In short

NCAA tournament recap and NBA playoff/roster talk. Illinois beats Iowa to reach the Final Four; Arizona beats Purdue to reach the Final Four; then guests discuss Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff elimination and Doc Rivers’ future, plus Philadelphia 76ers’ “big three” resurgence, and broader NBA culture/work-ethic commentary.

Guest backgrounds

The episode is hosted by Rob Gronkowski (Dudes on Dudes) with co-hosts “Uncle Joe” and “Ocho” (former athlete/coach-style sports commentator voices). Doc Rivers is featured via interview clips/quotes; no other named guests appear.

Key claims

Arizona’s freshman trio (Braden Burries, Karchenkov, and others) turned up after halftime and is hard to beat collectively. Illinois’ size dominated Iowa (paint points and rebounding). Doc Rivers’ Bucks failure is blamed on injuries and roster moves for Dame amid Giannis uncertainty; Giannis likely gets traded, and Doc may not stay. 76ers’ Embiid–Paul George–Maxey can make noise if healthy.

Notable examples

Arizona 79-64 over Purdue; Illinois outscored Iowa 40-12 in the paint and won rebounds 38-21; Embiid 29/6/2 blocks; Paul George 26 points; Maxey 26 points/8 assists.

3:43Shannon Sharpe:For the first time since 2001, the Arizona Wildcats are headed back to the Final Four. The top-seeded Wildcats punched their ticket with a 79-64 win over the number two Purdue Boilermakers, setting a school record for wins in a season. 36 in the process, the Wildcats will take their 13-game winning streak to Indianapolis, where they'll play the winner of Sunday's game, Michigan and Tennessee. Against the veteran Purdue team, Arizona was led by its talented freshman, Braden Burries, 14. I can't even say his last name. Carter Nookoff, 18, and core Pete had 20, combined for 52 to up phase on the biggest stage in their young careers.

4:25Shannon Sharpe:I was a little worried in the first half, though, Joe. But, boy, those jokers came out in the second half? I don't know what kind of adjustments they made at halftime, Uncle Joe.

4:35Chad Johnson:Nah. Hey, hey, hey, they coach told them, look, y 'all going to mess around, and we're going to be looking back on this game talking about, man, we should be still playing. That's what he told me. Y 'all need to come out with a little sense of urgency in the second half because in that second half, Uncle Ocho, the two freshmen, matter of fact, the three freshmen, the guy number eight, I can't tell his name neither. But Cole P and Burris, they turned it up in the second half. I thought Cole P really got into his – he got into a rhythm.

5:03Shannon Sharpe:The big boy.

5:04Chad Johnson:He got into a rhythm and he was going at them bigs that Purdue got. That's why Purdue was able to hang into the game And that's why when you see Arizona play against Arkansas, we kind of thin and frail down there. We got guys who can play on the perimeter, but we ain't really got enough girth to deal with them big guys. Purdue had that. Purdue had some big that was going at them. They was offensive rebounding. They was making it tough for Arizona. I just thought in the second half, Arizona, everything kind of slowed down for them freshmen because all three of those guys are freshmen. Number eight is a freshman.

5:34Chad Johnson:Colby is a freshman. Burry is a freshman.

5:36Shannon Sharpe:His name is Cartridge-Hole. Huh? Karchenkov. Karchenkov? Karchenkov.

5:45Chad Johnson:He nice, bro. He nice. Great in transition. Can shoot the three. He played fearless. Get to the bucket. He didn't make no three tonight. But for the most part, he's been a great energy source for those guys, man. They play well together. They got some great, some good bigs mixed in with these freshmen who kind of doing some heavy lifting. I can't Ocho. But they deep. They player of the year was the point guard, bro. Yeah. I don't even know if he was a leading scorer on the team. Maybe he was, but I didn't think he was the best player in the Big 12, that's just me personally. But collectively as a team, I don't really see nobody beating Arizona, man.

6:21Chad Johnson:I ain't gonna lie.

6:22Shannon Sharpe:It's gonna be interesting to see what Michigan does with Tennessee tomorrow. We'll see what UConn and Duke does. Woo! That's gonna be a good one, boy. Yeah. But Arizona look good. They look good. Four guy plays, had four guys in double figures.

6:38Chad Johnson:they did because hey hey Purdue Purdue is a disciplined team on can Ocho they ain't you know they ain't gonna typically beat themselves they had a few turnovers here and there but for the most part they play the right way they play through they beads they point guards play make score I think I mean it was a tough game like you said in that first half huh I thought Purdue was gonna run away with that thing yeah I did too it was on locked in that second half fellas to go.

7:03Shannon Sharpe:When they came out in that second half, it was like, ooh, damn. They started letting them threes go. They started crashing the boards and getting second chance opportunity. I'm like, okay. And you see, once they got the lead, pretty soon you ain't see nothing but taillights.

7:20Chad Johnson:Everybody pitching in, doing something. They a great team collectively, bro. They're going to be tough to beat. I ain't going to lie. They're going to be tough to beat.

7:32Shannon Sharpe:Illinois going to their first final four since 2005 when they were led by Darren Williams. The college team in college basketball figured how to use their size to an advantage. The third seeded Illini outscored the ninth seeded Iowa 40-12 in the paint and out-rebounded them 38-21. Whoever said size doesn't matter?

7:53Chad Johnson:L.I. Illinois got that big 7 '1 junior. They got down there. That big boy in the paint playing around these perimeter guards that they got who can score. You know, Keegan Wagner, he going to be a lottery pick. Okay, Ochoa, in this year's draft. Oh, hey, he got busy today, Joe. Yeah, that's another freshman. That's another freshman stepping up, making plays, playing huge. Guess who else stepped up, Joe? Who? Stojakovic. There you go. Yeah. You know what? He might come out too, Uncle Ojo. He might. He played well. He played well today. I mean, super efficient. You know, we look at his dad because his dad was such a great three-point shooter.

8:37Chad Johnson:He can do it. But this boy, he get to the rack. Uncle Ojo, he ain't even shoot no three tonight. Nah, he was seven. He had 17 points. He was seven for nine. Yeah. He did that off the bench too, Uncle Joe. Yeah. He been doing that all year though. I ain't going to lie to you. I done seen Illinois play a few times. He been doing that all year. He been doing that all year. Illinois has got a great chance. Yeah, you got them big boys in the paint who know how to play and ain't going to take no bull drive down there. You got you a few guards who can get to that chicken. Yeah. And you got a chance.

9:12Shannon Sharpe:Hey, the Illini, man, they look good. Iowa hung around as long as they could.

9:20Chad Johnson:Yeah, they did.

9:20Shannon Sharpe:They really needed their guards to play above their head.

9:24Chad Johnson:Yeah.

9:26Shannon Sharpe:Sturtz played well. I mean, he did what he did. He does what he normally does. He did what he was supposed to do. And, hell, I don't think he's been off the court. I think he's played all 40 minutes down in all games.

9:40Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah, nah, he did. Shit, he had to. What we saving you for? Yeah, you're going to have a whole week of rest if we can win. Hey. But yeah, they guards. They guards. They had to get something from your guards, bro. At this juncture, you know, the tournament, you got to have some guys who you can lean on perimeter-wise, but you also need some good bigs, you know, who gritty, tough, and can get you some chippies around the basket.

10:06Shannon Sharpe:Right.

10:07Chad Johnson:Illinois is ready, man. They ready for the next round, fellas. They might be. Who they got next, huh? They don't play Arizona, do they?

10:15Shannon Sharpe:No. Wow. Yeah, we got it. Yeah. Hey, either way, that's gonna be hell either way. Whoever they got to play out of them two is gonna be hell, boy.

10:27Chad Johnson:Man.

10:29Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Cause they're on the sea.

10:32Chad Johnson:Yeah.

10:33Shannon Sharpe:And then the winner of, who's the out here at the bottom, Iowa State and Michigan.

10:41Chad Johnson:Ocho, you got Arizona winning? You got Arizona winning? it go ahead hey hey hey hey hey you know my bracket my bracket's still intact baby i told you i told you hey hey i ain't gonna lie to you oh joe you do you do for a win bro you do for one you do for one like that joe don't do me like that you do for one you do what we talking about look at my bracket joe huh what we talking about this is what i do joe so you need you hey joe you might have played the game of basketball but when it come to picking winners that's what i do joe I've been a winner all my life.

11:15Shannon Sharpe:See, that's why we can't never let it win. I don't know who works, Ocho or Joe.

11:22Chad Johnson:What? Come on, man. Come on. Come on. I don't brag. I don't brag. Y 'all the one making fun of me. Talk about I pick mascots. Man holl about he don't brag, man. You did. Just got through gloating. Talking about he don't do nothing. He went with all animals.

11:34Shannon Sharpe:I don't remember when, man. Hey, he picked all animals. He got the wildcats. He got Huskies. If you got an animal in your name, that's Ocho T. that's what he did that's what he did see how y 'all know some of the things y 'all don't say hurt me how you know it don't hurt me inside

11:51Chad Johnson:dang your bracket busted too huh oh yeah my bracket I'm done I'm done

Read the full transcript

11:57Shannon Sharpe:y 'all need to just follow my lead from now on

12:02Chad Johnson:your Ocho still got Michigan hold on but if Arizona if Arizona lose their next game I mean what is it it's just a three way tie then, huh?

12:13Shannon Sharpe:Nah, cause he got Duke. He still got Duke. He got Duke going to the Final Four and he got Arizona going to the Final Four. So if one's gonna go to the Final Four, it's over. What y 'all talking about, boy? Hey, matter of fact, you know what I'm gonna do, Joe? Uncle Joe?

12:28Chad Johnson:What you gonna do? I'm gonna play the lotto. I'm gonna play the lotto and I know I'm gonna guess the right numbers. And whatever I win, I'm gonna split it with y 'all.

12:36Shannon Sharpe:You would do that? Yeah, for y 'all? Yeah. Joe, if Michigan goes, you need what you call it, but basically you need him to get knocked out. You only got one chance. He got two chances. What I need? You got to hope Duke and Arizona get knocked out.

13:03Shannon Sharpe:That's really the only chance you got because you still got one team. You got Michigan going to the finals. Hey, hey, hey, hey, long as I got a fighting chance. You hear me? Long as I got a chance, hey, you never know.

16:59Shannon Sharpe:Doc Rivers on the Bucks being eliminated from the playoffs. It's been disappointing, obviously, since I've been here. I haven't had a healthy stretch, and it's been all your key guys. It's been Giannis. It's been Dame. This year having only one quote-unquote star. Every other team has two or three. We needed help. We were thin, and all the talk and all the stuff probably didn't help either. Are those considered excuses? Yeah. When they made that decision to move Adrian Griffin, who was what, 42 and 13, something like that, Joe? Yeah.

17:31Chad Johnson:Yeah, he was doing a hell of a job. I know that. I think they were number what, one or two in the East at the time. Yeah. Yeah. Ouch. I don't know, man. I don't know. What they saying? They getting rid of Doc?

17:57Shannon Sharpe:Look, ever since the uncertainty with Giannis, for the last couple of years, as Giannis going, as he's staying, they got rid of a lot of their roster to get Dame. They gave up a lot to get Dame. That didn't pan out. Dame is back in Portland. Giannis is going to get traded this offseason. I believe so, too. It's going to happen.

18:20Chad Johnson:I believe so, too.

18:22Shannon Sharpe:It's going to happen. He's not going to sign the extension, and they're not going to let him go into that last year and walk for nothing.

18:31Chad Johnson:Absolutely.

18:32Shannon Sharpe:They'll be foolish to do that. So he's going to get moved. And what do you have?

18:38Chad Johnson:Well, you're going to have to hope you trade for something something that's I don't know if you can get equal value for him

18:45Shannon Sharpe:but

18:47Chad Johnson:if you you can get some good compensation for sure but

18:54Shannon Sharpe:in order to get good compensation you're probably going to have to trade him to where he doesn't want to go because you know Joe the team everybody knows what you got to trade him they know you're not going to let this contract the ink on this contract dry and let it walk out the door for free yeah you're not gonna let have an okc situation what happened with kevin durant kevin durant walked out of the door and got you got nothing yeah yeah and so you got to trade him where he wants to be traded probably doesn't have the compensation or the players that you would want to try to rebuild this.

19:43Chad Johnson:I don't know. I think...

19:45Shannon Sharpe:I mean, you got to think about it. When they traded Kareem, you know how long it was before they fielded a contender? A long-ass time.

19:51Chad Johnson:Because it's hard to get free agents in Milwaukee.

19:54Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. You got to draft really well. They did a good job. Yep.

20:03Chad Johnson:I agree.

20:07Shannon Sharpe:Honestly, and I like Doc, I just don't know how he holds on to this.

20:12Chad Johnson:Especially if they...

20:15Shannon Sharpe:They're eliminated from the postseason. They done.

20:17Chad Johnson:Yeah, especially I'm saying, but with that being said, especially if they get rid of Giannis, I can't see Doc staying either. I ain't going to lie to y 'all. I've been trying to figure out, Joe,

20:31Shannon Sharpe:what made them do what they did. They had to have consulted Giannis on this. Ain't no way.

20:37Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah.

20:38Shannon Sharpe:It might have been him. Him and the head coach. Maybe they were cutting heads or something.

20:43Chad Johnson:Maybe, Ocho. And I think they brought Doc in there to be able to deal with Dame and Giannis, you know, two great talents to try and get them to mesh, you know, similar to what he did with KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. I think they brought him in for those reasons, thinking that he could get them over the hump. And they just got bogged down with injuries, bro, and never reached their potential. Damn, that's messed up.

21:08Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, so they wanted to have his clothes for sure. You know, the wheels came off the moment Dame got hurt and they bought Dame out of that contract. Yeah. It was over. Because look at the compensation that you gave up to get Dame. Now you're saying, you know what? It failed. fans of Milwaukee fans, we failed you. Yeah, because you pay Miles Turner with 108 million

21:42Chad Johnson:and talking about you only got one star. Well, hell, you just paid somebody 108 million to come help him. And he wasn't what you thought he would be.

21:52Shannon Sharpe:No. And I don't know what he thought he was gonna, what was gonna happen when he went there. I don't know. Maybe he was frustrated with his role in Indy. I don't know, Joe. Maybe he thought with Dame there, you know, Giannis, I can anchor the defense, get some easy buckets because they're going to load up to stop Giannis and load up to stop Dame, and I'm going to be working some one-on-one.

22:18Chad Johnson:And he was thinking more of, you know, you look at Giannis, who you know is a downhill demon. He going to get downhill. He going to create habit. And if I'm a center, if I'm Miles Turner, where I'm going to be? I'm going to be spotted up at that three-point line. I'm going to keep floor space. They paying me to keep this floor space, keep these dudes honest, and lay Giannis work. And it just hasn't been the case, bro.

22:47Shannon Sharpe:And that's the thing when you're talking with free agency. You never know.

22:50Chad Johnson:You don't, man.

22:52Shannon Sharpe:I mean, when they broke that team up, well, what really happened is Chris Middleton got hurt. once Chris Middleton hurt that knee he was never the same he was never the same it took him a couple of years and then they ended up moving on he wasn't the same they let Holiday go they thought they could fix it with Kuzma and some other pieces Gary Trent Jr and it just didn't work I like Bobby Portis off the bench but it just didn't work Yeah.

23:28Chad Johnson:No, I think Bobby's been giving him great minutes. Even because when them guys sit out and he start, he going to get you 20 and 10. You know, I think he's a great asset to have on the bench, coming off the bench. He'll probably, because he still got some great value, he'll probably get moved too. But it's unfortunate, bro.

23:47Shannon Sharpe:They're probably going to start all the way from scratch, Joe. Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. They're going to strip it down to the foundation and try to build this thing back up. Hey, Uncle Joe, they're going to do the same thing the Dolphins doing. You hear me?

24:00Chad Johnson:What do you mean? Strip it down. Strip it down to the bottom. I can tell you. I told you where Giannis was going, right? So we know what that destination is going to be. You think he's still going to Miami? Joe, I done sat in a meeting. Joe, I'm telling you. Now, when you saw the reports about it happening, and you saw the reports, where there's smoke, there's fire. That's how I be telling y 'all. I know what I be talking about. it just wasn't able to happen. But when the offseason come and it happened, like, man, O.T., you was right. You know, my eyes and my ears to everything sports-related in Florida now.

24:38Chad Johnson:So what's going to happen with Ja? Hey, you know what? Hey, what's wrong with Young Bull? It's time to get out of Memphis. Hey, what's wrong with Young Bull over there in Memphis? They even gave up everything. everything they had around them that was worth something

24:55Shannon Sharpe:they traded Desmond Bain they traded John they got 4 firsts for Desmond Bain I think they got 2 or 3 ones

25:04Chad Johnson:for Triple J you gave up Booker you gave up all your muscles what you looking for now

25:12Shannon Sharpe:now I just don't know John's going to have to do things differently what you mean by that huh? How he conducts himself off the court. So you mean, you think he's still gonna be there? It doesn't matter where he goes, he's still gonna have to conduct himself differently than what he did in Memphis. Oh yeah, yeah, most definitely, most definitely. But I think conducting himself and when it comes to going to the right environment, you know, going over to that prison, that prison over there in Miami, which is like playing for beer Belichick. You hear me? in basketball terms the closest thing to the Patriots and Bill Belichick the Patriot way is the Miami Heat they can conduct themselves

25:58Chad Johnson:Ocho if you got some discipline it won't even affect you bro it's just a way of life you know what I mean they expect you to work hard but if you a disciplined guy who don't mind doing a little work you know what I mean it ain't gonna affect you trust me I've been in the system bro it ain't going to affect you but if work ain't first and foremost in your life partner then yeah it's going to be a problem we're going to get him right hey Joe he need to get his NBA career back on track I hope so you got to man the man got the hottest shoe he got one of the hottest shoes out and you can't and you not even playing

26:40Shannon Sharpe:and just imagine just imagine Joe what he could be

26:46Chad Johnson:with that engine that is nike behind you yeah oh oh oh they they had him projected right now as we speak he's supposed to be top three point guard in the league right now if not the best he that's what he's supposed to be right now yeah see i he he needed he needed to hang around somebody like me, Joe. Why is that? Listen, I'm only talking about on the point of the discipline and always want to work, Joe. Okay. Okay. I know I play around and make jokes a lot. I'm talking about serious. Yeah. When it comes to that discipline stuff and locking in on doing something,

27:25Shannon Sharpe:I don't play like that, Joe.

27:27Chad Johnson:Yeah, I got you. I got you.

27:29Shannon Sharpe:Think about what he was before he started doing all these shenanigans. He's an all-star, all-NBA. Hey, a sight to see. You hear me?

27:41Chad Johnson:Hey, that's right. Hunter Joe, he was excited to see. I don't even watch basketball, but there are certain individuals that will force me to turn the game on because it's something to see. It's exciting because you don't know what's going to happen. A player like Ja is unpredictable in a game. I'm not talking about the antics. I'm talking about what he do on that goddamn court.

28:02Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Ant-Man is another one. Ant-Man off the court started impacting the way. Yeah, it gets in the way. Ant-Man is another one. Ain't no telling what the hell he going to do on the court.

28:11Chad Johnson:Hey, but that's why when these guys first come into the league, you always see these great flashes because, one, like we all know because we all been there our first time playing in the pros, you so damn nervous and scared that you like, I'm going to do whatever I got to do to be able to shine out here. Like, I'm going to work my butt off. You know what I mean? Like, your work ethic is through the roof when you first get to the league, bro. But once you figure the system out, Arke Ocho, and you know how to manipulate it a little bit, stop working as hard, you know what I mean? Because things then became a little easy.

28:48Chad Johnson:Your confidence through the roof, and you know can't nobody stay in front of you. I think the work tends to suffer a little bit because you're starting to get, you're getting all these sponsors from all these different people, and you got all these obligations that you got to meet. But you got to always keep the work in the forefront and don't forget how you got there. Keep the main thing the main thing. Man, you can never forget how you got there, bro. To be able to sustain and stick around for a long time, you can never forget how you got there. You remember as a kid, hell, I ain't going to lie, when I was 7, 8 years old, I was wishing I could play in the NBA.

29:21Chad Johnson:So from that point on until I was 20 years old when I got drafted, that's how long I had been working.

29:28Shannon Sharpe:Ojo, I tell guys all the time, I say, bro, you a football player. No, I'm with this. okay when they take football to play take football away when last time you heard from a mojo hey that's a good no but you say no no no no no that's not what you said you said you was this this and this and this now football's gone i ain't seen nothing yeah keep the main thing the main thing yes use football to do all these other things there will come a time that the the the you'll leave the game or the game will leave you. But then you can act a fool. Do whatever you want to do. But don't lose sight of who and what you are.

30:07Shannon Sharpe:You are a football player. Don't you let these people get it. Don't you listen to the street committee on this social media tell you that you something else. When they take that away, when they take basketball away, when they take football away, what they doing?

30:22Chad Johnson:On to the Knicks. Bro,

30:25Shannon Sharpe:everything is right there for you. Right there for you. And look, at some point in time, look, we got to hold the individual responsible. Because I had a great conversation. I had Michael Vick. I had Michael Vick on the pod. And when he worked at Fox, we talked to him and I was like, Mike, it wasn't nobody around you that could tell you. He's like, oh, everybody that was around me was doing exactly what was I doing.

30:56Chad Johnson:Hello.

30:57Shannon Sharpe:So how are they gonna tell me to stop? And then why would I listen to them?

31:01Chad Johnson:Right.

31:04Shannon Sharpe:So if you don't have a voice of reason in your ear, because here's the thing, Ocho, you know this, Joe, you know this. I'm not gonna be the one, cause I'm not gonna have you stop the bus and ask me to get off because I'm trying to have you do right. I'm gonna let you do wrong, so you keep me on this damn bus.

31:21Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah. That's one of the problems, huh?

31:23Shannon Sharpe:everybody entourage

31:28too many yes men yes there always got to be somebody that got to be the brains if we have an entourage we have a group of people we've been around since yay high whatever now you've made it now you the golden goose you the golden egg you got to protect somebody got to be the brains if the golden goose ain't going to have the brains somebody else has to be the thinker for them.

31:56Shannon Sharpe:Right. And they'll be thinking, man. So, hey, you got to have somebody or multiple people that tell you what you need to know and not what you want to hear. Because a lot of times people think, you right, John? Man, you be you. You got this far being you. Yeah, I can be me. Why would you even want to? You worked your entire life to get your family out of that, getting out of the projects or getting out of that single family. And there's nothing wrong with that. But ain't nobody says, you know what? I want to be a professional athlete and still stay in the environment and the circumstances that I grew up in.

32:34Shannon Sharpe:Nobody says that. So don't get me wrong because I know y 'all going to flip it. Man, I'll make it seem like there's something wrong with the projects. I'm not saying that. But you work your ass off for a reason to leave those situations only to have the same mentality that you had when you was in that situation.

32:53Chad Johnson:Yeah.

32:53Shannon Sharpe:Shouldn't you want to change? Yeah, I would hope so. If you think about it, guys, you make it out of there, what do you do? You get you a nice car, you get you a nice – you don't drive that same type of car that you had when you was growing up.

33:04Chad Johnson:Hello.

33:06Shannon Sharpe:Hubcaps missing. Mismatched tires.

33:09Chad Johnson:Yeah.

33:12Shannon Sharpe:You don't. I just – I think it's phenomenal. And I had an opportunity to get y 'all know, look, I saw him play several times. I've been to a lot of Laker Memphis games. I think we all know that.

33:27Chad Johnson:Yeah.

33:27Shannon Sharpe:He's phenomenal.

33:28Chad Johnson:Yeah.

33:28Shannon Sharpe:He's phenomenal. Moto Casino. America's social casino. Welcome to Moto Casino, where the excitement never ends. 36:46Shannon Sharpe:He is, bro. He just needs some leadership, some guidance to say, bro, enough is enough. You done had your three-year run where you did everything that you wanted to do. Lock in. Lock in. Bring it on home now. Come on home.

37:04Chad Johnson:I think, boy, I think he'll thrive. I ain't going to lie to y 'all. I think he'll thrive in that Miami situation. Come on, Joe. Talk to me, Joe. I'm saying because, you know, one thing about Pat Riley, he going to have a real sit-down, a one-on-one with him. You know what I mean? He do with everybody. Hell, he did with me. And it's going to be something in that meeting, bro, that you're going to be able to take and run with, and all you got to do is apply. If you apply, I promise you, the sky will be the limit for this kid again, bro. Then, I don't know, I just feel like Memphis is ready to move on.

37:37Chad Johnson:I think Ja is ready to move on. They are.

37:38Shannon Sharpe:They're moving on, Joe.

37:39Chad Johnson:And to get in a new –

37:40Shannon Sharpe:They're cleaning the house.

37:40Chad Johnson:And to get in a new environment, you know, it'll help in more ways than one. I want to see him make sale on Uncle Ocho. I want to see Ja back out there throwing grenades, covering his ears. I'm here for all that, man. I like the cool stuff. You know what I mean? I also like to see the guys who put in the work, though. You know, I love me a hardworking cat, a dude who don't mind being there first and being there last. You know, getting them shots up before practice, after practice. He in the weight room. And that's why I say in Miami, bro, I've never seen an environment like that. I'm talking about to where after the game, the whole team in the weight room, we all in there lifting weights.

38:20Chad Johnson:I'm talking about D-Wade, UD, it don't matter. Everybody in there. And that's the type of environment you want to be around. You got to be. Them dudes weren't rushing up out of that Uncle Ocho to go to no club. I never went to the club when I played for the Heat. Man, we worked so much, boy, I couldn't wait to go home and lay down. Man. Hey, man. Joe, that's the thing.

38:41Shannon Sharpe:The club gonna be there. The club gonna be there. The club will be there when you out in the league too. And they gonna treat you different when you ain't that guy. Hey, hey, hey, Uncle Joe, and one thing about that club in Miami, hey Joe, you know, people don't show up till two, three in the morning.

38:57Chad Johnson:I know, hey, hey, and they love the Miami Heat, Uncle Ocho. Yes. They love them Heat players, boy.

39:03Shannon Sharpe:That's all you got there, and that's the thing. Just, hey, when your best player, is your hardest worker. That's why you get a Kevin Durant. You get a Kobe. You get a Jordan. You get a Steph Curry. You get a LeBron. That's what you get. You get Shea. That's what you get. And then when you see these guys that maybe not as talented and they work their asses off, now you get a Tyrese Maxey. Now you get an Austin Reeves. That's what you get. You see guys like, well, damn, where'd he come from?

39:38Chad Johnson:Yeah.

39:39Shannon Sharpe:He came for working his ass off.

39:41Chad Johnson:That's it. Head down.

39:44Shannon Sharpe:It's not that complicated. It's not. But you know the ones that work.

39:50Chad Johnson:It ain't complicated. It ain't complicated. But y 'all know it's a lot of sacrifices that got to come with it. Meaning, listen, meaning if you ain't got people around you who think like you, meaning like if you just got cats around you and they can't wait till 9, 10 o 'clock come to ask you if we going to the club or not, man, please. You gotta have some dudes who around you who wanna work, who gonna hold you accountable and keep you in check, bro. You gotta have that. You know you gotta have that.

40:21Shannon Sharpe:Look, and people go jump in the comments, man, everybody worked hard on their job for 40 years. A lot of people work hard, work at their job and have no aspirations of moving up. I'm just here to collect this check. I'm good.

40:35Chad Johnson:Right.

40:36Shannon Sharpe:I'm talking about a guy. Greatness is boring. Go sit down and talk to any of the greats. I'm talking about an athlete's term because I've met Jeff Bezos and have a conversation, but we did not talk business. He wanted to talk sports, so we talked sports. Most of the time when those type of people come around, they don't want to talk about what they do. They want to talk about what you do. And how did you do what you did? And what was it like? What was Elway like? What was TD like? What was Brady like? What Peyton Manning? That's what they want to talk about. But when you talk about greatness, I wish – listen to him talk.

41:11Shannon Sharpe:Listen to Brady when he talk about greatness and the sacrifice that he makes and the monotony of it. Look at Serena when she talk about greatness and the sacrifice and the monotony and Tiger. And I know Tiger's going through what he's going through, but it's hard to deny nobody had a peak like he had.

41:27Chad Johnson:No, sir.

41:28Shannon Sharpe:Look at LeBron. Look at Steph. Look at all the great. It is very monotonous because ain't nothing entertaining. ain't nothing sexy about lifting iron and running yourself into exhaustion and getting up, like Joe said, 1 ,000, 1 ,500 shots a day. Ain't nothing sexy about that. Guess what? You do it over and over and over. And people tell me, man, you eat the same thing. That's boring. Shit. Some people do things over – insanity, Ocho, is doing something over and over and hoping for a different result. I did the same thing over and over hoping for the same result to be successful every time I stepped on the damn field.

42:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.

42:05Chad Johnson:Yeah.

42:07Shannon Sharpe:There's a sacrifice to be great. The greater the accomplishment, the greater the sacrifice must be to meet said accomplishment. There is no other way around it.

42:18Chad Johnson:It ain't, bro.

42:20Shannon Sharpe:You can't cut no corners. What do you want to be? Man, I want to be this. Okay, what are you willing to sacrifice to get that? if you're going to put what you want here you got to put what you're willing to sacrifice here because they go hand in hand the greater the accomplishment the greater the sacrifice it's going to cost you some it might cost you a relationship or two it might cost you a friend or two it will might cost you a family member or two

42:52Chad Johnson:yes sir

42:54Shannon Sharpe:but what is it that you want because you got to remember now when you was as a kid growing up who was there who believed in you

43:08Shannon Sharpe:i i talked about this all the time from i was in high school i'm gonna get my my senior book and i can read what they said shannon when you rich and famous don't forget me shannon i know you're gonna make it that's all i talked about yeah All the times that I didn't go to the party, ah, you from who country? You boring. You don't smoke. You don't drink. Okay. You're right, I don't. But I don't know if that's going to help me get into college. And when I got to college, I don't know if smoking and drinking. Now, hey, don't get me wrong now. Hey, George Clinton, why must I chase the cat? You're futuristic.

43:46Shannon Sharpe:You know what I'm saying? You're all getting me. Hey, hey, I did what I did. But homework, practice, working out, studying, I had to get it. I had to get it. Hey, did the teacher give me two weeks to get an assignment in? Oh, I'm getting that thing done in about three, four days. I ain't waiting until the last minute. I was not no last minute type of guy.

44:15Shannon Sharpe:There ain't no way around it, guys. I wish I could tell you. I wish I could tell you there's an easier way to success and to reach that, but there's not. There's not. And you look at these guys and you hear stories. I've never seen Jordan work out. I've never seen any of these guys, but you hear stories. And I guarantee you, their story sounds a lot like what you went through, Ocho, what I went through, Joe, what you went through. It's very similar. You don't get to that level. It's not an accident. My brother tell our people all the time, you know what? It wasn't planned. It wasn't an accident that we both went there.

44:58Shannon Sharpe:But it wasn't planned either. Yeah. But what our grandfather and grandmother instilled in us, the work ethic, the determination, the never quit, the never give up. Man, I had all these offers to go everywhere, a top player in the state of Georgia. here I am prop 48 man this ain't for man later for the year let me kick it with my boys right here nah hell nah somebody going to and I'll never forget my coach David said he said son if you good they'll find you they gonna find me at Savannah State son if you good he said if you as good as I think you are they gonna come see you they gonna come get you that's all I needed That's all I needed Man listen

45:46Chad Johnson:It's been dudes drafted from D3 schools If you good

45:51Shannon Sharpe:You went to Langston You tried to go here Tried to go there One year at Oregon State That's all I needed You know why? Because that's why God planned it See what God planned for you Kicking you out of school Being back Had to go back to Miami Going to Sammo Juco God had all that. So you know what, I'm gonna see y 'all through. I'm gonna test you. He said, I'm gonna test you.

46:21Chad Johnson:Hey, what'd they say, Uncle Ocho? You make plans and God sit there and laugh at you. Oh yeah, every time. Yeah.

46:31Shannon Sharpe:He already knew. He already knew, he already got it. But man, John, you got too much talent, bro. You got too much talent. You too good. And what's Joe, 28?

46:46Chad Johnson:I don't even know if he that. Is he 28?

46:49Shannon Sharpe:I'm going to say 27, 28.

46:52Chad Johnson:I don't think he that old.

46:55Shannon Sharpe:He 26.

46:56Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah. Wayne, hey.

47:02Shannon Sharpe:Joe, the Sixers, big three are back on the block. Joel Embiid, 29 points, six rebounds, two blocks. PG, Paul George, 26 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals. Tyrese Maxey, 26 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds. Joe, if Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, PG-13, if they are healthy, can they make some noise in the East?

47:30Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, they can, Uncle Ocho. Look, look, if Paul George and Joel Embiid going to give you this on a night-to-night basis because this ain't the first game they done played well since they done been back. I think this is their second game playing, but they both putting up great numbers, shooting at a high efficiency rate, and they controlling and affecting the game on more than just scoring. I think their veteran presence mixed in with Maxie and Edgecombe, them young reckless abandoned guards, man, they can beat anybody in the East because still can't nobody guard Embiid. No, hell no. Ain't nobody got no answer for him.

48:06Shannon Sharpe:Not in the East. Well, first of all, ain't nobody the NBA can guard him. East, West, North, South. There's an ABA. The G League. Ain't nobody can guard Joel Embiid. Nobody.

48:19Chad Johnson:He don't even have to be 100%. I think Philadelphia. Because they beat a hot Hornets team tonight in Charlotte. It ain't like Charlotte ain't been no slouch since February. Probably since the 1st of February. They probably got one of the top records in the NBA. Like, they've been playing great basketball. So to go in Charlotte and get a win, it tells me a lot. If Embiid and Paul George can fit in with these guys like this, hey, man, we just got a new team that's entered the chat. Because, you know, we done counted Philly out for so long since Tatum came back for the Celtics. We put them one. You know, K been hurt, so we kind of dropped the pistons.

49:03but hey, this here looks scary, man,

49:06Chad Johnson:because I'm going to tell y 'all something. Tyrese Maxey still ain't letting his foot off the gas. He don't care who out there.

49:10Shannon Sharpe:No, no, he going at everybody.

49:14Chad Johnson:He don't care who out there. He going to get his shots up. He going to be effective. He going to apply pressure. They got a great team. If them dudes stay healthy, I'm talking about they got a chance. They got a chance.
