In short
College football and sports-business debate, plus pro sports talk. The hosts break down Miami’s win over Stanford (Malachi/“baby Jesus” Tony and QB Darian Mensah), discuss why elite college players may still need time before the NFL, and debate the Pro Football Hall of Fame voting process after Bill Belichick’s delayed induction. They also discuss Jayden Daniels’ cease-and-desist to LSU over NIL/name/likeness and jersey/number issues, and end with NBA talk about Ben Simmons joining the Sacramento Kings.

- Belichick’s Hall of Fame exclusion/inclusion is driven by politics/media voting; the process was changed from 50 to 28 voters.
- Jayden Daniels’ LSU cease-and-desist is tied to promises/number/likeness disputes.
- Ben Simmons can help Sacramento as a decision-maker/defender, but won’t be a 25-30 point scorer.

3:09Shannon Sharpe:Put up bad look here. Put up bad look here. Indiana want to get up to a fast start. They did that today, 52-16, right over to North Texas. We'll see how long they can keep this winning streak. They haven't lost a game in 17 games. 16 winning streak at home. They got off to a great start. Last night, the Miami Hurricane, 25-6, right over to Stanford. Malachi Tony, 12 passes, a program record, 234 yards, three touchdowns. New quarterback, Darian Mensah, transfer from Duke, 27 of 30, 4-0-1, five scores in his Miami debut. Tony flashes iconic polls after touchdown. He's like, look here. Y 'all know what it is.
3:53Shannon Sharpe:He shredded the Stanford, anyone that tried to cover him man-to-man in Mensah. If I'm not mistaken, I think Duke tried to take the man to court to get him to stay because he's special.
4:03Joe Johnson:If you take me to court, I definitely ain't staying. Ain't no way. Ain't no way I'm staying. But I want to talk about Malachi Tony, man. The baby Jesus. I played with De La, his dad, from Liberty City. Right. Antonio Brown, he played for the Buffalo Bills. Okay. He played with the Washington Commanders, you know, back then. He ran a full two.
4:25Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
4:25Joe Johnson:And now to see his son flourish in the way he's flourishing is unbelievable. He's a sophomore, Joe.
4:32Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. He got to stay.
4:34Joe Johnson:Going crazy.
4:35Shannon Sharpe:That's the thing, though. See, he good enough to go pro next year after the season, but he got to stay one more year old, Joe. He has to? Yeah, if he a true sophomore.
4:43Chad Johnson:Well, they change that. Y 'all think they ever change that rule? Never. Why? Because it's too physical? Yeah.
4:48Shannon Sharpe:Y 'all just pass Joe's mic because that one is making it echo. So y 'all just pass that.
4:57Chad Johnson:Mind jumping. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mind jumping. Yeah.
5:01Joe Johnson:Okay, I'm back. I'm back. I'm back. How's it sound? How's it sound? I'm good? Okay, okay, appreciate that, appreciate that. But anyway, what Malachi Tony is doing, he's so ahead of the curve. He's NFL ready already. Obviously, pedigree, having the skills, having the talent. Also, growing up in Miami, you learn at a much faster pace when it comes to playing in a receiver position. So I'm used to seeing him look like this. You think about Santana Moss and Andre Johnson, obviously myself, Amari Cooper, all these receivers, and we continue to pump them out all the time. You think about the high school players right now.
5:41Joe Johnson:There's a young bull by the name of Nick. He's at Carroll City right now. Amir Sears at Columbus. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like that? They gonna dominate the next level. Just remember those names.
5:53Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, Sears, they beat Bishop Gorman.
5:56Joe Johnson:Sears said Thomas Aquinas, though, right? No, he's at Columbus. He's at Columbus. No, Amir's at Columbus and Nick is at Carroll City. There's one more. I think his name is Bryson Wright. I think he's down there in Jacksonville. I could be wrong. It's somewhere in Florida. But those three right now could go on any college campus right now and be the starter. Wow.
6:15Shannon Sharpe:Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Yeah, they're going to have to – but Malakai Tony is special. But Mensah, this is not UC why Duke tried to do everything they could to keep him. They knew he was a special talent. That's why Miami did everything they could to try and get him because they knew he was a special talent. You can see it. I mean, 123 pass yards, 213 yards, rush yards. But Clemson has an uphill battle. I don't know what Clemson can do. What can they do in the second half that they didn't try to do in the first half to get back into this ballgame? 31-3. LSU is just thoroughly dominating the ballgame on both sides of the football.
6:52Shannon Sharpe:I just don't know what they can do to get back into this ballgame.
6:56Chad Johnson:And I think LSU dominating the line of scrimmage, too. And that's the biggest key. You got to have them boys up front, man, who can hold the fork down, open up holes, and make a hell on some of these teams. And I think that's what LSU is doing. I think Lane Kiffin, he going to keep pulling it, bro, in the second half. He going to keep pulling it. He trying to, hey, he want to impress this LSU fan base. That's what he wants to do. And right now, what, 31-3? Yeah. Yeah. He doing it. He might put up 60. But to speak on Malachi Tony, his rival running Ocho, I'm talking about, you know, when you watch some cats, man, they make the game look so easy.
7:36Chad Johnson:Yeah. And it's like, damn, he hitting them with stuff. I'm like, hold on. But he's very deceptive, and he has that extra gear, bro. You know what I mean? It was amazing to watch yesterday. I'm like, man, I know they playing Stanford, but at the same time, I don't care who you put out there. A guy gave 234 yards. Come on, receive him. Come on, bro. When you look at him, Ocho, in that slot,
8:00Joe Johnson:I don't know how they're going to deal with him in the slot in the NFL. No, they're not going to be able to. For him to be as polished as he is, to be that polished this early in your career, obviously with the training that you do in the offseason, and most of the good receiver coaches are down there. You've got receiver factory, you've got gold feet, and being able to work with those two who work with all the top elite receivers in the NFL. And you take that formula and you put it in those players this early, that's the reason why he's so seasoned. And look the way he does. Right now he's NFL ready.
8:32Joe Johnson:Every college receiver is not NFL ready. No, you're right about that. There's a learning curve. There's a learning curve. But Malachi, man, they call him baby Jesus down at the crib, man. He's ready. And the fact that he has to stay another year, in a sense that sucks to me because he's ready right now.
8:48Shannon Sharpe:Well, you're talking about Jeremiah Smith. Jeremiah Smith was ready his freshman year. Yeah. Easily and he had to stay easily and that's that's the thing you know a lot of people believe that they are Adrian Peterson could have come out his for his freshman year. He rushed over 1900 yards. Yeah, it's hard It's just hard cuz that's just football is a grown man. Yeah, it ain't like basketball It's not it's not it is a grown man sport To ask a teenager to go play with grown men.
9:19Chad Johnson:Yeah That's tough.
9:21Shannon Sharpe:Boy, you ask an awful lot. It's challenging, too, to have a hell of a freshman year
9:27Chad Johnson:and then have to do it two more years. Yes, yes. That's the challenging part, bro. I remember looking at Claret, the kid from Ohio State, the running back. He challenged it. You know what I'm saying? He challenged the establishment and lost. But he was so great his freshman year. You know what I mean? It's hard to maintain that high level of play for two more years in college because they're going to game plan for you. You can't surprise nobody no more. He tried to lead.
9:50Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. He tried to travel to the establishment in the NFL, in the court system, sided with the NFL. I mean, look, that's what Article 46 is. They said that in a situation like that, that you can't go pro until your class graduate or you're at least 20 years of age.
10:09Chad Johnson:Damn.
10:11Shannon Sharpe:And because, like I said, a teenager, boy, you're asking an awful lot of teenagers to play in the NFL, Ocho. But, Ocho, we played that sport. We know it's brutal. You talk about grown men. I went to the NFL. I was 22 years of age. I just turned 22. I mean, I got drafted at 21, turned 22, basically a month before I had to report to camp. Yeah. That's a different ballgame. That's a physical-ass sport. That's a grown-ass sport because you're dealing with grown men. They got wives. They got tuition. Hello. They got mortgages. Hello. And they're not taking it easy. Now, every once in a while, you'll get one that's going to try and help you.
10:48Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Trying to give you the ins and outs of what it takes to be a pro. But more times than not, they understand you're coming to try to get my job, bro. I ain't helping your ass.
10:56Joe Johnson:I don't even think the body's ready. That's why it's so good to go to college, you know, to get those three years. Or maybe four if you need it. Because the body's not developed yet. To be able to play at the next level.
11:07Shannon Sharpe:We've seen guys go into the NBA. We've seen guys go into the NBA and play out of high school. We've seen baseball players maybe go down there and have to play 56 games. But basically, they're basically out of high school. but an NFL player to go out of high school and go play in the NFL, I don't know. It's just hard for me to see a scenario that I don't know if I've ever seen a player that was ready to go play NFL football out of high school.
11:31Joe Johnson:I think out of high school, no, maybe freshman year, like you said, Adrian Peterson, he might have been one that might have been able to do it. Might have been able to do it, but I haven't seen anyone, maybe with the physical tools and having all the attributes, but being able to withstand the punishment throughout a 15, 16, 17-game season, uh-uh, that's tough.
11:54Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you're asking an awful lot of kids. You know, some people say they believe Randy Moss could have came out of high school. I don't know if Randy, with his frailty, I mean, Randy probably put on another 20 pounds once he got to college. It'll be interesting to see what Randy say, what did he weigh coming out of high school as opposed to what he weighed by the time he got ready to go to the NFL. He had to gain at least 15, 20 pounds. You're asking an awful lot of a kid come out of high school and try to go to the NFL and play at that level.
12:20Chad Johnson:I agree, and I think the mentality. I don't think coming out of high school, especially in football, you got to have a different mentality, bro. Them boys will break you up down there. You know, in basketball, it's a lot easier because it's not so much power. It's a lot of finesse. It's more skill. You know, more skill. But in football, we talking about, come on, man, a gladiator sport. Yes. At 19, like, if your mind ain't right and you go into a game, man, them boys will break you up. Oh, they're trying to break you up. Yeah.
12:48Shannon Sharpe:See, y 'all trying to get around a guy. We trying to run through a guy. Hello. Pause.
Read the full transcript
13:00Shannon Sharpe:But that's the difference between the two. You're trying to impose your will on a guy. Yeah. Jayden Daniels was not included in LSU's NFL, LSU. Basically, it's guys that's in the NFL that went to LSU program. Daniels sent LSU a cease and desist in order to stop using his name, image, and likeness before the season. That's what he wanted. They obliged him. Yeah, that's what he wanted. That's not a story to me. Mm-hmm. I mean, we're talking about it, but, I mean, he said, don't use my name, image, and likeness. I don't know what happened. I guess it was about a jersey number, the number five. He wanted to retire.
13:37Shannon Sharpe:If I'm not mistaken, I think Billy Cannon might be the only number that's officially retired. I know Joe Burrow told us that they told him that no one was going to get that jersey, but they have officially retired it. Joe Burrow, that season, they were perfectly undefeated. He won the Heisman Trophy, the greatest season ever for a college quarterback, one of the two or three greatest seasons ever for a college collegiate player. Like I said, I don't know the backdrop of the story. I don't know what was told to Jay Daniels. I don't know. So without having further details and information on what was told to him, did they tell him, you know, we ain't not giving that jersey out to anybody else?
14:18Shannon Sharpe:Or did they tell him they didn't share that information with him? I don't know. But for something, something ticked. Pissed him off. Yep.
14:25Joe Johnson:Most definitely. And I think they probably did tell Joe Burrow that. Obviously, Heisman winner, perfect season. And maybe somebody that might not be in that building anymore might have told Jaden Daniels, you know what, now from a business aspect, a likeness aspect, we're not going to let anywhere with that five.
14:42Shannon Sharpe:Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly, the guy that has the number now. DJ Pickett. DJ Pickett has it now. Brian Kelly reached out from what I can gather. Brian Kelly reached out to Jaden Daniels. Jaden Daniels didn't seem amenable to that. So Brian Kelly said, you got to get another number. Now that's what, if I had to deduce, that's what I would gather from that situation. I'm not saying that's what happened, but if I had to deduce, that's what happened. That's why he did. Because he said he was promised number five. Well, if you tell me I can get the number when I get there, if you tell me you're recruiting me, and I can get some.
15:21Shannon Sharpe:Joe, if Arkansas told you, say, Joe, you can get number 24. When you get to Arkansas, you expect to get 24. Hello.
15:27Chad Johnson:Hello.
15:28Shannon Sharpe:I mean, what are we doing here?
15:30Chad Johnson:Yeah. I think Jayden Daniels, I'm like you. I think he was told something. I don't know if it was a promise. Yes. But obviously he wasn't too fond of somebody else wearing that number. Right. And so he was willing to go with this. Was this a lawsuit or tell him, hey, look. Assisted and desisted. Assisted and desisted, yeah. Don't use my name, image, and likeness. And it's unfortunate. Like you say, it's probably only been, what, one player got their number retired? A big Billy Cannon. Yeah. So when I look at this situation, I feel like somebody told Jaden that, look, man, we're going to make something special happen for you.
16:04Chad Johnson:And the fact that somebody else won his number, he didn't feel too comfortable.
16:07Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, my grandpa used to always say, boy, promises are like pie crust, thin and easy and broken. So when somebody gives you a promise, you know it's like pie crust. It don't take much for it to break. But, you know, and that's very unfortunate because, you know, he did. You know, Brian Kelly got him to leave Arizona State. He goes there. He wins the Heisman Trophy. And, look, it happened. And Jaden, I'm a man, bro. If I can give you any advice, bro, I left Denver. I left Denver. I was the all-time leading receiver in Denver history. I had, you know, seven straight Pro Bowls, five first teams, five all pros, four first teams, and a second team.
16:44Shannon Sharpe:And the year I left, they gave my jersey to somebody else. At least they waited a couple of years on you. They gave my issue away right away.
16:55Joe Johnson:I like what they are. Yeah. And also him now being in the NFL.
17:00Shannon Sharpe:Yes.
17:01Joe Johnson:I wouldn't really be worried about image and likeness at LSU. No. I wouldn't, especially now with the money you're going to make after this season.
17:07Shannon Sharpe:Yes, for sure.
17:08Joe Johnson:I think for Jayden Daniels, let's focus on having a good year this year. Yep. Well, you're a$300 million quarterback. Yep. You know, I don't mean to be disrespectful for those that are listening and watching, but with the likeness and image that you're making at LSU ain't going to be close to what you're getting ready to get, you know, in this offseason. if you have a good season this year with the commander. So, listen, it means something to him. It means enough to him when he had to send a cease and desist. So, I mean, it is what it is.
17:35Shannon Sharpe:Savannah Stacey, you and my name in me delight. Now I don't care. If it's going to help them get some better players, if it's going to help them win some games, I'm all for it.
17:43Chad Johnson:Yeah, because that 87, what was it, 83-9? 87-9. 87, oh, my God. Yeah, you need some help. You got to get some NIL money down there, man.
18:04Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I need what you call, let me hit the lottery. I need to hit the lottery. Let me hit that 500, 600 million. So I can, you know, I can build a weight room. I can get top-down facilities. I can, you know, put two, three million dollars a year in NIL and let them come on up. That's, you know, we can challenge something. You know, we can do some things.
18:20Chad Johnson:Man, you hit that type of money here. It's just going to be me and Ocho with a nightcap. We ain't going to be a big hitter.
18:24Joe Johnson:No, whoa, whoa. You got to think about it. If he went fast, oh, I ain't got no mic. Hey, I forgot I ain't got no mic. You got to think about it. If Unc went fast,$600 million, right? Yeah. It's still going to be all three of us because I'm sure he's going to break us off shopping. Yeah, I would break y 'all up now. I must be talking.
18:41Shannon Sharpe:Just give me a number. I went$500 million. If I take the lump sum payment, I'm probably going to get$200 million. No, you'll get about$328 million. $328 million. I done did the math already. Go ahead. Well, you know what? I ain't going to need another 28. So I'm going to get Joe 28 again, you 28. Okay, okay, okay. I can work with that. And then y 'all got to keep nightcap going because I'm going to be a guest. I'm going to be like Johnny did for college football. I'm going to see y 'all once a week. I let y 'all pick today. We'll hold it down. Yeah, y 'all hold that thing down, man. You know, I got to be, me and Mama, we got to be on somebody's beat somewhere.
19:21Shannon Sharpe:man.
19:23Joe Johnson:You gonna leave us? Yeah, I'm gonna be once a week. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Wait, wait, wait. We don't do this show for the money. We do this show for the people. I know. We here to talk sports and tell stories, but if you get some money, you gonna abandon us? I'm gonna abandon me.
19:40Joe Johnson:I got a pee-pee. Yeah, man.
19:47Shannon Sharpe:That's what that is, yo. Hey, man. $300 million,$400 million,$500 million. That's definitely going to change the way you think and look at things now. You know, hey, all I know is Savannah State is going to be looking a lot pretty, a lot better than what they look right now. I don't know about a whole lot of other people, but I know Savannah State is going to be looking real, real good after that. Yeah, they need some help. Yeah, they're going to get the Shannon Sharp Fitness Center. They're going to have your name on the field? They're going to name the field after you? I don't care about the field.
20:16Shannon Sharpe:I want the Shannon Sharp Fitness Center. I want the Mary Porter Student Center.
20:20Chad Johnson:Yeah.
20:22Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, that's what I'm going for.
20:24Chad Johnson:Oh, yeah.
20:28Shannon Sharpe:One year after Bill Belichick got denied entry into his first eligibility into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as overhauled its selection process. The changes will overhaul the process by reducing the panel of voters from 50 to 28 and limiting eligibility to three categories, players, coaches, and contributors. The new bylaws eliminate senior categories, keeping all players in the same pool without artificially a 25-year window for modern era players. This eliminates what has necessarily become a cleanup process by giving one or two more busts per year to players who fail to make it during their quarter century eligibility.
21:10Shannon Sharpe:Will this fix help the process? What you thinking, Joe? Let me go. As a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I'm number 267.
21:25It's amazing how somebody that they thought was going to be a no-brainer
21:29Shannon Sharpe:first ballot Hall of Fame didn't get in and they overdue the process. They redo the process. Now, they redid the process to keep one guy in. They redid the process. They did one process. They redid the process. Excuse me. I'll get my thoughts together here. They redid the process to keep one guy out. Now they're redoing the process to get another guy in. Isn't that something? Yeah. Isn't that something? Like Ochoa said earlier, when they want you in, they're going to get you in. When they want you out, they're going to keep you out. We're talking about the process in which they did Coach Belichick.
22:04Shannon Sharpe:They redid the process now. They overhauled it. They went from 50 voters to 28 voters. They did away with the old era. or, you know, nah, they just got one. You got 25 years to get in if you don't get in, oh, well.
22:17Joe Johnson:Wait, so it was 50 voters, now they're down to 28? They're down to 28. Now, I would love for them to tell us who those 28 are.
22:24Shannon Sharpe:Well, I mean, you're going to find out. I'm sure they'll tell you that. Because what they did, Ocho, is that usually they had a voter for every NFL team. Right. And so his job was to present. So Cincinnati, they were the reporter. He would report, okay, this is Ocho. He would present the case for Ocho. Right. Ocho deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. You're talking about a guy that was a six-time pro bowler, a many-time all-pro, the all-time leading receiver. Look at him in his era. He was one of the three or four best receivers in his era. Yes, he played in the era with T.O. and Randy Moss, and he was the third or fourth receiver.
22:58Shannon Sharpe:Yes, he played with Randy. Yes, he played with T.O. Yes, he played with Marvin. Yes, he played with Reggie Wayne.
23:04Joe Johnson:But Ocho Cinco was right there with it. Right there. And not only that, he was the greatest entertainer of all time. He was also one that played the game that needed no validation, that did it his way. And if they were to make a mistake and let me in the Hall of Fame, the one thing they're going to have to deal with is I'm coming out with some smoke. I want smoke. I want pyrotechnics. Is that how you say it? Yes. Yeah. And I need the song My Way by Frank Sinatra because that's the exact way I played the game. My Way. Clap it up. Clap it up. Thank y 'all. Thank y 'all. Appreciate that. That boy good.
23:42As I was telling Joe earlier,
23:46Shannon Sharpe:when they want you out, they're going to keep you out. When they want you in, they're going to get you in. They thought Coach Belichick was a no-brainer first Ballot Hall of Famer. I agree. You don't get no debate from me on that one. But for whatever reason, they kept him out. Yeah. They completely overhauled. They dropped the voting from 50 to 28. That's 22 people that doesn't have a vote anymore.
24:14Joe Johnson:So they let the 22 people go, they'll probably vote against him. It has to be because it looks so egregious. It looks egregious. How do you keep him out? He would be the standard. If anyone is a Hall of Fame coach, he sets the standard. He sets the bar on what that is.
24:30Shannon Sharpe:As I said, there are some guys that's eligible this year. It's going to be very, very interesting to see what they do with these players. Yeah. Very interesting. Joe, Joe, it's going to be very interesting to see.
24:43Chad Johnson:Yeah, they're going to get Belichick in there, though.
24:45Shannon Sharpe:He should have been in. He should have been in. You voted in Coach of the Year. Look, Coach Belichick has some antics that rubbed me the wrong way as well. I don't like the fact that he doesn't speak to the media. He gives the media his butt to kiss. But that's the problem that you have because it's the media that's voting for this. The same people that you gave your butt to kiss, Those are the same people that was gonna put your butt in the Hall of Fame. Yeah now you got a problem with it They had a problem with the way you talked to him the way you treated him
25:18Chad Johnson:He really gonna treat him bad now, though Yeah, you think even a chain? No, no, no, no, no, no school man. He said no he didn't change it. Yeah. Oh
25:28Shannon Sharpe:You definitely not change it
25:30Chad Johnson:It's his way Belichick man.
25:32Shannon Sharpe:I'm gonna do this my way That's the only way he knows how to do things. He can't do it any other way. The only way he can do it is to do it his way. And he should have been a first by the Hall of Fame. Facts. I don't think anybody's debating that. You don't do what he's been. You don't become as accomplished as he is. He's won six Super Bowls. The likelihood of somebody else winning six Super Bowls is not very likely. It's the same equivalent of somebody winning 11 championships like Russell or Phil Jackson. That ain't happening.
26:08Joe Johnson:Phil won six.
26:09Shannon Sharpe:He won 11 as a coach. What? Yeah, six and five.
26:13Joe Johnson:Where did five come from? He won four. He won three.
26:15Shannon Sharpe:He won five with the Lakers. Three with Shaq and Kobe and two with Kobe by himself. That's true.
26:20Chad Johnson:He was blood with Kobe. That's true.
26:22Shannon Sharpe:Yeah. Or somebody winning 10 World Series rings like Yogi Berra.
26:26Chad Johnson:Man, the likelihood, that ain't happening, man. Hey, look. We talk about Phil Jackson now. He was a hell of a coach, but he had the two of the greatest two guards to ever play the damn game. Yeah. And the most dominant big ever. Yeah. Jordan and Kobe. Jordan and Kobe. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, come on, man. You get them two guys on your team, the way they want to win, what they'll do, they'll cut your heart out to get a win.
26:50Shannon Sharpe:Many believe he had three of the top ten players to ever play the game. Oh, facts. Jordan, Shaq, and Kobe. Many believe he had three of the top ten players to ever play the game.
27:02Chad Johnson:he had a whip, boy. Because when he went to New York, it didn't turn out. It wasn't so pretty in New York.
27:08Shannon Sharpe:It's amazing that he never picked the players that won. Jerry Cross picked the players at the Bulls. Yeah. Jerry West picked the players at the Lakers. When he picked the players, y 'all saw what he picked.
27:25Chad Johnson:He had a hell of a system on that triangle offense. It was tough. It's tough to game plan against a guy. Like, it's hard to double-team Jordan. It's hard to double-team Kobe in that offense, and they flourished in it, bro. Like, because it's got so many different triggers, you know what I mean, for different situations. Those guys can score with the best of them. They're probably two of the best scorers that will play the game. So, I agree, man. I think Phil had amazing talent.
27:51Shannon Sharpe:He did. I think the thing that he did better than probably anybody is that he was able to manage the egos.
27:57Chad Johnson:There you go.
27:57Shannon Sharpe:There you go. It wasn't so much coaching. It was managing the egos. Yeah, yeah.
28:02Chad Johnson:Knowing how to deal with the players that you got. You heard him say, Dennis Rodman, say, man, look, Phil, I already knew I needed some time. You know I need a little break. I'm coming back. You know? I'm like, what? So, yeah, being able to manage them different egos, hey, man, that's tough as a coach, bro. Because that's the job of a coach.
28:21Shannon Sharpe:You've got to be part psychologist. You've got to be a part coach, a part father figure. there's a lot of elements that's involved in coaching that a lot of people might not think that's involved in coaching.
28:33Chad Johnson:And you're always going to have some guys on your team, some players who are not going to be fond of you as much. Yes, yes. You got to be perfectly fine with that, bro. You know what I mean? I think the top coaches, they understand that. Like, okay, look, I can't please all 12 of these damn guys over here. You know what I mean? So there's going to be a few that's going to have some gripes against me, but that's okay. I got a job to do.
28:55Shannon Sharpe:I think the biggest thing is that if your greatest players are your hardest worker, and he guessed what he had. He had Shaq. I mean, he had Colby and Jordan.
29:08Shannon Sharpe:He had Jordan. Jordan was the hardest worker. He was his best player, but his hardest worker. Colby, when he first got there, he wasn't the best player. That was Shaq. Let's not kid ourselves. And that's not to take anything away from Colby. Colby was fantastic. but when he got to Los Angeles in 96 Shaq was the best player no question he was no question and Shaq was so dominant Shaq was so good I don't know if Shaq realized how good he could have been I think Shaq sit back now and says you know what yeah I did this yes I won three in three years I went to three in four years and I did this I won a scoring title I won an MVP but I think Shaq deep down if you were to put true serum in him and put him on a lie detector I think he sat back and said, you know what?
29:53Shannon Sharpe:I should have at least three MVPs like Nikola Jokic. Facts. And I probably should have two more championships.
30:02Chad Johnson:Facts. Facts. I think that drove Kobe, too, Uncle Ocho. Meaning, like, for him to be great, I think he understood that, look, man, everybody got me in Shaq's shadow. Mm-hmm. You know, and I think that drove him to work extremely hard and be, you know, one of the top guys, if not the top guy in the NBA. Because when Shaq left, I guarantee that's probably his most gratifying championship.
30:26Shannon Sharpe:Mm-hmm.
30:27Chad Johnson:You know, when it was, yeah, yeah, yeah, being able to do it without him, yeah.
30:30Shannon Sharpe:Remember what Jalen Brown said? Yeah. This was his best season ever. Yeah. Even though they didn't win the championship. And I think the team looked at him and was like, hold on, wait a minute, bro. You didn't win the championship. You won a championship. The championship season is not your most gratifying season? Joe, you know that's how they look at it.
30:49Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. But JB was thinking from a standpoint, man, I had to carry this team the whole entire season. I'm talking about didn't miss a beat, Ocho. Still top two, three team in the Eastern Conference. Come on, man. He got a valid gripe and groan on what he's talking about. But when you look back and you say, hey, well, they won the championship, you know, it makes him almost to some degree look a little selfish. Selfish, yes.
31:15Shannon Sharpe:because he's looking at individual stats, not opposed to team accomplishments. Yeah, yeah. And he had a 3-1 lead. Against Philly. Yeah, they did. You had a 3-1 lead. They did. You got a 3-1 lead, you blew that, and that's still your most accomplishment? Yeah. That's still your greatest accomplishment? Yeah, yeah. It's funny how they hear what they want to hear because at the end of the day, I kind of understand what he was saying. He's like, against all the odds that against me. You look at JT, our best player. We're right here. We're one and one. He's out. Nobody had us being the two seed. No, sir.
31:57Shannon Sharpe:A lot of people didn't even think. Think about it. Al Horford is gone. We traded Przingis. We traded Holiday. And y 'all, who thought we was going to be the second seed to eat? Nobody. Nobody did. Nobody. So that's what I'm saying. It's gratifying. It's gratifying to me because against all odds, where you thought we didn't have anything that we couldn't get any better, that basically we were going to be tanking, trying to get great players. What did we do? We got second seed. That's all because of me. I had a career year looking to be across the board. But that's not how they took it. They took it.
32:30Shannon Sharpe:You being selfish. Bro, how are you going to talk about y 'all? Y 'all did X, Y, and Z. You ain't win the championship. You won the championship. And that's not gratifying? You're the Eastern Conference player of the year and your finals MVP. You're saying the season in which you won none of those was your most gratifying season. That's how they f*** it.
32:47Chad Johnson:Yeah, because y 'all counted us out. Y 'all counted us out. Y 'all didn't have us in the top of the Eastern Conference here, let alone even making them playoffs, and we ended up being a two seed, and the numbers that JB put up, Uncle Ocho, hey, man, I'm sure he understood that he was in MVP conversations, and with JT coming back, he sees the shift. You know what I mean? and then now Boston has to get rid of one of them, which is obviously JB. And I just think, man, coming into this season, he's going to have a whole different focus level. And I think Philly. Him and LeBron and Tyrese Max have been practicing hard together.
33:24Shannon Sharpe:Do you think this process is going to fix the Hall of Fame, Mocho? Now they only have 22 voters, 28 voters instead of 50 voters. Do you think this fixed the process? Okay, let's just say for the sake of argument, it does fix the process. it doesn't get coach better chicken on the first ballot no absolutely but what it does do it makes sure it ensures that we don't have this mistake again are we sure we don't have yeah absolutely i think it was it was too when you're moving like i do trips don't always come together weeks in advance sometimes production shoots interviews or something i've got to travel for on a short notice like the time when i had the last minute trip to denver and everything came together fast once it was locked in, I had to be ready to go.

37:18Joe Johnson:Having 50 people in general and we're half of the 50, It's only a few that's probably going to even vote for Belichick based on the way they've treated them. Especially if reporters, you know how they view him. You know how he treated them over the years. He's not giving you nothing. Nothing at all. So I can see, and I'm glad that they did fix this issue, because it's probably going to arise and continue to arise. And think about how many other players have been left out because of them taking it personal. This is supposed to be what you've done on the field and on the field only. your resume, your accolades all those things and I just don't like the fact that these individuals have so much power to be able to control who gets in and who gets out.
38:00Joe Johnson:I wish it was coaches and players only. Either you played against me, you had to deal with this individual or something like that
38:09Chad Johnson:It used to be like that though, didn't it?
38:10Shannon Sharpe:No, it's always been
38:13Joe Johnson:media. I don't like that. Personally, media they get the opportunity to pick who they like You know, if I had to deal with you, I'd know whether you're one of the best all time or not. I know whether you deserve to have that gold jacket or that bus. And the media, I mean, listen, they do what they do. They've been studying and watching the game for a very long time. But the fact that they control something of that magnitude and have that much power or say or whether who gets in, I just, it doesn't sit right with me. But that's it.
38:42Shannon Sharpe:If somebody treated you like crap for say 15 20 years and you get an opportunity to vote for them for something You're gonna disregard the way they treated you and vote demand Or you're gonna remember all the time that they gave you that button to kiss, you know, you know, it's funny
38:55Joe Johnson:Can I be honest with you? Yeah, you probably not gonna believe me if it was somebody with a resume like his like Belichick You know what that motherfucker Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot me on the show. Okay. Hey, listen. He treated me really, really bad. But he was so good at his craft and what he did. Yeah. I ain't got no choice. I'm able to be able to compartmentalize and understand it.
39:23Shannon Sharpe:Most people aren't, though. I hate him.
39:25Joe Johnson:I hate the way he did me, but I can't deny what he did when it came to coaching. I just can't.
39:30Shannon Sharpe:Most people like that, though, Joe.
39:32Joe Johnson:You can't overlook that, though. He's not just any coach. He is the standard of the best at it.
39:42Shannon Sharpe:What you're doing is abnormal. Most people do what's normal. I had a guy that tell me something like that because we were having a conversation. He said, you know, I heard your interview. I heard you talking about how when you went through what you went through that a lot of people abandoned you. He said, Sheldon, don't be upset. He said, you got to understand. they have something to lose if they support you. He said, don't be mad at the normal. Be appreciative of the abnormal. Be one that had something to lose and still stuck their neck out there for you. Now it makes sense to hear somebody say that.
40:18Shannon Sharpe:It made sense to me. So what you're doing, what you're saying is abnormal. The normal person, like Joe say, they're human. You know, gave me your buddy kiss for 15, 20 years, and you think I get an opportunity, I get an opportunity to vote for you. I can vote you in or vote you out. You think I'm going to vote you in? No, sir. No.
40:35Joe Johnson:Hell no. That's really too much power.
40:39Shannon Sharpe:Like Chris Tucker said, hell no.
40:46Too much power.
40:47Shannon Sharpe:It is. But we've given them that power and you understand they have that power. At the end of the day you're dealing with the human element. Humans are humans. They have feelings. And more times than not, like I said, you're abnormal. More times than not, when you give somebody your butt to kiss, when they get an opportunity to pay you, give you retribution, they're going to take their pound of flesh. They're going to get their retribution.
41:18Shannon Sharpe:That's just the way it is. But I believe I'm with you. I'm with Joe. I believe Coach Belichick should have been a first-batter Hall of Famer. So there can be never a coach in NFL history that goes in on the first ballot. Never. And I love Andy Reid. I know Andy was a tight end coach in Green Bay. So I know Andy a long time, know his family very, very well. No coach can ever go into the Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot. I don't care if it's Sean McVay. I don't care if it's Mike McDonald. I don't care who it is. There could never be another coach going to the first ballot because I don't believe there'll be a coach to ever win that many championships.
42:01Shannon Sharpe:To have a resume. I don't be a coach that'll ever have that consistency over that length of time.
42:08Joe Johnson:It sets a bad precedent. It does. It set a bad precedent. And obviously there are people going to have the side eye depending on when other coaches come up if they go in first ballot. Right. When a blind man can see that Belichick belonged in there. Yes. I mean, now that they clean it up, I hope it gets better. And those that deserve to be in there, they get in there.
42:34Shannon Sharpe:Joe, Ben Simmons has signed a one-year$3.5 million contract with the Sacramento Kings. He's back in the NBA for a 10th season after sending out 25-26. Simmons will serve as a backup point guard to Darius Acuff, the number seven overall pick in the NBA. Joe, how do you feel about Ben Simmons mentoring your guy?
42:53Chad Johnson:I like Ben Simmons, Uncle Ocho. I just think the expectations that was put on him as a number one pick, that's not his game, Uncle Ocho. You know, everybody want him to come out 20, 25 points tonight. That's not his game. I think now we're having a year off coming back. I think when you see stat lines like 10 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, you know what I mean? I think he can definitely contribute to a team and help them win, especially young guys. But I like Ben because I think he's a stat sheet stuffer. He's just not the prototypical 6 '9", 6 '10", who you like, man, look, we want 25, 30 points from you at night.
43:34Chad Johnson:That's just not his game. He's going to do a multitude of things. I think he has a great feel for the game. He understands the game. He plays the game at a great pace, and he makes guys around him better. He's a hell of a passer. You can play through a guy like that. You just can't expect for him to come out here and get you 25, 30 nights. That's just not what he's going to do.
43:51Shannon Sharpe:He can make everybody else better except himself.
43:54Chad Johnson:Well, I think it depends on how you look at it, Arn. Now, if you're looking at him, man, man, we want to see Ben shoot some mid-range, some three-pointers. He's not going to do that, bro.
44:02Shannon Sharpe:Why not?
44:03Chad Johnson:He's not going to do it. You ain't seen him do it his whole career.
44:07Shannon Sharpe:That's what's disappointing. Because, Joe, I like to see a guy that comes in and he has a game here. And then as he goes in the league, I see his game progress to here. Yeah. We never saw Ben get any better.
44:18Chad Johnson:No, we didn't. And he never really got challenged because he was so talented. At 6 '9", 6 '10", I can handle the rock, I can post up. He's probably a better post-up player. He's a much better post-up player than he is a perimeter player. You know what I mean? But he has such a great field where he knows how to pass and make guys around him better that I think having him at the point was almost a mismatch, especially defensively. He's a great defender. He can guard one through five. So I think if he's headed on straight, obviously he didn't have some time off. But coming back, playing in Sacramento, guess what?
44:49Chad Johnson:There ain't no expectation, guys.
44:50Shannon Sharpe:None.
44:51Chad Johnson:Playing in Sacramento. You can play, get your head beat in every night. Ain't nobody going to say nothing. You playing in Philly, that's a tough crowd, bro.
44:59Shannon Sharpe:And that's the thing. You go back and look at the game that he played against, I think it was the Nuggets, he ended up having 42 points. Yeah. And then once he did that, that's what the expectation was. Bro, if you did that, what? But there was no Joel Embiid. There you go. So now everybody expected him to do that. That was the problem that he ran into, is that once you put that on tape, Oh, Joe, once you had that first 100-yard game, that's the expectations. Joe, once you had that 30-point game, that's the expectations. Once I had my first 100-yard game, that was the expectations. And it is what it is.
45:33Shannon Sharpe:I understand people set sometimes unrealistic expectations on you. But at the end of the day, you should have those expectations for yourself. Hello. You should expect. You know what? Bro, you're the number one overall pick. What do you think the expectation is going to be, Joe? Man, ain't nobody expecting you to have no damn 10-5-5. What the hell are you talking about?
46:00Chad Johnson:Yeah. But I think he got a real chance to really contribute to this young Sacramento team, Uncle Ocho. He has some tools that will work for him. Obviously, they're going to have a young team. And I just think, man, he's going to come out, he's going to play the right way. He's going to be successful because there is no expectations on him.
46:18Shannon Sharpe:No. No, that's a blessing and a curse. You know, when you don't have expectations, though, Joe, that's a pretty low bar to get up under. I mean, we all want expectations. We all should expect something. When no one expects anything from you, boy, that's a pretty low place to be when nobody expects nothing from you.
46:44Chad Johnson:I agree. I agree. He got to find some way to get over it. I think he has such a mental block when it comes to offensively. Yes. Shooting the ball. I ain't talking about threes on coach. I'm just saying even if you post up, shoot a damn turnaround jump shot. You know, even if you miss it, just let us know you ain't afraid to take the shot. And I think that's probably been happening to him, you know, in the NBA because he just isn't willing to take the shot. The question, Joe, that I have, is he left-handed or right-handed? I think he's confused. You think he's confused? because he can shoot with their right.
47:19Chad Johnson:He can shoot with their left. He shoot a lot of jump hooks with his right hand. Yeah. So, I don't know. He may be a little ambidextrous, but it ain't going to help that outside jumper on him. No. So, I think he's going to have to be a good pick-and-roll guy, dive to the rim, short roll, hit you in that short roll to where he can play make out of that. Yes. Maybe shoot some floaters, get to the bucket, spray out the threes. But I think he's such a great decision maker that he will have some value for that Sacramento team.
47:47Shannon Sharpe:Putting him in a dunking spot.
47:49Chad Johnson:Yeah, yeah. Having him in a dunking spot when you got Acuff out there running the pick and roll. That way, almost similar to like Golden State with Draymond. If they leave him, then he's in a spot to where he can be effective. Right. Yeah, so I like him for being simple. I like to see him back. Hopefully, you know, he got his head on straight and he can help this young team out.
48:07Shannon Sharpe:I personally think the thing is that him being away from the game, I think he doesn't have any choice but to have his head right. Yeah. Because he sees how quickly the game will move on without it.
48:18Chad Johnson:But the question is, has he been training? Has he been playing? Like, you can't just take no damn year off and ain't been working on your game, and then you think you're going to come back and be at an elite level. It don't happen like that, bro.
48:32Shannon Sharpe:But, Joe, he has something that you can't cheat. That's 16. You can't teach 16, Joe. You can't. He's an elite defender. I mean, long-ranging. Remember, he's an all-NBA defender. He's a three-time All-Star. What's disappointing is what he could have been, what he should have been. That's what's disappointing. That's what's most frustrating to everybody that's a Ben Simmons fan or a 76er fan. What could he have been?
49:07Chad Johnson:Because we really don't feel like he reached his potential. No, he didn't. You know, I expect him. I ain't going to lie. I thought he was going to come into the league. In his first couple years in the league, Ocho, he was nice, bro. At about 15, 16 points a game, he won rookie of the year, his rookie year, his rookie season. So I expected him to make quantum leaps, you know, every season. It just didn't pan out like that, bro, for whatever reason. Now, I don't know if it's because MB takes up so much space on the low block and it don't allow him to have a lot of real estate to where he can work.
49:39Shannon Sharpe:Embiid bailed him out though, Joe. He didn't want to take the chance. Joe, I passed him the ball for a layup. I passed him the ball for a lung, and he passed it off for a guy to get.
49:48Chad Johnson:And he had Trey Young guarding him. I know, I know.
49:53Shannon Sharpe:That's the problem, Joe. I think the problem is that Embiid bailed him out. Because he was like, yeah, I can just pass the ball to him, and then you won't know how inefficient I am. at areas that I'm not good at. Yeah. Bro, you got Trey Young. I'm dunking Trey Young in the basket. I ain't passing no damn ball to Thibault or whoever else. Facts. And I knew it was over when Joel Embiid said what he said, when Doc Rivers said what he said. I knew it was over. I said it was over. I was on the other field of chat, and y 'all go back and check. I said it's over. I said it's never going to be the same.
50:34Chad Johnson:Nah. Because once your best player and head coach come out, and say something like that about you, it's a wrap, bro. It's hard to recover from something like that. And he never did.
50:43Shannon Sharpe:He never recovered from that. Philly had the trash can going down the river. Somebody just been similar. Go ahead.
50:54Joe Johnson:I say that was the middle thing for Ben. I think him obviously playing in Philly, that makes it even worse because you know how Philly fans are. Yes. Having Embiid say what he said, having the coach come out and say what he said on top of what the fans are saying, I hate using this word because I don't take mental health as something weak, but the mind has to be strong when you play certain sports. The mind has to be strong when you play a sport in general and you play in certain environments. Philly is an environment. When it comes to that fan base, whether it's football or basketball, your mental has to be on point.
51:26Joe Johnson:You've got to be able to block that out. When you have bad games, they're going to let you know. They're going to let you know. It's unfortunate for him. there's no pressure on him in Sacramento. That's why I think he's going to do well, because there is no pressure. And the outside, no, it's not going to bother him because there's not going to be any when you're playing in Sacramento.
51:47Shannon Sharpe:Ain't nobody going to watch him. Ain't nobody going to know he's playing.
51:50Joe Johnson:No, they're going to be watching for Acuff.
51:52Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, but ain't nobody looking for Ben Simmons.
51:55Chad Johnson:Ain't nobody going to be looking for him, but Ocho, I'm with you. You got to have short-term memory when you play a professional sport, especially basketball, because we're playing almost every other night. And if you have a horrible game, you got to put that behind you, bro. We got another game we got to attend to. So short-term memory is the key.
52:13Shannon Sharpe:Joe, Gabe Benson says Bam Adebayo has to rent out an entire movie theater in order to see a movie. That's cool to do, but do you really want to go to the movies? Do you really want to spend$1 ,500? Joe, is renting out an entire movie theater doing too much?
52:30Chad Johnson:I ain't going to say it's doing too much. I think it depends on who you are. Correct. You look at guys like Kobe Bryant, they can't go to the movies. They can't go to the mile here. They can't go to the grocery store. They can't do nothing. You know what I mean? Those type of guys, you're talking about megastars. Hey, man, they have to go through things like this. You know, you have to rent out a movie theater so you can sit there in peace and watch the movie without somebody, you know what I'm saying?
52:54Shannon Sharpe:Want to take a picture, want to autograph, want to have a conversation. You're absolutely right.
52:58Chad Johnson:Yeah, that's part of it because guess what? When somebody see y 'all, they're like, man, I might never see Uncle again. Let me go on. Let me go and get a picture. I might not never see Ocho again. Let me go and get a picture.
53:07Shannon Sharpe:You saw it happen to me tonight, Joe. Dude wanted to take a picture. I said, well, take a selfie. Well, he ain't want no selfie. Well, I was going to get somebody else to take it for me. I said, so you want to interrupt somebody else so you can get a picture? He's like, brother, am I getting you upset?
53:21Chad Johnson:Yeah.
53:24Shannon Sharpe:I said, bro, I'm not upset. I'm just saying. And his homeboy was just looking there smiling. I said, why don't you get your homeboy? I said, why didn't you bring your homeboy over here to take the picture? to begin with.
53:33Chad Johnson:Because he was nervous off the dump. I was watching it the whole time. He was nervous I don't know what. Then when Ock started talking to him, he was like, oh, Ock, Ock, Ock.
53:43Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, I took the picture with him. He's like, did I upset you?
53:49Shannon Sharpe:I said, no, bro. I said, you're supposed to have a plan when you come to take the picture. I said, you want to take a picture. You didn't want a selfie. Your homeboy was outside smiling and kiki-kiki. is, why didn't you bring him to take the picture? Hey, can I get the picture right quick? My homeboy's going to take it right here. Yeah, but me personally,$1 ,500 to have peace, that's a small consolation of pleasure. I don't have to worry about signing no autographs. I don't have to worry about taking no picture. I get an opportunity. If I'm going to see Odyssey, if I'm going to see Spider-Man, if I'm going to see Avatar, whatever I'm going to see.
54:26Shannon Sharpe:If I'm going to see Avengers, the end game, whatever I'm going to see, if I get an opportunity to sit there and just watch it in peace without taking somebody, how y 'all gonna do this here? Yeah, yeah. Y 'all gonna do it, Chip. How you think? Y 'all did? You and Y 'all did?
54:42Chad Johnson:And look, look, look. Hold on. Another thing you gotta take into account, your significant other. Yeah. Like, he ain't got no regular damn significant other. You know what I mean? Like, you know, they low-key like a power couple. Yes, for sure. It's a big difference. I can see him having to rent out a movie theater. Man, you don't get no piece like that, bro. I mean, but think about guys like Michael Jackson.
55:05Shannon Sharpe:Like Michael Jordan. When was the last time you think Michael Jordan went to a regular theater? That he didn't rent out for the entire theater. For his kids. When he was taking his kids to the movies, he happened to rent out the entire theater. Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson hasn't been normal since he was like 10. Rest his soul. I mean, guys like me, what am I supposed to do? Lionel Messi can't go to no movie. Renaldo can't go to no damn movie.
55:28Joe Johnson:I mean, shoot, it's going to be like that for us in a minute. Give it about another year. Hey, listen, by the end of... 27? Nah. Yeah, yeah, nah. By the end of 27, you're going to be like, we ain't going to be able to go nowhere. Damn. I mean, we're going to do the live tour. They're going to be coming to the stage. Oh, my God. Ice show. Oh, show. Oh, hey, Twix. Oh, I'm going. It's going to be crazy. Oh, they're going to say, oh, oh, Twix.
55:59Joe Johnson:hey what we gonna be
56:00Shannon Sharpe:I ain't been to the movies in a while I'm gonna go see Spider-Man I gotta go see Spider-Man I ain't seen Spider-Man yet I heard it's really good it's long it's like two and a half hours Odyssey like three hours
56:12Joe Johnson:I saw Odyssey soon it came out in movies like that Odyssey, Braveheart, Gladiator, Troy, 300 what I love those are fascinating to me
56:22Chad Johnson:my attention span My problem is when I get in the movies, if it's over two hours, I'm going to get sleepy. Yeah, I'm going. That's me. The lights turn down, Ocho, it feels good. And the A.C. blowing. You got the snowflakes blowing. Boy, I'm asleep. I'm over here.
56:36Joe Johnson:It's a good movie, though.
56:37Chad Johnson:It can be a good movie, Ocho.
56:39Joe Johnson:Yeah, you ain't going to fall asleep. Shh.
56:41Shannon Sharpe:Hell, you say. I'm going to sleep. If it's a bad movie, I'm definitely going to sleep. I mean, I just haven't been to the movies. I've been to the movies. Basically, I just watch them when they come on, when they stream, when they come on television, I watch them at home. The problem with watching at home, you end up picking up your phone. Yep. End up not paying attention. There's so many things going on to distract you. It's not like when you're in the movie theater, you have your undivided attention. You know, the popcorn is popping, the people bustling, you know, people, they whispering and things like that.
57:16Shannon Sharpe:You kind of miss that about the movie theater, but what you don't miss is the, interruption. People wanting to carry on conversation and I'm like, bro. Oh, bro. I don't want to.
57:30Chad Johnson:When you got small kids like me, you in the movie theater is at least twice a month. We go to the movie. Yeah, because the animation. You see it all. What? I be locked in on the animation. My kids love it too? What?
57:44Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, you like me. I'm an animation type of guy myself. I don't have no problem with Bam. I have no problem with Bam you know renting out a movie theater because he wants peace that's really the only time that he gets an opportunity to escape and say you know what I'm not even I'm not worried about I'm not worried about anything I'm not worried about you know I can just focus on this movie theater I can get my mind away from basketball I can get my I can escape reality and just focus on this me and my lady can watch the game Mm-hmm.
58:17Shannon Sharpe:Now, this is the moment you've all been waiting for. Ocho, also known as Twix, is going to give y 'all a tutorial. Bear with us, guys. We have to move the cameras around and let Twix, you know, get in the position.
58:31Joe Johnson:I'm finna, hey, chat, y 'all can see me right now. Obviously, I'm at Area 29. A lot of y 'all that don't know, if you don't know the story, I know I used to dance, you know, back in 1997. my stage name was Twix I danced at the right track in LA when I was at Santa Monica College obviously I couldn't afford books I couldn't afford tuition so I had to make some money some kind of way so I'm at Area 29 out here in Houston and I'm going to show one of the young ladies how she can maximize her earning potential how she can maximize her earning potential in what I like to call adult ballet This is not stripping.
59:13Shannon Sharpe:Not stripping?
59:14Joe Johnson:It's adult ballet. Yeah, adult ballet. It's like saying midget.
59:18Shannon Sharpe:You don't want to say midget. Definitely derogatory terms. You got to say small person, little person. This is adult ballet, so I want to show her how she can control the atmosphere.
59:29Joe Johnson:You got to become one with the crowd. Right. You hear me? You win the crowd, you go home with the most money. Win the crowd, win your freedom. Win the crowd, win the money. See? Yeah. Yeah, I've seen you say it on Joe. You see, Chad, so I want you all to stay with me. I'm going to give her a tutorial on how to connect with everybody. I need her Wi-Fi to be on point. I want her signal to lock in with everybody. And I'm going to say, see, everybody fine.
59:54Chad Johnson:Yeah.
59:54Joe Johnson:Everybody here fine. For you. So there's got to be something different about you that sets you apart from everybody else. And for one, the first thing that's important, eye contact, Joe. Yeah. I'm going to teach you eye contact. Then the move. You ain't got to be going crazy, but you got to have subtle movements that captivate the eye. Because what are men? Visual creatures. We're visual creatures. So I'm going to teach you that. Yes, sir. So I'm going to teach you that. I'm going to teach you some tricks. Because one thing is one thing to be subtle and sexy, but then you have to have some type of entertainment to captivate and keep the eye.
1:00:32Joe Johnson:Right, right, right. You feel me?
1:00:34Chad Johnson:Can you tell them why they call you Twixer?
1:00:37Joe Johnson:Because back then, you got to think, this is 1997. I was what? What did I was? 19? 18? Yeah, yeah. So I was so skinny, Joe.
1:00:44Shannon Sharpe:Yeah.
1:00:45Joe Johnson:And I had veins everywhere. Yeah. And if you open up a Twix, it's chocolate and it like it got veins. So that's why my stage name was Twix. Yeah. So I'm going to give her a little tutorial, man. I'm going to wait until she comes out, until she gets dressed. Ladies, if y 'all ever thought about dancing or doing adult ballet. Please don't. Just take note. Take note. Because this is the cheat code in life, too. You know, for those that are impatient with nine to fives where it takes two weeks, you know, to get your money, you can make, you know, thousands, you know, doing this. What you think, Joe?
1:01:25Chad Johnson:They can make a lot of money doing this just by busting it over. Busting it wide open. I'm just keeping it real. I'm just keeping it real. I mean, you know, we in a ballet establishment. Adult ballet. An adult ballet establishment. And, you know, you have to be captivating. Yes. You have to be an attention grabber. You know what I mean? So I think if you're able to do that, you'll probably walk out of here with a lot of money. Yes, sir. Yeah. Yeah. And you're right, Ocho. A lot of people like that fast money. They don't want to wait until two weeks. Every two weeks. Yeah, for sure.
1:02:03Shannon Sharpe:First in the 15th. Hello. I can't depend on that. I depend on the first in the 15th. Yeah. I depend on the first in the 15th. I ain't been in the old.
1:02:14Joe Johnson:You got to think about it, Joe. You come here with a shift, right? Yeah. And you go home with$5 ,000 a night.
1:02:20Chad Johnson:Mm.
1:02:21Joe Johnson:Sometimes$10 ,000 on a good night, depending on who walked through that door.
1:02:24Shannon Sharpe:Hello.
1:02:24Joe Johnson:Come on now.
1:02:25Shannon Sharpe:I had a lady told me she used to dance. Say the most she ever received in one night is$300 ,000.
1:02:31Joe Johnson:Damn. 300 what?
1:02:33Shannon Sharpe:300 grand. I got it. She going to be on the podcast in two weeks.
1:02:36Joe Johnson:Hey, let me tell you something. That's not this kind of establishment, though. I know where she work. Huh? That's what the, you know, with the, they ain't got no melanin. That pig like that, bro. She was down there in Miami. Yeah, but, uh,
1:02:54Joe Johnson:which one? It started with a T?
1:02:56Shannon Sharpe:I don't know. I don't know what it's called. But she told me, she said, that's the most she ever somebody gave. 300. Yeah, that wasn't on us.
1:03:03Joe Johnson:I can tell you that. 300.
1:03:05Shannon Sharpe:300.
1:03:06Joe Johnson:Yeah, 300 tonight, boy. Man, please. Boy, I take some off of 300 right now.
1:03:18Shannon Sharpe:Boy, you give me 300. That man said he get button balled right now for 300. Well, quick 300. Hold on.
1:03:30Joe Johnson:ain't tax-free? Man, stop playing. What we talking about? Chad, what we talking about?
1:03:36Shannon Sharpe:Yeah, what's really going on?
1:03:37Joe Johnson:300?
1:03:39Chad Johnson:I ain't mad at you, old Joe.
1:03:41Joe Johnson:No, I'm just saying, hey, Joe, 300? Quick?
1:03:43Chad Johnson:I know, bro.
1:03:44Joe Johnson:Listen, Joe, you got a thing. All I got to do is two songs. And then. One song or three minutes. So you mean six minutes I'm walking out of it with 300 ,000? 300.
1:03:53Chad Johnson:You got to do your thing, though.
1:03:54Joe Johnson:Man, I... I be cutting up. What? Hey, Chad. You know when it comes to tutorials, you can't have a tutorial. That's a ban. That's a ban. You can't have a tutorial without the money. So, also, the tutorial to show men how to throw the ones. The throw the ones. See, it's all in the wrist. See, watch the wrist. You see how the wrist break? And it's an upward motion. You don't throw out. You throw up. So it rains. Yes. Yes. You just take it to smack. So it rains. Stop. So it rains. I don't know what you're doing there. Stop. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, boy. Hey, this is going to be a good night tonight. Yeah, it's going to be a good night.
1:04:45Shannon Sharpe:Somebody go get out of their rib pain tonight. Yeah. Hey.
1:04:55Joe Johnson:I got to keep it. Okay. Okay.
1:05:01Chad Johnson:All right, Twig.
1:05:04Joe Johnson:Who I got? Who I got? Who I got? Oh, my.
1:05:12Shannon Sharpe:Let me see what you got going on. I got a couple of dollars.
1:05:17Joe Johnson:No, no, no. Hello, hello, hello, hello. Hello. Hello. Hello, oh, yeah, y 'all hear me oh we got oh we got oh
