In short

NBA offseason hot takes and roster moves, centered on LeBron James leaving the Lakers, the Lakers building around Luka Dončić, and other team transactions (Nuggets “LeBron sweepstakes,” Lakers signing Walker Kessler, Spurs signing Tobias Harris, Celtics/Clippers/Raptors moves).

Guest backgrounds

The episode is a sports talk show featuring multiple hosts/speakers (not clearly identified by name in the transcript). One recurring voice is “Uncle Joe” (basketball analyst-style commentary). “Ocho” is another recurring speaker. No formal guest list is provided beyond these hosts.

Key claims

LeBron’s departure is framed as the Lakers not wanting to pay/structure around him and “backdooring” Anthony Davis; Rich Paul’s leverage is discussed. The Lakers’ defense is criticized as the main problem for a championship run with Luka and Austin Reaves. Walker Kessler is praised as a better defender than Brook Lopez? (actually compared to Deandre Ayton). LeBron’s likely destinations are argued as Miami or Cleveland, with Denver as a possible fit.

Notable examples

Lakers acquiring Walker Kessler from Utah (contract details cited), signing Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, and Sandro Mamukelashvili; Nuggets entering LeBron sweepstakes (Denver Post claim); Spurs landing Tobias Harris; Celtics “steal” Mitchell Robinson; Clippers trade Kawhi to Raptors.

0:00Chad Johnson:I turned off news altogether. I hate to say it, but I don't trust much of anything. It's the rage bait. It feels like it's trying to divide people. We got clear facts. Maybe we can calm down a little.

0:20Shannon Sharpe:NBC News brings you clear reporting. Let's meet at the facts. Let's move forward from there. NBC News. Reporting for America. I'm Jake Brennan, and on my podcast, Disgraceland, I tell the stories behind music's biggest names, like how the story of the Foo Fighters isn't just about music. It's about grief, shock, and the moment everything changed. Imagine that. You're in the biggest band on the planet, as Dave Grohl was in 1994 in Nirvana. And the phone rings. And you learn that your singer, your friend, the reluctant voice of a generation, Kurt Cobain, is dead. Listen to Disgraceland on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

1:05It just came out. Jeremy, what did you just do? You just set yourself up for failure. I've never heard you tell this story. I've never told this story. This must have been tucked deep, deep in the Jeremy Lin file. My name is MC Jin. I'm excited to tell you about Laugh But Not Lease. I'll be chatting with guests from all walks of life about the power of humor when it comes to facing difficult times. These will be conversations that remind us all life is hard. Laugh harder. 1:38Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. I'm Akilah Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.

1:50Chad Johnson:As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslaved people. 2:38Shannon Sharpe:LeBron James, his era with the Lakers, finito.

2:43Chad Johnson:Man.

2:44Shannon Sharpe:After considering his option this offseason, LeBron James decided to lead the franchise in favor of a new beginning. While LeBron could have received a nice contract from the Lakers, his free agency won't be solely based on finances. LeBron is seeking complete happiness with his next contract per Rich Paul. Rich added that he was 80 % sure LeBron will return to the Lakers. But upon checking in with LeBron on multiple occasions over the next few weeks, Rich said that number began to slip. Once LeBron decided to leave the Lakers, Rich informed the team of that decision. LeBron has instructed Rich Paul to gauge league-wide interest and come back with options before making his free agency decision.

3:26Shannon Sharpe:Joe, where does LeBron end up, and are you surprised? So let's start with this first. Are you surprised LeBron is leaving the Lakers? And then you could add, where do you think he'll end up?

3:39Chad Johnson:I am not surprised that LeBron is leaving the Lakers. I kind of seen this to some degree because, you know, when they were soft pedaling and getting this deal done. Then you hear all these different scenarios of different teams, guys he could team up with. I figure it was Rich Paul doing, meaning just trying to gain some leverage. But then I started to see some of these moves that the Lakers have made. Come on, bro. They was never trying to bring Brian back. They don't want to be stuck. They didn't want to be stuck in the past, the next two, three years, at his begging plea on Ocho. I'm just going to keep it real.

4:13Chad Johnson:but he's still such a high value to where wherever he goes right now because there is some teams there's a few teams i ain't gonna lie i like him go to that i think he can turn the landscape of the game still at his at his big age bro i think it's a few teams he could go to right now okay ocho to where if he joined a team you would probably make them the favorite what you think it'll show you listen it's listen uncle joe we knew i like i like the way they said uh well lebron's chances of going back to la decrease lebron knew la didn't want him back let's let's start there thank you you know you know internally they didn't want you back obviously having to defer you would be in the third option you don't really like that boom now let's go to places you can play at you say it's not a financial decision that's also a lie money always comes into play when it comes to playing in your 23rd season at 42 years old money is very important or you would you be playing for free where's the best place what team could pay you the most down here goddamn miami huh what do you have down here miami a relationship with who the organization one that you've already played for we got bam right We got Giannis.

5:31It is. Free agency right now. We need to get some shooters. We got Tim Hardaway Jr. in. Now, we're not finished continuing to construct our team, but add LeBron. This is the best option and best place for you to be in the East. You don't want to be in the West. We hear all this conversation and all these talks about him playing in Golden State with Steph and Draymond. Listen, y 'all want to play together? In the offseason, y 'all go play at the goddamn Summit in New York. Okay, you can have fun doing that. What you don't want to do is you don't want to go to Golden State and talk about, oh, this is going to be my last run and have to deal with the Spurs, have to deal with the Nuggets, and have to deal with the goddamn Thunder.

6:09That's not what you want at 42 years old. You want to come on down here to the East, huh? Even though they improved, but it's the easiest route for a team that can contend, that you can come to with Bam, Giannis, and Team Hardaway Jr. And what are the assets we build and get in this offseason during free agency? that just makes the most sense and you want to be happy how could you not be happy in Miami no taxes South Beach what we talking about Cuban food soul food you familiar with everything I'm sure you might have some businesses out here I'm out here hey Joe we got tootsies hey

6:51Chad Johnson:he trying to make my ex sound like she just so bad I just need to go back Man, I've already been there, man. What are you talking about? Sometimes you got to spin a block, Joe. You ain't never spin a block back in the day. I done been there and done that. I'm cool. I don't want to spin a block. I'm cool. I'm cool. I got this new thing. I got this other thing. I'm going to find it. Let me tell you something. Hey.

7:11Shannon Sharpe:Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey, but let me tell you something. What? Hey, hey. Hey, Uncle Joe. After my brand new, right out the factory. Hey, but you know what? You know what? You don't want to deal with that new headache. So you want to go back to that old thing Because you know everything about them You're comfortable there That new stuff, that ain't nothing but representation But the old one gave me a stomach ache

7:34Chad Johnson:Wait, the old thing what? The old one gave me a headache All you need is get you some Pepto-Bismol You'll be alright Nah, nah, nah, nah See, you done forgot How you and that old thing broke up It's just a little distance been between us So that's going to come back up Y 'all still going to have them problems, partner Well, let me tell you some you go to the new thing and you think she's sweet the land do left up because of the same problems So you go you and the hunt you and the honey play thing is shit sweet. It ain't sweet because she has somebody And he she got left. So it's gonna be the same thing.

8:10Shannon Sharpe:The cycle continues to repeat itself. Yeah It is that's normally what happened because guess what? The first thing she gonna say you ought to go to that you ought to go to that be you with you messed that up i can't go back to her let's get up

8:31Shannon Sharpe:hey hey that was that could have been an option if you didn't mess it up yeah if you kept your mouth shut i could have did hey that's a good one that's a good one that's a good one but you messed that up so that's over that's finito second of all in all seriousness guys I told y 'all guys I'm working on some material right now but anyway this was a situation I believe I don't have anything don't have any intimate knowledge the Lakers made LeBron an offer they knew he would refuse hello they knew he would refuse it also I believe early on they did everything they possibly could to appease LeBron.

9:21Shannon Sharpe:They got him what he wanted. I do believe LeBron played a role in them getting Russell Westbrook. I don't believe that was solely the organization. They got Camelo, Carmelo, they brought a lot of guys in. And I think LeBron played a role in that. But this is what I do know. Human nature says if I ever get in a position and I can put the advantage in my favor. And that's what the Lakers did when they got Luka. Immediately, that was Luka's team. All of a sudden, LeBron's voice didn't carry the same weight in that organization. Luka, what do you want? Luka, you started hearing, Luka said he wants Austin Reed over any other free agency.

10:10Shannon Sharpe:Luka wants an active big. Luka won an active shoot. It didn't mention LeBron.

10:16Chad Johnson:Yeah.

10:17Shannon Sharpe:Rabona Shelburne was reporting that they had a meeting with Craig's with Luka and his representative on mail rolls. LeBron wasn't there. They said, look, in 2026, LeBron's$52 million comes off the book. We'll have X amount of dollars to spend in free agency. Why do you think Luka signed that extension?

10:44so go ahead I got a question Uncle Joe I got a question now I know Lakers fans Lakers organization Rob Plinka and anyone else that's in positions of power that's constructing this team that didn't want LeBron to come back the whole point of constructing the team is to contend for a title am I correct did you not see the signs they had today did you did you not see the signs they had today, Joe. Which way are they going? Are they contending or are they going backwards?

11:16Shannon Sharpe:Me personally, I still look. Kessler is a better defender than Aiden. I mean, he's active. He plays hard. I think his uncle I think his uncle Kessler, I think they went to Georgia if I'm not mistaken. I think that was his uncle Eric Kessler, if I'm not mistaken chat y 'all can check that if you want to with that being said your two best players are horrible at defense you look at their signings you tell me other than kessler where the defense is coming from nope because you lost smart you lost smart he was your best defense you're gonna lose Rui. You lost what's the lefty guy? The guy he went to Phoenix.

12:10Chad Johnson:Yeah, Canard.

12:12Shannon Sharpe:Now, they got Quentin Grimes. They got Grimes from Philly. I like Grimes though. They got the shooter from Toronto and they feel they're surrounded by shooters. Hey, hold on. What you going to do in the defensive end? It's been their Achilles heel for how long? We've been having the same conversation over and over and over about them obviously being able to score the ball, but here you can't stop no damn body. So you're still in the same position, even with the new signings. And I don't know, Mr. Kessler, I don't want to be disrespectful. But, I mean, are you a... He's solid. He's solid. We're solid.

12:45Shannon Sharpe:Listen, he's not... Look here. I ain't like, oh my God. Me, I ain't... Oh, boy, we got Alex Kessler. Boy, we got a monster in the middle. I ain't doing that. He a double-double guy. He gets you 10-11 points. He gets you 10-11 rebounds.

13:01Chad Johnson:That's what he is.

13:02Shannon Sharpe:Solid. He can knock down an occasional three. He makes, put it like this here. He is, he look like Jokic compared to Aiden. But Wimpy. It ain't that bad, huh?

13:17Chad Johnson:Compared to Aiden. Ain't Aiden that bad? Hold on, hold on, hold on. Hold on, hold on, hold on. They got, hey listen, they don't have enough Melanated brothers, I give them that. You know what I mean? They don't. They all gone? Yeah, they all gone, but at the same time.

13:32Shannon Sharpe:I think they got Bronny, Vando, and Quentin Grimes.

13:37Chad Johnson:And Quentin Grimes, he beige. So he don't even, you know, yeah, he beige. But they got some depth, though, Uncle Ocho, meaning depth in that center position because now Aiden can come off the damn bench whether he like it or not. He can't, you know. You should be coming off the couch. Huh? You should be coming off the couch. Yeah. So I think there'll be a decent team to watch. I mean, obviously. Oh, they got Collin Sexton too, Joe. Yeah, I like Collin Sexton. Yeah, I saw him signing too. But at the same time, man, it's like, I don't really know what they doing, bro. I think they gonna be competitive, but if we talking about winning a title, hell, to be honest with y 'all, man, ain't gonna be but a couple teams contender for that any damn way.

14:18Hey, but I tell you what, the Lakers starting five look like Gamma Fire Road. Ooh. And everybody got on Sperry's.

14:26Shannon Sharpe:Thank you, thank you, baby. Hey, yo. Oh, the road trip, ain't nothing but khakis and blue blazers. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Ain't nothing but a Shriners convention. No, but in all seriousness, Luka and AR, Luka is going to be Luka. Luka is going to score no matter what. AR is going to be able to get points. But the question is, who can they stop? And we saw this last year, and we saw this in situations. It is very difficult for AR His lateral movement isn't good. Luka is not good at defense. And I'm being nice. Chat, I'm not making – y 'all know this. Y 'all watch – Luka is one of my favorite players.

15:08Shannon Sharpe:And I might catch a Lakers game just to see, I saw Luka in a Lakers uniform. But they're not good defensively. Your two best players can't be that bad defensively and you hope to win a championship. Nah.

15:24Chad Johnson:This is what they're dealing with right now, Ocho.

15:27Shannon Sharpe:Look, he built the team. This is the way Rob Pelinka wanted to build the team. Yeah. This is the way he wanted to build the team. He built the team like he wanted it. He believed. Hopefully, Luka is happy because everything now I'm doing to appease Luka.

15:41Chad Johnson:Yeah.

15:42Shannon Sharpe:Everything I'm doing to appease Luka.

15:46Chad Johnson:Grant his wishes. Because he's the guy that's going to be the bridge to keep this thing going.

15:53Shannon Sharpe:The Lakers have always normally had a transcendent player because they had Baylor and they had Wes. And then when those guys – and Wilt. And then Kareem comes. And then Magic comes. And then Worthy. And then you have a little love there. And then you get Shaq. And then you get Kobe. And then, you know, Kobe runs that. And then you have a love. And then LeBron comes to your team. and do you have that? And now we got Luca. So they've done a great job of transitioning basically every five to ten years of having a superstar to replace a superstar. The Lakers have done a great job. You go back and look at them, study them.

16:39Shannon Sharpe:They've done a great job of that. And so now everything is for Luke, and it should be. I think LeBron felt that, And Rich and LeBron, and y 'all know how I feel about LeBron. I do believe early they made a lot of concessions for LeBron.

17:02Chad Johnson:Yeah.

17:03Shannon Sharpe:I believe Taylor Horton, I believe one of the reasons why they let, because they gave Taylor Horton the money, they should have gave Caruso.

17:08Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. Brian Valsh there though.

17:12Shannon Sharpe:That's what they did. Yeah. Caruso should have been on there. Now, Horton Tucker is in Turkey or Greece or overseas, somewhere and caruso is playing meaningful basketball on a championship winning you know what also you know what also that means even though bron had the privilege and he was a guy to defer to when when it comes to decision making on who you want to keep around yes your team they ignored what he had to say he had a better understanding than those that are making the calls on one caruso to be there but obviously they want to they want to pick who they want to pick would let you know he didn't have the leverage.

17:48He did probably because of where he was at in his career as well.

17:52Shannon Sharpe:But here's the thing, though. You can't have it both ways. You can't recommend behind the scenes that we sign somebody, and then when we sign them, and then it blows up, it goes all on the general manager. Oh, okay. Wait. You lit the firecracker. Which player? Which player? Russell Westbrook, Taylor Horton Tucker, Carmelo, A lot of these guys, come on, look at the best player. They're going to run it by the best player. Milwaukee did not make any move without running it by Giannis. And then when it didn't work out, he's like, well, you traded Holiday. How else were we going to get Dame? You said you wanted another co-star.

18:38Shannon Sharpe:We had to give up Holiday in order to get Dame. Right. so yeah hey matter of fact hey speaking of basketball right uh yes Giannis and Bam they're gonna be they're gonna be training down here in Miami together obviously in the offseason before they got before they got to go to an instruction environment and what they do with the Miami Heat and uh I'm gonna be out of training with the boy Joe

19:02Chad Johnson:oh you you are what y 'all gonna be doing for the glee boy this work Joe yeah I got yeah I called I called out Giannis I called out Bam and both of them answers. So I'm going to play both of them one-on-one. And I mean, I'm going to have my girl film it. So I'm going to give you boy what they're looking for. You hear me?

19:20Shannon Sharpe:But look. Hey, don't put that on tape. My thing is that they finally. What happened, Joe? What happened, huh? And Ocho? The Lakers for the next seven years don't have a first-round pick. This has got to work. Yeah. It's got to work. They have no assets. They have nothing. that said, okay, we'll give you J. Andre Ayton, Vando, or we'll give you LaRavia, or we'll give you Connect, this guy, and a first-round pick. They don't have any. 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33. They don't have a first-round pick until 2034. This has to work. But, Unk, it's not going to work. I understand you have Luka, right? You have Austin Reeves.

20:11Let's look at the teams that have won the championship in the last three years. Look at Boston. Look what Boston had. Look what the Thunder had. Look at the Knicks. Look what the Knicks had. The Lakers are not constructed like that.

20:27Chad Johnson:Ocho, I'm saying, you're saying it's not going to work. Does that mean they're not going to be a decent playoff team? Joe, they going home in the first round. Who are they going to beat in the West?

20:37Shannon Sharpe:That's probably going to happen.

20:40Chad Johnson:That's probably going to happen, but I'm just saying. I'm saying they're going to win some games. They're just not going to be championship contender. I mean, you weren't at purple and gold. You know what come with it. Exactly.

20:49Shannon Sharpe:Name the superstar that has never won a championship in a Lakers uniform. Wilt did. The only one you can say that didn't win one was Baylor. Elgin Baylor retired, and the next year they won the championship in 72. But then you come along and you got Kareem. and you get magic, and you get worthy, and you get Shaq, and you get Kobe, and you get Powell, and you get Braun, and you get AD. So every superstar other than Baylor, that's what George Michael started it off in Minnesota. He won five. So every superstar other than Baylor won a championship. Luka has to win a championship. It ain't happening.

21:28Shannon Sharpe:I give, listen, listen. They have a three. Some history in that Lakers uniform. Hey, Joe, Uncle Joe, I've been right with my NBA predictions for the past three years, right? And I'm telling you right now, based on what I see, look at the landscape of the Lakers right now. But one, look at the starting five. The starting best starting five ain't beating no goddamn body. We know Luke can get his. We know what Austin Reeves can do. Outside of that, you look at that starting five and tell me what other starting five that coming out the West that they can beat in a seven-game series. I ain't talking about regular season.

21:57Regular season don't matter. I don't care about the numbers you're putting up then. I don't care about who you're going to beat when it matters most. Who is that starting five going to beat, Joe?

22:06Shannon Sharpe:The Thunder? The Spurs? They are. One thing we can't agree on, Joe, they slow as hell.

22:12Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. We know they challenge defensively. That's why guys like AR and Luka, their offense has to be their defense, meaning they're going to have to be tops in scoring just to be competitive. They got to be.

22:28Shannon Sharpe:Okay, Ocho, hell, Luka's going to have to average 30. Well, Luka's going to average 30. But AR is going to need to average around 25, 26. Yeah. Yeah. I agree.

22:38Chad Johnson:For them to be able to compete in that Western Conference, they're going to have to be amazing. Hey, I'm ready.

22:47Shannon Sharpe:They are. I'm ready now. I'm ready. And look, the thing is that I hope, look, just because LeBron isn't there, I like Luka. I've been a Luka fan. Chad, y 'all remember me on Undisputed? Me and Skip used to get into it all the time about Luka. I like Noah. No, he can't play no defense, but he's going to light your ass up on offense, though. Yeah.

23:07Chad Johnson:We've seen him.

23:07Shannon Sharpe:I like Luka. I just think it's going to be hard for them to win a championship when your two best players are that defensively challenged. That's all I'm saying. Where do you think LeBron end up, Joe? Ocho, I'm going to throw it out to you, Ocho, or Joe first, and I'm going to let you have it, Ocho.

23:23Chad Johnson:Where do I think LeBron is going to end up? The Warriors thing, obviously, I don't think that's going to work. I do. I think he's going back to he's going back to an X. It's going to be Cleveland or Miami. It's going to be one of them. Probably, if I'm him, I can hold your real talk. That Miami thing just look too sexy. It's hard to say. I ain't going to lie to you. I ain't going to lie to you. Playing with Bam and Giannis and him just being able to facilitate. See, he can have a lot of the ball handling duties versus if he go to Cleveland, hey, you got Donovan and James Harden. Yeah. You know what I mean?

24:04Chad Johnson:Yeah, he'll still get the handle and playmate. But playing in Miami, hell, he'll probably be the damn point guard.

24:11Shannon Sharpe:But they're saying that – I don't know if you saw this report that a couple of weeks ago Dan Gilbert and LeBron had a secret meeting. Don't worry about that. It won – hey, Joe, it was a secret, but it won Victoria. Don't worry about that. Joe just explained to you why I'm telling you LeBron is coming here Joe just broke it down in depth a little better than I can huh he did he went the exit nose route I didn't want to go to exit nose route like you know I'm telling you what my sources told me huh I'm not I'm not I'm not shams you know I'm not wind horse but I know my stuff and I ain't been wrong yet so when LeBron does come I want both I want I want you to say you know what Osho you was right I can't believe it you've been right all year long when it comes to nba huh look i'm picking miami because i'm just

25:03Chad Johnson:really trying to jinx it on the low but now when you now but when you really think about it ocho now for real when you think about it uh i can see him going to miami real talk because he'll get the handle the rock he is him and yannis for real as opposed to in cleveland even though james donovan

25:22Shannon Sharpe:if he can play off the ball. I don't like the Donovan James Harden either. I know. Now, if you're going to let James Harden go, but that don't make any sense considering what you gave up because you gave up Garland.

25:32Chad Johnson:Yeah, you ain't let –

25:34Shannon Sharpe:And a pick, I think. Yeah. So that doesn't make sense to me. And look, Miami seems like the most logical choice. But hey, the worst thing is that you follow LeBron over his 23, now about to be 24-year career. LeBron gonna do whatever LeBron wanna do whatever the criticism is it is he said y 'all gonna criticize me one way or another so if you notice what his statement said did you read his statement what did he say Joe he said hopefully I made a few of you proud

26:10Chad Johnson:yeah

26:12Shannon Sharpe:that's not an accident name the time you've seen someone that's leaving somewhere normally I hope I made you cry Bronco country or this or that whatever Raider Nation nobody says F-E-W

26:38Shannon Sharpe:anytime I didn't go to New England I hope you don't think you're going to make them forget Gronk you're never going to be Gronk in their eyes Kansas City was lucky. Kansas City, they got the greatest tight end and a top five tight end in Gonzo. And I think Kelsey. Where you going? Same thing with the Chargers. They had Big K, Winslow Sr., and they had Tone. Man, listen.

27:11Chad Johnson:When you talk about from a defensive standpoint, I don't know, man. The Miami move makes sense to me. Hey, Joe. It makes the most...

27:23Shannon Sharpe:They re-signed Wiggins, but let me ask you a question. Hold on. If they signed Wiggins to that contract, they really can't get rid of Wiggins until after the New Year, right, Joe? Why they got to get rid of Wiggins? We just signed Tim Hardaway Jr. too. You'll keep Wiggins? Yeah. Yeah, we good, huh? We good? Hey, defense good. We got we got two shooters. Huh? We got our point guard. Huh? Hey LeBron I know you're gonna see this. I ain't mean to spit it. I mean to spit the beans But come on down here twin. I'm waiting on you. Huh? Hey, we go ahead we go ahead lunch at a poppy steak stk. Huh? Carbone.

28:01Huh? What you want to do? We that's what we go to Tuesdays. We're going through the back way

28:06Shannon Sharpe:I'll let your boy the mere fact that the LeBron even after Dan Gilbert said what he said publicly even what he put out and he still went back I think he can forgive Pat Ryder for taking them cookies in the trash I'm glad you're a believer I'm glad I can make you a believer I'm glad you listen to me you know what you my dog because you know your ball knowledge is on point tonight you hear me I'm Jake Brennan and on my podcast Disgraceland I tell the stories behind music's biggest names, the moments that shaped them, haunted them, and changed music history forever. 29:51Chad Johnson:To get to school, I had to go down Robert E. Lee Boulevard. To get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. 33:44Chad Johnson:Let's go.

33:44Shannon Sharpe:Uh-oh, uh-oh. According to the Denver Post, the Denver Nuggets has entered their name into the LeBron James Sweet States. They in the chat? LeBron is close friends with the Nuggets team president and governor, Josh Kroenke. The two reportedly vacationed together in the summer of 2016 after Bron led the Cavaliers to a title, and Kroenke even gifted Bron a retro Nuggets jersey in 2018 as part of a summertime attempt to land him in free agency. Sean's report, LeBron is willing to accept a minimum contract to play for a contender and doesn't intend to make it financially driven this time around. Joe, go James, Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray.

34:30Chad Johnson:Hey, that sounds good, man. Hey, I'm not going to lie to you. Damn, Joe. Listen, listen, Ocho, damn. Damn, it's the few situations that really, really sound good for Bron. I ain't going to lie to you. And him being in Denver is one. The only thing, man, that Western Conference, bro, when you can go to the East and it can be a lot simpler. That's all I'm saying, huh? That's why he's not going to the West. That's why the Golden State and the Denver, that don't make no sense. LeBron don't got time to deal with the Thunder. He don't want to deal with the Nuggets, huh? He don't want to deal with the Spurs.

35:06Man, I'm 42. I'm going to year 24, 23, whatever it is. I got a great beard. I need the easiest route. I need the easiest route on a team that I know can contend. That I know that can contend. And who is that? Right down here in South Beach at the Casella Center. What are we talking about? And Clay Thompson. I know you saw my goddamn tweet. Shit, bring your ass down here too. I don't care what people think about you. I know you can shoot. And think about the space. And think about the space you're going to have with Braun and Giannis and goddamn Bam. What? Come on, man.

35:48Shannon Sharpe:Joe, Ocho, I can win a lot of battles if you give me the right equipment.

35:55Chad Johnson:Yeah.

35:56Shannon Sharpe:That's what she said.

36:03Chad Johnson:Where you want to see him go? Real talk. Don't mess up the show tonight. Where do you want to see him go, Unc?

36:10Shannon Sharpe:You know, hey, you know, hey. The old Denver will be bad. Come on, man.

36:16Chad Johnson:You thinking about Broncos and all this. Come on, be real. Bronco country, baby.

36:22Shannon Sharpe:You know, man, because this might be his last year, I don't give a damn where he go. I'm going. I'm going to see him. I believe this might be his last year. The only thing I hope, hey, I didn't get one of those jerseys, the Lakers jerseys, one of them down specialty patches. Patches, you know what I'm saying, 23rd season or most this or most that. But I don't give a damn where you go. I'm going.

36:45Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah.

36:46Shannon Sharpe:I'm saving my money now. I'm saving my money now. I'm putting down – I'm saving$500 a week until basketball season rolls around.

36:58Chad Johnson:Hey, listen. He got some nice moves. Hey, look, the beauty in this is that at 41 years old, bro, you still get a chance to pick and choose where it is that you want to play and display your talents. That's rare. At this point, who wants you here?

37:20Shannon Sharpe:You know what I mean? He probably could go somewhere, Joe, and get$30 million,$40 million with no chance of winning, but he'd be miserable. Just to have him on the team? LeBron James hadn't really been in a situation maybe a handful of times that he really didn't have a realistic chance of making playoffs or contending for a title. Yeah. To go somewhere at 42, Joe, oh, yeah, I'm making$30 million. I'm making$40 million. No, hell no. I got to win. I got to have a chance of winning. Even if I'm fooling my damn self, I got to have a chance of winning.

37:57Chad Johnson:Hey, think about this. Even think about him joining Philly. What about if Bron joined Philly on there, Ocho? Come on, man. Come on, man. I'm just throwing it out there, Ocho. I'm just saying.

38:11Shannon Sharpe:Look, all things being equal, the West Coast would be the best for me, or even if not the West, it's the mountain. I mean, I'm going to have to be on that side of town to go to Miami or Cleveland.

38:25Shannon Sharpe:And you know, Bronco, man, you know, the tickets are already going to be high as the Rams. Let me ask you something. So whoever. Hey, Joe, Uncle Joe. What's up? Is the number six available in Miami?

38:37Chad Johnson:He probably going to go with something else. That was the last chapter. He go with a whole nother number. So 23. Nah, he might.

38:44Shannon Sharpe:Hey, he might. He's retired. He might go. He might. Because guess what? He was six and he might bring 23. because guess what ain't nobody got that 23 heat jersey they retired 23 for mj though oh that's right that's right pat you're wrong for that how you gonna talk about the jersey what number what

39:01Chad Johnson:number would he go to you think man this would be i ain't never seen him in anything but but but 23 and six but y 'all know look look look this would be a different this would be another beginning for him bro maybe even an ending to some degree i could see him switching up his number what number did he wear what number did he wear in high school okay what number did he i'm talking

39:21Shannon Sharpe:about when he played football hell you you know what he i'm trying to think what about his number what what was his number at uh at the on the us team like not quick was it nine

39:34Chad Johnson:i say no i won nine that was jordan i could see him being whatever number was when he played

39:39Shannon Sharpe:football he might do that he ain't getting no he ain't getting no no he was he was a tight end what was the number what was the number six

39:57Chad Johnson:now he gonna go he gonna go a whole new number bro

40:02Shannon Sharpe:hey it'd be the number one selling jersey it'd be the number one selling jersey

40:05Chad Johnson:there you go easy you know I'm gonna ask him tomorrow though I'm gonna ask him tomorrow you gonna see him tomorrow I'm gonna text you

40:13Shannon Sharpe:I'm gonna call Rich Paul gotta come on who rich paul got rich gotta come on tomorrow yeah man get rich yeah yeah i i can i'm gonna hit him up i'm gonna hit him up i could teach richard thing or two about basketball man get him on here man i'm gonna school him see bingo he was number nine he go he gonna come to the heat and wear nine um so he can't get he can't he i mean d-way three is retired 23 is retired 6 across the lead with Mr. Russell I think that's retired into that

40:53Chad Johnson:No he ain't gonna go 1 Cause 1 I'm telling you he's gonna go 9 I'm telling you watch I'm telling you Hey but hold up though y 'all You don't like the Minnesota Him and Minnesota

41:09Shannon Sharpe:Yeah I like him and that man Why y 'all keep putting him back in the west man Man. He said he want a chance to contend and he want to have fun. He ain't going to have no fun in the West. You want to have fun? You have fun right here in South Beach. That's what you have fun at. You have fun. You know what? Defensively, you ain't got to do much. Just be in the way. We got Bam. We got Giannis. They take care of the heavy load. We got our shooters. Come on, man. Y 'all trying to put the man in the West. The man is 41, 42. You ain't got time to be running after them little kids. I just, hey, all I'm saying is I'm going to see him play.

41:48Shannon Sharpe:I don't give a damn way play. I'm going. Hey, I got to see one game. Young, you can stay with me. You can stay on the West Wing at my place.

41:57Chad Johnson:I think you're going to be, yeah, I think you're going to be in the Eastern Conference, man. I ain't going to lie to y 'all.

42:01Shannon Sharpe:Hey. Nah, you already told me I can't stay with you. Why? Now you good. You told me I wasn't going to be able to shake the covers. Oh, we know you, you're going to be on the West Wing. I ain't going to be able to see or hear that shit. You good? Damn. Yeah. Girl, you know, you know, I'd be, I might make a little noise. You know what I'm saying?

42:27Chad Johnson:Yeah.

42:28Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. We already know. There you go, Jesse. There you go, Joe. See what I'm saying, Joe?

42:33Chad Johnson:Hey, listen, you ain't fooling me. I know what's going on.

42:36Shannon Sharpe:Hey. I mean, see, Joe, that don't make you no bad brother, though. Hey, Joe. Hey, Uncle Bump, stay here. I'm going to have Uncle watch all the kids, man, while I'm gone.

42:46Chad Johnson:Oh, man. That's going to be a move in itself, right?

42:53Shannon Sharpe:Joe, the Lakers got their A-list center for Luka. The Lakers are acquiring Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz for unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033. First-round pick swaps in 28 and 30. Kessler will sign a massive four-year,$130 million deal with the Lakers, which include a player option for the fourth season and a full trade kicker. The Lakers also signed Quentin Grimes, four years,$60 million. Colin Sexton, two years,$19 million. And Sandro, yeah, him, four years,$52 million. Joe, you like what the Lakers are putting around Luka?

43:35Chad Johnson:I like some of the additions on Ken Ocho, but that shit ain't gonna be enough I'm sorry, that ain't gonna be enough not in that western conference, bro it ain't gonna be enough so, you know, I know they invested a lot of money this offseason, obviously, Bron won a part of it but they're in my 100 what you say, 130 million for Kessler?

43:57Shannon Sharpe:4 years, 130 for 60 for Quentin Grimes. Sandro got four years, 52. Collin Sexton got two years, 19.

44:06Chad Johnson:He's going to have to be a bad boy, boy. Bring him over there for 130 to play with Luca. Yeah, I know he'll be. He's going to kind of clog the paint. He can shoot the three. Defensively is really why you got him. That's where he's going to help because he's much better.

44:20Shannon Sharpe:He's much better than Aiton.

44:23Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So I definitely think they, you know, obviously they knew they was in need of a center. So, you know, we'll have to see what the Lakers can come up with, bro. We'll see how this team mesh together, you know, with some of these pieces. But it's just going to be hard to look out there now and you don't see Brown running down the court. You know what I mean? It's going to take some adjusting.

44:45Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I'm kind of going to miss going to the Lakers. I'm going to go. I got to go see Luka play at least once. I got to see Luka in the Lakers uniform.

44:54Chad Johnson:Yeah, Luka got to come with his hard hat this year, boy.

44:58Shannon Sharpe:But he's never felt this kind of expectations. I know, and Dallas is one thing. And I know he got to the NBA Finals and phenomenal. And they didn't win. I think they lost, what, 4-1. But the different level of expectations when you play for the purple and gold. And I don't know. Look, he should be just fine because he's one of the great players that's currently playing and one of the best players in NBA history. But it's championship of us. Where are you? There is no, I'll tell you what. It ain't no man. He led the league and score and he did this. He did that. It's all about championships. He's got to get at least one.

45:39Shannon Sharpe:Multiple would be nice. Laker nation would love for him to get multiple, but he has to get at least one. Joe. Oh, this is real life. The Lakers are playing in the West. This team isn't constructed or built to win a championship in the next one, two three or four years it's just not reality this ain't 2k now if you're playing nba 2k and you're really good with the sticks probably but realistically speaking based on the way they're built there are only so many moves you can make because of the money you got tied up in the players you're playing now you're paying now i mean i'm sure people in the chat i mean if you understand and understand the game and the landscape of the way things look right now the next three or four years you kind of stuck with what you got hey oh jo joe of that four years 130 million dollars walker kessel will take home 62.2 million dollars why 13.3 state tax oh yeah california okay 36 56%.

46:49Damn. So when you fit in FICA, Medicaid, and like you said, Joe,

46:57Shannon Sharpe:they put a portion of that in escrow, right? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. There it is. There it is.

47:08Chad Johnson:Hey, look, I think Luka, okay, old Joe, he still going to have to be a juggernaut offensively. Meaning, you know, even if they don't, let's say they do slip to where they're a lower seed playoff team or 7th seed, 8th seed. He still got to be averaging about damn 30.

47:29Shannon Sharpe:No, no, no, no. I mean, in the playoffs, if they're a lower, he's going to need, I mean, for them, he's going to need to average what he averaged. I mean, 33, 30, somewhere between 33 and 35 this year, Joe.

47:39Chad Johnson:Yeah, you're right. Yeah.

47:42Shannon Sharpe:And AR is going to be. and neither one of those guys can get hurt. Yeah. But they have a history of what? Well, Austin Reed, this is the first last year was the first year you've been hurt. Lucas had a history of being injured, yes. All right, see? Hey, chat trying to get on my head. You know, they talking trash to me. I see y 'all. I see everything you're saying. Huh? I know you might be a Laker fan. I don't mean no disrespect. I'm just being honest with you. Most of the time the best person to get the truth from is somebody that doesn't know what he talking about And I don't know nothing about no basketball, but I'll tell you one thing y 'all ain't winning nothing the next three to four years

48:26Shannon Sharpe:And brah pulled a nice move waiting to brownie contract with guaranteed didn't hit y 'all with the yay I ain't coming back. Yeah, but anyway, and today was responded with a crying laughing emoji to a post a and Rob Palenka backdoored him and LeBron. Anthony Davis practically begged Rob Palenka to get him a center alongside him for years. Rob didn't budge. AD got backdoored. Bron low-key got backdoored. And now you want to be a competent GM that do what your championship is gone. You can't make this ish up, LOL.

48:57Chad Johnson:Hey, hold on. Backdold mean, like I tell you on Ocho, man, I ain't training y 'all. We good. And then I end up training. That's backdold. Yeah. Because AD, look, if you go back and look at AD,

49:10Shannon Sharpe:he played his best win. Jarrell McGee, Dwight Howard was on the roster. And if they started it, they were starting conventional, kind of like what Cleveland does, two bigs. Then late the last five minutes of the ball game, six minutes of the ball game, they would kick AD to the five. But they would start the game with AD playing the four.

49:30Chad Johnson:Yeah.

49:31Shannon Sharpe:Because you had Jarrell McGee and you had Dwight Howard. So now he's like, I can be, I'm not drained from battling Joel Embiid. I'm not drained from battling Jokic. I'm not drained. So now the last five minutes after JaVale has worn you down, Dwight Howard has worn you down, now I come in, you're not as active as you need to be because they've been banging on you. Paul, now I get to come in and do what I do. That's how he's looking at it, Joe.

50:03Chad Johnson:Yeah.

50:04Shannon Sharpe:but Rob is saying, hold on bro, we gave you a max contract to play the B. So you want me to give somebody else a max contract, give you a max contract, Bron on the max contract, no.

50:19Chad Johnson:Nah. And I just think Rob and the Lakers, they were ready to be done with the LeBron saga, if you will say. You know, Uncle Ocho, they're gonna turn these keys over to Luka, man. Let's build this team around Luka. Let's see what he can do for us over the next five to seven years. Hopefully we can get us a title. But I just think, you know, hey, man, they just moving on. They moving forward. I don't really blame Rob for that. I don't necessarily – I don't want to say he backdoed him, but obviously AD probably knows something that I don't know. Maybe he told him and Bron something that we all would never know.

50:56Chad Johnson:But his job is to make that team competitive, bro. Yes. And trading AD, I ain't that mad at him here.

51:04Shannon Sharpe:You got Luka. If you don't trade, if you don't trade, guess what? You got to give LeBron whatever you want. If you don't get Luka, LeBron's going to get three more years, two plus an option, at about$55,$60 million a year, Joe.

51:21Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

51:25Shannon Sharpe:It's just the facts.

51:27Chad Johnson:Yeah.

51:28Shannon Sharpe:It's just the facts.

51:28Chad Johnson:I agree with you

51:31Shannon Sharpe:the Lakers were ready to be done and how much here's the thing now we gotta factor this in also how much pool do the Lakers actually have over there Walshers who own the Dodgers he paid 10 billion I'm sure he has some say in this yeah

51:57Shannon Sharpe:let's go Oh. So. They got the wealthiest owner in sports.

52:07Chad Johnson:The man's worth$150 billion. But hold on, hold on, hold on. But the Clippers ain't going to be competitive with him. The damn Raptors going to be competitive with him in the Eastern Conference. If I thought Kawhi could be healthy, I could be competitive with him.

52:22Shannon Sharpe:Well, Toronto think that because they gave him$124. I'm saying the Clippers. if Clippers thought they could be competitive with him they would have did that I'm Jake Brennan and on the Disgraceland podcast I explore the wild lives of rock stars and unbelievable true crime stories from music history these are the stories you haven't heard the kind you'll end up telling someone else like the time Paul McCartney spent in one of the world's most notorious prisons imagine that you're Paul McCartney it's 1980 You're an ex-Beatle, and you're doing time in one of Japan's worst prisons right there alongside Yakuza gangsters and for a ridiculous charge.

53:06Or the bizarre crime Lady Gaga is accused of. Who is the artist Lady Gaga is being accused of doing the unthinkable to after allegedly stealing her music and style to become famous? And what about that time Blondie's Debbie Harry escaped a serial killer? The man who had given her that ride she barely escaped from was Ted Bundy. Listen to Disgraceland on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is. Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place.

53:49As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War.

53:54Shannon Sharpe:To get to school, I had to go down Robert E.

And I don't know how many Oscar nominations they give out. I don't know if it's five, six for best actor. 150 % this kid Jafar Jackson should absolutely positively get nominated for his portrayal as Michael Jackson.

The day we found out that you and the whole crew was at Hit Factory, the mission was to get me to go to the gate, start freestyling, and see if I could get in the studio. I'm rapping, and then suddenly I hear a voice. Hey, open the gate. Let him in. The gate slowly went. 57:40Chad Johnson:They know they're not going to be competitive You know, over the next couple years They're in somewhat of a rebuilding stage The West's too thick, man, we know that They ain't going to be one of the top teams in the West But you look at Toronto What'd they finish? What'd they finish? sixth? Fifth?

57:56Shannon Sharpe:I think they were a fifth seed.

57:58Chad Johnson:Yeah, because they played Cleveland.

57:59Shannon Sharpe:Toronto played Cleveland the first round.

58:01Chad Johnson:Yeah, so I think they're going to be better. I think they'll be better. Hell, Grady Dick wasn't playing. Pause.

58:12Chad Johnson:And Ingram was an all-star, so if you flip-flop him and Ingram, and he plays, he get them great productivity in Toronto, man, they're going to be all right.

58:25Shannon Sharpe:but they got that situation. And I'm surprised he went back because it was Toronto that blew the lid on him. Talk about what Uncle Denny's wanting. Uncle Denny wanted a part of the team. He wanted sponsors, and he want Kawhi, like Kawhi ain't going to show up. He said, well, they're going to want advertising. They're going to want commercial shoots or something. They're like, nah. And come to find out, everything that Toronto wouldn't do,

58:53Chad Johnson:the Clippers would.

58:55Shannon Sharpe:the Clippers did.

58:56Chad Johnson:Hey, hey. And them change.

58:59Shannon Sharpe:So two teams, hold on, they're like, because they went to the Lakers, they're like, we can't do that.

59:05Chad Johnson:Yeah.

59:06Shannon Sharpe:We can't, you know, give you, buy you a condo and buy you this and that. No. But hey, he's going back, clearly, hey, I'll forgive y 'all too. Y 'all gonna give me 62 million a year. I'll forgive you.

59:19Chad Johnson:Yeah, and in them contracts, you better ask for whatever it is you can. ask for because they'll put it in there you know what i mean yeah yeah hey you know your girl fly

59:29Shannon Sharpe:on the flight flight with you and all that stuff yeah yeah now it's time for our final segment of the evening it's time for q hey yeah i'm feeling good tonight bro i might go another hour yeah let's go feeling good tonight what uh usa let's go baby ocho did you dispute them charges on your card when you had to buy everybody drinks at the bar. No, no, no, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't. That was the last week game when USA played Australia. Obviously, I made the bet, Uncle Joe, I was at a bar in, damn, where was I at? I can't remember where I was. I forgot the name of the bar, but I told the whole bar, I was doing something with DraftKings, I told the whole bar, if USA scores, before the half, I'm buying everybody drinks at the half.

1:00:20Damn, goddamn, USA scored. I was hurt. I was hurt but you know it was a good cause it was for a good deed I did what I was supposed to

1:00:33Shannon Sharpe:it's called soccer question for all with all these trades and signing could the Heat possibly get Kyrie Bull fan I hope we sign Jalen Durant

1:00:44Chad Johnson:why can the Heat

1:00:46Shannon Sharpe:why would the Mavericks trade Kyrie

1:00:51Chad Johnson:Well, if you the Mavericks, the only reason why I could see them trading Kyrie is that they just really turning the car over to Cooper flag. You know, Kyrie, hey, y 'all know that boy finna come out here and do his one, too. He ain't finna be trying to defer to no damn body.

1:01:08Shannon Sharpe:You feel what I'm saying?

1:01:09Chad Johnson:So, depending on how you look at it, obviously I think he still got some great basketball left in him, but you saying him going to Miami, huh? no they said uh uh yeah to the heat that's too much they got too much going i'm just saying think about it kyrie at the point brawn at the two they can they can they can you know flip flop

1:01:30Shannon Sharpe:they play off each other real well bam yonison and wiggins boy y 'all trying to turn miami upside down listen i'm just saying i'm just saying i'm i'm gonna tweet kyrie tomorrow so i'm gonna see to see if he answered back this is my only defender we lost yeah you have no defenders that's why the lakers was so bad he's the only defender we lost was smart you ain't have any but

1:01:56Chad Johnson:him the hell joe where's uh uh uh jalen durian going he's going back to detroit how's detroit gonna let that man go they just don't want to pay him the two to 200 something they're gonna let somebody else come in and you know what I mean?

1:02:12Shannon Sharpe:Well, he better, hey, guess what? He better hope somebody come in because guess what? If there's nobody come in, I ain't got, you know what? I ain't got between a year for you now.

1:02:20Chad Johnson:Hey, hold up though, but that's kind of what almost happened to me, Uncle Ojo, when I left Phoenix, you know, because Phoenix could match and any team that offered me a contract, you know, they were telling all these teams, look, whatever y 'all offer me, we gonna match it anyway. You know what I mean? So then, look, I had to get on the phone with my agent, with Robert Salva, who was the owner of the Phoenix Suns, he had just became an owner. And I had to tell him, don't match, man. Look, man, let me go on, bro. You know what I'm saying? You don't really want me around. You got your team over there.

1:02:50Chad Johnson:Huh? You got your team over there. Leave me be. Yeah, yeah. Let me go. Let me go right out. Hey, hey, hey. So, but that ain't gonna happen in Detroit. I'm telling you that right now. They ain't finna let that boy go, man. That's 2010. All-star, third-team, all-NBA here. He's the reason why you were able to have so much success last year. I don't see them letting him go.

1:03:10Shannon Sharpe:PG played 37 games but got suspended for 25 games. If you don't get suspended, he played 62. No, there's not an award eligible. But it's more games played than LeBron and Ant-Man.

1:03:22Chad Johnson:Well, injuries play a major role in a lot of the top teams, and it was an unforeseen circumstances with PG. So if he could come back, you know, obviously be healthy, play at least 60, 65 games. That'll help Boston. Boston got guys they can plug and play when they top guys don't play. And they don't really miss a beat. So that don't really concern me that much.

1:03:47Shannon Sharpe:Hey, what you call them? They should have got Sam Howser, too. If I'm feeling it, I say, no, we want Sam Howser, too.

1:03:55Chad Johnson:Yeah, Boston ain't letting them go. They like them shooters, guys who can floor spaces. You know, the way you got to stay honest, you got to have those guys around Jason Tatum, bro.

1:04:04Shannon Sharpe:Hey, NICAL fam, my 27th birthday is in a few hours. Can I get a shout out, Unc? Got my Laporte to celebrate. Absolutely. Happy 27th birthday, KJ Show. KJ, happy birthday, Kansas City. Happy 27th, twin. Yes, it is. Appreciate you supporting the Laporte brand. We greatly, greatly appreciate your eyes on Nightcap, and I appreciate you purchasing a bottle of shade by Laporte. Jalen, play with revenge. Tatum might fracture a reel when JB hit that first elbow step back. All right, so what else we need in Philly?

1:04:40Chad Johnson:In Philly? Hey, y 'all better go try to get the King, man. Y 'all go get the King, bring him to Philly. I know, Ocho, I know. I know, Ocho, I know. What do you switch you up, Joe? Look, look, look, look. I know I'm all over the place, but here, somebody need to be on the phone with the King right now, boy, because there's a few teams that can use.

1:04:57Shannon Sharpe:I already told you it's too late. Look, he's instructed Rich Paul, talk to all the other teams, see what they can offer, and we gonna make an decision. It don't matter what they could offer. Or who gives me the best chance to win, money is not an issue. Money is always an issue. That ain't, that's a crocker you know what. The team that can offer the most money is right down here in Miami. Ain't don't need to talk to nobody else. Just come on home.

1:05:20Chad Johnson:Man, please. I wouldn't be surprised if he did sign with Philly. Okay, Ocho, I ain't gonna lie to y 'all.

1:05:27Shannon Sharpe:Well, that's where they had him going when he first left. Remember when you left Cleveland for the second time? Yeah, yeah. Joe, I thought you knew ball, Joe. He don't want no ball. All the pressure is on Tatum. We're going to find out if Tatum can hold it down because I've seen JB do it without Tatum and a roster that lost pieces. Don't you? There's an immense amount of pressure on JT. Immense. Yeah, it is.

1:05:55Chad Johnson:It is. They're going to look for him to get back to MVP caliber Jason Tatum. Yeah.

1:06:01Shannon Sharpe:The All-NBA selection Jason Tatum.

1:06:03Chad Johnson:Yep. You're absolutely right.

1:06:08Shannon Sharpe:Man, I was up in tears last night about CJ. Lost my mom quickly a year ago, and it brought back all the emotions. It was good to let it out. Y 'all doing Lord's work. And woo, damn pig. Iso, Ocho, Lil' May getting knocked out. Yeah, man, I guess this young man lost his mom. He lost his mom a year ago. And then, you know, us talking about CJ and what he's going through. I see Steve Gleason restart to him and like, you know, bro, we family. You're not in this alone. And, you know, we talked about it like no matter what you think you're going through, somebody's got it worse. So we're sending our thoughts and prayers to CJ and his family.

1:06:46Shannon Sharpe:And I am so happy that he has someone in his life. I'm so happy that his wife is steadfast and right there by his side. That's love. That's love. Because everybody, you know, your people talk about love, and they right there with the Birkin bags and Florida and the private jets and all the first class flights and we all over the place and we jet-setting all of a sudden. This. Absolutely. Absolutely. This is what it looks like. So thank you again, bro. Oh, Ocho. And still, King Iso. Big fan, fellas. Y 'all are goats. What your fellas' death row meals? Start of Maine. Dessert. Love the crew. I like that.

1:07:21Shannon Sharpe:All right, Joe. You go go first. Death row meals? What's your appetizer? Last meal. This is the last meal you can eat. You get an appetizer. you get a main, and you get a dessert.

1:07:33Chad Johnson:Man, hell, you telling me this my last meal? This the last one, Joe. I ain't gonna give a damn about it. If this my last meal for real, I mean... So I gotta come with a starter first? Yeah, you get appetizer. Appetizer, man, throw me some, give me some old calamari on there. I'll take a little calamari. Okay, calamari, okay, calamari. Some nice crispy, some nice crispy calamari. Nice crispy calamari, yeah.

1:07:57Shannon Sharpe:Nice crispy calamari.

1:07:58Chad Johnson:I thought you were going to get no more tater skins, but you walked the calamari okay. Ooh, them tater skins, them taste good now. Them taste good, them taste good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What I got, main course? Yep, you got a main course now. Man, give me that porterhouse, medium, medium well. I'm talking about just right. I'm talking about that thing.

1:08:14Shannon Sharpe:Man, get the rib eye that's more flavorful. Joe, you didn't get on the rib eye. The rib eye? The rib eye has more flavor. It's a lot more marbling. It's a little bit more flavor. Get that thing medium. It ain't nothing like it. Oh, you like it medium well? because I want it medium, hot pink center. Keep a little flavor. Yeah, but the marbling and the ribeye, that's where the flavor is.

1:08:36Chad Johnson:Yeah.

1:08:36Shannon Sharpe:Next time you go, stay away from the porterhouse, get you the ribeye. All right, bet. Probably 16 ounces, chef's kiss.

1:08:43Chad Johnson:Okay, okay. Dessert, what you get for dessert? Dessert, man, throw your boy some of that. I want some key lime pie. I'm a key lime pie guy.

1:08:52Shannon Sharpe:I like key lime too, Joe. Yeah, man, give me some.

1:08:54Chad Johnson:Boy, that key line be jumping, boy. Yeah. Yeah, give me some key line. All right, Ocho. What you start with? Y 'all know what I'm eating? I mean, for me, it's really easy. My appetizer, you know, hey, I really ain't going to have no appetizer. I'm trying to get to the main course. What's the main course? Main course, right? Here we go. I need baked or fried chicken, half a chicken, dark meat. I need my leg and my thigh, right? You can do me that. Or I can get five wings. Then my size. I need collard greens, macaroni and cheese. I need candy yams. You hear me? All right. My dessert. My dessert.

1:09:29I need yellow cake with chocolate icing. Preferably better crocker. Better crocker. You know, you can get that cake mix right there in Publix, huh? Yeah. So for me, I need a Czech soda, either peach, either peach Czech soda or grape. And that's good. As far as appetizers go, I'm not one really to have appetizers. but matter of fact, throw some sweet water cornbread on that too. Throw some sweet water cornbread on that too.

1:10:02Shannon Sharpe:All that hell you eat, you go down, you overeat yourself to death. They ain't gonna be able to do that with you. Hey, hey. Hey, that's a cool course meal for me when I go to the soul food spot out here in Miami.

1:10:14Chad Johnson:Yeah, hey, you gonna make a mess of yourself. What you got, huh? Oh, how do you forget?

1:10:22Shannon Sharpe:I don't really get appetizers that much.

1:10:25Chad Johnson:Damn, y 'all don't get no salad or nothing. Salad? Only salad we do, we just toss salads, boy.

1:10:30Shannon Sharpe:We don't eat them. Oh, no, no, no, no, you speak for yourself. Ain't nobody doing all that. Hell nah. The hell you say, what the hell? You speak for yourself. Ain't nobody, that's what we do.

1:10:41Chad Johnson:Look, look, look, look, I understand you like to toss salad and all that. If that's what you do, it don't make you no bad brother. You still aight with me. But listen, where your fibers gonna come in there? You need some good fiber.

1:10:52Shannon Sharpe:Where your fiber comes from? Don't worry about it. Hey, when they put that needle in your, all the muscle relax, it's going to come out anyway. So don't worry about no fiber. That's the last thing on your mind. I'm trying to think. Joe, what do I normally get for appetizers? I don't really get no appetizers. Damn. I mean, look, normally, Joe, I'll get a salad if it's like they have like season, like if they got strawberries on top or they got a peach or something like that. I'll do a salad like that with some candied pecans or something like that. So you know what? It's my last meal. I'll do that.

1:11:24Shannon Sharpe:I want a... But... That's from Houston. You know what? I want a salad.

1:11:32Chad Johnson:Okay.

1:11:33Shannon Sharpe:Hey, hey, hey. I want a spinach. What kind of salad are you talking about? With either strawberries and peaches and candied. You know, I want a salad from chopped. so I want the candied pecans. Oh yeah. You know that chopped joe?

1:11:50Chad Johnson:Oh yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about.

1:11:52Shannon Sharpe:That's pretty salad that they're paired right there outside the table for you.

1:11:55Chad Johnson:That thing be jumping, boy.

1:11:56Shannon Sharpe:And I'm gonna get the ribeye cooked medium. I'm gonna get the mashed potatoes, french fries, and cream corn. Oh yeah. My dessert, I'm gonna see if they'll slip mama in the cell one later. Hey, I like that, I like that, I like that, I like that. That's a good one. Then one last time, just one last time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then one last time. You know, like the Joker said, if you gotta go, go with a smile.

1:12:28Chad Johnson:Hey, yeah, they stick that knee down y 'all, y 'all gonna make a mess of y 'allself, yeah.

1:12:32Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, but I wanna say I ain't even hungry. Hey, hey, Joe, we ain't gonna feel it, Joe. We ain't gonna feel it.

1:12:44Shannon Sharpe:should LeBron sign with Houston and laugh with KD come on man what's up with y 'all man

1:12:53Chad Johnson:well they got a nice roster though if you add him to it everybody got a nice roster if you add LeBron to it man but I told y 'all where you going I wish y 'all stopped coming up with all these accusations the other team man this ain't 2K this real life take your emotions and your feelings out of it This is y 'all fault. Y 'all got me watching and studying and analyzing basketball. So now I'm invested. So now I'm telling people that people in the chat, y 'all gonna piss me off. I don't want to hear nothing about no other team LeBron going to and it looked good. Now I'm telling you where you going.

1:13:24Now the next person say something, I'm telling you, boy, it's going to be hell.

1:13:28Shannon Sharpe:He going somewhere. I heard they changed the Lakers name to the L.A. Quakers.

1:13:34Chad Johnson:Oh, man. Come on, bro.

1:13:38Shannon Sharpe:Come on. You can bank on the NBA scheduling Lakers versus LeBron new team and Boston versus Philly to kick off the NBA 2027 season. Oh, for sure. I don't know if it's that, but you might get them, you definitely gonna get one of them on Christmas. That Christmas Day game, yo, Ocho, Philly play at Boston.

1:13:56Chad Johnson:Oh yeah, on Christmas, yeah, that's gonna happen for sure. And Lakers gonna play with whoever LeBron, wherever LeBron goes to, they gonna play them on Christmas.

1:14:05Shannon Sharpe:Yup. Ocho preaching truth. Mr. Iso is a hangout dude. He chill. Ocho is a meek cause he funny and real. Unk is the best storyteller in the game. Best show on YouTube. Appreciate that, man. Thank you, bro. Appreciate it. So it was LeBron's decision to break the 2020 championship team and AD playing center. Unk be capping. No, that's. Oh, Lord. Unk, Iso, Ocho. Y 'all have got to see this black Western movie called the heart of a fall star study black cast majors eat aegis Elba Regina King etc 10 to 10 I'm gonna check that out I heard about that I think this is the first one that uh Jonathan Major what's the name of it oh the heart of a farm hey baby I know you watching put that on what's on Netflix don't start me to lie baby hey put that on put that on I know you watching put that the heart of a fall put that on so i can watch that thing as soon as we get off twin oh you got to start domination now

1:15:13Shannon Sharpe:abomination uh he gonna go and have the smoke for you if he catches you in these streets you've been going hard to pay matter of fact i see i've seen i've seen uh i've seen aiden when i went to area 29 right before my flight yeah he was in there well hey boy he had them hey boy what we had about 20 on with him boy man

1:15:36Chad Johnson:don't be lying on a man like that bro Joe boy hey

1:15:45Shannon Sharpe:Ocho I also talk about Jalen Brown and Paul George and even Trey Ocho really took this man's ball knowledge I appreciate that twin don't nobody know NBA like I know NBA what

1:16:00Chad Johnson:Listen, listen, listen, listen. I'm not saying from a talent perspective. I'm just saying from Boston, they wanted to get off J.B. Hill. They wasn't going to pay him no damn way. You know what I mean? Then you bring over PG. You know, how many years he got left on this contract? PG, three. Three years left? I think he got three.

1:16:19Shannon Sharpe:No, this is second year. So I think he got two years left on this deal.

1:16:23Chad Johnson:Yeah, so. Because he signed a four-year, like 212, Joe. And I know a lot of people say it's a bad contract, but I think Boston would much rather deal with that than have to pay JB again. Hell, what are you making a year now? What are JB making right now? 50-something. Yeah, hell, you think he's going to be looking to go under that?

1:16:41Shannon Sharpe:He signed a five for 306. He's eligible for a two-year extension for 142, 143. Yeah.

1:16:51Chad Johnson:Yeah, so they weren't willing to do it. Move on.

1:16:54Shannon Sharpe:If you guys could replace any co-star in history on any team and still win a championship with, who could you replace?

1:17:02Chad Johnson:You talking about currently or you just talking about?

1:17:05Shannon Sharpe:If you guys could replace any co-star in history - History. On any team and still win a championship, which could you replace? Ooh, goodness.

1:17:18Hey, you know what? That Philly team, that Philly team with T.O. I forgot who the co-star was. Was it Todd Pinkson or Freddie Mitchell? which one oh

1:17:32Shannon Sharpe:I don't know who the main man was I know T.O. was the main man but yeah Todd Pinkston and Prince just take Todd Pinkston and put me and T.O. there with McNabb yeah we getting that ring New England ain't winning that game

1:17:51Shannon Sharpe:I saw Ocho with the Bulls signing Norman Powell what do you think he can do for the team. And if the Seeds don't win 50, it's going to be scary.

1:17:59Chad Johnson:I think Norman Powell is going to be a great pickup for the Bulls, veteran presence. Obviously, he led Miami in scoring last year. He was an all-star last year. He got a bunch of young guys in that locker room in Chicago that I think Norman Powell will lead the right way. Okay, Ocho. Yeah, but they're going to be terrible, Joe. You think they're going to be terrible? Yeah. They ain't winning nothing. They may be – when you say terrible, They may be playing bound. I don't think they're playing bound. You don't think so? I don't. I think Chicago could be playing, bro. I don't. I think he going to help, though.

1:18:37I think he going to help. They going to play in the park. That's about it.

1:18:41Shannon Sharpe:All right. We going to find out. Thank you guys for joining us for another episode. As you watch the U.S. advance to the round of 16 as they beat Bosnia Herzogovina by the score of 2-0. The good news, we won. We're going to the round of 16. The bad news, Florian Belagun is suspended thanks to a red card that he received in the second half. So he missed the last part of this game, and that means he's automatically suspended for the next game. Come on, USA. That's awful. We're going to win, beat Belgium, and we're to the round of eight. And after that, anything can happen. Y 'all know who I am. I'm your favorite, my partner and co-host.

1:19:23Shannon Sharpe:That's the Liberty City legend. The bingo, ring of fame, honorary. That is Chad Ochocicco Johnson. 1:21:17I'm Jake Brennan, and on my podcast, Disgraceland, I tell the stories behind music's biggest names, the moments that changed music history forever. Sonic Youth was cool, but was the band cooler than the couple on the cover of their album Goo? Cool enough to escape the glare of the international paparazzi? Cool enough to escape murder? Disgraceland is part of the Exactly Right Network, Listen to new episodes every Tuesday, bonus episodes Thursday, and rewinds on Sunday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
