In short
Episode topic: Nightcap Hour 2 mixes sports talk (boxing, NFL, NBA) with guest Q&A. Main segments include Lamont Roach Jr.’s upcoming 140-lb fight and career plans; debate over Chip Kelly’s Raiders play-calling issues; Justin Fields’ reaction to being benched; and Dwyane Wade’s LeBron vs. Michael Jordan GOAT take.
Guests
Lamont Roach Jr., professional boxer (training camp at Pro Box Gym in Tampa; walks around ~150; recently moved up to 140 from 135). Hosts include Ocho and Joe (plus “Unk”/D-Wade discussion later).
Key claims (Roach)
He feels better at 140 because weight cuts drain him; he’ll adjust to a pressure fighter by fighting from his back foot and mixing movement with staying grounded; no rehydration clause is needed (“boxing is boxing”); he expects to win and target WBC 140 title path (and possibly Shakur Stevenson if available); he wants a unification-style fight at 140 and mentions Gary Antoine Russell.
Notable examples
Floyd Mayweather’s weight-cut advantage; Pitbull Cruz as the pressure-fighter opponent; Bam Rodriguez and Stephen Fulton as fighters who impressed Roach; Tom Brady reportedly hiring Chip Kelly and Raiders dysfunction; Justin Fields’ low-yardage games and Jets’ quarterback situation; Wade choosing MJ as greatest he’s watched while acknowledging LeBron’s greatness.

3:00Shannon Sharpe:We got a very special guest joining us, Ocho. We got Lamont Rose Jr. joining us. Made the jump up to 140 from 135. Lamont, how you doing, bro? I'm doing good, man. What's up? Long time, Ocho. I'm doing good. Ocho, go ahead. Take it away. What's up, baby? What they do, boy? What's up, man? I thought you were supposed to come down to camp. and spa. Huh? I ain't hear what you said. I thought you were supposed to come down to campus spa. Hey, Lamont, boy, I got like 350 jobs right now. Boys football season, man.
3:32Chad Johnson:Oh, he copping these clean. He gonna copping these clean. What's up, Joe? Hey, talk to me, baby. How training camp been so far? Man, training camp been good, man. It's always a lot better when I don't got to cut that much weight, so I'm cool. Yeah, so you feel a lot more comfortable being able to fight at 140 as opposed to having a cut? Yeah, naturally. I think any fighter would more than likely feel a little bit more comfortable because that shit drains you. I ain't gonna lie. It drains you.
4:07Shannon Sharpe:Lamont, what do you walk around at? I walk around at like 150. Like, you know. Okay, that ain't got me 10 pounds. And I think that was the advantage that Floyd had. Floyd is not a naturally of big man. Floyd's cutting three pounds, five pounds, making 147. So everybody else walking around 165 trying to go down to 147. Floyd's like, man, I took two days and I'm good. Let's go. For sure. What do you expect the biggest difference between Tank and Isaac Pitbull? It'd definitely be obviously just the style, the pressure style. That's about it. Listen, I was going to ask you the same thing. Obviously going into training camp.
4:50I don't want to know your game plan because there's no reason to disclose that on the show, but understanding that he is a pressure fighter, what adjustments are you going to have to make to your game? Obviously, knowing that styles make fights and you have the style, regardless of him being a pressure fighter or not, you're obviously going to have to bring your bicycle a little bit and fight off your back foot. Do you feel like being able to do that? Tell him, Lamar. Say who I got to do that for? Say who? You going to stay your ground? Oh, for sure. I'm going to mix it up. I ain't dumb. I ain't going to do as much moving as I think I am.
5:25Talk to me. Talk to me. You pressure. Okay. He going to be right there. I'm going to be in shape. I'm going to be able to punch all night. The one thing I wanted to ask too, obviously with Pitbull, he's a pressure fighter, but he also had that high-ass guard. Always throwing them looping-ass hooks. You got to always be at home. right that guard oh yeah for sure i'm so excited but hey hold on hold on hey can i get a ticket to the fight yeah you gonna come oh yeah what can i go to the fight oh joe did you just say
6:05Shannon Sharpe:just tell joe in football season hey what man oh you don't what i'm man i've been waiting on this so long, bro. I've been waiting on this so long. And obviously, I don't mean to count the eggs or the chickens before the hatch. I don't even know what I'm saying. But, I don't want to ask that because I shouldn't say that. Because I want to know what your plan is going to be once you win this fight. I'm going to talk shit for you. There we go. You don't have to say that. But when you win this fight, because I know what's going to happen, Styles wins fights, you are the better, pure boxer. If you need to move, you can move if you don't want to move you can sit in the pocket you can exchange you're very smart we saw you with how you were able to fight again against okay so what are your plans after this fight i know you're not supposed to look ahead just just just give me a tidbit what's next after not not overlooking pitbull but uh right we'll all do respect to him well yeah we'll all do respect to him uh after we went out we're gonna be the intern uh world champion at 140 so that's going to put us in line for the WBC world title.
7:16And that's the guy who has that belt. Really, he just popped dirty for a drug test. Oh, no. He just popped dirty for a drug test and he has a fight schedule. So who knows if he gets stripped or not. Either way, he's supposed to fight in January. So that's cool. Lines me up for somewhere because I'm going to tell you right now. If the Shakur fight is unavailable if it's unavailable for us to do after he fights T.O., we're pressing the issue on the WBC mandating that me and the champion fight, for sure.
7:53Shannon Sharpe:Are you looking to circle back and fight Tank? If that's something that's on your radar, are you moving ahead? No, I've been moved past that. Who knows what he's doing, what his career, what he got going on. But my career is never going to be based on one fighter. I got bigger and better things to do Yeah most definitely You know there was a lot made about Eubanks being The rehydration clause Do you have a rehydration clause in this contract? Hell nah Boxing is boxing People have been losing weight for forever What you need a rehydration clause for If you can make the weight you can make the weight Oh hey hold on Hey hold on Since you don't have no rehydration clause then So how about this After you beat Pitbull Cruz, right?
8:40How about I give you a tune-up fight before your next one? I like that. I like that. As long as you can put them butts in the seats, we gonna do it. I can feel a stadium.
8:51Shannon Sharpe:Hey, he gonna put the butts in the seats. Hey, I can feel a stadium quick, boy. Hey, Ocho. He got 22 kids, Lamar, so we got 22. Hey, boy, these hands different, boy. You hear me? My shit registered, boy. Ocho. Ocho. I done heard it all before. What? I don't even know that song. I done heard it all before. Man, bro, I will hurt you, man. I definitely heard that, too. Real talk, bro. I'm telling you, bro.
9:20Chad Johnson:Go ahead, Joe. Let me see. Hey, Roach, tell me something, bro. You got any fight night rituals that do's and don'ts that you don't mind sharing? Fight night rituals, do's and don'ts. Superstitions. Superstitions. superstition man nah not really you know they say y 'all ain't supposed to have sex during camp or before is it something you eating I think we talked about that last time we was on nightcap look scientifically my testosterone levels are higher yeah scientifically my sports doctor told me beyond 4 weeks it's excessive So if four weeks Four weeks and under You know you might you should save it Because after that four weeks It's just going it's going to build up But it ain't it ain't going higher Or it ain't it's going to be at max So you're going to be cool
10:19Shannon Sharpe:Okay I like that I like that So how long was this training camp for you Lamont So I do eight week training camp Seven weeks and then you know five weeks So do you do you go off You go to Big Bear, you go to Mammoth, you go to Colorado Springs. I'm in Tampa right now. So Tampa's like my new home, man. They made a home for me over there at the Pro Box Gym. I had my own office and everything. They showed me love. Shout out to Gary. You're right down the street. I told you, man. That's what I say. You're supposed to come. Man, why you could have hit me? I'm right here in Miami. Yeah, for sure. For sure.
10:54Shannon Sharpe:He ain't trying to do nothing. He ain't trying to do nothing wrong. Man, I ain't make you miss out on nothing. I'm way over here on the West Coast. I'll make you miss out. I know, but you got me working like seven days a week. I could have went to camp. Damn. Oh, man. What made you decide to take up boxing? How long have you been boxing? You've been a boxer your whole – I mean, did you play any other sports, basketball, football, baseball? I played basketball, football, baseball, and I boxed. But, you know, I probably – my first love was football. So, you know, every little young 'un thought they was going to go to the NFL.
11:33I was one of them. I was one of them. So, I got to high school and I seen how big they was getting and I was losing weight before a fight. I'm like, shit. What position? What position was you playing? I was playing running back, fullback, and linebacker. Linebacker? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I was out there. You know, these turned into something after I was out there striking. I was out there striking. Little League you know phenom
11:59Shannon Sharpe:yeah
12:04Shannon Sharpe:so you go 140 so would you after you like let's just say for the sake of argument you get named to WBC Interm 140 are you going to stay at 140 or are you looking to go to 147 or are you going to come back down to 135 I'm going to come back down to 135 I'm going to see what's out there at 40 but I definitely want to go back to 35 because I feel like I was robbed of a championship so I want to be champion at 135. Well, you might have to fight the guy that you felt that robbed you of the championship. You might have to fight him again. Man, they say he retired. I don't know what's going on with him, bro.
12:35Shannon Sharpe:I don't know if he made that guy Floyd Mayweather money. He could just go call it a career. Maybe if he'd have got that Jake Paul fight, maybe he could have done that. Hey, maybe if he would have took the rematch, he would have got that too, but hey. Yeah. You know what? I'm not sure when it comes to boxing, if it's an unwritten rule to say names on potential people you would like to fight. And again, I'm not trying to put the cart before the horse. Obviously, you have a fight coming up. But is there someone that you would like to fight next? I'm not saying you're calling them out. I'm just saying a fight that you'd like to know that you know it can continue and help your legacy and get your career going in the direction you want to based on the kind of people that you do fight and get in the ring with.
13:20yeah I definitely have a preference I want to fight whoever the WBC champion will be at 140 then Shakur because I think it's the best fight in boxing I think that'd be the best fight in our weight class to make and I think that that'd be you know a super fan friendly fight and everybody wants to see that fight because they've been calling for it ever since I fought my last fight and then third I'd like to fight Gary Antoine Russell I don't know if y 'all know who that is
13:53Shannon Sharpe:Oh yeah, absolutely He's a WBA champion at 140 So you trying to unify the 140 or 135? Whichever comes first Okay When you go to camp and you're looking for sparring partners are you trying to find partners that will resemble the fighter that you're going to actually fight? What are you looking for a sparring partner? My dad handles all that. He definitely looks for guys that resemble guys that are going to be that resembles and guys who are actually going to be challenging as well too. My sparring partners for this camp, a few of my sparring partners, they was tough. They was tough. They was big.
14:39They could take a shot. They was rugged, gritty, and they just so happened to be Mexican. anytime you want a pressure fighter you always got to get somebody mexican they coming forward no matter what hey rose did your dad the one got you in the boxing bro uh basically yeah he took me to the gym but he took my cousin to the gym and um it was for him but he just asked me if it's like one you want to get in there it was a rap yeah a rap since then
15:12Shannon Sharpe:that's dope and you been hooked ever since oh for sure i ain't missing who are some of the fighters that you like damn obviously floyd but there are any fighters outside of that that you look at like well damn i kind of like i kind of like your style i kind of like what they've done some of the fighters that that's impressed you uh a lot of i'm a boxing fan so a lot of fighters impressed me um old fighters new fighters i want to say the fighters today that really impressed me In a way Bam Rodriguez Bam nice boy In a way putting people to sleep Yeah for sure Who else I like I like Stephen Fulton too That's my homie though Yeah that's my homie I like him A lot of people He's on his way to punching his ticket to the Hall of Fame if people don't really know, he's going for his third world title in another weight class.
16:12Wow.
16:14Shannon Sharpe:He doing that. Did you watch boxing as a kid? Because the fights, I'm way older than you, Lamont, but I remember fights used to come on like regular TV. You know, I could watch Sweet Pea Whitaker. I could watch Chavez. I could watch all these fighters because they came on Saturday. You could watch them. So a lot of these fighters that became great, you actually could see them fight before pay-per-view. I mean, only the really, really big fights. But when they were coming up, you could see them on regular television. Yeah, I think that's the difference nowadays in today's sport and boxing today.
16:49There's not a lot of exposure now like it was back then. And that's why I think that's why it's not as hype or as anticipated as the fights back then. And that's why the fights aren't so big because those fights have been getting built up ever since, like you said, as soon as they turned pro. They got eyes on them. They got eyes on them. Everybody can watch them. They know who they are. They see them coming up, and next thing you know, all right, these two guys are fighting. He's the champion. He's the champion. They're about to fight. Yeah, I used to watch fights when I was young. My favorite fighters when I was younger were Roy Jones, Prince Nasim, Ahmed.
17:29Man, Prince be showing out the ring, man. and Joe he just named one of my favorite fighters obviously you know from I love boxing but obviously those that have the entertaining aspect and bring that to the ring for me the drunken master Emmanuel Augustus man hey Lamont I wish if I was a boxer I would have looked exactly like that I'm just being honest I mean it's no different than the way I played the game of football I gotta entertain at the same time respect my craft and have fun but man emmanuel gustin the prince nasim um ben whitaker does it a little bit yeah oh yeah oh man ben whittaker be doing he be doing he be doing it yeah but i don't know i don't know i just i just god damn i love i love the
18:22Shannon Sharpe:sweet science man well lamont man good luck hey good luck on saturday uh do what you do do what you normally do, what you know how to do. Everybody at NICAP wishing you all the best. Once you win that title, come back here and show us the belt. Nah, for sure. I got you. You got to do me one favor. What's up? When they talk to you in the ring, right? And you give your speech after winning and they say who you want to fight next, make sure you call me out. Say no more. Say no more. Beat it! So you can jump in the ring after you make it theatrical and shit. Okay, okay. We can do a face-off and then I'm going to mush you, okay?
18:58I'm emotional. No, no, I don't like that one right there. I don't like it. Hey. Hey. Hey.
19:02Shannon Sharpe:I don't like that one right there. Hey, hit it with a bowl. Catch it with one of the bolos, Lamont. Nah, I got you, man. Hey, man. Congratulations. All the success. Continued success. We'll see you down the road, bro. I appreciate y 'all, man. Y 'all take care. Copenhagen Spit Free packs American-grown tobacco into pouches. 22:24Shannon Sharpe:Yes, sir. Ocho Joe, new reports have come out saying Chip Kelly was messing up his own play calls and calling plays not installed. According to Tom Pelissero, there are all kinds of different stories that just came to function. of the Raiders offense. There were times I was told that Chip Kelly was repeating botching the plays called. So Geno Smith was going to the line of script and saying, this doesn't look right, and they're not having a run play. Reports also indicate it was Tom Brady's idea to hire Chip Kelly as OC and possibly potential successor to head coach Pete Carroll. Well, we know normally great players, they don't make the best head coaches and talent evaluators.
23:06Now, I don't know if this is true.
23:09Shannon Sharpe:That's what's being reported. So we just take this with a grain of salt. But Ocho, if this is true. Yeah, and that's bad. Also, that is reported that Brady didn't want Shadour. Like I said, those are reports. That's not Ocho and I and Joe, and that's not us. Chat, you guys have read the reports also.
23:32Shannon Sharpe:But to hire a first-year coordinator and him be terminated before the season, that is a terrible look.
23:41Chad Johnson:Yes, sir.
23:42Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. And I think the thing is for the Raiders, and this is probably a lot that has to do with why the Raiders have so much dysfunction, because they don't have and they haven't had stability in a very long time. Right. they don't have a coach longer than a couple of years. They don't have a GM longer than a couple of years. They can't find a quarterback. They keep thinking that they're going to find that everybody is not meant to be Mahomes or Lamar or Josh Allen or Joe Burrow. Sometimes you're going to have to win with, say, a lesser, maybe not a tier one quarterback, but maybe he might need to be in that tier two, and then you get better pieces around him, Ocho.
24:22Shannon Sharpe:But this notion that everybody from the beginning of time has always had a number one quarterback is just not true no but this is this is the thing if you don't have a quarterback that's not like brady or not like mahomes or or your joe burrows your lamars then your drafting prowess has to be that much better and being able to build around them so you have to hit on the on your draft picks and the supporting cast you know around your quarterback in order to have success if you don't catch one of the big fish like a damn mahomes or Josh Allen. Yes. That comes down to, that's on the organization as well.
24:58But it's very difficult. It's very difficult to hit not only on draft picks, but to make sure they're going to stick, you know, for 10 years or more. Unless you get a quarterback, it's up in the air.
25:15Shannon Sharpe:It's just hard for me to see, Ocho. A guy as great as Tom Brady being able to pick another Tom Brady.
25:25that's tough there
25:27Shannon Sharpe:it is now I'm not saying that if a free agent becomes available like John did with Peyton but to draft one it's hard for great most of the great evaluators they weren't look at the guys that's picking those NBA players look at RC Buford look at the guy that's in OKC
25:50Chad Johnson:Preston
25:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, Sam Preston. Ain't playing liquor ball.
25:56Shannon Sharpe:The only basket they had was Easter basket. Ain't had nothing about no basketball, no basketball. So it's just hard. And look, I get it. A guy that's well accomplished is Brady, but it's going to be hard for him to hit on players because he was so great. Yeah, but you don't think – And he thinking – because what came easy to him, Ocho, is hard to everybody else. and he's like man I could do that in my sleep yeah you Tom Brady that's right yes don't you think he might have success simply because he knows what it's supposed to look like and hit the eye test every everyone has to know no I don't I think it's even harder okay because I had a conversation with magic and magic said it's hard he said because it was easy for me and I'm like why can't you do that and people say well because he's not magic Johnson Think about when you great You basically think everybody else should be great Because and I'm not saying it's easy Because there are some things that came easy But you worked at it Right So now things that came like second nature to you It's like Damn son How many times we got to go over this
27:10Chad Johnson:That's why you ain't got no patience to coach
27:15Shannon Sharpe:I think the only thing that can help Tom, he suit up for one year to show him how it's done.
27:22Chad Johnson:Nah. Nah. Because you got to have weapons too, Uncle. You got to have some weapons. You just can't have no good quarterback and you ain't got no weapons out there.
27:30Shannon Sharpe:Well, they traded their best receiver. I mean, the best player on the opposite side of football is Brock Bowers. But they traded their best receiver, which was Jacoby Myers. Well, if you trade your best receiver, What are you telling the team, Bocho? Hey, that's basically a reset button. That's basically a reset button. Hey, let's say, how about this, Joe? And Unk, hypothetically speaking, you know, but F it. Brady say, you know what? I'm leaving the booth. I'm coming back to play quarterback for the Raiders. In the offseason, Mark Davis goes and get number three from the Cowboys, brings him on over there to Las Vegas.
28:12I'm just throwing that out there.
28:14Shannon Sharpe:Let me ask you a question. You tell me where a guy can make September, October, November, December, January, and when they have the Super Bowl, work six months out of the year and make$37.5 million. Now, when you're leaving your job where you make $37.5 million to work five months and two weeks,
28:34Chad Johnson:it ain't happening.
28:35Shannon Sharpe:I'm asking you I'm asking Ocho would you do that is there a job that you make that you would leave your job you work five months and two weeks when you have the Super Bowl 37 and a half million dollars would you do that no hey I don't hey Joe I know a job you can make 37 million in a week though I don't think you want to do it because the chances yeah and i know a place they'll send you to turn big rocks into little rocks
29:13Chad Johnson:hey ocho and why you always trying to give pick away to somebody man why we just can't keep him in dallas why you trying to come on i want what's best i want what's best for pickings man joe i'm saying listen what's best is he looks so good i know i know what he looks like joe why you want to send him out there to oakland somewhere and the man getting double and triple team now he ain't getting okay now he acting like a man to get his money Joe and I know how you own a play Joe I know how you own a play Joe no disrespect to the Cowboys you know I just I just know how you play you know and and and and his agent you know brother Mugletta he ain't going for that man we ain't playing them games like he played with Micah man come on man come on Joe he done did it he didn't did with everybody Joe all of a sudden all of a sudden now cutting the pickings everything's supposed to be so much more different so anybody got time for that Joe you never know we got to see how thing play out Ocho we done seen him play out with everybody else we're supposed to make him any different it played out with it damn it played out with Dak what the hell you think gonna make it different with pick that you gotta fight you gotta fight you gotta fight like Joe you gotta fight tooth and nail for your money Joe every time yeah I'm saying I'm saying he gonna he gonna fight Ocho but you gotta be patient have some patience you know they say patience is a virtue but sometimes patient how you looking like a fool how you looking like a fool because i remember back in elementary uh and joe i was patient this little girl little girl named tammy you know yeah my pe coach told me just be patient with her i was patient joe the whole summer went along joe and she picked me yeah she picked some little ugly some little ugly dude man named corey and he wore loafers to school with the penny in the front yeah they call a penny loafer come on man how you gonna he got on loafers with a penny in the front yeah like how you don't see the potential and who i was gonna be look how it turned out easy because you came to school barefoot yeah now when i wonder where she at now ah tammy now look at the lord don't hate on tabby tell me what i would a why huh don't hit on tammy yeah she probably she probably married cory and
31:28Shannon Sharpe:They probably happy ever after. I guarantee. Well, that's fine because I'm happy now too. Right. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And Corey probably ain't got to do all the stuff that you do. Nah. Mm-hmm. Shoot. Mm-hmm. That's fine. My baby. Nasty rascal. I ain't nasty. I'm just doing what God put me on earth. God ain't do that. Don't put that on God. Don't do that on you. He did. Don't do that. Don't do that. God put me here to be a blessing and I'm blessing in all ways I can. Ocho, all I'm saying, Ocho, is that you can't eat off everybody's plate. Well, I don't eat it. It's like, Joe, Joe, every house you go to, you don't eat at everybody's house, right, Joe?
32:13I don't go to everybody's house.
32:16Shannon Sharpe:You eat off everybody's plate. I don't even leave my house. I don't even go nowhere. You know that's a figure of speech, right? I know it was a figure of speech, but I'm giving you a figure of my speech too. But Ocho, see, them things, what you be getting, oh, I already know you got to do all that. Nah, not really. Not really. Hey, listen, you got to remember, this is me. I ain't really got to do nothing, honestly. Yeah, you do. No, no. Yeah, you do. Hold on, let's not be fooled. This is me. Okay, go ahead. I ain't got to do nothing. now I might choose to bless you in that manner if I feel like it but I ain't gotta do nothing Ocho there was once upon a time let me tell you why talk to me because they got people out there they got just as much money as Ocho that got named just as big as Ocho because what Ocho want another will hey hold on but if something ain't nobody you don't build your you don't build dandy right yeah the word out it's it's something that nobody else got but me they say ocho got the best got the best jaws in town that's what the word is on the screen hey you know hey that's what i'm sure that's what's up hey hey i got something nobody else got nobody it's only me Joe, everybody know there was just one that was in college.
33:49Shannon Sharpe:The word done got out. Nah. The word done got out. Yeah. Ocho, hold on. You mean, uh-oh-oh-oh. Uh-oh. Oh, Dan's an Ocho. That one. Son of a rebel with the gold jacket on you. Yeah. Girl. Yeah. Have your toes curled. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's what they say. That's what they say. Yeah. Yeah.
34:19Chad Johnson:Say Colin Jones. Yeah. Hey, Joe. Yeah. Hey, Joe. Come on.
34:25Shannon Sharpe:He have you the pillow?
34:30Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Okay. Yeah. They done put the word out of it. Hey. Hey. Hey, but y 'all funny tonight, boy. Hey, y 'all funny.
34:44Chad Johnson:Hey, hey, but you know what's crazy about all that, Ocho? Man, you do all that sober, cause you don't even know. That what I'm talking about. Cool. Hey. Y 'all, y 'all rookies, man. Y 'all. That's what they call him.
34:58Shannon Sharpe:They call him Joe, baby. Y 'all, y 'all rookies. Y 'all, y 'all rookies. I can't even believe you, Ocho. As a matter of fact, we can't even, we can't even, Hey, no way. Hey, Joe, I told Ocho, I'm gonna come down there. i would come down there on the vacation yeah i'm bringing my own cups my own plates my own you ain't got to do that i ain't got no goddamn i ain't got no cups in place in here anyway but ain't nothing in here okay hey nothing when my kids come they come here and i send them to the grocery store get all the snacks you need get your cups and your paper plates make sure you get you know red solo cups that's it don't leave no dishes in the sink whatever you use make sure you throw it away when you leave i forget you said you was a moment i'm a minimalist joe a minimalist
35:54Shannon Sharpe:on twitter you can fight him at jaws that's a that's a handle nah my bad i ain't mean to put that out there oh i ain't mean to put that out there because you got you got a couple of them nah hey my hey no i'm i'm listening i i i got i i don't want to See, I'm taking that, so I can't... And in fact, she helps him design a faster plane. She takes a look at what he's designed. It's got these square wings. And she's like, that doesn't make sense. And so she finds the fastest bird and the fastest fish and sketches out a drawing of like what the two would look like as a plane. And that becomes the plane that we know today. And he calls her a genius. Check out our new episode spotlighting groundbreaking innovators like Hedy Lamarr and Billie Jean King.

39:43Shannon Sharpe:Justin Fields spoke to reporters for the first time since being benched for Tyrod Taylor. Fields admitted the decision to remove him from the starting role wasn't one he was anticipating. Fields made it clear he's expected to be starting quarterback in the NFL again in the future. The Jets signed Fields to a two-year$40 million contract with$30 million of the money coming guaranteed, leaving the door open for the two sides to part ways after the season. Now that he's been demoted to a backup role, it appears likely that Fields would not be the quarterback in 2026. Damn. Hello, Ocho. What do you mean you weren't anticipating this?
40:21Shannon Sharpe:bro you got four or five games in which you throw for less than 100 yards you've got a couple of games you throw for less than 60 what do you mean yeah i mean listen obviously when he says what what what do you mean maybe he's surprised because what do i have to work with there's a reason why i haven't been successful as a quarterback hell before i got here there were no other quarterbacks that was successful, you know, before I got here. So maybe I'm not the problem. But they're going to say you weren't that successful in other places that you were either. Remember, it was you that allowed them to get the number one pick.
41:00Hey, I mean, listen, you're right. I'm with you when you're right, but they haven't found that quarterback yet. I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's a Jets organization. I don't know if they did something bad to somebody in the past. they just had they just having bad luck all all the way around and i really thought really honestly honestly joe i really thought this was justin field's time this was i did too i can't i can't lie i agree this is his team he doesn't have to worry about anybody no quarterbacks you don't have to look over his shoulder he can play with the free mind and just go out there and do what he our guy.
41:39They gave him the keys and things just, I don't know what was wrong, Joe.
41:45Chad Johnson:Hey, listen, kind of like we were just talking about, I know they got Gary Wilson over there. But man, he need weapons. Okay, Ocho, we putting these quarterbacks in these positions thinking they just supposed to come out here and light it up. Damn, if you ain't got no elite receivers, how you supposed to do all that? That's what I'm saying. Ocho,
42:04Shannon Sharpe:all things being equal. Joe, Ocho, Justin Fields, your starting quarterback. You a free agent. Are you going to the Jets? If I'm a wide receiver. No, you're not. You're looking at the quarterback situation. Oh, you can go to the Rams or I can go to the Jets. I can go to Kansas City. I can go. No, Ocho, you're not. I'm going to Chicago. I'm not going to no. I'm just not. And nobody, no receiver, because we know the receivers want the ball, and that's how you're not going there. If I got a choice, if I get traded there, I get drafted there, they've removed that from me. But if I got a choice in free agency there, no.
42:50No. I'm not.
42:53Shannon Sharpe:Just not.
42:58Shannon Sharpe:So Sam Darnold, Geno Baker rebuilt their careers elsewhere. so let's see but it have been a few places Chicago, Pittsburgh not a Jets but here's the thing is that all those guys are different because most of those guys are really drop back quarterbacks can throw the ball from the pocket that's really not Phil's strength so he's going to have to go somewhere Ocho So a great place for him, but I don't, they don't look, they got Purdy and they got Matt Jones. Now would be San Francisco. I mean, hold on. What would be the difference in Trey Lance and Justin Fields? Cause now you're putting the break back in the same situation.
43:47They've already had a quarterback already like that.
43:51Shannon Sharpe:The difference between Trey Lance, they had expectations. You're the third pick in the draft. You're on your third. You'll just be your 14. You don't have the same level of expectations. And guess what? he's not going to be a starter. You're getting the same quarterback, though. It's still the same thing. You don't think Justin Fields is a better thrower to football than Trey Lance? Because here's the thing with Trey Lance, Ocho. He basically played 17 games in his collegiate career. Because remember, he had that great season and then COVID happened.
44:23Shannon Sharpe:But he's going to have to go somewhere. and if you go if they're having an influx of talent at the at the wide receiver in the tight end position right they're not looking for justin fields oh joe oh man i i i hate that for young bull honestly man i hate that just that that has to do something to your confidence everything's in work out in chicago hell you go to goddamn pittsburgh you're playing well then they bench you once Russell Wilson gets healthy. You leave there. You come to New York. You put all this work in the offseason. Finally, I got my turn. I got my team. I got my opportunity. And things don't work out.
45:03I just... I'm not even him. And I feel bad. So I can understand what it's probably doing for him mentally. That has to be crushing, man. What about Baltimore? Can he go back up Lamar? Yeah. Yeah, I like that. That's a good one.
45:21Chad Johnson:that's a good one i like it because i i don't think it's a bad idea to kind of have to sit and watch sometime you know what i mean and i'm sure it's opportunity to come again but uh i wouldn't mind seeing him sitting behind lamar and uh just kind of watching you never know what what may happen i don't know damn man that's what is nfl crazy boy but you go you go to a bad team man how you losing all your confidence thinking there's something really wrong with you when there's really nothing wrong with you and just your surroundings. Now, as much as you want to adapt to your surroundings, when you're in a losing environment, there's not much you can do unless you're special.
46:00You got to be special to go to an environment like New York and change everything. Yeah.
46:08Shannon Sharpe:You got to be, man. And he's not that, I mean, Aaron Rodgers couldn't change it. And Aaron Rodgers had Garrett Wilson and Devontae Adams, and he couldn't change it with Brees Hall. Look at Devontae at the Rams. Cutting. Balling. Garrett Wilson was offensive rookie of the year. Was it Sam Darnold or was it, what's the guy's name? Zach Wilson. Zach Wilson. Maybe one of those guys. He has not looked the same since his rookie year. Yeah. And I know he can play because based on what I saw his rookie season, and they were supposed to be bringing in better quarterbacks than what he had as a rookie. Right.
46:59Chad Johnson:That is crazy.
47:04Shannon Sharpe:Yes. I don't know. Like I said, he might need to go somewhere. He might need to just go somewhere and sit for a year or so.
47:15Chad Johnson:and wait for his opportunity to come back
47:17Shannon Sharpe:because you can't keep ocho you can't keep going places you get a starting job in five six weeks into the season they bench you yeah you you lose all your confidence yeah not not only do you lose all confidence then you're hesitant and don't you can't play freely if you cannot play the game of football with a free mind and play fast you're gonna oh man it just that's not gonna be a good thing.
47:44Chad Johnson:I agree. Kind of similar to basketball. Read and react. You know what I mean? If you're out there thinking, overthinking, thinking too much, the game's going to be tough for you. You have to go out there and read and react and make plays, bro. You'd be one step behind.
48:01Shannon Sharpe:Steph Curry has reportedly parted ways with Under Armour after they failed to sign Kaitlyn Clark. According to reports, one sore point for Curry was he attempted last year to recruit Kaitlyn Clark to join his brand he and the company pursued the phenom but Under Armor offer failed offer excuse me trailed the total value of Nike's pitch Curry and his advisors became frustrated by what they viewed was an underinvestment in the brand meanwhile the division sales weren't meeting the company's or Curry's expectation Joe yeah that's that's kind Well, that's what I thought when I first seen that he's getting away from Under Armour.
48:46Chad Johnson:I was thinking that the sales probably wasn't what he predicted. But it is, man. It's funny seeing him in any other suit. I'm going to be honest with y 'all. I've been seeing him in Nike, Joy, and I'm like, it just don't look right. It's going to look right after a while because I'm going to be having him on.
49:05Shannon Sharpe:What you got?
49:07Chad Johnson:Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I know they're going to write him a big check. I know they're going to write him a big check. So I'm sure he's probably enjoying this moment, though, Uncle Ocho being a free agent.
49:16Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, he gets some cool stuff. I saw him in some Tinker Hatfields. He getting old stuff. I mean, he gets some really, really, really cool stuff. He had Travis Scott's on tonight, the mochas.
49:26Chad Johnson:Yeah, for real. He been, man, the man been wearing under armor for, what, 13 years? Yeah. Yeah, it's been that long? Oh, man, over a decade, Ocho, he couldn't be caught in nothing else. You know what I mean? so yeah he's definitely enjoying this moment but yeah it is a little weird to see him in anything else but I'm curious to see who he's gonna ultimately you know go with to kinda start to support the Curry brand but man if he the guy Caitlin what's that you got
49:54Shannon Sharpe:Steph Curry
49:57Chad Johnson:did he sign him
49:59Shannon Sharpe:yep
50:00Chad Johnson:hey um them thing gonna be worrisome one day boy
50:05Shannon Sharpe:Boy, hey, I might put these on because I think they're my size. I might put these on and go drop 20.
50:16Shannon Sharpe:Oh, yeah. It just looks. It's tough. It's tough to beat Nike, Adidas that have been at this for so long. Yeah. See, I mean, had Jordan never went to Nike, you might have had a chance. Yeah. But ain't no shoe company gonna beat. Not when it come to them. Not when it come to athletic. They just got too much for our research and development. Right. I mean, you remember they came, they had the Sharks, and they had the Air Maxes, and they just on the cutting edge, and their apparel is just like, and I get it, but I just don't think even with Curry, they were gonna never be able to get a foothold because they had UCLA.
51:05Shannon Sharpe:They had to get out of that contract. They had a couple of others. They had to get out of those contracts. They just...
51:13Shannon Sharpe:Curry, just go ahead and go to the highest bidder. Nike is going to give you some good, solid money. Yeah. And ride it out for the next four or five years or however long you want to play.
51:25Chad Johnson:You're right. Because I wonder what Under Armour are trying to do. If they lose Steph Curry, I'm sure he was their biggest draw.
51:33Shannon Sharpe:He had on Onescu's, they sold out. Yeah. What's Onescu? Sabrina Onescu, the point guard for the Liberty. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, okay. Sold out. So he can, His influence. Yeah!
51:50Chad Johnson:Yeah, his influence is gonna be huge wherever he goes. So, I mean, this is a cool moment, man.
51:56Shannon Sharpe:Nike going to give him about 15 million, Go and forgive him somewhere 15, 20 million a year for a hundred million dollar deal for the next five years. Give him a look, give him a three logo. That's kinda low. Give him a three logo, huh? That's kinda low, huh?
52:13Chad Johnson:Nike, Nike got some, they got some hitters over there. They got some hitters over there.
52:18Shannon Sharpe:Ocho, you ain't got no job. Man, that's low ball, okay. You just keep giving us free advertising, okay. We talking about Steph Curry, now you talking about a hundred million. a goddamn gear. Gearwood Arenas made$100 million back then when he was playing. Ocho, he don't have a shoe deal. So you're going to keep wearing people's stuff, giving them free promotion? Well, it ain't really free promotion because everything he's wearing, obviously, you know, it's... It's selling out and he's not getting a dime from it. What you think? I just told you. I just, I mean... I'm going to tell you what I think, Joe.
52:55Go ahead. That's low balling.
52:56Chad Johnson:I think he's going by February he's going to find a brand that he's going to sign with and probably like All-Star Weekend he's probably going to debut the shoot. He's coming out. Yeah. I like that.
53:16Shannon Sharpe:At that point you're not really trying to get market share. You know you're trying to get 2 % because you're never going to put a big enough then into Nike or Adidas or something like that. And then really he was really the only under armor. At least if you look at Puma, Puma got a bunch. They got LaMelo Ball and I think they got a Halliburton.
53:43Chad Johnson:They got a nice little rock. It ain't the same though. I guarantee you Nike can come up with something nice for the next four or five years. Their creative team could have a new shoe a new model that would be really really dope that can rival some of the other players that are with Nike they can get creative with it they got the resources I think Adidas can too Adidas got some nice I like Ant-Man Ant-Man, James Harden maybe New Balance they got some guys over there no No No No Not New Balance No Not New Balance basketball shoes Absolutely not Adidas yes Nike
54:31Shannon Sharpe:You don't like the Kawhi Littles Where they got Kawhi They got what you call them too They got Cooper flag Nah
54:46Hey Joe I been working on my shot Joe
54:50Chad Johnson:You been working on your shot shot right here at home joe hey i'm i'm waiting i'm waiting on it uh when uh um who is that teddy Thanos which one is that Thanos hey Thanos look like a bear cub
55:10hey you gotta cut his hair uncle's hair getting big
55:14Shannon Sharpe:yeah it's getting cold out here Dwayne Wade provided a take on Michael Jordan LeBron James goat debate Dwayne said I'm going to say Michael Jordan is the greatest player I've ever watched He's the greatest player I've ever watched LeBron James is the greatest player I've ever seen You feeling me? I never saw Michael Jordan I watched Michael Jordan I saw, I've seen LeBron James up close and in person I played against, I played with I personally have not seen a greater basketball player but I've watched a great basketball player. Joe, what's your take?
55:49Chad Johnson:I totally understand what he's saying. Ocho, I grew up watching Michael Jordan. That's my goat. He made the game sexy. He made it to where as a kid, bro, growing up in the 90s, I wanted to be like Mike. You know what I mean? But what D-Wade is saying, that's probably who D-Wade grew up watching as well. Yeah, for sure. He's from Chicago. Yeah, but he played with LeBron James, who obviously right now, every time he scores a bucket, it goes down in history. You know what I mean? Like he is, he's going to be the GOAT when it comes to all these records, man. So I understand what he's saying. You know, getting a chance to play with LeBron.
56:31Chad Johnson:I played with LeBron in 06 in the Olympics. Hell of a player, bro. Hell of a player. I mean, he has no weaknesses.
56:39Shannon Sharpe:You was on the 014, Joe?
56:42Chad Johnson:Nah, I was on the 06. the the redeemed team we ain't getting no gold neither okay oh oh and the world championship man mellow d-way braun they owe me bro they owe me well we went down there uh argentina got y 'all huh argentine argentina they were good like that yeah they had this big dude yeah they did but they had this big dude in the middle oh i'm telling we had the white and Howard and everything. I'm talking about Apex Dwight. Man, we couldn't do nothing with this big boy they had down there.
57:18Shannon Sharpe:One thing them bigs could do in Europe, they're going to be able to pass the ball and they got tremendous footwork.
57:24Chad Johnson:Hey, I'm talking, this was a big body, big body. He wasn't shooting no threes or nothing. In the paint? He was a bruiser. Oh, man. Like Shaq? Yeah, but he was a lot shorter. Damn. But he was wide-bodied, man. I'm talking about we couldn't stop him. Dang
57:43Shannon Sharpe:Did you see LeBron last night? That performance that Luka, AR, and Bron Easy 25-6-6 No stress on the bottom
57:55Chad Johnson:Okay Ocho Lakers got two of the bad white boys Austin Reeves Austin Reeves and Luka And I think the beauty About all this is that Bron just kind of plays the Swiss Army knife he brings to the game what's needed. He don't go out there trying to score no 30-40. He gonna be cool right around like about 22 a game when it all comes down. 22-7-7. He can do what he want, Ocho. You know what I mean? He can feel the game out and he can assess like, okay, boom. I ain't really got to do a lot of scoring right now. I can just facilitate these boys hot as fish grease out here. Man, the way Luka came, I said, this boy's gonna go for
58:35Shannon Sharpe:60 tonight. Did you see him in the first quarter, Joe? Oh my God. I definitely thought he was going to go for six. He had 32 at the half. He cooled out a lot in the second half. He ended up only having 11 points, but he was going crazy. That first quarter, I was like, damn.
58:51Chad Johnson:Yeah, I was too. Probably the most beautiful thing about it is when he got going, you can see A.R. and Bruin, they kind of just let him roll. You know what I mean? They were not my turn. They let that man go until he just kind of, you know, started to cool off a little bit. And that's what I appreciate the most. Because when you get a guy that's hot, man, you got to feed him. See how far can he maintain this. And Luka was special in that first quarter, bro. Man. All right. It's time. Ocho. Go ahead, Joe. Go ahead. My bad. Ocho, that boy shooting that thing. Effortless three, four feet behind the three, man.
59:28He nice.
59:29Chad Johnson:He had like three in a row.
59:30Shannon Sharpe:Four in a row. Like, bop, bop, bop.
59:33Chad Johnson:Oh, man. Hey, well, you know, we can make this, I mean, for me, we can make it a better experience, right? It's one thing to talk about it, but, man, let's go sit courtside at the game, man. In what game? Shoot. We can go to a Laker game. We got a Hawks game. We got a better chance at a Hawks game than a Laker game. Boy, you gonna play arm and leg. You don't know nobody over there get us free tickets? For the Hawks? For the Lakers? No. No, not no free ones. Damn. We got some free one for Atlanta? Yeah. Yeah. We better get, we better have, you better have your feet on the wood. Oh, Joe. Hey, Joe.
1:00:12Chad Johnson:Hey, Joe. I'm coming down there, boy. That bring you a glizz and everything. You like eating a glizz and all. I need two of them. And a Coke with no ice. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Man, they bring you a glizz and everything. You be good. I can do that. I don't know what y 'all got against hot dogs, man. Y 'all acting like y 'all's good. Huh? i just don't eat them i know but i know y 'all be laughing i ate them hey ojo as a kid when we do the birthday party oh yeah hamburgers and hot dogs yeah i used to get down but i ain't really you know i ain't i ain't really no yeah i know you you you know you live in a palace now so i understand you know you you that's far-fetched from you here we go i'm just keeping i'm just keeping the 100.
1:00:55I got you. I love me some hot dogs.
1:00:59Shannon Sharpe:Have at it. It's time to play or fade presented by prize picks.
1:01:15Shannon Sharpe:All right, here we go. Here's the style six picks flex ahead of tomorrow's game. Jameer gives more than.5 rushing or receiving touchdowns, Ocho. Will he have one touchdown tomorrow? Yes. Okay.
1:01:30Chad Johnson:And what? He acted a plum fool last week, last weekend, or Sunday. Okay. So you think he's going to do it again? That's my problem. It's like they be having him pretty good again, then you turn around and bet with him. Oh, he's going to score.
1:01:46Shannon Sharpe:All right. This for you, Joe. Dak Prescott, more than 263 passing yards. Who he play? Kansas City?
1:01:56Chad Johnson:Yeah. Man, he gonna eat that up. Boy can go for about three, son. All right. Okay.
1:02:00Shannon Sharpe:Joe said he gonna go for three, son. I'm gonna ride that. Patrick Mahomes, more than 267.5.
1:02:10Shannon Sharpe:Trey Smith is out. The all-pro right guard. Woof.
1:02:17Chad Johnson:We finna have a feel. They with them, boy. We ain't playing. We can play. I'm just letting y 'all know. You going under 268, Joe?
1:02:28Chad Johnson:Yeah, I think Mahomes going to be under 268. I think Mahomes going to be under 268.
1:02:35Shannon Sharpe:I think it's going to be a high-scoring game. I think it's going to go over. Let's go. We going over. All right, Ocho, this is George Pickett's more than a rush or receiving touchdown. He'll have at least one touchdown tomorrow. Absolutely. He might have two. Shit. Kareem Hunt a rushing or receiving touchdown will he have a rushing or receiving touchdown he's a short yardage he's a goal line guy yeah Pacheco not back right he's had a touchdown in four straight games guys I'm going yes Lamar Jackson okay Ocho there it is Lamar Jackson at least 29 rush yards oh absolutely and I can say that respectfully you know 29 rush yards on any goddamn body I know I know it's my bangles he gonna have 29 rush yards but we know who gonna come out with the victory that's all that does now the Ravens all right$25 to win$300 download the app today use code Shannon to get$50 in lineups when you play your first$5 lineup it's good to be right all right it's time for our final segment of the evening it's time Time for Q &A.
1:03:56Shannon Sharpe:LeVar Forza, hey, Ocho, you're not alone. I suck toes and eat groceries. Hey, hey, hey. Every Thanksgiving, fella. And my fellow night campers, Ravens flop. Hey, them toes, that's where it's at, boy. I'm telling you, especially, hey, man, get you some ice, boy. Try this, man. Grind up some ice, man. and get some ice cubes and use the ice, you know, with the toe, the great combination. Boy, you hear me? Thank me later, boy. Whew. Desmond Newton said, what's up, Uncle Nocho? I'm at the hospital watching y 'all, waiting for my first child to be born. I appreciate y 'all killing the time while my nerves are up.
1:04:33Shannon Sharpe:Shout out to Sophie Joy. Daddy, excited to meet you. Yes, Desmond, thank you for watching. Thank you for your support. Congratulations, brother. Mom and baby will be great. come back and let us know. Obviously, you know it's going to be a girl because Sophia Joy excited to meet you too.

1:04:55Shannon Sharpe:Bro Mars said, I'm a Seahawks fan but 12 is on deck. I'm approximately a Browns fan. So guess what? He'd say he a Shadur fan basically. Jason CJ, more popular you are, the more haters you attract. That is so absolutely true. and I don't know why because most of the time you don't even know that person just what you see Elpray98 Ocho you got an opportunity to meet Ronaldinho yet of course I mean if you do me a favor go back I've met Ronaldinho at Barcelona when he was there with Eto 'o and Messi like it's many pitches with me and Ronaldinho I play with Ronaldinho here on the pitch if you YouTube it I hadn't an assist from Ronaldinho.

1:07:21Shannon Sharpe:they've been playing playoffs football already. You heard what Joe said, Ocho? What? Y 'all actually 3-8, but he said 3-9, so he already know subconsciously what's going to happen. Don't worry about it. Keep that same minute here. Jabal the gunslinger. Oh, oh, oh, I need your help. I'm trying to get a Connie Corso but my wife is iffy about it help me convince her that getting one is a good idea who wear the pants huh sometimes you gotta put your foot down if it's something that you want this is one of those situations where you gotta put your foot down I know they say happy wife happy life I understand that but what about your happiness what about how you feel what about doing something you wanna do for a change don't do that

I'm telling you. You're going to see me on the field. I'm going to be on the field. I'm on the field all game long. You're going to see. I saw you on the field with Ray knock your helmet off. You're going to feel sprawled out. And you saw me get up, get ready to whoop Ray's ass too. Hey, Joe, hey, Joe, put hands on me.
1:10:17Joe, you hear me?
1:10:19Chad Johnson:I see you. I see you go back to the sideline hollering about you the guy hit. No, that's a – he talking about a different –
1:10:25Shannon Sharpe:I'm talking about when he knocked my helmet off. You missed that one when he knocked his helmet, slap off his head. Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. He hit me so hard, Joe. My helmet went flying by 10 yards, right? Before I even hit the ground, I was trying to get up. Well, you got to see. No, he was trying to get. He went and got the helmet first, though, Joe. You know, that's cardinal rule number one. Anytime you get ready to fight, you got to put your helmet on. You got to put your helmet on, though. Get a call, slip, without that helmet. Sheridan Pope, Nightcap, your opinion on Kenya Martin and Draymond going back and forth.
1:10:55Shannon Sharpe:And Ocho, did K-Mart ever see your cigars for that playoff bet? Nah, I'm going to beat Kenyon Martin ass. He don't need to be worried about no Draymond Green. He need to worry about me. It just, hey, he just, he just, hey, whoever just said that just reminded me, Kenyon Martin owe me some cigars. Hey, Kenyon, when you see this, boy, you got 24 hours, boy. 1:11:43Shannon Sharpe:Look.
1:11:47Shannon Sharpe:Draymond has done what he's done. Kenyon did what he did. What are we talking about? Draymond didn't play against Kenya. Yeah, Kenya played against guys. Look, the basketball is positionless now. But it's, yeah. We debating things we're going to never be able to prove. What I don't get why nobody questions the fact that Dylan and Stefanski have the same agent, both under CAA. Guess who else? Dan Oloski. Someone who's back to him on live first take. Chad how would you feel if the guy you're competing Has the same agent as your coach I wouldn't care I wouldn't care As long as he get me my money The money thing is a cool thing It's all about what you do in that field It's all about what you do in that field I don't care who coaches who And who's agent But when we get in between them lines You're not better than me You're not better than me At some point Either they're going to expose themselves by letting the person play in front of me knowing I'm better.
1:12:50But when I get my opportunity, I got to show up and show out. That's it. It's really that simple.
1:12:58Shannon Sharpe:828 style. Back in the day, you used to say, I don't eat nothing or walk away when I'm finished with it. Things have changed now. You're absolutely right. You're absolutely right. Hey, y 'all nervous. Don't worry about it. Y 'all will get there. Y 'all will get there.

Yep. Damn. Free Stacy B. Why is everything ignoring the Browns kick? They punt on the 29-yard line versus a field goal with 59 seconds left in the game versus the Raiders.
