here and get a win.
7:16And it just didn't happen that way. They actually got embarrassed.
7:20Shannon Sharpe:They did. I mean, the 24, but the game really wasn't that close. It wasn't. It wasn't that close, Joe, at all. Hey, speaking of basketball, you know, I'm down here in the Bahamas, right? Yeah. I'm at the cigar bar at Bahamar, right? I'm sitting there with the missus sitting there smoking my cigar and I'm looking down at my phone and I see somebody sitting in front of me I can see him out of my peripheral he say what's up Ocho and you know I don't really look up I say hey how you doing happy new year sir he say Ocho this is John and I look up and got damn John stars man I stood up man I stood up so hyped what's up bring it in here man boy you in Cambodia you in Cambodia getting frequent flyers ain't you Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know.
8:04That's why they're bringing their new year right. Yeah, I'm going to bring it in right. I'm going to bring it in upside down. But listen to me. Joe, the flight from Miami to the Bahamas is 18 minutes. That's it? Yeah. Yeah. I could have swam here. But you know, I normally fly Spirit. But I jumped on the JetBlue flight, right? Yeah.
8:28Shannon Sharpe:I heard JetBlue got some nice flights. Yeah. Hey, I'll give it$72. Yeah,$70. So I jumped on it. And we're going to the parade tonight. You see what Michelle say? You can see what that say, Unk? Valley Boy. Valley Boy. You see what that say right there, Joe? Yeah. Valley Boy. Yeah. Yeah. The greatest. The incomparable. The only one. The Valley Boy. The Junkanoe tonight. It don't start until 2 in the morning. So I'm excited. I'm happy. I'm sure I have some Junkanoe fans here in the chat. You know, Valley, we're bringing it home today. They have Boxing Day Parade. We came in second. And so we got the New Year's Day parade, which you could brag about for the next 11 months.
9:10Shannon Sharpe:Everybody got a hat on, so I figured I'd put the hat on too. What's your hat say, huh? Nightcap. Yeah, let me tell you something. When we get off this show tonight - It's going down. Boy, that's what it's going to be, nightcap. You hear me? Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Oh, oh, oh, matter of fact, put it back. I'm gonna cap my night. Hey, when I get out of nightcap, I wish I could get on something, but you know, poor hustling, just nobody knows the trouble I see. Hey, Unc, I thought you had something. What happened? Hey, we supposed to have a double wedding in 2026. You supposed to be on point.
9:52Like a number two pencil. You know, I don't want to rehash anything,
9:58Shannon Sharpe:but your money, your boy, money jumped funny.
10:04so you know you know it the phone the phone don't rain quite like it used to you know
10:10Shannon Sharpe:the phone don't right i did change my number but it wasn't ringing like it's supposed hold on i'm gonna tell you something i'm gonna tell you this is this is a good thing this is yeah now if if your phone not ringing because the money's not what it is yeah yeah they not the one for you they're not the one okay i'm glad you said that glad you said that this is what you need to understand see globally not just here in the states globally i'm known for not spending no money okay okay i'm known for not being a tr i see me you know okay like you you know i'm tired i'm a 50 50 okay okay you fit it be a pity baby okay i'm winning hey joe i ain't got no problem pulling what really likes me for me.
11:00You know, so there's somebody out there for you, huh? There's somebody out there for me? Okay. You're going to find it in 2026 in January. Got it. It ain't got nothing to do with no money. You don't need no liability. You right on your... You need you a nice foundation. Huh? Stable. Okay, I'm you can be alone build on a goes you stack you stack one on top
11:31Shannon Sharpe:Well, I was hoping to build I was hoping to build on something into the new year, but you know, okay I'll wait till I get into the new year. I was hoping I had a sturdy foundation But you know, okay, I take your word photo show. Yeah, you good. You good matter of fact I got somebody for you. We're it ain't even about no money. Hey, no They can guide you in the right. Sometimes, Joe, even Ong need direction. And we go. Sometimes a woman can be your GPS. Hey, you ain't got to play cubit with her, man. Just let it happen organically. Let it happen organically for him. I'm just saying, you know, I had me some seeds.
12:13Shannon Sharpe:I got me some seeds. I let them dry. I plant them in further soil. I'm going to see whatever grow. I'm going to see what's going to grow. I don't know what's going to grow, Ocho. I played a lot of seeds, though. Right. Is that right? Mm-hmm. Hello? Well, they out there busting them guns already.
12:31Yeah.
12:35Shannon Sharpe:But I get the frustration, but I agree with Chris Finch. Look, we understand that you frustrated, but your team, they cheer for you when things are going well. Yeah. They need you. They want to see you on the sidelines cheering for them. Yeah, I agree. I get your frustration. I agree. You know what? And I'm sure it needed to be addressed, but I can also understand how Ant-Man feel too, man. What are you doing? I can also understand. What happened, man? I don't know what you're doing. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, man. We can see you, bro. Yeah, we can see you. Hey, you saw I cut out for a minute, huh?
13:15No, you didn't. I did. I seen it cut out for a few seconds, like quickly. Hey, no, I'm saying, hey, my whole Zoom and everything went away. I guess in the hotel. And then it just came back. Oh. Okay, we good. I'm back now. I'm feeling good tonight, but I don't even drink alcohol.
13:37Why hasn't a woman formally participated in a Formula One race weekend in over a decade? Think about how many skills they have to develop at such a young age. What can we learn from all of the new F1 romance novels suddenly popping up every year? He still smelled of podium champagne and expensive friction. And how did a 2023 event called Wagageddon change the paddock forever? That day is just seared into my memory. I'm culture writer and F1 expert Lily Herman, and these are just a few of the questions I'm tackling on No Grip, a Formula One culture podcast that dives into the underexplored pockets of the sport.
14:17In each episode, a different guest and I will go deeper into the wacky mishaps, scandals, and sagas, both on the track and far away from it, that have made F1 a delightful, decadent dumpster fire for more than 75 years. Listen to No Grip on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. If you're trying to keep up with everything happening on and off the court, We've got you covered on the podcast, Flagrant and Funny. You look at the top four number one seeds. What do you think UCLA is going to do? Break down that for me, my friend. Obviously, UConn is the overwhelming favorite in this tournament.
14:52But I'll be honest, I think people are kind of sleeping on Texas. Experts are suggesting that UCLA is the number one challenger to UConn and that right after that would be Texas. S &C is so deep and so thick in just about everything. It really is annoying. So it's UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU. Only ones that could possibly upset UConn. On Flagrant and Funny, we're giving our unfiltered takes on the biggest moments, the conversations everyone's having. So whether your bracket is busted or you just want the latest on the tournament, we got you. Listen to Flagrant and Funny with Carrie Champion and Jamel Hill on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
15:32Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault in Our Stars, and now I guess also as the co-host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer and journalist, and John and I have known each other since we were kids. My first World Cup was Mexico 86. I was nine years old, I watched every game, and I fell in love. On our new podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup. For us, soccer... Football. ...is a story we've shared for over 30 years, since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team.
16:11Very debatable. And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan. I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, its beauty. Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important. Listen to The Away End with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
16:40What's up? I'm Miles Turner. And I'm Brianna Stewart. And our podcast, Game Recognized Game, has never been done before. Two active players giving you a real look at our lives and what we actually think on and off the court. Nothing's off limits. We talk trade requests. What's the vibe of that when it's like your star player is like, well, I want to leave, and then actually now I'm going to stay. We talk tanking. I mean, honestly, like, I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's, like, definitely happening in the WBA. And yeah, we talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man.
17:16You can't be rolling around the city like this the night before games, you know, doing this, doing whatever. And of course, family stories. And I'll be like, mommy, why did you miss that? Mommy, do you play basketball? Check out Game Recognized Game with Stuy and Miles on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama. And this is Freddy Rodriguez. Welcome back to Dos Amigos. Dos Amigos season two, baby! This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy, where we swap stories about the moments that really shaped us on and off camera.
17:59What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now? Is to value time, to be cognizant of time and how important time is. Because once the time is up, it's up, and then that's it. And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that pushed us to grow. And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since like 30, 40 years ago, right? Like we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around. Plus, the door always stays open for a third amigo to pull up a chair. Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the My Cultura Podcast Network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
18:39Shannon Sharpe:The Hawks, oh Joe, the Hawks may look to trade Trey Young this season before he makes the decision on his 2026 player option, but that's if there's a trade market for him. An anonymous exec, it's hard to think that a team trying to win this season that trade would help, especially when you factor in what the team would be losing from players you would have to send back as matching salaries. He doesn't defend, he doesn't rebound, and guys hate playing with him. Damn. NBA insider Mark Stein also reported there is a growing belief league-wide that the Hawks are more open to trading trade away than they've ever been.
19:15Shannon Sharpe:But it doesn't seem like there's interest that's being met with a bidding war. Joe, you're in Atlanta, you know this team, you've played with this team for a number of years. Can you see a scenario in which the Hawks do indeed in fact trade Treyong? I don't see them trading them, Ocho. I think I can see them playing it out. I think me personally, yeah, we got guys on the squad. When Trey's not playing, we can win some games. But, man, if you're talking about winning a playoff series or advancing, trying to get to a finals, just to even get close, you're going to need a game changer like Trey. I know we got Jalen Johnson, but you're going to need two guys.

19:59Y 'all know in this game, bro, you need at least two or three guys to be able to get you over the hump. I think with him spraying his MCL early in this season, obviously it's taken him a little while to kind of get back in red form. I think offensively he's been playing pretty great. The win is just hasn't been there when he's been playing as of late. But if you ask me, I don't think they should trade him right now. I think they got to fine tune on what they have. The East isn't that tough. It is a few teams that's pretty good, but I think the Hawks still have a pretty good chance. You have to be clicking at the right time, man.
20:33You got to hope when March and April come around, you know, you playing high-level basketball.
20:41Shannon Sharpe:You know, the worst thing that can happen, Joe, and you know this firsthand, Ocho, is that getting hurt and the team get an opportunity to look at other guys. is Jalen Johnson because Trey's going to demand the ball is Jalen Johnson this are we going to see Nikhil Alexander Walker do what he does so now him being removed Joe other guys got an opportunity Jalen Johnson is going to be an all star and he's 6 '7 6 '8 it's hard to win with a 6 foot unless you're Steph Curry, who's transcendent, Isaiah. But more times than not, you got to be a big guard. You got to be Kobe. You got to be Michael Jordan.
21:30Shannon Sharpe:As great as Allen Iverson was, he couldn't get them over. You got to be a big guard, and he's not. I don't know if he's six foot. And the thing is, like they said, well, he doesn't rebound. He doesn't play defense. And we're seeing that happen to Luka. Luka's 6 '7". But it's like his feet nailed to the floor. Yeah. So while he might light you up on what happens, see the problem is that when Luka has an off night, his guy is never going to have an off night because he can always get to the rim on Luka. Same thing with Trey. Trey is so small and he doesn't play defense. He's not a pesky – you know, sometimes guys are small joke.
22:11Shannon Sharpe:They're pesky defenders. Like Caruso. You're right. And Gia Caruso like 6 '5". He is? Yeah. Why he looks so small on TV? Because everybody else 6 '8", 6 '9", 6 '7". But it goes back to what I was saying, Anke Ocho. When Trey's on the floor, he's game playing for. He's in the scouring report. People are going to know how to go at him. When he's not in the lineup, it's harder to game plan for the Atlanta Hawks because you really don't know who's going to beat you. Outside of Jalen Johnson, yeah, he's going to do his thing. But outside of him, you really don't know who's going to beat you. Right.
22:52So they have a multitude of dudes who's stepping up, man, and just playing high-level basketball at this point. Right. So, yeah, it's tough. It's unfortunate, man. Man. Hey, Joe, I don't like the part where they say and players don't want to play with him. Where they come up with that? Where they get that from? I don't know, man. I don't know, Joe. I don't know where they get it from. but they be trying to go hey as a matter of fact excuse me for a minute happy new year y 'all let me go get me a kiss for my baby but yeah I don't know I don't know I don't know what they gonna do man
23:31Shannon Sharpe:see what I'm talking about you see they got no regard they got no regard for my stuff happy new year chat happy new year happy new year man happy new year They got all this stuff in my drink. See what I'm saying, Joe? They don't care, look at all this. Y 'all gonna clean all this shit up too. 26, baby.
23:58Matter of fact, we got a star 2026 off the right way. You hear me? I got one for you. Let me know, I'm gonna wait for Unk to be ready. Chad, y 'all ready? Look at that, y 'all got all stuff I'm gonna drink. Hey, you can drink the confetti. That ain't bad. Let me know when you're ready, huh? I'm ready. Hey Joe, what do you call two Mexicans? Since we talking basketball, what do you call two Mexicans playing basketball together? Two Mexicans playing basketball together. Yeah, I'm talking about them boys out there hooping too. I don't know what you got for me. What you call the Bojo? One on one.
24:52Shannon Sharpe:Man, I'm going to give you another drink. Y 'all keep on. Man, what's wrong with you, man?
25:11Oh, what? Hey, Joe, I got about three more in the chamber, Joe. I got about three more in the chamber. Oh, man. Hey, how long you going to be out there in Bahamas, bro? Oh, I go back. I go back. Hold on, when did you come out there for? What is it? Junkanoo. It's like a festival. So similar to like, you know, carnival, like that, like that. But it's Huge You know Huge Bahamian culture That they have On Boxing Day During Christmas They be at Christmas And they have it For New Year's So the parade Start at 2 o 'clock At night Hey You ever been You ever been To that caravan In Toronto Nah It's nice though I heard I heard about it Yeah I heard about it It's like that And listen I ain't been in the wild With you Like some years Like Almost a decade but boy listen man ocho but hey hey you you're doing the right thing you know you with the missus you know hanging out having a good time oh so oh so it's for single phone i ain't saying all that i ain't saying all that i'm just saying i'm just saying yeah it ain't for me just the way the way you're explaining it is letting me know it's like houston i don't belong yeah i don't long there.
26:33So you ain't got to... Hold on, hold on. You don't mess with H-Town like that? Hell no, but I don't do no H-Town? Hell no. Oh, no, sir. I would not go to Houston unless it's work-related. What? Oh, no, Joe. Boy, you been to Houston before? Yeah. What you mean? No, I don't want no part. I don't want no part of that. No, sir. Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, the gas station, you know, you go to a little lounge, a cigar bar. I mean, everywhere. It's too much pressure and temptation. Ain't no night, man. Child, please. Ain't got time for that. Hold on. I thought you and Unk. I thought we all were going to Houston this summer, man.
27:14I got some stuff playing in Houston. Oh, I don't know. Ash, Ash, Ash, no, Ash, no, the cities. I didn't know Houston was on it. Because when I mentioned it to Unk, he was like, he don't want no part of it, too. I say, well, he say, well, if you don't want no part of it, I don't want no part of it. It's still early. It's too soon right now. You know what I mean? When June hit, I can see y 'all right now. Boy, y 'all going to be ready to roll. I already know it. Hey, you know how the horses at the Kentucky Derby, they got the blinders on so they can only see straight ahead? But we got to fly to Houston.
27:50I'm going to have a pair of them on. Shit, I might drive.
27:54Shannon Sharpe:I don't even want to be in the airport. Hey, boy, they out there, Adrian. Man, listen, man We had Young Houston play on last week That might have been I think it was last week, maybe this week Jay Leno Yeah, we had Jay Leno I mean, Joe, I had to ask him Why you play there But how do you How do you do it? How do you stay focused? You know, because, I mean You just gotta have a little self-control A little self-control them yeah yeah yeah yeah sound good yeah it sounds good Joe it sounds it sounds good when you say the best way to be a Joe if you if you an addict you have a drinking problem you can't go to the bar I'm just going to hang out with some friends eventually you're gonna take a drink if you got a gambling problem you can't go to the casino right right how you gonna go to the single hey hey man hey I'm just gonna see I'm just cheering Joe on at the blackjack table sooner or later I'm gonna go in my pocket and put some money down hey I'm gonna get some of this action too well you to think about it uh you know to give you better context and give you better perspective if you are addict and you're a drinker right and and and you got to stay out the bar where the hell goddamn play all the houston is the bar that's what i'm saying can you imagine the combination role in this that babe boy listen so joe boy you're gonna start a pack joe yeah you know how you leave the problem, Joe, you just don't go there.
29:27But what they got business out there for? Business? Oh, I'm going to have my blinders on. I'm going to have my blinders on and my baby with me. My baby on my hip. I'm good. Focus.
29:41Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Man. I ain't never seen nothing like it. I ain't never seen nothing like it, Joe. I grew up on a farm. So I done seen a lot of different animals. I was in 4-H. The county fair, I ain't never seen no ish like that. No, man. It ain't different down there. He's a boy. Hey. God dang. Y 'all still get confetti in my ish? You can drink the confetti. Man, it's a mess. It's a celebration, man. Man, look at all this mess.
30:33Shannon Sharpe:Joe, look at all this mess they got on the floor. You got a vacuum, huh? They got a vacuum. Okay. I ain't gonna even tell them where it is. They got a floor. I'm going upstairs. You good. You good. They done made a mess. Look at the table, man. They done made a mess all on the table, man. Come on, man. Hey, we ain't seen it. Where the dogs at, man? Sleep. Sleep. Hey, go get Titus. Man, Titus up. Titus go to bed at seven o 'clock. Titus be like, Titus get me up at like 7.30. Yeah. I mean, he sleep about 20 hours a day. I mean, he might sleep probably about 22 hours a day. He almost went up by like two hours.
31:13That's like a lion.
31:15Shannon Sharpe:That's all he does. He go on the wall. I take him on his long walk in the morning. Yeah. He come back. He chill. He don't eat but once a day. He just chill, lay down, go to sleep. He be sleeping. Then, like, as he eat around 4 o 'clock. Yeah. Shortly after that, he ready to go to bed. He ready to go play. You ready to go play, buddy? He start walking upstairs. Yeah. Yeah, man. Woo, Lord have mercy. Houston, Houston, Houston. Hey, don't even think about it. I mean, we got such a loyal fan base. Man. Atlanta. We got a loyal fan base in Atlanta. Yes, sir. 31:55Shannon Sharpe:But Houston, Lord, have mercy. Charlotte. But you know, Ocho, you know, Faye be looking up. Faye be looking good lately. Faye be looking real good lately. Right. You know, what, we 16? You two? Oh, we were 16 and 17 on YouTube. Nightcap was 16. Shea Shea was 17. 33:27Like it. Why hasn't a woman formally participated in a Formula One race weekend in over a decade? Think about how many skills they have to develop at such a young age. What can we learn from all of the new F1 romance novels suddenly popping up every year? He still smelled of podium champagne and expensive friction. And how did a 2023 event called Wagageddon change the paddock forever? That day is just seared into my memory. I'm culture writer and F1 expert Lily Herman, and these are just a few of the questions I'm tackling on No Grip, a Formula One culture podcast that dives into the underexplored pockets of the sport.
34:10In each episode, a different guest and I will go deeper into the wacky mishaps, scandals and sagas, both on the track and far away from it, that have made F1 a delightful, decadent dumpster fire for more than 75 years.
34:45But I'll be honest, I think people are kind of sleeping on Texas. 35:25Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. For us, soccer, football, is a story we've shared for over 30 years, since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team.
36:04Very debatable.
36:51I want to leave. And then actually now I'm going to stay. We talk tanking. I mean, honestly, like, I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's, like, definitely happening in the WBA. And yeah, we talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man. You can't be rolling around the city like this the night before games, you know, doing this, doing whatever. And of course, family stories. And I'll be like, mommy, why did you miss that? Man, do you play basketball? Check out Game Recognized Game with Studi and Miles on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
37:31Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama. And this is Freddy Rodriguez. Welcome back to Dos Amigos. Dos Amigos season two, baby! This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy where we swap stories about the moments that really shaped us on and off camera. What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now? Is to value time, to be cognizant of time and how important time is. Because once the time is up, it's up and then that's it. And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that pushed us to grow.
38:10And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since like 30, 40 years ago, right? Like we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around. Plus, the door always stays open for a third amigo to pull up a chair. Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the My Cultura Podcast Network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
38:32Shannon Sharpe:We good, we good. Yeah. Draymond wants Adam Silver to find a way to put LeBron in the All-Star game. I know a lot of people are like, oh, man, he should be an all-star. Shut up. Yes, he should. He's been in the face of the NBA for 20 years. Figure it out. In the first fan vote, LeBron is ninth in voting in the West. You know, he missed the first month of the season. Yeah. We'll see. What is the next vote? Hey, hold up, though. When they implement them rules to where you have to play, what, 65 games? Zebron, he can't play 65. He can't win. He close. He might not be eligible to win any awards, all NBA, MVP, things like that.
39:18Shannon Sharpe:See, Yoke going to run into that problem. And see, now you look at the rule, see, I say it, but no, but y 'all was loafing. Y 'all was loafing and missing all those games. Now somebody that's legitimately injured is going to miss out on the MVP because of the rule. when y 'all made it messed it up. January 7th. January 7th. So they got a new January 7th, which is a Wednesday, a week from Wednesday, a week from today. Today is Wednesday. You on the West Coast. I don't know why you try to talk about you like you on the East Coast. You right here on the West. It is 9-12 West Coast time. Luka is the leading vote getter.
40:07Shannon Sharpe:Nikola Jokic is second in the West. Steph Curry is third. Shea Gildress is fourth. Victor Wimby Yami, Ant-Man. Wow. The Portland guys in front of LeBron and KD. I do thank LeBron. The second vote, I think LeBron will probably be in the top five. Thank you. And in the East is Giannis, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson. Cade Cunningham, Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brown, Carl Anthony Towns, Jalen Johnson, Pascal Siakam, Michael Porter Jr. They round out the top 10. I don't think Brown, I'm going to be honest with y 'all, I don't think Brown really cared about playing an all-star game. If y 'all just want me to be 100, I think he wants to do whatever he can for the Lakers to make a nice playoff run.
40:53Yeah. Not with that defense. They ain't making nothing. I mean, they probably got to make a few changes, though. But I'm sure he'd much rather go deep into the playoffs versus – I don't think he really cares about playing an All-Star game. But, you know, from a fan's perspective, I can understand to see why, you know, people would want to see him in the All-Star game. He's done so much for the game, man. He's been – I mean, he's been unbelievable.
41:22Shannon Sharpe:Well, good luck to the guy. I mean, look, he's been 21 straight times. 21 times starting. So good luck to somebody breaking that record. Wimby got hurt tonight. We'll see the extent of that injury. Nikola Jokic is injured. He's going to miss. They say they'll reevaluate him in a month. We'll see how that plays out. So he could rise. He could easily rise up the rankings, and we'll see how that goes. Probably if this was his last year, if he told Adam Silver this was his last year, oh, he's going to be in the All-Star game. It'd be just like the D-Wade situation. Oh, yeah, for sure. So that's where we are on that.
42:02Shannon Sharpe:I don't look. He's averaging. What's he averaging now? What is he averaging? About 19 points a game? I think he's about 19, 20. I think he's about like 22. I think he's about like 20.3. 20.3. Okay. Man, listen. For this to be his what? 21st season? 23rd. And he finna turn 41? Yep. He turned 41 yesterday. That's impressive, bro. That's impressive. Very. And if he was somewhere where he had the ball in his hand, oh, he'd average 24-25 again. But he's off the ball now, so he doesn't have the ball as much as Luka. He doesn't have the ball because he can play off the ball. Now, it's not his strong suit, but Luka can't play off the ball.
42:52Shannon Sharpe:Luka got to have the ball in his hand in order to be effective. and I think but I think instead of just sticking LeBron in the corner I think he and Luka should play more pick and roll sticking LeBron in the corner that ain't I think what happened when he came back because you know he missed the start of the season and Luka and AR was so hot it was hot as fish grease and start the season he didn't want to mess that up so that's why he came out you can see he had the one game where he didn't score 10 points but for the most part he came out as a facilitator he was just trying to keep everything ain't copacetic.
43:25I'm going to keep letting y 'all be the superstars that y 'all been this whole season, and I'm going to just fit in with the guys. I enjoy watching that part, but I think what has happened is it got him out of rhythm. You know, he's a rhythm and timing guy. So if I'm out here facilitating for three straight quarters, then when the fourth quarter get hit, it's kind of, you know, it's a little hard for me to kind of get into my bad. You know what I mean? And I think that's kind of what he's dealt with to kind of start the season anyway when he first came back because he was facilitating so much, he wasn't in no rhythm offensively.
43:59Shannon Sharpe:I agree. I agree. So it's going to be interesting. The only way he'll get in, he'll get a special invite through Adam Silver. I don't know if he'll be because it's the top. They just take the top five guys now. So it might be five. So right now, as it sits, it'll be Luca, Nicola, Nicola, Steph Curry, Shea Gildress, and Victor Wimanyama. That would be your starter. And in the East, it would be Giannis, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham, and Donovan McNabb. So one team would have three guards and two bigs, and the other team would have one big and four guards. Yeah, it'll be. So it would be Giannis, Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham, and Donovan Mitchell against Luka.
44:44Shannon Sharpe:But remember this year, Ocho and Joe, they split it up. Yeah. So it's going to be three divided up, and the Europeans, the world, take on the Americans. So I don't know how this thing will go, but it's not going to be a typical East-West All-Star game, which I think they should probably go back and start doing a typical East-West All-Star game. Yeah.
45:12Shannon Sharpe:Following the Lakers' loss to the Pistons yesterday, LeBron was asked, what advice would he give an 18-year-old self? It's a lot. a lot of advice I would give him. I would just say, keep the main thing the main thing. Work hard. There's no substitute for hard work. I think hard work and dedication, if you want to be great, gonna pay off. Keep the blinders on. As much as they praise you, it's even triple, quadruple people trying to bring you down, which is absolutely true. And they want to tear you down every single day. Protect your family. Protect your mental space. It's a lot more, but that just goes to have fun and enjoy the ride because you never know when it comes to an end.
45:48Shannon Sharpe:It goes fast. Very fast. He's the most loved player. He's the most talked about, but he's also the most vilified. And he understands that. He understands that.
46:05Shannon Sharpe:No matter what he does, LeBron could have won 10 championships and he's never going to be loved like Jordan. He was never going to be loved like Kobe. It is what it is. Yeah, man. Ain't nothing you can do about that. Just play your best. I don't know if you actually came into the game to be loved. You came to be the best you could possibly be, and then you were willing to let the chips fall where you may. But Jordan just got such a head start, and he had the shoes. He had all those commercials. Kobe, the same thing. He was 17-year-old, and he grew up. They watched a kid become a man, become a father, become a husband, right before their eyes.
46:49Shannon Sharpe:maybe if he could have accomplished everything he accomplished in Cleveland, maybe because Jordan, all the Jordan accolades came from Chicago. All the Kobe accolades came from the Lakers. LeBron, some came from Cleveland. Some came from Miami. Some came from Cleveland again. Some came from the Lakers. You saying that's why some people, some people give him a little knock because he had, he traveled around.
47:15Yeah.
47:15Shannon Sharpe:Yep. But if he'd have had a Jerry Krause or if he had a Jerry West that could put a team together, he wouldn't have left. But – and plus now they've made ring culture. And it used to be like that, Ocho. Yeah. Joe. So guys were willing to stay. But now you call me a bum if I ain't got no ring, I'm going to get that ring. And then what y 'all say? And then y 'all poop on me when I get a ring. Like Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant says, I do not want to be the best player without a ring. Because that was the title y 'all bestowed to Karl Malone. That's the title y 'all bestowed upon Charles Barkley. I don't want that, Monica.
47:59Shannon Sharpe:And then they beat him up. They said he didn't have a ring. He go get a ring, but you took the cheap way out. Can't win. He can't win for losing. Can't win. Kobe had Jerry West. Michael Jordan had Jerry Krause.
48:20Shannon Sharpe:So LeBron says, if I'd have had somebody as competent as those guys, guys that are in the Hall of Fame, Jerry West is in the Hall of Fame as a player and a general manager, well, I probably would have stayed. I would have stayed. Probably would have stayed. If I could have got somebody to come to Cleveland, it's hard to get somebody to come to Cleveland. That's not New York. That's not Miami. That's not LA. Giannis is finding out that the hard way. Remember Giannis say, oh, I don't want to go join nobody. And then the thing that I don't like about Giannis, he's talking about that's between my agent.
48:49Shannon Sharpe:The agent works at the behest of the player. You see how he's trying to absolve himself, Joe? Yeah. But my agent, whatever conversation my agent is having, that's the conversation he's having. Really, Giannis? You really expect us to believe that that agent is not working at the behest of you? Everybody don't want that. LeBron took LeBron did what he did so everybody else could run. Kevin Durant could run the Golden State. Everybody else could do what they did. He took all those arrows. He was the first big, big name to move. There ain't nothing. Ring coach. Because you tell me I'm a bum if I ain't got no ring.
49:35Shannon Sharpe:I can average 30. I'm a first team All-NBA selection for seven, eight, nine years, Joe. I've gone to the All-Star game 12, 13 times. But I'm a bum because I ain't got no ring. Some guy that just happened to be on a team, he the fourth guy on a team. He starts, but he the fourth guy. He got a ring, and you said he better than me. Yeah. That's how it go, man.
50:03Shannon Sharpe:That's how it is, bro. Good news, Spurs fans. Victor Wimby Nama lipped off the court in the fourth quarter of tonight's 134-132 win over the Knicks after his left knee buckled as he tried to secure a rebound under the basket. Wimby said afterward he suffered a hyperextension and the initial test did not reveal any other issues. He said he would not have more testing done. He said he would have more testing done on Thursday. I'm very confident. I was this close to coming back in the game. They had to hold me back. It was just one of a hyperextension, so it should be minimal. We've got to do everything tomorrow to check that everything's okay.
50:41Shannon Sharpe:I expect to be back next game. He did. Ocho, Joe, because he's so tall, he's going to have issues. He's going to have issues. I mean, he's 7 '4". His quads are only so big. They're going to only be able to take those shock absorbers. It's only going to be able to take so much pressure off of his joints. You know, hyperextension, it ain't that bad. I know when you do hyperextension, you need. I hate that spaghetti feeling. It feels like it's not together, and you're really cautious. But give him a few days, maybe a week or so. Man, listen. Ocho, the man's 7 '5". Man, all legs. All legs. I think this is something that you definitely got to worry about.
51:33I mean, this ain't no normal person like you at 6 '1", 6 '2". Hey, Joe, I'm 6 '3", Joe. Don't do that. All right. You say my bad. You're 6 '3"? Yeah, okay. My bad. My bad. So, you know, your bounce back is a lot different from somebody who's 7 '5". You feel them bad? So, yeah, I think the Spurs need to take, you know, precautionary with this, man. Don't rush, big fella, because see, what's been happening, our stars in the NBA, bro, are getting hurt, and it's killing the guys. game. It's killing our game, bro. We want to see the best out there competing on a night-to-night basis. And when your best players get hurt, look, Jokic's going to be out for a month.
52:15I love watching Jokic play out there, killing them boys. The boys can't jump over a phone book. You hear me? Man, I'm talking about...
52:22Shannon Sharpe:He's the MVP right now, dude. He's the MVP, but he's not going to be able to win it because he's not going to be able to make the quote That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. It's hurting, it's killing the game, bro. It's killing the game. I hate that for you because it didn't even look like nothing really happened to him.
52:44Shannon Sharpe:He got somebody stepped on me like he hyperextended his knee. He dodged the bullet for sure.
52:56Shannon Sharpe:He dodged the bullet for sure. But I'm glad to see Wimby's okay. Everything looks like he's going to check out, and he's going to be fine. He's going to be able to go the next game or at least the next game. Ocho, Joe Burrow discussed the mindset when facing Miles Garrett and Weed 18 as Garrett closed in on the NFL sack record. Burrow said, I'm certainly not going to overcompensate either way. I'm not going to go out of my way to not let him get the record, and I'm not going to go out of my way to let him get the record. Either way, I'm going to play football. Yeah, there's gonna be a situation that a sack is the best of the bad outcome of that play And then maybe I take one there's gonna be other situation that I'm about to get sacked and I need to throw it away in that Situation I love his mindset.
53:40Hey, I like it too. I like it too But obviously the person that it need to be asking that question to is the officer line That's yeah should have been asked to obviously reporters don't want to go there They probably don't want to ask that to them. But listen I was very hesitant in saying I don't want Miles Garrett to get the sack record, you know, against the Bengals. But the fact that I'm going to be at the game and I ask him for the jersey that he gets a sack record with, I'm going to allow him to get one sack. I'm going to allow him to get one sack, but now I'll be in the building, Joe, to be able to collect that jersey I asked for.
54:21So, you know what? Congratulations.
54:23Shannon Sharpe:You do realize Hall of Fame is going to be on the hand too often, right? I can tell you what. I can tell you what. There's one thing. Listen, Miles Garrett can do two things. He can get the sack record on Sunday, and he can give that jersey to the Hall of Fame after he already promised me, or he can get that sack record and hand the jersey over to me like I asked, like he promised me first. So two things can happen. You can hand it to me and go ahead and live your life after making history, or you can get your ass on it. I think he's going to take the second one. I think he's going to be... Yeah.
55:00I would hate... Hey, Joe, I would hate to have to beat the fuck up out of Miles Garrett for choosing to get that damn jersey. After I already asked for it, I would hate to have to do that. That's my point. Oh, Joe, that's going down in history, man. That may get that sack record. You think you're going to get that jersey? Yeah, Joe. I asked for it, Joe. Man. I asked for it. I'm telling you, Joe.
55:26Shannon Sharpe:I think he get two sacks on Sunday. I said one. We'll give him one. We'll give him one. We ain't going to give him two. Hold on. One breaks the record or two breaks it? Yeah. Oh, two breaks it? Okay, okay, okay, okay. One breaks it. He has 22. One will give him 23. The record is 22 and a half. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, Joe, he can give him another jersey. Let them put that in there. But give me the original one. I want to frame it. I want to put it up in my game room. No, they're going to take that one because that's the jersey that's going to have the dirt on it. That's the jersey that's going to have the stains on it.
56:03Don't worry about it. They can put some stains on the other one. There ain't nothing to go outside and rub that goddamn... Well, that got him in trouble.
56:11Shannon Sharpe:That got some people got some time. Hold on, hold on. So he can't keep his jersey for himself? he can if he want to but the hall of fame is going to request it and it's an honor to have that jersey in the hall of fame that's why a lot of the tom britt tom stuff is in the hall and it's an honor it's an honor for ocho to have the jersey too nah because it's gonna probably end up in somebody auction house with ocho gig nah that ain't gonna happen because there's gonna be no reason for me Ocho ain't going to be here forever. Okay. What's Ocho? What's Ocho like my kids? What they do, what I do with it, how I cherish it, that don't mean they're going to cherish it the same way.
56:53Man. Oh, my God. Hey, I know, listen, I love Miles Garrett, man. Miles, he promised me. And one thing about a man, all we have is our word. if you promise me that jersey and you choose not to give it to me two things gonna happen karma and I'm gonna beat your ass
57:16Shannon Sharpe:well I'm sure he's like if I get that sack record whenever karma comes with that I mean because he's so young and he's so far ahead of the pace yeah there's a chance he can get Bruce's record of 200 sacks 200 and a half sacks or 202 whatever that case may be there's a chance I'm going to put it in the end. . . . Thank you. Uh, Miles Garrett, I mean, he got a, how many sacks has Miles got? 120? He's way ahead of the pace. I mean, he's blistering. Yeah. Now the problem is the sack didn't become official stat until 1982. They were second, a quarterback in the 30s, 40s, and 50. He got 124 and a half.
58:02Shannon Sharpe:He's not even 10 years in the league. What is he? Eight? He's the eighth year? He's nine years in the league So he's averaging 12 and a half 13 sacks a season I think Bruce What did Bruce play? 20? 19? Bruce came in at 85 Bruce came in at 85 And he left in I think he left in 03 So Bruce played 19 Man get Miles Garrett up out of that man Reggie played I think Reggie played like 16 or 17 and he got 198 and a half. Joe, where you wanting to go, Joe? Man, come on. And don't say Dallas. Why not? See, yeah. Can he get after the quarterback? Yeah, yeah, he can. Hell yeah. One of the best to do it. One of the best to ever do it.
58:54You need to get him out of there, man, let him go play some meaningful football now. I like the way it sounds.
59:02Shannon Sharpe:I think he might be two or three years away from that, Joe. You think so? I don't think Cleveland's ready to give him up just yet. How many years he in on that deal? I know he got a big deal. How many years? He signed a four-year deal, but he had two years left, so he got another five years on it. Yeah. I know one thing, Joe. He might not see them years. He don't give me that goddamn jersey, but I'll tell you that. Joe, you can cancel that, brother. Hey, hey, there's going to be some things canceled. They're going to beat me. But the problem is, Ocho, I mean, Joe, is that they got a lot of, you know, there's going to be a lot of suitors.
59:41Shannon Sharpe:Now, the Cowboys do have the capital because they got two first rounders next year and they got another two first rounders the year after. Yeah. So they got the arsenal to go get him. Yeah. If Cleveland's willing to let him go. And this would be the good time to let him go, Unc, if the Cleveland Browns are serious about building something because they can get the most value for him right now. Not later. You can get the most value, the most pieces for him if you're serious about building and changing the culture over there in Cleveland. Why? Because you didn't win with him. You didn't win with him.
1:00:23So you know what you need. You know what you need. He can really help him, team. Wow.
1:00:29Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, big time. Man, look at this. Michael Irvin took his belt off.
1:00:36Man, by crazy. He was whooping the trash can. Yeah, man, that dude. Hey, Ojo, why didn't you go to UM? Why didn't you go to University of Miami? What, Joe? Man, with that joke of grades, Joe. He couldn't get in prison with them grades. Joe, I ain't had no grades to go there, Joe. Joe, I couldn't even get in the goddamn fair news, Joe. Joe he couldn't get in prison with them grades hey Joe hey Joe wasn't high school but I was a knucklehead Joe and I'm not talking about a knucklehead like you know in the street or just Joe I wasn't going to come to school when you want to leave when you want to I don't know hey Joe I went to school on Miami Beach Joe Miami Beach senior high I was on South Beach for high school that's why my grandma ain't want me in the inner city where I grew up going to school with them boys it would it would it would have been even worse so if i ain't do right over there you know with them folk imagine me in the city with all my home boys
1:01:36Shannon Sharpe:if you get chat if you get an opportunity to party with one guy in your lifetime let it be mike if you get an opportunity to party with any athlete any superstar any podcaster any person let it be Mike. It go hard like that let it be Mike. Let it be Mike. Mike is the greatest. Mike is the greatest. One day I'm going to tell y 'all the story how Mike and I stole Gary Sheffield Winnebago.
1:02:12Shannon Sharpe:I started to bring that up during the interview Ocho but Mike and I stole Gary Sheffield Winnebago at the Super Bowl in Atlanta back in 99. I'm going to leave it at that.
1:02:27Shannon Sharpe:Woo! What a time. What a time. What a time.
1:02:35Shannon Sharpe:I think he breaks the record, though, Joe. You think he gets the record? You said he does get the record. Joe, you think he gets the record? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know I was sitting talking, you know, trying to support my team, but Myles Garrett is probably – he wasn't able to get it last week. I'm not sure the Bengals will go away from doing what the Steelers did where they were so worried about him getting the record they weren't able to play their game offensively it took away from them offensively you running booze you running rollout you got the guys chipping and they can't get in routes real quick people are like why Gary Sheffield had a Winnebago Super Bowl I'm like hey what up Sheffield how you doing Mike, I'm like, Mike.
1:03:20Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, what up, you know how Mike is. You know Mike animated. What you doing, Sharp? I'm on whatever you want. Let's just say Sheffield went in A. We took the Winnebago. I called a cab to come get me the next morning. I couldn't drive the Winnebago. I couldn't drive the Winnebago home.
1:03:50Shannon Sharpe:Lord have mercy.
1:03:56Shannon Sharpe:Boy, it might go hard in the paint, boy. Hey, that was a great time. Great time was had, Chad. Great time was had. Y 'all know that. Dan Lanning continues his crusade this week against the current college football playoff schedule. There's clearly a better way. Every playoff game should be played every single weekend until you finish the season. The season needs to end January the 1st. We've given up some of our days to the NFL. Saturday should be sacred for college football. Every Saturday through the month of December should belong to college football. In my opinion, Lanning also said earlier this week that he believes all games leading up to the 90 should be played at the Higher Seeds Stadium, effectively calling for the end of bowl games.
1:04:38Shannon Sharpe:Man, since the college football playoff, I would be honest, Joe Ocho. Yeah. I don't even watch the bowl games no more. No. No. Ocho, we used to look forward to the bowl games meant something. The Orange Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Peach Bowl, the Blue Bonnet Bowl, all these bowls, they meant something. Ocho, man, don't nobody care because they ain't playing for nothing but some headphones and a swag bag. Right. I'm being honest, Chad. I ain't trying to be disrespectful. Congratulations to all the teams. Excuse me, that made a bowl game. Right. But now with the college football playoff, that's all people care about.
1:05:14Yeah. And if your team is not in the playoffs, the only people that are watching the bowl game are fans of that specific team. I get you. I get you. I'm with you when you're right again.
1:05:28Yeah.
1:05:29Shannon Sharpe:I mean, you look at any game like, bro, I'm like, and this is what you have. And so, and they're talking about what, increase the 16. Ocho and Joe, if you increase the 16, you might as well just do away with the bowl game because you ain't got but 42 people. The only people in the bowl game watching now are family members. Right. From both teams. Basically. I'm just –
1:05:55Shannon Sharpe:I don't know what college is going to do. They got all this money. They got to do something. They got to do something. Because these bowl games – And kids, if you – And the thing is, Joe and Ocho, if you're a college kid and you got a high grade on you, Are you really playing in the bowl game that's not going to lead to a national championship? Really? Absolutely not. No. Especially if you have an opportunity going to the draft. Nah, you're not taking that chance. Well, it depends on what type of money you're making. These professional athletes now. These ain't just regular college students no more, man.
1:06:32These dudes making money.
1:06:35Shannon Sharpe:Absolutely. But I agree. They need to go ahead and get it because if you complete with NFL, you're not going to win. Nobody that competes with the NFL, not NCAA basketball, not NBA basketball. If you go look at the college games, the NFL did three, four times the ratings that NBA did. Mm-hmm. Ain't no competing. And I get Charles Barkley and everybody saying, Who won Christmas, though? With the NFL. It ain't even close. Okay. Three to four to one. And I get it. The NBA used to be, Christmas used to belong to the NBA. Yes. But not no more. Y 'all know how the NFL, the NFL by that dollar wasn't, because the thing is the same thing, the NBA.
1:07:23Shannon Sharpe:Everybody at home, Joe. Ain't nobody working on Christmas. For the most part, I mean, obviously you got convenience stores in certain situations that people open. But for the most part, people at home watching. Yeah. And if I say, hmm, I wonder if they'll watch us. We'll sprinkle a game in here. Oh, they really watched us to the 220 plus million. Let's add another one. Let's see if they watch. To the 220 something million. We'll go ahead and add a third one. So if you think about, if you combine all the games that play basketball games that were played, they might beat one NFL game. Yeah. See, they started playing at 12 o 'clock noon.
1:08:03Hey, and that all depends on the scheduling too and who's actually playing. And think about it.
1:08:09Shannon Sharpe:And look at the games that we had. We had Dallas and the Commanders. And neither team going anywhere. Mm-hmm. 20-something million. Then we got the Lions and the Vikes. 27 million. We got Kansas City with no Mahomes. No starting corners. 20-something million. Yeah. You got Luka. You got KD. You got LeBron. 5 million. That's it.
1:08:41Damn.
1:08:43Shannon Sharpe:I mean, look at the game now. You got the Broncos and Kansas City. Kansas City ain't going nowhere. You got the Dallas Cowboys and Commanders not going anywhere. You got now, I mean, Detroit was struck. Minnesota not going anywhere. Detroit was on life support. in the top NBA game Minnesota and Detroit did four times the numbers
1:09:10Shannon Sharpe:NBA y 'all can complain all y 'all want to Charles it ain't never going back dang y 'all here to stay when the NFL see they got Thursday game y 'all might as well just catch a
1:09:25Shannon Sharpe:Saturday games If the NFL pops up, say, let's see what the NFL play in. Nah, we don't want no part of that. Y 'all go ahead. Y 'all can have it. Y 'all already know Sunday is a no-go. Yeah. Nothing should be. Nothing should be. The only thing you should do on Sunday is go to church. And everybody try to go into early service to get their ass home so they can catch the 1 o 'clock game. The 1 o 'clock game, yeah. That's the only thing you should do on Sunday is go to church. If you talk about going to another sporting event, it's a wrap up the NFL zone. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. So, I agree with Dan Lanning.
1:10:02Shannon Sharpe:This thing should be over because you don't really, you ain't really trying to go head-to-head with the NFL. Oh, Joe and Joe, it's time to prize pick. Flair Fade presented by Prize Pick.
1:10:23All right.
1:10:24Shannon Sharpe:We got Elijah Surratt. More than.5 rush or receiving touchdowns. I'm assuming he's from Indiana, huh? He's one of the better players. Ugh.
1:10:43Shannon Sharpe:Ash want me to go with it, so I'm going more. Hold on. He'll have at least a touchdown rushing or receiving. This tomorrow's game? Yeah. Alabama, Indiana. Then we got Isaiah Horton, more than 38 yards receiving. I'm going more. Nate Frazier, 66 yards rushing. He's from Indiana too, isn't he? Yeah, he's going to get that.
1:11:12Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, Nate Frazier. Yeah, yeah, he's going to get that. He's going to get that. I'm going more, and I'm going more. Hey, because he gets to the goal line, they're handing him the ball. So, yep, I'm going more. Hold on, who Georgia playing? Who Georgia play? Ole Miss. Ole Miss? Ole Miss. The running revs? I mean, not the running revs. They're just the rebels. Ole Miss got something to prove. UNLV is the running revs. They're just the rebels against the Bulldogs. Ole Miss got something to prove. Shout out to the crazy resource show, too. Yeah. Oh, that's the guy Ocho. You remember Nate Frazier? He joined the show.
1:11:47Shannon Sharpe:He was level-headed from California. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm pulling for Nate. I like Nate. Come on, Bulldogs. I don't normally root for the Bulldogs, but I'm rooting for the Bulldogs against Ole Miss. $25 to win$150. Download the app today. Use Coach Shannon to get$50 in lineups after you play your first$5 lineup. That's$50 in lineups after you play your first$5 lineup. Prize picks. It's good to be right. All right, Chad. We're going to get you out on this. It's time for our final segment of the evening. It's time for Q and A.
1:12:36Shannon Sharpe:Trill Brown, happy New Year's to my favorite podcast. 2025 was hard, but watching this show may get through it a little easier. Wish you all nothing but the best. More money, more life, more blessing. You ain't telling me nothing, Trill. Everybody, it was real, real difficult. But you know what? What's up? As long as I woke up the next day, everything was going to be okay. That's how you got to do it. Wake up the next morning, you got a chance to be successful. Put one foot in front of the other. Come on, guys. Don't think about what has transpired, what you lost, what you missed, what could have been.
1:13:09Shannon Sharpe:Think about what can be. Ricky, happy New Year, gang. ISO, how's your injury healing? You returning to the Big 3 in 2026. You adding Ocho as a teammate. Nah, he gotta get ready for the podcast Olympics. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, boy. Hey, Joe is going down, Joe. Hey, hey, hey, hey, you heard Rashad McCance? He done wrote a little rap dissing me, man. He did it. Yeah, man. He wrote a rap dissing me and sent it to my Twitter today. Like, hold up. Hey, what's up? I need to get in the studio. Hey, hey, I got to answer your question. I'm rehabbing on the daily. I'm getting back, right? Yeah, yeah. By the time March get here, I'll be back 100 % by the time March get here.
1:14:02Oh, yeah.
1:14:03Shannon Sharpe:The Summer Olympics. Hey, we got the Summer Olympics. You know, the Summer Olympics this year. I think that, where they in London? Where they? Where the Summer? Oh, it was the Winter Olympics. Summer Olympics is going to be in LA in 28. We got the Summer Olympics. Hey, hey. The first. That Summer Olympics. There's some Olympics. I'm going to go. There's some Olympics. That's in LA on the 20, the 20, you said the year 28? 2028, yeah. I want to play in that three-on-three, the three-on-three. That's a three-on-three. That's an Olympic sport now. Yeah. Yeah, I'm trying to get on that team, Ocho, you feel me?
1:14:37Yeah, yeah. I'm trying to be there for that. I'll be up there. Well, all I know is pivot and 520. Hey, pivoting 520 don't stand no chance.
1:14:50Shannon Sharpe:Zero. And Cam, unless you come up with somebody else, you can't even get it because you don't got three guys. You don't got three players. And we don't make accommodations for no two-on-two. Nothing. At all. At all. But PMAT, you already know what time it is. Maxie? Yes, sir. we watching everybody over there darius butler hey nathaniel absolutely nothing jay hawk whoever who else who else out there uh uh gill gill gill yeah gill's a really y 'all can get it too y 'all gonna get it hey hey gilly you and wallow y 'all better find another partner they ain't got ain't got nobody they getting washed and everything too matter of fact hey kenya martin don't kenya martin owe me some cigars, huh?
1:15:43He do. You owe me to Daniel Mark. Daniel Mark. Matter of fact, you know what? I'm going to beat his ass. That's two people. Miles Garrett, Debo. That's three people.
1:15:52Shannon Sharpe:We already know, Joe and Jada. Y 'all fit this one out. Y 'all got the rap. Y 'all got the mics. Y 'all got that. Stay there. Yeah, they don't want no smoke. Y 'all stay where y 'all are. But everybody else, if you got three, man, you got a podcast, you got three. Going down. Y 'all going down.
1:16:10Shannon Sharpe:Florida man, is it true that nightcap is going back on tour and we're returning to Houston. Florida man that is our goal. We are going back on tour. We absolutely are going back on tour and there's a great chance there's a better than 85 90 95 % chance we're going to go back to Houston.
1:16:30Shannon Sharpe:Aaron Oates if Reuben Baines Jr. is somehow still on the board when the Bengals pick they got to take him. I don't know if he's going to be on the board when he pick. Hey that boy is disruptive Man, they ain't going to be on the board. I don't get it. Hey, these scouts are about, oh, his arms ain't long enough. Man, these scouts say some of the dumbest stuff. Turn on the goddamn film. Thank you. What does it look like when you turn on the film? That's the mistake that they made with Aaron Donald. Well, he ain't big enough. He only weighed 270 pounds. He's 5 '11". He's 6 '0". Okay. Defensive player of the year.
1:17:06Shannon Sharpe:Excuse me. Defensive rookie of the year. Three-time defensive player of the year. Eight-time first-team All-Pro, 10 Pro Bowls. For a guy that's not big enough, not tall enough, not fast enough. Now, how dumb do y 'all look? Did you watch him at Pitt? If you watched him at Pitt, he did the exact same thing for the Rams that he did at Pitt. Yep. He didn't do anything different. He cut ass at Pitt. He cut ass at the Rams. Philip Arthur Moore, Happy New Year's, brother. Your show helped bring so much happiness and joy. You're living proof that we're never out, just down. Here's to 2026 and success moving forward.
1:17:47Shannon Sharpe:God bless. Phillip, thank you for your support. You're absolutely right. You're absolutely right. Everybody, you either entering the storm, you're in the storm, or you're leaving the storm.
1:18:03Shannon Sharpe:And no matter how bad you think you got it, somebody got it worse than you. Mm-hmm. pick your head up keep your head up you can't see me going with it down and keep walking straight ahead big mike happy new year's everyone probation should be over now we close big mike we close we close it's over we ain't got time for that matter of fact because of good behavior they let you cut your ankle monitor off sooner yeah we good now we good to go okay we good to go Thank you.
1:19:09Shannon Sharpe:going to say. You know, Ocho comes back with one-liners. I come back with one-liners. Joe do what he does. We have a rundown. That's as organized as we are. We need to have some sequence in which things are going to happen. Sean Montgomery, what's up, fellas? Why can't a receiver win the Heisman in college as the best player, but a receiver can't win the MVP in the NFL? That's a very good question. Very good. Very good question. I don't know because it's just hard.
1:19:47Shannon Sharpe:Because college, they said he's the best college player. That's what the Heisman signifies. But in the NFL, the MVP signifies the most valuable player. Value. That's the question. Value. If a receiver, how was Randy Moss going to win the MVP with 23 touchdowns when Tom Brady threw 50 touchdowns? You know, that's the problem. Yeah.
1:20:19Calvin, when Megatron, he broke the record because it's going to take,
1:20:24Shannon Sharpe:I think you might get a running back, but he's going to need to break ED's record and LaDamian Thomason's record in the same season. in order for him to be the quarterback because these quarterbacks now with the league the way the quarterback is protected the way that the receiver they called the pass interference these quarterbacks will throw for 40 50 touchdowns every year so it's going to take somebody a running back to break ed's record and break laden thomas's record and i think that would be i think that's going to be then you have a no like hold on he broke ed's record a record that's been in place for 40 years.
1:21:04Shannon Sharpe:So a record that's been in place for 40 years and break LeDain and Thomason record, that guy, that running back will win the MVP. Quino, I'm usually listening to Spotify, but I can tune in live tonight. Love y 'all, man. Keep doing y 'all. Bear down, baby. Bears look good. They got a chance to clinch. They still got a chance. They can't get the number one seed, can they? because it would be Seattle or San Fran because San Fran beat them head to head and Seattle has a better record right now. So they can't get the number one seed. So it's Seattle or the Rams. I mean, it's Seattle or the Rams, right?
1:21:44Yeah. Yeah.
1:21:49Mr.
1:21:50Shannon Sharpe:International, Bill Parcells told Bill and Jake, why are you starting meeting without Lawrence Taylor? They're the perfect example. Didn't Lawrence tell y 'all? He was driving around and said, man, why the stadium lights on? Oh, we got a game. I need to go. He go in there and get two sacks. When you the greatest at something, the man was late. The man was late for the flight. He flipped his keys to the ballet and said, I'll be back Sunday. Meet me here. And the guy met him there with his car. Oh, man. The rules are different. Yeah, but listen, everybody ain't Lawrence Taylor. And that was, that was, that was, and a lot of the stuff that LT did back then, you can't get away with that now.
1:22:38Shannon Sharpe:There's too many cameras. Nah. Like Jordan, like Jordan gambling in the casino, you can't do that stuff that Jordan did and everybody. And plus, reporters turned, it used to be when I first got in the league, if the reporters saw you somewhere, Joe, they turned out, they ain't got nothing to do with me. Right. now? Everybody wants a story. K-Flock's attorney bringing a new year with my family, my beautiful girlfriend, Sydney, and our son. I'm a Jets fan, and we need to do some things we need to do to become a contender in 27-28. Happy New Year, guys. You got to get a quarterback. You got to get a quarterback.
1:23:17Shannon Sharpe:Without a quarterback, bro, you just... Yeah, it ain't nothing you can do. And if you don't get one you fool yourself yeah get my bottle back joe look at that well you hey we got you got that look at you finish all night he ain't fooling nobody ain't nobody show out with but but but where 2027 now nah nah come on man come on now man we I bring a 2027 in. I might be a little, I'm telling you now. 2027, when is New Year's Eve next year? It's on a Thursday. We're a day in. I'm telling you right now. I'm showing up late. Y 'all start with Alvin. It's a good day. Okay. It's on a Thursday. So we know we got a show on Thursday.
1:24:08Shannon Sharpe:Joe, Ocho, start with Alvin. Man, we ain't but a few minutes into 26 now. You can't. Hey, Joe. Hey, he got something. I already know. I know he ain't fooling me, Ocho. I ain't doing nothing. I'm laying low. But I bet you 27, you know, I got to do right. You know what I'm saying? I don't want to, you know, he'll call me in and say, well, Shannon, you've been misbehaving. Now you good. But once they, for 2027, that ain't the way it works. Once you are probation, you off. They don't, they don't call you. I'm on probation, but here's the thing, Ocho. I still got some time on my sentence. So I don't want to have to serve the rest of it out.
1:24:56Shannon Sharpe:I don't know if you know how the criminal justice system works, Ocho. I done been in there. I done been in there. Oh, boy, listen. And plus,
1:25:11Shannon Sharpe:my mama told me I need to behave. She told me I need to shave. She sent me a picture of a razor. Nah, nah, nah. Hey, hey, hey, the soft people look good on you. Keep the soft people, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everybody keep telling me that, Joe. Yeah, yeah. Everybody say that. What's up with the naked face, man? Where you going to call on this side? Yeah, what's up with the naked face? Where you stash at? Hey, hey, hey, Joe. Hey, Joe, you know when I was growing up, they called me baby face, Joe. Don't did it? Yeah, they called me baby face. You know? I don't look made. I seen somebody today. I saw them and they were like, well, god damn, Ocho, you look much younger in person.
1:25:53I said, yeah, I'm 57, but I look young. I said, yeah, in person, you look more refined. I ain't never heard nobody describe me like that. Reformed? And I think that's because I keep such a clean look. I guess. Yeah, but I can grow. I can grow something out like Rick Ross. You know, I can, like freeway.
1:26:18Shannon Sharpe:Nah, I got, you know, they gave me, they gave me, they gave me a 10 year probation. I'm on parole right now, Joe. Huh? Damn, 10 years? 10 years probation. Nah, baby. I would have told them 10 years probation. I'll see y 'all soon. Hey, look, I thought in 26, man, we were going to get out here and have a little fun now. Yeah, I don't know. We are. Oh, we going to be having some fun, though, Joe. All right, Joe, we going to have fun. All right, okay. But ain't going to be nothing like compared to 27. 27, I'm in heaven.
1:26:55Shannon Sharpe:Philosophical truth and wisdom. Unfortunately, so many learn sports in the ESPN era because the real greatest quarterback of all time was John Elway. He was Rodgers and Peyton Manning in one. The thing that those guys in the 80s and 70s had to go through, you saw those hits in this documentary man can you imagine they hit a quarterback like that now Joe Ocho he'd be suspended for one or two games damn I was fortunate enough to come up in the early 90s man it wasn't no defensive receiver they didn't call no helmet they attacked the quarterback they dropped their weight on the quarterback I mean, you can look at goose and what he did to rich gather.
1:27:44Shannon Sharpe:He dropped 345 pounds on the shoulder and separated his shoulder But you can't do that now you can't attack the quarterback like that now Dom y 'all be saved them streets or the crib for the night New Year's Eve. Yeah, we
1:28:03I'm getting ready to head out. I mean the area where I'm gonna be at is nice and safe going to go a jump going to enjoy this enjoy this parade you know it's all family and friends and fun
1:28:17Shannon Sharpe:you know I might join you next year I might be a little junk anew come on Unk that's what I'm talking about he just talking I might be a little junk anew they've been asking about you everywhere I go well where's Shannon where's Shannon I say man Shannon way on the other side of the world right now I'm going to tell you say hello Everybody 80. Oh, we have a huge father when I hit me. No, we do huge We get a week at we might be able to we could do a show out here and fill an arena now Hmm Yeah Interesting
1:29:00Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, listen I could talk to the I could talk to the people be out, you know, I'll tell you know what when I take my vacation in June July? Three weeks? Talk to me. I'm going to cut my phone off. I ain't going to even talk to Ash. Where you going to go? Huh? Where you going to go? I can't tell you. Well, hey, you need to let somebody know where you're at so if anything happens, we know where to find you. I'm going to let a few people know. Okay. You going to have a hostage with you?
1:29:31Shannon Sharpe:Woo!
1:29:36Me?
1:29:38Shannon Sharpe:On somebody's balcony. I'm saying. If y 'all see somebody with a ski bag with a shy still on the balcony, it's me. Okay. Okay.
1:29:52Shannon Sharpe:Oh, it's midnight in Houston. Oh, yeah. No, I'm staying out of Houston. I ain't never gonna be in Houston on New Year's. Even if I were to live in Houston, I got the lead. That's okay. Hey. No, sir. Nick Valentin sleep on us again remember what you said
1:30:15Shannon Sharpe:who I slept on architect nice TV question is Caleb Downs the best safety prospect since Sean Taylor respect Eric Berry whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa he's good he's good he's the best right now in this era but not like Sean Taylor. No, he said since Sean Taylor. Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. You know who I really liked as a safety that he reminded me of Ed Reed when he was in Alabama? Who? Xavier McKinney. His range, his ball hawking skills. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He reminded you of Ed. Now, Sean Taylor had range but not like ed but sean was a thumper yeah he i'm down here but you're 6 3 225 you're supposed to be able to be a thumper yeah you're supposed to be able to bump yeah but ed reed i mean when you start talking to ed reed it's like playing out it's like saying outside linebackers look like lt uh i'm i'm i'm i get leery when i hear that i hear when i hear lt comparisons i get real scary.
1:31:31Shannon Sharpe:They can't do that. They can't do that. Nick Mars, don't catch this live often, but thank you guys for getting me through a rough 2025. Here's to 2026, the year Ocho pays unk. I sure hope so. But you know, Nick, it was rough for a lot of people. A lot of people went through worse things than what I went through or maybe what you went through. There's a lot of death. There's a lot of destruction. But you know what? I still believe in the higher power, and everything's going to work out for everybody. So just stay prayed up. Make sure you tell people that you love, that you love them on a regular basis because you ain't promised tomorrow now.
1:32:11Shannon Sharpe:Nobody is promised tomorrow. It ain't written down nowhere where you get to see tomorrow. Yes, sir. But, Nick, thanks for your support, and thanks for watching. DT, Jeremiah Smith, number one overall in 2027. Woo! You would have been number one overall last year. The only two receivers I can remember going number one overall. I think Irvin Frye went number one overall in 84, and Keyshawn went number one overall in 96. Ah, man. This boy got some talent, man. Oh, he unbelievable. He good, man. But it's going to be hard to be number one overall, Ocho, especially with quarterback, because Arch Manning coming out next year.
1:32:53Shannon Sharpe:And he's gotten better and better. I'm telling you, Ocho. All right. Because here's the thing, Ocho. A receiver plays what? A dependent position. If I give you the best receiver and I give you the fifth best quarterback in the NFL, which one you taking? I give you the best receiver in all NFL, but I'm going to give you the fifth. I tell you what, I give you the seventh best quarterback. Which one you taking?
1:33:22Shannon Sharpe:Forget Stafford. Forget Lamar. Forget Joe Burrow. Forget Patrick Mahomes. I'm going to give you the sixth. I'm going to take the sixth best, seventh best quarterback and give you the best receiver. Which one you taking?
1:33:38Shannon Sharpe:You could have Chase. You could have Jetta. You could have Puka. You could have Jackson and Jigba. You could have Pickens. You could have CD. Which one you want? Give me the sixth best quarterback, and I'll give you the best receiver, and I'll beat your ass.
1:34:02oh that's that's tough it ain't tough that's tough that's why they make the big bucks so who we think okay let's say we say
1:34:14Shannon Sharpe:joe burrow no order i'm gonna say top five so we say joe burrow we say lamar we say mahomes We say Josh Allen. Yeah. We say Drake May. We say Matthew Stafford. Mm-hmm.
1:34:34Okay, now we start getting into Dak Prescott.
1:34:42Shannon Sharpe:We start getting into who else? Jayla Hurts. Jayla Hurts, Sam Darnall. CJ Strouds. Yeah. you're not taking you're not taking any of them you're not taking no db i mean you're not taking no wide receiver over any of them and you damn sure ain't taking no wide receiver over the five guys that i mentioned the six guys that i mentioned absolutely not so everybody you name is now proven and showing what they can do at the highest level so if i give you if i give you if i give you chase i give you jetta i give you smith and jigba i give you puka they're proven you taking them over any of those quarterbacks I named?
1:35:22Shannon Sharpe:No. No. No. Oh, Justin Herbert. You taking a wide receiver over Herbert? You might well throw Trevor Lawrence in the picture too then. Okay, there you go.
1:35:40Shannon Sharpe:Do you guys think Ruben Bain should go number one overall draft pick? He's playing like it. He's playing unbelievable. He definitely helped his stock tonight. he played incredible tonight we thought he was a top interior lineman he can rush inside he can rush outside, speed to power he's quicker than you think I like him I can see a scenario he's a top 10 pick I say top 5 and the fact that he's top 5 they already talked about him going top number 1 but what he did tonight and to the team he did it against he did it against on the biggest stage against Ohio State where the world is watching. So, I like it.
1:36:20Shannon Sharpe:I agree. King Gray, 48, Uncle Ocho. Game 7-on-7. Ravens all-time versus Bengals all-time. You both included. Who win? Also, number 82, the greatest tight end in Ravens history. 7-on-7? Man, we beat the brakes off them. Off who? Yo! Who gonna stop me? Man, look here. We got air back there, safety. so they're gonna have Chris McAllister hold on when he was there he didn't stop me so again who gonna stop me Chris McAllister so they got Chris McAllister probably Marlon Humphreys and Ray maybe beat the brakes off y 'all all them names you just named ain't none of them was able to stop me so I'm gonna ask you one more time who gonna stop me and then they gotta see what everybody else oh joe what is this well you know who you're talking to over here what yeah y 'all didn't stop me and y 'all caught me and y 'all caught me i was on the back end y 'all didn't catch me in my prime hold on y 'all call oh we got somebody to stop you we ain't worried about that man y 'all ain't got no stop signs and traffic signs to stop me all right all right don't forget don't forget i was a two-week player that's okay oh i i boy hey hey joe hey joe hey joe i would have locked on what's up man man man man i'm to my i would have been right in this face i'd be hey joe i would have been writing this face just like this talking to him where you going hey hey hey oh he he got enough bricks in the back pocket's doing oh joe joe the first play i ain't even trying to get open i'm running dead over the top of it hey hey joe you know what i'm gonna do i'm i'm gonna do them like like they do you know how to how to matter to the ball and i ain't got time to play with you going with that ain't my game thank you i oh you oh you open the gate hey my grandmother say boy over the door flies come in your house i appreciate you opening the gate you see what happened when D.B.
1:38:25Shannon Sharpe:Open the gate. What happened, Ocho? You gone. Hey, listen. Smell the deodorant. I know it's a run play, so I know what you're doing. I can tell if it's a pass or not. I'm going to do the same way. And we got Jamal. And we got Lamar. Bro, we're going to tear y 'all up. It ain't happening. It ain't happening. Man, look here. Our best 11 defensive players Against y 'all best 11 offensive players Our best 11 offensive players Against y 'all best 11 defensive players Ain't no chance Boy you would have been on the island's train If I was playing with me True and infamous 73 Said Ohio State didn't face any real competition During the regular season Except Texas in week 1 Look at what happened to them Versus Indiana and tonight Well I can't disagree with you right now Now, Earl C., Ryan Day had no business losing that game.
1:39:26Shannon Sharpe:Defense couldn't stop. When they needed it, the offense didn't do enough. Offense couldn't score. Ryan Day would have questions again. Well, guess what? The whole year, I think Brian Hartline called the plays. I don't know why you were changing up tonight, Ocho. Yeah. If he called plays all year long, he been had the job. Mm-hmm. Now you invite questions on yourself that you wouldn't even have to answer had you let them call the play. Oh, well. Jason, go Canes, baby. Everyone doubted this team, but we turn it up tonight. Oh, and it's great to be a Miami Hurricane. Yeah. You got a, to the victor goes the spoils.
1:40:13Shannon Sharpe:Vans, all the hosts, at what point does the desire to be the best become toxic obsession? It is healthy to chase perfection. where do we draw the line? See, lazy people say it's obsession. We call it dedication. Yeah.
1:40:33Shannon Sharpe:Somebody that has a nice body, oh, they're obsessed. They're selfish. Well, just because you're not motivated to take your ass to the gym and be disciplined enough to eat what you're supposed to eat, now I'm obsessed. No, you're just lazy because I want to be the best and you chose to be okay. or me I don't look at it like that mediocre yes some people demand the perfection of themselves look I'm reaching for the stars but if I land on the moon I'm pretty damn high
1:41:11Shannon Sharpe:Trey Bell this gonna turn Jeremiah Smith into a monster next season he's already a monster He can only do so much. He had$7.57 in the tub. What more could he have done? Hell, he couldn't get in the ball from his back.
1:41:27Shannon Sharpe:Dr. Frankie L. Bellamy. Hey, fam. Happy New Year. Thank you for the laughs and the energy. They've carried me more than you know. See y 'all in San Francisco. Love and appreciate y 'all. Thank you, Doc. I appreciate that. Because guess what? You won't be cheering for your team in San Francisco. I bet that. All right. All right. All right. All right. Doc, I appreciate it. Doc was probably, of the first five people, she probably was one of the first five people that started following Nightcap. And she's been to every show. She was in Atlanta. She showed up in Vegas. She showed up in Atlanta. She showed up in New Orleans.
1:42:02Shannon Sharpe:She is one of our most loyal, most faithful, most trusted. Doc, you've been incredible. Your husband has been incredible. We look forward to seeing you in turn, friend. Cali1234, the only bowl game I like, not college football playoffs, is the Pop-Tart Bowl. Oh, somebody, who had the Pop-Tarts on the grill yesterday? Somebody had Pop-Tarts on the grill. I like Pop-Tarts. Blueberry. What'd you do? You throw them in your toaster. I'd eat them right out of the pot, right out of the pan. You don't warm them up? Most of the time, no. Only like 10 % of the time. Me and the dogs be eating them. They love them.
1:42:47Shannon Sharpe:Remedy 944. You can only take one random in their prime. Sterling, Robert Brooks, Ocho, TJ, who you got? Where you going, Christmas Claus? Who? You. Everyone finna hit the streets. Where you going? Man, you in Cambodia about to have a good old time, huh? The parade started at 2 o 'clock. What time is it there now? It's 1.15. Oh.

The number 10-seeded Hurricanes upset the number 2-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes and the defending champs by the score of 24-14. It was a great game. Miami dominated early. Ohio State got back into the ballgame, but they made plays at the end and they end up winning the ballgame. Two wins. Nobody thought Miami would be playing in the Fiesta Bowl, but hey, nobody told that team they didn't belong there. They believed, and here they are. They faced the win of Ole Miss and Georgia in the Fiesta Bowl.
1:49:03Shannon Sharpe:So congratulations to the Canes. They win against Ohio State 24-14. Happy New Year, everyone. Thank you for your support in 25, and we look forward to seeing you in 2026. Stay safe. I'm Unc. He's Ocho. He's Joe. We'll see you tomorrow night. Thank you, guys. He's out.
